The BC-Miami game's audio is terrible. So bad I have to turn it off in fear of it damaging my audio setup.

Reminds me of the last girl I dated. Unfortunately she didn't come with a mute switch...

well I upgraded my 6412 for 3416. I don't think the HD looks as good on the 3416. Anyone else have a similiar experiance? Of course it could all be my imagination.

I had the same impression when my 6412 died and I was given a 3416 in exchange (at least I'm pretty sure that's the model, I'm not at home right now to check). The picture looked smoother on the 6412. The 3416 looks more pixelized to me.

I noticed no HD difference between 3416 and 6412. The 3416 has been more stable and the menu/command lags are much less. Overall I prefer it.

I've been thinking about trading in my 6412 for a 3416 as well... what's the latest word on the ease of doing this? If I go to my local Comcast office with my 6412 in hand, can I just ask for a trade for the 3416 on the spot? Or do I need to call ahead to make sure they have a 3416 in stock, or make other advance arrangements?

My local office said anything other then a DCT2000 requires an appointment. That is what they said when I tried to pick up a DCT700 for my second set.

I called the 1 800 # first, then they called my local office. Then I just went there and swapped. No appointment needed. I would call to make sure they have one though. According the 1 800 comcast people, the local offices don't have phones open to the public, seems strange to me.

I still think the 6412 is better on my tv(34" sony crt) than the 3416. the 3416 seems to lack some fine detail and it still has the remote control command queing issues. Happened in the first 10 minutes.

Got he annoucement that rates are going up Feb 1. But no annoucement of any new HD channels. Nothing about A&E HD or Golf /VS -HD. Direct TV is saying that they will add up to 70 HD channels this summer when their new birds are launched into orbit. Comcast has been slow to add
*shrug*

Since the start of last year, we've gotten NESN-HD, ESPN2 HD, UHD, National Geographic HD, and MHD. Five in one year I'd say is ahead of the pace of most cable operators. And they SAY they're hoping to have 35 by the end of the year.

Anyone in Metrowest have a 3416 yet? I went down a few months ago and they didn't have any, and I'm wondering if that's changed?

It also looks like we'll be getting the Tivo software in this area pretty soon. I wonder how much they'll charge?

Yes. I am in Metrowest and have a 3416 now (as well as a 6412). I did a no appointment swap at the Milford office. Each office may have a different supply situation, so you might want to run down to the Framingham office first to see if they have any.

I picked up a 3416 around Thanksgiving last year at the Hudson depot. Went in expecting to get a non-DVR box because I didn't think you could pick up a DVR at the depot. She offered the DVR, so I said, "what the heck!" and got one. Didn't even realize until I got home that it was the 3416. It seems to me to be much more stable. The other night I tried to schedule a recording on the 6412 and the POS rebooted on me! It did manage to save the request and started recording on time when it recovered, fortunately. One big difference between the two is the IR command responsiveness, I have yet to see the massive slowdowns I get on the 6412. Also, when you have the guide up, the HD PIP window on the 3416 looks normal, on the 6412 it's sluggish and looks more like a slide show.

It also looks like we'll be getting the Tivo software in this area pretty soon. I wonder how much they'll charge?

I've heard $10/mo? I'd get it if they somehow enable/add TivoToGo, but I doubt we'll see that anytime soon. Otherwise, I'll probably pass, I just don't watch that much TV that I need the nice extras that Tivo has. I have a SA Tivo and hardly use it any more, mainly because it doesn't do HD, but also because of my viewing habits, which are 90% movies and sports.

I have had all three and feel the 3416 offers the best PQ but has a few more quirks than the 6412. I would say I like the 3412 the least. In summary none are perfect so it's pick your own poison. Maybe when Tivo arrives on the scene, things will change so I guess well have to wait and see.

I noticed this morning several channels had some minor dropouts. Tonight it's real severe where just about all channels have some level of signal problem (video dropouts/pixelation, audio dropouts) and some channels can't even lock (TNT-HD).

I can access a diag screen in my TV that shows signal quality measurements and most channels are showing a sig quality of ~94 where it used to be ~99, and the SNR is down to 28 where it used to be 31-32 (max). Also it's showing continuous FAT Corrected Errors and occasional FAT Uncorrected Errors which would account for the dropouts. TNTHD shows almost no signal.

I'm assuming this is due to the weather/wind but wondering if others are seeing this and it's widespread or something local. I'm in south Nashua.

I don't know about Cambridge, but at one time, this was the list for Burlington:

All the digital versions of the analog channels (82-2, 82-3, 82-4, etc.) are now no longer provided in the clear. (The HD versions still are, as is 82-1, which has different programming than 84-1.)
Has anyone done a more recent mapping of the Arlington, MA area? The one above does not fit my scan. I also can't find any On-Demand channels other than the preview channel. Here is what my scan shows. There are many holes I'm sure so please fill in where you can.

While digging through the latest Comcast bill (with the '07 price sheets) I noticed a tidbit about CableCARD pricing: they show a price titled "second CableCARD for device" that's slightly less than the single CableCARD price. Looks like Comcast is trying to reasonably accommodate Tivo Series 3 owners.

Anyone else get a letter from Comcast saying essentially how great they are
and offering a $4 coupon towards an OnDemand movie? (LOL)

Seems like they are nervous about my town just having approved unanimously
giving FIOS a TV contract.

I agree that they are making moves to keep customers from jumping to FIOS - I got a call last week with an offer to ditch my Digital Phone package and move to the 3-way bundle with cable, internet, and digital voice. It seemed like a no brainer because I'm going from $116/month for 1 HD DVR with Digital Classic and Internet and another $40 for Digital Phone and 2 separate bills to a 1 year $118/month locked in price for all 3 with HBO and Starz thrown in.

Isn't this why competition is a GOOD thing?

Yeah, but a measly $4? Pretty lame if you ask me.

It doesn't matter, as I live in a big condo development and Verizon doesn't want to wire us up because it's an expensive job (all underground while the rest of Natick already has it) so I'm stuck with Comcast.
