I know there's a lot of interest in this upcoming receiver, no doubt driven by the spectacular consumer reviews of the VSX-1014TX. I'm making this thread to post all the information I have found so far.
Pioneer Press Release:
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/press/release/detail/0,,2076_4313_191756416,00.html
CNET's CES 2005 coverage:
http://www.cnet.com/4520-10602_1-5620277-1.html
I think this webpage is in polish..but it has a pretty good sized picture of the 1015TX:

http://www.pcworld.pl/news/grafaczytaj.asp?id_gfx=10034&obrazek=duzy
Looks like some of the logos that were on the bottom of the 1014TX are now on the flip down front panel of the 1015TX. The 1015TX also adds the WMA9 logo on the right hand side.
Here is another picture. Looks like the power button has a blue led added to it.

Edited to change the title of the thread.
Man I am really excited about this 40Lb beast!! Are there any pre orders? what r good authorized pioneer dealers?
Are there any more THX select 2 recievers coming out?
Here's yet another picture of the 1015TX with the front panel flipped down.

Where did you get the information that it is 40lbs? The 1014TX is 34lbs, so I suspect that the 1015TX will have a similar weight.
According to the THX website, only the VSX-1015TX sold in various regions is THX Select2 certified so far. I am pretty sure there will be more on the way.
I think I saw on Ces report some where, may be to meet THX select 2 criteria they had to beef it up, by 6 lbs or so?
korndawg 01-13-05, 08:44 PM I see that the MSRP is $650, so how much do you think it will sell for on the net? I have an order to JR for the 1014, and I was maybe thinking bout cancelling it, waiting a couple months, and then grabbing up the 1015.
Well, MSRP on the 1014TX was also $650 but the list price at many retailers was $499. I expect prices to be similar to be what you can find on the 1014TX when it came out which was less than list.
Even though the press release says the 1015TX will be available in March, you probably won't find it widely available until probably mid-to-late Spring. The 1014TX was also due out in August 2004 but it didn't become widely available until mid-to-late September of last year. I got mine in mid-October 2004.
who cares, march or april, thats what we want..
ntrprize 01-14-05, 02:05 AM thanks for the info. I can harly wait!
SouthBark 01-14-05, 09:31 AM From those pics, it doesn't look like the top edge is slanted (or beveled) as in the 1014. Is this correct?
Laura Palmer 01-15-05, 01:20 AM I know there is very little information known at this point, but is it safe to assume that the component jacks will be wideband? Was the 1014?
Y'see I was all set to buy the Yamaha 5790 but then I found out that it wasn't compatible with HD switching because it wasn't wideband. So I want to save myself from getting into that trap.
Other than that, the 1015 looks great! Can't wait to buy it because I was pretty dead set on the 1014 until this one was announced.
I'd be curious to know if this had a USB port on the back though, I saw a Pioneer Elite one with Mp3/WMA decoding once that had a USB port on the back. I assume it was for this sort of thing.
Oh one more thing, I read somewhere that they're finally going to add a 3rd component video jack instead of the standard two? That'd be great.
korndawg 01-15-05, 05:39 AM Quick question on the 1015. What is the importance of the WMA9 feature? I'm gonna be building a HTPC in the future, so would this be an option I'd want? Thanks

You go on and on about 40 lb beast in every thread you post in yet this has never been said anywhere. Get a grip.
40lbs punny, i hope u feel better now!

The WMA9 feature should let you bypass the DACs on your PC's soundcard and let the receiver's DACs do the processing.

Zoro,
unless you can provide a link as to where you saw that the weight of the yet to be released 1015TX is 40lbs, its not helping anyone. There was enough confusion on the weight on the 1014TX when Pioneer posted some misinformation on the product page for the 1014.
David Brent 01-15-05, 06:45 PM He's posted it in every damned thread. He seems to have a screw loose.

Laura,
I don't know who told you the 5790 was inadequate for switching HD, but they were wrong. I had an RXV-1400 (same unit, different marketing channels) for 3 weeks and it switched HD just fine. That being said the 4790/rxv-1400 is a nightmare as far as user interface when trying to set different surround formats.

I dont know where you heard that Yamaha 5790 is not wideband for HD switching. I own a 2 year old Yamaha 5490 which does superb HD switching with its 60MHZ wideband. I doubt Yamaha in the 3'd generation after my HTR5490 would lower the bandwidth on its receiver. It is Sony ES receiver which I tried had poor HD switching, but then again IMHO Sony Audio Receivers suck big time .
I apologize it is a Pioneer thread, but I had to point it out. BTW what's the videobandwidth on Pio 1014/1015? Do they even post it? It used to be only 37MHZ a couple years ago, did they increase it since?

The bandwidth on the 1014TX is 40MHz. Several members here have reported no problems with HD. I haven't seen a reported bandwidth on the 1015TX yet.
Hi,
1014 has only two components input. Does 1015 has three inputs?
Xiaoyu,
Ja Phule 01-18-05, 12:15 PM Xiaoyu,
Yes it does, it is one of the main selling points in the 1015.
JETninja 01-18-05, 12:39 PM I do Component Switching (Toshiba 2900 and Motorola 6412 HD PVR) and it works fine. I watch on a calibrated 55" RPTV and am quite please. That 3rd input on the 1015 would be nice, I can see an XBOX2 in my future! :D
I even have a VXS-811s and I switch my components with it and I certainly notice a quality increase between HDTV and Progressive scan DVD, so even the old 27 or 37mhz is not degrading mine (notice no difference conencting direct either).
That being said, I will be replacing my 811 with the 1015 when it comes out. DEF. want the MCCAC AND the 3rd comp in. I would get the 1014 now, but could really use that 3rd input :-) my HDTV only has 1 comp in and no DVI (3 yr old Samsung).
S_rangeBrew 01-18-05, 04:49 PM If that press release is correct, what *I* find the MOST exciting is that the cheaper 915 *and* 815 models will offer *5-band* MCACC automatic room calibration!
This feature was only included in the more expensive 1014 model last year.
This will be great for people (like my parents) who don't want to spend $450 on a huge reciever like the 1015, but who would really benefit from the MCACC setup.
I was wondering when this tech was going to move down-market. It's great to see it's happened so soon!
Another update:
Here's a picture of the back panel of the upcoming 1015TX (1015TX is the one on top):
http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/av/docs/20050114/dg20.jpg
Looks pretty much the same as the 1014TX back panel except for the extra set of component video inputs. The digital inputs and output are also moved from the top left of the back panel to the side just above the coaxial inputs. The unit is still made in Malaysia, so I suspect it is the same production line as the 1014TX. Power consumption is also 480W, same as the 1014TX.
so i guess no 7.1 direct input, can the 1014 be modded for a 7.1 input?
millerwill 01-18-05, 10:51 PM Trivial question (I presume): the 1014 has an input for plugging in a powered subwoofer, right? Which input is this?
Trivial question (I presume): the 1014 has an input for plugging in a powered subwoofer, right? Which input is this
Wouldn't you need an OUTPUT on the receiver to plug in a powered sub?
Yes, there is one. If you look on the back of the 1015 picture above the sub woofer output is bunched with all the pre out jacks. There is a white square around the sub out.
nrezaie 01-19-05, 01:00 AM So considering price is it worth waiting for the 1015 over the 1014???
I mean if you can get a 1014 right now for 400 authorized, would that be a bad choice???
I hate the idea of waiting 3+ months..... I almost hope there is a significant gap in price between the two. It would be really disappointing to find the 1015 at around the same price I buy a 1014 now.
Tweakophyte 01-19-05, 08:14 AM How do you take advantage of WMA?
audio newbie 01-19-05, 08:26 AM My only hope is that this model does not have the compatible problem with Dish Network reciever like the 1014.

The 1014TX (as does the 1015TX) has a subwoofer preout.

Both the MSRP for the 1014TX and the 1015TX are $650. I would expect you to be able to find the 1015TX for a similar price to the 1014TX, especially a few months into its release. Its up to you if you want to play the waiting game..but keep in mind that technology always gets better. I would just look at the differences between the two units and determine if the wait is worth it for you. If not, just the 1014TX and enjoy it because its an awesome receiver in its price range.
SouthBark 01-19-05, 01:06 PM Help me make an executive decision.
I am deciding between the 1014 and 1015. I can get the 1014 now for around $350 at a local electronics superstore here in Atlanta. I plan to buy an HDTV this summer, so it would have 1 hdmi, 2 component, and 2 S-video inputs.
Can anyone think of a reason I need the 3rd component on the 1015? The way I figure it:
HD SAT - hdmi
DVD - component
Xbox - component
That leaves me 1 component expansion by using the 1014. Any reason why I would need another? Thanks.
bill99hawk 01-20-05, 07:04 PM Well I'd like the 3 component inputs for HDTV, DVD, and XBOX. One day maybe a DVR too.
Very glad to see this. I've been almost set on the 1014 also, but now seeing this. I'm definately sold.
as to maybe answer SouthBark:

Why would you want to leave yourself with using all of the available inputs. Who knows what you may find yourself needing next, and needing another input. My vote goes to haveing more that you might use now, for availability when you do need it.
dalbrit1 01-26-05, 12:20 PM Like a couple of other people, I'm kind of intrigued by how the WMA works. I have a load of my CDs ripped to my computer in WMA Lossless. Will I be able to send them to the receiver via SPDIF and let the receiver do the decoding, instead of Windows Media Player having to do it? If this is the case, should this result in better quality playback?
Cheers,
Mark
Mark,
Maybe others who know more about the subject will chime in, but I'm pretty sure that is what the WMA-9 decoding feature on the 1015TX will allow the DAC on the receiver to do the decoding instead of the DACs on your PC's soundcard.
Wesley Hester 01-26-05, 06:39 PM I currently have a Denon AVR-3803 but I'm interested in the receiver. I wish it had more digital inputs (5 - 4 rear, 1 front is not much for me) and Zone 2 support. I really like my Denon's Zone 2 features (don't use amplification in Zone 2).
I like that it has component video upconversion (must have for my application). The 3 component video inputs is great for me (8+ would be even better but unrealistic of course).
I really like the price. Instead of upgrading to a Denon AVR-3805, I can take the same money and get the 1015TX AND the new Pioneer DV-588A-S player being released at the same time.
I also like the THX Select 2 modes and Dolby Pro-Logic IIx (have Pro-Logic II on my current Denon but I have 7 speakers I would like to take even more advantage of). I feel I would really enjoy the additional THX Select 2 modes for music, movies and video games.
For the list of features and price, I may have to live without full Zone 2 features.
P.S. I saw in another thread in this forum where someone mentioned it seemed some people with mid-range receivers looking at and getting lower priced receivers with as much or more features than their older one. I have to admit it makes alot of sense and I can really use the money for other upgraded.
Man, they better come out with it already. I am dying to replace my 811. Have the $$$4 right now for a 1014, but I am trying to compose myself and wait it out a bit for the 1015. No fun waiting, let me tell u!
I know I am better off waiting tho for that 3rd Comp in.
darn, i am in same boat!! are there any pre orders
Big Worms 02-01-05, 02:12 PM From Pioneer's web site...
The VSX-1015TX and VSX-915 will be available in April, while the VSX-815, and VSX-515 will be available in March at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $650, $475, $365, and $275 respectively.
So my thoughts are that you won't even see it until May or June.
Very nice receiver...I'm glad I canceled my order for the 1014. Does anyone know if this new model addresses the need for having the multichannel input select on the remote control. Thats why I canceled my order for the 1014. I have a six channel source I need to switch to and I don't like the idea of having to walk over to the receiver to switch it. I was ready to buy the Yamaha 1500 since it has this feature but I think I'll hold off.
Someone who posts here who calims to be a Pioneer sales rep said they should be out around April or so.
Not sure If I can wait until may or June. If the 1014 gets down to $325-350 shipped from an Autho'd dealer, I just might bite :-)
mboy, get $399 shipped from j&r and sell when new comes out

Yeah, I don't think so. It is going to be one or the other, not both.
Highly unlikely it will street before June.
Not sure if I can wait until June :-)
If the only real difference is 3 comp inputs and WMA, then it may be tough holding out. I would really like the 3rd comp, but if it hits $350 shipped from autho, I am going to have to bite :-(
well, let us know too!!
i dont know what is difference in select vs select 2 specs

Check the thx site out for the select 2 specs. I know that thx select2 adds a gaming mode.

Thnx a lot.
did i miss pdf manual here
Wesley Hester 02-02-05, 09:42 PM Can anyone confirm external analog inputs? I believe someone above stated it wasn't 7.1 but 5.1 - good enough for me now. Is there a "External In" or whatever phrased button on the remote to switch to the external inputs?
zoro, I've found it hard to find Pioneer manuals as of late. Hopefully someone can find one a post a link. That's really all I need to have too to know for sure if I'm going to get one or not.

Manual is on the page...
Thanks guys, so dilema persists 1014 or 15?
oh no, it is 1014 pdf only
I am seriously leaning towards 1014 right now, but wife thinks if she buys it for me over the next few weeks, that I will sell it when the 1015 comes out. I just can't see the prospect of waiting until June to get the 1015 @ $400 like the 1`014 is now. Not for wma9, not for an extra 10watts per ( I will never use), probabyl not even THX select2 (never even experiminted with THX select). Only thing Is the 3rd comp in for my Xbox, but I play maybe 5xs per year and can easily unplug my DVD player to plug it in. Running out of reasons to justify waiting when I can be enjoying the sound and MCACC (which is what I am realy after along with PLIIX) right now :-)
mboy, i think select 2 with gaming might be thing for you!
I am skeptical too, once 1015 is out, 1014 will loose heck a value
I just don't game that much. I don't think I have even touched my Xbox in at LEAST 6 months, and maybe only played it 3x4s in all of 2004.
I am not soo much worried about it losing it's value as I do not plan to sell it. Whatever I buy now is going to last me for the next 3-4 years unless Technology DRASTICALLY changes.
7.1 is the most amount of speakers I can stuff into my apt in 1 room :-)
sawyer1370 02-09-05, 11:34 PM Well after a lot of research over months and months, I finally have the perfect excuse to buy a new receiver. My Yamaha 795 is dead after moving across country. With the limited budget, and my heart set on a Pioneer, I'll be calling J&Rs tomorrow to buy this receiver.
Thanks for all the helpful and great info in this thread!
sawyer1370...Pls post when you get your 1014. I would be very interested to hear how it compares to your Yamaha 795. I'm looking to replace a 793 soon and I am wondering if there will be audible differences.
Thanks!
Laura Palmer 02-19-05, 11:01 PM Okay I'm stuck in the same boat practically all of you guys are in too... but I'm mostly curious why everyone thinks it will be JUNE until it's on shelves.
Doesn't a STREET date actually mean that it will be on the street? I mean it's not when the manufacturing begins... what's the rationale for people choosing June anyway?
I wanted to buy it in Canada through Future Shop or Best Buy... is everyone under the opinion that it WON'T be March/April, but more June/July?
Cause tomorrow there's a great deal on the 1014, and if it's really going to be that unpredictable of a delay I dunno if I want to wait. Though I would definetely benefit from a 3rd component input.
Selling and upgrading later isn't really a pleasant option. I dont' really want to go through that unfortunately.
I also planned on buying either the Pioneer 578 or 588 DVD player... will I have to wait for June as well for the DVD player?
Laura Palmer 02-19-05, 11:10 PM Oh and a couple other things... is this 5-band EQ really important? Is it just for better MCACC accuracy or does it make a difference in sound quality?
I'm also curious about how WMA 9 works...seems like we're all in the dark about that one though :)
I wish it had USB on the back though, like some of the Elites do.
Thanks,
Laura
Laura Palmer 02-19-05, 11:23 PM Hmm, not sure if I'm wrong on this, but in the press release Pioneer put out in January of 2004, they stated this.
"The VSX-1014 will be available in August at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $700."
Wasn't it, in fact, available in August? I could've sworn that that was when I saw it at my local Best Buy here in Canada. I could be wrong, but the delay certainly wasn't months after August.
Ja Phule 02-20-05, 01:51 AM The 1014 was available in August. I believe there was limited stock at many retailers like j&r and onecall and they were backordered frequently then. 1014s didn't seem to really hit until October.
Well, I bought the 1014. Boy am I gklad I didn't wait for the 1015.
ealized now that I will never use THX, don't care much for WMA decoding. Only thing was the 3rd component input.
Well, this Friday night, my Samsung HDTV died and was not worth fixing (over $500 to fix). It only had 1 comp. in which is why I was wanting to wait for the 3rd on the 1015.
Bought a Sony KV32HS420 that has 2 comp ins and 1 HDMI. So now, I will have my cable DVR connected by HDMI, my DVD connected by Comp, my XBOX HD pack by Component and STILL have 1 component free :-)
Realy enjoying my 1014 for $400!
bbqbbqq 02-20-05, 06:31 AM Laura,
If you decide to wait for 1015, don't forget it will take another few months before 1015 drops to current price point of 1014 on sale. Like boxing day 2005.
By then, another new model is probably on the horizon :).
Mboy,
Try THX mode on an older movie (e.g. pre-80's movie, not recently remastered). THX mode will smooth out the harsh dialog.
bigskyguy 02-22-05, 12:45 PM I too am waiting for the 1015. I was looking at the 1015 and cosmetically it looks exactly the same as the 1014. The face and even the remote are identical. Only thing that is different is where the the designation of the receiver model and THX designation are placed. Makes one wonder what internal changes have been made. Will it be worth the wait?
Bombthroat 02-27-05, 05:28 PM Does anyone know if this receiver will support Dolby Digital Plus and DTS-HD?
Thanks in advance.
The VSX-515 and VSX-815 are available for pre-order on the J&R website. This is in line with the original timing as stated in Pioneer's press release which listed these models for March 2005. The 1015TX-K and the VSX-915 are due in April 2005, so everything looks on track.
kbellve 03-01-05, 12:53 PM I am glad I stopped by and checked this forum. I was looking at the Denon HTiB with includes 3 component video in.
I believe this is a key feature for me between the 1015 and 1014.
Here would be my connections:
1) Directv HDTV receiver
2) DVD Player
3) Linksys WMLV54G (www.linksys.com/press/press.asp?prid=191)
#3 Would allow me, for very little cost, stream video and audio from my PC in another room to the pioneer receiver.
earler reply stated compatability problems between Pioneer 1014 and Dish receiver- I can not find any other reference to this? Can anyone shed any light? I have Dish 921 HD receiver and was thinking about going with a 1014
shpankey 03-01-05, 05:19 PM i see they still haven't addressed the lack of optical inputs from the 1014tx

I guess 3 isn't enough...
Anyone have any insight into when the VSX-815 will ship from J&R?
Mine is on pre-order and they can't give me any expected ship date. My speakers arrive on Wed and it will be painful to have new speakers and no receiver:(

Ripper64 03-07-05, 01:39 PM I got the 1014 today and it smokes the Yamaha 1400 I sold off.I had enough of the audio drop-outs on the 1400.I was skeptical about all the rave about the 1014 until I plugged in.I thought the 1400 sounded good until I listened to the 1014.The only thing that sucks is I now have a new problem.I have a Dish Network 501 receiver and the optical doesn't work with the 1014.I knew about this problem but didn't care for the time being. To me Dolby Digital that dish produces doesn't sound all that great to me compared to DVD for what ever reason.Don't get me wrong its still alright.I'll probably move up to a 1015 ot higher end Pioneer later on.The 1014 is just a filler for now.:D
dynamowhum 03-11-05, 11:17 AM Rats, I was all set to go with a 1014 and you guys had to post this. I can wait for this.
mjs90201 03-12-05, 08:40 AM Is there any chance Pioneer will downgrade the amplifier quality of the 1015 so that it does not compete with their Elite line as strongly as the 1014?

If this is the case, should this result in better quality playback?

Maybe others who know more about the subject will chime in, but I'm pretty sure that is what the WMA-9 decoding feature on the 1015TX will allow the DAC on the receiver to do the decoding instead of the DACs on your PC's soundcard.
As long as the connection from the computer digital the DACs on the receiver will convert to analog. DACs don't decode or process.
SPDIF is a standard for uncompressed digital audio transmission. If you connect by SPDIF, the computer will decode, and the receiver will convert to analog. If the receiver is connected by some other means (ethernet, usb, etc.) it may or may not process wmas.
You can get perfect wma decoding on PC by using foobar and a soundcard that supports asio or a sound card that natively bypasses the windows sound system.
dynamowhum 03-13-05, 09:25 AM CSMR just got Windows Media Center and found out it does not support asio. Do you know if my Nforce 3 250 MSI board can bypass the windows sound system? If not how do I find out? Thanks.
dynamowhum 03-13-05, 12:04 PM Another point after rereading this thread is THX select 2 is for small to medium sized rooms not necessarily dedicated to HT. I wish they would quantify small and medium sizes. It drives me bats when they do that. One mans medium is another mans large or small. Okay end of rant. My room is 15X20, do you guys think this is a medium room? I just wondering if it would do enough for me to be worth the premium over the 815. I just don't think the extra 20 watts per channel will be that noticeable. Let me know your thoughts please.
ntrprize 03-13-05, 12:49 PM Its not just the watts per channel. The 1014 is based off the elite line, and we are assuming that the 1015 will be too. The elite has better innards and more features that can be well worth it over the 815.
{Godlightsoul} 03-13-05, 10:06 PM looks like the 1014 is not available from best buy website anymore...
pre1014 03-23-05, 04:06 PM just wanted to give this a bump and say that the 1014 is 349 now and j&R. still has like 40 dollar shipping though. Still no sign of the 1015 and still only preorders of the 815/515
sbarrier 03-24-05, 04:17 PM I sent an email to J&R inquiring about the availability of the 1015. They replied that they didn't have a firm date, but that it would be $429.99.
SoonerCaniac 03-24-05, 04:23 PM Wow, that's a fantastic price for the 1015, no? Only 30 dollars more than the current model, give or take. Hopefully they stick to that price, I didn't expect the price to drop from MSRP so dramatically before it even hits the shelves.
Also, the 915 was posted on J&R's website today for four Ben Franklins with the "call for better price" note on the site. Seems awfully close to the 1015 price, the "better price" discount must be large. They have listed the 915 as a 6.1 receiver though, they have to fix that.

steinre1 03-24-05, 06:38 PM Does anyone know if the 1015 will have a lip sync delay setting? Can anyone confirm that th 1014 does not have this feature?
pittdog1 03-24-05, 06:52 PM The 1014tx does not have this feature. The 1014 and assummably the 1015tx use a mosfet amp section where as the 814 and 815(also assumably) use a hybrid amp technology. The difference is night and day at louder volumes. And the difference is probably more than 20 watts with all channels driven. I believe that the small or medium room is 3000 cubic feet. If you have a 20X15 room with 8' ceilings this translates to 2400 cubic feet and it would be great. I could be off on the 3000 number but i think it's right.
{Godlightsoul} 03-27-05, 01:41 AM Sunday April 17th!!!
that is the day that Best Buy will stock the 1015!!!
The reciever is already in their computer system!
I just bought an open box 1014. I have 27 more days to return it, so if the 1015 has all the extra features AND still has the mofset amplifier, I think I will have to return the open box 1014 and get the 1015.

Good news. It is time to order my speakers and subwoofer to go along with the system. I have been (im)patiently waiting for 1015.

Well for me HD and DVR are one in the same (an HD DVR). Ideally, that would be connected via an HDMI (audio issues right now). My DVD player uses component but the next one I buy will use HDMI (and hopefully play HD DVDs). Both are connected directly to the TV.
I won't be hooking an XBox up to my Plasma (burn-in concerns and I would rather use my PC). If I did , I could use the front component jacks.
I would be much more interested in the 1015 if it had more toslink & coax inputs. I will have only one free coax input (and no free toslink) if I buy the 1014 or 1015. If it had HDMI switching it would be a no-brainer. An extra component input just isn't very interesting.

indianrider 03-29-05, 06:32 PM JR.com is going to sell VSX-1015TX-K for 429.99$. 45$ cheaper then bestbuy. Don't know when they are going to start shipping it out. According to an email from a JR.com sales guy, he is asking me to call him for immediate delivery of the receiver. So, I think it is already stocked. I dont know if I should wait for a month to get the best rate. But 430$ looks like an awesome rate since vsx-1014 sells for 350$. I might bite it tommorrow.

don't forget ~$40 J&R charges for shipping.
that makes it $5 less than bestbuy. Although I do not like bestbuy very much, I would say that being able to have a local retailer in case of problems is worth the extra $5
of course if JR can deliver sooner....

steinre1 03-29-05, 10:57 PM Now that the 1015 are showing up in stock, is there any word whethar it has an a/v delay feature?
Tweakophyte 03-30-05, 07:21 AM Any info online yet?
Gertjan 03-30-05, 07:46 AM Aaahhh.. I just read all about the 1014 and was ready to pull the trigger on that as a great upgrade to my HTiB receiver, and then i read about all this!
I'm mainly interested in getting a good receiver with decent power right now, and then in the future i want to use it as a pre-amp to some pro amps that i'll be buying to go the separates route.
I don't really need the component video switching and all that. It's nice, sure, but i won't be using it. I have a HTPC and a projector that takes 5BNC, so the receiver's component switching is not going to do me any good.
Question:
Is the 1014/1015 really what i should be getting, or would one of the lower models be fine for my purposes?
I believe that the 1014 is such a good deal because it has the (much?) better amps than the lower models in that line, hence it'd be worth it for me right now since i won't have separate amps for a while.
Is it confirmed that the 1015 will also have the better amp section than the lower models in that line?
BALDheadedGRL 03-30-05, 08:44 AM If its going to be released next month, wouldnt you guys think that they should have released some more specs on it?

Pioneer has always never been good in terms of advertising. With the 1014, so many times, the page was removed and published. Pretty crappy marketing. They had their media release statement back in january regarding the new models that includes 1015. That is it.
i'm obviously a newb, so:
what is the benefit of multiple video inputs on the receiver?....for example, if one's TV had 2 component ins, what would be the benefit of running equipment through the receiver vs. just running straight to the TV?
kbellve 03-30-05, 09:33 AM I use a projector and it is easier to run one set of cables to it, than multiple cables, which is why I wanted a receiver with multiple component inputs. Plus the Pioneer receiver can up convert from S-Video to Component.
Gertjan 03-30-05, 09:33 AM Nubio - The advantage is that you only need to switch one source.
Imagine the scenario where you have a DVD player and a cable box, both outputting component video and digital audio.
If you do as you said, you'd have to switch the TV to a different input to show the desired video signal, but you'd also have to switch the receiver to hear the matching sound.
If you have a video switching receiver, you can leave the TV set to one input, and the receiver will do the switching of both the audio and the video at the same time.
Convenience really...
Ok, I figured it was mostly a convenience issue
kbellve, you mention the pioneer can "up convert". I assume you're talking about the 1015. Can the 1014 do the same? If so, I think that model is all I really need right now

Do we know more about this yet? The big reason to get the 1014 over the lower models is the better amp stage. If the 1015 doesn't have that as well, i will be fine with getting the 1014.

I know that the output has increased to 120 W/Channel for the 1015. You might want to call pioneer directly regarding specs. Not sure about their customer service though.

Not if you want to use HDMI/DVI with one ore more source devices. You will still ahve to switch at the TV.
Fortunately there is an easy solution to that problem. A decent programmble remote. I favor the Pronto myself.
Can u guys comment how 1015 handles DTS for 7.1? as DTS NEO6 or?
DTS ES?

1014 will upconvert composite and S-Video to component.
Juan Nieto 03-30-05, 11:25 AM why I was Interested,w/this unit is its MOSFET amp section vrs their lower units heavy ,THX certified w all of the encoding features + WM9,and a lot Cheaper than the Yamahas I had Bought before, which I still apreciate, now lets see how it performs when I get it
{Godlightsoul} 03-30-05, 12:05 PM I agree- it's all about the MOSFET
Looking forward to hearing 100% for sure if this 1015 has it.
so Juan- you ordered a 1015?

According to AVGuide.com's CES 2005 report (http://www.avguide.com/inthenews/CES_2005/av_receivers.jsp) it is:
Pioneer VSX-1015TX A/V Receiver ($499)
Feature laden and budget priced, Pioneer’s VSX-1015TX is a 7.1-channel, MOSFET-powered 120Wpc AVR that’s THX Select certified and comes complete with auto-calibration and five-band equalization.
That would be good news of course.
Now what i would like to know is if the lower models have the MOSFET as well, or if they have the hybrids. Anybody know?

UMD_Terp 03-30-05, 01:02 PM damn... if I didn't want iLink, I would get this AVR for sure... as it is I need something to go with my 59avi DVD player and would like something with iLink... that only leaves me with the 56txi...

Did you have to negotiate to get the 30$ shipping? B'cos everybody is paying 40$ for it.

Ok. I ordered mine for 460.77$. I was not able to lower the shipping charges but the sales guy lowered the cost by 10$. So it was 419.99 + 40.78$ for shipping.
So, it looks like you can negotiate with JR.com. Nice customer service. Very happy.
Micah008 03-30-05, 07:28 PM I (and everyone else from what I can tell) am trying to figure out the differences between the 1014 and the 1015....
From reading threads, here is the list that I can tell:
- 3rd Component video input (instead of 2)
- THX "Select 2" certified (instead of just "Select")
- THX Music and Game modes (instead of just THX Cinema mode)
- 120W per channel (instead of 110W)
- WM9 decoding
- Blue LED on power button (instead of no LED)
Please add to this if there is anything I missed... or correct me if I am wrong anywhere. (I will update this post if anything is added)
Also, here are some unknowns that would be nice to firm up:
- Is the MCACC any different? (designed for under 100Hz now?)
- Is it now able to use Dolby PLIIx with a DTS source? (Yes, this has been reported to work properly now.)
- Did they add an A/V sync delay? (No, same as 1014.)
- Can the multi-channel input be accessed with the remote?
- Does it work better with Dish receivers?
edit: added extra questions.
edit(again): added answers to questions, that appear later in thread

I doubt if there is any difference. If you look at the Pioneer 2004 A/V brochure on their website, the "Double-Precision 48-bit Motorola DSP" description is also used for the 1014TX.
3 questions:
1. Does it have lip sync correction? This has been asked, but I don't believe I've seen it answered yet.
2. Can the multi-channel input be accessed via remote control (instead of having to get up and manually switch on the front of the receiver).
3. Is the MCACC the same as the 1014 had?
Thanks.

I replied to you at the spot:
Ahhhh, NO. The 815 is not a dumbed-down 1014. The 815 is its own receiver. It is a great value, but it is not at the level of the 1014/1015. A general trend in the industry is to offer more features each year on all the receivers in the product line. Even the entry level receivers are well equiped these days. The manufacturers realize that these features aren't just fluff, and the consumers actually use them, and therefore, expect them to be there.
Some of the spec listings for the 815 online have been incorrect. The 815 is only 100 x 7. Not, 110 x 7.
Tom Grooms 03-31-05, 12:04 PM 100 / 110, zero benefit other than a marketing bullet point on the shelf tag. You were dead on when you said "spec listings"

From what i've been able to piece together, it sounds like the 1015, like the 1014 in its line, is the only one in that line that has the MOSFET, which is what supposedly makes the "big" difference.

sounds too good to be true- like an early April Fools joke...
On a serious note, I and others are eager (understatement) to hear about it.
I would also really like to hear from someone who has the 1014 and is recieving a 1015 so as to have a comparison. that would be very cool.
I am really interested in the 1015. I might get one.
Did anyone figure out how to make use of the wma9 decoder chip yet? That must be for blu-ray or something.
If I only plan to use 5.1 will the receiver divide up the full available power to my 5 speakers? or am I wasting money buying a 7.1 system?
Thanks,
Scott

You know, I was just wondering the same thing.
And I'd like to add, will THX correctly output to a 5.1 setup or does it "need" 6.1 or 7.1?

sbarrier 03-31-05, 09:04 PM Had to go and pick it up at the Fedex hub. I've just now got it installed and somewhat configured. However, I can't really crank it up at this point seeing as I just put the 2 year old to bed. I'll post my observations tomorrow.
Also, here is the tracking info (http://www.onecall.com/Tracking.mpt?AirBill=670860116686&BID=165) for all of you doubters.
sbarrier 03-31-05, 09:06 PM Stunz,
After doing the auto setup with the mic, it correctly recognized that I only had a 5.1 system. Some of the audio formats are not available if you don't have 7.1, but standard DD, DTS, and TXH are available.

audio newbie 04-01-05, 08:26 AM I am too very curious to find out if the 1015 has problem with DD on Dish Network receiver. That was the deal breaker for me on the 1014.
jasplat88 04-01-05, 08:30 AM How does this (and the 1014) compare to the Denon 2805? I'm curious from both a features and sonics perspective.
ADGrant 04-01-05, 10:12 AM How does it compare to the 3805. How much better are the $1000 receivers.
abbot12391 04-01-05, 11:42 AM I too am interested in whether there is lip sync control.
Zzz..oltan! 04-01-05, 12:35 PM Great thread - I think these Pio receivers (1014, 1015) are real gems when it comes to the price/quality ratio.
BTW, could somebody post a BIG picture of the back of the 1015 upon receiving one? After examining the existing pics from the web I am still not sure if I could connect my two additional speakers (located in a separate room) beside the 7.1 setup (located in my Home Theater room).
(I guess this feature would be called multi-room support, with 7.1 + 2 speakers served.)

1014/1015 does not have multi-room support. You can do 7.1 or split into 5.1 + 2 speaker.
For multi-room support, you will need to look at the elite models.

Zzz..oltan! 04-01-05, 02:07 PM indianrider and Big Worms,
Thnxs for the reply to my post. Your answer resulted in a broken deal for me... (And broken dreams... but in a healthier wallet!)
Since then I also researched the issue a little further, and I draw the same conclusion regarding the 1015. But I need a true 7.1 + 2 receiver, and I guess I will just postpone my purchase: I'll wait for the new crop of receivers, supporting the upcoming 7.1 audio formats (implemented on the upcoming HD-DVD and Blue-Ray formats). I guess it will take a year or two until those come out ... :( (Pls PM me if I am missing something...)
I just wanted to enjoy my new 7.1 Acoustech speakers to the fullest ASAP.;) And from my current PIO 912 the 1015 would have been a huuuge step up, no doubt 'bout it!!

- Is the MCACC any different? (designed for under 100Hz now?)
- Is it now able to use Dolby PLIIx with a DTS source? (is this a real issue with 1014?)
- Did they add an A/V sync delay?
- Can the multi-channel input be accessed with the remote?

Dean Prestholt 04-02-05, 09:40 PM Can anyone with the 1015 tell me if the 5.1 inputs are assignable as to which surround speaker they use? I would like to use the SBR and SBL as my surrounds for my DVD-audio player due to the fact that those speakers are full range and they are it the proper location for DVD-A. If they are not assignable then I would have to use my side surrounds which are dipoles and wouldn't make the best speaker for that application.
Thanks

I think you are right... I am waiting to decide if I should return the 1014 I got and upgrade to the 1015...
ambient 04-03-05, 02:16 PM I realize these are a bit under powered(20-100watt) but with the built in electonic crossovers that the pioneer vsx-1015 has and the passive crossover on the speakers itself would the Fluance AV-BP2 Bi-polar speakers be a good choice for all 4 rear surrounds in a 7.1 set up? I just really like the idea of using a small bi-pole as opposed to the large full size towers im using right now for a 5.1 system on a older vsx-d509s. Also have a dual sub set up so I could move one sub to the rear channel to fill in where the Bi-pols left off.
These Speakers are a STEAL at $112canadian a pair!
Any feedback and comments are more than welcome
Is it going to be available in silver (in the US) ?

The cheapest I found is from Vanns (http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/item/features/538525661) for $449.99 (Add To Cart For A Special Price) with free s/h and no tax (ships from Montana).
Here are my questions if someone can help me out:
1. How does this VSX1015TXK compare with the new Onkyo TX-SR603. I can't find any new info on the spec. about this new TX-SR603 from google.
2. What about compares to TX-SR702 or Denon AVR-2805 (both cost alot more money)?
3. What is the "Component Video Bandwidth" for the VSX1015TXK? The VSX1014TXK is 40 MHz.
I think for $450 to get the THX Select 2 is a great deal with good reviews from the owners on the older model VSX1014TXK.
sbarrier 04-03-05, 06:21 PM I've had some time today to sit down and play with the receiver, and it appears that it can do DPL IIx over DTS.
I've been watching the DTS version of Apollo 13 and I can cycle through various surround options while the movie is playing.
DTS + DP IIX Movie or Music are options.
Hope that this answers one of the big questions that several people have.
SoonerCaniac 04-03-05, 06:26 PM sbarrier and others,
When you get the chance, how does the Pioneer stand up when playing music, especially multichannel? I've read elsewhere on this forum that the 1014 wasn't stellar when it came to music and that it was primarily a home theater receiver. I'm wondering if the 1015 improves the 1014's shortcomings or if it still is more of a movie receiver. At this point I'm leaning towards HK because if I had to choose, music quality would be more important to me than movie quality (60-70/40-30).
Thanks,
Josh
sbarrier 04-03-05, 06:30 PM SoonerCaniac,
I can't really comment on multi-channel music seeing as I'm a 98/2 movie guy. I do have a few sample SACD's that came with my DVD/SACD player and they sound great!
Again, I'm not your best judge for music on any receiver. Sorry that I can't be of more assistance.
lawdawg 04-03-05, 06:34 PM sbarrier,
If you get a chance, could you take a look in the manual, and find out if the 1015 has av/sync delay? This allows you to increase the delay of sound, to compensate for lip sync problems which may be introduced by scaling or some HDTV receivers.
Thanks,
sbarrier 04-03-05, 06:57 PM lawdawg,
I've flipped through the manual a couple of times and I've also played around with the OSD and I can't seem to find anything about a lip-sync. I wouldn't swear that it is not a feature, but if it is, I can't see where to adjust it. Sorry I know that this is an important feature for several people.
BTW, why is this so important? Are there that many issues with HD broadcasts in your area?
abbot12391 04-03-05, 08:11 PM sbarrier,
Thanks for taking time to answer questions. Too bad about lip sync delay (in Yamaha manuals it's called a/v delay I think)--that's a deal breaker for me.

This can be a problem when using some external video processors. Some video processors have correction built-in; some don't. Also, I don't have HD, but have heard that it can be a problem there too. The problem is that video processing takes more time than audio processing...especially with higher resolutions and more complicated scaling. Also, some DVDs are poorly authored and have lip sync that is off. And you've surely caught TV shows/movies on TV that are off. For those reasons, being able to correct AV delay is becoming a make or break feature for receivers IMO. Personally, I will NOT be purchasing a 1015 if it indeed doesn't have lip sync correction.

Chad,
What is an "external video processor"?
I plan on running a Comcast HDTV CB directely into a Panasonic Plasma with the audio running into a Yamaha V650 or The Pioneer 1015.
I like the Yamaha for its Lip-Sync feature, but I like the 1015 even more for its THX cert.

I recently bought a DVDO iScan Ultra external video processor. What is it? That can be hard to answer in concise, layman's terms. It's funny you ask that as my folks visited tonight and looking at the DVDO, they asked what the new box is. They are totally NOT into the home theater thing so I didn't even begin to try to explain it to them....too complicated to water down for a non-enthusiast. But I will try to explain here.
My Ultra converts 480i to 480p....and does an awesome job. I have an RPTV that will display 480p natively so that is an important resolution for me. The Ultra's Sil504 chip is known as one of the best deinterlacing chips ever....and the chroma filter DVDO includes is a nice touch to help clean up the ICP error. I bought it mainly for my DVD player, but it will also deinterlace and "spice-up" cable, satellite, laser disc, VCR, etc.......and it can act as a sole video switcher and allows calibration for each source. It also has cool aspect ratio controls.
The Ultra is a simple box compared to other external video processors. DVDO's newest offerings will output and scale other resolutions. They are very nice so one can 1:1 pixel map to their display. i.e. perfectly match their display's native resolution.
That's some basic info. Check out the Video Processor forum here at AVS for more info!

At that price, shipped, it's pretty darn tempting to pull the trigger on this over a 1014. Now i'm just debating if the 1015 is worth the extra $60 or so over the 1014...
I don't care for component video inputs, and the THX Select 2 is mostly aimed at improving gaming in small rooms? Not really what i need either. I just want a receiver to hook up to my HTPC and old VCR, and produce good quality audio output. Hmmm...
i got it from jr.com for 429.99 :) +40.00 shipping
sbarrier 04-04-05, 06:57 AM Gertjan,
For me the deciding factor between the 1014 and 1015 was the 3rd component input. This receiver replaced a 5 year old JVC receiver and I plan on using this one for at least that long. In fact I can see needing more than 3 in that time, but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.
IMHO, it was well worth the additional $60 to give me future protection for several years.
indianrider 04-04-05, 09:27 AM For the 1015, Do I need to buy banana plugs for the speaker wires or will I able to connect the speaker wire loose ends directly?
Gertjan 04-04-05, 09:35 AM sbarrier - Sounds like the 1015 is a good choice for you.
I'm using a CRT projector which takes 5BNC (RGBHV) input, so component switching is kind of moot for me. I use my HTPC to create the output for the projector and switch between sources.
That said, you do make a good point - Whichever one i end up with, it'll replace my 4 year old Kenwood, and there's no telling what kind of equipment i will have in 4 years from now. So more future proofness is always better than less, and for $60, it's not too bad i suppose...
Gertjan 04-04-05, 09:39 AM Question:
Since the 1015 is being spec'd as having more watts output than the 1014, is it safe to assume the 1015's power supply / amp section is different / improved from the 1014? If the amp / power section is newer, that alone would be worth the extra $60 or so i would think...?

hello,
forgive the dumb question...but why would you want to use DPLx2 for a DTS source...? is it bec of the 7.1 or is it bec DPLx2 sounds better than DTS?

I'm really not so sure the 1014 is as close to being a clone of a 52Tx, that a lot of people seem to think it to be. I think that is probably more speculation, than it is a fact.
Ja Phule 04-04-05, 10:03 AM I wouldn't be surprised if the 1015 is rated exactly the same as the 1014 with all channels driven. Perhaps the 120 wpc is for 2 channels driven.
SoonerCaniac 04-04-05, 10:15 AM Sbarrier: thank you for replying to my question. . .after some further research I think I've set my saving limit a little higher so I can afford a receiver like the HK AVR-435, which includes the sync delay for those of you who need it. If any of the new 1015 owners have a preference for music and would like to comment on the 1015's performance, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks,
Josh
{Godlightsoul} 04-04-05, 10:58 AM thank you Sbarrier, for taking the time to share your experience. :)
Even after reading for over an hour, I really don't know if lip synch delay is necessary for me and my x1 PJ.
kbellve 04-04-05, 11:12 AM I was concerned about lip-sync delay, but not anymore. I use a Panny 700 projector and a Pioneer 1014TX, plus a Directv H10. I do not notice any lip sync issues.

How do you guys like the remote from the 1014? Looks like the remote is about same for the 1015.
Jose Garcia 04-04-05, 08:29 PM Hi guys!! Nice thread .
Checking the Pioneer site, I noticed that the 1015 specified as power amplification design "Advanced Direct Energy MOSFET " while the model 815 specified "Thermal Compensation Transistor ". The previous models said " Hybrid".
Could anyone here explain these concepts? I'm practically new to HT and I'm looking for a new receiver to replace my damaged Denon AVR-3200 ...
Which one has an advantage over the other design and how important is this?
I have a few other quaestions related to the Pioneer units but I will ask them eventually as my knowledge progresses...
Thanks in advance:)
Jose.
From a quick download and scan of the owner's manual, it appears there is not delay for lip sync correction. I will not be buying a 1015.
I bought a Pioneer 1014 for $359 plus 6.5% sales tax from Best Buy last week. Absolutely love it. Anyone wants to convince me to return the 1014 and get a 1015 for $449 with free shipping from an authorized online dealer? I don't need a third component input as I use DVI to my Sanyo Z2 from LG 3510. What other new features does the 1015 have?
Jose Garcia 04-04-05, 09:55 PM Chad T, about the "lip sync correction" you have mentioned, I found a good report from Audioholics which explains it.
The article tittle is "Audio Lip Sync - The Next Big Feature?".
Seems to be a real concern and I imaging it like the old karate movies which has the sound coming at different time than the movement on the lips. With some MLB transmissions you can heard the sound of the bat hitting the ball before it reaches the batter....weird!!!
Jose.

abbot12391 04-05-05, 01:11 AM Yeah, I can't understand why they don't include a lip sync when more and more receivers in that price range have it. You can buy a stand alone audio delay unit, but jeez.

Nope. The only elite with 3 component inputs is the 59txi. The 1015 is basically the 1014/52tx with thx select 2, 10 more watts per channel, wma9, and a 3rd component input, it seems.
toddest 04-05-05, 11:51 AM Is this receiver slated to be released in Canada? I called Pioneer Canada and they don't give out any information. They say we don't always carry what Pioneer USA carries.
Thanks!!
I think I'll wait till price drops below $400 shipped.
ambient 04-05-05, 12:13 PM I ordered my 1015 from J&R. I got it in 2 days! Shipping was literally overnight! shipped at 4:58pm and I just recieved it at 11:00am the next day. Paid $505.77us with the shipping to Calgary. Duites and taxes came to just $36.56can
So total after everything came to $655.28can. I HIGHLY suggest J&r as this delivery was simply incredible. Came double boxed too.
If anyone in Calgary is unsure about getting this reciever give me a pm and might be able to set up a viewing at my place for a nominal fee (beer)
Might have to go home sick today to set this beast up!
Is the music listening on this thing really all that bad? I'm really close to pulling the trigger but the complaints on the music listening have me a little bummed out about it.
Somebody say something good about the music please! I know the common response is to listen for myself, but that aint so easy to do.

Jose Garcia 04-05-05, 03:06 PM I need some advise here.
This is my situation:
My previous receiver died. I'm using a totally raw and basic Sony receiver , which is from one of my kids ( 15 ) and it doesn't has video conversion so I'm using a switch box with the system right now...IT SUCKS !!!
Since my Hi-Fi system is on another room and it's a two channel oriented system ( McCormack DNA-125 , McCormack RLD-1, Sony SCD-C2000ES and other stuff...) my main concern with the new receiver is just for video reproduction. The only music I will be hearing is from some DVD Music Videos.
My units are old stuff. Toshiba SD-2108 DVD ( no progressive scam, etc) although I have a Toshiba SD-3960 on my room. I still use a Pioneer CLD-503 , a Cable-TV box and a VCR. My TV set is a 36" Toshiba which has only a Composite/S-Video connection (only one or the other can be used ). My main speakers are Dynaudio Geminis ( which are Dynaudio clones ), a B&W 2000i center and a pair of Wharfedale Sorround speakers.
My living room is 26' by 16' by 15' high and an opening to the right side ( kitchen, etc). It's a very live room because it uses tile floors and construction is cement walls ( I live in PR).
Would I need the extra futures of a Pioneer 1014 or could I go with a Pioneer 815 ? The main future I'm looking is the auto calibration that both uses, the switching capacity , the pre-out ( in case I bought a multi-channel amplifier in a future) and the 100w/c they offer.
Please, let me know what you consider is a best option and/or another receiver I should take a look at.
GRACIAS !!! All.
Jose.

I just set mine up. The music is awesome. It is not as perfect as the Denon 3805 which in my opinion is the best for music but I just love this one too. It is very crisp in stereo mode.
catapult 04-05-05, 03:41 PM Reading the specs carefully, the 1015 appears to have the same amp as the 1014 and the 52Tx even though they rate it 10 watts higher. The 1015 is rated at 120W with 0.2% distortion but, in the fine print (distortion spec) it's 110W with 0.09%. The 1014 and 52Tx are also 110W with 0.09%.
Pffffttttt..... marketers.

I think it is a marketing trick by Pioneer. 1014 and 1015 virtually have the same output.

That's great info to have. I was wondering if the 1015 had the same power supply as the 1014 / 52Tx or if it was something new. We know that the 1014 was great for that. Now we know the 1015 has the same in that department.
And yeah, gotta love that marketing speak ...
Thanks for digging up this info and sharing it with us.
mawst95 04-05-05, 06:57 PM FYI the 1015 seems to have 100mHZ vid bandwidth if that matters
Excellent find. It does have 100 Hz frequency response vs. 40 Hz for the 1014.
what is 100 hz video bandwidth? In what scenario is this useful? How does it compare to 40hz?
I always thought a receiver jsut passed the video signal through and did not touch it in any way.
Micah008 04-05-05, 07:49 PM Here is an updated list of the differences between the 1014 and the 1015....
New Features:
- 3rd Component video input (instead of 2)
- 100Mhz Component Video (instead of 40Mhz)
- THX "Select 2" certified (instead of just "Select")
- New THX Music, Game, and Select2 Cinema modes
- New THX setting for distance between Surround Rear speakers (used with 7.1 only, to help with their new THX processing modes)
- WMA9-Pro decoding
- Optical Inputs are in a different location on the back panel
- Blue LED on power button (instead of no LED)
- Some new setup recommendations from THX in the manual.
Other Notes:
- The advertised 120W per channel (instead of 110W of the 1014) is really just a difference in how the marketing people wrote it up. They are both 0.08% THD at 110 Watts, which probably means they are identical internally.
- There still is not an A/V sync delay feature.
- The remote appears to be unchanged. (No new Multichannel Input button, as has been asked about.)
Questions:
- Is the MCACC any different? (not according to manual, but question still remains about it calibrating frequencies under 100Hz better.)
- Is it now able to use Dolby PLIIx with a DTS source? (Yes, this has been reported to work properly now.)
- Does it work better with Dish receivers? (??)
Please add to this if there is anything I missed... or correct me if I am wrong anywhere.
{Godlightsoul} 04-05-05, 07:54 PM good job, Micah008!
thanks for compiling that into one easy to reference post

Jose Garcia 04-05-05, 08:18 PM The Owners Manual for this unit is on the Pioneer's site . It contains 76 pages and on page-75 are all the Specifications. You can access it from the model information and take a look at the front/back/remote pictures too.
Like Mica008 said, the FR for the Component Video Section is 5Hz to 100Mhz. Composite and S-Video Sectioons are rated to %Hz to 10Mhz.
Audio Section FR is 5Hz to 100Mhz ..
Jose.

I need some advise here.
This is my situation:
GRACIAS !!! All.
Jose.
The 815 (or the 1015) will NOT drive Dynaudio loudspeakers. You need a high current amplifier to get the 4ohm Dyns to boogie.
$0.02
CenterForAnts 04-05-05, 11:23 PM don forget to use your amex to get an extra yr warranty
mawst95 04-05-05, 11:57 PM My visa check card gold also offers that warranty extension.
As does my platinum MasterCard. You might negotiate a hair better deal when NOT using Amex as the fees Amex charges retailers is generally the highest of the big 4 CCs.
Did the previous model did not work with the Dish receivers?
Can someone please tell us if the 1015TX works with the Dish receivers? This is a very bad deal-breaker. Very bad ;)
Belcherwm 04-06-05, 08:17 AM Any conflicts with the Momitsu 880 DVD player's remote as has been noted in the past with Pioneer recievers?
Wow the 1015 looks nice but I took a look at the 915 and the front is just ugly!
TheChef72 04-06-05, 06:40 PM $449.99 Shipped
from vann's ... thanks tvset
will arrive Monday around lunch time at work ... I feel a stomach flu coming on.
;)
gladesteen 04-06-05, 10:01 PM Does the 1015 have any HDMI connection?
I didnt see it listed anywhere ive looked.
TheChef72 04-06-05, 10:11 PM "Does the 1015 have any HDMI connection?"
no, have to hope the 1016 will next year.

The 1014 and 52Tx share the same service manual, available at one of the Pioneer sites (UK site, I believe). This usually means the same major components.
An analogy would be the difference between the Ford Taurus or Mercury Sable, or Ford Escape vs Mercury Mariner vs Mazda Tribute, or similar examples between Chrysler and Dodge variants of the same car, etc. Same platform, powertrain parts and other critical components, but different finishing touches and creature comforts.

Some components, but not all. And that certainly does not make them the same.
Just using the same "platform" for something, does not also make it the same product.
And after 20+ years of working on them at the new car dealer level. I am very well aware of what is different between a Ford branded product when it's compared to a L/M branded product. And even when it moves up to the the Lincoln only level, because then you can start seeing a lot things that are not even used or even available in a Ford or Mercury car or truck.
kirtis_mcleskey 04-07-05, 02:04 PM HEY GUYS , help me make a desicion.
I can tell a difference between my aunts jvc reciever and my reciever,
her reciever produces so much clearer dialouge than mine its rediculous.
right now i have the p;ioneeer vsx-d412 and I was wondering if i woulc be able to tell a major difference in this reciever I have and this 1015,
because Im wanting to update my sound system as I would think it would sound better since its $400 and when I got my d412 , It was only 396 and that was with a home tehater in a box from wal mart

They're also practically the same weight.

Do you two have the exact same speakers?
kirtis_mcleskey 04-07-05, 04:27 PM yes same exact speakers only the cabinet is different
So are the 1015 worth $100 more than the $1014 considering 2 component inputs and 110 WPC is more than enough for my needs?
Rabbler 04-07-05, 10:51 PM I recently upgraded to a 1014 from older Pio 509 receiver. The difference in sound was to say the least dramatic. With the same speakers (4 B&W 601s3's and a LCR60s3) The sound is much clearer and defined. It absoultly woke up my speakers. The 1014 7x110 watts is much much more powerful than the 509's (advertised) 5x100 watts. max SPL was increased without distortion
Unless you need the 3rd component input I see no reason to upgrade to the 1015 at this point. I have no issues with only 40 hz component bandwidth.
I can verify the 1014 and 1015 use the exact same remote part # for those interested
Juan Nieto 04-08-05, 12:47 AM good, but sound quality, how is it,there are new and packed receivers on the horizon, that might be the ones to wait for,I'm still waiting for mine
Soundstage 04-08-05, 05:42 AM We just did 3 days of comparisons between an Onkyo TX-NR901, the 1015 and a Denon 2805 and in almost all cases the Pioneer came in a distant third. On music it was screechy, bright and very flat sounding whereas the Denon and especially the Onkyo were warm, detailed and had much more depth.
For movies there wasn't a huge difference between the three of them with DD and DTS being compressed formats.
After all the good feedback it's gotten here we were quite surprised but it revealed itself to us as merely a good $400 receiver and nothing more. If you listen to a lot of music I'd recommend doing some extensive listening to see if it's suitable. Ours was returned to the store.
toddest 04-08-05, 08:12 AM Who is soundstage? A new member? And dissing pioneer? What kind of tests were done?
Soundstage 04-08-05, 08:21 AM We did 3 days of extensive double blind testing. For movies it was fine but on music very weak.
Micah008 04-08-05, 08:55 AM Could it be that there is a difference between the 1014 and 1015? No idea... just guessing. Remember Soundstage that all of the good feedback here was on the 1014, which you didn't test.

Agreed although I did have a 1014 for a couple weeks and found it bad for music as well, but we didn't do the extensive testing we did with the 1015.
sbarrier 04-08-05, 09:44 AM Soundstage,
Wouldn't a more accurate test have been to pit a Pioneer Elite against the Onkyo and Denon models that you tested seeing as the 1015 is significantly cheaper than the other two?

Certainly but with the consensus that the 1015 is the same as the 52 it puts it into the same price as the 2805 while the Onkyo is more pricey.
