I watched Bullit last night for the first time (SE DVD). It was pretty good but I can't say I loved it. I was amazed at how little dialougue there was, which was ok. I did love the dashboard camera angles on "the" car chase scene.

Last night the girls were all watching ice skating, so I watched The Cincinnati Kid (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059037/?fr=c2l0ZT1kZnx0dD0xfGZiPXV8cG49MHxrdz0xfHE9Y2luY2luYXR0aSBr aWR8ZnQ9MXxteD0yMHxsbT01MDB8Y289MXxodG1sPTF8bm09MQ__;fc=1;ft =23;fm=1).

Great movie and what a cast!

My wife and I watched Kung Fu Hustle. I did not think she'd like it, but she did. It was a bit goofy, but there were some really, really, funny scenes and we did not feel like we wasted our time.

Sat down last night, had some Mega-pop, and watched Doom.

Not bad. Very much like Resident Evil. Some of the acting from supporting cast members was weak , but Hey, it's an action/horror film.

Not jump out of your seat scary, but very entertaining nonetheless.

Loved the first person view during one of the scenes. Brings back a lot of computer gaming memories.

Overall, a very good video game inspired movie. I would recommend it to anyone that likes those types of movies.

Surprisingly, my wife liked it also.

Watched Timecop 2. I didn't know they'd made a second one.
Evil Time Traveler: You have a smile like my wife.
Hooker (disapointed): So you're married.
Evil Time Traveler: Oh, she died a few years ago.
Hooker (excited): Oh, I'm sorry.
Evil Time Traveler: Don't be. She'll be back soon.

Last night we watched "Into the Blue." Decent flick (3.5stars) ... Did anyone else notice notice how Jessica Alba's swimsuit always seemed to ride high just when her backside was crossing center screen? I tried to hide the smile but my wife could see the smirk forming at the corners of my mouth. I said I was admiring the color saturation and the pop of the reef scenes but she knew better.

Last week I picked Lord of War. Thought it was pretty good.

This week, wife got to pick a movie that has GOT to be one of the top two WORST movies EVER. Right there with Showgirls bad....

One Last Dance...the one with Patrick Swayze. The dancing is OK, the dialogue is terrible and the acting is even worse. When it was done, even the wife was pretty disapointed, and she loves Patrick Swayze. Basically, I wasted an hour and half of my bulb's life.

HEY! That sounds like a pretty good title for a movie..."A BULB'S LIFE!" Oh, wait...nevermid.

Lord of War - 3.5 out of 5...I like Nick Cage, entertaining.
Constant Gardener - 4 out of 5... Good flick, interesting topic.

My roommate and I went for a double-header at the theater last night...first up was Chapelle's Block Party. Incredibly fun and up-lifting movie. I loved every minute of it. A great mix of comedy and huge musical talent. The movie follows Dave Chapelle as he organizes and sets up a impromptu concert in Brooklyn, NY. He goes back to his hometown in Ohio and randomly invites people on the street. He also goes to one college and invites an entire marching bound of incredibly excited students who then play a magically renedition of Jesus Walks with Kayne West. Honestly, this was probably one of the most fun movie's I've ever seen. Totally made me want to be at the concert (which took place in September of 04. If you're looking for a fun and musical movie to watch, go see this.

Now to the bad.....the second movie was saw was Ultraviolet. And wow, its unimaginely bad. The script, the acting, the action, the fight scenes, they're all worse than horrible. And don't get me wrong, I loved Wimmer's Equilibruim, I thought it was a fresh-take on an old concept, but he unforunately cannot revive what was special in Ultraviolet. The movie literally had me at a loss of words and I still don't know how to explain how bad it was. Its current score of 5% on Rottentomatoes is INCREDIBLY fitting. Its THAT BAD. Honestly, do NOT WASTE THE MONEY ON THIS MOVIE. Funnily enough, the movie theater we saw it in was probably only twice the size of my home theater. The screen might have been no more than 220" diagonal screen...total waste of money.

Block Party: A++++
Ultraviolet: Z----------------------------------------

Watched Broken Flowers last night. It won Grand Prix at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival. I thought it was a very entertaining study of an aging bachelor (Bill Murray) coming to grips with his Don Juan ways. He gets an anonymous pink letter advising him he has a 20 yr old son which sets him on a search and back into the lives of four old girlfriends. If you prefer typical Hollywood endings then you won't like the lack of closure but I thought it was a refreshing thinking man's movie. Excellent acting and Sharon Stone was terrific.

Also saw Constant Gardener and thought Ralph Fiennes should have been nominated for best actor.

Walk the Line on Saturday. Very good movie. DTS track sounds great. The music in this movie sounds incredible. Acting by the leads was stellar. 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Domino last night. I liked it. Kiera Knightly is stunning. DTS-ES sound was not as good as I had hoped. Good bass, dialog was crystal clear, but I would have liked a little more activity on the surrounds. Granted I had to watch this movie at a somewhat subdued level do to the content. 3 out of 5 stars.

Attempted to watch "The Ice Harvest" with Billy Bob Thorton and John Cusack. I say attempted because after 30 minutes the wife and I had to turn it off. What a poor attempt at a movie. Watched King Kong 1933 Fay Wray (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000AY3KNA). It's amazing how much this director and story did so right. My 13 year old daughter had never seen it, and even being a fan of movies like "The Grudge" and "The Ring" she wanted to stop half way through. We talked her into watching the rest, but it was tough! Hitchcock was the master of suspense. Who needs gore?

When my wife and I lived in Orlando we took a drive over to the coast to watch one of the workhorse launches, man most awe inspiring thing I ever saw. From a couple miles away it rocked the ground like an earth quake. Shuttle launches you could see from orlando, would light up the night sky, and if the wind was right you could hear it. Best was when the shuttle was comming back to land. You would hear the sonic boom, then have time to turn on the tv to catch it before it landed.

Anyone else experience this?

This weekend the wife and daughter were away so I got to watch a lot of stuff.

Friday night I watched the Doors which blew me away with some of the concert scenes.

Hitchhiker's Guide - great movie, clever soundtrack, a re-watch post-sub install, some nice stuff.

40 YO Virgin - bleh, it was just o.k....after all the hype. I hate date movies.

Land of the Dead - "Sky Flowers!" felt like being at a 4th of July fireworks show.

Psychomania - 1971 psychedelic Brit biker trash film, witches, Triumphs, amusing but only if you like these oddball oldies

Love and a .45 - Fun if you like violence, extra points for central characters named "Creepy and Bob".

Finally saw Blade: Trinity (Unrated).

Bleh. No wonder it was critically panned. Too much comic-relief and not
enough seriousness, IMO. Listening to your iPod while kickin' butt is just
about as dangerous as listening to one while driving. I was personally
scared more by the 1931 Dracula than the pretender here passed off as
him. I think Wes needed a new Bentley and didn't even bother to read the
script. Most trilogies have one weak episode and this was the one for Blade.

Saw II - My wife and I watched it snuggled up on the couch. I became pretty wrapped up in the story. It had a Dolby EX soundtrack but I couldn't tell you whether the sound was good or bad. Too busy watching the movie. I've been cataching up on some anime (Japanese animation) lately. First I watched the new Disney release of My Neighbor Totoro w/ Japanese dialog and English subtitles. Totoro is one of my favorite anime movies, and I never did like the previous Fox English-only dub (watch movies in their original language I always say). Anyway, the movie was, of course, excellent although I did listen to a little of their dub, and it was quite bad (as should be expected). Great children's film that parents can enjoy too. Five stars.

I then watched Miyazaki's latest - "Howl's Moving Castle", also distributed by Disney. Definitely a film for older kids & adults with deeper plot elements and "scary" sections (like Spirited Away). There are some plot gaps, but it was still an excellent movie and it makes you realize that Japanese animation is way ahead of everyone else. It is a movie, that just happens to be animated, rather than the typical "kids" animation that Disney, Pixar, and Dreamworks puts out. Four stars.

Coming up next: "Wallace & Grommit in the Curse of the Were-Rabbit" and "Corpse Bride."

That film premiered the same night as "Walk the Line" so I missed it at the Toronto Film Festival last year. The people who saw it really liked it and gave Cronenberg a long standing ovation.

Dude, you admitted to that?

Watched Ice Harvest. dull.

Watched Learning Curve (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000B3FCC), and really enjoyed it. It's not for everyone. It contains pretty much everything you're supposed to keep your kids away from, in both senses of the concept. The amazon review says it's missing about 30 minutes, however the DVD has about 20 minutes of Deleted Scenes most of which help the story and explain a couple of things you might miss in the main movie.

Continuing on my animation theme, I watched two stop motion animation movies: Wallace & Grommit - Curse of the Were-Rabbit and Corpse Bride. Both good movies: Wallace & Grommit as good as ever and Corpse Bridge as Tim Burton as ever. Probably more enjoyable for fans of the Wallace & Grommit shorts and Nightmare before Christmas respectively than the general popcorn munching Summer Blockbuster watching public, but you have to appreciate the pain-stackingly slow hard work that goes into these movies in this day of CGI everything.

Watched eXistenZ Wed night and Underworld SB lastnight.

eXistenZ absolutely sucked, I can't believe how bad it was. I fell asleep and I NEVER fall asleep during movies. I can't even write anything more about it.

Now Underworld SB was another story. The picture looked great, especially considering it is a very dark movie. I'd seen it once before on a bootleg version i downloaded on my laptop back when it was in the theaters and had forgotten that it was actually pretty good.

i'm with you on Brokeback Mountain. Really liked it, though the story was a bit of a bummer. the acting and images were great.

come on guys, watching it doesn't make you gay! if you avoid this one because of the content you're going to miss one of the best movies of the year and two great performances (actually three, becuase Michelle Williams performance was pretty dang spectacular too).

Well, it felt good to watch a movie on my system for the first time in several weeks. This is due to my busy spring travel schedule.

Tonight I watched Derailed which I recall didn't last to long in the theaters but got pretty good reviews. I thought the movie took awhile to develop. Once things got going and they revealed and interesting "twist", I was hooked. It is well worth the rent.

This was the first Clive Owen movie I have seen and I found him enjoyable to watch. I am going to try and see Inside Man this week when I am out of town on business because I have heard he does good job in that movie.

I watched Dead Man last night, having picked it up in the bargin bin. Hard to describe just how I felt about this movie. I mean I liked it, but I am not sure I actually "get it". Perhaps it is one that you have to watch several time. Without giving away too much of the plot, I will say that I am still not sure at what point William Blake actually became a "dead man". This one goes on the shelf, and I will pull it out again at some point and watch it again to see if I am further enlightened. The sound track was sort of eerie, but perhaps because I am fan of Neil Young, it worked well for me. There are some great lines in this movie, even though there are also a lot that went right over my head.

Over the weekend I watched a couple of the Busby Berkely musicals. After enjoying 42nd Street I decided to buy the box set. Footlight Parade with James Cagney, Dames and Gold Diggers of 1933 were fun in that the dance routines were just incredibly well done. Dames ,however, was weak overall and the script was just a lead up to the ending routines. I was ,however, pleased at how clean these transfers looked so it was time I enjoyed.

If you have any affinity for older films watch 42nd Street. Each of these is only about an hour and a half.

My daughter and I watched The Chronicles of Narnia yesterday. It's pretty good and I enjoyed it for the most part but I found it to be exclusively targeted at kids. Disney and Pixar seem to know how to take what is a "kids movie" and make it an everyone movie. Narnia doesn't have that. Picture and sound (DTS) are good. There is good bass and surround activity. 3 out of 5 stars.

We watched Narnia as the inaugeral event since I installed the new riser, buttkickers, theater recliners and new amplifier. The DTS soundtrack is good and the quality of the story is really good. I read the book a long time ago and it was done really well on screen. The references to christianity are pretty neat and expected. The difference sound treatments made in the room is noticeable. I have to crank the amp a couple more notches for the same level though. I would say it is a 4/5

Tonight my wife and I watched "The Masters of Horror" -Tales from the witch house or something like that...based on reviews I thought it might be witty, scary and well produced. Other than some nods to Bruce Cambell and Sam Raimi, there wasn't much redeeming about this dvd. This movie was just lame, not enough camp, not scarey, not interesting, and to top it off, pointless gratuitous violence on a baby - this went over particularily well with my wife (we're new parents) Take heed of this warning, and avoid this dvd. I keep forgetting to post about "Downfall". It's a simply amazing movie about Hitler's last days in his bunker. The surround sound is wonderful (with muffled bombs going off overhead so you feel like you are actually in the bunker) and the acting is even better. Not a happy movie by any means, and with some really disturbing scenes, but one of the best movies I have seen in a long time.

And for those of you with kids, check out Disney's "Atlantis" and "Treaure Planet" if you have not already done so. I was surprised to find them both very entertaining (especially the script in "Atlantis", written in part by the creator of "Serenity").

The title of this thread hadn't interested me enough to look in here until this morning. I read back through a half hours worth of posts. This is a great source for picking out some good watches. It is also a great way to keep from feeling wierd about watching too many movies. :) I'll try and make this one of my daily stops.

I'll start by recommending "I am David". We watched this on Sunday night. It's about a 12 year old boy that flees a communist concentration camp, with only a loaf of bread. Touching movie. The pace was at times a little long and slow, but necessary to set the pace for his journey. The video quality was stunning, as I find to be a common thread in Lion's Gate Films.

Will be watching "Taxi Driver" for the first time tonight.

Watched "November" last night one of the better independent Indie psychological thrillers I've seen. Courteney Cox does a fine job as a photographer whose boyfriend is murdered in a store robbery. This film noire cycles through the five stages of coping with death: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance before the surprising twist ending. Some disturbing visual images and jarring sound effects blur what is real and what is imagined. Recommended.

Watched Fun With Dick and Jane (2005) last night while wiring up a pair of new surrounds. I liked it even though it was a barely above average movie. I noticed some obvious macroblocking on the walls of their dining room. The player, HTPC with Theater Tek 2.3 is not known for enhancing MB so it was pretty bad that it was that obvious. Sound was good. Not a big sound effects movie. Surround activity sounded good on the new speaks. 3 out of 5 stars.

I sat down and watched Steven Seagal's latest direct to video masterpiece, Mercenary For Justice. It seems like he has been putting these out every 4 months. Anyways this one was pretty decent. The picture quality and surround effects were definitely above average. Seagal did about 95% of his own dialog and most of his stunts(he only had 3 or 4 one on one fight sequences) This reminded me of some of the 80's Chuck Norris movies because it seemed like nobody ever had to reload....

I would give this 3.5 / 5 stars and definitely worth picking up as a renter...

It was 1944 Ingred Bergman, Charles Boyer and Joseph Cotten. Not for everyone but a good film IMO.

Reminds me of a time, years ago, when I was in a theater watching "Thelma and Louise". When it got the the rape scene, I heard a scream and a woman leapt from her seat, dove over several seated movie watchers, and literally sprinted up the isle and out of the theater. Must have hit too close to home.

Watched a few movies over the weekend.

Waiting...: Funny, stupid, etc. Overall not too much above average. 2.5 out of 5 stars.

Crash: Pretty good movie. I started out thinking this movie was just too racist. It's just as over the top in it's own way as some action movies, but the more I watched it the more I got into it. I now think it goes to extremes to intentionally illustrate it's point. I think I liked it a little more than my wife. We watched it as a transport stream on a HTPC originally recorded from Showtime-HD. Picture quality was good, sound was ok. 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Apollo 13 (HD-DVD): I've always liked this movie. I like it even better on HD-DVD. Picture quality was spectacular. Certainly one of the best I've seen on my display. Sound was good, high quality, but nothing special. 3.5 out of 5 stars.

On Saturday the family watched Napoleon Dynamite - pretty entertaining in a dry humor sort of way. Characters are on the mark in capturing high school drama.

Saturday evening was a viewing of Kong with several friends - I liked the picture and for me the time flew by as I usually don't make it past 11 pm. Sure some of the scenes could have been shortened but I think each of the scenes had merit. There was a good deal of suspense, which added to my interest.

On Sunday, I watch most of House of Fying Daggers, not bad. Great cinematography decent yet not quite believable story. I bailed out on it to watch the last quarter of the Kings/Spurs game. Ill finish it off tonight

jandawil, I've got the outlaw 950 and 7100 amp. I upgraded from a Yamaha
RXV-750 hooked to an older Carver amp. The sound of separates greatly surpasses the Yamaha by itself and the features on the outlaw (most notably variable low frequency cut off for the speakers run in small mode) are very nice.

So for ~ 1500 you can get separates of decent quality which, for me, will sound better than a 1500 dollar receiver

I just bought the Yamaha RX-V2600 and am running it with a Crown Pro Amp running my front LR and using the receiver to power my surrounds and like the sound very much. Separates have always intrigued me and I like the Outlaws ability to set different crossover frequencies for mains, center, and surrounds. That is huge!! One day I hope to go that route. I had the room all cleared out - then found out that with all of the PTA and furniture market conflicts, we were going to be a group of 5. So the chairs went back in! I was barely going to make it with the soccer chairs and bean bags...

Other than my husband and son's backs giving out (those motorized Berks are HEAVY!) we now have a VERY clean carpet under/behind the Berklines

The ladies were amazed. No one had seen my room before. They thought I was going to play a movie on a big screen TV and call it a home theater. Last night my friends were over to screen Casshern, a live action scifi anime in the vein of Sky Captain/Sin City. Absolutely stunning visuals-although the transfer at times appeared soft, the live action/greenscreen material was seemless, it made it very easy to suspend any disbelief. Great soundtrack - with classical and some heavy guitar tracks and a very active LFE......and like alot of anime pretty hard to make sense of, unless you're Japanese. It's got Japanese and Thai soundtracks, but English subtitles are available. Highly reccomended if you're looking for some off the beaten path eye candy.

Saw '..Dick & Jane..'. I love Jim Carrey, so I think that is why I enjoyed it so much. I particularly like when the lawn gets re-posessed(sp?). Sound and Pic weren't that great, but I didn't care since I was after the humor.

The Wife & I liked 'Hoodwinked', even though it's not as funny as the Pixar movies. I liked the twist to the fairy tale stories. Just the sound of Patrick Warburton cracks me up. Sound effects weren't that great, but the visuals and animation details were impressive.

I liked 'Serenity' for something different, but it appeared they were trying to give it the 'Mummy' humor and edge and it really didn't work for them. I enjoyed the special effects, visuals.

The animation and details in Narnia were amazing. The story brought back a lot of memories from reading the books as a kid, but I didn't enjoy it as much as a grown-up. For some reason I kept analyzing it too much, which was a habit I broke, but something about the plot brought it out in me again...

Finally got around to watching "Downfall". Long and slow, but very powerful. Great acting job by the fellow that played Hitler.

It is based on a book written by his actual secretary. It gives an inside look at life during the last 12 days in the Berlin bunker.

Pam, I'm near the airport, south of Blue Ridge. If you ever come back this way, let me know.

I thought "Downfall" was a completely engrossing movie. Bruno Ganz's performance was nothing short of brilliant. Even looking at IMDB.com it was the 41st ranked movie of all time. Very high score.....

I watched "the Family Stone" this morning with my wife and daughter. What a disjointed plot... I can buy into over the top plots sometimes but to see the relationship confusion here just completely turned me off.

Downfall was one of the better films of 2004. Certainly one of the best war movies ever made. Bruno Ganz' performance was brilliant indeed, amongst several great roles in that flick. The soundrack was excellent as well. The constant Russian bombardment of Berlin via the LFE channel transformed my HT into the bunker.

Saw Weatherman last night and it was an utter waste of time. Bad plot, billed as a comedy when it wasn't. Even Michael Caine couldn't save this one. Two thumbs down would be generous.

Last night watched the new Delux Edition of Moonstruck (Mother's Day present). This was the first time I had seen this movie and thought it was a really good romantic comedy espeically if you're Italian or know someone who is. My wife being Italian had already seen it. :p The picture was excellent however the sound was quesitonable in parts but mostly good. It has some really good bonus material if you like to cook Italian food!

Maybe I didn't come across correctly above, but I'm in agreement with the posts regarding "Downfall". :) The long and slow comment was probably because I started it at around 10pm and didn't finish until 1am with toothpicks in my eyes. :)

Found myself alone at the house last night, so I pulled out "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow."

Very visually interesting, but didn't find myself drawn into the world - perhaps a bit too much faithfulness to the 1930's movie serial. But then again, Raiders of the Lost Art is near perfection doing the same thing, as is the Star Wars (screw the Episode IV business).

Must agree 100%. I didn't need a think man's war movie.....Come to think of it the movies I have seen in the 3 weeks or so through Blockuster have sucked...

Domino was OK.
The Family Stone sucked.
Chicken Little was boring (Although my 12 year old liked it)
Serenity - I expected way too much - I guess I will never be a Science fiction fan :(

I did like Good night, Good luck. Great period type piece.

Holy cow what a buzy two weeks.

MI3. Not bad, action packed, liked it better than Number 2.
Posieden: Much much better than I expected. Definitely worth the price of admission.
An American Haunting: I liked it, but I'm a bit biased since I use to work for the company that made it, and remember the day we optioned the book.
Serenity: Liked it a lot. Much much better than I expected. Want to rent the series now.
Dark Water. Bleh... boring and not scary.
Aeon Flux: Eh.... okay I guess.... some fun sequences....but that's about it.
The Ringer: Cute and funny. Not hilarious, but funny. I didn't have Johnny Knoxville in this one.
Crash: Damn good movie, and I completely agree with it winning the Oscar for best picture.

I got to watch more movies being out of town this past 2 weeks and I had the prior month. Only draw back with the DVD's was watching them on my laptop.

Couldn't get past the first 30 mins of Serenity (thought the acting was bad), but the strong following here and other threads makes me wanna give the movie another chance. Maybe I just didn't understand/know the characters like you mentioned.

Watched King Kong last night. I liked it, wife thought it was lame, but she doesn't like any movie that is not realistic. It could have been shorter though for sure. The dinosaur chase was way too long as was the fight with the T-Rex's. The scenes in 1930's NY were awesome and I thought the video transfer of the DVD was excellent, one of the best I have watched so far. Naomi Watts is absolutely stunning to look at so that doesn't hurt.

Watched Rumor Has It... with the wife Friday night. Not a very good movie. Average at best. Wife thought it was, "Cute."

Tried to watch The New World several times this weekend and couldn't get all the way through. I really wanted this movie to be good as I dig historical fiction pieces almost as much as war movies. This is the final confirmation that Terrence Malick movies and I are completely incompatible. Why people continue to give that guy money to make movies baffles me. His movies consistently continue to be the biggest budget stink bombs I've ever seen. As with the Thin Red Line, acting and cinematography are good but writing and movie making are dismal. 1 out of 5 stars.

Watched a cropped HD version of Independence Day recorded from HBO HD or something. Not a great movie. Popcorn fair to be sure. Bill Pullam is horribly cast and does a terrible job. And yet, ID4 is infinitely more entertaining than The New World.

1.78? Really. I was told Kubrick insisted on shooting full frame and that any "widescreen" version wasn't true to his plans.

Tony,
If you didn't like the movie don't bother with the series. I personally loved the movie and it had me go back and TiVo all the Firefly episodes. Really hit or miss with the series but I thought Serenity was the best Sci-Fi movie in ages.

Watched Shawshank, 5th Element, and Brothers Grimm Sunday. Played tennis for hours in the grueling sun and just crashed in front of the TV. Shawshank is an all-time fav, 5th Element was on TNT HD and is a fun little romp if you are in the mood. Brothers Grimm was all my mom and brother could agree on. Substandard. Haven't seen a big budget disaster like that in a while. Needed a rewrite in a bad way.

My friend and I watched Firefly from the beginning to the end, and then finished with Serenity (over the course of a week). Awesome series, for sure. Also, as others did for me in recommending series vs movie first, I'll put my recommendation out there. The pilot episode in the series does an excellent job of establishing the characters and storyline, and the movie has sort of a concluding plot (fits better after the movie). Finished watching "Superman: The Movie" after that, next I'm moving onto "Superman II" tonight. Getting ready for next Tuesday's advanced screening of "Superman Returns."
You mean your not going to watch superman III or IV? :D

I have seen about 8 movies in the last 3 weeks but I will comment on the one I saw last night. Traffic is one of my all time favorites. I loved the story. Just superb. As I started watching Syriana last night it gave me chills the story made me almost wet myself in enjoyment. I had to rewind it about 5 times in the first hour. (Let me see what is he doing and how does he fit in). I won't go on and on. If you like Traffic give this movie a chance. I have seen about 130 movies in the last 18 months and I have a rating scale and this is probably only one of 3 movies I will give a 10.

After reading numerous positive reviews on it, my wife and I watched "Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang" last night. I thought it was hilarious and well done, especially the commentary! This is definitely a black comedy...:)

I would recommend picking this up...

In preparation for Superman Returns, we watched then 1978 Superman.

The Donner film has some great moments and the terrific performance from Reeves, but the general goofiness doesn't age as well.

Looking forward to the new film!

I just wrapped up Running Scared with Paul Walker. I was pleasantly surprised how well Paul Walker did acting in this one. It was one of the most violent movies I have seen in quite awhile.. The ending is fantastic!

I was also very impressed with the DTS-ES soundtrack. I had to play this one at lower volume that most movies...

Last night I watched "The Cave". Mildly entertaining, but on a rating from 1 to 5 stars, I would rate this movie only 2.5 stars. I would consider 3 stars an average movie and may be worth owning. Anything below 3 stars, then it would only be worth renting and watching if you have nothing better going on in your life at the moment!

I usually rent movies from Netflix and rip them to my media server and then watch them when I get the time. If it has a rating by others of less then 3 stars, then I will watch it when I have nothing better to do, but if it is a higher rated movie and turns out to be something I want to own, I will then purchase the movie to add to my library.

“The Cave” is one of those one time viewing movies that you watch once and then are glad to delete it from you hard drive to make room for something better.

This weekend finally got around to watching Mr. and Mrs. Smith.....entertaining but not going to get a second viewing. The audio/surrounds was fantastic though.
Last night was Underworld: Evolution.... really loved this one. Both audio and video were amazing. Really hope they do a third.

Now, the new one takes place after Superman 2, so you may want to brush up on this one, as well.

I agree with the goofiness aspect you mentioned, and the second one has the same tongue-in-cheek humor. Glad to see that comic-book-based movies are getting away from that trend. Sadly, it took Joel Schumaker completely bastardizing the Batman franchise for people to realize that that campy doesn't work (hope the folk responsible for Fantastic Four 2 are reading this).

Anyway, I have my ticket for the Tuesday evening advanced screening of Superman Returns (have had that in my wallet for over a week now...I know, pathetic). :D

Watched Kingdom of Heaven (4 Disc Directors Cut) last Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday night. I didn't watch it 3 times - it took three days to watch! Not a bad movie but not great. Lots of graphic violence and only a few great lines.

I watched The Interpreter last night and thought it was pretty good, although a little slow. They made good use of surrounds for a drama I thought, but I thought the video transfer on this DVD was terrible. It's the worst one I have seen yet of the newer movies. There was a sort of halo effect around the credits as well as the buildings when you saw the skyline of NY City. All in all a noisy picture. Anyone also notice this on this movie or any others. I thought it was my PJ for a sec, but HDTV looked fantastic as did other DVD's.

Watched 1999's "Happy Accidents". It's a romantic comedy with a twist. Better than average.

Also, "My Date with Drew". A little slow for me, but the last 20 minutes and the bonus features pushed it into 3 of 5 stars.

The wife and I watched The Ringer on DVD last night. It's cute but no big laughs. 2.5 out of 5 stars. Not bad but not really something to recommend.

I didn't pay very much attention to the sound and picture but I didn't notice anything that really stood out good or bad. Dialog was crystal clear. Virtually no deep bass or surround activity.

We just wrapped up a mini Superman marathon to get ready for Superman Returns. My wife also prefers the 2nd one.

Now we must decide if we want to see it on the DLP screen or in the IMAX??

OK, my new theater is finally in (somewhat) working order so I'm starting to crank thru Netflix again. Here's what I watched this week:

Count of Monte Cristo: This is an entertaining movie that I'd probably watch again, but man is the transfer horrible. PQ was pretty poor. Some of this may be because most of the movie is pretty dark for my Z3. The soundtrack didn't have much in the way of surround or LFE, so nothing too exciting to show off there.

Superman: Again not the best PQ, but sound was pretty good. The beginning scene that takes place in Krypton where everyone's clothing seems to glow looked pretty bad on my setup. I need to go back and watch it on a CRT or rear projection unit to see if it looked as washed out as I saw it. Also, a good movie, but not as good as I remembered.

Matrix Revolutions: I actually didn't see this until now due to the poor reviews. finally decided it'd be nice to see how it all ended. The first half was slow, but the rest was moderately entertaining. It also looked and sounded fantastic.

Rainy 4th in our neck of the woods, so movie time!

Apparently there was some law that I was not aware of, requiring us to watch a movie featuring Jimmy Cagney. So this year, we watched "Ragtime". A good, not great movie with a very interesting cast.

Started watching Deadwood the HBO series. I rented the first disc of the first season, and watched the pilot episode.

Last night we watched Prime with Uma Thurman and Meryl Streep . Not bad but definitely a chick flic. My wife enjoyed it. There a were a couple of funny moments. Also watched The Italian Job (the new one). I love that movie!! The opening heist scene is awesome as was the ending with the Mini Coopers racing around. I'd like to see another The ______ Job with that same cast although it would be tough to write Ed Norton's character into it after the Ukrainian's got through with him......

We tried to watch "The Hills Have Eyes", but after 20 minutes we had to turn this movie off. I enjoy horror movies but their was some VERY disturbing and graphic scenes that made me not want to watch this movie. I know it was Unrated, but I wasn't expecting it to be as bad as it was...

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS MOVIE TO ANYBODY UNDER THE AGE OF 18!!!

IMO, it is a waste of time.

awesomely brutal movie...all horror movies should have the guts to go this far...and nothing happened until at least an hour into it...so unless you were spooked by the great atmosphere and music, you watched more than 20 minutes

haha thats what I figured...yeah it doesn't get any less brutal...the camper scene was particularly brutal though...what I liked about it was it was a true horror movie. Even though it was remake, it was well done and wasn't just bouncy blondes running around a resort before getting slashed up...it was scary and it bloody...

Last night I picked up "Edison Force". This was probably the best cast for a direct to video release I have ever seen. Morgan Freeman and Kevin Spacey did a good job. LL Cool J was also pretty good. Now the biggest surprise of this movie, IMO, was the acting of Justin Timberlake. He showed me that he could actually act.

The PQ was above average as was the audio. I would recommend this one as rental.

Watched "The Island" last night. My wife and I were both pleasantly surprised! I'd say it was a solid 3of5. Ewan McGregor plays two roles and switches characters flawlessly.
