We also just installed a new HD server and new automation system and we are having issues interfacing to the PSIP. Hopefully, we will get that fixed soon. Billy, Randy and I have been very busy the last few weeks!

Ray,
Did you guys adjust some picture quality settings? The color looks really good now on widescreen syndicated shows.
I sure miss that 24/7 wx channel by the way. I can't get any radar or maps worth a darn up here at night on TV.
Any suggestions on OTA antennas? All the stations are 17-20 miles from my home, and yellow on attennaweb. Would like an indoor for ease if possible.
If you want an indoor, a channel master 4220 would be my choice. It is a small 2 bay bow tie.

Indoors as in set top or attic mount?
If you're looking to receive Wilmington locals, you really shouldn't need to worry with adjusting for best reception by channel...there are only two towers and a decent 2 or 4 element bowtie should have a wide enough reception window for both towers simultaneously. If you care about CBS (WILM), you'll probably want to go attic mount. I don't do OTA myself, but a friend who lives off of 23rd can't get CBS with a set top.
If you can go attic mount, I recommend a DIY 4 bay bowtie. The commercial bowties like a Channel Master 4221 are compromised somewhat for shipping purposes. I forget the exact center channel tuning, but it's a bit lower than optimal for our area. Using the math from a thread on lumenlab (http://lumenlab.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=9613) (you'll need to join to view), I built a 4 bay for my parents over in Whiteville. I used channel 37 as the center frequency, which produced a mast that's about 6' tall. Without a reflector, they actually get all of the Wilmington stations except WILM along with the MB-Florence stations off the backside. Not bad, especially since the SC CBS station in Florence is broadcasting in 5.1. Parts cost is probably less than $20 and an hour or so of your time. I can dig up the details for the bowtie lengths/spacing if you're interested. Sorry, that's the best photo I have of it...ignore the batwing in the background.
-Brent
I agree with riverwolf. Outside and/or higher is always better. I use a Winegard HD 8800, and I can receive WILM LD usually after 7 PM outside their viewing area. I also get WFXB, WPDE and occasionally even WBTW even though it is VHF.
Sorry about the late reply JSP.
Yes, we have added a full HD Grass Valley HD server so now we can run our
local programs and spots in HD (when available). Plus, we have upgraded our Grass Valley Concerto routing system for HD. That unit is doing our OTA switching.
Thanks for noticing. We have been working very hard to give our viewers the best quality image and audio possible.

Very cool!
I've been noticing lots of changes lately, keep up the good work. :) Insider HD isn't something I normally watch, but I couldn't help but tune in and stay with it when I saw the quality.
brice52 08-23-10, 07:37 PM Anyone else noticed the Wilmington DMA increased from 134 to 132?
Anyone else noticed the Wilmington DMA increased from 134 to 132?
Was this listed as 2010-2011 or was it last years?
I have kind of started watching WWAY a lot more lately. Their evening news and weather team is doing so much better now! They are reminding me of the way they ran it years ago.
brice52 08-24-10, 05:49 PM It just showed up on the AVS Forum when they grouped each (city group) by there self. This happened with in the last week.
Took some time today to inspect my connections at the antenna. I discovered a lot of corrosion. The oceans salty spray really took it's toll. My rotor and amp also look like the elements had deteriorated the casings. Spiders were in the amp too. lol I encourage you to inspect these things once a year and make sure water and such hasn't done damage. I was getting some brief drops on a couple of channels. It had been two years I believe since I had installed the winegard.
So right now I have the amp disconnected and am going to hook it up on the ground were the coax enters the house. WWAY (95%)and WSFX (86%)come in much stronger than WECT (55%)without the amp. With the amp they are all about the same. I figure with the amp on the ground, if Earl and Fiona come, and we lose power, I can just disconnect the amp and won't need power to that to watch TV. I can just power the TV to the generator.
My WECT signal is quite weak. Has anyone else noticed this? It was fine last week.
brice52 09-14-10, 06:46 PM WECT for the past week had been in the mid 60's SGL.
Today it is back between 98 and 100 SGL.
Even so I did not have any pixielation at all.

I was down in the 50's, now I'm back to 85 or so... I guess they fixed whatever the issue was.
jagmonster 09-14-10, 08:35 PM I had the same issues with WECT but now things are back to OK.
spunky721 09-19-10, 10:10 PM How hard is it to get WILM? I've hooked up a RCA ANT751 to my TV. The antenna is currently in the FROG and will be attic mounted once I know I can get WILM. No matter what I do, I don't seem to be able to get WILM. Anyone have any tips/thoughts?

That really isn't the best choice of antenna, because there are no VHF local stations in Wilmington. Take a look at how short the UHF portion is. WILM is on channel 40, so you need a longer yagi style UHF or a bowtie style. A radio shack yagi or bowtie would be a huge improvement over that RCA.

Thanks for the tip. I've ordered another antenna. Hopefully, it will work out.
Just don't forget that you need to aim for Delco, which is where WUNJ is also. WWAY, WECT,a nd WSFX are further south and have much more power than WILM.

Anybody here use QAM for cable TV?
I am curious because Time Warner sent out a mailer a few months back in the area saying that if you had QAM you would be able to pick up Oxegen channel and Soap network along with a couple of others they took down from the analog set. Then they sent out another mailer after this saying that you could get a digital box free for a year. The first statement was a lie because I have tried at a friends to help them pick up the channels and they could not, also silicone dust does not list those channels as being available.
beazster 12-02-10, 04:02 PM My non-cablecard QAM tuner only receives locals. I'm pretty sure when they say these are available via QAM they mean a cablecard QAM tuner like Tivo.
Not really a lie I guess, but more of just not telling the whole story.

Can someone from WECT maybe comment on when we might be able to view some HD syndicated programming? I know Ellen, Dr. Phil, The Doctors, and those are HIGHLY viewed around here on your station.
Report: Southeastern Media Stations Sold
Community Newspaper Holdings outlets going to Thomas Henson
By Michael Malone -- Broadcasting & Cable, 1/3/2011 4:28:44 PM
Community Newspaper Holdings Inc. has agreed to sell the four stations in its Southeastern Media group to Thomas Henson for $24 million and the assumption of $50 million in debt, according to TVNewsCheck.
The stations are Fox affiliates WXTX Columbus (GA); WSFX Wilmington (NC) and WFXG Augusta (GA), and CW affiliate WUPV Richmond.
Calls to Community Newspaper Holdings headquarters in Birmingham were not returned at presstime. Three of the stations have service agreements with Raycom. A call to Raycom was not returned either.
Henson is buying the stations through his Southeastern Media Acquisitions company.
Community Newspaper Holdings has announced it is moving to a new facility in Montgomery, Alabama, to a building being built by Retirement Systems of Alabama, later this year or next.
Raycom is also based in Montgomery, and is controlled by Retirement Systems of Alabama.

WECT and WSFX keep running crawls saying they are off Directv. No agreement with any Raycom stations apparently.

Interesting that the Raycom stations are still on Directv even though they say they are not. At least WBTV in Clt is :)
It was nice to see the ACC basketball game last night on WWAY in hi def this time. The first game they aired this season was a wreck, and they were the only channel that carried it.
is wsfx having any transmission problems...their signal has been a nightmare trying to pick up this month?

i am in monkey junction..i get wway, wect, wilm, wepx, and wunj with no problem but wsfx is weak and has been all month
I was hoping someone from your area would comment. It must be the spot your antenna is mounted. Some sweet or dead spots can occur. Is this an indoor or outdoor antenna? Is the coax line fairly new or is it that thin RG-59 kind? Any amps? I had an amp go bad and it was only causing one channel not to work...
Another cause could be water in the line or at the antenna connection outside.

Any chance WUNJ is causing part of the problem? Try turning the antenna. I never noticed this before because I am on cable Wsfx is on real channel 30 and WUNJ is on 29. Look at he bullseye around 9:00 o'clock. Wonder if it work to move the antenna further south?

I've been having problems too. While recording a program on WSFX, I switched to that channel to check signal strength, and the picture was in window box format, then it switched to full screen HD... so I would assume they are having some kind of equipment problems.
I can even get ION sometimes but not WSFX, and all the other locals come in strong...
Trip in VA 02-11-11, 03:13 PM WSFX increased power from 80 kW to 170 kW recently. But that shouldn't have caused these issues.
- Trip
Interesting Rich. I have had some brief issues with WUNJ here. Signal strength seems lower than it used to be, and at times when atmospheric conditions change, it won't come in at all, even when aimed properly. It used to be I could aim well off of the tower and still receive them, but not anymore.
So maybe there is some interference between WSFX and WUNJ. ?
Trip on your website you have 190kW for WSFX

Trip in VA 02-11-11, 03:34 PM I know that's what the permit is for, but they told the FCC that they only built out 170.6 kW.

What the hell has happened?? I can't get 26 OR 39 this morning.
EDIT: looked at my antenna and it is WAY off what the rotor control says! Looks like it got froze into a position or something. Time to get on the roof. :(
Anyone know why WWAY stopped offering digital surround sound on shows that don't have 5.1? They used to have their system set up like WECT and WSFX where you could get surround instead of just left and right front stereo audio.
All my speakers are shown as being "active", but only sound out of left and right during The View and Dr. OZ
Last night during the Oscars I saw a brief clip from WWAY with a blackened out person on there. The clip said something like "a familiar face comes to a new place soon." The person was giving the "peace" sign. Looked to me like WWAY has brought on WECT's old chief Meteorologist. If this is the case, that will be fun to watch.
Also lately I have been having severe break-ups on WSFX. Yesterday tried to watch part of the race, and it kept going postal and even off the air.
WWAY will really be loaded with Meteorologists then... George Elliott I presume? Maybe on day we'll have a station where all the anchors are meteorologists too... :)
I too am still having problems with WSFX...

It looked like Elliot to me. He is one of the best at delivering the weather I have ever watched. I enjoyed watching him draw on the doppler radar during my first hurricanes. LOL
Yea, it didn't say what he'd be doing... He might be sitting at the desk with Phillips for all we know.
I wanted to ask if any of you in the market might want to ask the TV stations if they would consider picking up Antenna TV as a subchannel? Maybe dump RTV or WECT weather for it?

fadakakaruk 04-08-11, 07:38 PM I am attempting to cut off cable and need advise on antennas. I live near Jungle rapids and have been attempting to use a TERK outdoor antenna but I am only getting 70% on most stations and nothing on WILM. Any recommendations would be great.
Although the magnetic bearings to the transmission towers will be a bit different for you, here's what they are for me:
WILM (CBS), WUNJ (PBS) = 309 degrees
WWAY (ABC), WECT (NBC), WSFX (Fox) = 274 degrees
You'll have to most likely tweak the aim of the antenna in order to get all stations...
http://antennaweb.org/aw/welcome.aspx is your friend... :)

If it is one of those plastic things, take it back or throw it away. It's junk. You need a metal UHF antenna. Either an 8 bay whisker type, or the kind that looks like an arrow for enough power to receive channel 40.
I live over 60 miles away, and have a higher signal than you do on ABC, NBC and FOX.
Kind of been waiting for someone to comment on the new EAS system they got at WECT and WSFX.
I noticed they still cannot get HD on with the new system on 26. Also when they turn on the EAS on 26, it makes the picture look very washed out. WECT looks normal.
Overall, I like the unit, much improvement over the old thing in the corner, as far as information goes, just wish it had a radar feature in the color coded map.

There just a few of the new boxes that will do the new CAP codes that will work with the FOX splicer. The splicer has to be configured to work with it. We went through this months back when we installed our new EAS/CAP box. The splicer isn't very friendly to set up from the station end either. By design it only displays a 4:3 upper 3rd crawl. Why, I have no idea other than that is what FOX set the specs for and it is hardcoded in the firmware of the splicer and the audio has to be taken via the local stations switcher instead of a direct audio connection in the splicer like every other downstream inserter. For something that was planned for in the initial design of the splicer, it looks and acts more like an afterthought.

Is anyone in Wilmington picking up WILM (CBS)? I have a metal UHF in my attic (2 - story house) with an amp....I have no problem picking up all stations...but with CBS I can't even pick up a low strength signal.
beazster 05-19-11, 08:55 AM Does anyone know what the physical channel is for FoxHD on TWC? My clearqam lost it again.
Is FOX 85-13?
Also WWAY is off-the-air.
Seems WECT deleted the outer counties from it's EAS system. What a bright idea that is... Didn't work for WWAY cause they put them back up when Jerry took over.
AndThenScottSays 06-26-11, 06:58 PM Can the outer counties even pick up WECT anymore? I'm usually against this kind of stuff but this one makes a little bit of sense.
Well, I'm picking them up in HD OTA, and I must admit, I prefer them over WITN because of the digital sound, plus their signal comes in without any breakups too and WITN tends to skip out every now and then - they are on analog cable in Onslow, Duplin, Sampson, and Cumberland counties. Also Robeson county has lots of viewers I've read. Don't know if they are on cable there still or not though.
You are only required to cover your assigned EAS operational area that is assigned by the state. Beyond that, it is optional. Most stations usually include all the counties in their coverage area whether they are in the primary operational area or not. The Wilmington Operational Area consists of Columbus, Brunswick, New Hanover, Pender and Onslow Counties.
Isn't cable supposed to broadcast these watches and warnings on all their channels with their own equipment? If so, they aren't doing it. When I was in Fayetteville during the tornadoes, the cable never ran the warnings. In fact the only way I knew we were in the warning was tuning to WECT and seeing the red box over their EAS map where I was for Cumberland county. In ten minutes, it hit just a few blocks over.
nc88keyz 07-09-11, 08:16 AM not exactly OTA related, but WLFL-TV 18 (CW) Raleigh NC is now appearing on the guide and is analog "of course" for DirecTV
In parentheses it says (Virt)
Full Descriptions,
Wilmington, NC WLFL 18 CW (Virt)
CW television services from WLFL-TV, 18, Raleigh, NC
Be nice if it was Mpeg4 HD
BTW,
Anyone knows the qam channels open on charter, with caps on ATT-DSL it looks like thats where i am headed.
That's strange, because WLFL airs on channel 27 (22.1 virtual) I didn't think they could air out of market in a county that isn't a border to Sampson or Cumberland?
If anyone has any tips on how to watch WWAY for the storm (or the others) when the lights go out, now is a good time to share those so that people can go get what they need to see doppler radar on TV. Batteries and a handheld TV with a digital tuner? A UHF antenna? Remember that cable and satellite will likely go down very quickly. Satellite will go down in heavy bands of rain.
I picked up a small digital tv a few years back--they are a lot less expensive now--and a cheap bowtie clipon that attaches to the VHF whip antenna. I can receive all the stations if I play with the antenna enough...
Definitely charging it up in the next few days...
Damn storm is predicted to hit at night, why do so many of them hit us at night?
Starting to prep today after work--definitely taking this one seriously...
brice52 08-23-11, 06:44 PM I have a 15kw auto standby generator. I have an OTA module in the vip722k receiver. It keeps receiving even if the Sat is off.

You'll get 2 hrs max out of the internal battery in a portable dtv..and that is assuming the local stations can stay on air during the storm..I have several commercial grade 54AH UPS batteries that I have for when the power goes out for portable Tv's and LED lighting.
http://www.cdstandbypower.com/product/battery/vrla/pdf/12_200.pdf
bdfox,
I've got a generator that I've had for 12 yrs all ready to go if I have to, but I usually don't power it up right away, or all the time. I have it mainly to keep the deep freezer and refrigerator going, but I can light the house and watch TV on a small set with it, but I know most don't have generators. WWAY did a report tonight letting people know what to do for TV and what would not work, so that was a good thing for those who had not considered how to watch TV in this kind of event. Right now it appears (fingers crossed) that the highest winds will be far enough away that we likely won't see widespread power outages! :)
bdfox18doe 08-23-11, 07:46 PM I hope so for all that it passes by..make sure you test the generator well in advance..I test mine twice a year..spring and fall..and while it is running under load..turn off the gas and let it run dry to help prevent the carburetor from gumming up. And when all else fails..make sure you have batteries for your AM RADIO!
Actually, during the last hurricane, I found that there wasn't really any new info on radio or tv during the bulk of the storm--it's more just something to do while waiting it out, because let's face it, if the power is out and it's storming, there isn't a whole lot to do except drink and listen... LOL... and getting updates on when the eye will pass or when it moves offshore...
Of course, if you have a generator, that gives you more options...
I wouldn't keep the tv on for long periods of time, knowing that the battery has a limited life... maybe top of the hour updates...
I am having some reception issues this morning with ABC, NBC, and FOX. I never have breakups with these... Could they be testing generators or something?
Just looked up and see that Bounce TV starts Monday the 26th, on 6.2 WECT. This is TV geared toward a specific race.
I would much rather see Antenna TV come on the air.

Thanks!

Try an amplified splitter where your coax enters the home and then plug the output cable into your tuner. Also make sure the antenna is turned toward Delco, which is around 5 degrees left of Winnabow from Oak Island. PBS and CBS come from Delco. Try to peak the signal of channel 39. If you already did that, you may need to raise the antenna a few more feet. If you try all this, the final step would be a larger UHF antenna like an 8 bay or a long nosed yagi.
Kaishio 01-02-12, 01:31 PM Hey, thanks for the reply. On Saturday I did raise the antenna a few more feet and improved its direction and can now receive WILM. Actually, I can even receive WCSC from Charleston!

I can get WTAT, FOX, WMMP, MyNetwork, and WCBD NBC out of Charleston up here quite regular during the warmer months when tropospheric ducting gets started. WCSC won't come in because of WYDO though.
Glad you got WILM to come in. I might see it twice a year up here in Jacksonville.

Community Newspaper Selling 4 Stations
By Harry A. Jessell
TVNewsCheck, January 3, 2011 11:55 AM EST
Community Newspaper Holdings is selling its four network affiliates to Thomas Henson for $24 million and the assumption of $50 million in long-term debt, according to an FCC filing seeking approval of the deal.
The stations (and their affiliations): WXTX Columbus, Ga. (Fox); WSFX Wilmington, N.C. (Fox); WUPV Richmond, Va. (CW) and WFXG Augusta-Aiken, S.C. (Fox).
Three of the stations are involved in duopoly arrangements with the Raycom Media stations in their markets — WXTX Columbus with ABC affiliate WTVM, WSFX Wilmington with NBC affiliate WECT and WUPV Richmond with NBC affiliate WWBT.
In each case, Raycom produces the news for the co-located Community station, although it has its own general manager.
Henson is buying the stations through a company called Southeastern Media Acquisitions. Through another company, American Spirit Media, he owns KYOU Ottumwa, Iowa-Kirksville, Mo.
Community, a publisher of newspapers in 23 states, now holds the licenses of the four stations through a subsidiary, Southeastern Media Holdings.
Community and Raycom Media have more in common than the management of the TV stations. They are both principally owned by the pension funds of the state of Alabama.
Also, Community, now based in Birmingham, Ala., has announced plans to move late this year or early next to Montgomery, Ala., where Raycom in headquartered.

I watched the Super Bowl on WECT, and I thought overall, the picture quality was outstanding. Also the Dolby Digital sound was spot-on, except the bass out of the sub could have been a little hotter, but I don't know if it is out of TV 6 or coming from NBC? I saw comments on the technical discussion of the programming section where some commented too much bass on their NBC channel, and others not enough, so it seemed it varied. Thoughts?

I'm jealous:rolleyes: WITN lack of DD audio didn't help me NOR did the 140W/CH out of my Onkyo when I turned the volume up during Maddona's half time show. I gave-up and listened to it five CH Stereo. I am definitely fighting a losing battle, go figure...
The Super Bowl was last night?
;)
Caught parts of it, and the picture did look quite nice...
Watching Rod Ellis & Jon Evans, and notice a lip-sync lag on WECT's news.

Rich in ILM 03-02-12, 02:31 AM and hell has frozen over in the PORT CITY!
I moved here in 2005 and it has been promised since then.
jamieh1 03-02-12, 06:38 AM Its finally on the list posted on Directv.com also is already up on the satellite in test mode. Generally when its up in test mode its goes live within a couple of weeks. Its been up now for over a week. HD locals usually go live on Wednesdays.
NicksHitachi 03-02-12, 07:59 AM O.T. guys but good info which may be helpful to us all.
There is a local southeastern NC HT group which already has several members. I live in Holly Ridge and Work in Wilmington. I wanted to send invites to everyone on here but this is the easiest method to get the word out. If your interested in meets, bartering gear, technical assistance, or other good neighbor stuff post up over in the South Eastern North Carolina Home Theater Group (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1367486&page=5) and I'll add your info to the OP. My goal is a network of locals who share the hobby/interest and the merits theirin.
Cheers,
Nicholas
Being in Holly Ridge, but working in Wilmington, I guess you watch more Wilmington TV than Greenville/New Bern. :)

Trip in VA 03-08-12, 08:46 PM On Tuesday I visited Wilmington and finally got updated TSReader data on WILM and WSFX, nothing too interesting on those signals. I also caught W51CW on the air.

Looks like some testing of Mobile DTV technologies.

***Based on the picture and indications it looks as if they got CW in HD on board from 22, The picture is scaled down like non HD programming during the day on the OTAs **** I hope i am right on this one! Fitting that I started this thread and now I have updated the channels for you. Its been a very long road for the port city and HD local directv channels. I have flyers sent from directv from 2007 or so. Funny stuff. So many hurdles. Thanks for the heads up jamieh1
I guess I won't get them up here on Directv. I don't see them in my guide... I don't need them anyway, since I get everything strong enough with an antenna. I also now have 3 rooms wired for OTA, and get all the channels except WILM. I only have one room on a pre-amp, and that run has a 3 way splitter behind the TV for stereo and scanner. Outside where the main line comes in the crawlspace a power passive splitter on the outlet above and the other two port outlets non-powered.
I would like to get the CW HD. We don't get that here, just WNCT 4:3 CW+
nc88keyz 03-22-12, 06:04 PM this just goes to show you why it took so freakin long for hd local in local directv feeds.
Cause noone cares about HD in ILM. We just went live yesterday and there is uno reply over here at avs. I guess I cant blame them for waiting so long.
CW was in full HD last night, a little soft but HD nonetheless
#1 reason HD locals over directv are great!!!.
Online DVR Scheduling via android, iphone, pc apps.
The OTA channels were never recognized in the app.
jamieh1 03-23-12, 07:10 PM So how does the HD locals look on Directv? When we got our HD locals in the Greenville Washington New Bern market I was amazed at the picture quality.
nc88keyz 03-23-12, 09:19 PM I am watching on a 73" DLP and 42" Plasma, The (A3) over Sat HD locals are not quite as sharp, but im sure it wont be an issue with the wind starts to blow in the port city. My antenna is I guess about 9 years old now and I think it needs to be adjusted but I dont get up on a ladder so easy these days. So I am pleased to have HDLIL over DirecTV and more important to me apps scheduling for locals networks over android / ios etc.
Did the TV stations announce anything about the addition of their HD feeds on Directv during their newscasts? A lot of people will jump and run from Warner now I feel. Warner needs to be brought to their knees for their outrageous pricing.
nc88keyz 03-24-12, 07:25 PM I have not seen anything. As you can tell those in the forum....really arent that interested in posting their opinions and thoughts. We are a select few i suppose.
jamieh1 03-24-12, 09:35 PM Back in Jan 09 when we got our HD locals, the stations here didnt mention they were in HD either. I just read over on DBS Talk .com where someone just discovered they had HD locals. Said they were doing some channel edits and noticed in the favs list. Once our HD locals were launched Directv stopped installing 18 inch dishes and standard def recievers in this market. Everything installed now is HD equipment. H20/HR20 up. and slimline HD dishes.
This market dropped its SD channels in December, we are now a MPEG4 only local market. This is nice because we get free HD equipment.
We get the following channels
7 WITN NBC HD
9 WNCT CBS HD
12 WCTI ABC HD
14 WYDO FOX HD
15 WNCTDT2 CW SD
25 UNC PBS HD
25.2 UNC EX
394 WDCW CW SD Washington DC (they never shut off the national CW feed when we got local CW)
nc88keyz 03-24-12, 09:38 PM im assuming you meant 2009 not 99. correct?
WSFX still cannot paste an EAS map in HD?????? WYDO HD has the warning for Pender going and are able to do HD, so switch over to WYDO if you can.

They may not have the EAS encoder that will interface with the splicer yet. The FCC has pushed the date when stations need to have (it is a mandate that HLS started back in 2008 to revamping the EAS system by adding the IPAWS-CAP format to the EAS format) that to later this year.

I only stumbled upon them last week. We moved here in October and had TWC. Aside from satellite, TWC was the only game in town. After a few weeks we hated the service and the cost. We had no signed contract with them so we termed the service a few weeks ago and called DIRECTV even though we knew locals in HD were not being offered. In our opinion we were so unimpressed with TWC that we were willing to live without HD locals.
When the installers showed up (and did a great job by the way) I asked about HD locals and one of them said "it should be any day now". I figured he was just trying to give me some hope. So when the HD locals appeared last week we were pretty impressed.
I was surprised that none of the locals nade any on air references nor did we receive any notification from DIRECTV that HD locals were up and running.
In the last few days I've seen a number of DIRECTV vans coming through the neighborhood. I'm sure our neighbors are switching because of this news.
brice52 03-29-12, 11:20 AM I had a very bad experience with Directv from late 2008 to late 2010. I went back to Dish Network at that time. I have a vip722k with an OTA module inserted into the receiver. I receive channels 3, 6, 26 and 39 with perfect reception. Wilm 10 is problematic at times. Under the conditions I can not raise the antenna the 5ft needed.
I contacted Dish Network about the Wilmington locals in HD.
They responded that they had them and that I would need a new dish. My previous Satellite reception was from 110, 119 and 129. My new dish is pointed to the Eastern Arc of 61.5, 72.7 and 77. The HD locals come from 61.5. I do not notice any difference in the video OTA and Locals HD via satellite. The audio sound level is slightly louder over satellite.
My pre-amp power supply died, I had replaced the outdoor part already, but the inside part must have died, because I lost 6, 26 and 39. Even the New Bern stations were breaking up, So I went to the shack and bought their pre-amp that has two outputs, hooked it up this evening, and now am able to watch WLFL and WRDC real easy from Raleigh on all my sets! This control lets you adjust the gain control too. I guess I should have replaced both parts of the channel master amp to start with... It was 12 yrs old, so no complaints really.
Retspin 03-29-12, 07:21 PM Wow, maybe you'll have some luck with WRAL.
I'm getting WRAL right now. I have to aim the Winegard UHF much further west (towards Fayetteville) than I do for the 22 and 28 for some reason?

Just a couple of blips, but before I had problems with the amp, I would often receive it in the mornings. I agree about WYDO. I guess to get any kind of reception like 22 and 28 give me, I would need a trap to block 47 out. Seems like too much trouble...

On another note, "Jacksonville woman to be on Jeopardy".

DAILY NEWS STAFF
A Jacksonville woman is set to compete tonight on Jeopardy.
Ruth Robbins, 33, a military wife and stay-at-home mother of four children, graduated from the University of Maryland with a bachelor’s degree in history.
She said she has been trying to get unto the game show for eight years.
“It was the most fun I ever had,” she said, adding that with her husband deployed last year when the episode was taped, her friends really pitched in to help her achieve her dream.
She said it was amazing to see how television works from the inside.
“They film a whole week of shows in one day, and everything goes so fast,” she said. “The crew are so good at what they do and with working with people, the contestants, who don’t know anything about how TV works.”
Robbins, originally from Texas, is also the media coordinator for Goodwill Globetrotting, a nonprofit organization that helps travelers make contributions to charities in countries they visit. During her free time, she enjoys cross stitching.
Jeopardy airs on WITN-TV and WECT-TV at 7:30 p.m.
If anyone's out there, are you just getting left and right channel audio on WECT even though the Dolby lights are on because that's what I'm hearing?

I just switched over to Smash on NBC and I seem to be getting center and sides on TW cable. The Dolby Digital indicator is on.

Thanks Rich. Once Smash came on, all the channels started working, so it must be The Voice. The audio was terribly flat during that show also.
What happened to the WWAY transmitter? Did it overheat? :D
