Its great that we're finally getting ABC. Having the game yesterday was key! Did anyone else see them having some problems with the feed for a short time during the game? must be working out the bugs!

Actually the problems with the HD feed were not Comcast's. When the game switched to SD, I flipped to one of my OTA receivers and the problem was shown there as well. Apparently, either WLAJ or ABC was the cause of the problem.

Damn.. wish I'd read that little message about WLAJ-HD yesterday!!!
Watched game OTA on WJRT-HD.. cutting in and out a bit and not DVRd.. Would've been more pissed if Michigan had won and I couldn't save it.

i noticed this as well, it seemed like they had a problem with the digital feed a few times during the game. But overall i was extremely satisfied with the feed.

Why does college football look so much better then NFL football? It seems that when games are on CBS (WLNS 6) it artifacting really bad, though other non sporting events look fine in HD. Why is this? College football also looks alright on NBC (WLIX 10), and on ABC (WLAJ 53).

ABC, the ESPNs and Fox all broadcast in 720P. CBS and NBC broadcast in 1080i. 720P is better for action than 1080i - thus the breakups when watching in 1080i. Haven't been able to figure out why CBS is worse than NBC in this regard. Maybe CBS just doesn't dedicate enough bandwidth to the broadcast stream.

Does anyone know if the HDMI and component video ports can be used simultaneously on a Comcast DVR box (Motorola DCT6412 III)? I'm currently driving two TVs from our DVR using component and S-Video connections but will soon need HDMI and component.

Not offering FSN in HD is absolutely ridiculous. Why do people buy hdtvs - for sports!! Do they think that people in Lansing and Grand Rapids aren't pistons-red wings-tiger fans and aren't dying for that content. That's pretty much all I watch!

I understand that you have to do Detroit first, if they didn't they would have NO HD customers in the D!

TTRider - I think the Motorola series 3 does output component and HDMI simultaneously. At my friends' house we were comparing the HDMI and component the other day, had them both plugged into the same TV and they were both working. Don't quote me on it though!

I agree, but you won't get FSD HD on D* either. Its currently on the Detroit Spot Beam only. Grand Rapids just started getting a Spot Beam with their locals and hopefully they will get FSD HD soon. My buddy up in DeWitt has D* and he was told the Lansing DMA won't be getting a spot beam until atleast spring 07 when the new birds go up in the air.

I'm thinking that Ken H is correct that it is an equipment shortage and the Lansing DMA is just too small to be in top demand for hardware and new services.

I sent a couple emails back looking for info about the amount of bandwidth that the Lansing market has and other info. I'll keep ya'll updated as i hear/get more info.

I was hoping that the hold up for ABC was hardware and that we might have gotten some head end upgrades and Comcast might give us a gift with the new channels, but ya know, it sucks.

Honestly, Comcast has a better HD lineup than D* or E* and they appear to be doing the most to get that stuff upgraded and new services. We just have to face facts that we are in the 112th DMA. I hope to have FSD HD before spring training for the Tigers, but I will keep beating the dead horse until Comcast kills me :)

I was testing a digital receiver one night at a relative's place just west of Leslie and was getting WOTV out of Battle Creek solidly. Then the signal disappeared. Is anyone here from southern or western Ingham County who can tell me if they get WOTV consistently or if it is a luck of the draw deal most nights? I haven't been back out that way to test that receiver, plus I'm not convinced that receiver is working right, but my relative is excited about channel 41.2 because they carry all the local Pistons broadcasts and wants a permanent DTV receiver set up.

Thanks for the shout back, Steve. The weird thing about that night, WOTV had been cranking into the low 80s consistently from the afternoon until about 8:45 that night, then the signal disappeared. It must have just been that night where they may have had a technical problem, or it could be the used receiver I was testing isn't working right all the time (and I'm not convinced it is). If you are getting 70-80% routinely from another 15-20 miles north of where I was, then they should have no problem most of the time once I get a DTV receiver permanently installed.

I currently receive only OTA HD. Is there any noticeable difference in quality between OTA and Comcast HD? I read somewhere that cable providers compress the signals to save bandwidth.

I called Comcast to upgrade my service to receive HD channels but I currently have a promotion on my cable package and according to the sales person upgrading to HD will cancel my promotion. Ridiculous! The promotion expires in December so I can make the switch then, but I'm not convinced it's worth it because they offer only 5 channels in HD over OTA.

I noticed this last night and still nothing today.

I just talked to someone who was in the vicinity of WLAJ's transmitter and there is no electricity on for miles around. The wind and ice really played havoc with power lines out there. The power is supposed to be restored sometime tonight (Saturday) by midnight.

It came back on yesterday. I dug out my antenna and was watching WOTV on Saturday

I went ahead and got the comcast HD package with the motorola HD box, connected via component (Red/Green/Blue) and so far i am so not impressed that i am considering taking it back the same day that i have it....

I come to learn that they do not indeed have FOX (WSYM) in HD, or ABC (WLAJ). On top of it i have to use the zoom featur on my tv to get the HD signal to fill up the whole screen... but then the guide is all screwed up.

Is there anyway to get the actual hd cannels to fill up the whole screen without screching/zooming the image? And the HD Zoom button on the comcast remote does nothing...

Take a look in the HD Reception area or the HD Recording area for a thread about this stb. Lots of information about the functionality of the remote and how to enhance that functionality.

As everything regarding HD, that depends.

First, you must make sure that you're on the digital version of the channel. For example, on my Comcast system ABC is not only at channel 7 but also at 231. Its SOOOO much better! lol i can be very stupid at times. ESPNHD looks fricking sweet! its well worth it now! lol though i do think that the OTA picture for the locals looks better.

I've got the 6412 Phase III DVR and it comes with both HDMI and component. I'm using both simultaneously without any problems.

i do get OTA (but i do not get WYSM for some reason), but the main reason i went with comcast HD is because they "told me" that i got WSYM in HD, and low and behold i do not... if i had a dollar for every time comcast has lied/cheated/overbilled/underbilled, then overbilled/did not give me the discount rate/randomly shut off my service (because my neighbor never pays his bill)/be general idots..... then i would be a billionare.

I get WLAJ OTA, and not via comcast so im not very worried about that... But one thing i have noticed is that the distorition in CBS's football is somewhat lower on the cable then OTA.

I have a really stupid question that my girlfriend asked me and i dont have the answer for... we have HBO, so we get HBO HD and she wanted to know if those "soft porn" HBO shows come in in HD... i was like WTF i guess they would! hahahah she started laughing really hard! Funny stuff man!

Nope, Fox will be your exclusive outlet for four of the five BCS games. The Rose Bowl Presented By AT&T is the only non-Fox BCS game and that will be on ABC right after the Capitol One Citrus Bowl. ESPN/ESPN2 have most of the other games, although CBS and the NFL Network are broadcasting two each. I read elsewhere that NFLN is not planning to broadcast its two games (Texas and Insight) in HD and those may be the only two not to be HD this year.

I agree. No reason why they can't show those other channels to us. Hell, they have HD channels they show to us I haven't ever seen used.

FSD was not really on the ball technically, though. Whenever they had that shot of the entire ice surface it looked really washed out and overexposed. The closeup shots were just fine. I have seen some of the Red Wing games on HD Net and their broadcasts are almost always top-notch.

I noticed that too. But I'll gladly take over-exposed video with Ken Daniels and Mickey Redmond over having those HD Net announcers. Although, if HD Net continues to get Larry Murphy, that's not so bad. Its nice to see Shanny again, tonight he's on HD Net, Rangers Vs. Stars.

The box he installed is a single-tuner DVR and it comes with DVI and Composite outputs - I didn't ask for DVR but I guess it's standard. He hooked up the composite output and I put an order for a DVI-HMDI adapter at monoprice. I'm curious to see if there's any improvement.

lol if its comcast nothing is standard... check on your bill next month and i bet you will have a charge for the DVR. When they hooked up the cable here at my new house i specifically said i DO NOT want digital box's because i didnt want to be charged for them, and i was only getting extended basic the $49 package i think. But anyways the installed brought out 5 digital boxes and said i was all signed up for digital extended for $79.99 plus box rental... i was like WTF, so i made him call and fix it and take the damn set top boxes back.

If i had a choice i would not be with comcast, but i am stuck... lol.

we had dish as well for a while, i hated it. at first i though the PQ was pretty good, but after closer look it was really horrible. And not to mention loss of picture when ever it rained, snowed, dog sneezed etc....

Too many installers aren't fine tuning the dishes the way they should. If your dish is fixed the way it should be you should very rarely lose signal, certainly no more than you do with cable. A lot of installers just find a signal lock, check to see if there is a picture and call the job done. They need to check signal strength and if the strong transponders on each bird aren't at least mid-80s or better consistently, you need to make the guy stay until the job is done right. I've installed over a dozen dishes and always take a TV and receiver out with me so I can fine tune that dish to within a red c*nt hair of dead solid perfect.

On an almost totally unrelated note, our TiVos are now horribly confused by an analog channel change. Comcast moved analog ABC from cable 5 to cable 3 and moved CW from cable 12 to cable 5. Since CW is on the WLAJ .2 subchannel, TiVo picked up "WLAJ" and thinks that both channel3 and channel 5 are ABC affiliates.

Has anyone else noticed how bad the reception of WILX has been on Comcast? Its like i am watching OTA all over again, actually when i switch back to OTA it comes in better than Comcast. I dont know what their problem is, or if its WILX's problem.

I tried to watch Deal or No Deal on Monday and it completely froze. Worse than OTA! I was getting occasional signal loss but nothing compared to the Monday prime time problem.

Well two things for you Lansing folks...

First, I sent a nice long email to John Schneider and Brent Neal of the LSJ regarding the Lansing Market not getting FSD HD and the lack of information any one can provide to us regarding its status. I was looking at FSD's website and the suggestion was to not only write to your Cable provider, but to local newspapers as well. Mr. Schneider has taken up the causes of local sports fans in the past, so maybe he can get some more information than the lowly consumer can. I encourage all with Comcast service to write to them with your displeasures, esp those of you in East Lansing that are still on the ancient TCI network and don't even get WSYM or WLAJ. Secondly, I wrote to my account exec in hopes of information regarding Comcast's new sports channel for Vs. and The Golf Channel's HD content. Some major markets have started getting messages on their STBs that the Channel will be available in early January. I doubt Lansing will get it, but here is to hoping. My great fear is that once that channel goes live, Comcast will stop showing Vs. HD and NBA HD on InHD.

I'll add any information I get back on either of these things here.

I know the east lansing network is a pile of crap, but nobody at comcast can give me a seemingly valid answer as to what that status of the lansing network is. I've asked account reps and CSRs and techs and people in the office over on Miller rd. Nobody can or will tell me anything about whats going on. That leads me to believe that there is plenty of bandwidth and they are just lazy or lansing isn't a high enough rated DMA to get the hardware needed for the headend.

All i want is a freaking straight answer.

i just did some looking through my Channel Status on the STB and the latest channel added was 231 WLAJ HD and it is at a 705Mhz frequency. That leads me to believe that the main Lansing network has been upgraded to 750Mhz. I'm not sure when CBS HD was added but it is at 669Mhz, so unless it was moved, we've been on a 750Mhz for awhile.

Edit in:WLNS HD was added in the middle of March this year to Comcast. So unless their channel was moved, Lansing has been on a 750MHz network for pushing a year.

I was pretty sure it was a WSYM issue when the channel went out on Comcast cause i didn't los anything else. It was back a few mins later. Glad to see SF taking it to the Broncos right now.

When the OTA went out I turned over to the D* feed of WSYM-TV and they were test patterned for a few seconds before that feed returned. It took about five minutes to get the digital OTA back. And was Fox giving us a widescreen SD feed instead of HD for San Fran-Denver or was that also a WSYM issue?

That was a nationwide issue because of a lack of equip and issues in Denver. The graphics were from the local FSN station and there was no first down line. A few times during the broadcast the announcers said they were missing stuff because of the weather issues out there the past week.

WLAJ... Let's hope they don't forget to switch back to HD during the Rose Bowl!!!!

Was it WLAJ that didn't use the 5.1 Surround for the game, or was it ABC being too cheap to Mic it in 5.1? Can't believe they were using SD camera's for ABC commentators before and during the game.

I was at a friends house up in DeWitt and the signal was complete **** OTA. Kept going in and out, however, it was in 5.1. Back home in lansing now and watching the Fiesta Bowl on Comcast and its fine again. WLAJ just sucks in general, before Comcast had them, I;d pull WOTV out of Battle Creek before watching WLAJ

I live near the Saginaw/Waverly intersection in West Lansing...I pick up WOTV out of battle creek with just a little RCA amplified antenna. Sometimes I have to hang it out my front window, but I get WOTV better than WLAJ.

I would imagine that once the Lansing Headend hardware is updated, we'll get most/all of this except My Network TV and The CW because neither of our locals are in HD yet (nor do I believe they have any plans to).

I read in another thread that Delaware/Maryland systems had an InDemand HD PPV Events channel and NBA League Pass/NHL Center Ice games show up there along with other PPV events that are available in HD.

Once again, I'm to the point where I'll be shocked when the 5 new channels Detroit/Flint have gotten in the Last 6 weeks show up in Lansing.

I still encourage eneryone to write to John Schneider of the LSJ about the HD expansion in general and Brett Neal of the LSJ about the lack of FSD HD. Some exposure might help the push for network upgrades or just getting feeds sent to Lansing.

Just keep pushing Comcast, call them weekly, daily, multi times per day. Fight your way up the chain until your get an acceptable answer. Let people know that you are unhappy. Unless it gets out that we are getting screwed, nothing will change.

I wrote to the LSJ guys, maybe if they get a few more letters somehting will show up in the paper or they will get some answers from Comcast

D* released a press release about the launch of its two new satellites. They should have the Lansing/Jackson market available by the third quarter of the year. The last I saw is that this market will be made available when the second bird is activated. The first bird will be most of their new national HD channels, the RSNs (including Fox Sports Detroit I hope), other local market HD channels and premium HD channels. I would think the new Big Ten Network will go active when the second bird goes up as well.

I have been back arguing with Comcast again over bringing the new HD services rolled out to Detroit/Flint DMA in the last two months. Almost 3000 words between three emails to them. With two "canned" replies. I've noticed that either when i get cynical (which did during this most recent message) or around the 3rd-4th email that I finally get a real reply or phone call.

I'll wait and see what happens. I've asked a simple question, what are the plans for bringing the 5 HD channels that were added to Detroit/Flint to Lansing and the entire State of Michigan? If there are none, what is the reasoning behind this (money, subscribers, network, hardware upgrades)?

Nobody seems to want to give me a straight answer to this question. So I guess I'll just keep asking for escalations and whatnot.

I've found that this is a very good way for me to vent frustration too :)

Yer in Haslett, which is the East Lansing Network. Its the very old TCI cable network which is still like 550Mhz or less. There just isn't the bandwidth out there.

Flipped on WILX to watch Law and Order tonight and it was in SD, called the news room and within 10 seconds the HD signal was being fed.

It was a notional issue. I talked with somebody in Master Control at WILX during the game.

The hockey game was in hd and had audio on wood dt, I like being able to pull in GR stations for this reason, when the lansing market screws up..I usually have a backup. Also today was anybody else watching MSU bball and notice the high amount of frames skipped? I've always noticed on football, but to a lesser extent...it was much worse with this game...

TCI was cool, they had the CBC and I would hang out at my sisters apartment to watch canadian hockey

FYI, my first Comcast bill came after I switched to HD and they installed a single-tuner DVR as a set-top box. No extra charge for the DVR. What Comcast calls DVR is the double-tuner DVR which lets you watch 1 channel while recording another or watch a recorded show while recording two different channels at the same time. I guess change is coming but at a slow pace.

I got a message on my set-top box dated 1/22 that says new HD channels will be added:

201- FSN Detroit
207- Versus/Golf

Hurray!!! So far the channels do not appear in the guide but I guess by tomorrow they should be there.

WILX produces WSYM's news broadcasts right now. I think their contract runs another 3 years.

I realize this forum isn't for garage sale items, but since this set would cost a fortune to ship, I figure the only one who might be interested is someone local. Anybody want a free TV? As you might have guessed, there's a small catch. The set needs work.

There is a problem with the convergence board. About 90% of the time, when the convergence board has a problem, it can be fixed by replacing two amplifier ICs. I replaced those and it fixed part of the problem, but there is something else wrong, because the red gun will not move horizontally. My estimate is that a repair shop can probably fix this for $200-$500. However, I've already bought a new TV and don't want to put any more money in this one.

So, if you want it, come get it. I WON'T ship it. Also, it's in a basement and so some disassembly will be required to move it.

new to this thread. are you saying that wlns puts out a weaker hd signal than all the other networks? that might explain why down here in hanover i get really strong signals
from 47,10 and 53 but squat from 6 hd. i know from me its just over 40 miles away but if i turn my existing tower mounted antenna to the northwest a little i can get 8 out of gr in hd and mind you this isn`t any highly rated antenna. i did
order a cm4228 antenna due here thursday so hopefully this will allow me to

I'm to the point of going door to door through out the lansing market to find out how many people have HDTVs, Comcast and other providers. I want to find the numbers that it would require to show Comcast that there is the demand and need to have more HD in the area.

get your hd . it looks alot better than than that compressed signal you will get with cable
or sat. i bought a large screen hd plasma for the family room at christmas and with an outdoor antenna the hd is great. (some shows and stations are better than others) the
only network i can`t get from here (hanover) is wlns which i addressed in a previous post.

I had an indoor antenna for about 1 month. It worked fine some days but really bad when my neighbors upstairs had a party or something. I wanted to watch football one day and the OTA signal was weak. The picture was breaking down every 10 seconds and that convinced me to switch HD cable. Plus it's only $5/mo. A stronger antenna is around $40 and still might have signal issues. Another plus for cable was the ESPN in HD :D

homeoflady, WLNS and WKAR are located east of Lansing. WILX, WLAJ, & WSYM are all located between Lansing and Jackson, so that maybe why you get 10, 53, and 47, and have trouble with 6. I think WLNS is running more power than any of the other Lansing stations, but I may be wrong on that. The SNL show you saw last weekend may have been a old show that was not done in HD, and my guess is that WLAJ was not showing a network HD program either at 11:30PM on a Saturday.

Gabe2006, wish I could get HD cable, with ESPN HD for $5 a month. I would be willing to pay $60 a year for cable. I'm not sure of the rates out here, but I bet I would have to pay a lot more than that to get the digital locals and ESPN in HD.

I have an antenna and Comcast, i switch back and forth and there is no difference. Only the locals are unencrypted so I pay comcast to get ESPN, ESPN2, Discovery, TNT, InHD, MHD, and soon FSN HD & Vs/Golf Channel all in HD. Plus, when the weather gets nasty, I don't have service interruptions like i would get with my antenna. I also use my antenna to pull in WOTV out of battle creek when WLAJ has ESPN Plus on.

Comcast says they send the exact signal that is received from the local and do not compress/hd lite anything. Only E* and D* are confirmed with HD Lite. There has not been anything I've seen that would lead me to believe that Comcast is doing any compression.

If the channel is a hybrid of both channels you may have to use the individual listings for each channel and guess as to whose programming will be on at a particular time, kind of like InHD. The priority would go to live programs. You might also want to try using different metro areas' zips to see if the channel has been loaded in their lineup. If I recall correctly the VSGLF just got added to lineups in SE Michigan and the channel info might not be passed on to TV Guide and Titan yet for those locales.

This will prepare you for having kids, should you and the missus be so inclined. Then you will need permission but the answer will always be "No."

So, I unhooked my Comcast STB and ran a piece of coax into my TV (Samsung 42"DLP w/ built in tuner) to see what HD channels I could pick up with the QAM tuner. I ran the auto program on every possible setting and I was always just getting the standard cable package up to channel 65, the golf channel. A friend up in Dewitt has a similar setup and he gets his HD channels in the 80s-100s range, however, i get just static on those channels. He said they are normally on something like 93-2. I had 3 options for Cable type: STD, HRC, and IRC. STD and IRC found all the normal channels and HRC found nothing, but all the normal channels showed up fine.

Any thoughts on getting HD channels w/o the STB? I was under the impression that if I had another HDTV w/ tuner that I could just plug in and it would find the locals and a few select other channels in the clear. Perhaps Comcast has some Filters on my line that I need to get removed?

FCC states that the locals have to be unencrypted. I believe their are filters on the lines that must be removed by a Comcast Tech, as i said I have a buddy up in DeWitt that has Comcast and no STB and gets the HD local channels..

Anyone else having problems with Lansing CBS, 6-1. I have had six *D Tivo replacements in the last month, now have the HR20, but hard to get to signal strenth of Off-Air. Think I finally got it and showed 87% but get breakups showing channel 771 whatever that means. Did a secondary setup for B.C., Kazzo, And G.R. but did not get 3-1. Tried to find the locals in my channel setup but could not navigate to them to see what was listed. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

My sis-in-law just bought a Sony HDTV, a KDL32s2010 and I think it has a QAM tuner. She's simply connected her cable line from the wall to her TV. It's Comcast cable and she's having a hard time finding the digital locals. For example, she thinks she's found CBS on channel 9 and she thinks it's the HD because it's crystal clear. And she has Cable turned on in the setup settings menu.

Does channel 9 sound right for Lansing's CBS affiliate?

I think the current 42" Sammy DLP is the HL-S4266W. (Checks Samsung website) The manual never mentions QAM or ATSC but implies that it's an ATSC-only tuner. Quoting the Q&A section of the manual for the HL-S4266W: "Q: Can I connect my DTV set-top receiver to my cable TV service? A: Cable TV systems use a different method for transmitting digital TV programs that is currently incompatible with broadcast DTV set-top receivers. So you will still need to use an outdoor or indoor antenna to receive OTA broadcast DTV programs."

Well damn, i thought it was a QAM tuner. If its ATSC only, then this all makes sense. Thanks for the info :)

Anyone else having problems with Lansing CBS, 6-1. I have had six *D Tivo replacements in the last month, now have the HR20, but hard to get to signal strenth of Off-Air. Think I finally got it and showed 87% but get breakups showing channel 771 whatever that means. Did a secondary setup for B.C., Kazzo, And G.R. but did not get 3-1. Tried to find the locals in my channel setup but could not navigate to them to see what was listed. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

I was in DeWitt at a friends house and we watched OTA, but through an HR20 and the signal was solid and perfect the entire game.

Only if you use the Comcast STB, the digital HD for non STBs should be in the low hundreds i believe

wow, cbs hd (uhf 59) was the toughie for me. i had to get a new outdoor antenna a channel master 4228 that is supposed to be the best for uhf reception and it is from what i can tell. without a preamp (have one but not installed yet, too doggone cold right now) i can get 6,10,23,31,43,47, 53,18 all in hd (no hd for 18) and most in analog as well. i even get 8 out of gr and hd 8 also. and this is with the antenna only pointed one way on a 30 ft. tower. (no rotator) i mainly got this antenna to get 6 in hd for the superbowl but it got alot of other new stations as well. (highly recommend) i live in hanover. like yourself 10,47 and 53 are all about the same distance for me (20-23 miles) and same direction (8-20 degrees) from the north. what ota antenna are you using ? indoor or outdoor? it would seem if you can get 10 and 53 you should get 47. if outdoor may need to tweak your direction.

My buddy up in DeWitt has trouble pulling in WSYM also. He gets random drop outs of audio and video. I always attributed it to the trees in his back yard, but with hearing others in and out on the area having issues, might be a larger issue.

I haven't checked the DB, but does anybody know their transmitting power? What is it compared to the other locals?

Last I checked WSYM was at 636Kw I think. Pretty good power. They have a construction permit to go to 933Kw. I have no problem getting WSYM with an XG91, but from DeWitt, it may be a longer distance.

Got home from work and 201 FSD HD/207 VSGLF are missing from the channel guide. Powercycled the STB and nothing changed. Called Comcast support and they pinged the box, but nothing changed. I saved the announcement on one of my STBs and read it word by word to the CSR. As usual, they have no clue that new channels are being deployed.

Sucks that Rich, my former account exec, is no longer in that position. I still have his former number, I've called it in the past and gotten other people that have helped me out. Might need to give them a call if this conversation continues to go nowhere...

Conversation went nowhere, talked with a supervisor whom stated that the message went out in error and because Comcast is currently going through a "Computer System upgrade," nothing is currently being deployed. He said that this information applies to both Lansing and Grand Rapids.

I also called Comcast about the “missing” new HD channels. “Saundra” immediately said Comcast was currently trying to reconcile two different billing systems between Western and Central Michigan and that process delayed the channels. I asked what their internal billing systems had to do with me watching new HD channels and she didn’t have an answer. When pressed as to when the new channels would be here, she said “Hopefully by the 15th of the month.”

I then asked about digital phone service because we’ve received at least two messages about it being available “soon”. Saundra said it would be available in 3-4 months. Last summer, on a tour of the Cable Association of Michigan along with the local Comcast legislative rep, I was told phone service would be available in August 2006. We got tired of waiting in December and switched to Vonage phone service for both my home business line and our residential line.

It is apparent once again that dates mean nothing to Comcast. But I admit, it is hard to beat the service once the delays are over and the long promised services are delivered

I'd also love to know what a billing system has to do with deploying HD channels to an existing package. Also, I haven't been able to pay my bill for almost a week. I was told on Friday that it would be Monday. Monday it was Tuesday. Today its hopefully by the end of the week.

It'll be very interesting to see what happens if/when ATT/SBC start putting up some franchises in Michigan.

This morning I turned on the TV and it shows FSNHD on 201 but it says "Off Air" and when I tried to see if they have some off air logo or something my STB box said "Not authorized". I guess they are still working on it. It's coming but slower than advertised.

FSNHD will always be off line except for pistons/red wings/tigers pregame, game broadcast, DSR, FSN Final Score and eventually random FSN college sports.

Its not considered a "full time" channel

So 202 was back this morning for ESPNHD, but now 203 ESPN2HD says not authorized. These people are pissing me off something fierce. Waiting for CSR again to fix my cable packages.

I had to call billing this morning to get my new account number so I could pay my bill. Did the Comcast call back thing which makes waiting a bit easier. Got my new online account setup, but bill payment was still down. The CSR took my payment and waived the fee. She was quite nice and is doing some research as to when we might get 201/207. Told me she would call back, but I haven't heard anything yet.

The last email i saw from a CSR said hopefully by the end of February. I love how these dates just keep getting pushed back. Honestly I think they need to pick a date to add the service, then add 7-10 days and send out the messages of stuff being added. Then, if it works as planned and their are no issues, we get it early and are not pissed off and if there are problems, they have a window to get it fixed in.

Got home from work today and both FSD HD and VSGLF HD were in the guide and working.

The Golf Channel's coverage of Pebble Beach is just amazing, that course is just beautiful.

Can't wait for Sunday and Monday, back to back Red Wings in HD!!!

Guess I chose the wrong moment to upgrade from the normal box (6200) to a HD DVR box (6416 III). Brought it home Thursday, waited on hold, box receives no signal, 'pinging' the box results in nothing. Had to do this twice as the first rep hung up on me.

Second rep thinks it's a bad box. So, I get another one on Friday, burn most of Friday waiting over 110 minutes for someone to pick up with the same result.

"One moment please this channel should be available shortly" is my whole lineup through the STB. Directly connected to the TV, there's signal (in SD) up to channel 65.

Theoretically someone should resolve this tomorrow.

Its because the game is blacked out on InHD. Fox Sports Detroit has the primary broadcast rights to the game for our area and they are the only ones that get to show it.

Occasionally, if the game is on My Network TV or something like that, then they forget to throw the black out switch.

Yeah, whenever upgrades are occurring, service is rough. Everything has been good on my setup since Friday afternoon.

I've been PMing with CPanther95 regarding our thread for the Lansing DMA. Srgilbert started this thread in March of '03, however, has not posted anything since August of '05 and there is no way to edit the first post in the thread with new DTV/HDTV information.

CPanther95 informed me that there is no way to designate a mini-mod just for this thread to clean it up and make that first post have all our information for OTA, Comcast, eventually D*, E*, and any other CableCo's that come to the area.

The option he gave would be to have this thread closed by a full mod and start a new thread that an active member can have the first post and edit.

Would anyone be opposed to me starting a new thread with all our current HDTV info in the first post for new users, plus a link back to this old thread incase anyone needs to reference it.

I had the same concerns, but one thing that AVS is trying to do in the Local threads is give all the local information in the first post, then after that if a question is not answered, post a new reply. That would help with getting the same question over and over from new members.

Apparently everyone @ Comcast is suffering with this new software they're using. Tech was very late (apparantly it takes *them* 40 minutes to contact home base now when their work involves a call in), apologetic, and quite competent. Problem's fixed and along the way he spotted a degrading coax connector which helped signal quality (and thus PQ).

I may need to pay a visit to the Comcast office, I'd love the extra 40gb of space on the DVR for more HDTV. I'm still stuck with the 6412 III.
