Anything with Teri Hatcher in HD is worth checking out!

Where did you see that it's going to be in "HD" ?? Doh !! ABC's page now has the little "HD" logo on it.... I'm positive it did NOT before.

FWIW, I've asked my wife a few times if "we" plan to watch it..... :) It is tagged in the DVR to record, just in case.

Anyone else looking forward to Desperate Housewives?

Yes, on a regular basis. But don't tell my wife.

As far as programs on in HDTV, see the HDTV Programming Synopsis. ABC does all primetime in HD, except news & reality.

Since I'm too lazy to go over to ABC's site to see for myself, anyone want to tell me the premise of the show? Although it sounds like it might not matter what the premise is ;).

Is it me or are these new shows just bland? I thought it was fun at times but I spent big gaps of time web-browsing or daydreaming. It seemed slow and this is with 50% of the running time dedicated to commercials. Next week, given a choice of this or Criminal Intent or my beloved Adult Swim.....

Yep, A lot of these shows aren't working for me, can't get into. I really don't even like the crime shows, only watch them because they're great for HDTV.

Most of the shows on networks are still targeted towards the baby boomer age group, still hard for me to find a good comedy...

I'm a baby boomer and most of the shows don't seem to be hitting my target, especially the comedies.

This is definitely a show targeting women becasue my wife seemed to really like it. However, there is enough eye candy that I won't mind watching it.

Good PQ, good eye candy, and pretty amusing. Certainly won't be overtaking L&O: CI in my book, but I think I might just record CI and watch this when I can in HD. It's rare that I like chick flicks, myself, but I am intrigued by this. (Yes, I know this is supposed to be a show that appeals to my demographics but it doesn't appeal to me EXCEPT for how zany it is.) If the voice over weren't there, however, it wouldn't quite be that interesting. It seems to combine the normal everyday, (uh, not MY everyday), with the weird and outlandish. I'll check it out next week.

My girlfriend had me TiVo it. We watched it last night and I figured since it was in HD I would go ahead and watch it with her. She thought it was just foolishness, but I actually liked it. I was laughing alot during the show. Now my girlfriend won't watch it nextweek, but I went ahead and set a season pass for me. As long as a show is in HD I'll give it a chance. I won't be watching any new shows in SD anymore, only the old shows I like would I even consider watching in SD. After 3 years with HD I've had almsot enough of SD shows.

I liked the show and I'm a guy who likes the Gilmore Girls. All of the women on the show look decent to me. You have Marcia Cross (Kimberly from Melrose Place), Eva Longoria, Teri Hatcher, Licolete Shreidan and the other mom, I forget her name. The only thing I kept thinking last night while watching this show is how sad the lives of these individuals are. I think the show is a mixture of Knots Landing and some sort of comedy.

The character on the show that I really like is the one played by Marica Cross b/c she shows some of that unpredictable, scary characteristics that made her great on Melrose Place. I'll be watching next week. Oh yeh, memo to Teri Hatcher, Please wear a bra the next time around. Gravity has taken it toll and things cannot be as round and perky as they once were. So please, wear the bra will ya! Thanks.

I thought the show was quite funny...several laugh out loud lines. I originally watched the show to make fun of it and ask dumb questions to drive my wife nuts. But I really enjoyed it. But wow, Nicolette Sheridan looks like she has been ridden hard and put up wet. She was so hot on Knots Landing as Paige Matheson...I miss the young Nicolette. I support the no-bra for Teri Hatcher movement. She looked a bit haggard though, in fact they all did (was this done to make them look desperate?) 'cept for Eva.

I have the 6208 (one tuner HD DVR) which has supplanted my ReplayTV (only because it does HD). But the no dual tuner really plays havoc with Football season and MLB postseason in full swing. How to watch both in HD? Not possible for me right now. :-(

You're not alone. Statistically, viewership of the big networks is on the decline, big time. My best educated guess is this: Right now, the TV industry is evolving to meet super-customized consumer demand, since the capacity to do so (with satellite and digital cable) is there now. People are used to watching whatever and timeshifting it to whenever. People are busy as hell, and they want their favorite shows instead of crap. There's a lot more TV now, and as far as I can tell, there isn't any reason to assume that there's a proportionally larger pool of good writers.

Networks are already in a financial bind, and cable networks obviously let their writers just do whatever the hell they want in a lot of cases, so I think the better writers are reluctant to do network TV for a number of reasons. Not to mention the fact that in the "on-demand" world, networks still try to do business like IBM with their tool-ass 5-year plans that got them eaten alive by Hewlett Packard back in the day. It's a lot like the changing dynamic in the PC market of old -- the newer, younger, more flexible and experimental forces in the market are changing with the consumer, and the big, bloated, stupid-decision-making mega-monoliths are too slow to respond. They can't move quickly, they're almost completely out of touch with the market (particularly the youth market), and they spend absolutely enormous amounts of money on what still end up as shot-in-the-dark decisions.

So you get networks like Cartoon Network, hiring a bunch of twentysomething stoners who happen to be creative geniuses to do whatever they feel like doing, and they end up tapping a significant niche market that is profitable in cable.

Meanwhile, NBC's big show is still Fear Factor. Oh, and watch out for Wife Swap and its clone, Trading Spouses. Because 90% of America is borderline retarded and good writers seem to be a premium these days, the networks are forced to adapt their broad-market appeal business models the only way they know how -- shoot for the lowest common denominator. Goodbye writers, goodbye content. Hello Survivor 15: Chechen Outback.

Given the choice between Fear Factor: Family Edition and, say, Dead Like Me, Six Feet Under, SportsCenter, or anything on Adult Swim, which one are you going to TiVo and watch later?

Also, it doesn't help that the networks decide to cancel every damned show that comes along and doesn't suck. Firefly, anyone?

I thought it was pretty funny. I found myself wondering why they would cast two former Melrose actors, but why not? I'm definitely intrigued enough to tune in next week.

HD really showed Nicolette Sheridans' plastic surgery. She really didn't look good. Granted, it's been 18 years since she started on Knotts Landing, but it is possible to age gracefully without going under the knife. Unfortunately she took the Joan Van Ark route.

My wife and I watched it..best we could as the local ABC station had issues with the HD feed.

I liked it better than my wife, though she plans on catching it next week.

Half the appeal of that show is the women. Marcia Cross...never cared for her.

The woman with 3 kids is awesome! She reminded me of edie falco...just a bit.

Have you seen Jon Van Ark recently on The Young and the Restless? Man, she looks like she had someone pull the skin back o her face as to stretch it as far as possible. Not a good look. I loved N. Sheridan on Knots Landing and she has aged, but not to the Jon Van Ark extreme. To me, N. Sheridan looked good last night, for her age. Teri Hatcher looked liked she hadn't gotten any sleep in 3 days. But she did look decent.

The Philly ABC affiliate had sound problems for the 1st 15 minutes. Fortunately I TiVoed both the HD and SD versions. The problems were weird. All I could hear is the background music. There was no dialog.

I saw Joan Van Ark in person a couple of years ago. Her nose looked like a razor blade and she had obviously just had botox injections. She was frightening.

What you could have said was that "By watching this show we can look at our relationship and see how much better it is than the sad lives that these characters live". You could have said that "I'm only going to watch this show b/c I want to gloat at how much more beautiful you are than any of the women on this show". Or you could have said "I'm watching this show b/c I love you so much and I want to be motivated to make sure that the love is always there asn that it never fades. ;) All of those should work for you. NEW YORK (AP) - For a network desperate for hits, "Desperate Housewives" provided quite the tonic for ABC. The drama about suburban angst drew a stunning 21.3 million viewers for its premiere Sunday night, according to Nielsen Media Research. It follows the success of another new ABC drama, "Lost," which has also intrigued viewers during the first two weeks of the TV season.

Or he could have just stated that he didn't find it offensive to women and that he liked it. That's what I would have said... of course, I'm not married. Maybe after you get married you start having to lie more... I don't know... ;)

I was luckily able to pick up an ABC affiliate (I'm not even supposed to be able to pick any up) to watch it in upconverted 720p the first 22 minutes and in 720p HD the rest of the show. I mainly watched for Teri Hatcher and decided to watch one episode to see what it was like and enjoyed it enough to watch the next episode. I didn't find it degrading to women at all, although I did find it degrading to men, but we do that well enough on our own! ;)

FWIW, I had a bunch of people over last night to watch episodes 1 & 2 of Lost, so we also watched Desperate Wives. We found it highly entertaining. But it was a group of gay guys... it's the kind of thing we like anyway. Both shows made the cut for our weekly TV night. Tall, I'm not married. I just understand, as I'm sure you do, how to make a woman feel better about herself when she feels threatened as most of them always do. I don't usually watch much serial programming on the networks but unfortunately I watched Desperate Wives, it was poor. It was trying so hard to be a hip Sex in the City for bored housewives, but with poor writing, and not very original and not very interesting IMO. (Maybe cause the suburbs are like that). Most of the characters were forgettable, except maybe the lawnboy and I felt sorry for him. I did think the wife mowing the lawn to keep her lawnboy lover was funny, and I don't blame her! The networks are really struggling to keep up with the quality programming on the non-networks. I won't watch it again. mainly didn't like any of the main characters.

This is very sad news indeed...I had no idea. I was so looking forward to watching this in HD.

There is the high camp factor. (woman mowing lawn in gown so her gardener lover won't get fired by her husband). Also, for some reason gay men are drawn to strong women as well as bitchy women. I don't understand it myself, but it's a fact.

I completely agree. I though the writing and acting were terrible. My wife agreed. The only place to get good scripted drama and comedy these days sems to be HBO. No wonder the networks do better with reality shows. They have to be really bad to be worse than their dramas.

There's other narration type things around. Showtimes "Dead like me" is narrated.

but it's the phrase "... and just like that..." that was delivered just like Carrie Bradshaw would have done. Now that you mention it, Dead Like Me used the exact same phrasing on this week's episode as well. (Love Dead Like Me!)

I guess that since it was used just about every week on Sex & The City I will always attribute that phrase to that show.

The narration stuff on sex and the city was funny and made sense because she was narrating her newspaper column. On desperate housewives it seems lame.

The narration bothers me not. It is the creators{ of the show} creation. Whether they pillaged the idea from other content, that's thier problem.

IMHO, knowing who was who was helped along by the narration. Perhaps, the writers feel it easier to move the story along that way. They only have 40 minutes or so a week.

To give another perspective, I watched the first 2 episodes, and really liked them. Compared to the other cr@p all over the networks (I will NOT watch someone eat live insects again), this was refreshing.

I thought the writing was better than the average sitcom & the filming was great, notice the lush colors, everything was bright and sunny, 24/7, almost cat-in-the-hat like, this perfect surreal little suburb. Roll all that into a really nice HD feed. (Except for philly #@$%ing up the first 15 minutes of audio on the premier).

Also, the casting is quite good, Teri looked good (gravity notwithstanding), the red head from melrose freaked me out - she is a total psycho-stepford-martha-stewart. Don't even get me started on EVA LONGORIA. She's the only one who looks like she actually sleeps at night (I assume this is intentional), and boy oh boy does she look. Nice costuming I might add...

The narration is OK, helps move things along, and the 'mystery' plot is intriguing. There were some quite funny moments as well.

All in all, for network TV, I think ABC has a big hit on their hands, if they can keep it fresh. Sure, not HBO (which this would've been GREAT on - add foul language and nudity, and this could be the best show ever :), but not bad for network TV.

Now I can add this to ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT as one of the few new shows I enjoy, and season pass....

The show already aired...if someone hasn't watched the show yet then they should not be reading a thread about it! I would only use spoliers if the info is about an un-aired esp, or inside information.

I think what the voice over really said was that it contained "what was thought to be human remains". Not that it really matters, I'm sure it will be human remains. but that would be very obvious, so maybe they will try a go another unsuspected direction.

During the dinner party scene when they were exchanging embarrassing stories to lighten the mood after Rex told everyone they were in marriage counseling, I kept hearing a strange noise and was wondering what it was. I muted the sound at the exact moment Bree said whatever it was that she said that shut everyone up and caused Rex to leave the table. What did she say?

Don't worry too much about it.

It's perfectly reasonable for advertisers to choose not to advertise on a particular program due to program content; other advertisers are reportedly beating down ABC's door to buy ad time because DH is one of the few hits so far this season.

The most recent issue of Advertising Age covered this matter quite well...

Further the NIMBYs that live around the towers continue their lawsuits to prevent the construction of a new tower for full power HD, so most Denver viewers can only dream about HD ABC or even 16:9 ABC...

I was hoping that Marcia Cross would fall out of that fantastic red bra! :) I cannont say enough about how well she looked. She maybe 43, but man I certainly wouldn't mind! All ABC needed to do was show her wearing the matching red thong with the red bra and it would have been heaven. How her husband couldn't get up for that even if she had to keep the burito from falling on the floor is beyond my comprehension. If I were her husband in real life it would be nothing but "weekend sessions" for us. ;)

I think that you're totally wrong. They split a peanut in half for desert and they also split a grain of rice in half and they eat that for dinner. I will give Marcia credit b/c she has alot "up top" while sadly, Eva has nothing "up top" or on the bottom. With Eva there is nothing to play with. In that situation she has to go at it hard during "sessions". I'll take a women who has not filled out, but she goes at it hard during "sessions" than a women who has filled out well who doesn't go at it hard during "sessions". Now the best of both worlds is a woman who has completely filled out and she goes at it hard. ;)

I just wish that Teri Hatcher had larger tatas and then I would kill for her. I liked her looks when she was in SuperMan. Give me one that has killer tatas and I will make sure that she makes up for it in the bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, hottub, swimming pool, did I miss anything? Okay the Golfcart, just got a new one that will run 30 miles an hour, hope I don't kill myself.

Yeh, but she is old and they do tend to drop after a while. Instead of classifing Terri's and many other older women as 32a, b, c, d, etc. the bra manufacturers should classify them as 32L, 33L, 34L etc. L would stand for long. Some women would have to be classified as 34L & B. L & B would stand for Long and Big but Teri doesn't fall into the L & B category.

I think the latter is much more likely, for they've too clearly implied the former. Also it plays into the kid being a victim and the father being evil.

Agree for the most part here, I think Mike was mad at himself for leaving it lying around as much as he was mad at her. It's important to remember that she found the money BEFORE he agreed to let her help him with the tile guy. That was her excuse to snoop some more. Also remember that noone asked her to get the dog a snack. Women DO snoop, not sure whether it comes naturally or as a defense mechanism against us guys being untrustworthy :-)

Both the gun and the cash were left in the cabinet by the "idiot" who was instructed to do so by the script so that Susan could find them without appearing to be searching through his personal things.

There was a scene in episode 203 where Michael tells George Michael "That cousin of yours is a helluva girl...its too bad you cant date her", and GM responds with "What...you wouldnt have a problem with that?". So I think the storyline is still there, just on the backburner. This is the type of show that loves to bring things back later down the road, so I wouldnt be suprised to see it turn up in the future.

So far... but I doubt it will last. I'll be very surprised if the kid's mom doesn't turn him in.

It'd be nice to see all of the DH women share a cover/feature...

They were -- and still are -- on the cover of the November 29 issue of 'Newsweek'.

This show just keeps getting better. I love how they're plugging that Dynasty movie during the commercials. They know their audience.

There were some great moments this week, but I love Gabrielle pushing the furniture down the street. She has some of the best sight gags (mowing the lawn in an evening gown).

I guess we put to rest the possibility that Rex was gay this week. He just likes to be dominated.

It's funny. I only watched this show's premier because there wasn't anything else on I wanted to see. I was completely expecting to hate it. Now I never want to miss it. I like the characters & plot which just keeps twisting all over the place.

Ironic, isn't it? He is finally getting what he wants from Bree - pain. This will probably end up saving their relationship. ;)

The Rex plot twist is absolutely awesome! This show has some fresh ideas and it seems to be getting better.

When she was giving him hell at the end my Partner said "he's probably getting off on this."

He certainly had that look on his face when Bree was chewing him out! ;)
