I never really thought I'd live to see it!

The curse is broken!!!!

I'm numb right now. Sleep is out of the question. I don't really know what to do! You guys have no idea!!!! (Unless you are from N.E.)

Sorry Gus, The Red Sox are a good team and I expect they will be there next year. I think Little learned and will continue to learn and the Yankees are lucky that they have a great manager in Joe Torre. Without him, the Yankees don't even make it to the ALCS.

What a difference one year makes. When you wrote this, I had the most overwhelming sense of doom you can possibly imagine.

Well, 86 years later and the Red Sox win the World Series in convincing fashion. I think the Curse of the Bambino is broken. With the Patriots winning the NFL Super Bowl and the Red Sox winning the MLB World Series, lets hope 2 out of 3 is enough :D :D :D {Is this sufficiently vague?}

Yeah Gus,:( I got dinged. Actually I was talking about the Bruins :) Yeah, thats it, the bruins. :D

I actually like the Celtics. I even went to some of their games when I lived up in Acton Massachusetts just outside of Lexington and Concord. In fact my son was born in Concord in 1985.

By the way Congratulations. . . Your Red Sox did well (Its tough to believe but I do like the Red Sox dating back to the Rico Petrocelli and Carl Yasztremski days)

Well I guess I know what you guys were watching. This was supposed to be the week of Halloween movies and I know Gus was expecting a trick, but instead got a big treat.

Congratulations, http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/images/icons/icon14.gif http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/images/icons/icon14.gif I guess there is no bigger Blockbuster for you to watch this week, then the one you just saw! And just think, you were all prepared to go trick or treating dressed as a defected ballplayer, and now you can ring your neighbor’s doorbells and yell trick or treat in pride, without being ashamed!

I remember what a treat it was when the Arizona Diamondbacks won the series, just how could it felt, and I am not even much of a sports fan, so I know how good you most feel. Just as if you ate a big bag of Halloween candy all by yourself, with chocolate smeared all over that grin! :D

Just leave those poor trees alone! :D

I think I saw you on one of the news clips dangling off of a tree after the game!

Sheesh - knock over a few trees, and the cops shoot tear gas at ya. Over in my area, you have to tip over cars and start a few building fires to get that kind of TLC!:D

But now to post something "thread related":
Saw an old Rankin/Bass puppeteer movie - "Mad Monster Party". Maybe it was because I was tired, but my daughter and I both fell asleep halfway through it. I'll have to watch it again to give you a good review - it got good reviews on Amazon. PQ transfer was pretty good, considering it was made in '68. I will mention that there was a part where Phyllis Diller was singing - what can I say about that part? FF is the answer...

Last night we watched The Day After Tomorrow. Not a bad flick. I kinda wondered near the end how the ships were frozen half-sunk if the water didn't freeze right away. There were a bunch of little problems like that in the movie, but if you can keep yourself from thinking about them, then the flick is alright.

Watched Van Helsing tonight. I thought the movie was going to be worse than it was. Plenty of action and good sets if you can look past all the CGI. Plus, I can't complain too much about a movie with Kate Beckinsale in a corset the whole time.

I wasn't expecting great movies from either so I guess I was pleasantly surprised with both.

Saturday night ...

My wife had never seen Twin Peaks, and I haven't seen it for years, so we watched the pilot. She was disappointed that I didn't have season 1 to keep going. :)

Then we watched Stargate, which I'd only seen parts of. It was fun to watch 'til the third act dragged on ....

Earlier we watched The Office special from BBC America, saved patiently on TiVo.

Day After Tomorrow is my most recent watch.

It had the most amazing low end of any release I have heard. When that large wave built up just before crashing into NYC, I thought my room (and woofers) were going to explode!! New demo material for sure.

So So film...The gratuitous global warming excuse at the end was just priceless:rolleyes:

Gotta agree with "The Day After Tomorrow" reviews - my wife and I watched it last night. Good visuals, good sound, fair acting, and what I'd call a better-than-made-for-TV storyline.

If you're not looking for some deep meaning, life-altering experience, and you just want a couple hours' worth of entertainment, give it a play...

Watched Season 1 of 24 the past 2 days. Already threw it on ebay.

It was entertaining but VERY suspenseful, I don't like being that nervous for such a long time. Are they gonna die, are they gonna live, are they gonna die... man kidnapped again... escapped... kidnapped again... All in 24 hours! Shesh!

If you want to kill some time its ok, the blonde is cute :)

I have Roswell Season 1 on DVD to watch next.

Amazon had a pretty good deal on TV Series so I bought a bunch. :)

Watched the new "Dawn of the Dead" the other day. Lots of fun, plenty of gruesome gore, and just full of those scenes that make you yell at the screen, "No! For the love of God, don't go in there! What are you thinking?!"

If you liked the original, you'll eat this one up as well (pun intended...).

The new version of Dawn of the Dead was a pretty good flick. Parts of it looked more like it was shot with a home video camera, but it was still pretty good. There was one part that was never answered. Near the beginning, the lead girl washes her hands in a fountain. Then the cop gets a cut and ends up in the fountain. They showed it like that was how he gets infected, but he never is.
Also, be sure to watch the credits.

Okay dokey, I'm the noob here and have enjoyed reading most of this entire thread.

About me:
My HT is certainly a beginner's HT compared to the awesome ones I've seen here. I have a Mits DLP 62-525 tv with a panasonic progressive scan DVD player & a really old Sony receiver & speakers which is only 550W of total power. Kinda sad, but I'll be upgrading soon. :) I also have xbox & ps2 hooked up to the tv.

Anyway, back on topic, some recent movies I've watched (within the past 2 months or so....)
Star Wars Eps. IV, V, VI--are absolutely amazing pic & sound! Although in the cantina, Han Solo's supposed more realistic dodge of the blast was quite honestly horrible.

Day After Tomorrow--awesome special effects, but if you wanna watch a good story line, you'd be disappointed here.

Whole Ten Yards--I thought the Whole 9 yards was alot funnier. Still had its moments though.

Calendar Girls--if you're in the mood for a "Chick Flick" not a bad one to check out.

Kill Bill Vol.2--I liked the action in this one. Quentin is a little off the wall which is what makes some of his movies interesting.

Aladdin--my favorite Disney movie, the songs are so addicting and pic & sound were pretty good too, esp. the part where the cave starts to talk and says somethin' like "who disturbs my slumber" & then later says something about the only one who can enter is a diamond in the rough.

White Chicks--totally corny movie, but still kinda fun. I had a few good laughs with this one

Taking Lives--I'll watch anything with Angelina Jolie :) Was an okay movie, kinda predictable, but Angelina is good for the eyes.

Girl Next Door--Elisha Cuthbert is hot, movie is good, reminded me some of my HS years almost 10 yrs ago--it's a love story

What's on tap for this weekend: Shrek2 & prolly another movie, although I'm not sure which one yet.

Haven't been up to posting lately. Injured my shoulder at the gym and it hurts like a bastard.

Last friday:

Dawn of the dead - I'm not into gory horror movies, but I made it through the entire thing without feeling badly.

Van Helsing - More enjoyable popcorn.

Can't comment on video nor audio quality since I saw this at a friend's house and the gear is not high quality (to say the least). But enjoyed sharing dinner and a few drinks with my friends none-the-less.

Tonight: Shrek-2

Friday night - Shrek 2. Pretty funny, but I'm not as gaga over these movies as a lot of people. I find the "style" of animation clumsy and distracting.

Saturday night - found myself alone so guys night! Watched Terminator 3, which for some reason I'd never gotten around to seeing. Pretty good and I liked the ending - sets it up into a Planet of the Apes style loop - really begs for one more movie (or two, where we loop back to the beginning and give the future a different path).

Then watched Rounders - also very good. Especially if you're hooked on TV poker!

I also watched "Shrek 2" last night. Really enjoyed it - I thought it was better than the first one. Puss in Boots was priceless - and the short that they put on the disk called "Far Far Away Idol" was a lot of fun. The Simon character was a hoot.

The kids and I watched "The Last Starfighter" this afternoon. They really liked the film, but I was unimpressed with the quality of the transfer. Could very well have been a problem with my PJ, though. It might be time to replace the Plus Piano with a better quality PJ that can handle an HD signal, too.

Then Saturday night I had a Rodney Movie Marathon with the guys in honor of the man that got 'no respect'. Had about 10 people over throughout the night....with 5 die-hards that stayed for all three flicks. We watched "Back to School", "Easy Money", and "Caddyshack". It was a blast....many laughs.

We watched a few this weekend. Like most we watched Shrek 2 and thoroughly enjoyed it. Can't say the same for Around the World in 80 days. Jackie Chan movies are becoming repetitive. We also watched Garfield. Bill Murray was a good match for Garfield. The movie overall was OK. To cap it off, I watched Ripley's Game with John Malkovich. I found the movie entertaining but dull. A good story, good acting, but slow moving with very little suspense or intrigue.

 Well put me down as one who also watched Shrek 2, a good flick, but not as funny as I thought it'd be. I liked the Far Far Away Idol thing they had @ the end of the movie.

Also watched the first 2 Batman movies (Batman & Batman returns), I was really not impressed with how those movies turned out on DVD. Not good @ all!

We were the twelve billionth family in the world to watch Shrek 2 last night. Everybody loved it. I was very impressed with the quality of the animation. Some of the scenes, mostly scenes that didn't show any humans ( or ogres) looked very real. I believe the next generation of anymated movies will rival the real thing.

And I hear that Polar express is also very real in its animation taking the "real look and feel" another step further. How long do you think it will be before they don't need the actor/actresses except for the voice overs? Do you think the executives and producers will eliminate the finicky actor/actress that costs so much in a production and doesn't guarantee its success? What would be cool is if Hollywood did a story about an animated character that took the place of a real actor/actress but everyone thought they were real and Hollywood billed them as real. Cool, Maybe its already being done. Maybe Ahnold isn't real just an animated character:D

re-joined Netflix a couple weeks ago and also sprang for a Blockbuster movie pass for this month, so i've been taking the opportunity to watch a lot of stuff i had previously never seen or outright avoided including

Cider House Rules (enjoyed it quite a bit)
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind ( wow! will more than likely buy this down the road)
Gothika (don't understand all the harsh reviews, as Ebert said, its good trash and knows what it is - though the last act and resolution is not as strong as the set-up)
Dawn of The Dead -04 ( this version didn't work for me but the original is still one of my all time favorite films)
Mulholland Falls (mildly diverting thanks to the milieu, but LA Confidential mined some of the same territory so much better)
Pickup On South Street (tight little film noir with a wonderful B&W transfer, got a little corny at the end though)
In A Lonely Place (highly regarded Bogart film noir. very disappointed. had planned on purchasing it blind, earlier- so glad i didn't)
Adventures Of Sherlock Holmes (not bad, but this is another one i'm glad i didn't buy first)
Toute Une Vie ( amusing, but slightly long French romantic comedy/farce from the 70s)
Bon Voyage (very enjoyable melange of WWII thriller, romantic comedy and farce with Isabelle Adjani and Gerard Depardieu...from the director of Depardieus Cyrano De Bergerac)

Went to Target and picked up a few movies friday... and got a guy to consider building his own FP home theater while I was there. (after my daughter blurted out "we have a movie theater out our house!").

Anyway, we got: Iron Giant, American Beauty, and Lawrence of Arabia.

Iron Giant:
I agree with Randy, this is a terrific movie. Well worth owning. One of my favorites. I've been waiting for this DVD for a while, and it looks great. I can finally toss the VHS tape.

American Beauty:
I don't really know what to make of this movie... I just like watching it. It's sort of an odd flick, but it won a bunch of Academy Awards, so I guess its not TOO off-beat. I'm a Kevin Spacey fan, so I guess thats part of it.

Lawrence of Arabia:

Will be getting Harry Potter on Tuesday. It's gonna be a great weekend for movies this week.

Now this is a cool thread... I just found it, plan to hang out a bit. Lots of good ideas here! Think Im going to go buy Iron Giant soon based upon recent posts...

Recently finished my basement with new HT - Infocus 7200 throwing 100" diag 16 x 9, Denon 5.1 sound. Just got HDTV working a couple of weeks ago, Broncos football in HD and 5.1 sound is as good as being there. Ive been in "cave mode" ever since...:D

Sampling of Recent viewings :

Shrek 2 with the kids - very funny fun movie. Lots of references to other movies. Kids and I had fun picking them all out.

Road to Perdition - have had this for a while, first time watching on big screen. Still a good flick, but knowing the ending took something out of it

A Knights Tale with the family - just a fun flick, creative soundtrack (you know what I mean of you have seen it)

Saving Private Ryan - alone. First time on big screen (never saw it in theater). Absolutely mind blowing. When I watched before on 32" TV, you could ALMOST tone down the first 20 mins. At over 7' wide, its a moving experience (and not really a pleasant one).

Last night : The Alamo - not bad, not great. Drags at times, but interesting anyway.

The first DVD is Titled Serenity and provides the background for the series. The visuals and fx are very good and I have to admit I really enjoyed the movie. I wish other TV shows were this good.

Years ago my wife and I enjoyed Star Trek-The Next Generation. This series has a similiar feel in the storylines and character development.

Can't wait to watch DVD #2.

Two days ago - Elf (the kids liked it, I chuckled a few times but its not a movie destined to be in the "own" rack.

Also The Terminal - an OK movie, but again not a classic. Hanks does an admirable job in a character that I think would have been difficult to play. Again, not destined for the "own" rack, but a pleasant movie to watch.

Also Gatica Superbit - very nice transfer, and an intriguing storyline. I knew nothing of this movie (dont know how I missed it before).

Tonight - Monty Python and the Holy Grail with some other Python fans. Should be a lot of fun!

Wednesday - "Chronicles of Riddick" - LAME LAME LAME - No story what so ever - I didn't expect much but it didn't deliver any.

Thursday - "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" - Really liked this one. Best Harry Potter to date in my opinion

Friday - "Van Helsing" - Again didn't expect much from this like Riddick. However this was a pleasant surprise. Decent storyline - thin but thats to be expected. Non stop action and creatures. Good stuff.

Tonight - Will either be "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" or "Home on the Range" - looking forward to both.

Elf was better than I expected. James Caan seemed like he was on tranquilizers though. Just "seeing" Bob Newhart makes me laugh.

As for Firefly, that is a GREAT TV series. Well written and acted. Not bad special effects either and they don't take over the show. I am waiting for the theatrical movie of Firefly coming out next year called "Serenity"...however, it's release date was put back to September 30th instead of April 5th. This is my favorite Sci-Fi since Babyon 5.

EDIT: Also Firefly DVD 4 pack is a reasonable priced $40.00. All Season TV shows should not be more than that. The $80.00 range is just greedy and no wonder people "burn" copies of media. I always buy my DVD's. I want the cases and the other stuff that comes with them. I will not buy Babylon 5 for example at those prices. Also I heard they are not that great of a transfer to begin with.

Watched Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban a few days ago. I thought this was by far the best of the three in the series. The other two had endings that were too quick without any real excitement, especially the first one.

And poor Ron, how come he is always getting hurt? I'd quit hanging around with Harry if I were him.

Watched Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban with the family. Everyone thought it was the best of the three.

Pulled out 'Jack' with Robin Williams. Another winner. Robin Williams, Bill Cosby, and a bunch of 10yr old boys. Engaging and entertaining.

Went to the movies for National Treasure. It was fast moving and entertaining. Unfortunately, the theater had less than adequate audio. I would like to see and hear this one in my HT.

Watched Mulan. Good story and animation. Eddie Murphy doing his stuff pre-Shrek.

Watched Sleepover. A good teen film with some laugh-out-loud moments.

Around the World in 80 Days (2003). entertaining for the kids and adults. Great surround activity and some surprisingly powerful base (e.g. when the Statue of Liberty tablet falls).

Recommend it for a family film.

Also saw Johnny Depp movie secret Window. What a tired, repeated old stroy line. Started out strong but fizzled. Not recommended.

Tonight is van Helsing.

Yep, state of the art 1984. And it still plays well.

Interesting trivia bit for this movie: Wil Wheaton from "Stand By Me" and infamous for "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and now celebrity blogger was shot for this movie, even received credit, but had his scenes cut.

Watched a pretty interesting movie called "The Tour Baby!" It is basically a home movie that a guy shot on his trip to watch the 2000 Tour de France. He had the good fortune of running into the right people and before he knew it he was getting behind the scenes footage of the Tour. He decided to make it into a movie and sell it to help raise money for the Lance Armstrong Foundation. If you have any interest in cycling or Lance Armstrong it is worth the purchase.
Also watched the bonus disc of the Star Wars trilogy, I really enjoyed seeing how the movies were created and the amazing work that went into it all. I enjoyed the first Star Wars movie but never really got into the next 2, or the latest 2 for that matter. After seeing this I think I will be going back and at least watching the origional trilogy.

Stepford Wives: Entertaining. I'm glad they did the movie the way they did rather than the way they showed in the deleted scenes.

Chronicles of Riddick: Good action flick. This was a good movie considering it starred Vin Diesel. Glad they followed along with the original story (I think it was named Pitch Black?) Good digital scenes and it is great if you want to test your contast. Lots of good dark scenes.

Elf: First half was a bit boring. Second half was better. It's got some funny parts in it. Worth watching at least once.

Spiderman 2: Better than the first. It was a good movie with lots of action. I don't like that they don't really explain what was wrong with Peter and the whole thing about the single tiny fragile chip was pretty dumb. But the rest of the movie was good. I'd recommend this movie.

They say we are lucky to get any decent DVDs of these pre-code movies. That would have been cool to see that in a theater. (I'll bet the audience was well behaved at that viewing :) ) It didn't look to bad to me on TCM. In fact now my wife is Groaning because I want to buy some pre-code movies. I want to see more of this "liberal" attitude from 1925-1935.

Tonight I was waiting to view Enterprise on channel 8 UPN. But it was preempted by the Pistons and channel 50 was a stinkin' FCC screen. I wanted my "fix" on Sci-Fi. There isn't any real good Sci-Fi on TV anymore and Enterprise is better than other Star Trek shows. So instead a buddy came over with some burned DVDs of his Tivo captures. So we watch some South Park, Drawn Together, and Tripping the Riff. Funny stuff.

Well I dunno ..... hmmm. Channel 50 Detroit is UHF. Been that since it's beginnings. Channel 8 Jackson/Lansing has been on Channel 8(UPN 18 I think) for a year or so. It is a "new" station. As for it being a UHF or VHF I frankly don't know.

I know I'll have to hunt for it. It will probably be on at an odd time. Or I'll forget, or the wife will make me do something else like go to Her office Christmas party. Where I have to "Behave Properly". :) That means NO "Christmas Cheer" ie: I would say something stoopid and hear about it all the way home. (She is a Nurse Coordinator for a Group of Doctors....a good group of people...seriously they are...but Doctors just the same...that means SHOP TALK)

Oh...well. It could be worst. There could be no party and then that means NO job and we are poorer...and that means NO cool High-Dev gadgets or other electronic devices. ;) I shudder to think....

EDIT: Oh and as of UHF/VHF I have no antennas or HD tuners. She makes Nurse Bucks not Doctor Bucks. I am NO rich guy either. I make Workindood Bucks. So the Buck has to stop somewhere, since I/We are out of Bucks. Also we have one child in Catholic school (They demand Bucks all the time) and the other one is at DePaul. (They seem to have a need for an unlimited supply of Bucks.) Just to irritate the parents DePaul lets the students out for 6 weeks at the Holidays (Thanksgiving till just after the first of the year) and that puts a strain on our Home Bucks in the form of food, gas, and any other reason to spend precious Bucks.

Ahhhh....Buck IT.

I have a lot of old films but I'm just not much of a silent film buff. I have a Chaplin collection these are great and of course Metropolis. Others are It Happened One Night , Grand Hotel, Dracula,The Thin Man and All Quiet on the Western Front , good films and they have value to be watched more than once for me. Of course I have five or six Marx Brothers DVDs as well. I have a hard time just buying older films since the transfers are a mixed bag. Some Like It Happened One Night is near reference quality while others are unwatchable at the same age or younger.Reviews of these DVD are hard to come by.

Superbit is awesome. We just got done watching Spiderman 2 in Superbit. I haven't seen this movie at all yet. Not only was it my favorite Super-Hero movie ever, the Superbit was icing on the cake. The fight scene on the train was well done.

Also I am lucky to have a wife that appreciates good Action/Sci-Fi type movies. She was right in there enjoying it too. She was making funny comments( At least WE can do that in our own home) on how Peter Parker can fix his monetary problems. She was saying on how Spiderman needs to have Coke or Pepsi sponsor him. Plaster ads on his costume for royalties. :) She can be a Funny Lady at times.

I purchased a MyHD card about a year ago and just recently got around to installing it in my HTPC and putting up an antenna to receive ota HD reception. We started watching for the first time the CSI series in HD and find these shows to be very entertaining and fascinating.

I originally did not want to use our theater room for TV viewing in fear of us losing interest from spending too much time in the theater room, but I find that the CSI series seems to fit right in, more like watching a short mystery movie.

So far I have been unimpressed with the movies that have been broadcasted ota in HD. When comparing them to the same movie on DVD, which I scale to 720p, I see little difference in pq, and the sq is much better on the DVD. I also prefer to watch the movie unedited, without commercials, and with no TV station logo.

"ABBA-The Movie"

on INHD... recorded on DVR. Watch ONLY if you're a fan. The "movie" part is sort of contrived. Its mostly just a series of concert clips strung together, with a "cub reporter trying to get a big story" as the glue. Probably a good idea, as I don't think I could take a straight ABBA concert (and I am a fan!).

My 6-yo daughter recently heard "Dancing Queen" for the first time, and loves the song. We basically fast forwarded 75% of the movie, and watched that song and a few others... but I didn't delete it yet. I'll probably watch it through once.

Conversation as we watched it last night:
6yo daughter: (surprised) "This is old, daddy... how old are they now?"
Dad: "Um, I don't know. They're older than me, I watched them when I was little."
Daughter: "Ohhhh, are they dead now?"
Mom: ROFL!

Last winter I had strep throat. I was laying in bed with a 103 fever. My four year old comes in and wants to get in bed with me and I tell him no don't get close daddy is sick. He asks then if I'm going to die. I said no I'll be OK. He stood there quiet and I started thinking. I made a big mistake, I asked him if it "would make him sad if daddy died" ? He said" no, mommy would just make a new dad" ! I thought for a minute and realized that he was right. Bill Cosby said ,kids tell the truth.

Tomb-Raider 2 is on. My son is watching it.
Buddy of mine just came over....we are gonna go to the Mall and shop.
Bookstore, Jewelers, then BestBuy. We both have to get this shopping stuff out of the way. Better to be in pain with a friend while doing it.

We are saving BestBuy for last. At least it is a store that doesn't put us to sleep. The Bookstore is still enjoyable, however I always end up getting myself more books.

Bummer I wish the "Return of the King" EE version was out this weekend. Since the weather is crappy, cold and rainy...it would be a good weekend to view that movie. But then again I did get the new version of "Christmas Vacation", also "Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer" (1964 version) and the re-mastered "It's a Wonderful Life". Could watch those this weekend. I have had such terrible copies of "Wonderful Life" over the years...I am curious how good this one is. I bought a VHS version of that movie in the 80's from Wards...I swear it was a bootleg...just horrible...I threw it away.

Just got done watching "The Life and Death of Peter Sellers". Thought provoking film. Geoffrey Rush was excellent as Peter Sellers. There were shots that he looked and acted just like him. I just happened to catch it on my old downstairs Panny 27" TV. I did'nt care. I just sat there and watched the whole thing. Anyways the rest of the family was upstairs wrapping gifts and listening to Christmas music...I didn't want to invade them.

Makes me want to watch "Being There" again.

I also have to get a life..I am on this forum too much lately. :)

Sunday night: Hero - Good movie. Better than I thought it would be. I like how they showed each interpretation of the story. Watch it in Mandarin with subtitles if you see it.

Monday night: LOTR:ROTK EE - I saw the film in the theater and have not seen it since. Wow this movie is awsome. I still teared up a little when Aragorn sees the hobbits at te end. The EE includes parts that were in the book and deleted from the theater version. A great end to the collection. I also noticed that they included a "coupon" for the box to create your own box set if you have all the EEs. All you have to do is pay $3 for shipping. Very cool of them to do that.

Toxarch,

If you liked Hero, then you have GOT to see "House of Flying Daggers" (aka "Shi mian mai fu"). It is from the director of "Hero" and the female star of "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon".

I really liked both of those films, but was blown away by "House of Flying Daggers"! Amazing and visually stunning.

It is currently in theaters, but I watched it on my 12 foot diagonal screen at home via a DVD that a relative brought from Taiwan.

We really loved it. And man is she beautiful and talented.

I, Robot - I really enjoyed it. Great special effects, and it also gave the sub a work out. I have not read the book, so I didn't have that to do compare it to. But as an action movie, I felt it delivered.

Dodgeball - Based on the comments here, I decided to check it out. I have to say I am a bit embarassed by how hard I laughed at people getting hit while playing dodgeball.

Hero - Another one I liked a lot.

The kids and I watched LOTR-ROTK extended edition the other night, the additional 50 minutes really add to the story and help fill things out. My 10, 12, and 13 year olds were riveted the entire 4 hours, I think the extra time actually makes the movie seem shorter because the movie flows better.

I thought Morris was watching Home Alone too. :D I respect his opinion and I was flabbergasted. Why would HE watch that? I thought well maybe he is on Pain-Killers and had a weak moment. Then I "read" his statement again and realized what he was saying. Too Funny....

We watched I Robot again last night for my Friend's benefit. We both saw that in the theater (One of the few that I have seen in the last year) and he was impressed with the quality of the DVD. He has a decent Benq projector however, his sound system is weak(it is my old DAV-S300). So it was only justice that we watch it on my 34"HS510 with a better HTiB.

While some of the gags were funny, the lack of any plot just left me uninterested, and eventually I started dozing off (which doesnt help much). If you read the recent reviews over on IMDB, you will actually find those who think this movie is the best movie ever, I got a better laugh out of that than I did the movie itself.

You are a good son CaptnRandy! You guys got hammered with the snowfall. We got 6 inches up here in Lansing, and 8 inches down at work in Novi. That was enough for me to Close up the business for the rest of the week. To me it was an early Christmas present to get an extra day off. :D

We just got back from my Mother-in Law's home for their Christmas Eve ritual. My daughter got two CDs of some rock band I know nothing about so I quietly slipped away down stairs to the computer so she can listen to it. Also it was cool to record the evening on my new DVD camcorder. I already burned the DVDs to way cheaper DVD-R disks to give out to the rest of my wife's clan. It is so easy to just pop out the 3" disk and burn copies instead of downloading it.

So in the spirit of the thread...that is what we watched...Home movies only a few hours old. I was able to see who gave what to who, because there are so many Family members there it is hard to keep up.

Hey Randy, if you liked Pacino in Insomnia, get out an old copy of The Insider. Great Pacino, great Russel Crowe. We watched this again a few weeks ago with some friends, and had forgotten what a great movie it is.

We're just back after two weeks on vacation. We watched the Rose Parade Sunday morning off KTLA's HD broadcast (from TiVo), then a couple more Alias episodes from the Season 2 set. TiVo will keep the current season 'til we're caught up. :)

I agree - Crowe got lots of recognition for that movie, and rightly so, but Pacino gave a terrific performance in that as well - one of his best.

Last night was a new release double feature, Harold and Kumar go to White Castle, and Troy. H and K was OK, not great but enjoyable, just don't let the kids watch it. I enjoyed Troy, again not an all time great but entertaining.

Mrs Dood is watching HGTV. AAARRRGGHH!!! Her "To Do" list is growing bigger as we approach spring. I should say her "TO DOOD" list.

I could take the dog outside for a walk and somehow accidentally unscrew the cable feed. "Sorry Honey...The cable must be out...."

Better HGTV - I watch too much Food Network. Combine that with a home theater habit and the result is measured not in a growing to do list, but waist line!

Last night we had friends over and watched "Spider-man 2". Lots of fun and probably superior to the first.

Had the neighbors over last night and watched "Pirates of the Caribbean". Johnny Depp never fails to entertain! Later this week - "Troy" - for all my girlfriends - I'll have the "pause" button handy!

We played the "DVD Trivial Pursuit Scene It" today. That is a pretty fun game. Part of it is on cards and part of it is on the DVD. On one part, they have you watch a clip from a movie and then ask you a question about the clip afterwards. You have to really pay attention. Like they ask what was the last word said by a certain character, or what was the name on the mailbox second from the right, things where you have to analyze a short clip quickly. I'd recommend this game to anyone who enjoys seeing a lot of movies. It was a lot of fun. We also played a couple rounds of Simpsons Jeopardy which was also fun.

Good. Everybody should own Simpsons Jeopardy. :D

The Harry Potter movies get better. The first two ended too quick. The third one was actually pretty good.

Boy, you guys are still going strong here!

I've been away for a while. A lot has changed since my last post here.

The Morel Theater is no more.

My new display is a 43" Plasma in my apartment. All my gear is packed up in my closet.

2004 brought me two things I never thought I'd see.

The Red Sox victory and the end of my relationship with my wife.

Haven't really watched any movies lately. I tried to watch I Robot, but I'll have to watch it again because it was a rather raucus gathering and I missed the whole thing.
