I had that problem with HDNet on Monday also. I didn't have that problem with any of the other HD channels. The PQ of HDNet from 7:30 PM - 8:00 PM ET was pretty bad too.

thaxx,
I tried that but still no luck with 51-1. The station is now in the guide and when selected it searches for the station but never finds it. I still get FOX 51 analog, but that really sucks bad.
To make matters worse, Directv is having problems turning on my Fox HD.
What's up with WCJB digital ABC channel 16 in Gainesville.

Better yet, what's up with D*TV and ESPN HD? The audio gets out of sync with the video every few seconds (especially noticeable on commercials). The other night I tried to watch TILT and it was not watchable with the sync problems. Is this a 360 problem, a D*TV problem or ESPN HD problem? Or is it a problem with my Sony 55WF655?
I've got an LG and have the same ESPN sync problems. I had a 360 and also had problems.

Here is the thread that addresses the audio synch problems of several STBs. It happens on 720p sources that have been filmed. Happy reading! :)

Sorry if this has been asked before.
The top and bottom of my DirecTV guide screen is chopped off by about 3/8" on my SD TV, fed via S-video. My old Sony and Hughes DirecTV receivers did not do this. I do not see an adjustment on the Samsung (or my TV) for this. Is this fixable?
Thanks.

Thanks for the link. After reading all of the posts (read: many hours) on that subject, I found it extremely ironic that D*TV fixed the problem this past weekend! I've been living with this issue since November '04 !!! Maybe all it took was for me to start asking questions!!! :D :D
Been searching for this answer but cant find it.
I've got a new 360 and a Visio 30" LCD. On SOME of the HD Channels, I get a fuzzy line at the top of the screen. I think Overscan might be the right term, or is it lack of overscan.
Is this a problem with the 360 or a problem with the Visio TV?
Thanks
Hef
drunkpenguin 02-06-05, 11:52 AM Probably your tv. Which HD channels does this happen on? Do you have your 360 set to autochange between 480, 760p, and 1080i? You probably need to adjust your tv under one of those resolutions. When I first set up mine 1080i content looked like crap. I had to get into the service menus to tweak it some.
Johnny
mikebaby 02-06-05, 04:12 PM I get it on my 360 too.

What is your output resolution set to? If you are outputting HD (1080i or 720p) through s-video, the picture gets squeezed, and I've also noticed the guide is partially off the screen as you describe. Try setting resolution to 480p and see if that helps.
mikebaby 02-07-05, 10:32 AM I may be wrong, but I didn't think that you could output 1080i or 720P via anything other than component, or DVI.

That's why it gets squezzed.
Sorry, I failed to mention that my problem only occurs when watching a HD Channel when it is NOT sending the HD Signal.
As in, watching Fox or ABC when it is not prime time.
Either way, I dont seem to have any adjustments for this on my TV.
My original post.

No, it's not! Because there is NO WAY that you can even try to output anything as either 720p or 1080i over the S-video output. Because you can ONLY do that via the component or the DVI output. It flat out can not even be done, or even attempted in any way shape or form over the S-video output.
blackngold75 02-07-05, 11:06 PM From the 360 owner's manual: "If you connect your TV to one of the composite video out jacks (VIDEO OUT, S-VIDEO OUT) and you view a HD program with the DIRECTV HD Receiver's RESOLUTION button set to either 720p or 1080i, the picture will be slightly cropped at the top and bottom" - to avoid the problem, set to 480p/i. In my opinion, the image looks sort of "squeezed", too.
I don't care what the manual says. Yes they may say to set it to something else and it may help or somewhat fix it. But it's not because the 360 was trying to send a 720p or 1080i signal through the S-video output, because it can't! You can not transmit 720p or1080i over a SVHS out, it just won't even remotely work! It is "squishing/squashing/squeezing" the picture because of some other internal glitch or design issue with the 360. And setting the switch to another position helps to alleviate it.

Precisely my point.
Gerald C 02-09-05, 08:10 PM I documented all possible Component and S-video output modes of the TS360 as a function of all possible format/resolution/TV-type settings. See the tables in this thread (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=499917) . There are certainly many modes where distortion is present. I regard these problems as THE critical failure of current D* boxes. (No offense to all those with ESPN/ABC problems) ;)

mobster lobster 03-07-05, 12:03 PM I have a sirts360 which I am using with a 32" Samsung Tantus HD ready tube tv, circa 2002.
The tv has only one component video input and no digital inputs, so I have the sirt360 connected with a high quality m500v component video cable.
All of my video sources (series 2 tivo, vcr, denon DVD2200) are connected to the inputs of the sirt360, which does all of my video switching.
The problem I'm having is what appears to be translucent waves of video noise that come and go (waves in the sense that they are parallel bands). They are sometimes horizontal, sometimes diagonal and appear when watching cable stations and DVD's (through the sirt 360's component input).
The wave do not appear when the cable or the dvd2200 are connected directly to the tv.
They are subtle enough that I can usually manage to ignore them, but obvious nevertheless. Any ideas on what I can do to remove them?

EricJRW 03-10-05, 11:30 AM I would try unplugging (not just powering down) which ever devices are not being used.
Next, I would try plugging the devices into separate circuits (mostly as a test).
I have read that sometimes having multiple devices in the same (duplex) outlet can cause the symptoms you are seeing.
A powerline filter might also help...
I've had the TS-360 for a little over 3 months and am experiencing my first problems. The HD channels do not show video. All SD channels are viewable but when I try the HD ones they only output audio. I can reset the unit and have HD viewable but as soon as I switch to SD I can not get a HD feed back. Is this the same dropout that others have seen? The unit has worked great up until this point? I have a cooling fan above it but since I can reproduce this problem when the unit is cool then I don't think that is the problem. I have the unit plugged to a Samsung HLP5674 via DVI and use the Native 3 resolution. Any help would be appreciated.
blackngold75 03-14-05, 03:09 PM I have the 360 also connected via DVI, and get picture on all output modes (although, to a Sony KV-34HS510).
Do you get a picture if you set resolution to 1080i or 720p through DVI? If not, then how about trying a hookup through component video so see if you can view HD source material?
I am connected thru a DVI cable and have toggled all resolutions multiple times to see if an HD feed would work consistently. No luck. I was receiving a HD feed perfectly for over 3 months and this problem just recently happened whereby the HD video just drops. If I leave it on the same channel for an extended period of time(several minutes) the picture finally comes through. I thought maybe it was the TV but have had no problems receiving a 720 feed from my DVD player. I'd don't really want to swap to component if I lose picture clarity.
Thanks,
Tyler
blackngold75 03-14-05, 08:45 PM Well - the 360 has a history of being buggy. So, my money would be on some sort of problem with the 360 - especially since you say the reboot makes the HD picture come back until you go to an SD channel. Sounds like the box is having trouble getting back to HD resolution. You should consider contacting D* for a replacement.
Thought I would add in what the final outcome of my bad receiver was in case anyone else has the same problem. Since I purchased this from DirecTV I thought they would cover it under warranty. Wrong. They only cover 90 days while Samsung covers it for a year plus if you register your warranty online they add in another couple of months. So after explaining and argueing with DirecTV for about 1/2 hour the best they could do was offer the unit to me for $75. So I called Samsung and they said they would fix it but it would probably take 10 business days. Ok, who wants to go w/o TV for that long?? So this forced me back to DirecTV where I tried to argue again that they should cover the same warranty. So I think hey maybe I'll pay the $75 and then get the other unit fixed by Samsung and then sell it to cover my out of pocket. Wrong. DirecTV wants the other unit back. So I swallow my dignity and pay the price and have to begin again the 1 year servitude to DirecTV. All this because I missed the 90 day deadline by 2 weeks. Argggghhh.
Tonedeaf 04-14-05, 11:15 AM Does anyone know if it is possible when the receiver is on to have the clock show instead of the channel number????
Not that I'm aware of. That would be ok-also, find a way to turn down the intensity of the display - way, way too bright.
Texas steve 04-27-05, 02:13 PM I had the same problem, so I put transparent film in my printer, then printed at 60-75% Grey scale. I then cut a piece of it to fit in the 360 window. I then put just a touch of glue stick on the two ends and it worked perfect.
If you want it darker or a different color, just change your gray scale.
EricJRW 05-09-05, 08:06 PM Another gripe (correct me if I'm wrong and this works for you):
If I set the 360 to record TWO shows from the guide that are back to back, I only get the first show...
Might be my VCR not being fast enough to process the signals, but still it annoys me... My Hughes did not have this problem.
razorfish 06-01-05, 10:18 AM hey guys, i've recently made the foray into HTPC Land and have a question regarding my setup. I'm running the lynxtwo-b sound card and have hooked up my TS360 to it.
Now, the lynx doesn't have an onboard dd decoder so it has to receive a decoded stream in PCM in order for it to output sound. I was fooling around in the audio menu and noticed the 360 has a PCM selection under digital audio.
When I'm viewing a dd 5.1 program, ie, HBOHD, etc, and the stream is set to pcm does this mean i'm getting a 5.1 stream output in pcm or is pcm just stereo?
thanks!
raze

PCM is 2 channel audio via the optical output. 2 channel audio may also be encoded with Dolby ProLogic to provide 5 channel audio. You must set the output to 'Dolby Digital' to get 5.1 descrete channel audio. If your soundcard has optical output, you could pass-thru the 5.1 to be decoded by an external audio system with DD decoding capability.
razorfish 06-01-05, 01:04 PM ok. i'm running coax out, but regardless of the digital output (optical/coax) pcm is still just 2-channel, correct?
raze

Correct. Same as the audio on a CD. I should have said digital input/output which can either be coax or optical.
razorfish 06-01-05, 01:15 PM well, this definitely solves my dilemma! so even on 5.1 material it gets downconverted to 2 channels, right?
thanks MG

5.1 stream is separate from the PCM stream to the best of my knowledge (someone correct me if I'm wrong, please). The audio transport stream to the digital output is selected between 2 channel (PCM) or 5.1 (DD) via your audio preference setting.
razorfish 06-01-05, 02:01 PM ok, that just about clears it up for me then.
thanks!

filefish 06-03-05, 12:26 PM did you ever find Discreet ir codes for your sammy 360? I am very interested in selecting inputs so my wife has a ez time of watching it.
tgenius 06-12-05, 09:22 PM Has anyone had an issue where their Samsung turns on/off but won't change channels or display anything? The only thing I can do is to unplug it and plug it back in!
MrChicken 06-12-05, 09:55 PM Yep, that was one of the reasons Dtv replaced mine. Along with Minnie Mouse audio and poor OTA reception.

What did you do to get it replaced? What did they replace it with? Did you have to send your old unit back?
Channels on Sat B started are breaking up last night. Any one else having problems?
Tonedeaf 06-14-05, 10:59 AM No problems here lately with my 360, been rock solid for about 6 months now. No resets at all.

Roger Clark 08-04-05, 02:21 PM It took a LONG time to get through this thread. I just got one of these off eBay and I'm pretty happy to report that I have only one of the problems outlined in this thread. That one would be the not locking into DD2.0 or even DD5.1 sometimes on OTA broadcasts. I had no trouble solving that by adding a button to my Pronto remote screen for the TS360 that simple resets my receiver to surround 7, it lock immediately to whatever signal is present (PCM, DD2.0, DD5.1, whatever...). No idea why the initial lock doesn't happen....
I only have component inputs for HD on my TW65H80, so no issues with HDMI for me.
This is only an interim STB seemingly anyway since D* is going to introduce mpeg4 boxes "sometime soon."
Happy for now,

...several hundred dollars later....
Returned from work today and had no power in the living room. Breaker was not tripped, but I had to reset it to get power back to the living room. Well fire up the system and the 360 can't find the Sat's. Old Sony upstairs is working like a charm, so it is not the dish, or any connections. I even tried selecting "No Dish" and just using it's digital OTA tuner with my rooftop. Well that don't work either. Tried all the normal BS, reset, unplug for 15 seconds..... Any ideas? My guess is I'm SOL. I bought it from Best Buy, so warrenty is over. D* says they will replace it for $149.

What worked out to be $219 later! But if you are happy with your substandard equipment by all means use it.

I recently moved, packed up all my electronics in the original boxes and moved them in my car. NO movers are gonna throw my stuff around!!
Have the Sammy 360, had it since July of last yr.
Got to the new house, unpacked and had D come install a new dish. Installer plugs in the Sammy....NOTHING...no picture, sound or anything. Just a constant clicking come from inside. Installer says he's seen this before. It's FRIED he tells me.
HOW can this be....it was working fine when I unpugged it!
I get on the phone....yep, 1 month out of warranty. Says they will give me another one for 149.00. a refurbished one. What luck...needless to say, I'm not a happy camper.
They give me a 'loaner' SD to watch until I can get another unit.
In the meantime I call Direct and express my displeasure. I ask about a credit towards a HD Tivo. They offer 200 off their 749.00 price. I thought and thought about it...(been wanting one since they came out) Sweet talked Momma, (Wife) and said what the hell. GO for it.
Called back and got them to throw in some more programming, and set up installation. Got Showtime for 6 months for free. 2 dollar HBO for 6 months, and free HD pkg for 9 months.
COOL! Installer comes....it's GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1 week goes by...and D is advertising the HD Tivo for 150.00 less than I paid. 599.00 vs 749.00 Back on the phone!! Tell them what happened and was lucky enough to get connected with a SWEETHEART. (Tawni) She credits the difference to my account!! And she sees I'm a sportsnut. She offers the NFL HD pkg (99.00) for 49.00. GREAT!!!
FREE HD Football and 100.00 credit. (along with NEW SD loaner, they forgot to pick it up)
Well worth the time and trouble of the phone call!!
Anyone else have this clicking with the Sammy 360? Have a buddy who fixes electronics, just wondering If it's worth trying to fix?
Thanks!

The ST HD package is $49.00 for anyone, not $99 anyway (it was $99.00 originally, but they lowered the price after a flood of angry emails and phone calls).
Did you hook up the 360 or the installer? If the installer hooked it up, I'd try it again on my own, maybe he hooked the sat cable to the air in or something, who knows. Highly doubtfull the STB just died while in transit....
nlk10010 08-13-05, 08:15 PM Didn't know if I should create a new thread or not, but thought it might be better to tack it on here....
I have had a 360 for over a year now and have gone through the 720p issue, etc. But just recently (say a couple of weeks) I've had real problems 1. With the program guide and 2. With a "Service not available" message. The guide is basically missing info on many channels (shows Upcoming information for later that night or the next day) and running up and down channels will cause a message (originating from the box, not D*) saying "Service not available". The box will freeze for a few seconds then resume normal scanning. When the message is displayed the box will be on a certain channel (e.g. 212); the background will either be black or you'll see a white background with blue D* logo. After a few more seconds and presses of Channel + or Channel - the actual channel will appear (box will still say 212). My box shows the current software release as 1.2.35.
Any info or pointers would be appreciated (e.g. anyone else having this problem)?

rickmccamy 08-13-05, 09:16 PM Now that this thread is back up on top I was wondring how many Samsung owners had exrperienced a lack of audio signal on UPN channels until they removed zip codes?
I have read at least one, it is common with RCA DTC 210, and has shown up with H-10's.

I've seen the same thing recently.
I use the MLB EI packsge and early in the evening I'll add all the channels that will be showing a game to my "sports" menu.
If I tune to a channel that hasn't started it used to show a grey box at the bottom with reciever #, card ID # and the 721 stuff.
Sometimes, not always, now it will show the "Service not Available" box and momentarily hang up.
Has always recovered by itself but takes a few seconds.

Installer hooked it up. Can't get anything out of it, it starts the 'clicking' noise as soon as it's plugged in. Can't even get a light on the panel to work.....nothing.
As strange as it sounds, it was working fine...unplugged it, moved it, and it died in the transition.
The clicking occurs approx. 2-3 times a second, non-stop.

Oh, OK, thanks. The box had recently begun to slow to a crawl when trying to use the guide so I rebooted and that sort of speeded up things but the blank or "Upcoming" entries are a pain, as is the weird hang with the "Service not available" message. The only difference with my box is that the message appears even when the station IS broadcasting (e.g. 240, 212); it just takes 5 seconds to clear things up.
I don't know what I would have done about it anyway as I'll need to upgrade to an MPEG4 box, I just thought there might be a quick fix.

dusterscott 08-14-05, 03:27 PM Now that this thread is back up on top I was wondring how many Samsung owners had exrperienced a lack of audio signal on UPN channels until they removed zip codes?
I have read at least one, it is common with RCA DTC 210, and has shown up with H-10's.
I'm getting UPN out of Cincinnati ok.
dusterscott 08-14-05, 03:36 PM I was browsing in the user menu yesterday and noticed that I had a firmware update installed on July 7th at 4 a.m. I've noticed that the 360's performance has improved considerably since I first got this STB a year ago. It used to be pretty buggy. I used to have audio quality problems where the audio would get real squawky and you had to tune to a satellite channel and then go back to the OTA channel to fix the audio. Of course turning the unit off and back on fixed the problem too. I got to thinking about that audio problem and realized I haven't had that problem for a while now.
rickmccamy 08-14-05, 03:50 PM I'm getting UPN out of Cincinnati ok.
In a thread I started a couple of weeks ago here in hardware, I got the fix from a member in Columbus, who experienced the audio drop on 53-1, UPN. He and I both have the DTC 210, which I have read is very similar to the 360. I have read several posts about the same problem and fix with the Samsung 360, and just recently have read of two H-10's having the same UPN/Audio problem. I intend to take this to the top of D*'s pyramid.
UPN is workinmg with D* on this issue, but consumer complaints can only help.
Roger Clark 08-15-05, 12:13 PM Didn't know they dropped the price from 99 to 49, for the HD.

Rats! I'd probably open the box up and see if anything shook loose during your trip.
With the latest patches, this has turned in to quite a nice STB (isn't it always the case when they go out of production?)...
The current non-dvr offering is useless to me (and has it's own large thread of problems) as I need to control my VCR with it and it doesn't have the IR blaster the TS360 has. I record one or two programs a month maximum and have no use for a monthly charge for a DVR setup. The TS360 is perfect for me until the mpeg4 stuff hits.
Hope you find something simple like a blown fuse or loose cable inside!
dusterscott 08-15-05, 01:11 PM Does anyone know the answer to the following question? If I were to cancel my subscription to DirecTV, would I still be able to use the 360 to watch OTA channels?
I'll admit I haven't read this whole thread.
Anyone have problems with the DVI out? I've had it hooked up via componet for the past year and just got a new TV with HDMI. I used a HDMI to DVi cable and get a signal unsupported, or something like that.
Also, anyone have problems iwth component output? I think it just crapped out on me last night after working the past year. This will be the LAST Samsung ANYTHING i get.

Yes, just set your dish type to "none."

I've always used the DVI out without a problem and I use a DVI-HDMI adaptor for my switcher. Have you gone through the menu and double-checked that everything's set up right? I'll be of more assistance to you when I get home from work tonight. I know you can change the output of the 360 from the front panel.

I'm pretty sure it's set up right. The component was working fine Sat. but there's nothing Sunday. I'm just using the S-video now (for the first time). I don't know if there's somethng I need to set to use the DVI. My Sony HD300 had a switch in back I had to flip, but I see no switch and can find anything specific for the DVI output in the menus. Thanks.
dusterscott 08-15-05, 06:14 PM On the bottom-right of the panel, use the 'output' button to change between component and rgb/dvi output. It shows you which output mode you're in on the display.

Done that 3 times, using teh red button and unplugging for a few minutes. I hope this thing is still under warranty.
chengka 08-16-05, 12:54 AM I picked up a TAS360 for a song and I have a couple of questions I haven't been able to find answers to.
1) Firmware is .35 as of 7/23/05 and I have a serious problem with x745 xiessages. Every time I turn on the receiver, I have the grey box displayed. An unplug/plug fixes it, but it's very inconvenient. Is this a know problem?
2) I would like to use the component inputs for my DVD playDAVID but I can't seem to get the TAS360 to display the correct aspect ratio. I'm using aIambptoma H76 Optima2WYxiprojector. The DVD plDAVIDr works great without the TAS360 in the loop, but when I connect the DVD vDAVIDthe TAS360 I can't get a full 16x9xidisplay without stretching. It doesn't seem to matter what "resolution" I use on the TAS360. The player is ououtputting80P and even 480P out of the TAS360 won't come close to filling the 16xi9 screen. Has anyone experienced this sort of problem?

1st, have you fed your display device with DVI before and know that the TV side works?
2nd, if you read through this thread (a huge task in itself), you will find a few people who had DVI cables that didn't work, can you borrow (or buy with ability to return) another high quality cable to try?
Lastly, nowhere in this thread have I seen anyone say they thought their DVI picture was any better than the component hookup and several who thought the black levels were off with DVI vs component. You might wind up with component anyway....
Don't give up yet, it's a very nice unit and will do nicely for me until the mpeg4 stuff comes out in a year or two.

I will probably not be of much help here, but from reading this (huge) thread, I have learned the following about your problems:
1) This symptom usually means your unit is in a high heat setting, maybe on top of another heat producing device. Try to position the unit in a cool setting or read through the thread and try one of the external fan solutions. My unit is in an enclosed rack, but on its own shelf and I have no heat related problems with it.
2) Virtually everyone who has tried running their DVD outputs through the STB has said the picture is NOT as good as running the DVD outputs directly to the display device (aspect issues not withstanding). I do not know if you can control the aspect ratio of a DVD input through the Samsung, maybe someone who has tried will chime in on that one.

Opened it up...no luck. (Fuse good, wires all good) Plugged it back in...still clicking. Clicking seems to be coming from the output-input area. Where the two white ribbon cables plug into the board. (back right, looking at the receiver from the front) It's hard to determine exactly where the click comes from.
Still no lights, display or power lamps.
Funny thing is, my move was all of 2 blocks. And I transported all electronics myself in the car.
Don't know............Glad I got the HD tivo now.
At the current price...299.00

1) I have a working TS360.
2) I don't need an additional monthly charge for a DVR I would hardly ever use.
So for you it's a wash on the STB after the credits and then 5.99/month or 71.88/year forever. That doesn't seem to bad money wise and if you use the DVR stuff (and I know a lot of people live their lives around them), it makes sense for you.
I'm sorry your TS360 died though. Maybe you can post back on the picture quality and other features vs. the TS360 once you're up and running.

I am up and running, almost a month now. I can't really see any difference in PQ between the 2 receivers. Guide is painfully SLOW compared to the 360, but the remote don't have to be pointed directly at the receiver. (As the 360)
It's SO easy to record, just 1 button.
DVR is really nice, pause anytime sure comes in handy.
I'm extremely happy with the move. I'm not missing anything, I really think this has made my purchase (Mitsubishi 55' , surround sound sys) SO much more worth it.
Watching WHAT you want, WHEN you want (in HD too) is the only way to fly.
one happy camper!

Testiclees 08-18-05, 12:29 PM I have a TS160 that is presently giving me problems. On random nights at 8:00 PM I get a message on the screen saying the wrong access card is in. Needless to say this is very annoying. Anyone have any tips on how I can get DTV to send me a new receiver?
dusterscott 08-18-05, 12:57 PM Call them.
dacarter 08-22-05, 10:23 AM I too received the new firmware in July, and haven't had any problems with lockups, tinny audio, or anything else since. Seems as though Samsung finally came through.
chengka 08-23-05, 05:47 PM Does anyone know which "color space" is passed when using 720p via DVI? I would guess it uses the video rather than pc, but I don't see it documented anywhere.

After reading some of these posts, I went and checked mine, and I also got the firmware update, and it seems to coincide with mine now being less stable that it was before.
If I watch an HD channel for long enough, the whole box locks up.
If I watch a non HD channel, periodically it stops sending to the TV for a second or 2 and then recovers. And also, some of my HD channels have started suffering from interference, or cannot be received at all.
Guess I should call DTV :)

Mine does the same thing. I don't use it very much at all, so I live with it. I expect D* will offer you an HD10 for $49 plus a commitment. Let us know what happens.
Windshadow 09-14-05, 08:47 PM My TIR360 unit has started freezing if it is left on any of HD stations for more than a day or so only fix is unplug reboot
it says 1.2.35 on 7/16 for the Software with original as 1.2.03 1.2.16 was installed in Dec the problem started in July I think
I use it in my bedroom with a Toshiba 23HLV84 combo 720P LCD screen is this a common problem... attempting to save myself the time to read the thousands of of 360 posts
dusterscott 09-15-05, 09:38 AM My receiver has been working beautifully. I'm using it for OTA channels only as I'm no longer with D*. I watch a lot of HD programming.
DanHuff 09-15-05, 03:52 PM Mine will sometimes freeze on other stations if I leave it on overnight, but it does not happen too often. A few nights ago I left it on HGTV (229) and it would not change channels etc... the next morning. So I don't think it is only on HD channels. This is too bad since I really have not had any problems with the box since I got it almost 2 years ago.
Maybe the new MPEG-4 boxes will be better, but I'm not holding my breath!
Tonedeaf 09-23-05, 11:50 AM I am having the same issues as others. Lockups when watching an HD channel for too long. Has only happened on OTA stations as that is all I have in HD from D* right now. Has happened in the last 3 weeks or so. Have had 5 lockups. No sound, only video, no remote recognition. Only recourse is a reset from the button under the door.
Matt Heebner 09-23-05, 05:38 PM I too am having a bunch of freezing issue's with my 360. I have not really had too many issue's with this receiver, but lately have been really having problems. I can see the little red icon flashing on the front panels, but does not respond to any remote commands. I have to do a reset to get it working. PITA !!

dusterscott 09-23-05, 05:47 PM For all of you reporting these problems I wonder if your last firmware upgrade (version 1.2.35 in July '05) was successful? You can access this information in the menu under System/System Upgrades/Past Upgrades. If your upgrade wasn't successful maybe you can contact Samsung for upgrade instructions.
Windshadow 09-23-05, 11:47 PM Well it says it worked 1.2.25 on the 16 of July... Direct TV Cust service says just to reset! Samsung says call Direct TV! Wish I had been able to get one of those Cheap HD DerecTiVos they were selling last month but they do not seem to be on the web site any more
Windshadow 09-26-05, 11:19 AM An update I was able to get through to Retention at 1-800-600-8977, which goes straight to retention and able to get another HDTivo for 99.99 after $100 2 year contract bonus and MIR of 100 and 5.00 off monthly HD service...they also credited the 14.99 shipping fees the phone number was out for a bit but seem to work again.

I just ordered the HD Tivo this morning, to replace my 360. Cost is $299 less a $100 rebate. I'm getting it this Friday.
JeffreyMAbq 09-29-05, 11:16 PM So, I looked back, and apprently I have a new problem.
I use my 360 to component switch between hd and my dvd player (one input into the tv - makes it easy for the wife and kid). Well, today, all of the sudden, it will intermittently switch the picture to the satellite channel. The unit display continues to read "component" and the sound (when I switched my receiver) is muted. Only the picture switches.
Any ideas?
LSonsthagen 09-30-05, 09:39 AM I had that problem when we hooked our GameCube into one of the inputs. The kids would be playing a game and then suddenly it would switch back to the DirecTV picture. Made the gameplay pretty challenging.
Anyway, I noticed that I had my channel on the 360 set to one of the Music Choice stations (800s). It seemed that whenever it would update the background (wallpaper) on that channel, that is when the switch took place. We don't have this setup anymore, but you might try keeping your 360 on a particular channel and see if that helps out at all.
Bandito 09-30-05, 05:36 PM I remember it dawning on me sometime in August that the 360 had stopped having audio glitches during HD material, so I checked for updates and sure enough, it had been updated a couple of weeks prior.
Unfortunately, I have been experiencing the lockups that others have described quite regularly. I always leave my 360 on and I now have to reset it a couple of times per week as it stops changing channels. Sometimes, the current channel is still playing, it just won't change to anything else or bring up the guide or menu, and sometimes it's just locked up and not doing anything.
It has also gotten flakey on OTA reception occasionally, seeming to have problems as though there is a weak signal. A reboot will also fix this problem.
Sigh :( As far as features and performance, this has been my favorite box so far, but very troublesome since the get go. I hope that by DirecTV being more fully involved with the hardware that things will get better in the future, but i'm not too hopeful.
I keep telling myself that it's just TV and only a minor thing, but it is so annoying because it's something that I spend so much time with at home. Even if it's just some background "noise" for me, it really jumps out at me and interrupts many other projects when I have to tweak, twiddle, troubleshoot, and fiddle with it!
RaceTripper 09-30-05, 05:52 PM I've notice in recent months that my 360 will start getting really sluggish responding to commands from the remote (guide, channel switch, etc). My 160 never suffered from this. But I'm about to get the HD DirecTivo (waiting on installer now), so hopefully that will work better for me.

DeanYeah, mine has done that for a while, but the lockup is new to me.
I thought it was HD related as it switched between an HD show and the commercial (actually it always seem when it goes from commercial to show, right when you get that audio hiccup), but I see someone else reported it happened on non-HD satellite chan too...
Oh well. Until I popped my head back in this thread, it always seemed like it was when I was watching channel 11 (CBS, in Dallas - Fort Worth). Now I see maybe it's just because I watch a lot of channel 11…
Oh well, maybe another update is on its way…

Over the satellite. I never connected my phone line and still got all the updates.
dusterscott 10-01-05, 10:23 AM Thanks. I still have my dish hooked up to the receiver even though I cancelled my subscription with D* a month ago. I still get the guide. Matt Heebner 10-02-05, 09:47 AM Well, my 360 just died the other day. It locked up....a weekly event. When I went to reset it, the box would not reset. I went to unplug it and when I powered it up, it kept making a clicking noise. It was the same click sound that it makes when you reset it. It was only doing that over and over without resetting. There was no power to the front panel. I called D* and they are sending out a refurb unit. I kinda hope it is the Hughes as the Sammy is just too buggy.

Lockups, dropouts, signal fades... very frustrating...
EricJRW 10-17-05, 10:11 AM And another thing...
Anyone notice that if you use the guide to select "record" on two shows that are back-to-back (i.e. channel N from 8 to 9 and 9 to 10, each show being 1 hour) that the second show does not get recorded?
Maybe it's the codes used for the VCR, but the after recording the first show the 360 turns off the VCR but does not turn it back on for the second show. Seems the software should be smart enough to see consecutive shows, but I guess not.
Only way around it (AFAIK) is to manually set a timer for chanell N from 8 to 10.
I hoped one of the recent software upgrades would fix, but so far it has not.

Sorry. Don't use a VCR anymore. I also have an SD Tivo hooked up to my set.
WILDCAT NATION 10-24-05, 05:27 PM I have looked and looked for this type of question to be asked, but I haven't found it.
Anyway, I have been fighting to get OTA HD channels on my 360 for nearly a year now...and let's just say I'm frustrated. I recently moved the Antenna AGAIN, and finally was getting very consistent signals on all my locals that I should get...but after being seemingly locked on for a period of time...I will inexplicably lose signal at the drop of a hat...and lose it for a while.
I have tried EVERYTHING with this antenna and I'm starting to wonder if the 360 is the problem. Can someone enlighten me? Does this tuner just SUCK, or what?
dusterscott 10-24-05, 06:56 PM What kind of antenna are you using? Indoor/Outdoor? Amplifier? A little information would help us help you. Dedicated RG-6 run or diplexed with satellite dish?
WILDCAT NATION 10-24-05, 07:32 PM UHF/VHF combo running RG-6 to a grounding block, through an amp, to the TV.
About 75-100 feet of run.
What blows my mind is that it will work perfectly for a while, then shoot craps...
I can pick up even the VHF channel without expanding the vanes for the VHF portion of the antenna.
It's mounted on the chimney...I'm about 50 miles from all towers..in KC...I'm in St. Joseph, MO.
dusterscott 10-24-05, 09:01 PM Yeah, 50 miles is starting to push the limits of a lot of antennas. Do you have a large enough antenna? Have you any terrain issues between you and the towers? If so, installing the antenna on a pole/tripod setup might help you. I'm only about 17 miles from Dayton, Ohio and had to get my antenna higher before I could receive any channels reliably. You might subscribe to your local HD Reception thread and see what works for people in your area. Also have you checked out AntennaWeb.org? I'm very happy with the performance of my 360. I'm set up to receive both Dayton and Cincinnati channels here.
WILDCAT NATION 10-24-05, 10:03 PM I don't believe antenna size to be an issue...I've worked with a lot of the folks on my local thread...
This is just very confusing because it will work perfectly, then all of a sudden completely drop out...
Very frustrating.
For a while, it worked better at 5 feet off the ground than it did on the roof....but it is now on the roof.
I take it you don't have the lock-up issue with your 360...This is at least a 2 times a week occurence at our house.
RoyGBiv 10-25-05, 09:19 AM I had not followed this thread for a long time, but I, too, am now getting the lock up issue. For me, I thought it just related to having the NHL Center Ice package and trying to tune to games that were not yet being broadcast. I twice got a message "serivce not available," and when I pressed "select" the unit would freeze up. Last night something different happened. I was watching a game on one channel and changed to a different channel. The channel changed on the front of the receiver, but the picture didn't change. It was still the old channel. At that point it was frozen, and I had to do a reset.

dusterscott 10-25-05, 10:16 AM I don't believe antenna size to be an issue...I've worked with a lot of the folks on my local thread...
Yes, it must be the 360 then. I'm very fortunate to not have these lockup issues. The 360 has really performed flawless for me since the July firmware upgrade. The only problem I ever had with the 360 was an audio problem which I no longer experience. The audio would all of a sudden sound tinny and I'd have to power the STB off and then back on (or change channels and go back to the problem channel) to get the audio back. Did this problem get any worse in July with the latest firmware upgrade?

I had that same problem but it hasn't happened for some time. I forgot about it until I read your post. I think in my case the audio problem only occurred on non-DD 5.1 broadcasts.
azstsundevil 10-25-05, 04:48 PM I too have the same locking problem but it seems to be on only one OTA HD channel. I first thought it was a problem with the station, but it looks like another 360 bug.
EricJRW 10-26-05, 01:06 PM How far are you from the transmitters and do you have the right antenna for the distance and frequency band (UHF and/or VHF) for your stations?
You can check this at www.antennaweb.org
Also, if you use an amplified antenna, you might want to try it without the attenuator. A signal that is too strong is just as bad as one that is too weak. I've even heard of people having to lower the signal level to there ATSC receivers...
Good luck.

cole.clark 11-06-05, 08:04 PM Fellow 360 owners.... attempting to diagnose a very thorny problem. I've had my 360 for about 2 months now (replaced the Toshiba DST-3100 because the UI on the Toshiba was sooooo horrible) and have notice within the last month all of a sudden that two D*TV HD channels are pixelating horribly: Discovery HD and ESPN2HD. This didn't happen initially but now both channels are unwatchable. I thought at first this was a dish alignment issue, so I re-mounted the phase III dish to a new post which is perfectly plumb (old one was not) and now get high 80's - 90's on all transponders on the 101, 119, and 110 birds. But for some reason, ESPN2HD and Discovery HD are pixelated all the time. I have the phase three dish connected to 8 total receivers via a 5x8 multiswitch. I have replaced the multiswitch and even connected one of the four coax cables coming directly from the dish into the 360, but no effect.
I have noticed that when I tune to one of the problem channels and then go into the 360's satellite signal strength meter that the signal level swings rather wildly (from the 50's to the 90's), but if I measure this same transponder/same satellite from another receiver in the house, it is as steady as a rock.
My fear is that I have a bad receiver - but this seems like a very odd malfunction. Anyone else ever had a similar issue?
-Cole Clark
tawilson 11-10-05, 07:38 PM Sorta similar, but my intermittent problem channels are HBOhd, ESPN, UHD and HDNET. Especially HBO on Sunday nights when Rome is on. I think it's cause more people are watching it. Discovery is usually rock solid for me.
Especially HBO on Sunday nights when Rome is on. I think it's cause more people are watching it.
That is not possible, the amount of people watching it can not have any effect like that. You do not draw any more or less power from the satellite based on how many people are watching that channel.
I'd vote for the bad receiver as well. That's the EXACT behavior I noticed when my Toshiba 3000 fried itself. I went through all the same direct connect scenarios too.
dusterscott 11-11-05, 10:51 AM Have you guys rebooted to see if that helps?
tawilson 11-11-05, 06:41 PM Sorry John, it was a bad joke. And rebooting helps a little but it's still unwatchable.
Was curious if anyone out there is using their Sammy remote to control a Zenith TV. For some reason I can't get any of the Zenith (or LG) codes to operate my Zenith Plasma.
Anyone ?!?!
Channel 5.1 (WTTG-Fox 5) will not stay in my guide :( . I constantly have to add it back in. It's the only channel to do this. It happens on both of my TS-360's.
Anyone have any thoughts/suggestions on this.
Thanks!
dusterscott 01-12-06, 11:47 AM Have you tried doing a rescan of channels in your area? I don't have a problem with 5.1 in my area. Perhaps it's because the correct PSIP info wasn't being sent by the channel when you rescanned last time. Have you checked the local thread for HD reception in your area to see if others are having a problem in your area? Some receivers will have problems when PSIP info is missing - others won't.

Yes, but keep your dish installed and connected. That's how you get the programming guide. I've been doing this without subscribing to D* since August.
Yes all the cables and dish are still intact
all i am getting is a boot failure
should i take the card out?

I went through (2)-TS360 units and both have had the same problems. Worked flawlessly for 18 months, then it would freeze, I would get messages "service temporarily not available"...then it would freeze. I would have to "reset". Sometimes I'll go 2 days with no problems, sometimes it will freeze up 2 times in one day. This has happened to my first unit, then after 4 months it completely died, now this second unit is doing the exact same thing. replaced the LNB/Multiswitch and cable...still having the same problem. I have tried everything.
It's a shame, because it put out a nice picture. The build quality stinks. My 5 year old DTC-100 is still working great. I also had a similar problem with my H10, which by the digits in the model I believe is the Samsung unit. I'm really turned off by Samsung....They are nice when they work, but build quality has me concerned. Too bad Hitachi does not make STB's.
This box has serious issues. I have read many posts with the same problem.

Did you hit 'Select' when it was trying to find the satellite signals? From there you can tell the box you have no Dish.
Hopefully you can get the OTA only working that way...

I don't know Chrome. I never removed the card from my receiver. My original card is still in there. I have had to reboot on occasion. The only time it locks up is if I forget to turn the 360 off at night. When the tv is turned off it must require a handshake with the display.
brewtownska 01-12-06, 06:44 PM elove,
I started having the same problem you have over the past 2 weeks or so, where 1 HD station keeps dropping off my usable channels list. I'm in Milwaukee, but it's also the FOX station that is my issue (here it's mapped as 6-1). I'd say it's about every 24 hrs that I have to go back into the settings and move my channel from the deleted list to the save list in order to see it again. I bought my TS360 CHEAP on Ebay. Looks like it was either never upgraded, or someone did a master reboot, as when I check the software upgrades area, I don't see any. I'm using mine as OTA only. What version of firmware do you have? Might at least help me figure out if taking it over to a friend's house to get the firmware updated via his D* system is worthwhile.

My TS360 does the same thing with WTTG. I seem to recall something about 2 zip codes being entered in the preferences causing it... Try deleting one of your zip codes, or if you have only 1 in there, make sure its a DC area zip if it really bothers you.
Good Luck.

I don't think that would cause it. I have 2 zip codes entered and use one of those Radio Shack A/B coax switchers to switch between my 2 antennas (Dayton's to the north of me and Cincinnati's to the south). I don't have any problems with that configuration. I believe the problem is in the station not passing along the PSIP info with the signal. Check if others in your area are having the same problem. Some OTA receivers, the 360 included, are particularly sensitive to this. Other receiver brands allow you to manually enter the original (before remapping) channel number with successful reception. Call or email the station's engineering department and ask them to check if everything's ok there. It can be frustrating dealing with some of these problematic stations.
stanyite 01-29-06, 02:44 PM On the bottom-right of the panel, use the 'output' button to change between component and rgb/dvi output. It shows you which output mode you're in on the display.
I have a TS360 connected to LG 42PX5D via an HDMI - to - DVI Sonicwave Cable. I have just two output modes available at TS360 front panel - YPbPr and RGB. The DVI indicator is not selectable and never lights up. I select RGB and do have video output even though the DVI indicator never lights; if YPbPr is selected, I have no video output. Am I truly using a DVI connection or a component equivalent?

There's a known issue with the 360 and DVI output...it just doesn't work. I called D* to bitch (even though I bought it myself at a store) and they sent me out a free H10 receiver with HDMI output.

Chrome,
I gave my brother-in-law my 360 who doesn't have Directv. We got the Boot Fail when we first set it up. You need to go into the setup and under dish type select No Dish. That should set you up.

I purchased my 360, too, and paid $325 in Dec 2004. What are my chances of getting the same treatment you received? So, am I or am I not getting DVI output? Is there a noticable improvement from RGB to DVI. It is worth the hassle? What's a H10, anyway? I paid $90 for the freakin' HDMI -to - DVI cable. Would I still be able to use it with an adapter?

Not sure what they are talking about. I have had a 360 for 2 years and DVI out works great to my Panny Plasma that has a DVI input.
An H10 is a very low end SD receiver. The H20 is the new non-DVR HD receiver. That is the one to get. It has significantly upgraded HD and SD PQ as well as superior OTA reception capabilities. D* upgraded me from the 360 to the H20 for free, including the 5LNB install.

I was unable to use my DVI output on my 360 when converted to HDMI above 480p/i. It works fine if you're going DVI-DVI (I used it for 2 years DVI->DVI on my older TV). DVI gives a better picture than component, from my experience.
I tried both a $30 Monster DVI/HDMI adapter from Radio Shack and the $8 DVI to HDMI cable from Monoprice. Neither worked. For $90, I assume Monster?
Panasonic said Samsung has some issues on DVI outputs for some cable boxes when converted to HDMI, I assume the same is true for the 360.

It works for some, doesn't work for others. I'm sure it's related to a specific firmware version. Do a search on the Internet and you'll see posts on different forums from people having issues.
When I first switched to a DVI cable and my 360 didn't work, I was racking my brain trying to figure out why, trying different cables, etc. Then I searched and saw I wasn't the only one.
66stang351 01-30-06, 05:31 PM I have a 360 and had it hooked up via DVI for a year. Then I had my TV repaired and now cant use DVI or RGB. Only the y/pb/pr component setting works. My tv can still connect to other units using rgb component but not the 360.

OK, here's my situation: Display is a LG 42PX5D with two HDMI inputs, one of which is labelled "HDMI/DVI." LG manual instructs to use this input if source video is outputting DVI, which is the case with the TS360. Using a Sonicwave HDMI/DVI cable between TS360 and display. I do have video from the display when I select HDMI as source at my display; however, the TS360 front panel indicator reads "RGB" as the output mode. If I cycle through the output modes I have just two choices: YPbPr or RGB. If I select component I have no video output at the display; if I select RGB I have video but the TS360 output mode indicator still reads "RGB." QUESTION: What output mode is actually getting to my display? If I put an HDMI-to-DVI adapter on the display and run "straight" DVI cable between display and TS360, will I truly be outputting DVI to display and will the TS360 DVI indicator light?

I have a dvi to dvi cable with a hdmi adapter. I have read you must plug in the dvi connector first then the hdmi adapter, mine works and the dvi indicator light comes on. I would leave everything on YPbPr then unplug the receiver, make all necessary hookups, power back up and then hit the ouput button. I hope this works. A hard reset also might help this problem.
rynberg 02-02-06, 06:45 PM DVI is RGB only.
I searched and searched this thread but couldn't find an FAQ or information regarding the process to soft and hard reset the 360 as well as the method to determine what firmware revision it is using if you're only using it as an OTA HDTV tuner.
Just bought a used 360 today. The previous owner used the 4-digit lock code. Does anyone know how to clear this?
[otherwise I'll have to wait for a response from the seller.]
brewtownska 02-10-06, 11:44 AM I'm not in front of my set, so forgive me if I'm wrong, but I think you can bring up some extra menus by holding the MENU key and then hitting the RIGHT button (both on the 360's front panel). If it's not Menu, then try the same thing with EXIT + Right or ENTER+ right...it's one of those combos. I use my 360 as OTA only, and when I got into that menu I don't see too much for options, but I think there's a master reset in there, and maybe you can specifically just reset the lockout code. I do know you get a LOT more options in that menu if your box is set to have a DirecTV dish...but make sure you have a valid access card to get BACK into NODISH mode if you started in OTA mode or plan to only use it for OTA.

grizbear 02-10-06, 11:52 AM Some Sammy 360 Stuff; Some learned the HARD way…
The current software revision is found under MENU->SYSTEM SETUP->UPGRADES
I believe the current one is 1.2.35 [7/2005]
Un plugging the box for a few minutes will cause it to reboot up on power on, or you can reboot it by pushing the button located in the lower right under the flip cover.
To access the service menu for a total reset to factory setup [with current software], go to box and hold down "ARROW RIGHT ->" and push "Menu" while still holding down "ARROW RIGHT ->"
Under "IRD Version" you also will find the current software version here.
Under "Commands/Default" you can reboot OR reboot to the FACTORY DEFAULTS, this should wipe any locking code.
IF you do not have a valid access card, it may squawk at rebooting, interrupt the rebooting by going to installation during the booting process and set dish configuration to "NO DISH" You may have to reboot again.
Good Luck!

I don't believe any of the upgrades addressed overscan. I see about that rate of overscan on the feed to my SD set if the Sammy is set for 1080i or 720p output; using 480i/p or "Native 1" fixes that. On HD sets H or V overscan, when fed from 1080i or 720p is minimal and my Iscan HD+ confirms this.
Marshall F 02-10-06, 01:50 PM Thanks for the input. Isn't there a service port on the 360? I wonder if overscan can be adjusted in this menu.
Additionally, I'd like to adjust or correct the black level if possible. Shadow detail is lacking in dark scenes, but bright whites are bright white. Anyone fiddled with these items?

There is a RS-232 port on the 360 which will allow a user to control the STB via personal computer. ASFAIK, there are no additional/different service functions there. I have never seen a DTV STB of any ilk that had white, dark or contrast or overscan controls and the 360 is no exception. With all the picture differences in the D channels, I ended getting a video processor.
EricJRW 03-02-06, 05:14 PM Do the firmware upgrades correct overscan problems? I have minimal horizontal overscan, but vertically - the 360 cuts off 5-8%...Is this occurring at the bottom? I notice the same thing, only on certain channels (which more likely means formats), and I thought maybe it was more the TV than the 360... Now that the 360 is implicated, I wonder if there is a fix?

You have to be tuned to an OTA channel to be able to select it.
IF you do not have a valid access card, it may squawk at rebooting, interrupt the rebooting by going to installation during the booting process and set dish configuration to "NO DISH" You may have to reboot again.
I recently bought a used 360 without access card for OTA use, I couldn't find any combination of soft boots, hard boots, or interruptions that would let me get into the 'Set Dish' menu without the 'insert access card' menu popping up. I finally had to get a card to get around this and set the receiver to "NO DISH". Anyone who buys such a receiver for OTA use should either have the seller set the box to this mode before selling, or get them to include the access card. (My dealer, a CC affiliate called T***** C******, told me to sod off after I got the box, found it wouldn't switch without a card, and asked them if they could help me in any way.) - DR
Has anyone heard of this problem:
I have my basic cable hooked up to the TS360. It maps all my analog cable channels in no problem (yet at least). However, when I go from a DirecTV channel to an analog cable channel, I loose (drop) sound on that analog cable channel. I am able to restore sound a couple of ways. One is to hit the INFO button twice, which causes the unit to re-tune the analog cable channel, and then I hit EXIT. Another is to hit the "Audio" button on the remote, and then just re-select my current audio setting. Finally I can usually just tune to another analog cable channel and everything is fine. Note that the DirecTV channels never loose/drop sound, they work fine the whole time.
Anyone heard of this? I searched quite a bit, but found no results.
I am running Software version 1.2.35.
Any help greatly appreciated! :-)
cole.clark 04-02-06, 08:24 AM That's a new one. However, I would suggest a hard reboot of the unit buy holding the central button and right pointing button on the unit itself at the same time. It will bring up a resets menu and you can select (among other things) "reboot."

Tried that, no luck. Seems to be a consistent problem, really weird.
stansylin 04-04-06, 10:24 PM Hi:
I am new to this forum. Can anyone help? I just bought a refurbished TS360. I do not have DirecTV yet. I connected the OTA to the AIRIN, RGB of my monitor to the RGB out, and powers the unit up. It first goes to STANDBY. I then press Power, it displays TS360, then HELLO, then BOOTING, and finally BOOTFAIL. I tried again with a Access Card I had bought from EBAY, with the same result. The Seller sent me a second unit, and it gave me exactly the same result. Once BOOT FAIL showed up, I cannot do anything with it except press power which puts it into STANDBY. I press power again, and BOOT FAIL displays again. If I press the red RESET button next to the Access Card slot, the sequence of BOOTING and then BOOT FAIL again. HELP! Thanks.

jawilljr 04-04-06, 11:13 PM What is on the monitor when all this happens? There should be a dialog screen that says "Installation". If it does not you might have to push the output button on the front panel of the box.
If it does just press select to get to the installation menu and select "No DIsh" The box will reboot. Then you have to scan for your local OTA.
BTW I am using the TS360 for an OTA only receiver and it works great.

I have another question if you don't mind. I am receiving analog channels. How do I set the unit to scan for HD digital channels. I did not do a scan. The unit just came up with the analog channels. Is there a way to go into SCAN mode? Thanks.
Stan
stansylin 04-05-06, 01:49 AM Hi Jerry,
I found the Menu which allow me to scan for the channels. Thanks for all the help. I am still learning about this unit.

flyingvee 05-12-06, 11:24 AM Guys - quick Q - like many above, picked up a 360 without a card. I only want it for OTA and switching - my question is, WHICH access card does the 360 need? P4, P5, or what? Went to the bay to score one, and saw all of these choices. TIA.
Marshall F 05-12-06, 02:01 PM You only need the card for setup. Perhaps you could borrow one locally, and then return it after setup. Don't know the type - others have had success using non DTV cards - they'll probbaly chime in.
I am getting a boot failure display on the TS-360. Is the unit dead. I have unplugged it for 15 minutes and then turned back on, now it just says booting, searching for satellite.
After 15 minutes it is still searching for satellite. Any thoughts before I call Directv.
I am using my Sammy 360 only as a OTA tuner for now. Is there any way to get the timer working without being hooked up to DirecTV? I would like to set the timer to tune in some programs while I'm away so I can record them on my VCR or DVD recorder using their timers.
scottb8888 06-27-06, 01:36 PM I love my Sammy. Where else can I get a cable tv input as well as coaxial digital output. I just have trouble with it rebooting on a daily basis. IS that normal for these. I just bought another on Ebay and was thining about switching them out. But I think that will lengthen my DTV contract.
Any help here?
I just bought another on Ebay and was thining about switching them out. But I think that will lengthen my DTV contract.
Switching/replacing one with the other, will not lengthen or change your contract with DTV. However you will need to call them to do it, and most likely they will make you get a new access card from them to do so. So the only thing extra is you probably will end up paying for a new access card from DTV.
Although you can sometimes argue with them to let you switch the card from your old receiver to the new one if you have been a good customer for a few years, they will tell you that they can't do that, but they in fact can. But you usually really need to 'discuss' it very heavily with them before they will. Last time I did it, I had to threaten them with totally canceling my 15+ year account with them at that very moment, if they would not switch over the card to another receiver. This all happened on a Sunday when my original receiver when down and a live race, the 2005 MotoGP USGP that I really wanted to watch was coming up on Speedvison/SpeedTV in about 2 hours.
Is anyone seeing green flashes, breakups, pixelization on TNT-HD on their Samsung TS-360 HD receiver. This is the only channel, I am having a problem with. I tried rebooting with the red button and I am still experiencing problems. It was tough trying to watch the Closer last night. At one point, the receiver locked up on me. I haven't tried a hard reboot (i.e., unplug it).
Thanks!
Marshall F 07-25-06, 01:17 PM Anyone tried hooking up verizon fios thru the 360? (via coax, in place of verizon's stb))
huskyboy 08-02-06, 08:42 PM I am interested in getting a ota receiver... reading through this forum... seems alot of people are getting dead units more frequently... wondering if it is worth getting off ebay... or is it quite risky due to all the bugs being reported...
Don't forget the 360 is a older and discontinued product, so it stands to reason there may be more dead ones out there now. And as far as buying from ebay goes, that can always be a risk depending upon the seller, even with new products.
dbldare 08-02-06, 10:45 PM I have a 360 that I don't need anymore, because I upgraded to the MPEG-4 unit from Direc. It's in perfect working condition, if you are interested just PM or email me.

dunno about the bay - lots of them there, cheap. but fwiw, I've scored two from forum members in the last couple monthes - one was pristine, the other one worked fine, just wasn't quite as nice. But both arrived exactly as the members described - if you're not in a hurry, just hang around. Or pm the guy above this post. :)
as long as they come with a card, they make great cable and ota receivers. I prefer the LG's color rendition, but for the money, the Sammys can't be beat. Heck - even if you were to have bad luck, you could still buy 3 - 360s for what an LG 3510 goes for, not to mention the LG4200a.
flattie 08-11-06, 10:14 AM Hey all,
I've had the 360 for 3 years now and despite the occasional reboot its been good to me. Lately I've encountered a problem that has me somewhat confused.
I'm in NYC area (long island specifically) and all of the locals have begun broadcasting sub channels in the digital domain.
The problem I'm having is specifically with FOX which broadcasts 5-1 and 5-2. If I tune to 5-2 (using the OTA) the Sammy immediately locks up - whether or not I'm getting a picture/signal. I can't change the channel, go to menu, or turn off the Sammy using the remote.
If I use the red reset button on the face of the sammy it will reboot and upon completing the reboot immediately lock up again. At no time during the reboot am I able to change channels but I can power off. Upon repowering the reboot continues with the same result - locking up at the end. I pulled the power cord and initiated a reboot in that manner and got the same result.
Frustrated, I hit reset and during the reboot powered off the sammy and went to bed. The next day when it powered up it was tuned to a channel in the low 200's, maybe 201 with a message stating that the show I was attempting to watch required a HDMI connection and something about copy protection. At that point in time I was able to change channels and what not but later that same night tuning to 5-2 immediately caused the unit to lock up or hang, freeze whatever you want to call it.
Short of deleting 5-2 from my program guide is there any solution to this??
Thanks
flattie
jdmac29 08-11-06, 10:33 AM I am no expert on this but I have read where some stations are sending out different signals on certain channels and I don't think it is your 360 or it could be different signals that the Sammy can not decipher which causes the lockup. Alot of the ota tuners are different my 360 will get more info on what is on than my ota tuner on my sony. My 360 requires reboot every couple of months also. For now I would delete the channel, I live in Memphis, TN and we only have one channel for FOX. You could also try doing a reset of removing your zip code and clearing out all you ota channels and then doing a rescan of all your digital ota channels. My 360 has also locked up where the remote was no use. This receivers tuner is old tech, I have read where the new directv h20 picks up great ota but you have to subscribe to directv and the hd package to get it.
Seriously try clearing out all your ota channels first do a hard reset with the red button after that then do you channel scan.
Hope this helps

flattie 08-13-06, 06:00 PM Okay, here's an update. I was flipping through the channels again and inadvertently tuned to channel 5-2 (FOX in NY) and the tuner locked up. Nothing I did would get it unlocked - rebooting - unplugging - etc. Called Dtv and the rep said that they were having problems with many of their high def tuners trying to acquire weak OTA signals causing the tuner to lock up. Apparently there is a signal and in the process of trying to lock on the channel the receiver freezes. He offered to send me a refurb'd H20 to replace the Sammy but I'd have to commit to another 2yrs I told him thanks but no thanks. Just got FIOS internet and waiting for the tv service. I managed to unlock/unfreeze the receiver by disconnecting the OTA antenna and rebooting. I then deleted out the sub channel that was giving me trouble. Just an FYI for anyone who encounters this problem.

I never encountered the issue with the 5-2 subchannel that you talked about...but I've had the issue with my RCA DTC210 (which is now unsubbed as is my 360). Ironically, my HDTIVO's have NO ISSUES with the 5-2 subchannels and my OLD OLD Hughes E86 also has no problems with that subchannel.
Luckily its a useless subchannel and not something I'd even think to watch. The issues I encountered were when the kids (or the wife) would tune by 5-2
I have two of these I want to use as OTA HD tuners. I bought them used without dishes. One has a card and works fine, even partly works without the card in it.
The other complains about "Invalid Access Card" every time I try to do anything, it's not set to "No Dish" and all the menu items are greyed out. There is a spot in the "Menu+Right" menu that looks like its for reinstalling the card but when I try that it just says "Invalid Access Card" . Think the card reader is broken? or do some of them need different cards i.e. P5 P6? Can a new card be used without installing directTv?
jdmac29 08-22-06, 02:10 PM I just upgraded on Saturday to a new H20, and I deactivated my samsung 360 today. I will check and see if the ota tuner can be used tonight. If you are interested in another one if you can not get yours to work please private message me.
paeriscope 08-29-06, 02:24 PM I just picked up a set of 3 receivers off of eBay. Does anyone know if I have to do anything special to receive the firmware upgrade? One of the receivers is still at 1.2.03, another is at 1.2.16, and the last is at 1.2.35. I hooked up the two non-updated receivers and swapped them into service, but I was wondering how long it might take for them to receive the update or if I might need to request the update get sent down the satellite. Does anyone have any recent experience?

You have to wait until DTV sends down the updates again, it's not something that you can request them to do. It could be anywhere from hours, days, weeks or even months before they schedule them to be sent down.
Roger Clark 08-30-06, 03:12 PM Has anyone heard of this problem:
I can't help you fix the problem, but just wanted you to know that mine does the same thing. I have programmed my Pronto remote with a button to reset the audio via the 2nd method you mention. For me, this loss of audio ONLY happens when I tune certain OTA HD stations. Any d* station or OTA anolog station works fine, only OTA HD stations seem to cause a problem and not all of them. I have assumed there is a difference in their PSIP or something.
For reference, this does not happen on my Sony HD-100 receiver.
Tonedeaf 10-29-06, 12:17 AM FYI to anyobody that goes through what I and seemingly many others have before.
Read THIS (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=741148) thread if you have had your 160 or 360 unplugged for a prolonged period of time and then go to use the unit and get nothing or just some clicking noises from the box.

I have seen this but only on ESPN-HD and UHD (Channels 73 and 74). It has happened 3-4 times the past 6 weeks, out of the blue, at night. Both channels are affected equally during both programming and commericals.
No problems with other D* HD channels.
Resetting the two-year old TS-360 doesn't fix the problem.
No weather issues.
Signal strength on Sat C (110) transponder 12 (where these two channels reside) is always 90+. Voltages on the test channels look fine.
The next morning, all is well.
I have an Oval 3-LNB dish with powered multiswitch. Could be one of the LNBs. Could be the multiswitch. Someone PM'd me with the exact same problem but never replied with what receiver he has.
Is there anyone else with the TS-360 that has experienced this problem of late?
Just bought a used 360 today. The previous owner used the 4-digit lock code. Does anyone know how to clear this?
[otherwise I'll have to wait for a response from the seller.]
I have the same problem. Going into the service menu doesn't work because when you choose factory default it asked for the lock code. Help please or do I just need to buy another card?

This will be the only fix, as you see DirecTv is owned by Fox and it so happens this " Lock up signal " is transmitted by FOX to get you to upgrade to one of their boxes which are now leased and also extend your contract, I would bet reports of these lock ups came around the same time as DirecTv was going leasing and cutting off third party receivers. Also I would wager Directv doesn't appreciate samsung giving consumers a choice of cable /satellite / OTA from a box they had to subsidize......so you see they figure that they could get a high turnover rate of unsuspecting consumers to convert from the old model ( not leasing ) to their new model ( leasing / longer contract ) by simply tweaking their signal. You may believe this is a Conspirory theory but if you know that the core Financial Models of these companies is built on squeezing their customers rather than acquiring new ones then you will see "everything is on the table" :D
Can you use any activated card on this unit? The one I currently have has the 4 digit pass on it, wondering if I can buy an activated card and plug it in. All I want is OTA HD, can't choose 'no dish' w/o 4 digit pass code.
EricJRW 03-16-07, 04:30 PM Anyone else seeing this?
I bring up the guide, select search, title, select the first letter and when the box goes to search it reboots... and has to find satellites and re-acquire the guide...
Does not do it every time and I'm not sure what conditions have to be met to cause the reboot...
Wonder if this is going to be another D* 'push to lease' problem?
I am interested in the HR20 (see this thread: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=820584 ), but am not sure if it's the route I want to go.
whines83 03-17-07, 01:24 AM does the samsung 360 work with analog cable??
what i mean is will i get a useable guide interface for my analog cable channels 2 thru 75..
i could care less about QAM capaibilities..
