WAKA will not be carrying these programs in HD. The high cost can't be justified for no additional revenue generation. besides, there are more pressing needs for WAKA than the equipment to record and play HD.

Yea Jim, That is all that is the ONLY syndicated program available to us in HD at this time. There is another yet to be announced program coming this fall, but WAKA doesn't carry it. WCCB and WOLO do tho!

WAKA - Why do you need to overlay that huge 1/4 screen "Law Call" banner over the shows? If it must be done, can you not do it during the commercials or even have a little 10-second spot that tells people to call the Law Hotline?

I don't know what it is. I've lived in several parts of this country. WAKA and WSFA are the worst stations I have ever watched with regards to interferring with prime-time programming.

Heh, ya, though the analog channels all look great on my Sony KV-36FS210. But, with the Playstation 3 coming out soon I wanted to move to a HDTV, but was trying to figure out if the OTA Digital broadcasts come in clear up here.

I just moved to Auburn and was dissapointed with the Charter HD lineup so I decided Dish. Now I'm trying to determine where to get the signals from, Montgomery, or Columbus. I'm also trying to find an antenna that is agreeable with the wife. Any suggestions?

I am having trouble with DISH. SAT: 119 is on line but I am having trouble with some of the transponders. Transponder 4 cannot be locked in, but other transponders on 119 are fine. I have checked switch, which says OK. I checked the connections on the DPP44, and all seem to be seated fine. What could be the problem?

YES...only one receiver. The DP301 is the only one with the problem. I checked the connection from the DPP44 to the receiver and it seems good. I have also pulled the card and done a hard boot.

Check the power inserter for the DPP44.

Unplug the receiver that's on the Inserter feed and see if you still have a spark if the center connector (copper) sparks when it touches the outside of the f connector on the switch.

Also make sure power inserter is on port one.

If all of that is ok then it's the receiver.

A DPP44 switch requires more power to operate than a receiver can send to it.

Somewhere there is a power inserter installed in one of your cable feeds to the switch and plugged into the AC outlet.
This power inserter has to be on port one of the DPP44 switch.

Thanks Scott, but I found the inserter in back of our main TV. I un-hooked the cable and touched it to the end of the connector and there was a spark I guess it would have to be the Receiver? You wouldn't have a extra DP301 laying around? :)

Anyone having problems picking up WCOV-DT 20.1 FOX tonight. I live in Millbrook. Unable to tune it in. Getting channel 20 FOX but not HD. I get CBS, PBS, ABC, NBC perfectly. I'm using a Terk Outdoor HDTV Slim Profile Antenna mounted in the attic.

From Grove Hill you could probably get either Columbus or Montgomery, depending if you are sitting on top a hill.

I have the antenna in the attic and does fine... allthough it seems sometimes the power for 32 tower goes down at times.

I got the Antenna from Lowes 110" span and a booster, I have it split. One to my media center for HD and the other to the TV for regular non HD signals, reason being to get channel 20 FOX until HD comes in.

Email sent. If you have a nextel/alltel number then that's probably the problem. For some reason whenever I have calls to or from nextel it always keeps cutting in and out and is static-y.

Just turned on the TV to watch the Auburn game on WSFA (OTA). Getting audio and video dropouts every few seconds. The signal strength is fine and stable. Is it just me or is anybody else seeing problems? Doesn't bode well for football on WSFA during the day. It seemed, at one time their problems were fixed but I have been having problems with them for the past several days.

Does it work very well? It looks like it would pull in all the stations. I also have a Channel Master 7777 pre-amp that I can use with it. I don't want to get too big of an antenna. Also, I want to put the antenna in the attic or on a porch. Any comments or suggestions?

It depends on where my future wife and I decide to buy. I used 36093 b/c my fiance lives on Old Ware and I wanted see what results people got in that area. Would the SS be ideal off of Weoka Rd. or down 14, for example?

I live north of Wetumpka and I use a Channel Master type 4228 clone. It does pretty good. Sometimes channels spit and sputter (even at 100%) but that might be my recevier or something in the signal. Just have to point SW a bit for Channel 8-1 but most of the others I can get pointing at SE. So you may want to get a rotor.

All you BrightHouse customers that has the High Def package. They are now showing Universial HD channel. I'm at work so I'm not sure what the number is 7 hundred something... I have setup my record options on my HD box to record Battlestar Galitica. And they are gonna start to show Firefly this fall.

I think FOX has some kinda deal with Directv. I dont think very many cable company's will offer fox HD. I like UniversalHD but only for Battlestar right now. But I guess I was making the point that they ad these channels and dont tell anyone. I would like ESPN2 myself because there was something on the other day in HD I wanted to see. When they ad it, it will just show up one day.

Thanks for the info, I was wondering the same thing. I thought I might have had a setting wrong due to the strange image shift to the right during commercials and local stuff. I guess it's a weird station thing.

I noticed that also. For a while ( a day or so) the channel was listed but not actually broadcasting anything. Yesterday I checked on it and it was up and showing some 80's video. Not sure why it is mixed in with the HD channels, it sure didn't look HD to me.

As an aside, I have had Brighthouse for about a month now, and I am somewhat disappointed in it. The quality of the HD is very inconsistent between channels for some reason. ESPN HD usually looks pretty good, but some of the local channels do not. I had relatives over during the recent Auburn - LSU game and thought I would show off my HDTV, however it was horrible, it was extremely jittery like it was dropping a lot of frames or something. Eventually we got tired of it and actually switched over to the SD channel to watch it!

Also, the DVR box and software they use isn't too great. Sometimes the recording feature just stops working and the unit has to be unplugged and plugged back in to fix it. The channel guide also goes ahead the fewest number of days of any service that I have ever seen or used.

Unfortunately I cannot get Charter where I live, or I would try them out. One positive thing is that Brighthouse's cable internet service seems to be top-notch. I've had no problems with it and it is extremely fast.

I again checked with WCOV about thier digital signal and they said it was working fine. Also, I called Dish and asked if it was a hardware problem with the VIP receivers and they said no. It's kind of strange that the only people having complete signal loss with WCOV are the ones with a VIP receiver. If WCOV is not the problem and the receiver is not the problem, then why do those of us with newer Dish receivers have a problem with WCOV? Does anyone know any fixes? I know it's not my antenna because it used to pick it up just fine. My antenna is still pointed in the same direction that it was when WCOV came in at 72%. I've reset the receiver a dozen times. All I get is about 30% and a dropout. The analog signal passed through to my TV works just fine. In fact, it gets better reception than all of the other analog stations. Sorry about the rant, but I just don't get why WCOV digital doesn't come in anymore.

Just a fyi, I'm using an outdoor Channelmaster 4228 antenna and WCOV is fine some days, and on other days, its missing in action.

Welcome to the area.
The Motorola 6412 phase III DVR that Brighthouse uses has some quirks. One of which is that the picture will freeze, tile, etc. when the signal is either too strong or too weak. I typically have them come out to the house every few months when it starts acting up. I too have to unplug the the box to correct problems. Eventually, they work out. I do think that the DVR stops recording if the signal drops out. That might explain why some recordings are either entirely missing or only recorded for a few minutes.

Other than a problem last week during House, I haven't had any problems with WCOV (OTA). I was having some problems with WSFA's signal (video and audio drop outs). However, I recently had some trees cut down that I thought might be affecting my signal (that wasn't the reason for having them removed) and I
haven't had any problems with WSFA since (except for the remapping to 14.3.4.5).
Of course, the improved reception might just be coincidental and could also be related to changing atmospheric conditions. My OTA signal does seem better across the board but the season's are changing.

I'm a little confused about what's going on with WSFA. Tonight it appears to be back to 12-1 and 12-2 as well as 14-3 and 14-4. Earlier, the 12s weren't working but now they are again. Does this kind of thing happen often?

It happens sparodically. It's better than it was. For a while it would go up into the 14s for 2 or 3 days at a time. Now it's about a day or less. It used to seem to happen after or during bad weather. That wasn't the case this time. Not sure what causes it. It seems like something maybe disrupts or does something to the PSIP signal and/or generator. Channel 12 seems to be the only OTA channel in this area that has this problem.

OK, another "new guy" in Montgomery question. What is up with CBS going from HD to SD during primetime TV and putting ad banners (Law Line?) up on the screen?? Is this normal? I have never seen anytihng like this before. Very annoying!

Whenever that stupid thing appears, I just keep calling them and asking stupid questions. I figure if they are annoying me, then I will annoy them.

It figures. I haven't needed to watch WCOV OTA for quite a while. But, now that football is on, I have to (since Charter does not provide the FOX HD signal). Anyway, here we go again with the same problem of it cutting in and out. What a joy! I thought that after a year or TWO, we'd have it right, but I guess not.

p.s. It is also interesting that the signal level remains unchanged during the commercials, but flucuates greatly during the game....no joking! I just sat through two sets of commercials...it is true, belieive it or not!

My new pet peeve is whatever has gone wrong on ESPN HD. They used to have an amazing picture. Now, most of the camera shots are fine, but the higher angle shots down on the field, or into the stands, all pixelate horribly around the players and the logos on the field. The last couple college games, and Monday Night Football, have all had this issue. It looks like some weird live TV data compression problem to me.

I'd like to believe it is somehow a Brighthouse problem, but it looks like it is ESPNs problem since most camera angles are fine.

Am I the only one seeing this? I've found other people complaining about it, but they are on D* or E*, while others say they have no issue at all. The problems are obvious on both my 61" DLP and my 106" projection system.

Well, I'm in Auburn and got a Winegard SS-2000. I tried it in the attic and I could get WSFA, WAKA, a PBS channel and oddly enough FOX out of Columbus. Of course last night my wife was wanting to watch Desperate Housewives and I could not get an ABC channel. Do you think the Channel Master 4228 will out perform the SS-2000 in the attic? I thought I'd try the SS-2000, but it's falling a little short of what I want. Thanks for the help!

The new CW is coming in on analog 22 but no digital yet. Hopefully, it will be soon as they've tested it several times.

I've posted several times about my losing the WCOV digital signal altogether. It was at 70% signal strength before I added a CM 7777 amp to my Terk HDTVi and now it hits around 35% and drops out. I thought it might either be a problem with WCOV or my Vip211. Is it possible that the amp is bringing in too much of the signal and overloading the receiver? I live off of Atlanta Highway near Taylor Road. Is WCOV close enough to have this problem with an amp and such a small, indoor antenna? I'm just trying to troubleshoot. Would an attenuator be a good fix for this? The 7777 increased and streghtened signal strength on all other channels. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I've got an attinuator laying around that you're welcome to try out.

Typically, antenna amplifiers are intended to compensate for long wire runs for an outdoor antenna to your TV. Not so sure that connecting it to a set top antenna is helping.

I've heard, as you've said, that amps don't help if you have a set-top antenna and a short cable run but this pre-amp has worked pretty well in my situation (except for WCOV). I have a VIP211, and all OTA HD come in fine, except for WCOV. It will not lock. I have an extra old receiver and can get WCOV ota fine. It has to be the VIP211.

Am I the only one that cant get sound on WCOV? Also the HD is not full screen but bars at the top and side. There has been no sound for the last few days and no HD for the last month.

Strange, I have a HDPC myhd card and a Rat Shack HD receiver . I get NO sound on either one and the picture (House, Bones, Prison Break) is a squashed picture not full spread. They other stations WSFA and 8 are OK as is all the PBS stations.
I have had no sound for a week or so the same for the HD spread. Any Ideas?

I just got off the phone with the engineer at WCOV, they are expecting a new cheif in November. The guy I talked to got it dumped into his lap when the old engineer died. Anyway. I have a Rat Shack Receiver that I can get NO sound, also a HDPC that does not get sound but I just put on an old Voom receiver I had and I do get sound but out of sync. This all started about 1 week ago. I also asked him about the width problem on HD feeds and he said the pass through what they get from the network and claims that the network is sending the signal with side bars. He promissed to look into the sound problem.
Does anybody else have a HDPC card or Radio Shack receiver in that can get WCOV and can they report on any problems with WCOV?

Like I said, I get it but no sound on the Radio Shack receiver or the MYHDPC receiver and on the Voom receiver, out of sync. All 3 of my receivers can't be bad only on Fox.
I need someone else that has one of these receivers to verify Im not nuts.

I've checked with WCOV and Dish. Both say that there shouldn't be a problem. I've posted on several forums asking for advice. They only advice so far is to use an attenuator. I'll try that this weekend. There could be multipath from other Fox stations and the VIPs might not be able to handle it. I know I've got at least two other Fox digital signals at some point (Birmingham and Columbus). It's not the antennas b/c each one of us with an issue with WCOV have different antennas. I've started a thread about this problem with the VIPs in the Reception Hardware area of this forum if anyone wants to chime in.

WSFA Engineers Work To Correct Signal Problem

You would think nothing would ever intefere something like a 1,965 feet tall TV tower. But not necessarily. We met our Assistant Chief Engineer Steve Kohn at the so-called 'tall tower' in Grady in South Montgomery County.

Over the course of 30 years surrounding trees have grown, blocking the signal that's transmitted directly from the smaller tower at WSFA to the tall tower 30 minutes away.

"We didn't do a very good job of charting the signal path back in '77 so here we are with tall trees in the way," said Kohn.

Tree cutting is not an option since most of the trees are on private property. So the question today is how much longer will some of us see signal problems with our televison sets?

Today, engineers completed step one of a three-step process by tinkering with a receive equipment at the base of the tower.

The entire job won't be wrapped up for another two weeks when workers raise a huge new antennae. It weighs about 900 pounds and it'll be installed much higher than the original receiving antennae, some 200 feet higher.

And in two weeks we'll be back to watch it unfold at the tall tower, show what's all involved in raising the new antennae. Stay tuned.

Built in 1977 at one time the tall tower was the tallest structure in the country. The tower stands a towering 1,965 feet. Raycom which owns WSFA is spending close to $200,000 to correct this problem for our viewers.

Due to our tower troubles, many folks missed the season premiere of E-R last night. We sincerely apologize and will re-air the premiere episode of E-R this Sunday from 1:30 P.M. to 2:30 P.M.

That story reads like a bunch of bull. First a tower 2000 ft high receiving from a smaller tower with trees in the way? Those must be 500 ft trees. Those trees would have to be withen a few hunderd feet of the small tower and it would have to be shorter than the trees to be in the way. 2 a new antenna weighs 900 lbs and is 200 ft taller. My 50 ft tower weighs more than 900 lbs. Their probley installing more weather equipment because the TV shows get in the way.

Everything is not conspiracy.
If you read the story or better yet watched the news like I did you would know they are talking about the microwave relay from WSFA downtown to the Grady Tower 30 miles away.

The microwave relay is a round dish placed a few hundred feet up the tower in a corridor specified by the FCC.
The signal from WSFA is sent over the microwave relay then down the tower to the transmitter. Then it is sent up to the antenna on top of the tower out to us.

The corridor has been block by tree growth since it's been in the same place since 77. They are raising the relay dish a few hundred feet higher on the tower to get over the trees.

WSFA is up to its old tricks again. The don't "flip the switch" soon enough, an ongoing problem.

They turned it on at 1:16 p.m....about 46 minutes late as the coutdown to green is supposed to be in HD too.

Now I can't get WCOV digital at all. I deleted my locals and rescanned and WCOV isn't even getting the 35% it was getting just yesterday. I went and tried to add the channel (16) specifically and it didn't get any signal. It's never done that before. The WCOC analog signal comes in crystal clear with some ghosting though.

WAKA dropped out Sat night. Sunday I was getting 62% on WAKA.

I think I am going to try a XG91 to see if I can get a more reliable signal on WAKA

Aimed to receive WSFA and I'd loose WCOV, probably due to its signal to the north isn't very strong. One of the dual antennas is aimed at WSFA and the other is aimed to received the other stations.

Hmm... I'm about 15 or 20 miles further away from WSFA and I can get WSFA with a small amplified antenna. I checked antennaweb.org for your area and it says you need a "yellow" antenna for WSFA.

Since I'm further away the angle is not as great so I was able to get WSFA pointed directly at WAKA.

I have the 211 and I'm still having problems with 20. I tried the attenuator and that didn't work it all. I tried taking out the pre-amp completely and that didn't work. I still get about 35% and then a dropout.

I guess I should clarify. When I was pointed at WAKA at 68%, I was only getting 70% on WSFA. The 93% for WSFA was a max reading. 68% was the best I could get on WAKA.

I think you might have a shot. You might also be able to get the station out of Columbus. You would most likely need AC to plug in an amp.

I think Columbus (WRBL) is your best shot at 46.7 miles. WAKA is 80 miles.

WRBL transmits on Digital channel 15.

I still can't get wcov-dt on my 611 but I can receive it on my 811 using the same antenna and position.

Is anybody getting Fox WCOV OTA full screen? The station engineer says they are passing it through from the network. I used to get it full screen but now it has black bars on each side but FOX in blue is outside the picture in the right black bar.

Baseball game looked awsome last night on Fox.

I emailed dish and told them of the problems those of us with Vip receivers are having. Although I told them that it was limited to just vips and that all of us had different antennas, they still blamed it on the antenna. Go figure. They are clueless. Coincidentally, my entire Dish signal is gone now. I can't acquire a sat. signal. Now I've got to call tech support again. Also, Dish tried to tell me that the Vip dpesn't do anything for the ota except for pass it through. I emailed them back and said that they do just pass through the analog signal but the vips actually decode the digital. They sound clueless.

I just talked to a really nice tech support lady at Dish. They do keep a list of problem channels. However, WCOV is not one of the them. The CW(22) is. We don't get that ota yet anyway. I encourage those of you with a vip and the problems with wcov to call and/or email Dish about the problem. The more complaints they get, the more likely they are to look into it.

I have a VIP 622 and it does that frequently if I have the OTA antenna connected and lose a signal on one of the channels. You have to reboot it, or sometime it reboots itself... but that gets old.

The strange thing about WCOV, is that, from what I've read, they are on the same tower as WSFA and at about the same power. I get WSFA better than any station out there and I can't even get WCOV to scan.

I was told that wcov's digital tower is actually at wcov and thier analog is with wsfa. BTW, I get the wcov analog channel passed through to my built-in NTSC tuner crystal clear. It's the best picture I get out of all the analog channels. It's weird that I get it so clear and can't get the digital. I wonder if there's something to that?

It show a construction permit for 1000kw and them being on WSFA's tower but the current location is different with a power of 1.1kw.

I'd like to know when they plan to move to WSFA's tower.

This is the same situation I incurred with our local ch. 20 (RF 19). It was a PSIP problem. Suggest you contact the station again. Unfortunately, since they claim no PSIP changes have occured, they may not know how to deal with it.

Here's a relevant portion of an email I received from the station's engineer:

No the HD feeds prime time. Nothing is full screen everything has bars on the sides. Daytime or Primetime. With FOX under and off to the right side of the picture. I tried 2 diferent receivers. 12, 8, 4, 2, 26. 48, 18, 3 all full spread when broadcasting HD

Dish Tech came out yesterday. I had a bad LNB. Still no WCOV though.

The gain on the Winegard drops off pretty substantially in the higher end of the UHF frequencies. On the following link make sure and look at the "net gain" chart.
Also keep in mind that WAKA transmits on ch.55

Based on all of that I would go with a CM 4228 or a AD XG91

jtrippe, I've seen your posts about not being able to receive WCOV 20.1. It seems that the problem definitely has to do with the vip622. I have one of those receivers and have the exact same problem you have. I get all the other OTA channels just fine, but WCOV shows about 30-35% and then drops out. I hooked up my OTA directly to my TV which has a built-in HD tuner and I get all the channels just fine, including WCOV. This is really irritating because I was getting WCOV just fine until a few weeks ago. I don't know what has changed, but if I want to watch WCOV HD, I can't do it through the vip622. Hope this helps, but I'm not sure what we do now to rectify the situation.

I wasn't able to get a signal tonight but about a month ago I got a signal that would not lock. It looks they're still testing it. Hopefully, it will be up and running soon. Anyone have any info.?

I finally got tired of my Vip211 as an ota tuner and decided to spend the $ and get an LG 4200A ota box. It should arrive shortly. Hopefully, it will help me pull in WCOV and get a stronger signal on the other stations better.

On my Brighthouse DVR (Motorola 6412), I believe the cablebox is introducing some contrast of its own that is at times crushing blacks. Not a whole lot, just enough that us uber geeks would notice it.

When you get your LG4200A in, please compare it to your E* VIP622 to see if the 622 does the same. As I'm considering switching to Dish, I'd like to know if I'm getting away from this issue.

I can get all the local digital/analog stations fine except I have to reposition my indoor antenna for this. You can go from a digital to analog station just by keying in the station like 12.1 then 12.0 etc. However I don't use it much now as I have a HD DVR. I find I'm watching more shows using it than I watched before.

I've been noticing the variations in black level among the local channels, now that I have a display that doesn't have floating black levels and I see that WAKA-DT is darker than the rest.

Is this from the network or is it something the local channel is doing? If local, is there anything that can be done to correct it?

Glad you like the new box. Last time I checked Knology was also showing HDNET & HDMOV in the clear around QAM channel 109 I think. Also can you check 24.1 ota, getting a signal now but its in and out.

I still cannot get 24.1 and cannot get HDNET and HDNET movies on the clear qam

Anyone know what HD channels you can get through Brighthouse when you use clear qam? I moving to Wetumpka and I'm trying to decide whether I should use an antenna or just qam. Any adivce would be appreciated. I know Brighthouse doesn't have Fox but maybe it will when my house is done in March.

And just to add to the WCOV issue, I have a DirecTV H20 receiver, and I also have an ATSC tuner card in one of my PCs...the H20 won't pick up WCOV, and the ATSC tuner card in my PC will, both connected to the same antenna...

At the time, I was seeing darker black levels in everything on WAKA-DT along with some strange static sound.

Yesterday, it seems that it was back to where it should be and without the static sound.

I've got an D* H20 made by RCA, and it won't pick up WCOV...I think the word on street is the box made by LG is the best at picking up OTA signals but has issues w/ overheating.....the box I've got is peculiar when it comes to OTA......had an old Zenith 520 box that picked up WCOV great.....so either waiting for a firmware fix or get a newer box or for WCOV to go full power and see if that fixes my problem.

Well. I tested my LG 4200A on my fiances parent's Brighthouse cable. They have digital service with just the free HD channels. Here are the results:

79-1 HDNet Movies
79-3 NBA TV
83-1 CBS
83-2 CBS Weather
85-1 CNN Sports
85-6 Some kind of cartoon channel
87-1 NBC
87-2 The Tube
87-3 NBC Weather
90-1 ABC
90-2 PBS
103-1 FSC (some kind of sports channel)
115-1 Universal HD
115-1 Church Channel

Overall I'm happy with the results as I won't need an antenna. No TNT or Discovery though. NBA TV is nice as Dish doesn't carry it.

Correction: the Church Channel is 115-2. I was also able to get all of the digital music channels.

Don't expect anything to happen between WCOV and Brighthouse. This "contract negotiations" line only goes so far before you start believing that its not going to happen.

Anyone know why WNCF-DT switched from broadcasting today's Penn State-WI game to the Neb-Mo game during the middle of the Penn State-WI game??

We were not suppose to get the Penn State game in this area. Instead of admitting their mistake they just switched to the other game. Luckily I have ESPN game plan with DISH and I switched over to 458 to watch the rest of the game. Joe was just helped off the field on a stretcher after being ran into on the sidelines.

I figured that was the case when I saw this morning that the PSU-WI game was blacked out on the ESPN alternate channel on Dish, but was available on the Dish ESPN Game Plan (and the NB-MO game was not available for purchase on Game Plan). It's funny how the local newspaper doesn't know what game will be broadcasted when they go to print just the night before the game. I sure hope JoePa wasn't hurt too bad.

I asked the same question a month or so ago. After doing some research, I found out there are a LOT of people from all over the country complaining about the same thing. Sometime this year, ESPN HD live football went from great to crap.

The close ups and everything are fine, the high shot of the field and the stands all have pixelization and what look like compression artifacts to me.

ESPN HD says it isn't their fault.

I noticed 6 months ago when I switched to cable from dish. What is wierd some people on the forums say there picture is great while others say it is awful.

I didn't get back home until fairly late today so my ESPN HD viewing was limited.

The college game playing on ESPN HD (Arizona vs N Carolina?)just before 7 p.m., looked pretty good. The only time something looked odd was when the camera zoomed. The grass looked like it was having problems keeping up with the change. Pans didn't have that problem and the players looked pretty clear both close up and far away. I did not see the pixelating and fast motion noise that I experienced the first day I had the HD NET package which includes ESPN HD added.

Do factor in that Brighthouse has been out here on a Tivo S3 cable card install and I had mentioned that I had been seeing noise on the HD Net tier. Later that day, I found one of their techs doing an "audit" at the outdoor cable connection near the street. I wouldn't doubt that if they found something wrong with the signal, that they fixed it. Now if I could only get the Tivo working right. :-(

CBS is not broadcasting as many games in HD as other networks..the Tenn. game was not broadcast in HD..Pitt game will be.

I know TEN was not in HD. But, they were late with the HD game.

I rescanned on Knology this weekend and now I also get HDNet Movies in the clear. Knology still doesn't have "The Tube" yet. Still no CW or MyNetwork Tv either.

It was through an antenna. I don't think knology even sends out 12-03 QAM.

I live in Prattville, (36067) I have the HR10-250 and the batwing antenna installed by Dtv. I can not pick up waka or fox with any consistency. Do you know if I can purchase a better antenna and replace the batwing? Would that make a difference? Thanks for any advice.

I would think so. I am in Elmore and get excellent signals on both of those channels. I'm using an antenna from antennasdirect.com but you can look at antennas from Wingard, antenna craft, etc. But yes, you should be able to do much better than the antenna D* installed. Maybe somebody from the Prattville area will post.

Any idea if this would work from another city? Dallas? Philly? Any others? Are they all spotbeam or are the ones that come off 61.5 for all?

Atlanta Locals are on a spotbeam on 110 and work fine.
If you want to check your signal strength go to 110 TP1

Yea Atlanta HD locals are on 129.

NY, Boston, Philly, and DC, are on 61.5 with NY being the only one with the SD locals not on a spot.

I could careless about the SD locals. I'm only interested in the HD, since I have such a hard time picking up CBS (can't get a steady strong signal) and FOX (no signal at all) in HD where I live.

Well after doing some research, I found a dish network channel chart. From what the chart says, it appears that the philly hd locals (as 1 example) are not on a spot beam. Unless that chart is inaccurate this is good news for me.

Nothing on 61.5 is a spot. So your correct Philly Local HD is viewable from any where.

The reason I wanted SD locals also is because DVR space doesn't go very far on HD. ;)

Echo 8 in the 110 Slot has some spots and Echo 10 in the 110 slot is nothing but spots.

Echo 5 in the 129 slot has no spots.

Echo 7 in the 119 slot has some spots for locals also.

I only want HD locals because I need to be able to record 24 in January since I work while it comes on. DVR space isn't much of an issue for me since I pretty much watch everything I record within a day or so and delete it.

Also, the reason for philly locals is because I'm originally from NJ (insert random NJ joke here, but I lived there 21 years), and wouldn't mind catching the Philly news once and a while (for the philly sports, etc). I also have an address up there so I think I'll be good.

Well I installed a Sharp 42" plasma directly to charter cable today at a customers home.
Did a digital and analog channel scan.
Picked up 193 Digitals and 70 analogs. :D :D

Including several HBO/Showtime channels, as well as a digital Birmingham channel. Go figure.

Well the move to Philly went well. HD locals come in great. SD locals do not since they are on a 110 spot. No big deal though since all i wanted was the HD locals.

One thing I forgot about that may come back to hurt me is that I subscribe to NHL Center Ice and I hope they don't black out the Flyers game now that I am in Philly, or else I might have to move again in a couple weeks.

How is the Knology HD service? I am buying an HDTV as a gift for a family member who lives in Montgomery and I was wondering what channels Knology offers. From looking at their website, the programming is slim. Is ESPN2 offered? I have HD through DirecTV and was hoping for a similiar lineup.
