SHergenrader 06-09-09, 05:10 PM If you look at the slides, the "Distant Networks" law is changing with the digital transition. Which means if Dish does not provide a local affiliate(of the big networks) in our area they would be legally allowed to provide us with an alternative until they get the local affiliate for that area. At least that is what I gathered from the slides. But I think they provide us with the big 4 so it wouldn't apply to people who subscribe to Shreveport locals.
Or maybe he is saying that we might be able to "move" and now get Lafayette HD or Baton Rouge HD since we are probably in their spot beam.
Ah ok, I just thought I was missing something. It's just annoying that we don't have our locals here yet in HD when there are plenty of smaller markets that already have theirs. Errrrrr.

Moving has always been a option with a couple of markets you guys can pick from. But yes, I'm talking about the Distant Networks part. But remember! These are not provided by DishNetwork. They are provided by All American Direct. They lease space on DishNetwork's satellites and the signal will come down to your DishNetwork box though. Here's a bit more info in this article:

On Saturday go check out this page...it should be updated by then: www.mydistantnetworks.com
Pre Vamp 06-10-09, 12:13 PM What's up with this spot on KNOE that I've seen for the past 2 weeks talking about KNOE being available on Dish?
Dish will also carry MSNBC HD on the official launch date of 6/29.
Over the years I've noticed that the month of June is when many cable and satellite systems add channels.
If Direct doesn't add more HD soon, I'll cut them loose as I did with cable and go with Dish.

96corvette 06-10-09, 07:07 PM I did the *move* to Dallas, the HD quality video/audio is very very good. None of this going to SD when there is a storm warning. Local news in real HD. When Shreveport goes HD on the birds I might move back, but I am lovin the quality HD

Per the charlie chat, Dish will launch MSNBC-HD July 8th(The rest of the channels in the pic are on dish now)

Well we will see. The slides say it applies to digital TV subscribers whose provider does not offer locals or does not offer ALL locals (ie. missing an affiliaye such as ABC)
Scott's blog is relying on the ambiguity of the words "acceptable digital signal". If "acceptable" becomes an issue it can quickly cleared up with the simple clarification from the FCC official in the Osama Administration. (If he has appointed one yet)

96corvette 06-12-09, 08:33 AM I read a thread that said all 4 networks in HD from AAD was $34.99 per month -WAAAAY TOO much!
digiblur 06-12-09, 10:32 AM
I can't see it being that high...we will find out tomorrow though.
gbranch 06-12-09, 12:53 PM Can anyone confirm if KLTS has their digital signal up on channel 24 yet and if they are at higher power?
They shut off the analog at 7:00 AM this morning.
dennispap 06-12-09, 01:06 PM
I can't see it being that high...we will find out tomorrow though.
This is from another thread. If so, that is too much!!
9.99 per network (one network feed only. Chicago for Eastern and Central, LA for Mountain and Pacific)
7.49 per network if you have SD as well (plus the 3.49 for sd)
34.99 for all 4 networks
24.99 for all 4 networks if you have SD as well (plus the 12.99 for sd)
Also if you order quarterly prior to July 15th the third month is free for the first quarter.
You can start to order them this Saturday from 9am - 10pm Sat and noon - 9pm on Sunday
windham9 06-13-09, 09:57 AM Still some analog stuff up this am.
Couldnt get a clean rescan yet, way too much dx. All the Monroe stuff and lots of Mississippi coming too strong. Saw KAQY in HD first time lol.
I'll rescan mid day, cant tell anything with all this tropo.
gbranch 06-13-09, 02:12 PM Tropo was strong this morning from both east and west. Got KVUE, KXAN, and KEYE from Austin, KBTX from Bryan, KWBU from Waco, KDFW, and several PBS stations from Misssissippi.
I think that with analog now gone the door is wide open for digital DX'ing. It is also a lot easier to identify stations now.
Still no KLTS though. Seems that they are having some problems getting their digital signal up at full strength.
Longview's KCEB analog 54 is gone, but no KCEB-DT on 51 yet.
windham9 06-14-09, 12:50 PM Tropo strong again this am, at 8am not one shreveport local would work. Plenty of far away stuff to watch. I pointed west yesterday after my post, got lots of stuff for the first time. You are right about the dx door being opened.
KTAL had a live local church service up in HD this AM. KTBS analog still on, video of converter box install.
KTAL & KSLA both need weather insertion into HD. Wonder how long it takes one of these two to pony up, loser gets last place in the local HDTV conversion race. (KTBS won) This should have been done before feb9.

What I want are the ever growing list of HD channels that are available on Dish and not Direct.

The Lifetime channels and yes, every single channel available in HD.
Direct made bold promises over the years about the number of HD channels and they have not lived up to the hype.
Direct sent a message I've had to acknowledge OK to twice in the last few weeks reminding me that anytime I'm watching a 480i channel, I can simply press the RES button on my Direct receiver and upgrade to a 720p or 1080i. LOL
Their monthly newsletter that arrived yesterday said nothing about any new HD channels, but something about the new HOPE channel. Sounds like another boring religion tier addition. They were touting their new 1080p capability.
I would grade my installation experience with a F. The people they've sent here out of Jonesboro were rude, rough, and angry the whole time.
I want a FCC that makes old people angry.

While I wouldn't mind having those channels in HD you can't really complain about DirecTV. There are plenty of channels that DirecTV has that Dish doesn't. They are just now about to get FX HD and Speed HD which Direct has had for quite a while now. DirecTV is far superior than Dish in my opinion. If you hate them so bad quit bitching and go to Dish. I'm sure you will be very missed.

The local church service that you are referring to was for First United Methodist Church of Shreveport. We are the only local church service that is broadcasting in HD at this time. I hope that you enjoy our service.

Well, guys, I am not sure I understand what you are talking about, but if I surmise correctly you are referring to long distance reception. I picked up KTBS (analog) with the digital conversion info running. It was really fading in and out, so it took me several minutes to make out the very large station ID logo. So, not really a watchable picture, but I thought you might be interested. This was at approximately 7:30 p.m.
96corvette 07-02-09, 07:59 AM DIRECTV on Wednesday announced the addition of seven new local channel markets to its HD lineup, bringing the satellite provider's total to 133 cities representing more than 91 percent of U.S. TV households.

That's all I can confirm right now.
Happy 4th of July.

Stay in Dallas, and have the s'port ota as a backup.

Don't get excited...those are MPEG2 SD only. There's really no beam covering the entire Shreveport DMA very well. If I remember correctly Natchitoches was cut off. But I could be wrong as I haven't looked at the maps in a while.
If I were in Alexandria I wouldn't "live" in Alex. Those Alex locals are on the same transponder as the Baton Rouge HD locals. ;)

Geaux Tigers 07-19-09, 12:59 PM LOOKING FOR HAVA OR SLINGBOX ACCESS FOR COX CABLE LSU SPORTING EVENTS
I live in Shreveport and I subscribe to DirecTv. I have been with DirecTv for over 10 years and would not switch back to cable. However, I am envious of Cox Cable subscribers in one area. That area is LSU Sports since Cox signed an exclusive with LSU regarding some sports content. I have a HAVA Titanium HD hooked up to my HD DVR from DirecTv. The HAVA allows me to watch content from DirecTv (live and recorded)from anywhere in the world remotely on my laptop as long as I have an internet connection. The HAVA is connected to my HD DVR and streams content live from the HD DVR to my laptop. HAVA's competitor Slingbox does the same thing.
I am looking to share my HAVA account with someone who has a HAVA or Slingbox connected to a Cox Cable Box. In exchange I would want access to your account so I could watch the Cox Cable exclusive LSU Sporting events.
If anyone is interested in such a reciprocal arrangement then please send me a PM. I posted this here because I did not know where else to post it and because I live in Shreveport.

smackman1 07-20-09, 02:23 PM How far does the Dallas spotbeam go into Louisiana? I live in Linville,Louisiana zip code 71260. Thats in "Way" North Louisiana 30 miles above Monroe Louisiana.
I am a Dish Subscriber and I would like to "move" to a Market where there locals are in HD.
Monroe is my current locals and I have never read anything about Dish going HD with Monroe, Louisiana Locals.
Maybe when Shreveport gets Locals in HD I will be in that spotbeam to be able to "move"?
Where is the most updated spotbeam map that shows the spotbeams for locals in HD in my area or residence?
Thanks in advance

Currently there isn't really a spotbeam that covers the entire Shreveport DMA well so I don't think we will see any HD locals there soon..but I could be wrong since Spotbeam 37 has room for you guys..but it doesn't go far enough south. I assume you are on the western arc service with 110/119/129, so I won't post anything about the eastern arc locals.
The channel data is almost real-time(delayed by 15 min)

NBC33 and fox44 do ellen,.oprah, entertainment tonight in HD

Also, for some reason, fox44 will show a "fox44 in hd" logo even on programs that arent in hd!

Hahaha, no doubt. I so thought KTAL would be the last of the main three and here it is KSLA??? Just unreal. I'm glad I don't watch anything on CBS besides golf on the weekends. And it's so annoying having to watch in SD with those damn weather crawls.

Lets just hope for nice weather on Sundays this fall. CBS spends a bundle on HD NFL coverage, KSLA please spend the money so we can enjoy HD NFL in all weather.

tbulliard 08-06-09, 08:49 AM Hello,
The fiber length that was missing was installed yesterday at our local pickup facility, they are now in testing mode. This lasts usually 30 days.
That's all I can confirm right now.
Happy 4th of July.

How did you know that D* was planning on August 12? I didn't read that anywhere. Just read they are going to have them sometime in August. Hopefully it is next Wednesday. :D

at this time I have no further info on the Sat launch dates, I'll keep you posted if I hear anything. We have a visited scheduled today with them, maybe I can find out.
meathead76 08-07-09, 01:03 PM any idea which Sherveport HD channels will be added to directv?
I know the big 4 networks 3 6 12 and 33 but how about PBS, MyNet, and/or CW
ksla-Eng 08-07-09, 05:10 PM Hello again,
since sometimes last week, KSLA has been experiencing problems with the Transmitter exciter. We diagnosed today a faulty pre-correction board, and parts should arrive Tuesday. In the meantime, viewers can experience difficulty with reception that will look like a loss of level, but isn't. If you are having such difficulties, a re-scan may or may not be helping.
On behalf of the KSLA team, I apologize for this inconvenience, and thank you all for your continued viewership and support.

Neither Dish nor Dave deliver the proper bandwidth.

WTF? I live in the country and have a outdoor OTA Antenna to recieve my locals in HD.
I also "moved" to Baton Rouge and recieve there locals.
Why would someone living in the country not want a OTA Antenna? Heck, I live 55 miles from 2 of my OTA Transmitters and they come in at a smoking 90-100% signal strength with a CM 4228, CM 3041DSB preamp 20 foot in the air.
I love my OTA outdoor Antenna and I live in the country. We pipe sunshine in where I live.

I have an outdoor antenna. I live north of Magnolia Arkansas. I think its roughly 85+ miles to the OTA transmitters. I get a great HD picture 75% of the time from channel 12 and 3. Fox 33 HD 5% of the time. Never can get 24, 21, and 45.

My CM 3671 & 7777 preamp @ 40' always gets 2 each of all 4 major networks in HD , & PBS-CW-Mynet in HD. Over a dozen SD subchannels. 55-70 miles, no problem.

ksla-Eng 08-13-09, 02:30 PM For those of you eager to receive locals in HD via satellite, this was soft-launched yesterday morning apparently.
Below is a copy of an internal correspondance describing how to tune it.
For any questions related to this service, please contact your service provider, not the local affiliate.
"The HD channels share the same number assignments in the guide, as the standard definition versions. IE, channel 12 shows up twice, as SD and HD. The next time your program guide refreshes, everything should show up. Or, if you enter 12 in your remote then enter it again, you should see both versions, one after another. If you enter 12-1, that will force the HD (assuming you don’t have an antenna hooked up – if you do, entering 12.1 will give you the antenna reception).
This is all assuming you have one of their newer generation HD receivers – H20 or 21, HR20 or 21 - and a 3 or 5-LNB dish"

You are gloating over dumbed down inferior picture coming from someone you are paying to deliver the feed over satellite dish? They will NEVER be able to what you can get OTA. You will notice it during football season.
Do you know what 'macro blocking' is? If not, you soon will!!!
Get an antenna and get the best picture you can receive. Even beats cable HD. And it is FREE at that!!!! OTA from "most" of the local networks.(sans channel 6 of course, hehehehehe [or 12's SD weather gaffs]) :p

Thanks KSLA-Engineer. Last time I was visited the transmitter blockhouse, I think it was a Gates/Harris transmitter in use...that was around 1974. How times change.
Good luck with your Thomson repair.

You're right, KSLA has the capability of inserting static logos in HD indeed, but not live video signal out of the Weather Alert computer. Not yet. As mentioned earlier, it is a know issue that will be addressed in time.
Thanks.

Ha, that's weird. I guess they were having issues with the HD feed and therefore had to go to the SD feed. Was wondering why when I switched to the game it was in SD. Thanks for posting a pic of the problem.

That's like their Lafayette station Fox 15 KADN. Recently a Fox NFL Preseason game on a Thursday went SD at 9pm, the following Saturday a very long MLB game between the Yankees & Red Sox was in SD all Saturday afternoon, went HD at 6pm, then 2&1/2 men in SD.
They've tried for about 2 years to air 2&1/2 men in HD but half of the airings are in SD, they just can't seem to get it right.
Like KMSS, KADN Lafayette seems like there is no one viewing the on air signal. It's like there is no one in master control.
They have Legal IDS in HD but the first second of the 5 second ID is in SD then it glitches to HD. The decided to use a black background for their HD ids, but black is the color used as a background for spots and promos that are not in HD, IOW: trying to match the black sidebars.
KADN is the infomercial jukebox of South La and their other station WNTZ isn't much better. KADN is why I keep my Alexandria antenna pointed to Monroe for Fox 14 KARD.
Their Baton Rouge stations WVLA and WGMB have great signal strengths but are snafu city with the HD. WVLA has had issues a very long time.
Master control operators, WAKE UP & PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT IS GOING OUT OVER THE AIR!
dbriana 09-15-09, 02:25 PM I called again this morning after it not being on again last night. They said the HD is fine and was on Sat Sun and Monday, that their in house signal showed it working! I said well not on my Comcast and over the air antenna, may need to check a source outside of station.
This is from a post I did in February concerning KMSS!

Pre Vamp 09-16-09, 11:50 PM Looks like KNOE has some local HD or widescreen SD going on. I saw the sports sponsorship going into Aaron's 10pm sportscast.
Earlier today I had Dr. Phil muted, which is always best and I caught the last nanoseconds of a local client either in HD or widescreen SD.
I also like being able to see news and sports from WWL on KNOE's news.
KALB Alexandria has been off the air since 11am Friday.
Repeal TELCOM 96
haley-SEA 09-17-09, 11:37 AM I took a check on Tuesday night of KTVE during Leno's 9pm show. KTVE's sister station KARK (Little Rock AR) can do inserts of HD capable storm graphics as well as play back some HD syndicated programming (Entertainment Tonight). KTVE is still running the older-style storm graphics and cannot pass through network programming during these times.
Disclaimer, I live in the southern fringe of KARK's OTA viewing area and in the Little Rock TV market. I can also get El Dorado stations KTVE and KETZ (post-June 12) OTA.
dufusdad 09-17-09, 03:26 PM Finally talked with the assistant chief engineer at KMSS.He said that last weekend they had issues with new Fox "flash" equipment they had received. He said it also had to do with their Directv equipment. He also said that it was a choice b'twn HD with lip sync issues or sd without.I woud have chosen the HD option.
I suggested that they run a "crawl" when they have issues not only so we will know but for goodwill toward the station. He said somethig about it depending on which platform you are getting their feed from. Can't say I understood.
When we talked about control operators he said that they are a fully automated station and there is no manual switch flipping. And he said,in fact, they have only a few control room operators any more. How many does it take????
At any rate he promised HD widescreen this weekend. It's a Saints game.
96corvette 09-19-09, 03:32 PM thank god I *moved* to Dallas there are no such *problems* with Dish Network and the Dallas market. IMHO Direct TV should not have even put up Shreveport HD until everything is in order.
Eventually until the new Splicer is installed (Fall next year) this is going to effect ever D* HD market.
FOX is now in contact with D* to try and iron out the issues with the HD conversion process.
HA HA are you kidding me! fall 2010? if I was on DT I would be raising hell
Pre Vamp 09-19-09, 10:28 PM KALB Alexandria came back on the air after a week off.
They said during the news that the work on the tower was to move to a top mounted installation in order to improve reception in the areas in the northernmost part of their viewing area.
I wonder if KNOE, KAQY or KLTM are planning to increase power like many other VHF stations are doing.
I'm a top mounter, baby.

Been better about HD, but I have noticed a decrease in KMSS signal strength at times.
Adding a fixed Wext UHF antenna & preamp, run that to my 2nd hdhomerun dual network tuner, give me 51/56 fulltime. Be able to leave the main antenna pointed at shreveport always.

KSLA primetime I watched this week was good, but they have issues during Y&R for sure. My antenna is pointed at Kytx19 currently due to this.
Ronald_Jeremy 10-02-09, 01:10 AM OK... A suggestion here to KSLA.
I popped over to 12-2 to watch Moonraker.
I have the crawl across the top (covering 5% of screen) with map over the bottom of screen with affected Parishes.( 25%-33%)
If I get 12-2 then I get 12-3. Why not just run a small crawl warning of bad weather and to tune to 12-3 if I care?
After all, if peeps can get 12-2, then they can get 12-3.
BTW, decent PQ on 12-2 KSLA guys.
Since this is an ArkLaTex forum, anybody have the video of Ed Dur.... anczykcky(sp?) running like a little bizznitch from on screen when a tornado hit downtown several years ago?
ksla-Eng 10-02-09, 10:50 AM Hello Ronald_Jeremy,
Great suggestion, with a solid reasoning behind it. We thought along the same way, but then realized that we have a problem with, you guessed it; cable outlets.
See there are those pesky laws that on one hand allow small cable outfits to >not< carry all of our stream, and most of them pick an choose and of course carry ThisTV but drop our Weather because the Weather Channel is more "sexy".
Then there are laws that say that if you are a TV station, you're pretty much obligated to give life saving information to the viewing public.
As a result, KSLA elected to duplicate the Weather Bug on ThisTv, because there are viewers that may rely on that one channel during a storm.
One could validly argue that the information is redundant with EAS (Emergency Alert System), but experience has shown us that the Weather Bug will alert the viewers ahead of time, with more precision geographically, than the standard "The Shreveport National Weather Office has issued a "severe thuderstorm" - "watch" for the following "Parishes" and-or "Counties" yada yada. The same reasoning applies for 12-1 too.
I am sorry that last night's weather event spoiled your viewing experience, let's just hope that Moonraker makes it to Hulu.com one day !!
As a side note, we have been dealing with equipment issues this week, that are now resolved. This is why there were some back-and-forth HD SD switching happening, and some blips and pops here and there.
As always, I appreciate the feedback I get from this Forum, and I thank you all for your expert comments.
windham9 10-12-09, 05:57 PM One day last week I turned to KNOE, I can sometimes get the Monroe stations, and they were inserting weather into HD during Price is Right. KYTX & KSLA were both SD due to weather. Insertion into CBS is possible for a small market affiliate.
KYTX was HD during Y&r this am but not KSLA. We'll see what happens tonight. Monday night has good CBS programming. Shame to waste it for a minor weather "watch". A warning I understand. But to to run 7pm-10pm in SD for a minor watch, what a waste of great primetime.
legierk 10-12-09, 06:50 PM I'm moving back (after 22 years away in military) to Shreveport (well, the ArkLaTex) in December. I've been spoiled with my internet and HD on the east coast (currently have Cox).
Looking like going back home is going to be like going back in time 10 years. Short of putting up my HD antenna, what are my options? I'm interested in high speed internet also.
Unfortunately, I intend to live in a rural area which is more important to me than a good TV picture (can always just watch BD if I have to). Is satelite the only solution?

KNOE, KAQY Monroe and KALB Alexandria can all insert their weather info or news scrolls without turning off their HD programming. Next year is an election year and I would hate to see TV stations have an evening or two of SD programming when it's not necessary.
windham9 10-13-09, 11:48 AM Last night KSLA looked great, no weather "SD". Weather possible again tonight, not having any "pretty" fall weather.
burgranger 10-14-09, 12:02 PM Legiark,
Where are you going to be living? Shreveport, Bossier, Minden... etc.?
legierk 10-14-09, 01:19 PM Don't know yet....haven't bought a house. Am looking online though. Searched the available ISPs (and Cable/Sat w/ HD) and it is really sporadic. What's available in Haughton may not be in Greenwood, and Benton is different than Minden. Just looking for folks who have had good service and can provide some ideas.
burgranger 10-14-09, 11:35 PM I live in Bossier and have Suddenlink Internet and Phone and have Dish Network Tv. The speeds are a steady 8mb Down and 1/2 MB Up. Shreveport and Greenwood have Comcast and the speeds are a little Quicker. As far as Benton and Minden go I don't know.
Good luck finding a House. Bossier seems to be pretty nice but Shreveport is hit or miss when it comes to decent Neighborhood.
legierk 10-15-09, 09:01 AM Suddenlink sounds new to me. Dad had Comcast....he didn't care for the internet speeds, but I would be lucky to live where they were available. Anyhow, thanks for the info. I'll do some searches. Dish huh.....

If it is in Shreveport or South Bossier I would not choose to live in North Bossier.
It is a nice area and booming. But there are only two routes north/south out of north Bossier and they are very strangled during rush hour. And bad most of the other times. Bossier Parish is better overall than Caddo Parish/Shreveport. Look up the mayors of each town.
You might want to look into the Haughton area. It is east of Bossier City, with convenient access to I-20. (15-20 minutes to get to town) I have lived in the area for 38+ years. What price range are you in and what are you looking for in a house? Neighborhood or rural?
Whatever you do, stay away from SE Sport. Bert Kound Loop and Youree Drive are unavoidable. It is gridlock.
As for internet/cable....
Haughton has suddenlink. Same as I have here in Bossier. Awesome speeds. Caddo/Shreveport has Comcrap. Better speeds. If it is working. Citizens have gone before the City Council to complain about the Craptastic Service and asked council members to negate their contract for cable/internet services with Comcrap.

It is a new company spun off from another company that won the city infrastructure contract from Cox Communications.
96corvette 10-30-09, 09:51 PM About time! FOX33
http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/show/TV/ATSC/ATSC_Agrees_%E2%80%93_No_More_Loud_Commercials/3694
The ATSC will meet next week to approve recommended practices for commercial loudness.
We’ve all had that experience. It’s one of those lazy Sundays where you’re too lethargic to get up and pop in a Blu-ray so you end up watching Shawshank Redemption on TNT for the hundredth time. The movie finds its way to the parole hearing of Brooks, the elderly librarian who is finally set free. Unable to cope with life on the outside he tragically decides to take his own life. The last few tender notes of the score fade, and bam, you’re hit with a ShamWow! commercial twice as loud as the movie.
Thankfully, the ATSC is going to be providing guidance for television stations with a set of practices dubbed A/85. The effort was created with not only the intent of helping the consumer, but to avoid dealing with the federal regulation which is currently in the works.
The ATSC standard will not only ensure that commercials stay at the same volume as programming, but that each channel has the same volume. The ATSC will require that all programming be submitted at -24dB, plus or minus 2dB. NBC Universal states that they have already adapted to the new standards, and other broadcasters will be following in their footsteps shortly.
windham9 11-05-09, 09:15 AM As of last night Windows Media Center will no longer display or record KMSS fox33. Its working 100% on all my TV sets.
My windows 7 machine has 2 HDhomerun dual tuners, all 4 tuners will display it properly in quicktv from the HDhomerun setup, but not in WMC. All other channels are fine. KMSS shows good signal strength in WMC setup on all tuners.
My Vista computer with internal tuner also no longer displays/records KMSS in WMC anymore. All other channels fine.
WMC can still record FOX via KFXK 51 in Longview, TX. But 33 just wont work in WMC now.
VERY strange,,??
i49mobile 11-07-09, 06:30 PM It still surprises me that Suddenlink in Bossier City has added very few HD channels in the past year or so. With this in mine how is their broadband internet & telephone service in North Bossier. I am not leaving DTV for Suddenlink television but considering them for home phone & internet ?
Is Suddenlink broadband & telephone worth having ? I would need three phone lines, plus broadband. thanks

I have this bit of unconfirmed information to share: Echostar / Dish will provide the Shreveport market in HD around March 2010, it is scheduled to be deployed on Echostar 14. We have seen the first equipment arrive at our facility. As usual, I will keep you posted.
Thanks.

I kinda figured they would with E14. E14 is replacing E7 at 119W since E14 has more spotbeams resulting in a better reuse of bandwidth on the uplink and downlink side.
Here's a spotbeam it's probably going to be located on. This beam is capable of transmitting transponders 1,7,9,13.

deafninja 11-16-09, 12:15 PM Is anyone else having problems in the Monroe area with Comcrap on channels 433 and 440 which is local CBS affiliate (KNOE) and PBS. In the last month or 2 I have black screen showing up periodically and no signal. I have tried several tickets but surprise surprise when ticket is scheduled to be worked everything is working at that point and time.
Ronald_Jeremy 11-22-09, 11:03 PM Anybody having problems with bass dropping out when in 5.1 mode?
It was especially noticable during the AMAs tonight.
Not sure if it is OTA signal, my Sony amp, or Yamaha powered sub.
But I would love to find out. My neighbors not so much!! LOL :D

I watched some of Sunda Night Football last night and didn't notice it on KTAL but it's football and doesn't have a lot of bass in it. Ha. Will check tonight when I get home and let you know if I'm having any of those problems. Was it just on ABC or on all the locals?
Ronald_Jeremy 11-23-09, 08:22 PM Don't worry checking. It is something in my setup.
I recorded the AMA's and I can lose bass. But if I re-watch the same part after shutting down my sub and amp it will have the bass. No rhyme or reason. It may even be my VIP622.
I just need to narrow it down.
Of course my neighbors would prefer I not get it fixed LOL.
My first inclination is that the powered sub my be over heating. So I may need to crack it open and see if the heat sinks are dusty.
Pre Vamp 11-26-09, 12:06 PM I'm thankful that KNOE and KAQY can now air local spots in HD, but I'd really like to see something other than the Ivan Smith Furniture store spots.
Long time anchor of over 28 years, Judy Wagoner has departed KNOE for another career in Chicago.
ksla-Eng 12-29-09, 11:11 AM Hello,
as of this morning, SD service for Local affiliates (3,6,12,33) satellite in the Shreveport DMA is down. HD service is not affected. The issue is somewhere between the local pickup facility and the up-link. Both Dish and Direct are affected. I have been told by the powers that be that they are on it. I will keep you posted if I learn anything useful.
I hope you have enjoyed Christmas, and I wish all a Happy New Year.

The big 4 networks all transmit 5.1 audio, but not all stations have the equipment to pass the 5.1 signal. The big 4 in S'port (3,6,12,33) all transmit 5.1 audio on their primary channels. Also, CW KPXJ 21.1 transmits in 5.1.
AceMineral 12-30-09, 09:31 PM Thank you very much.
Ronald_Jeremy 01-13-10, 04:35 PM If anybody has problems with their Dish DVR locking up while on Fox 33, delete locals and re-scan. Fox changed some of their data recently and this happened to both me and my brother on our VIP622's.
Fox will then show up on 34-1
Did KTVE move their tower within the last few months? I've got a friend that lives in the Monroe city limits and we were getting near 100% on everything with his $80 Radio Shack antenna mounted on his chimney. Now KTVE comes in around 70% - 75%. He bought a RCA UHF/VHF antenna (the 65 mile one) from Lowe's and a UHF/VHF combiner from Radio Shack. He added an additional 5' mast to his existing 5' mast, and the Radio Shack antenna is pointing south and the RCA is pointing north. I'm sure it doesn't help that almost immediately in front of the north bound antenna is a gigantic oak tree. :(
MrSmurf 02-02-10, 10:04 PM WTF!!!! I'm trying to watch lost, and KAQY goes DARK in the middle of the most important scenes!!! REALLY WTF!!!!!!

Think again...I've heard several folks in Shreveport picking up Dallas fine. but as always check your signal strengths before "moving".
Dallas HD locals spotbeam on 110:

It might also be possible to get these beams on 129:

And of course there's all of these locals on Eastern Arc which is fairly easy to add to a Dish1000 with a wing dish and LNB.
http://www.satelliteguys.us/thelist/index.php?search=dn77&sub=true
I also suspect Shreveport will get their locals on the new E14 satellite at 119 going up in a few months since there will be a spotbeam that covers the entire DMA.

Monroe works well for Baton Rouge or Lafayette locals. I recommend the Baton Rouge ones since Lafayette does not have a NBC in their market.

windham9 02-11-10, 05:50 PM Both my local CBS stations continue to be the only affiliates in my 2 "markets" without the ability to insert weather information into HD, forcing them into SD during any weather event occurring in any one county/parish they serve. When text/radar map is inserted into HD, I will still watch the program. CBS has some of my favorite shows, but when its SD due to weather, I'll change channels rather than watch SD.
However, I do appreciate the local affiliates progress, and I am a firm supporter on free local HDTV. I'm certain the insertion equipment is quite expensive, would be awesome to be in by fall!:)
OTA HDTV faces an uncertain future. Free local tv has been a given for decades. Cable/sat should not be mandatory.

ksla-Eng 02-12-10, 01:35 PM I49,
I was on transmitter duty during Superbowl, and watched it on a crappy first generation Sharp Set top box hooked up to a Barco Hd monitor and small 2.0 speakers. Everything was fine, and I haven't heard anything in terms of sync or anything else for that matter about the game.
I strongly suspect that the recurring audio synch issues you have been experiencing are coming from your equipment somehow. Feel free to p.m. me if you need assistance.
Windham9,
Thank you for your kind words of support, free local TV is indeed in need of continued viewership. There is a move in the industry to further squeeze the broadcasters out of spectrum, again at substantial infrastructural costs, in order to monetize mores services. Even the Networks are at it; You probably already saw the new Sony Bravia line that is Internet capable. I can tell you right now that whenever the Networks will be able to reach a sufficient proportion of viewers through the internet instead of through the affiliates network, they will dump the affiliates in a snap and never look back.
It will probably be time then for the locals to become independent again, and it is only a matter of time. This should be interesting, I hope I will be in this business long enough to see it happen.
Let me reiterate also that we are well aware of the HD weather bug issue, and it is very high on the priority list.
Unfortunately, the more viewers "move" into different markets, the less revenue is generated locally, which further compounds the problem. I am glad you for one understand that fact, thank you again for your viewership.
Have a great week end.
digiblur 02-12-10, 02:03 PM After E-14 is brought online at 119 for DishNetwork, no one should need to "move" anywhere but if I was gambling man I'd bet the house on that the number of moved people in your DMA with DishNetwork is probably less than 1% of the DishNet subs.
ksla-Eng 02-12-10, 04:14 PM I concur on both points, but it only takes one viewer with a Nielsen book.
Their sampling size is so small in some counties that it will drop ratings %20 just like that, I have seen it happen.
Cable outlets are no better either, in the Tyler DMA west of us, you can watch certain Dallas affiliates on Suddenlink. The "significant viewership" rule is a circular argument, because that out-of-market viewership is almost entirely cable based. There are already so few people watching local OTA in the first place, let alone distant ones.
The fact is that the multiple rules, laws and regulations implemented by various industry lobbies over decades has muddied the picture so much that no number is real anymore.
But I know this for sure, it's that when there are important local events happening, it is not the distant guys covering it, it is us, the locals. The cost of providing quality local news is quite high, what is at stake in the end, is the funding of quality local journalism.
There are good parallels to be drawn from what happened over the last decade in the Print and Radio industries. Look up Clay Shirky, he has it quite figured out and he thinks that the picture does not look rosy for Broadcasters.

I've got a fast DSL, 5 mbps down, it streams SD nicely. But to stream HD in realtime, wouldn't take a very expensive (19.2?) commercial grade internet service? or excessive compression? Also many rural areas have no broadband.
Advertisers/sponsors of local OTA programming should be supported by OTA viewers. When ads "work", they keep buying more spots.
Free OTA created the networks. Every home should have an antenna. Works great in rain!
digiblur 02-16-10, 01:20 AM You'd be surprised what the MPEG4 codecs are doing lately. Of course not realtime so the codecs do have more time/passes to crunch the video better but HD streams on Netflix at around 4 megabit look very nice for streaming.

For network affiliate stations News is a loss leader. (Costs more to produce than income generated)
If networks bypass the affiliates and go directly to cable, local news, weather and sports will also go away. (Along with most OTA TV stations). Networks have zero to no interest in localization which is the lifeblood of local affiliates.
Four years of mandated dual Analog/Digital broadcast forced most middle market broadcast groups into bankrupcy. Now that they are starting to recover, loss of network affiliation will spell the doom of OTA broadcasting even if the spectrum isn't auctioned off to Cell and Broadband providers first.

Free TV has been an AMerican way of lfe for decades. Shutting it down after just spending billions for HD is unthinkable. What a waste of new technology & infrastructure. My guess is NBC would be the first to "go cable"? They are the weakest, and didnt a cable co buy them?
Cable in my town is a joke. Sat goes out in the rain. I dont waste my money on them. Loss of OTA including local news would be a nightmare.
FCC should have allowed affiliates to drop analog 90 days after their dtv was up, converter boxes were basically free with coupon.

Satellite rarely goes out in the rain. And if it does it's for a brief amount of time.
And loss of local news would be a nightmare? Why watch the news when you can get online and read it well before the news airs it?
NBC hasn't been bought by Comcast yet. It has to be approved the the FCC first which I really doubt it will. It will at least be another year or so at the earliest before the FCC reach a decision.

Of the KSLA shows I watched live today......
Today Entertainment Tonight was out of sync. And right now Letterman is out of sync.
This is OTA through DishNetwork VIP 622 and Sony Surround unit. All other local OTAs are sync'd.
Ronald_Jeremy 03-03-10, 12:34 AM As an additional reference, I checked the bedroom TV. It is an LCD with digital tuner built-in hooked directly to the antenna. Video and audio sync is off on KSLA TV.

E-14 is scheduled to launch on March 20th, 2010. It's scheduled to test at 138W first since they will want to test all 32 transponders which they can't do at 119W due to DirecTV holding some of those licenses and also 119W is active with a few customers out there ;)
Then it will move over to 119W and traffic will be offloaded from E7 to E14. Then you'll see the new markets going up. Last spotbeam satellite that went up took about 50 days from launch, to test and move the satellite into the proper orbit. So I bet you'll see Shreveport in June at the earliest unless they rush this satellite. It will be better for you anyways, since you won't have to swap any older receivers and change out your dish to a 1000.4 which some folks might not have line of sight to.

ksla-Eng 03-04-10, 10:20 AM As an additional reference, I checked the bedroom TV. It is an LCD with digital tuner built-in hooked directly to the antenna. Video and audio sync is off on KSLA TV.
Hello Ronald,
by how much would you say KSLA is off and in what direction ?
Thank you for your report.

I can't speak for RJ, but whenever I have had problems with KSLA, it's out of sync by about half a second maybe. The audio is slower than the video if that makes sense. It's been a while since I have watched anything on KSLA so I'm not sure if mine still does it.

KMSS has added the secondary stream to correct a problem that Direct TV decoders have with Nul Packets.
At present there are no immediate plans for secondary programming.

If the FCC wants to reclaim spectrum from the broadcasters there is a fairly easy way to do that.
Each market could be grouped together on adjacent UHF channels and collocated at the same power level (1 megawatt).
This is working in the Dallas/Fort Worth market very well for their stations.
Adjacent markets could be grouped apart from each other to minimize interference. This would solve the problem in Waco that requires three of the stations to operate at reduced power to protect Dallas and Austin full power stations.
All the FCC would need to do is to refund part of the auction proceeds to the stations to supplement the cost of converting transmitters and replacement of antenna and transmission line.
The entire country should be able to operate in a band from 14 to 45 using this setup and the broadcasters would probably go along to avoid losing channels.
Then they could take back the entire low and high VHF bands that suck for digital TV anyway.

There are parts of the country where some of the channels in the 14-21 range are unusable. (14-17, 19-20 in New York, for instance) I'm not sure that a 14-45 channel range would get the job done unless a number of broadcasters simply went away.

Yeah I wish they'd throw out the entire VHF band. It's the number one problem I hear with OTA...plus they calculated the wattage too low for these frequencies.
Of course the mobile community would throw a fit with the antenna required to use the VHF band. But I say, take it or leave it. ;)
digiblur 03-21-10, 01:36 AM Echostar 14's launch was a success. It's on its way to 138W for testing. Then on to 119 and it should be active towards the end of May at 119. Shreveport HD locals should follow there after.
The Monroe,La. locals are on 77 in HD. Can any one please tell me when they might be available to dish customers? Also. will they stay on 77? And how long are they usually in testing stage. Answers to any or all will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
digiblur 04-07-10, 04:17 PM No point in bumping these threads.
The answer to when they might be available? How long is a rope? question comes to mind.
Typically 2-3 weeks but as you can see these locals have broken that rule already. I've seen anywhere from 1 day, 2 weeks, 1 month, to never.
ksla-Eng 04-13-10, 12:10 PM Hello,
KSLA made some encoder changes this morning to resolve an intermittent buffer overrun we were having. This should resolve this problem that slowly crept up over the last 4-5 days.
We will continue with a firmware upgrade tomorrow morning, that should allow better bandwidth management and as a result, better picture quality, especially on ThisTv, while preserving the HD side.
During the update, the system is switched to our backup encoder, which has only an audio 2.0 encoder, and is rather old at that. Please ignore the picture quality while Audio on KSLA is not in 5.1 mode, and feel free to report as you see fit.
Thank you for your feedback.

bayouscrubs 05-03-10, 10:55 PM I have been reading this forum for many months - I live in N Shreveport, have Dish, and am looking to find out when I will get local HD. I use an antenna for now - and I have (to most of you) what may be a stupid question...
When you change your signal to get HD local - are you just moving your dish??? I can't figure out why some of you say, "I will stay in (Dallas, Monroe, or whatever) as apposed to moving to Shreveport.
Are you getting other signals...and if so, how???
digiblur 05-04-10, 12:11 AM They changed their service address to get locals from other markets, so they can record from the 2 satellite tuners in HD plus the OTA one in HD.
The Shreveport, LA market will not be available until Echostar 14 is in place at 119 (no dish move required). The satellite is planned to take over Echostar 7 that is currently at 119 starting on May 21st. I would expect the Shreveport market sometime in June.

KMSS failed to switch to HD for the entire NASCAR race sat night. Also has been hanging/freezing at times while in HD for months. I prefer KFXK 51, they are lots better than KMSS.

Many in the western side of the shreveport market should be able to receive KFXK 51 with a decent antenna & preamp pointed at Longview.
They always show every Cowboys game thats on FOX. Always switch to HD. Doesnt freeze/hang.

I'm in the Monroe area and have a Channel Master 4228 with a Channel Master 7777 pre-amp and pickup all of the local's in the mid-high 90's. This is with having my ant. installed in my attic as well. I've also done a few installs on the out-skirts of West Monroe even without a pre-amp had no issues once I got the aim of the antenna down. Both of those where with the 4228 (high recommend it), one in an attic and one chimney mounted.
I personally would stay away from the dish mounted antenna's. Nothing but bad luck with those things and you can't aim them, just put it on and hope you may pickup one or two stations. It's worth spending the $100 for the preamp/ant. setup to get all of the stations. Also rumor has it that Dish will have Shreveport and Monroe locals in HD sometime in June with the launch of the new sat. so you may want to hold off.

KSLA nicely remained in HD during primetime last night, most of the weather was west of the market.
However KYTX inserted weather into HD last night the first time I've seen local CBS with insertion.
Perhaps this info could fastrack insertion for KSLA? Would be awesome to have it by NFL regular season in Sept!

The freezing and audio motor boating issues with KMSS on Direct TV were traced to a frimware issue in the Direct TV HD decoders at their uplink that only effected KMSS due to the higher audio bit rate (448 KBits) used only by FOX.
After much back-and-forth blame game, Tandberg supplied a firmware upgrade to Direct TV to fix the problem. It took Direct TV 3 months to install it.

According to the DirecTV website they will be active sometime next month so you can pretty much bet you will have them then.

It's possible. DirecTV usually adds new channels on Wednesdays so that would give them 2 Wednesdays in August before they have their install. I would be willing to bet Monroe's HD locals should be on by the 14th. :D

I have never had Dish but I have no problems with the GUI on the DirecTV receivers. If you want NFL Sunday Ticket, DirecTV is offering their premium package free for 5 months when you sign up for Sunday Ticket. Believe it's around $60 a month for the first 5 months. You get everything plus Sunday Ticket. Really good deal.

ksla-Eng 08-04-10, 02:43 PM Hello All,
KSLA is currently off the air until tomorrow around noon because of loss of Bias IOT supply. We apologize to the OTA viewers, reception is still working for Sat providers L-in-L and Shreveport Cable (Comcast). Unfortunately, Bossier Suddenlink will not have us on. I will keep you posted if anything changes.

as of this morning around 9:30 AM, KSLA is back up at slightly reduced power. Most viewers should be able to pick us up, except the ones on the fringe.
If you can not receive us, a channel rescan is in order. Reports from those of you who can provide me one will be greatly appreciated.
We lost our tube bias supply, which was replaced this morning, and we also have a replacement tube on the way. We should be back up at 100% either tomorrow or sometimes over the week end. Rest assured that we are doing everything in our power to bring you your favourite TV programs as soon as possible, in the best manner possible.
Meanwhile, please do accept my sincere apologies for this inconvenience on behalf of the KSLA team.
Thank you for your viewership and support.

Forgive me for my ignorance, but I was reading over at Satellite Guys and someone mentioned that most people in the Monroe area wouldn't be able to get these channels without a second dish or something. Is that correct?
digiblur 08-11-10, 10:53 PM Correct Monroe is now an EA market using a different dish. Call Dish tomorrow and they will now about the new locals in their system.
vphares 08-12-10, 03:15 PM I know this doesn't fit the most recent posts in this thread but it does seem to be the right place for it (I think?)
I'm located near Wal-mart on Mansfield Road in Shreveport. Until this week I was connected to both DirecTV and an OTA powered antenna. For some reason my reception using the DirecTV HR-20 OTA was inconsistent. Now I have a Tivo Premiere DVR connected OTA only. The local channels (3, 6, 12, 21, 24, 33 and 45) are all coming in clear along with the sub-channels.
I had begun to notice that I was primarily recording only programing that was available on local channels rather than "cable" channels. So now I'm thrilled to save $60 per month by cancelling DirecTV, using Tivo and Netflix streaming (on Tivo and Roku) instead. For the few cable shows I will miss, I'll either catch them on Netflix later or rent them via Amazon On Demand now.
My main point is that at one time I didn't think I would be able to pick up the Shreveport locals OTA well enough to make this change but so far it is working fine (signal strength runs in the 70s? but Tivo displays the screen fine.)

I have the DirecTV HR-20 700 receiver and before DirecTV offered our locals in HD I had an antenna connected to the receiver. It can have problems getting a strong signal for some reason. I didn't have too much trouble as I live about 10 miles or so from most of the TV towers. Fortunately I don't have to worry about using the antenna anymore. :D
gbranch 08-13-10, 09:23 AM Interesting posts from folks in Shreveport having issues receiving the Shreveport locals OTA with Directv. I have a HR22 with an AM-21 ATSC tuner box connected. I am 45 miles from the Moringsport antenna farm in NE Gregg County, and the only Shreveport OTA channel I have problems with is 45, which is OK as they have zero programming that interests me. With the AM-21 a CM4228 antenna, and a CM7777 preamp, I can get most of the Shreveport and Tyler OTA channels from a single antenna position. Maybe the AM-21 has a later generation chipset than the integrated receiver in the HR20?
Most of my OTA viewing is KLTS, as I am in the Tyler-Longview market and the only PBS we get on satellite is the crappy SD PBS National.
MrSmurf 08-13-10, 11:56 AM DigiBlur - Just wanted to say thanks for giving us the heads up on the new HD locals. I have an installer from Dish coming out on Sunday to install the secondary dish to pick-up the Monroe locals.

Stinks you have to have a seperate dish just to get your locals!
96corvette 08-14-10, 09:53 AM I can confirm that the Shreveport HD through Dish is very very good (better than Dallas), even FOX33s commercials audio will not blast you out of your chair. In fact I have noticed all Shreveport HD is that way now. A welcome improvement! :) If I had to judge the audio/video FOX33 is a clear winner, do not know what you guys did but keep it up! :)

I wish the locals would get the volume equal for OTA, when I switch to KTAL it is way louder than the rest. WAY LOUDER, lol.
I live in the Monroe DMA. I called to check on the HD locals.
The tech was very nice and did his job. This $95.00 charge though
is simply nuts. I only paid $200.00 dollars when I upgraded to the 722 3 years ago. That was a complete refit and overhaul.
Why would they go through the trouble of uploading the channels if they don't want to make the content available.
I'm pretty sure almost no one in the area even knows HD locals are available anyway. I've been a Dish customer almost 6 years and this is the first time I can really say I have been disappointed in them.
Oh well,my antenna setup works really well. I'll just wait them out. Maybe when the next bird goes up they will see that nobody fell for the high priced upgrade and place the channels on an available bird.

What?!?! The installation is FREE, your installer is ripping people off. I would call Dish back and let them know ASAP. Also do you have the info from your "dish" installer? I would like to get it to make sure others around here know not to deal with them.
KeithAR2002 08-23-10, 07:53 PM Just noticed that KNOE 8 in Monroe is now broadcasting Wheel of Fortune in HD...big milestone, considering that KATV 7 in Little Rock is still broadcasting Wheel in glorious SD.
Kudos, KNOE!

This info came from Dish Network this is what they charge.

Dish does not charge for the new dish or install. I know of 7 people now that have the new dish installed without a fee (both in and out of contract terms). I would highly recommend calling back and finding out what the $95.00 is for.
TheAlbumMan 09-05-10, 10:58 PM Has anyone experienced random audio dropouts only during KTAL's HD network feeds? The dropouts are usually accompanied by a noticeable "pop" which makes the channel unwatchable. It has been reported (emailed) to the station manager and have not received a reply (nor do I expect one from them either). I understand that they do not currently have a local engineer.

The only time I watched NBC was last Saturday during the Purdue/Notre Dame game and I didn't notice it. I watched some of it OTA and through DirecTV. Both sounded fine to me from what I remember but I didn't watch a lot of the game.

Thanks for the reply but I failed to mention that I only watch them OTA. I would guess that their local uplink to DTV is not passing the Dolby Digital audio which could be the reason DTV viewers don't hear it. All I know is that it is annoying enough (the pop/digital tick) through my 47" tv speakers that I take great care not to tune to KTAL when feeding the audio to my Denon. Nothing like pops in 7 speakers!
Update: I received a reply to the email sent to KTAL. Here is a clip:
"I have been listening off and on since receiving your email yesterday. We are trying to isolate the problem. Unfortunately it is not just in network, just more pronounced. Network airs in dolby which makes any issues more apparent."

I was going to post the exact same thing you did originally but came on here and noticed you already addressed it.
I normally don't watch KTAL but first noticed it watching the Saints game, then Notre Dame and last night the Cowboys game. I first watched it on Comcast and thought it was their feed but then went to over the air and the same thing! The first time I was over the air on the Saints game through my surround system and yes it was even worse at higher levels through all speakers. If you go to comcast direct feed from the box to processor it goes to stereo but still you get the drop out and pop. Also just through tv speakers either over the aire or Comcast.
This is ridiculous and typical, it is very annoying and hard to sit through.
KTAL PLEASE GET THIS FIXED SOON OR AT LEAST BEFORE THIS WEEKEND!

KTAL PLEASE GET THIS FIXED SOON OR AT LEAST BEFORE THIS WEEKEND! As you can tell, it has not been fixed yet and who knows when it will. For a market of this size, they do not have a local engineer and it is my understanding that the "tech" from Monroe has to drive over to do repairs. I tolerated it as much as I could for the Saints game but had to quit watching in the 3rd quarter. I'll give them another week then email the guy again.
PhillipCollins 09-15-10, 04:15 PM Question hopefully somebody can answer. I live in north shreveport. I wanted to see if its possible to pick up either Longview or Tyler local channels and if so with what type of antenna would I need and would I need an amp?
PhillipCollins 09-15-10, 04:17 PM Another thing. I know some of you 'live' in Dallas if you have dish network or directv. I have directv. how would I go about "moving" to Dallas to get their locals? would I bet able to get their locals here in shreveport? not sure if the spot beams reach this far. hopefully someone here would know. thanks.

Funny you mentioned this.... I have an analog tv in the guest bedroom with a Zenith converter box and bowtie antenna connected to it and for the past few evenings/mornings, been able to get channel 7 in Tyler (even if the bowtie is for UHF). My 47LH40 LG is connected to a DB-2 (again, UHF only) in the attic and gets no signal from them at all; really didn't figure it would. That little Zenith DTT-900 box really has a hot tuner, much better than the LG even though the tuner in the Zenith is made by LG! I was debating on trying a preamp for the attic; specifically the Winegard HDP269 since it has a high (350,000 microvolt) input as I am within 15 miles of the S'port towers in Mooringsport.
I'm not interested so much in Channel 7, KLTV, as their subs carry THIS network and a Spanish channel and is one of the few VHF channels in that direction and do not want to deal with another antenna. Receiving Longview's Fox51 would be worth it if you are a Cowboys fan.

I thought I was the only one hearing the *POP* using Dish Net and almost threw the VIP 722 out the window  typical Shreveport market BS!

I did a Dish chat and gave them my Dallas zip and address, viewing Dallas in about 5 min. and yes, I am told the spot does reach Shreveport but rain fade is bad

Apparently I was the first one to notify them of the problem. It would be helpful if others here did the same thing and maybe something will happen. Being very familiar with this station (I won't go into detail here), it may be a long time getting fixed.

What kind of an address did you use? Did you just make one up? I want to 'move' my Directv service to Dallas but I'm not sure how to get an address.

I agree.

Is it true about the old joke them having army surplus equipment in the early days?

It has to be a valid address. I think that they use some variant of the USPS address database for validating an address. Best thing is if you have a friend or relative who is willing to let you use their address. Or find the address of an apartment complex and use Apt# whatever.

Not sure if the group here would approve of that. Just go to their homepage (arklatexhomepage dot com) and click on the "Contact Us" link at the bottom. I now see an email link and name for a chief engineer so they must've hired someone. LOL!
ksla-Eng 09-22-10, 09:51 AM Hello,
after having experienced transmitter difficulties, KSLA back since last week end with a 100% signal. Can you nice fellows provide a quick report when you get a chance, specifically OTA reception?
I appreciate very much your time and input.
Thank you.
