I am buying a 58 inch Panny commercial model and looking for a TV stand with integrated mount. Anyone own Z-Lineฎ Vitoria Flat Panel TV Stand with Integrated Mount? The spec says it supports upto 60 inch TV. I am not sure if it is mount that supports 60 inch or only the TV stand. Any clue?

The Phantom 50 recommended by dealhunter999 is an excellent stand. I googled and couldn't find the exact stand available anywhere, but this one at Amazon is very close- http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0013J0GG0?smid=AMHIVZCKN3QEL&tag=dealtime-kitchen-20&linkCode=asn
it is a bit more than the price range you suggested. You might try your local
Circuit City. They carried it, but it is no longer on their website, but a local store might still have one.

i posted this a few pages back...i bought that $400 z-line tv stand for $200 at bj's wholesale.

Looking for a nice multimedia storage in dark/rich cheery. What do you guy think of these? Mainly for HD DVD/BR's and games.
http://www.audio-video-furniture.com/Common/Product/Images/22/5634-L.jpg

If you have other suggestions, please link them! I like the fit n' finish on the last one but I also like the idea of having glass to see the collection.

BEWARE OF THESE! Fully loaded the doors will start to droop and will end up scraping the bottom base portion and overall fit and finish will decay due to warping. We bought two of these style units from a Costco or Sams. I think they build the same design in various styles of wood and panels. For carrying that much weight on the doors it needs to be beefier. We ended up taking off the old hinges and putting on 4 heavier ones and placing some steel reinforcement in the top to help but it still droops. Just not a good design.

I am looking for a nice looking light wood color (light cherry or pecan) or all black AV stand to hold:

40-46 inch LCD flat panel
Pioneer 1018 receiver (almost 7 inches tall)
PS3
Tivo
Small satellite polk center channel

I first looked at our local furniture store but all they had were massive and pretty much enclosed. I am guessing that the pioneer needs better ventilation than that. Would be nice to keep it under 600.00 $US. Anyone know of such a beast?

thanks

I saw this stand at costco [AVIO ADARA posted by "pineapple" and it's made by Slam Brands especially for Costco]. The description says that the glass top supports up to 60" TV, while the mounting bracket supports up to 50". Could you confirm these numbers from the product manual? Also, weights supported for mount as well as glass top. I learnt that Costco sometimes does not have the correct description. Thanks.

The one in BJ(Victoria) is not same as Phantom 50 (was carried by CC only). It has different finishing. It looks alike. I think Walmart also carries them I believe. I have seen both in person (5 mths of research) and decided to pay $200 more. I did not like the finishing at the joints.

My set is a 50" plasma that weighs ~90 lbs and I'm not confident that the included stand could hold it up safely for an extended amount of time. The tilt and swivel hinges are poorly designed. Not matter how hard you tighten them to lock them in place, they always come undone. Besides that the mounting bracket heels flimsy.

This furniture thread is painful to wade through, but ultimately very useful, so I thought I'd try to give something back...

Below are pictures/descriptions/links for a list of stands that I pulled together for my own shopping purposes. The criteria (driven by the size of an alcove we are going to use for a second TV and WAF) were:

- Between 48 and 54" wide
- No more than 26" high (slight mods, like removing or shortening legs potentially acceptable to hit the height limit)
- Wood furniture look - no Star Trek glass/metal shelf units
- Limited open shelves, doors for majority of space in unit
- “Not too expensive” which I found translated to her wanting to spend under $500 if possible. I threw in a couple more expensive units anyway.

Below are the ones I rounded up…she chose the cherry version of the Kathy Ireland stand. This is to go w/a wall mounted Sony KDL46W4100 that will be wall mounted. Hope this helps any of you with similar criteria.

The middle opening after taking out the drawer is 27", just big enough for that speaker. The other openings I don't know off the top of my head, but they may be on BDI's website. I didn't get a great deal, struggled to find much of one. I got great service, a 5% coupon (it's listed on their site) and a discount for not using the free white glove delivery from http://www.dynamichomedecor.com/

that's a 5010. it's really easy to assemble, it just takes time of course. i did it with a friend in a couple hours, just because there are a lot of pieces to unbox and organize.

it'll take up to 60" and there was a 60" LG on it at the store which looked like it had enough room (of course you couldn't set side speakers on the stand like i did).

great stand, highly recommend it. just make sure to measure the depth of your components and the check the depth on the BB site.

My wife had voiced a complaint that she didn't think it would look right to have the stand the same size (or smaller) than than the width of the TV...which is a 60".

I decided to see what else I could find and get her thoughts. Well, I found a different one that I fell in love with. It is wider and looks great to me. I thought she wouldn't bite because of the price, but she agreed that this might be a better option.

A woman's perogative, I guess. My wife keeps changing her mind. Now she's decided on this from Costco.

That's four "decisions" in the past week...the only good news is:

1. It's the cheapest one of all her decisions so far ($319, free shipping)
2. I ordered it last night and told her that we're committed now...no more changes!

After spending months on AVSforum.com researching what TV to buy, I found myself back here researching what stand to display my new TV on. I'm expecting my Panny 50pz800u to be here on Saturday, and today I purchased the Bush VS05850-03 Sonoma stand.

http://common.csnstores.com/common/products/BU/BU2089_l.jpg

I'm really excited to get this all set up and if anyone is interested in this stand I can post pics of my setup when its ready.

I'm actually hoping someone has had some experience with this stand, particularly in this color, and could post pictures or give me some feedback on how it looks so I can continue buying other furniture.

I've been looking at that Bush stand including a few others but I'm not really sure what I want to go with. Reason being I live in California (earthquake country) and am a little afraid that a stand like that in a reasonably sized earthquake won't hold the TV. Does anyone know if a stand that comes with a mount is more secure?

Can anyone recommend me a stand similar to this:
http://www.bello.com/images/products/WAVS-320_Room4.jpg

This stand was sold out at my local store & I might have to settle for something else.
That stand is perfect, 2 cabinet glass doors & a drawer at the top.
It's also very angular, no curves. It is also not too wide which I want.
The only thing that bothers me is the cherry red, does anyone know if they ever saw one in black?

My alternatives for it all look just a little off:

http://www.bush-furniture-online.com/xmodels/bush/VS22547.jpg
Looks like a cheaper uglier version of the above.

http://s7.sears.com/is/image/Sears/05740247000?qlt=90,0&resMode=sharp&op_usm=0.9,0.5,0,0
Good, but has curves one the sides, which is not what I was looking for.
Anyone else seen one like this that was all angular?

http://common.csnstores.com/common/products/TC/TC0200_l.jpg
The bottom design of the stand just looks tacky IMHO compared to the ones above.

Any recommendations to similar cabinets, 2 glass/plastic doors & not any wider?

I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a LN52A550 in the next couple of weeks which I plan on mounting on the wall. Now I'm wondering where I'm going to put my 360,wii, and dvd player.
I have small kids so I can't place my equipment where they can reach it.
Does anyone know of any floating shelves that can support the weight of these devices? Preferably a corner shelf.

The Costco near my home (SoCal) has several new (to me) TV stands...two in particular look great if you have room for a 60" or 61" stand...they have removable back panels for easy access, grills in the shelves for better cooling, one or both of them had wood or glass options for the door panels...I haven't looked on their web site, but this could be an in-store item only.

Don't remember what they were called (one might have been a Camille) but if the space I'm putting my new secondary TV/stand into was wide enough, they'd be pretty high on my list.

Would this stand be OK for a 50" Panny Plasma?

http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Bell-O-73-TV-Stand-AVSC-9870/sem/rpsm/oid/184704/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do

I really like the style of the floating shelf as I would put my PS3 and 360 on it. I'm a bit worried about a plasma sitting on the glass top though.

Thoughts?

The glass is going to be tempered glass, and should be plenty strong, but you should consult w/the CC folks (or look at the online info) and get the specs on stand. It should include some sort of weight capacity.

looks like it'll be a little big for a 50" as it is made for up to 73". mine is made for up to 60" and looks just right for a 50".

I'm looking a fairly wide stand, minimum 70" wide. Living room is fairly wide and requires a wide stand. I will hang the TV on top of that, so it doesn't need to take much weight. Will need shelves (glass doors would be plus) for other AV gear. Any recommendations ?

I'm looking a fairly wide stand, minimum 70" wide. Living room is fairly wide and requires a wide stand. I will hang the TV on top of that, so it doesn't need to take much weight. Will need shelves (glass doors would be plus) for other AV gear. Any recommendations ?

You may not know this, but you can search Racks and Stands for stands based on width (or many other measurements/style choices)...makes it very easy to window shop.

I also wanted (but missed out on) the Shemore TV stand from Costco. I read in this thread that the company was supposed to have a new model (more traditional) in Costco during June. I have not seen it, though there is a new entertainment center from Martin Furniture called the Boulevard TV Console for $299. Has anyone else seen it? This is the company address, though they do not seem to have this model on their site: http://www.martinfurniture.com/

I just purchased the Boulevard about 2-3 weeks ago.....LOVE IT. It's VERY solid....made of solid wood and wood veneers (not the cheap particle board stuff). At the store, I grabbed the stand and yanked it up & down (hold the jokes) to test the sturdiness and I thought it was pretty solid.

BEST PART - NO ASSEMBLY REQUIRED (it comes in one piece).

I bought it at my local Costco in SoCal.

Now, I need to figure out how I can mount my lcd in a "floating" look. Right now, my center channel is placed on top of the tv stand in front of my LCD so it covers a bit of the bottom screen.

I need to buy something like this for it:

http://www.techcraft.net/4105/detail.asp?product_id=1655&category_id=275

I'm not sure this one would work for the Boulevard (it's specifically designed for stands by TechCraft) but am curious to try.

Anyone have other suggestions? I also want to keep my cost under $100.

I don't know if they sell a "T" mount like that, or if you're interested in a pure wall mount, but the Monoprice TV mounts are about the best value out there - incredibly solid and well under $100. I put up my new LCD (Sony KDL46Z4100) using this monoprice mount (it's one that allows extension from the wall), and am extremely impressed by it.

Thanks for referring Monoprice....I'm a big fan of theirs and didn't think they carried tv mounts. But unfortunately, I'm renting and wanted to avoid tearing up the wall (plus having to deal with hiding the wires).

Yeah...I was pleasantly surprised to hear they did mounts as well.

I can see your situation...the mount does require four lag-bolts and I expect would leave an impression ('dent') in the wallboard where it was mounted. Good luck.

Finally, a decision has been made. I've had my TV for a while so I gave into waiting for the Costco Savante series. I ended up going to Circuit City to pick up the Techcraft 60" TV Stand Model: THC SWP60. It's a nice heavy piece of furniture. You have to put it together yourself, unless you want to pay an extra 70 bucks for CC to do it. I opted to do it myself. It took about 2 hours for one person to do it. Tools needed: Philips Head Screw Driver, Hammer (not needed but called for, ended up wood gluing dowels in because they weren't a tight fit), wood glue (not listed but needed IMO). It's ~150 lbs so if you need help get it because it's a little cumbersome to put the top and bottom piece on without a little help. I managed since I am stubborn and didn't want to wait for the wife to get home from work. It took about an hour to put my equipment back in. Wanted to put my Onkyo on the left side under the Motorola STB but it won't fit. There is an 18" opening but with the door on it make it more like 17". My receiver is 17-1/4. The middle shelf is 18 3/4" so it barely fit in there. The center channel is on top.

The furniture fits my decor and my wife loves it. I am impressed with the build and didn't have any problems with the screws as some people were saying on the CC reviews. Just don't strip them by over tightening and you should be fine. I have posted some pics of my setup. I plan to change out the LCD with a 47 or 52 LCD in the coming months, maybe when Sony drops prices and all the other LCD manufactures follow suit.

Phoshizzle, something I found elsewhere on this thread, take a look at the bell'o PP-59B http://www.bello.com/index.php?partition=show_product&categ_id=57&prod_id=186&tab=2
to float your TV above the console. About $200 so it's a little more than you want to spend but a possible solution. Twinbeam uprights attached to the backpanel of your console it would definately be a sturdy mount, especially since it's support extends all the way to the floor. No swivel, no tilt so it might not suit your desires though. A tilt, swivel wall mount might even possibly attach to the stand (call bell'o) One of the things I didn't like about the techcraft (saw one at a local B&M) it pushed the tv too forward over the console top. The other problem was the single vertical beam, it would make for a clean look but would be more difficult to improvise an attachment to a console not designed for it.

I found the Bell'o when I was going to mount my 50" pio. plasma to an Ethan Allen console but since the local EA shuttered its doors I have to find another solution.

I'm currently looking at a Sanus PFFP2. I'm just not sure of how it would look with a 56" wide TV mounted above a 43.25" base (inverted triangle). If anyone has experience or pics I would appreciate a post. I haven't found anyone postong in AVS on this model stand, a few worthwhile post were on amazon though.
Good Luck

I posted this in the 9g pio forum, but thought I would repost it here...

I looked everwhere for a nice stand/credenza that would hold my Pio 111 that actually looks like a piece of furniture (ie: wood) and have enough space for my paradigm center center channel (23" wide x 7" tall) and four components. I finally found this one at Bassett furniture, which comes in 54" and 65" widths in cherry or black.

54" Width (with wood door panel inserts):
http://www.bassettfurniture.com/images/catalog/ProductLarge/96300856S.JPG

65" Width (with glass door panel inserts):

link: http://www.bassettfurniture.com/store/productDetailForm.asp?imgid=984&Seq=1

It hasn't come in yet, but immediately bought the 65" when I saw it in the store. Nice construction, very sturdy hardwood (not particle board), and great finish. Dims are 65"w x 25" d x 26" h. The adjustable cabinet shelves are 22" deep, by 19" wide, and comes with wood, glass, AND speaker fabric door panel inserts. I paid $850.

There are a lot of other pieces in the set, should you want to create a whole entertainment wall with hutches, shelves, etc, and has matching tables and desks. I ended up redoing my whole room with pieces from the collection. Just do a search for "Hanover".

I have this that I bought. I like the looks of it, and in general I like it. However, buyer beware. Here is why.

1. The holes in the back are small, not too small, but small enough that you cannot stick you hand/arm through it to connect wires to your components. Too small also that you will need to prepare some of your components with a cooling fan, maybe.

2. Because the holes are small, means you need to make sure you have longer cables that can go through the back to the front and connect those wires to the component sitting outside the unit. Then put the component in after it is all connected.

3. My AVR is tall so I have to use up an entire left side for just that component, which decreases my number of components that fit to three from four. No VHS tapes. (Need the room above the AVR for venting, and the lowest "rung" for the shelf didn't give it enough room.

I ordered it over the internet and it was packaged very well to try to prevent any bad nicks to it, but unfortunately I still had two. One on the top piece in the back, so it is facing the wall and I have a picture covering it. The one in the bottom piece is on the bottom right and most people won't look down there.

Here are links to my pictures. I am also going to try to embed the pictures, but I can't see them myself, so I don't know if they are actually there. :)

Thanks brother! I actually found this stand at my local "Magnolia A/V" by total accident while running errands today. Been trying to help my folks find something for their newly purchased Pioneer Kuro 6020. Needed something clean and simple that would blend with their classic/contemporary decor and had the proper wood tones to match their other furniture. It was a tall order, but this piece appears to be perfect. I'll be picking it up this week, and setting it all up for them when I visit this coming weekend... I will try and post some additional pics of this stand and their set-up for those who may be interested (Although I need at least 3 posts before I can attach URL's and/or Pics per AVS anti-spam policy, so bear with me....)

I'm looking to purchase a stand/support panel and have it narrowed down to these two

(new poster so no url's allowed)

The loop one from Crate and barrel with the support panel

and the Liverpool Expresso (or Bolero from Costco) that user trublu posted pics of.

My issue is I'd like the TV to be slightly higher than it would be in the Loop stand, so I'm leaning toward the costco/racks and stands one. I'm wondering if those who have it had any issues with it after a few months of use. I would be placing a 42" sharp Aquos on it. The main reservation I have with the unit is build quality, the Loop from Crate and Barrel looks much more solidly built. Also would a 42" be too small of a TV to place on it?

I feel like I've seen just about every stand after reading this thread If anyone has any other suggestions for these types of stands(console/support panel) that I may have missed that would be much appreciated.

Thanks

No problem Jason - I'm actually on my way to pick this up tonight, but won't be unboxing and setting it up until the weekend. I know price talk is generally not acceptable here at AVS but I didn't see this item for sale through any forum sponsers, so figured I would share this bit of advice with you and anyone else who cares to save a buck... Everything Is Negotiable! I got Magnolia A/V down to $540 on this stand. They list this @ $699.98 so I saved $160 without much effort on my part... I honestly didn't work that hard for the deal... if I pushed I probably could have saved significantly more, but I liked the salesman, and know this economy has been particularly tough on guys/gals who work for commissions. He made some money, and I feel like I got a good deal from a very reputable company.

As far as build quality, my first impression is very favorable (they had one on display). I'm probably alot like you... if I'm going to be pay'n what I feel is a premium price for something, I excpect the same in quality.

More details later - Kyle

A question I have with stand (as well as other stands with a glass top shelf) is how are you mounting the braces that are used to prevent the TV from tipping? With my wood stand, you just attach the metal brackets to the TV's base and then screw the bracket to the stand. Are you just securing it to the wall instead?

Thanks!

Ok gang, I'm still not satisfied with my search. I really like the BDI and Salamander (Chameleon) pieces among a few others. However, at the end of the day, I can't get past them lacking the real, solid wood. While light years ahead of your mass-market veneer, particle, MDF, etc, they still bother me.

Thus far, I've been most impressed with Standout Designs (http://www.standoutdesigns.com/). Their pieces are 100% solid wood through-and-through and still offer an attractive design.

While I've already spent days searching, can someone please suggest something solid like the company above? I don't have the time to make it myself. If I venture into the custom order domain:
1) What kind of price range are we talking?
2) I don't want it to look too homemade (if that makes any sense) - i.e. I again want a nice solid wood piece, but I'm not looking for something with and uber-traditional finish (e.g Amish, etc.). This is my fear with going custom.

Thanks!

If I never had to leave that room I'd be very happy.

Sony XBR3 40”
Z-Line Vitoria stand/mount
Polk CS1
Polk Monitor 60’s
Polk PSW111
No surrounds as of yet, maybe soon. I just have the 60’s bi-amped for now
Onkyo 605 Receiver
Scientific Atlanta DVR
Rotating CD/DVD shelf (I didn’t take a picture of this because I doubt you guys care about my collection)
Consoles: Wii, PS2, PS3, XBOX 360, PSP, DS Lite
I also have my Dell laptop and a custom desktop with a 20" widescreen.

Has anyone found a stand for a 40" LCD TV which can also hold a Paradigm CC-570 center channel (it's about 9 x 24 inches) ?

TV placement would have to be lower than that in dh4645's set up. I guess I can always buy a separate AV rack for the components.

the rack i bought has about 8 or 10 different levels that you can install the mount into. i only have it on about the 5th one from the bottom and they drop by an inch and a half each hole down.

actually, my cs1 is only 7" high, so you would probably have to put your tv up higher than mine if you bought the same stand.

if i would have dropped mine down another notch it would have most likely hit the top of the center channel and i wouldn't have been able to place it where i wanted.

edit: nevermind, i think i know what you mean...my stand is too high for your liking. you could always put it on the lowest mounting spot and put your center channel on the middle shelf.

Anybody use Woodcraft? They sell unfinished furniture to various retail outlets.

I was able to find pretty much exactly what I wanted. Well, almost. I will need to cut in adequate ventilation. After that, I'll stain it to match my other furniture.

http://woodcraftindustries.com

They actually have more options available than what they show online, you can customize how many doors and the door styles. Mine will arrive in about 4 weeks. Not bad for a made-to-order piece of furniture.

I'll have to post my pics in a month or so when everything's finished and set up.

MacGuyPA,

Thanks for posting the additional photo of the Bassett Hanover stand. Like you, I've been having trouble finding a stand with a center opening wide enough for my 20" center speaker (and with side sections wide enough for 17" components). Plus I wanted glass doors on the sides, and the whole thing preferably in wood. And not too wide overall. This 65" Hanover is nicer than anything else I've found so far, at a decent price.

I'm going to stop by Bassett tonight and see what price my local store has on the Hanover 65"

(P.S. I swear, would it kill some of these furniture-makers to post the shelf widths on their websites?!)

2) I don't want it to look too homemade (if that makes any sense) - i.e. I again want a nice solid wood piece, but I'm not looking for something with and uber-traditional finish (e.g Amish, etc.). This is my fear with going custom.

Thanks!

Take a look at this...it is veneered and does not have vented shelves, but it's similar in design and has been a great stand for us.

I pulled out the middle drawer (fake two drawer front that is really one double-tall drawer w/a shelf behind it) and have a spot for my center channel speaker on the shelf and a component below it in the middle of the stand.

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q202/RedfleaBucket/furniture-stand.jpg

It's from Lane furniture, I think I paid around $600 for it.

(Link fixed.)

Dimensions (W x D x H in inches):
68 x 25 x 65

We put dual two-door cabinets w/attached bookcase hutches on either side - they are from Thomasville, (about $1,000 each):

http://www.thomasville.com/Products/...lectionRGID=63

Style, color and tone match is excellent...unless you look carefully it appears to be a matched set from an overall perspective.

The Lane stand is extremely solid and well made, we've had it two years and would buy it again in a heart beat.

See the stand I just posted...center opening is 23 3/4" wide, sides are 19 3/4" wide, interior is over 23" deep.

Danabw, I see it and I like it! Especially the price, if I can get a similar deal. I almost went to Lane on Sunday but they were closed by the time I got there. Now I'll definitely check them out.

That's the Laguna Beach model, right? Your links didn't work right for me, here's a good link for Lane:

What is the height? The website says 65" but I think this includes the matching hutch which is pictured on the webpage.

Also what is the height of the center openings (i.e. for the center speaker)?

Thanks-

I have been looking at pictures of some of the Plateau stands.

http://www.plateaucorp.com/download/sr-series.pdf

Has anybody purchased one of these and, if so, what do you think??

Stan, I haven't bought a Plateau stand but they look nice and would apparently meet my size requirements described above. I'm adding the 65" stand to my short list, although I'm not a fan of the aluminum trim.

Here's an image of the 65" stand, dimensions are 65" W x 19" H x 22" D, web price is $999:
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3139/2783460691_242ea2d102_o.jpg

Here's an image of the 75" stand, dimensions are 75" W x 19" H x 22" D, web price is $1149:
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3188/2783460747_63356a4e1a_o.jpg

Side openings are 20" and center opening is either 23" or 33", and the finish is either espresso or cherry.

FYI, I went to the website at www.plateaucorp.com and clicked on the Contact Us link to request a list of dealers. The company sent me an email offering 20% off the web price, with free shipping and no tax. So if anyone is considering Plateau, it's worth requesting the dealer list to get this deal!

Sorry about the link...yeah, that's the right one. The picture shows it w/the drawer in place.

The height is just a tiny smidge under 22". (That's an imperial tiny smidge, not metric.) ;)

The center opening heights are 8 3/4" for the top shelf, and 8 1/2" for the bottom. I have a relatively large center channel from RBH, and it fits easily.

Pacific Sales (if you're in SoCal) also used to sell this stand back when we got it, so you could check w/them as well if you are in the area. We ended up getting it from Lane, as they price-matched the lower price Pacific Sales offered, and had it available in a couple weeks vs. 6 to 8 from Pac Sales.

Happy hunting.

This is the company address, though they do not seem to have this model on their site

I just found the stand you are talking about at Costco in southern california. I went to the Culver City one, where they were sold out and were selling an open box display version of it for $190. I called around, and the La Habra store had 5 in stock, and I picked up a brand new one for $299. It seems to be a great stand as I am not planning on mounting my TV (an old samsung 40" LCD) and the low price is great. I will take some pictures and post for you, as soon as I get everything set up. FYI, the costco order # is 294801 if you want to call stores around you.

EDIT: another plus, its fully assembled.

it wouldn't have enough room for all of my stuff anyway.

I hadn't yet seen your earlier posts above. Sorry. The rack in wojcikc3's post looks like the Sanus AFV48b. If it is, I'm amazed it was selling for $60. MSRP is about $229. And it holds 200 lbs. per shelf. But, as you say, you've bought a rack and don't need another now (though from your photo it looks pretty full).

Thanks Danabw. I hadn't seen the Laurier 52" stand before. Just picked one up at CC last night. Here are my first impressions. This is a HUGE upgrade from what I had previously.

http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Laurier-52-TV-Stand-186885/sem/rpsm/oid/210986/catOid/-12892/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do#availability

Good quality entertainment furniture. Couple things to note.

Full Size Center Channel Speaker fits, but I had to remove the Mesh Door to get it into the opening, and stripped a screw in the process. I cannot rotate the speaker in place now, so make sure you wire it before you put the door back on.

Area for components is a little cramped height wise. The shelves are screwed to the pegs that set height. In order to move them up or down, you have to remove 4 screws, move it, and then reinsert them. Very solid though. Also found that when I moved a shelf up, it made for a much smaller opening for plugs, may need to make a bigger opening or put big cords through before screwing shelf back on.

Wood appears more burgundy in person, not quite as cocoa as the onlune picture shows.

Areas next to center channel are large and you can fit blu-ray or DVD cases standing up in them. Nice to be able to conceal games, etc, that I use often.

Wood seems a little soft, and finish will start coming off quickly if you are not very careful. Might need to pick up a stain pen to recolor a few spots, and I was careful.

Very good euro hinges, although I had to adjust all of them to get them properly aligned and not rubbing on other wood.

Overall a very good piece of furniture that does almost everything I need. For those with a large center channel, and not a lot of wall space, finding furniture can be a challenge, this one works and looks nice. I have a large 400 Disc Sony DVD player that won't fit, but that is because it is over 20" deep on one side, so it won't fit in many stands. I haven't decided whether to modify the back of the stand to make it fit, or put it somewhere else in close proximatey with an IR repeater.

BPeter, are the dimentions listed on CC's website inclusive of the metal legs? (or what is the height with legs)

Are the legs removable? If so what is the height without legs?

Thanks!
Jason

BPeter
08-29-08, 11:00 AM
Jason, I would have to measure, but I am fairly confident that the measurement includes leg height. I wish they were a little shorter to be honest, my tv is a little higher than eye level now. I don't know that you could remove them entirely, since the doors are on the outside of the frame of the bottom, and I think having it sit flat on the floor would make it difficult to open the doors. The legs are hollow from what I could tell, so there is a least a chance you could use a sawsall and a file and make them much shorter and still use the doors. I had a very hard time finding a stand that would do everything that I wanted it too. There are a couple BDI units, but they were at least three times as expensive as this one. I am ok making a few mods if I can get it to work for a fraction of the cost. I measure the inside of the component area at just over 12", but there is a shelf if there, so some of that space is lost if you don't remove it. I may have to remove the shelf of one side and just stack components.

Thanks for the info, and I am starting to understand that there is no perfect stand, at least not for the money I am willing to spend (read no BDI or Salamander :-) ). This Laurier stand with a little leg modification may be the way to go!

Custom built is the way to go. You get what you want and your components fit the stand. You have an option to say how you want airflow & cable management. You could find a local custom cabinet builder to make you one. I do this all the time here in Oklahoma. I have had a few members ask if I would build one for them but shipping is a problem. I don't. If you know of a shipper that would pick up, pack & deliver (in one piece) undamaged, I would. Have your local guy look at my site. finewoodcreation.com for ideas.

Glad it worked out for you! I had suggested that stand as the one to get to my wife, but she didn't think the looks of the legs fit our existing decor, so I got shot down. :( She rules in furniture/fashion choices. (I only get to decorate the garage.) ;)

Funny - I have the same Sony 400 disc DVD changer, and it is a freakin' beast, isn't it?! Not only deep but also quite tall. I have it w/our main TV, 65" DLP on a Lane stand, and luckily that stand is deep enough to hold it.

If I were you I'd mod your stand (by which I think you mean make a cut-out in the back) to fit the changer. If you're careful you can save the piece you cut out in case you want to patch things up later, and having all your components together is a good thing.

Good luck, glad you like it.

Oh - regarding the legs, when I looked at them it looked like they just screwed on. One option would be to look for a shorter set of legs that matched the size of the screw, or put the stand on those sliding discs they have at home stores. That should raise it up enough to clear the doors from the floor...

Just want to share that after a LOT of research, I ordered the BDI Avion 8527 from AxxisDurango (forum sponsor) for the best price and, well, the fastest delivery experience I have ever had! I placed the order by phone on Wednesday afternoon and Friday morning received a call from their shipper, Roadway, that they were ready to schedule delivery. This stand shipped from MO (several states away). It arrived in perfect condition. Great experience. Axxis was in constant contact with me. My local Roadway center rep was very pleasant and the delivery guy had a sense of humor, even at the end of a full day of deliveries.

I had almost forgotten to think of forum sponsors for furniture as well as AV equipment. Won't make that oversight again. John Marty at AxxisDurango is the real deal.

Oh, and the stand is exactly what I wanted. Solid construction, contemporary design, appropriate height for my HDTV, lots of vented storage for my components... If you've wondered about it from the pictures you see on the web, it really is a nice piece. (Of course, I cheated in that a local contemporary furniture merchant had this on display for a higher and taxable price.) And I have never seen anything packed as well. It came attached to a pallet, cardboard box, lined with plywood sides up against Styrofoam cushioning.

It is a lot of money for a stand, but when I buy furniture, I buy for the duration.

Sorry that your experience was different from mine. I found John's first two replies to my e-mail queries had been filtered to an obscure e-mail location. I had a filter set up that prevented me seeing his responses initially. When I found his replies, I noticed that he had sent them within 24 hours of my initial contact. I never fully rely on e-mail. There are just too many places where messages can go astray.

I've had good luck communicating with other forum sponsors as well, but have heard from others here that they didn't receive responses. Sometimes a phone call is in order. The bottom line is that if I want information, I will do what I must to get it. In this case, I could have purchased from a local dealer (and I like to support my local economy), but several hundred dollars' difference? Well, sometimes I support other local economies.

My Transition stand was delivered today. After the truck left (naturally), I noticed one door is missing a knob. The CS rep at the store is going to order a replacement knob for me.

The stand otherwise is great. It has six outlets inside and connecting equipment will be better and easier. Less spaghetti on the outside. Not sure what I'll use the drawers for yet. Even missing a knob, it looks good.

Great looking stand. We have the Z-Lines Design Phantom 50 which is the same basic design, but has chrome legs and smoked glass. Bought it thru CC last November and we absolutely love it. The stand has already survived one moderate earthquake, keeping the Sony 46W3000 hanging stable despite its swaying back and forth. Nothing moved on the shelves even. We love the way the TV is up in the air allowing room for our large center speaker to sit under it as well. Overall, it is a very well made, well designed, attractive TV stand.

This has been a fantastic thread. I've been looking for a nice piece of furniture for my plasma for a year. I was pretty demanding. It needed to look like a fine piece of furniture. Be sized for a future upgrade to a 60" TV. And needed to take a small, okay-sized center speaker. (Aesthetics equalled or actually trumped acoustical perfection.)

Thanks to NDRugby's post, I also chose the BDI Novia 8429 in Cherry. Buying experience from Michael at Dynamic Home Theater was wonderful. They use a wonderful delivery and setup service. $1750 total (incl. delivery). I'm temporarily using it with this 42" plasma and the Paradigm mains. I'll go to 60" when I can and I'm looking for a nice pair of wood shelves to go on either side (along with bookshelf speakers).

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=119349&stc=1&d=1221010705

I demoed several center speakers. Aesthetics was important in that I wanted it to fit inside the cabinet drawer. Sound had to be as best as my hearing can hear. I tried two $1000+ centers. One from ProAc. Then I tried this $160 Aperion Audio Intimus 4C and it sounds wonderful. In this cabinet it sounds wonderful. It is perfectly sized. (Mind you, I only tested for home-theater & TV.)

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=119350&stc=1&d=1221010175

As a wonderful bonus, the cabinet is built great. Solid. Has wheels. Cable management. Ventilation management. And it hides the equipment nicely.

For my entertainment center I wanted something that wasn't too pricey and very open. My girlfriend is an Ikea fan, so while there we stumbled on the Norrebo shelving unit...

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S69821398

Of course it was too high so I just eliminated a shelf. I liked that it gave me plenty of room to work with and the openness gave all the components some breathing room. It's nothing fancy, but I'm very pleased with it. The price online says 230, but we paid 180. Not sure why it's higher online now.

I'm already smoothin up the girlfriend that the center will look sweet above the tv. Wish me luck.

Just got this at Costco for $200. Its 60"x23"x20" and comes with a TV mount for a "Floating TV" affect, which I didn't use. It's called AVIO ADARA and it's made by Slam Brands especially for Costco. The frame metal frame is very sturdy and the glass is thick. The gloss black pieces have a very high quality finish to them.

I just bought one of these today for my 52" Samsung LCD. So you're saying the bracket doesn't look very trust-worthy? I was planning to mount it because I have a 1-year-old daughter that I don't want pulling over the TV.

Per instructions this stand needs to be bolted down to the wall. If you do that it should be just fine.

I'm seriously looking at the Bello WAVS-330 to hold my Onkyo S5100, Mac Mini, left, right and center channel. Amazon.com has it really cheap ($409.06) but I'm a bit confused about something. The one on amazon does not have center dividers while the one on Bello.com has it.

Example:

http://img384.imageshack.us/img384/1301/wavs330roommainqp2.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

I'll be using this with a front projector so I don't have to worry about the weight. Anyone on here got this one? Are the middle dividers optional? I really don't want them as that way I can put my center channel in the middle....

It looks as though the 2 stands could be different sizes. When I was looking I came across that. The smaller sizes did not have the center dividers....the larger ones did. Check out the dimensions.

this thread was great... gave me lots of ideas...

maybe some of you can suggest a specific piece for me... I am looking for something that is low, modern, and wide (at least 65") for my new samsung 52" lcd... I am either going to put the lcd on top of the stand, OR going to mount it on the wall... I don't mind if the compartments are enclosed or open, but I definitely would prefer something wood and in the expresso color. Again, has to be modern/contemporary. Thanks!

Look at BDI's Avion 8529 (comes in espresso) & Avion Noir 8539. It also has an optional 8540-1 pole universal mounting kit that is really sleek looking and you wouldn't have to wall mount it. That is what I am using right now and it really looks great and is fairly low to the floor.

Great thread.

I'm looking for a stand to house a 50" plasma, B&W HTM62 center channel, Pioneer 1018 receiver, PS3, Wii and cable box. I like simplicity and I am looking for the most affordable option. I've seen a few options in this thread, but wondering if anyone can suggest anything else?

Wrong color...but I think mostly meets the rest of your desires, depending on how modern you want it to look...this has nice clean lines. It is from Lane (http://www.lanefurniture.com/), Laguna Beach model...you can purchase it w/out hutch. I think I paid $600.

okay guys, I think I am going to dish out the $$$ for the bdi stand... I am deciding between the avion and the avion noir... I have a samsung series 7 52" lcd which is glossy black, i think it will match more with the noir even though the regular avion looks richer (more expensive, elegant look to it)...

i have a few questions:

1. are the glass areas of the doors on the regular avion dark? Are they black? Some picture makes them look clear while others make them look like they have a dark tint

2. has anyone figured out a way to put in a larger than 7" high center speaker in these units without just leaving the area open? Maybe like putting some sort of cover that blends in with the rest? I know you can just remove the drawer and put the speaker in to get a little more clearance, but when you leave it like that it kinda kills the look in my opinion. I was even thinking of disassembling the drawer and getting the front piece (the face of the drawer with the handle) and figuring out a way to just attach that onto the front of the unit to make it look like its closed. I don't think I will ever need to open it anyway once i install my center speaker in there...

THANKS!

Hey man-

The glass is a dark grey tinted glass, similar to like an auto tint.

The drawer pops out and gives you a shelf to set the speaker on that is 8 1/2 inches high.

i actually spoke to the guys at bdi, and a way to avoid this is to remove the bottom part of the shelve, so basically you can put your larger speaker in and still have the front covered to look like a false wall...

anyone tried this?

btw as much as i love the noir and think it will look a lot better with my samsung 52lna750, the store where i am getting it from does not have it in stock and cant get it for a month... You cant remove the fixed shelf beneath the drawer. It is part of the structure. The only way it works is if you remove the drawer and set it on the shelf. Then it is an open area. There is no way to reattach the "fake wall" unless you screw on your own hardware.

Just got this stand (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20102516) and two of these (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70099026) bookshelves off Craigslist for $250. The center (B&W HTM62) and receiver (Pioneer Elite VSX-01TXH) fit in this thing PERFECTLY. My only concern is whether or not I should cut more cord/ventilation holes into the rear panel (or possibly remove it entirely). There is one 3" or so hole in the back. There is also about a 2.5" gap between all of the shelves and dividers and the rear panel, which helps with routing cables and will probably keep airflow moving. I've given the receiver as much room to breathe above it as possible as well, but I'm still concerned (though I probably shouldn't be).

Looks good...

Regarding cutting...in general, electronics live longer when kept cooler. It's certainly not going to hurt any thing to put a few more holes in the back to improve venting of the heat that's going to build up behind the glass doors. Just cut the holes in a way that your components mask them....you probably don't want to see your wall behind the stand through them. I wouldn't take the hole thing off...it may provide some rigidity for the stand, it will result in a ton of dust inside, and probably won't look too good.

Happy chopping! Put tape on the inside of the backing to reduce chipping/ragged edge issues on the part facing forward.

One thing I forgot to mention...to reduce dust getting into the stand via those holes, you can attach some speaker cloth or other thin fabric over the openings to allow air flow but keep some of the dust out.

I've gone all the way through this thread, and still not quite finding what I'm looking for. Waiting for my 58" Panasonic plasma to arrive (57" wide), and I'm looking for a stand between 60" and 65" wide. Prefer a simple, traditional furniture appearance, solid wood construction, with glass or mesh doors and a light cherry finish. Prefer a center-channel speaker shelf.

BDI makes two stands in the Novia line that are *almost* exactly what I need - the Novia 8428 and the Novia 8429.
http://www.bdiusa.com/avfurniture/novia_8428.shtml
http://www.bdiusa.com/avfurniture/novia_8429.shtml

I love the elegant, traditional design and build quality. But unfortunately I need a size exactly in between these two models! The 8429 (74") is too wide, and just won't fit on the wall where I am placing the TV. The 8428 (52") is too narrow; the 57" wide TV will overhang a few inches on each side, which I think will look awkward.

The Horizon N701 stand from Standout Designs would also be perfect, except it's also slightly too wide at 70":
http://www.standoutdesigns.com/store/pc/Horizon-N701-Furniture-TV-Stand-10p174.htm

This one from Standout Designs is close, at 57-1/2" wide. But I'm not a big fan of the drawers in the middle, wish they made it 6" wider with a shelf in the middle instead:
http://www.standoutdesigns.com/store/pc/Horizon-N582-Furniture-TV-Stand-10p168.htm

So any ideas for a stand similar in appearance to the BDI Novia or Standout Horizon N701/N702, but 60" - 65" wide? I also looked at the Salamander Synergy 236, BDI Meriden, and StudioTech but each is just a little too "modern" for my decor (although I might just bite the bullet and get the Salamander synergy 236 in cherry/black).

I've been looking for a while and I've decided to build a stand for my 37" panny. I'll be housing a sony receiver, center channel speaker, subwoofer, ps3, wii, comcast cable box, and a power conditioner. I've purchased 180 dollars worth of solid 1 1/2" poplar and should start the build soon. Here's a sketchup of the stand.

http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i102/bkaul16/Standshort.jpg
I plan to stain it a dark brown/black.

52" wide, 29" tall, 20" deep. The two front speakers will sit on top with the tv. I will post with updates. Let me know what you think. I see that most people who build use plywood mainly and capped the pieces with solid wood, but i wanted to build something that was all hard wood.

Planning to use masonite for the backing of the lower 3 compartments with solid wood for the backing on the top compartments. The masonite boards will have openings for wires and ventillation, but will be removable via clips on the rear. I got this idea from some of the nicer costco tv stands such as the camille.

Have you removed the bottom of the center drawer? If so, how hard was it to do? I have a 7" center to put in the 7" space. The drawer just won't close. I was planning to sand the inside of the drawer bottom to get another 1/16th of an inch.

My AVR gets warm as well (also an Onkyo), but I leave the door open while I am using it and, like you, I do not have the back covered. Thing is, my old tv stand was worse, but I never noticed the heat output. Are you giving it the whole section, top to bottom, or are you also using that section to house another component on a shelf?

yes, I removed the bottom and back piece of the center drawer. So basically all that is left is the front piece (what you see) and the two side pieces that slide along the rails. I removed the back piece as well because otherwise when you open the drawer, it would push the speaker forward (and if someone accidentally does it, it will push the center speaker forward and teh speaker will fall out of the stand). I just did it in case someone else were to open the drawer, as well as now I can still store some stuff in there and access it.

btw, removal of both pieces was ridiculously easy. Took 5 minutes tops. Its actually assembled like ikea furniture so very easy to take apart...

and as far as my onkyo goes, I put the shelf on the lowest level (and underneith I have a temporary dvd player that is like 2 inches high so it fit), and i put the onkyo on the shelf. It has like 5 inches or so to breathe above it, and the whole back is open. Still overheats like crazy in there. I don't want to keep having to open the door when use (kind of defeats the purpose of having everything nicely organized in this super expensive bdi unit...

My only solution will probably be to install fans, even though I don't have a clue of where to even begin with that...

I would just google tv stand fans. there are computer fans you can pick up for a few bucks that would probably work just fine. My only concern would be with added noise, but you should be able to find a small fan that is pretty quiet. You might look at the Salamander tv stands to see what they do for fans. It's also possible (I haven't looked in a while) that you could buy their fan attachment and screw it into the BDI. Finally, BDI probably offers a fan. Here's what I get from a quick and dirty Google search:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/archive/index.php/t-848436.html

I'll have to look at my middle drawer to see about removing the bottom. That you say it's pretty straight forward gives me confidence.

Thanks.

I tried asking this in the Plasma forum but no one really knew, they suggested I ask here.

My new Panasonic TH-65PZ850U arrived today, and I had a Bello WAVS-330 (http://www.bello.com/index.php?partition=show_product&prod_id=180&categ_id=47) cabinet waiting here for it as well. I didn't have room to put it together until my old giant RP CRT was removed, so yesterday I finally was able to put it together.

I discovered that the cam locks seemed very brittle. Almost like they were supposed to be tempered, but weren't. I've put together furniture that uses cam locks in the past, and my experience is that you can usually hand tighten it as hard as you can get it and it's fine. Overtightening with power tools usually breaks the wood on the furniture before it breaks the cam lock.

Usually I tighten cam locks by hand only to the point where they "lock" in place, but when I did that with the cam locks that came with the WAVS-330, they cracked right apart!

I still put the stand together, but I did it by only tightening the cam locks by about 1/8 to 1/4 of a turn after I began to feel them just start to tighten. (I had some extras.) Frankly, I don't have confidence that the stand is sturdy due to these brittle cam locks.

Does anyone have any experience with this stand, or other stands by Bello that use cam locks? Does this seem normal, or does it sound like I received defective cam locks?

I'll be using this with a front projector so I don't have to worry about the weight. Anyone on here got this one? Are the middle dividers optional? I really don't want them as that way I can put my center channel in the middle....

I put mine together (albeit with the cam lock issue) without the center shelves. I used to have a Pioneer Pro 710 HD, so it had a nice top where I had my Polk CS1000P sitting, and on top of that, a custom hand blown plasma tube made by Wayne Strattman (http://www.strattman.com). The Bello WAVS-330 stand was the only stand I could find that accommodated both of these, but only with the center shelves and drawers removed.

While the center piece does not do full load bearing, there is a piece about a half an inch thick that attaches at the very top (behind that piece with all the door handles) that comes out by about 10 inches or so from the back. There's four "feet" on the bottom center of the cabinet, so it does transfer some load. What I did on mine since I wasn't using the center shelves was get a 2 x 8 piece of dimensional lumber. I cut it to exactly 22 and 5/16 inches long, and it fit very snugly in the back, coupling with the top and bottom shelves. I secured it in place with three wood screws through the back panel. I painted it with Liquitex Mars Black acrylic (mixed with a little matte medium), and it blends in there very nicely.

The center shelves do help stabilize the unit, but, there is also a back panel which attaches to the stand with 25 screws around the perimeter, which I think does the most to really square it up and stabilize it.

I'm not a structural engineer so I'm praying everything holds. I would be much more confident if I didn't have that issue with the cam locks (described in my previous post).

I have a 180 pound Panasonic TH-65PZ850U on top of it, it seems to be very sturdy so far.

http://tommycatkins.com/bello1.jpg

Here's the work in progress. Sorry about the mess. I kept the two cabinets that came with the Pioneer Pro 710. Yes, I have five Adcom amps. (The bottom two do left, right, center, and subwoofer; the top three do five surround channels. The "back center" surround uses two speakers.) I have yet to put in the Crystalio scaler and Blu-Ray HDSDI DVD player.

http://tommycatkins.com/bello2.jpg

Here's a closeup of the bottom looking at it head on. The black acrylic comes out looking kind of messy in the picture, but to the eye, you can't really see the "messiness" factor. It looks like it belongs there. :)

http://tommycatkins.com/bello3.jpg

Again, it looks messier in the picture than it really is. Because it's a 2 x 8, it comes out just a bit over 7 inches, so you have to make sure you put the set towards the back of the stand to get it to transfer some load.

After searching and searching and finding nothing I designed a stand that fits my needs. Essentially I want a wooden stand, no wider then 60", no taller than 23" and with a big center open area (with adjustable shelf). The goal is to put a center channel speaker and a receiver with PLENTY of ventilation.

Now I need to find someone who can build it for me, or one that fits the design. The sketch is missing the shelf in the center but you get the idea. I am probabaly being too particular with things which is why I cant find anything already built that I like.

Now I need to find someone who can build it for me, or one that fits the design. The sketch is missing the shelf in the center but you get the idea. I am probably being too particular with things which is why I cant find anything already built that I like.

I like your design. The vents on the side are something i would never have thought of. What color would you go for? I personally like the dark black/brown color that is popular among modern furniture nowadays. I will be staining my new tv stand that color once i finish building it.

In terms of you not finding what you liked, ur design looks alot like the markor tv stand from Ikea, which is made out of solid spruce and looks like it would fit your needs.

I need someting that "fits the decor" of the room. There are some pieces of light oak furniture in the room, but I am starting to think that too many pieces of the same color would be weird. Who says all wood pieces in a room must match in color?

Thanks, the markor loos interesting for sure - a fair bit taller than what I wanted but 300 vs 1000+ to have one built leave room for comprimise :-)

I have the Markor and the only problem I had with it was it needed more holes in the back panel. I drilled a total of seven more (three in the top center for ventilation, two in the bottom center on either side of the existing hole for cord routing, one in the middle of each of the sides for cords/extra air).

Took me 5 minutes to drill the holes and I'm glad I did.

I picked up my Panny 50" about 4 weeks ago. I searched and searched for an entertainment center solution and I even read this thread all the way through. I almost returned the TV because the search was yielding no results...

Then I considered building one myself, but ended up too concerned about the potential finish quality issues because the wife and I decided black would be the best way to go.

It took 3 weeks to figure everything out, but I decided I'd give the StudioTech U22T a try. I'll I'd like to say is that this stand is everything good you've ever read about it. I can't begin to explain just how good the finish quality is on this thing. It's absolutely FLAWLESS. The stand itself is really nothing magic, but it's designed intelligently, fairly flexible, and very nice looking in my mind:

It must be nice to have that kind of space available for your setup. And the stand looks good, though it would have been too short and too wide for my place.

My Hooker Furniture Transition stand is up and running but presented several challenges. I had to make some setup compromises, but it looks good, and the setup does too. The Transition does have class, but I would warn that it may not be the best choice if one has large equipment to install, say, taller than 4.5". And be sure you have flexible interconnects.

I picked this up last week from Ikea for $150. Holds up to 220lbs. Seems really sturdy. Nice touch with the included center post. I left the drawers off to hold more components. Comes in beech or black/brown.

After much searching, I finally found a TV stand that works in my room. I've been looking for a 60"-65" stand with a traditional furniture appearance, glass doors on either side and space for a center channel speaker in the middle. I looked very closely at the BDI Novia 8429 and the Standout Designs Horizon N701, but both were just too wide for my space at 74" and 70" respectively. I would have bought one of these products if they just made a 60-65" wide version that would fit along my wall (I even inquired if they would make custom sizes; neither would). The wife nixed anything with metal construction or an otherwise modern appearance, so the 65" wide Salamander Synergy was out also.

Anyway, I finally stumbled upon the Crate and Barrel Hayden 65" media console: http://www.crateandbarrel.com/family.aspx?c=994&f=27084. Price is $1199.

The build quality and materials are pretty good, but not quite up to the standards of BDI or Standout Designs. It is constructed from 3/4" thick cherry-veneered plywoods and cherry solids, with a dark cherry finish. It lacks some features like removable backs, clever wire management, and ventilation that BDI and Standout Designs provided. It does however come with a center-channel speaker shelf with door that is hinged on the bottom (the front panel of the door has interchangeable speaker grill or cherry wood inserts). Also has a media storage drawer at bottom center.

A good stand overall, and exactly the size I was looking for. But ventilation was probably the weakest point - with glass doors and only two small wiring slots in the rear of each cabinet, I was concerned about heat buildup for my components. So I took some cues from BDI and Standout Designs and modded the stand for active cooling. Here's what I did:

Routed two 3/4" wide slots in the bottom of each cabinet and in each shelf
Stained the slot cuts to (roughly) match the cherry finish
Used a hole saw to cut two 3" holes in the back of each cabinet
Bought 4 80mm Nexus Real Silent Case Fans ($10 ea) and powered them with two 7V DC power adapters (bought on ebay for $10 ea), 1 per pair of fans in each cabinet.
Installed the fans with #8-32 x 2" machine bolts, with hard drive isolation grommets (taken from an antec PC case) for vibration isolation.
Taped over the wiring slots in the back of each cabinet to ensure air is drawn up through the slots in the bottom of the cabinets, and past the components.

The case fans are designed to run at 12 Volts, but I'm running them at 7V just to make them a bit quieter. The fans are doing a great job keeping my components cool. The fans draw 0.34 W each at 7V, so that's about 1.4 W total. I leave the fans running all the time. They are inaudible unless you put your ear right up to the TV stand. More information on the fans can be found at Silent PC Review (excellent resource!): http://www.silentpcreview.com/article689-page2.html#nexus.

I also hole-sawed a 1-1/4" wiring port on the inside of each cabinet (wires pass through the top of the middle drawer space) so I could run wiring from components in the right cabinet to the receiver in the left cabinet without running the wires out the back of the stand.

Anyway, here are pictures of the mods and the stand in it's new home (the TV is a Panasonic TH-58PZ850U). My wife and I are both very pleased with the result.

One question. What are the dimensions of the spot for the center speaker?

Just measured it... the center channel shelf is 20-1/2" wide, 9" high, and 18-1/4" deep.

One other point about this TV stand... the equipment cabinets are 18-1/4" deep, which is less than many other TV stands. I measured ahead of time to make sure all my components would fit, but my Yamaha receiver has less than 1/2" of clearance to the glass door with all the connections on the back (those coaxial digital connectors stick out a bunch!).

Anyone have any ideas on a less expensive wood stand? I love the ones from Bell'o, Sanus,
BDI, but I just can't afford another $1500.00 or so. I'm looking for one with a hole for the center speaker, and glassed in cabinets on either side. Maybe 60" wide or more. Am I hoping for too much for a price around $500.00?
Thanks,

Hi Gurion, hope you got my reply on your private message. Anyway, it's found on our local costco store. Also, costco doesn't seem like they keep the same inventories on their website with their locals stores. The only ones i found online that seem interesting before was the Z-line stands but the base would be too narrow for my 52" TV and i can't find them on the local stores not to mention costs twice as much. So the whalen stand works out perfectly for me (features and price).

I happened to be in my local Costco again tonight, and while I was passing through the TV section I took another look at that stand. It's not exactly my cup of tea, but I looked for more information for those who are interested in it. The one at my Costco is made by Bayside Furnishings. If you go to their website, though, you'll discover that Bayside Furnishings is "by Whalen."

http://www.bdiusa.com/avfurniture/avion_8527.shtmlAVION 8527 (65") or 8529 (77") excellently made stand. Cherry or Espresso.
Stands have Stainless steel legs and handles. Legs have bulit in WHEELS & STABILIZERS. Wire Management throughout. Back has sliding doors that have ventilation slots built in. Shelves have ventilation as well.

Hi Jeff_DML - Not sure if you saw this, but that sideboard just went on sale in the lighter finish, if you like that...

That cabinet is large... ventilation usually isn't a big issue unless the space inside the cabinet is tight with all the components packed-in close to each other. And it looks great. ...just my thoughts.

I like both of these stands for my Sony Bravia W-Series KDL-52W4100 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV. Again, the stands are the AVIO ADARA Pineapple posted and the Whalen 3 in 1 Flat panel console rexb610 posted.

I saw a post here (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=14658827#post14658827) though saying that to mount the TV to the floating mount, you would have to bolt the stand to the wall, which wouldn't be an option for me in the rental home I'm in. So if the Whalen doesn't have that requirement, then I'll try to go with that one if available.

I'm still in the market for another 46" TV, this one for our bedroom, and I'm going to need another stand for that too.

Before, I had a SANUS SYSTEM Flat Panel TV Stand Platinum Furniture ( Black ) (http://www.amazon.com/SANUS-SYSTEM-Panel-Platinum-Furniture/dp/B000BCZ97Q/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?tag=slickdeals&ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1226593228&sr=8-1) which I really liked for my 40" Samsung 1080p LCD 4095 TV. It was in my bedroom, but got damaged in fire at my home recently. My complaint on this one was that it was a bit low for my needs. Our initial preference was to mount on the wall, but because of stud placement, we didn't have that option. As our house is being rebuilt, we'll try to see if they can put something in place so that we can mount on the wall. Also this time around, instead of a 40", we'll probably keep a 46" in there.

I'd like something in a lighter color of wood with doors (glass or otherwise that will let a remote work). Any suggestions? I have a 50" plasma. I've looked through a good portion of this thread and followed links, and I haven't found anything yet that will fit my speaker.

Thanks in advance!

Go to BDI (one of AVS sponsers) check out the AVION 8527. Center drawer is removeable and inside is COMPLETELY finished with wood venneer like the outside. Unit comes in a beautiful Light Cherry color. Wire management is excellent, built in vents keep equipment cool. Unit is made of medium density fiber (MDF) which is solid like a rock, most furniture is made of this. Also has recessed WHEELS and LEVELERS built into the legs
Only downside to this unit is the price. However it pops up on sale once in a while.

Whalen Technology 3-in-1 Console. A perfect stand I found, by accident. Shown with LN52A650. Perfect stand height and space for those who care about the center speaker. The TV height is at minimum so it could probably be able to fit some of those tall B&W center speakers. A good amount of space, depth, and weight capacity for equipment.

AVImpulse, nice set-up you have there. That stand was my first choice but haven't have the luck to find it. How much and where did you find it? I settled with the Whalen 3 in 1 with the curved legs from Costco.

Please don't take this the wrong way, I am just offering what hope to be constructive criticism. Why do most of the set ups here have the L/R speakers so close to the TV? Maybe you sit closer then I do, but to get closer to the optimum triangle for speaker placement, spreed those speakers out. Also get those center speakers centered, ok can't have them blocking the view, but up off the floor, closer to the bottom of the viewable portion of the screen would be better, or just over the top the screen, although over the top poses problems for most set ups, ie, looking ugly. I see expensive and inexpensive speakers in this thread placed in wired spots, most of the time just way to close to the screen to get a broad sweet spot larger then 10inchs of head space, directly in the center of the room/couch/chair. Are you all single? JK. I hope that is constructive and not destructive to all your egos ;):p. No really, some have space limiatations like walk ways, WALLs, etc. but some set ups...mmm I am like please just put another 2-3 feet between those L and R speakers, for the sake of my voyeuristic ears, move them! lol I am done now, nice stands people.

Because of this thread I was considering BDI, Salamander, Standout Designs and a piece from Crate& Barrel. None of them was perfect match for us so we ended up going with the Shemore Stand from Costco. As people have mentioned, a lot of bang for the buck for $400 and we are happy with it. See attached with some of the different configurations.

I've noticed that a lot too, pretty crazy, isn't it? All those poor speakers must be feeling very claustrophobic crowded so closely together like that! :p

I think it comes down to three reasons:

1. Space limitation - as you mentioned, i.e., no other choice as there is literally no extra room available to spread them out.
2. Ignorance - some people just don't know that they're not supposed to do that and why.
3. They DO know that they're not supposed to do it, but the aesthetic room layout/spacing concerns matter more to them than the compromised speaker performance they end up with as a result of such close-quarter positioning.

Hello:

I am looking for a stand that will accomodate a 60 inch Pioneer F151, as well as a Mythos 3 Center (25 inches long, about 5 inches tall), and a Pioneer SC-07 (8 inches tall).

I would prefer to find a stand where the center is not enclosed, so as not to muddy the sound. An open stand with plenty of ventilation would be ideal.

I had high hopes that the StudioTech HF33 would fit the bill, but discovered that the support posts are 19 inches apart, so that prevents the use of my center.

So far, the Bello 2061E is the leading contender.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I bought the Bello 2061E because it was open and had the room for my equipmrnt and center speaker. I currently have the 1150 Pioneer Elite but will be upgrading to 60" Elite sometime next year. I looked for a long time and this piece fit the bill for around $700.

Does anyone have any experience with the Bello FP-2125 and the Pio 151? http://www.bello.com/index.php?partition=show_product&prod_id=230&categ_id=39

I ran accross one review that said the Pio 151 required some "rigging" to fit this, but otherwise looks perfect for the application and allows the center speaker to be "free" ;)

I would say very good. Back panels are detachable so I ended up just leaving them off and the shelves and bottom part of the cabinet are vented too.

Sorry for the crap pics, only have a dummy camera. :) I'll try to take some with better lighting.

Regarding the 40" on this stand, it's up to you. To me as long as the base of the stand is wider than the width of the TV it's fine. I would go off on a limb and say a 40" will look fine on this stand.

Question: Did you have to use the spacers on the back when you attached the mounting rails? It seems that I do not need them and I am not sure of their purpose. Also The long screws do not meet any resistance but I am hesitant to use them. I have never mounted a dlat screen before so I am being cautious.

On some tv's the mount holes are recessed so instead of having the mount put pressure on the whole panel itself, using the spacers puts the pressure on the mounting hole area.

I agree with AVImpulse. With mine Samsung 52A550, i had to use extra spacers. I used the provided screws that came with the mount stand.

I can't decide what to do. I currently have a Sanus PFPL (http://www.sanus.com/us/en/products/ProductDetails/line/AVFoundations/pcat/platinum/modelCode/PFPL/) in Silver (they didn't make it in black then). It worked really well for my old TV:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3288/3079008359_e074a83194.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/meatwad650/3079008359/)

I really liked the height the TV was at. However, it doesn't work as well for the new TV:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3291/3079034987_751959e860.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/meatwad650/3079034987/)

the TV is a bit lower, and I liked the old height. Also, the other problem is that while it looks fairly wide it's just a bit too narrow - if the side posts weren't so big I could move my PS3 up on the top shelf, but as it is the thing is packed:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3016/3079872178_0c323ac06e.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/meatwad650/3079872178/)

and there is no more room for gear! That's horrible!

So I'm deciding what to do. I can't go with a three wide unit - I don't have room (they're about 65" usually). I need to stick with something that's a two wide unit like I have (around 42" or so). I've only come up with two options, both from Salamander:

Synchro Furniture Mate (http://www.salamanderdesigns.com/accessories/syfm1.jsp) which is kind of a cool stand thing, if I can get the fork part under my current stand. It could let me move the TV up off the top of the stand and put my center channel up there, move my PS3 up to the top shelf, and then when I get my Oppo 983H or DVDO Edge (haven't decided yet) it could go below the cable box.

Another option I've found, also from Salamander, is Synergy Twin 30 with Center Speaker Shelf (http://www.salamanderdesigns.com/syn/synergy.jsp?modelbase=snc30). That unit would let me do the same thing - get the TV back up a bit higher, (and also get the center channel level with the fronts!), and since you can use all the width I can put the PS3, 360, and Center on the top shelf and then have the cable box, Wii, and Mac on the middle shelf. I like that idea since it doesn't have any gear really stacked.

If anyone has any similar ideas I'd love to hear them. :)

Check out the whalen 3-in-1 stand i use for my 52A650. i didn't want to deal with the wall mounting work (finding the studs, etc.) and it probably would have been more costly for me since I would have bought a mount and a stand/credenza for the equipment. I liked how I had more flexibility with fine tuning the tv position and I knew I wanted my speakers pulled away from the wall more, thus I'm able to have my tv in a similar plane as the speakers (you could probably get a extendable wall mount, but not sure about the reliability). I think maintenance with the cables might be easier with the stand too. If you had a basic wall mount wouldn't you have to have someone hold the tv while you connect/disconnect stuff in the back of the tv?

I need some help. I really like the salamander synergy stuff, but it won't fit my center speaker. I was looking at a triple 20 with the top row open for the center speaker and the bottom with mesh doors for the amp, dvd, etc. The only problem is the interior height on that top row. Salamander lists 8.5" while Paradigm lists the Studio CC-690 Center as being 9.5" tall.

Any way to make it work? Anything that looks similar to the synergy stuff that would work? I can't seem to find anything that is short (preferably under 21") and wide enough that also has enough room for my components and the fairly large center speaker.

You could get a Twin 10 (http://www.salamanderdesigns.com/syn/synergy.jsp?modelbase=sn10) and add a Twin Riser (http://www.salamanderdesigns.com/syn/synergy.jsp?modelbase=snr), which is available in 10", 11", and 12" in addition to the stock 8.5". It will probably be more expensive than the original option, though.

All:
Thanks to all of you who contacted me with suggestions for a stand.

After thinking about this carefully, I ended up ordering a BDI 9428 for two reasons: 1) the top shelf holds 200 pounds--I wanted the option to put a 65 inch flat screen on top and 2) it was the only "open" stand that I could find that would fit my large center (Mythos 8: 6 x 28) and my proposed receiver (Pio SC-07; 8 inches tall) at the same time (with a television on the top shelf).

I was pretty apprehensive about ordering something so heavy and expensive by mail order, but I ordered from racksandstands.com and kept my fingers crossed. (They were aces--even price matched after I had placed the order).

One day after placing the order, I got a call asking me to schedule a delivery time for the next day.

The big carton arrived today, strapped to a pallet. Although I only opted for free back of truck shipping, the driver helped me get the thing in the garage without my even asking (I gave him a generous tip :) ). From there, I was able to lug all 205 pounds in the individual cartons inside.

After reading some horror stories, I was prepared to have missing or damaged parts--especially the glass, but BDI packed everything amazingly well. Everything was easy to find and the instructions were very clear. I was able to get the thing together by myself in about 2 hours.

It looks more expensive than it was, is built like a tank, and even my wife likes it. :)

I have two tips for anyone who purchases this stand: 1. get two wooden blocks or 2 x 4's to rest the stand on when you put it together--there are two screws that should be tigtened last that are only accessible from the bottom. It's a lot easier to get to them if the stand is elevated. 2. pretest all screws into the holes they are meant for--makes doing some of the "blind" fastening easier if the hole has been "primed".

Anyway, thanks again to the forum members--the information and pointers you provided really made this a whole lot easier!

Anybody own a Plateau SR-V? Or able to recommend another enclosed cabinet with space for center speaker, cherry-ish wood, 65"-ish wide by (here's the hard part) under 20" high?

My problem: I have a lowslung couch, so my eyes are 33" above the floor when I'm in TV-watching position. I sit about 10' from the TV. I'm getting a 52" LCD (Samsung LN52A630) plus Polk 3.1 speaker setup (TSi100B's, CS10B, PSW10).

Almost every enclosed cabinet I can find seems to me way too tall. Allowing for the stand & the (narrow) bezel, a 19" stand would put my eyes at almost exactly 1/3rd of the way up the screen; anything taller puts my eyes even lower.

Am I wrong to obsess over this height thing??

Leading contender is the Plateau SR-V 65 in cherry: 65w x 19h x 22d
There's no dealer in my area (I asked Plateau), so I can't go look at one. Love to hear about wire management, general quality. I can't post URLs yet, but you can see pics at DynamicHomeDecor dot com.

Secondary contenders, both of which I like a lot except for height:
* BDI Avion 8527 in cherry: 65w x 22.5 h x 22d
* BDI Meriden 8127 in cherry: 65w x 21.5h x 22d
The Avion is my favorite, looks-wise.

The front speakers are 7" wide and will sit on the console beside the 50" wide TV because of space constraints -- hence the need for 65" of width.

Pilk -- Thanks! Great suggestion, and I do love the look. Problem, though, is the 70" width of the Horizon N701.

The wall the TV will go on is off-center to my sofa, and the wider the stand, the more off-center from the sofa the TV would have to be (assuming the TV is in the center of the stand). 70" is reeeally pushing it. Argh!

The Laurier 52" from Circuit City has dropped in price considerably. They took another $100 off. Just picked one up, for $216.

Pilk,

Just got the color samples from Standout Designs. Took 1 day to deliver. The wife and I like the espresso sample. We'll be ordering the N702 after the holidays. Again, thanks for your post and pictures. I've been searching for the perfect TV/Component stand for a good 6 months and I finally found it. Take care.

Same here except I will probably get a black N701. Looks like very nice stuff. I like a little bit lower stand but I'm a little concerned about fitting all my gear in the N701.

I looked hard at the Salamander Synergy stands but like the idea of an all wood assembled product.

Maybe Sanus Euro EFAV Mk II? They're only 40.5" wide, but modular, so you can add shelves as needed. The top shelf holds 250 pounds. I have a 3-tier one, which totals 30" high and gives me space for (excluding the top) six components, more if they can be stacked. There's 8 in. between shelves. Or Classic Wood 320, which is 44" wide with glass doors and two drawers, at 25" high. Check Audio Advisor for more info.

Haven't found the perfect stand for me yet, but I did find this new model from Salamander that I'm in love with and haven't seen anyone mention.

Salamander Madrid 7022:
http://www.salamanderdesigns.com/madrid/index.jsp

70w x 22h x 21.25d. Cherry or Wenge finishes (Salamander site says Wenge (dark wood) coming in 2009). Sliding rear panels, pullout media drawer, sliding glass side bits, open space (21.875" wide) for center speaker).

Looks like Salamander is trying to compete with BDI for the "looks like real furniture" prize! Doesn't have those knockdown-furniture connector bits showing on top like the Synergy series does. Ships fully assembled, yay!

Salamander site gives the suggested price -- much like BDI Avion 65" models.

I am going to buy a Samsung LN52A750 tv soon and I'm looking for a stand.

I've had one heck of a time finding one exactly like I'm looking for. I want a relatively tall stand (30"-36"). I want the stand to be 52"-60" wide and 20"-24" deep. Finding one with those measurements has been extremely difficult.

These are the ones I've found that best match what I'm looking for, but not perfect matches:

Has anybody put a TV way off-center on top of a media console?

A designer in a furniture store suggested today that I get a long console (say 75") and put my yet-to-be-bought TV (which will be 50" wide) over well toward the right side, balancing it visually with a tall vase of something over on the left side. When we "drew" it on her computer screen, it looked nice. Anybody seen this approach in the flesh?

This would mean the center speaker wouldn't be centered under the screen, but I would think the small displacement (6" or so) wouldn't be a big deal....?

That would solve a bunch of other dilemmas for me -- putting the TV directly in front of the sofa, for one -- and let me get the BDI Novia 8429, which is 74" wide:

If the center line of your center-channel speaker will only be 6" off the centerline of your 50" TV when your TV is positioned as suggested you can, in all likely hood, get away with this offset positioning.

Most folks are unaware of what the "optimum" positioning (recommended by Dolby) is for dialog (center channel) speakers for commercial movie theaters. That recommended positioning (shooting through a perforated screen) is for the C-C speaker to be exactly centered behind the screen from left-to-right and, up 60% to 75% from the bottom of the screen.

The reasoning is obvious; most critical on-screen dialog, such as in a conversation with two actors on the screen would emerge from the actors' mouths around this area.

Fortunately, our ears are probably the most adaptable, while at the same time, most easily fooled sense when our mind is comparing visual to auditory content. As a speaker designer myself I can tell you that, as long as you watch your TV while facing it (as opposed to watching while laying down and turning you head sideways) your two ears which will have almost identical direct path distances (to the C-C) and will send the corrective correlation info to your mind that what you're seeing and what you're hearing will be coming from the same place. In other words, for your your slightly skewed TV vs. C-C in a drawer set-up your mind will most likely be able to compensate.

The one caveat to a "C-C in a drawer" set-up is that you are, in effect putting your C-C in a trashcan-like chamber. And that simple action will radically alter the C-C's frequency response AWAY from the speaker designer's "as-designed, as-intended-to-sound response. A C-C placed in the open air on top of a cabinet but still below the TV has a much, much better chance of sounding more natural and accurate.

Does putting a center speaker in a somewhat open stand like this: http://www.bdiusa.com/theater/icon_9429.shtml still mess up the center channel as badly?

comptr,,,have you thought of having a stand custom made by a local furniture manufacture . You can design your own with your own needs in mind,,,the choice of real solid wood and finish,,you get what you want, and need,,and very often for no more,,or less then one from retail outfit,,,,that is often partical board and not fitting your needs. I just ordered mine to day.

After searching for the Whalen XL-1 for several months, I finally gave up and found an acceptable stand on racksandstands.com, the Atlantic Stealth. This one has a metal frame with tempered glass shelves and a wood center cabinet. I think it's some kind of pressed wood, but I wasn't too concerned because I think it's not load bearing and I'm not putting anything heavy inside there, just some cables and a center speaker.

The top shelf is supposed to hold 100 lbs and the side shelves are supposed to hold 65 pounds each.

It weighs 86 pounds, double my Samsung ln46a750!

Hey gents, the Boxing Week sales are on in Canada so I want to pull the trigger on a cabinet. I need it to hold at least six components. Ideally, it would house the CC speaker as well, but most units don't seem to accommodate larger sizes (I'm aiming for the Paradigm CC-590 which is about 9.5" tall).

My shortlist:

BDI Avion Noir (8539)

http://img144.imagevenue.com/loc1141/th_45535_avion_noir_8539_122_1141lo.jpg

BDI Cassini (8629)

Salamander Synergy Quad

I love the way the Cassini looks, but it offers the least amount of space. On the other hand, the Synergy is the most spacious (albeit still not spacious enough for my future CC) but I'm not a big fan of its aesthetics. The Avion Noir ends up falling in the middle for form and function. Admittedly, the only one that I've been able to see in person was the Avion Noir. If anyone has any advice, I'm all ears!

I am looking for a stand to hold all of these components:

Top Shelf to hold LCD 52" TV (51" wide, 110 pounds)
Middle shelf for Speaker (23.5" wide, 14" deep, 7.75" Inch high, 37 pounds)
Bottom Shelf that can hold Receiver (17.125" wide, 8.5" high, 18.1" deep, 54 pounds)

The receiver runs fairly hot, so the stand needs to be open, or there needs to be a cooling fan option of some sort (or a lot of space around the unit). The speaker is unfortunately also no lightweight, but the combination of the two heights is probably the biggest problem area. If possible, it would be nice if the unit was able to hold a 62" TV for somewhere down the road. Ideally, the unit would be wide enough that I could get other components in the unit, also have to deal with a SA 8300, PS3, DVD-recorder, etc. A matching audio rack would also be nice.

In terms of fairly open stands, I've been looking at:

Studio Tech PS-33 (http://www.studiotech.com/products/plasma_tv_stands/performance_series_ps-33/index.html)

http://www.studiotech.com/misc/thumbnail.ashx?image=/images/products/photos/large/performance_series_ps-33_ps-33_b_b.jpg&width=230

This, unfortunately, is not quite tall enough in the components (it's close), and not deep enough for the receiver. At least the speaker can be centered up. And it holds a lot of weight.

StudioTech HF-33 (http://www.studiotech.com/products/plasma_tv_stands/high_fidelity_hf-33/index.html)

http://www.studiotech.com/misc/thumbnail.ashx?image=/images/products/photos/large/high_fidelity_hf-33_hf-33_b_b.jpg&width=230

This one comes with optional leg sections to get it high enough, which is good, and has coolers as an option. However, the 19.5" spacing in the middle probably isn't big enough to clear the speaker (I need to check out where the speakers really are on the unit, it's at least close). But again, not deep enough, although I might be able to hang things out the back a bit. And the stand is able to support a lot of weight.

Salamander Synergy Triple 20 with Center Speaker Shelf (http://www.salamanderdesigns.com/syn/synergy.jsp?modelbase=slc20)

http://www.salamanderdesigns.com/syn/imgs/lineart_slc20.gif

This is configurable, and if I skip the doors and sides, pretty much open. I looked at the Archetype TV65, but that doesn't look quite deep enough, and the center section is again, not 23.5" wide for the speaker. The Synergy line at least lets me open up that area, as it's customizable. What I cannot seem to find on the Salamanders is weight ratings on the bridge and shelves, to make sure they can support the weight. And they are a tad shallow, although I see they can be configured with extensions.

The only thing that I really seem to be finding that's pretty much got the right center speaker width, seems to be units in wood. The Wood Technology CMV-66 and the Design Standouts Horizon N702 are examples. Haven't found too much in the glass & steel type, mostly the weight weightings are not good enough. But I worry if the wood ones would get enough cooling to the receiver, which runs pretty hot, along with being big and heavy.

Any suggestions, other options I should consider?

Well, as someone that is also looking for a TV stand that can hold a tall (& wide) speaker (+ a big receiver), you have my deepest sympathies. Hopefully you'll find something. The Paradigm CC-590 (http://www.paradigm.com/en/reference/speaker_only-specification-31-1-3-13.paradigm) is 26.5" wide, 9-7/16" high, and 45 pounds in weight. You need something with either an open middle shelf, assuming you're going to try and position it nearest the TV, and something that can support a fair amount of weight. I'm not sure the Salamander Synergy goes much above 8.5" shelf height, without getting fancy. The BDI Avion Noir is only 7" in the upper middle shelf. The Cassini is 8" high in the middle shelf, again too narrow for the Paradigm.

So I think you're somewhat stuck, probably either have to move the TV up on a stand mount, to clear enough room for the speaker, or go more custom on the Synergy. I think the Synergy can be had with 8.5, 10, 11, and 12" risers. That would also raise the unit up, I suppose. Might be worth a call to Salamander or down to your local dealer, to see if they can make things fit.

Good luck!

Hi:

I am installing a 52" Flat screen and a 58" cabinet that it will sit on top of.

I am putting in an area that has a recess for the old style rear projection units.

The reset is 28" deep.

I want to have an additional security in making sure that the screen does not tip over.
Reason: two dogs that do not jump on my current TV BUT as they say it only takes one time.

I was thinking of mounting a flat screen bracket to the cabinet.
This would just be a back up to a tip over as the unit will sitting on the stand on top of the cabinet.

I thought of creating side wall to side wall wooden bar across behind the unit and attaching the bracket BUT all the electric, cable, OTA and telephone connections are behind on the back wall and about 3-31/2 feet up on the wall.

Therefore if I use the permanent wooden bar I would not easily be able to move the Tv without taking it off the mount and if its a plasma i would have to be extra careful to get behind and check connections if needed.
With the bracket attached to the cabinet if I roll out the cabinet the screen is attached and not an issue.

The cabinet is a wooden furniture type.

How I attach it to the cabinet I will determine, I am just concerned that it may tip over from a balancing issue.

Anyone do this type of install or think that it would not be a good idea.
Any special type of bracket out there to handle this ?

After reading some negative things about the fit and finish of the Salamander Synergy, I'm leaning towards the Avion. With that said, the CC speaker will end up sitting on top of the cabinet. What kills me is that all the sales are ending at the end of the year and Paradigm may be releasing the Studio v5 specs next week. I'd really like to know if they will have a smaller CC.

Hi Greg, have you considered a bracket that extends out from the wall? Something like this (http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=109&cp_id=10828&cs_id=1082806&p_id=4926&seq=1&format=3#specification). Or you can build bracket support posts onto your cabinet like this (http://www.bdiusa.com/theater/graphics/cabinets/large_images/avion_noir_8540n_2.jpg), but your dogs could end up tipping over the entire setup.

I have seen the Salamander Synergy in person, and I'd say the fit and finish is somewhere in between. Definitely not what I'd term top-of-the-line, but also quite a ways from the bottom. And mostly, I'd be configuring the unit pretty open. I'm not saying that moots fit and finish concerns, but it goes a ways. What I'd probably have to do is go with an open back, or one of their back extenders (with fans). The base unit is 18", and my Receiver is 18.07". Close enough in an open setup, but with the wiring on the back, I really need another inch or two. I think Salamander must have added the extended back, as really high-end electronics these days can get into the 20" range pretty easily. The main thing is that I just cannot seem to find weight support specifications. I have to run by a dealer for something else, so I'll talk with them again, see if they can come up with a spec.

I did have a look at the Design Standouts Horizon N702 on their web site. I have not seen one in person:

http://www.standoutdesigns.com/store/pc/catalog/G_HN702_FT_COMBO_AB.jpg

Dimensionally, it's about perfect as it gets. I guess where I have some reservations is the enclosed design. I am really worried about whether the receiver would get enough air. I see they sell a fan option, and I certainly could go that way, but it wasn't clear where the fans would be mounted. And the 18.75" depth is a tad on the narrow side. Fits, but as I said, not much room for wiring. RCA plugs plus bends, and Banana plugs, could with bend radius add another inch or two to the Receiver's 18.07". The whole back of the receiver is filled with plugs and such. The receiver runs very hot, even in open air. It does look like the fan option is fairly well thought out, although 120-140mm fans might be quieter, and it looks like it would mount near the top of the back, from what I can make out:

http://www.standoutdesigns.com/store/pc/catalog/D_HN702MC_BF_TWS1_113.jpg

http://www.standoutdesigns.com/store/pc/rk_viewPrdPopWindow.asp?idProduct=180&LargeImg=D_HN702AE_AT_TWS1_074.jpg&KeepThis=true&#

The fans will of course pull first through the holes for the wiring, but I think those would be pretty well stuffed with wiring, and where they were not, I could probably block up pretty easily. I see some slots on the bottom front of the unit, probably draws through those and the doors. Pretty close to an ideal cooling column there, I would think, probably still need to give the receiver 3-4" on top, but otherwise very nicely laid out. So someone has spent some time engineering this out, the piece does in that way look pretty impressive.

Has anyone seen or puchased a Wood Technology CMV-66 (http://www.wood-tech.com/catalog/14/66wide_american_hardwood_tvcomponent_stand):

It looks somewhat similar to the Design Standouts Horizon N702 recommended just a bit previously. I don't imagine it's all solid wood, doors are extra, etc. It is just a tad deeper than the Horizon unit, which may come in handy, but there's not much, detail-wise, to see how the air-flow, etc. are likely to be on the unit. One thing I do notice about the doors is that they are all glass, so the remotes have at least a clear shot at the equipment.
