Fincher has a couple of things in the works, including Rendezvous with Rama.

Panic Room was pretty good, but I'm not a fan of Seven and I thought Aliens 3 was just plain awful.

Watched THE ROCK last night, had seen it several years ago but I managed to pick up about 15 DVDs for 25 bucks from a friend who was getting out of the Navy and didn't want to pack them. This happened to be one and I got a chance to watch on the Z2 with surround and I will say it was a nice experience. Of course any movie with Sean, Nick and some explosions will grab my attention.

Wife and I watched "Along Came Polly" and "50 First Dates". Both movies were very entertaining and funny.

Last night I watched "Hellboy" and "Johnny English". Hellboy was better then what I expected, but "Johnny English" turned out to be less entertaining. I visualized a closer Bean character of Rowan Atkinson, then the character he played in "Johnny English". If Rowan Atkinson could develop his secret agent character a little better, then I could see them having a good chance here of a new character such as what Peter Sellers was in the “Pink Panther” movies as the bumbling Inspector Clouseau, but in Rowan Atkinson’s case it would be the bumbling secret agent.

This weekend I'm having a wee party.... showing:

Yeah Gus, I feel you. We keep winning but so does Texas and Anaheim!! We cant get any breathing room. After we went up 6-1 last night, we watched "Love Actually". A couple funny parts but definately a chic flick. I expected as much but I heard it was decent so we gave it a shot. Even my girlfriend thought it was just too cheesy some times. This is another DVD that will sit on the shelf for a long long time!

I took a couple days off to lounge around and spend quality time with my son before school starts.

I'm looking for some movies to watch. The only title I'm eagerly awating now is The Alamo. Is there anything else out there on DVD for me to watch the next few days?

Watched Big Fish last night. I enjoyed it but my girlfriend lost interest due to fantasy aspect that Tim Burton uses in his work. I would definitely recommend this one.

Gus, how old is your son? One thing I picked up this week that you may enjoy with him is "ALF: Season 1" This is classic and I still enjoy it very much.

He is Eight, but he thinks he's 18. That makes for a difficult situation when choosing movies. Yesterday I took him to see Alien VS Predator. The wife hit the roof when she found out I took him to a PG-13 movie. He loved it!

Just finished watching the Australian film Spotswood (Efficiency Expert in the US). Someone gave me a nice 35mm print of this. It's about a shoe company that hired a "Efficiency Expert". It's more like a comedy. Stars Anthony Hopkins, Ben Mendelsohn and Russell Crowe.

Yesterday afternoon I watched AOTC in HD again with my seven and four year olds( yes I know I could watch paint dry in HD and get a kick out of it but it is an entertaining film at least and looks oh so pretty in HD).

Last night, I watched the 1932 Grand Hotel. Very interesting but not what I would call a great film. The acting looked a lot like they where confused about how to do things now that films had sound. There were way too many exaggerated facial expressions body and hand gestures that looked awkward.

About half way through ( about 11:30) my 17 year old came up with his girlfriend and four of his buddies who had not seen the theater. I showed them some demo stuff including the DTheater version of Castaway ( the crash scene). There was actually a young movie buff in the group who just had the experience of his life by his demeanor when he came into the room and as he was leaving.:D I then went back to Grand Hotel.

Art, Your son is very lucky to have a father like you!

I watched Butterfly Effect, and like most preferred the dir cut ending better than the theatrical ending.
Also watched the Whole Ten Yards, wasn't expecting much, but was suprised to find myself laughing so hard. Today I plan on tweaking the HTPC I installed and then watch Along came Polly.
Enjoy

Friday night my wife and I watched "Secret Window", neither one of us like this movie. I am surprised that Johnny Depp even thought that the script was good enough to do this movie, unless it was much better before they got done with the editing. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/images/icons/icon13.gif http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/images/icons/icon13.gif

The Rookie was great, being based on a true story and all. I first read about him (the real life rookie) on Reader's Digest, then I actually saw him pitch. Not a great hurler, but he did have some heat.

Tonight I watched The Sox break out the broom for the second time this week.:D :D

Last night, in an extremely rare event, I noted that I didn't have anything "productive" that I felt like doing, so I announced, "I'm going downstairs to watch a movie." After a moment's eyebrow raise from my wife and my 11 year old daughter claiming, "I want to watch a movie," I convinced them that this time, it was just me.

So I pulled out "The Name of The Rose" and really enjoyed myself!

I was going to post last night after the game, but I was too traumatized. The only thing that kept me sane was Yohan Santana seremoniously spanking The Rangers in full HD splendor on ESPN-HD. Somebody needs to do something about Gary Sheffield. He should never be pitched to after the 8th inning.

Sunday night I watched "The Scout", starring Albert Brooks and Brendan Fraser. This was another baseball movie. This movie was no blockbuster, but was not bad for a $5.50 discount bid movie from Walmart.
After that I watched "Silverado", which I have not seen in years. This was a very enjoyable western. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/images/icons/icon14.gif
Last night my wife and I watched "The Butterfly Effect". I did not enjoy this as much as what some here did, but it was still an interesting movie. We watched the director's cut first and then flipped the dvd and watched the ending for the theatrical cut. We both like the theatrical ending more due to it having more of a happy ending. It was odd that the Director's side had both a selection for DD:EX and DTS:ES, but the theatrical side only had a selection for DD:EX.

Was this the one with the guy that had a 120 mile/hour fastball and could hit a homerun everytime left or right handed from any pitcher? I loooove that movie. Gus

Hi Gus,
I don't recall if it was a 120 mph, I think it was something like 115 mph, and yes he could hit a homerun with every ball pitched to him. BTW, this movie was more of a comedy. Brendan Fraser played a young guy who's memory was suppressed by being abused when he was little by his father, which gave him the ability to focus directly on one thing, Baseball. The movie is from 1994. Here is the overview from DVDprofiler:

In this hilarious fantasy for baseball lovers, Albert Brooks stars as a desperate Yankee scout who'll do anything to sign a new prospect. Banished to Mexico to search for talent, he discovers the greatest young ball player (Brendan Fraser) he's ever seen. But once he gets him back home, he finds this new recruit has a few unexpected problems that just may jeopardize both their jobs. Dianne Wiest, Lane Smith, and Tony Bennett co-star, along with some of baseball's most popular players.

Based upon an article written by Roger Angell for The New Yorker.

2 Featurettes each 8 minutes in length: first includes interviews with Albert Brooks, Brendan Fraser, Michael Ritchie, Dianne Wiest, etc. and the second is a baseball strike newscap with interviews with Ozzie Smith and Bob Tewksbury.

Thanks, Don. Didn't know that was out on DVD. I should drop by and see if I can pick it up. How was the PQ, is it anamorphic?

I won't bore you with the last W mr Wakefiend got for us. Before I watched the game, My son and I watched Attack Of The Clones. I had the sudden urge to see it after reading Art Sonneborn's thread about watching movies just because they look good. This one didn't disapoint. If it looks this good at my house, I can't imagine what this would look like on DVHS on Art's system.

I refuse to spend my hard earned $$ on anything with a Yankees symbol on it (unless there is a urine stream involved).

I must say I was proud of the Sox for pulling the game out last night. I tell you, we have THE best back-up catcher in the major leagues. Mirabelli could start for 50% of the teams out there. The guy is clutch.

Try For Love Of The Game You might like it. It's about an aging pitcher who throws a perfect game against The Yankees on his last game. I've watched this about 20 times already. For some reason, it's one of my favorite movies.

Last night, after the Sox went up 10-1!!!!! we decided that the game was over and watched 50 First Dates. It was a win win. My girlfriend loves the romance in the movie and Adam Sandler just cracks me up (both New Hampshire Boys).

ALTHOUGH, the part of the movie when he shows her the video and it has the Red Sox winning the world series and then says "just kidding", that was just rude. I really lost a little respect for Adam Sandler at that point. He's a New Hampshire guy and he has a hatred for the Red Sox. No Idea how that happened, but my heart sunk again when he sampled the Aaron Boone Homerun.

Late last night the wife and I watched "Taking Lives".
At the very beginning I thought it was not going to be good because the cops seemed to have a lot of cliche characteristics, but then it got good, then really good and then great as all the twists and turns happened.
We thoroughly enjoyed it.

And at one point, my wife screamed out at the top of her lungs when a scene in the movie surprised her.

Not for kids, but fun for grownups that like a good psychological, who-dunnit thriller. Great cast too.

We watched "Taking Lives" tonight. I agree that the beginning was full of cliches and I thought it was going to be a long boring movie. But it turned out to be a pretty good movie. Maybe I've watched too many movies, but I saw the twists coming. They were still good and made the movie much more enjoyable. And I kinda jumped at one part, probably the same part that Markito's wife screamed.

I went on a business trip to Korea this week. The flight had the up-dated seats with the personal video screens. Watched every movie that was available on the 13 hour flight which included; Shriek 2, 13 Going on 30, Lady Killers, The Punisher, Mean Girls, The Whole 10 Yards, The Alamo, and Perfect Strangers. Was hopeing the return flight would have different movies....but it diddn't so I re-watched my favorites, Shriek 2, 13 Going on 30, and the Whole Ten Yards. This was the most movies I have ever watched back to back in one sitting.

Has anyone here ever seen 'Step in to Liquid'? It's a surfing documentary and not really that great, but this was the first non-animated film that I saw that really made me appreciate my system - the combination of the colors & sound during the wave-crashing scenes especially (And I don't have the system that a lot of folks on this forum have). Plus, the idea of someone surfing a 60+ foot wave is just mind-blowing to me. BONUS: It is a two-disc set, and the second disc is done in Microsoft's HD format, which really adds to the experience if you have a HD system hooked to a Windows PC. I think worth renting if you can find it, if just for something different.

I found Paycheck to enjoyable and much more entertaining than I thought it would be. Just think...what is he going to do with those 20 everyday items?

The Girl Next Door had some funny moments but it is your typical "teenage" movie with a twist...think Risky Business for the new millenium.

Yesterday I watched The Girl Next Door and Godsend. The Girl Next Door was humorous and I liked it, but it wasn't anything great. Worth letting someone else rent it and bringing it over. Godsend was a strange movie and was entertaining. The kid did a pretty good job of acting his role. It's got several alternate endings that take about an hour to watch them all. Or maybe it just seemed that long. I had to FFWD through the parts that kept repeating.

Besides watching the Red Sox wipe their butts with the Detroit Tigers, We watched In the Cut(Meg Ryan) and Wonderland(Val Kilmer). In the Cut was an erotic thriller but wasn't that great. They focused more on the Erotic than the thriller part. the polt was pretty weak. Wonderland is a movie based on the true story of the Wonderland Quadruple homicide in 1981. I really enjoyed the movie and it was very interesting. The bonus features were great but could be very disturbing for others. It showed the original crime scene video including video of the corpses etc. Very well done though and includes a large # of celeb's including Christina Applegate, Jeanine Garafalo, Paris Hilton(random), Lisa Kudrow, Val Kilmer and more. I would recommend it for an adult audience.

Last night my wife and I watched "Duplex" starring Ben Stiller and Drew Barrymore, directed by Danny DeVito. From reading the movie’s description I thought it sounded good, but no wonder I never even heard about this movie until seeing it in the rental store as a recent release. This is a comedy and a very poor one at that. I think the movie was only about 90 minutes long, but it seemed to drag on forever. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/images/icons/icon13.gif http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/images/icons/icon13.gif

The night before that we watched "Under the Tuscan Sun", which I also enjoyed, even more then I thought I would (with it being a chick flick)! we are a pretty neurotic bunch, aren't we?:)

However, for me, most of the thrill is in the hunt, not the kill (although I would kill to see them win!). So much drama, so much passion. Way too much "agony of defeat" and yet we strive to taste "the thrill of victory" if just one time. Every year for 86 years we have suffered crushing defeat. Yet every April there we are, still hoping this will be the year! It doesn't get any bette than this!

Just watched the Orioles Blow it big time against the yankees. I also enjoyed watching Schilling strike out 10 and go 8+ innings for another Sox victory. This Morning watched 'Stealing Harvard'. Found this in the $5 bin at walmart so I picked it up. It was entertaining for the 80mins it lasted. I had some good laughs.

Oh, and am also continually watching my neighbors boats crash around the docks, Thanks to this charming Frances moving over us.

Gus, I'm the first to applaud a good Yankee bashing. Especially in regards to their payroll. However, as a Red Sox fan you have little room to talk. At least in terms of payroll. ;)

With the difference in payroll between The Yankees and The Red Sox, you could buy The Marlins and the Devil Rays and you would still have enough money to put in a good downpayment on The Expos. And that's before The Yanks go shopping for pitchers which is inevitable.

And that's before The Yanks go shopping for pitchers which is inevitable. You can bash the Yankees all you want but they are still winners and they are profitable! What more can you ask for. As for the Expos, I hope they die before coming here to Northern Virginia. Northern Virginia won't support baseball, plus there are enough losers with the Orioles around that we don't need another one. Talk about a loser organization. Angelos is a complete A-hole. Hey thats kinda funny, the Yanks have A-rod and the O's have A-hole (Angelos) and we can watch A-rod stick it to the A-hole.:D

We are man-handling every team in our way to the postseason. I cant wait to play the overrated, overpaid, crumbling, collapsing New York Yankees. We will finally have the last say this season!!

Still willing to give movies in HD too much of a chance just because, well, they're in HD, I watched "Cupid" on INHD. It's a Zach Galligan "thriller," and gosh but it was a bad movie.

Brief synopsis: Looney but functioning psychopath Zach and his also looney sister played by Mary Crosby (the big talent from "Dallas" that everyone's been clamoring to catch up with), had an incestuous relationship, but Zach (who believes in fate and the real mythological Cupid) is falling for someone else, played by none other than Hellraiser's Ashley Laurence. Lots of muderous meyhem of extremely stupid people ensues. And with the incest subplot it's all really trashy too. If V.C. Andrews were to write a T.V. movie for Lifetime Television for Women, this is what might result. Best avoided.

You gotta wonder if sometimes between takes in movies like this if actors kind of look at each other and smile and say "man, this is gonna be a really sh***y movie."

I just rented Hidalgo. I LOVED it! 5/5 I am buying it tomorrow. Way Way Way WAY better than Seabiscut!!

My neighbor came over last Sunday and picked out Poltergiest from my collection. I hadn't seen it in a long time and its a classic so I said sure. 1/2 way through I find out she has never seen it!!! WHAT!!!

She jumped off the couch a few times (Thanks HSU) and the Bass Shakers are still in the mail. :D

She really liked it so we put in Poltergiest II :D

I think those are my fav horror flicks.

Also watched The Pats send Manning home in HD last night. Excellent as always. Go Pats!

I saw the transporter last night and I didnt like it at all. I Stopped about an hour into it. I don't mine the mindless overblown action flick, but this one didn't do anything for me. The car chase at the beginning but me in a bad mood right off the bat. Nothing worse then a lame, unrealistic car chase. On that note, anyone have any recommendations for good car chase scenes? The bourne supremecy had a wonderful one.

Well, we didn't get to watch Twisted this week end. I wound up watching boxing on HBO on Saturday. Sunday I just went to bed early after doing lots of yard work.

Then today we were getting ready to watch it and the wife had to rush out to the hospital. Her sister-in-law was due to have a baby and something went wrong. All we know is she was to have an emergency c-section. No cellphones in the hospital and the switchboard wont tell about a patient's condition.

Gus,

I hope everything went well. My first child was born via emergency c-section, and my second child came 7 weeks early, so I fully understand the stress that such matters can create.

The good news is that the state of medical expertiese in such matters these days is excellent - neither one of my kids ended up with any problems as a result of their "non-standard" entry into the world...

Good luck,

So stupid and pointless! We made fun of it throughout the whole movie (luckily we were in our own HT, so we can do such things).

And "Peter Gabriel - Growing Up Live", what an amzing show! It is shot with something like 30 HD cameras, shows what's going on below the stage as well as above, Mr. Gabriel has many very cool props, including a huge inflatable ball that he rolls around the round stage in while singing (think hamster wheel) and the sound is fantastic! Watched The Punisher last night. I had heard the movie was good from some people and sucked from other people so I was expecting a bad movie. It actually turned out to be a pretty good flick. From my little knowledge of the comic book story, it was a good likeness, except of course for how his family dies. I thought it was nice to see a modern action movie without all the CGI.

GROWING UP Live is a great show. I actually caught the show live in Dallas last summer, the several hundred mile drive was well worth it! Just as he wrapped up the show with his encore hit, Red Rain, the Dallas sky opened up and dumped about 2" of rain. Was totally surreal!

As for what I watched. I watched THX-1138 this morning. I was amazed at how well the revised film material looked!!! Prestine images! Makes me wonder how well THX survived with out deterioration, yet Lucas say the original StarWars film is all but completed destroyed from years of atmospheric exposure.

The movie, THX-1138, plays out long and dry... but does spark some interest in its ideals and representation of cultivated society. The movie, of course, landmarks the beginning of the Lucas empire... and justibly so. Worth having in your Sci Fi collection, if not just for cinematic history.

Haven't been watching too many movies, been glued to the TV, phone, and computer most of this week because of Ivan (our beach home in Perdido Key was swept away with pretty much everything else there, but of course it's of little consequence compared to the loss of life and property of some of the full-time area residents). But last night we all decided to watch a movie, and we decided to put in "Raiders of the Lost Ark".

I've had the DVDs for a while, but it's the first time I watched it. Pure bliss. The sound re-mix was just outstanding for a film of its time. I've seen it on countless occasions, but seeing it like this was like seeing it for the first time.

Haven't got a chance to watch any movies. Still caought in in my sports binge. Last night and this afternoon was the roller-coaster matches with The Yanks. Tonight a few guys are going to get together and watch Hopkins vs DelaHoya. My prediction is that if DeleHoya is in the best shape of the last 5 years, he will out-point Hopkins. If DeleHoya comes in at anything less than his very best, he will suffer the same fate Trinidad did.

Watched "Flesh+Blood". I saw it was on INHD, but I watched the DVD version to make sure I got the unedited international cut. I know the movie has a lot of fans on this board, but after seeing it, I'm not one of them. It's just more goofy Paul Verhoeven trash on the same level as "Showgirls". Kind of interesting for a while, then it just becomes so stupid and unintentionally hilarious.

Watched the DTS version of Die Hard last night, I actually just picked it up at walmart for the first time. I really enjoyed it and the soundtrack was more than I expected for a film from the late 80's. I was suprised the roof explosion was somewhat lacking though since the fights and gun battles seemed to pack a whallop (the HSU got a nice workout) and the surrounds got plenty of time to strut there stuff.

A Camero? Really? I sat through the director's commentary. He said they destroyed five or six Challengers (mainly from the off roading). Never mentioning a Camero. I wonder which comparably trick-out rod would be worth more now?

TTA89
09-28-04, 12:00 AM
The Challenger is worth more as I beleive it was just a plan jane Camaro. Its been awhile since I have seen the movie but I believe it was a 70 Challenger RT 440-6 car. Thats a pretty big money car these days. If you slow the video down you can see it. Its been sort of a joke among Classic Chrysler Musclecar guys for years. :D

I'll have to watch it this week. :D

My dad has a 71 challenger convertable so I am always looking for another so I can be like dad, that being said, the 440 6 pack cars in good shape go for 40-50 grand last time I checked. A 69 camero(non Z28/SS) in great shape can be had for 12-15 grand. Did read an article though about the Hemi cuda/challenger and talk about money. There are so few left that the owners of these cars are being offered mad money (one was offered a cool mil) but they are not selling. Simply amazing. Should have kept my 1970 Mach 1 Mustang and the 68 ragtop camero, maybe dad's do know more than 18 year olds... :)

The car they wrecked was a plain jane 67 Camaro which you can buy in the rust free states for 3-5K if you look around.

The Million dollar cars are for the very rare Hemi Convert cars. You can buy a Hemi Challenger Hardtop for 100K or so.

Yes the hemi ragtops are the ones I was talking about, sorry if I was unclear. My dad got his 71 in 80 or so for 900 bucks, had a 318 auto. Wanted a 340 6 pack car but even back then they were hard to find and not cheap! He just did a restore on her to get rid of the rust and some body damage from a baseball and that is when he put in a new 360 crate motor from chrysler, nice car, sounds great and looks even better...
Sorry for the digression.

Randy, I agree with you about "Star Wars", I too can only think of this movie as just "Star Wars".

Brickie, I guess it's time for us to start listing our favorite Halloween movies. I always enjoy watching "Something Wicked This Way Comes". I am always a sucker for movies that are geared more towards a family type viewing. I am always setting aside movies that are best suited for the Halloween time just so I can have something to look forward too. I guess we will be pulling out "The Addams Family" and "Casper" before long. I just recently watched "Haunted Mansion" starring Eddie Murphy, while it was just as bad of a movie as what everyone has said it is, I still get some enjoyment out of this type of movie.

Addams Family, The (1991)

Saturday watched Disney's Aladdin. Picture and sound was astounding! Listened to the Enhanced Home Theater Mix and was really impressed. I really enjoyed listening to the deleted song Proud of your boy, not the Clay Aiken version but the version where Alan Menken sings. Gilbert Gottfried is also a riot. Of course Robin Williams is at the top of his game in this performance and it was moving when he did his impersonation of Rodney Dangerfield who recently passed away. Watching the bonus materials was also sobering to realize that at least two other people have passed away since this movie was realeased back in 92 - Douglas Seale (The Sultan) and famed caricaturist Al Hirschfeld, whose artwork essentially influenced the entire look of Aladdin.

Wow, cool thread.... can't believe I've missed this one. Maybe 'cause I only just now have my basement theater (almost) done.

Anyway... I'm installing a faucet in the sink at the back of the room last night. Put on "Singin' in the Rain", just for some background noise. My 6 yr old daughter sneaks down and plops in one of the seats. I'm busy. She's occupied, and quiet. After a while she absolutely startles me with SQUEALS of pure delight during the "make 'em laugh" routine by Donald O'Connor. Man, talk about a warm feeling in your heart... all the effort on the HT was paid off, right there. I finished up quick, and we watched the rest together. What a great feeling.

Others we've been watching in the last couple weeks:
Star Wars trilogy... Aladdin... Jurassic Park... music DVDs (U2). All have been great in the new theater. No complaints about the changes (SW and Aladdin). Liked the bonus material too (usually don't).

Tonight or tomorrow: Love Actually.

Yeah, chick flick, but one I haven't seen yet, and seems to have good ratings. Plus, I figure I owe the wife one, for putting up with all the action adventure movies!

Interestingly , before the film I asked if any of the people present had or were taking martial arts and there were none ! This film may have had some deeper meaning than I could get but basically "The Matrix" plus "Night of the Living Dead". The fight scenes went on and on and on . Since my eyes have been turning into footballs and baseballs lately (Saturdays are marathon college football days for me), this weekend I started watching Season One of "Roswell" from 1999, and it's much better than I thought it would be. I've watched 5 episodes so far, and it's all pretty fascinating. And even though it's about teenagers, it's not the "Dawson's Creek"-type stuff I was expecting. At least not yet. Easy to recommend, especially to those who liked the movie "Starman."

Decent anamorphic widescreen presentation, but maybe a little soft. There are four 45 minute episodes per disc. The audio is 5.1 DD but not very agressive. Still, pretty high quality for TV shows on DVD.

I was forced to watch the whole thing. It was like watching a train wreck in slow motion. At the end, I was reduced to complaining about the unpiring. I truely and honestly believe the third base, and home plate umps work for Steinbrenner. Still, it was such a beating that the yanks would have won any way.

Thank heavens for The Pats, there would probably be mass-suicides in New England if it weren't for them. I would probably volunteer to go first!

I didn't think it was that scary either. Anyone ever watch Ringu? The Ring is a remake of the japanese film Ringu. It's supposed to have less "blood and guts" and leaves more to the imagination, which some say is scarier. It also has a different ending. They also made a prequel and a sequel to Ringu, but the sequel to the american The Ring has nothing to do with the other japanese films. But everyone says to see Ringu without seeing The Ring and you will appreciate Ringu more.

Ahh yes the Mummy is a good one. I'm still waiting for the DVD of Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein. Does anyone know if that has come out yet? Also the Night of the Living Dead (in Black and White) is very suspenseful with some gore. It would probably be a bit much for 12 year olds though.

Also Jurassic Park I and III have some great suspense and adventure. Not ghosts and goblins for halloween but great adventure. JP II is good right up until the whole San Diego tryst then it falls apart for me, although the scene with the 12 year old kid in his bedroom is classic.

The Sequel to the Mummy was also kinda fun. Watching them back to back with my kids was fun.

How about "The Creature From the Black Lagoon" as an introduction to horror for youngsters? It's not overly graphic, and the special effects are lame enough by today's standards that a 12-year-old shouldn't suffer nightmares from it...

I'm talking about the ALCS tonight on Fox of course. See the CURSE of the BAMBINO come to frutition once again. Something different will occur during this rendition. I am hearing whispers that this is also a tale of metamorphisis. That is, this may be the last game for Pedro in a Bosox uniform. So we can watch as Pedro succumbs "to his Daddy" and becomes a Yankee.

I hear the Pedro is a free agent and is interested in following the footsteps of Roger Clemence and becoming a Yankee so that he can win a World Series before age creeps up on him.

Watched The Day After Tomorrow with my son and a few of his friends. They boys got bored during the 'character development' stages but were very attentive when stuff started blowing up:). Also watched The Alamo. I don't know if it was historically accurate but it introduced (to me at least) another view of the historical 'heroes' of the conflict and provided images that allowed me to relate to the period and the conflict. On the lighter side, we watched Breakin' All the Rules and Connie and Carla both were fun and entertaining.

The new curse (which was just broken last night) was that we couldn't get past the Yanks because the Yanks would always spend more and get better players. Well, last night the million dollar team choked!

I'm wondering how many heads rolled last night after we handed New York the biggest collapse in sports history.

As for The Wold Series: I'm hoping we win it all, of course. But it's an honor just to be a part of it.

I think its more exciting that the Redsox finally beat the Yankees AND in the Bronx. Thats more exciting to me than beating the Astros or Cards.

Its been something that they have not be able to ever do. :o

Whoa, slow down there Gus.

Congratulations on doing the impossible and winning the ALCS after being behind 3 games. Breaking curses is never easy. Celebrate and enjoy, you deserve it, but don't forget the true prize is not just beating the Yankees but winning the World Series. For then and only then will the curse be broken. So don't lose sight of the goal through the drunken celebrations and remember that the remaining aftermath of the curse of the Bambino is that you must win the World Series. The curse is only in a Dormant state (like Freddy Kruger or Jason). You know the way Hollywood horror stories go, the villain ain't really dead he's just resting his eyelids and a sequel is in the making. But in this case the villain (the Curse of the Bambino) will really be dead if you win the World Series and it will be especially dead if you beat Roger Clemence to do it.

So, by order of the board of curses, Ye shall celebrate for three days and three days from hence ye shall attempt to close out the curse for all time. While you are going through this last tribulation never forget the words of that Immortal Yankee;

:D "It ain't over, til its over"
:D Yogi Berra

Congratulations Red Sox Fans!!!

I am pretty sure ESPN said that a couple hockey teams came back from being 3-0 to win, so I do not think it is "only team in sports history to blow a 3-0 lead in a 7 game series, EVER"
But I am happy for you GUS, now if my Cards can get past Clemons tonight things are going to be real interesting!!

Now I can't wait to see the movie come out on this year's BoSox! All the makings of a great sports flick...

Curt Schilling = Kevin Costner? Or maybe Jim Belushi?

Tony Danza has to be in it too somewhere...

:D

Which has been a nice trend since 2001.

2001 D-Backs 4-3 loss

2002 Angels 3-1 loss

2003 Marlins 4-2 loss

2004 Red Sox 4-3 loss

Wonder were the money will be spent this off season??

Thats easy, where it always goes... To the Redsox lineup. A few of them will be in pinstripes next season for sure.

Baseball so needs a salary cap but with both series going 7 games I don't think that will happen anytime soon. :(

Day After Tomorrow, which I really liked even with a plot full of holes.

The Birds, I hadn't seen it in a long time, and forgot how good it was.

Red Dragon, which I liked better then Hannibal, but not as much as Manhunter.

Looks like we will focusing on horror flicks for the next few weeks.

Yes! The Birds! We are having a 7 night mini-series with The Birds here in a couple of days!:D :D

P.S. With all due respect to Jamiecrane, I really hope these Birds aren't as good as we all remember!

Had a house full of 11 year old girls over last night. In-between bobbing for apples and costume fun, they watched "The Mummy".

I watched the first game of the World Series. Come on Cards - you can do better!

Clearing some space off the TiVo yesterday,

I watched a strange little movie called CQ by one of the Copolla kids. Kind of a self-indulgent period piece, can't believe I actually watched the whole thing, but it was fun copying the CW.

Also watched Matchstick Men. Thumbs up.

Watched the director's cut of Hellboy. Like the movie, but frankly, didn't see enough difference for the wait and the extra money.

I agree. I watched it last March and though I assumed that I wouldn't like it, my wife and I really liked it a lot. Great twist (that's all I'm gonna say).

Watched Van Helsing (twice):). Good action and special effects. The PQ was very good. The audio track was excellent. Good use of surrounds with a lot of low-end information.

Last night I watched My Red Sox go 3 up on The Birds. Looks promising, but history has taught Red Sox Nation to keep quiet until The Fat Lady sings. I hope her vocals are in good working order for tonight though. I have a bottle of Korbel chilled just in case!

I flipped back and forth between the game and live commentary from JPL during acquisition of the Titan fly-by. :)

Hopefully the Redsox don't pull a "Yankees" as that would just be CLASSIC Redsox fashion.

Love to see my cards comeback, but I said all along our pitching was not good enough, now it seems we do not know how to run bases either.
The KISS OF DEATH was actually last saturday when ESPN's own LEE CORSO picked the Cards to win it all. Lee is always the kiss of death with any team I root for!
Let me be the first to say Congrats to the SOX, they really do deserve to win!

But man I was sure we would at least send it back to Boston :-)

Nary a whisper has yet escaped The Fat Lady's voluminous lips. Until then, No team shall celebrate the thrill of victory nor suffer the agony defeat.

Just ask The Yankees! :D:D:D

We, in The Red Sox Nation are cautiously optimistic, but we are far too used to being let down. In simple terms: We are terrified of what may yet happen.

I just pray that the fans in Boston show some class and don't overdo the celebration.
