Eddie, how far are you from their tower? I live a distance of 61 miles and receive them with meter readings ranging from 93-100% most of the time. I would venture to guess that they are at full power. I have an outdoor Winegard 7084 VHF/UHF combo 30 feet in the air. I'm only using it for the VHF channels. I have a DB-8 for UHF.
Their signal returned Saturday night; so, I guess the problem was most likely on their end.

I'm 57 miles by the GPS. If they are full power thats only 20KW. All the other Savannah stations I have no problem with their signal.
WVAN's tower is located in Pembroke. For me, that puts them about 17 miles closer than say, WTOC's tower. That makes a BIG difference in the signal I receive. WVAN comes in almost 100% of the time. About the only issue I have with them is during a thunderstorm. WTOC's signal, on the other hand, often falls below the digital cliff. I am guessing for you, the situation is opposite... WTOC's tower is closer to you than WVAN's. So, you have the reverse problem. There may, also, be other issues... such as topography.
bmeeks8 12-02-09, 06:57 PM Same for me here in Vidalia with WVAN versus WTOC. Since the June transition WTOC has gone from one of my most reliable stations to my least reliable one from Savannah. WVAN is the most reliable now. I'm attic-mounted with my antenna so I don't get the 100% that Rick does, but I do routinely get in the high 70s for WVAN. On my TV, anything above 32 is a solid lock.
WVAN and WTOC are broadcasting with similar ERP values, but WTOC just does not make the trip out here very well at their VHF frequency. Their pre-transition UHF signal (on 15) boomed out here. WVAN is closer by 17 miles as Rick said, but WTOC has about 500 feet more antenna height last time I checked the docs.
so after 3 months Fox SportSouth HD is back on ch. 401, showing womens college bball which is not in HD, and not the Thrashers, I cannot understand this channel at all
Eddie I get WVAN at about 270 deg. all the other stations from Sav are about 235 deg.
bryan92 01-14-10, 10:21 AM I was told to try a decibel pad. I ordered an assortment from 3db to 20db. None worked. I am putting up another antenna shortly (when temperature permits).
SamoaJoe 01-20-10, 05:46 PM Anyone have an update on comcast savannah? I got a message on my boxes saying they were updating the guide yesterday. What about the migration to digital and new HD channels?
jstarling82 02-11-10, 08:56 AM Hey, new to the forums here and recently purchased a HD TV. Unfortunately, my cable provider requires a serious upgrade to their service in order to receive HD programming. I'm not completely averse to changing my plan, but I'd like to weigh my options first.
I've noticed a few posters in this thread from the Statesboro area, which is where I live. I live on the west side of town in a wooded subdivision. What are the odds I could get a good digital signal out of Savannah or Augusta? How reliable could I expect it to be, and what is the recommendation for a low-budget indoor (maybe outdoor) antenna?
Thanks,
Jason
jstarling82 02-13-10, 02:09 PM Just a quick follow-up, in case anyone has any thoughts on Savannah-area programming. I visited TVfool and generated the following analysis:
http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=29&q=id%3d27eed08de0a354
Honestly, I'm not 100% sure what to make of this, so I'm looking for an antenna recommendation. I'd rather go either indoor or rooftop, since the mount and wiring are already up there. Attic mount is more than I want to tackle at the moment.
Thoughts?
LLCoach50 02-18-10, 11:25 PM Before you run out for an antenna, plug the cable wire into your new HDTV and if your new set has an OTA digital tuner it may also have QAM capabilities, you may be surprised at what is hiding in that wire. A number of cable companies pass the HDTV QAM signal unscrambled for local OTA stations and in some cases toss in some other HDTV and digital cable channels, TWC does it Bluffton.

First thing I did. Unfortunately I'm with Northland "Cable", and they only provide HD content to Deluxe subscribers.
LLCoach50 02-27-10, 04:01 PM I would still give it a shot, as most CSR just tell everyone asking about HDTV, "that you have to have their" Digital Gateway (Cox), their Optimium Service (NY Metro Cablevision) or their Digital Box (TWC).....
That is the corporate line, just take the base cable and have the TV do a channel search.

That's what I mean. I did that when I hooked up the TV, which is why I called to find out whether any additional channels should be available because I wasn't seeing any.
For those who didn't know, Comcast has added Bio.HD on 464, and Planet Green HD on 466, this past week, they have also added a bunch of channels in the 100's.
Also, I just spoke with a rep from Comcast and in the third quarter the World of More/xfinity is supposed to get here, she gave me actual channel numbers of HD channels moving to the 700's from the 400's, hopefully she is correct.
upstate31410 05-02-10, 11:20 PM Also, I just spoke with a rep from Comcast and in the third quarter the World of More/xfinity is supposed to get here....
Which more than likely will mean MANDATORY boxes for all tv's, including NTSC sets. No more plug & play (directly into the wall).
Jacksonville just transitioned to this.
groove93 05-20-10, 05:23 PM Some good news, Fox28 aired "Two and a Half Men" in HD along with a couple of commercials which were also in HD, let's hope this becomes a trend with their other syndicated shows.
Comcast has just put all cable channels 2-70, plus style and a few others (local subs) in the available QAM, which hopefully is a sign they are gearing up for full analog transition. Also if you have Digital Classic, Fox College Sports on 723, 724, and 725 are now available, cause they were blocked before.
McDonoughDawg 05-27-10, 10:24 AM Any experience by anyone on this thread with dorms at Georgia Southern and HD reception?
Wonder what is up with WJCL 22.1 no signal last nite or today
SamoaJoe 09-08-10, 06:16 PM Any update on the potential Savannah Comcast changes next month?
What do you think is supposed to happen? cause i just talked to them a couple weeks ago and they said January
SamoaJoe 09-10-10, 05:18 PM digital transition, 100+ HD channels, etc. the stuff they're doing around the country with project calvary.
derf_man 09-10-10, 05:45 PM Read what some Comcast customers say in response to Comcast's blog about Project Calvary. They are not happy.

Hey, I can't wait for 100+ HD channels! Augusta has had these for almost a year, and every time I talk to Comcast they keep saying that it would happen later and later, so unless I see 100+ HD channels I won't believe it.
upstate31410 09-14-10, 07:04 AM WTOC is gutting their news studio. New set & graphics soon for HD local news programming.
groove93 09-25-10, 12:37 PM Anyone having issues with Fox 28 as of late? Audio quality sounds really bad at times, and the signal comes in and out.
I'm wondering if anyone with Cable or Satellite are having these issues because I'm using an Antenna. All other stations including WJCL 22 and Augusta affiliates are coming in with strong signals.
So its October, and Comcast just added new channels! Only 5 though, 384-HSN HD, 385-Hallmark HD, 390-NFL Redzone HD, 399-msnbc HD, and 478-NBA HD. Hopefully they'll add more in the coming weeks.
SamoaJoe 10-01-10, 05:46 PM Hmm... I don't seem to have them. Hopefully they get turned on over the weekend. MSNBC and G4 are the two stations I've wanted in HD for the longest. Happy to see MSNBC is coming.
generix 10-04-10, 06:07 PM Anyone having problems with Cartoon Network (channel 60) on non-boxed tvs? I have one TV on a Tivo Series 2 and one just straight out of the wall and neither has had a signal for CN since last week. My digital HDTV/DVR box receives it just fine. I didn't see anything on the bills about this channel, is anyone else seeing this?
generix 10-05-10, 10:27 AM Ok, nevermind; CN and WEN have apparently been transitioned to digital, which means I need to replace my TiVo much sooner than expected.
groove93 10-11-10, 05:21 PM WTOC News in HD and lookin great!!!!!
upstate31410 10-28-10, 10:46 PM Now if we could only do something about Sonny Dixon, we'd be ok!
groove93 10-29-10, 10:34 PM WSAV now has their own weather sub channel @ 3.3
Eddie39 10-30-10, 05:48 PM WSAV now has their own weather sub channel @ 3.3
I first noticed last night they are not in High Def and still not today on 3.1.

I just talked with their news dept, they are aware of the problem and engineers are working on it.
From Comcast rep: For GA area, phase-1 upgrade is on 11/25/2010, (sending emails to our GA customers informing them of the changes) phase-2 (new HD channels will be added) is on 12/23/2010 and phase-3 is on 01/20/2011.

What's this about?
upstate31410 12-21-10, 07:36 PM D* to drop WTOC on Dec 31 if no agreement is reached with Raycom:

upstate31410 12-22-10, 08:55 PM I understand Oljim. Re-read the note.
This impacts ALL Raycom stations, including WCSC AND WTOC.
SamoaJoe 01-03-11, 06:57 PM Any update on the Comcast front? A coworker said he received a notice from them last week about changes in pricing but didn't know anything else. I haven't received/read/heard anything. I still don't have the 5 HD channels that were added in October (MSNBC, etc) and I live in west chatham but a friend who lives in midtown has them.
I recently talked to Comcast online, and they said they had ran into a problem with implementing the upgrade of new HD channels, and it should be done by the end of the current quarter. They keep delaying this, but hopefully it will happen.
upstate31410 02-08-11, 08:16 PM So....Xfinity is supposedly here. Anyone see the changes?
baliztik 02-08-11, 11:48 PM Last week, for a few hours, I saw 6 or so new HD channels on my guide. None of them were active and they disappeared in the evening. Other than that I see nothing different. I still don't have MSNBC HD like the rest of Savannah supposedly does.

Communism isn't pretty...
even in HD :)
Looks like at least 20 new HD channels here in Pooler this morning. Bravo, TRUTV, CBS Sports, The HUB, WGN, Encore, Hallmark, Outdoor, Indieplex, Retroplex......
Still hoping for some more HBO and Showtime along with Cooking Channel and DIY.
rjknyy - did you get G4, CNBC, OR TCM in HD also? I guess us who live in Midtown won't get these till May or June :(

Nothing here in Guyton/Rincon but the CSR told me it should be march for us. Here's hoping.
rjknyy - did you get G4, CNBC, OR TCM in HD also? I guess us who live in Midtown won't get these till May or June :(
Yes, we got those as well. Some other ones that I can remember of the top of my head are Sportsmen Channel, Gospel Music Channel, Ovation, NG Wild, Style, Tennis Channel, NHL Channel, Crime and Investigation HD and Discovery ID.
Some others for those interested.....
Fox Business, Weather Channel, BET, CMT, QVC, Palladia, History International and Big 10 Network
baliztik 02-21-11, 06:23 PM Sounds like things are really ramping up. Nothing new here in west chatham though. I finally got MSNBC HD a week ago so that's a plus.
rjknyy, are all of the new channels in the 380-499 range or did they move them around?

For the most part. Indieplex and Retroplex are 355 and 356, while Crime and Investigation and Ovation are at 521 and 522.
Just wondering if those in Richmond Hill or Skidaway Island got their upgraded channels yet, can anybody say if they have?
baliztik 03-09-11, 05:50 PM I'm not richmond hill or skidaway but I can report I received a notice saying west chatham is getting the upgrade on 4/12.
WSAV has finally gone to an HD newscast as of yesterday, but no field HD cameras, just studio.
derf_man 03-09-11, 08:47 PM Comcast upgraded Richmond Hill on March 8. We got about a dozen new HD channels. I have noticed one difference today. Movies streamed in from Netflix were jerky. I'll check again tomorrow. Hope Comcast is not up to any dirty tricks.
If anyone is interested I got this last night from SAVspartan on Comcast's forum's, I got the new channel assignments for the upcoming upgrade on April 12th:
baliztik 04-13-11, 05:24 PM So... it's April 13th. No channels.
Not sure what part of the city that person lives in, cause we didn't get the notice yet and I'm in midtown
baliztik 04-13-11, 11:50 PM I got that same notice about April 12th. I'm a little bummed it didn't happen since I was looking forward to it. I've waited this long, I can wait a little longer. Comcast and I haven't been getting along for the past couple months though...
The weird thing is that for the past week on their website under Channel Lineup I enter my address and it says I should have all of those channels already, even the Comcast rep that I chatted with tonight said it shows that its been changed but not in reality, unless it happens tonight at 2:30am which is when they do updates.
I actually went to Comcast today and they said for my area - Abercorn - that it would be July 12th :(
baliztik 04-20-11, 05:37 PM Just walked in the door from work and did the daily channel check. I'm happy to report I now have all of the promised new channels. Happy day!
upstate31410 05-16-11, 01:04 AM Slight change of subject.
Has anyone in Savannah that subscribes to Comcast noticed an increased amount of Comcast "inserted" commercials featuring out of town businesses? Over the past few months, I have noticed:
*Car Commercials from Statesboro
*Car commercials from Brunswick (I-95 Toyota)
*Car Commercials from Jacksonville (Lexus)
*Commercials advertising some arts festival in Augusta (the only visible media sponsor was WRDW TV, no mention of Comcast or Xfinity)
*Commercials for "Wild Adventures" in Valdosta, targeted to Jacksonville
Is Comcast Savannah linked up somehow to Comcast in Jacksonville, Brunswick & Augusta? It seems to be, so if so, how?
Whats up with WGSA- CW OTA has been off for several days
phantoms 05-30-11, 05:18 PM Whats up with WGSA- CW OTA has been off for several days
Same here. No WGSA for quite a few days over the air. Their website which has always been hard to find (wgsa.tv) is showing down for maintenance and trying to contact them at info@wgsa.tv gets no replies.
I received an email reply today from an employee at WGSA.
WGSA is not transmitting due to a problem with the microwave linkup.
Their engineers are working it.
No further details were provided.
baldheadjim 06-01-11, 10:11 PM Thanks ffoos! I was wondering if why I could not get WGSA anymore. Started adjusting my antenna thinking the problem was on my end. I wonder if their cable offering is also down for maintenance.

upstate31410 08-27-11, 08:30 PM zzzzzzzzzzz...................
So I was at Comcast again today, and now they say we won't get the HD update till October 4th, what is with these people?
PumpDiode 09-13-11, 11:16 AM have basic limited with no boxes and up until today got up to chan. 70 over qam. As of today it looks like comcast has removed everything past basic limited (2 to 16 or so remaining over qam). i guess its time to force boxes on us (no thanks, that's why my bill is 13 bucks a month, plan on keeping it that way..)
anyway, just a heads up of how things are on wilmington isl..
Finally got all of the new HD channels today that Comcast promised, only seven months after they started the conversion.
