Use the templates on Nathan's site & get the DVD covers from sites lile dagonsden.com & a few others out there ... or scan in your DVD covers. If you use my Photoshop template, just drop the DVD artwork into the D-VHS template, then modify it as needed to fit/scale & remove any DVD-related labels/wording. The only Photoshop tools you really need to teach yourself are the 'healing brush', 'rubber stamp' & of course cropping/rotating/scaling. Lots of Photoshop tutorials on the Web. I won't lie & say it isn't a good deal of effort to make decent covers, but it's actually kinda fun.

I don't have Photoshop, I've always just used paint, but that doesn't seem to work out for converting DVD to Vhs. Works fine for CD cvers ect.

FYI, I'm a little behind on updating the site with covers. I'll address that this evening. However, I don't recall anyone sending me the covers listed in the last few posts.

Yep, I discovered that on my system as well when I tried to copy "Shrek 2" for a friend. I guess it had a "copy once" flag. I thought providers like HBO put the flag, but it appears my cable provider is doing it? I don't know. I do know someone who's able to make copies of his movies using two D-VHS decks.

HBO has "Scent of a Woman" on 9/4, so I'll be taping that & making a D-VHS cover, which I'll send to Nathan.

I am working on a poster for my room to have logos of all my equipment. I know it is not "cover" related, but I thought someone here may have an EPS or large JPG of the D-Theater logo. I just want to put the logo on a poster I make.

With Photoshop, you can use the 'magic wand' tool to grab the D-VHS shape, then blow that up to any size you want, then fill-in with black using 'paint can' tool.

I already sent him an EPS of that Brajesh. Anybody have the D-theater logo eps? I used to have it, but my file is no longer working. I dont remember where I DL it from.

Yeah, you tend to learn fast as you use the software. I am down to 7 minutes on some of them. They keep getting better and better as I learn PS. I haven't yet done Dodgeball and Punisher so why don't you upload them to Nathan? It would save me some time so I won't have to do them myself.

7 mintues? wow! It takes me a while to type set all the production credits, find industry review pull quotes. test in different types printers. Now it may take me 7 minutes on a TV show volume as the majority of the work is done.

Guys, if you have a ton of covers to upload, drop me an email and I'll give you ftp access. This will keep everyone's email quotas in check. :)

I'm currently trying to make "The Nick Hornby Collection" that have the slightly modified US covers of the books. fever pitch(1997), High Fidelity, about a boy, Fever Pitch(2005), A Long way Down(2007). (Yes, I'm making a cover for something that dont even have a finished screenplay yet! )

As well as trying to make a Barry Levinson's "The Baltimore Trilogy" Avalon, Diner, Liberty Heights and Tin men.

I just found this thread and I must say WOW! Thank you to all of you who made these covers and were willing to share them.

Here is a cover I worked on for last night's showing of Scarface on UHD. It might need a little modification of the dolby digital specs as I was working from a DVD cover.

Yeah, I loved doing the EVENT HORIZON cover. It was a pain, but the results were great. I also gave Nathan a BLADE RUNNER cover guys. Too much stuff to list here. Just go and have a looksy.

A lot of times I get the DVD and take a mess of screenshots to make a cover. Sometimes much easier and faster than using a TS file. But of course less res. So, I go back to the TS file for a higer res image, but for images on the back cover DVD res is often enough. The cover I just posted is an example. I thought all the promo artwork for the movies sucked. Mine not much of an improvement, but I like it better. If you go this route, it's often good if you watch the trailers for images/scenes that might work well for a cover.

I normally use covers and inserts from the DVD myself. But for the titles mentioned above I have no DVD counterparts.

Amadeus is listed with the E's on the coverart page.

Ooops, I used Amadeus as a placeholder for each new cover and forgot to axe the one in the E's.

Grrr, so I have a new printer (Dell's 924 is a black ink glutton, BTW) and messed up the margins / page setup. Can someone give me the margins and page setup items needed for printing covers on landscape 8.5x11 paper. I can't for the life of me get Contact or Shrek 2 to print properly-- they're either too tall or too short.

EDIT : I figured it out. The page setup for my Dell 924 requires me to set the top margin to .5" and 0" for all others. The page URL prints out by default, but it's outside of the print area, so no worries.

As far as scanning D-Theater or commercially available D-VHS covers, I'd rather not host those.

In the past few days I have sent him Star Trek 1 & 2, Hellraiser, Network, Return of the King (matches the other LOTR covers I sent way back when), 1492, Above the Law & Hard to Kill, Sin City, Collateral, and Before Sunset.

You will notice that most of my covers are far different from their DVD counterparts. I only use DVD artwork when absolutely necessary. I always try to find high quality scans and art elsewhere to make my covers really different.

I am still searching for DUNE material. :(

Well since my font is messed up I just ended up cutting and pasting the later logo for wimbledon. so it's a bit rough. I was going to use the original logo as used in the trailers, but have been having weird font problems. Here was my recreated original logo.

I'm working on Garden State and Bottle Rocket they are just about done. Anyone have decent one for Rushmore?

Just sent THIEF (with James Caan) and BODY DOUBLE (classic DePalma).

Given that I have taken more than contributed, I have been trying to learn how to make some of these covers myself so that I can share as well. The GeorgiaHDTV tutorial is helpful, but I am using a Roxio Photosuite 5 program which is a little different than the Adobe Program. I obviously need more practice because none seem to look as professional as the ones shared here. In the meantime, has anyone scanned the "Paycheck" cover or made one for "National Treasure?"

Hello everyone,

I'm curious if any of you have found where to buy the rounded type of vhs boxes, similar to D-Theater cases? I did manage to order some black cases from www.polylinecorp.com but they ran out. They do still have white cases in the same shape but I really wanted black. Of course, it's impossible to get the silver/grey cases that are true D-Theater. If anyone knows where to get this type of case please PM (private message) me. Or just post it, I'm sure everyone else on the board would like to know. By the way; I've made a lot of D-VHS covers. Does anyone post them on their website? I've emailed the folks at www.georgiahdtv.com because they have a LOT of them. I never received any response though.

Roger, most of my covers are designed for those polyline capsule boxes. I've ordered a box of black and a box of white last year. I think the white ones look much better than the black IMO. Silver boxes were made special for JVC. Most of the D-VHS covers posted here are also on the georgiahdtv site. Nathan_R who posted above you maintain that site.

Roger, your email probably went into the spam folder by accident. I get a ton of unsolicited crap (not saying your email was such) sent to the website, and most of it is bulk-deleted. All the same, I don't sell or have any extra bullet cases.

Hi all -

Just thought I'd pass on a little find I stumbled across recently at my local Frys.

The TDK SVHS tapes (can't remember what the product number is, but they are mostly white with a blue highlight to them), have stickes saying they are $14.99, are marked on shelf for $7.99, but ring up at the cashier at 90 cents. I've purchased a good number, and probably have worked them out of their supply here in town. They don't seem to put many out at a time, so multiple trips might pay off for you.

I've recorded several movies on these on my Mits DVHS, and all looks good!

Sure do, as new ones are posted, must have about all of them now, not only do I use them for D-VHS covers, from a 16X9 time set-up, some I use as wall paper on some of my computers.

All neat stuff, but understand your position (space), none the less a BIG thanks for your effort with this!

I'm not all that sure if HD Optical will go beyond nitch, as many hope, at least you can record with D-VHS NOW! BTW: I do have a HD DVD A1 in addition to my JVC's :)

MORE HD IS BETTER! :D :D :D

I just got my HDTV today and after having my cable services upgraded very shortly (I hope), I plan to take advantage of these. I have been saving them just in case they are taken down.

what is the total space its taking on your server? how much bandwidth is it using monthly? I could mirror them or host the actual covers and just have you keep the front end.

POWERFUL,
these covers are not for retail (or unreleased retail titles), but for homemade recordings of OTA or other sources of HD onto D-VHS tapes.

OK guys, great work on those DVHS covers. Now take'm all, and convert them to HD-DVD covers and we will be all set :D

How do I access the new covers? I have the link to the saved in "Favorites" but when I tried accessing yesterday, was asked to log-in to access them. I signed up, tried again, and still cannot access them.
