AsahiToro 06-09-05, 01:48 PM I'm curious of how you have your Swans coupled with the tile. My KEF Reference 2's have metal, round gold feet and they sit on my tile just as is. Would some rubber in between the feet and tile help? I'm not worried about damaging the tile, I want the best sound. Also, my speakers have mass loadable plinths. I wonder if I added some sand or something if they would sound better (tighten bass, better soundstage?)? Anyone have any ideas or should I leave well enough alone? I love to tweek though, especially when it's cheap.

Considering going to RTi 6's for the rear or maybe the FXi dipoles.
Do dipoles sound okay for multi channel SACD?
Might bump up the DPS10 to the 12" but the 10 does sound quite good. The room is not massive but does have taller ceilings.

I have had the Def Tech's for about 3 years and enjoyed them very much but the Rockets are in my opinion a huge upgrade. I watched the new Batman (great movie, best Batman yet IMO) and the SQ is excellant. At the price av123 is selling the 750's it's a steal!

justplainmike 02-21-06, 10:07 PM Hi All,
I'm excited about my new setup so I thought I'd post as well. Just got the receiver and speakers today so they're not broken in but still sound great. I'll post more about them in a week or two if anyone is interested. Thanks to everybody here who posts and gives good advice and recommendations. I wouldn't have ended up with the setup I did w/o AVS!!
My Setup:
Panasonic TH-42PD50U Plasma TV
Panasonic S97 DVD player
Panasonic SA-XR55 receiver
Mirage Omnisats (platinum) L C R channels
Mirage Omni S8 subwoofer.
I'm not a Panny fan boy (honestly!) but I don't have a ton of money to spend and these components are considered good bang for the buck (based on this forum) and so I have them and have been very happy thus far. Going to upgrade to omnisats all around and ceiling mounted when I mount my plasma on the wall.
Cheers!

I know Sony is not known for speakers but the subs are a different animal from their other speakers. Each one has two 10" drivers in a Push-Pull configuration ( like M&K) with a 250 digital amp.In my room they do deliver the goods.
TheMan5952 02-26-06, 07:40 PM I'm not a big fan of Digital amps. I especially don't like it in Sony's ES receivers (or any of their's). Do those have that digtal amp sound to it like their receivers do?

Weird huh? Today is 5/29/07, exactly a year later!!!
B&W 802Ds
I don't have a surround setup currently, but am considering either buying 3 more 802Ds, 2 802Ds and the HTM1D, or selling the 802Ds and buying Wilson Watt Puppy 8s (and small Wilsons for surround gear) if I am completely blown away by them when I can get a chance to demo them in a few months. If I get the 802Ds I would probably get the ASW 855 or ASW 875 for a sub.

Anniemay 05-28-06, 10:37 PM Does anyone own the Athena Micra 6 speakers. i would love to here what they are like as I am debating getting a package. Any replies would be appreciated
I own/use:
Klipsch Cornwall II(s) - 7x of 'em
Running 7 channel ( 5[.1] with 2 enhanced/effects channels ) on a Yamaha amp.
I'm one of those - after you've heard/used good quality horns, won't ever go back.
Been running the Klipsch for like 18yrs and still haven't heard anything better for anywhere near the cost.
IMHO - I'm really amazed that audio technology quality, unlike video, really hasn't been improved upon ( not efficiencies/cost, just sound output ) since the 1940s.
Cheers.

DrPainMD 07-29-06, 08:28 AM Is there another thread like this? I could'nt find it, maybe they should make this a sticky? Or the other one?

L & R Mains: A/D/S L910 Monitors (28 years old)

Side Surrounds: Infinity QPS1
Back Surrounds: 8.5 x 12 in-wall, Brand unknown.

I've thought about replacement but I can't seem to bring myself to part with the old A/D/S's. They're like old friends. Anybody else run into that problem?

All being powered by a Denon 3805 AVR (pretty good combination, IMO).

This is a great thread, because it weeds through what people think about speakers and what they actually own. I have been looking for speakers for about 3 months (Still a month out). I have tried about 5 brands from friends (B&W, Paradigm, Martin Logan, Rocket, and Klipsh).
The one great thing that I got out of this thread, and many of us should, is that there are speakers here from A-Z (figure of Speech) listed here and everyone says how nice theirs are. Which leads me more to thing the bashing of speaker brands on other threads is not just from experience but more just to bash. I don't want to open a can of worms with this but the take away from this whole thread is e whether it is Bose, or Rocket, or Wilson, "Beauty is in the EAR of the beholder".
Reading between the lines, whether you spend $400.00 on your speaker system or $30,000 if you like it and enjoy it, who cares right.??
I got more out of this thread in the Speaker forum than all the rest combined.
Thank you, it has helped a great deal.

krikfalusi 10-12-06, 01:13 PM Just to add my .02 - my speakers are:
NHT 2.5i's - had them since 97 or so - LOVE them still. Had some trouble matching an amp when my HK AVR85 went out. I listen for music more than the ultimate in detail or transparency. Some amps sounded a bit harsh with them (e.g. NAD). Settled on a B&K Reference 4420 (200w/ch). Nice sound with enough power to drive these rather inefficient speakers.
NHT SB-3's - for the bedroom. Had these for almost a year and really like them too. A little more mellow than the 2.5i's with some surprising bass for a bookshelf.
Paradigm Atoms - for spare bedroom. Had these about 3 years. Okay but nothing great. Didn't live up to the reviews in my experience but YMMV. Certainly worth the price though.
Currently looking to add a set for the office. Probably go with NHT - maybe some SB-2's or something from the new Classic line. Just haven't heard them yet. Have heard some comments about them being a bit harsh - something I don't tolerate well. If I had a spot for them, I'd buy some NHT ST-4's - great deals on the remaining stock out there.
Cheers

Also I still own, but am not currently using, an Energy Take 5 system (actually it is now a Take 4 system since I blew out one of the satellites) and an Energy 10" subwoofer.
I'm still planning on auditioning some additional models at the one local audio boutique store I have yet to visit after already having looked at everything my local non-Magnolia BB, CC, and the other local boutique had to offer.
I am also considering upgrading my fronts by test auditioning some ACI Sapphire XLs and a Sapphire XLC or the discontinued Essence V and Essence center the ACI site is selling. I love the Ascends for movies but for 2.1 channel listening they are not blowing me away in terms of imaging and soundstage.
cschang 11-03-06, 05:05 PM I love the Ascends for movies but for 2.1 channel listening they are not blowing me away in terms of imaging and soundstage.
Remember, soundstage and imaging also have a lot to do with placement and room acoustics.
beernutz 11-03-06, 07:06 PM Remember, soundstage and imaging also have a lot to do with placement and room acoustics.
That is very true and in addition my expectations may be too high. What I'm shooting for in terms of imaging and soundstage is something close to what I have heard on a combination of Linn speakers, Macintosh amp, and Linn turntable. Don't get me wrong about the Ascends, they are easily the best speakers I've heard in their price range.
My 'ideal' system also cost many, many times what I paid for what I now have. That said, the Ascends are still far, far away from my 'ideal' in terms of imaging and soundstage. I have tried moving them around quite a bit, including setting them at the suggested .73 ratio apart and also played with their toe-in using the recommended percentages. This has, in my case, helped slightly, not dramatically and I'm still pretty far from my 'ideal' imaging and soundstage. As you said, that could be due purely or partly to room acoustics but I probably won't know that unless I audition something else in my house. That's why I'm considering testing the Sapphires.
