Does anyone know if these local feeds will ever flip the switch to hd? i was hoping univision(knvo) would go hd before the world cup began, but it looks like that won't happen anytime soon. "knvo ch 48 is in the process of transition to hd. We believe that we will be fully hd in time for the world cup series on june 11th. Telefutura will become hd at a later undetermined date. Thanks for posting the info. mbxrb 06-07-10, 11:32 PM Has any one found out the QAM channel for Knvo 48 in HD?Is it out yet or not? vikmars 06-08-10, 02:39 AM I'm currently away from the Valley so I can't see for my self and I don't particularly care about KNVO in HD for Univision, I'm more interested in what it means for XHRIO.....Is Entravision doing both in HD on the same channel? What about Telefutura HD? Like I said I can't see for myself and I haven't read anything that mentions it. Just that they have a permit to build another DT transmitter or something to that affect... Maybe I just misread something, I'm trying to make sense of everything. Since I was last in Harlingen a month ago things have certainly changed. silverthree 06-08-10, 09:51 PM XHRIO (Fox in HD) is also available on KSFE (DT20) 67.1. But KSFE is a low power station so their coverage area is smaller than KNVO's. KSFE has been on the air since about October. So far Univision is still not HD on KNVO's signal. huan12345 06-10-10, 06:40 PM Univision is now transmitting in HD but not XHRIO (Fox in HD) mbxrb 06-10-10, 09:14 PM Univision is now transmitting in HD but not XHRIO (Fox in HD) Do you have the QAM channel for Univision on Time Warner? silverthree 06-10-10, 09:29 PM Univision is now transmitting in HD but not XHRIO (Fox in HD) True. the HD signal has moved from 48.3 (Fox) to 48.1 (Univision) silverthree 06-10-10, 09:55 PM Ok. so I just happened to check, performed a rescan and I picked up XHRIO's digital signal on DT26! Not sure what's going on... working out the bugs? cheering 07-09-10, 04:00 PM cable channels jollygrunt 07-27-10, 12:54 PM I'm switching over from AT&T and DirecTV to Time Warner next Tuesday, taking advantage of the triple bundle pack, and saving myself some money in the process. It's been more than 5 years since I last had cable, and back then it was just digital cable (I don't recall HD services or even Roadrunner being available then) and it was still fairly new to the San Benito area. How is the picture quality in the valley for TWC as compared to satellite? I'm also going to try and drop by one of the local TWC offices to see for myself what it looks like. pilot20 07-27-10, 01:18 PM I am in the San Benito area and I have the triple from TWC. I think the picture quality is very good. I used to have Directv and the TWC picture quality is as good if not better. I also have an antenna for my locals, and I can't tell any difference between the antenna feed and the same locals on TWC. However, things such as the quality of your cable connection and the area where you live can play a role in the picture quality. I have been with the triple play for 3 years, and I have been happy. However, if you want a DVR, the TWC DVR isnt very good. And, if you want a Tivo, you have to have a cable card and a tuning adapter to receive the SDV channels which is most of them. The TA can be a pain to set up. No problems with phone and internet except when your cable goes out, so does your internet and phone. Fortunately, that doesn't happen often. jollygrunt 08-06-10, 06:50 AM Installation went through without a hitch except for being delayed a bit by the weather. It's early days, but overall I'm very happy with TWC. Roadrunner Standard with powerboost is fast, the digital phone works as advertised, the overall picture quality is good enough. The ondemand offerings are cool and so much better than what DirecTV offered. The musicchoice digital music stations are also leaps and bounds ahead of the crap that was Sonic Tap on DirecTV. Setting up a recording is easier and one is given more choices as to how to do it. The guide listings are a mess compared to the way that DirecTV listed their channels. I found it so much easier to find channels with their logical channel order. I received a SA 8240 HDC cable box. I'm not all that happy with it. I'm thinking of replacing it. I need to check with local TWC offices to see if they have anything else. Is there a HD DVR box that you could recommend? pilot20 08-06-10, 06:42 PM As far as I am aware, your only other choice for an HD DVR with TWC is a Tivo HD. There is the older Series 3 or the new Premier which is advertised as having a much faster processor and some other bells and whistles. The only problem with a Tivo is that you have to have a Tuning Adapter installed to be able to view the SDV channels, which is most of them. The Tuning Adapter can be a real pain to get set up. It took me several truck rolls to get mine working because none of the techs knew how to do it. Hopefully, the techs are now better trained. If you want to learn about Tivo and Tuning Adapter issues, check out these threads... http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=30&f=51 The Tivo surpases the TWC box in every way. But be prepaired for some headaches getting it working properly. jollygrunt 08-07-10, 07:34 PM I'm going to go ahead and stick with the box I have for now. I got it set-up to my liking after finding some online guides. Any word on the HD futures of Telemundo and Azteca America? I'd love to be able to get all the local Spanish stations in HD in order to watch my futbol games in hidef.:) jollygrunt 08-13-10, 06:44 AM The picture quality during the Cowboys preseason game last night on KRGV's HD channel via TWC was excellent. It was just so, so much better than the Hall of Fame game on KVEO Sunday night during which I noticed a good bit of pixelization throughout the game. cheering 08-14-10, 11:26 AM anyone scan lately ? i think 114-1 is v-me and 91-1 is Univision HD silverthree 08-14-10, 09:55 PM It appears that XHRIO is showing the Houston Texans preseason game in HD. huan12345 08-22-10, 08:41 AM XHRIO and Univision NEWS coming soon to HD..:D:) jollygrunt 08-23-10, 10:49 AM Once again, KRGV did a great job with the Cowboys game on Saturday. One tool that I use for this task is a computer program called TSReader. This program provides information on the stream the station is putting out through its transmitter, including the subchannels and their bitrates, resolutions, etc. Though I have many contacts across the country who can utilize TSReader to collect this information on my behalf, one area that has been consistently missing is the Harlingen/McAllen/Brownsville area. I am wondering if there is someone in the area who is using a computer-attached TV tuner with an over-the-air antenna on a Windows computer who would be willing to lend a hand on this matter. If not, I am willing to ship a tuner out on loan to someone who has a Windows computer and over-the-air antenna for the collection of data. If interested, please let me know by PM or e-mail. I greatly appreciate it. - Trip vikmars 06-22-11, 05:15 PM So uh....I've been back in Harlingen since the end of May. Since Time Warner apparently forces everyone into getting one of their boxes for HD, I haven't really been paying attention to TV. It irritates me, I'm only down for a month visiting family and I brought my TiVo HD with me but now that I know that Time Warner wouldn't be able to serve me, I elected to just watch Netflix on my XBOX. SO, as a result, I have no idea what's going on in the world of local broadcast either. I just switched on the news to see what the latest was in regards to the storms today and...well.....how long has Channel 4 being doing stretch-o-vision on their digital feed? I know it's fairly recent. It's annoying...are they trying to trick me into thinking they finally got with the times and went HD because....they aren't fooling me. Is this the start of an actual HD transition? cheering 07-16-11, 11:44 AM TWC 39 - TXCN anyone know how to get Texas Cable News Network on time warner ? huan12345 07-18-11, 08:23 PM anybody else getting 54-1 in HD?? also it seems like Channel 4's newscast is now in HD, well at least part of it. kevin120 07-18-11, 09:07 PM TWC 39 - TXCN anyone know how to get Texas Cable News Network on time warner ? A few weeks ago they dropped their Catholic subchannels 38.3 and 38.4. I thought that might be a sign they were working on their PSIP data but I guess not. silverthree 09-01-11, 10:20 PM anybody else getting 54-1 in HD?? also it seems like Channel 4's newscast is now in HD, well at least part of it. VCN stands for Valley Catholic Network. That's how they've been ID'ing the channel. The program airing right now is more of a PBS show than a Catholic one. On another note: is anybody else picking up KTFV (rf48) ch 32.1? Today is the first day I pick it up. It is airing Telefutura in HD. I'm staying with my parents for a few months while I prepare for my final year of college. I brought my TiVo Premiere with me to plug into my rabbit ears. Holy crap. The whole thing is jumbled. Some channels are missing guide data, some are displaying out of date data and some channels like XHRIO on 2.1 aren't even listed. As a service to anyone in the valley who has a TiVo connected to rabbit ears or anyone who uses zap2it.com to find program listings, I'm trying to send them a notice to get some issues resolved. I seem to have a grasp on every thing except for KTLM's subchannels I pick up: 40.1 - KTLM HD 40.3 - According to Wiki this is MTV Tr3s. But it appears to be a bunch of infomercials. Not sure what it is. 40.4 - On screen ad to sublease channel 40.2 and 40.4 40.5 - Audio Only 40.6 - Audio Only What I need to figure out is what 40.3, 5 and 6 actually are. Anyone have any insight? I think I have all the other channels pinned down correctly silverthree 05-14-12, 11:23 PM 40.3 was Tr3s until about two months ago. It's obvious they are not interested in quality programming. lol vikmars 05-15-12, 04:05 AM 40.3 was Tr3s until about two months ago. It's obvious they are not interested in quality programming. lol I hear that. I don't even care about this channel but I am very displeased with Tribune Media Services. They supply TiVo with their listings (as reflected by zap2it.com) and it's very very disappointing to see they don't keep up with their listings in...shall we say...less sexy locations. I know OTA can be fickle, particularly the Subchannels but this isn't the first time I've had guide listing problems on TiVo. Usually it's cable. Point is, this is about more than just KTLM but they were the one channel I didn't have info on. Trying to pass the info on to Tribune so that they can do their job and provide accurate and up to date listings. I know they have every single media market to deal with but someone needs to keep them true. Only so many people can send in discrepancy reports before they finally act. You get better results actually reporting these kind of discrepancies directly to TiVo but for a mess up this big it's better to go to the source. Plus TiVo's online form is set up more for cable than for reporting on OTA. While I'm on the subject of TiVo. I noticed some interesting things while scanning my antenna for channels, some of it listings related. The listings for KTLM 40.1 are mapped to UHF channel 20 instead of Channel 40. I'm out of range of KFXV so I can't verify whether or not I would get XHRIO broadcast with KTLM listening and PSIP number. I imagine I would, I don't think the TiVo uses PSIP the way it's intended to use on a regular ATSC tuner. My box and antenna can pick up KTLM and all subchannels (with no listings mapped to it) on both UHF 40 and 22. Is 22 just a repeater? I'm on the north end of Harlingen and with an amplified set of rabbit ears I got both in at about equal strength. Seems redundant. I woulda guessed I got one or the other but not both. Maybe one of the more curious things was KFXV. Tribune has 67.1 and 67.2 listed twice. In both instances Fox was the main channel and CW was subchannel 2. The first set was listed as XHRIOTD on 67.1 and XHRIOTD2 on 67.2 and according to the channel list, they were mapped to VHF channel 2. Somewhere between Tribune's listings and TiVo's tuner it decided that 67.1 and 2 were broadcasting on channel 2. I'm not sure how or why. Needless to say it was complete blackness and I'm gonna inform Tribune that these listings are redundant and unnecessary. The other set is mapped to channel 20 but as I said before, I'm out of range with the set up I got so I can't really verify that these channels are working correctly but I can only assume they do. Everything about them is correct except the call letters. They are listed as KCWTLD and KCWTLD2 were these the call letters for this station at some point? I guess it's not the worst thing in the world but still, they should probably get the memo that the calls are now KFXVLD. On the Subject of XHRIODT and KFXVLD. What's the deal? I've always wondered but not being here I didn't really care too much. Now that I'm here and dealing with it, it just seems odd to me. Is it really that big of a problem for the majority of the valley to pick up 2.1 that Fox needs to be front and center on 67.1? I saw a station bumper earlier and the way it was written it made it seem like 2.1 was for the Mexican side and 67.1 was the American side but I pick up 2.1 way easier. I think I'd much rather see 2.1 be the one and only location for Fox and let KFXVLD be just CW, maybe even in HD. I've always thought the whole XHRIO and KNVO 48.3 business was a hot jumbled mess and when I heard XHRIO was moving to it's own channel on 2.1 I thought it would make the situation better but I feel like things are only sillier. silverthree 05-16-12, 09:40 PM Yeah zap2it's listings are not so accurate. KCWT are actually the call letters for ch 30 in La Feria. I believe it used to be Telefutura. I don't think this station is broadcasting in digital yet but as the call letters suggest they are/will be a CW affiliate. And I have no idea why Fox is on both 2.1 and 67.1. 2 should be easier to pick up for most since its signal is stronger. And BTW, yes KTLM does have a repeater on ch 22. vikmars 05-16-12, 10:19 PM Zap2it kinda sucks simply for the fact that they don't do a good job keeping their listings current which would be fine since no other online listing site really does either....but Zap2it reflects the the official lineup used for TiVo boxes and what good is paying for a TiVo if you are getting incorrect data. It can be reported to TiVo and they are quite good at resolving issues, the only problem there is their online form is kinda short and it's set up more for fixing issues with cable listings. Here's a great example of the way Tribune Media Services runs Zap2it and how TiVo is mostly powerless about it: I'm in college up at Huntsville and we have Suddenlink. I had the full digital and HD package on a cable card in my TiVo. Suddenlink at one point planned to have a massive channel realignment that would have had all the HD channels mirror the basic cable lineup only on a higher number range, similar to how AT&T does it with U-Verse. They scrapped the plan. No one told Tribune and they proceeded to update and change the entire lineup for that provider leading to just about every digital and HD channel being in the wrong location. When I called TiVo to report this mass issue and tell them they needed to revert back to the previous lineup, the guy helping me's only advice was to try to find another provider that had a similar lineup for my box to load....they finally figured it out and it was fixed within a day, much faster than the 5 to 7 days they say it takes to fix a lineup error. That to say, when you talk to TiVo, they listen and do something about it. When you report to Zap2it, sometimes they listen and sometimes they ignore you which sucks since they are the source and you'd think it would be easier to cut out the TiVo middle man. One time the only reason they updated the listings for Huntsville was because this very forum put me in contact with a Suddenlink representative who was kind enough to look into the issue and talked to Tribune for me after numerous failed attempts on my part. Also, very interesting about the KCWT. I'll keep that in mind. |
