dsmith901 10-20-06, 10:29 AM No WFXU and you could not get WFXU in Tallahassee when it was on.
As for Comcast they get a direct Fiber. I am working with there Eng. to make sure the signal we give them stays the same after the fiber haul.
as for time I have been sick and drop outs and guild info are on my list but getting better falls above both.
Thanks for the information, and I hope you get well soon.
As for the CW feed to Comcast being on fiber, well that just makes this whole thing even more mysterious. Assuming the fiber feed is clean, I can only assume that the source format is originally analog, and of very low quality, converted to digital (and then back to analog for the low end of the Comcast lineup). But the same is true for other analog channels and none of them look as bad as CW, so something else is at work here. I understand WTLH HD is your priority right now, but please make management aware of the CW problem and get it fixed as soon as you can. Thanks again.
Does anyone have WTXL (ABC) contact info? I want to find out why they are showing the Iowa vs Michigan game instead of the FSU vs BC game.
richall01 10-22-06, 12:08 AM Because it's a network game.
CMTally 10-22-06, 11:54 AM CMTally,
I'm curious about the question that came up a week or two back about syndicated fare (i.e. Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy!) in HD. With so many shows that were shot in HD now in syndication (CSI and Alias, for example), we were wondering why a brand new studio can't transmit syndicated HD material. Is it a storage issue?
We're equipped to pass CBS signal through in HD. We're not currently able to do so with syndicated programming.

houselog442 10-22-06, 05:25 PM I applaud WCTV for dumping the puky jacksonville vs houston game and giving us the awsome atlanta vs pittsburg shootout. Still it doesnt beat the miricle at tampa bay, 62 yard field goal!
dsmith901 10-23-06, 06:42 PM Does anyone have WTXL (ABC) contact info? I want to find out why they are showing the Iowa vs Michigan game instead of the FSU vs BC game.
Because for now WTXL network sourcing is controlled by a crew of semi-trained monkeys in Little Rock, AK. Someone forgot to feed them their bananas and they rebelled by failing to plug in the FSU/BC game.
PBSengineer 10-24-06, 09:24 AM Apparently, ABC remotely controls the sat receiver at the stations (or in this case Little Rock). ABC correctly sent the command to the receiver to change to the proper transponder to get the FSU game. The receiver was in local, not remote, so it did not change. WTXL called immediately, but it took over an hour for Little Rock to get an engineer called out (the untrained weekend monkeys probably don't yet know how to use a phone)
Note 1: the feeds to the president's box and the press boxes come from Comcast from WTXL, not the truck, so TK saw what we saw.
Note 2: Actually, the Noles weren't doing badly until WTXL started showing the game.
dsmith901 10-24-06, 09:53 AM I watched "Heroes" last night on Comcast (NBC) and it was ruined by constant freezes, hiccups, and lost audio. I have not seen that on NBC Comcast for a long time. Anyone know what the hell happened? BTW, 'Heroes" is a great show, IMO.
rcspick 10-24-06, 11:08 AM FWIW, after Heroes I switched to CBS and experienced the same problems. So, I think it was probably a Comcast issue this time.
NeonDeion 10-24-06, 11:20 AM I thought it was a DVR problem, as I watched it from there. I did switch over to the non-HD version at one point, and there were no such hiccups.

I had the same exact problem on NBC-HD but I didn't have the problem on ShowHD when my TiVo picked up Weeds. I had switch back to my old TiVo and watch it in SD :(
I can't remember going a full week without having NBC-HD on Comcast fracked up. and I've had HD for well over a year now.
dsmith901 10-24-06, 03:34 PM Apart from the fact that it is a bummer to watch a show in SD when HD is available, I had it recorded and could not switch to SD. I have a HDD DVD recorder that I have now set to record the show on the analog channel in the future, just as backup.

Due to the fact that I watch this show with other family members, I record it in SD, and not HD. However, DirecTV doesn't offer local channels here, so I use my Stand-Alone TiVo to record it on Monday night, and then I record it in SD on the SciFi Channel via DirecTV at 7:00 P.M. on Friday nights.
Here's hoping for a HD DVD release next year...

ZipperSeven 10-24-06, 06:34 PM I think it's pretty much just the HD feed from WTWC. None of the other HD channels have *consistent* problems on Comcast like they do. We taped Studio 60 last night and it's basically unwatchable. The other night when we watched Heroes we swapped over at the first commercial to the analog feed because it was chopping up so much, you couldnt even read closed captioning to read what you couldnt hear.
All in all pretty poor.
At least we can watch NBC shows streamed online....

I have contacted several people in the last few months trying to get DirecTV to add guide data for several local channels (WALB-DT2, WSST-DT2, WSWG-DT, WSWG-DT2, WTXL-DT2, and WTLH-DT2), but so far no replies. Maybe somebody listened about at least one of these channels...
DirecTV's guide data for WTXL-DT2 is unrelated to WTXL-DT's HD feed.

dsmith901 10-25-06, 11:08 AM I get WTWC OTA and it's by far the most stable local HD OTA I get.
If that is true then it would seem Comcast is doing something wrong in their end. Do they get it OTA? If so maybe their antenna is misaligned or moving in the wind? Has anyone called WTWC to complain?

I checked out what you are talking about on my DirecTV HD-TiVo when I got home, and noticed this as well... but unfortunately, WTXL-DT2 is remapped to 27-1 on the HD-TiVo... so now I have guide information showing up on TWO 27-1 channels. One for WTXL-DT on 27-1, and one for WTXL-DT2 on 27-1.
PBSEngineer, you might want to tell WTXL-DT about this problem on DirecTV receivers (if they will listen).
Also to anyone out there listening, WSWG-DT (44-1) is still missing and WSWG-DT2 guide information is there, but takes you to digital channel 44 instead of digital channel 43.
Guide information is still unavailable for WTLH-DT2 (49-2), but at least WTLH-DT has an excuse. Hope you feel better soon WTLHFOXHD!!

This morning I was getting Fox ota digitally. My directivo indicated a signal strength in the 80-90 range. Previously, I had not been getting any signal from that channel. Are they on at full strength now? in HD?

I haven't yet, but I will next time I a problem (not sure what I've got coming up on NBC.) When I change channels to watch on a normal basis, it doesnt happen. It only really seems to happen on prime time programs that *I want to watch.*
When I called Comcast last time I got really upset, I spoke to a tech at the local office that said that it was a problem with the local feed. Whether that was runaround/BS response or not, I dont know.
The problem is that I live in a rental townhouse, with a lease and a local covenant (homeowners assc.) that forbids external antennas, and all the guides I've read said I'd pretty much need one to get OTA WTWC. That and I couldn't DVR it. I tried to get the g/f to let me spring for one of those Miglia tuners for my Macbook Pro but she wouldn't have any of that. =(

Yes they must be back at full strength. I have to turn off my signal booster to keep it from breaking up every 1 to 2 minutes. I need it on to even get a signal from WCTV, WTWC and WTXL. I get a 60 to 70 signal with no booster on WTLH but the picture is much more stable than it is when its on. When there is HD on and its no breaking up it looks good.

I don't know if you want to fight the battle, but these restrictions likely violate federal law and are unenforceable. See link:

dsmith901 10-27-06, 10:53 AM And now on Thursday night CW on Comcast is breaking up (Smallville), apparently from low bandwidth (I see pixelization). This seems to confirm my suspicion that FOX prime (WTLH) is hogging bandwidth from CW. WTF!
Trek2000 10-27-06, 10:08 PM WTXL ran part of Men in Trees in HD. I hope they can do it for all of Lost next Week.
Trek2000 10-28-06, 01:01 PM The Oklahoma / Missouri game is on in HD on WTXL. Well at least the first half.
PBSengineer 10-30-06, 08:33 AM I'm told that the problems have been fixed; so, in theory, HD should happen. Problem is that Little Rock has to switch it correctly and we have seen how poorly they do. This am, they had the test pattern up, but last night "Desperated Housewives" was in HD. Most (but not all) of the Miami/Ga Tech game Saturday was in HD.
rrmcdonald 10-30-06, 09:13 AM That's good news on WTXL! Is this Comcast only or also OTA? (and, if OTA, does anyone know of the frequency assigned? Is it 27 or is it another?)
PBSengineer 10-30-06, 09:30 AM WTXL HD is currently only OTA. Channel 22. I think they are waiting until it really works before they have Comcast make 231 OTA. Currently 231 is off the bird from Little Rock.
rrmcdonald 10-30-06, 09:35 AM Thanks!
Trek2000 10-30-06, 09:44 AM The broadcast channel for WTXL is 22 but it's mapped correctly and I get it at 27-1 OTA on my DISH 622.
dsmith901 10-30-06, 11:09 AM I spoke today with John Clark, the engineer at WTXL, and he says they have everything in place for HD broadcasting OTA and Comcast, but until they get their new station up in 6-8 months they have to rely on the semi-comatose (my words) staff at Little Rock. An automatic switch is supposed to be handling the SD-HD switching but for some reason LR can't seem to even work that right or something. Anyway, he said he hopes they can get HD on Comcast very soon. He said the new station will be all-digital with audio in DD 5.1 (yay!).

As I stated in a previous post, DirecTV now has guide information for WTXL-DT2 on DirecTV HD receivers. Only problem is that DirecTV remaps WTXL-DT2 to 27-1 instead of 27-2... so I have TWO 27-1 channels on my DirecTV guide.
I was hoping that PBSEngineer could mention this to the people at WTXL, but if he can't, I guess I will try and contact them... although given my luck and getting channel information corrected, I imagine he would have better luck...

After receiving WTLH-DT FOX 49.1, briefly OTA with rabbit ears on 10/11/2006, I got so excited I went out and purchased a Channel Master 3018 antenna. Now my excitement has waned as the WTLH-DT signal here in Valdosta, thus far, has proved to be unsatisfactory. I get 51+ signal for short periods followed by total drop out. In comparison, I get WCTV-DT CBS 6.1 at 80-85 and rock steady. Also WTWC-DT NBC at 60-65 with only occasional audio hiccups, video steady. WSWG-DT CBS comes in rock steady if I choose to reorient the antenna, which I don’t as it is a lousy dup of WCTV-DT minus HD. I have tried to follow the saga of the FOX installation as narrated by WTLHFOX but now that he is ill I am confused as to the future status. Is this it? No further improvement? Does anyone but me find it strange that only one person (WTLHFOXHD) seems to be working on the problem. Surely the station can afford an assistant or sub out the problem. When I lived in Jacksonville, a FOX team was dispatched (from FOX National) to install all digital equipment and verify its correct operation. They may not have had to install a new broadcast tower however. They were the first (in JAX) with HD and 5.1 audio as I remember.

I get a 70-90 signal here! However, whenever I try to record WTLH-DT2, I get drop-outs. For instance, I have a manual recording set up for "Gilmore Girls" and "Veronica Mars" every Tuesday night. GG recorded 45 minutes (missing some of the middle), but VM recorded all but one minute. This is a common occurence, as I've had episodes that recorded the whole thing, but most of the time, I get break-ups.
WSWG-DT CBS comes in rock steady if I choose to reorient the antenna, which I don’t as it is a lousy dup of WCTV-DT minus HD.
The couple of times I managed to pick up WSWG-DT, they were in HD!!

The FOX people came from the network to and explain the use, and verify the operation of the splicer. They did that for my local FOX as well, and I'm pretty sure the same happened for WTLH-DT, but WTLH-DT has had the splicer for some time. The issue this time is the broadcasting tower which has nothing to do with the FOX network, and is an issue for the station itself.

GraysonPeddie 11-01-06, 05:12 PM Hi. I wonder if I can post this here?
I'd like to get a Samsung DTB-H260F from Best Buy and I'm trying to contact my local Best Buy retailer.
Because I'm hearing impaired, I had to use a relay service (I use My IP-Relay (www.ip-relay.com) through AOL Instant Messenger) but it took me a lot of patience trying to get to the representitive and I just hung up.
I know my question is off-topic but I'd thought I'll ask: how do I get to Best Buy using a StarMetro bus system? Because I can't drive a car, I had to take a bus (I know cab an alternative to the bus system but bus is cheaper for me).

GraysonPeddie 11-01-06, 09:43 PM OK thanks.
As for my HD digital cable, since I have my Closed Caption turned on for DVI (you have to turn off your cable box, go to menu, and enable closed caption), I get a whole black box, as it looks to me it's used by European countries that uses Teletext. To make it disappear, I have to change the channel and back to the channel I'm watching. The firmware in my DCT6200 (if I remember the model number correctly) is 16.20 and the software version is 74.35 - 3321. How could I get a big black box that covers up almost the whole screen? CC1 has already been selected for analog mode...

Only NBC does that, all others are constant between two tuners.

I agree completely with your assessment, Ross. The situation with WTLH-DT is ridiculous. The drop out issue has been constant for nearly a month (approximately 24 days). I find it hard to believe that the station has no contingency plan. They apparently don't care. I have never known of any major business to stop operations or repairs because one of the employees was ill. This station seems to be plagued with constant problems, such as the satellite feed PQ isssue as well as the failure/discontinuation of analog channel 57. Any time someone has tried to bring these problems to light, the reaction has been less than gracious to say the least. No one is getting there money's worth with WTLH, whether it be the viewer or the advertiser. This station has traditionally been near the bottom of the Arbitron ratings in the Tallahassee area. I think it is easy to see why. I would love to see this station improve and succeed, as there is certain FOX and CW programming I would like to watch. Come on WTLH-DT and prove my assessment wrong! Turn this jalopy into a Cadillac.

I mentioned this once before, but DirecTV is still using incorrect guide information for WSWG-DT and WSWG-DT2.
WSWG-DT is not listed at all.
WSWG-DT2 is listed as 44-2, but tries to tune in WSWG-DT2 on digital channel #44 instead of #43.
If you talk to the people at Tribune, please tell them that there are channels in the Tallahassee, FL DMA and the Albany, GA DMA that has wrong information as well, and maybe they might contact the stations to correct that... or if you could find out an E-Mail address for me to contact them with this problem.
WTLH-DT2 has no guide information.
WXTL-DT2 is remapped to 27-1, thereby tuning in WTXL-DT's HD feed instead of the SD feed.
WALB-DT2 (Albany) has no guide information.
WSST-DT (Albany) has no guide information.

DavidML3 11-06-06, 09:57 AM What is wrong with HD here in Tallahassee?
Games or programs that should be hd are left in standard def throughout the entire program. Why not just leave the HD switch on so when the broadcast returns from commercials it goes back into HD.
Also what is the deal with NBC here in tallahassee? Notre Dame nor the Sunday night football was in HD
dsmith901 11-06-06, 10:02 AM It is ironic that as more and more people get HDTVs in Tallahassee the local HD broadcasting gets worse and worse.

I'd say you have a hardware problem. WTWC/NBC doesn't know or change anything when you change tuners. Possibly a less than tight connection to your box, or possibly something inherent in the 2nd tuner that makes it less sensitive to that very low VHF signal (which I believe will be changing at some time, but I don't know when). Have you checked the forums that specifically discuss your receiver?

I have the same issues that he does on ALL my digital channels. The first tuner can be solid, but the second tuner fluctuates. I don't really have that much of an issue with it, so I've never really tried figuring it out. Depending on the strength of the signal, it's usually only drops around 5-10 on the signal meter.

The thing is that mine does not do it for all channels like yours. Just the NBC(VHF) one.
Let me see what happens.
For the time being, I just have to try setting first tuner to 40-1 before recording time.
dsmith901 11-07-06, 09:45 AM Well, I called the WTLH (FOX) station to complain about the CW signal via Comcast and asked for the head engineer Mike Brown. But someone else answered and it turned out to be our good friend WTLHFOXHD, whose real name I will not divulge without his okay. "W" was very friendly and pretty quickly recognized me as a poster here - he even guessed my forum name (am I that transparent? LOL). We had a long and informative talk, a good bit of it over my head, as to what technical problems WTLH and CW are having and what he wants to do to fix the problems - if managment goes along. He even gave some insight into WTXL's problems and what their new engineer John Clark hopes to accomplish. As to the CW problem on Comcast ch 6 he is planning to try something later this week and I gave him my home phone number to call for my feedback, since he does not get Comcast where he lives.
"W" advised that CW "could" go HD IF the CW network heads would allow the HD signal to be made available to Tallahassee, and if a few technical workarounds were done, which he did not consider a big deal. He suggested we send emails to WTLH managment requesting CW in HD and perhaps they will pass on consumer interest to CW network HQ. I plan to do just that, and I encourage everyone here to do the same.

If WTLHFOXHD is still reading this board, PLEASE contact Tribune Media Services about 49-2. My "Now Playing List" on my HD-TiVo is getting filled with manual recordings from 49-2, and I'd really like to have guide information.
After my visit with "W" it was clear to me that most of our local problems are just the result of poor network and station management and planning, not to mention cheapness on their part. Maybe if we put enough heat on station/network managers they will get the message that WE WANT OUR HD, DAMMIT!!!!
WTLHFOXHD does NOT approve this message!! ;)

What is wrong with HD here in Tallahassee?
Games or programs that should be hd are left in standard def throughout the entire program. Why not just leave the HD switch on so when the broadcast returns from commercials it goes back into HD.
Also what is the deal with NBC here in tallahassee? Notre Dame nor the Sunday night football was in HD
Yeah. It seems that either WTWC can't keep a stable HD feed running (over Comcast at least) as I saw last week with Heroes et al., or they just leave it in SD mode (as I saw earlier in the week.) My g/f said that Las Vegas on the Comcast HD channel taped in SD as well.
Maybe I'm oversimplifying things here, but how hard is it really to flip a switch?
Anyone know what is going on with NBC? During commercial I'm in analog that is being shown in what appears to be a 480i 4:3. But when it goes back to the programing, I am getting a 16:9 image that is in a smaller rectangular box within my screen. It is not a screen size selection on my tv, as all my other HD channels appear full screen 16:9. What's going on there?

What you are seeing is an SD letterbox view of a 16:9 broadcast in a 4:3 format. It is not caused by your TV. NBC has been broadcasting a lot of their SD programming in the letterbox format for a while. Even though the signal is still digital, it is not HD, hence the pillar bars on the side.

But the original programming is HD, and for some reason the local station is broadcasting it in SD 4:3 format, hence the black bars on all sides. The PQ is better than vanilla SD, but the smaller image and loss of full resolution is frustrating. AFAIK it is a local station issue (again).
Meanwhile, I have emailed the manager at WTLH and requested he push for the CW HD signal to be made available locally and work with his staff to make it on the air and to Comcast. Those of you who share my desire for this service please do the same. If enough of us demand CW in HD we might just get it.

I called WTWC on Tuesday to ask what was going on with the HD, since it had been out since Sunday. I can't remember who I talked to but he said HD has actually been down since last Friday. I think he said some kind of reciever was broken and it was sent out for repair. He did say they hope to have it back by Thursday so the and be up that same day, but I would not be surprised if it took longer. They are aware of the problem though, I just hope HD is back Monday for Heroes.

No, the OTA signal is still dropping out on WTLH-DT as of this morning.

I have checked it out on BOTH of my DirecTV receivers (as well as www.zap2it.com and TiVo.com), and still no guide data for WLTH-DT2. Did he mean lunch, his time?
Also, after we spoke yesterday, I tried to PM you to tell you that I meant to mention that Tribune is also still providing guide data for WFXU to TiVo (www.zap2it.com still lists it as well), so that's something that you might want to correct.
Another thing to mention is that WTLF-DT is correct in that it does not list shows as being in HD. However, most of the time (WCTV-DT2, WXTL-DT2 and WSWG-DT2 for instance), they mark network digital channels as HD even if they are a sub-channel, so you might want to mention that only 49-1 is HD, and 49-2 (WTLH-DT2) is SD.
Thanks!

dsmith901 11-13-06, 10:16 AM WTLHFOXHD,
I don't know if you did anything to help the CW channel on Comcast, but the PQ was definitely improved Thursday night. It is still not as good as it should be, IMO, but it was a much cleaner signal, though I think I recall still a few dropouts. Hopefully it was not just a concidence but the PQ has been up and down before. Did you make the fix you mentioned to me earlier in the week? BTW I have not mentioned this before to you but there is an audible hum on the audio portion of CW that has been there for months. It is part of the signal because when I hit "mute" it goes away, and is not on any other channel. When you get a chance I would appreciate anything you can do to clean up the CW audio noise. Thanks.
FOX (Comcast) on Friday night (Vegas) was a mess - started out in 4:3 then the HD tried to kick in about half way through. Audio was likewise a mess, with some strange high frequency noises being emitted for a few seconds. I finally switched to the analog sound feed.

Actually it's the sound that would normally out of the surround sound speakers. If someone speaks in a building or some other place where there is reverberation or an echo you can hear them talking.
houselog442 11-13-06, 11:28 PM Yes, more problems from the great tv market that is tallahassee. The raw ABC HD feed has problems with its 5.1 channel system, screwing up all the regular audio that is on there when they show programs with 5.1 surround sound. Than the NBC affiliate WTWC has not had HD up in over a week and a half and was supposedly going to be back on by last thursday, what a suprise, they didnt! And WTLH still has problems with its microwave transmitter that causes the channel to go out every few minutes, and that still hasnt been fixed as of sunday. Yes, "Heroes" was screwed up badly last night. It was broadcast as widescreen in 4:3 format but at least it was watchable and audio was okay. Then it was like someone tried to switch it to HD and all hell broke loose - the picture breaks up and audio disappears. This occurred several time (Comcast) before they apparently gave up and left it in the SD mode.

Latley, I have been leaving the HD signal up for testing, but over the air only. Comcast and CNS are taking our 27.2 signal until the HD switch is proven fixed... Sorry cable guys.
Today, I put in a new receiver and a new GPI control that should give our Master control (in Little Rock, AK) the ability to switch HD on and off. It works. (on my end, at least!) Now, as long as the MC op puts the correct info in, it should switch automaticly.
So tonight is the big night.. Will it work? place your bets now! Those of you who have HD antennas pointed our way, tell me what you see tonight.
as for the Audio problem: I have no idea what is going on. For those of you with a 5.1 setup, are you getting full 5.1 (when it works) or just stereo? I have not yet traced the problem that seems to be Surround L-R coming through the main channels. Let me know more on this if you can.

Hey John, I've been getting on to WTLHFOXHD about getting DirecTV guide information corrected for WTLH-DT2, and hopefully it will be corrected later this week.
However, DirecTV started displaying guide information for WTXL-DT2 during the last month or two, but unfortunately, they list it as 27-1 just like they do WTXL-DT meaing that we now have two choices of "27-1" in the guide. One of them listed as "WTXL-DT" and the other as "WTXL-DT2". However, if someone wanted to watch WTXL-DT2, hitting the channel automatically takes you to WTXL-DT.
Please contact Tribune for those of us with DirecTV (or those with TiVo Series 3), and get them to put WTXL-DT2 on "27-2".

Hey, I get the raw ABC feed of WTXL over the air and here is what the problem I and others are getting. I do not have any stereo system or anything like that at all. Just a regular HDTV with an audio system that is normal. The problem is the HD channel is having a problem properly putting audio out during programs that are broadcasting in 5.1 channel to regular tv's that have no 5.1 channel set up. Programs on the channel that broadcast in regular 2 channel stereo operate fine (like Dancing with the Stars, football games, and HD commercials) One of the test feeds that is on the raw ABC channel shows a video of the space shuttle launching, but the sound has a guy saying "track identification" He will go through the whole channels, but I cannot hear the certain parts. When I watch an HD show like Lost I can hear the background music but I cannot hear the dialog. I hope that explains the problems I, and others have been having. Thank you.

John, thanks for doing all you can for the ABC viewers in this area. BTW, even when ABC was in HD I never got anything but 2.0 for audio, which is okay as long as it is working properly.
My question is will we have to wait until the new station is up and running to get WTXL in HD on Comcast? Or will the new receiver make it possible to do that sooner? Thanks.
dsmith901 11-16-06, 09:19 AM I was happy to find "Medium" (WTWC - Comcast) switching to HD early in the program, and the audio was 5.1 as well. I don't mind not getting HD as long as I can still watch the show. There's a local affiliate here that messes up the feed so much that it's hard to keep track of what's going on (cough cough, I'm looking @ you WTWC.)
It may be only a digital feed but at least it doesn't drop out every 10 seconds, with audio all out of sync and what not.
Alan Gordon 11-16-06, 02:15 PM Thanks! I wrote an E-Mail to someone at Tribune last night to try and get some other stations' guide information straightened out... still haven't received a reply back yet... wonder if I will?!
I sent the E-Mail out almost a month ago, but I finally received a reply back today from a Kelly Garrett at Tribune asking me what was missing/incorrect. He said that he would then investigate.
I informed him of the issues with WALB-DT2, WXTL-DT2, WSWG-DT, WSWG-DT2, WTLH-DT2 and WSST-DT... as well as the MyNetworkTV programming on WCTV-DT2 listed as HD when it's not. Me too on no ABC OTA in Valdosta. However, I do get FOX WTLH-DT, NBC WTWC-DT, and CBS WCTV-DT using a CM 3018 mounted in the attic. Both FOX and NBC have "low" signal strength but do work, not withstanding the FOX "micro wave" problem which may now be fixed. CBS is 80-90 usually no problems unless it storms. I was considering switching to a DB8 but your experience has jolted my thinking. Do you have obstructions or other problems to deal with ( as it pertains to DT reception)?

Sorry, I am not in charge of waivers...
jrcstudios 11-17-06, 09:16 AM John, thanks for doing all you can for the ABC viewers in this area. BTW, even when ABC was in HD I never got anything but 2.0 for audio, which is okay as long as it is working properly.
My question is will we have to wait until the new station is up and running to get WTXL in HD on Comcast? Or will the new receiver make it possible to do that sooner? Thanks.
The HD will be avaliable on Comcast later today (Friday)
Hopefully, they won't have the audio problem so many are experiencing.

jrcstudios 11-17-06, 09:20 AM Hey jrcstudios. When is WTXL going to go full power, I am in Adel and most of the time cannot receive it.
Sorry, no plans to increase power at this time. We are going back to our original channel (27 instead of 22) when the analog shutdown happens, so I doubt we will be full power until then.

jrcstudios 11-17-06, 09:37 AM Attention Grey's Anatomy fans...
I will be at the transmitter tonight to work with the sound if it has problems.
If you are archiving/recording it, I suggest you run a backup off of the SD channel.
Comcast should have our HD signal up by then as well. They have been taking our standard def (27.2) signal by my request while we battled with the HD to SD switching which seems to be working now.
I will be monitoring this forum for any problems while I am there.
see ya...

Thank you for you efforts and we appreciate you allowing us to vent our frustrations. You do realize that South & Southwest Georgia households are segments of your viewing area that your digital signal is underserving because you are not transmitting at full power. Then to add insult to injury, the satellite providers reject our waivers for distant ABC network programming. HDTV sets are sold daily in our area and yet, we do not have a reliable OTA digital signal to allow us to enjoy the ABC programming in HD or even SD! I really don't look forward to tomorrow's Michigan/OSU game in analog! Is there someone we can contact either at your station, the station's holding company, or even ABC who can help us with these frustrations. Thanks.

If you feel that the signal in your area is below that of the standard, you should challenge the denied wavier. At another station, I was the station rep at a few wavier signal tests that ended in the viewer's favor. I can not give you advise on who to talk to or what to do other than that, as I don't want to start giving legal advise. Also, if you do talk to upper management, kindly leave my name out of it!

I have tried to challenge the Waiver by asking my satellite provide for a Signal Strength test. They have stated that since their signal is digitaly sent (even though it is not HD). That the affiliate will not allow the test. They stated that that is their (the local stations) way around the law for signal strenghth tests.
The other question Iwould have is when they you plan to offer HD locals From Tallahasse through satellite providers?
Alan Gordon 11-17-06, 04:33 PM The other question Iwould have is when they you plan to offer HD locals From Tallahasse through satellite providers?
DirecTV should have locals available in 67 DMAs by year's end. One DMA, Reno is DMA #110, and Tallahassee, FL is DMA #108. I'd expect Tallahassee, FL to be available in HD via DirecTV by next Fall at the latest...
Dish Network however has no intentions to offer HD locals to Tallahassee, FL as they have stated that it is not feasible for them to offer HD locals outside the top 50 DMAs. They have stated the 50 DMAs that they intend to offer, and while some of them are outside the top 50 DMAs, Tallahassee, FL is not one of them. I expect over the next five years, they may have to rethink their plan, but don't expect Tallahassee, FL HD-LIL from them anytime soon.

How about Valdosta Medicom cable? Are you going to send your signal through them? I assume since we are in your "DMA" and your advertising revenue is tied in somehow, you should feed it to our cable.
sbturner 11-19-06, 01:00 AM I was able to watch Cal-USC in HD tonight getting it OTA in Adel. Wow did it look good. I got 58-62 readings which is just enough to get a picture. Man I wish I could get it all the time. Come on WTXL go full power!

It seems that everone from Comcast was off work early on Friday except two people that had their hands full. If our HD is not on Comcast tonight, I would like to know about it.
ZipperSeven 11-20-06, 06:36 PM Hey guys....anybody else notice a periodic 'jitter' (for lack of a better word) on the HD channels on Comcast?
I noticed it, specifically, on InHD and Discovery HD. Every three seconds or so, a small blip jitter. The screen almost bounces.
I know it's not just my box, as my friend just got a new 6412 over the weekend and his does *the same thing*
So do we both have bogus boxes or is Comcast actually having an issue with their feed?

Just a clarification... The satellite providers have absolutely no say in the granting/rejection of waivers. The local affiliates are granted virtual God status over who can see what in their 'coverage' areas. They -in effect- own your eyeballs and have done a very good job legislatively to protect their property.
Fox (in this market as far as I know) is the only Network with the foresight, compassion and good business sense to grant waivers to folks who can not otherwise get a good signal. They understand that this position will gain the good will that will attract viewers if/when they can receive a signal. I applaud Fox for their position and actively reject viewing programming from those who can't see beyond their own noses.
I'd suggest a dailiy e-mail/letter writing/faxing campaign to the upper management of the local affiliate with a cc to your congressman. :D

Ross Moody 11-21-06, 10:56 AM WTLH-DT seems to be working here in Valdosta. I just watched 30 minutes O/A 3PM today (with my toes crossed) and no drop outs! Hope the chewing gum or whatever you used to get results, remains tacky. Do not watch CW so have no cmt.
Well to quote myself, WHLH-DT FOX seems NOT to be working properly today (11/21/06,as of 1030 hours). Back to the drop outs, signal 0-70. Guess the chewing gum or whatever got hard in the wind and cold??? Its hard to develop viewing loyalty to a station that cannot consistently deliver the goods. :(
I did mis-speak regarding the waiver issue to an extent...my problem here in SW GA involved 2 overlapping DMAs in the waiver process. The ABC affiliate in one DMA approved the waiver, the ABC in the other DMA did not respond. Therefore, DISH did not initially approve. Apparently, I got through to them or badgered them until they provided an ABC distant network signal...New York! Never satisfied, I'm trying to get an ABC HD-LIL signal or another ABC-HD distant network signal until WTXL goes to full power. Then I should be able to get ABC OTA. KY

Which affiliate did you badger? Would you share the information? I tried calling and emailing my affiliates. They do not respond. And when I call, they just say that they will not grant and will only go full power in 2009 when they are forced to by the FCC and that until then they will stay the way they are. This came from two chief engineers from local stations. One from Tallahassee and the other from Albany.
Alan Gordon 11-22-06, 02:32 PM I sent the E-Mail out almost a month ago, but I finally received a reply back today from a Kelly Garrett at Tribune asking me what was missing/incorrect.
I informed him of WTLHFOXHD contacting Tribune and being told that WTLH-DT2 guide information would be corrected before the week's out, and that it still isn't up.
Well, since none of the other stations I informed him of are up, it was obviously a delayed effect from WTLHFOXHD's call, but guide information from WTLH-DT2 is now up on my HR10-250, and my Season Passes are already made.
Please note that this information still hasn't been updated for Zap2it.com, or on TiVo Series 3 yet according to TiVo.com, and TiVo and Zap2it.com still lists WFXU as a channel.

jmb04law 11-22-06, 09:04 PM Is anyone else having problems with the HD channels on Comcast? Every single HD station has a letterbox thing going on with the black strip on the top and bottom of the screen. When I switch to a SD station it goes back to full screen.
I unplugged and reconnected my DVI cable and even hooked it up component to make sure it wasn't anything with the DVI cable. I also reset my cable box, but it still has that letter box deal. I also started up my Xbox 360 and it was in full screen 1080i. So I'm thinking it must be on Comcast's end. Just wanted to see if anyone else was experiencing this problem or if it is only on my end. Thanks!

I just checked my channels they all look fine, and I also checked my recordings of Jericho and CSI:NY and they were also full screen HD. Maybe your box is bad. FYI, I am using compontent cables for my connection.
jmb04law 11-23-06, 01:32 AM That's what I'm leaning towards. HD programs I recorded before this happened are having the same problem. When I change the aspect of my TV from Full to Cinema it lines up perfectly. I've changed every setting I could find on my TV and nothing worked. I don't think it is the TV though because it doesn't do it with the Xbox 360. I don't think it a problem with the DVI cable or port because the problem is there when I hook it up component too. So that pretty much leaves the box. Thanks for the help.
jmb04law 11-23-06, 01:54 AM It's a Thanksgiving Day Miracle! I fixed it! Somehow between me turning the box off last night and turning it on this evening the box reset itself to 4:3L. What made me hold the power and menu button down at the same time I will never know, but that allowed me to change it 16:9.
I have no idea how the setting was changed. If it takes holding down two buttons at the same time to change it, I think doing it by accident would be next to impossible. Crazy stuff.
Thanks for your help. Have a Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Ditto. First half seemed great. Half time: time for the idiot talking heads. NO wait, a halftime show gather around. This might actually be entertaining. BANG there went the signal back to ZERO. No pic no sound. Consistency-Consistency. FOX let us down consistently again. When can we ever expect a consistent signal without drop outs?? :(

I TiVo'ed "Smallville" and "Supernatural" last night on WTLH-DT2, and came home to find that less than 20 minutes recorded of each show.
Hopefully this will be fixed fast...

Mike Plummer at WTXL was sympathetic to my plight regarding the overlapping DMA coverages. He provided a letter approving the receipt of his station's programming which I faxed to DISH Network. The ABC affiliate in Columbus, GA, WTVM which is the designated in my DMA as SV, did not respond to any waiver requests. Therefore, under SHEVA, DISH could accept the distant waiver from WTXL because WTVM did not respond within the deadline. I was granted NY ABC distant access. Again, the unique circumstance of the overlapping DMA was the determining factor. However, it maybe short lived due to the latest ruling against DISH favoring FOX that puts distant access in jeopardy.

Given the very low frequency (2) that WTWC broadcasts its digital signal on, you need a pretty wide antenna to get the signal. (There is a whole thread here at AVS that talks about low frequency VHF). I ended up putting a low VHF antenna in my attic and WTWC is now my strongest and most reliable signal. Good new is that at some point, WTWC will be moving their digital to 40.
Also, look up a few pages in this thread for a post by sfoltz regarding the ability to install an antenna or a dish in an apartment or condo.

Give us a bit more information on your system. What is your source for ESPNHD? Is it hdtv cable box, dish or directv? What type of cabling are you using? I'm not familiar with Emerson's inputs. Are you using the Emerson's onboard audio or are you routing the audio to a multi-channel receiver or preamp/processor?
BlueEyesDW 11-27-06, 05:56 PM I have Emerson 37inch lcd hdtv with built in tuner. I am recieving my broadcast through regular analogue cable. No box or anything. Mt tv converts the signals. i currently recieve roughly 20 digital/hd channels because of my tuner. I have ABC NBC CBS FOX all in HD. ESPN comes in at HD just has no sound.

ESPN on cable is usually encrypted, requiring an "extra fee", where local network broadcast stations ie ABC etc, should fall somewhere in the basic digital tier fee structure. I am surprised you even get ESPN video. ;)

To get any hdtv through Comcast you're supposed to subscribe and get the hdtv cable box. I'm surprised you get any hidef straight from regular cable. Perhaps the ESPNHD is broadcasting DolbyDigital and there's a setting in your tv to turn it on? That's my only suggestion on getting it to work.

I got curious and researched this and Ross is correct. Comcast states on its webpage:
Do I need a CableCARD or a special HD set-top box to view HD programming if I have a digital-cable-ready HDTV set?
Digital-cable-ready HDTV sets have built-in HD capability so no special set-top box is required to receive HD signals for broadcast digital channels. You would need to use either a set-top box or a CableCARD to receive non-broadcast Comcast Digital Cable and/or HDTV channels that are not available on the basic service tier.
ESPNHD is non-broadcast so a box or card is needed. I got confused because I was an early adopter (got my first hdtv in 1999) so for me, I would need the cable box because my set is "hdtv ready" and not a true hidef t.v.

I ran a new channel setup on my set last night and the new channels that are included in the new Sports and Entertainment package showed up along with ESPN HD and some other current digital channels. FCS Pacific

ESPN HD

But the poster was asking about analog on Comcast. Its all good!
Hammerheadfred 11-28-06, 03:33 PM Comcast broadcasts the local HD channels in the clear. So even if you don't subscribe to the digital tier you can pick up the local HD's if your TV has a QAM tuner. QAM is the cable standard for HD. The other HD channels are usually encrypted and required a cable box. That is probably why you get no sound on ESPN HD.

Will I ever be able to see my locals in HD from my dish.....or Im I gonna have to do the whole OTA thing? What box do you have?
My pop has this problem in North Atlanta. He has the old 811 HD box, so he can get some HD chanels through Dish, but his local HD channels have to come over the air. In other words, you have to put an antenna on the second coaxal antenna input on your box.
It has something to do with the fact that Dish switched the HD compression they were using a couple months back, and some of their older boxes can't receive the new type of compression that those HD channels are now encoded in.
IMHO, I think Dish swindeled a lot of people last year. They sold all these non-compatible boxes on the cheap to unsuspecting customers last year who didn't know any better and now all those people are screwed and can only get certain channels by upgrading or OTA.

With Dish "no way" they will only offer local HD (LIL) to the top 50 markets.
DirecTV will have the Tallahassee HD locals late in 07. They have to wait untill all the Tallahassee locals are in HD (and they have the bugs worked out). I'm in Lake Park and I can get WCTV 6.1 & CW 6.2, WTLH 49.1 & CW 49.2 are up and down OTA.

I also have a vip622. The bottom line is Bandwidth. There simply isn't enough on the satellites they have to receive/feed all of the locals in HD. They are moving towards it a few DMA's at a time, but we're way down the list. Watch one of the 'Charlie Chats' or 'Tech Chats' on Dish or check out one of the threads in this form or the sister forum DBSTalk.com for more than you ever wanted to know about your receiver, DishNetwork, and DirectTV.
The 622 uses the new MPEG format, but in TLH you need two dishes pointed in about 90degree different directions to get all of their HD programming (30ish channels?).
For the time being, you'll need to go the OTA route if you want HD networks.... Or bribe somebody for waivers :o

thats interesting....I was wondering why the put another sat dish next to my old one......and they are pointing about 90 degrees from one another.

rrmcdonald 11-30-06, 08:59 AM wbwell,
I have a DISH 622 and get locals OTA via antenna in the attic. It works well when the local station's broadcast is working (the antenna cable plugs into the back of the 622). You will need to program the 622 to pick up the local channels OTA. When I did the auto search it only picked up NBC, so I had to manually program the others. I believe the frequencies to input are:
NBC - 2
ABC - 22
CBS - 46
FOX - ?? (I have it at home)
Your location will determine type of antenna, direction to point it, etc. Go to www.antennaweb.org and that will help.
(Sorry if all of this is old news to you).

At this time, Dish Network has only made people upgrade if they wanted new additional channels. People can still receive the channels via satellite and OTA that they were already receiving.
DirecTV has also forced people in certain DMAs to upgrade to new equipment to receive HD-LIL and their regional sports network... and will be forcing more people this year over to new equipment.

Tallahassee, FL is WAY down DirecTV's list. Dish Network has stated that they do not intend to offer Tallahassee, FL HD locals AT ALL!!! I do believe there will come a time when Dish may offer them, but I believe it will be years down the line.

You can't really bribe somebody for waivers with Dish Network as they never offered HD-DNS (outside of CBS), and they can no longer offer SD-DNS anymore either.

thanks for the help. If I'm in Valdosta, Ga and I wanted to go OTA to get my HD locals...where would I get them out of, Tallahassee? Seems like it would be kinda far to pick up..

Valdosta, Georgia is part of the Tallahassee, FL DMA... meaning that Valdosta's local channels are Tallahassee stations.
As far as being too far to pick up Tallahassee, FL stations, I live in Terrell County (look it up on a map) and I can receive WCTV-DT (6/46) (CBS/MyNetworkTV) with a signal in the 80s-90s and WTLH-DT (49/50) (FOX & The CW) in the 70s/80s which is equal, or in the case of WCTV-DT, better than MY local channels of WALB-DT and WFXL-DT and I'm only 7-9 miles away from their digital transmitters and 73 miles away from WCTV-DT's transmitter.
~Alan
Since Comcast did their 16.2 update, they added this new sports tier. We now have 2 NFL networks. They are the exact same channel and show the same thing. Chennel 180 and channel 736.
Which one of these is HD? Because they both look the same to me, and if one is in HD it sucks.

DirecTV did force me to upgrade they GAVE me a upgrade. Dish Network got a lot of people to sign up to get distant network stations, knowing it was against FCC rules and regulations. Now Dish is paying the price.
Alan Gordon 11-30-06, 08:34 PM Dish Network got a lot of people to sign up to get distant network stations, knowing it was against FCC rules and regulations. Now Dish is paying the price.
My point was rather that Dish Network didn't force people to upgrade... unless they wanted additional HD channels that they were adding. There will come a time when Dish Network forces those people over to new equipment, just as they have done in the past... but not yet... and the people who have the older equipment can still enjoy the channels that they had. My point was just stating that they didn't take anything away.
As far as the above, every Dish customer I know who tried to get distant networks had most of them taken away years ago back when I lost some of mine on DirecTV, and have only been able to receive ABC via SD-DNS. With the exception of CBS-HD, Dish Network never really had HD-DNS, so that doesn't really affect what the original poster was saying.
I'm with DirecTV, and own a HR10-250 (HD-TiVo). This coming year, I'll have to upgrade to the HR20 if I want to be able to DVR new HD channels on DirecTV. DirecTV has stated that they don't know what kind of upgrade path they will offer people to upgrade to the new HD-DVR, but that the only people who will definately be receiving a free upgrade are the people with HD-DNS. I have some SD-DNS/HD-DNS with DirecTV so I would be eligible for the free "upgrade"... except that I would have to trade in my OWNED HR10-250 for a LEASED HR20. While some people have already reportedly swapped for a HR20 free and was able to keep their HR10-250, not everybody has... meaning I may have to pay to "upgrade" to the HR20 to simply keep some of the programming that I already have now.
I don't like it, but neither company's perfect.

Last I heard JRC was still trying to work out some kinks in the system, most of which lie in their contracted master control center in Little Rock. Today I did get hold of Mike Plummer at WTXL and he said their new station has started construction and best hope for completion is late around April, at which time they should be HD full time for sure.

Neither are HD. I'd read that Comcast would broadcast NFL Network's HD shows on INHD or INHD2 but last night neither networks were showing the game.
jmb04law 12-02-06, 06:45 PM Saturday's Sports HD Difficulties:
(1) ABC: Zero HD broadcast on Comcast. I was resigned to the fact that it was going to be a long time before I had HD on ABC again. I was hoping by the time of the NBA Playoffs I could enjoy ABC in HD. However, with the few hours of HD I got last weekend that leads me to believe they are close and their little tease has reminded me why I was so angry a few months ago. Thank God ABC doesn't have the BCS games or the Super Bowl this year. Whew!
(2) CBS: Nice static sound, at least through the first quarter, of the SEC Championship game. Of course, I would take a slight static noise with HD picture over the mess I have on ABC. Update: It appears the problem has been fixed at the start of the second quarter. Good job CBS!
I've been studying for exams so I haven't really been watching that closely, but those are my observations/frustrations for today...so far :-(

If you can find a way to hook up an HD antenna to get WTXL over the air, they were broadcasting the games in HD. They seem to broadcast strange HD tests often during the day but for a while now, most of the HD games produced by ABC I've been able to pick up over the air on WTXL-DT.
That's picking up your locals in analog.
No, the 2nd dish (more southerly facing) would be for the additional HD channels (formerly Zoom) at the 61.5 orbital location.
The Tallahassee analogs come in via 110 and/or 119.

We are not trying to broadcast those tests, that is the problem that is keeping Comcast from turning us on for their customers. Something is causing a mix-up between our programming department and the master control operator that actually switches it. To make matters worse, the master control is in Little Rock, AK, so there is no way for them to monitor our HD signal!
It is now for the programming department to figure out. I have prooved my equipment working correctly.

Is there another QAM channel that has ABC in HD? The rest of the major networks work fine.

Are you still around? If so, please update us on what is or can be done about the continuing horrible PQ on CW network shows (on Comcast). Last night I watched "Gilmore Girls" and the color tints were constantly fluctuating, as if the signal was weak and wavering. Right now CW is by far the worst PQ of any Comcast channel. Please advise if any relief is in sight. Thanks much.

rob_z11 12-07-06, 11:44 AM Ok. I am new to this thread. I have been reading this for few days now, and it is very useful information.
I just bought Haier 42in from Office Depot on Black Friday Sale, and finally hooked up the Philips Antenna from Wal-Mart behind the TV, and it does very good job on Monday on WCTV and FOX.
I lost Fox yesterday, and only OTA I get is WCTV which is crystal Clear. I don't get PBS, ABC, NBC or FOX anymore. I get analog channel ok, but bit fuzzy.
I live off the Centerville Road, just past I-10 Overpass.
Any help on what are the tweaks necessary to get OTA like Antenna Placement or the type?
Anyone is using this TV, and if they have heard good or bad things about it?

I live near Tom Brown Park and I have a Terk GS2000 amplified antenna. I am able to get WTXL, WTWC, WCTV and WTLH all with a 90 + signal and WFSU most of the time with a 60 + signal. All of the big four have very good picture but FOX drops out a lot.
You will probably need an amplified or a large antenna to pickup stations besides WCTV or FOX.
Ok so DirecTV has activated the OTA component of the HR20 DVR. I'm now in need of a strong antenna so I can pickup the Tally locals in HD. I live out Centerville Road near Bradley's.
Which antenna should I get?

I have a have a Terk GS2000 amplified antenna connected to a Dish 622 it works well for me. It’s small and bi-directional but all the networks are in the same direction. I get a signal of 90 + for all four. I would think almost any antenna would work well from your location.

FYI, WTXL was not in HD on Comcast last night (Men in Trees) Thursday, December 7. Please try again. Thanks.
houselog442 12-10-06, 07:36 PM Looks like WTWC has no HD as usual!

This is horrible. When are these people gonna here locally gonna get their stuff together?
FSUScotsman 12-11-06, 12:04 AM Don't know where to find someone else to ask....the other night when FSU was playing at Stetson...did anyone that has DirecTV get the game? All I got was a "not available in this area" on 634 which was the Panthers at the Pens hockey, and a black screen on 635. One other person I know with D* watched the game. I don't get it. I was under the impression that I ALWAYS got my own RSN unless the home pro team was playing at home. I'm VERY confused.

On Dish they put it an alternate channel the Panthers were on SUN Sports. The best thing to do is look on your channel guide it should be close if it’s on.
FSUScotsman 12-11-06, 02:15 PM It was on the guide, but I still couldn't get it. VERY confusing. According to the CSR at DirecTV I should have gotten both but they can't figure out why I can't. Next time something gets blocked will be the key.
What is the problem with HDTV on Comcast in the Tallahassee area.
For one, unless the Jacksonville Jaguars play on ESPN they have never been broadcast in HDTV on CBS.
Two, what is the problem with CBS and ballgames. They will start a broadcast in HDTV then switch to regular broadcast after fiddling around for a few minutes.
Two weeks ago ABC broadcast Shrek II in HDTV and some other program but nothing since. I can’t receive Fox on my over the air broadcast antennae, but it is broadcast on Comcast. If they can do that for FOX how come they can bring in the other local channels, then switch to the local commercials at the appropriate time.
The HDTV broadcast are so iffy in Tallahassee area, that I wonder if the engineers only work on the weekdays from 8-5 then they have interns working at nights and on weekends with the poor technical craftsmanship during these periods.

We feel your pain!! :(
PBSengineer 12-12-06, 12:39 PM I often wonder what these fools will do come 2/19/09 when analog goes away. At some point (and I question if they even care) they will have to pay attention to their digital.
I am completely pissed that, with all the money I spent on HD and surround, I can't get reliable HD. --JEEZ
WTLHFOXHD we haven't heard from you in almost a month now. JRCSTUDIOS is starting to show you up.
Every once in a while, I tune to FOX OTA. Seems like there was a few days where I got solid 98 signals like I do with WCTV and WTWC, but more than not, I get 68 or so dropping off to no signal.
Are you still having known problems or is this the best it is going to get?
Trek2000 12-12-06, 11:17 PM I always get a strong signal from FOX but I get a lot of breakup and dropout. I hope it gets better before 24 comes on.
Good, I'm not the only one experiencing this lack of quality control. I guess I need to write a little letter to the editor, and empahsize the lack of repect the owners of the stations have for their viewers and more importantly for the advertisers on their stations. Unfortunately the HDTV coverage in our small area is way better than the HDTV in Norfolk,VA area which has 4 times the people we do. I see ABC is working on being up by April. Isn't it funny that ESPN and TNT can run their stations so well and we end up looking like some back woods hillbillys with our local affiliates. It wasn't long ago that the FSU game was off the air for an hour or so while the station manager was eating lunch with her dad. In my business there would have been fifty people on site rigging up something to make it work. Even if we pulled it off another companies dish illegally.
C’est la vie
sbturner 12-16-06, 06:56 PM I just don't understand how WTLH's signal can't get better. We can't get an expert in here to see what the problem is and fix it? It's been this way for months. Let's get this thing fixed please, before the BCS games and 24. PLEASE!!!!

I feel your pain. I don't know if Fox has any BCS games, but I'm ready to see Jack in HD!!
salvatorep 12-16-06, 10:31 PM I feel your pain. I don't know if Fox has any BCS games, but I'm ready to see Jack in HD!!As do I. DirecTV enabled the OTA tuners on their HD DVR and I was quite dismayed to see such a horrible picture on Fox using the antenna.
If anyone from the station is watching the forum, please pay more attention to picture quality.
The signal for WTLH-DT OTA seems to be fluctuating quite a bit over the last several days. Drop outs are becoming all too common again. FOXHD or other station rep: PLEASE NOTE THESE CONTINUING PROBLEMS AND CORRECT THEM.
houselog442 12-17-06, 07:28 PM I have had no problems with WTLH at all lately, I do live close to the towers, but it does not seem to be the microwave problems in the past so i am not sure why the rest of you guys are having problems getting WTLH
houselog442 12-17-06, 07:32 PM I'm getting really f****** tired of WTWC not having HD for their sunday night football game. The pre-game show so far has had no HD and it probably will have no HD game for the SECOND STRAIGHT WEEK! This is infuriating.
