View Full Version : Excel HT Ticket Maker rev. 4.1.2 (9/2/04)
hdtvluvr 06-27-05, 09:02 PM Mason,
I copied the instructions from the help file. I may have been using the Mac Excel help file since the Mac has an Option key. I now have the 2004 Mac version and it says something different now also.
If your version says to use Control + letter then just use that. Sorry for any confusion.
I would edit the instructions on that page by adding #7 and listing the keystrokes you use to paste the image(s).
Hi,
Am I using the correct version ???
I downloaded from your site both the compressed and full version,
On running both of them the version number on the front page says 4.1.1
As I understand 4.1.2 is the most upto date....is this a typo in the files or do I have the wrong versions?
I am using excel 2003, as I have read this may not be compatible BUT it seems to work so far.......loads with a number of errors that clear with the "OK" option and then it runs fine so far.
Excellent system by the way, thank you for the time you have obviously spent on it.
Are you open to suggestions/wish list or is this now the final finished item?
is there a bug report for excel 2003 - I have looked but seem to have missed it if there is....
Many thanks for all your work.
It's amazing how popular this great tool has become. Its a fun invitation to give. Anyone know how many downloads there have been?
MadMrH--
re: version--Thanks for bringing this to my attention. The file is actually v4.1.2. I sent Jason the files, before we noticed that. Afterwards, I corrected it and re-sent new files, but it looks like the pre-fix is on his site right now. I just tested the file against the known bugs in 4.1.1. It is definitely 4.1.2.
re: suggestions-- I'm open to suggestions.... but I have no idea when I'll ever get around to the next version. Feel free to post here or PM me though.
re: bug report for Excel 2003-- I never formally recorded the bugs for 2003, as I wasn't able to support it. Individuals have cited some problems. They are scattered throughout the thread. Here's the last place I made a comment on 2003 issues: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=5556191&&#post5556191
meiers-- no idea on the number of d/ls. Jason has been hosting it for a year or so now. I had earlier version on my own webspace.... no idea though.
Jason just posted the fixed files. I have tested them, and they are all correct.
As of 7/5/2005, if anyone downloads these new files and experiences problems with Excel 2003, please be sure to post a comment here. Thanks.
Jason Hilton 07-05-05, 09:28 PM Just tested with Excel 2003. Works GREAT!
No problems, just make sure to enable macros.
Jason
Jason,
I just tried again with excel 2003 and and still having the same problems. After enabling macros, four file errors pop up and then the "add image" button is not available at the end. Am I doing something wrong?
Jason Hilton 07-06-05, 11:15 AM Jason,

Your right, the add image button is not there. I didn't check that. Maybe Mike changed it to paste directly into the box. Don't worry about the file errors, they are just because you havent saved the file yet.
The missing button was reported in my note above. Rick (hdtvluvr), who did the Mac coding for the TicketMaker, provided this workaround:
The easiest workaround is to create a keyboard shortcut. I would NOT recommend creating a new button on any sheet. If you do create a button, "Delete Images" will not work properly.
A. Here's how to create a keyboard shortcut for the Paste image button:
(you may want to make a #7 under the adding an image with the keystrokes you use to fire the macro - ex. Option+z+(your letter choice))
1. On the Tools menu, point to Macro, and then click Macros.
2. In the Macro name box, enter the name of the macro you want to assign (paste_5images) to a keyboard shortcut.
3. Click Options.
4. To run the macro by pressing a keyboard shortcut key, enter a letter in the Shortcut key box. You can use OPTION+z+letter (for lowercase letters), or OPTION+z+SHIFT+letter (for uppercase letters), where letter is any letter key on the keyboard. The shortcut key will override any default Microsoft Excel shortcut keys while the workbook that contains the macro is open.
To include a description of the macro, type the description in the Description box.
5. Click OK.
6. Click Cancel.
Hope this helps.
Rick
These instructions are for Macs. In Windows Excel you can assign a control-key combination instead of the "OPTIONS-key method" (it's a Mac thing). I have not verified all of Rick's instructions on a Windows version, as I don't have Excel 2003. They sound right though. If you try this, and it doesn't work, please advise.
He also suggests that you should add an instruction on the spreadsheet page, reminding you of the correct control-key combination for pasting the pictures.
thericky 07-14-05, 03:41 PM This thing is awesome. I had no idea something like this was even possible in Excel. I hate spreadsheets but I love this... great work!
Jason just posted the fixed files. I have tested them, and they are all correct.
As of 7/5/2005, if anyone downloads these new files and experiences problems with Excel 2003, please be sure to post a comment here. Thanks.
I am using Excel 2003. The only problem I run into is when pasting a poster image using the 'Paste Image into Ticket' button. When I do this, the graphic is sized correctly on the first ticket, but is wrong (too small) on the rest of the tickets. Other than that it seems to work great.
Doc Holiday 07-18-05, 11:23 PM Just downloaded and this XLS is great. Looking forward to newer versions.
BTW, You should edit your first post to include the paypal link. I would have never found it if I didn't read the whole thread.
One more thing, The hosting for the PSD is down can someone email me the file.
kennedyma AT Gmail.com
Thank you VERY MUCH for the contribution, Doc.
The first post has a link to a donation page, where there is a button to donate. The message boards changed a bit here, and the link may not have been as obvious as it was before. I made a slight change. Thanks.
I'll have to investigate what the direct link is... the PayPal folks have a tool for making a button, so that's what I used.
I also used to have a donation link in my sig, but I think the AVS folks removed it. :o
Thank you again!
LoneAspen 07-28-05, 08:34 PM What a cool spreadsheet!
When I first read about people printing tickets, I thought, "Why would anybody want to that?" Until I saw them!
HOW COOL!
As soon as I get PayPal set up, I'll donate. Great work on this - awesome!
When I first read about people printing tickets, I thought, "Why would anybody want to that?"Funny thing is, when I read that some people wanted to make tickets, I thought the same thing. But they had a need, and I knew it could be done in Excel, so it just blossomed from there. I don't even use it (maybe only once or twice I think)! One of these days, I'll get around to another upgrade. I wish I knew how to actually program (the right way... not the Excel way).
Thanks for the support LoneAspen!
georgemoe 08-02-05, 04:49 PM Thanks MikeWH. I wish I had Photoshop for the background photos but ticket maker is great just the same. My favorite TV series.
George, you look just like the guy on the left!
georgemoe 08-05-05, 11:58 AM George, you look just like the guy on the left!
:D
taxman48 08-06-05, 12:40 PM George: nice job on the ticket, check my gallery for an example of a football ticket I made..How do you get the DTS logo and the Dolby logo in? Hope you have as much fun as I have with them. Wait till the Superbowl comes out and you send out tickets..
Matt
Belcherwm 08-20-05, 11:20 PM Mike,
Thanks for the work. Printed out some tickets for my nine year olds b-day party and they came out great.
Sure thing. Glad it worked out for you.
tlogan6797 09-09-05, 03:19 PM Hello All -
I've just used heavy card stock to print my tickets and they look great, but they are hard to cut, even with a rotary trimmer. And I have a rotary cutter with a perforating blade on it so I can perf the stub, which is REALLY cool.
ANYWAY, as I was in Office Depot the other day, I found some actual ticket stock! It is sold under the Office Depot brand. The dimensions are a little different (8 per sheet) and they are pre-numbered.
At risk of being inundated with requests, I'd be willing to try to modify the TicketMaker to fit this stock...IF there's any interest in it.....
Anyone?
Tom
It looks like a pizza cutter. They are used in sewing (for cutting fabric) and in paper crafts.
tlogan6797-- There is mention elsewhere in this thread about Office Depot stock. If I ever get around to upgrading this to Excel 2003, I was going to provide that as an option.
Feel free to have at it though. If you modify it, please take it to another thread though, so people don't get confused on which version is what. And don't charge anything for it.... since I've declared the copyright on it, I'll come lookin for ya. ;-)
On the other hand, if you want to collaborate on it, it'd require me to get off my busy a$$ and install XP and Office 2003, which has been sitting here for months (graciously donated by an AVS member, I should add... thanks again u know who). I'm right now in the process of spec'ing out a new PC/HTPC, so I'm waiting to get through all that (spec/purchase/build), so I can use the new software on that machine.
Actual ticket stock. That would be great!
From my experience in the past... alignment is the biggest problem with this kind of thing. With all the different printers out there, getting everything to line up can be a problem. If you've ever printed a CD label, you'll know what I'm talking about. ;-)
tlogan6797 09-12-05, 01:27 PM MikeWh -
I searched this thread for "ticket stock" but didn't see any references to the OD stock, so I thought I was on to something. I'm always the last to know.
I have no intention of charging, just thought I could give a little something back for all of the help I've gotten here.
I'll pick up some of the stock and have a go at it. I would hope that by now the alignment issues wouldn't be as bad as they were a couple of years ago. I think that now that most inkjets for home use are geared towards photo printing, maybe it won't be a big problem. And I'm pretty sure that once I/we get something out there, we'll have PLENTY of beta testers!
If I have any specific questions, etc. I'll PM you, if that's OK with you. Give me a couple of weeks...going down to Myrtle Beach for a quick golf weekend (provided Ophelia doesn't wipe out the Atlantic Coast) and my dricore is being delivered this Thursday, so the home theater will be REALLY begininng.

Please do me a favor--- Chould you check the Item number to see if it's the one mentioned in the post above (Office Depot "Print Your Own Tickets" Item Number 922-761)?
Please PM me if/when you start. If I get my all my new HTPC parts together later this week, I may be able to look into an update of TicketMaker.
HeyNow^ 09-15-05, 11:32 AM I print mine on glossy photo paper on my inkjet and then cut them out with scissors. Nice smooth edges and the finish is excellent. I think I paid $20 bucks for a box of 100 plus 8X10 inch sheets. Good value.
I agree... I think a lot of the folks here are using photo paper. Makes a nice looking ticket.
Although i am replying to an old thread, and I have read it all (i think), i havent seen this question:
where is the best place to get images for the tickets, and the best technique to get them sized properly without pixelating?
Although its been sait to you zillions of times, this is great and a good example of innovation.
re: best places-- There are some links in the TicketMaker. I haven't tested all of them recently, but I seem to recall that at least one of them is not a good source any longer (I think the site restricted right-clicks, if I recall correctly).... but I tested AllPosters just a couple weeks ago, and it seemed to work just fine.
re: best technique for sizing--- Images copied to the Windows clipboard are bitmap/raster graphics and are (by their nature) prone to aliasing artifacts when resized. It's what happens when you try to reduce the size of a bitmap: the total number of available pixels are reduced, so the resizing algorithm has to figure out which pixels to throw out and which ones to combine, average, etc. Unfortunately, the answer to your problem is not a straightfoward one. As a general rule, the better the source image (the one you copy to your clipboard), the better the pasted and resized one should be. Unfortunately, there are other variables at play, particularly the relative dimensions of the source vs. the resized. I believe I used a scaled dimension that approximated the ratio of most posters (40"x27", as I recall). If the source image doesn't have that ratio, then it'll be degraded further when resized. In a nutshell--- don't expect much when severly resizing a bitmap image.
The only solution that I can suggest is to use a good graphics package like PhotoShop to resize and apply filters.
jdollison 09-27-05, 02:02 PM A while back I scanned a bunch of my DVD covers to use as art for making my own mylars. The other day I was making some tickets and thought I'd try to insert one of my scans in where the image would go. It worked out great.
I have downloaded a try out version of office 2003. using the ticket maker it works well up to add picture part. There is no add picture button ans as i am
lost with excel, never used before, can any one advise me in simple terms if it is possible to add pictures.
Thanks ver much
It works in excel 2003 as that is what I use. on the last page look at the top of the screen there is a button there to add picture to tickets it says paste image into tickets. For this to work you have to have copied an image to your clipboard though.
sirata-- please report back, after you follow Z3r0's comments. I've rec'd a few comments from 2003 users, who had problems with missing buttons.
I get to the last page titled adding an image, i have put a picture on the clip board,i cannot see a "page image into tickets button.
I f i right click on the image in the clip board it says image is not the same size and shape and size of activated area, if i ok that it says cannot change part of a merged cell
any ideas Dave
Here is the suggested workaround for assigning the button's macro to a keyboard shortcut:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=5848498&&#post5848498
Be sure to read my note about the "Options" key being a Mac thing (Windows-- use a ctrl or alt key).
BTW, I suspect the button is only missing from some of the multiple ticket styles, and this is why some people see the button and some don't. You might want to back up and choose a different ticket style... see if the button is available on different styles' pages.
If you are looking for a great free alternative to photoshop take a look at the gimp. Its an open source linux program but it has a windows version. You need to install the gimp and the GTK+ library for windows. It has all the basic functions that photoshop has including crop and resize.
Get it here http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html
Thanks again for the hardwork TicketMaker is AWSOME.
bear3351 11-07-05, 10:20 PM This is fantastic. Thank you.
shaneoneill 11-20-05, 11:49 AM Okay, I'm using this with OpenOffice (free alternative to Microsoft Office). Seems to load fine, but I can't "press" the "next" button, it's still in edit mode. What am I doing wrong?

mike how did that go? :p
cause i still dont get any buttons at all on the last page using one of the pic mode tickets options.
i only get buttons at the end for save tic 1 or 5 tickets and printer options and a few other buttons when i use a no picture option.
i can manually add pics using the tic with pics but it is tedious, have to manually resize each pic for each tick and add each pic one at a time.
and no print button so, no printed tickets.
I took a shot at a Super Bowl XL ticket (using Photoshop, and images found on the web):
hdtvluvr 01-02-06, 10:17 AM Looks great!
Now I need to get started on mine.

Rick7777 01-17-06, 06:25 PM Really cool program!!!!
I am getting a "False" Message on pasting image into tickets.
I have tried .JPG and .bmp images and get the same result.
What is causing this?
Would someone be willing to send me their Excel file to begin with and I can modify it from there?
Thanks!
"False" message? Is that all it says, or could you tell me what the exact message says? I would be willing to send you the file, but it will be the same as what's available on the download site.
would someone mind posting the .psd base file up again. bugman72's link is no longer working.
ND23 Great job on the star wars ticks as well as the Super Bowl. I didn't know they had internet service in Olathe! (just kidding, my Mother in Law lives in Lenexa)
I work in Lenexa!
I just attempted to post the original .psd file, but it's bigger than the 500KB limit (it's 6.5 MB).
So, I removed the Star Wars image to make it smaller, but it's still 1040KB.
Sorry,

Try and zip it. It should compress down some.
OK, I got it, cancel the .psd request. I made a template in Microsoft Picture it. Works perfectly! Thanks everyone.
Thanks for the .zip suggestion! Here's the .zip file, containing "ticket no image.psd".
The version with the Star Wars pic was still too big, even zipped, so I had to delete it.
Uploading this just in case others need it, even though sdspga has found a workaround.
ND
EDIT: You need to right-click on the ticket.zip item below, and choose Save Target As, then save the .zip file to your computer.
I just found this its great just wonder how to configure excell to print in the correct spaces where is perforated!

Anyone make an Oscar Ticket?
Well, I'm not having a watch party or anything, so I don't have a need for one, but if any of you can make use of this one, feel free. I kept it pretty generic. I can customize the text for anyone.
Enjoy!

Version 2... changed the far-right picture.
Thought I'd pass along my method for converting these images made via the Photoshop method into high-quality tickets that really wow your guests.
Anyone can print them on an inkjet printer and pass out the paper. Printing on inkjet photo paper gets us one step closer to a good looking and durable ticket.
But for my SuperBowl tickets this year, I uploaded my .jpg file to shutterfly.com and printed 40 of them as glossy 4x6 photo prints. They arrived in the mail within 3 days. You can also use Walgreens, WalMart, etc. and pick them up in the store. I didn't run into any issues with copyright rules, etc. And I had some of those codes you enter for free prints, so I only had to pay $2.99 for the shipping.
I took the 4x6 photos home, and cut out the ticket from each. Then use a scrapbooking perforation tool (http://www.joann.com/shop/shop_zoom.jhtml?CATID=82045&PRODID=123657&SKUID=123727) (about $4) to perforate the paper at the vertical line where the main ticket area meets the "stub" area.
Got lots of compliments on the final product.
ND
I'm going to try this out!
And thanks for the PSD file.
slydog75 03-06-06, 09:53 AM Bug report: THis may have been reported allready, I don't know. I'm using Excel 2003 on WinXP Pro. Everything works great except when trying to print tickets with an image. The page where you are suposed to load the image into the tickets doesn't have ANY buttons at all so I cannot insert the image from the clipboard, nor can I even print.
Edit: Ok, I found the 'create a macro' work-around.
Hey Mike, thanks for dedicating your skills to such a fine little piece of Exceldom. I just whipped up a ticket for my 7-year old's birthday party, and it looks great; he's going to get a kick out of it!
Westshorestudios 03-15-06, 10:34 AM I've down loaded this and used it on my pc at work and my pc at home. we love it.
My son wants to use it on his pc in his room, but can't. something about the security and macros set too high. I've gone to excell, tools, options, security, macro security and set the security level to "medium" (where it is on my 2 pcs), but he still can't run the program. same message comes up about either needing a signature or re: the macro security.
any ideas?
slydog75 03-16-06, 07:07 AM After you set the macro security to medium what does the error message say now?
Mattsshack 03-21-06, 05:45 PM Does anyone know where I can download the ticket.psd file from? Thank you in advance!
_Matt
J/V -- You're welcome!
Westshorestudios -- Any luck? I believe medium should do it... and when you open it, it will should bring up a box asking if you want to enable macros (choose "enable macros").
Matt- about 16 messages above. It's a zip file.

Ok, so with the psd file how do you place a background image into it? Very cool by the way
Dave
I just came across this thread and had to try it. This is great. How well does a regular bubble jet printer accept thick paper or cardboard, like an actual ticket?
Well done. Thanks a million guys. :)
Lumpy69 05-06-06, 01:50 PM I just wanted to say WOW GREAT JOB!!!!
I've been on AVS for a while now. I had seen the threads about the
ticket maker and thought, bah! who'd needs that?. I'm finishing up my
theater. Waiting for the paint to dry, so i grabbed a copy to tinker with.
WOW
One more EXTRA BLING FACTOR to go along with my theater setup.
Once again GREAT JOB.. .. Now for that second coat of paint.
mjay3276 05-18-06, 07:00 AM hey guys i am new to this forum and new to the Excel HT Ticket Maker so bear with me....
BTW this really looks like a great program as all the sample tickets people have shown on this thread have looked great.
My 4th grade child is having a school project where the kids 'board' a plane and travel across the country. Each child will have a series of 'airplane tickets'. I am using this program to print tickets but I would like each kid to have a unique seat for each 'flight'.
Does anyone know how to use excel to change the seat number automatically with the program?
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Mark
hdtvluvr 05-18-06, 07:54 AM For your purpose just change the seat numbers on each ticket. In other words, change each seat # on the 5 tickets, print them and then change the numbers again.
Otherwise, one option would be to create a list of numbers (using a For ... next loop) and add code to the print button. This code would prompt for largest row # and largest seat #. Then code in the loop would set the appropriate row and seat #'s in the correct cells on the ticket and print a set of tickets until all rows/seats were printed.
Nightlites13 05-22-06, 10:38 PM Thanks Mike, So simple and complete. What a great job.....now to decide on that theater name :)
R_Willis 05-30-06, 10:56 PM Anyone know if this works with OpenOffice 2.0.2?
www.openoffice.org
hdtvluvr 05-31-06, 07:55 AM I don't think the macros and VBA will work in OpenOffice.
I don't have Excel...where can I get a free verswion of it? Or something to open it with?
Excel isn't free. Sorry.... Microsoft prefers that we pay for most of their software. The TicketMaker only works in Excel.
IronForge 06-26-06, 08:22 PM I don't have Excel...where can I get a free verswion of it? Or something to open it with?
I wonder if it works in openoffice? It is free.
Here is their "excel" counterpart.

A few other people have mentioned this, has anyone tried it for a verified answer?

Yes, I tried it and no, it doesn't work. The macros don't work, so none of the buttons function. Too bad, but that's how it is.
IronForge 06-26-06, 10:03 PM This is from their help file..
--------------------------------------
Macros in Microsoft Office and OpenOffice.org
Microsoft Office and OpenOffice.org cannot run the same macro code. Microsoft Office uses VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) code, and OpenOffice.org uses Basic code based on the OpenOffice.org API (Application Program Interface) environment. Although the programming language is the same, the objects and methods are different.
If you use macros in one of the applications and want to use the same functionality in the other application, you must edit the macros. OpenOffice.org can load the macros that are contained within Microsoft Office files and you can then view and edit the macro code in the OpenOffice.org Basic IDE editor.
IronForge 06-28-06, 04:17 PM I just found this its great just wonder how to configure excell to print in the correct spaces where is perforated!

Looks like a good idea to buy some pre-perforated paper. Has anyone tried something like this?
I wonder though, if it would be compatible with the Excel HT Ticket Maker due to the layouts.

If you're trying to perforate the line where the main ticket section meets the ticket stub section...
Unless you're doing a seriously large number of tickets, it's probably going to be easier to just buy a scrapbooking perforation tool, and run it like a pizza cutter across your printed ticket.

There are some discussions buried in the thread about this. One user was retrofitting the TicketMaker into a Word template, so that it can be printed on Avery ticket stock... as it is, ND's suggestion is good, if you are trying to do a perf stub. If you are just trying to make it easy to print them and cut them, scissors or a paper cutter seem to be the preferred route. ;)
FWIW, I have it in my request log to see if I can reconfigure it to fit the Avery ticket stock... I've just not had any time to look at doing the next update to the TicketMaker!! :(
I'm having trouble seeing jasonhilton.us/ticket.htm. Is there anywhere else to download the ticket maker?
Thanks
rcny019 08-02-06, 09:30 PM I have three questions:
1. Is Excel HT Ticket Maker rev. 4.1.2 (9/2/04) the latest template
2. Does anyone know how to fix the problems with the Paste Image into Tickets button
3. Is there someway to place a serial number on the ticket to prevent copies
Thanks
hdtvluvr 08-03-06, 08:29 AM 4.1.2 is the latest
What problems are you having with the Paste Image button?
Serial Number? Why not just change seat and row #'s to make each ticket unique?
hdtvluvr 08-03-06, 05:18 PM Try a different ticket type. Each type has it's own worksheet with the 5 tickets to print. Can you see the button on those sheets?
Please post here in order to help others.
BTW, MikeWh was the creator. I helped to make it Mac friendly and was a beta tester.
rcny019 08-04-06, 08:34 PM first i open the program and it gives me an error that says "File Error: data myay have been lost. after that it lets me continue after a few clicks on ok. then i click next, ticket with picture, picture ticket without seating, picture ticket no seating large, after this i design the ticket. Then i click next and i want to add a picture and i read on step 3 that i have to click the paste image into tickets button. the problem is that i cant see the botton
hdtvluvr 08-04-06, 08:49 PM Can you see other buttons on the page? There should be a Save Ticket 1as Gif, Save All 5 tickets as Gifs, as well as other buttons.
Can you see the Paste Image button when you choose the no seating small ticket?
rcny019 08-04-06, 10:30 PM when i use the one with picture there is no button. when i use the without picture one there are all the buttons, so im guessing it has to do with the with picture ticket
hdtvluvr 08-04-06, 10:37 PM Are you saying there aren't ANY buttons on the page with pictures? Or there just isn't a paste image button?
What version of Excel are you using?
rcny019 08-04-06, 10:52 PM theres absolutely no button on the ticket with pics page
rcny019 08-04-06, 10:53 PM im running 2003
hdtvluvr 08-05-06, 09:09 AM im running 2003
That might explain it. I know others have had problems with 2003. I'm not sure why 2003 might break the workbook. I'm using 2004 on a Mac and it works fine.
I'm not sure if you have security set right for Excel Macros since you didn't mention getting a Security Warning when you opened Ticket Maker. That dialog box should have 3 choices. Disable macros, Enable macros & More Info. If you don't get this when you open Ticket maker perform the following steps:
1. Select Tools then Options
2. Choose the Security tab
3. Click Macro Security button (close to the bottom)
4. Click Medium
5. Click OK
6. Click OK
Close Excel
Double Click on Ticket Maker. When Excel opens click on Enable Macros.
Let me know if this works.
P.S. I would also check to see if there are any Excel updates
Click the Help menu item in Excel and click on Check for Updates.
rcny019 08-05-06, 12:14 PM OK, the updates fixed the problem. Thanks alot
hdtvluvr 08-05-06, 07:04 PM Enjoy!
Sirquack 08-05-06, 10:30 PM Mike, thanks so much. Your one talented guy. :)
You're welcome. A big thanks goes to hdtvluvr for his great programming support and continued user support in this thread.
For some reason, I'm not getting the thread subscription emails anymore, so I haven't been around much to see what's happening here.
Belcherwm 08-19-06, 10:36 AM Mike,
Used it again last night for tickets to a double feature on my 10 year old's birthday. Thanks again for a fun and very useful product!

That would be me. I sent out about 5 or 6 versions for beta testing, but never got any feedback, nor any additional requests, so I haven't done anything with it for a while. If there's any interest, I'd pick it up again.

How about someone with talent or skills making up a ticket for this weekends Ohio Sate vs Michigan game? I would like to see some different tickets for that game. Let's see who can make the best looking collectible style ticket.
Smokeymi30 12-07-06, 11:12 PM Mike,
I have used your ticket program a couple of times and I thoroughly enjoy it. I can not wait till I have kids....can wait to sent out invites with tickets inside of them. I just want to say thank you to you and everyone who has had a hand in it. It makes the experiance just that much better.
teknoguy 12-08-06, 10:34 AM Well here I am getting ready to make tickets for New Years Eve and all of a sudden, I can't copy images into the ticket!!!
I've tried both Excel versions; 200 and 97.
I am running on my system Excel 2003 SP1.
When I tell it to "Paste Image Into Tickets", nothing happens.
I get no warnings about macros being enabled, or errors of any kind.
Any ideas?
Used this without a hitch this past Spring. Only thing I can think is that a Microsoft patch messed this up but I can't figure out what??

After looking at the macro code, I saw that the code is looking for .bmp format files.
I converted the image to .bmp and bingo! :)

scaesare 01-24-07, 04:28 PM scaesare, where did you find your images for that ticket? It's very cool.
Snagged it from www.superbowl.com and edited it slightly. Then because the default color pallete in the Excel ticket maker doesn't have colors that matched, I just edited the cell color directly.
If you want the graphic, lemme know...

R_Willis 01-25-07, 08:11 PM I wonder if it works in openoffice? It is free.
Here is their "excel" counterpart.
http://www.openoffice.org/product/calc.html
A few other people have mentioned this, has anyone tried it for a verified answer?
Yes, I tried it and no, it doesn't work. The macros don't work, so none of the buttons function. Too bad, but that's how it is.
This is from their help file..
I wish someone could fix the code (cause it sounds like it could be fixed), so this awesome little program would work in OpenOffice.
After looking at the macro code, I saw that the code is looking for .bmp format files.
I converted the image to .bmp and bingo! :)

You can click where the image should go on one of the tickets, then click Edit - Paste. You may have to resize the image to fit the ticket space. Once done, copy that image and Edit - Paste onto the other tickets. The button (and code) just does all of this for you.
Let me know if this works for you.
R_Willis
Moving this to OpenOffice isn't real simple. Sorry.
I'm having a problem pasting images too. If I copy the image from the internet it works fine. If I copy it from a file I've saved (.jpeg, .gif or .bmp) it will not paste - not with the button or by edit - paste. I'm thinking it has something to do with it being Office 2003.
HeyNow^ 01-26-07, 07:28 PM I'm not having any problems selecting an area and INSERTING a picture that I have saved. Then I size it an put it on the ticket where I want it. Try that.
HT-Naimee 02-01-07, 08:14 AM Would it be possible to adjust all of the colors of the ticket?
And would it also maybe be possible to select which field carries what information? Somehow I don'T seem to be able to reassign fields :(
Otherwise it is great!
P.S.: Oh, and how do I alter the maximum allowed letters per field. Some fields I would simply like to enter different text but it is limited in the #of letters.
hdtvluvr 02-01-07, 09:38 AM On the ticket design page where you enter text, change colors, etc., you can select the goup of fields and manually select a new color instead of being limited to the color schemes shown. I'm not sure what you mean about reassigning fields. If you want something in a particular place on the ticket, go to that line (on the design page) and type what you want.
Regarding fields being limited in the # of characters, I wasn't aware there were limitations. I'll have to look into this.
HT-Naimee 02-01-07, 09:43 AM Hi,
I will try as you suggested. Thanks!
About the limited # of characters, well, try e.g. typing a movie title or two (Lucky Number Slevin & The Incredibles" into the "Rated: X" field.
hdtvluvr 02-01-07, 08:14 PM That field is set to only allow an item in the dropdown list.
Any reason you can't use the Title cell? You can click on the title on the ticket (design page) and change font style / size if you need to. Not sure how it will affect the 5 tickets on the next page.
HT-Naimee 02-02-07, 03:14 AM Because I need more room. I wanted to delete a field and resize the other but they are locked and cannot be resized.
So I wanted to use two fields instead of just one.
Same for the seating. Those are three fields, which is good for a real cinema, but I simply wanted to write "Sofa Middle Left", kind of more as a joke, but it won't fit :)
hdtvluvr 02-02-07, 08:07 AM Now I see. Regarding the seating, click on the design ticket and change the font size to 8 or 10 and Sofa Middle Left will fit.
Make a backup copy of Ticketmaker
In the design ticket (not the item 3, 4, & 5 line), click on the Production area of the ticket. Choose Format - Cells. Then choose the Alignment tab. Click Merge cells to turn it off. Do the same thing for Title and rating area.
Then highlight all of these cells, click Format - Cells - Alignment tab - Merge Cells. Also click Wrap Text. Now you can put whatever you like directly there, change font and size.
Hope this helps.
Note: You won't be able to resize a field because it will affect the cells on either side or above and below.
gates_apco 02-08-07, 05:47 PM Is there anything out there that can automatically number tickets sequentially? This product is great and I would much rather donate to the creator than pay another cent to ticketmaster but I really need automatic numbering.
hdtvluvr 02-08-07, 05:52 PM How many tickets are we talking about?
Hey thanks, hdtvlvr, for your continued user support here! ;)
I am still only receiving emails for maybe 1 out of every 10-12 posts here. I don't check the forum, unless I get an email. Wonder what the deal is with that.
gates_apco--- what are you trying to automate? Could you explain further? The ticketmaster connection has me stumped. :-/
hdtvluvr 02-08-07, 07:48 PM Glad to help out.
CANNON-FODDER 02-08-07, 07:59 PM IIRC, the default immediate e-mail notification will come for the first post since you last logged in, subsequent posts do not re-generate a notice until you log in and the forum updates your "last visited" date/time group. Closing the browser should update that, but there is a ~20 minute lag before your "last visited" date/time group is updated - so you can get around to the "first unread" in more than one post.

I had contacted David Bott, and he set me straight on it. Thanks, C-F.
I had been relying on email notices to keep up with support here.... thinking that the emails were like listserv subscriptions. That's too bad. At one time, I was posting so frequently here, that I was receiving notices all the time. I just assumed it was working like a listserv. DOH!
Guess I need to make a habit of coming back more frequently! It sure would be nice to be able to get a weekly journal though. hmmmmmm...
Does anybody have a copy of ther PSD template they could send me? The link is obviously old and not working. if you could Pm me I will send my email address.
Cheers,
Mark
CANNON-FODDER 02-21-07, 12:57 AM It sure would be nice to be able to get a weekly journal though. hmmmmmm...Not that I endorse wholesale use of this, as I have no idea about the server load implications, you could use the thread tool to get a text down-load of the thread.
With a little more work, using the given address of http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/dt.php?t=441835 -- you could download into a version control scheme or script using some flavor of DIFF/FC function and see only updates...

Dbott10 02-25-07, 08:24 PM I see that this seems to be a common problem. I'm using both Excell 2000 and 2003 and in both cases I can't get it to copy from the clipboard to the ticket. Is there a solution? Tryed a jpeg as well as bmp image. Also tried to paste it directly into ticket and not use the button. No luck....
Road Captain 02-26-07, 07:58 AM I see all the problems listed here about inserting images and wonder what the problem is. I am using MS Excel 2003 and have no problem inserting pictures with the button provided. The picture does resize to fit the space in the first ticket only while the other tickets on the page have a full size picture. That's easy to change. Copy the cell with the picture in the first ticket and paste to the picture cell in the other tickets on the page.
I only have a problem if I'm trying to copy a picture saved on my hdd. If I copy a picture from the web there is no problem.
I have tried all of the suggested fixes and still can't get images to work in excel 2003. The PSD files i can find seem not to be the ones that have images? Can anywayone help me out.

What PSD files? PSD are photoshop files. You need to copy/paste .bmp files.

hdtvluvr 06-26-07, 07:50 PM It may be a security setting in Excel 2007. In previous versions, excel would remove (or not allow use of) VBA in workbooks as the default setting.

The spreadsheet expects the image file to be a bitmap. However, the way the code works, it looks at the size of the box for the first image and changes the image to fit before pasting. Then it copies this resized image and pastes it into the 2 - 5 tickets. There may be a problem if you are using jpgs. A workaround would be to paste the image manually if you only want to use jpgs. Doing this manually will mean you will have to resize the image after pasting so that it fits the cell. Then manually copy that and paste in the other 4 cells.
I was a beta tester and assisted with some of the coding but I am not the owner of the spreadsheet.

NProszkow 02-02-09, 09:46 AM Hi guys,
I think this program is awesome! I was wondering if anyone has ideas to incorporate a seat-map worksheet? I would like to use this for my HS auditorium and I really just need to mail merge the info from one worksheet onto the "print ticket" page?
I am pretty good with excel, but I can't touch on the VB programming. It would be awesome to be able to select seats on my worksheet and then have a radial "print" button to print those selected tickets.
Thanks for any input!
NProszkow
hdtvluvr 02-02-09, 02:01 PM It really wasn't designed to handle a lot of different sections/seats.
However, with that said you could set up another workbook with 3 columns of data. Section, seat and Row. Populate 5 rows with the appropriate data.
Open Ticket Maker and go to the ticket page that has the 5 tickets. Set the appropriate fields (Note there are 2 section fields, 2 row fields and 2 seat fields for each ticket) to = the corrrect cell in the new workbook you created. Print the tickets, change the data in your new workbook to the next 5 tickets and print again.
Hope this helps.
To set the ticket fields to your seat info, click on the cell of the ticket for 'Section'. In the fx bar at the top type '=' without the ' then click on Window and select your new workbook, then click on the appropriate cell then click window and choose Ticket Maker. Go to the next cell in ticket maker and do the same thing. Continue until you have changed all 30 fields in the tickets. Now after populating your new workbook with the correct data, print the tickets and then change the data in your new workbook and print again.
It would be more difficult to automate further.

hdtvluvr 02-08-09, 11:58 AM Are you using the latest version of Excel on the Mac? If so, it doesn't support Macros (VBA programming). You will need to revert to an earlier version of Excel (Excel 2004).

hdtvluvr... nice to see you've kept up with semi-supporting the folks with this thread. It's been a LONG time. I saw it became de-stickified, so I figured fewer and fewer people would be using it.
It's GREAT to know that Jason Hilton is still hosting these files. I think I saw somewhere here, where someone did a VERY good job of porting this over to java or some more appropriate web-ified platform.
Every once in a while, I think about this thing I created (and hdtvluvr greatly helped improve) and wish I created a real web app for it (or more appropriately, got one of the MANY talented programmers I work with to have them take a stab at it).
Ha! Just saw the recent thread re: a java version. Nice to see people continued to find a need for this type of thing. I actually only used my Excel thing once! Did it on a whim when someone asked if it could be done.

I have open office now, so this should work, right?
hdtvluvr 03-16-10, 11:10 PM hdtvluvr... nice to see you've kept up with semi-supporting the folks with this thread.
I've enjoyed keeping up with this and helping when I can. I haven't seen the java version of this. Anyone have a link?
Where have you been?

I've been enjoying my freakin theater! LOL I haven't added anything major to it in years, so I guess I didn't need any forum help. :D I know many people must simply vanish after they're done with their HT builds. I also tend to move from one hobby to the next.... I'm involved in a couple other non-HT forums lately... woodworking, etc. Good to see you're still active here. I should probably take some time to look through the forum... maybe find some cool new things for the HT.
hdtvluvr 03-17-10, 08:24 AM I visit several other forums now also as some of my hobbies have changed too. I'm slowly getting back to seeing what has changed in the home theater front and occasionally read a few sections here at AVS.
Glad your back.
