Paul Unless they were converted. deeann 12-03-05, 06:18 PM From gakon:One word, girls: VISINE! Michelle's eye are that red because she's umm...... secretly been casted for a flashback sequence in the next installment of Resident Evil... yeah! And it's been a while since RE1 so she had to method practice the "look", yep, and Cynthia was just... umm...uhhhh.... helping? Yeah, that should work. DeathOpie 12-03-05, 06:51 PM I say our party girl Libby could be the mole. I'm alerting Anderson Cooper to see what he thinks. dlipetz 12-03-05, 08:37 PM When Sawyer told Jack that he "loves her", was he talking as Sawyer about Kate, or was he talking as Kate's Dad (the real one) about Kate? optivity 12-03-05, 10:35 PM From gakon: Michelle's eye are that red because she's umm...... secretly been casted for a flashback sequence in the next installment of Resident Evil... yeah! And it's been a while since RE1 so she had to method practice the "look", yep, and Cynthia was just... umm...uhhhh.... helping? The Blue Crush star previously pleaded no contest to three misdemeanors--a hit and run, driving with a suspended license and driving under the influence--stemming from two different incidents that occurred in Los Angeles back in 2003. She was sentenced to 48 hours in jail, community service and treatment in a 30-day alcohol program, as well as three years of probation. Her earlier legal troubles may come back to haunt Rodriguez in her current case. According to TMZ.com, the Los Angeles City Attorney's office is investigating whether the actress' arrest violated the terms of her probation. If the L.A. City Attorney determines that Rodriguez did, in fact, violate her probation, the office could hold a probation revocation hearing and the actress could face the maximum penalty of six months in jail on each of her previous three charges. http://www.eonline.com/News/Items/0,1,17892,00.html DeathOpie 12-04-05, 07:42 AM Maybe she good get a plea bargain for bunker arrest and then she can enter the numbers every 108 minutes. That would free up a lot of time for the rest of them to forage and what not. trbarry 12-04-05, 09:34 AM It would be a real drag if the magic numbers just turned out to be the code for her ankle bracelet's tether connection to her parole officer. What a plot let down. ;) - Tom sierrabob 12-04-05, 11:35 AM Reading about how Rodriguez punched out her roommate in 2002 reveals what seems obvious: she's just playing herself and not really acting much. Even her mug shot seems in character. I'd like to see a dream sequence where Ana Lucia and Claire change places: AL gets the baby and the Australian accent, while Claire becomes the punching, kicking, pistol wielding arrogant bitch with a Jersey City accent. Remember Hurley's dream sequence during his doom's day machine assignment? This could be equally amusing. It could even be filmed behind bars, if necessary. thatdude90210 12-04-05, 01:18 PM That's a pretty good looking mug shot for Michelle. Those usually aren't very flattering. She should be thankful her shot is almost publicity-quality. :) ftboomer 12-04-05, 02:44 PM Sorry if this has already been mentioned. Go to the Hanso site: http://www.thehansofoundation.org/activeproject.html clicked on the Life-extension project, in the letter, click on the last paragraph, I get a misaligned website (firefox) with a "Submit" box. Any thoughts? rickmccamy 12-04-05, 03:21 PM “From the dawn of our species, Man has been blessed with curiosity. Our most precious gift, without exception, is the desire to know more - to look beyond what is accepted as the truth and to imagine what is possible.” - Alvar Hanso, Address to the U.N. Security Council, 1967 That's what I got to come up. sterno3 12-04-05, 05:51 PM Edited to remove all trace of my potential spoilers..it seemed like old news to many after I figured it out anyways. optivity 12-04-05, 09:07 PM She probably pistol-whipped him. :confused:And dumped him in the trunk... reminiscent of the "pit" she carved out... lucky for Michelle the "Po-Lice" didn't look there... gakon 12-04-05, 09:54 PM That's what I got to come up.This is all spoiler stuff. You can find out how to get past this point on that thread. scowl 12-04-05, 10:50 PM If you re-watch last week's scene when Eko and Locke are watching the repaired video of Marvin Candle, Er, video? there is definitely a difference in the part of the video that they spliced back in. Candle is standing in the same spot, wearing the same clothes, but his hair is longer and greyer than in the original parts of the film. Whether this was intentional or not, I don't know, but why would ABC want to film the scene twice if they knew the writers already knew they were going to use the spliced film? Specifically, look at the sideburn on Candle's right temple. You'll see what I mean. In addition, there is much more shadow on his face during this added film sequence. I looked at this and it seems to be a difference in quality between the original film and the section that they spliced in. The part they added has deeper contrast, is less faded and has fewer scratches and less wear. This is intentional since the original had been run through that projector who knows how many times while the removed section had been sitting in a dark cold spot for who knows how long. tluxon 12-05-05, 06:57 PM So if AL gets written off the island out of necessity, who will be the one to do her in now that Sayid probably doesn't want to do her any favors? optivity 12-05-05, 08:49 PM Well, there aren't enough black female actors to fill the demographic and I hear that Gabrielle Union is available: http://mysite.verizon.net/vzequg9f/GabrielleUnionvv88_05_1024.jpg scanpa 12-05-05, 09:03 PM :) UriRx98 12-05-05, 11:31 PM Sounds good to me, i have loved her since Bring it on, and all her other movies. wg rezzy 12-07-05, 09:51 PM Rushing home for tonight's ep (dang, a repeat. I forgot) I noticed a convenience store sign that advertised a "Lost"...drink. Anyone already mention this? It didn't appear to have any connection to the show. UriRx98 12-07-05, 10:13 PM Well it was a repeat but atleast we all get to recall how Hurley became who he was, when he ate 8 pieces of chicken at work, then quit, saw his boss in a chicken suit, and Chen speakin ENglish, sayin Everything is going to change, which it did, and O, was that a dead walker, or was it Shannon before getting capped in the stomach. I wish they would show some epis from season 1 in this break, some of the relavent epis, but i guess thats why they have blockbuster or Netflix, so you can rent and catch up on stuff you missed. wg lexluthor 12-07-05, 11:07 PM but i guess thats why they have blockbuster or Netflix, so you can rent and catch up on stuff you missed. wg Oh, and that's what I thought ********** was for ;) I was watching the billboard awards last night and Naveen Andrews was on at the end. I never heard him speak out of character before. Was pretty funny to hear him talking in his native english accent. bitterfly 12-08-05, 02:53 AM Hahaha yeah there are commercials on over here and I've seen him on a few. You thought wrong. RadYOacTve 12-15-05, 12:12 AM I watched the replay tonight with the flashback of when Jin and Sun first met along the canal. The scene was suppose to be in Korea but if you look at the cars behind Jin as he is walking away from the street, the cars were all US models, not the small European/Asian market cars. Most noticeable was a Navigator/Expedition. Just a bored observation! rdwalt 12-15-05, 12:05 PM It was most likely filmed in Hawaii. archiguy 12-15-05, 02:11 PM This just in from the AP: Michelle Rodriguez, who stars on ABC's "Lost," has settled two traffic cases as she awaits a court hearing on a drunken driving charge - her fourth alleged traffic violation since she joined the cast this season. Rodriguez, who plays police officer Ana Lucia on the TV adventure-drama, was fined $357 for a speeding violation Tuesday after her lawyer entered a no-contest plea on her behalf. She was cited for driving 83 mph in a 55 mph zone on Oahu on Nov. 1. The 27-year-old actress also paid a $300 fine for an earlier traffic offense on the island. She was cited for driving 90 mph in a 35 mph zone on Oct. 20. Previously, Rodriguez was fined $197 for going 80 mph in a 50 mph zone on Aug. 24. Rodriguez and "Lost" co-star Cynthia Watros are scheduled to appear Dec. 29 in Kaneohe District Court on alleged drunk driving charges. They were driving separate cars when they were arrested Dec. 1 within 15 minutes of each other in Kailua. In June 2004, Rodriguez pleaded no contest in Los Angeles to three traffic violations - hit and run, drunken driving and driving with a suspended license. She completed a three-month alcohol program and is now serving a three-year probation term. So, let's count 'em up: Four violations in Hawaii in just the last few months since she joined the cast, plus three more last year in LA, plus a three month "alcohol rehab program" (looks like that worked out real well - what a joke those things are). Who knows how many more prior to that. Looks like "Ana Lucia made a mistake" - which would be getting a driver's license! :p morgan1112 12-15-05, 02:28 PM man, they are soooo going to kill her off. I think we might have our next victim of the 'security system'No kidding. If ever there were a show where it's not hard to write a character out, it's this one. They literally can ..simply disappear. keenan 12-15-05, 02:55 PM Looks like "Ana Lucia made a mistake" - which would be getting a driver's license! :p How in the hell could she even have one anymore!?!? After the first 3-4 you'd think she'd have the brains to get a driver, I doubt money for one would be an issue. I would hate to see this woman's career go down the toilet due to alcohol addiction. R11 12-15-05, 03:05 PM 90 in a 35? That girl's downright dangerous :D ron smartass1235 12-15-05, 03:20 PM doesn't anyone remember she was in the original fast & furious? maybe she is auditioning for the third one. scowl 12-15-05, 03:25 PM 90 in a 35? That girl's downright dangerous :D Maybe her speedometer was miscalibrated. Those things can trick out on you, especially when you're drunk. rdwalt 12-15-05, 03:47 PM Here's more from E!online Besides Rodriguez and Watros, five other members of the cast have been pulled over by police and issued citations--four of them for speeding, according to the Honolulu Star Bulletin. Josh Holloway (Sawyer) was pulled over Sept. 21 and ticketed for allegedly going 53 mph in a 35 mph zone. Dominic Monaghan (Charlie) was pulled over on March 10 and cited for allegedly going 78 mph in a 55 mph zone and driving without a license. He was also stopped Aug. 12, 2004, for allegedly going 68 mph in a 45 mph zone. Naveen Andrews (Sayid) was pulled over March 9 and cited for allegedly going 70 mph in a 35 mph zone on March 9, and again on Oct. 15. for going 42 mph in a 25 mph zone. Ian Somerhalder (Boone) was pulled over March 2 for allegedly going 74 mph in a 45 mph zone. Harold Perrineau Jr. (Michael) was pulled over and ticketed Oct. 9 for having no motor vehicle insurance and no safety check. (The actor has since provided the court with proof of his insurance and the matter has been dismissed.) It's a good thing there aren't more cars on mystery island--with this gang of castaways behind the wheel, the Others might not seem so scary. efeatherston 12-15-05, 04:43 PM Maybe Anna and Libby won't be around for a long time after all. I guess the nightlife in Hawaii is too much of a temptation. http://apnews.excite.com/article/20051202/D8E849C04.html My kids (who are also big lost fans) told me about a great bit they saw on The Soup (a show on the E! Channel) that talked about this arrest. The host reported the arrest and said...'The police had them do a breathalyzer and they blew 4...8...15...23... So, still being on probation from her last DWI, if she is convicted of this one she will be in jail for the remainder of her original sentence in Ca. Plus she could do jail time for a second offense in less than 2 years after going to rehab. The writers might not have a choice in this one. The good news is the "Surreal Life" is always looking for x-con celebrities. archiguy 12-15-05, 05:30 PM I suspect ABC will somehow arrange to get her jail time dismissed or "suspended" (money talks in the U.S. judicial system), but she's still a liability from a PR standpoint. The writers are probably already working on how to write her out of the show. Her career may not recover from this; it's not like she has Robert Downing Jr.-type talent (for which there are endless "second chances"). R11 12-15-05, 05:37 PM Hmmm, 6/04 plus 3 years is 6/07. Matt_Stevens 12-15-05, 08:39 PM Yeah, I'd have to ask friends for help, go online, that sort of thing. A real pain in the @ss. Have they repeated any of the second season episodes yet? I could always try and catch the repeats as they go if I can start from 2.1. keenan 12-15-05, 08:57 PM Yes they have, I think, but there wasn't any rhyme or reason to which episode it was or will be as far as I can tell. I would hate to see this woman's career go down the toilet due to alcohol addiction. They never really learn I don't think. This reminds me of Yancy Butler & Kim Delaney. It was speculated that Witchblade was canceled because of her drinking problems. If I remember right they had a hard time finishing the second season because she was in rehab or something like that. Delaney was fired from CSI Miami for showing up to to work late because of her drinking problem. Her problem is widely known. It was projected at 12 fps so that also indicates a low quality 8mm print. The sprockets are rectangular instead of square so that means it's old 8mm instead of Super 8. That all makes sense for a cheap home made film. But wait! The image area is all wrong. The horizontal image area of 8mm is only 2.5 times the sprocket width. This is more like five times the width. And no 8mm format that I know of has an optical soundtrack much less a stereo optical soundtrack. The sound was always a mono magnetic track on very edge of the film next to the sprockets. When Locke held it up, it looked wide enough to be 16mm, but regular 16mm has sprockets on both sides of the film. Now Super 16 only has one set of sprockets but that didn't come out until the 80's and it also doesn't have an optical soundtrack. I don't think anything can project Super 16. OK, so obviously this is just a prop made out of some Super 16 film. Shoot, I thought I was onto something here. :) Wait! Don't dismiss it yet. There has to be a reason why they would mock up something like that. Consider this: 1) Why would anyone making a training film of a guy talking go out of their way to pay extra (not to mention obtain and possibly modify special projectors) and use special stereo audio track film? Granted, there is music there, but it was intended to play using the internal projector speaker, so stereo would have made no difference. Is the film perhaps designed to play only on those special projectors (for that matter, where is the projector or any other of the daily equipment from the other bunker - books, kitchen/bath fixtures, the washer and dryer - they aren't consumable items like food)? On the other hand, maybe the projector isn't so special. Perhaps we haven't heard the other audio track at all. 2) Why would a studio television production (with the resources to not only know what proper film format would apply, but get there hands on the real stuff - much of which is still made in small quantities) bother to create a special film stock for a prop? It would be so much easier to just order some Super 8 or 16mm stock from Kodak than make your own. I think the reason they used 16mm was to make the dramatic zoom into the frames of film easier. 8mm film is only a little more than 1/4" wide. http://www.movies-2-dvd.com/images/Film_Leader.jpg Now why they used Super 16 instead of regular 16mm, I don't know. There's more space for the image and might have looked better on TV since they had more room for those "old fashioned" optical soundtracks. It's also more widely used in TV production and easier to get. cocoon 01-01-06, 04:20 PM If it hasn't been posted already(which i'm sure it has)...a lost theory that, imo, is way too complicated for joe blow to understand http://www.4815162342.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3377 Thanks for the link. I wasn't going to go here but as long as you brought up some of the technical aspects of the training film, I'll add my 2 cents. It always bothered me that the film was produced in "MTV" style - the quick in and out of various viewpoints from several cameras. Seems that would have been a tedious editing/splicing chore if shot on 8 or 16mm film. And for what? A training and informational production? I think the Lost crew got a bit out of context with this film. Of course, we should only be paying attention to the messages of the film and not pick it apart for trivialities of production. ;) scowl 01-02-06, 02:27 PM It always bothered me that the film was produced in "MTV" style - the quick in and out of various viewpoints from several cameras. Seems that would have been a tedious editing/splicing chore if shot on 8 or 16mm film. And for what? A training and informational production? Well, let's look at that. It starts with music that sounds like someone playing with a Minimoog and a drum machine from a cocktail lounge. The first cut to a close up looks professional. The film doesn't cut to the college campus scenes, it fades to it -- that indicates either professional editing or at least knowing how to do an in-camera transition. The panning in the classroom is amateur (left, right, left, right). The zoom to the Danish guy high up in the window in the tall building (who doesn't move, like he's a just a picture) had to have been done with a pretty expensive lens. The film ends with more cuts to close ups at dramatic points in the dialog and no more fades between the cuts. I wouldn't call any of this "MTV style" editing. It looks less professional than promotional commercial films made from the 50's. Remember, this organization dug a huge cavern into a remote island, finished it with tons of concrete, filled it with what was then expensive computer equipment and has kept it manned apparently for decades. I took a film class in high school (early/mid 80's) and we used a book from the early 70's. It covered multiple camera setups, both setting them up as well as effective use of multiple camera angles in the editing process. So, I think your assessment of the technical and/or artistic abilities of 70's filmmakers (even student filmmakers) is way off base. Joseph 01-02-06, 05:47 PM A new episode can't come soon enough - the thread has once again reached critical mass in terms of a dearth of meaningful subject matter. ;) CPanther95 01-02-06, 06:04 PM The film was from 1980. brendank 01-02-06, 10:01 PM has anybody saved these episodes to hard drives yet if yes wouldnt mind getting hold of them as lost is yet to air over here in Ireland ridgefamus 01-02-06, 11:47 PM ... is way off base. Okey dokey. :D Guess I was coming from the premise that the Dharma message was probably not produced by them to be artistically panned. Criminy, it's a training film! I also did not contend it was beyond technical abilities in the 70s (or 1980, as CPanther says) to produce what we have seen. Just odd for such techniques to be used for the purpose served. And that, IMO, the techies responsible for putting the film together for the show (LOST), grew up in the MTV generation. That's all. rickmccamy 01-03-06, 12:49 AM And they replaced (or added) the washer and dryer but left the aging computer. Parsimonious use of funds by this well-financed operation. . Criminy, it's a training film! It's not really much of a training film. The instructions it gives could have been written on one sheet of paper and taped above the monitor. Training films always review the most important information at the end of the film, usually showing a numbered list of steps or procedures so people can write them down. The main goal of the film is to give spottty background information on the project and to give the trainee some vague sense of its importance and the power of the organization behind it (note the spooky zoom of the mysterious unmoving man in the window). You would think the people in the bunker would have already known these things unless they had been tricked (this hints that it's an unethical psychological experiment). It also implies that there will be some reward in participating. This wouldn't have been effective if the film had looked amateurish. optivity 01-10-06, 11:48 AM Is there going to be a new episode of Lost tomorrow? R11 01-10-06, 11:54 AM Yes there is. Charlie didn't know about the heroin in the Mary statues. I like where they're going with this, especially the stash of Marys in the very end, but the rewrite definitely feels like a cheat. I loved the smoke. We still don't know what to make of it (did the smoke spare him because he was a good person, or did it spare him because he faced his fears and didn't flee?). Perhaps they did and he had to disconnect... telemike 01-12-06, 06:51 AM http://thehansofoundation.org/dharma.html MrMike6by9 01-12-06, 08:11 AM Worst episode ever. I mean Hurley only had one line, and it wasn't even funny! :)Hehehe On the way into work this AM, I heard a local station promo an interview with Jorge for later in the show. MrMike6by9 01-12-06, 08:25 AM I got the impression that Eko wore the cross simply as jewelry in the backstory and then put it on at the end as a symbol of carrying on his brother's work. Other than that, I guess I didn't take it that he was any more religious than anybody else who could recite Psalm 23. Great Episode!!!I had a very different interpretation. I viewed the young Eko as sacrificing himself to save the other children who were being recruited to become killer trainees. I felt he worn the cross for legitimate reasons but "lost his soul" when he performed the "initiation" killing. YMMV Jediphish 01-12-06, 08:27 AM And the last image, which no one's mentioned, is a crucified image of Jesus.... *actually someone a few posts above noticed that image #12 hadn't been listed* Yeah, I went back and checked and the crucifix is definitely there - I just didn't watch the scene using step-pause long enough. Glad others caught it. I'll add it to my original post. EricRobins 01-12-06, 08:38 AM Anyone try clicking on the picture of Alvaro Hanso recently? Who is MOLE??? And whats up with the busted images, particularly in the "Life Extension Project" link? |
