shades 10-09-04, 11:44 PM You can stare at her monday night on Jimmy Kimmell , that show is dumb even when they have good guests but i may actually watch monday. Hounsfield 10-10-04, 12:39 AM Her freckles were reversed. That's how I caught it! ;) danco 10-10-04, 12:50 AM The TV guide said there were wild hogs lose on the island. Wild hogs don't drag pilots through cockpit windows 40 feet off the ground and then stash them in the trees... (But really big cats might...) Hounsfield 10-10-04, 12:51 AM Originally posted by CPanther95 Good eye, Hounsfield. The GMC logo on the "bounty hunter's"? truck is definitely reversed and blacked out. Right before the wipe out, you might be able to recognize the raised white lettering on the rear tire. I couldn't make it out, but it was probably clear enough - if you recognized what tire it was - you could tell if it was reversed or not. Yah, I noticed that, too. Couldn't read it though. Might be interesting to see if any of you that have it DVR'd in HD can read the mileage sign in the scene where they're standing on the side of the road... I can just make out "Melbourne" as the bottom line, but I can't read the other two cities or distances. Reason I'm curious is that even though the show looks great to me, I still see a fair amount of compression, and I'm wondering if maybe we're getting "cheated" out of some bandwidth here in Hawaii. The way a lot of you are raving about how great LOST looks in HD, makes me wonder if I'm missing out on the full HD experience (I'm also pretty sure I'm not getting 5.1 audio). danco 10-10-04, 12:51 AM Yeah, it was the way the camera panned him from left to front and the expression on his face never changed, plus the creepy music they were playing. It creeped me out. Was it just me...or was Locke growling as the scene faded out? zeroendless 10-10-04, 02:43 AM Finished dumping 3 episodes to DVHS, total recording time without commecials is 2h2m05s. Parker Lewis 10-10-04, 03:00 AM Originally posted by Hounsfield Yah, I noticed that, too. Couldn't read it though. Best looking series I have ever seen in HD period. CSI is to dark, Hawaii drama is very low detail....Something about Bob is a comedy, So hey it may look good.....Just not much more to compare it to except LIVE football which only looks a little better to me. Gotta say, Me and the wife are very impressed with the detail but have had MANY audio dropouts in 5.1 here on Cox. scowl 10-10-04, 12:59 PM Originally posted by Hounsfield Speaking of attention to small details, I just realized that the whole highway scene was shot with US left-hand drive vehicles, then reversed to make it appear Australian (right-hand drive). Holy crap, you're right. There's a tag stuck on the window behind Kate that's supposed to be readable from the outside of the car. It's (almost) readable from the inside. barth2k 10-10-04, 01:06 PM Originally posted by Hounsfield Her freckles were reversed. That's how I caught it! ;) uh huh. and not b/c her right breast was slightly larger than her left? :) NetworkTV 10-11-04, 12:23 PM LOL! shades 10-12-04, 12:25 AM A reminder for the guys here that evangeline lilly will be on jimmy kimmel tonite, although it will be late because of the game. rogo 10-12-04, 02:55 AM "1. Once again too many commercials!!! Way too often!!!!!" This is not a problem if you have a Tivo. :) The part where they decide to run long, however, is. :( Mark Hounsfield 10-12-04, 03:53 AM Yes, there are too many commercials. I think this could have been great as a high-def HBO series... Hounsfield 10-12-04, 04:47 AM For anyone interested, I took a trip out to the LOST set this weekend, and snapped a few photos: LOST ON LOCATION (http://lost-on-location.incohost.com/index.html) Fair warning: anyone who might get upset seeing the set -- as a set -- may not want to view these. Not that there are any spoilers or anything contained within, but I know that for some, it might "ruin the illusion." I doubt it though, as it pretty much looks exactly like it does on TV... Also, if you want to see some notes about the photos, highlight the rest of this message. Again, no real spoilers, just some factual observations: 1. The photos taken from the car were my attempts to locate the areas where the highway scenes were filmed. I thought I found part of it on highway 803, but the telephone poles were on the wrong side of the road (unless the scene with the mileage sign was reversed, and those houses/buildings in the background were CG'd in later -- there are no buildings around there, just pineapple fields) 2. The site is "guarded" by two kids that look like they're in high school. One of them was lounging under the wing of the aircraft; the other was practicing his sand wedge shot, and neither seemed too concerned that I was walking around snapping photos. In fact, I probably could have walked away with one of the plane's wheels, and they never would have known! Of course, I didn't do that, and I wouldn't recommend anyone go looting, as I wouldn't want their security policies to change. As it is, I imagine that if someone wanted to, they could bring their video camera and shoot their own episode of 'LOST!' ;) 3. The main fuselage, and the tent where the Marshal was shot, is right next to the road! Fortunately for them, there isn't much traffic on the road, especially at the times they appear to film (early morning and after dark). 4. The bodies were still in the fuselage, and the smell was horrendous. 5. There were a few locals lounging around the beach, who didn't seem the least bit interested in the set. I guess they've seen it enough over the past few months. There was also a green sea turtle down by the surf. 6. The valley that the survivors often look up to, has no tall vegetation. The scenes with the mysterious noises and rustling vegetation, must have all been CG'd. 7. Just beyond the Marshal's tent, there was a cargo container and set lighting equipment. 8. Just kidding (about #4). :p 9. Sadly, Kate was nowhere in sight. :( Edited: Updated the link to the new server (too many hits on the last one!) I love this stuff. It's like we have our own E! reporter on the set of Lost. NetworkTV 10-12-04, 10:53 AM It's amazing that it's right there by the road like that. Quite a contrast to the security on most location sets in the continental states. I guess things are just more laid back down there - fewer curiosity seekers. Barbarian 10-12-04, 10:55 AM Hounsfield, Thanks for posting that. What part of Hawaii is that? I was just there but missed my opportunity to see that. We were watching the filming of the show Hawaii in Waikiki. Paul Bigelow 10-12-04, 11:08 AM This looks to be on the North Shore, up towards Waimea, maybe. hefe 10-12-04, 12:21 PM That's hilarious... I almost spit my soda out when I read #4. :D JayDog_2 10-12-04, 02:31 PM Interesting tidbit... While getting my haircut this weekend... I was talking to my stylist about this show... she hadn't seen it, but told me that their new receptionist played a short role in it. I'll have to get the guys name later... From what I gathered he is one of the 'others' that are not really shown, and in fact I don't think he has appeared yet in the series. But she did say that he dies in one of the next episodes. So it stands to reason that the 'others' will be killed off slowly when the story needs someone to die... :) Anyways, thought it was interesting.. The guy has kinda short curly dark hair, regular build... If I see him in the next episode, I'll make a point to follow up with him for some more details.. Oh, and very cool photos of the set! It's amazing that you were able to just stroll up and snap pictures without being harrassed! NorthJersey 10-12-04, 04:30 PM as long as they keep Kate alive and in her underwear, they can kill off anybody else! hongcho 10-12-04, 05:52 PM > as long as they keep Kate alive and in her underwear, they can kill off anybody else! That stained glass looking thing. R11 10-12-04, 07:28 PM If you are talking about the second to last shot :), IIRC, it looks like one of the partitions from inside the plane which I believe had that design on them. ron CPanther95 10-12-04, 07:29 PM Originally posted by JayDog_2 Thanks CPanther95, for editing my post with the spoiler alert... :) I would've done it myself, but I didn't really think I was giving anything away... but I guess, in a sense, I might be giving something away... :) You weren't really, but who knows whether that description will be obvious once we see the character. What part of Hawaii is that? I was just there but missed my opportunity to see that. We were watching the filming of the show Hawaii in Waikiki. It's up on the north shore, across from Dillingham Airfield. Instead of turning right to go toward Waimea Bay, you turn left and go past Waialua and Mokulea, toward Kaena Point. The paved road dead ends just beyond the set, so except for hikers and 4x4ers, there isn't too much traffic in that part of the island. As R11 said, the "stained glass" in the photo looks like one of the Oceanic Airlines (http://www.deanebarker.net/wp/16) plexiglass partitions. Maybe we'll see later why it ended up in the tent? Or maybe the security guards were just screwing around and put it there? Who knows! You should check out that link, btw... pretty interesting stuff! Xesdeeni 10-13-04, 09:50 AM Originally posted by Hounsfield As R11 said, the "stained glass" in the photo looks like one of the Oceanic Airlines (http://www.deanebarker.net/wp/16) plexiglass partitions....You should check out that link, btw... pretty interesting stuff! That link leads to this one (http://www.aint-it-cool-news.com/display.cgi?id=18187), which contains some seriously interesting comments from "the horse's mouth" (co-writer Damon Lindelof): Cannibalism? Of COURSE it's contemplated... but summarily dismissed fairly early on....But don't be too disappointed -- just because they're not eating each other doesn't mean they can't be EATEN.The record speaketh true. NO dinosaurs. Will you get a look at the "thing in the trees" in the first 13 [episodes]? I'll only say this -- maybe you'll see it, maybe you won't... but you'll definitely know much more ABOUT it. So will they divide up? Absolutely. But not necessarily into teams of "good" and "evil." I'll say this -- it takes a little while to figure out who falls into which of those categories... and once someone's defined as "good," it doesn't mean they'll STAY that way (see: Skywalker, Anakin). They will NOT name their island... but that's not to say they won't discover it already HAS a name.Neither the crash, nor anything else, is dictated by happenstance. As to ANOTHER major crash before season four? Hmmmm. Well, probably not another AIRLINER... but certainly something...In other words, will FIVE people perish over the first half of the season? Not gonna answer that one. I will say this -- the herd will be thinned, but that doesn't mean people have to die.We knew about NBC's show from the get-go (hell, I was the only one watching the thing back in 2001)... our concern was always more about WB's "Lost In Space," which could have caused some confusion had it been picked up.There were plans for a new Lost in Space!? Interesting....AICN: How old is Hurley? DL: Hmmmm. Fascinating that you'd ask this. I would say he TELLS people he's 26.J.J. and I decided to have 48 people survive because we wanted to stock the show with as many possible story avenues as possible. As I recall, the network tried to talk us out of it.Greatest thing about the "other" castaways is that they can come forward for an episode, then melt back into the chorus. The popular thinking that their function is purely to be Red Shirts is grossly mistaken. In FACT... We've always loved the idea that one of our series regs goes traipsing off into the jungle with one of the castaways we've never seen before. The audience is thinking the poor yahoo with one line is gonna die a gruesome and horrible death, but then it's the REGULAR who gets wiped out. It will be done. Watch and see. I will not comment on whether or not we'll be meeting any other human beings on the island who were NOT on the plane. But I will posit this -- Who's to say we haven't already? QUESTION: Who haven't we spotted on the flashbacks?Shouldn't there be a "Cancel Seventh Heaven" website or something? Now THAT I would be into.Well, that's a bit harsh. He nor I may be interested in it, but it's not any more inane than [choose your reality show]. Xesdeeni CycloneGT 10-13-04, 10:11 AM Good post X. R11 10-13-04, 11:56 AM That's the interview I ran across right after the first ep when I posted that he said their intention wasn't to use the "extras" as monster fodder. I believe there may be a few other possibilities also. R11 10-13-04, 02:21 PM Or, maybe he just said that to throw another red herring into the mix :D. ron Hounsfield 10-13-04, 05:55 PM Wow, wasn't expecting that many hits... CHris spiff72 10-13-04, 09:17 PM Damn I love this show - that was one hell of a twist there. Nice call on the "walkabout"! I didn't catch the irony there. I must say I agree 100% on the fact that the "monster" sounds very mechanical. Almost like it is steam powered...? This is GREAT TELEVISION!!!! ABC has knocked one out of the park with this show. I agree that he likely scavanged the kill from the monster. But why the mystery? And why wasn't he attacked/injured? Man what a good show. NetworkTV 10-13-04, 09:51 PM Originally posted by CycloneGT I agree that he likely scavanged the kill from the monster. But why the mystery? And why wasn't he attacked/injured? Maybe something on the island "fixed" him. Perhaps the "it" or "they" on the island have a purpose in mind for him. Also - I bet I know what the secret was that he told the kid. CPanther95 10-13-04, 10:00 PM We don't need to go spoiler crazy here. Only worry about any advanced info you may have. You heard something, met someone "in the know", etc. The people in the later time zones know not to read the LOST thread after it airs EST and before they've seen it. Discussion of the show or raw speculation isn't a spoiler. Dvlos 10-13-04, 10:09 PM Medical Investigation and LAX have sucked, luckily the two shows I really wanted to see CSI NY and Lost have been kicking ass. Lost has me hooked, today's show had my wife going "what they aren't going to show the monster or let us learn something new just about the bald guy?" then they throw the big THING at the end and we were just sitting there with out mouth hanging open going "WHERE THE HECK ARE THEY TAKING US WITH THIS?!?!??!" Now that's good TV. Also the show looks fantastic in HD. My 2 cents. trbarry 10-13-04, 11:05 PM How hard is it to drag a dead boar across an island? - Tom Moorebid 10-13-04, 11:13 PM TPS Reports! Whoever came up with the idea that the monster slayed the boar might be on to something, I think it's to early to tell anything. Personally, I think the way those trees were getting knocked down.. it is some type of machine, and if it was a creature he would've ran, ... just all speculation though, see y'all next week ;) Great PQ as usual. Syzygy 10-14-04, 12:13 AM They cheated us by thowing Locke's wheelchair at us at the end of the episode, after showing the supposed invalid sitting in ordinary office and lunchroom chairs. (No bright blue armrests, no push-handles.) I agree that Locke's quick transition to full walking mode (with hardly any pain or weakness) indicates the supernatural, or maybe a collective dream. The creature seems very much like an elephant-sized Predator (as in Arnold's movie of the same name). Maybe it's just a dream too. SD4934 10-14-04, 12:25 AM Why did the guy leave his son with the one person that doesn't speak English (when he went off to hunt and left his son with the Korean lady)? Great episode though. Seems to be going in a metaphysical direction (re the comments when the doc and the lady were walking back from where she had been sitting alone/the man in the suit/Locke). dmbatch 10-14-04, 12:29 AM Jack is the only one seeing the man in the suit and he hasn't slept in 4 days. CHris I agree that the monster/machine is what killed the pig. And when I first saw Locke in the wheelchair I had the same thought that maybe they were all dead, someone mentioned that before, at the time I didn't think that was it, but know I'm not sure. However, when they show previews from next week Locke says "I looked into the eye of this island and what I saw was magic" - makes me think there is something magical/supernatural about the island. Then get to the point and stop dragging on this show for days and days and days. What have we seen in 4 episodes that could not have been told in 14 mins of episode 1? I mean, you can only take the mystery so far... I feel just the opposite ... the longer they can keep the "monster" a mystery the better. One of the big appeals of the first "Alien" movie was the fact that they did not reveal the "monster" until near the end. So, it is not at all irritating to me ... it just adds to the appeal of the program. Vlad_Dracule 10-14-04, 01:22 AM I havent read anything since Page 40... why you ask? The real mystery of this show is how the hell did network tv rope us all into watching a prime time soap opera?? Johnny I'm thinking you're not the target audience for the show.... This is about the characters and the flashbacks give backstory. Otherwise they'd be cardboard cutouts. Everyone's mysterious because apparently several of the characters have a few skeletons in the closet, which probably makes them suspicious of what others might be hiding. shades 10-14-04, 02:04 AM everyone i know seems to think they are on some sort of evil island but i disagree, lets examine some of the people so far, crippled guy now can walk, The girl going to prison is now free and from the way they make it seem she was not guilty of anything really, the guy and his son who never knew each other now get to know each other better, the drug addict according to thet next few episodes will go through withdrawl but since there won't be any drugs for him he will kick his habbit, they have not gone into detail about the others yet but i see a pattern. obviously there are some unexplained things like the woman who thinks her husband is still alive and of course the people who died in the crash but i think a good thing has happened to these people, i think the monster is there to make the audience believe the opposite, just a theory. It doesn't take a very bright person to be able to change the channel of something they don't like. They have made it quite obvious that they aren't trying for a realistic drama. There are twists and turns in the plot. Your logic of getting it done in 14 minutes is one of the big problems in all of Hollywood right now. If you have that short an attention span and can't handle flashbacks for deeper character development just watch Spongebob where you get a complete, tidy plot every 15 minutes. mx6bfast 10-14-04, 07:21 AM Originally posted by drunkpenguin Ok ok ok. But I still have to think about what others are saying, that everyone could possibly be dead. You have Locke, who all of a sudden starts walking on the island. When asked if he got a good look of the monster, which "seemed" to be right in front of him, which is why he was looking up just before the commercial, makes it seem that the creature didn't kill him, but took over his body. Kind of like Invasion of the body snatchers. Locke is clearly trapped in his body, which is how he is able to still have recollections of when he was able to walk again, and when he was in the office with the bus waiting outside. Whatever took over his body apparently doesn't allow him to communicate, which is why the new Locke said he saw absolutely nothing. The new Locke is able to read the original Locke's thoughts, which is why he came back with the dead boar. Going with this body snatcher theory, could be that a dinosaur(s) is on the island, this "thing" overtook it's body back when, and has been able to keep it alive. Maybe the crash from 16 years ago was carrying exotic animals like the Polar Bear and wild boards, and has overtaken their bodies as well. This maybe the magic of the island referred to in the coming attractions. on a side note, my wife also made the comment, "enough already, are they ever going to show this monster ?", and her final thought when the show ended "this show just gets weirder and weirder". good stuff timmy1376 10-14-04, 10:05 AM Originally posted by Vlad_Dracule I havent read anything since Page 40... why you ask? SteveC 10-14-04, 11:25 AM A great alternative to an HD TIVO is to put a $150 HDTV tuner card in your PC and save the HD datastream to your hard drive. Very easy and it works great. The GUI that comes with the card allows you configure unattended recordings. You can then play them back at your leisure at full HD picture quality. If you have the time and desire you can even edit the stored datastream and delete the commercials. ucsbgaucho 10-14-04, 11:26 AM My thoughts after the end of the show were, first, I think Lumberg's gonna ask me to come in on Saturday, I just know it. Oh yeah, and during one of the commercials, I flipped over to channel 9, did any of you guys catch it? The breast exam again! :) Also, who says Locke has been paralyzed his whole life? If that were the case, it would have been impossible for him to get up and immediately start running. What if he had recently had some major accident that left him paralyzed, so he still knew how to walk and everything. That seems more plausible, maybe they'll flash back to how he became paralyzed in the first place, but I doubt it. And as far as the Korean lady goes, being in charge of the boy, I don't think I would hesitate to ask her to look after him. I mean, it was fairly easy to explain to her what the dad wanted her to do, where he was going, and she looks very trustworthy, and very capable, so I don't think the language barrier would have anything to do with it. THe only other woman there that I would have asked would be the pregnant girl, but she wasn't "right there" at the time. It hadn't dawned on me, but the dream/they are all dead theory is a good one. Especially with Locke already talking about miracles and something magical happening. mgh 10-14-04, 11:37 AM Don't mean to gloat but....took my wife out for her birthday dinner and a movie, then came home and watched LOST on the HDDVR supplied by my cable company! CPanther95 10-14-04, 11:38 AM In hindsight, Locke's comments about a miracle are much less ominous now. While it may still reflect him knowing more about what's going on, it could just as easily be isolated to his own personal miracle. drunkpenguin 10-14-04, 11:43 AM I think the title "lost" is a reference to them losing the real script. so they stole as much content from other films and shows as they could find. lets see... *tps reports = office space (actually that whole scene was practically out of office space) *jurasic park = loud thumping dinosaurs that you can't see (i was waiting for someone to look down at a puddle) *gilligans island = i am a terrorist who no more make bomb, me make walky talkie from spoons and beach sand! *castaway = obvious reasons, instead of Wilson we get a Cute Doggy *lord of the flies, survivor, and everything in between = eventually they will form teams and fight eachother, it has been foreseen *6th sense = i see dead people, but nobody else, only me! and i'm not telling *The Island of Doctor Moreau = obvisously there is a master mind f'ing with these people *days of our lives = we will see some major bed hopping soon! tune in next week to find out that the pregnant chicks baby has a father on the island! Yes, and I've heard others complain about that too, but you have to accept a particular show or movie's reality, or you may as well not watch at all. Generally, if a show sets me up with one expectation of how things will go, and what is plausible in their world, I can accept it for the duration of the show. Just don't start off making it seem like everything is all technically accurate and legitimate the whole way and then try to pull off something that doesn't fit late in the game. Don't go to a James Bond movie and then complain that you can't really wrestle another man's parachute off his back and put it on to save yourself while plummenting towards earth at 200 mph. That's just the type of movie it is. With Lost, much like Abrams' other show, Alias, you know you're going to get a mysterious and incredible, and not altogether realistic adventure. As far as bad science, there are web sites devoted to pointing out these type of innacuracies, and they are in virtually every TV show and movie. Don't watch a medical show with a doctor, and don't watch The Sopranos with a mobster (for multiple reasons :D) People with real knowledge will rip them apart. I like the slow and complex story development myself. I find it intriguing that there is something to discover every week. The risk is of course that there won't be a worthwhile payoff or resolution. Perfect example...Twin Peaks. Started off great...lots of things to discover along the way...mysterious and interesting...and somewhere along the way, it fell apart. Paul Bigelow 10-14-04, 01:44 PM I'm sure the goal is to make the audience feel just as "lost" as the characters are. The show is inviting audience participation (as seen in this thread). My wife states that the show isn't long enough and that it's over too quickly. Mission accomplished. DeanS 10-14-04, 02:59 PM For those frustrated with the slow unfolding of events, LOST is nothing compared to HBO's Carnivale! But there is a "fine line" between being held in suspense and coming back for more and more and more...until you lose interest. This is the problem Carnivale is now having to overcome (initially viewers were intrigued by the mystery but many have stopped watching because the writers were not revealing enough soon enough). LOST may share the same fate....let's hope not. I like LOST and so do many others. It's the number one topic in the office on Thursday mornings!! fhall1 10-14-04, 03:14 PM Let's just hope the writers don't rip off Dallas and in the last episode reveal it was all someone's dream...that was the worst way to tie up loose ends in the history of TV. I didn't watch last night's show until tonight, and so just now got caught up to speed in this thread, didn't want any spoilers first! ;) Man, what is in store next! Lots of great speculation going on. Locke's miracle explains a lot about his behavior on the island, such as how he seemed to be reveling in the rainstorm (and life in general) in week one. One thing that struck me, however, is in the first episode he is seen on the plane sitting directly behind Rose, who was next to Jack. If he was wheelchair bound before the crash, he most likely would not be in a regular seat like that, but rather in the front of the section where there is more room for handicapped people and it is easier to get into and out of. Could just be an oversight by the producers, but interesting nonetheless. Also, what WAS he doing with a suitcase full of knives? So far, I think there has only been two characters shown "coming to" immediately after the crash, Jack and Locke. I think there is something rather strange about the way that is depicted, kind of like a re-awakening, maybe it's just me. Bill Shakespeare 10-15-04, 02:06 AM I didn't notice a widescreen TV (RPTV, plasma or FPTV) in Locke's apartment. He used his salary wisely on Adventure Trips and phone companions. They are not in the bulkhead very often, if at all. That's a "premium" seat on American, for example. There are many seats that are "handicapped rated". Anyway, this show is great so far. JJ Abrams is terrific at giving us enough to move the story and leaving us in enough suspense. I actually started watching the ep, went out for food and as I was walking back said, "Oh my! Locke couldn't walk and that's his miracle. Didn't make it any less exciting to actually see that revelaed. That's what a great show does. He noticed his toes moving when he was half unconscious so he realized his legs were back. Then in the jungle when he was knocked over he kept looking at his legs. Understand that I didn't get a chance to talk to this guy about the show, but was told that he played a small part and dies in one of the next episodes. I don't know about you, but I wanted to kill Locke's boss... He was totally demeaning to him. Also, it seems clear that Locke has some issues. Could just be an oversight by the producers, but interesting nonetheless. Absolutely not. Passengers in wheelchairs are placed in regualr seats if at all humanly possible. There is no "Wheel Chair" section. In fact passengers with physical disabilities are actually seated FURTHEST from the exits on purpose - in an emergency exit situation, the lives of the many take precident of those of the few. The airlines want to be able to get as many people off the plane as quickly as possible, and having a wheel-chair bound person in the way of the exit could compromise that. As cold as that sounds, that's the thinking. Passengers with wheelchairs are load first because once other passengers are on the plane, there might not be room to maneuver the wheelchair. So, that (along with the fact some people who just can't walk long distances are taken on and off in wheelchairs) would explain the reason no one saw his condition. This option was short lived - and never available for the 6000 or other Dish receivers. But I believe dish has gone to 100% 8PSK encoding for its HD programming - something the 5000 does not support. So in effect, Dish's HD-recording 'loophole' is now closed. Do you have any insight (spoilers?) based on what they have said? They are really speaking Korean, not fake Korean that Kim Jong Il speaks on "Team America". :p However, Jin (Daniel Dae Kim) has a heavy American accent for a Korean guy who do not seem to understand/speak English. Sun (Yunjin Kim) speaks perfect Korean (she has been in several Korean movies), and I know that she, the actor, can speak English fluently because she went to college in the States. As for any "insight"... Not really. The only thing I've caught is that even though Jin seems to be very strict with Sun at times, he did say "Honey, I love you" to which Sun answered with a forced smile. Hong. He may have been padded a bit, but he's definately overweight. MrMike6by9 10-16-04, 10:01 AM Originally posted by NetworkTV I don't know - he has a chubby face. Didn't I read in an earlier post that the first season will progress very slower, no more than a day or a few per episode? I believe I heard that Tom Hanks gained weight so he could lose it during the filming of "Cast Away" to make it seem more realistic that he had been stranded on an island. There are many people having this issue. Many in Memphis, among other cities. Go to the Tivo forum and do a search for OTA stuttering. We all are watching ABC when it happens. Probably, the practice was first observed I believe in the south-central section of Los Angeles sometime during the late 80's or early 90's as a constant reminder of a fallen comrade whose life was lost due to the strife between rival factions of gang members. Pretty morbid I guess, but, microcosms of society often develop their own peculiar customs. Jim Hounsfield 10-17-04, 07:30 PM Did anyone recognize that electronic device sitting next to Locke's bed -- the one that he turned off while he was talking to Helen? I'm not certain, but it could have been an electrical muscle stimulator. That could partially explain why his muscles haven't totally atrophied over the past 4 years. Additionally -- and this is admittedly far-fetched -- but some paraplegics and spinal cord injury patients, have regained some of their functional ability by having electrodes surgically implanted in their limbs. They then wear devices that send radio-frequency signals to the electrodes which trigger muscle contraction in a coordinated fashion. Maybe there is something on the island that is generating electromagnetic fields, and perhaps allowing (or controlling) Locke's movements? Yes, I know it's a stretch :p. Here's an even bigger stretch: Maybe Jack, the spine surgeon, had something to do with Locke's condition? You'd think they would recognize each other, but maybe it happened during Jack's residency/fellowship. It wouldn't be uncommon for another resident, fellow, or staff, to have been the patient's primary contact on the surgical team, and Jack could have just been brought into the case as an assist... I'm betting that the editors saw the truck in post-production and editted the scene so that it never fully enters the frame. It probably wasn't worth the expense or trouble of reshooting the scene. I only brought it up to illustrate the attention to detail that the producers of this show display.
