Eastern that is true, we have given them hell, but still they are not on the air. LOL http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/images/smilies/frown.gif
Can't wait to check out the CW web-site! Will there be sports broadcasts on CW, or just sitcoms and movies?

Not sure about sports on CW; I don't know of any franchises or anything. I'll ask and see what I can find out.
Btw, since we are a 100+ market, we are taking the CW+ feed which is 4:3 aspect ratio. Whether or not that can be converted to a 16:9 format, I'm not sure. I will mention it to Bertie and see whether a 16:9 is possible though through the encoder, etc.
jamieh1 09-15-06, 10:44 PM Everyone check out the "Just ask Mike" blog at WITNTV.COM
We got mentioned, so WITN is listening!
Mike if you're checking us out, THANKS! We want to be the place for Eastern NC to come to chat about anything related to the new age of digital tv.
Glad to see WITN DT3
Theres a video link on the blog for the video of this weeks spot.
jamieh1 09-15-06, 10:58 PM Looks like 7.3 is off the air, I get the channel ID (Test) but no signal on that channel. I think however the ID is saved on my Directv HD TiVo until I clear it. So thats probally why I still see it.
Let me be the first to report that CW is up and running on WNCT-DT 9.2 and looks good. Sure hope it's widescreen tonite. ;)
jamieh1 09-18-06, 07:52 AM I waited up till midnight to see the debut, but I then see The CW will launch at 6am on this channel 9.2.
I thought that Vipir was moving to 9.3, I didnt think that this was going to happen, not a first anyway because theres been no testing that Ive seen.
Maybe theyll add it back later this year.
Well as of now WCTI 12.3 is still on directv, labled as IND.
WNCTDT CW is not, but the CW from Baltimore is on the locals package.
I wonder how long before the Baltimore feed is pulled.
jamieh1 09-18-06, 07:56 AM Also ENCTV has its new logo bug up on the screen.
Almost the same as the WGN logo with the S, but the ENCTV logo is a S backwards with ENCTV over top of it.
The CW looks great, and sounds much better than 9.1.... Maybe Vipir will show up later today?
Wayne Estabrook 09-18-06, 09:08 AM Even though most were watching football, this is to let you know about audio problems this weekend on UNC-HD. On Saturday we experienced a loss of audio with hiss and static during the 8 PM show due to equipment failure. On Sunday night during the Nature show, the 5.1 audio feed from PBS has the channel 1&2 audio interchanged with the surround channel 3&4 audio so surround appeared only on stereo TV with no dialog. We regret these technical problems. It was fine if you could read lips.
jamieh1 09-18-06, 09:26 AM C.Stevens from WCTI/ENCTV says it appears that ENCTV will stay on Directv. But cable systems may drop them, I know here in Washington SuddenLink dropped ENCTV and put CSPAN2 on in its place.
CHECK OUT THE "Just ask Mike" link on www.witntv.com
site from this past Friday, he talks about us here at AVS on the segment.
jamieh1 09-18-06, 02:05 PM V. Jones from WNCT said that they will get Vipir back up on 9.3 but it may be Mid November before its back. They are waiting on some new equipment.
As far as The CW coming to the Directv local line up, they are working on a retransmission agreement.
jamieh1 09-18-06, 02:35 PM I was just looking around the WCTI HD page on the there web site. That has a link to this thread on there. WOW! WITN gave us a nod on tv and now WCTI also.
WNCT we are waiting on you now.
The link on WCTI12.com has been there for a long time. Once on WNCT news at 6 PM they were demonstrating what to do with old computers and gave props to this site and encdtv.
I can't remember if they said avs forum for sure, but they showed the screens of the computers and you could tell what sites they were on.

Is this a subtle hint? *LOL* :D
jamieh1 09-18-06, 04:08 PM No, but go ahead and throw it on the website.
jamieh1 09-18-06, 04:26 PM the cwenc.com is up but seems like it is still not totally complete.
Eastern your site isn't finished yet? I find mostly blank links. Not a complaint by any means, just making sure it's not my computer! LOL
easternncnewswat 09-18-06, 07:40 PM No, it's ok. There were some technical issues on The CW's side. Didn't get to work on it till late afternoon today. I'll work on it tonight and should have it done by tomorrow afternoon at the latest.
I cannot view Mynetwork TV DT because of interference from WCIV DT Charleston. Both WPXU and WCIV broadcast on channel 34..... :( WCIV is really strong. This is the first time I have
ever gotten them. All other Charleston channels are working tonight!
2,3,4,5,6,7,9, almost every channel on the dial!
Jeopardy is not in HD in Charleston either. :D
Mafflerbach 09-19-06, 02:33 PM After scanning some posts of the last 4 or 5 months, I was wondering what the status of the FOX affiliates here are in the HD world?
I'm in New Bern and able to get most of everything I need without getting FOX OTA. My expectation was to take it off 24 WYDO and get a directional VHF / UHF to send in a Northwesterly direction and get everything I need off the towers in Ayden and Greenville.
Has there been any real story given by the Fox people about their going HD?
Can one get the Morehead in HD now?
Sorry to bring up some old painful questions, but the latest info on the FOX affiliate debacles was about 2 months ago on this board.
Please, enlighten me.....
Thanks
Nobody knows what the real story is with either WYDO or WFXI. All we know is they have stated financial difficulties on their request for an extention to the FCC. All the details were filed confidentially. They did have a signal on the air for WYDO that was just like a dummy load, (no audio or video) a few months back, but since then nothing.
I am fortunate down here in Jacksonville that we can get WSFX FOX 26 from Wilmington, 30 dt easily OTA. Unfortunatly most of this market is suffering without a FOX HD because of 8/14, and that has held up the local transition from cable to "going back" to the antenna days.
I cannot view Mynetwork TV DT because of interference from WCIV DT Charleston.
Trust me, you haven't missed a thing.....
soso321 09-19-06, 07:24 PM WTVD in Raleigh has Jeopardy in HD
and Wheel of Fortune. Sorry if someone already posted.
jamieh1 09-20-06, 02:38 PM Anayone that is in the WFXI viewing area that is getting a signal, are you getting HD from them?
I emailed Don Fisher about the continued promises of a digital signal coming soon, and how for the last 2 years we have been told that the DT signal would be available. I asked him again for a waiver for HD from Directv. He replied, " Our policy has not changed. We are broadcasting in HD from WFXI serving Morehead, New Bern, and Jacksonville. HD for WYDO will come shortly."
jamieh1 09-20-06, 02:40 PM Those of you with Directv HD recievers that get The CW over the air from WNCT 9.2, I contacted Tribune (zap2it) about adding The CW channel listings and removing the Local Radar list from the guide data. Well as of today the correct listings are now up.
Mafflerbach 09-20-06, 03:56 PM Thanks for the info jspENC and jamielee-
That was going to be my next questions..... would they give me a waiver for Dish Network. Kinda pathetic that they are unable and or unwilling to get it done. The least they could do is give us a waiver.
Well, I'm going to set it up to hit the YDO tower and I'll let the board know as soon as something comes up.
Too bad Fox still has football. Oh well, I guess we can guarantee that YDO will be digital by the time that Fox has the Superbowl in 2008.
They are on the air for WFXI?? Let me go outside and turn my antennas and see!
OK, thats crap. If they are on the air I can't get them.
easternncnewswat 09-20-06, 05:01 PM Oh well, I guess we can guarantee that YDO will be digital by the time that Fox has the Superbowl in 2008.

Do you know if WNCT-CW is planning on some local content?
Right now it just seems to be a feed from the main CW network.
Dont count the infomercials from the local car dealers. Im getting sick of seeing them, 7, 9, 12 are showing these, you know the ones where the 2 guys are standing in front of the dealers and the car pulls up in and they talk about it.

I'm also sick of it. I get these on 3,7,9, 9.2, 12, 12.3, 26.1, and 35.1 Although the blonde girl
that does the ones on 3 & 26 I never get tired of seeing! :D Whoever put her on that ad knew what they were doing.
easternncnewswat 09-21-06, 11:21 AM Sorry guys, I'm not privy to programming. I hate those ads too... I don't know who watches them, but somebody must since they're on every channel you turn to. *LOL*

Can you get directv to change there channel ID for your channel ENCTV from IND to
something different, they have it labled as independant.
Maybe they could us ECTV, or ENCT

Can anyone in New Bern or Morehead pick up an HD picture?
On channel 35.1 they now have it labled "ion"
35.2 is now "qubo" just a screen saver that says coming in early 2007. www.qubo.com
What is qubo?!

Qubo is children's/educational programming. It's already seen on NBC/Telemundo. I'm guessing NBC will be dropping the carriage and Ion will pick it up full time...
avs0208 09-25-06, 11:48 AM I find it funny that ESPN2 HD carried ECU's game on Saturday and our own local cable company (Suddenlink) does not even offer ESPN2 in HD. ESPN had large posters spread around the stadium advertising ESPN2 HD. Suddenlink needs to get on board. Pathetic...........
jamieh1 09-25-06, 03:32 PM Yea it looked good on Directv Hd.
I don't hear good things about Suddenlink from anyone. I know people aren't too happy with TimeWarners right now either. They removed ENCTV and the WB feed and replaced those channels with nothing other than static. Pathetic way to show customer appreciation. Check out WCTI12.com
They are bashing them as well, and they should.
jamieh1 09-26-06, 10:21 PM Yea Suddenlink replaced ENCTV with C-Span2
jamieh1 09-26-06, 10:22 PM Thats why I have DIRECTV, CABLE SUCKS, only have suddenlink for High speed internet.
easternncnewswat 09-26-06, 11:46 PM Thats why I have DIRECTV, CABLE SUCKS, only have suddenlink for High speed internet.
jamielee, you just answered a question i've been wondering for a while. i wasn't sure if you could have satellite and cable service. i've been thinking about getting suddenlink for high speed internet cause i'm on dial-up and have been forever. dsl is not available where i live in gville.
anyway, how much does suddenlink's high speed run and is it pretty decent?
Ken12,
What time does Family Feud come on? I can't seem to find it.
Family Feud is on from 5 to 5:30
Ken
shogun77 09-28-06, 09:57 AM Well, after checking every day since WFXI started showing a "WFXI now in HD" bumper, TWC finally has it in their lineup. Can't wait for Prison Break this Monday. :)
jamieh1 09-28-06, 12:12 PM Is it in HD or just Digital sd?
Do you see black bars on the sides now or is the screen full screen?
jamieh1 09-28-06, 01:05 PM I emailed V Jones and WNCT about The CW getting added to Directv. I ask about a week or 2 ago and and a little before it went live.
Well thought Id ask again because I was told they were working on it.
Well I got back what I feel is a short and kinda agrivated response.
" No, Jamie, We are working on it."
Well I will not bother WNCT anymore. Atleast the folks at WITN are helpful and dont seem to mind questions or suggestions.
WNCT half the time will not even answer you emails.
Is WFXI broadcasting OTA or just on cable? Can anyone pick it up with an antenne? I guess it's time to get a rotor if I'm going to watch them. Why I want to bother I don't know since I can get another FOX so well as is...

damn, Now I don't feel bad about not getting a response. It looks like they would think more of the viewers in ENC than that...
Maybe they are getting complaints about both cable and Direct and are at their witts
end?

No, there just isn't an answer to give. Negotiations with cable and satellite companies are usually very protracted and lengthy. And they don't always go favorably for the station. One only has to look at what's happened to ENC-TV as an example of how cable and satellite will jerk around stations as well as the viewers.
Good point eastern. When you say it like that it makes sense.
Gotta message saying they are upgrading to software version 6.3 and that you'll need to be connected by phone. Tried to make a "daily" call today but no update happened...
jamieh1 09-29-06, 04:01 PM Yea I got the message also.
I just got upgraded to the Directv+ HDDVR HR20-700. I still have my HR10 active until they activate the ota tuners.
The version on the update is 6.3a, the original 6.3 had issues that wouldnt allow the 72.5 or 95 sats to be seen.
{BOHICA}Sparky 10-02-06, 12:07 PM Just got Dish Network and ditched TimeWarner...extremely happy with the setup, but was dismayed that none of the locals are in HD, which they were over TimeWarner.
Am I missing something, or are the locals on satellite not HD yet? Anyone know when they will be?
easternncnewswat 10-02-06, 12:53 PM I just noticed that I've got locals on Dish Network; pq is not that great compared to OTA digital or E/W O&O's but good nonetheless. Kinda stoked to have locals on Dish!
Eastern, did you get the 'Superdish' or is it just a round one?
Sparky you might want to check with Ken12, the dishnetwork VHF/UHF antennas are located on the WCTI studio grounds, and I would imagine they would be adding equipment to pick up HDTV once they are ready.
{BOHICA}Sparky 10-02-06, 01:42 PM :)
Ken, please fill me in.
jsp - if the VHF UHF gear is at the grounds of one studio, will that carry all the locals for other stations or just the one? If so, you're telling me I don't need to worry about the expense and time/labor of an OTA antenna and cable run?
All the antennas are located at WCTI for DISH. They handle channels 7,8,9,12,19, and ENC 48 dt and maybe MNTV channel 35?
Directv's antennas are at the WNCT studio. Again, all channels are picked up at the one location.

No, that's what surprised me. I guess the locals are all on one "bird" now; either 119 or 110 for Dish. Dish offers 7, 8, 9, 12, 19, and 48DT.
Ironic, I can finally get Fox 8/14... *LOL* I saw their Fox 8/14 HD bumper on Dish last night mentioning that they are on Time Warner Cable.
I'm not sure of Dish Networks plans for HD I'm sure it will be coming. I have heard DirecTV will have our HD locals up by the end of 2007 I'm hoping for sooner.
Ken
Rupert Murdoch made a statement not too long ago that there would be 100 HD channels by
the end of this year carried on D*. (directv) I'm thinking this is referring to LIL, but then again,
some people say to think outside the box on that, so maybe FOXNEWS channel among others
will be HD... who knows! ;)
Has anyone read Ruperts blog? WOW!

According to antenna web, I'm 28.9 miles from WCTI (Red - UHF) at 342 degrees.
Would a set top antenna such as Audiovox® Terk® HDTVi UHF/VHF HDTV Indoor Antenna for $39.00 work? Or the SS-2000 (Square Shooter)
I'd rather not have to do an aerial and another cable run, etc due to HOA and moving in 6-9 months.
jamieh1 10-03-06, 09:42 AM anyone in WFXI FOX 8 area confirm that HD is being broadcast or just a SD feed?

MitsuHelp 10-03-06, 11:58 AM jamlee....I live in Morehead and WFXI FOX 8 is broadcasting in HD but the shows appear in SD....will look again tonight. I have not had much time in the last few days but it seems that when I first looked at FOX I had to go through my TV settings thinking I had jacked something....I was seeing the tops of heads being cut off and the bottom of the screen was cut off as well! My settings were fine and all of the other channels were OK. That was a couple of days ago....will report more on Wednesday
IS WFXI-DT broadcasting at 1 million watts or not? Anyone know?

Foxeng in the Greensboro thread recommended this indoor model, it is a bowtie
type. I'm not sure if they still have them in stores around here, but you could call
and ask. Only thing is you would still need a set of dipoles (rabbit ears) for WNCT.

MitsuHelp 10-03-06, 01:09 PM that bowtie is discontinued....but they may still have it in stock....not in Morehead. I just got the 40" 17 element (15-2160) to try out but have not had a chance yet. OTA in Morehead s*^ks!

I saw that right before I disconnected TW. Seemed like all they did was blow up the 4:3 to a 16:9. Picture still looked SD. Unfortunately, their 'zoomed' in look did cut of the top and bottom.
I checked the Radio Shack in havelock and they have absolutely nothing in stock. I'll swing by walmart this afternoon and see what they have.
jamieh1 10-05-06, 09:18 AM I checked the radio shack site and entered the zip code and says no stores around have the antenna above.
jamieh1 10-05-06, 09:23 AM ENC-TV
So now that the NEW ENC TV has been out for a few weeks how would you rate it?
I think after watching it that its not bad.
I would love to see some more sit coms added. But I know the channel is new and will continue to grow.
Kinda funny that ENCTV is independant and is on Directv and WNCT The CW is not.
i just wish that Directv would change the Ch ID from IND over to ENC or better ID it.
We are trying to get DirecTV to change the name. There will be more changes on ENCTV programing I"m sure. We have been talking about more news (live) more sports and even some local sports. We are still trying to get better positioning on the local cable systems.

MitsuHelp 10-05-06, 12:47 PM Got some time last night to throw my new RS 15-2160 into the attic (sitting on a box) and I get all my regular UHF statations plus ENC-tv and WWAYHD & WX from Wilmington (which according to antennaweb is over 88 miles!). Can't wait to play with it more. I got the only one from the Morehead store but you can buy it on line and they will ship it to the store.
Now....if just WNCT-DT would go UHF, I would be in good shape! Anyone know if they are changing their freq?
Also did check WFXI and I agree with Sparky..they are expanding SD to fool people into thinking their shows are HD since there are no bars.....geee would rather have bars instead of half-a-head! Now I'm worried about what the Panthers are going to look like!
I like some of the shows, although I kind of wish that Family feud was on at a different time.
I don't watch the Springer show. Hardly ever watch Maury.
I still watch the 10 PM news a lot of times.
I don't think I will ever disconnect my antenna. I never thought that I would actually prefer that method of delivery over cable or dish for locals, but I don't see how reception could be any better or simpler than it is the way I have it now.
Last night and this morning I was getting Richmond channels and Charleston! I probably won't be watching OTA as much this week since Hockey is being shown all week for free on D*

I used the Radio shack antenna for a while that your using. It is very directional and
powerful too! WWAY is on a 2000' mast at 1 million watts, so it is capable of reaching that far at night.
WNCT will stay at channel 10, which actually with a VHF antenna carries about 80 miles. WCTI will go to 12 in a few years, and if WFXI ever makes a move will end up on channel 8 again. Channel 7 was denied their request to go back to 7.
WFXI = no comment :D

I'll trade you WNCT for your Fox 43! I would really like to get the Redskins all of the time without paying D*tv big bucks.

So are you saying that most of these stations are moving back to VHF? I sure hope that they will be increasing their power! WNCT is by far the weakest station (CW also) as far as DT in my area. According to what FCC says they are only pushing 35kw whereas their SD Channel 9 is running 316kw. I guess if they all go back to their regular SD power....ie WCTI 316kw DS vs 161kw DT....things will be Oh-tay!
Any word on increases would be good because at one time I was told that WNCT DT at 35kw was as powerful as they were going to be!.....what a difference 35 vs 316 (DT to SD)!
35 kw is all WNCT will probably be. VHF digital takes a lot less power to cover the same area that VHF analog covers and a whole lot less power to cover the same area that UHF would take to reach the same distance.
Some VHF channels may put out more, 45kw or so, but that's about it.
Comparing analog and digital transmission power is like comparing apples and oranges. The analog power is measured at the peak of the video carrier, but the average power across the 6 Mhz channel bandwidth is significantly less. Digital transmission is relatively flat across the 6 Mhz.
I have no problem picking up WNCT-DT 77 miles away over 99% of the time.
Brandonw27858 10-07-06, 03:18 PM If I want to put an antenna in my attic is there anything special I should use for the mast, or will any 1'' pipe do? I already bought the extra attic mount kit I needed. I was unaware that the antenna would be without a mast, but after thinking about it, it made more sense to not come with one.

I was unaware that the antenna would be without a mast, but after thinking about it, it made more sense to not come with one.Pipe is fine...
The test channel on 7.3 is back up. It has a lot of blurriness to it. I wonder what they might be planning?
I wish we had a full screen radar to view again somewhere.... It would be nice on one of the
two weather channels I get if they would fix it when the radar comes up that those sidebars would go off so you can see better...

beanpod 10-11-06, 12:26 AM I miss the WNCT live Viper on 9.2. Live radar and loops inform me more than the Wx transmissions with infomercials and static shots of a waterfront boardwalk plus having to wait for a small screen live radar shot.
I do miss Vipir 9. However I am enjoying the CW too. Check out the web-site that Eastern worked on for ENC's CW. He's got all the shows in a graph now. Looks good.
Seems the CW is now on all cable companies analog spectrums except Time Warners, and Directv/Dishnetwork. Hopefully those people will get it soon.
beanpod 10-12-06, 12:16 AM Yeah...I fine with CW. Only E* at home and the kids are glad to have Smackdown (or whichever wrestling event) that's on CW. Thanks for the CW site tip. I'll take a look.

CW IS ON TW in Newport/Morehead for more than a week at least! I was suprised how fast they got it one....about from day one!
I can be silent no more. The WITN 7.1 HD channel looks like crap when there are standard def
programs on. The analog feed looks more vibrant. On digital the color looks washed out.
WECT - DT looks like gold and is like comparing an apple to an orange.
easternncnewswat 10-13-06, 09:10 PM I've noticed a lot of macroblocking on their HD shows. It's especially noticeable with real fast, tight zoom ins and outs like during The Office last night. Deal or No Deal, a SD show anyway, looked especially bad on HD 7.1. They need a much better encoder. This is what was happening before NCN got the new encoder earlier this year.
Yep, I just think they are giving too much bandwidth to the 24/7 Wx channel. I could care less if I see a little pixelation on 7.2-- 7.1 needs to take priority.
beanpod 10-14-06, 12:35 AM Since on the topic of WITN 7.1, I'd add an observation from last Sunday. This observation was made due to running audio through my AVR during HD programming (NASCAR race to be specific). WITN reception is flawless, and most of the time so is WNCN 17.1. However, due to windy conditions (I believe) reception got a bit pixulated on WNCN so I was switching from WNCN to WITN for stable video. Observation made was audio feed from WNCN 17.1 identified as Dolby Digital on the AVR in contrast to WITN, which was not and the AVR switched to Logic 7 for surround. Question...Does WITN 7.1 lack the capability to transmit a true Dolby Digital audio feed or was this an isolated case??? I don't typically run TV audio through the AVR.
WITN does not carry Dolby digital. They need additional equipment.
On another note: I can't understand why this worked, but I got my drop-outs to stop on WITN
by simply running a new coax line under the house from my grounding block to the TV. Not only did this solve WITN reception, but also helped on MynetworkTV. At night I would loose them, but not anymore.
Just out of curiosity I checked analog, and WRAL in the afternoon looked a lot less noisy.
So I am satisfied with this enough that I'm not going to buy a new antenna just yet.

You might have had a bad connector on that cable or a bad spot on it that was causing attenuation. Just bending it too much will damage the dielectric and change the impedance of the cable and cause a loss of signal, particularly on UHF.
I think your probably right about a bad spot somewhere in the line. The connectors were in good shape, so that is the only thing I could think of was the cable had either been crushed or
bent too sharply somehow. Anyway the reception is much better on channel 32 and 34. For some reason those were the only ones affected.
Brandonw27858 10-15-06, 11:19 PM Ok I FINALLY put the antenna up in the attic. After some moving it around and around I was finally able to pick up Fox HD on 50.1 . When I was in the attic with the antenna my girlfriend said the signal strength for the channel was as high as and maintained very close to 46. Now that I am back downstairs, I havent seen the signal go above 38 while usuay hanging around 36. Is this gonna be a problem? The pic and sound both seem to be fine even with the low strength. I did just notice something while typing this though. I am watching the NLCS and they were doing a montage of the teams and then faded to white. I saw what I can only describe as what looked like panels running up and down the screen when the screen was all white. Almost like looking at a white painted fence with no spaces in between the planks. I havent seen it since on white or any other color. Any idea? Sorry for the long post. OK now I am also finding that I am picking up no other channels than 50.1-50.3, 9.1-9.2 . I have the antenna pointed to the west, but I dont understand why I am unable to pick up stations that are so close to me. I have the Radio Shack U-75R model in the attic of my condo.
Trial and error in different locations of the attic until you find that sweet spot is all I know to recommend. Double check your connections at the antenna and switch the terminal leads at the antenna and make sure they are tight. Try aiming to the horizon and aiming horizontal. Sometimes this helps. Usually where you think the ideal place for the antenna would be is not where it can get the most signal.
Try entering the channels in the receiver manually. Here's a list of some popular channels your way...
WNCT-10
WUNK-23
MyRDC-27
WITN-32
WCTI-48
WRAZ-49
WTVD- 52

Usually where you think the ideal place for the antenna would be is not where it can get the most signal.Good advice! I did it with great results. Is the antenna having to shoot thru brick? If so, try moving it to where it shoots thru plywood. My attic antenna is right above my FROG. Before it was shooting thru brick. I moved it to where it shoots thru the slanting roof. Much better results!!!
Can you tell I've dabbled in my share of antenna adjusting! :p I should work at a TV station! :D You almost have to be an engineer to get these things right.
Brandonw27858 10-17-06, 01:50 AM I am not shooting through brick, just the roof. I kind of have the antenna wedged onto the A-frame, so that could have something to do with it. I am only trying to pick up the digital/HD channels. As far as I can tell it is pointed at the horizon and I have it positioned like this ---< , I guess that would be considered vertical? I will try some tinkering later this week I guess, I really only bought the antenna to pick up Fox HD and the CW HD, which it is, but I would like to be prepared incase the cable went out.
Ken12,
Any news on ENC-TV getting moved to a better position on cable?
No word yet I know we are in negoations with them I think it will happen just not sure when. Still trying to get DirecTV to relabel our channel on them too. I understand we are going to have quite a few ACC games on ENC this year that will put a little more pressure on cable
Ken
Good work Ken! The more basketball the better. I wouldn't mind seeing some hockey on local TV. Maybe as the sport continues to grow it will be delivered locally more often. WFXI used to air Hockey back in the early and mid 90's I think.
jamieh1 10-20-06, 12:31 PM Anyword Ken from Directv about getting the ID relabled to ENC instead of IND?
It looks like the stations would have more input on the channel info on directv.
Looks like you could have direct connect with them and could have the id changed.

Ken
Is JP/Raycom Sports going to shaft the NC market with SD broadcast of ACC games again this year??? Anybody heard?
Thought I would let everyone know that DirecTV has decided to drop ENCTV from their lineup. I am told it is against their policy to carry independents. We are trying to get it back. If you miss it call DirecTV and let them know how you feel.
Ken
Is JP/Raycom Sports going to shaft the NC market with SD broadcast of ACC games again this year??? Anybody heard?
The only HD I'm capable of airing right now is from ABC. So even if Raycom offered the games in HD I would not be able to pass it on. Don't see that changing this year. When more content is available in HD I'm sure we will invest in the equipment.
Ken

Ken
Thats bull! If you were to go thru all there markets, there are many markets where directv carries independent channels.
jamieh1 10-25-06, 04:56 PM I guess we should of not worried about the channel ID huh!
I emailed Directv and told them this was a big loss for this market because of the ACC sports.
I thought Directv had to give a 30 day notice of programming changes?
They dont even have a message up saying the channel is no longer being carried.
jamieh1 10-25-06, 05:00 PM Ken the UPN loss must really have caused alot of lost revenue, Most of the cable systems moving up to digital tiers with less subs and now Directv dropping the channel. Any word on Dishnetwork???
Atleast in a couple of years it will be available to all once the digital transition happens.
All I can say is they are working to try and get things back to the way they were wether they will be sucessful or who knows. I bet it gets worse before it gets better. Im afraid to ask about dish. I found out about DirecTV this morning when we were no longer there. for me I can watch them off air with my HD Tivo.

KenThat's interesting... DirecTV carries an Independent here in Hampton Roads (SE VA)... WSKY/4 with 2 PBS', CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX, MNT, CW, i... All these stations are on full power signals, no multicasting of networks around here...

Can't believe that you didnt get a notice!
What about a contract?
What the? That stinks. Directv is getting as bad as Time Warner. Right now they both are leaving a bad taste in my mouth. Directv's picture quality sucks anymore because of all the junk like GOD TV and Value channels full of shopping. Much more of this and I am going to DISH. I am paying way more now than I did when I first signed up in 99.
Anyone have any information on Embarq? Aren't they supposed to carry video over the phone line starting next year?
Mafflerbach 10-26-06, 09:15 AM I thought I'd post this as I had asked the question most recently. It is an email from Fox8Fox14 about the status of the HDTV OTA:
WFXI HD out of Morehead is now operating on low power over the air and
through Time Warner Cable. We are in the process of building out the full
power digital signal for WFXI. We have just finished building a new tower
to house the digital equipment and should have this project complete around
the middle of 1st quarter 2007.
We are also working on the WYDO digital and HD signals. We will have a
standard digital signal up over the air for WYDO in the next couple of
weeks. We then have to replace our analog microwave path from the studio in
Morehead to our tower in Ayden in order to be able to deliver the HD signal.
This project is also projected to be completed around mid 1st quarter 2007.
Thank you for your patience and thank you for watching FOX8/14. Feel free
to contact me directly for updates or with additional questions. Best,
Don Fisher
Vice President, General Manager
WFXI FOX8/14
Built a whole new tower! WOW! I wonder where it is located? This is the most positive news we have heard yet.
I figured they had microwave problems. I just hope the dates will remain early 2007 and not end up late 2007.
beanpod 10-26-06, 10:33 PM Local FOX digital transmission...that is encourging. The FOX8 tower (built in late '80's) is located on Open Grounds Farm in eastern Carteret County. Maybe located on same leased tract but don't know for sure. Regardless, time will tell.
jamieh1 10-28-06, 10:35 PM WNCT The CW is now on Directv channel 15, it took the place of the Baltimore CW.
There is alot of freezing and break up, the same as when WCTI UPN came on.
ENC any insight as to whats going on, can you pass along the problems to Bertie so he can get it fixed with Directv.
My WNCT 9.1 and 9.2 have been freezing terribly lately. I wonder if they are having a problem with the digital equip? WITN isn't any better.
All the other stations are perfect here, both in market and out.
jamieh1 10-29-06, 10:46 AM My WNCT 9.1 and 9.2 and WITN has not been freezing up. Every now and then Ill get a little freeze on 9 but not very often.
The freezing on Directv ch 15 is every few seconds, just like the UPN feed did when it first launched on Directv.
I wish they would move the channel to 10 after WNCT.
Thanks Jamielee. Back out to the antenna drawing board. LOL
Hows everyones reception tonight? I am getting Charleston and Raleigh channels now. Watching Jeopardy in HD on WTVD.
WITN and WNCT are still awful. WITN is not viewable, and WNCT pixelates every five seconds. I'm begining to wonder if a tree has grown to block the tower. Every other channel is rock solid.
jamieh1 10-30-06, 10:07 PM Eastern, anyword on the problems with the directv feed of WNCT CW?
Cant believe we have not heard anything from you about Directv carring The CW.
Are you going to add it to the list of carriers on the website and the commercials?
jamieh1 10-31-06, 08:38 AM Appears WNCT CBS is currently airing on Directv ch 15 as well as channel 9, must be working on the problems with the channel. OTA 9.2 is still The CW.
Glad to see that they are working on the problems and are not going to let it drag on for months like the UPN issues 2 years ago.
jamieh1 10-31-06, 02:04 PM Well The CW is back on Directv ch 15, the picture problems are fixed.
Good job Directv and WNCT on a fast fix.
This may or may not be a coincidence, but the pixelation has stopped for me OTA on WNCT 9 DT channels. Also WITN has come back in, but every once in a while will drop off.
The AUDIO on THE CW 9.2 is all coming from the Right front speaker and some in the center channel speaker. I have my audio receiver on PRO-Logic mode.
Just for anyone new to the area or may be in the Jacksonville area, these are the digital channels that I pick up regularly.

jamieh1 11-03-06, 07:38 PM Wheres everybody at?
I see WNCT has added Directv to there commercial that shows systems and channel numbers .
Eastern must be out of town or very busy, havent seen him here in a while.
Back when CW first launched, when I asked V Jones at WNCT about CW on Directv, see said Ill let you know when we do get on Directv, Still have not heard from her.
Oh well!
Right now Im with out OTA digital, I unhooked my HR10-250 HD DVR and hooked up my HR20 Directv HDDVR plus, the OTA tuners have not been activated yet, should be in the next few weeks, I may go back to my HD TiVo until they come on.
beanpod 11-03-06, 11:37 PM There was several incidences of heavy pixelation on 9.2 CW tonight while watching Smackdown with the kids. WNCT 9.1 was reception was perfect, so I tend to doubt it was the signal. Also, the pixelation wasn't typical of signal breakup. It was more diffuse and centralized. Anyone else watch Smackdown tonight and can confirm???
I've been around, just nothing new to post. I didn't watch much HDTV this weekend.
jamieh1 11-08-06, 07:56 AM Is it just me or does WITN 7.3 look better. I only watched for a couple of seconds last night, not enough time to see many motion shots.
Maybe WITN will add some different content to this channel.
jamieh1 11-08-06, 08:04 AM One idea for WITN 7.3 is to maybe have WITN NEWS CHANNEL
They could air the news, sports and weather, similar to WRAL NEWS on 5.2, run the local news cast, then the NBC national news, they can run loops thru out the day, and have updates thru out. They even could between news maybe run WITN CARS, and WITN CLASSIFIEDS. They could also have BUISNESS BREAK. All these are options and could create additional money for the station.
I noticed a difference in WITN quality too yesterday. I am still working to fix the break-up on that channel. For some reason things have changed lately. To get WNCT free of pixelation, I have to go lower to the ground, but then it messes up other channels. WITN is still in and out
either way. The amplifier is getting overloaded I think, but if I take it off then I can't get WSFX DT very well. I'm thinking of trying a Winegard 8800 UHF only, but fearful it won't get WNCT.
They have a winegard at a local electronic store just five minutes from here. The guy I spoke to was amazed at all the stations I am getting!
OK I fixed the problem by aiming more toward the north for WITN/WNCT.
Here are my signal results with the wind blowing good....
WWAY- 85% 25 dB Solid vid/aud
WECT- N/A during afternoon
WITN- 96-98% 25 dB solid
WNCT-92% 25 dB slight audio freeze about every 40 secs.
WCTI- 97% 25 dB solid
WUNM 89-90% bounsing between 19 dB and 25 dB but solid vid/aud
WSFX- 80-81% 19-20 dB solid
WPXU- 98-99% 25 dB solid
WUNJ- 87% 25 dB solid
This is as good as I could do. I will see what happens tonight and report the signals again.
David-the-dtv-ma 11-12-06, 11:18 PM HeY I live In Myrtle Beach. Since I have just now gotten on this site. So I may be behind times. But How are you picking up WECT digital now. I can not get it but not as good as I can WUNJ. WUNJ is about 9 db stronger. But WUNJ is top mounted. WECT is on the side of the tower. Also WECT had that tower for analog channel 6 from about 1958 until 1969. Ch 6 was pretty good about a -12 db] back then & was very reliable. Then in 1969 they switched to the 2000 foot tower & gave the tower to the NC ETV. Of course back then ch 6 was on the top. WUNJ digital is just as reliable today as WECT analog was back then. Only differents now is that because of the way digital work if you get it at all the screen is solid. WECT back then was just a little bit snowy. Then when they went to the 2000 foot tower it was rock solid & almost perfectly clear.
David,
I don't get them until after 5 PM usually, and they go off about 9 or 10AM. This is when the weather is clear. Yesterday I didn't see WECT at all because of the Low pressure passing by.
When WECT does come in it is solid video and audio. I get WUNJ-DT all the time too.
Also usually on clear nights I pick up all the Charleston SC channels... WCBD, WCSC, WTAT, etc...
jamieh1 11-14-06, 07:31 AM Ken
Anyword on ENC moving back to some of the lower packages on cable and if Directv is going to put it back on.
WCTI should push the message on channel 12 for views to call Directv and tell them that we want ENCTV back, I think if alot of us call they might add it back.
Ive done research and Directv does carry independant channels, there are lots of markets that have ind channels in there local package.
Is the enctv website going to be updated to a regular web site soon?
Where is Easternncnewswat lately? I keep going to wnct.com and just about every time I do he's added more content! I like the big red weather banner they throw up when weather takes a turn. I did look at some of the photos. That was a good idea. I had one similar for another site I used to go to, but they said it was a crappy idea, and didn't see what the purpose would be! Needless to say they lost out.
jamieh1 11-14-06, 05:29 PM I was thinking the same thing, I hope WNCT has not banned him from here.
I figured when Directv added WNCT-DT 9.2 to the local package that we would here from him.
I wonder if Directv/WNCT used the same equipment that WCTI purchased 2 yrs ago when they added UPN 48?
Banned him? I would think a moderator of AVS would need to ban. I can't see where he did anything that warranted banning-either by WNCT or AVS.
easternncnewswat 11-14-06, 09:19 PM No guys, I'm still here. Been busy. Don't get to watch as much tv as I used too; certainly not as much local news as i used to. Still check everyone out once in a while when I have the time. I was shocked the other day to see the Colleen over at 12 has started to grow her hair out! *LOL* She looks great :)
The website keeps me pretty busy most of the time. I've added 7 new pages over the past 3 days! Still, there are too few hours in the day to do everything I want to with it. It's starting to get like the encdtv days- full steam ahead! Like they say on the broadcast side...
dum... dum...dum... Stay tuned!
*LOL*
Btw, well, it's been two weeks... I wonder why WYDO DT isn't on the air? I wonder why we've heard that how many times before? (Sorry, I had to go there!) ;)
I was going to ask if you know when we can expect to see LIVE VIPIR 9 to come up on 9-3?
I miss it a lot, and I know of Cable TV viewers who miss it as well. Didn't the Manager say it would be up this month?
About WYDO, they have to do an overhaul on the satellites I think, and thats why there is no
signal. In an earlier post someone said Don Fisher hoped to have both signals up during the
first of next year. WFXI is building a new tower some where out there.... Who knows where! :D
easternncnewswat 11-14-06, 10:28 PM Not sure about Live VIPIR 9; haven't heard. I know that it is a priority, but not at the sake of PQ. That is the real challenge there. Granted, a static radar wouldn't take much bandwith, but, personally, I'd like to see something more dynamic. Anyway, I'll pass around your interest!
beanpod 11-15-06, 12:52 AM Personally, I liked it the way it was, when I wanted live radar I didn't have to wait. Much prefer a static Vipir 9 live in contrast to a little weather radar and a bunch of used car sales pitching or live shots of a tidal change waiting for a live radar screen.
I agree, but I see where eastern is coming from too. They could do news or weather updates at the top and bottom of the hour, and the rest of the time, have VIPIR full screen... I could live with that. I have started to find all those banners/colunms of the same thing over and over a bit boring.
We are likely to have rough storms tomorrow, and now I either have to wait for radar on WWAY 3-2 or WITN 7-2 up to 3 minutes sometimes.. :(
jamieh1 11-19-06, 10:11 AM anyone getting little freezes ups on WCTI 12?

jamieh1 11-19-06, 10:26 AM Anyone see the Friday night 6p WRAL news?

I saw about 10-15 minutes of it on Friday night on the Newschannel. I wish I could have been home to see it in HD. I think it's awesome that WRAL did that; nice tip of the hat to the viewer! I had a friend burn it on a DVD for me- still have to pick it up, that's why I haven't seen the whole thing yet. Loved the promo bumpers that I saw during the show! Really good stuff.
Has anyone seen this before? This rotator uses the coax to send a signal to the motor. Now you don't need that extra line coming in. This may very well be on my Christmas list!

{BOHICA}Sparky 11-21-06, 12:41 PM So I ditched the dish network route and went back to timewarner. Just not in the cards for me right now.
However, has anyone been getting bad pixelation and loss of audio/signal on ABC and NBC lately (HD)? The football game (OSU vs. Michigan) was horrible on ABC on Saturday, but it's was the only channel having that issue...
What was wrong with Dish?
I have not had any problems with ABC 12's but I have been having big problems with NBC 7s for a while now. I am over amplifing their signal. When I use an indoor bowtie type antenna I don't have issues with 7, so I am guessing it's overkill from outside that is my problem.
jamieh1 11-22-06, 07:26 PM anyone else having issues getting the RDU channels tonight?
easternncnewswat 11-22-06, 08:28 PM Not right now.
I'm having problems with NBC as usual, but nothing else. I think the area of Low pressure effects reception of distant signals. Each time we have this kind of weather I don't see WECT or the Charleston channels.
jamieh1 11-22-06, 11:58 PM I hope the strong winds today didnt knock my antenna out of line.
The winds over night and this morning were very strong, they were sustained not just gust. This is probally some of the worst Ive seen in a long time.
David-the-dtv-ma 11-25-06, 11:48 PM When I first installed my dtv tuner I mounted a channel master 3021 uhf antenna with a channel master model 7475 30 db uhf preamp. I could not receive WECT digital but I could receive WWAY & WUNJ. Then I tested the antennas on the ground in my front yard. I measured on a sencore db meter & then I could receive WECT dt at -45 db. This is because the WECT dt antenna at Delco is 90 degrees to the right if you stand in my front yard facing the street. The street is straight & down hill. But I could not just move the antenna from the back of the house to my front yards near the street because that would look tacky. Then one of my neighbors down the street cut down the pine trees in his front yard. So I did some spot testing for signal on the roof. I found that when I stood on one place near a vent pipe I could then receive WECT. When I looked in the direction of the signal I could see the sky like looking through a tunnel through the pines & like looking out of an window through the woods. So I bought from Radio Shack a vent pipe antenna mount & mounted the antenna at that location. Now I get WECT 99.9 precent of the time now. WUNJ & WWAY still came through the pines trees before. WECT needs a clear path thou.
I think WECT will lose a LOT of viewers when analog is cut off, if they do not increase the height of their antenna. People up towards Raleigh can get the analog signal since it is so strong, but a good half of the viewers will not be able to get the digital. Also they may have no choice but to stay where they are, since Charlotte has a PBS on channel 44 I think.
Anyone getting out of market catches? No DTV's from the south for me, my antenna is pointed towards Richmond from Virginia Beach but a lot of catches further north...
I am getting Raleigh analogs...
easternncnewswat 11-26-06, 06:36 PM I was getting the Triad last night. I saw digital channel 8 pop in my receiver and thought WFXI was coming in; it was GHP. Haven't checked this evening though.
Just checked... Getting FMY this early in the evening! Wow!

WECT is on the side of the tower & at 900 feet. My experience with two way radio antennas when I was in the communciatons shop was that side mount antenna NEVER preform like the top mount. There are so many parts of the of the tower that are at various wave lengths from the driven dipole. The steel parts not at even multiple of 1/4 wave lengths will cause some of the signal to be reflected out of phase of the direct signal off the driven dipole. They will cause ghost in analog signal. In a digital signal the will cancel some of the direct signal. There some directional antennas with a shield that can be used on a side mount. But they will stop all of the power from going to the other side of the tower & you would be receive them very weak a mile on the other side of the tower. If they could some how share the top of the tower or share that antenna on the top they would do just fine. WUNJ that is now on the top is doing fine. I can understand them not using the 2000 foot tower. But I think they need to consider the 2000 foot tower with a directional antenna to push the power toward Wilmington or another tower in the Wilmington area when they can have the top with out any obstructions. You are right as it is now when the shut down the analog they will have about as much coverage as they did in 1954 when the went on the air on the side of an 400 foot tower.

That makes sense. The Raleigh channels are all on what they call a Callabrella tower I believe, which is designed to hold several antenna's at the top of the tower. Capitol owns the tower and several of the other area stations are on that
stick. WSFX and WWAY dt's share the same antenna at the top of that tower, and I always have perfect reception. Originally WSFX was going to be side mounted, but they changed their minds at the last minute! (thankfully)!
The WECT analog tower is so old, they claim it is not worth updating it to house the digital equip. During our last nor Easter my dad told me he was watching channel 6 analog, and the picture was really distorted. He said he figured that old tower was really swaying in the wind.
Well what did you think of it? :)
Foxeng, I wish I could talk my dad into installing an antenna. I feel confident if he did
I could see WGHP when I go to his house. He is at a fairly decent height on the North side of Fayetteville, and to the north of there it is all down hill. I bet he could get many market channels actually.
Just watched the South Carolina lottery drawing on WCBD--lots of strong DXing tonight!
Just watched the South Carolina lottery drawing on WCBD--lots of strong DXing tonight!Looks like the "cloud" has moved south. Not like it was last night here in Virginia Beach...
Last night I was getting Raleigh and Richmond VA.
Tonight it's all coming from the south-- I did get a UNC channel off of 20 which re-mapped to 2x's. Is this from Columbia NC?

Sounds like Columbia to me.
Columbia's WUND is on analog 2 digital 20.
Thanks guys, I've never picked that up before on digital.
easternncnewswat 11-28-06, 11:28 AM Question for you guys... Superman Returns arrives on DVD today. Should I get the HD or Blu Ray version? Will they play in a non-HD DVD player? I don't intend to purchase a HD DVD player anytime soon, but should I start purchasing HD or Blu Ray DVD in anticipation of the future?
What do you guys think?
agregjones 11-28-06, 01:30 PM It is my understanding that HD-DVD discs have an HD side and a non-HD side for just such occasions. I do not believe Blu-Ray discs are being produced that way at this time.
easternncnewswat 11-28-06, 02:38 PM Thanx Greg! Once I got to Best Buy and saw the Collector's Edition, I nixed the HD/Blu Ray thing and dived into hog heaven! *LOL*
At least I know... Wasn't sure how that HD DVD/Blu Ray thing worked.

easternncnewswat 11-29-06, 08:04 PM Ok, I'll say it... Wow!
Interesting for sure. Now the question is when will we see this here? I still say that WITM 7.1 looks faded out compared to WECT and WNCN
Don't let the anti-multicast people in the Programming Section find out about it!! :)
beanpod 11-29-06, 09:57 PM Now that you mention it, Leno and Conan look richer (video definition and colorwise)on WNCN. Maybe WITN 7.1 will upgrade their audio to transmit DD too.
It's the end of November and still no VIPIR--and still no WYDO dT. LOL I went back and re-read
and eastern you were right, the e-mail posted said WYDO DT would be up in two weeks. Well that has been a month now. I can't believe all this stalling is legit.

Yup...
  Did anyone else attempt to record or watch this show on 7.1 last night? I went to watch it this morning and there is no audio at all. That is bad enough but they never flip the show to HD until about 20 minutes in!!!!!!!!!!   The only show I really like on NBC and 7 for that matter and they screw it up every week.
I figured out what went wrong with the sound... somehow the volume on my STB got turned all the way down. So that is not WITN's fault. This place must be haunted, because I never turned that volume off like that. Yikes!
Anybody having trouble with 9dtv I have tried them on two antenna systems and cannot get the signal to lock in. I have a panasonic th50px60 with the lastest firmware upgrade also will not lockin on my Direct tv H20 box . I get everything else fine. MY antennas which i have tried two of them. A vhf high antenna 7-13with no preamp. I also have a 4 bay bowtie with preamp. By the way i have a 90-100 signal level. I live in winterville and antenna is up 40 feet.
igoew,
since you are so close you may be overloaded with signal. Try lowering that high band antenna to maybe 20 or 25 ft. I wouldn't use a pre-amp unless you have a 100ft cable run. How are you combining the two antenna?
Are you picking up FOX from Raleigh?
RMartin631 12-05-06, 04:39 PM I'm 4 miles east of Ayden and DT-9 is coming in 1080i by 16:9.
RMartin,
How high is your antenna? One thing I found that helped me was aiming the tilt toward the horizon. Since I did that I have solid reception on WITN. When the leaves started falling I lost WITN alltogether. The leaves must have attenuated the signal. I use an amp so that I can pull in the Wilmington FOX 26 without signal loss. WNCT does pixelate a little every so often, but I don't lose audio. I'm afraid if I try to fix that-something else will screw up, so I can live with it.
i get everything else fine. I have alot of experince with tv antennas I used to be in the TV business and I installed all kinds of antennas. The vhf antenna is aim south of here which is right at the grifton tower sight. I will kept trying some other stuff to see if I can determine what is going on.
RMartin631 12-06-06, 02:20 AM RMartin, How high is your antenna?
I'm up about 20 feet. It's a RS 120" antenna with a Eagle Aspen no-wire rotor. I can get all of the offerings from 5, 7, 9, 12, 14 (analog), 25, 28, and 50. 14 is so close I have to turn the antenna at a 90 degree angle to the tower before it comes in good. I also have a 200+ foot tall water tower about 300 feet from my house and the multipath on 14 is wicked if I don't turn the antenna. 11 comes in once in a while but since it's a mimic of 12 I don't bother with it.
The one station that I really would like to get is 43 out of Norfolk. Go Redskins!
RMartin, you might want to try and tune CW 22 from Raleigh also. They are on channel 57
I often times get NBC-17 (55) as well. You might need to go higher than 20ft though for those.
14 analog here is too snowy to watch, and the color is terrible when it is halfway decent. I can't even see 8 analog here. I thought about the wireless rotatator, but there would be a 2 dbs loss with it, so I didn't order it.

I already get both 17 and 22 locked all the time. I can't beleive I left 17 off of my list since it is what I watch for news in the morning. 22 is like 11, a mimic of 9-2 and The CW doesn't have much for me anyway.
This TV I have, Sumsung 42" DLP, will lock onto almost anything that comes down the wire. It's the complete opposite of the TV we started experimenting with, a 27" RCA SDTV.
My Samsung doesn't give the actual channel that the station is broadcasting on, just the channel number that the station advertises. My RCA is the same way.
The Samsung shows bars like a cell phone for signal strength. The RCA has nothing.
Question...
The Eagle Aspen sends 18v up the wire to power the rotor. If I have the need will that 18v also power my Channel Master 7777 (which is currently sitting in the box it came in)?

Also any word on Vipir coming back on 9.3?
easternncnewswat 12-07-06, 05:04 PM I'll be posting some pics of my tree in a photo gallery tonight with some of the others. Plus, Kara Lusk has a special photo gallery I'll be posting tonight too I hope.
I'll probably do my video blog tomorrow... Bleh! *LOL*
I just wish I could get more viewers to send in some pictures and video. I can't believe nobody in ENC has a webcam or video on their cell phone. I'm stumped on that one.
VIPIR on 9.3 sooner rather than later I think. I think they're working on it.
I see some really well decorated trees in that newsroom! You all sure look like your having a good time with it! :D
easternncnewswat 12-07-06, 06:35 PM It's fun. We thought viewers might enjoy a little levity with everything going on in the world these days. Plus, I think it's ok to poke fun at yourself once in a while as long as you let everyone else in on the joke.

If they give jamie one then I am going to send in for one. I think he is about the same distance from them as I am. I bet they give the Channel master 8 bay. It is
excellent but heavy as hell.
beanpod 12-07-06, 11:56 PM I'm keeping a watch on the WRAL antenna offer too. I'm currently using a Stealthtenna with preamp board, no rotor, just pointed to the Clayton antenna farm, and can pull in WRAL DT 80-90% of the time and NBC17 DT about 99% (Leno clear as a bell in tonights winds). Reception of WRAL was actually better before leaves dropped...unusual. Of course all Greenville locals 100% (even WCTI12 DT from backside). Benefit of NBC17 is 5.1 audio transmission. Real goal is FOX50 DT and need a better antenna for that. I'm about 8 mile SE of Kinston, FWIW.

If you're getting that kind of signal from Raleigh, I'd just suggest a rotor. That antenna is doing its' job well! Fox 50 has lost a transmitter tube which will be in next week, so they are running at reduced power right now. Even though we're all bolted to the same candelabra, tweaking the antenna a degree or so makes a difference, so a rotor helps. FYI, the layout at the top of the tower has WRAL bolted on top Fox 50 on one leg, My 17 analog bolted on top my DTV 17, and WLFL and WRDC stacked on the third leg, with WTVD a few hundred yards away on their own tower. In theory, if you get one, you can get all, not that I'm suggesting you cross market lines, skip commercials, or time shift your programming or anything.
Even though we're all bolted to the same candelabra, tweaking the antenna a degree or so makes a difference, so a rotor helps.
I can verify that. I don't have a rotator, but when I have turned the antenna manually it has made a big difference. At times I could get WRDC and WRAL but not WTVD or your channel, and vise versa. My RDC is the easiest to pick up here. Usually after 7 PM. and in the early morning
jamieh1 12-08-06, 08:54 PM Matt at WRAL said he's ordered me a channel master 4228 multibay antenna.
He also sent me a good paper he wrote on antenna reception.
Give the give away a try.
You may disappointed in the 4228 on the high uhf channels
I have the 4 bay and it out performs it on the uhf high channels which 11, 5 are transmitted on.
Brandonw27858 12-08-06, 11:10 PM I put my request in at about 2:30pm this afternoon. I will let you know when I hear back from them. Thanks for the info! Hopefully if I do get one it will work better than the one I have in my attic now. I don't pick up much of anything. I have the U-75R from RS. Being that I am in a condo and having to shoot through all of my neighbors' attics also, I am wondering if a realy good indoor/rabbit-ear antenna would work better. All I really want to pick up is Fox HD.

With a 4228 from Greensboro, I have no problems receiving WRAL-DT on 53 but have lots of problems with WTVD-DT on 52 and WNCN-DT on 55. FWIW.
foxeng is yours on a rotator? I have a 4221 and it will pick up either WRAL and WRDC when aimed properly, or WTVD and WNCN, but hardly ever will it do all of them together.

Oh yeah, it is on a rotator. I have no idea why since down at the transmitter, which is less than 5 miles from WFMY-DT on 51, I get WTVD-DT with no problem but still have problems with WNCN-DT and it doesn't matter if it is on a $12,000 DTV demod receiver or a $180 home STB. It has always been that way.
I am up 50feet with a 4221 with winegard preamp hdp269 4bay bowtie I get 5,50,22,28 at 93%. I get 17 and 11 @ about 85% they don't seem to be as strong. Most of the time i can point to ralieigh and get everything i need at a good level and still get 7,9,12. still have a problem with 9( I will kept working on) so i just watch 5 cbs.
jamieh1 12-10-06, 11:01 AM Did anyone look outside last night and see the shuttle fly by about 5 minutes after launch.
This was the 2nd time Ive seen it go by. Basically looked like a air plane except a little faster.
Would of been better if it had the flames behind it, only thing you saw was a white dot going across the horizon, about 30-40 seconds.
Next time you can see the shuttle or space station is next weekend.
Go to NASA web site and theres a link for viewing times.
RMartin631 12-10-06, 03:13 PM I missed it last night but I've seen it a bunch of times previously. Once we saw it chasing a satellite it was supposed to bring back to Earth. Pretty neat stuff. I see the Air Force and Marines doing a lot of stuff at night just south of me.

easternncnewswat 12-11-06, 10:08 PM Yes, I'm receiving at around 80% signal strength on my Samsung 351. On my Insignia SDTV, it's around 58%.

What happened to the 50kw plan? Are they not going full power until analog shuts off? I noticed that the proposed high power DT antenna and the current analog antenna seem to be at the same elevation with the low power DT at a lower elevation.
I was also looking at the polar plot for the analog antenna. What Fox station are the people to the east of Pitt County supposed to watch?
I'm actually getting this station tonight in Virginia Beach but with no picture or PSIP info. The i O&O here in SE VA is "experiencing" the same issue. Are i O&Os "linked" together somehow???
I'm getting WPXU DT just fine as far as signal goes, but they are having a microwave issue tonight, because there is fading taking place.
What Fox station are the people to the east of Pitt County supposed to watch?
I have always wondered that myself. WFXI does cover the eastern areas better than WYDO. But both coverage patterns suck if you want my personal opinion...

RMartin631 12-13-06, 12:51 PM Is anybody getting video from 14-1? All I get is audio.

Gettting audio and video here; one of those Mazda 30 minute ads.
cpanther1 12-13-06, 05:00 PM I just noticed that WNCT has a channel 10 on local channels that is mostly CW. The first time I noticed was this past weekend.

Yeah, 9.2 The CW was picked up by Dish last Friday, I think. They still have WCTI's ENC TV on channel 48 too.
jamieh1 12-13-06, 07:49 PM Directv has WNCT DT2 The CW on channel 15, it took the place of the national CW that was on 15.
They dropped ENCTV .
jamieh1 12-13-06, 07:51 PM Getting WYDO DT here in Washington, having some freeze ups however.
I just voted for Kara's tree over on WNCT.com--She is really whipping everyone with that red white and blue salute!
jamieh1 12-13-06, 08:50 PM Those of you that have the New Directv HR20 HDDVR and have been waiting for the OTA tuners to be activated, well tonight may be your night.
last week Directv released software version 0x104 that enabled the OTA tuners to a smaller area in California for testing, then last night they released a new version once again to the small area, this had a few more fixes and enabled ViiV music and photo sharing from your computers. Well tonight If you want to take the risk and download the new version, between 11p and 2am Est, you can by resetting the receiver and once the welcome screen comes up press 02468 on the remote, this will load the update. If the update cause you problems you can do the reload again and it will revert back.
Unless something changes at the last minute this is a way to get the update before the offical national release.
go to www.dbstalk.com
for more info.
Retspin 12-13-06, 09:43 PM I've had no luck getting WYDO digital here in Wilson. Maybe I'll have better luck when they are at full power.
RMartin631 12-14-06, 04:54 AM Can anybody recommend a good attenuator available locally? 14-1 is either shooting right over my head or I'm too close. Neither of my DTVs will pick it up.

I got to messing around with the accessories pluged in the same surge protector as my amplifier and found that one of the devices was causing electrical interference on WNCT HD and that was what was causing the slight freezes in picture and audio... All this time I thought it was my antenna, and it was electrical interference!!! sigh
Now WNCT and the CW are rock solid. :) I was thinking low band was subject to electrical interference, but apparently High band channels are too.
I have a DVD recorder, Satellite receiver, and the TV plugged into that surger with the amp.
Then I have a high quality 3 way splitter that feeds two other sets, one HD with tuner built in and an analog set. Both Digital rooms are perfect now.

Just wanted to thank you for this little tidbit. I've been talking in circles with DirecTV trying to figure out when they were going to enable this for the HR20. I read this post just in time last night to download the software. So far I haven't seen any wierd side effects with this unit and no reduction in PQ going through the DVR. Now if WFXI would just boost their power so I could watch Fox as well... ;)
WITN did it again... Standard def at the beginning of "SNL" for about a minute, then
flipped the switch.

With this update you can also hook it up via the RJ45 E.Net port via a router if you have one and view your photos and music off your computer.
This is if you have the new ViiV on your computer OR the new WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER 11 that just came out.
I hooked mine up yesterday and you can view all your photos just like you do on you computer and all your saved audio, you can even play music with your photos.
Once you get WM11, go to TOOLS, then OPTIONS, then LIBRARY TAB, then CONFIGURE SHARING... then CLICK SHARE MY MEDIA.
Once you do this go thru the HR20 setup menu to network then follow steps.
make sure you have the computer on. Sometimes it will take a few minutes, youll see a UNKNOWN DEVICE detected in the block under where you selected Share my media.
this is the hr20.
Once connected you see the music and pictures tab on the HR20.
Youre all set.
If you do not have a router you can pick one up for $35 and up.
jamieh1 12-17-06, 10:14 AM Saturday FEDEX brought me my free antenna from WRAL.
I got a 8 bay antenna 4228, and they even gave me a 7775 channel master pre amp.
If you still have your HDTV tuner or TV receipt, send it in.
Matt at WRAL said I was out of there area but I told him that most of us here get there signal and he ordered me one.
What a deal.
