eantolini52 02-02-07, 05:51 PM Dear Ernie,
We’ve been told that when Comcast takes over programming for the Adelphia system in Waterbury, CT later this year that they will add SNY to their line-up. We would suggest that you continue to follow up with your cable provider on the status of SNY in your areas.
Thank you for your email.

Wow, that's a totally different approach than NESN is taking when it comes to sharing this info with the public.
Brian Hakey 02-02-07, 07:55 PM Folks over in the S3 Tivo forums are asking about the rollout of Switched Video, I guess it may impact some channels on the Series 3 HD Tivo we have.

Yes, it will only be good for analog channels. Sell your S3 on eBay while you can!
Brian Hakey 02-02-07, 10:25 PM I think its a little premature to be selling anything! :)
No plans have been rolled out for SDV anywhere, and as slow as CT always is with technology, I think my S3 is safe for a while.

Are we going to get that free on demand service. I`ve only heard only bits

Yes. It's said to be coming mid-February, which is coming soon. If I were a betting man, I'd say next Thursdday the 15th.

harlenm 02-05-07, 09:22 PM My fox is out again. I hate this crap. And it will never be fixed because they won't admit there is a problem.
PaulieORF 02-06-07, 04:45 PM I spoke to someone at NESN today. They told me that discussions between them and Comcast about the Waterbury system will begin shortly, within a week likely. We should know much more about NESN's potential future in our area within the next few weeks.
PaulieORF 02-07-07, 10:49 AM I'm told that Comcast VOD could be integrated as early as next Tuesday. It is a major engineering undertaking, and I would not be surprised if we actually are without any VOD for period of time.
PaulieORF 02-07-07, 10:58 AM The 3/1 deletion date for HDNet and HDNet Movies has now been changed to 3/15. I am still not privileged to the replacement programming yet.
Brian Hakey 02-07-07, 08:10 PM Please also tell your informant to slow down as much as possible any notion of rolling out SDV. You should see the uproar in the S3 Tivo community forum! I hate to think the S3 could become a doorstop so quickly!
Chris112 02-12-07, 08:50 AM what is suppose to be the improvments with the Comcast VOD system? I personally hate the Adelphia version now..

Leaps and bounds above the Adelphia platform: from the user interface to the tons and tons of content, not to mention tons of HD VOD.
Chris112 02-12-07, 08:56 AM great... like i mentioned a long time ago, i think the adelphia system was/is awful and way to basic. I get so fustrated when i have a show set to record and find out it was a 2 hour (normally a 1 hour) episode and it only recorded the first hour. Also most other companies allow you to select to record first time airing... very nice feature.
I plan on getting a 32" or so 720p HDTV for my game room to mount on the wall and would prefer not to get a cable box. Not too many TV's with cable card slots, but some do have QAM tuners. Does any one have a channel list of non-scrambled channels available from Comcast?
I assume the premium channels will be scrambled (HBO, Cinemax and others), but how about non-premium HD and non-HD channels (ESPN, Music channels, Discovery and others)?

Not really sure what will change when Comcast takes over with their content. We still have the Adelphia / Telemedia content. The first post in this thread has the most up to date list.
I have a HD with a QAM tuner for about 2 years and have a CC slot but did got a cable card when I got my set because they could not supply one that worked. I'm still not sure what it buys.. so I never got one.
I get with a straight cable and QAM tuner these HD stations.
703 - WFSB (CBS)
707 - WABC (ABC)
718 - WNYW (FOX)
720 - WTXX (CW)
724 - WEDN (PBS/CPTV)
730 - WVIT (NBC)

Paulie, sent you a PM, and then went to send another one, but your inbox is full.
All 3 channels are out again. I can't deal with it anymore.
Brian Hakey 02-14-07, 08:10 PM harlenm, if you remember back, I had the same issues for months. Turns out my signal levels were too high. It took months to get Adelphia out, but when they did that was the issue. I havent had an HD channel problem since....not sure if that is the same problem affecting you?
harlenm 02-14-07, 08:17 PM I've had numerous techs out, shown them pictures of the signal levels, and they can't do anything. They all tell me the same thing, they can't diagnose a problem unless they are here when it happens. But that is impossible, and will never happen. They come and look at the signals, and they are perfect.
I never had an outage with directv that lasted for more than 5 minutes or so, and only during the worst of weather. I'm calling directv tomorrow and switching back.
Brian Hakey 02-14-07, 08:24 PM I was just as frustrated as you are. My signal levels were always fine except when it rained. This was last summer, so it rained one day, and they came out and found something filled with water. They fixed that....then this winter, when the temperature went below 20F, I lost all my HD channels. So again, I had to call and call, only to be told it wasnt cold enough. FINALLY, one day it was cold enough and they came and fixed it. I suspect maybe yours is weather related as well? If it is warm and sunny, they will never find it. It may be a "suckout" I think its called, where the cold causes the cables to shrink, causing the connection to be low. Anyway, if I didnt drop $800 on the new Tivo S3, I would be tempted to go back to DirecTV.
harlenm 02-14-07, 08:29 PM The new DVR from Directv looks really nice, and it's not that expensive. I hate the DVR from Comcast, it's only slightly smarter than a VCR, and not nearly as good as a Tivo. I think the only thing keeping me away from going back to Directv is that I'll have to mount a pole on the roof in order to get a signal, or mount the pool on the side of the yard and run a cable underground. I did that once before but gave up halfway cause it was a tough job to bury a cable. Then after I switched to cable I forgot about the 1/2 buried cable and ran over it with my lawnmower and ripped it to shreds, so I'd have to run new lines again, argh!
PaulieORF 02-15-07, 11:40 AM Some new for you all...
Video On Demand
They are in the process of switching over our VOD today, and we should see the new platform up and running tonight!
HD Channels
On 3/15, HDNet and HDNet Movies will be replaced by Versus/Golf HD and YES HD.
There should be more news coming soon, so stay tuned!
Brian Hakey 02-15-07, 11:49 AM Good news on YES HD....Paulie are you running both Comcast and DirecTV? I saw some posts of yours over on DBStalk. I was debating running my S3 along with an HR20. I dont think you have the HR20 though?
PaulieORF 02-15-07, 11:49 AM I forgot to post this earlier. Here is what my friend from Comcast said about DVR customers:
"Since you are physically moving to a new platform, you will need to reset any future recordings (series or other) on your DVR tomorrow since presets will be wiped out. We will be getting message out on this to all DVR subs tonight. Anything saved to your hard drive already will still be available."

For a time last yaer, I was running both. I haven't had DirecTV since July. When I did, the HR20 was not even available yet.
Brian Hakey 02-15-07, 11:51 AM Is this why my digital channels have stopped working last night? I only have analog channels at the moment. I have 2 CableCards in the S3, and I thought that was the issue. Please, please find out if cable cards were affected!!! I have called Comcast about 6 times since last night and they only want to schedule a truckroll, which they cant to until next week!! This sucks not having any channel above 96...

I have not heard anything about this. I doubt it has anything to do with the chanveover tonight. If I were you, I'd remove the Cable Cards, reinster them, and reboot your S3. If you're still having problems with your Cable Cards, you should try Comcast support and/or TiVo support.
Brian Hakey 02-15-07, 11:59 AM I did that all last night. None of the CSR's at Comcast have a clue about CableCards and can only schedule a truckroll. All I need someone to do at the headend is simply send a initialization hit to my 2 cards.....
Brian Hakey 02-15-07, 12:22 PM A comcast CSR just said that half of CT is without digital channels. I find this hard to believe, can anyone confirm this???

I just peeked in on my DVR through my Sling Box, and I browsed through severl digital channels and HD channels, and they are all working for me.

I wasn't having any problems with channels until they began the VOD switch and the software upgrade. Basically, my SD receivers are fine and get all channels, except the VOD does not work yet. My HD DVRs were getting no digital channels earlier this morning, but now are getting many more of them in. Also, earlier the Comcast menu was not coming up when I pressed Guide, and DVR was not working, but now those have been fixed. Seems they are still working on this switchover.

Are ESPN HD and INHD working for you? They are not working for me, just dark.
Brian Hakey 02-16-07, 09:59 AM It is still a cable card issue....they cant come out until the 21st, damn it....I have no channels above 96....

NO espn or INHD for me either. I also noticed if you put in a channel number that doesnt exist it gives you ??? instead of sending you to the next channel. The only thing I see different so far is when you press GUIDE... Everything else is the same so far.
I hope it gets straigntened out soon... I also still have all my programmed recordings in my Schedule.. So something is obviously not finished yet.
Chris112 02-16-07, 10:15 AM VOD is also not working for me.
PaulieORF 02-16-07, 10:19 AM They have also renamed, or changed the names on many channels. Like WFSBD instead of WFSBH, etc. Some new logos for channels that didn't have them before, like WHPX and WWOR.
Brian Hakey 02-16-07, 10:19 AM Chris dont feel bad, I have missed all my recordings since Tuesday evening. I guess I will miss Rome this week as well.

Sorry, I should have looked a little closer. ESPN HD and INHD are not working.
I saw a couple of HD channels working and assumed they were all working.

That is a blessing.. I HATED not having that.. The old system was so .... OLD..
I also have HBOHD when I do not even get HBO.. its not working for me, but while flipping through the channels it pops up but stays black like ESPN.
Chris112 02-16-07, 10:38 AM This still looks very adelphiaish.. I dont like it..

The "Adelphiaish" or "old" appearance is because of our boxes being Scientific Atlanta. Comacst runs the same SARA software as Adelphia did on the SA boxes. I guarantee that the Comcast guide you've seen was the I-Guide, running on a Motorola receiver. The I-Guide does look much better than SARA. Fortunately, Comcast is working on I-Guide software for the SA boxes, and should be pushing that out to our boxes some time later this year, if all goes to plan. What your guide looks like now with Comcast is the same way ever other Comcast sub with an SA box looks.

I still did not loose any of my scheduled recordings..

To fix the channel 2 thing, you need to go into settings and change the startup channel to "last channel" or a different static channel.

PaulieORF 02-16-07, 05:44 PM whats the latest on getting nesn in waterbury on comcast in 2007?
I'm talking to people on both sides, and it seems much more likely that it'll happen than in the past. However, negotiations do need to take place for such an agreement, and no one will share how those are going right now. I am getting regular updates on both sides when things are happening, so you know I'll post any info I can on here.
PaulieORF 02-16-07, 05:51 PM There is now a channel 1, which has a message saying DVR scheduled recordings will need to be reprogrammed. Looks like a change to the DVR service is still to come...
Brian Hakey 02-16-07, 06:04 PM I just wish my channels worked :(
harlenm 02-16-07, 06:40 PM All my future recordings are still there.
However, still missing FOX, ABC, and PBS, going on day 3 already.
Sunny44 02-16-07, 10:07 PM I have one digital cable box, one cable card and one Hd cable box.
1) The cable card is not getting any digital or HD channel as of today.
It displayed it was doing a firmware upgrade.
2) On the Digital box I'm missing most of the Encore channels.
Haven't check the HD cable box yet.
Finally got thru to COMCAST and had her send a reset to the Cable boxes but she said she can't do the same for the cable card. She also said that thing should be
cleared up by midnight. The reset didn't work.
Anyone having similar problems?
Anyone's cable card working OK after these COMCAST changes, and did you do anything to get it to work?
Thanks
Brian Hakey 02-16-07, 10:17 PM Finally! Yes Sunny44 my cable cards have been down for 3 days now. I am only getting analog channels, no digital or premium. I have called Comcast at least 10 times, having them re-hit the cards, but it hasnt worked yet. A tech is coming out on Wednesday, but I dont think its a problem on my end, so we will say. SUCKS being out this long though....please let me know if your cable card works again. Did she say the CableCard thing would be cleared up or the set top box?
Sunny44 02-16-07, 11:31 PM Brian,
She said that she could not send a reset to the cable card only the set top boxes, but that it would be reset when they were finsihed with the changes which are suppose to be completed by midnight tonight.
I got a feeling I'll be calling again tomorrow!
Did yours say anything about a firmware upgrade being performed? We saw this when we first turned on the TV today.
Do you have any set top boxes or just cable cards?
I want to know what happend to all the Encore digital channels I am missing on
the Digital set top box.
Brian Hakey 02-16-07, 11:45 PM I have a Series 3 Tivo, so I have two cable cards. It did say updating firmware this morning, then the box locked up shortly after. I rebooted it and called Comcast again to have them hit the cards again. Of course that didnt work. I am relieved to hear someone else is having CableCard problems in this forum. I only have the 2 cablecards, I do not have any set top boxes. I am on hold with Comcast now, but I may just call again in the morning. Keep me updated if you dont mind....any then can indeed send a "hit" to the cards. I always ask for the supervisor to do this, they are the only ones with a clue about the cards.
Brian Hakey 02-17-07, 10:31 AM Just called Comcast, after a 15 minute hold, they re-hit my cable cards but still nothing. Funny though, she mentioned a caller from Naugatuck who called in. She couldnt get his card to work either.....
PaulieORF 02-17-07, 11:28 AM If you guys are like me, and hate being on hold with Comcast support, give this a try:
http://www.comcastsupport.com/sdcxuser/lachat/user/userchatstartvideo.asp
It's Comcast's live online chat support. They will handle everything a tech over the phone can do, plus I have had better luck with these people than the phone support team. it's nice beacuse you don't have to sit there with the phone on your ear while on hold or waiting for the CSR to look something up.
Brian Hakey 02-17-07, 12:09 PM Thanks Paulie!!!
Like most everyone I have had tons of issues with the cable and the digital channels last few days. Unlike most of you I do not have a CC or box from 'Comcast/Telemedia' so I either receive my channels OTA or using the 700 series channels.. and they are gone.
I devoted some time today... my wife is annoyed that she has lost access to the digital stations... for some reason OTA WTNH-DT is bad at night and WFSB is gone with the 700 channels..
I rescaned the OTA and cable this morning and found ...
250 'TUBE'
235 WTXX-DT
233 WFSB-DT
232 WVIT-DT
I see CPTV FOX-5 and ABC (don't know where from yet) coming in on channel 106??? I can't direct select any of them yet but if I enter channel 106 I can channel advance through them and what looks to be VOD type stuff or advertisements ??
Has anyone decoded the station numbers yet ???

It's interesting, because those 200s that you listed are the channel numbers that Comcast uses around the rest of the state for those HD locals. The four you listed are actually on channel 86, and remap to those 200s for you. WNYW, WABC, and CPTV are all on channel 106, but are currently not being mapped to a number like the ones on channel 86.
Not sure why Comcast would be mapping those channels to the 200s yet, since we aren't even scheduled for a channel realignment yet.
CORRECTION: WFSB, WVIT, and WTXX are on channel 86, while The Tube is on channel 83.

Thanks for confirming what I see. I'm assuming there will be more pain before this works it self out. I wish I had a clue where to go without surfing all the channels. My Mitz doesn't handle this channel discovery very well..
But maybe it makes sense that they will map the stations to the same channel number they use in the state so CSRs don't get confused when they are handling problems..
Sunny44 02-17-07, 04:23 PM Brian,

If you wouldn't mind me asking a question... :)
What does the cable card get you? I tried to get one two years ago and Telemedia said it doesn't work.... so I stopped asking...
Brian Hakey 02-18-07, 09:06 PM It is the only way to run my Series 3 High Def Tivo. The new HD Tivo doesnt use a set top or cable box like the old ones, just 2 CableCards. I just have a feeling this is going to be ugly as far as getting them to work again. I left DirecTV after 7 years, and paid $800 for it,so I am pretty pissed off Comcast is screwing this up.
thawolfman 02-19-07, 12:10 AM I'm currently interesting in getting HD Service, and from the looks of it, all that means is paying for the HD box from Comcast, correct?
I'm currently on the Digital Preferred, paying $3.99/mo for that box and remote - So from looking at the website, I would drop that and end up with the $12.50/mo for the HD box?
That sound about right..

(A) Basic Service only cable box $1.10

(D) Digital High Definition Receiver $8.79
(E) Digital Video Recorder (DVR)………………………………………………………..$3.79
(F) Cable Card no charge

Well, if it helps you make your decision to get an HD DVR or not, the price for rental is exactly the same for a DVR vs a standard HD receiver, just the $9.95 a month fee for the DVR service.

Did you mean the DVR is the same price as the standard digital receiver? ;) I currently have an SD Tivo with a 400gb drive in it, so that'll do for now.
So $8.79 for the HD box...not bad :)

kcote75 02-19-07, 03:55 PM WASN'T SURE IF THIS WAS RIGHT THREAD-IF NOT PLEASE SEND A MESSAGE AND I WILL DELETE I have been having a CableCard issue for the past 2 weeks since I got it. 30 minutes every morning to reactivate the CableCard but then works fine the rest of the day. I had Metrocast come out and they said it's probably the Monster surge protector. I tried sending an email to Toshiba's customer help as directed in the manual-what a waste of time that was simply telling me I must call instead. Closed on Sundays so I'll be calling today but for the 1st time it just deactivated itself in the middle of the day while I was watching a show and then took 15 minutes to reload.
This was my 2nd CableCard through MetroCast and already had them do 1 visit (after the guy said it could possibly be the surge protector I found that odd but unplugged it anyways just as a trial) I just got back from the store I bought it just to see if they had any advice or if they had heard of any problems with this model and they said CableCard issues happen with numerous TV's and to call Toshiba and they would have me enter some codes updating the system for it to work correctly and if that did not help would send someone out.
Anybody have any suggestions or information of what the problem could be? Thanks

Well, this is the wrong thread, but I know some here have experience with CableCard, so perhaps they may be able to assist you.

Brian Hakey 02-19-07, 07:01 PM Doesnt sound related to the other users problem, but my 2 CableCards have been down the last 6 days. I only have channels below 100.....since others are reporting the same issues, I have my doubts that the tech coming on Wednesday can fix it. I know the problem is with how the head end is handling the cablecards. I think after the upgrade they screwed with the cards and who knows if they will ever work again?

I need more info, follow these instructions.
First, tune to one of the channels that is giving you problems. Now, on your receiver, press and hold the SELECT button. After holding it for a few seconds, you will see a mail icon on the receiver's display. Now let go, then press INFO on either the receiver or your remote. This will bring you to a diagnostic screen like this:

Will do. I'll get some baseline values and then check again when the dropouts occur.

I spoke to my Comcast person, and she asked me to ask you guys if you've tried the Host Device reset. I told her I assumed you did, but I need to verify that you all did this and you still have no digital channels. If you did try this, and it did not work, she will get her Engineering team on the case.
Brian Hakey 02-20-07, 10:20 AM These is no Host Device reset per say. I called in and had Comcast do a superhit, which was to remove the cards from my account and then re-add them. Can she be more specific on the Host Device reset. I have a Host Device screen, but its simply the Host ID #'s on each card.

Here's a copy and paste of what she said:
"Paul, I am not an expert on this by any means, however, there is a reset option through the menu that your friends should try. As I understand it, go into menu, host device, reset. If that has been tried or is not working, let me know."
PaulieORF 02-20-07, 10:24 AM Oh, and I found out about some QAM channels being remapped to the 200s. It has something to do with the merging of the old Adelphia SA system and Comcast's, less to do with realignment. Although, I should have some info on the channel realignment shortly. As is usual, I will share.
Brian Hakey 02-20-07, 10:28 AM Thanks Paulie, there is no such option to do that. All 1800Comcast CSR's can do is keep resending hits to the cards. I think only the local head end can recheck the matching of the Host ID's. I think all the Valley cable card Host ID's may have been dropped with the merge they did last week.
Brian Hakey 02-20-07, 10:32 AM I called again and they do have the correct ID's from each CableCard so maybe that is not it. As you know, I am not the only person who lost the digital channels etc. If you can pry her to ask the engineering dept. that would be great!

There really is no distinction between SD and HD, but rather the frequency that the channels are located on. Either way, -6dBmV is not horrible, but -15dBmV is extremely low. If in fact you are getting that number on a channel that does sometimes get the picture breakup, that's your problem. Before you call support for this issue, check and see if there are any loose connections, or splitters that can be eliminated. If none of these obsticles exist, then you definitely need a tech to come out. A few years ago I had severe signal issues, with numbers around that -15dBmB level. A tech came and ran a new drop from the pole, and my signal was boosted by about 20dBmV.
Good luck!

I have told Beverly at Comcast about you guys not being able to get your Cable Cards working, even with the host device reset like she mentioned. She'll have her engineering team (a very good one, from my experience with them) to take a look at it, if they haven't already.
As far as your Encore channels go: Contact Comcast customer support about this. It's likely something missing on your account, and they should just be able to add it back in.

Yes, you'll lose your freebies.
If you don't like putting up with the hold times, go to http://www.comcastsupport.com/sdcxuser/lachat/user/userchatstartvideo.asp and chat with a Comcast rep that way. Tell them that your 3250 is not receiving the programming that you are paying for, they should know what to do then.

Who cares about CT locals? During football season they show the Patriots instead of the Jets on CBS, which really annoyed me as I'm a Jets fan.
The only thing I'll be missing over what I have now is InHD and CWHD.

I am in Jacksonville Florida. Two TVs with cablecards. We lost the Comcast Encore stations a few days ago. I have been on the phone with Comcast and the final word is that it is a known system wide problem - and they are working on it. So - I guess at this point - there is nothing to do except hassle Comcast to get the problem fixed - and to ask for refunds for service you're not getting. Robyn

People living in New Haven County get CT locals, plus CBS, FOX, and NBC from NY, no ABC. But, the NYC locals are only in SD, not HD. And, no regional sports networks (like YES, NESN, etc) are in HD, only the SD version.

Brian Hakey 02-22-07, 04:02 PM Yes that is what I meant. Comcast tech called me today, and repeated the same mantra from the last 3 days. The supervisors know about it, but it could take days, weeks, or months to fix, they simply have no idea.

I would bank more on days or weeks, months might be a stretch. Either way, credits should be coming your way after this.
Brian Hakey 02-22-07, 04:09 PM I will probably be calling DirecTV tonight to place an order. I will keep Comcast for another week or so and see if things come back online. If so, I may run them both. D* may win out on the MLB package which I get every year. Now I just have to decide if I want to hang on to the S3 Tivo with lifetime subscription or eBay it.
qtdragon 02-22-07, 09:41 PM I see alot of people bolting fom Comcast to satellite. My cable service is not as sophisticated as most in here, but if SNY is not on my TV by April 1st, I too will be calling the satellite companies. Comcast, are you listening ?????
Brian Hakey 02-22-07, 09:47 PM I think it is a two way street. Lots of unhappy DirecTV users (mostly thier new HD DVD, the HR20) are coming back to cable for the Series 3 Tivo.
PaulieORF 02-23-07, 06:42 PM Is DVR working for anyone here? Came home from work, and get a Not Authorized message on channel 800. Is it just me?
harlenm 02-23-07, 10:40 PM Well, my HD channels are back and working again. Have to call Jeff and let him know. He told me they are going to do everything they can to keep me as a customer.
I'm thinking about staying with Comcast for now as I don't know if I want to get involved with a 2 year contract.

That's good to hear. Now, it's only good if they're back as a result of something they did, not as part of this ongoing pattern.
Brian Hakey 02-23-07, 11:04 PM harlenm, my DirecTV install is set for Monday. I am actually going to run both Comcast and DirecTV.....I will lower the packages so the programming/money works out as close as I can get them. A few digital channels have returned on my end as well....I know its not finalized but D* may be the only provider of the MLB package and the Sunday Ticket. I really enjoy both of those, so I will get D* pretty much for those purposes only. I just hope Comcast fixes the CableCard issue soon.
harlenm 02-23-07, 11:15 PM If Directv had their old cancelation policy still in effect, I'd definatley switch. You used to be able to send your equipment back in lieu of an ETF. But now it's 12.50 for every month left in your contract, and you have to return the equipment anyway.
PaulieORF 02-23-07, 11:42 PM My DVR works now. They had to change something on my account to fix it. No idea what could have happened between last night and this afternoon that could have screwed that up, but oh well.
Brian Hakey 02-24-07, 07:58 AM I hate the 2 year commitment as well, but as I said I was going to get D* anyway for the sports packages. My channels are slowly coming back up so hopefully Comcast is still fixing th cablecard problem.

Those are incredibly low signal levels, and I can say with confidence that they are the direct cause of your VOD woes.

I would think this should include SNY HD. Considering that letter that was sent out stating any basic channel that has an available HD channel will be included in our HD package.

Something worth noting: Yesterday, if you asked anyone from Comcast if there was any new on SNY, they'd say no news. A few hours later they announced that they came to an agreement. I'd expect a similar thing to happen if a NESN deal is negotiated, in that we'll have no idea when it's coming, if it's coming. There will be little news leading up to any potential announcement.

It's unfortunate timing for you, but the DVR thing is a result of a billing change. This happened to me as well. I guess Adelphia used to bill DVR service with the rental of the box, while Comcast now bills DVR as a seperate service. I had to get a CSR to fix it for me.

Whatever the reason, it's inexcusable that they would turn off the service because of a billing change. How many thousands of others were inconvenienced because of this? If it shows on my account that I have DVR service, and they change the system, then I should be billed for DVR service in the new system. And the fact that I had to spend 30 minutes on hold to watch programs that I've already recorded is ridiculous.
What's going to happen next? How many other problems are they going to create by switching systems?

Video On Demand hasn't worked in Beacon Falls, CT since Comcast took over. All I ever get is the "Please Wait...." screen. I have one regular HD box and 2 HD DVR boxes + Broadband Internet. No issues with anything else at the moment.
Maybe I should schedule a service call soon. See if the no VOD is signal strength related.

Here's what I believe is happening:
You're VOD problem is related to signal strength. Why do I think this? I had one SD box that never had the Comcast VOD working. Checking the signal strength on the box, I noticed it was considerably lower than the other boxes, with working VOD. But, I didn't notice any problems with any other channels, just VOD at the "please wait" screen. Anyway, I did some research and went with a drop line signal amplifier, juicing up the signal for all boxes. Now that box has a considerably better signal, and now has fully functional VOD.
But, going back, I think that there is a problem with Comcast's network in certain neighborhoods which is causing VOD to be extremely sensitive to signal strenght, not working when it normally should be with the same signal strength.
Bottom line, calling for a tech to come out is your best option to get either the problem documented, or your signal improved.

Here we are on March 13, and it's inconceivable to me that if Comcast were going to offer NESN in 2007 why they wouldn't want to announce it by now. Waiting until the last minute only encourages those who are preparing for the upcoming season to switch to DirecTV. Opening Day is less than 3 weeks away, and they would appear vulnerable to already losing some die-hard baseball fans since it appears that Extra Innings is going to be an exclusive for DirecTV.

Because of some new bizarre rules set by CBS, WFSB is not allowed to show us this game in HD, even though others around the country are getting it in HD.
derrickp 03-15-07, 07:59 PM Sounds crazy to me, whose interests would that be infringing on? If that is true who is making these rules to undermine the consumer so I can write my senator. The reps you spoke to must not be informed as to why it's not in HD on WFSB. If you go to the main programming forum, you'll see a thread about the NCAA tournament which explains these new rules. They are ridiculous, but they are 100% fact.

At least here in Florida - there is a major channel reorganization going on. Premium stations being switched to the Encore slots - and Encore going elsewhere. The changeover date is 4/10. Check with your local people and find out if something similar is going on in your part of the world. Note that our cablecards are working fine except for the Encore channels. Robyn

PaulieORF 03-21-07, 09:06 AM So CSHD (Comcast Sports HD) which presents programming from both the Golf Channel and Versus in HD was added this morning, after the deletion of the HDNets. Only problem is that that channel (at least in the Waterbury system) is giving us program guide data for Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic, with the Comcast SportsNet nightly shows, along with Washington Capitals hockey and Wizards NBA games. I've informed my friend in Marketing about this, so hopefully it will be corrected soon and actually reflect the real programming for the channel.

On an unrelated note, those who are wanting NESN to be added from Comcast, you should keep an eye on the Waterbury Republican American newspaper. Today, Joe Palladino announced the plans of a Wolcott police officer, of an organized protest outside of the Comcast offices if NESN is not added to our lineup by opening day (4/2). In today's article he quoted some of the many emails he received from people about the situation and the protest. I'm sure that if a protest is needed, more info will be posted in the paper and on the website (www.rep-am.com). I will post any info about this potential protest on here as well.

Don't worry, SNY is 100% surely going to be added next Thursday. I spoke to my contact at Comcast about the lack of knowledge about this by the CSRs, and the said that something ahppened to the CSR notices, and the one about SNY was retracted in error. It's not in Comcast's best interest to have a Mets fan call to see if we're getting SNY, only to be told no, and then go sign up for DirecTV. To rest your nerves, here is her response to me when I asked her about the CSRs saying there are no plans for SNY:
"Nothing has changed. SNY will still be added in former Telemedia areas only on 3/29. I will reinforce this with CSRs, who may be confusing this with the fact that we are not launching SNY in some other areas."
PaulieORF 03-21-07, 07:26 PM YES HD is currently being broadcast on QAM channel 81-2, unencrypted. Of course this means little right now as there is not Nets game tonight, but likely means that the channel could actually go up prior to next Thursday.

When you say you don't see CSHD, do you mean ti's not in your guide at all, or is it just a blank screen when you tune to 770?
As far as on demand goes, what exactly happens when it's not working? Do you get stuck at the "Please wait" screen when you tune to the ON Demand channel?

mikeinshelton 03-22-07, 01:45 PM I scanned through my HD channels this morning and did not see CSHD. I started at 703 and channelled up and never saw it. I will check channel 770 tonight.
My in-demand sometimes gets stuck on "please wait", sometimes comes back with an error message(something like "unable to load your selection-call your cable operator") and sometimes it works. I called them and they first told me to unplug the box. After doing this, it still did not work so I called back and they told me that they knew that they were having problems in my area. It was working again this morning. This intermittent condition has been going on for over a week.

Your VOD problems could be related to a low signal issue. Do you ever experience pixelation or picture breakup on any digital channels? If so, there's a good chance that's your problem.
PaulieORF 03-23-07, 09:52 AM Do you guys on the Seymour sytem have CSHD yet?
chasbox 03-23-07, 12:59 PM I just checked and it's working
PaulieORF 03-23-07, 01:00 PM I just checked and it's working
Any chance that you guys have the correct guide data for the channel?
chasbox 03-23-07, 01:07 PM It seems to be right. It says paid programing and thats what is showing.(Bobby Jones golf clubs)
mikeinshelton 03-23-07, 01:18 PM AS of this morning, channel 770 was not a valid channel in Shelton. It shows ??? when I try to tune to it. My VOD is working. I did see some pixalation last night but then it corrected itself. If that means low signal. do I need to make a service call?
ccarey23 03-23-07, 01:27 PM I am in shelton and just got 770 today.
chasbox 03-23-07, 07:13 PM I was wrong. The Guide listings for CSHD don't match the programing
chasbox 03-24-07, 10:39 AM Now, this morning the guide matches the program. The sound was a little off yesterday.
Seems better today.

They did indeed fix the guide last night.

What channels were you seeing pixelation on? Was it a VOD program that was pixelating?
