I know this thread has been dormant for a little bit, but I was wondering if there was any chance that these units are still available? I'm a bit leery of buying a cheepy off of ebay, and I don't want to spend $300+ on something that has mixed reviews.. I'd much rather support the DIY community and buy something tried and true. Or does anyone have one that they bought that they don't need anymore?

I found you guys through a google search, and I read through all 17 pages, and it's excellent that you stuck with this project for over 3 years. Bravo! :)

Thanks
-Taz

Well I have a Component - VGA transcoder box for sale. Purchased from Lik-Sang just before they closed. It takes Component signals up to 1080i, and outputs a VGA signal at original quality (basically RGBHV). Its a neat little box and works rather well, I dont use it anymore hence the sale. PM me...

You can buy Beun's newest tcoder, not sure what they sell for but I think about $160 and you won't find a better one for twice the price period. Just do a search and you'll find the info on AVS.

Sorry if this is the wrong place, but I have been searching all day and can't find what I'm looking for.
Is there anywhere I can find plans to build a transcoder to go the opposite direction, from VGA to Component?
The first post in this thread mentioned such a thread, but I can't seem to find it.

Kim (buen) sells one pre-made. http://www.crescendo-systems.com/transcoder.html

Is there anywhere I could find a schematic to build one for myself?

Kim h`as not opensourced his designs...
Check National Semiconductor for an ASIC if you are bound and determined to go the DIY route.

Oh, never mind, I found what I was looking for, after a lot of looking. :)
The thread I referred to would be this one here, from the archive (with the posting of the schematics quick-linked) :

A very interesting read, if you have the time.

Well. From this thread, I saw you people work on a conversion from RGV to YUV space. How much more work is it to make a card with RGB/VGA input that Kim's design already has, and use a software application to record it to HDD ?
Just wondering what you people think ?

Is there any way to obtain one of these currently? I notice they are listed as "Out of Stock" on the Crescendo Systems site and I was hoping to find an alternative source for one.

Otherwise, I'm willing to build one if the PCB layout has been made available.

TY.

Several versions are commercially available.
http://www.curtpalme.com/Box1040.shtm is one I am considering.

I have a HDC2.1 new-in-box if you are interested. I meant to post it up on the classifieds a long time ago but never did. It's the one on the bottom of this page...

PM me or email me at buttonpuncher AT gmail DOT com (buttonpuncher@gmail.com) if you are interested. I'd like $75 including shipping for it. I could send you some pics if you are interested.

Thanks,
Ben
