Just got to the link page after my donation. Now all I need is a CD-R, forgot I was out. The last firmware I burned for my RP-91 was 236. Gonna give the newest a try.

Can someone check to see if the following still work after the FW update:

- DVD laser drive current measurement: Pause + Open (on main unit) + Display on the remote? I only get "LDD" with no numbers.
- CD laser drive current measurement: Pause + FWD-SKIP + Display on the remote? I only get "LDC" with no numbers.

This is on a CP-72.
Thanks,
JohnK.

I'm not sure exactly how the 72 reported, but it maybe reporting the values on the TV screen?

Sango,
Thanks. I checked that, but no, it does not appear on the screen. Rather odd. Also, the Initializing back to factory defaults; Pause, FWD-SKIP and Open for 3 seconds doesn't work either. However, the commands to check the FW version, jitter, and DVD and CD laser timers do seem to work.

Just wanted to make sure, the version check is ok?

If you put back the firmware disc in the player, the unit will reset and say completed. That's similar the Pause+Fwd+Skip+Open on the unit.

Sango,

I have a RP82 SDI premodded by PMS. I've read all +50 pages looking for user feedback since I'm afraid I'll lose the region and macrovision free part of my mod. I'm still trying to get in touch with PMS support but it doesn't seem to be as good as JVB's. Since you have a SDI RP82 too, here are my questions:

1- The SDI mod is always hardware based so it's safe to upgrade, right?
2- I'm not sure if PMS regionfree mod is hardware or EEPROM based. In case it's software based, would your JVB modded firmware work for me?

As many people said, thank you VERY MUCH for sharing all this and for your help.

JP.

PepeBiondi:

I don't have an SDI modded unit - however I do have an R3 unit which is pre-modded by 3rd company which uses JVB chips for their mods.

The SDI is hardware based which is why it isn't affected because it's tapped directly to the MPEG decoder (something like that).

The mods can be software or hardware based, but in either case, the software has to be modified to make it work.

The JVB modded firmware will work under the assumption that it is a JVB mod. It's basically a IC chip with wires going to different parts of the unit.

I happen to take picture of the mod during the summer when I was calibrating my units for optimal performance. Note, the IC was stuck on top of the daughterboard with a sticky pad and the legs were cropped in order for the chip to sit on the pad.

Hope this will help you identify which mod you have.

Just updated my RP-91. Watched some DVD's with Auto 3, may go back to Auto 2 which is what I've been using since owning the player.

Sango

I'm not sure, about that. Try to analyize all 3 just incase because Sam Scamardo saids Auto3 is recommended (I assumed you read his post).

PepeBiondi, you will lose it. I did this to my RP91 and it even locked it at Region 2. But reflashing with JVB firmware fixed it for me.

Sango
02-14-05, 06:28 PM
Yup! He's inquiring about the patched firmware which I have which will work on a JVB mod.

With the RP91 case, used SVC Disc to after the update. It never had a JVB mod.

Thanks Sango! Looks like I'll be keeping my RP-91 in Auto 3 from now on. Biggest difference was when watching some of my concert dvds that were shot on video. My Rush In Rio dvd which is non-16:9 use to comb like crazy. I would have to put the RP-91 in Video. Now combing is non-exsistent in Auto 3.

I got this dvd player and i like to update it, but i donīt know how.
Iīve downloaded "Panasonic DVD Firmware Update 2004-05.iso" -file.
Now i like to know, will that file update my player??
and if i burn it with nero i guess i have to use "CD IMAGE"? right?
and what kind of media? CD-R or CD-RW??
I tried it with CDRW and in to screen came text " This player is not combatible wiht update" or something like that....

I contributed and downloaded both the ISO (zipped) and FastWrite (RAR) disk images. When I tried to extract them to burn (WinZip and WinRAR), neither worked - came back with a CRC error. Are the images corrupt, or am I just doing (or not doing) something silly?

Sango - can you help??

Sango
02-18-05, 02:12 PM
I gotten a similar response like this before. According to Kevin, the images is just fine.

Are you using the latest version of WinZip and WinRAR?

If it still continues PM me with AIM/MSN/ICQ info, I'll take it from there.

cmow
02-18-05, 03:14 PM
Yeah, I'm using WinZip 9.0 and I had to download WinRAR, so I'm assuming I'm up to date with that one, too. I'm at work now, but will try again at home - maybe I'll redownload first before bugging you.

cmow
02-18-05, 04:50 PM
Not sure why, but I downloaded both from Internet Explorer, and they worked fine. The first time, I downloaded using Firefox. Was reading some articles on CRC errors, and it started talking about using different download managers, so on a whim I decided to use IE. Will now burn and see what happens - Thanks

I've just dwn/ld Blindwrite 4.5.7 and winRar, and have an msn acct. What do I need to do next to acquire the firmware for my Denon 1600 ?

Sango
02-23-05, 12:21 AM
jodeci:

You don't have to worry about BW 4.5.7, you can use Nero to make it easier.

Next step is in the start post, to provide me with the information so I can send directly.

Sango,

Made contribution and was successful with fw upgrade to 068 for denon using BW to download. It took awhile to figure out BW using winrar to extract--Links 1&2 really explained things while I was configuring BW.

I had to reset the unit after upgrade. First quick impressions:

-Less picture jitter on display (Hit 61UWX10B)
-Less 'mosquito noise'
-User settings appeared when pressing 'display' button
-Menu navigation appears to be on par or slightly quicker, but unsure
-Did not test for any layer changes

BIG thanks to Sango for answering my questions!!

Sango
02-23-05, 01:03 AM
jodeci:

I just noticed Kevin actually posted a link there with the 1600 so he must of changed it without me knowing.

BW is a very powerful program use it for backing up discs which have protections. For regular stuff, Nero is fine.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just to let members and new commers know. There will be change to a new source for the firmware. The images will be in ISO now to eliminate confusion of other images.

I've been searching this thread for 2 hours to find an answer to my upgrade problem with no luck, so...
Upgrading firmware on RP-91 to 262. Current version is 188. I downloaded ISO version and burned with Nero 6 to CD-R. 4X speed, track at once, finalize cd, verify files, no multisession.
Insert CD into RP-91 and after reading disk "no play" is displayed.
Next tried copying same ISO file using a different burning program; same "no play" message.
Next burned version 236 which is a nrg file (RP91v236.nrg) and got same "no play" message.
Any thoughts?
I sure appreciate all the effort that has gone into this thread, especially Sango!

Sango
03-02-05, 10:25 PM
NRG image doesn't work with Nero?

It sounds like you are burning the file to on disc which is incorrect. Make sure you're burning the actual image.

If it still continues, PM me with MSN/AIM/ICQ info, will go from there.

Sango, I'm embarrassed to say you were right. I did not burn the IMAGE. It's amazing how easy it is when you follow directions!
Major upgrade for me from 188 to 262 on my RP91. I had to do version 236 first (as posted previously) to get version 262 to be accepted. After system reset all is well.
Thank you! Thank you!

Question:

I have an XP50. I burn all my DVDrs on the same discs using NeroVision. Some of videos play and some don't. I don' think it's a burn issue. Do you think this firmware upgrade would fix that problem?

Sango

Yes, the earlier one is the one that has the lastest firmware. Notice that it is a smaller file since it doesn't have as much dvd player units supported compared to the newer one which does.

hey guys i followed the instructions and upgraded my dvd player, and everything seemed to work out fine, but it took about 1min to update my Denon dvd-1600, not 5-10mins like it said in the begining, after it was done it said in grey background "progress completed", then i turn off/on the player, used the reset technique and it said "initialized".. i guess everything went smooth.. but it only took a minute? is that ok? i do not have my remote right now to check if the firmware actually upgraded, how do i do it? and what should it say?

Sango
08-17-05, 03:08 AM
I listed 5-10 because on some units it's longer than 2 minutes and people would begin to worry because of the wait a moment message can be interpreted differently.

The firmware version check is PAUSE+OPEN on unit, + 7 on remote. The unit should be 068 on the player.

Hi all... I'm having a problem (see link below) with my rp91, and I'm wondering if a firmware update will fix it. The other problem is: This thread is 35 pages long and I was *hoping* for the cliff notes version somewhere.

My current version of firmware is: g188? Does this sound right? I held pause and open and hit the 7 button. That was the last four.

Wow,

I stumbled on this thread while searching for info on the Panasonic s97 DVD. I paid my buck, downloaded the 90 meg and updated my 1.5 year old Panasonic s55 DVD from firmware v228 to v273 in about 5 minutes.

Too early to tell what has all changed, but the disk loads quicker and the remote is more responsive

I have had my RP91 since 2001 with no problems. The other night I started to watch a movie and about 10 minutes in the player locked up like pausing the picture. Nothing worked on the remote or front panel. I finally unplugged it and after a few minutes it came back on front panel read welcome to dvd world ect. then reading disc then locked up again. I repeated the uplugging process and got it to come on and took the disc out, the close and went blank.

So far the only thing I can do is get it to come on one time after plugging it back in with welcome to dvd world ect. then nothing.

Any ideas ( I have tried other dvds and cds same thing reading disc------- then nothing front panel blank and screen. I havent udate the firmaware I cant remember which one it has.

Thanks in advance

I just wanted to extend a "thank you" to Sango and all others who have given instructions and advice on the Panasonic DVD firmware update. I also want to report my experiences.

I have a Panasonic RP62, and I mainly wanted to update the firmware so it would play DVD+R media. I downloaded the ISO firmware from the site that requires a PayPal donation to help out on bandwidth. It took about seven hours on my dial-up connection (around 4.0 kbps) to download the 89 Mb zipped file. That's a healthy speed for my connection.

The first time I tried to burn the ISO to CD-R, I used the little ISO Power Recorder tweak utility on XP. I've used it successfully a few times, but for some reason it would not work on this particular file. The burnt image looked perfect (just as the "good burn" was displayed at the download site), but when I put it in the DVD player I got a "noPlay" message on the front panel, and the TV screen stated that it was a non-playable disc.

After putzing around a while, I finally reinstalled my copy of BlindWrite 5.2.0.136, which I have not used in a while, and burned the ISO file to a fresh 700 Mb CD-R. I set BlindWrite for "Slow" burn and "Automatic" to burn to a Plextor 708A. Voila! It worked like a charm and only took about two minutes to finish the firmware flash.

The Panasonic now can play both DVD-R and DVD+R media. The only thing I'm wondering about are the "Auto 1, Auto 2" options on the Panasonic RP62. Now all I can find is "Automatic, Film, Video". I guess this changed with the update? It's no biggie, just wondering if anyone else had noticed the change, or if I'm missing something. According to the DVD Benchmark site, Auto 1 is the best setting, so hopefully that is equivalent to the "Automatic" setting.

Anyway, thanks again everyone for the info and making the firmware available.

Cheers!

First, thanks OP for posting this firmware.... nice gift to all of us panasonic users.

For those of you upgrading your RP62's... what firmware version did yours show initially and what did it change to?

Mine was showing H053 (i think) and now it shows H073 as the last 4 digits when I hit open + pause, 7

Also, Mobiustrip, when I hit the cinema button on the remote mine still toggles through cinema 1, cinema 2, and normal.

Where are you seeing those other options?

I have a question, I have a Denon 1600 made in June of 2002, and when I did the procedure for firmware version my unit said V100 502054.... is there a newer version?

The Pq has always looked superb, I even went as far as to buying both the 3910 and 2910 and was Pissed to find for component the 1600 cannot be touched! (the audio is another story)

anyone running OSX on a Mac able to burn the RP91 firmware? i can't follow the directions listed on an earlier post because the only version of Disk Copy is OS9, and the version included on OSX in the OS9 emulator doesn't work to burn this image.

i finally got my Mac to burn some discs of the panasonic rp91 firmware update that the rp91 recognizes...problem is, the RP91 tells me "this update is not compatible with this player". i doubel checked and made sure the ISO image was indeed the rp91 firmware update, which it is. the other test disc i made using different burn settings isn't rejected by the player but just sits in the player with the RP91 saying "play", with nothing happening. it won't let me stop i either - i was hoping this was a firmware update happening but it's been over 10 minutes and it's still stuck on "play".

Doubtful. One of the major differences between the XP30 and the XP50/RP91 is their ability to play DVD-RAM discs. Apparently this extends to some other formats as well.

Just another XP30 firmware update datapoint.

i'm going to get a new DVD burner this weekend so i did the update to minimize
problems.

i paid my buck, downloaded and extracted the iso image and tried to burn (per
instructions at download site) with Nero Express 5.5 which i got
free with a cheap CD burner years ago. it failed - i tried everything.
i have had nothing but trouble with Nero Express...dunno...other's here seem to like
it..maybe full copy is different.

anyway, i used Alcohol 120% burn wizard (which defaulted to DAO/SAO)
and it burned perfectly 1st time. 4x burn with hp cd burner to 16x Memorex CD-R.

I checked out player diags like laser current, etc. all went as
expected so i took the plunge. update took about 5 minutes, initialize
and reset were not necessary, ie. it rebooted just fine. i restored
my settings and all seems fine.

previous version was V005 65H268. new version is V005 65H302.

many thanks to Sango and others for great info in this and other threads.

Great to hear cougar!

As a precaution, I would use the reset sequence for the units after the update, simply because the region can jump by itself or get unexpected operations from doing this.

cougar97201
11-10-05, 11:21 AM
makes sense, will do. glad i wrote settings down :)

oh yeah, minor question about laser diags...i did it once and found (for both dvd and cd) initial and measured to be within 1 of each other. a few seconds later
i did it again (too slow writing info down) and noticed they shifted apart a bit...
but still within 2 or 3 of eachother. is there an observer effect? is this
something one should do rarely for fear of hurting lasers?

thanks, phil

Sango
11-10-05, 02:07 PM
Phil:

The laser diag would be used if something is definately wrong with the laser - can't read discs or something of that nature. A good read out would show the range would be +- (a few numbers) compared to the initial, otherwise there is a problem. The laser diag doesn't does not detemine if there is an issue of the optical's focusing mechansim if that part fails on the laser(ie. laser shows fine but cannot focus).

Sango

What you can expect from using the update is the following:
- Better player response
- Improved PQ
- Faster layer change
- Better media support

All true. I have been very happy since upgrading the firmware.

Oleus, here is some more information -- I originally posted it back on page 13 of the thread.

My player has 262 loaded. There was someone who wanted to go back down to an old version, and was having problems, so I did some experimenting:

I have 4 versions of the firmware for the RP91:

1)v.262
2)v.259
3)v.250
4)v.236

I do not have (and after this will probably download from the original RP91 firmware thread) v.227.

This is what happened:

I popped in v.259 and v.250. In both cases they played and went to a screen that said "Completed. Please Eject the Disc." Nothing happened otherwise.

V.236, however, brought up the "This player needs update. Do you Want to Update? Yes No" screen.

"No" was highlighted. I moved it to "Yes" and hit enter.

It updated (down-dated?), finally going to blank screen with the display reading "read". This made me nervous -- I expected the "Completed. Please Eject the Disc" screen. When I didn't get anything after 5 minutes, and with some trepidation, I shut down the RP91 and powered it up again. It turned on (whew!) so I popped in a DVD. The down-grade set the region number to zero (press Pause+Open on player, #6 on remote; first digit on display is the region number) -- I had to initialize the player to get it back to region 1. (Hit Pause, BWD Skip, and Open on the player until it says "initializing" then let go of pause and hit stop to get it to display "reset".) The DVD played fine and the region said it was 236 (pause+open, #7)

I then upgraded back to v.262. I had to reinitialize the player again -- it then said it was 262.

I decide to repeat the process for verification -- The 250 and 259 discs still don't work, the 236 disc brings up the "yes/no" update screen. I down-graded back to v236. This second time it went to the "Completed. Please Eject Disc" screen. I didn't have to reinitialize this time (it stayed region 1). It is updating back to v.262 as we type. After I finish I'll re-run the Service Disc 2 hacks just to be safe.

Anyways, my player has been able to go up and down -- but only down to v.236. You can upgrade from v.236 to v.250 or v.259.

In other words, assuming you have good disks, presumably you can go down to v.236 from any other version (or up to it from v.227) but only up from from the others. Also, presumably, you can go from any version up to 2.62 -- but perhaps not.

Finally, presuming you have a good CD burn, for the older firmware versions (prior to the one Sango posted), you should have the following on the disk:

When you are done, you will have a new CD with a large volume name of something like "MEIAVCCODS...." -- it will be very long. On the cd you will have the MEI_DVDP folder and the VIDEO_TS folder. Inside the MEI_DVDP folder (Matsushita Electronics Inc?) there will be a .FRM file (firmware) and a .PGC file (no idea). When you have this disc created, you'll be ready to go. Stick it in your RP91 and party.

Let me know if you need any of the various versions burned, I can make you a copy or email you the disk image.

The version seems to be a bit of an issue and trying 227 would be the possible way to getting it to version 262.

The version seems to be a bit of an issue and trying 227 would be the possible way to getting it to version 262.

Sango,

Why do you think v236 is an issue?

As I posted above, I had no problem going directly from 236 to 262. I used the first upgrade disk you posted a disk image for.

I haven't played with it, but don't know if you CAN go "down" to 227.

As far as I know you can go up from any version to any higher version, but that of versions 236, 250, 259, and 262 the only one you can go "down" to is 236. I haven't tried 227. But I do know that, using the first disk that you posted with v262 firmware, you can go up to it from both 259 (where I was originally at prior to getting the 262 disk from you) and from 236 (which I was able to go down to after I had already loaded 262 from the first disk image you posted).

It seems Oleus is using the latest disk image you have posted, which seems to support additional models/firmware updataes than the first you posted. Could the issue be with the firmware on this second disk?

For what it is worth, this is the "history" of my RP91:

v227 (version as purchased)
v236 (upgrade)
v250 (upgrade)
v259 (upgrade)
v262 (upgrade, first disk image you posted)
v236 (downgrade)
v262 (upgrade, first disk image you posted)

I actually do have a cd with v227 on it, but I haven't tried it out and am hesitant to try loading it for fear it might corrupt my player.

Dr.Joe:

There could be something on 236 which is conflicting an owner's player to not allow them to update to to 262. It's more of process of finding the correct firmware combination to find the correct one to get around this problem. The correct combination could be different per user's unit.

I don't think there is an issue with the firmware discs because I've can use either disc to update RP91s which member's sent to me for repair. At least 1 unit I tried to update had an issue updating that I used 227 to go to 262.

The firmwares I have on disc for downgrades has only RP91(227), RP82(266), RP56(045), which were all modified with version overrule.

I'm not sure if the 227 disc you have is the one I've provided. If it's the orignal, then most likely it's not the overrule version.

You've lost me, Sango...

As far as I can tell, every v.227, 236, 250, and 259 disk is "identical" -- they were for RP91's only. They have the same directory and file format (which I reported above). I got the v227 disk emailed to me by someone, the rest I downloaded on the old Panasonic Firmware update thread.

The only version that seems different is the v262 disk -- this one is "packaged" on a disk that has many other model/firmware versions.

Are you saying that v236 on one RP91 is somehow different that v236 on another unit? And that some disks are "masters" which can be downloaded to, but that others are upgrade onlys?

Sango
12-09-05, 05:05 PM
For these Panasonic unit models, the offical discs are packaged with different firmwares for different models. I'm not sure if Panasonic released a disc which only worked for a particular model only during that time. If they didn't, the ones which are only for RP91, were extracted out from a package which is why users easily obtained them because of the small file size.

I wouldn't say that the 236 would vary from one unit to another, but there might of been a intallation problem but didn't show any and the unit works fine. However, when installing an updated firmware, the problem occurs.

The offical discs is update only. The downgraded versions is a modified official with version overrule to bypass the version check so the unit can update.

DrJoe
12-09-05, 05:52 PM
Hmmm....

I was under the impression that the firmware disks I have were "ripped" from RP91's in someone's showroom (the thread is now in the "archive" -- so I would have to search to find it and see who the originators of the disks are).

Joe

Sango
12-09-05, 06:29 PM
It could be possible that it can be ripped from the player. There is a interface on the daughterboard, which allows a device to attatch to it. What it's actually used for, I do not know.

Gentlemen, I believe I actually have somewhere, the burned disc's that I used to respectively upgrade my firmware on my RP-91. Initially I had the version before 227 and upgraded to 236, then to 250, and again to 259, then with the multiple firmware's disc to 262. If it will help, I know that I have the zipped "nrg" files of 250 & 259, and the "iso" file of the most recent firmware's disc.

Updating all the firmware steps seems a bit challenging from the looks of a lot of folks on this thread.

Is my RP-91 missing a lot sitting at the 250 firmware? Are there significant changes to the firmware from 250 to 262 to warrant the dain brammage and time to update?

hi i have a european panasonic dvd-s75 updated from v020 71P223 to latest with no problems, then went to update my european rv-32 from v187 6A1109 , put the disc in waited it read the disc then said this upgrade is not applicable to this player. after a bit of research it turns out there are two versions of the rv-32 an american one region 1 and a european one region 2 but if you open them up they are not the same machines internally, sango do you have access to the european rv-32 updated firmware as i have searched the web and found a few sites but these say ONLY for region 1 machines won`t work in european region 2

no matter what i do i just can't get my rp91 to accept ANY firmware disc. i'm at 236 and have tried discs of 262, 259, an overwrite of 236, and all i get is "no disc" no matter what i do and how i burn it (and from many different sources)....the only ones it recognizes as an upgrade are the 262 discs and even then it says it's an incopmatible upgrade.

i wonder why my Panasonic RP91 is "stuck" on 236?

willi get a better picture upgrading from 236? (i run it in progressive mode).

update -

one of the downgrade firmware discs someone sent me (227) finally worked on my rp91 (my player was on 236 and refusing to upgrade to 262).

now the only trouble is, the previous 262 discs i had (that were recognized but said "incompatible upgrade" on my previous version 236) now aren't recognized either.

how in the world can i get 262 on my player!?!?

Hi Sango.

I purchased the firmware download for my RP82 to update from 266>302. The update went well, however, I have lost my 'Progressive Scan' feature! I can't select anything but 480i and when I push the 'Progressive Scan' button on the front of the player, a message on-screen tells me that Progressive Scan has been disabled (oh, oh!) and I can't seem to turn it on. I even did a 'reset' procedure but that didn't solve the issue. Without it going into Progressive Scan mode, I can't access the 'Auto 1 and Auto 2' menu's. Other than that, it plays DVD's fine

Has anyone else run into this during a firmware update and if so, is there a 'fix' for it???

Also, does anyone know what are the supposed 'fixes' or updates are when going from firmware ver. 266>302 on the Panny RP82? - just curious...

Thanks for any help.

Sango

The unit is working perfectly. All your user settings will need to be set after the firmware update. From what has been described, this part has not been performed yet.

robtec88
01-18-06, 12:10 AM
I have set all my user settings (that I know of) after the firmware update. That's how I discovered that I couldn't select 480p from the default 480i - either in the on-screen menu or by pushing the Progressive Scan button on the front of the player. It just tells me that Progressive Scan has been disabled?!?! After that, I did a 'reset' and then tunred the player off then on and went back into the user menu - it still won't let me choose 480p.

PS - the firmware update went through without a hitch - no black screen after update and it plays my region (1) fine...so I'm not sure what went wrong. Maybe I'll have to 'downgrade' back to ver. 266, if I can find a firmware source for the older versions!

Thanks

Sango

You also need to remember that the setup menu is also part of the user settings. The Progressive is disabled because you did not enable it yet.

OMG! did I ever have a major 'brain-fart' - sorry, my bad!

You're right, I forgot all about going to the 'setup' menu. That's where you enable Progressive Scan. Yes I've now since been able to turn it on and all works well... (sigh of relief)

Thanks very much for your help Sango. Now I can continue to enjoy my RP82 - even if it's outdated by today's players. It still works well and I'm not making a move to another player until Blu-Ray and HD-DVD gets sorted out (or if my player packs it in!).

Sango, do you have an idea what was added, fixed or improved upon with this firmware update from 266>302?

Thanks again.

Hi Sango. I had a question for you in another thread but I guess you're not subscribed any longer so here it is.

The laser current measurement test is just a diag function performed on the DVD player. I have mentioned it a few times before for other optical related questions.

DVD Laser test:
Press PAUSE + OPEN, press DISPLAY on remote

CD Laser test:
Press PAUSE + BWD-SKIP, press DISPLAY on remote

The display would be LDD/C_XXX_YYY
XXX = initial current
YYY = measured current

The measured should be around +/- a few numbers around the initial current, otherwise it's failed. I believe I recall that the diag doesn't account for the focusing mechanism part of the optical since this only tests the beam.

If the tests show fine, and have trouble reading discs, definately the focusing mechanism on the optical has failed.

Sango, I've recently purchased a used RP56 on eBay. It hasn't arrived yet but I've been surfin' all over this site gleaning information mostly provided by you so I can be ready in case there's trouble. (and I guess I have too much time on my hands) I do have a couple of questions I haven't been able to find the answers to.

First, if the focusing mechanism has failed, is that included with the optical pickup?

Second, have you found a suitable replacement motor other than what comes with the spindle assembly or has Panasonic 'fixed' the motor? If you have and they have not can you provide details about how to replace just the motor? Thanks for all you have contributed.

gtaylor74

The replacement spindle motors direct from Panasonic appear to be pretty good. I had failed ones in both my RP82 and my RP91. Had them both replaced with the new motors over a year ago and no issues at all since.

I found today there may be a new firmware for my RP62 and some Googling I found this thread where I thought I would find the file. Now that most free links are dead, I found the one where you have to "donate" before having the link.

Is Panasonic aware of this and is this legal? Just curious... because either the distribution of the firmware is not authorised by Panasonic and if it is then maybe it is not acceptable to collect money with it?

Is there a list of changes between all fw revisions?

Panasonic does not publish lists of changes between revisions. They also don't provide a download site for "at home" firmware updates.

If you are worried about legality, get an official update. Call Panasonic, get an RMA, and ship your DVD player postage pre-paid to one of the Panasonic service centers. Theyll upgrade it for free (I think) and ship it back to you (I don't know if you have to pay for postage both ways or if Panasonic will pay for the return I suspect you will pay both ways).

If you can figure out the part number, you can also order (purchase) a recovery/service disk, but the firmware on it may be older than the firmware you have, and it isn't easy to figure out what the part numbers of the recovery disks are. I've posted a few lists with part numbers that I dug up -- see http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=3579825&&#post3579825 and a few of the subsequent replies. Some of the service disks are quite expensive (the disk for the DVD-RP91 was more than $100). You'll also have to find a reseller that really has them, or buy the directly from Panasonic's parts department (if you call the parts department, or email them, they may be able to give you the part number you need).

The people who are providing the "donation required" download site claim they are doing it only to defray hosting costs. There are enough copies around that if you search you can probably find a free copy somewhere, but you may have to work to find it. Any of these non-official updates are "at your own risk" in that Panasonic does not sanction updating your player at home.

Hello Sango,

Once again, thanks for making the most recent and all previous updates available for us video junkies. Your efforts are very appreciated. I have a RP-91 that I updated to v262 when this firmware was made available a while back. The update was successful and I reset all previous settings that were overwritten by the update. The player has been operating flawlessly since, but recently I've noticed a problem that may or not be player related.

When outputting a non-progressive 480i signal via component to my Sony 42A10 and viewing a 2.35:1 movie, the image is perfectly centered vertically, with an equal amount of black bars (2.25in.) on the top and bottom. But when enabling the progressive feature, the image shifts upwards a quarter inch, with 2in. of black bar on the top and 2.5in of black bar on the bottom.

I've tried several other DVD's with both anamorphic and non-anamorphic titles with the same results. I don't have access to another player, so I can't check to see if it's my player or display. Have you seen/heard of this problem?? Please reply or send me a PM with your thoughts.

Thanks again for your expert help and assistance...

DrJoe

1) 1/4" is tiny -- why do you care?

2) It probably is your set. I don't know anything about Sony's, but most sets have independent geometry settings for each unique scan rate. If your set has independent geometry settings for 480i and 480p, then this is the likely cause. But you will have to do some searching to find out what the scan rates are.

Last three numbers are the version number.")
but it doesn't work, it only opens and closes the drive.
The Reset function does not work too? Is it different to an European Player?

Is the firmware update Image still the same as
Disk #RFKZD5TR006 from vancebaldwin,com
for Players: dvdcp72, dvdlv65, dvdlx9, dvdrp62, dvdrv31u, dvdrv32, dvds35, dvdxp30,
dvdxp50, sadk10, sadp1, saht690, saht70, saht700, saht900, sast1
Price $7.50
Or is the Disk #RFKZD5TR006 just a service and not a firmware update CD???

because i don't want to hurt my DVD System  ;)

Thanks for your answers and help

Bye DanjelSan :)

Sleepman, I actually have the 50 MB zip file in ISO form. I used it about 3 years ago to update my RP-91 to version 262. If your interested let me know and I can send it to you over instant messenger. File too big to upload to an e-mail account.

I've stumbled upon gold with all the firmware updates. Thanks goes out to Sango.

Yet, I'm still saddened because on the firmwareupdate.us site my version of Panasonic DVD player is not listed. I have SA-HT65. The firmware website covers SA-HT67, (Just one model off from victory, lol).

I have searched high and low for my required firmware but ran into nothing but brick walls.

Could anybody here point me in the right direction or provide me with the firmware if they have it?

Thanks.

I think i just fried my XP 50..

I had some issues getting a picture from it, used the reset combo described here, and now it wont play anything.

Itīs a modded XP50, originally from the US but imported to Europe and modded to play back everything.

Any tips?

Damn this sux :-(

Hi. Found that Panasonic offers free updates for the newer players and recorders:

Go to Panasonic Canada - Customer Support - downloads.

Just type the model no. to get the file.
eg. "dvd" or "dmr" gets you a listing.

Still looking to update my RP56 to v62. Unforunately, there are no files for the older models.

Regards.

I found the iso that was posted on piratebay, and tried it, ran it the first time, got the "update is required on this player, continue?" After selecting yes, it took a couple minutes, reset the player, but still shows as 032. I can play SOME dvd+R discs now, but having a lot of them that still dont want to play. If someone has the update iso that will bring this to 082, could you please contact me with where to find it? Thanks
