Reading about how Rodriguez punched out her roommate in 2002 reveals what seems obvious: she's just playing herself and not really acting much. Even her mug shot seems in character.

I'd like to see a dream sequence where Ana Lucia and Claire change places: AL gets the baby and the Australian accent, while Claire becomes the punching, kicking, pistol wielding arrogant bitch with a Jersey City accent.

there is definitely a difference in the part of the video that they spliced back in. Candle is standing in the same spot, wearing the same clothes, but his hair is longer and greyer than in the original parts of the film. Whether this was intentional or not, I don't know, but why would ABC want to film the scene twice if they knew the writers already knew they were going to use the spliced film?

Specifically, look at the sideburn on Candle's right temple. You'll see what I mean. In addition, there is much more shadow on his face during this added film sequence.
I looked at this and it seems to be a difference in quality between the original film and the section that they spliced in. The part they added has deeper contrast, is less faded and has fewer scratches and less wear. This is intentional since the original had been run through that projector who knows how many times while the removed section had been sitting in a dark cold spot for who knows how long.

So if AL gets written off the island out of necessity, who will be the one to do her in now that Sayid probably doesn't want to do her any favors?

Rushing home for tonight's ep (dang, a repeat. I forgot) I noticed a convenience store sign that advertised a "Lost"...drink. Anyone already mention this? It didn't appear to have any connection to the show.

Well it was a repeat but atleast we all get to recall how Hurley became who he was, when he ate 8 pieces of chicken at work, then quit, saw his boss in a chicken suit, and Chen speakin ENglish, sayin Everything is going to change, which it did, and O, was that a dead walker, or was it Shannon before getting capped in the stomach. I wish they would show some epis from season 1 in this break, some of the relavent epis, but i guess thats why they have blockbuster or Netflix, so you can rent and catch up on stuff you missed.

I watched the replay tonight with the flashback of when Jin and Sun first met along the canal. The scene was suppose to be in Korea but if you look at the cars behind Jin as he is walking away from the street, the cars were all US models, not the small European/Asian market cars. Most noticeable was a Navigator/Expedition.

You're missing 10 eps from Season 2, so you are a little less than halfway through the season, not an insurmountable chore to find them, but not insignificant either, there are ways, legal and otherwise I'm sure...HD quality would no doubt be more difficult to obtain.

It was speculated that Witchblade was canceled because of her drinking problems. If I remember right they had a hard time finishing the second season because she was in rehab or something like that.

Delaney was fired from CSI Miami for showing up to to work late because of her drinking problem. Her problem is widely known.

Season 2 DVD set should be released just before Season 3 starts...you may have to do a marathon viewing session the week before, but generally the previous season comes out in time to hype the return of the show for a new season.

Even if it did come out after the start, I doubt it would be more than a few weeks and you could DVR and store the first couple of weeks of the new season.

I don't think it's a factor of cuteness. Kate isn't annoying, and her past is intriguing. Anna Lucia is a shallow, poorly conceived character (at least to this point), and Michele's acting skills are sorely lacking. Interesting when you think that she had a film career before this series, where as Evangeline only had a couple commercial spots.

How has this season compared to the first? I am thinking not so good after reading many comments. I watched Season 1 on DVD earlier this month and loved it and will hopefully catch up on Season 2 in the next few weeks.

Wait! Don't dismiss it yet. There has to be a reason why they would mock up something like that. Consider this:

1) Why would anyone making a training film of a guy talking go out of their way to pay extra (not to mention obtain and possibly modify special projectors) and use special stereo audio track film? Granted, there is music there, but it was intended to play using the internal projector speaker, so stereo would have made no difference. Is the film perhaps designed to play only on those special projectors (for that matter, where is the projector or any other of the daily equipment from the other bunker - books, kitchen/bath fixtures, the washer and dryer - they aren't consumable items like food)? On the other hand, maybe the projector isn't so special. Perhaps we haven't heard the other audio track at all.

2) Why would a studio television production (with the resources to not only know what proper film format would apply, but get there hands on the real stuff - much of which is still made in small quantities) bother to create a special film stock for a prop? It would be so much easier to just order some Super 8 or 16mm stock from Kodak than make your own.

Many of us have had trouble understanding how they plane could crash, as depicted, with any survivors. I think the reason they used 16mm was to make the dramatic zoom into the frames of film easier. 8mm film is only a little more than 1/4" wide.

Now why they used Super 16 instead of regular 16mm, I don't know. There's more space for the image and might have looked better on TV since they had more room for those "old fashioned" optical soundtracks. It's also more widely used in TV production and easier to get.

But that was because the record companies figured people would buy as many of these new expensive LP's as they were buying cheap singles so artists were under pressure to release LP's as quickly as possible as long as they had two decent songs on them. That's why there were so many live records and goofy Christmas albums. Not many could crank out three or four quality LP's every year.

I wasn't going to go here but as long as you brought up some of the technical aspects of the training film, I'll add my 2 cents.

It always bothered me that the film was produced in "MTV" style - the quick in and out of various viewpoints from several cameras. Seems that would have been a tedious editing/splicing chore if shot on 8 or 16mm film. And for what? A training and informational production? I think the Lost crew got a bit out of context with this film. Of course, we should only be paying attention to the messages of the film and not pick it apart for trivialities of production. ;)

Well, let's look at that. It starts with music that sounds like someone playing with a Minimoog and a drum machine from a cocktail lounge. The first cut to a close up looks professional. The film doesn't cut to the college campus scenes, it fades to it -- that indicates either professional editing or at least knowing how to do an in-camera transition. The panning in the classroom is amateur (left, right, left, right). The zoom to the Danish guy high up in the window in the tall building (who doesn't move, like he's a just a picture) had to have been done with a pretty expensive lens. The film ends with more cuts to close ups at dramatic points in the dialog and no more fades between the cuts. I wouldn't call any of this "MTV style" editing. It looks less professional than promotional commercial films made from the 50's.

Remember, this organization dug a huge cavern into a remote island, finished it with tons of concrete, filled it with what was then expensive computer equipment and has kept it manned apparently for decades. We're supposed to think that this is a well-financed operation. Surely they could have paid a film student to produce a film at this level of quality.

I took a film class in high school (early/mid 80's) and we used a book from the early 70's. It covered multiple camera setups, both setting them up as well as effective use of multiple camera angles in the editing process. So, I think your assessment of the technical and/or artistic abilities of 70's filmmakers (even student filmmakers) is way off base.

A new episode can't come soon enough - the thread has once again reached critical mass in terms of a dearth of meaningful subject matter. ;)

Spent any time in the South Pacific? You want to be able to wash your clothes, phew, they must have been getting ripe before they found the bunker. How many sets of khakis could Rose wash by hand each day?

That "aging computer" has lasted fine for 25 years (no burn-in even) and processing power isn't an issue. Replace it, and you risk some IT guy substituting a Windows based machine that locks up every other 108 minute cycle. :)

But think of the pretty BSOD color MS Windows can render... :D

Besides... if they "upgrade" from the current platform... they may lose the ability to play "Pong!" :D

It's not really much of a training film. The instructions it gives could have been written on one sheet of paper and taped above the monitor. Training films always review the most important information at the end of the film, usually showing a numbered list of steps or procedures so people can write them down.

The main goal of the film is to give spottty background information on the project and to give the trainee some vague sense of its importance and the power of the organization behind it (note the spooky zoom of the mysterious unmoving man in the window). You would think the people in the bunker would have already known these things unless they had been tricked (this hints that it's an unethical psychological experiment). It also implies that there will be some reward in participating. This wouldn't have been effective if the film had looked amateurish.

Anyone else here listening to the Official ABC Lost podcast? I've listened to the last 3 or 4 and they're pretty good. It's usually hosted by Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof and has some pretty funny banter back and forth between those two. The past episode they answered fan questions and got called out on some inconsistencies.

I'd recommend it to anyone here who's interested. It adds to my anticipation while informing me on some of the back story & preparation.

Dammit I forgot to set my new DVR to record. I've been rebuilding my season record list but forgot Lost. I ran in as soon as I read this thread, has it all been mostly a recap of season 1 so far?

Yes, but 10 minutes in and there already at the hatch so a quick recap. There was footage I've never seen of them all meeting in the terminal and showing the back of the plan ripping off

Three years ago when I didn't have a DVR this type of episode would have been very welcome because even though I timeshifted with 2 VCRs, I could never record as good as an SP on Tivo does.

Sometimes I think I forget that everyone doesn't have an HD DVR - how sad for those people.

How bad will the ratings for this new show be going up against The Office/My Name is Earl, CSI: Las Vegas, and The O.C. ? Why don't they just go ahead and cancel it now.

I got the impression that the black smoke was reading Mr. Eko's mind. Perhaps taking judge of whether or not he was a "good person". I thought I saw three images flash by in the smoke, one of them definately being a cross that looked like his brother's. Anyone DVR it and wanna tell us the other images?

Worst episode everHave to disagree. Eko is a bad mofo---'watch yo mouth!'. Tonight's ep was pretty good, IMO. The one thing I'm missing is; how did Eko wind up on the very same island his brother's plane crashed onto? The only thing he could have descended from is an airplane.

I have a DVR and as soon as the scene was over had to rewind to look at it. Going in slo-mo, I saw at least the following images:

His brother's church
The man he killed as a boy, kneeling on the ground
His brother
Some man (or woman) I didn't recognize who was older
A younger woman in a patterned dress that I also didn't know
Eko cradling someone (his brother?)
The figure of Christ on the Cross was the last one I saw

There are more, but I can't remember all of them.
It's like it was judging his actions or past life.

I thought tonite's was one of the best episodes of this season, things seemed to move at about the right pace (for me), and the back story kept my interest (some of the other backstories have come across as too much filler for the information offered; but not this one).

Looking forward to next week.

I can't believe no one has mentioned the following:

They rewrote history when Charlie and Sayid went to the plane! Charlie didn't know about the heroin in the Mary statues. I like where they're going with this, especially the stash of Marys in the very end, but the rewrite definitely feels like a cheat.

I loved the smoke. We still don't know what to make of it (did the smoke spare him because he was a good person, or did it spare him because he faced his fears and didn't flee?).

Charlie knew about the heroin, he saw a statue that was broken open. He grabbed an intact one knowing what was in there. Apparently, he went back or managed to grab a lot more that we didn't know about. Very interesting how his demons are shown rising up just when we thought he was being a straight arrow.

Rats - apparently my memory has warped since last season's finale. Both my wife and I were convinced that Sayid didn't say anything about the heroin, but apparently we were wrong. I think I'll double-check the episode just to be safe. :)

Sayid definitely told Charlie about the heroin. He either threw one on the ground and it broke open or it was already on the ground broken revealing the bags inside.

This is one of the most cleverly written episodes of television I can remember. How they weaved Ekobesi's backstory into the drug runner plane from last season and weave Charlie's drugs and religious background together was just brilliant. This show is definitely raising the bar for episodic television.

I am enjoying the fact that no one in the AVS braintrust previously connected the obviously religous, and somewhat priest like African Eko, with the Nigerian fake priest Drug runners. These are good writers!

These images all last three film frames -- fade in, barely visible, then fade out except for #9 which lasts five frames. I never would have noticed them. Very well done!

But, Michael didn't touch the keyboard while he was talking to Jack, and then when Jack got up at looked at the screen it was blank...

Could the image on the monitor just be appearing to Michael (and not really there) in much the same way Walt is visible to some people? (Dharma remote-viewing research?)

Wow what a awesome episode. I still cannont believe that all those images were in that few seconds of black cloud that we all call the SECURITY System. I am wondering why EKO got sparred, or did IT realize MR EKO was a badassmofo and didnt want to mess with him. I never would have thought he was goin to become a Gurilla mobster type, being that he was soo nice and helpful once people were on the island. THat was deff the best written epi of the season, and a nice way to integrate something from last season into a new epi. THis show is and has always earned high remarks from me. JJ Adams is the bomb, just wish ALIAS was still goin to be around for him to fix it. Whens it comeing back anyone know?

I'm wondering if the Adebesi character might be from the crashed drug plane...I would think they would have to tie that plane back into the story other than just Charlie being a drug addict.

Agreed. I might take it one step further though. His brother said that merely signing a piece of paper wouldn't make Eko a priest.

I wonder if his encounter with the "black smoke whatever" was a way of confirming his "ordination" or his calling, based on the images seen in it.

Good job keenan-I took the 40 days of silence after killing those others as a strict adherence to religous pennance, but I did not see this coming. As for the hat. I am still using it to upgrade HDLite. Feel free to make your own, though.

On the other hand, could whoever that is communicating with Michael (it doesn't have to be Walt) be watching the room?

- The other person seemed to know Michael was there in order to send him the initial message.

- The screen was cleared before Jack looked at it.

Or, there are other possibilities:

- Michael took too long to respond and the other party cleared the screen just in case...

- The other party mentioned "they'll be coming back soon". Perhaps they did and he had to disconnect...

Great Episode!!!I had a very different interpretation. I viewed the young Eko as sacrificing himself to save the other children who were being recruited to become killer trainees. I felt he worn the cross for legitimate reasons but "lost his soul" when he performed the "initiation" killing.

Yeah, I went back and checked and the crucifix is definitely there - I just didn't watch the scene using step-pause long enough. Glad others caught it. I'll add it to my original post.
