Michanecash- Thanks for the response, unfortunately the center speaker is 9.5" high so it still won't fit.
Racer47- I thought about putting my center channel above the TV but I thought that might distort the sound, like the voices were coming from above.
Please excuse my ignorance about all things audio, I'm trying to get the best of both worlds. A great sounding system that is also housed attractively.

Just a clarification.. My local VCF store has it for $100 off what's listed on the website... YRMV.

Wow. You are my hero. I'll have to call my local stores tomorrow and see if they have them.

I almost caved on Monday and bought it from Best Buy for $315 during the President's day sale. Glad I didn't.

I also emailed Whalen and they replied saying only Best Buy and Costco carried that model. Guess they're wrong.

I don't think putting the speaker above the TV will matter that much. A good center channel isn't supposed to be that directional.

Yeah, there is one stand the BDI Cielo will fit a 9.5" exactly. But thats not an enclosed cabinet. I would double check about mounting it above the TV. I have heard it can effect the speakers performance. Not to mention the eye sore factor.

Help.....I cant find a stand that will fit an 46xbr4 in a tight space. I am looking for a wooden stand/console. Color has to be light/medium oak. Preferably with some drawers to use for storage...but not for dvd/cds. I am really limited to 48" maybe up to 51" if the front to back is not too deep. Height between 24" to 30".

Last resort would be a glass stand.....but they tend to be in the 20" to 22" height. Possibly a mounted stand. This isnt easy to find a stand. Been looking at stores and online for over a month.

I bought the lcd yesterday.....and it is still in the box because I have nothing to put it on.

Any ideas? I have been to tons of furniture stores and looked online.

Thanks
Debbie

+1 as long as the center channel isn't way above the display. I've read other posts saying for the perfect setup (pointing the rear channels properly, SPL meter, etc) that you can angle the center channel towards the viewing position. I'm not that particular about it and my new setup with the center channel above the display works great.

FYI for anyone else looking for this stand. The $100 off sale ended about a week ago and it's back to $299 currently. However my local stores that were out of stock said they were getting more the first week of March, so it'll probably go back on sale in the near future. Or at least I hope it does.

The Dolby theater recommendation for center channel speakers in movie theaters is that they be placed horizontally behind the screen and at the screen's center (dah!). Proper vertical placement per Dolby recommendations is from 66% to 75% of screen height. This recommendation comes from the fact that, in the vast percentage of on-screen dialogue that's where the actors heads will be!

Therefore, a center channel speaker mounted directly above the screen and pointed down toward the listening area is actually much closer to being optimally positioned. (It is after all only 25% to 33% away from being perfectly positioned).

Conversely, a center channel speaker mounted below a screen is 66+ to 75+% away from where most dialogue will appear to emanate from the actors' mouths so the bottom mounted position is far less optimal.

The fact that bottom mounted center channel speakers seem to work so is well just points out how easy it is for all of us to be fooled by apparent sound location (the actors mouths) on screen versus the actual emanation of the sound (from the center channel speaker). This is one of the best examples I know of the psychoacoustic brain trickery that is a constant in 5.1 and 7.1 sound reproduction.

hmmm. i finally purchased BDI Marina for my Kuro Pro150FD. its height is 23.25" and just wondering if i made the right decision. its a beautiful stand. just black for my black - kuro.

Anyone else got this?

http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/3108/bdi87292nr3.jpg

i really like this unit and several others from bdi, but i dont think i can justify spending that much on a stand when my 5080 was just under $2k by itself.

anyone know of a similar stand to this that is less expensive? (mesh covers w/room for medium sized center, 50+ " wide total). maybe i just need to go back to looking at open only stands :X

I am also getting this once the room is completed, have you actually gone and looked at the Marina? If you do you will agree that this is not a stand but a piece of furniture making it a lot easier to justify the cost.

I planned on building a stand for our plasma. We have the TV hung on the wall and we need some sort of "stand" for our conponents and Wii and speakers. Time & weather are not going to allow me to do it myself. So I am coming to you for help. My wife must have a TV stand that is all open on the front but enclosed on the sides and back. Below is the "plan" for what I was going to build. Does anyone know of a stand out there like this???

Has anyone purchased from Hidef Lifestyle before? The Bello stand I want is:

http://www.bello.com/index.php?partition=show_product&prod_id=201&categ_id=39

It's substantially cheaper there, but very little resellerratings.com info. Otherwise I may go w/ Abt since that's local for me, but that means paying 150 more + tax.

Ah, here's a flat-panel furniture thread. OK, OK...I'll try to read all 76 pages for ideas, but between now and that date sometime in the next year can anyone offer advice on this: considering this piece to put my 4280 on in the bedroom

http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee136/CDLehner/2455B257S.jpg

but I'd like to have the "mounting bars" like this piece

http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee136/CDLehner/gal_237wb_01.jpg

Anyone know of a dresser like this that already has the mounting bars, or a way to attach these mounting bars to this dresser?

Thanks,

I don't know if this applies in other places, but I just bought the BDI Avion 8527 from Magnolia/Best Buy in Southfield, MI for $700. They had it marked clearance and I thought it was the floor model; turns out they ordered it for me on Saturday 16-Feb, picked it up on Friday 22-Feb, brand new. Really great deal on a great piece of furniture.

Hoping someone can help....

As the title says, I'm looking for something for a bedroom that will have a 32" LCD on the top shelf and I was hoping a couple of shelves to hold a Tivo and DVD player as well as drawers for clothes. Wider than taller, in a wood finish

This is for a bedroom. I've seen these sort of units at various Marriott's. I don't know if they are custom made for each property. But, I have been unable to find anything for sale that seems to fit the bill.

Thanks!

Raj, did you see this one that I posted

I went with a conventional entertainment center (60" base), 144" W x 84"H x 32" D. It fit my Samsung FP-T6374 Plasma (only just!) and all my electronic hardware in one neat unit. It also filled a bare wall in my LR perfectly. I bought it on "The Bay" for $2600 delivered. Way less than a furniture store would charge. All in all, i'm very happy with it.

ok i've decided i cant spring for the bdi level stuff, as much as i want to. :(

i'm back to square one looking at sub $500 stands (mostly open stands made of tempered glass, unfortunately). can anyone recommend a couple good brands, or better yet a specific model or two?

looking specifically for a stand in the 50-60" range, under 22" high (have a 50" pioneer 5080). i really want space for my rc-52 center, so i am willing to go wider than 60". i'm running a full hdmi setup with only a 3.0 audio setup (for now), therefore my cabling is very minimal with 1 wire going to the tv.

thanks for any suggestions.

i really like the look of that setup. only thing i'm concerned about is that it might be just a little too high.

i'm considering yours and the following:

http://www.tvstands.com/StudioTech-DP-2-BK-SO0134.html

while this one is at the upper limits of what i'm willing to spend on an open stand, it looks like it has a higher grade glass + support system, and has a wood veneered top.

I just broke out the tape measurer.... The top shelf is 24" off the ground and my actual viewable portion of the screen is at 30" from the ground... When we sit down on our couch, we are pretty much looking at the set on a 90 degree angle horizontal viewing angle....

Now I had my concerns about placing my new Aquos the top shelf before I took delivery of the stand... But when I realized how heavy and solid the pieces were and set up the stand, those concerns were immediately put the rest... The frame is so damn solid....

Here's a picture of the stand with the clear glass and grey frame... You can see how it's designed.. The base of my TV actually sits on the very back portion of the shelf and all the weight is literally going down on the back support beam and not on the front portion of the shelf... The tempered glass shelves are heavy as hell and the top shelf screws down....

You can find this stand for $300-350 + tax if you shop around enough.... Bell'O will email you a list of their dealers if you call them...

Here's more pictures from their site:

do the black glass shelves get really dusty? :o

i've taken my troubles to a new thread for now: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1002521

for owners of the studiotech dp-2 (http://www.studiotech.com/products/plasma_tv_stands/dp-2/details.html) stand, could you please post some pictures of your setup and any thoughts you have on it?

i spent a significant amount of time in the flat panel furniture thread (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=416358), and thought i had decided on a stand for my pioneer 5080 (initially looked at enclosed stands and realized i just couldnt afford the ones i wanted (BDI). moved to open stands, but wanted to avoid the cheap cheap glass ones). the dp-2 is only part glass and looks to have good support... however the klipsch rc-52 center channel i just bought is 6.75" tall, and of course the middle shelf height is only 6" on the dp-2. i'm either back at square one or looking at the mounting options (http://www.tvstands.com/StudioTech-DP-PMP-SO0097.html) on the dp-2.

i honestly think its taken me longer to find a good stand than it has to decide on most of my other components combined D:

thoughts and suggestions welcome. this forum has been extremely helpful thus far!

Well, since I could not find a wood stand that met the specifics I wanted, I got a stand that has black glass shelves. And for me the shelves have been getting very dusty. I do have forced hot air for heat....so that may contribute to it.

I ordered this same Prepac stand as Sushinut; just waiting for it to arrive now. I looked at every freakin' stand out there, and this was the only one that really met my criteria. I wanted a stand taller than 21 inches, but no more than 26. I wanted open-air center vertical shelving, with at least three shelves. And the DVD storage kills two birds with one stone for me, as my current DVD shelf is full and I'm in need of more storage. All this, and I didn't want to spend a grand on a stand. I hope it works out as well as I think it will.

Just got a Samsung plasma a little over a month ago and I had the hardest time looking for TV stand that I liked. I finally settled on this thing from Wal-Mart, it's not perfect but it's OK considering it was only 80 bucks:

http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc197/mdoyle10/PICT0014.jpg

There was no real place for my center channel, and a wall mount is out of the question. So I took the bottom drawer out and used a couple hinges to attach the drawer front to the bottom piece. Now the drawer front flips down, like so:

http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc197/mdoyle10/PICT0015-1.jpg

It ain't great, and I'm certainly always on the lookout for something better but I think it's pretty neat anyway.

I'm just about to pull the trigger on the BDI 8429, but I'm wondering whether the glass on top gives off any anoying reflections from nearby lights or from the TV itself. I hve a Sony 52XBR4 and love the matte panel and bezel with no reflections, and I wouldn't want to introduce any anoying glare or reflections.
Can anyone who has this BDI model give me your opinion on this.

Hello all! Quick question, and if I'm in the wrong forum please push me in the right direction. Anyone ever replaced their factor Pedestal stand that their LCD/Plasma comes on with an aftermarket one? I'm just wondering if there are options for that. I'm setting up my new Flat Panel table (pics soon) and just wanted to throw this out there. My concern is that my new TV's stand won't be super sturdy enough in a kid-friendly room. Thanks!

so i've been researching a home theater setup since last sept

the last month or so, i've been thinking about getting a pio 6010 & a bdi avion...

the last week or so my wife & i decided we couldn't get the pio 6010 to fit our budget...

i then saw that tweeter had the elite 1150 on sale & decided to go w/ that plasma...neither tweeter or best buy had the bdi avion in stock so i decided to get the follow stand (hoping that it would somewhat match my cherry polks)

anyway, i'm ecstatic w/ the combination of the elite & the stand! i will soon post pics of the actual setup but for now this is the stand i went w/ :

Anyone know where else, besides Costco, I might be able to get this. I really like it but all the Costcos around me are unfortunately out and say they won't get additional furniture until the end of the year!

Thanks for recommending the Savante Shemore, ant927. I actually bought the last boxed one at the Costco near me. This unit has exceptional quality for the price ($375). I can't believe the features it has for this price point:

- metal mesh vented sliding shelves and bottom
- removable magnetic finished wood backs with cable slots for access to equipment
- glass/wood/mesh door options
- integrated power strip in middle cabnet
- Completely assembled

I was really close to purchasing a unit that wasn't as nice and was over $700 plus delivery charges and 6 week lead-time. You saved me $300+ bucks!

For those who are interested, here is some more information on this product:

Manufacturer: Slam Brands
Model: Savante Sehmore
Costco Item#: 173582
Price: $375.00
Gross Weight: ~198lb.

27" W x 8.5" H x 15-3/8" give or take an 1/8" all around.

Heheh...got rti6's! Can't beat the prices on these "older" PAs!

BDI calls them "natural stain cherry" (lighter) and "cocoa cherry" (darker). Bsather and I both got the lighter cherry. He's a better photographer and looks like he has a nice sun lit room. Mine were taken in a basement, on a cloudy day, shades closed, and my windows have a deck above them. I'm also using a flash hence the darker background. I was also fortunate to snag a BDI swatch from a store going out of business.

MFW-15 is a 15"-inch powered sub that seems to be a value leader according to craigsub's rankings (Internet Sub Dealers) >> Craigsub Rankings Thread << (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=9164136#post9164136) and will hopefully complement my other speakers nicely. Their product page: http://**********/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=178&category_id=9&manufacturer_id=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=37. I ordered one 2 weeks ago with an ETA of late March. I see ETA is now April. Also comes in cherry! :D

That looks great! The center is exactly 27"? Even giving 1/8" on each side that puts it at 27.25"

I have a 27.5" center channel. That hurts, since that unit looks amazing.

Anyone having any thoughts on something similar that can fit a 27.5" center and a 72" DLP?

Hey. I'm trying to identify this stand's model so I can hopefully find a bracket to connect this stand to my Samsung 4671 LCD TV. I know its a Bello, just can't find the model, or the bracket part num/name to be able to mount it on this stand.

I just bought this from Costco as well and it looks very nice in our room. I'll snap some pictures of it and post them up later today.

bpointer, come back! :)

this one looks pretty nice, and is an option for the style i'm looking for.

i'd like something open for heat purposes, as well as IR reasons. no doors, if possible. i like cherry wood, and i like a lot of the wide low stands posted so far but most of them have doors.

anyone else have pics of this stand?

Whalen, V.A.S., Golden Oak and Bayside are all part of the same company.

Whalen calls that stand the Omega. In the US, Costco stores carry the same one under the Bayside brand and it's called the Alpha. The last time I was in Costco, the price was $199

Here's my new console table and new TV to match :) The wall behind the TV is a half-circle shape with wall to ceiling windows. I've had a dickens of a time trying to find a piece that would meet these reqs: high WAF, functional, sturdy, relatively inexpensive, real furniture rather than a stand, dark wood.

The picture doesn't do it justice.

It is the Chaplin 66" Retro Cherry Entertainment Console from Rooms to Go. Was around $500-$600 I believe. Not cheap, but not bad compared to the BDI sets I had my eye on :)

It's got lots of good qualities - looks great, built well, beautiful color, wide shelves that fit all my components, perfect height and width. However, it does have some downsides - shelves do not roll out, only has one (on each side) 4 inch pre-built hole for cables and air flow, shelves are not adjustable and (this one was biggest drawback) no shelf or stand for center speaker. Which is why mine is in front of the TV (not perfect or preferred for numerous reasons but best I can do at this time).

I am slightly annoyed that I missed the Savante Shemore @ Costco that's exactly what I was looking for in that price range. I think they pulled it so they could charge $1k for that other crappy furniture on their site.

I was lucky enough to snag one of these this past Sunday.

My brother got one a month or so back and I've been watching costco.com and my local store with no success. I stopped by the other Costco in my area and was lucky enough to get the only one they had. Best part is I got this for 3 bills flat.

Exceptional quality and value for what you pay. This is easily a $1k stand. I would encourage all who want one to check all the local stores. Don't just call. I tried calling and was told they had none, had none on order, nor could they say if they were going to continue to sell these.

Good luck.

The stand is okay.....it does what it should.....hold the lcd...lol. We were looking for an all wood stand....but had to settle for a glass one. We were unable to find a wood one that would work for our setup. The thing I like about this one is that it has a choice of using a short spine, or a longer one that has a mounting bracket that can be attached. We attached ours. You can also use tha short spine and either place the lcd on the top shelf or mount on the wall with the included wall bracket.

We got ours at BJs for $199 and the manufacturer is V.A.S, Focus 3 in1 is the model.

Anyone have this setup?..or know of someone that does to confirm this really does fit/support a 60" Kuro?

I'm reluctant to place it actually on the BDI stand, as it is currently already bowing in the middle from my 60" Sony.

I bought the first version and it was flawed in design as there was little support in the centre for any size TV (actually couldn't even support it's own weight) and quickly began to sag. The newer version seems to have a centre support and should work better. Also the finish looks awesome but is very easily scratched so you really have to baby it. I don't know what kind of wood they use but it has some visible grain that doesn't go well with the black semi gloss finish. The biggest plus and reason I bought it was that it was very functional for my needs (I wanted open space for centre speaker, and electronic components) and closed space for media and other stuff. The extra top shelf with door is just perfect for consoles/controllers and remotes.

In summary:

Pros:
-Functionality (space, mix of open and closed space)

Cons:
-Build quality (I can only comment on first version)
-Finish (easily scratched)

can I get a pic of your setup? this is one i'm seriously considering (because of price). i want something wide and black, with open shelving.

No, I have a 46xbr4......but that is like a 50'" with the size of the bezel. I believe the actual width of my lcd is 49.5". Depending on the actual width of your set....it could match nicely.

I have an Avion 8527. The center leg lever will create upward force in the center support panels. Do this:
Make sure all your leg levelers are retracted, push the TV as far back as you can live with. Then turn the center leg levers (one in the front one in the back) until you see the bow go away. Over time your stand settles and it just needs some standard adjustment. That is BDIs instructions.

here is the reply:

Thank you for your interest in our Savante line of products. I
apologize, but the Shemore is only available through Costco and is
currently sold out in the majority of locations. Unfortunately, once
this item is sold out there is no other available retailer for purchase
and it is unclear as to whether or not Costco will be re-ordering any
additional units. My only suggestion would be for you to contact your
various local Costco stores to see if one might happen to have any
remaining units or a display model you could purchase.
We will be having a similar unit being sold in Costco starting in June.
I have attached a picture of it. The dimensions are: Depth 20.50in,
Width 60.75in, height 28.00in, and Weight 168.68lbs.

I also have the same question. My entertainment unit just came in and it has a very similar back panel:

I was hoping the back panel would be a bit thicker than it is but it's only about an inch thick. Should I add some wood 2x4s behind the panel? If anyone has any links to instructions that could help me with this I'd really appreciate it :)

Just finished reading the thread, and I noticed that the Loop Media Stand from Crate and Barrel was mentioned, but without feedback. Link here: http://www.crateandbarrel.com/family.aspx?c=994&f=22294&fromLocation=trends&l=247

Wondering if anyone had ever bought it, and what their experience was with mounting the plasma to it. I went and saw it in the store and it seems to be a standard "2nd wall" type of piece, where you would be drilling lag bolts through the wood piece and securing it with washers and nuts.

I was planning to buy the Monoprice Tilting/Swiveling Wall Mount to mount a 50" Panasonic plasma from Costco.

I recently purchased the loop media stand with the back panel and mounted my 40inch to it alone. The mount I purchased has a bolt in each corner so I ended up buying some Toggler hollow wall anchors and some oak 1/4's to put behind the backboard. I don't think the extra wood was necessary but it sure does give me a little more piece of mind...

Although this response is many months after your post I think that a 50" plasma would be too big for the the regular 54" loop stand I posted pictures of below. Create & Barrel also now carries a loop media stand that is 64" wide and a bit taller. A 50" plasma on the 54" loop stand would cover nearly the entire back panel with only a few inches on all 4 sides. Though I suppose it's a matter of preference :)

Here are some pictures of how it's mounted.. the tv is the Sony 40V2500 which I think weights just over 40 pounds.

Any ideas? Looking for a budget stand, $100 or less.... Should be at least 36" high as I will need it to be around the same height as my bed so the IR signal reaches the box.

Any ideas? Looking for a budget stand, $100 or less.... Should be at least 36" high as I will need it to be around the same height as my bed so the IR signal reaches the box.

Thanks!

I am in the same boat as you. I want to hang a TV in between our closet doors, about 72 inches of clearance between the doors. Our dog's crate is below that, kind of worried about it falling on the dog, but I don't think it will ever happen. Or I could move the dog into the other room. I was thinking about cutting a hole in the wall and mounting the cable box in the wall, but then I was wondering how to let the heat out or keep it from getting too hot. Is it worth cutting a hole in the wall or just get some kind of wall shelving like this: http://www.alvio.com/product_view.aspx?product_ID=178822&source_ID=froogle

I don't know anything about the retailer but you could probably find something like it locally?

Yeah, I think I will move him into the guest room. I have decided to go with a 37" TV and do without the STB, which means no HBO HD or DVR, but that's cool. Are you going to be running 5.1 speakers or just built in speakers of the LCD? I'm thinking of going klipsch promedia but not sure how to run them yet.

My bedroom is really small... 12 x 9

So I'm just going to be sticking with the TV's built in speakers.... But don't think I haven't been thinking about going with a 2.0 set up =]

Anyone have the Media Furniture by IKEA called the Markor? I'm thinking about going with that one now for my living room. Was wondering what the dimensions are on shelves? They have 2 doors on each side with shelves in the middle. I wonder if they are proportional or are the Shelves in the middle wider than the door shelves.

Just based on the picture, it does look like the center section is slightly wider than the sides,... right? May be an optical illusion, though. No promises, but I *might* be near an Ikea later this week; if so, I'll try to take a look.

I just went to Ikea to look at and pick up the Markor TV stand, but it didn't work out for me.

The center section is wide enough for most A/V equipment but my center channel speaker would be cutting it close. The side sections are too narrow for most A/V equipment.

I also was not impressed by the fact that the unstained holes for adjusting the shelves are clearly visible against the dark brown stain.

Center Section = 18.5 inches
Side Sections = 16.5 inches each

This thread was very helpful to me when I was looking to find a stand a few months back. Thanks to all who contributed. I thought I would share my result.

After looking at everything, what I really wanted was a Salamander Synergy Triple 30 with Center Shelf. I settled for the Altra 1109-096 (Best Buy SKU #8212338). A couple of guys were talking about it in December '07 but nobody ever bought it and posted to my knowledge.

It's a decent stand for about 1/3 the cost of the Salamander when the Altra is on sale. I have a Toshiba 47HL167 on top of it; the main speakers are everyone's favorite Fry's special cherry R50 and the center is a cherry CSi3. The cherry on the speakers does not match the cherry on the stand exactly, as can be seen in the photos. The railing is supposedly some sort of oak.

You may notice that there are no doors on the stand (unlike Best Buy's photo). I put them on for my wife, but we both thought it looked better without them. I liked it better without the doors in the first place; she mainly didn't like them because I could not get them level for the life of me.

Thanks for the info. I think it might work for me. I just have to find time to go by there one day. I checked shipping but they are freaking crazy with the shipping, it was 285 bucks to ship. I will take a day trip up and buy it and some how turn it into a business trip. Maybe one of those unstained holes can be fixed with a stain pen. I found a wood stain pen at lowes because one of my cheapo chairs had a nick in it and I was able use the stain pen to cover it up.

The center area is a hair taller than 7 7/8"; there is no way an 8.5" speaker would fit.

Would credenza @31" high be too high for a stand mounted pro-1150hd 50" plazma. Seems like the ideal hight would be 23"-26". I have other options within this furniture collection but I like the stronger "arts and crafts" style of this unit and the open space would be great for a center channel speaker.

I was wondering if anyone is using the

IKEA BONDE Sideboard as their TV stand? Also, did you modify the legs or put holes in the back?

Is there any issue with having IR compoments behind glass?

Cheers,

Detox
I just bought the IKEA BONDE sideboard. I didn't use the legs that came with it, I used 6 IKEA BJÄRNUM brackets instead as legs. Just drilled two pilot holes and screwed them in where the other legs would have gone.

Haven't done anything to the back, but doesn't look hard to drill through. Each back piece has a corner removed for cables already.

Haven't had a problem w/ IR so far.

I plan on breaking the glass out of two of the compartments and putting in speaker cloth and my speakers behind those.

the picture doesn't do it justice, it really is a nice solid stand. two drawers and a center speaker mesh cover. has vent holes in the top of the back and the back of the bottom, all along the stand. the back panel has its own removeable panels for big wiring changes. it's pretty high quality and came with no blemishes. took Sunday to put it together and got all my HT stuff put in. My HT is still a work in progress and still has my Onkyo, HKTS-11 speakers, blu-ray player, and Pio 9G to add. I'll take a pic of my current setup tonight though if I think about it.

thanks to those who sent me pics and helped me out!

does anyone know of something like a riser for receivers/players that will lift them up a bit? I'm asking because in order for my tivo HD and my 360 to be in IR range (the middle wood pieces on the glass are blocking their IR receiver) i needed to bring the top shelves up a bit. this leaves a huge gap between components and also the items on the bottom are a bit low anyway. I'd like something that lifts them up a bit to set them on, and it will serve double purpose by circulating more air around them. thanks, if you understand what i mean.

Can one of the Whalen epixx stand owners please let me know how much is the clearance(height) between the top shelf and the TV(mounted on the pillar)? [I realize it will be different for different TV sizes] Please also list your TV size.

I am looking for a 12 inch height for my center channel.

Hi deising,

Could you measure from the bottom of the cabinet to the shelf that holds your CC speaker? I have a LCD stand that screws into a cabinet @ 20". According to BB your piece is 28" tall and you said a 7.5" gap. That puts it very close to the kind of cabinet I need.

Thanks - John

No problem at all.

From the floor to the top of the center shelf is 18". The center shelf itself is 3/4" thick. The center channel area is almost, if not exactly, 8".

Hope that helps. It sounds like the placement of the center shelf might be a bit too low for your application.

I considered purchasing it. If you do get it and would be willing, could you measure the top center inside space without the drawer. Can't get a straight answer on how big it is with the drawer removed. I have a big center channel, and I think it will be just right, but not sure.

I just got this cabinet last week. I love it; beautiful piece of furniture.

The center space is 28.25" wide. If you take the top drawer out it is just an open space with no shelf. You would need to remove the drawer sliders and add a shelf, which would be fairly easy.

The only problem I had is it was delivered by a 18 wheel tractor trailor on a pallett, and he couldnt get in our narrow driveway. So had to make other arrangements for the last 300'.

Ok her's whar I came up with. I didn't want a TV stand, because they are too low, If I lie on the couch, I would have to look through the bifocal reading part of my glasses, or crook my neck. The TV is 49" wide, and sits in a corner, so I had decided on a dresser that was 40" wide, so it could be pushed back farther in the corner. never found one that I liked before the TV got delivered. Great, you saved me a measure!

We did purchase this unit - had it delivered on Saturday. It is a nice piece of furniture - the WAF is extremely high. And it's only mid-priced - we paid $1050 for a floor model in perfect condition plus $75 for delivery. My only complaint is that it can't go flush against the wall because I have to allow about three inches for the power strip - I wish there was a way to tuck the power strip underneath it or just inside the back of the cabinet.

That Salamander a few posts up is pretty sweet too.

1. From the angle the photo was taken, and considering the depth of field...the plasma appears to be flush mounted. The reality is its a plain old peerless 660 tilt mount that sits about two inches out from the wall.

2. Its a 58ph10uk alright...the furniture dimensions are 64.8 x 21.2 x 24.2 inches. MSRP is $1899 I think; I paid $1450 delivered from a local retailer. Not that I don't want bigger...but no one else in my household seems to at the moment. The same stand comes in a double which would be perfect for 50" display (as long as you don't need to hide your center speaker inside).

Okay guys I need your collective knowledge here, because I am close to pulling my hair out.

I have room for a media center that is a max width of 60 inches, but I need to put my HTPC in there and it is 19 inches tall.

The nearest cabinet to my dimensions and preferred wooden finish was this Avion corner: http://www.bdiusa.com/avfurniture/avion_corner_8525.shtml
but this is more suited for a corner space, and it wouldn't accomodate the HTPC height. I have the standard equipment - xbox 360, receiver, and 2 floor standing speakers, plus I'm in the market for a 45inch -50 inch plasma.

I'd be grateful for any suggestions. Thanks!

For my first post I thought i'd comment on our recent purchase with Bush furniture.
We looked at possibly everything available both on-line and in local stores. Even going out of town for ideas and we finally settled with these two peices.
I'm very happy with them and they didn't break the bank like some of the items we looked @. These things are heavy and appear very solid in construction.

Thank you GC3. The only other thing that is blocking me is finish. I'd ideally like a mahogony finish to match the first speakers shown here: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=939744&page=9 has anybody come across something like this on their travels?that's a beautiful piece of wood, but i doubt you'll find anything like that without having something custom made...

So I went and saw the Markor piece @ Ikea. Oh man that thing is horrible in person. The wood is really soft, they had 3 floor models around and they were all dinged and paint was rubbed off. For 279 I guess it's not bad but I will hold our for the Savante Shemore replacement at Costco. Tried going into Costco yesterday next to Ikea, but they won't let you in there without a membership card. Kind of weird because you don't really have to have a membership buy anything online but you do have to pay 5% more. I guess they didn't want my stimulus money, oh well their loss.

We looked at Ikea for a stand. I really do not like that place. Very cheap quality stuff....and the prices are too steep for the lack of quality. Look around more...or hold out till you find something better.

Finally, a decision has been made. I've had my TV for a while so I gave into waiting for the Costco Savante series. I ended up going to Circuit City to pick up the Techcraft 60" TV Stand Model: THC SWP60. It's a nice heavy piece of furniture. You have to put it together yourself, unless you want to pay an extra 70 bucks for CC to do it. I opted to do it myself. It took about 2 hours for one person to do it. Tools needed: Philips Head Screw Driver, Hammer (not needed but called for, ended up wood gluing dowels in because they weren't a tight fit), wood glue (not listed but needed IMO). It's ~150 lbs so if you need help get it because it's a little cumbersome to put the top and bottom piece on without a little help. I managed since I am stubborn and didn't want to wait for the wife to get home from work. It took about an hour to put my equipment back in. Wanted to put my Onkyo on the left side under the Motorola STB but it won't fit. There is an 18" opening but with the door on it make it more like 17". My receiver is 17-1/4. The middle shelf is 18 3/4" so it barely fit in there. The center channel is on top.

The furniture fits my decor and my wife loves it. I am impressed with the build and didn't have any problems with the screws as some people were saying on the CC reviews. Just don't strip them by over tightening and you should be fine. I have posted some pics of my setup. I plan to change out the LCD with a 47 or 52 LCD in the coming months, maybe when Sony drops prices and all the other LCD manufactures follow suit.

Eventually yes. This room is a work in progress. I will be remodeling the room and moving everything down about 10 feet. Just don't have the funds for it right now. I was just excited to finally get a piece of furniture, you guys know how hard it is to find. Nothing ever is perfect or the way you would want it. This one fits the bill pretty close at this price point.

Yeah, it does a little bit. but it doesnt cut of any of the tv when sitting up. When you lay down it cuts off maybe an 1/8 of an inch. Its almost perfect. I tried to take of the screen but 15-20 screws later I didnt feel like I was close so I gave up.

The coffee table is the BDI stream. Same company as the stand.

I just bought the Omega Flat Panel Console from Costco over the weekend to mount my Sammy LN46A650.
http://www.whalenfurniture.com/products/avc552-8vs.html

I love the look, only problem is, the TV after mounting is slightly off leveled. (and slightly leaning forward) Anyone else have this problem with it? I thought about maybe putting another rubber pad under the the mounting 'hook' on the side it's lower to help.

Also, I'm going to show my ignorance here, but does anyone else feel uneasy about having their expensive tv hanging by 4 bolts about 1/4 inch into the back of the panel? :) I guess this is what they are designed to do, just have a fear of hearing a crash one night.

Any opinions on the overall construction of this stand?

I don't know what is worse, my indecision on which TV to get, or the indecisiveness of what type of furniture I am going to go with.

I definitely have ruled out the big full entertainment centers. I like the entertainment centers with the back hutch that has just a couple of shelves like the JSP Allegro

http://www.jsp-industries.com/Pages/introhomethea.html

It is just so expensive.

The other two choices are.

Both have wall mounting the TV, but one is a typical Under the TV stand like

http://www.jsp-industries.com/Pages/introhomethea.html

Not that specific model but that type of unit.

The last choice is just an Component Tower.

http://www.standsandmounts.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=4940

or

http://www.standsandmounts.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=2374

For the component tower, it would be well off to the left side.

The speakers I am hanging on the walls and ceilings. I am going to have all wires put into the wall, so wherever I put the components I will be putting face plates into the wall for connectors, so the under TV versus Component Tower will change where those face plates are in the wall and how close they are to the area where the TV will be. I am also thinking about which is better for whenever we sell the house.

What do you guys think?

bytor99999

I have seen some nice photos here, but I would love to see if anyone has the component tower setup.

After many weeks of searching, I've come to the conclusion that I'm just not going to find what I want in my price range (I want a wood stand with room for 4+ components, a large center channel (21" X 8"), preferably dark color, and preferably with a drawer or concealed shelf for game controllers, remote, etc.). I love the BDI stands, but I'm looking for something sub-$500 for now.
My new plan is to get just a simple 2-shelf stand with room for 4 components and mount my center channel on a cheap shelf on the wall behind the tv (Sammy 52a650) and keep my stuff elsewhere. There is an Altra model http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8212338&st=altra&lp=10&type=product&cp=1&id=1166235821605
at BB for $400 that meets all my needs, but its a bit high (28") and I really don't like the color. I would get that for $300, but probably no more.
So the two main pieces I'm looking at now are the Techcraft Veneto http://www.amazon.com/Techcraft-Veneto-SWP48-TV-Stand/dp/B000HZICG2******pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1210791401&sr=8-1
and the Winsome 92044 http://www.amazon.com/Winsome-Stand-Glass-Siding-Door/dp/B001775OMO******sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1210790850&sr=1-5
Does anyone own or know much about these models in terms of build quality? I am particularly concerned with bowing on the Winsome, because I know this is a problem with lower-end stands. If anyone has this stand, could you please give me the inside dimensions of the shelves to the inner-most glass door? I would much appreciate it.
Also,
if anyone has other suggestions, I would love to hear them.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8355442&st=altra&lp=7&type=product&cp=1&id=1177112314168

it retails for $400 i think only at BB (that's where i got it). it has two shelves giving you spots for 4 pieces of equipment (and a lot of headroom or room for stacking in each spot) - it has two nice sized drawers where i hold all my games/controllers, and the top section is a meshed space for a center channel. air holes all in the back and the backing has detachable panels in case you need more air space. here's how it looks, and it maxes at 60" TV (mine's a 50"):

briansemerick- Thanks for the pic. I do really like the design on that. I'm not too into black, but I can deal with it as much as I would have to with the color of the other Altra stand at BB. That also looks to have a lower height, which I like. It's not available at too local of a store, so if you have the time would you mind giving me a measurement? I'm looking for the interior width of the spot for the center speaker. My center channel is 20.5" so I've been having a hard time finding anything with a spot for it that is 60" wide total or less (I'm trying to squeeze into a small space. Your help is appreciated!

Here is my setup - a StudioTech HF-33 (http://www.studiotech.com/products/plasma_tv_stands/high_fidelity_hf-33/index.html). It is very solid and well-built. The shelf heights can be changed by buying different length tubes. I was able to get the overall height of 26" by using the 9" and 11" tubes for the two shelves. I also added rolling casters which makes it easy to get to the wires. The TV is a Toshiba 52XF550.

I'm in the planning stages of an upgrade later this year or early next year. I thought selecting equipment was tough, the stand seems much tougher. I will have a 58-60" tv. For various reasons, I do not want to wall mount it. My 2nd problem is a large center speaker, 10" high and 18" wide. I finally found what I think will be a good solution. Studio Tech Entertainment, model HF-33 is a modular unit that comes with 7" and 9" shelves, but I can replace the 9" with 11" legs to meet my needs. It looks good, well built and not pricey.

Nevermind, I found it on Circuit City's website! :)

What are the dimensions of your center channel speaker? I was hoping that a Aperion Intimus 5C (7.33" H x 19.33" W x 8" D) would fit where your center is located. If that Aperion fits in there I might just have to pull the trigger on the Laurier TV Stand!

Your center should fit just fine. My center is 7" H x 18.5" W x 8" D but more importantly the slot size is 8.25" H x 21.5" W x 19.25" D (both center slots are the same size). Hope it works out for you!

Here's our new stand. Found it on craigslist for $200. They said it was from Rooms to Go. It was just what we were looking in for and the amount we wanted to spend. We had a 10+ year old 60" Hitachi (that was given to us) that died (we had been hoping it would last another year or so). We used to keep all the equipment on top of the old tv. New tv is a 42" Philips 7403 which we have been happy with so far and we have room to add a bigger tv once we can afford one. We had to remove part of the back to fit our 400 disc cd changer in (and the stand has to sit out from the wall 4-5" because of the cd changer) which fit on top of the old Hitachi with no problems before.
Old tv (we had just finished installing the floors so the room wasn't back to normal yet but that's how we had the tv, except in the corner)

I am considering buying the Altra - Modular TV Stand for Flat-Panel TVs Up to 58" - Dark Cherry Model: 1127096 | SKU: 8675356 from Bestbuy

Had couple of questions for the owners

1) I am planning on getting the polk cs2 (7" height). Can these fit in the top shelf. Also does the color of polk cs2 and polk monitor 50's cherry match with the stand?
2)what are the approx dimensions of the two shelves?
3) I am looking to house a Cable box, AVR receiver, PS3 and XBOX. can they all be stacked up on the bottom shelf?

4) How big is the box if i want to do a store pick up. Can it be moved in a car? I don't have a SUV or a friend with one

thanks in advance

ATAPAY,

Very nice clean look, whats the inside size of the shelves (H/W/D) ?

Are the lower parts of the doors frosted ?

Thanks

For my first post I thought i'd comment on our recent purchase with Bush furniture.

I followed you and just ordered the same TV Stand, just a little over $300, and I had $1000 total budgeted for furniture, so I can pass that money to the other parts of the budget, like wiring which I know will probably go over my expected budget.

Anyone know a good cheap electrician/av wiring guy in Long Beach, CA just PM me.

Thanks. I have the DirecTV HD Receiver on the top right shelf and the Sling Box Pro on the bottom shelf.

Center top shelf, I have the Denon AVR-3805 and Panasonic BD-30 Blu Ray player on the bottom.

I use the left shelf to store all my Blu Ray DVDs.

The lower half of the glass door are frosted.

Anybody have the BDI 9640 Deploy Max? Haven't seen anyone post about it on here yet. If so, any thoughts? Is it built well? Looks like a nice piece for a 72" TV.

For those who have the PREPAC BPS-6000 or BPS-4200, how do the DVDs on the doors stay? I dont see anything that would prevent them from falling if you open the door.

Also, how tall is it without the steel legs?

I am looking for a low, DVD storage stand to put under my mounted TV. I want to put my game consoles on the very top of the stand for open air flow. The Prepac is the closest I've seen. Any other suggestions?

I was looking at Z-Line Phantom50 but saw that the cantilever hands can't hold 52XBR4 without tilting down. I stumbled upon a Z-Line stand at Walmart that look similar to the Phantom50 but with different mounting style. The model is ZLN #WM563-44M. After further poking about online, it seems that this model is very similar to Z-Line Vitoria ZL564-44MU. The only difference that I notice is the one from Walmart has clear glass shelves instead of the black glass. The other difference is the one at Walmart cost 50% less than the Z-Line Vitoria. You can look it up on Dell's or tvstands website. (I would've post link but not allow for now).

Has anyone seen this unit in person? I really like the finish, based on these pictures, plus I like that it has two glass door cabinets.. I'm probably going to place a pre-order within the next week as it looks like the units will not be shipping until early May. I was originally looking at the techcraft SWP60, but after seeing it in person at circuit city, I was'nt impressed...

I am looking for stands like this, as I want some doors to prevent dust, but also an open shelf for my center speaker and the drawer could be useful for storing odds and ends out of sight.

How many components do you have? If you have seen my pic on the previous page it is not a problem. This was the only stand I could actually find to hold that center channel. I took a tape measure with me to every store to find a stand to fit the 360. This one works.

Just got this at Costco for $200. Its 60"x23"x20" and comes with a TV mount for a "Floating TV" affect, which I didn't use. It's called AVIO ADARA and it's made by Slam Brands especially for Costco. The frame metal frame is very sturdy and the glass is thick. The gloss black pieces have a very high quality finish to them.

My set is a 50" plasma that weighs ~90 lbs and I'm not confident that the included stand could hold it up safely for an extended amount of time. The tilt and swivel hinges are poorly designed. Not matter how hard you tighten them to lock them in place, they always come undone. Besides that the mounting bracket heels flimsy.

Just got my first panel the other day...a Pioneer 6020. I spent a long time looking for a stand...longer then picking out the TV...my requirements were that it had to be under 16 inches high (wanted the middle of the screen to be at eye level), a darker or black wood, a spot for my 8" high Mirage center channel, and the width had to be larger then the width of the tv. Wound up with a Plataeu SR-V 65...a little pricey at $620...but better then the Salamander I was looking at for double the price.

i just bought the Vitoria stand at BJ's wholesale for $199.
everywhere else it's $400-$450.
i'll go great with my sony xbr3 40" and have enough room for all of my components (onkyo 605, polk cs1, dvr/cable box and all next gen game systems).

the instructions says the mount can hold like 250 lbs and my tv without stand is only about 70lbs. i'll just be scared at forst to have my $3000 tv hanging up there. each shelf can hold 65 lbs (i think thats what the directions say)

can't wait to set it up next month once all the carpet is in the downstairs. i'll post a pic of the finished assembly and equip if i remember to come back here.

Yeah I was looking at that stand at Costco. I ended up looking at the instruction manual. I decided against it because if you're going to use the mount the base stand/mount has to be bolted to a wall. Which is fine if your room is configured that way. In my case the stand sits out from the wall at a 45 degree angle so this stand does not work for my application.

The plasma is a panasonic 50". The speakers are roughly 8" wide. The speakers used to be on stands with my previous setup. Overall, this allowed a smaller "footprint" of stands. The Sanus is, I believe, 69" long on the top.

The center speaker is in the middle behind the center panel which is covered in grill cloth. After some aiming it sounds fine. I had to angle the speaker up to get the right soundfield with it being placed so low. It's great now.

I recently purchased the BDI Avion 8527 with the 8540 wall mount. The mount claims that it fits just about any tv but when I went to install it with my new Samsung ln46a650 I found that the mounting bars pretty much covered every input on the back of the tv. Fortunately, I found out first hand that BDI's customer service is just as good as advertised. I sent them an e-mail about the problem and they replied within two hours that they were aware the problem existed with some of the newer Samsung lcd's and that they had already created an adapter to solve the problem (which they're sending to me next week free of charge).

So, just an fyi for those of you out there considering using the BDI mount with your Samsung, you'll probably need to have BDI send you their adapter.

It was $379. The slide out selves are nice to have but I keep my cable in a tie and not with a lot of slack so I'm not sure the value of it for me. No power strip either. I've been looking around on the internet extensively, but alas I can find nothing that fits my needs. I'm looking for a tv stand that can hold a 46" lcd tv, my ps3/wii/(eventual) onkyo sr705 receiver/(especially) my center speaker channel. Also I'm looking to spend no more the $200 (this includes tax and/or shipping). Note I prefer black, because my tv/ps3/receiver are black

The closest thing stand I could find that I like is this, Init TV stand (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8193536&productCategoryId=abcat0106001&type=product&tab=1&id=1165609791259#productdetail). However I do not know if that could fit all my components.

Does anyone know of a good stand that fits my specifications? Is my budget too tight? Would I have better luck if I could up my budget to $300?

If it helps, I can go for either wood or anything else.

Guys,

I need a stand for a 60" Pioneer plasma, and my requirement (I hope) is simple. The stand just needs to hold the TV and a BIG center channel. No components. My center is the B&W HTM1, which is massive in size and weight.

Right now the speaker sits on top of a sturdy rear projection set. The speaker is 30"W x 13" tall and needs to be up off the ground a bit.

Well allow me to be a little looser with my specifications. Let me just ask this. What are some good furniture brands for TV stands? Also, where's a good place to buy stands cheap (between $0 - $250)?

PIO 1550HD with Z-Line PHANTOM 50 setup. TV is mounted on the stand.

The Phantom 50 recommended by dealhunter999 is an excellent stand. I googled and couldn't find the exact stand available anywhere, but this one at Amazon is very close- http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0013J0GG0?smid=AMHIVZCKN3QEL&tag=dealtime-kitchen-20&linkCode=asn
it is a bit more than the price range you suggested. You might try your local
Circuit City. They carried it, but it is no longer on their website, but a local store might still have one.

Here are a few you could take a look at-

Also, it doesn't hurt to look around at local furniture stores. They often carry nice stands that aren't too expensive.

As for brands- Z-Line, Bello, BDI, Tech-Craft, Bush, and plenty more. Those just pop off the top of my head from our search for one.

Hope you find just what you're looking for.... :)
