HD Rookie 12-03-09, 09:09 AM TIVO softare baby-night and day on this box!,yes it is available.
Boston Craig, you are posting in a Chicago Comcast thread. Comcast Tivo is not available here.
Does it have any less features than the huge Motorola (with the pre-2002 logo even!) boxes that are still around? I have one and it's big, would be nice to have something this physically small. However, from the picture it looks like it only has coax out, are there any RCA connections? Need that for my setup (TiVo and sound out to send music to the basement).

b_scott 12-04-09, 05:05 PM is anyone else in the Chicago city (1,4,5) having issues with HDTV reception on channels 225+
225 is awful, and all channels higher than that still have some blocks constantly. Here's a phone pic of my 225:

Nothing changed in my place, and it's on both of my HDTV's.
retromzc 12-04-09, 07:18 PM Not seeing anything like that here. Everything is the same as usual.
djdanska 12-04-09, 07:53 PM No cable/internet here in glen ellyn. When i called up, the message said outage. Also said go to comcast.com for live chat. LOL. First thought in my head was, if i had internet, i wouldn't have any reason to chat with them. Sadly, i ended up going to live chat with my tmo touch pro2 (Love the 3g!) and they said partial note outage. 11:22pm is estimated time of repair. (Not 11:15 or 11:25. 11:22??)
dattier 12-04-09, 11:31 PM is anyone else in the Chicago city (1,4,5) having issues with HDTV reception on channels 225+FWIW, things look OK in Area 2.
Irishndude4 12-06-09, 01:34 PM Is anyone else not getting the audio feed for the NFL RedZone HD channel today? The picture is coming in perfect, but there is no audio. I'm in the city on Comcast. Anyone?
b_scott 12-06-09, 02:15 PM thanks. One of my Tivo's has about 21 million uncorrected errors in the last day. The other Tivo was also having the same breakup issues but now seems to have quieted down. Comcast rolled a truck for me, and I hope it's on their end since I can't see how it could be my fault - and I don't want to pay $50 or whatever it is.
Paul Brazis 12-07-09, 09:34 AM I've got a TV with QAM tuner and now a DTA in preparation for losing all the analog channels. I've wanted to keep sending the local HD signals to the TV, so this weekend tried a simple split, where the incoming cable is split before arriving to the DTA, then creating a combined signal with a second splitter, with one input from the DTA and a second directly from the first splitter. Set the DTA for Channel 4 since Comcast has nothing (at least programming) on that channel. Tried this out, digital signal is great. Analog signal is pretty good, except for an intermittent (maybe every second or two) interference, looking like horizontal white noise across the screen.
I'm assuming a notch filter is in order here to kill the incoming interference on Channel 4. Question is if anyone knows what frequency band this is (in MHz), bandwidh, and for personal interest what is Comcast using Channel 4 analog for, and/or what will be on that after the digital conversion is complete. I'm in the Elgin-St. Charles area and prtty sure I'm off the Carpentersville feed.
Hoping Comcast keeps the band for analog 4 open so we can send internal signals on it, but guessing that isn't going to happen.

Ch 4 is 66-72mhz, and for now yes, Ch 4 is blank on the Carpentersville system, which now serves much but not all of Elgin. If your south or east of Elgin, you might be fed from West Chgo or Bartlett.
Narrow downn your location, as "Elgin-St. Charles" are on different systems. Post me your FCC ID off page 2 lower right of your Comcast monthly statement, and I can tell you for sure what your headend is.

Your problem probably isn't going to be solved with a simple notch filter. (at least not to the point of having your analog ch 4 look totally "clean") You have to understand that the mods in any settop (be it a converter, VCR, etc.) were never meant to be combined with adjacent channels - I assume you DO have an analog ch 3 on your system. These mods have "spurs" that get into adjacent channels, which can mess up their own channel. The only way to fix this, is to have professional (headend) grade mods &/or filters - which are obviously pricey for the home.

Looked at my bill but it wasn't there (we only keep the first page). But I'm 98% certain it's out of Carpentersville, as that's what most mailings have said in the past (unless it changed in the last month or two). I'm in South Elgin, west part, so technically south and west of Elgin proper.
Any idea what the plans for analog 4 is going to be?

I wonder if that's the low power digital channel 4 from Hancock trying to bleed in?

Thank you for the feedback. Yes, there is analog 3 coming in (some Comcast labeled station that I never watch). If the DTA is on Channel 3 the picture is unwatchable as you would expect. When you say "spurs", do you mean the signal from channel 3 (and perhaps 5) is spilling into channel 4? If so, a properly designed notch filter should take care of the problem, probably something that also knocks out parts of channels 3 and 5 (wouldn't need it anyway since the TV has a DTA for the basic cable stations and therefore doesn't need the analog feed anymore). If the notch filters on the market won't do the job that's good to know, I can build my own (I am an EE and have some filter design background, but would be a lot easier simply pruchasing a filter). I don't see how if the filter is rather sharp and highly attenuating in the vicinity of channel 4 why it wouldn't kill the noise coming through. The question here is whether after the digital conversion if Comcast has plans to put some digital content (at least that which the DTA can decode or clearQAM) in the analog band, or of this is going to Internet or other services.

The interference does look digital in nature. It is intermittent (every second or so) horizontal white noise that does look blocky at times. What is the digital 4 from the Hancock? Is this an OTA digital signal you are referring to?

If your in S Elgin, then you are now on C'ville, since they shut down the Elgin headend on Bypass 20 w of Elgin Lanes.
No one knows when CC adds or deletes carriers, and with the digital migration underway, any remaining basic analog channel will be in demand, so I wouldn't count on it staying blank by April. Doubtful they won't waste any analog ch2 thru 23 or ch2 thru 28 by leaving them blank, 4 is the only blank one right now.

I would have to agree, 6 MHz bandwidth down in the 60-70MHz band is valuable real estate.
Thinking I'm going to pursue a custom filter to wipe out anything coming in on ch4 through the bypass I built. Hopefully I can get to it soon. I really would prefer this option over a video input switch, which would be a huge pain.

Phil Tomaskovic 12-09-09, 11:00 PM OK, the game sucked but did anyone get the Bulls game on the CSN+ HD channel 285?
The SD broadcast was on CLTV. My comcast dvr guide even said the game was on 285, but all they showed were those stupid info clips. I emailed to complain and of course they had no idea what I was talking about; tried to say I didn't have the right plan.
kevin j 12-09-09, 11:10 PM The Bulls game wasn't on 285 here either.
Just got a DCX 3400 with the 320g HD. I am experiencing microblocking and pixelizing periodic picture break ups when watching an HD program that I recorded on the DVR. I have noticed it on 3 different programs. Anyone know why or how I may try and fix this? I have not noticed this when watching anything live.

I had all sorts of problems like losing guide information, reboots until I bought a signal booster. Do you have a splitter between the dvr and cable feed? Note I have an older motorola box (2005), not sure what model.

I have a drop amp right at the point the feed enters my house. My signal strength shows "good" on the diagonstics screen of the DCX. In fact, both tuners show "good" and no corrected errors.
andyross63 12-10-09, 04:57 PM What channel were the programs on? I had some issues with WLS-HD last night. I put the second tuner on the SD, and noticed that when the HD pixelated, the SD would have a static-like streak and/or audio pop. Unusual for a digital signal, so I assume it was encoded that way. No pixelation or audio dropout that a true noise spike would cause. I'm assuming the issue was something upstream.

WLS-HD (Modern Family and The Middle) and FOX-HD (Glee)
I have basic and have lost my HSI and the digital sub-channels, 2.1, 5.1.7.1, 9.1 etc. This happened a couple nights ago during the storm, called Comcast last night and they say there are no outages in my area. I am getting 2, 5, 7, 9, and other SD basic package channels. Comcast says my modem is off-line. I cannot reboot it so I am thinking I need a new cable modem any opinions? I asked Comcast if my two issues are related and they don't think so infact they said I should not be able to receive those channels!

anyone work for Comcast who can answer this intelligently?
radioinsomnia 12-11-09, 11:23 AM anyone work for Comcast who can answer this intelligently?
I don't work for Comcast, but it sounds to me like you may have lost the higher frequencies on your line. You probably need a tech to come take a look. Is your line buried, or running overhead from a pole?
Last fall/winter, I lost many of my HD locals every time it rained or snowed. Putting better connectors on the drop and fixing the ground block solved the problem.

Thanks for replying the service is all underground but I also suspect this possibility. Good excuse to upgrade my modem I guess to make sure that isn't it.
Update: Just chatted with Comcast and got them to agree to check the signal coming in to my house, she is suppossed to email me the results (not holding my breath). I said I want to buy a new modem on the way home from work if needed, if this coordination happens I will be impressed.
Steve_V 12-11-09, 02:21 PM Anytime the temperature dips below 10 degrees I lose all digital channels plus internet. This also happened last winter. I have lost count on the number of times I have called Comcast. They tell me they will send a tech out in a few days and by the time he gets here it has warmed up and everything checks out ok. One CSR even told me that this is to be expected, and that I should just be patient. For almost $200 per month I expect service no matter what the temperature is.
andyross63 12-11-09, 04:53 PM WLS-HD (Modern Family and The Middle) and FOX-HD (Glee)
If it was that night of the huge temp drop and wind, it could have been Comcast or the stations having problems. By me, WLS and WFLD are on different frequencies, but they could be the same on your system.

It was the snowy windy turning much colder Wednesday night. Later that evening into early Thursday morning, I recorded the Robin Williams stand up special on HBO. I watch it last night on the DVR and all was good :D.
Maybe the crappy weather on Weds night prime time was the problem after all. Got my fingers crossed because I went thru hell and high water to get a brand new DCX 3400 with the 320GB HD. These boxes are near impossible to get in the Chicagoland area right now
Well it was not my modem, got home rebooted my modem and now all is fine. The QAMs are back too they must have found a bad connection.

Sounds like a variety of things may have been hurting you. Hard to pinpoint with freezing ass temps. Does the cable to your TV get supplied down stream of your modem, or is it like mine? Mine is split before my modem. Most of my TVs get their cable directly from the outside feed. Only a couple tvs on the second floor get their feed from the signal after it has passed through the modem. If your tv signal is coming through the modem, maybe the modem reboot did the trick. I have to reboot my modem about once a month when I loose HSI. Otherwise it certainly could have been the temperature. It did warm up nicely to like 25 degrees this afternoon <sarcasm> which may have helped your signal fix itself.
HD Rookie 12-12-09, 01:35 AM Any of you guys still grandfathered into the old "basic/locals only" package? If so, have you notice anything different the last week or two? I've been on the locals only package with hd dvr for several years. I'm afraid to change anything because I'll lose my kill rate (under 20/month). My analog cable feed always gets 2-99, but my dvr only gets 2-34 plus the HD locals. I noticed last week that my dvr started receiving 2-99? Anybody know of any changes? I'm hoping this freebee lasts until comcast converts to all digital, which will force me to upgrade to the digital tier.

Can you please tell us how ARE you passing the signal through the modem, to other TV's??? You must have a VERY special modem, considering they normally ONLY have a coax in, so it would normally be physically impossible to do this.
I've never heard of anyone's "TV signal" going thru a cable modem, either - must be a very special setup you have there indeed...

I split my signal then one leg goes to my modem the other leg goes to a booster amp then to a 6-way splitter then to my tv's. I had no HSI or QAM channels. I suspected that the high frequency portion of my signal was missing as another person here also suggested. It turns out that must have been true. I asked Comcast to come out and check the signal outside my house which I assume they did and when I got home it worked. First time I called with this issue Comcast suggested that I may need a new modem and that they knew nothing about QAM chaneels and that I should not even be getting them because I do not have a STB.

Well (I assume) you already know you're NOT supposed to be getting those analog channels - obviously, someone didn't trap your drop to knock off those extra channels. And as such as your account would be coded, your DVR is prog accordingly as you NOT authorized for those as well. The DVR, however, pulls those channels from a digital stream & not the analog signals & those are encrypted as such.
However, you're area must be going through the "World of More", where they are deploying DTA's for all expanded basic subs. CC has normally been turning off the encryption on those same expanded basic digital streams, so that is why your DVR is now allowing you to see them.
Unfortunately, as you already said, this will only last until they complete going all digital on the expanded basics. CC got permission to use encryption on their DTA's, so they'll be re-encrypting those streams again & you will loose them; probably after they shut down all the analog feeds of those channels, so you will end up loosing BOTH versions of expanded basics.

My service is also underground & I had a lot of pixelation on the upper QAM freqs a few months ago. Comcast sent out a line tech who balanced the line, whatever that entails, and it fixed the problem. I was not home at the time so could not ask the tech who did the actual work, but he left a door hanger note stating he was out.

andyross63 12-17-09, 05:04 PM Here in Schaumburg, I noticed something is using RF channels 91 and 92. I was using 91 for my modulator, and it was suddenly snowy. My TV tries to read something digital for several seconds, then goes to analog. On a 'dead' channel, it usually only tries digital for about 1 second. The way it's acting is a bit like it does on the modem downstream channels. I wonder if they added 2 more? Anybody's modem using 627MHz or 633MHz? The normal frequencies are 693/699/705/711 (RF 107-119).
I was forced to do a rescan in order to get my TV to recognize formerly analog channels as digital, and found a few more ClearQAM:
164/59-2: ShopNBC
227/131-36: Hallmark Movie HD
475/27-7: Gospel Music Channel
The Guide on the cable box also lists a new OnDemand pseudo-channel: 892, Jobs by Monster

I'm also in Schaumburg and have been happily enjoying an HDTV box to my HDTV monitor for a year. I just picked up a flat panel LCD with built in QAM. Plugged it into the wall with no box and I get HD channels (e.g. 2.1, 5.1, etc) but other than the broadcast channels, I have no idea where my favorite channels are. I think you are saying my 59.2 is ShopNBC.
Do we have a thread or has someone compiled a list of what is where using the QAM channels for the Chicago/Schaumburg area?
Thanks!

It doesn't have the latest changes, but does list the ClearQAM as of a few days ago.
markc72 12-23-09, 04:30 PM I have had it with Comcrap now. Was getting HD from my wall to my HDTV and out of nowhere, it was gone the other day. I know it has to do with the whole digital conversion, but now I'm forced to have to buy a another HD box for another $7 or $8. They say I can have the free digital converter box for free, but I DON'T GET HD ON A HD SET!!!! Hasn't Comcrap already soaked us for enough money?? UVERSE, if it ever get's here in Plainfield, at least has one box free and it's a DVR. I am dropping Comcrap so fast when UVerse get's here.

I would normally agree with you, but I am getting Digital Preferred, an HD DVR and HBO for $44.99. Plus two free DTA's. uVerse cannot touch that rate, and I didn't even have to fight with them for this rate, just called up at the end of my previous plan and they gave me this new plan which was $25 less than the one I was on. At that rate, I can add a second HD DVR and still be better than uVerse.

They move the clear-QAM channels around occasionally.

But that is the 6 month teaser rate, correct?
markc72 12-24-09, 11:04 AM Yeah, those rates are usually good for 6-12 months. After that they go up exponentially. Went over with a rep and could not get it down from where I'm at currently with Vonage as my phone after the first year with the triple play. You get way more with Uverse than Comcast and that's a fact.

Maybe you do, but I don't. Just to match what I get with Comcast, U-verse will cost me $107 before taxes - and that's TV only. I pay Comcast $96.46 before taxes now.

Maybe if you read my post correctly that I do NOT have it where I am in Plainfield yet. My parents are getting it on January 18th and I was able to price it out using their address. Slightly cheaper with better equipment.

Paul Brazis 12-30-09, 10:13 AM Last night I lost Internet and phone service, called Comcast and told me I wasn't in a local outage area. However, they did mention there was one nearby. Anyway, after them insisting on me scheduling a tech for this afternoon, and trying to sell me some sort of insurance plan, it came back. I'm off the Carpentersville feed. Anyone have any idea on what happened? Just curious. The lights on the modem weren't as they ususally are, but I still haven't found a good reference on what the lights meant.
Kind of relieved it is resolved since I was not looking forward to arguing with the tech that there is nothing wrong with my wiring in the house (this happens evey time, they see the patch panel and preamp and they of course blame that right away).
walkingdogs 12-30-09, 12:44 PM I am moving to the Oak Park area this week and sadly have to convert myself over to Comcast due to no satellites being allowed on the building and AT&T as usual not having their act together, so no U-verse is available.
I was wondering if anyone on this thread has any idea of when the digital conversion is supposed to take place in the Oak Park area and when I can expect to get the HD expansion that so many of you have been lucky enough to get. Any answers I can get to this mystery would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

It must have been very local to you, as I didn't loose HSI/CDV/TV and I am right near the Algonquin headend that feeds Cville, E & W Dundee. I was up till 2:30am and never a blip. What side of the river are you on?

It looks like the transistion is working it's way into the inner suburbs from the far out suburbs, so I was thinking the Elmhurst/Oak Park system is for around July or August or so. The Elmhurst/Oak Park headend is the largest most spreadout system of all the suburbs covering about 75-80 suburbs.
Usually the larger the area being converted, the longer time frame they are giving to get everyone their DTA's and prepare, from the first letters sent out till actual cutover.

you may want to do a little research before you give up. It's federal law that you be able to put a satellite dish in certain locations of your unit, even if it's an apartment. Let me see if I can dig up the info. I think I found it at dish-network's site
I tried comcast HD and their PQ sucked compared to dish, and that was with the new 3400 dvr

Believe me I exhausted all my options in finding a way to keep my DirecTV, but most vintage apartments in Oak Park do not allow dishes on any of the roofs or facades. Also none of the ones we looked at had balconies that I could mount it to. Thanks for the research on my behalf though. I had read about this law and knew what I had to look for but ended up picking location over amenities. Oh well at least the Tivo HD helps alleviate the terrible user interface Comcast pushes onto their customers.

Ya, the GUI is from the 80's. it's about to get even further behind with the new dish 922 DVR with a 1 TB hard drive and built in sling. It has full HD GUI with station logos and much more.

Surprised to hear that you suffered poor PQ. Here in Elgin, Comcast HD is generally excellent. Local stations are indistinguishable from the OTA antenna feed.
This week I did an A-B comparison of Ch7 vs. ESPN on the Bears game and ditto.. no difference. Movies are excellent, and even the On Demand is very good. Not quite up to Blu-ray (Dark Knight A-B for example), but still very good. Dish is also very good, but when I do A-B comparisons at my Son's house, I have to give a very slight edge to OTA via antenna. In most areas (perhaps all?) Comcast does not compress the OTA channels. Having said that, the difference is not really significant when enjoying the show.
The HSI is excellent. I currenty get about 15Mbs down and 3-4mbps ups.
Paying for 12/2.
If I have one issue with Comcast, it is cost. My teaser rate expired, and my rate went up about $60 per month. Granted I have 7 TVs in the house, 3 HD DVRs, and 1 HD box w/o DVR. In the spring when they lose the analog expanded basics, I will need 2 more HD boxes, to keep watching expanded basic without losing HD. Hopefully I can work a deal then.

West of the river. They didn't give many details, just said there was an outage in the area but I wasn't in it, but then later suggested my issues may have been linked to it (after going through the checklist to see whether my model was plugged in, etc.).
Local ABC-7 news via Comcast is difficult to watch. Every segment change, the volume starts off high then lowers notches. This is annoying as its startling when this occurs.
Is anyone else noticing this?

Phil Tomaskovic 01-04-10, 02:51 PM I just got a second Tivo HD and called Comcast for another cable card. thezodad 01-04-10, 02:56 PM My most recent bill saw a rate hike to $5.95 per card (I have 2 M-Cards and one converter box for VOD). Prior to that I was paying $2.95 per card.

I'm in Naperville, and yes, I get that same charge. I got my TiVo HD back when Comcast did not have M-Cards, so I have two S-Cards in there, plus a third in my TV. Here's my setup and billing:
- First card in TiVo HD: free
- Second card in TiVo HD: $1.50 (line item on bill is "T3ddvrcards $1.50")
- Third card in Sony TV: $5.99 (additional digital outlet, coded as "Digital Access Fee")
The problem is that the second TiVo is considered an additional outlet, so that $5.99/month fee is actually an additional outlet fee, not a CableCARD fee. However, the M-Card that's in your first TiVo should be free, not $1.50. Each outlet is supposed to get one CableCARD included in the outlet fee, and you get one outlet included with whatever digital package you have.

The "technician" only had one card, so they have to come back on Saturday. Installation and initialization with my Sony DHG HDD-500 was a breeze.

How much will I be charged to use a CableCARD?
There is no charge for the first CableCARD that you use as it is already included in the primary outlet fee. If you have a multi-card device on the same outlet (i.e. TiVo Series 3 or two Digital Cable Tuners connected to the same personal computer), you will be charged an additional regulated fee of up to $2.05 for the second CableCARD.
If additional CableCARDs are needed for other devices that are installed on additional outlets, you will not be charged for the first CableCARD installed on this outlet as the cost is included in the additional outlet fee. In addition to the cost of the digital cable service, you will be charged a regulated fee of up to $2.05 for the second CableCARD on the additional outlet.
**Note: The same pricing schedule will be applicable to additional outlets with multi-CableCARD devices, e.g. no charge for first CableCARD on the third outlet and an additional regulated fee of up to $2.05 for the second CableCARD in addition to the digital service charge.
Disclaimer: Regulated Prices quoted above may not apply in all markets. Please call 1-800-COMCAST to learn more about Regulated Prices for your area.
I hope this helps.

The big sticking point is getting someone at Comcast to understand whether two devices are on the same outlet. Customers see outlets as physical things, but Comcast sees them as equipment. My Sony CableCARD TV and my TiVo HD are on the same physical outlet with a splitter, but I have gone around in circles with Comcast getting them to understand that. The answer has always been the same, whether it's a front-line rep or someone who actually knows something: outlet = equipment. Additional digital equipment = additional digital outlet = $5.99.
They wore me out. I had enough troubles just getting them to properly pair cards for my TiVo HD, so I'm reluctant to mess with it any further.

The DVR is going back after the 2nd Tivo is setup.
Hi everyone.
I have several tv's with qam tuners, as well as a pc tuner card with qam capabilities. The unencrypted HD feeds of WCIU and WPWR, which at times have been on 26.1 and 50.1 or 85.2 and 85.1 are now nowhere to be found on any of my tvs. Anyone have a similar, non-cable box setup and having the same problems. So you have rescanned all the tuners and they still don't show up? If Comcast moves the physical QAM's around, the PSIP data will stay the same on local stations and the virtual channel would stay the same.
radioinsomnia 01-06-10, 05:33 PM I also currently have a Comcast HD DVR, so I wonder if that's why I'm paying for the card?
That's probably the reason. Their system likely sees the DVR as your first digital outlet.

Looks like Comcast is rollling out a new guide. Not sure when we'll get it here in Chicagoland.

Although it doesn't look as good as the last guide update Comcast promised:
http://hd.engadget.com/2008/01/10/hands-on-with-the-latest-tv-guide-software-comcast-dvr/
This one still does look much better than the current guide. Anybody have an idea when we should start seeing these changes?

Did a Live Chat with Comcast rep. said it should be early next month. We'll see.

which update? Comedy Central HD? :)
andyross63 01-20-10, 05:13 PM which update? Comedy Central HD? :)
The A28 update will be coming around 1/27. I'm not certain if that will be the full software update, or just the channel ID update. In other areas, they do that first, then the software update a few days later. The channel ID update fixes some issues on it's own, but requires users to redo scheduled recordings, reminders and favorites lists.
http://www.comcast.com/guide
For reference, the channel ID is the hidden number tied to the what you see in the guide. The actual guide data uses the ID numbers, not the name you see. In the IGuide diagnostics, it's the 'N' number.
b_scott 01-20-10, 05:14 PM ah, I have TivoHD, I don't use Comcast software

Andy, Algonquin has the same date as Schaumburg
So am I understanding this right, we can only have 25 favorites now? That sucks.
Whoa, does it say that? I haven't read it yet (will wait until closer to the date), but 25 is way too few.
We use the Favorites list as the "channels we actually watch" list. We never use the regular guide that lists everything, because we'd rather not see a list clutterred up with shopping channels, foreign language, pay-per-views, and premium channels we don't get. I haven't counted them, but I'd guess our Favorites list is well over 100, so this would indeed suck, because it means we'd have to go back to scrolling through the whole guide, with entire entire pages that we just skip through.
andyross63 01-21-10, 05:18 PM So am I understanding this right, we can only have 25 favorites now? That sucks.
Where did you read about this? Or does it refer to the number of favorites LISTS, and not the number of channels in a list?

No messages here in the south burbs about the update. Was your area converted to all digital yet?

You read it correctly. I saw it this morning. It said "up to 25 channels" effective 1/27/2010.
videoguy60467 01-22-10, 10:17 AM I think the message said "up to 25 channels" would be impacted by the change. The list is longer when you go to Comcast.com/guide, but the way I interpret the message is that up to 25 channels my be impacted regarding
>Parental Control Locks by Channel
>Scheduled DVR Recordings
>Program Reminders
>Favorite Lists
i.e. up to 25 of your Favorites my drop out of your list, and Scheduled DVR recordings on up to 25 Channels may need to be re-scheduled.. etc.

Here is the exact text...
On 1/27/10 an update will require you to reset your settings for Parental Control by channel, DVR recordings and Favorites on up to 25 channels. See channels impacted at www.comcast.com/guide
Per this comcast link, there are 56 channels being impacted.
radioinsomnia 01-22-10, 11:44 AM I received a Comcast postcard in Naperville a couple days ago. It said the digital network transition was complete, but also said that channels other than 2-28 & 95 would not be available without digital equipment after February 16. (Our two phases of analog cuts occurred at the end of September and October.)
For the first time, it specifically mentioned that digital QAM tuner TVs would only receive Basic after February 16. I am assuming that this is effectively the QAM encryption notice, and that encryption will be added in my area on that day.

This makes more sense. I think they are renaming channels or something, which will cause them to lose their settings on your box.
The wording was a little unclear though.
Something weird happened to my over the weekend.
I have one of the new DCX3400 boxes and had some recording problems.
Friday night, I set it to record Spartacus on Starz HD from 9-10pm. I went watch it Saturday morning and the DVR said it was 60 minutes. I started watching it and the progress bar said it was 60 minutes. However, at minute 17 the "delete recording" prompt came up and the progress bar showed the show length was only 17 minutes. I tried it a couple more times and the same thing happened. I deleted the recording and then just watched it on demand.
Saturday afternoon I recorded Legend of the Seeker on WGN-HD and it recorded with no problems.
Sunday evening I recorded Band of Brothers on HBO HD from 6:45 to 8pm. I went to watch it last night and pretty much the same thing happened with it that happened with my Spartacus recording. The DVD said it was 1:15 and the progress bar also said it was 1:15 but at 17 minutes the "delete recording" prompt came up and the progress bar said the show was only 17 minutes long.
I figured the Spartacus recording was just some sort of glitch but then after seeing the Band of Brothers ended up being 17 minutes as well, I started wondering if this was a problem.
Anyone else ever see anything like this?

There is a guy in MA with a DCX3400 that has been having erratic recording issues like you for the past 2 1/2 weeks mostly on StarzHD. He posted on the Comcast help & support forum. It is being looked at by the Comcast exective support. He thought it was hanging up when he was watching OnDemand at the same time. Also he said the buffer wasn't filling up while he is on StarzHD, and couldn't back up watching it live.
I'm sure there is a bug list going on with these newer DCX3400 that they need to work through.

I also currently have a Comcast HD DVR, so I wonder if that's why I'm paying for the card? We'll see what happens... Also I have a STB for the bedroom which I thought I was paying for and asked if it would be free after I return the DVR, but the billing doesn't show it... The DVR is going back after the 2nd Tivo is setup.
I received my bill, and they are charging me the following for an SD Box, an HD Box, and two cable cards:
$1.50 for "T3ddvrcards"
$8.99 for "HDTV Equip Monthly Lse"
$5.99 for "Digital Access Fee"
$5.99 for "Dig Ad Outlet Access Fee" (x2)
I just spent 1.5 hours on the phone with Comcast (1 hour with a supervisor), and I think I made some progress. Initially, he was saying the cable cards cost $5.99 each, not $1.50 like I was told. I kept insisting, and as he looked closer, he became confused as to how the billing on my account was set up. He admitted to me that it is not common for customers to request cable cards, so he is not that familiar with the "codes" used for billing.
He ended up removing the $1.50 charge, as it was erroneous. He said with my "Digital Preferred" package, the first cable card (in the HD box in my case) is free. In my case, the HD box is considered the "primary" outlet.
We were still going around in circles on the cable card charges, so I told him what I found on their web site, and asked him to tell me where on their web site it stated that cable cards were $5.99. He found the link I posted above, and was trying to find the correct "code" to put on my account, but it kept disabling the service.
He next tried to give me a $5.00 credit for each "Dig Ad Outlet Access Fee", which would expire after the six-month promotion was over, but that did not work either.
He wound up giving me a six-month internet service promotion, which saves me $22 per month, for six months. He promised to look into this and call me back on Saturday, the 30th. I asked if he had a direct number, and he said they don't have them.
Interesting and confusing at the same time.

radioinsomnia 01-26-10, 08:02 PM Your saga is typical of those with TiVos and other HD equipment on the same account, unfortunately.
I eventually had to talk to a "specialist" in the Tinley Park office just to get my CableCARDs paired and the billing corrected. Is it correct for me to assume that your TiVo is still tuning all channels, even with the T3ddvrcards line item removed?

Funny, after 4 weeks & hours on the phone of dealing with tech support in Mexico, they finally sent my ticket to a guy in Tinley Park to get my M card in my Tivo paired. He called me and fixed it in 30 seconds. Probably the same guy, and the only guy in Chicagoland that can fix it.
I am also leary on getting a 2nd M card for my 2nd HD-Tivo, but need to since the digital transition is the end of April.

So far, it didn't happen. Maybe tonight.
Most of the changes involve the DVR, including using folders to hold multiple copies of a program. There is also a feature where it will 'remind' you about an HD program if you tune to the SD version.
epsilon 01-27-10, 05:35 PM What will happen to the channels "affected by the update" regarding scheduled recordings? Will the timers have to be recreated?
The only problem I ran into so far is HBO-HD. In my favorites and recordings it switched to ch. 550 because of the name change. I'm sure there must be other issues too, but I haven't come across them.
Haven't gotten the software update yet though.
dattier 01-29-10, 01:28 AM MCTV was supposed to start yesterday on channel 249. Usually new channels come in around 8 AM on the promised date or sooner, but this one didn't show up until evening. It wasn't until even later that I got a chance to check for it as a clear QAM channel, but it was there by then. Unfortunately, Comcast still doesn't understand what WJYS's channel number is, and just as they're PSIPping WJYS to 36-1 (like WJYS's physical OTA channel) instead of 62-1, they're putting MCTV on 36-2.

For me SHO-HD on ch. 185 has no name and no guide information (Name is blank and it says To Be Announced in 30 minute blocks). It's been like that since yesterday.

It may be a side effect of the channel ID update that is a pre-requisite of the A28 update. GSN went blank, but later got a name and started filling in yesterday. I see the same Showtime HD thing.

Here in Schaumburg, there appears to be no PSIP yet. It's on 82-24. 82 is the ClearQAM RF of WJYS and others. WJYS PSIP's as 62-1, but one issue is that there is also an encrypted RF 62-1, making it impossible on my TV to tune directly to WJYS. I have to channel up/down from nearby, or go through the master channel add/remove list.
I have similar issues with 56-1. They should just change ALL of them to 2xx-1, like they did with the SD versions of existing HD channels.

I think Dish is offering 5 of the HBO's in HD and 5 of the Cinemax's in HD? But when I look at the guide for Comcast I only see the main HBO and Cinemax channel in HD. Am I missing where the premium HD channels are on Comcast?
HBO HD is 186. where is HBO 2 HD? Or MoMAX HD?
Also, does Comcast offer the Sleuth channel in HD?

UGH!!! New guide seems to have disabled my DVR. I noticed that Lost was on, but no red REC light. Click myDVR on the remote - "No shows to Display" 0% used.
Click Menu - no DVR icon. Season Premiere of Lost, last episode of House, 3 episodes of 24 and Buehrle's Perfect game are gone and I can't record any shows.
Anyone else lose Record/Playback/DVR with this update?
The lousy D-A boxes (none of mine work - not looking forward to mid-March when I lose HD networks and other misc channels) and this botched update signal the end of my Comcast usage. Anyone have any idea if/when UVerse will be available in historic district of Downers Grove? How about Dish/Direct experiences in D.G.?
DJStarion 02-03-10, 11:52 AM I didn't even receive the update.
This list works for the 60068 zip code. Not sure if other parts of Chicago have the same QAM Channels. I left off Home Shopping and Spanish Channels. I also have it in Excel, but I'm not sure how to add the file if people want to print it out in a one page format. I attached a .txt file of the list. Hope this helps people who don't want to rent a box, but watch expanded basic in crystal clear digital format (No HD above 50)

jimb408 02-05-10, 01:12 PM I went to my DVR yesterday and to my surprise it was at 100% full with about 20 different recordings of USA-HD all listed as "Psych" and all at the time as 12m. All were different amounts of time recorded. 120 min, 2 min, 6 min, 240 min etc. WTF? When I checked to see what was actually recorded they were all different shows. So now - I lost all I did have recorded. I'm in Elk Grove - still with the old guide. Did this happen to anybody else? My son does record only new shows of Psych so I'm stumped.

That stinks. You said you have the old guide, but USA-HD was one of the channels whose series recordings was suposed to be affected by the guide update. Wonder if this could be a side-effect???
andyross63 02-05-10, 05:15 PM Is it a series recording? If so, did you also set it as a manual recording because it looked like it didn't get set as a recording? If so, that can trigger a bug where it never stops recording. The breaks may have been because the box may have sort-of frozen or had issues due to the bug.

andyross63 02-06-10, 08:43 AM I wonder why they can't at least give them a name. 249 could at least be named WJYS2. 599 should be WOCH (MegaTV, 'H'ispanic), although it's just 13-1. The original broadcaster sometimes swaps 13-1 between WOCH and WOCK (Korean), which is now 13-2.

dattier 02-06-10, 05:13 PM Andy: you're expecting the H and the K to make sense and thus confusing WOCK (the Spanish-language station, 13.1, currently carrying MegaTV) with WOCH (the Korean-community station, 13.2, currently carrying Arirang).

metropole 02-06-10, 06:05 PM What channels?
Just some examples: HGTV, history, USA network, ... I will collect a more complete list. All shows when I saw it were newer ones. I don't think I'm mistaken for non-HD content. Which on my display doesn't look all that bad.
andyross63 02-08-10, 04:55 PM I've noticed 2 issues lately:
WCIU and the subchannels no longer display program names, times, or ratings. OTA works, so Comcast does not seem to be passing it on for some reason. 226-1 works, but 26-x do not.
I noticed a channel 1-6, which is CLTV. I'm not certain what frequency it's actually using. The cable box shows CLTV on 513MHz (RF72) and encrypted, so this 1-6 is probably PSIP'd from somewhere else.
b_scott 02-08-10, 05:01 PM so Comcast is XFinity starting 2/15, right?
Any word on when the guide update is now supposed to happen?
DJStarion 02-08-10, 10:43 PM Someone on dslreports said that they asked a tech at Comcast and they said 3/3 now

Check to see if you got the actual A28: MENU/MENU/Setup/Cable Box Setup/Configuration. Does it is say A28 in the version string at the top?
andyross63 02-10-10, 06:05 PM Even though the one TV without a box has a digital tuner and can pick up all the ClearQAM, I decided to get a DTA from Comcast, mostly to play around with for now. I received it today.
A few things I noticed:
I do get CLTV, even though I thought it was moved to Starter and is normally encrypted. The DTA says it's on 573MHz (RF82, probably 82-22 based on the virtual map in the DTA), but the cable box says 513MHz (RF72). I guess that is the channel 1-16 ClearQAM on the TV.
Why does the DTA list 599 as WOCK-TV, but Comcast still hasn't programmed the cable box guide with a name?
On the DTA, 598 (Azteca), the audio pops on and off about once per second. The diagnostics show a good signal, and its very regular 1 sec on, 1/2sec off. It's fine with the cable box.
No 249 (WJYS-2, MCTV), which I think would be expanded as it's broadcast.
Looking through the holes, the main chip is a Broadcom BCM3545.
Currently I own an HDTV with QAM. I have comcast service with no box. My Coax cable goes directly to my Tv.
As of recently the HD channels I used to get have ceased coming through. Two questions is this a permanent change being made and I will no longer get any of these channels.
Second question is do any of you know of a link or have a list they could post on the HD channels that are offered.
I know the local channels for OTA. I wasn't sure if they were the same or not.
Thank you for any responses in advance and sorry if this has been asked before.

Have you done a rescan with the TV? They can sometimes move the RF channels that carry the digital channels, so you need to rescan so your TV can find them. The 7-1 and such that you enter are virtual numbers that the TV knows are actually mapped to something else.
As for ClearQAM HD, it is pretty much just limited to the broadcast channels. Here in Schaumburg, it is everybody except WSNS, WXFT and WYIN.
I went to my DVR yesterday and to my surprise it was at 100% full with about 20 different recordings of USA-HD all listed as "Psych" and all at the time as 12m. Had this exact same thing happen to me last night, and I'm pretty sure it happened once before, but I wasn't positive about which show it was, so I didn't reply before.
It was "Psych", the midnight broadcast (earlier showing was edged out by two higher-priority shows), and this morning the DVR was full of a bunch of bogus recordings, all saying "Psych" and for various lengths of time. The "real" recording did start at midnight and had the whole show... plus another 200 minutes of USAHD afterwards.
Bonus bug: Once we cleared out all the bogus recordings and exited, the tuner was still on USAHD, so I changed the channel to WGN (9), and it changed alright, but the display suddenly said "rec". I checked the DVR recordings and scheduled recordings, no WGN. I asked my wife if she was recording WGN morning news for some reason, and she wasn't. So I hit the Stop button. When I checked the DVR recordings, there was another "Psych" listed, on USAHD at midnight, but it was actually the two minutes of WGN it had just recorded for some unknown reason. Very, very weird.

Go to Silicondust.com and enter your zipcode. It will then give you a listing of all the channels. Be sure to select the Comcast Cable from the dropdown menu. It will also tell you what the broadcast format is, i.e. 480i,720p,1080i etc.

My new Motorola DCX 3400 does not appear to present as clear a high def picture at 1080i as an earlier Motorola HDDVR (DCT 3412) I had. The recording capacity tripled.
Ouch, that's a bummer. We still have the 3412 we've had for years, and I've been thinking about going to one of the newer ones because we're recording more HD these days and the 3x capacity would be nice. But not at the cost of video quality.

radioinsomnia 02-20-10, 01:00 PM Note from Comcast in my latest bill:
Effective March 29, 2010, Fox will begin to discontinue
the distribution of Fox Reality Channel, available to
Comcast Digital Classic customers on channel 108,
and will replace Fox Reality Channel with National
Geographic Wild. Effective April 22, 2010, Centric will
be added to Digital Classic channel 481.
Can't say I'll miss Fox Reality, but I also don't really care about what they're adding.

andyross63 02-21-10, 08:50 AM Here in Schaumburg, I've noticed that "Weather on the 8's" on The Weather Channel has been intermittent for the past month or so. Blame NBC for their infinite stupidity in relegating the biggest event of the Olympics for North American fans to a secondary channel instead of putting it on the main network. Also note that Comcast isn't the only cable company to not have MSNBC HD, from what I've read, quite a few companies don't have it.

Effective March 1, you can remove Setanta Sports (Channel 683) from your lineup. It is going out of business this Sunday night at 11 p.m. (CT). This was confirmed in a separate letter from Comcast that I received.
Most of the Setanta programming (English soccer, rugby, etc.) will resurface beginning March 1 on Fox Soccer Plus, 24-hour-a-day extension of Fox Soccer Channel (Channel 401). However, Fox has not announced any affiliate agreements for this channel nor its exact pricing. So it's unlikely it will slot into 683 unless there are new developments in the next few days.
As someone upthread mentioned, we're also still waiting for the HD version of the main FSC.
Big Bears Fan 02-22-10, 05:18 PM Even though Comcast has MSNBC on the digital side ,don't they still have to negotiate a contract for the HD channel as well ? We all know how slow Comcast is when it comes to negotiating contracts some of us don't have NFL Redzone supposedly for that same reason downstate Illinois so some csrs have said.
Received a letter from Comcast and the next level of programming changes are coming to the Elmhurst area sooner than planned. A non-descript envelope with no indication of it coming from Comcast with only a "time sensitive-please do not discard" on it...just like a million other pieces of junk mail I get. For whatever reason, I chose to open it steps away from the trash.
On March 16, expanded basic transmitted exclusively in digital on channels 24-37 and 39-75. (kind of weird as there is nothing on channel 38).
What I thought strange was that they only explicitly listed 14 channels in the 24-75 range that will need a STB/DTA yet there are more than 14 channels in there. If they are all going digital, shouldn't it be all of them...can anyone clarify?
Adding 6 HD channels to digital starter and 9 to digital classic...(QVC HD makes it worth the wait )
I know this will make some of you happy, but I've still got an SD TV with SD recorders (and no STB) that allow me to freely record and time shift as I see fit. I knew this time would eventually come but it sure doesn't make me happy.

I canceled Comcast because they do not provide all the channels in HD. I got tired of paying the same $$$ as people in other markets who get all the HD channels. Why should I pay the same but get less?? I paid for HBO and only got 1 HD channel but people elsewhere were getting more HBO's in HD than just 1.
The second reason I canceled is Comcast has retarded DVR prices. If the TVPal DVR worked in QAM I'd rather pay $299 for that and be done than pay every month more than what my friend with a TiVO pays Dish ($5 per month).
I ran a rescan with my QAM tuner last night to pick up any recent changes. Found almost everything, but I have a couple of questions:
CLTV: Is that still on clear QAM? Could not find it. If anyone knows the channel (I'm covered out of the Elmhurst office), it would be appreciated.
TWC: Found this moved to 79.9 since my last scan. However, while I have picture, there's no sound. I have a few other ones like that too e.g. some local access and infomercial channels primarily in the 80.x range, but not exclusively. Can someone explain how that happens? I'm assuming it's a Comcast configuration and there's nothing I can do to correct it unless it's also on another channel that my tuner didn't catch.
Thanks

ThanksCLTV is no longer part of expanded basic cable. You need digital starter or higher i think. Don't expect it to be in clear qam.
andyross63 02-28-10, 09:19 AM Here in Schaumburg, CLTV is on ClearQAM 82-22, which PSIP's to 1-6 (weird.) It's also working as 41 on the DTA. What is odd is that the encrypted version the cable boxes use is on 72-22! (Side note: ANYBODY know if CLTV HD is available anywhere??? They've been running that logo for months.)
As for the audio, double check the audio options on the TV to make certain it isn't try to use SAP or some other language. For digital, make sure it's set to DEFAULT or similar.
Before the unencrypted the ClearQAM's, there were 2 digital WC's. One encrypted that the box used, and one unencrypted.

I'm aware it's no longer part of expanded basic, but I previously was able to pick it up on QAM in the clear after it moved to digital. There are other channels only in dig starter, e.g. Fox Business, that are also in the clear.
I assume CLTV is either now encrypted or on a channel my tuner scan didn't pick up. Comcast isn't the best in keeping their PSIP correct and my QAM tuner is a bit picky so I wanted to find if it was in the clear for others

Thanks. That gives me enough hope to keep looking, although 82-22 and 1-6 weren't successful for me. The CLTV site says about HD:
CLTV is now producing local news in HD out of new facilities at WGN-TV in Chicago. Stay tuned for announcements on how you can watch CLTV in HD in your home, or contact your video provider and request CLTV in HD.
For further questions, call CLTV at 773-528-2311 or use the e-mail form below.
For TWC, the TV audio wasn't trying to use SAP. This behavior is channel specific and I don't think the tuner has individual channel options memory but I'll recheck.
I'm thinking there may be another clearQAM TWC channel to find. I've got a Big10 ClearQAM channel with no audio too, but additional searching found a Big10 ClearQAM that also had audio.

You sure do (or a CableCARD if your TV has a slot for it) - along with the appropriate digital cable subscription for the channels you want.
Critical Hippo 03-01-10, 07:49 AM Looks like the city is getting the guide update within the next two weeks. My box has a message saying that changes to the guide will occur on March 10 and may require an update to parental control settings, favorite channels, etc.
A small part of me hopes that the changes will come hand in hand with new channel additions, but the experiences of everyone else here suggests otherwise.
dattier 03-01-10, 12:21 PM Hippo, which segment of the city are you in? I'm in Area 2 and had that message this morning as well, so no doubt it applies to Area 3 too, but maybe not to Areas 1, 4, and 5, unless you're in 1, 4, or 5, or someone in 1, 4, or 5 received it.
(That's why I specify "Northwest Side" in my location info.)
Critical Hippo 03-01-10, 12:43 PM I'm pretty sure I'm in Region 2 as well. I'm up just a bit north of the city in the 60618 area code. I think I would need cartography lessons to make sense of Comcast's Chicago cable areas.

My TV has a QAM Tuner if that helps.. They do charge me $10 for a basic xfinity cable. I get alot of channels, but mostly are SD or 480i which is basically upscaled SD. So my question is, if I rent that cable box, will I be able to get more HD channels without any additional cable package?
anthony ippolito 03-01-10, 05:38 PM today they fix channel 249 mctv put station call letters and they download the programming guide.still did not fix channel 599 no station call letters or programming guide. still did not fix channel 24 access blank.
Hey guys I have a DCX-3400 and have it hooked up via HDMI to my Pioneer SC-05 and HDMI from the SC-05 to my Panny plasma.
About once or twice a week I get a video dropout that could be a couple of seconds long to almost 45 seconds. This is ONLY the video not audio.
What can I do here? Is it just the box itself (maybe try another?) or maybe a cable?
FWIW, I have an Oppo Blu-ray player hooked up via HDMI to the SC-05 and to the plasma and do not have this problem, so I gotta think its something with the STB.
Thanks

That sounds like the update we got a couple weeks ago that just changed the guide names of some of the channels, but was still A25.
We're supposedly getting A28 w/ the added DVR features and myDVR scheduling on Wednesday though.

They're not really Comcast's, they're the city's, dating back to the original division into five franchises in, I think, the early 1980s. 1, 4, and 5 ended up with Chicago Cable while 2 and 3 went to Group W Cable, and there still are some differences even though Comcast has all five now.
The city's map (http://egov.cityofchicago.org/webportal/COCWebPortal/COC_EDITORIAL/CableMap.pdf) puts all of 60618 into Area 2.
cobalt206 03-02-10, 01:30 AM Did anyone what the Bulls game on 192 WGN HD tonight.
WOW--what a bunch of garbage.what kind of a feed were they using
I had so much fragmentation, artifacting, background noise etc.
I couldn't not believe me eyes. They usually broadcast in 1080, and thats what the 3400 motorola box was at.
I switched to the NBA network, when they switched to their own feed, it was absolutely beautiful. WGN's was worthless. What gives? Anyone else notice??
I saw a bit of the Bulls broadcast before tip off last night on WGN...looked fine to me. I switched to something else before tip off.
Andy...I gotta say thanks for what you post. I've been following your posts for a little while as I also live in Schaumburg. I started with trying to get OTA HD signals but was rather unsuccessful (only could get about half local hd channels). Thankfully, I discovered ClearQAM, so I was able to catch most of the Olympics in HD (as well as the other channels broadcasting the Olympics in SD).
Trying to live cheaply so all I have is Comcast HSI...and for TV whatever I get off of ClearQAM over that same cable. I get about 100 unscrambled channels at the moment...covering nearly all of the channels I used to watch on my dad's DirecTV. I know that'll probably change (someone told me Comcast is in a transition period for ClearQAM) but as long as I can get the local channels in HD I'll be happy.
cobalt206 03-02-10, 01:52 PM Hey guys-
Are there "ANY" indoor HD antennas that actually work.
When I used to have satellite tv, the local HD channels were AMAZING. Always.
With my Comcast, at times the local hd channels look beautiful, and many other times they really don't look very good at all.
I was at a buddy's house who has an outdoor roof antenna and when we watch anything on a local channel he switches to the over the air HD antenna and it ALWAYS looks amazing (im talking about programming that is shot and broadcast in HD of course).
I'd rather not have to do the on roof thing right now, but am I correct in assuming that any and all indoor antenna are basically garbage??
Any good ones??
thanks

You are probably better off asking this over in the Chicago OTA thread:

Comcast is supposed to drop the expanded analogs here in most of the NW 'burbs around July 27. I don't know how long they will keep them in ClearQAM.
For those where Comcast has already dropped analogs: Are they still using ClearQAM for the expanded?
Ah cool...that's not too bad then...I thought it was in a month or something...but July...maybe I'll be able to afford to bump it up to at least expanded basic with a digital box by then....
djdanska 03-02-10, 07:48 PM I still have them in clearQam out here in glen ellyn.
Not exactly cable related but is anyone having horrible internet speed problems from Comcast tonight (I'm in the Oswego area). I'd call them but they always want you to reboot your modem, reboot your router, run a spyware scan, etc, before telling you its not their fault and they need to send a tech out. Then, the next day the speed problems clear up on their own.

I had so much fragmentation, artifacting, background noise etc.WGN has always had issues with sports, or anything fast-moving for that matter (Smallville looks awful at times). Old encoders, I presume.

Thanks guys. Like I said, it usually clears up by itself:

Funny though how Comcast is my provider and their test is slower for me. :(
djdanska 03-03-10, 02:23 PM I can often get speed tests from 4Mbps down/3Mb up to 60Mb/11Mb just by using a different speed test site.
Here are a few i did now. I am on the 50/10 plan.

If you're looking for channels like ESPN HD, A&E HD, USA HD History HD, etc. - no. You need a digital package to get those channels. Simply renting a box won't get them.
In fact, if you are only paying $10 for basic cable, you shouldn't be getting the SD versions of those channels. You're already getting more than you're paying for.
andyross63 03-06-10, 12:13 PM Had something weird happen. I was doing some channel surfing, when the box suddenly got very sluggish, even on SD. I tried to go into the menu, and got a 'this feature is not available yet' message. That seemed to imply it was reloading the menus. I turned it off and decided to let it sit for awhile. About 10 minutes later, I tried to run it on, and it rebooted instead.
Also, for some reason, it did not record Leno or Letterman last night. It didn't even change the channels. I guess something was messed up. I know it was showing about 140 days on the uptime counter.
How ridiculous! Anyone around here get one of these notices? http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/New-Comcast-TV-Broadband-Phone-Price-Hikes-April-First-107260
Comcaster here in Batavia...subscribing.
jettrue 03-10-10, 11:28 AM Did anyone have problem recording Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother Monday? I do have 3 programs scheduled from 7-8pm, the above, Chuck and Terminator. But the 2 CBS shows are of higher priority. They always recorded before... The only thing I can think of is that they were falsely marked as reruns or they didn't start on time and so the other 2 shows recorded instead, but that seems suspicious. I deleted Chuck now since it is being recorded on another box, but this is the first time I've seen this. Too bad the Motorola dvr doesn't have a history like Tivo which says why it wasn't recorded.
I have not been able to record How I Met Your Mother (HIMYM) yet. I search in the menu, and it will sometimes only find the LIFE channel rerun episodes, which we do have recording, and it works. Last night I searched and it only found the cbs SD channel in the menu. I set it to record, and I'm crossing my fingers hoping that it will record next week, but I'd rather it record the HD version. *confused*
Weird thing is, I've jumped forward in the menu to Monday night at 7pm, (I checked this saturday), and HIMYM was not listed in the menu. I forget what was, but it wasn't HIMYM. CSI, maybe? But I KNOW that it was scheduled to come on on march 8th. So I'm thinking it's a menu issue. Anyone else have this problem?
This is my favorite show. :(
