After a lot of adjusting, I've found one antenna (a cheap indoor one, at that) which seems to do a decent job of pulling in the main CBS/NCB/ABS/Fox networks. What I realized though is that, just as you said, indoor interference was a big issue. Immediately behind my TV is a thick (3-4") wall - but if I run the antenna around the corner and set it on the floor in the kitchen, just around the corner, it seems to work fine. Now, it's still not picking up all of the channels that TVFool suggested were available, but it seems like it'll work well enough to be able to watch the news and the occasional prime time show. pitweasel 02-19-10, 06:47 PM Well, I think I spoke too soon about decent reception. As it stands, I can almost never pull in channel 13, and channel 11 has been missing for weeks. No matter where I put the antenna (or which antenna I try), I absolutely cannot get that station anymore. This is absolutely maddening, especially now that I can't watch a second of the Olympics. Jim5506 03-24-10, 11:27 PM I just noticed that KAMC (28) is broadcasting their local news with a custom bar on each side of their SD picture in the 720p frame, not just grey or black pillars. It looks like they are superimposing their SD broadcase inside a 720p picture that is an aerial shot of Lubbock with lettering on it saying First Local...Live...KAMC in blue and white tones.. Perhaps they are getting ready to go to an HD news cast?? Many of their commercials during the news are HD. HMMM... The sports doesn't have the blue bars with lettering in it. Now they're back after the sports. The owners of FOX 34 and NBC 11 stations seem more likely to invest $$ in new technology. Of course, all of the DFW Metroplex locals have broadcsat local news in HD for years. (But as the number 4 (Top Ten) national TV market, they are required to do so. Kothoga 05-24-10, 10:12 AM Anyone having issues getting PBS 5.1 to come in? It started about a week ago, OTA has issues with skipping and my Dish DVR can't even receive it. My son is missing his Sesame Street and Word World in HD. Jim5506 06-19-10, 02:58 PM I'm not sure how long it's been up but we have a new OTA HD channel in Lubbock. Channel 51.1 is now HD broadcasting Univision Network. Lubbock now has 8 digital channels with HD content (ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, PBS, CW, MY and UNI). odbrv 06-20-10, 10:52 AM I'm not sure how long it's been up but we have a new OTA HD channel in Lubbock. I cannot get PBS,CW, MY, and UNI at Ransom Canyon. Jim5506 06-22-10, 01:39 AM I live near 28th and Chicago, on the north west side of Lubbock and all the stations come in in the upper 90's or even at 100 on my signal meter, but I am using an early model CM4228 antenna. I believe 51.1 actually is broadcasting on frequency channel 10. Trip in VA 06-22-10, 02:01 AM I believe 51.1 actually is broadcasting on frequency channel 10. It was, but moved to 51 at some point. - Trip Jim5506 06-24-10, 07:44 PM I see that analog channel 14 KMYL LP is going dark June 30. Jim5506 08-05-10, 03:09 PM HMMM... no new posts in over a month. I'v noticed that 34-2 is broadcasting Texas Rangers Baseball every Friday, in 480i 16X9, not a bad picture, too bad they can't get it up in 720p. If they can do two 720p and one 480i on 43-1-2-3, KJTV could put up 720p on 34-2. Well then hopefully Directv will agree to add it, especially being in Texas collven 12-17-10, 01:21 AM I know there aren't many Suddenlink users on here, but they have rolled out their Tivo Premiere service. More info here: www.suddenlink.com/tivo . It's the same price as their regular DVR service and, if the CSR I spoke to is correct, you don't have to pay for Premiere service from TIVO, it's included. I'm at work now, so didn't get much of a chance to mess with it. It's a $25 install fee and $30 activation fee, but that includes the TIVO wireless G adapter. I didn't ask if the $30 fee still applies if you already have an adapter, but I'm pretty sure it does. It looks like the standard TIVO premiere box, but with the Suddenlink logo on the front of it. I wasn't able to activate it at tivo.com before I left, so I haven't gotten to try the remote programming functions. Jim5506 03-23-11, 11:58 PM Last one out turn off the light. odbrv 03-26-11, 01:50 PM I noticed that Suddenlink can carry ESPN sports events of their choice. For example, they showed Oklahoma vs Miami in NCAAW basketball. Yet Dish network was required to carry the national feed of Georgetown vs Maryland. They did have Oklahoma vs Miami on their alternate feeds. But that was blacked out outside Oklahoma and Florida. So everyone in Texas who had cable got a BIG12 game. Anyone with Dish got the national feed. Whoever negotiates the blackout package for Dish is really being taken advantage of. Blackouts in sports should not be by team state but by conference states. Following the Oklahoma game were 2 BIG12 conference games with Texas teams( Texas A&M and Baylor). I was able to get those games on alternate feeds. However, every other BIG12 state( Oklahoma, Kansas ,Iowa, Nebraska, and Colorado got the national feed only. I bet their local cable stations chose the BIG12 game and were allowed to broadcast them. Jim5506 04-07-11, 11:17 PM KCBD is advertising that they will soon be doing local news in HD. I just noticed that their remote recordings are already 16X9 or occasionally a 16X9 picture squished into an anamorphic 4X3 window. No official word on the time line - hope it's "soon", but not Dish Network soon. KCBD reveals new News set on Monday, hopefullythat includes HD broadcast, too! odbrv 04-08-11, 01:58 PM ...........but not Dish Network soon. From what I read on Satellite Guys Dish has been given the right back to have distant locals in underserved markets. Does that mean they could offer distant HD in Lubbock where they have no HD and their competition Directtv does. Jim5506 04-09-11, 12:07 PM Dish carries all the local channels in SD, therefore we are not "underserved". Underserved, I believe, is those markets that do not have one of the big 4 networks at all. In that case Dish can import a signal from a neighboring DMA. I believe the law requires satellite providers by a certain date to carry all HD signals in a DMA if they carry any. Since Dish may not have the capacity to carry ALL Lubbock HD channels, they choose to carry NONE and thus avoid that requirement. The hope is that they are cleaning up the 61.5 orbital and there may be room for our 11 HD locals to be carried there. Trip in VA 04-09-11, 12:20 PM I'd love to have some of that delicious TSReader data. :D - Trip Jim5506 04-09-11, 12:27 PM You can essentially get distant locals here by "moving" your service address to someplace in the Dallas DMA and leaving your mailing address here in Lubbock, that is if you have a wing dish looking at 61.5. Dallas locals are on a spot beam off 61.5 that hits Lubbock with a reasonably strong signal. I have considered "moving" to Jermyn, a small town just inside the western edge of the Dallas DMA on Texas 114 in Jack county, but haven't. Jim5506 04-10-11, 11:46 PM KCBD is now broadcasting local news in HD. Plastic surgeons in the area celebrate! thelucky1 04-27-11, 04:15 PM Is anyone having any problems receiving the Lubbock Ramar channels OTA via Directv's receiver or AM21? 22-1 CW 22-2 MyNetworkTV 22-3 Telemundo 34-1 Fox 34-2 Jim5506 06-15-11, 08:06 PM Anybody home? Jason_J 06-16-11, 07:02 PM Anybody home? Nope. At work. odbrv 06-17-11, 04:00 PM Still waiting for Dish to get HD locals and some 3D programming. Jim5506 06-24-11, 09:53 PM There is no Western Arc spotbeam that satisfactorily covers the Lubbock DMA except for the one on 110 that we get our SD locals with. Perhaps they will use one of those, but several spots off 61.5 do paint the area easily. I don't look for us to get HD locals any time soon because Dish has a deadline to fully populate those that it already has up. If they add another DMA to the list of full HD required it further squeezes their limited bandwidth. I realize there are folks in Ransom Canyon and further out that have trouble getting all the channels OTA, but not only is the hardware not there, the impetus is absent also. thelucky1 10-07-11, 10:00 PM Me TV coming to Lubbock on Jan 1 channel 33.1! Jim5506 12-31-11, 03:01 PM MeTV is now up on channel 32.1 on my Avervision USB tuner on my PC and on my Dish receiver it is on channel 48.1. Their logo says it is channel 33.1 I believe it is on real channel 33.3. Don't you just love virtual channels. odbrv 01-01-12, 12:33 PM MeTV is now up .... on my Dish receiver it is on channel 48.1. Their logo says it is channel 33.1 .... Thanks JIM. To get it on Dish's 722 I went to the menu to local channels (6-9). Then selected add locals. I put 33 in transmit # and it gave me channel # 48. It is now on my guide as 48-01. I also edited the name to METV. It wanted to give me FOX34N. I only get a signal strength of 67 with an indoor antenna. About the same as what i get for channel 5. I get better than 85 for most other channels. I also noticed my changing the name to METV also changed the name of 32-01. I also discover I have a 28-02 BOUNCE. What is this??? Playing Fat Albert right now. Looks like I might have to tell the AJ to start re-delivering a TV guide. The Dish guide only says digital channel. Jim5506 01-27-12, 01:03 AM Not even TiVO has guide for METV yet. I haven't looked at TitanTV to see if they have picked it up. The stations have to submit the data to Tribune Media for it to be available, then the carrier has to include it. Bounce (28-2) is a black oriented programming network. odbrv 01-27-12, 02:43 PM I found a weekly guide for METV online. It says what is on this hour but not the episode details. Bounce tv has an online schedule with more detail , but no weekly one. I tried an outside antenna and I guess I need a rotor. When I optimized for PBS, I get channel 11 great. However, METV is lost. To get METV channel 5 gets lost. This happens thru the Dish receivers. I kept one of the indoor antennas and connected it to the TV directly and it gets all the channels with a little moving around. I just cannot record them with the Dish DVR. |
