View Full Version : LOST - on ABC in HDTV - NO SPOILERS
Sayid claimed that was the altitude when commenting on how unlikely it was that any of them survived.Oh, so Sayid was in the cockpit then? :) Didn't the (now dead) pilot say the plane's radio had gone out? Perhaps they were having additional equipment failures/anomalies beyond the radio? Maybe they were much lower than they thought/were supposed to be? I mean, if The Island really wanted some new people it would probably do it's best to make sure the chances of some of the people surviving were increased wouldn't it ;).

Not really sure why anyone would get worked up over this. I never said he was in the cockpit. Sayid is ex-military and could likely tell by the cloud formations how high they were. Does anyone doubt his competence? He's not much for speculation, that Sayid. If he says they were at 35k (or 30k, can't remember which), I'm not going to doubt him.
If the island wanted survivors, especially specific survivors like Walt and the baby (then unborn), a plane crash seems like the worst way to do it. I don't think the true cause of the crash or how certain people lived when others died has been fully fleshed out. Let's see what happens in Season 2.

Sayid may have been quoting the flight's planned cruising altitude (the pilot may have even announced it at the beginning of the flight). But if they encountered a lot of turbulence and had equipment failures, the pilot may have reduced the altitude before the plane actually broke up.

And yes, I don't think anybody outside of the people working on the show knows at this point what actually caused the plane to go down. Not so sure Season 2 will even tell us either :D.

bronowyn 05-31-05, 03:54 PM Somehow... smoke monster thing as evidence... I don't think they are trying to keep a firm grip on reality.
Mr.Poindexter 05-31-05, 06:36 PM While the smoke monster thing seems mystical, I think they are just trying to create a mysterious atmosphere. While on an island, you could show something that people wouldn't recognize and would be bewildered by. Show the same thing to 10 million people on the Internet and if it is based in reality, you will find out immediately everything there is to know.
As for a plane crash being the worst way for the island to get specific survivors there, what better way would you suggest to get Walt and Claire to be out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, a thousand miles from Fiji or wherever they are? You certainly are not going to get them there in a car accident, fishing boat or with the promise that they may have already won an all expense paid vacation to an undisclosed exotic location.

Sayid was a communications officer in the Rupublican Guard. Basically he worked on radio systems and interrogations. If he was in the Iraqi Air Force, I would put stock in what he said as to their altitude. Heck, if he was a weatherman, science teacher or physical geographist I could see it, but a communications officer?
Some people are saying the premise of the show that they survived the plane crash was impossible. People survive plane crashes - just watch Alive to find that out. Perhaps the way they showed the plane going down was incorrect, but I think they just wanted to seperate two groups of survivors and that was thebest way the writers & producers could come up with. I do agree that a tail breaking off makes for some pretty bad odds for survival, though.
rickmccamy 05-31-05, 08:11 PM Crimently- Dexter, the focus of the post was why nobody had noticed Locke in a wheelchair. They had just survived a devastating air crash, and most people would not remember seeing their mother at the airport.
35,000' is an average height for commercial jets, so sorry Charlie, I assumed. Okay, their airliner broke up at 250', they are still amazingly lucky to be alive. And most likely in shock.
As for Sayid, I think most people who are aware of their surroundings, and experienced air travellers, can make pretty good estimates of their altitude.
Or maybe they had one of those speed/altitude/position trackers going that they have available on a lot of international flights, and that is where Sayid got his info from :)

What I meant was how do you ensure that the people you WANT to survive make it? They seem to have wanted the Walt and Claire's baby, maybe even Locke. If you down a plane, how do make sure those three live?
If they didn't care who lived/died I can see a plane crash/shipwreck etc being semi logical.

Sayid just seems to know his stuff. He doesn't comment on subjects about which he knows nothing (not like us ! :-)
Anyway, since it's a TV SHOW, I'll assume the writers had Sayid say that to establish the altitude :-)
Regardless of whether they crashed from 30k or 10k, it's a miracle that any of them survived a crash on land.
That's what I love/hate about this show, it gets normally rational people to spend several paragraphs debating the altitude of a fictitious flight. :-)
CPanther95 05-31-05, 10:59 PM It's only the last few feet that are problematic anyway. ;)
dmbatch 05-31-05, 11:26 PM It's only the last few feet that are problematic anyway. ;)
Yeah, I think it crashed at sea level. It started at 35k feet. Who knows how high it was when it broke apart.

So all I need is a digital photo of Jesus and 10 million strangers on the internet will be able to explain to me the meaning of life and God? COOL!! :)

My guess would be based on similar PA announcements that seem to accompany every flight ever made:
"Good afternoon, everyone. This is your Captain speaking. On behalf of the entire flight crew, I'd like to welcome you aboard. In a few minutes we will be turning off the Fasten Seat Belts sign; after this, feel free to move about the cabin. We do ask, however, that while you are in your seat, you keep your sealt belt fastened, in case we encounter any unexpected turbulence. We will be cruising at an altitude of 35,000 feet, and our flight time to Los Angeles will be approximately fifteen hours. Once again, welcome aboard. And we thank you for choosing Oceanic Airlines."
Ever hear anything similar?

On the home page is a message from the "president" of Oceanic Airlines in which he mentions a "tragedy" with Flight 815 that has put the airline out of business. Note that he does not say "crash". It is unlikely that a single crash would put an airline out of business. So what kind of "tragedy" would?
At the top, click on the link for "Track Flight" and on the page that opens, type in 815 into the Flight Tracker search box. The page that follows shows something very interesting. Flight 815 is shown as leaving Sydney at 14:04 (4 minutes late because of Hurley). Note that instead of "Landed", like the other flights, it says "Alert". BUT over in the columns for Arrival, it shows an ACTUAL ARRIVAL TIME of 03:23, only 7 minutes later than scheduled. The plane actually arrived in Los Angeles! It did not crash! So what was the "tragedy"? What was the situation when the plane arrived? Were all the people we see on the island not aboard, and the airline can't explain what happened to them? Maybe the plane arrived and no one was aboard! I don't know, but I am thinking this may be a BIG CLUE!
Why does it say departed gate 15 when it departed gate 23?

Kennebunkport... I just walked through that large house being built across the street (sort of across the street) from Bush's house.

seandudley 06-01-05, 11:13 AM Does anyone know the date that the new season of Lost starts? Don't want to miss an episode!
seandudley 06-01-05, 11:41 AM I was just at that site (http://www.oceanic-air.com/home.htm) and I happened to notice that as I was navigating that on the right side of the screen, some text overwrote the "We regret to announce" text, but it was displaying at the same time, so it just looked messed up and was hard to read. I highlighted the new text, and it seems to be some sort of message. Here is what is said:

Robert D. West, of Santa Barbara, California, USA survived a horrific plane crash and is stranded on an island somewhere Northeast of Australia and Southwest of Hawaii. In the event that I am never found, please forward word of my fate to parents, Mr. and Mrs. John West, of Tucson Arizona. Thank you.

What do you guys make of this?
Well I finally watched the last episode on Monday. I had a power outage right in the middle of the show last week - that sucked! I just sat there, in the dark, thinking I must be dreaming, this couldn't be happening. Anyway I just finished reading every post since then, whoa my eyes hurt!
I must say that I had hoped for more answers from this last show, but I still liked the show. It doesn't surprise me that they left more questions open, this is how cliffhangers work.
When they showed how quickly the "others" boat was moving on the radar I thought to myself that it must be small to be moving off then back on the radar so fast. I didn't expect them to have Walt kidnapped, good twist.
Actually several pages back I theorized that Sawyer is hanging off the side of the Pirates boat and will be the hero, returning with the boat and Walt and they will return to the island in the powerboat.
I had this same thought! And/Or it's the other guy hanging on.

This is VERY interesting! I wonder if this info will be related to the show or if it's just "dummy" information to populate the site!
Can't wait till next season - anyone know when it begins??

Here's another:
If anyone should find this message, please get word to Sandra Rafflethorpe of Palm Avenue in Lewiston, Idaho that her sister, Sally is alive and stranded on an island somewhere in the South Pacific. Please send help soon. Things are bad. And they're getting worse...
Puckhead012 06-01-05, 12:02 PM This is my first post here, so please be kind if I don't do things quite right. I think I have something important to contribute with my first post. Has anyone else found the pink "script" sheet hidden on that webpage? It's on the same part where the "Important Notice - All Flights Cancelled" hidden text has been found. If you click just right, your cursor will turn into a different cursor that looks like arrows pointing in all directions. You can then drag a picture around to view it, or right click and save it. It is what appears to be an alternate version of events from Exodus Part II. If it is legit, it is MOST DEFINITELY a spoiler. It describes exactly what the monster is. I don't want to say any more about it, cause I've seen many an argument about what does and does not constitute a spoiler. I can post the picture if you're having trouble finding it, but only if it's agreed to that it is ok. Don't want to ruffle any feathers with my first post.
What do you all make of this???
seandudley 06-01-05, 12:10 PM OK, I just found a piece of the script to LOST on that site. Off to the right side of the "We Regret to inform you" link, I saw something sticking out of the side a little bit and tried dragging it. When I did, I dragged a secret image into the window. I am not quite sure how to get it to appear on the site, it just did. I captured the image which is a page from the Script of lost with some writing on it. I have attached it.
CPanther95 06-01-05, 12:12 PM I highlighted the whole page and pasted into Excel and it showed up.
seandudley 06-01-05, 12:13 PM Hi Puckhead,
I was writing my message about that, and when I got done I saw yours. I guess we found it about the same time :).

That pic has been around since right about the time of the finale. Not sure how much cred to give it. Pretty cool though!
Myrtledog 06-01-05, 12:18 PM Just a thought here but why on Earth would they put something like that on the site if it was true. Revealing the "monster" will be one of the huge moments on the show. One I'm sure they will want everyone talking about the next day around the water cooler. It's a big ratings draw to get us to tune in each week hoping to finally find out what it is. I'd be shocked if they choose to reveal it that way.
ucsbgaucho 06-01-05, 12:21 PM Those secret images were posted last week... including one of the pink paper unobstructed... I love stuff like this!
Also, about Locke, obviously no one noticed him on the plane, I mean Shannon and Sayid obviously didnt realize who eachother was on the island, he asked her to watch his bag and she got him almost arrested, and they didnt figure that out on the island, so I doubt anyone paid attention to a man wheeled down the jetway in a wheelchair.
the website flight815.com DOES actually exist... well at least the domain name is taken... it was registered Dec 1, 2004 by someone at domainsbyproxy.com in Scottsdale, AZ
CPanther95 06-01-05, 12:22 PM The seating chart is interactive also. If you click around enough, occasionally a seat will be highlighted and you can click on that person for more stuff. Shannon's gives you the detailed map that Rousseau drew.
CPanther95 06-01-05, 12:23 PM If you are reading this note PLEASE get word to my wife, Christina Smith that her husband,
Jake survived the crash of Oceanic Flight #815 along with 47 others.
Darling, I miss you so much and dream of the day I can see your face again.
The very thought of that day is all that keeps me going here. Please don’t forget me!
Jake Smith
seandudley 06-01-05, 12:23 PM Yea, it does seem odd that they would reveal it like that, doesn't it?
I was wondering, does anyone know if the names that have been found on that site (Robert D. West & Sally) are names of anyone that we know about? I don't remember these names. Are these maybe other survivors that we haven't yet been introduced to?
CPanther95 06-01-05, 12:28 PM This is Bob Jones, of Tulsa Oklahoma and I would like to inform the First National Bank of Enid that I will be late making my September mortgage payment as I am STRANDED ON A FRIGGIN' ISLAND IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE! Please have the government send a search team immediately or don't all the taxes I pay cover an expense like that?
seandudley 06-01-05, 01:10 PM So, how are they getting the messages out? Message in a bottle?
bronowyn 06-01-05, 01:24 PM Can't wait till next season - anyone know when it begins??
Here's what I found out..
1. Lost will move to Wednesdays at 9pm starting next season. (It was Wednesdays at 8pm before) This will put it right against American Idol.
2. Here is all the competition for Lost next Fall:
CBS has "Criminal Minds" CBS Fall Lineup
from the WB a new show called "related" WB Fall Lineup
from Nbc a new show called E-Ring: NBC Fall Lineup
FOX has a new legal show "Head Cases" FOX Fall Lineup
UPN has "Veronica Mars" UPN Fall Lineup (One of my favs!!!)
3. VERY VERY DOUBTFUL... I saw something on IMDB (Guest Stars):
"Genesis: Part 1" Episode: #2.1 - 23 September 2005
Samuel L. Jackson .... Bernard
The Problem with this.. is that I just told you it was starting on Wednesdays. Sept. 23 is a Friday. Maybe the 21st? Or the 28th?
DeathOpie 06-01-05, 01:28 PM Some of the seats that dont get highlighted, (at least I haven't gotten them to yet) Hurley, michael, walt, sayid, and sawyer. Jacks seat highlights, but nothing happens except that Rose's seat comes up. Sayid's passport shows up when you click on Shannon's seat.
bronowyn 06-01-05, 01:34 PM Actually, that's not true... Click Jack's seat at a certain time, and you'll see a little vodka bottle...
Did you all click on the numbers? Not the seats, the numbers below the seats... not just the numbers... "THE NUMBERS"...
It shows a trailer.

I would hope that whatever they put on that site would not be crucial information as far as advancing the story. I don't want to have to play around with an internet site just to be sure I am up to speed as far as the actual show goes.
DeathOpie 06-01-05, 01:40 PM Your right, I was thinking that the vodka bottle had something to do with the Koreans. I didn't notice that it was russian. If you click on his seat again you get Rose's seat. I think her husband is on the island alive. We haven't seen her since the beginning.
FOX has a new legal show "Head Cases" FOX Fall Lineup
Off-topic: I got to see the pilot for this show. Not too shaby. It will get killed by Lost but it looked like it would be a decent show.

ucsbgaucho 06-02-05, 11:51 AM So for those of us who re-watched the Pilot last night, did you guys notice anything that you didn't pay attention to the first time around? I loved it because I didn't get ABC-HD until halfway through the season, so I hadn't seen these first few in HD till now. I couldn't make out any ghostly apparitions or anything when the "monster" appeared... Though I did take note this time of when the monster first appeared and the black lady said "that sound is very familiar to me" and someone asked her where she's from and she said "Brooklyn". You East Coasters, is Coney Island in Brooklyn? That's all I could think of, especially when someone noted that the sound of the monster was like a roller coaster clicking up the first big hill. Maybe the monster is just a big old wooden coaster? :)
My girlfriend also noted this... You know how we all think that Jin is just being super-protective of Sun because its their culture and thats how things are, etc? Well, now that we know that some guy working for Sun's father threatened Jin in the bathroom of the airport just before he got on the flight, what if Jin's overprotection of his wife was because he thought this guy may have been on the flight with them, and subsequently somewhere on the island with them as well, out there to possibly kill them both?
Mr.Poindexter 06-02-05, 12:01 PM I heard somebody saying the thing sounded familiar and when asked where they were from, they said "Bronx" which is why we have the zoo possibilities. Coney Island isn't in the Bronx or Brooklyn that I know of, but anybody from there might have been to Coney Island a few times - like living in San Diego but having been to Disneyland.
I did notice one thing kind of weird. I think it was about 52 minutes into the show or so. There was a leaf on the right side of the screen and it had some glowing stuff on it like the predator blood, but not quite as obvious. It was when Kate and Charlie are walking through the jungle. Sorry I don't have a screen cap.
lexluthor 06-02-05, 12:06 PM Coney Island is indeed in Brooklyn.

I noticed that both Hurley and Claire were nearly killed by the falling wing.
CPanther95 06-02-05, 12:28 PM Is the Season 2 "preview" fair non-spoiler discussion? Not much in it, and it is an "official" trailer - but want to hear if there are any objections.
bronowyn 06-02-05, 12:34 PM It's ok by me. It's not much of a trailer anyways. I thought it might be footage from this season with different wording.

I guess since the season is over it would be okay, the problem arises when there is info from other sources, where do you draw the line? If it's an ABC preview it should be fine, but what about stuff from Lost websites? Otherwise I would say put it into the spoiler thread.
BTW, where is this preview?
So for those of us who re-watched the Pilot last night, did you guys notice anything that you didn't pay attention to the first time around?
They planted a lot of clues for Kate's backstory that I hadn't noticed. When Jack told his story about his near-tragic operation while Kate was stitching up his back, Kate said she would have run for the door if that had been her. "You're not running now." Kate says nothing.
When Jack describes what he thought happened during the plane crash, he cut a leaf so it had wings and a tail, like a toy airplane. As Jack showed how the plane dived Kate was completely mesmerized by this little airplane. Now we know why.
Did you notice that Jack woke up in the middle of a tall bamboo field but not one stick of bamboo had been disturbed? He had to have come straight down from the sky on his back which is hard to imagine. Also he was several hundred feet away the rest of the crash, as if he had fallen out of the plane before (or after?) the others. Most likely, they wanted to start the series with the most disorienting shot they could think of and those wide angle shots of bamboo were incredible.
How many crashes did ValueJet have?

Pretty sure the brief glimpses of people running through the jungle were from this season. If not, it certainly shows nothing.
The only value to the "preview" (for discussion purposes) is the wording. The wording is very bold and deliberate.
Keenan - the preview is on the Oceanic website setup by ABC. If you go to the seating chart of Flight 815 and click on the Row numbers of the "magic" numbers (4,8,15,16,23,42) it will play the trailer for "Season 2 - Fall 2005"
PJO1966 06-02-05, 12:57 PM Personally, I don't want to know what's coming in season 2... I may be in the minority there.
CPanther95 06-02-05, 12:58 PM We'll keep it in the spoiler thread.
Maybe the monster is just a big old wooden coaster? :)
No, but it could be some piece of mining equipment that uses a similar method for dragging things around underground.
Personally, I don't want to know what's coming in season 2... I may be in the minority there.I'm with you. Some of the stuff coming off the web sites, like the supposed "rejected" pink script page about the "monster" and the "inadvertantly" posted ep summary about the french lady and Claire and the baby (before the whole ep was shown), is really spoilerish. I really didn't need to know Rousseau was going to take the baby ahead of time...
ron
Mr.Poindexter 06-02-05, 01:50 PM So we have Coney Island in Brooklyn and the Bronx Zoo in Bronx. The lady in the pilot said she was from Bronx. I don't know where Rose said she was from - I guess that is in part two of the pilot.
In her previous TV series, Mira Furlen (Rousseau) played Delen where there was a war between light and shadow. She was most assuredly on the side of light, but while she was very perceptive, she didn't get the "big picture" to see what was really going on. It was a military commander who realized what everything was really all about.
Any possibility that we could see the same thing with Locke or will he be the one who is caught up in the "good side" to see the whole picture.
We'll keep it in the spoiler thread.
There's really nothing there but I could see how part of it could be construed as a spoiler, but I think it's been established that we know that already.
We'll probably see this promo during the summer and I suppose that would be the time to talk about it, or not. Probably best to keep it to the original parameters of the show itself and the previews following the show.

HOW DOES THIS SITE WORK?? Every time I go there via the hyperlink provided in several posts, I get a blue box in the middle of the screen saying:

But the seating chart never loads. What am I doing wrong?

But really, it uses macromedia flash player, so maybe your browser doesn't support this? Maybe check out : http://www.macromedia.com/ and see if you can troubleshoot it.

Do you have pop-up blocker software running? I know I run into that on occaison and have to turn it off to get a page to load properly.

Maybe it depends on your settings; I use Firefox, and as far as I can tell the site seems to work fine.

I had the same issue. I'm running IE with pop-up blocker enabled. After several tries it just started working. I put it down to a busy server on their end.

I've had this happen several times and also had it load correctly several times without doing anything different. I think the site just gets busy and slows way down.

DONT GET ME STARTED! :-)
neoufo51 06-05-05, 07:55 AM Seems that Carlton Cuse, the co-producer, told fans to pay attention to those two younger men on the boat because they are a "long range clue"
Now...those two younger men on the boat that took Walt...they are identical twins.

Exodus: Part 2" Episode: #1.24 - 25 May 2005
George Alan .... Flight Attendent
Michelle Arthur .... Michelle
Wendy Braun .... Gina
Glenn Cannon .... Old Scooter Man
John Dixon .... JD
Jonathan Dixon .... J.D.
Robert Frederick .... Jeff
Mira Furlan .... Danielle Rousseau
Compare this...to the pilot episode cast list....
"Pilot: Part 1" Episode: #1.1 - 22 September 2004
George Alan .... Flight Attendent
Michelle Arthur .... Flight Attendant #3
L. Scott Caldwell .... Rose
John Dixon .... Flight Attendant No. 2
Jonathan Dixon .... Flight Attendant #2
Greg Grunberg .... Pilot (uncredited)
Geoff Heise .... Man
Kimberley Joseph .... Flight Attendant #1
Fredric Lehne .... Marshal (as Fredric Lane)
Interesting eh?
Lemme put this in perspective to you all...
Ian Somerhalder (Boone) said that his character was being talked about for coming back next season in some way or another...now...if you guys havent gotten the clue yet...plain and simple...season 2 may reveal that
The DEAD come back as the OTHERS.
Yep...it will explain why Jack's father's body was missing from the coffin...and why the OTHERS seem to be able to whisper in the trees without anybody seeing them. They may just be another form. The island is bringing back the dead to be recruited by the others, and Walt himself...with his psychic abilities...may be the key to helping them get back to the earthly realm??? But how come they can be on a boat and hitting people and such AND dissappear on a beach like when Jack saw his father?
It makes sense...however...I kinda hope this isnt true...because it seems kind of cheap...its like nobody will die on this show. They will just be back in some form. I dont like this idea too much...so...I dunno....I mean...Harold Perrineau's wife played the Lotto girl and the Woman Sawyer was about to sleep with when he was interrupted...so I'm kinda hoping this big theory isnt true...although the more I think about it...the more its fitting the pieces of the story in...
We just have to wait and see if JJ and Co. really do have this in store...
tivoboy 06-05-05, 11:26 AM yeah, maybeeeee!!
"WALT SEES DEAD PEOPLE!!!"
petergaryr 06-05-05, 03:05 PM The thought that flight attendants can morph into seabillies scares me even more than the "island security system/monster/pissed off giraffe". :)
hongcho 06-05-05, 03:13 PM So what happens if the dead people (aka "the others") die (as in Ethan). Do they really die or come back again, or become "the other others"? :p

Paul Bigelow 06-07-05, 11:29 AM The Others would seem to be more than ghosts -- they have solid shape.

And now they done gone and opened up that hatch!

Mr.Poindexter 06-07-05, 01:08 PM I wonder what this thread is going to look like in 2 months. It was hard enough to go 4 weeks without new episodes and hear all sorts of odd speculation.
I suppose we are going to be inundated with shots of Michelle Rodriguez in her undies now? ;)
By the way, what is with Jack? Michelle was practically throwing herself at him and he just wasn't interested or didn't have a clue. Strange duck if you ask me.

Dunno...dead father perhaps? :-)
Since she walked away to take a phone call I'm not sure she was a sure thing for him anyway. At least not then and there...perhaps back in LA. And now on the island.

He does seem to have some interest in Kate since you can tell from his looks during moments whenever Sawyer's with Kate. Odds are that Sawyer will be back this Fall, and odds are that Michelle R. will add another corner to the triangle so as to string along the triangle...

That may depend on how fast Jack and Sawyer's love affair takes. I need to talk to my contacts, but I believe that Jack will have to nurse Sawyer back to health after his gunshot wound, and that's when their courtship will begin.
As for whether or not Kate's and Ana-Lucia's romance will blossom immediately, or after Jack and Sawyer's wedding on the Season Finale, I will again have to contact my sources. ;)

LOL!!! First of all, I'd like to state for the record that I don't think Matthew Fox is gay... actually, I don't know if he is or isn't and really couldn't care less. Not to mention that Josh Holloway is married... not that that means anything...
I was just making a joke after some people brought up Jack's personal preferences. You got to admit though, not many people would expect those plot twists?! ;)

Frank Duckett is one of the voices? That's the name of the man Sawyer killed in Australia (or is who he thought he was killing). How would he be on the island, unless the "Others" are ghosts from each of the characters' pasts?
Is this transcript official, or just something a fan compiled?

6/6/05 - Is This A Hoax As Well?
Lost Links received an anonymous email with the following unverified information - "Just to keep you informed, the perpetrator of the Samuel L. Jackson / Tina Wesson / Angus Scrimm hoax on IMdb was an infamous internet hoaxster code-named "Seraphaem". From what I understand he's recently become a co-editor at TV Tome and has access to ABC. Be warned that most of what solid reporters have been giving as fact is indeed misinformation being parsed through this hoaxster. He has buried himself deep within legitimate sources to cause trouble."

timick1 06-08-05, 04:20 PM I DVR'd last weeks repeat of the pilot episode. I went to watch it last night... and it wasn't in HD. Are the repeats not going to be shown in HD? Or have others here watched last weeks repeat in HD and it was just someone here forgetting to "flip the switch"?
Thanks,
Tim
But what makes a spoiler? My $0.02.
Not spoilers:
Pointing out a detail in an already aired episode. (eg. Appearances of the comic book and the specific panels shown.)
Enhancing a detail in an already aired episode. (eg. Security system sounded like..., Black Rock had "Portsmouth" engraved in the back..., the whispers sounded like they were saying...)
Pointing out details about an already aired teaser. (eg. Locke's bloody shirt changed in the teaser where he was shot.)
Identifying "guest stars" in already aired episodes. (eg. The actor playing the Ana-Lucia character has appeared in a couple of movies.)
Your synopsis of what happened in an episode. (eg. Shannon character was just standing in one spot screaming immediately after the crash. Kate gave ambiguous answers or was evasive in early episodes.)
Pure speculation on your part of an unclear / unexplained detail, whether right or wrong. (eg. The people on the boat that grabbed Walt are pirates. The people on the boat are fishermen. The people on the boat are the "Others". The people on the boat are aliens. The people on the boat are ghosts. The people on the boat are other shipwreck/planecrash survivors.)
Spoilers:
Revealing "official" internet information about yet-to-be-aired episodes (I'd even put the oceanic-air.com details or clips of upcoming info here just because it hasn't appeared in OTA ABC HDTV yet.)
Revealing "insider" information about yet-to-be-aired episodes (eg., IMDB stuff).
Revealing media reports about spoilers (eg., recent cast member news story confirmations).
Revealing confirmed details about yet-to-be-aired episodes (be it cast, plot points, or even episode titles).
Basically, once it's been broadcast by ABC, it's fair game. It it hasn't, it's a spoiler. If in doubt, link it or wrap it in tags so people won't see it unless accidentally.
CPanther95 has defined a "spoiler" at least 50 times (ok, slight exaggeration) in the past: If the information was in an already-aired episode, or in a previously-aired promo, it's ok...anything else is a spoiler.
Anything from TV Guide, other magazines, other forums, oceanic-air.com, thefuselage.com, or any other source, is a spoiler...
Spoilers are fair game in the spoiler thread; this thread should remain spoiler-free.
—Dan

Basically, once it's been broadcast by ABC, it's fair game. It it hasn't, it's a spoiler. If in doubt, link it or wrap it in tags so people won't see it unless accidentally.
Your definitions are very good, the only thing I would add would be that there should really be no spoiler wrapped posts here. There's another thread for that. I, personally, have chosen to remain in the dark about the show until it airs again in the fall, if this thread goes dead until then it's fine with me. If info is added to this thread that doesn't fall under the above definitions it will only add to the confusion and difficulty of following a conversation in this thread.
IOW, I don't want to come back here after the first episode airs in the fall and see all sorts of posts about how we knew this or that was going to happen because we got the info from somewhere else over the summer. It would make for a very disjointed experience. If the thread has to be dug out of the archives next season because of lack of activity, so be it.
It may sound selfish, but I'll wager there is quite a few here that feel the same way.

CPanther95 06-08-05, 05:19 PM I did try to break my own definition for the Oceanic "preview" of Season 2 - but only because I'm pretty sure it is only a fraction of what we'll see as promos leading up to the second season and we have 3 or 4 months to fill. :)

It's a good thing you're not a moderator anymore, or you'd have to censure yourself. :)
But the Easter egg promo does beg the question: Was the oceanic-air.com web site really set up by ABC, or is it a hoax, or a fan site? And consequently, how reliable is the info on that site. (Could someone good at Macromedia Flash have cobbled that promo together as a hoax?)
WHOIS lists the owner of oceanic-air.com as "Oceanic Airlines, Inc., 23 Airport Loop, Los Angeles, CA 90045"
I didn't think you could register a domain name using fictitious information...

bronowyn 06-08-05, 05:45 PM If you hit the stuff at the bottom of the page, though (Terms of use and whatnot).. it goes to ABC... (well, Disney), Privacy Policy says, "Privacy Policy for ABC", and it's a disney page...
and the very bottom (In a very light gray) © 2005 Touchstone Television
Was the oceanic-air.com web site really set up by ABC, or is it a hoax, or a fan site?

Yeah, I was kind of wondering about that too. When he was "appointed", there was a sticky note with the big announcement; then when he drops out, nothing, nada, not a peep. I sense a conspiracy afoot! What are David and Alan hiding??? :p

Anyone notice a definite "woosh" sound before the plane started going down...very much like it was hit by a missile-type weapon...It panned from rear left to front right very clearly.

Something tells me that if the plane had been hit by a missile, it would not have been a "woosh" sound that was heard. More like a boom!
Mr.Poindexter 06-09-05, 01:30 PM I wonder if when season 2 rolls around this thread will keep going or if there will be a new thread for season 2. I can't imagine what it would be like if this show went on for 7 seasons and we had a 50,000 post thread still active.
PJO1966 06-09-05, 01:41 PM I think a new thread per season would be appropriate.

htevolution 06-09-05, 03:07 PM If subsequent seasons are interrelated, why start a new thread...unless the software can't handle monster threads?
Now if JJ pulls another "Alias" and reboots the storyline, a new thread might be warranted.

C'mon, there's no way you could have dodged those little tidbits of information all the way until fall. There's a lot of time, and a lot of media outlets with a lot to spoil before we get to revisit the island. You'd have to live in a bubble to miss 'em all.
And besides, I believe it was Yours Truly (than kew, than kew vermuch) that first broached the theory that there would be another group of survivors in the tail section. Yep, ahead of the curve I was! :)

lexluthor 06-15-05, 07:27 AM Does anyone know exactly what ABC is replaying this summer? I missed the season and wish I had watched it. Is ABC replaying the entire season over the summer?
Well, I think they just said they were going to replay season 1 but unless they double up I don't believe there are enough weeks to do all the ep. So either they do double up some weeks or drop some ep here and there. If you are planning on watching you better hurry up because you know they started right back up the week after the season finale. They're already up to ep 3 (fourth hour) tonight. You can catch up by reading the ep recaps here:

cyberbri 06-15-05, 12:36 PM The Season 1 DVD will also be coming out a week before season 2 starts. Not much help now, I know... You would think they would get it out more than a week sooner, so people who wanted to catch up would have more than a week to watch the 24 hours or so of it.

I watched the original pilot actually and then somehow dropped watching it. So I'm caught up on the first 2 and have the DVR taping all episodes, so whatever they play, I'll get.
I actually watched the finale too, so I guess I'm full of spoilers as I watch, but oh well, it's still good.
I think the problem was I didn't have HD when the season started. The show is so much better in HD :)

You should be fine. Very few of the most dramatic revelations that came via the back stories were mentioned again since nobody stuck on the island feels the need to communicate with each other ;)

Funny you mention this...I caught a few minutes of this week's rerun the other night. I guess it was the episode where they first heard the distress call.
Everyone that went on the "expedition" was sitting around the fire when Sawyer says "let's talk about what we've seen and heard and, oh yeah, what are we going to tell all the other survivors about this."
Seems like that's the only time in the whole season when someone says "something really weird just happened, let's talk about it and compare notes." I love this show, but if these people are going to survive they've got to start talking to each other.
PJO1966 06-17-05, 03:14 PM I watched this one too, it was the only episode that we missed the first time around. It was the first regular episode after the premiere (I think). I couldn't help but notice how much longer Sayid's hair was after a month or so on the island. Also, call me crazy, but Hurley looked bigger than he did in the season finale. Locke also seemed more child-like and less creepy. OK, marginally less creepy.

First, be sure your browser has an up-to-date Flash plug-in. Most of the goodies won't work without it.

I don’t think it’s a stretch that no airline wanted their name on a plane that breaks up in mid air and crashes killing the majority of the passengers.
:D
drkashner 06-23-05, 02:51 PM Theres a little article about the website in next weeks TV Guide. You have to select the seat numbers in order (the "special numbers" I can't remember all of them right now). I'm sure someone else can.
archiguy 06-23-05, 03:15 PM Still can't get anywhere. There are only two hotlinks that work: "Home" and "Track Flight". (The other four just take you to a "We're sorry...." page.) If you type flight number "815" into the "Flight Tracker Option 1" (from the "Track Flight" hotlink) and then click on the "Track" button, it takes you to a page with 6 flights listed (including 815 with an actual arrival time at LAX!). There are no further hotlinks on the page, nowhere to go.
That's why I'm asking for step-by-step instructions from somebody who knows how this site works, especially how to get to the seat assignment page. I can't seem to get anywhere on my own and I've wasted a lot of time trying. :o

What is lost on that site is a link to the seating chart. Try here.

If you click on the row numbers using the"Special number" (Lottery and ones on the side of the hatch) in order you get a teaser promo for season 2.
You can spend hours on this page looking for hidden treats. Start clicking in the seat and watch for others to turn green. Go to them and it will be one of the main characters. Click on them for a little easter egg.
Have fun.
Satori84 06-23-05, 03:39 PM archiguy- try this link:

bronowyn 06-23-05, 05:19 PM Here's how I got to the seating chart...
1. Track flight.
2. Type in Flight 815
3. It shows you a "Flight Tracker"
4. Click on the flight tracker (it doesn't look linked)...
5. Seating Chart Page appears.
Enjoy!

4HiMarks 06-29-05, 10:29 PM In tonight's repeat I noticed they re-used a snippet of footage at around the 15 minute mark. Hurley, Charlie, and Jack are arguing about the amount of water that's left. Jack says "I'm not going to decide anything." At that moment, a couple walks behind him - black guy and white girl with long dark hair. The camera switches to Charlie for a few seconds, then back to Jack and the same couple walks behind him again. Even the whitecap (just one) on the waves in the background is exactly the same. It's just like the scene with the black cat in the old mansion just before Morpheus gets captured in The Matrix.

Yeah, the thread has slowed down as expected. I am personally really enjoying watching the repeats...looking for new things I missed and seeing the relationships among the different characters develop. The little dialogue between Jack and Locke tonight when they were talking about him looking into the "eye of the island took on a lot more meaning.

So, what did the Agents change?
At least I notice things I didn't notice the first time. At the end of the season Jack gave Sawyer a gun before the raft takes off. Sawyer jokingly responded: "To put the kid out of his misery in case we're starving?"
I completely forgot that way in the beginning of the season Sawyer had tried to do that to the Marshall and didn't do a very good job.
Tom_Bombadil 07-01-05, 01:28 AM Aargh!
I was watching this week's episode in glorious HD. Then a severe thunderstorm watch was issued for my area. Turns out that my local ABC station can only post their storm warning map in SD. So at 40 minutes into the show, it reverts to 4:3 SD with a weather map in the corner.
I missed the original showings and so this is my first time to watch the shows. I was sitting there really enjoying the beautiful HD shots, some of the best I've seen, when BAM! they were yanked away from me.
miltimj 07-01-05, 02:08 AM Yep, a few of us in MN were very much complaining about this when they were being first run. Very obnoxious... I wish it were an option to turn off (though I know that's not possible)... at least just show that there is a severe thunderstorm warning (or whatever), and where to get more information, then go back to the normal program. Argh..

Generally, I don't bother with repeats, but it's hard not to watch these just to pick up on the little things we missed the first time, as has been mentioned. Looked for instances of the "magic numbers" last night but didn't see any. Perhaps the writers had not thought of them yet when this episode was written...?

PQ on my set for this series is the best I have ever seen a network HD show to this point. I had no interest back before I got my HDTV but now that I have my HD set I'm really getting into the series. (And not just for the PQ... that was sort of my gateway drug to getting into the actual content.)

wow ... you must really think yourself to be important.
No, it's just that when I see a thread with "NO SPOILERS" right in the title, I generally expect there to be no spoilers in the thread. (I haven't read before the last page here - I'm just getting into the show - so maybe you guys have been spoling up a storm up to now for all I know. Far be it from me to invade your personal space in a public forum! I guess I just can't be part of your little Lost fraternity.)
I don't really see that it makes a difference that it's already aired. Someone could put up a thread titled "The Shining - NO SPOILERS" and I would expect that everyone would know what "no spoilers" meant despite the fact that probably 90% of the world has seen The Shining through its many TV airings and most of the rest probably at least know the story.
Obviously I understand that there would have been talk about the show as it was first airing - which is why I didn't read earlier than this page - but you don't see the contradiction when there are at least two new people in a thread titled "NO SPOILERS" who have never seen the show before and you've got people talking about stuff that happens at the end while the series is being re-run? Couldn't you guys have wrapped the ongoing series talk up at the end of the season? What else could there possibly still be to talk about? It's been several months now since the season originally ended.
I mean, fine, then, I just won't read this thread. Happy? And some people are wondering why the activity's dwindling in the thread... it could probably be a bit more active again, but spoiling the second run of the show and mocking new viewers is not encouraging new people to come in here and stay.
No, it's just that when I see a thread with "NO SPOILERS" right in the title, <snip>
The No Spoilers in this thread title means anything up to the last regular season episode that aired is free game. A new re-run thread may have been in order.
Although it's probably too late now, but as an example, when Battlestar Galactica started it's re-runs on Universal-HD a new thread was started for all those folks who waited until it came in HD, and the thread was intentionally made spoiler free beyond what had last aired on UniHD so people who had seen the whole season already on SciFi wouldn't spoil it for those seeing it for the first time.
To ask that this thread remain spoiler free when every episode has already aired is a bit much to ask, although, with the season 2 premier quite a ways off still, you probably won't find many of the thread's regulars posting here anyway so those of you that have not seen the show might be safe as far as spoilers go, at least until close to the season 2 premier anyways.
lexluthor 07-02-05, 07:47 AM badasscat,
You've got to be kidding me. There's no way you could possibly expect anyone to not comment about what's been on. Isn't every post more a less a spoiler then? Just don't read it.
Personally, I'm in the same boat as you. I watched the pilot on my old SD set, gave up on the show, saw how well received the show was late in the season and was thrilled when ABC decided to replay the whole (hopefully) season over the summer. SD doesn't do this show justice, but now I have HD and am enjoying it.
CPanther95 07-02-05, 08:20 AM It would be darn near impossible to avoid discussing any show until everyone has seen that particular episode. What if someone misses an episode, do we wait to discuss it until memberxxx gets a chance to see it? We're now about 8 months past the original airing and we don't even wait 3 hours for the West Coast folks when a show airs before discussing it.
You can try a separate thread exclusively for members who have watched only the episodes you have, but to come into an existing thread and expect the 500+ members who have been discussing the show to suddenly switch gears and no longer discuss the shows that you happened to miss is not very realistic.
Don't take offense - it's just the practical realities of the forum.
we don't even wait 3 hours for the West Coast folks when a show airs before discussing it.

PJO1966 07-02-05, 02:19 PM The only other alternative is to have a different thread for each episode, instead of one for the whole series. Actually, with Lost, that might not be a bad idea since there is usually quite a lot to discuss per episode.

Buena Vista Home Entertainment will reveal the secrets of the upcoming Lost: Season One DVD release with exclusive sneak peeks into the DVD bonus features, plus a special Q&A panel featuring actors Josh Holloway (Sawyer), Maggie Grace (Shannon), and Harold Perrineau (Michael), along with co-creator/executive producer Damon Lindelof, executive producers Bryan Burk and Carlton Cruse, and writer Javier Grillo-Marxauch.
Mr.Poindexter 07-05-05, 07:33 PM Yeah, Oceanic Air is like the 555 phone prefix or the Tangiers casino in Vegas. It is especially relevant to airlines since who wants their airline to be the one always depicted as the one that crashes, blows up, gets highjacked, has a nerve gas bomb in the cargo hold or had halt the passengers and all certified pilots pass out from eating the fish.

Yep. Nothing thrilling, but I got it.
Doc
Yup,
Dear Frequent Flyer -
Welcome to Oceanic Airlines -- and thank you for signing up for a weekly bulletin from the writers of "Lost."
We have just reconvened to begin work on Season 2 of the series - after some much-needed vacation and a highly eventful first year that began with the crash of Oceanic Airlines 815 and literally ended with a bang as Jack, Locke and Kate blew open the mysterious hatch while young Walt was kidnapped by The Others... and yes, they were The Others!
As we set out to dramatize such mysteries as the contents of the mysterious hatch and the uncertain fate of Michael, Sawyer and Jin, last seen treading water among the burning remains of the raft -- we thought you might want to know the writers who will be responsible for bringing you the answers -- and a whole lot of new questions -- during the second season.
In addition to series creators J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof, Carlton Cuse returns as executive producer. "Lost" is a reunion for Cuse and Lindelof - who worked together on Cuse's creation "Nash Bridges" (Cuse also created "Martial Law" and co-created "The Adventures of Brisco County Jr"). Before co-creating "Lost," Lindelof served as writer/producer on "Crossing Jordan."
New additions to the staff include co-executive producer Steven Maeda, whose previous credits include "The X-Files" and "CSI: Miami," supervising producer Craig Wright, who previously wrote for HBO's "Six Feet Under," and producer Elzabeth Sarnoff, whose previous credits include "Deadwood" and "Crossing Jordan."
Returning from season one are supervising producers Leonard Dick, whose credits include "Fastlane" and "Hack," Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, formerly of "Felicity" and "Popular," and Javier Grillo-Marxuach who previously wrote on "Boomtown" and "The Pretender."
With this team in place, you can be sure that "Lost" will pack on the surprises on year two. As a Frequent Flyer, you will receive regular updates from the writers room -- so watch your inbox...
...and thank you for getting lost with us!
I just flipped over to "LOST, the Reruns" briefly and saw the ad for Oceanic-air.com.
I'm hoping they'll come up with more ads during the summer, maybe one that will boast the safety and comfort of their twenty year old L-1011's. It'll be good publicity for the reruns.
OK, ran across a preview for S2. Sounds good and hopefully, it moves as quickly as Lindlehoff promises. Hopefully do less with the flashbacks and more with current action, as they did in the last couple of eps. of S1.
I don't know about dragging out for 5 seasons but then again, not surprising the producers and networks want to keep the gravy train going, especially for real lucrative syndication. But if they tease the fans too much with delaying tactics or filler, they won't make it to 5 seasons. Plus if the ratings hold up, would they really walk away after 5 seasons?

Sensational Sneak Preview of Lost
By Ed Martin
What's in Store on Television's Most Talked About Drama
"Who survives [the raft attack], how they survive, where they end up
and how they reconnect with the other characters" will drive the story
Beverly Hills, CA - From the opening moments of the first episode of
its sophomore season, Lost won't waste a minute in providing further
information about the major storylines on the show. What's at the
bottom of that tunnel? Who are the Others? What the heck is the island
all about, anyway?
"Right out of the gate we're addressing some of the big mysteries of
the island," Lost co-creator and executive producer Damon Lindelof
tells MediaVillage.com. "We'll go right inside the tunnel, and what
you'll see in there changes everything."
Indeed, whatever they discover in that tunnel "will change the
fundamental state of existence" of the characters, Lindelof continues.
Viewers won't see quick glimpses of strange things but rather will get
a good long look around.
"We're erring on the side of giving away too much rather than too
little," Lindelof says. "They found that hatch in episode 10. Thirteen
episodes later they opened it up. It's got to be good."
What the characters won't find inside, Lindelof promises, are aliens, a
time travel portal or "a ship they can blast off in." Whatever is in
there will involve those mysterious numbers that led to Hurley's
lottery win and streak of bad luck in that character's famous
backstory.
"Right from the start, in the season premiere, the numbers become a
fundamental plot point for the season," Lindelof says. "People aren't
going to be disappointed in how we use them."
He says the producers of the show wanted to make certain that whatever
the characters find inside the tunnel will be "great, cool and risky."
But, Lindelof cautions, he can "guarantee some people are not going to
like what they find in there."
While some characters are exploring the tunnel, others will be dealing
with the aftermath of the destruction of the raft and the kidnapping of
little Walt by a band of creepy men who are presumed to be among the
community of Others on the island.
"Who survives [the raft attack], how they survive, where they end up
and how they reconnect with the other characters" will drive the story
through the first seven or eight episodes next fall, Lindelof adds.
Lindelof also confirms that the character played by newcomer Michelle
Rodriguez will be someone who was seated in the back of the plane when
it exploded and has been living on another part of the island. He will
not say whether she has been living alone or with other survivors.
He also says that Boone, the one main character who died last season,
will definitely stay dead. "So many times in genre shows when you kill
someone off they come back. On Lost the rules are different. When
you're dead, you're dead!" Lindelof declares.
The other big nagging mysteries in the story - why did Ethan kidnap
Claire, what happened to her while she was held prisoner, what if
anything happened to her baby - will be addressed later in the
season, Lindelof says. "But we have bigger priorities first: The hatch
and Walt's kidnapping."
He says the story about the kidnapping of Walt is especially intense,
because "a child taken from a parent by strangers is the scariest thing
of all." When the Others take Walt, there is no Amber Alert, no Fox
News Channel and CNN reporting the story, nowhere for his father to get
help. There is only fear, frustration and rage. Early episodes,
Lindelof says, will deal with the repercussions of this harrowing
incident.
"That is the big mystery of the island," Lindelof explains. "Who are
these other people and what do they want?"
Lindelof welcomes ABC's decision to move Lost from 8 to 9 p.m. ET on
Wednesday, because more people are available to watch television. He
also thinks the show is "very intense" and says, "children should not
be watching," which they are apt to do at an earlier hour.
"By the finale of season two viewers will know why the plane crashed,"
Lindelof says. He envisions Lost running "somewhere in the neighborhood
of 4-5 seasons."
"I know what the ending [of the story] is," he concludes. "At a certain
point you can only stall [the audience] so long."
Here's a bit of another preview:
But Lindelof stresses the people are the main element. "The island just
serves as a conduit to tell character stories," he says. "No one is
really watching the show for the answers to those mysteries. They're
watching to see: Will Kate and Jack hook up?"
Hmm, does he really know his audience? I think people muse a lot about the mysteries, coming up with all kinds of theories.
Sure there are fans of the character development. But if this is another TV show about the leading man and woman hooking up, something that's been done for decades, would Lost have the following it has?

I'll chime in on behalf of the spoiler police. There's stuff in that preview that are most definately spoilers and probably don't belong in this thread. At the very least, use the spoiler tags.

As has been mentioned multiple times, there are no spoilers at this point. The season has been over for months! A spoiler is only while the season is going... others have suggested creating a separate thread for those who are just starting (or in the middle) of watching the LOST reruns, but this thread is for those who are up to date (at least within a few days) of the last aired episode.
The reason it says "No spoilers" in the thread title is so people who recorded it, etc, and don't watch it for a couple days, so people don't give away too much on the most recent episode.
PJO1966 07-28-05, 01:15 PM Casting notices for the next season are considered spoilers to some.
This is all public info. that the network and producers are disseminating widely, to drum up interest and hype in the new season.
Lindelof said they would go down the hatch but he didn't say what they would find down there. So how is that a spoiler? Also said the numbers would be explained but didn't lay out that explanation. Again, no spoiler.
PJO1966 07-28-05, 01:36 PM To quote something that's been quoted before:
CPanther95 (when he was a mod) has defined a "spoiler" at least 50 times (ok, slight exaggeration) in the past: If the information was in an already-aired episode, or in a previously-aired promo, it's ok...anything else is a spoiler.
Anything from TV Guide, other magazines, other forums, oceanic-air.com, thefuselage.com, or any other source, is a spoiler...
Spoilers are fair game in the spoiler thread; this thread should remain spoiler-free.
archiguy 07-28-05, 01:55 PM C'mon, there are no real spoilers in that article. If anything, it's just tantalizing hints to get people geeked up for the season 2 premiere in a couple of months. But, to be fair, the other uber-thread should probably have been revived instead of this one to mollify those anal enough to not want to hear anything about the coming season before they plop themselves down in front of the tube in September.
PJO1966 07-28-05, 02:00 PM For me, this...
Lindelof also confirms that the character played by newcomer Michelle
Rodriguez will be someone who was seated in the back of the plane when
it exploded and has been living on another part of the island. He will
not say whether she has been living alone or with other survivors.
... would have been something I would have enjoyed seeing without knowing it was coming. That's just me. I don't want to be a pain in the ass so I'll unsubscribe until the show starts up again.
bronowyn 07-28-05, 02:06 PM If you read through the thread at all in the past you would have seen stuff about that new person being in the second season.
I was pretty sure anything that was published was fair game. I wish someone would make another thread for more EXTREME no spoiler policies... nothing that's been published, nothing that's not aired yet, no previews for the next week's episode, no commercials, no interviews. Cause I think we need to set out further limits. IMO, it doesn't bother me to have published stuff on here, but as soon, as it goes into episodes that haven't aired yet, I draw my limits. I think we need a re-mod to set out rules for what this thread should be before everyone starts arguing about it here. There's no point wasting breath on it.
For me, this...
... would have been something I would have enjoyed seeing without knowing it was coming. That's just me. I don't want to be a pain in the ass so I'll unsubscribe until the show starts up again.
That has been mentioned and discussed so many times on this thread already. There were also numerous news and entertainment articles about her becoming part of the show this season. Even if you unsubscribe, you'll have to live under a rock until the fall if you want to stay clear of info like that.
I wish someone would make another thread for more EXTREME no spoiler policies... nothing that's been published, nothing that's not aired yet, no previews for the next week's episode, no commercials, no interviews.
Good Idea. Not. Two threads are already laughable. If you don't want to "spoil" your viewing, do not read any LOST threads!
archiguy 07-28-05, 02:56 PM But, to be fair, the other uber-thread should probably have been revived instead of this one to mollify those anal enough to not want to hear anything about the coming season before they plop themselves down in front of the tube in September.
Not in the habit of quoting myself, but it appears that this is the uber-thread; my bad. But if we want to start discussing the show again and the coming season's possibilities, then the advice to stay away from this thread if you don't want to know anything is probably spot-on.
And I still wouldn't classify anything officially "leaked" to the public by ABC as spoilers. That stuff is all over the media; can't avoid it. This thread got to nearly 7500 posts because people like talking about the show, speculating, etc.
cyberbri 07-28-05, 03:54 PM I considered some of the stuff in the article "spoilers". Then again, if a person doesn't want to know anything outside of what is aired in the episodes at the time they air, then what is that person doing on a thread like this?
Xesdeeni 07-28-05, 04:06 PM I considered some of the stuff in the article "spoilers". Then again, if a person doesn't want to know anything outside of what is aired in the episodes at the time they air, then what is that person doing on a thread like this?I'm personally OK with spoilers.
However--this thread is not supposed to be about discussing the revelations of what we will see in the future. It's supposed to be about discussing what has already transpired and about our guesses as to what might come next. That's why someone would subscribe to this thread--for the community of discussion.
While the above post didn't bother me personally (I'm subscribed to the actual spoiler thread), it is indeed a spoiler. Saying that some of that stuff has already been discussed here isn't an excuse for posting it again so someone who didn't see it has a second change at seeing it.
Can we just refrain in this thread from speaking about anything we've seen or heard outside of actual aired episodes? Is that really so hard?

archiguy 07-28-05, 04:46 PM Can we just refrain in this thread from speaking about anything we've seen or heard outside of actual aired episodes? Is that really so hard?
Uh, yeah! Where's the fun in that? :p
That may sound condescending, but it's not. Part of the enjoyment is speculating (or guessing as you put it) on what might happen. The little tidbits of info that ABC "leaks" is just part of the fun. My experience with LOST this fall is not diminished in the slightest by talking about stuff like who's joining the cast. Goodness gracious, ABC wants us to talk about this stuff, don't you think? Or else they wouldn't be saying anything at all. You'd have to live under a rock, as another poster put it, to miss all that stuff.
On the other hand, if Evangeline Lilly and I go on a date (yeah, that's likely) and she reveals all the travails Kate's going to go through this season, I wouldn't risk the wrath of my fellow AVS'ers to spill her beans. That would be spoilers. ;)
mx6bfast 07-28-05, 05:03 PM Uh, yeah! Where's the fun in that? :p

You can talk about all of that in the spoiler thread. :D Leaks are spoilers, speculation isn't. Altho someone can change the word "leak" to "speculation" at will.
I must be living under a rock then, cause I'm clueless as to what is going to happen in season 2.
archiguy 07-28-05, 05:11 PM I must be living under a rock then, cause I'm clueless as to what is going to happen in season 2.
psst....Michelle Rodriguez joins the cast! Bwaaaa ha ha ha ha! :D
I must be living under a rock then, cause I'm clueless as to what is going to happen in season 2.
I think it's safe to assume that Michelle Rodriguez would not have done a 2 minute cameo for a pointless conversation in an airport bar unless she was going to be back later in the show. Anyone can figure that out...along with all the "Michelle Rodriguez Joins Lost Cast" articles all over news web sites. Then a few months later someone is upset because they find this out?? and that's a spoiler? Oh the horror! The whole show is ruined now!
For me, this...

I'm with you on this one. That is undeniably a spoiler, and as you say, while it was fairly obvious that the character may become part of the show, I too, would have preferred to see it happen on the show itself.
I don't know why so many folks do not understand the "rules" regarding spoilers in this thread.
If one wants to talk about news releases and what floating around the internet, there is already another thread for that.
archiguy, I'm surprised at your position on this, with all the crap that's going on in the world today, it's nice to be able to suspend belief and be surprised, even if it is only from artificial means likes TV.
How's that for raising the seriousness of spoilers to a geopolitical level... :D
CANNON-FODDER 07-28-05, 07:25 PM I'm with the [its a spoiler] crowd.
She could have been a plant on the part of the others...
Heck, she still could be, maybe that's why she survived the tail and no-one else did...

NOT!
C'mon Dude, Michelle joining the cast ain't a spoiler. A spoiler is if someone hears that she and Jack will get freaky and have a baby which then gets kidnapped by the Others, freed heroically by Locke but then, in a stunning unexpected twist that generates 20 pages on this thread, gets munched by the monster.
But, um, you didn't hear that from me.

First part, I don't believe that is a spoiler that she is joining the cast.
That second part needs a spoiler tag. haha

Well, that depends, if we go by the original intent and explanations of spoilers for this thread, anything other than what has aired and the previews for next week's show are spoilers. We really don't/didn't have any idea what capacity she would play in the show, or in fact, if she really was going to become a regular. As a matter of record, I was the one one pointed out who she was and even speculated about her future involvement with the show, but nothing I said was based on anything other than what I saw.
The above article sets her involvement in stone, and even what role she will play. I would have preferred to have been surprised by having a confirmation of the speculation about her being on the show, and then surprised again in what role she would play. It even lays out that there is in fact another group of survivors, something we didn't know for sure by the end of the season.
What concerns me is that the thread will become corrupted to the point that coherent discussion becomes very hard with folks explaining to other folks things that have happened on the air and things that they've read in a news article or off the internet. I like it when the thread explodes with speculation about what has just aired, with articles like the above, and there's no reason to believe that there won't be more as the second season premier becomes closer, we will have folks saying, hey, we already knew this or that because we read over the summer.
I like surprises... :p :D
Anyway though, it's not that big of a deal, and there is an easy solution for those that don't want to read spoilers, when the new season starts, we just start another thread... :D
Like I mentioned, the complaints you people have are falling on deaf ears... we do not have a moderator any longer...
While CPanther95 is not a mod anymore I think he can still edit posts.
CPanther95 07-29-05, 10:30 AM Yeah, but shouldn't have to. There's a spoiler thread and a non-spoiler thread. Definitions have been specified dozens of times.
I think some just get some kind of juvenile charge out of continually trying to re-define the guidelines (by just posting spoilers) and then try to justify it after the fact. Or ridiculously suggest that if you do not want spoilers, you should avoid the non-spoiler thread as well as the spoiler thread.
Is it really that much of an inconvenience to post in the other thread instead?
htevolution 07-29-05, 10:41 AM I hate to admit I was watching this, but Entertainment Tonight had a blurb last night about Michelle Rodriguez joining the cast. Now that the news is "official", is it still a spoiler?
I guess by the strict definition of "aired in an episode or preview" it is.
