I thought I would get this started as I am expecting my 52725 in the next week or so from what I hear from the dealer. Also, the Mits DLP thread has gotten quite large and its about time to start focusing on the individual models when it comes to first impressions, tweaks and calibration.

I think the anti-glare screen will create calibration differences between the 52525 and the 52725, so we will see where this goes!

Can't wait for mine to arrive!

My local dealer is telling me they are due in on 9/20, so maybe yours will come in sooner!

My dealer says sometime between the 14th and 25th of this month. They went into production on the 3rd of the month. If they are available before the end of the month, I have the option of swapping my 525 with the 725 if I pay the price difference... I may just do that if given the chance.

I really had no choice but to wait, the 52525 because of the screen has way too much glare for my room. So my dealer let me have a Sony GWIII until the 52725 comes in because at the time the 52525 was not in stock.

To anyone and everyone who views a 725 in the store.....if you can, please have the salesperson hook up a Mits HD2000U D-VCR to the 725 via firewire and see if it records HD. Thank you.

Just a reminder the Mitsubishi 24 month no interest and no payments financing ends 9/13. I went in today to get it all squared away so I could take advantage of free money for 2 years.

I heard that the 52725 is supposed to be here sometime this week. Cant wait!

Just saw the 52725 at Anderson's in Dublin...Anderson's has 82 in stock, and will get the 62725 in 2 weeks.

The box looks great, screen guard is much less reflective, and I didn't notice any tilt/skew to the image. The only draw back is that the lower section of the box (around the feet) is silver, versus black for the rest of the unit. It looks pretty stupid, but it will help with matching the Mits stand.

Price is $200 over the xx525.

I just got home from pulling trigger on 52725 purchase. I have been waiting on the Sammy 5674 for a long long time and now hear it is still more wait and specs may be less than originally thought. My local Ultimate Electronics unboxed their first 725 just for me to see. I liked the all black front and the glare was a lot better (there is still a little). I think that glass screen is one of the things that really helps make the sharp picture.

Should get it Sunday or later next week. Will post when it is all setup. Like DRE it is my first HDTV.

I guess I am giving up 4" and the the DVI port as compared to Sammy. I think other features like net command, better PIP, firewire, plus get it now make it worth it. Mitsubishi is definitely a good manufacturer as I have now owned nothing but Mitusbishi (as main TV) for my entire adult life (over 20 years). Hope this proves to keep me happy customer.

Can't wait until delivery - it will be like a kid at Christmas.

OK, got the 52725 this afternoon, and after a quick calibration am posting pictures. I have to spend more time with it and tweak. Had a problem getting the HDMI to work, finally did by crimping the HDMI connector slightly.

Still see some glare but its no comparison to the 525 from what I can tell. I have only had it a few hours. So far am impressed.

So here are the pictures.

I am using the HDMI for the DISH DVR 921 and these pictures are with an older Toshiba DVD SD6200 at 480P. I will be trying it out with the Panasonic XP 30 which up converts once I receive it and will repost pictures.

But it gives you an idea of the depth of the picture even at 480P.

Any reduction in brightness as compared to the 525... the anti glare screen could make for a slightly muted picture... I wonder if the adjustments for brightness/contrast need to be slightly different for the 725 as compared to the 525.

Can anyone tell me if it would be possible to place a center speaker on top of one of the 725 models? Maybe the 825 models? How about any DLP television with HD2+?! Also, this has built-in tuner and cablecard, right?

Thanks a lot!

Brad

UMD_Terp

Unless your center speaker is 2" wide, or you can amazingly balance it on a 2" wide space, then no... No current DLP is that thick.

And all the Mitsubsishi DLP models have built in ATSC and QAM tuner with cablecard.

I figured I would post this question in the owners forum as well as the Mits DLP forum. I think these kinds of questions really belong here now anyway.

Maybe you 525 folks can help answer a couple of questions though.

I got Coax digital set up last night and also set up the analog audio from the audio 2 output from the TV to my Krell.

I do get sound from the COAX on all the digital channels over local cable. I cant seem to get sound from the analog cable channels at all through my Krell.

Has anyone had any problems getting that to work correctly? I am not sure if there is something else in the TV that needs to be setup that I missed or there is a problem w/the analog output. I do not have a cable card, but I would think the tuner should output an analog signal especially if the coax works...

Any let me know if you have any suggestions.

scpanel
09-18-04, 09:46 AM
I got it squared away this am, it was not the TV. It just so happens the Krell cant do both Digital and Analog on the same device.

After another calibration w/AVIA in a dark room last night before watching a movie, here is where I have the settings on the 52725. This is DVD input over component at 480P. My Panasonic that up converts didn't make it here yesterday so this is with my older Toshiba SD 6200.

I am using the HDMI for my DISH DVR 921, at least for now, and this set now has only about 11 hours on it and nowhere near broken in yet! This is about as close as I could come with the color test patterns.

Magenta 30
Red 28
Yellow 32
Green 33
Cyan 28
Blue 28

Contrast 20
Brightness 49
Sharpness 22
Temp Low
Tint 28
Color 38
V Noise std
Edge off

Even with my room back-lit it still seemed at times still to bright during movie playback in a dark room. So I am really anxious to get an idea of others settings as they get their sets. I plan on spending more time w/it this weekend.

I too have noticed as others have the green halo effect on the cable SD channels at times anyway and have seen just a few rainbows so far, which doesn't really bother me. And already mentioned the glare previously.

I think so far the picture is much better than my previous set the SONY GWIII and the blacks are deeper.

So far other than the initial problem w/the HDMI port all is well, but wonder if others will have the same problem w/the HDMI and if its orientation is part of the problem. I tried 2 different cables and had the same problem until as I mentioned earlier in the thread, crimped the HDMI connector to make it fit more snuggly in the TV input.

I plan on leaving it run all weekend and try more DVD's tonight. More to come but so far we are pretty impressed.

I just bought the 52725.... i'm excited about it but nervous because of the tilt issue... anyone seen it yet? I actually saw it in the store, but went ahead and bought it.... it really isn't that bad (I guess).

I'm concerned how easy it is to fix it....

Also, does anyone know if problems in 525 have been resolved in 725? Such as Reset problem, and audio/video synch?

joeld100
09-19-04, 01:28 PM
Issues and overall picture quality aside (I think most people can agree it is comparable in quality to the other HD2+ sets), what does this set have or not have feature wise compared to it's competitors? Inputs, neat menu settings, anything that might not be on the top of someone's checklist but would be in the list of things you rejoice for/regret after you buy the set? For example, we bought a 55" mitsu crt a couple of years ago and the channel lists for HD were separate than regular analog broadcasts - tv's that join the atsc and ntsc channels in one channel lineup get major points for me (we won't be hooking up cable or satellite).

scpanel
09-19-04, 04:13 PM
j_dubCA,

My 52725 seems to be square when I tested it using the AVIA disc. The picture could be adjusted up slightly once we get the service manual info. I am waiting for it to come in paper form as many others are! I dont see the tilt problem on this set.

As far as features:

I wish it had a second digital input, other than that I am pretty happy so far. I think the black level and the picture quality is better than the Sammy "Kirk". The anti-glare screen really helps over the 525 however you so still see some reflection as I showed in one of the pictures I posted.

Netcommand is pretty cool, but I am using my Krell HTS 7.1 for all my audio switching and really only have 2 inputs now, DVD, and the DISH 921. I am waiting for a Krell DVI/HDMI upgrade at some point.

The one item that really bothers me is just how slow channel changes are, and wonder if there will be firmware updates to speed this up in the future.

I have had this set on for about 35 hours now and so far no reset issues, or anything of that nature, just a great picture. The only real problem I had was getting my HDMI cable to fit in snuggly and make a good connection, I ended up having to crimp the cable slightly, so I am not sure if the connector in the TV is slightly large or the problem is w/the cable. The cable is from BlueJeans and I will be calling them tomorrow just to check.

I think the orientation of connector may be the problem, not sure if others have had a problem.

I am really waiting to see more reviews and setup thoughts/tweaks as others get their sets, but I have to say, I think this is very close to a plasma picture if not better without the burn problem.

I spoke to my dealer about this and he said that all Mitsubishi sets have notoriously slow tuners, so I don't expect much if any improvement in this area.

I do have to say, we are watching the Cowboys and Browns in HD and the picture on this 52725 is amazing. It looks so natural like you are sitting in the stands. Amazing.

I am not sure just how much more tweaking I even need to make, its really a stunning picture. I have to wonder if the anti-glare screen has something to do w/it.

It would be fun to do an A-B with the 2 different screens on this set. I am sure someone may try it at some point!

Got my 52725 today. Still don't have HD receiver (getting Directtv HD Tivo). The DVD via component looked good out of the box. Regular Directtv looks okay. Distance shots of football game are a little fuzzy (can't wait for the HD receiver).

I plugged in the computer and the screen looks fairly sharp but the colors on the TV seem to be missing some red so does not match my normal monitor. Could this be the cable?????? Any input on this would be appreciated. I am running out of the ATI Radeon 8500. The VGA port going to my Viewsonic monitor and the DVI port going to a DVI to VGA cable which connects to back of 725.

Still learning and figuring out NetCommand. I think I will like it once it is all setup properly.

Compact Flash view was good. Could not read the .mp3 off of the Smart Media 64MB. Guess I need the firmware update?????

There is some glare but not going to be an issue for my room (except maybe in the morning) but still not a big deal except when screen goes to black.

Ummm...if you have a 52725 then you DO have a HD receiver built in for OTA HD. Depending on where you live you could get a pretty good signal and be watching HD today.

Great pics. Glare does seem somewhat reduced from the 525s. How do you like the black fabric over the speakers? Is it nice or flimsy? Wish they'd just gone all black, but I suppose that look is part of what they want you to pay for with the 825s.

Should have explained some more. I have a regular DirectTv Tivo now and it is not HD. I do not have the OTA antennae setup yet. They did not bring it with the TV.

But for the record - If I setup the OTA antennae prior to getting the new HD Tivo, I can plug the antennae into the cable box input to get HD????

Plug the antenna into the TV not the cable box and if you can get a HD signal where you live then you'll have HD on your HDTV!

The only problem you have with hooking up the antenna straight to the TV is you will have to switch inputs to watch local HD. If you hook it up to the HD tivo box you will be able to access the HD channels with the built in guide (no switching inputs).

I decided to take the HDTV plunge....

Bought and hooked up a new HD TIVO HR10-250....

Bought and installed over the air antenna...

Now I am WAITING for my WD-62725 and I am in MIAMI, FLORIDA!!!!!
I cannot wait another minute for this TV to arrive! I am already pulling my hair out! It also seems that the TVs generally arrive on the west coast first and then slowly trickle across the US.

Even though I have done it for years and years, watching football all weekend in SD was painful!

My 725 arrived yesterday just in time for the Cowboy game.....I plugged in a cheap OTA antenna that was collecting dust in a box yesterday and up popped the Cowboys/Browns game in INCREDIBLE HD. It was better than I was expecting and I had gotten used to the crappy feeds in the stores.

The one problem I'm having is audio switching like scapnel (sp?) had. Digital audio is fine, but when I switch to anything analog, my Yamaha receiver won't switch from the digital to the analog input like it should. You can manually switch from TV/CBL digital to TV/CBL analog and then the sound will come in. It's just annoying.

Beyond that, the TV in awesome. The glare screen ain't perfect but it helps and we don't have the option of removing the screen with a 1 year old running around the house.

I took a bunch of great screen pics but alas, my computer at home is on the fritz.

What I did is default to analog for all and then when when I want the digital for the HD channels I just toggle it on from the remote. My old Proceed AVP2 allowed both and you could set a preference, but not the Krell HTS 7.1, maybe in their next upgrade?? Just to be sure I'll probably give Krell a call just to make sure there isnt a firmware upgrade.

Will the XX725's be sold in Best Buy, Circuit City, Sears, and Tweeter? Or are they going to be restricted to certain dealers? Pricing on the 525's has dropped almost $500 at retail locally and I have to assume that part of the drop is the fact that the 725's are now out, and also that there's a ton of newer DLPs, LCDs, and D-ILAs either just out or coming out and Mits is thinking SELL-SELL-SELL because the more positive exposure you have the more buzz you'll have.

Very little. Some say the new screen is better than the very shiny glare screen on the 525. Cosmetic difference with black fabric over the speakers rather than the silver plastic on the 525. Don't know if the former feature of the on-screen TV Guide will be available via firmware upgrade as is rumored to be the case for the 825s.

It's easy to remove and the User's manual has instructions.

The screen on the 725 may be better than the 525 but it's too reflective for me. The store I saw it in had it in front of their glass doors. I could read license plates in the parking lot.

I've never had the chance to see what the Mitsubishi DLP's look like without having to look through reflections of the room around me.

So the mitsu dlp's are like the other mitsu sets in that they separate the ntsc from the atsc channels as separate "devices" in the menu, so you can't browse through both at the same time, right?

technik

NO....both NTSC and ATSC can be viewed within the same device ANT1 or ANT2....ATSC shows up as sub channels and is renamed automtically. You can choose to prefer digital or analog.

As you may have seen from past posts I have been researching and just received a 52725. First I want to thank so many of you on these Mits forums and well as some Sammy forums. I have been debating which way to go for as long as I knew about the choices. I felt so informed as I made my final decision to go with the 725.

Now that I have it, I will probably turn to sharing info and seeking input on things that may arise from time to time.

Please let me fire off some questions and whoever might know can respond.

1) What is the AVIA disk for color alignment? Where do you get? How important do you think it is to setting the TV properly.

2) By reading this site, I saw someone had an issue having one of the memory cards see .mp3 files. They said the received firmware for something else and problem went away. My set not reading .mp3 files. Called Mits and was told that was not a known issue so no need to send firmware. The guy did say he would have someone call me back. Any other ideas, suggestions or comfirmations of this issue.

3) Think I posted this already, but will post again since no response from last post on this. I have PC hooked up and the color on screen seems to missing a lot of the red. Other than that picture looks good. Using ATI RADEON 8500. Have DVI to VGA cable to the 725. Using VGA - VGA cable going to PC monitor and it is fine. So could it be the cable?

4) Please help me on how this firewire stuff is going to help me. I understand that devices (like DVDs, VCRs...) that have firware will be controlled through Mits on screen controls. I thought I was going to be able to send video over but I hooked my camcorder up to fireware and video did not out to TV except by using the old RCA input. Besides remote control any other good / planned uses for the firewire connections. Can I send stuff from computer to TV via firewire - what, how????

Well I watched it all day yesterday and no issues other than above and just learning what all the remote can and cannot do for me. As mentioned in previous post I did not see HD because no OTA antennae. I have one coming (and waiting on HD TIVO to come in). Heck this weekend you can bet I will find a way to make it HD. I am out of town so missing my new TV.

So I'll keep reading here for all the latest information.

First of all, what is your firmware version? Secondly, there are a few things you must note:

* memory cards as large as 128MB are supported as long as they are formatted as FAT with a block size of 1024 or 2048. You must format memory cards using the disk management in WinXP or using a digital camera to make sure that they are compatible with this format. There was a report that someone had used a 256 MB card with success as well, so it may very well work as long as the block size is correct.

* Your DV camcorder will be unable to display video over firewire because the firewire on this set requires an MPEG2 video stream. DV is a different video format and is not compatible. You will however be able to control your camcorder over firewire, but video must play usign S-Video or Composite. I have a DVCR that I have successfully used to record off-the-air high definition broadcasts using the firewire hookup. Depending on your software, your PC may also be used as a firewire source as long as you can put out an MPEG2 stream.

A little off topic, but since you mentioned it, I may as well ask. Is it possible to record from the TV to a computer via firewire?

Thanks UMD_Terp. Your reply is informative and detailed.

I can easily check the memory card specs you mentioned. That is probably the issue. The smart media I was using came right out of a .mp3 player that probably formated it for itself.

The firewire video makes sense now that you explain the mpeg 2 decoding. I will give the PC to 725 a try using the mpeg2 software.

Thanks again.

What firmware are these new 725's coming with? Go to the TV MENU and under SETUP, you should see the Netcommand software version... what is that reading on these sets?

With regard to the XX525 vs the XX725/XX825 Mitzis, the main dif between the 525 and the other two is the screen although there are other features (cosmetics & Technical). The 725/825 feature the same "low-glare" screen that they use on the CRT RPTs in the Diamond series. If you see the two side by side, there is a visual difference, but the low-glare screen still has some reflections and it cannot be compared to any of the typical Sammy, LG, or JVC screens which don't reflect anything. The company line is that it reduces glare by 70% over the glass-finish 525 screen, so take that for what it's worth. I honestly think that the Mitzi (outer) screen covers add something to the PQ but it's hard to describe. There's a little more depth, sharpness, or something.

Most dealers already know that the outer screen is consumer removeable and that there are instructions in the manual for doing this. According to a Bernies rep in our local store, Mitsubishi will be selling a "trim kit" that consists of a snap-in frame and it will cover the unsightly outer fastening edge of the main screen when you remove the glossy screen. He said the price of the kit will be $60 and it should be available in October.

In other threads here in AVS one poster has suggested a viable alternative would be to go to a frame shop and have them cut a exact-size replacement for the glossy screen using low-glare photographic lexan. This will probably cost less than $50, but the one "problem" would be that you might see some border stuff that you won't like. Solution... mask off the backside and spray a black krylon border to match the factory look. The only thing missing would be the Mitsubishi decal, and that might be available from a number of sources.

The Mitzi XXX25 DLPs are generally acknowledged to have a great picture, and connectivity is also excellent. About the only drawback is the glare, and it seems like it's resoveable. If Mitsubishi marketing reps read this thread, they should take note of the glare issue because it could be costing them sales. The screen on the 725/825 is a marked improvement and suggests that the screen in the 525 is detremental to sales and a mistake. What they should do is offer all 525 owners a replacement screen at no cost (call it a retrofit) or charge them $100.00 not $200.00. By selling a replacement screen and/or offering it on the 725 they are already admitting they made a mistake, so why not build some consumer equity by doing the right thing? Are you listening Mitsubishi? It's part of your Marketing 101 mantra... you have to spend money to make money.

I was under the impression that the 825 has a better anti-glare screen on it. 725 has a anti-glare Diamond shield and the 825 has a high transmissivity anti-glare Diamond shield.

bgriffis: I think buried somewhere in the "2004-2005 Mitsubishi DLP's!" megathread is a picture of a setup with a center channel balancing precariously on top of a xx525. The poster was asked about it and he said it is no problem because he doesn't have kids to knock it around.

I do have a kid that will knock it around, so I plan on cutting a wedge out of a styrofoam packing block and securing it by velcro to the back of the tv as a support for the center channel. Won't get my 62725 to try it out until October, though.

The stand is so low to the ground that it seems the center channel would be too low and removed from the screen there. Any comment from owners?

millerwill
09-21-04, 01:08 PM
2left: Sounds like a very good, and workable, solution.

By the way: what height stand are people using with their Mits 62" dlp. As I calculate it, if one wants the mid-point of the screen to be at eye level (38 to 40" from the floor), the stand should be only 14 to 15" high. Is that right?

UMD_Terp
09-21-04, 01:10 PM
The matching stand for my 52" 525 is around 15" high.

So the stand for a 62" model should be even lower, right?

I suspect it's exactly the same. Would seem to me that viewing height depends on things like how far back you'll be seated and at what height. The angles will matter more than an absolute measurement of height. No?

DC

millerwill
09-21-04, 02:01 PM
DCinDC: Sure, if one sits far enough back the precise height will matter less--it is the viewing angle that matters, as you say. Still, one may not wish to sit so far back, and my understanding is that the optimum height is for the center of the screen (vertically) to be at eye level.

On stand height for the 62" Mits:

I calculate that the vertical midpoint of the 62" set is 26.4" from the bottom of the set, so that a stand height of 12.5" would put the midpoint at 39" above the floor. This is consistent with UMD Terp's comment above that the Mits stand for the 52" set is 15" high: for assuming that the speaker dimension is the same for the 52" and 62", the midpoint of the 62" will be 2.5" higher than that of the 52", meaning that the stand for the 62" should be 2.5" lower (and 15" - 2.5" = 12.5").

52725 delivered and setup from Ultimate Electronics on Friday.

Unit has the 1/2" ccw tilt others have observed on xx525. I called UE Sat, they were going to talk to Mits rep and get back to me. Spoke to UE today, and they said there was an issue with mirror getting displaced due to change of shipment packaging. Instructed me to "twist" the cabinet and mirror should drop in place. He said Mits rep demonstrated the same technique with in-store display units they just set up. Will try this tonight when I get home; I've read in other threads about "twisting" the display. This kind of fix doesn't give me a warm feeling...

I'm driving this mostly with HD DirecTivo unit via HDMI @ 1080i. I've noticed that after shutting off the TV at night and then turning on in the morning that the only way I can get the TV to display is by cycling through the different formats of the HDTivo. Maybe this is discussed in other threads related to the HDTivo unit - been reading too many other posts lately to remember.

millerwill: I hope an actual owner will post the accurate height, but when I did a "quick and dirty" measurement with a ruler several weeks ago, I came out with 13-3/4" as the height for 62" stand. I ordered the stand because its lines match perfectly with the tv, it needs to be pretty low, and it was surprisingly reasonable in price.

btw - when estimating the center point of the screen, I think the speakers on the bottom of the tv set need to be considered. I think the center point of the screen sits higher than 26.4". Again - any acual owners?

1) What is the AVIA disk for color alignment? Where do you get? How important do you think it is to setting the TV properly.

hyperdoc,

AVIA is a calibration disc used to calibrate both video and audio. There is also the DVE (Digital Video Essentials) disc as well. Both help in adjusting your set to NTSC standards. In my opinion having either one of these discs is an essential part of a home theater setup. I try and recalibrate my audio and video setups monthly.

They can be purchased online at various places and at amazon.com. Since I just broke my AVIA disk this afternoon I ordered DVE from Onecall.com. It will be here Friday.

Received my 62525 at 3 PM. I just ordered it yesterday afternoon! Pretty good service from Best Buy, I must admit. I've spent the last 3 hours trying to figure it out. I finally got the demonstration thing off the screen everytime I turned it on, providing I could get IT TURNED ON! Just parked myself in the toilet, together with the manual and discovered the "remove the glare screen" page, and promptly took a credit card and ripped it off. much better picturenow. But I'll have to wait until tonight to see 720p HD for my first time. my initial reaction is the picture is on par with the WS65807 I am giving my nephew. Stay tuned for more.

I'm looking for a little advice from all of you Mits owners. I have had tunnel vision for the past month, waiting for the Samsung hlp 5674 to be released. I have 51 inches of space to fit my next tv and the 5674 is 50 inches. I have expanded my vision and noticed all the rave reviews with the Mits. The WD 52725 is 50 inches in width so it would work out perfect in my space. Here are my questions.

1) Is this tv a CRT DLP? and is that different than the samsung dlp?

2) Will playstation work better with the Mits? (all i've read is that it sucks on a samsung)

3) what happens to the PQ when the anti glare screen is removed?

4) is there a possibility of burn-in?

I know that one drawback is that there is no DVI slot, and I use Direct tv with an hd tivo receiver. Hopefully i can connect my dvd to the hdmi and the tivo to component and still have great pq with both. Thanks for all of your input.

Are any of the Forum Sponsors Mits Dealers?

I am stuck way out in the middle of nowhere and my only local Mits guy wont deal below retail on what he calls a "Special Order!" I want the 62725 now I just have to figure out where to buy it. If anyone has a dealer in AZ, NV or CA who has dealt or will deal please PM me.

DLP is a micro chip display. There are no CRT tubes involved. Both Samsung and Mitsubishi also make CRT based RPTV sets.

3) what happens to the PQ when the anti glare screen is removed?

The 525 screen is protection only. The 725 screen reduces reflections from direct and ambient light but does not eliminate it.

Once either protective screen is removed the set looks like the Panasonic and Samsung screens. You can't see any reflections and a bright light will just make part of the screen a bit lighter than it does if you turn off the light.

Removing the screen is not difficult if you follow the instructions in the user's manual. The down side is that the screen can be damaged and the front of the set is not as attractive with out the screen. Mitsubishi is supposed to be coming out with a kit to improve the looks of a set with the screen removed.

4) is there a possibility of burn-in?

No.

I know that one drawback is that there is no DVI slot,

There is a HDMI connection which is the same thing only it can do more things. There are cables with DVI on one end and HDMI on the other for situations where the input device is DVI and the TV is HDMI.

UE from Woodbury MN. delivered our new, September manuf., 52725 yesterday and all I can say is that it was worth the waiting and reading of the forums. I had already purchased the stand and was just waiting to get the word that they started shipping.
The delivery guys were very helpful when they looked at my "rats nest" in back of the tv and asked if I wanted them to connect it up. They even knew by looking at the mess how all the stuff was running from the Denon reciever. They seemed to enjoy the challenge. And I relented and said YES.
The SW version of the set is ....... V26 004.02
I have not seen any "tilt" issue at all, so that must have gotten fixed with the XX725.
I have noticed that the PQ on local digital is better with the Dish-811 than with the 725's tuner. I still have what seems to be a very dark picture, but this may be fixed with a good calibration. I plan to have that done shortly.
The screen reflectivity issue seems what I expected, and am pleased with the results.
I think the remote that comes with the TV is just adaquate. It has the ability to turn on components, but not to tweak the major settings for them. Maybe I need to study the manual more and get to the meat of the settings.
Keep this forum going, as I have had a great time reading and learning from the "Pro's"
Will keep posting as more experiences happen.

I checked out the 52725 today at UE and ended up buying one myself. I was quite pleased with the PQ and minimal glare. If only they would build a decent stand for it, I'd be a happy camper. BTW, I also bought UE's extended warranty that now actually covers the bulb replacement. Sales guy said they changed their policy a couple weeks ago. It was news to me.

I'm running a Dennon AVR2805. Currently all my components run to the Dennon and then Dennon then feeds my SONY CRT. The Mitsu 52725 will be delivered later today. Talkiing with the store yseterday they daid all the guys do is deliver. How did they hook yours up. In my case, I have both a large and small dish. The large dish feeds 2 different vcr's. The little dish feeds one of them and directly into the Denon. All thru regular RCA mini plug cables. I also have a JVC dvd player that is hooked to the Denon by optical and S video.

Any suggestions.

Just want to chime in....waiting for delivery of my 62 this week (I hope). Must have for MNF next week!!

So, has there been any confirmation that the xx725's are shipped with the latest firmware that fixes the "reset" issue (among others)? Or will we have to go through the same process that the xx525 owners did?

dwarren2,

Merely a suggestion........
If you are comfortable with the current setup, stay with it. Use only one input on the 52725 hooked to the Denon. In the NetCommand (NC) menu, access the 'Review' feature and uncheck all other inputs. Then, when you have a little time, study the TV's owner's manual and it's discussion of NC. You will find that if you want to use the TV's remote to control your other components and switch audio on the Denon, NC is the way to go. It does take some setup and a small learning curve is involved. Some find it very useful because it allows others in the family to control the TV, AVR, VCR, DVD player etc, etc with one remote and you don't have to prepare a 'document of procedures' for others to use in your absence (speaking from personal experience here...).
One more suggestion...... if you choose to use NC, do not use it's default of IR codes for manufacturer's products. In other words, if you own a Sony DVD player for instance, when setting up NC choose 'Other' when NC prompts you to select the manufacturer of your DVD player. This will allow you to use the 'Learn' feature of NC. You can have the TV learn codes from the Sony's remote. This allows much more control of the player with the TV's remote than NC's default codes.

Sorry for the long post.........hope that helps :)

Thanks for the quick reply. I most probably will keep the current set up. My wife is technology challenged. So keeping things the same until I get a real chance to figure the system, should be the way to go. I'll be using OTA for HD to start. Then I'll have to decide if I want to upgade my Dishnet system and/or add a HDD200 to my big dish.

How do ya'll handle this issue ??

I get my HDTV picture looking good, but when I have to tune to a SD channel is seems too bright and sharp. I'd hate to have to adjust the settings every time I watch SD. Overall the SD picture is better than I was expecting.

I am using TWC cable HD connected to Component input so I'm not switching inputs between HD and SD !

I have the 52525 as well, and mine only does this if the power has been disconnected from the set... For instance, yesterday, we had a thunderstorm roll through, and I unplugged all my components. The TV did this when I plugged it in and powered it back up.
This is the only time mine does it... It is repeatable.

I'm waiting for the 52725 to arrive at my local store as they are going to let me swap it for my 52525 due to the glare I get in my main room. I have removed the glare screen and it is gone without it, but I have a little one running around and I want to make sure its as protected as it can be so therefore going to go for the 725.

cjut01,

From what I've heard, BB probably isn't going to carry the xx725 or xx825 in their normal stores. They will carry it in their "Magnolia" stores which is essentially their high-end brand store for the BB label. I actually had a xx725 ordered from a Magnolia store in the LA area and they were going to deliver to San Diego for the same price from their local BB.

Worth looking into.

I have a 62725 on order with a projected arrival to the Sound Advice - Miami, Florida (Tweeter) warehouse of 10/6. (I am not too optimistic that it will actually arrive on 10/6 as it seems to take awhile for the TVs to trickle across the US from the west coast to the east coast and the 52725 has not even been spotted here yet)

Does anybody have any connection at Mitsubishi that would be able to give a better idea of the potential arrival date of the 62725 to the EAST COAST???

Any information would be appreciated....

The Lamp is included in the 1 year warranty and its stated on page 95 of the owners manual.

The expected life is somewhere between 4K and 5K hours from what I have heard. I cant seem to find it stated in the users manual however.

The service manual lists the following under "Abnormal LED Indications",
the Lamp LED on the front will turn yellow for "Usage time over 4000 Hrs".

The Service Manual does not give any indication of life for the Lamp.

Owners Guide Warrenty:
Parts: The VIP lamp and all other parts (except any software incorporated into this television) are warranted for a period of one (1) year from the date of the
original purchase at retail.

Labor:The VIP lamp is consumer replaceable and labor for replacement is not covered under warranty, please refer to the Owner’s Guide for replacement procedures.

I have tried this with my $599 Toshiba laptop and I dont think it has a video card that supports 16X9. It will do 4:3 pretty well however. But wont be using it with the TV.

scpanel,

Thanks for the effort, I appreciate it!

I'm interested in this set. If I buy one, it would get A LOT of use as a computer moniter. Hopefully someone else will give this a shot.

I also want to know if the set's inherent overscan can be adjusted via the service menue.

scpanel
09-23-04, 10:06 PM
I expect like any other set it can be adjusted in the service menu. My set has about 4-5% overscan from what I can tell with DVE.

But Since I have that HDMI issue I may have this set replaced so I am taking it slow. Although crimping the HDMI cable seems to have helped secure the connection.

The VGA input on my 62525 has a normal mode with some over-scan when connected as a computer monitor. This is the best quality mode with what appears to be 1 to 1 pixel mapping. The image is very sharp. It also has Reduced1 and Reduced2 sizes which allow the computer desktop to be displayed without over-scan. However there is some loss of resolution. There are a number of compatible resolutions in addition to 1280x720.

I'd rather have a bit of overscan than loss of resolution. The best of both worlds would be reducing the overscan via the service menue.

Do you have any plans on trying out the HDMI port with your PC? Of course that would require an DVI------>HDMI cable.

The 4x3 Resolutions are 640x480,800x600,1024x768.
The 16x9 Resolutions are 848x480,1024x600,1280x720.

Some of these choices result in a over-scanned or under-scanned display with limited size choices.

Download a copy of the owners manual to see the options. They are on page 80 of the WD-x2525 manual.

Hi Melonhead,
That's interesting that they are covering the bulbs now. I ordered my 62725 about three weeks ago and asked about that...they specifically said it didn't. I'll be asking about that tomorrow! If you don't mind, would you PM with how much you paid for the Performance Guarantee? I don't know if posting it would violate forum rules, but just in case...

IFLYSWA, we (UE) did just add bulb coverage on our warranties. It added a c-note to the cost of the warranty. It covers the bulb for 3 years and covers up to 2 bulb replacements during that timeframe. I think you can change your plan to the new bulb coverage if you are within 30 days of the purchase date... give your salesman a call.

Thanks for the info, BigAl. I'll have to do a little calculating to see if it might be worth it to move up. Since I already shelled out 4 and a half C-notes for the Performance Guarantee, I might just call it a day and roll the dice. From what I have been hearing, the replacement bulbs run around $200 (with trade-in of old bulb)....does that sound right?

Thanks again!

Woohoo, My dealer just called me and told me that my new 52725 came in and it will be delivered this morning! It wil replace the 52525 that I got a week ago... I had a big glare problem with the 525 in my viewing room with the protective shield installed, plus I figured I might as well have the latest model. With little ones running around the house, it needs to be protected as much as possible. I hope the glare is really reduced...

I'll post back with results once the set has had time to break-in and after I have calibrated with DVE...

I recalibrated again last night and here are the results. Since I broke my AVIA disc these are using DVE.

Just a reminder, I am using the HDMI for my DISH DVR 921, and this set now has about 70-80 hours on it. This is about as close as I could come with the color test patterns and the red and green filters. This is using the Panny XP30 over component video.

Green 41
Cyan 31
Blue 31

Contrast 35

Sharpness 31

I plan on spending more time with it again this weekend. I am anxious to hear if anyone else has experienced the HDMI connector problem I have. I have tried 2 different cables too, but as I mentioned in an earlier post, by just crimping the HDMI connector on the cable slightly I was able to tighten up the connection.

Also as requested I will post more pictures probably this weekend.

I have a 55813 and I have been through 2 bad one's so now I'm thinking about going to the 55725 DLP. The only thing is when I go to stores and view them they look so bad. It's hard to explain it's like allot of compression and not clear at all. Pretty much every store I go to same thing I know the connections they have are bad and people would be returning them if they looked that bad. I want to hear from the new owners of the xx725 series and how the picture quality stands up to a RPT CRT. I'm only concern about the DVD and HD part of it I don't watch much analog these day's. Thank's for any input you all give and thank's all for sharing your thoughts on these sets.

One more question is the fans loud on the 55725's?

scpanel

I think the black levels are pretty close to CRT levels. Its the best I've seen in a DLP to date. I actually brought down my 27 in Sony and compared side by side after I recalibrated last night. I am really impressed w/the black levels of this set. I can't wait to hear others comments as they get their sets.

As far as the fans, I think the fan on my DISH 921 is louder than the TV fan. I dont really notice it.

Few updates...

Soundtrack (UE) is expecting first shipment of 62725s today.

Spoke to Mits rep today, 725s will not have TVGuide on Screen and it will NOT be available via software upgrade. 825s will have this feature, but it will have a fee associated with it.
Rep also indicated that the 62725s should be available nationwide by the end of next week.

Are they playing the same video thru non-hdtv's? I think a lot of places do that. They are feeding a common signal to all tv's. You need to find an HD feed. Took delivery of my 52725 yesterday afternoon and am delighted.

Looks nice! No to turn this into a stands thread, but it looks like the TV overhangs the stand just a little bit. Does that bother you at all? I really like a stand I've found at CC (their Maxim line made by Z-Line) but it is 55" wide and the 62725 is 58.3" (I'm guessing 58.25, really). The stand is also around 22-24" tall, and I'm not sure if that is maybe a touch too tall. It has a lot better storage potential than the Mits stand, though, and I think it is pretty good looking.....now I'm just wondering if it might not be worth a try....

My stand is a Sanus and I need it all open for my Krell equipment. And as you can see given the room, really cant go much bigger and am OK w/the overhang..

BTW, I called Mits about the HDMI problem too. They told me that some HDMI cables wont work w/the TV.

I think it may be the same problem I am having where it is not making a tight connection., and by crimping the cable it made a tighter connection. So they are supposed to call back in 48 hours. I still think its a tolerance or an orientation problem, we will see.

Plus with my heavy equip (the TAS is 100 lbs) I really like the casters so it can be moved easily for cleaning, dusting. My set in the picture is up about 22.5" w/casters and is about the right height for my room given the kitchen is about 6" step up from the family room.

Strange... I only have one number after the first one. Did you guys ever answer YES to the quesition about replacing bulbs that the TV asks you after a reset of unplug? If you answer yes, then you will have one number stored for the 'old' bulb and the second number is your current bulb usage.

I posted last Sunday when I got my new 52725. Since then I have a few updates and questions.

I was able to hook up a OTA antennae to get the HD channels. Watched CSI last night and thought the HD could be better. I then saw the Tonight Show and thought the HD to be GREAT. My digital signal strength is at about a 6 and I have a much better antennae coming in soon.

Not sure if I am just getting more critical of the same picture that I saw on the first day (which I thought was great) but it seems that all pictures (HD, DVD and Sat (DirecTV) seem to have noise or static. Not sure if this is just a pixel adjustment thing or some signal issue or me just being critical. It also seems to be worse as you get close to the edge. Any comments are welcomed.

I noticed the tilt issue today when viewing PC screen and then found it also on a DVD that had black bars (top and bottom). I called for service on this. I read there are adjustments and decided I can just wait and let official service guy do it and then if something not right, I can exchange. Actually not a major issue at this time.

My PC input is still off in color. I have not seen any comments on this from past post so any comments are welcomed. Issue is the color seems to be missing reds or a lot of the red. Not sure if an adjustment at the TV or computer or a cable / connection issue. My computer monitor looks fine and it is connected to the same VGA card. The 725 is connected to the DVI output on ATI 8500 card.

I am also noticing the green trim on left side of faces in certain situation. Not a major issue but if someone has good solution let me know.

I do have the software update on the way. That should bring me up-to-date on latest firmware. I called Mits support to get the software because of inability to read smart-media .mp3 files. Should get this Monday. Will update how that changes things.

Can't wait for HD football games this weekend.

Will get HD Tivo receiver in a week or so (on back order).

Updates to follow those occurrences.

I'll post some pictures in subsequent posts just in some are interested.

My guess is it may be the cable. It is a Belkin DVI to VGA cable. Either cable or bad connection. Can't easily get to back of TV so will probably wait until have to do something else on back to try another cable or check connection.

Just hoping someone might have an idea, just in case not cable, did not want to wait to correct.

scpanel, thanks for posting those two pictures of your place. I got a good idea of your layout now. No offense, but you need to clean that place up, haha, just kidding cause mine isn't any better. I'll post a picture now so you guys can help me out for where I should put a 50" tv. Problem with my place is the huge sectional couch that would make the person on the closer side of the couch right next to the tv. OR I could move the couch but then the tv would be along the side of a wall....it would be in the middle of the room and that can't be allowed.

scpanel, what are each of those components under your tv and what brand? thanks, oh and also, how do you have surround sound, I only saw one speaker on the side.

I have Krell HTS 7.1 and the Krell TAS on the left and the Panasonic XP30 and DISH DVR 921 on the right. Check out the first picture, I have the B&W's strattling the fireplace and the center channel in the middle. The reason is I am planning on taking the rock out and doing a mantle w/a projector and screen eventually,

So, can we take a poll of the 725 series owners to see whether or not they have the guide, along with what sources support this feature for those individuals?

I just tried this and at the bottom of the screen it says:
"Programs not listed on the guide have not been provided by broadcasters....... or something like that.
Which I think means that if the station hasn't provided the info, you can't see it.
I tried all my stations and some of them have given info for the programing. I can't understand the code that they provided, It does'nt give you an understandable program description.

I was up real early this morning and in a dark room w/backlighting took one last shot at tweaking the set as it now has about 150 hours on it. And I spent more time with the red and green filters. I think it looks great now.

Here are the settings. This is using the Panny XP30 over component video.

Magenta 36
Red 40
Yellow 29
Green 41
Cyan 33
Blue 31

Contrast 29
Brightness 46
Sharpness 21
Temp Low
Tint 28
Color 32
V Noise std
Edge on

Other than overscan an bringing it under 2.5% and tweaking the picture geometry once we know more about the service menu I think thats about it for now.

Don't go by the list on the website. They didn't list many around me either, but there are a bunch of dealers in my area. You either need to call them up or look around your area for authorized dealers yourself. I have no idea why they wouldn't keep that list more up-to-date.

I believe you need to distinguish between the "Channel Guide" that provides some information on channels and programming and the "On-Screen TV Guide" which provides more information based on what "TV Guide" has. The latter is what is supposed to be missing from the 725s and even the upcoming 825s. RUMINT has it that it's just a licensing issue and that it will be available in a subsequent firmware update (at least for the 825, not sure about the 725). I think BigAl had some additional info on this in another thread.

I don't think this is correct. The PVR will allow you to record from multiple sources including analog OTA, HD OTA, and other inputs. The details are posted on another thread here somewhere (sorry I can't find it right now...we just had a baby and my brain is still fried).

At the same time, I think the price difference between the 825 and the 725 is a lot for a PVR, supposedly better anti-glare screen, and cool cabinet.

So has anyone figured out the "precise difference" between a XX725 and XX525 yet? If the only difference is the protective screen, and the program guide (TV Guide) then I think I'll keep the 525. I removed the screen and get "0" glare. I have an HD Tivo for the program guide. Am I missing something?

The guide sounds like the same guide that comes on the 525's, and NOT the "TV GUIDE" by Gemstar, which was supposed to be on the 725 and 825.

That's correct from what I understand. I fyou read back through this thread and others you'll see that Mits delayed the "On-Screen TV Guide" for the 725s and 825s. I've also seen posts that say it may be available (at least on the 825, but I can't see why not on the 725 as well) via a firmware update.

The guide you guys are seeing is the same as the guide on the 525... With my cablecard, I automatically get all the channel names/call letters in the guide. I think this ability is cable company dependent.

I think this set is plenty bright... more so than you would ever need. Excessive brightness is not a good thing... in store showrooms and such, a set with the jacked up contrast will always stand out, but will not always have the best picture.

DCinDC,

The preliminary spec sheet for the 825 says, in part, that scheduling DVR recordings may be done by using the Guide. In that the 825 has a hard drive coupled with the fact that at least part of the system operating software will be resident on the hard drive, I would think that it may be possible to upgrade the software on the hard drive as well as in firmware. I would suspect that the 725 without a hard drive is less flexable in this regard.

Just speculating.

I was at Tweeter today and I thought the Samsung 5063 looked better than the Mits 52525. The glare was killing me, but its an amazing picture. I still think I'd go with Mits just because its seems to have less bugs and no lag on video games.

Everyone keeps talking about the glare screen and removing it is the best move, but it makes the tv look ugly. Anyone got a picture they can post of this?

Good point. But, inasmuch as the 725 was supposed to have the On-Screen TV Guide as well, I thought it might be possible for them to get it via a firmware upgrade since they were never intended to have a built-in HD.

I guess time will tell. However, it is making the price differences at each level tough for me to justify, particularly if the reports that the glare is not significantly decreased from the 525 to the 725.

The price difference now is only like $200, I believe...I think that difference was going to be greater when the OS TV Guide was supposed to be included.

There is a fairly substantial difference in the glare reduction...the guys from UE were doing a little demo for people with a 52525 and a 52725 next to each other, and turning them off. You could get a good feeling for how much less glare there was on the 725 that way. It certainly isn't eliminated, but it *is* better. It all comes down to how it looks to you....

As I posted earlier in the thread, I had a problem with the HDMI cable making a proper connection. At first I could not get it to work at all. I tried a brand new cable from Bluejeans then a DVI with an HDMI adapter and couldn't get either to work.

I then determined that it might just not be making a proper connection and if I moved the cable at the HDMI connector I could get some picture but it was ugly, red. blue, and there were shadows. So what I did to get it to work was pinch the HDMI cable connector to make it fit tightly. Now it is fairly tight but do have to say that if I touch or move it I lose picture.

BlueJeans is sending me another cable tomorrow to try, but since I have already tried 2 I think its a tolerance problem with the HDMI connector in the TV. Plus I think the orientation of the connector is part of the problem.

I called Mits and they tell me that others are having a problem where some HDMI cabled don't work, and I told him that I suspect its not the cables but a connector tolerance/orientation problem. As I said I have already tried a few and even a DVI/HDMI adapter and the only one that works is the one I pinched to make a tighter connection.

Mits is supposed to call back by Tuesday and my new cable should be here sometime tomorrow. If the new cable doesn't work, which I suspect it wont, I will have already called Anderson's and will have the set replaced as I have not heard any other complaints from others in these forums until your post.

It will be interesting to see what Mits says too. But other than that I love the TV. I just hope that if I have it replaced the new TV is as good as this one, like picture geometry, no tilt, etc...

First day I have been able to see football in HD. It is great!- Problem is anything less than HD is annoying. My HD is via OTA and I will soon have DirecTV HD-Tivo so will then have more channels to choose and it will be easier to deal with on remote.

Current issues:
Slight Tilt - noticable when in PC Monitor mode. Called for service on that.

Red not showing through in PC Monitor mode. Screen is clear but not natural colors. Still waiting to try some things on that. It is a pain to pull the TV out of my cabinet so have not been able to try another DVI -> VGA cable or prove that it is the input on the TV.

First time for me watching NFL in native 720p and although impressed, I'm inclined to still give a slight edge to CBS's 1080i (even though it is downconverted to 720p). On this afternoon's Giants Stadium game, the playing field appeared to have some sort of mozaic pattern to it.

Did a VERY quick Avia cal, then just sat back and watched the Raiders (SD) and a few Tivo recordings in HD. Very nice. Don't see any of the artifacts / problems others have reported, except fan is evident when audio is low. May need to soften the wall behind.

Master & Commander looks GREAT with the black levels and all.

I think I'll have it ISF calibrated, but probably wait a few weeks so the tech can get experience on other people sets :-)

I have a question for the "Pros" of this thread. What actually does a calibration of the DLP TV's consist of? I am on a list of people to have my 52725 calibrated and want to know what the guy meant, at the calibrating business I visited, when he said that the grey scale is the most that they can adjust on those TVs to get them calibrated. Did I hear him correctly or is there something I missed? I hope I''m spending the money to get it done is the best thing to do. Thanks: Lyle

HDSapper
09-27-04, 09:47 AM
Gray scale is the biggest part of an ISF calibration. It is adjusting the levels of red and blue (relative to green) trying to make them consistent from dark black (0 Ire) to bright white (100 Ire). They will use a colorimeter and signal generator, and need to know which values to adjust in the service menu. Most often they are trying to set the color temperature at 6500 K for the entire range.

Other things often done during calibration is tweeking convergence (not needed on a fixed pixel display such as your DLP) and correcting geometry problems and overscan.

So far, I've only seen a 52525, but I also visited a Mits Diamond dealer and he showed me the "low-glare" screen that Mits uses on CRT RPTs and said it's the identical material. There is a noticeable difference in the glare (reduced) but it's not 100% gone... just a lot more tolerable.

With regard to features, I thought he said the actual current production 725 isn't any different than the 525 other than the cosmetics and the screen. There was supposed to be a built-in guide... hence the $200 higher price. Now when you ask the Tweeter (or other) salesguys why the $200 boost they can't give you a straight answer to justify the cost.

The 825 is supposed to be the same, cosmetic differences, but with the added feature of the 125 Gig (?) DVR. Again... it seems a bit pricey. The 52525's are now being heavily discounted to the mid-$3K range and may be a helluva buy feature-wise (true HD2+, Memory Card Interfaces, back panel, no side-speakers, etc.) if you can live with the screen glare.

Frankly, I think the Mits' PQ may suffer somewhat if you remove the outer protective screen, but it's just a hunch. If you have a 525, darken your room to ideal conditions and try it both ways and let us know if the depth or sharpness seems a tad off.

HI, newbie here. First post.

I purchased wd62525 and its been great so far.

Here are a couple things I have experienced.

when using the component connection from my samsung 360 to the 62525/DTV port i get a pop up message when changing channels" check power or connection". The picture usualyy drops in within a couple seconds, but I guess the 62525 sees it differently. It's annoying because the message must be cleared manually. I do not get this when using the s-video or the HDMI connection.

Also, I had a video problem with the HDMI connection. The picture would either flicker or not come in at all. I assumed it was the cable, so I exchanged it at BB. The 2nd cable seemed to sanp in, and all is well so far.

Oh and don't forget to hit the dvi output button on the samsung 360 to switch to dvi output.

I had to do 2 things.

1. hit the output button the the front panel of the sam360 and switch to dvi.

2. setup a device on the 62525 to use the monolink port as video input.

hope this helps
