Does anyone have any experience hooking the firewire 6 pin on the hdtv to a 4 pin firewire on the RCA DRC8060N DVD recorder. I was kind of hoping I could record the signal to DVD similiar to the DVR2160 I have hooked up. The 4 pin firewire input on the DVD recorder is for connecting a camera to the DVD recorder. Looking for something beyond the limitations of the DVR2160, since I have a big satellite dish, the only thing I can record on the DVR2160 is over-the-air digital broadcast thanks, Bear

4 and 6 pin firewire are the same, except the larger one provides power over it. Any cable that has the correct pinout that you desire should work fine.

I have to take my HD61LPW165 in to see about repair. What started out as a dark spot the size of an orange has over night morphed into streaks of dark across the screen. The local repair place said he thinks the light engine may be going out. RCA warranty expires in 2 weeks so I want to get it loaded and repaired before extended warranty kicks in. Since I didn't buy it from that dealer, he won't make a house call. Anyone else have this problem?? Thanks, Bear

DaveWolf 01-18-07, 03:35 PM This thread needed a bump. Also is anyone else experiencing ballast troubles on the 162 unit?My TV is less than 2 years old (not sure of hours), but sometimes has trouble coming on initially. The color wheel sounds like it is starting, but no picture comes on. I get the blue light that flashes 3 times. The set resets itself and then the process starts over again.
It sounds like the bulb is not "striking" to come on, which I assume is related to the ballast. Usually after 10-15 minutes it will finally come on. When it finally does come one, the picture looks as great as the first day I had it, so I really don't think it is the bulb itself. Any suggestions?

This is what happened to me for several months before my bulb blew. However, I do think my screen was slightly dimmer than when I had purchased it. Check the maintenance codes to get the bulb life and see how many hours you have.
Mine was early-ish, at just under 2000. If you have an extended warranty that covers the bulb, just go ahead and order it now. I did this before mine died, and it took them a month to get me the new bulb. My bulb went out just a few days before it came in!

davethestalker 01-18-07, 07:30 PM I should have posted here when it all went town...
After only 9 months of "normal" use (10 hours per day, every day), my bulb went out with a BANG! So, I called RCA/Thomsen and great it's in stock and it will arrive in 7-10 days....yeah right :(
The next day they 'secured $318 TWICE on my debit card and my wife nearly had a heart attack! After we got that resolved, they told me it would be sent express and I will get it in about 3 days, yeah right. I called at the end of that week and I got the "order is pending" excuse.
And now we moved to a new address, so I had to update the address and the order was still "pending", even though it is in stock.
2 weeks after I should have initially received it, I called and they told me it was out of stock!! I called back 3 hours later and then they told me it was "in stock".
Another week goes by and I call again. Yep, it has already been sent and I had to call Customer Services to get the order number...."Was it sent to the new address?" "Yes".
Great, I've got a tracking number and let me see where it's at....to FedEx.com I went. WHAT!!!!! IT WAS HERE 3 DAYS AGO!!!??? IT'S BEING SENT BACK TO SENDER!!!!!????? WRONG ADDRESS?????? WHY DIDN'T THE DRIVER GO TO THE APARTMENT MANAGER'S OFFICE!!!??? Please FedEx freeze it and send it back to me, I'm begging!
I was missed at my local hub. Then it flew under the rada in Nashville. It almost escaped Memphis! It was actually on the truck ready to head to Mississippi.
Fortunately, I was talking with someone from Tenn. that was actively handling it and I trying to track it online like a hawk. 20 minutes before she left the office, I noticed another scan, so I jumped on the phone and then she called Memphis to ask that it be frozen, which it was.
The next morning it was here bright and early.
Then a few days later, there was a shadow the size of a golf ball right in the middle of the screen! A serviceman came out a few days later and said, "Most people would not have even noticed that." I had to point it out to him even!
I have until Feb. 23 to get a 3 year (1 time lamp replacement) warranty through Target.com. I'm guessing I'll get another year out of this lamp and then a year from the new lamp. By then, maybe 50" LCD flat panels will be available and affordable.
I should be getting my PS3 in a couple of weeks, and that thing runs at 1080p and this TV does not. So, $1500 for a TV that has a 3 year lifespan? What a rip off!!!
I will never buy a RCA product again.
DaveWolf 01-19-07, 10:01 AM Falz,
You make me nervous. That is what I was afraid of. I checked last night and I have 1,380 hours, so still relatively young. I have the extended warranty through Best Buy, and per the manager's own words when I pressed him on when I got the TV, bulb replacement was included in the warranty. (Although reading on here makes me question if they will honor that even though that was the only reason I got the warranty!)
I basically have about 16 months left on my warranty so I am OK for a bit. I would love to go ahead and order a replacement bulb to have on hand when it does blow, but I have a hard time thinking Best Buy will agree to replace the bulb without first coming out to service/inspect the old one.
davethestalker 01-19-07, 03:08 PM RCA gives you one year to put the bulb through it's paces and get it to break. If you are still within your first year, when the original bulb bursts, who's to say you cannot call RCA yourself and have them send you the lamp? They make it very simple to replace.
When the second one breaks, then use the Best Buy warranty. Be sure to renew your BB warranty if you had not used them to replace the lamp before the end of the BB warranty period.
There is no seal or anything like that. You unscrew one screw to open the door. Then there are two screws that hold the lamp in place. It slides down and you slide the new one in place. Screw the screws, close the door and there ya go....easy.
You do have to send the dead lamp back to RCA.
DaveWolf 05-08-07, 09:53 AM An update on my story. A couple of weeks ago, I finally scheduled an appointment for a Best Buy technician to come out and look at my television. He was scheduled to come on a Saturday morning. I wound up having to work, and right before he showed up at the house my wife found out her grandfather had just passed away during the night. So she was scrambling around trying to get things ready to go while he was there.
He briefly turned on the set, it did the blinking blue light and color wheel spin. The sound came on like normal with no picture. Without doing anything else, he agreed and ordered me a new bulb. Didn't even look at anything else on the set.
This may have been an exception due to the extreme circumstances of our situation, not sure. I wasn't totally sure what was going on until I received a brand new bulb in the mail in less than two weeks. The receipt shipped with it showed it was paid in full.
My old bulb seems to be doing better, although it still acts up about half the time. For the time being, I've decided to live with the aggravation and just keep the new bulb on the shelf. Will probably replace after this summer once football season rolls around.
I was very impressed with the Best Buy service warranty. I was really afraid they would give me a lot of trouble since my issue was bulb-related but they were very nice.
jimcat11 10-14-07, 02:16 PM Hi there.. I have not used the VCR until last night. Trouble? I was watching 2 programs.. recording one.. well when I went back to play the recorded one.. it had part of the show I was recording.. but, when I went back to the antenna (fox tv) it recorded parts of the ball game.
The movie was on Starz on Directv..
QUestion.. how can I have the 162 record one program off directv using my vcr while watching an over the air show ( antenna) or vice versa?
Older tv's did this. I am using composite connections
