Im hearing that Dish Network will add WCTI-HD and WFXI-HD around Feb 24th.

Ken, Have you heard any news about WCTI-HD on Directv? I thought a new deal had been reached 2 weeks ago, but still nothing.

I misread that first part as DirecTV. I was about to be pissed. I did get excited last night as they removed the regular WCTI off the guide. I tuned to 12, but still SD. :(

Is WFXI the exact same broadcast as WYDO? I know they're broadcast from different locations. I'm having problems with WYDO through DirecTV that I never had with WFXI over the air. It's not my signal strength either, cause every transponder on that satellite is 93-95%

Quick question, is WCTI's production department perpetually hiring PT tape operators/PAs? Every time I check the job listings on wcti12.com that job is posted. I'd send a resume if I had one :D

Any Directv subscribers with HD locals notice anything funny with the picture on WYDO? The picture is very jumpy, almost like slow motion. It's like every other frame is not coming through. The sound seems to be normal, though. I didn't notice it on Judge Judy this afternoon, but did notice it when House was on tonight. WITN and WNCT look great.

I have had this same problem with WRAY (Fox 50.1) using my OTA antenna in the evenings (6PM to 8PM). I just bought a DirecTV H20 receiver and I don't have the problem any more when using the OTA antenna through it. I can switch the antenna back to the TV tuner directly and the problem comes back.

I've haven't watched much WYDO on DirecTV yet, but I'll let you know if I notice it.

Interesting. That seems to be the opposite problem I'm having. With my little clip-on-dish antenna, I could get WFXI, but not WYDO. WFXI looked fantastic when I had good signal strength; I never saw anything like I've seen with WYDO over satellite.

I cant believe that it is taking so long for Directv to add the WCTI-HD feed back to Directv. Ken said a deal was reached early last week, but still no HD feed on Directv.

Im glad I can get WCTI over the air in HD.

I came on here looking for an answer and it was waiting for me. Thanks Jamie. Sure did suck watching my DVR'd Lost in SD last night.

SHOUT OUT TO WCTI, get it FIXED!!

Yes. WYDO-HD on DirecTV was choppy watching the first 5 hours of 24. The only thing though, the football games this past weekend looked fine. Weird

Boo, US Senators. :( It looks like the bill allows stations to go ahead and switch to digital only if they choose. I wonder what the odds of that happening around here are.

Now if DirecTV would get off their lazy a@#es and turn on WCTI in HD, I will be fine.

I called DirecTV on the way home and they told me there is no agreement with WCTI yet, otherwise they would already be broadcasting it in HD. Not sure I really believe her, as she was just a regular CSR. I wasn't really sure who to ask for.

edit: I don't know why I am letting this bother me so much.... maybe I'm just so bored at work. Anyways I e-mailed some PR guy at D* about it and he said the HD signal should be up by Friday. I'll believe it when I see it.

Is it just me, or does anyone else feel like we are living in the dark ages in Eastern NC? I mean come on....

I have read the last 3 pages of people complaining about the lack of HD channels on Suddenlink, the bad PQ from local stations, etc. I am still not over FOX 8/14 screwing up the Super Bowl last year, I am still very aggrevated about that.

I have been with DirecTV since 2003. I dropped Sudden Link, Cox at the time, after about 2 months of service. Now that I have DirecTV the crap that goes on with the local channels still effects me.

I really only watch the local stations for football and a select few shows like House, American Idol, etc. However I am a huge football freak and my Sunday's consist of football, football, and more football.

For the past 3 seasons I was always able to watch football games in HD on NFL Sunday Ticket Superfan. I was able to get the games on Sunday Ticket even if they were being broadcasted locally because DTV didn't offer HD locals then.

Now that they are offering HD Locals, I am so worried that I will have to be subdued to watching piss poor quality on the local FOX station. And god forbid they run a crawl on WNCT or WITN, the picture goes to SD and never switches back....

That happened to me twice when watching Sunday night football this past season. One second I am watching the Cowboys win a huge game against the Giants, the next second I am looking at tonight's lottery numbers and they switch the game off right as it is over and I don't see the interview with Tony Romo, Terrell Owens, and Jason Witten.... I am still P.O.'d about that! And one more thing, WITN via QAM, OTA, and DTV has audio fades. 1 second the audio is way up and the next second it goes down considerably. And the PQ on the SD version of ABC is HORRIBLE. I can't even watch college football on that channel it is so bad. 10 years ago it was fine. But the point is, the picture now looks the exact same as it did 10 years ago. Grainy, blurry, snowey, etc.

I am sorry for ranting, I am just hopeing someone here feels the same as I do.... like we are living in the dark ages and no one has enough money, knowledge or will power to get us up to date. All I keep hearing about is atmospheric interference, contracts, negotiations, blah blah blah!

How sad is this.... I have contemplated many times moving away from this area just to be somewhere a little more modern. I intentionally applied for several jobs in different locations in an attempt to just get out of here...

Like 1 person said a couple pages back, because the average salary in this area may be a little lower then other places, that doesn't mean the quality of service should suffer. Thanks for listening.

Locals are now simulcast on the new D11 HD satellite. Directv is upgrading markets that use the 2nd dish free of charge.
If you have a standard reciever youll be changed over to a mpeg 4 HD reciever. H20 or above.
If you have a dvr you will be changed to the R22 MPEG4 SD DVR free.

I'm about ready to take the plunge and swap Suddenlink cable for D*, but would like to keep my HSI with them (always had great service for several years).

My question for those in Rocky Mount, Greenville, Washington, etc, is can you use Suddenlink HSI and either Directtv or Dish on the same coax line?

My living room has a large "built-in" above the fireplace, and 95% of my electronics are up there, it's HUGE. There is only a single coax going up to it, and putting in another would be a massive pain and/or expense, due to fireplace removal and such.

The reason I need both on one line is that my modem/router is up there also, and needs to stay (for reasons I won't get into due to length).

So, I can easily have D* installed, run a line under the house, and split into the one that leads up to my built-in, and that's the only spot I want a D* receiver. Then I would split them back out to receiver and modem.

From some quick searching, I see with proper equipment (and knowing what frequencies/bandwidths are being used) that this can be done. I want to know if any of you are currently doing this today. I would like some direction on whether to proceed or forget it as a pipe dream.

I'm not interested in switching to DSL, nor running new/extra coax lines, so if this is a dead-end, I may be stuck with Suddenlink's 2005 HD lineup. :(

Thanks for any and all of your lessons learned you'll share.

jeffreydavisjr
01-30-09, 07:29 AM
I am fairly sure that DTV will have to be brought into your house on a separate coax. Some more knowledgable members over at DBSTalk.com could probably answer that question for you. But I also have SL HSI and DTV, They are indeed brought in on separate lines.

You could always call an electrician before hand and have him run the cables, etc for you. Would you be using a DVR from DirecTV? If so you may require 2 lines coming into your house from the DirecTV satellite. Unless they are distrubuting SWM's in this area now.

Good luck. If you do make the switch, I believe you will be happy. I don't think you should let a little cable run stand in your way.

Blame that one on Raycom. Raycom partners with a local affiliate in each DMA and unfortunately in the Greenville/New Bern/Washington area it's WCTI(ABC). In the RDU DMA it's WRAL (CBS) so therefore they got to watch Lost at it's regular timeframe. Raycom sucks a fat one. At least they finally broadcast games in HD now, although it still looks half-a$$ed and the commentators are horrendous.

I've read a lot of comments toward the negative on our locals. One thing people seem to automatically assume is that because an entity owns a TV station that they have tons of money to spend on all the bells and whistles to make it perfect. If they did, obviously it would have every latest thing that is possible. I've been waiting for Dolby digital on WCTI and WITN forever, but it does no good to keep saying it... I know that if the engineers could get it, they would. I bet they want it too. The stations want HD storm crawls, and I'm sure would love to have HD news, but they only can get what is possible with the funding they receive. The FCC says it must be aired, and on the primary channels. The Raleigh channels get a ton of monies from advertising, and can much quickly afford the things much smaller markets can't in the beginning. The technology is changing so fast.

They are as bad as Time Warner now almost. They are getting too big for their own good. My bill will be approaching $80 at least!!!! As we reported here before in The Satellite Dish, Dish Network is raising most of its rates starting today. These new prices are now listed on the Dish Network website. To make things more interesting is that many Dish Network customers have not been notified of the price change and in fact their bills for February do not show the new pricing.

This irked me too... not so much that the UNC game pre-empting Lost; WCTI probably has a contract to carry Raycom Sports ACC games, which is cool with me as I am a UNC fan... they aired the Lost episode at 1am which would have been fine since I just set my DVR to record it, but to my dismay this weekend when I went to watch it it was in standard-def! So I ended up hooking my laptop up to my tv so I could watch it in HD goodness from abc.com. Forget the DTV switchover, we really need a HDTV switchover!

I really hope stations like WCTI WITN are upgrading their equipment soon, it seems like all they can do is pass an HD feed on from the mother-network, otherwise if they have to use a recording like with Lost last week, it is in SD. It's also annoying when there is a new/weather alert ticker the picture has to switch to SD because their equipment can't handle transmitting that with the HD feed. Thank god Suddenlink broadcasts WRAL, they have their act together with the HD.

One thing that will help your picture quality is the HDMI output that will be on the new HD box. It will be alot clearer than the S-Video, RF, and Composite outputs.

Yeah, that's what I'm hopeing. They tried like the dickens to get me to upgrade to HD though. I'm glad I didn't now that I know they're raising their rates.

Time Warner of Jacksonville apparently now is passing along the local HD's via QAM according to one poster in Wilmington's topic. They ceased Wilmington stations on that however it seems.

I am enjoying "ThisTV" so far. It has Western movies, and retro movies from the 80's. Right now, "Once Bitten" is showing. Some vampire movie. lol

Other shows like Mr. Ed, and Patty Duke, plus Mallard Mysteries are on it. Ripley's Believe it or not... Stagecoach movie tomorrow is listed plus several others similar. It's kind of like some of those channels in the Starz pack, only free to air, and with commercials.

Its a annual thing. For the last 4 or 5 yrs Directv and Dish have raised there prices. I remember when I 1st got Directv I paid $29.95 and it stayed that for years.
I think congress needs to step in and limit these increases.

Getting congress involved will just make it worse. Remember those satellite use taxes? The best thing we can do is cancel service if we don't like the price. If we do, we keep it.

Yes. I heard it too. I turned to 6.1 Wilmington and they were better, but during the halftime show, they had popping noises in the audio. They no longer are offering Dolby 5.1 either. Can't win for losing around here...

I thought that popping noise would be the last gasps of Bruce Springsteen's fame. He had two good songs several decades ago. His interview was embarrassingly arrogant. Sadly, he didn't even do a good Springsteen (young and somewhat talented) impersonation.

How is that going to change if we don't get rid of the analogs?? They have NO CLUE what they vote for.

I just responded to someone on WITN site about digital TV. They say their 85 yr old isn't ready. Say they don't want to deal with them in Wal-Mart and they don't understand the whole process, and can't hook up the box. Why can't this person do it for them? Unbelievable.

Those of you with Directv can call and get your free upgrade to get transitioned to the single dish.

Call 888-763-7772 mentioned free 72 local swap.

I just called for my friend and they set up the exchange.

You have to watch them on this "free" swap. I called and got mine all set up for Feb. 11. When I logged online to pay my bill there was an extra $75 charge on there. I called Directv and the rep had to call in a supervisor to get the $75 charge removed from my bill.

I understand the competitive reasons, but not the reasons to delay for the first station. This timing of this move was horrible. Everyone that planned appropriately is suffering a financial hardship by the delay.

How many people that use broadcast television in this market will notice an announcement for the first time between now and June? Delaying will not make the process perfect, it will just get the problems over sooner. Especially in this market, the June window is much worse. The few people that have stubbornly refused to realize the transition is on the way will now be blacked out during hurricane season.

I think 7 & 9 have made a mistake by following 12. If they had gone ahead and shut analogue down, it would have put pressure on 12 to do the same. Instead, 12 put pressure on 7 & 9 and they fell for it. It may not matter though. President Obama still hasn't signed anything.

As for hurricane season, that presents a problem anyway, because it isn't exactly easy to get battery operated DTV's for power failures. Not to mention radio's that will tune a TV band. I am betting TV stations will rely on simulcasts from the big FM stations across the area.

Tornado season around here is pretty much now - May, but as we have seen can be an all year thing too. Summer they are certainly around, and cutting off in June is not all that smart. It would have been better to do it now while conditions are fairly tranquil. Just imagine the storm center saying on June 13, we expect a high risk of storms and possible Tornado's. Then people turn on TV and get noise and snow.

Does it matter at this point? How many of the stations can turn the ship around and turn off analog on the 17th if he doesn't? Allowing debate on this so late in the game shows how little they understand the effort required of stations. It seems fairly obvious that the majority of this in Congress never had to manage a large project.

By the way, the reason that there are so few battery-operated digital TVs is simple. Congress already delayed the conversion once. It hopes to again. What incentive did TV manufacturers have to start producing TVs with digital tuners if the date kept sliding?

They do what's in the interest of their "party." That's all there is to it. It's all political.

Stations can do whatever they want if they file for the silent STA and go through all the necessary messages to the public, and the FCC says it's in the public interest to terminate analog. If Obama doesn't sign the bill, then who knows what will happen.

Actually, I have seen both parties completely botch this up at different times. The fundamental issue is that the group lacks any real management experience. Some of us have worked with hardware changes that had to be done at hundreds or thousands of locations within a few hours. Those are not the type of deadlines you change with under two weeks notice...and succeed.

The reason the delay hasn't been signed into law is both political and financial. The money for the rest of the convertor box coupons is in the Stimulus package which they are fighting over right now. It is turning into just another item to try to get the Stimulus package passed. And that was my point. The reasoning behind the delay might have had some (though little) validity six months ago. Now it amounts to political grandstanding. It is too late to change it. All they have accomplished is making sure nothing can go smoothly. Good job: tell everyone it will fail on Feb 17 and you will make it so.

Those of you with a Directv HD DVR that wants WEPX 38.1 to show up on reciever, enter secondary local market zip code 24001 and it will allow you to see it on your system.
38.2 38.3 38.4 will not work.

We should have guide data for this channel soon. Then all channels will work.

If your DIRECTV HD reciever has a OTA tuner, go to
MENU> SETUP> SYSTEM SETUP> SAT & ANTENNA> ANTENNA SETUP> INITIAL SET UP> THEN ENTER ZIP CODE FOR PRIMARY MARKET> THEN ENTER SECONDARY MARKET ZIP.

This is for the newer H20/HR20 series or higher systems.

38.1 will work but other .2, .3, .4 will not. Correct channel info should soon be added.

CBS is the only station I'm getting in DD5.1/ Actually CSI is the only show I even notice it on because the intro is so cool.

I miss when Fox carried the NASCAR races in 5.1. I don't remember now when that was but I had just installed a HD receiver in my home theatre PC to get the local channels and the race commentary was very faint. I realized I had 5.1 selected but not 5.1 audio card so the next day I installed one and replayed the race and it was mind blowing. The commentary in the front center. cars racing around the back of the room. It was the reason I upgraded my system.
I know FOX Greenville went through a lot of technical problems with getting the signal to Greenville but they had a better quality video and audio feed before. The signal is stronger now and they don't drop shows like they used to-(remember House and American Idol-or the Super Bowl being dropped) but I wish they would bring back 5.1 Surround Sound!!!

Anyone know why Dish isn't delivering the locals in HD? Is this ever going to change?

And another thing to gripe is you can't get the program guide to record local channels and unless you pay them for the local feed. I don't mind that as much as the fact they list WFXI FOX 8 as my local channel instead of WYDO14 so I can't make scheduled recordings of the HD shows using the recorder they sold me.

I'm glad I still have the PC setup to record HD also.

There is supposed to be updated splicers coming out from the FOX network. I don't know if that will solve the local sound problem or not. I hope that when the new WYDO signal from Trenton goes on the air, that it will be sending Dolby 5.1 - I believe it will have more viewers than WFXI will at that time.

DIRECTV subs

Directv has NASCAR HOTPASS free this year to all subscribers, tune to channels 795, 796, 797, 798 for SD and HD.

This package is different than the last 2 years, it will not have dedicated announcers. What Im hearing is that it will be a in car view and a network feed on the screen. But will have network audio and a seperate in car crew audio by hitting the green button.

Also if you dont have WYDO 14 HD for some reason the national West coast feed is on ch 399.

399 is NOT going to be a sure thing every Sunday. I'd dare to say it is an experimental try-out from D* at best. To speculate otherwise it is definitely preposterous. WHY do I say that? Last season 399 aired a couple of NFL games as well. Let's assume it was D* mistake to throw that Freebie. The point is it might NOT happen again. When you get a Freebie like that WHY advertise it? As long as you don't tamper with the equipment in any way it is a Freebie and there isn't anything for you to worry about. We might NOT get any more Freebies b/c the cat is out of the bag and advertised. You'll be the judge; so long farewell...

You know I can't remember whether it was a blue or white FOX in the corner. What it looked like was that the receiver which supplies the Dish uplink was not set with the correct aspect ratio (or maybe not set to the right channel!). I experienced the same problem last night. At the beginning of BONES the video feed appeared to be regular HD but there was an audio problem...it was a constant clicking sound. I went to OTA and the picture was HD but there was a lot of pixelation and the signal strength was very erratic with numerous dropped signals. When I went back to DISH the video had black bars all around and if I recall correctly the FOX logo in the corner was the white one. I hope it improves before the race Sunday.

Ok. Last night I watched and everything was normal on 8.1, so whatever is going on must be a D* problem.

This is what Wiki says on FOX HD and ED.

Fox began broadcasting in HDTV in 720p on September 12, 2004 with a series of NFL football games. The network has no digital on-screen graphic logo in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen on the HD feed, except to identify programs presented in HD (although the SD feed does, and the only exception to where the Fox logo bug does appear on the HD feed is during live programming), allowing their local stations to use their own logo instead. In some cases the logo is placed outside the 4:3 safe area when displayed during network programs, out of view for those with 4:3 sets with digital receivers set in fullscreen mode.

Fox is the only commercial television network (broadcast, cable or satellite) to air programs in widescreen on its digital feed that are not available in HD; programs produced in this format were identified as being presented in "Fox High Resolution Widescreen" from 2001 to 2006, but these enhanced definition programs are currently not advertised by any name. Prior to the launch of its HD feed in 2004, some sitcoms and drama series were presented in this format, but now reality, talk, and game shows (American Idol being the lone exception, as it is presented in High Definition) are only presented in the enhanced definition widescreen mode. As of September 2008, only children's sports shows This Week in Baseball and NFL Under the Helmet are not seen in widescreen, while Sunday political talk program Fox News Sunday converted to the format when Fox News Channel launched their new HD facilities in November 2008. MADtv was produced to air only in 4:3 until September 2008, likely due to a mix of stations airing the show at differing times than the mandated 11pm timeslot and unable to offer it on the live air in 16:9, and the show's producers not making the switch to the format.

Since WYDO and WXFI OTA transmission is being received in HD (16:9 format ) I assume (not a good thing to do) that the source signal is ok. Maybe Dish hasn't put up the right antenna yet to receive WFXI's UHF signal. I remember a discussion about this before. Just a guess... IF they are trying to receive the signal with the VHF set-up, that could be what caused the pixelation you saw. As I said, WFXI OTA has been airing the HD and widescreen shows just fine. Also (I hope not) maybe D* doesn't have a retrans agreement yet for WFXI HD? Since I don't see any complaints about WCTI not being in HD, I kind of doubt the latter thought.

If Dish does not have the correct antenna in place could the initial transmission of Bones last Tuesday night been in HD? The first few minutes was, and a great picture, but the sound was a constant clicking noise. I changed to WYDO OTA and it was HD but I was getting a lousy signal. I went back to DISH and Bones was being shown in SD. It is all very puzzling to me.

That clicking doesn't seem like an antenna problem, but more so of an uplink issue of some sort. If they took down the HD feed, they must be aware of it. Some piece of equipment failed somewhere.

I called them about it (the jumpy picture) a couple of weeks ago and they said

her: "it couldn't possibly be our problem, we just broadast what we recieve from the local channel"
me: "then why is the picture fine when I get the same channel over the air with an antenna?"

Overall, the HD picture through D* seems to be more pixelated, more compressed looking than OTA. Especially college basketball on CBS.

Does anyone else watch Lost? WCTI preempts regular programming for Raycom ACC basketball, in last weeks case Lost. This is fine since they do end up broadcasting it in the middle of the night so I just DVR it.

However, there are two annoying problems:

1) The rebroadcast is not in HD. I assume this is because they don't have the equipment to record and play HD programming, just the ability to pass on the HD feed from the mothership. Which is too bad. I would think with the whole DTV switchover stations would just take the extra step and upgrade to HD while they're at it, because to stay competitive in the future they're going to have to anyway. For example, since I get WRAL via Suddenlink, if I happen to want to watch the 6pm news, I usually watch theirs since it's in HD over the more local news stations.

2) Last week's episode was cut off (last 5 minutes or show) by some late-night infomercial. Now this is really annoying.

Anyway these problems basically force me to watch the episode online. The quality on abc.com is decent, but not as good as the HD live broadcast. It's kind of nice to be able to watch a show in real HD when I've invested a bunch in my TV setup. Just wondering if anyone else noticed this.

Ken as always is on the job. Great work. If it wasn't for him, this problem more than likely still wouldn't be fixed for you guys. It's good to have an engineer for two stations right here with us.

Now probably no more excitement until June 12. (fingers crossed) & (knocking on wood) !! :)

I'm not saying it is fixed they have told me that before untill someone on here tells me it is I will not believe them

Can one of you guys look and see if it's fixed? Is there a way to zoom the picture with Dish Network's boxes? There should be some way I would think... Format button, resolution buttons or something. With D*'s box I have, you can push the 480, 720 or 1080 button on the box itself too. You would want to crop it, (squeeze the image) then you should see some black bars only on the sides.

I still hear a rapid pulsing like sound on both 8 and 12 when some commercials end. I occasionally see a "StormTrack 12" promo of some sort try to start up but quickly gets stopped too.

Ken or someone did fix the clock on FOX, I meant to mention that I saw it fixed a while back earlier.

I'll post tonight after I get home and can be sure. Ken, thanks for all your help, as a radio engineer-type guy, I know about all the bs people complain about (much of which is either not your fault or not your problem). Just imagine, everyone, if WCTI's parent company didn't buy the Fox cluster a couple of years ago. They might have never gone digital, HD or anything. Without them (and Ken, of course), we might all be watching snow on Fox

Speaking of radio, the stations around here are terrible anymore. The same old crap over and over. ERO, RNS, NCT, SFL need some different ideas, ERO needs to stop signing on with all these simulcasts. I about quit listening to radio after HOT FM and The Party gave up.

WRAL bought a lot of the stations in Wilmington from the group that owns WRNS, and they sound so much better to me. maybe they will rescue some of these in this area too.

I need to get an HD radio so I can hear what that sub station on SFL sounds like. Sirius XM isn't all that anymore either.

Yeah, but talk about hanging on by a thread.... I think there would have been an early analog transition to absolutely nothing on 8 and 14.

Anyway, hopefully Dish has their s- together and we can complain about something else soon---

Like the Lost rebroadcasts on WCTI in SD (I don't mind waiting a day and watching on my DVR, but I do love me the HD)

Thanks,

I just got hd radio about a week and a half ago... It's alright. None of the stations around here broadcast their call signs or artist/title information. At least not that I've seen so far. I have an IBOC radio (I refuse to call it by its misleading marketing name) and it's really not worth it. I bought my Sony because I wanted the amazing analog tuner that was in it.

At home, it gets me Radio IQ (NPR/BBC) which I like but otherwise IBOC is a waste that doesn't come in without lots of tweaking. The audio quality leaves a lot to be desired.

My girlfriends car has RDS or something in her Toyota that runs the station ID and some song titles. It works on 101/9 107/9 and 99/5 that I recall off the top of my head. You would think it would work for HD too.

You'd think so. Maybe I don't have the best tuner/stereo... I dunno. Cause I would have thought wral would be sending it w/101.5. Weird.

Ken, I'm sure you've got better things to do, but if you could PM a couple of us Dish customers with the phone number of a goddamn tech person (not the 800-333-dish number), I could babysit them on the phone after 8 PM.

Not that hard.......... I suppose it could be worse, we could let the FCC be in charge of the HD for satellite (not just the changeover to digital).

What I find unbelieveable is that when you complain in specific terms to Dish, they tell us (and Ken for that matter) that "Oh, yes, we agree, there is a problem" and then they either do nothing, hoping that somehow no one will care, OR they are simply amazingly incompetent. Then, when we call back (and Ken calls back on our behalf), instead of saying, "Yeah, you know, I don't know what I'm doing, I'm going to find someone who can help (or fix it)", they just lie and either say it IS fixed, or again "Oh yeah, you know NOW we understand it and NOW it IS fixed". 106.5, 100.7 and 107.9 all broadcast Artist and Song data via RDS. I'm using a Sangean HDT-1 component receiver in the house and a JVC KH-HDR1 radio in my Mustang. If the station is not broadscasting RDS then it doesn't matter how good or bad your radio is, it's not going to display the data. A station doesn't have to be HD to send RDS.

I actually got my HD radios for the increased fidelity. The difference between HD and regular radio is like the difference between a CD/MP3 player and a cassette tape.

That's one of those stations that I can drive from here to Fayetteville or Raleigh and never lose, along with all the big ones down east. I can't listen to stations in Fayetteville all the way back here though. Only Raleigh and ENC have the towers to make it this distance. Wilmington doesn't have any long distance one's either. WRVA is clear in any direction outside the city limits here, and works fine on a stationary radio. If they had a better format, they could draw a lot more listeners. I don't think I know of a station with a signal range like theirs.

100.7C has a massive signal. I'm not sure what makes them so much more powerful than other stations like the Garner ones (unless it just appears that way due to the location), but it's really intense.

Shame they flipped it from Oldies to... whatever generic stuff is on there now. I miss WTRG.

Yea, they use the white logo sometimes. It depends on the networks decision. On most shows they let the locals watermark inserted into the splicer take care of it. I think they are going to change the position of the local watermark with the next splicer upgrade, or either do away with it... Can't remember which... (from what I read in the programmming section)

This is an example of what should be where the big blue FOX logo is on local fox stations...
