I don't know if you D* subscribers already know this or not, but I'll post it anyway. This weekend (Oct 15-17) if you have Total Choice, you'll get Total Choice Premier for free. That means Showtime-HD and HBO-HD will be available for those of us who don't subscribe to those packages. Just a little FYI.

I knew about the free preview, but wasn't sure if it included the HD channels. I guess I'll have to check out a few over the weekend.

Well I'm guessing it includes the HD channels since they come with the HBO and Showtime packages. I've been wrong before though. Remember when I said to stick a fork in the 'Stros?

However, I did want to point out to anyone with DNS waivers at D* that they might want to do everything they can to not lose them at this point. I've got a buddy who was just turned down by all major networks. This is the first I've heard of NBC and ABC turning down people in our area. I think it is likely because locals are expected to be up shortly.

Do you plan on moving to Houston when HD locals come on next year or stay in CS?

FYI Cox lovers, I noticed that Cox lists KBTX-DT and KAMU-DT as part of their Basic package (http://www.cox.com/texas/includes/systems/sys-brya.asp). This would lead you to think that these channels are being passed unencrypted and could be had with just a QAM tuner and no digital service. My guess is that KCEN is being passed unencrypted as well.

Hmm interesting about the unencrypted, anybody have a fusion to test this with, I spent most of the night playing with/converting my HTPC to Media Center 2005 and it does have support for HDTV PVR (through the ATI or Fusion solution).... Would be really nice if they send out the channels unencrypted.... Wonder if they will run on a "basic" cable line or if I would have to resign up to get "digital" cable...

I cancelled cable about a year ago but never lost the basic channels (2-15) or whatever it was.... So if I could access the channels that would be sweet (kinda doubt it though).... Still MCE 2005 rocks, and Ive only have 1 day to play with it so far.

If you're feeling really ambitious, you could buy and return a small HDTV from CC or BB with a QAM tuner to test the theory. You're in the perfect situation since your basic cable is still on.

I'm really not sure what would happen. All I know is that they are listed under the Basic package (http://www.cox.com/texas/includes/systems/prn-brya.asp?strSvcLvl=Basicd) now. There is a little disclaimer at the bottom saying that additional fees or equipment may be required, but why list them if they are not available?

Well if I had "free cable", a new HDTV or video card with a QAM tuner, and Cox was offering FOX (KWKT-DT), NBC (KCEN-DT), and maybe ABC (KXXV-DT), and I didn't have DNS for NBC or "live" in Houston for FOX, I think it might be worthwhile to find out. We just have to get Jag motivated.

Yeah KCEN would be nice for me, dont get it relaibly enough from htown since I dont have my monster on the house anymore.... plus the future stuff as well (KYLE etc)....

I called KWKT yesterday and actually talked to the station manager AND Lou, their engineer. Not much new to report. They still don't plan on boosting their power until the digital transition in 2006(?). They have toyed with the idea of putting the HD signal from KWKT on as one of KYLE's sub-channels, it just can't be the primary, as the FCC considers KYLE 28 as the primary. FOX still considers KYLE as a satellite broadcast, so no free splicer. :( Bottom line is still no FOX HD, unless they get it on COX Cable, or until D* finally comes through.

The subchannel thing would be nice - if I lived on Woodville Rd! Sounds like FOX is just being cheap with the whole splicer thing. Hope D* can get it done without a long holdup.

Well did some reasearch for those cox people.... Munky788 let me borrow one of his tuners on my cable connection and KBTX (710) and KAMU(700) work fine but KCEN (730) is grouped with the "pay" channels, ESPN(732) etc and didnt work.

So Im assuming anything in the 730+ range is encrypted and/or on the "digital" spectrum.... but since kcen wasnt on their schedule yet maybe they are trying to re-allocate bw to move it into the unencrypted spectrum.... it should be interesting to see when they add new channels where they go.

EDIT: did some more reading on the cox webpage and it lists KCEN in the digital cable program list (not basic or expanded) so I guess now we know its correct.

I knew you would come through. Sucks that KCEN is with the encrypted channels. Hopefully, bw constraints don't force KWKT-DT (if ever added) to be placed with the pay channels as well.

Can you guys help me out? This is the only thread that I've left open that is outside the traditional DMA organization. For the purposes of this forum, because the point one of you made, I'm considering Bryan/College Station, TX as somewhat of a "sub-DMA" that has developed it's own market with it's own affiliates. (I'm assuming there is at least one network that has an affiliate in both Waco and Bryan).

The problem is that there is no Waco thread for newbies coming in looking for answers from that area. What I'd like to do is one of two things - either:

1)If someone can start a Waco thread and summarize what stations are available in HD. Then we'll have:
A) Waco, TX - HDTV - for the Waco/Temple, TX DMA
B) Bryan, TX - HDTV - for the Bryan/College Station, TX "sub"-DMA.

2) If there really isn't enough activity to support two separate threads, we can make this the
Waco / Bryan, TX - HDTV thread which will still consider the two areas separate (like the Washington / Baltimore thread, etc.)

Interesting request. Some thoughts and answers to your questions...

Yes, B/CS has its own HD CBS and PBS stations (separate from Waco). It also has its own Fox, ABC and NBC, but these are mainly retransmissions of Waco stations with local B/CS news.

I'm sure someone can put together a Waco thread - but the reality is that no one posts on this forum from Waco. So you would have a thread with one post... (But perhaps others might join. I think I remember seeing some Waco people talking in the Austin thread maybe?)

Even though we are one DMA, Bryan/College Station is really pretty much its own entity - two of its own HD stations - and it is just as easy to receive Houston stations OTA as it is to receive Waco stations (although neither is easy). Damn these antiquated DMA's!

My guess is that the members that post here on this forum would resent a new thread being the Waco/Bryan thread since none of us live in Waco. Perhaps it could be the College Station/Bryan/Waco thread, that would probably make us all very happy!

I don't know why Waco hasn't made a thread yet. I guess the info could be copied from the first page into a Waco thread. Maybe people from that area will show up.

I don't know how much Waco people would care to hear our issues with trying to get Houston HD. They probably shoot for Austin if Waco HD isn't working.

Good question, Waco is as large of a city as Bryan and College Station combined....

The Waco posts I have seen have been on the Austin thread. That makes sense since Robert Cooper's website (http://genesisht.com/AustinHDTV.html) includes their info.

To be honest, our number of posters isn't that large, but once we started a thread, people came together. Maybe that is all Waco needs. I'm just afraid that if you add them in with us that we will be talking about two completely different sets of topics all the time. Plus, they will have to put up with Aggie talk all the time (although I think we might already have some members from other Big XII schools that put up with it now).

If you must add them in with us, keep the name alphabetical - Bryan-Temple-Waco. I would also do my best to update the first page with Waco info if needed.

The threads are all listed as primary city only - Bryan/College Station was a temporary exception.

Soon, this thread will be re-titled as Bryan, TX - HDTV. Multiple cities are only listed when multiple DMA's are involved. You guys already sold me on Bryan being a separate DMA (for our purposes) - so Waco / Temple would be identified as "Waco" and Bryan/College Station will be identified as "Bryan" the only mult-city possibility would be "Waco / Bryan" which signifies 2 separate markets.

But, I'd rather keep the Bryan thread separate if possible. There's not many of you, but the thread is unbelieveably active for this market size. When I combine DMA's it's a combination of both geography and activity. I'll take a look at the Austin thread - if there's a lot of Waco discussion, I may actually make more sense to make it the Austin / Waco thread.

Glad you recognize our plight as being rather in our own "no-man's DMA", CPanther95! Are we really that unique being as actively involved as we are? I guess you learn to be a little independent and creative when you live "off the beaten path"! I find it interesting you used the analogy to the Washington/Baltimore area. Looking on a map, those two are only separated by 35 miles, whereas B/CS is practically equidistant from Waco, Austin, and Houston, with Waco being the closest at over twice that distance.

Washington / Baltimore was only an example of the title format (It's only 2 cities because it's 2 DMAs)

There are some combined DMAs that are 100 miles apart, but the activity was primarily from people that live in the middle of 2 small DMAs. I prefer not to combine DMAs that are too far apart, but I'm more concerned with having a "home" thread for everybody that comes to the forum for answers.

FYI... I ordered local channels today through DirecTV. A couple of notes:

1) You will have to add a second dish to receive them.

2) One thing to consider for those of you with older HD receivers is that when you add these local channels - they will replace up to one incompatible HD receiver for free. I just happened to activate my old Panasonic receiver last night (what luck! :D ) and now they are going to give me a new one. :D :D :D

3) At the moment when I pull up the local channels offered to us we get

CBS KBTX 3
NBC KCEN 6
CBS KWTX 10
PBS KWBU 34
FOX KWKT 44
PBS KNCT 46

I called KXXV (ABC) to ask about why they weren't there and they say they will be... they say that DirecTV technical is the problem at the moment.

If you are going to do this, call soon to get yourself on the installation schedule. No cost for any of this if you agree to another year of programming.

Thanks for the info. My wife noticed this morning KBTX saying they were or soon to be on D*. What do you mean by "incompatible" receiver?

Some of the older recievers do not have the firmware to be able to recieve signals from 4 separate satellites and are not upgradable. This includes series 1 tivos and many older hd receivers (D* will replace these free of charge given a new one year commitment.)

Supposedly if your reciever is not on the list, that's it - there are no exceptions.

We got a dilemma here. Is it worth the risk of losing my DNS for NBC and ABC to move back for a short time for a replacement for the DTC100 built into my F38310? What to do, what to do?

I would say that if you have DNS AND locals in Houston, I wouldn't do it. Here are some arguments against it.

1) If you lose them, they are gone forever. Neither ABC or NBC is giving out waivers now that they have locals on D*. At least two new subscribers I have talked with have experienced the same thing.

2) The odds of finding another incompetent CSR that will allow you to keep those DNS and receive Houston locals is very slim.

3) I don't know what they will do about receivers built into TV's (I'm assuming that is what a F38310 is). I have to actually give them my Panasonic in order to get the new receiver.

4) Unless you plan to stay in CS (i.e. receive locals from the 72.5 slot), you don't really have a overriding need for the new HD receiver.

I'm sure you can think of arguments in the other direction though...

I didn't think about the return thing. That's no good. I would like to have a free replacement for the DTC100 though (something new, faster, and improved).

I don't think it would be worth moving back at this point, even though I could get at least my old Phillips Tivo and my old Zenith DTV1080 HD receivers replaced. It is tempting, however, except I don't know if it would be worth the risk of D* "fixing" my DNS on NBC.

People are saying November 17th (http://texags.com/main/forum.reply.asp?topic_id=379990&forum_id=30&page=&opt=post) for the Cox DVR in limited supply. I'm guessing this is the HD DVR.

160GB huh, once again COX comes up short if that is for HD!

not to mention their HD boxes suck nut to begin with, good lord (and i made this comment to munky788 after i returned his hd box) that it was slow as molasses and just seemed slow doing pretty much everything.... no doubt that throwing the dvr side in there will make it even worse....

From what I've heard, the equipment is in place, but there is some kind of litigation going on with it.

Also, I mentioned Cox and KXXV-DT, but there are still no talks going on.

I truly hope it is not litigation, but rather some kind of technical issue. The lady on the phone (essentially just a receptionist though) certainly indicated to me at the time that it was a D* technical issue.

Litigation could go on forever...

Looks like my neighbor just got B/CS locals. I thought it was kind of strange they put the multiswitch outside, but it is supposed to be waterproof.

I thought I saw on CBS that the Texans vs. Broncos game later this afternoon was going to be in HD. According to the ST schedule on D*, it looks like it is!! TitanTV does not have it shown as HD on KBTX, but they have been wrong before. Also, looks like next week the Texans/Colts game will be HD, too. :cool:

They were going to put my new multiswitch outside until adding an extra room made it easier to put it inside.

The locals come up in my guide now, but I still do not have a picture for them yet. The installer said they should come on generally within 48 hours. Does that make sense to any of you? What is inside the receiver that would just make them "click on"?

That sounds kind of strange. I think my neighbor's were on right when the guy did the install.

That does not bode well. It was 7 p.m. when he finished. Perhaps he just didn't want to wait around for a connection...

Usually if you make a program change it shows up on your TV in a matter of seconds of notifying D*. Are you sure you have good signal on the new sat, and your receiver is capable of seeing it?

Looks like KTRK-ABC13 is having channel mapping problems again. I have to tune to 32-1 to get it. Also, LOTR on WB39 looks and sounds great tonight, although it is dropping out some. They have 5.1 audio set up now.

FOTR was pretty cool tonight except for the annoying WB bug framed for 4:3.

Any news on coverage for the Tech game this weekend?

Heck, I'm having trouble picking up KAMU (12-1) this evening.

I don't get ABC E/W on D* anymore, not since last year when we moved to the country. I had to re-apply for waivers then, and was granted only NBC.
KTRK was breaking up some before "Lost", so I turned to KXXV.

I'm not sure why KAMU wasn't coming in. I was picking up KRIV with no problems. Odd night I guess.

I don't know about the ABC West feed, but Lost taped off of the East feed just fine. I'll check my West feed when I go home tonight.

Hey Michael, any word on that ABC West feed? Mine still isn't available; just the East coast feed. I wonder if all the recent STB software updates and being in "Houston" has something to do with it.

To answer your question, I no longer have ABC West. Very strange. To be honest, I never really use it, but nevertheless it does strike me as odd that they would just drop it out of thin air. It was nice on football weekends though for that extra football game.

I was checking my guide and the only network under "all channels" now seems to NBC, no others besides PBS. That is strange.

Well, I checked my old Hughes receiver in the bedroom, and lo and behold, all the DNS networks show up on it in the "all channel" guide. :confused:

I just checked, and DNS networks are all showing in the guide on all receivers again after their mysterious disappearance.

Man, what another nailbiter today by the Cardi-Ags!! Everyone was probably expecting a wild shoot-out, instead a rather defensive battle. My son came back after the game to watch part of it on Tivo so he could see how loud the fans sounded on TV. He was naturally just a little hoarse! :)

I watched a little on the TiVo too after getting back from the game. It's hard to hear how loud the crowd is sometimes on the ABC games. They mic up the bands and pump that crap into the sound all game. ABC = all band channel. It was loud, but I don't think it was quite as loud as last week. Anyway, Whoooooooooooooooop!!!! That Baylor experience is slowly deteriorating. A win in a couple of weeks, and I think I will be totally recovered.

Woo-hoo! Well, I just got the word today that my 2 1/2 year old F38310 is unrepairable from the local repair shop. I'm not sure what the final verdict was, but the receptionist said the parts and labor were equal to or more than the set cost me. So now the ball is back in CC's court. No one said anything about loving cox, that is far from true. Since I split my cable bill three way with two other guys that could care less about HD, I really have no option. I'm hoping the cox dvr will come out as promised, but not too concerned. I'll be in Corpus Christi for a month using my dad's hd dvr that he has through TWC. Which, by the way, cost only $5 a month. Anyhow, about your 38310 predicament. Yes, you are blessed to have an "unrepairable" unit. Circuit City's policy is to give you that much in credit toward a new one or replace it with equal value. Since CC cannot replace it with a new one that is comparable (being 38"CRT w/ HDbox) they will most likely move in their favor to give you the credit. This way, you'll end up forking over your own extra cash to fully replace the 38310.This is what I did on mine. The only thing is that I did that in Corpus Christi, the same place that calls me Mr. Returnit. They've returned 3 sprint phones after having them 3months-1 year and an LCD monitor after having it 3 years just to mention a few. The ccity here is much more strict and uptight; I try to avoid going in there altogether. Good luck with them. *****Note: If they make you an offer you don't like, tell them you want the number to the "cool line" and make sure you ask a manager for it. This is their resolution department which is responsible for more firing a year than I can explain. They take these calls very seriously. Sorry about the long message but I worked there for 3 years, so I know how to work the system. PM me for any questions.

Thanks for the info Munky. Hopefully, the whole process won't be too difficult. Although when I had to replace my DirecTiVo after two years, the local CC pushed me to my limit. That "cool line" knowledge might come in handy.

#1: I'm not a Cox lover. ;p If you really must know the truth, I live in a complex that pays for basic and extended cable, so I pay $35 per month for everything Cox offers in cable land (including all the HD channels). Even though they are a pain in the butt most of the time, the cost is still on the winning side.

#2: I think it will be highly unlikely. The last word that I received from their national call center was that it is NOT scheduled to be released within the next 30 days (from November 2nd).

Ok, straight from the Customer Care Manager of the B/CS Cox Communications Branch:

"We received the DVR units in this week and are about to begin a testing phase within the next few days that will last for a period of 10-14 days at which time they will be made available to the public."

I wouldn't count the holidays.. so I would think sometime in the first few weeks of December we should expect to see the DVR launch in the B/CS area for Cox Communication.

Also, I have been asked to test the unit. I will be picking one up today. I plan on writing up a review, which I'll post here for you guys to see. (In case any other Cox "lovers" visit this thread).

I most definately agree. The HD receiver's guide is extremely sluggish and unresponsive. I also don't like the way it does a horrible job of decompressing non-HD digital channels; they look worse than the analog stations.

For those with HD DirecTivos...

I've been reading all of the fuss with the HDMI connection. My TV just has DVI and not HDMI. Are there issues with DVI connections or just HDMI?

My wife mentioned the HDTivo this morning, so I'm doing a bit more research. :)

The HDMI is also the DVI port though, which is what I'm worried about. It comes with a HDMI to DVI cable also.

Dave, I haven't used the HDMI port so I'm no help in that regard, but I have read about all the problems. I believe a lot of the problems were with the early units. Hopefully, things have improved with the newer ones.

Dave, us early adopters have to settle (for now) with component video, so I can't say if my HD-Tivo's HDMI even works. Maybe our local BB and CC will have them soon, and if it doesn't work on the one you get, you can take it back until you get one that does. :D

I caught a little of the Falcons/Giants game. It did look awesome. Looks like KRIV is still coming in strong so hopefully Arrested Development will record tonight. I also noticed that KWTX (KBTX's sister station) was carrying the CBS HD game this afternoon (Dolphins/Seahawks) while KBTX was showing the Chargers/Raiders (SD). Thought that was kind of strange.

I noticed "Cold Case" too, and called master control at KBTX. They told me that since the game ran late, it was not in HD tonight. Not sure why that would matter, but KHOU in Houston is SD also.

I think it is interesting that the Texans/Packers game is in HD on ESPN-HD, while on KTRK in Houston (13-1) it is only SD. Come to think of it, it's interesting the game is on both at all! ;)

I have been hearing strong rumors that the new channels going up in march will have distant feeds for all channels (ABC/CBS/NBC/FOX/PBS/WB/UPN)

I know that we dont have a chance on CBS and PBS but what about the others? Also what about WB/UPN since those arent on the satellite in HD but what about the SD versions (im assuming we will qualify simply because there arent any stations we can receive)

I've been watching the ESPN-HD schedule for some time hoping for the Holiday Bowl - just the Las Vegas Bowl so far. I did notice that they have an HD presentation of the Junction Boys scheduled for the Jan 6th.

isnt the chance of the holiday bowl in HD almost impossible? I would have though if ESPN was planning on broadcasting it they would have added it to the "online" schedule of HD programs by now.

Well I picked up my HD-DVR from Cox this morning. Although the CSR said I was the first one for her to handle, it was fairly painless (took about 7 minutes). Anyway, it responds ALOT better than my dad's scientific atlanta that he has through Time Warner. I noticed it also responds faster than my regular HD box. The menus are much more attractive than normal cox menus. Anyway, props to Cox for delivering a nice HD DVR to a small market area like BCS. After all, Corpus Christi has a population of about 300,000 with time warner and they just got theirs last month. Ishman is supposed to post a good review later with pics, so I won't go too much into detail.

Congrats on the score, Munky!!:) I think you will love it.
On another topic, D* had the Hornets/Lakers game on channel 90 last night in HD, and I think there will be another game tonight and Wed. night.

I have to agree with Munky, I've really been enjoying it. I wrote a full review of the box, but need to complete it with some screenshots. Hopefully, I'll get it posted here soon.. there is just this little thing about being lazy.

If you are just now applying for waivers, you won't get any at all. Now that locals are up (except for ABC), none of the stations are granting them. There might be rare exceptions to this, but I have now heard from two separate D* newbies that the traditional NBC and ABC waivers that were being granted no longer are. (CBS, PBS and Fox never were)

Jag, are you talking about distant feeds going up on V*? Perhaps NBC and ABC would still grant waivers for V* users since they have no locals up on their sat for the area. But in that case, I think ABC might still say no.

yes as part of the 70 channels in march.... rumored to be CBS/ABC/NBC/FOX/UPN/WB

plus the fox sports nets (they have to get to 70 somehow ;) )

I would think I would qualify for UPN/WB automatically, but i guess well have to wait and see.

Hey Munky, need some help concerning CC. I got my exchange # to take down to the local store. Are they going to try to give me a set of "equal" value or will they just give a credit to do whatever I want with. There is no set like the one I had. There are no 38" widescreen CRTs, only a few sets will have a built-in HD tuner (none will have a built-in D* tuner), and other technologies besides RPTV (wife won't let that happen) of that size will be more than my credit is worth. Will they give me a smaller lesser value set and a gift card? Just wondering what to expect. Thanks.

More than likely they will replace it with a gift card, since the f38310 cannot be matched with specs from another set. The gift card amount should be what you originally paid for the set. You can get the best for what you paid, but you'll be on your own for D* tuner. Hope that helps....

Several additional HD channels will be coming including Ultimate (or something like that) that is similar to INHD, and several more movie channels.

Cox is trying to work with ABC to bring ABCHD to the area, but ABC wants Cox to also pick up Telemundo and some worthless weather channel that we don't want. Talks are ongoing and hopefully will be resolved early next year.

FOXHD is another story. There is no timeline for it. There are multiple issues and it may be some time (a year?) before they are resolved.

DirecTiVos don't exactly start up quickly, and I would miss 5 minutes of a program. It hasn't happened again in the last two weeks so maybe the demon has been exorcised (chickens on standby).

It's awesome to say the least. I'm sorry that I still haven't posted the review. I had to go out of town quite suddenly this weekend, but will hopefully get it to you guys tonight.

I have owned both a Tivo Series 2 and ReplayTV 5400, and have to say that this Cox DVR puts both of them in the dust. Plus, it's VERY cheap (I think it's only $5 a month with no upfront costs or contracts).

You guys can talk trash about Cox all you want (they still aren't perfect), but with the quality of the Cox DVR, I'm starting to change my initial frown into a smile. They did an oustanding job on purchasing a good, solid DVR box from Motorola.

Glad you are enjoying your DVR, Ishman, sounds pretty cool. Took them long enough, though.
Jag, looks like you and I will have to do Tag-Team on calling KBTX to flip switches!! ;) I had been watching pre-game, and when game time came around all they were showing was color bars from NY. :mad: I started watching something else and came back a few minutes ago, and the bars were still there. So I called and while I was on hold the game showed up, not in HD but at least it was programming. While I am typing this, looks like they finally switched to the HD feed just in time for half-time.

btw ishman if you care vooms dvr will be a motorola box as well (supposed to be $10 a month for it... the new promotion is for each regular receiver to add 5/month). Then again its going to have quite a few more featues then the cox dvr so i guess well see how it works out, but i am looking forward to seeing it at ces in action.

Should be interesting to see if all the speculation is right on the cotton bowl and the aggies... if its true i might have to make a trip up to dallas.

Me Pops is going to get them through the 12th Man I believe. This is the way we've done it for the last three bowl games. I've heard you can easily get better tickets through Ticketmaster or of course scalpers.

Heat related? Interesting. I had mine do that for the first and only time Sunday night in the middle of HBO's Peter Sellers movie. I thought it was very strange at the time until I read your earlier post.

I have ventilation holes in the back of my wall unit to help get the hot air out. I think I've seen some aftermarket cooling fans for the HD-Tivo. Maybe that'll help some.

It's not in an enclosed area, but it was above the AVR that runs the speakers and video switching for the rest of the house. On Sundays, all the gear tends to stay on all day, and I felt this old Sony AVR - and it was freaking hot. Way hotter than the AVR that runs the living room. When I checked the temp of the HD-TiVo it was running 53 degrees Celsius while the SD-TiVo was running a cool 39 degrees Celsius. Both of the units have two drives in them, but the SD-TiVo is at the bottom of the rack. I'll be moving the HD-TiVo down there as well (where it used to be). For the meantime, I just cut the receiver off for the rest of the house. My wife will have to live without Christmas music until I can rearrange the rack.

Ok, I hadn't been to tivocommunities in a while, but it looks like my HD-TiVo's problems are now common to early units - stuttering video, unresponsive to remote, rebooting itself. Sounds like it stems from the e software update/failing drive/heat. I'm not really sure. Looks like I'll be calling D* for a replacement. Once again, I will lose some cool stuff - Olympics opening ceremony, A&M vs Utah, A&M tailgating special, and a bunch of movies. :(

If you had a voom "vaporware" pvr this wouldnt be a problem ;)

Back to the waiver issue. A friend of mine on the same street as I am recently applied for dns with D*. To his and my surprise, he was granted NBC, but no ABC. Kind of funny since the guy two houses down was recently granted ABC and no NBC. Both have B/CS locals.

And for the HD-TiVo, last night I tried the clear/delete temporary fix. Supposedly, this erases everything, scans the drives, and doesn't write to bad sectors in the future. The screen says it should take an hour, but it was still going this morning. :(

The waiver thing is screwy. Keep in mind that if the stations don't reply by a certain time, they are assumed to have granted the waiver. (One good reason to continually request them - sooner or later they are bound to screw up.)

Seems with the new plan we will get distant network access to any channel added by cox. So waviers to CBS/NBC/PBS will be granted and hopefully soon ABC. Nice to know for when voom starts locals in HD. I hope this doesnt apply to WB/UPN though (we might be waiting a while on those)

I guess I'm confused, that is not how I read things. I read it as IF Cox carries an out-of-market signal we can request a waiver. However, I don't believe our Cox does that. We get a "local" PBS (KAMU), ABC (KRHD), NBC (KMAY), CBS (KBTX) and Fox (KYLE). Wouldn't we only get to apply for waivers if they offered signals that originated from outside our market? (i.e. they offered us the Houston station - which they do part-time for ABC (KTRK-Houston) currently on channel 3)

Perhaps I'm being too pessimistic? I don't think so though...

So what about digital stations? Right now Cox carries digital NBC (KCEN-DT) and hopefully will carry digital ABC (KXXV-DT) and Fox (KWKT-DT) soon. Are all of those considered to be out of market?

I really couldnt understand what the damn thing was saying (just reposting what others thought it said)... damn laws should be made to be easily understood because im sure there will be all kinds of lawyers for the stations finding some loophole in it.
