So am I to understand the NEW HD lineup that Cox has been talking about and showcasing on their website is also going to be available to us Tivo users or is that wishful thinking ? I'm afraid the news doesn't appear to be good for us Tivo owners. Over in Tivo forums a couple of Cox OC users have reportedly talked to supervisors and were told that there will be no new HD channels for CableCard customers from this point out (in preparation for SDV). So if this turns out to be true at least until/if dongle every materializes what you have now is all you will get with Cox. Here's 1 post from a guy in Laguna Niguel:
http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?p=5699035#post5699035
It turns out that the HD channels Cox S3 customers have now are all they're gonna get. According to Cox tech support, and a supervisor I was transferred to, S3 (cable card) customers will not be receiving any of the new channels to be broadly launched on Dec. 17, nor any added thereafter. The supervisor informed me that SDV support is required to get any additional channels, and that cable card S3's would not be compatible. When I complained about not being notified in any way of these limitations, she tried to float the notion that it's not only the cable card that is incompatible, but also the S3 and my displays -- that's when we parted company (I hung up the phone).

In any case, the HD channels I cannot get now, even though I live in Laguna Niguel, are CNN HD, Discovery HD, NFL Network HD, TLC HD, History HD and Animal Planet HD. And I assume I won't be watching HDNet or HDNet Movies on Dec. 17...
It doesn't bother me too much about that particular set of channels (I would probably not watch any of them anyway). What I am really afraid of is if channels that we already have start being taken away... Also I was looking forward to having SciFi & USA HD at some point in the future...

Seems only fair that if this is really the case that there is going to have to be a lower rate structure for people using CableCards seeing as they can't get all the channels in the digital tier. If that doesn't happen and things start getting bad I will probably just cancel digital service completely and maybe just go with limited basic or even just cancel cable completely and go OTA only.

But for now it's wait and see... hopefully Cox OC understands what they are doing and will limit SDV to channels that actually make most economical sense to be there - the least popular ones. Otherwise SDV gives them no benefit and in fact alienates all CableCard customers for no good reason.

I'm in the same boat with you guys, being owner of 3 Sony DVRs with Cablecard. I do have now the 1st batch of the new HD channels (FSNHD, A&E HD etc..) that are still not available to everybody. I guess that I won't be getting the new ones that will be available on Dec 17.

Ok, I just did some checking and my Tivo HD's are showing 714, 721, 724, 739, 754, 762, 763, 772 and 781 with Full channel guide but when I tune to that station, it says "Channel not available". So does this mean when these channels become available to me in my area I should be able to get them on the Tivo's ?

But on the flip side I am not showing 729, 756, 757, 792 and 793 at all on the Tivo's. and I am assuming these are going to be the SDV based HD channels ?

Also NONE of the listed channels above on either paragraph are showing up on my Cox HD DVR but I am assuming none of it has been pushed to my unit since they should not be available anyways because of my area.

One last note: I am currently getting 713, 767 and 790 on my Tivo's w/ full channel guide and content. But none of which are still available on my Cox HD DVR.

Any clarification on my listings above would be great. I am assuming since Ladara, Newport, Laguna and Aliso and a few other local neighborhoods have all of these channels already, I am hoping anyone with Tivo HD's could possibly comment on if my assumptions are correct.

Thanks in advance.

In my case the current situation for newer HD channels with my Tivos and my current understanding:
Full guide data & tunes fine:
713,724,727,763,767,781,790,791

Guide data but can't tune (CableCard customers will not be getting these):
714,721,739,754,762,772
No guide data and can't tune (CableCard customers will not be getting these):
729,756,757,792,793

WOW !!

Thats too bad then. Out of 15 NEW HD channels, 6 of which I would love to watch in HD will not be available on the new Tivo's.

I have been reading that the Tuner resolver should be available before a widespread roll out of SDV. So what do they consider wide spread ? When ALL HD channels are on SDV ? That could be another 6 months to a year and I have been reading other providers like TWC have already moved towards a LOT MORE SDV usage than Cox and there is no news on when the device would be available for TWC users. Too bad there really is no real clear time table and who this solution is going to be available from.

I really hate to go back to the Cox HD DVR's. I have gone through 9 boxes in the last year alone either from excessive fan noise to flat out no functionality. And even when the hardware works, they have software issues in regards to volume cut out's, picture freezing or no picture and you have to change channels to get things back and if you have a live show rewinded you basically loose what you had rewinded to gain audio or video back. That doesn't even cover how limited their show recording options are especially in regards to the amount of space available with no possible expansion.

:mad:Well, I took the crappy DVR that the RSM office gave me the other day and returned it to the Quail Hill office, and they set me up with a brand new, never used, DCH3416. Not sure what the difference between it and my other DCT3416 is, but so far in the few days that I've had it there have been none of the problems you describe. But it's early......

Kind of Irksome, Irvine has seen none of the upgrades, I would think infastructure updates here would be easier than anywhere else given layout and no hills.

I fear December will pass us by (1 month to turn us on COX, don't forget)

I still have a single DCT3416 and I will take mine to exchange it for the new box also next week. Curious, is the menu and functionality identical to the DCT3416 ? Also does it have Cable Cards installed, can it take an extrenal SATA storage for expansion ? Any faster in response? I know you have not had it for too long so if you have no clue, I would understand. ;)

I still would love to use the Tivo's for the additional features BUT I am starting to think Tivo may not be the best solution going forward if there are more and more SDV channels being brought out with no REAL time table for a solution.

BTW, is this it ?

that is the look, unsure about the "M Card" I have 1 6412 and 1 3416, neither have had any issues. Software is the same. Only differences are 6 series is Analog and Digital, 3 series is Digital only, and 12=120gig, 16=160gig.

34 runs cooler due to digital only, better design / airflow.

I traded my DCT's in for DCH's about a month or two ago and when I asked what was the difference, I was told it was the same box except that it had cable card functionality built in. Menu and Functionality are identical, sata port cannot be used. seems to be just as fast/slow.

I haven't noticed any difference between the DCT and DCH, which is why I wondered about it in my last post. The DCH is lighter and sleeker, for what that's worth.

Anyone know what the difference in the DCT 6416 III box is? That is the one I have now. Is it old? How does it compare to the others that are out there?

Well, I guess have to stop complaining for a while now. I woke up this morning (Tuesday) and checked the TV and now have the following new HD channels:

713 KCOP HD
714 CNN HD
721 Disc HD
727 TBS HD
739 NFL HD
754 TLC HD
763 FSN HD (the one I really wanted!!!)
767 A&E HD
772 Animal Planet HD
790 National Geographic HD

Also have available but do not subscribe:

724 Cinemax HD
781 Starz HD

From what I have seen advertised by Cox, seem to be missing only the new HDNET channels (HD Net and HD Movies, by 12/17?) and Food Network, HGTV and History HD. I can wait for those, hopefully also by 12/17.

Nice Thanksgiving gift from Cox. Did not have to reboot, channels just showed up. I did not check Monday, did not get a chance to check TV so maybe there yesterday???.

Haven't gotten it, but it looks like they're trying to migrate people to DOCSIS 2.0 capable modems. Depending on the manufacturer/model/chipset, some existing devices might not be upgradeable.

If they're offering it, ya might as well take it. Odds are, if it were to stop working in the future, they'd probably replace it for free as well.

2 months ago, when it looked like the Cable Modem (4 years old?) had died, they wanted 250 to replace it. Um, ok Ill take this free one.

I wonder why they don't turn on the Modems in the DVRs and save modems from people who have the Set Top Boxes.

Yes I got this on August 6th and replied to get my free one, it came as advertised about 6-8 weeks later, which was sometime last month. The new one is much smaller and works well. I had a Linksys which was docsis 1.1 compatible and techs said the 2.0 improvements won't come till sometime next year. I did however notice a couple of MB's improvement, or it could have been just a coincidence. Just curious, do you subscribe to the basic internet or enhanced speed? I have the enhanced one.

Oh great....

With you getting more channels (including NFL HD) and the San Diego Cox getting more channels (http://www.cox.com/sandiego/whatsnew/20071119-newhd.asp), a squeeze play has now been put on San Diego residents who are on Time-Warner.

but we have History HD and the HD Nets, which SD does not. For once OC has a premium lineup. If it ever gets turned on :)

Of note however, SD's On Demand is HD. I would actually use OnDemand if it was HD.

What is not mentioned anywhere is if CableCard customers will be able to receive these channels. Obviously I don't want to pay for them if I can't tune them anyway... A CSR just confirmed that indeed for CableCard customers whatever you have now for HD channels is all you are going to get going forwards, so that means HDNET, HDNET movies will not be available to me anyway, so I will be dropping the $5/month HD Tier.
The CSR also read an email related to CableCard customers she received a couple of weeks ago stating that at least the current plan means HD channels that you do currently receive will not be dropped from your lineup, so at least that is good news as most of the HD channels I care about I already have and so hopefully won't be losing them in the future...

The reason I ask is that, in the past when I did a frequency scan on my digital tuner (attached to Mac computer) I would get basically all of the QAM frequencies as listed in your spreadsheet. Most of them were not "tunable" (would just get encrypted signal message from tuner). However I recently did a new scan (last weekend for the first time in about 6 weeks) and get a much smaller set which included the local channels, the radio station channels, the local government and COX preview channels and about 10 -12 others that were encrypted. My tuner hardware/software hasn't changed in that timeframe, so this seemed a bit strange.

From what CSRs have said, SDV channels will be limited to any channels additions from here on out but not existing channels - and I haven't lost any channels on my Tivos yet as far as I know which would have been the case should many older channels have been put under SDV already. I haven't done an extensive analysis recently, however some things have changed on a few RF channels (the MLB RF channel and I think number of channels devoted to VOD has been reduced), but nothing widespread from what I could tell. Note that the newer channels are all going at frequencies > 750MHz so your tuner needs to scan at least to RF channel 126 or so to find everything.

Anyone getting NFL HD?

So, not sure if this was noted, will the new HD channels require a box to view, or with they be viewable with an ATSC Tuner?

Anyone else get artifacts/discolorations during the laker game tonight on TNT-HD?

TNT desperately needs a new production crew. You always miss important parts of the game because they are too busy zooming in on celebrities or people you've never heard of. Then they make the game all small and show stats that nobody really cares about. To top it all off, they choose the worst camera angles possible, like from the sideline, top of the basket, or top of the court. You cant tell who is where or what the heck is going on!!

Sorry I needed to vent there...

I was told by a Cox rep that "they have mailed out" announcements to everyone that a box will be required for the new HD channels. The CableCards that will work with the new system won't be available until sometime next year.

I received no such announcement, and I haven't seen anyone here on the boards mentioning it...

that is fine, i guess i was looking to see what channels would work on an atsc tuner without a card or box.

I have 2 boxes, but did not want to have to get a 3rd, and 100' of HDMI isnt worth it either.

Anyone else get artifacts/discolorations during the laker game tonight on TNT-HD? Most definitely!! That was HORRIBLE. For a moment I thought something bad had happened to my TV, but tuning other channels was fine. I really only watch that channel for NBA games and I've been disappointed with it lately. Don't know where Cox OC gets the TNTHD feed from but it sure looks like a crappy 1080i HDLite satellite feed to me... Yuck!

Also FSNHD has been breaking up lately during Lakers games as well. KCALHD is the only decent one for Lakers games lately. Hope these issues get cleared up.

That followed by good news for Tivo users that a solution for tuning SDV channels will be released by July 2008 or so. Also recently Tivo in their earnings conference call mentioned the plan is for cable companies to offer the USB SDV "tuning resolver" for free to Tivo customers (though a truck roll will be necessary for them to install them).

I have extended basic cable and the only HD channels I get are the ones sent in "the clear" but I have noticed the video quality does not seem as good as it used to be. It's almost as if the streams have been re-encoded. Also, my hour long MythTV recordings for 720p range from 4 to 5 GB and the 1080i recordings from CBS or NBC are 6 to 7 GB. Has anyone else noticed reduced video quality?

Also will I notice a huge difference? I have a RP Mits WS65813, that's had about every board in it replaced within the last year. I view it in a very bright room with windows all around it. I don't mind spending the money if in fact it makes it look better than new, but I'd hate to spend it and end up wondering why I did so, if it doesn't look better.

I just called and asked for a hit, and the lady on the phone had to check a bunch of stuff like signal strength and if I had been upgraded. She said it should work now. I can't check until i get home from work, but I think its at least worth a shot to ask for the hit, as the refreshes yesterday did nothing.

She also said when i get home, to press and hold guide until the box says "read" and then press and hold the power on the box to get the "boot" and that should give me the channels.

Hope this helps.

I think that the right hand doesn't know what left is doing (and legs as well). First thing I got was an email, and I responded immediately. A few days later, I got a call from a person. Told them I already signed up. A few days after that, I got a postcard about it. And then about a week later, I got an automated call.

Unfortunately KCOP went completely reality and now doesnt show anything in HD. They used to air several shows in HD. The shows were total eye candy and were mostly horrible (Saints and Sinners) but it was nice to see SOME HD offered on a regular basis. I think I heard somewhere that they offer some of there movies in HD but every time I took a look they were always SD. Whats a real shame is that the shows they did offer in HD usually looked fantastic. In fact they were possibly the best HD picture quality wise of all the networks.

On an unrelated topic... does anyone know why FSN HD doesnt just mirror there SD channel? The whole time I've had this channel I've only seen one program air. SD sucks but its 20 times better when its offered on a truly digital channel. Seems like a waste of space when 99% of the time it says "OFF AIR".

But it is nice to have a few more options with the new HD channels when using the remote. This is an intentional thing by Cox - I'm not too surprised not all CSRs are on the same page on this. The short of it according to a Cox OC supervisor is that Cox Orange County plans to deploy Switched Digital Video (SDV) sometime early year and any of the recent HD channel additions along with any other digital (SD or HD) channel additions from here on out will be deployed under SDV. This requires set top boxes with 2 way communications (which the Tivos currently do not have), and so Cox's policy is not to allow CableCard customers to receive these channels now only to yank them away once SDV is deployed.

The good news is that Tivo and cable industry are working on a "Tuning Resolver" device which will allow Tivos to work with SDV. There are already working prototypes and Motorola has committed to having the device ready by July 2008. Then it's up to Cox to obtain these to be able to provide them to Tivo CableCard customers (supposedly it will be free of charge).

I would encourage you if you talk to Cox again to mention this "Tuning Resolver" so that they are aware of it and will be able to provide it shortly after Motorola makes it available. For all the gory details on SDV and how it relates to Tivo:

Just curious, are you getting the other new HD channels now? (San Clemente is listed as not getting them until mid-2008)

Also, on the cablecard limitations, if you have a combination (say one regular HD cable box and another TV with cablecard) will your HD cable box be limited as well or will it be sent the SDV channels?

It looks like Cox has different channel maps for cable box vs. CableCard so it's not based on account basis but rather on an individual device basis. Thus if you have a cable box you should be getting more channels than a CableCard device. I may end up renting a Cox box for a while just to take a look at some of these newer HD channels to see if there is anything interesting, but certainly none of the recent additions sound very compelling to me. Now if/when they add SciFi and USA then I will definitely be interested - those are the only 2 missing that I think I would really care about.

Anyone else in Irvine having trouble getting HDNet and HDNetMovies? Channels 792 and 793 both show up on my guide list, but whenever I go to those channels, I get a "Temporarily Off Air" error.

I've tried restarting the box, sending a hit, to no avail... Or is it just that those two channels aren't ready yet?

I'm less than a mile from you and I do have HDNet, but none of the additional channels except KCOP. This is obviously all very location-specific, possibly down to the block.

I did get the notice that I might have intermittent outages next week as they work, so hopefully that's a good sign.

thanks for the feedback. I'm considering delving into the Tivo world so trying to understand the options. Currently the Tivo box would need a cable card and so would be unable to handle the newer HD channels (which I don't yet have except for KCOP and HDnet 792-793). And, based on prior posts to this thread, that might change sometime mid to end of next year?

FYI, I have a TiVo HD (cablecard) and I _do_ have the following new channels:
National Geographic HD, FSN HD, My13 HD (KCOP), A&E HD, Starz HD (unverified because I don't subscribe) and Cinemax HD (unverified because I don't subscribe).

I don't have the following channels yet (says coming in March 08 to Foothill Ranch):
CNN HD, Discovery HD, History HD, NFL Network HD, Animal Planet HD, TLC HD

I also don't have the HDNET channels, but of course they aren't promised for a few days.

So maybe it's that second batch that is going to be SDV? On the other hand, I thought that they were going to move some of the less popular SD digital channels to SDV to make room for the HD channels (as I've read was being done in other markets).

Anything after that looks to be under SDV umbrella and unavailable to CableCard devices. Don't think any of the newer HD channel additions (after those) we will be getting. There are confirmed posts of people here in Mission Viejo that get channels I don't get with my Tivos, so looks like CableCard customers are being denied them and we won't be able to receive them until/if the "Tuning Resolver" is made available.

Laguna Beach is last on the upgrade list in 2008 but somehow KCOP and the 2 HDNet channels popped up unexpectedly, just as I was about to consider D*TV. I do not subscribe to the HD tier so I have not watched HDNet - the channels show a subscription message. KCOP works fine.

Stupid question but, how do you find out the frequency of a channel? :) A couple of ways (assuming they still work, I haven't had a Cox set top box for quite a while now):
Method 1
# Menu to display Quick Settings Menu
# Down, B, Up, B (within 5 seconds)

Method 2
# Power off, Select, Select
# d06
Look for Inband Frequency - page down to see other tuner info

Thanks for taking the time to do this.

Could just be me, but......did something happen with digital audio? I'm in Newport Beach and when getting digital audio via Cox my receiver would show audio channel breakout (ie 3/2 or 2/0). A couple of days ago the breakout doesn't show but I'm still getting an audio signal over coaxial...what's going on? The audio doesn't sound as well as it did last week....this happened a couple of days ago.....thanks

okay, never mind. I went to cox menu and digital audio, then changed setting from linear pcm to dolby digital and got digital audio back as it used to be. Then went back to linear pcm and all is fine. My mitsubishi receiver is about 6 years old and the cox digital audio sounds better in linear pcm instead of dolby digital....don't know why (maybe antique receiver hardware or receiver does a better job of breaking out the signal than cox box) but it does.

Ok, maybe someone can help me here. I have not had 727 TBS HD or 772 AP HD for over a week now.

Are they the same "frequency"? If so, why do you think those channels are not showing up for me (and my next door neighbor)? He had Cox come out on Friday and the tech told him something about a 807 frequency. But, they never fixed it for him. They said it "would show up sometime soon", but probably just BS from the tech guy.

Any ideas why these two channels just show up as "Temporarily Off the Air" for us?

Well, when I check the status of the channel, it says "Acquired but not playing" and lists 727 and 772 as Ch 02, not the correct channel.

When I look at an HD channel that is working, it says "Acquired and locked". And shows the appropriate channel and frequency.

Any ideas?

Yep, I get 756 and checked the frequency and it's at 813.

So, it's definiteyl something to do with the 807 frequency for some reason.

When I check 772 and 727 frequency, they are listed as "ch 003" and at 213 frequency. It's like they are linked to Channel 3's signal. Even though nothing shows up on the tv....just black.

They say "coming soon" to a given area at different given times and the only disclaimers at the bottom are you need an HDTV set and HD receiver rental or CableCard...

Is it possible they're going to SDV to make room for the new HD programming, but said programming will ultimately be available in the non-switched tier in a given area on the "coming soon" dates? (I see you're in a December 2007 area, so hopefully you'll have good news to report soon?) One would think the HD channels would be among the more popular channels (always "in demand"), so why not move some of the less popular channels to the switched tier? (oh no, perhaps to generate incremental revenue from the tuning resolver? that'd be nasty )

(oh no, perhaps to generate incremental revenue from the tuning resolver? that'd be nasty ) It seems like that wording changed a little since I last saw it, but last time I talked to a supervisor SDV was theoretically coming sometime in early 2008 and Cox OC was already reserving any new channel additions to be under SDV. 2 other markets have already started SDV deployment (Fairfax VA & Phoenix AZ) and reportedly in Tivo forums other markets such as Las Vegas like ours are not extending new HD channel additions to CableCard customers. So there seems to be some kind of corporate policy in place regarding SDV & CableCard customers. So far the channels I can't receive are no big loss so hopefully by the time SciFi HD & USA HD come about here the "tuning resolver" will be available.

Take the advice on this board! IF you want the new channels, they are probably already there! YOU MUST CALL COX and ask for a hit on your box! I now have all the new channels but none of my neighbors do! Try it.

Who did you call Tech Support or Customer Service? Plus the guide download and the boot process must only work after they have done some 'changes' on their side because it did nothing for me except lose my guide info for about 10 minutes :)

I called Cox Tech Support, got someone in Cleveland, Ohio! He sent a hit to the box twice and soon after the channels were there! Cox has some major problems with their management team, in my opinion! They have no clue what's really the reality as it applies to 'Joe Customer'! If the customer has to call to have the firmware upgraded in the box instead of Cox handling this in the background, there's a problem! Of course, Cox is always a little late to the party!

Hey guys,
I am new to the whole HD thing and I have a question about the new channels.

I have a HDTV and Cox Expanded Cable Service (Not Digital). I currently recieve 64 Digital and 71 Analog channels. On morning of December 17th I scanned for the new HD channels and they all showed up on my tv. I now had 70 HD channels. When I got home from work later that day, they were all gone. I rescanned, and my tv could not find them again. I have scanned every day since and they have not showed up.

My question is if the new HD channels are for customers with digital service only? or will customers with regular cable eventually recieve these new HD channels? Should I call Cox tech support?

Thanks

Thanks Most of the HD channels aside from the network locals are all encrypted so without a digital set top box or CableCard you won't be able to tune them. There's no way you had 70 HD channels before since there are nowhere near that many available. Perhaps you are confusing HD with digital which covers both SD & HD channels.

Right now my tv says that I have 64 digital channels and 71 analog channels. The 64 digital channels include all the network channels (cbs hd, nbc hd, abc hd, etc.) as well as nbc weather, abc weather, OC channel, a lot of infomercial channels, and a lot of Radio Stations. I didnt have any of these channels on any of my non HDTVs in my house.

On the morning of the 17th, I had all of the new HD Channels (CNN HD, Discovery HD, Food Network HD, etc.) My tv said that I had 70 Digital channels and 71 analog channels.

Maybe the channels were not encrypted that morning when they showed up on my tv and were then locked or encrypted by the time I got home later that day? I wish that the new channels were not encrypted and everyone can see them.:(

For those of you with Cox cable boxes are you getting correct listings on channel 763?
For example does it show Lakers game tonight (12/28) @ 7:30pm and on Sunday (12/30) at 7:00pm? Recently my Tivo listings changed channel name to PRIMEHD (used to be FSNHDWE) and now has listings for sporting events corresponding to channel 63 instead of 64 which is not right. I have already let Tivo know about the problem: Zap2it made the wrong change and that's where Tivo gets listings from, but I want to make sure Cox guide is still correct. Thanks.

Some earlier posts mentioned you needed to call Cox and "Bang" the box before the new HD channels would appear. Well I called yesterday from work.
The CS girl you could tell was trained at being. "Oh we show its working fine"
"Let me check". "Call back if this does not fix it". Very scripted.

Well I got my new HD channels when I turned it on this morning. :)

Cox SUCKS.

is anyone else getting an "Off Air" message for FSN HD (channel 763) in Orange County? All of my other channels work, but this one still hasn't worked in over a week. I called Cox and the guy wasn't sure if it was a receiver problem or if the channel just isn't broadcasting yet. If he doesn't know, who the hell would?

Longtime lurker, newbie poster....

After I rebooted my 3416, the guide on an HD channel (e.g., 702) is only 4x3. I recall that the guide normally fills the screen. Also, the channel button bar along the bottom doesn't stretch to fill the entire width on an HD channnel.

Related subject...can you stretch a non-HD program to fill the entire screen on channel 702, for example? I've tried all the settings to no avail.

Appreciate any tips or comments. BTW, I live in the Tustin Ranch area.

That's strange, but I will give it a try and check this channel when a game is on. I would think if a company is broadcasting on a channel, it would take advantage of all time slots through their own shows or atleast paid advertising.

can anyone else comment on this?

The big things missing are all the network related features, especially TivoToGo, MRV, remote scheduling. 30-sec skip is also not there which Iguide users were used to having. Also no way to upgrade hard drive and no external drive support are pretty big problems considering 160GB drive is the most you can currently get.

Then again, having proper season passes without getting repeat recordings of the same program may be worthwhile to some depending on what you record.

Not really a good alternative to the real Tivo hardware/software however.

I just checked my tv while watching the Indie / Titans game in HD, the guide doesn't cover the entire screen, but when I switch to SD channel it does, is this what you guys are talking about? That is normal....

regarding SD content on HD channel , Your tv should have a screen format button to expand. However, I rarely do that as it just distorts the image.

This info may be outdated, but is what I found a few months ago. Cox started passing the PIDs for most of these a month or so ago, so a new scan should have them mapped to the channel they go with (2-1 for KCBS instead of 85-3, 4-1 for KNBC instead of 84-2 ...):

Anybody looked at their Cox bill this month? Mine jumped about $50 for one tv with HD service and PVR the're charging $125.

Added HDNet and got the email for the 5 "free" on deman downloads, but they still charged me even though I got an email back from them confirming the credit.

I hate funding their cash flow.

My bill went up $4 for January unexpectedly - looking at the bill, there are 2 separate items on the bill for internet:
Cox HSI Preferred w/ PowerBoost $19.58
Cox HSI Preferred w/ PowerBoost $17.04
TOTAL = $36.62

For me it should be $41.95 - $10.00 = $31.95 promotional price. When I called Cox to ask about why 2 separate charges they couldn't explain why and credited my account with $5 just like that... I didn't receive any notice of internet rate hikes and the Cox web site still has $41.95 as the advertised rate, so not sure what the deal was...

Cable bill went down as I opted out of HD tier since HDNET and HDNETMV I would not watch anyway. It's nice to have ESPNHD & ESPND2HD with no extra charge now. My cable bill is the lowest it's been in years...

Hi All -
I'm moving from Time Warner in Huntington Beach to Cox in San Clemente.
I did some ineffective searching and didn't find an answer to this Q - can you help?

Plan on getting the basic internet ONLY. On the TW feed I have now, this allows me to receive all the unencrypted HD channels via QAM - I get the locals and some PBS. Will the situation be the same on Cox in San Clemente?

I don't need or want any of the encrypted channels - ESPN etc. . .

Thanks in advance.

If you don't subscribe to cable TV then theoretically Cox could install a low pass filter to block anything higher than around 600MHz (cable modems are using 561 & 567 MHz for downstream) which would then mean only ABC & FOX HD (@ 267MHz) would come through. It's unlikely they would put a filter on the line but I have heard one co-worker mention that such a filter was put in place for him when he dropped TV service but retained internet service.

Thanks very much guys. Sounds like I have better than a 50-50 chance of getting the OTA HD stuff.
Appreciate the help.
Anyone want to lend a hand packing, too?

I just moved in with a family that I'm renting a room from... I had them upgrade to HD-DVR for me and it's coming this week. It says on the Cox website that the DVR only holds 10 hours of HD content? Is this for real? I used to have Charter back when I lived in Minnesota, and I seem to recall it was a LOT more than that. I'm a little miffed if that's true because I travel a lot for weeks at a time...and well, you see my dilemma. WTF.

I have no idea what model their sending me. I didn't handle the customer service person as I'm not authorized on the account.

I just moved in on Saturday and I didn't want to act all anal and controlling about this because I thought it might give off the wrong impression. lol.

19-20 still seems kinda slim, but I guess it's probably more than I think...and...it'll keep me from stockpiling stuff and feeling trapped... :)

I am in Irvine CA (92602), and the Cox OC website states that our city will have the expanded HD list of channels by the end of January. Last month it was the end of December. As of today, no expansion to be seen. Anyone know whent the expanded channel line up will be "reality"?

Larry

Last night, about 15 minutes into the state of the union speech, I lost the HDTV signal for KTTVDT. I have basic cable and do not have a cable box. I tried all the HD channels that I receive; KCBSDT, KNBCDT, KABCDT, KTLADT, etc. I could not tune any of them. So... I did a re-scan of the channel list and that fixed the problem. It appears that Cox changed the frequences for these clear QAM digital channels here in Laguna Niguel. Did anyone else have this problem?

KABCDT & KTTVDT = RF 31
KNBCDT = RF 84
KCBSDT = RF 85
KTLADT & KOCEDT = RF 86

KCOPDT = RF 118 (this one did change from RF 121 where it was last time I checked)

Called Cox Cable in Orange County today, and still no definitive word on when the expanded HD channel line up will be available in Irvine. Originally it was to be available during December, then postponed to January. The techs that answer the call "know nothing"! Any information out there?

Well, I do not know what happened with my TV. It turns out that the frequencies did not change except as you said KCOPDT is different from the last time I checked.

larryis1, I'm in 92606. I was away from Jan. 16-26, but when I got back the new channels were there. Hang in there, I'm sure they'll come.

Thanks, I am in 92602. Yeah, I know that I need to be patient, I just wish Cox would level with me when I call them. Did you have to reset your box, or did it occur automatically?

Larry

When I came home, my box was off, so at some point it had rebooted itself.

yes, this has happened to all three of my boxes at least three times in the last few days - no noticeable changes though
