IslandHeightsNJ 02-19-06, 05:31 PM Does the TV's clock when you press info give you good time? Yes
For some reason, I think that tvgos keeps different time.
Do you have your cable split and run into the antenna input? Yes
In your tvgos setup, did you select cable and antenna? Yes
I have an analog TV that can automatically get its clock from the VBI data. It is called EDS (extended data service). This TV allows me to set the EDS channel or let it auto scan. So I changed the clock to manual and changed the data to March. Then I put it back to auto and set the EDS channel to 13. I turned off the TV for 5 minutes. Came back and it was able to get the correct date & time.
Here is my theory. The tvgos may be very slow to scan all of the channels. With the only analog channel with the clock or tvgos data all the way up at chanel 94, it may take a really long time. It probably scans the cable input before the antenna input also. It would also explain the clock not being set for so long because there is no analog VBI clock source until 94 when you have a cable card. I think every time you change your setup, it goes back to rescanning from the lowest channel. If you select antenna only in tvgos, it only has to go to 13.
I have also just tried to delete all channels in the antenna channel list except for 13. I will wait and see if it gets a clock. (select antenna, then the green button to see the antenna channel list).

That worked!. I had the TV off for 5 to 10 minutes.
I came back, the tvgos had a good date/time.
Also, the last vbi searched is 1:0-13 and clcok set channel is 1:0-13.
The previous time I had turned off for 5 to 10 minutes with antenna only it was still searching 1:0-2.
So, I would suggest the following.
Re-setup your tvgos with 11703 zip code, no cable, yes antenna.
In the TV antenna channel lineup, delete all channels except for 13.
You should get a clock in 5 to 10 minutes with TV powered off.
If you do, then by morning (with tv off overnight) you should see a selection for a channel lineup.
I usually select the bottom lineup choice which means it does not match.
Then customize your channel lineup in the tvgos lineup editor.
I think that if this method works, I may go back and try 08753 and see if wnet 13 supports that zip code. It is possible that we did not wait long enough previously.
That should mean you will not have customize the tvgos channel lineup.

Well, I got a host chan on 1:0-13. Problem is that when I went to edit the channel listings it would not let me change any of the channels from AIR to CABLE. I guess tvgos thinks it is smarter than us.
With that, I would suggest the following. Setup for cable only, no antenna.
Before turning off the TV at night, delete all the channels in the TV's channel lineup except for 94. That should speed up the process.

I will try that tonight(cable only, delete all channels except 94)
The Antenna suggestion did not work. No Clock, no channel options. At 7PM last night, zip code 11703, I set up Antenna only, and deleated every channel except 13. I even removed the cable hookup and only had the Antenna hookup. At 7am this morning, nothing was set up. For some reason the VBI channel was 0-6, and the clock was set up to 0-12?!
Tonight I will try the cable only option...I hope that works. This has been extremely annoying. I also called LG to see if something else could be wrong. They are calling back tomorrow.

I forgot that you had an LG. There may be differences there. Because the VBI last scan is still showing 0-6, the LG might not be paying attention to the TV's channel list. I did not delete any channels in my TV's cable channel list, I only deleted the channels in the antenna channel list. It is possible that the LG does not have the same type of configuration. When I set tvgos to antenna only, it started its scan at 1:0-13. If you try what you indicate above (delete all but 94, tel tvgos cable only, no antenna) then you should see the last VBI scan as 0:0-94. This should only take 5 to 10 minutes of the TV being off. If you see it looking at other channels then it is ignoring the LG channel list and you may have to wait several days.
kdog044 02-20-06, 06:11 PM I'm happy to report that I have not lost my edits and have maintained the daily program listings since 01/18. The only change I made was to "lock' the video on the TVGOS as it reset when it changed from the normal HDMI input (I use a cable box also) to the ANT input when I was scrolling through the listings. We'll see how long my luck holds out.

Last night I tried cable only, no antenna, delete all channels in TV channel list except for 13 (I currently have no cable card) and zip code 08753. I was able to get a channel list that matched Comcast of Toms River!. I should be getting a new cable card today and will try again tonight with the same scheme using channel 94.

The cable card was installed today.
When I got home, the Host ID channel had already moved over to 0:0-94.
So, I would talk to LG.
Comcast is not blocking the data and 08753 zip code is supported.
An interesting thing just occurred. I tried to schedule a recording via TVGOS and Symbio (a Discovery channel program) and it wouldn't record. It came up "Cannot Record Copy Right Recording". However, when I tried to manually record it, it worked. Go figure.
den-mitsu 02-22-06, 09:35 PM Been studying the posts in this forum and have found them helpful, although the results were less than desired (namely getting TVGOS to work!)
Mitsu 62827 located in the northen suburbs of Denver - Comcast is the provider, using CableCard.
Here's the facts:
1) TV is set to get the time "automatically" from PBS
2) TVGOS set up as active on the CableCard input with the proper Zip
The results:
1) TV never sets the time
2) TVGOS never downloads
I split the cable to feed the CableCard and the analog input...new set of results:
1) TV time gets set within minutes of tuning to the local PBS station (6 - KRMA)
2) After an evening, TVGOS is requesting cable system to load and will download programming
(interesting side note: on Mitsu, the TVGOS that downloaded on the analog side wasn't available when the input was on the CableCard setting)
Comcast has swapped the card (yet another exercise in frustration).
Talked with Mitsu this morning - no software upgrade available. They suggested I call Motorola to discuss the operational capabilities of their CableCards (note that Motorola don't talk to consumers about CableCards, only their cable company clients can contact them)
I'm guessing that if the time doesn't set via the CableCard input then the chances of getting TVGOS are pretty much nil.
Any collective thoughts on how to get time/TVGOS working with CableCard? Anyone vote for a "broke" Mitsu? Anyone want to join me at the bar, drinking to forget about our technology woes???
Any input appreciated...
IslandHeightsNJ 02-23-06, 06:47 AM I have tried the following and was able to see the tvgos clock set in only 5 to 10 minutes of having the TV off.
If you know what station your tvgos host is at, then disable/delete all channels in the TV's channel list except for that channel number.
Make sure it is the analog version of that channel.
In the Samsung, you could also do the same on the antenna side.
This forces the TV to start its scan on the one and only channel left enabled.
If you do not get a clock there, then there is probably something wrong with your set.
Double check that you are getting the VBI screen by turning on close caption.
The above will also locate a host channel more quickly, but you probably have to wait overnight.

garnerf 02-23-06, 07:38 PM I have a Toshiba 62MX195 just purchased last month. I am using OTA with the input on Antenna 1 as specified in the manual. I have made over 5 calls to Toshiba Customer Service with no fix in sight. Software Version for TV described as: 1.2.4, Aug 26 2005-12:43:26, FW1.69, Sub:54. Any suggestions? Garner

GarnerI assume when you set up the OTA you programmed the ANT input for "antenna" and then did a channel program to let the TV discover the available channels. Do you know what station broadcasts the VBI data? If so, does it show up in the add/delete channel menu? When you check the TVGOS diagnostics does it identify a host channel? If so, is it correct? If not, have you tried removing the channel in the add/delete channel menu and then changing the zip code or performing a TVGOS reset so it will search for a new channel?
Without the TVGOS identifying a host channel, correct or otherwise, you will never get any guide data.
garnerf 02-24-06, 08:16 PM I've tried changing the zip code, unplugging the tv, and most other things listed on this thread. The host channel is not identified. I talked to the engineer of the PBS station transmitting the data and there is no problem on their end. As mentioned, my Panasonic DVD player picks up the Guide perfectly, so the logical conclusion is that there is a problem with Toshiba's hardware/software that remains to be resolved.

Well I had to go back to the Morristown zip code, 08057 , I took out the cable card to get a channel lineup, then i re-inserted it, and i got the choice of 2 cable card lineups...Both are waaaaay wrong but I had no luck with any ocean county zip codes. At least now it works (somewhat). I had to go through and set each channel manually....At least now it works.
Did you ever get the Toms River zip code to recognize a channel lineup?

One thing Toshiba should do is send you the latest S/W, either 1.2.8 or apparently 1.3.0 is now available. Although 1.2.8 was to address TVGOS and Cablecard issues, it may address your issue.
If you're using OTA, there is a possibility that the TV is not able to get a clear enough signal on the PBS host channel. I assume your recorder in the other room is also on OTA?
Tune to the analog PBS channel and turn Closed Captions ON and see if the captioning is coming through clean. That should tell you that the VBI data on the host channel is coming in. Also, is your clock set? In the TVGOS diag screen for Clocks, is the set channel defined?
The only explanation as to why the TV is unable to lock onto a correct Host channel is that it needs to find it. It may just be that the first time TVGOS is enabled it needs to scan all channels before it can lock onto the host channel, but if it finds "potential" host channels it will park there for a while before moving on, so the TV needs to be off for quite a while before it will find the correct host channel. One thing you can do to speed that up is go into your TV's channel map and disable all channels except the analog PBS (Host) channel. Since that is the only channel the TV can scan it should lock onto it quickly overnight and you should at least see the channel lineup in TVGOS the next morning.
garnerf 02-28-06, 07:27 PM Toshiba stated the new software does not address this problem. The recorder shares the same antenna. The clock set channel is identified correctly (Ch. 16 PBS verified host channel for TVGOS) and closed captioning comes in clean on this channel. I have tried disabling all but this channel but it still did not get recognized. Hopefully Toshiba will come through with a fix. I did not buy the TV for this feature but it would be nice if it worked as advertised. Thanks for all the suggestions.

How old is your recorder. It may be using version 7 of the guide. If so the information is transmitted totally separate than that of version 8. You should be able to tell by just looking at the layout and menu options.
Also, when you open up the diagnostic screen, an important item to watch for is the TVG patch showing up. It will be in the first screen on the line that reads:
08.01.53/xx.xx.xx, the x's will identify the patch.
Should be 08.06.XX, if it is zero's, your not getting the signal. If the patch is there, watch the #'s in the reception-slicing. You need to have high #'s in TypeC or CCorr.
Unless you have a high # in the CErrs count in reception-slicing, it is highly unlikely that the TV is causing the issue. You should try and talk to the person at Toshiba that talks to TVG

Please explain the procedure for "remapping". Comcast Atlanta recently went digital so I lost TVGOS that previously worked on analog Channel 8. It appears that Channel 97 has been added (apparently an analog version of PBS) but still not populating TVGOS listing.
On my Panny px500u with cablecard, you can only add or delete channels via menu, not remap. Are you referring to the TVGOS menu for remapping?
Beckeresq 03-02-06, 06:03 AM After buying a Sharp Aquos 45LC-45GD5U (Central New Jersey Cablevision) to "avoid" a box and spending about 6 hours with Sharp representatives who indicated "no problem," the following is Sharp's "unfortunate" response:
Unfortunately the TVGOS feature is unavailable in the NJ area. The reason
behind this is the cable providers in the region (Time Warner, Cablevision
and Comcast) have opted to move their broadcasts to digital only. The TV
Guide signal is only carried over analog signal, specifically on the analog
PBS station. With the loss of this analog PBS signal in certain areas in
the US, TV Guide signal is also lost.
Although some of the Aquos televisions are compatible with the TV Guide
feature, Sharp has no way to control whether or not the TV Guide signal is
broadcast in specific areas. The cable providers have the final say on what
they will broadcast over their lines.
We apologize for any inconvenience this causes.
Thanks!
As I learned (too late) from this Forum, this problem has been around for over a year, known to the industry, but "hidden" from consumers.
Sharp's lawyers and I will apparently be meeting in a New Jersey court to "discuss" their trade practices.

Exactly, (apparently) you must edit the digital channel carrying the the TV Guide data to its analog equivalent (assuming that the analog equivalent does not show up in your TVGOS listings), by using the TVGOS Channel Editor. If your read the posts above, you will see instructions for this procedure. To get you started, here's a quote from a previous post:
"If channel 97 is not showing up in your channel edits it means that Gemstar has not added it to your zip code lineup yet. Until this happens you should edit the digital version of PBS, if like my lineup will be channel 6, and change the tune channel to 97 which may help with your downloads. That's what I had to do until Gemstar got the channel added."
Hope this helps. This is way too confusing and all associated with TVGOS - major electronic manufacturers, Gemstar, the Cable companies - should be ashamed. :(

kdog044 03-02-06, 05:30 PM Anyone else lose their channel edits today? Mine have been maitaining since January 18th and today I noticed they were back to the defaults. I also noticed some new logo icons on some of the channels. Anyone know when those were added? I'm trying to determine if it related to losing the edits. One positive is I had 29 grey entries at the bottom of the guide with no designation for channel or call letters and now it appears they are all digital music channels so the guide now has more of the total lineup. I had been keepng track of the Reception Slicing to see if there is a relation to the number of downloads but stopped after a month so the last entry I have is from 02/18. I noticed that the channel icons changed yesterday and I know they were not changed the day before, so they must have been changed in the update sometime between 2AM and 7PM EST yesterday (3/1). I noticed this change because INHD had no icon in TVGOS before, but now has the INDEMAND icon, as well as some other changes like CSPAN/CSPAN2 and Discovery Health.
I did not lose any edits or notice any problems relating to this change.

I had the same thing happen to me over a month ago and posted it here. I lost my edits at the same time the music channels showed up. I think that if Gemstar updates the line-up for your zip it will cause it to return to the default setting.

I received the following message from Gemstar and it sounds like that is a possibility.
I asked our data engineer about losing edits due to logo changes and he said that is possible that the logo change did undo the edits. We are sorry for causing this grief for you yet again.
The following response is related to the fact that not all of the HD channels show up in a search of the TVGOS using the HD option.
We expect the HD programming problem to be fixed mid March. The original roll out was expected last month, but due to complications, the roll out was pushed out.
jrporter 03-03-06, 01:28 PM Hmmm... I'm not sure what the magic formula is to avoid losing the channel edits, but I haven't lost them in ages now. I got the new logo icons a few days ago, didn't notice exactly when, and then in response to a billing issue Comcast re-initialized my CableCard AGAIN, and I had to reset the TV (Mits 52628). Lost the time until the next update, but the TVGOS channel edits stayed solid.
If they add new channels, will they show up as a new 'On' channel, or do I need to go looking in the channel editor?

I never noticed an HD option, I'll have to look for it, or is it new?
I had to reset my TV last weekend by unplugging it. When I did that. I lost my guide. But the next morning it was back on with all of the edits intact. However, my problem with the TV persited and I had to unplug/reinsert the CableCard. This wiped out the guide totally. Since then I re-edited the line-up, I got the new logos as you guys have mentioned and I started getting channel listings. But I just realized that I didn't get any listings for next Thursday or next Friday???
jumpinjoe 03-05-06, 02:40 PM I had 1.2.8 from Toshiba and it solved many of my TVGOS problems but I still had CC issues. They sent me 1.3.1 and it solved all of my CC issues but now I have no TVGOS. It will not load data and it will not show the time.
Guess I'll start disabling all channels except for the analog PBS station.
Joe
Just to add a little to the current TVGOS stories. I have a Toshiba 42hp95 plasma with a cablecard and TVGOS. The system workd great for 2-1/2 months. Then last month we had 11" of rain in one day here in Tampa Florida. That day there was so much thunder and lightening that I unplugged the TV. I also went away that night for the weekend so the TV was unplugged for over three days. It has never been the same since.
First I had to reset the cablecard and then started adding my edits to TVGOS again. Then three days later I had to reset the cablecard again. I set the channel edits again and it was working fine the past week and a half. Then I noticed the other day that I got the new logos but also noticed that my clock said "--:--". This screwed up recording to the Toshiba Symbio because it uses the clock. Well tonight I hit 'guide' and there still isn't a time but now all the channels are gone!! I'm ready to get the damn cable DVR which I didn't like in the first place.
I went into the System info and his is what I got for version:
08.01.53/08.06.30
Thanks.

I have the same version info you have. The second set of numbers is apparently a software update downloaded to TVGOS at some point.
I had some quirks with my TV, but my TVGOS has been flawless after finding some tips here. One thing that I did after the latest TVGOS update was to perform a full Factory Reset on the TV. My theory is that there may have been some lingering memory corruption in the system. I have not had any related issues since I did that at the end of January.
korbink 03-08-06, 06:55 PM I've read page after page in this forum and I'm still unable to find a solution to my problem. I have a Toshiba 62HMX95 and use a cable card provided by Motorola. I've had the software update (1.3.0) installed for a couple weeks now and I still have not seen any results. My problem is I don't even have a host channel being listed in the diag screen, therefore, not channel data is being loaded and it's not even trying.
I'm not sure what channel is supposed to be my host channel as I'm in Tri-Cities, Washington and nobody around here seems to know, the tech at Charter (my cable company) are, for the most part, dimwits. Toshiba has said they will have a tech contact me but that still hasn't happened and I'm getting quite impatient as I've been waiting on this TVGOS to work for about 4 months.
I've ran fresh out of ideas and would like some new ones. Here' some info I've gathered and fixes I've attempted:
Firmware Update
Hard reset of TV
Changed zip code
Host channel is definitely analog, although I'm not sure which one it is, but all channels 1-99 are analog in my area.
Tried splitter, one to ANT1 input for the cable card, one to ANT2 input for straight cable feed.
Clock is not being set at all.
So I don't know, I'm getting pretty frustrated and I would appreciate if maybe somewhere here could help.
Thanks in advance,
Korbin

Thanks for the reply. I called up Toshiba (after the local cable company said it wasn't their problem, they did try another card they said worked) and they are sending me a firmware upgrade. So I'll see how it goes with that.

goosyou 03-11-06, 08:53 PM I see the same old problems, complaints, etc. I advise anyone who is having problems contact the bbb, state attorney generals office (yur local one, and the one they are based out of) do a charge back on your credit card (credit card companies side with the consumer most of the time), all you have to do is say it does not work as advertised. Maybe even contact the postal authorities. TVGOS with only a handfull of customer support people for millions is just unacceptable in my book. Maybe if enough people do chargebacks after buying products that DONT WORK AS ADVERTISED, the companies will think twice about ripping customers off.

Do you get "Seattle, WA KCTS (PBS) 9 (OTA) " or "Portland, OR KOPB (PBS) 10 (OTA) "
If so, try disabling all the channels in your TV setup except one of those. Put in a zip code from Seattle or Portland. If tvgos does not yet have a good clock, turn off the tv for 5 to 10 minutes, then back on and see if it got a clock from that channel. Also, check for closed caption on that channel. If both work, then leave the TV off overnight that way. If you do not pick up a host channel with that method, then there may be something with the TV. If you do not see closed caption then the cable company may be blocking the VBI data.

jumpinjoe 03-13-06, 03:11 PM For those with Toshiba's you may want to wait before loading firmware v1.3.1
TVGOS will not work with cable but it will with my OTA antenna. Toshiba has had several people complain and they are working on a fix. 1.3.1 was developed to take care of problems with the TV freezing up when using a CC and the upgrade fixed this but created an issue with the TVGOS.

Cablevision does not support TVGOS. They transmit WNET digitally which prevents the guide data from going through. Presently the only way to get the data would be to hook up an OTA antenna to input #2 that can pick up a clear signal from WNET. I have Cablevision of LI and did this and it works fine.

That's good to know. I'm still on 1.2.8 and TVGOS is working fine with my MOT CableCard. But I'm still having the occasional corruption issue where some HD channels (always INHD2) start corrupting bad with some effects also seen on other channels. I confirmed the problem is not the CC since when this happens and I switch inputs to ANT2 (analog cable) I can find some digital channels in the clear that show some corruption. I believe it's either memory or a circuit in the digital tuner that flakes out. The only way to fix it is to power cycle the TV - I don't lose any TVGOS info when I do this but it's still a pain. It seems to happen like clockwork about every 4-6 weeks. I have a service call to have a Tech coming out to look at it.

Thanks for the response. I get KCTS on channel 9 (I don't know about OTA, but through the CC it is either 9 or 10 for sure) and I do get closed captioning. I have tried removing all channels from the lineup except for those and one other that I thought it might be, and still no results. I have not tried a zip code from Seattle however. I will try that and see if it makes a diff.
I'm beginning to suspect that f/w version 1.3.0 may be the issue, I've got a Toshiba tech calling me on the 20th of this month so I'll see if he can resolve anything and let ya know.
Thanks,
We'll on Sunday after about 45 days and 7 million starts I lost my edits. Evidently Gemstar updated my line-up because the next day I noticed a number of new and updated logos (National Geographic, Science channel, several HBO and Encore movie channels and some others).

I installed the 1.3.1 update a little over a 2 weeks ago, and my TVGOS has repopulated with no problems. I am using a CC though, not OTA. I did have to do several resets though.

Is your Cablecard and SA or MOT? I believe the latest S/W was only for SA, but I never got a straight answer from Toshiba.

I had gone a similarly long time without losing my edits as well, and I think I got through a line-up update without losing them, since I saw new logos as well (Comcast with CableCard). But while on vacation my son-in-law managed to wipe out my edits somehow *sigh*. I wish I knew what he did... it almost looked like he might have loaded the non-digital version of the lineup, but he didn't think he'd done anything that drastic. Oh well, it's all fixed now, and worth it to have him check on the place a couple of times while we were gone
steveww48 03-15-06, 01:32 PM I just bought a new TV with built-in TV Guide. It loads listings but I cannot get TV Guide to control my VCR, which is a DVD/VCR combo unit made by Samsung (DVD-V3500).
The G-link cable is installed and the IR wand is properly positioned. I told TV Guide during setup that my VCR was "Samsung" and it tried all the codes but none worked. I then let it try the "optional" codes but none of those worked either. I've tried a few other brands (randomly chosen) in the hope that one of those codes might work, but no luck there. (In principle I could try every brand in the menu but that will take nearly forever since the list is very long and each brand has many codes that will be tried.)
I've called customer support for Samsung and they couldn't help. Nor could LG (the TV manufacturer). I suppose I could call TV Guide support but I cannot find a number for that (do they support end-users?).
Any suggestions? I'm hoping that perhaps someone else out there has this Samsung combo unit and managed to find a code that works? (Of course since you can't enter the code directly, you really need to know which manufacturer to try during setup. Btw, is there some undocumented way to enter a code directly during setup?)
Is it possible that TV Guide just doesn't know about this DVD/VCR combo unit and it flat out won't work?
jstefans 03-15-06, 02:43 PM I've read through the thread and I really enjoy the TVGOS. I'm a non-cable subscriber so I only need the listings for the major networks. Having said that, I do have one glaring issue and have this question:
Has anyone seen channels automatically added to the channel list by TVGOS? I'm talking about the list in the TVGOS-Settings-Channel Settings link. I've heard folks talk about how a couple weeks ago TVGOS added logos for some channels and I saw that too. But I've never seen channels added to that list. My list has 360 channels, of which I only care about several of them.
I already tried a couple different alternatives. First, it's a PBS HD station that I want the listing for. The non-digital channel (which is in the guide) has different programming so remapping isn't an option. Second, I found PBS HD stations for nearby cities on the list and remapped them but their programming is different enough that I frequently attempt to record a specific show I want and it's really another show that I don't care about on my local PBS HD feed. This is very frustrating!
So ultimately, my question is: Has anyone seen channels automatically added to the channel list by TVGOS? Every night I go into that list and go all the way to the bottom only to be dissapointed that it's still the original 360 channels. It's frustrating that I can get program listings for 350 odd stations that I can't even watch but I can't get the listing for my favorite station! For those who care, the station is WILLHD in Champaign. I'd call TVGOS but I'm not sure my plea would go anywhere. But if anyone, anyone at all, has ever seen a station added to the bottom of the list, then I'll feel like there's a chance at some point in the future that the channel (aka the listing) will be added.
Thanks for the replies!
P.S. One thing I haven't tried is going through the original setup and reinputing my zip code. If anyone has found that the list has grown when they've gone through this procedure, please speak up! I'd rather not routinely have to go another 8 days without having my full listings so I haven't been too eager to try that option!

I have noticed that TVGOS will download new channels to the channel list occassionally. My original channel count started at about 364 and I'm now up to 378. The easiest way to check if new channels have been added is to go into the TVGOS Diagnostics screens and check the Memory Screens (last page). It will show you Total channels and On/Auto channels. If the Total Channels increments then you have a new channel in the list.
Keep in mind that for TVGOS does not include listings for all channels. It's strange that the PBS HD would not be in your local list, but that's not impossible.

Thanks for the reply Kdog. Unfortunately, this is not good news, especially since it's coming from you, one of the grandfathers of this whole thread whose been using TVGOS for a long time and knows a heck of a lot about it. No "tv" channel additions in the past year? I suspect we'll have to see Gemstar become a much more mainstream service before they will start performing updates for issues like mine since I'm sure they wouldn't consider my issue critical. If I read it right, the new Panasonic Plasma models will have TVGOS on them? That's a good sign.
Hey, next time you talk to your friend Cheryl over at TVGOS, ask her to hook up a friend in Champaign with a listing for WILLHD. Hey, I had to try! :)

Thanks for the tip! I didn't know I could check it within the diagnostics. Do you know if any of those 14 additions were non-music channels? And were they all added at once?
I guess it's just a hunch on my part but the music channels seem much more of a passive addition than the effort they'd need to do to look into every city to check if any digital tv stations are there that need to be added to the listing. In fact, now that I think about it, there's an independent analog-only station in Champaign that's only about a year old now and it's not in the listing either. Maybe they will do updates once a year or some periodic check like that?
garnerf 03-15-06, 09:00 PM How old is your recorder.
Happy to report TV Guide is now working. I did change the zip code as far as I know, that is the only thing that changed. Thanks everyone.

"Because of bandwidth and server limitations, we cannot provide support for all channels. We provide support depending on the popularity within a given area. As popularity rises for newer stations, it is possible that support for older, existing stations may drop off. We are hoping to add support for a larger number of stations in the future."
I only have a handful of channels that don't show up. Most of them are channels that have been active for a while and there are a few new ones added by Comcast that aren't yet supported.
Old channels not supported:
Oxygen
VH1 Soul
TV One
INHD2
PBSHD2
History International Channel
New channels not supported:
WB-HD
Sprout
Logo
Black Family Channel
Other than INHD2 and WB-HD I don't watch the others so it's not a big deal for me.

I wonder if she meant TNT-HD instead of WB-HD. I have WB-HD in my list, but TNT-HD does not exist, so I mapped the regular TNT listings to the HD channel.
Also, I just noticed that Comcast is now transmitting Universal HD. It's not in TVGOS.
Just noticed a new issue this morning.
When I press the "info" key (Pio 1130-HD) on the remote, everything displays over the ongoing program - except the program title. When I call up the Listing Grid the titles are there, and all appears well.
Did I inadvertenly change a font color or something?
Any thoughts?
LIY :(
Edit: 3/18/06 - For the record, this condition fixed itself on a restart . Of course, no idea what may have caused this to occur.

I have a similar problem although I'm receiving my signal from an OTA antenna. I talked to Toshiba this week and they tell me that KCET (PBS Channel 28 in LA and the source for the TVGOS data) has changed some hardware and the change is causing the problem. Toshiba says they are working with KCET to resolve the problem. He also said they are sending me an upgrade that should help with TVGOS reliability.

My PBS Channel in LA is 94(KCET). First time it happened I called Philips (suggested by TVGOS website)....They said that since it was working at one time ..that it must be a problem with Adelphia/Cable Card....the one tech. said they had no upgrade for me.
Since you are in Northridge & I am in Van Nuys...maybe we have the same problem..

Shaner1 03-22-06, 07:16 AM Does anyone know what the latest firmware version for the 84/94 models is?
I've been having a lot of problems lately...
Sometimes I lose my digital channels, sometimes I lose the analog channels. Lately I've been losing the audio for my digital channels where I have to shut the set off and unplug it. After that happens I usually have to get my channel info again which screws up my DVR until the time is reset. Even then I sometimes I have set my recordings again. This is the part that is really bothering me. I set the recordings to go while I'm not home, if the kids or wife use the TV and it hoses up then I'm screwed.
Toshiba was supposed to have Paul call me back and he never did, this was over a month or 2 ago. I'm going to call them again tomorrow because this is getting to the point where I might use my extended warranty to go about getting this "fixed". Which would probably mean a new set with the same problems.
Anyway, has there been a firmware update for the 84/94 models? The one I currently have is 1.5.8.
Thanks,
Shane

Thanks,
ShaneShane, another poster mentioned a 1.6 version so there may be a newer version than what you and I have, which is 1.5.8. I can tell you that I have had no such issues with 1.5.8. I have the Comcast DVR connected via HDMI and a cable card and experience no problems with any of the channels. I only have one analog channel (PBS channel 97) for TVGOS as Comcast has converted all the channels to digital in my area. They added the analog channel just for TVGOS as they can't work with digital channels as of yet.

kdogg,
I guess it's possible that my channels are all digital as well, I don't know either way. I have Wide Open West and think they are still analog/digital for digital cable. Here's why:
When I lose the digital channels it's channel 200 and above. When I lose the analog of course it's 199 and below. More often then not I lose the digital but there are times when I turn on the set and its on 200 because all the analog channels are gone. Recently though it's been the audio problem.
I was thinking that if it was all digital then I would lose all the channels, that may be a completely uneducated guess but it's all I have. = D
I'm going to call them tomorrow when I get home from work to see what can be done, if there is another firmware update or not. Then if I don't hear back from Paul in a week or so (I've already waited over a month) then I'm going to see what my local dealer will do with the extended warranty I bought.
Does anyone know what the latest firmware version for the 84/94 models is?

I got a call last week from Toshiba saying that there was a new firmware update (1.6.1) that had just been released and they would send it to me. I still have not received it. Its supposed to address certain cable card issues. I don't know if it will fix your problems but it may help. I have been running the experimental software (255.6.1?) since December and have not had any difficulties. I did have a number of problems with the 1.5.8 (Guide wouldn't load; some quirky TV behavior like it would turn off by itself) which is the reason I got the 255.6.1 from someone in this forum and overrode the 1.5.8.

I would definitely be interested in 1.6.1 for my Toshiba HM94. I've been in guide pergatory for a while now -- it worked prior to my upgrade to 1.5.8, but not reliably after. My PBS is assigned analog to channel 97 by Comcast. I've been stuck in a cycle where my TV can identify 97 as the host channel (in both the main status screen and clock-2 as the clock set channel), and will show all the channels in the guide, but never get program listings. Then after about 3 days everything dumps, and it starts searching for host channel again, never finding it, and the clock channel is never set either. I have to go to extraordinary means to get it back, but I only get back to channel listing before dumping again. I take comfort that at least one other person couldn't get 1.5.8 to work for them (but more importantly my CableCard is flawless.)
I haven't yet tried combinations of de-selecting all channels except 97 in the TV program channels menu and/or switching ZIP codes and power cycles. As an experiment, I selected ANT2 as cable and ran my coax into it...in 48 hours I had guide data with listings, for my cable card. Unfortunately, the TVG interface really used ANT2 as the source, so it was useless for surfing to a selection on digital cable. If anybody has a suggestion on a sequence for success to deal with my problem, I'm willing to try just about anything.
Shaner1 03-22-06, 01:59 PM Thanks for the info Jim, I'll ask them to send me that when I call tomorrow. I may even call them tonight if I get time.
These problems are to the point where I turn my set on 30 minutes before a show comes on just in case I have to pop the cablecard in and out. I shouldn't have to do that... Plus we just got HBO to see the Sopranos and it didn't record the other night because the Guide was hosed up after I had to pull the plug to fix the audio. UGH

It is defined in the Clock Set Chan but my host channel indicates channel 3 which is the local WB digital channel. Despite this I have been getting guide data and listings flawlessly for over three months. I did lose my edits once but I think it had something to do with TVGOS when they updated the icons for the channel listings. I tried turning off all the lower channels below 97 and it would never acquire any guide data or find a host channel so I ended up turning them all back on and it found channel 3 and starting working so I just left well enough alone.

ANOTHER UPDATE...WELL IT HAPPENED AGAIN....
2 days past & all my listing & channels (except 42 analog channels) got dumped.
Am I doing something wrong...like not editing them or putting them into a favorite viewing list??
I called adelphia/tech said they would hit the card(big deal)....
This really is becoming a pain in the ***
When I use the search function...it will bring up some program listings...but they are only for a couple days ahead....
The clock is stilling running correctly & the host channel is still recognizedas 94PBS
Any suggestions????

If you go into your diagnostics, check your TypeC to CErrs relationship in the Section Reception - Slicing. If your CErrs is more than about 20% of the TypeC, then it would point to an issue with the data you're receiving.
You could also try an OTA antenna on a separate RF input if you have one and see what the results are from that to help narrow down your issue.
MeSmell 03-22-06, 09:08 PM Cablevision does not support TVGOS. They transmit WNET digitally which prevents the guide data from going through. Presently the only way to get the data would be to hook up an OTA antenna to input #2 that can pick up a clear signal from WNET. I have Cablevision of LI and did this and it works fine.
Cablevision should be transmitting for cable-ready setup. have you tried ?

How about in "Section Reception - VBI Stats", what do you have for:
TotFrTape
2XLines
Gemstar Lines
Enabled Lines
Besides channel 94, where do you get KCET ? In your channel editor for TVGOS, what tune channel is KCET set to ?

I did notice a high number of CErrs in the VBI slice screen after the most recent dump. But I'm not sure if its cause or effect. Perhaps it is somewhat source related. When I was using cable direct on ANT2, it was using channel 2 (local Fox affiliate), not my PBS channel. Because the TV is now in the basement, its difficult to try rabbit ears. But the TV was in the basement and had guide data (with version 1.5.0) before I upgraded to 1.5.8. So I suspect some quirky CableCard interaction, and hope a newer 1.6.x might be the solution.

No..I have not...But I will Try...
Everytime I have lost my line-up.... I would changed the zipcode in TVGOS setup..then change it back to my zipcode....it would always show Host channel 94 in the diagnostic page...and then in 24 hours it would load everthing perfectly....
Then in about 2 days...I would turn the TV on & everything was dumped except the analog channels ..but no listings....I keep repeating this procedure & like clock work it keeps dumping.....
Again..my question is... why does TVGOS load everything perfectly ..then in say 48 hours dump everything
seattlemark 03-24-06, 01:48 AM I have a Cablecard on a Toshiba 42HP95 with Comcast cable in the Seattle area. After several months of having problems with the Motorola cablecard losing/reacquiring the signals of the subscribed channels every few hours, the new cablecard I recently received appears to be working as far as not losing the signals. Comcast also sent some special signals to the card, which may may have made the difference in getting the cablecard to stay working, plus upgrade 1.3.1 was the most recent sent to me by Toshiba.
Unfortunately TVGOS is not pulling in any channel lineup or listings, with it set up as either:
A.) cable (cablecard) on Ant. 1; (Comcast told me that in the Seattle Area their channel 90 is the analog version of their now digital PBS channel 9, so I had hoped this would have worked.)
-or-
B) Cable (cablecard) on Ant. 1 and Antenna on Ant. 2. (in the past this setup had worked, as I can receive channel 9 with rabbit ears, but this was a while ago with the old cablecard and old Toshiba firmware, and maybe before Comcast went digital).
Next I am going to try setting the TVGOS values as : C)nothing on Ant 1 and Antenna on Ant 2 (using the rabbit ears which does fine at picking up closed captions).
If this is able to pull in a TVGOS listings again, I am wondering if the non-OTA Cable Channels will get listed as they had when Option B had worked weeks ago? Also, will I now be able to use the TVGOS to select the non-OTA cablecard channels that are actually on Ant. 1?
Shaner1 03-24-06, 06:32 AM I called Toshiba last night and found out a couple of things. First of all someone had closed my ticket or call log or whatever they call it which is why I never heard back from Paul. Nice...
The second thing was that there is another firmware update which is version 1.6.3. (for my 52HMX94) I know someone mentioned 1.6.1 but evidently there is another after that and it's fairly new because the guy on the phone thought it was still 1.5.8.
I asked to have Paul give me a call so I could explain what was going on as I don't have much faith in the firmware updates anymore.

What is the host channel value in the TVGOS diagnostics? When Comcast changed my analog channel from 6 to 97 I originally had problems getting mine to work. I had to disable channel 6 in the TV's channel edit menu to get it to start working. You may want to try removing channel 9 from your TV's channel edit menu, especially if it is identifying channel 9 as your host channel. Once you do this you will need to change your zip code to a neighboring one and then change it back. The reason you need to do this is once TVGOS decides on a host channel it will not look for a new one. By changing your zip code it wipes out the host channel and forces TVGOS to search for a new one.

Well, by this morning there was a channel lineup, but only for the few channels available to the OTA rabbit ears on Ant. 2. So I just called both Comcast and Toshiba. Then Comcast sent me a signal to somehow allow me to receive the TVGOS (carried on the analog Channel 90 that I was already receiving since the last signal they sent to me. That's kind of odd.). Toshiba said that 1.3.1 is the latest and greatest for the 42HP95, and will be checking back with me in a week or so to see if Comcast's action helped. For tonight, I will need to resetup the TVGOS settings to show Cable on Ant.1 (since that is where the cablecard is). Not sure yet if I will show Antenna on Ant. 2 for my first try tonight.

korbink 03-24-06, 04:09 PM I finally got a call for the Toshiba engineer and we did some troubleshooting and found that my host channel here (TriCities, WA) is supposed to be channel 4 (abc), although my TV is not even finding a host channel. However, after resetting the TVGUIDe info, I found that it still picked up channel 96 as my clock source so removing the channel did no good. Any ideas on how to prevent this from happening. I have read a lot of this forum and haven't seen anyone in the same situation as me.

I'm not sure you want to prevent it from looking at channel 96. The fact that your PBS station is there makes it highly likely that all your lower channels are being digitally simulcasted. If that's the case, and you're using a CableCard (which will use the digital mapping), you would never be able to get the VBI data on the digital version of channel 4, because it wouldn't be there.
If the Toshiba tech is trying to keep the TV from using 96, either he doesn't have the whole story, or doesn't know what he's doing. Or there's something else you haven't posted here.
Most of us having problems are using a CableCard with digital simulcast. If it's finding 96, that's usually a good thing. Now if there is no TVGOS data on the PBS station, then you're probably out of luck. For me personally, I know that my local Fox affiliate (cable channel 2) carries the TVG info (it scans from the lowest channel up, looking for analog VBI data). So if I don't use the CableCard, it locks onto that channel I get guide data without a problem. My PBS station is on 97, but I can't seem to get that channel auto-recognized consistently.

You could try 2 things. First re-enable channel 96 and change your zip code to Seattle. See if you can pick up tvgos data from channel 96. You could also split the RF into your antenna input and set up the tvgos as cable + antenna and see if you can get a host channel on analog channel 4.
HarleyMyler 03-25-06, 11:33 AM I got a call last week from Toshiba saying that there was a new firmware update (1.6.1) that had just been released and they would send it to me.
Does anyone have the 1.6.1 for the 94 series that would email it to me? I have the 1.5.8 and it does turn the set off at strange times, other than that it works ok except for saving channel edits.

Still have not gotten it yet. When I do I will let you know.

seattlemark 03-25-06, 06:11 PM Well, by this morning there was a channel lineup, but only for the few channels available to the OTA rabbit ears on Ant.
Last night I wound up going with just Cable on Ant 1, but I did not have a channel line up this morning in the TVGOS.
I suspect that:
A) 1.3.1 will simply not work for me to get TVGOS with this TV/cablecard/Comcast Seattle from the Ant. 1/cablecard input. At least 1.3.1 seems to be allowing the cablecard to remain stable with the subscribed channels. (With 1.2.8, the cablecard lost signals every few hours, but TVGOS seemed to stay up. But the instablity may have been the fault of the cablecard I had replaced, and/or the reinitialization signal Comcast sent me may have helped get it stable.)
-AND/OR-
B) Somewhow I am not getting the VBI data over analog cable Channel 90 (which does indeed shows up in the TV's (cablecard) channel list as available and Analog.) This is a strange situation because Channel 90 did wind up showing up in the diagnostic screens as the Clock Channel, it just never made it to the status of Host Channel!
So, my next plan for tonight is to set it up as: Cable on Ant. 1 and Antenna (rabbit ears) on Ant. 2. (This had worked a long time ago with 1.2.8, even though the cablecard was unstable back then.) But this time I am going to remove Channel 90 from the TV's channel list. My hope is that it will use the rabbit ears to pull in the TVGOS data off of the analog OTA channel 9. (As it did two nights ago.) By removing Channel 90 from the Ant. 1 side, hopefully after it can't find an analog channel on Cable 1, that it will next try Ant.2. Note: I think I must still show Cable on Ant. 1, or only the few OTA channel will show up that it can pull in with the rabbit ears on Ant. 2 (which is what happened the other night when I did not show Cable on Ant. 1) .
Any other suggestions are certainly welcome. Thanks.
seattlemark 03-26-06, 12:10 AM I have been getting "No Match" when it has been asking me to pick my lineup. If I change Zip codes to a nearby one, does it do a recheck frequently throughout the day and immediately update my list of choices for a new lineup? Or does it only recheck late at night (like during the 3 hour download periods), and make me wait until morning (with the TV turned off overnight) before I can see if it gives me the choice of a real lineup?
ingenue007 03-26-06, 10:12 AM I've had my Samsung HLR for a 2 days. I live in Austin and have the cable split from the wall to my box and to my TV. In set up I choose I have cable via RF with no box attached. First zipcode nothing worked, so I changed to another zipcode (78728). I turned the TV off and on and options to select which source appeared. There were a couple and I choose Duval Digital Two. There were a couple analog sourcess IIRC and duval digital 1 and 2; I had no idea what to choose and just picked it randomly. My listings have appeared correctly and hopefully they will continue so.
korbink 03-27-06, 02:31 PM I'm not sure you want to prevent it from looking at channel 96.
The lower channels (1-99) are all coming in analog. Channel 96 is not my PBS station, my local PBS station is channel 10, we just get 96 here as well which is Seattles (Remember the state of washington is more than just seattle, we're actually nothing even close to what seattle is, thank god.)

Thanks for the recommendation. Currently I have it setup with a splitter but both inputs are configured as cable. I will try setting ANT2 to antenna and see if that makes a difference and let ya know.

I understand -- sorry for the confusion. Although I'm dealing with digital simulcast, you problem is similar to mine, in that there is a TVG host channel available, but the TV just isn't finding it. I'm pinning my hopes on a firmware upgrade. Keep trying the other things suggested here and hopefully something will work. You could also try removing the cable card and changing the ZIP code and see if it will obtain the guide data over 24-48 hours. If it does, you'll know your input is good and there's some weird cable card interaction.
magredc5 03-28-06, 11:53 AM For those with Toshiba's you may want to wait before loading firmware v1.3.1
TVGOS will not work with cable but it will with my OTA antenna. Toshiba has had several people complain and they are working on a fix. 1.3.1 was developed to take care of problems with the TV freezing up when using a CC and the upgrade fixed this but created an issue with the TVGOS.
Joe: Have you heard anything more on this? I saw Mesmell's post that he was not having any issues with 1.3.1 and TVGOS with Cablecard. I have a tech coming out today to load 1.3.1 (long story - see MX Owner's thread) and Toshiba claims there are no known TVGOS issues with this. Let me know if you've heard anything either way.

My Cablecard is working with 1.3.1, but only as far as being stable so that I can continue to view all of the subscribed channels without it having to reaquire signals every few hours. But I have not been able to get TVGOS to work, no matter what I do, if I show Cable on Ant. 1. (which is a must if I want it to ever list any of the cable channels that are coming in via cablecard on Ant. 1.) The only way I can get any listing at all is to show antenna on Ant. 2, but I must NOT simultaneously also show Cable on Ant. 1 or this will not work. (Although that combination used to work with 1.2.8 and my old unstable cablecard). By just configuring it for Ant. 2 only, TVGOS only lists the 4 channels that I can pick up on the rabbit ears on Ant. 2 (This is even more frustrating because Comcast tells me that the analogue PBS channel 90, that I can indeed view with the cablecard, is supposed to be carrying TVGOS.) Toshiba told me yesterday that 1.3.1 is the latest that they have to provide to me, and the service rep. said that they seem to be getting closer to the last version. I am hoping to get a phone call in the next week or so from Toshiba's TVGOS specialist.
Magredc5, please let us know if you get TVGOS working with 1.3.1, and if the cablecard appears stable with your subscribed channels.

Mark - will do. As the tech left my home, I went into TVGOS and it asked me to select a lineup for my area, so it's now waiting to get the time set and initial channel lineup. I'll let you know how it goes.
To all: I had some problems but they appear to be solved. Answer came from someone in this thread who gave the site tvgos(DOT)theabsolutenuts(DOT)com as a reference. It gives solid basic information that I found no where else. Finally what I was seeing made some sense. I bring this to your attention as it verified some of what appears to be speculation here and some of our guesses are invalid. Go there and read the basics first not the forum which is new and has not many posts yet. Combine the understanding you get there with the data found here and the big light bulb will probably come on.
My setup is simple with 42HP95 and OTA only with good reception. But what I saw at this site gave me a lot of thoughts about problems the rest of you are having. It could keep some of you from shooting in the dark and bouncing off the wall. One of a number of things I learned is that it will take at least 6 days to populate as opposed to my books statement " it MAY take up to 8 days". That was more wasted time wandering if it was working or not every day with the partial updates. For those who do not understand the basics of this system this is must reading. I found the AVS Forum and then the the absolutenuts site after I had a power failure and everything was not "PERFECT" LOL!
Hope this helps someone it did me. Thanks again to whoever first posted the site. I did not have to read the entire thread here or go anywhere else once I understood for sure how it worked.

ingenue007 03-28-06, 08:52 PM i added antenna reception to my TGOS. it showed up the very next morning. i think it says may take up to 8 days b/c people may use the tv at certain times when the info is broadcasted. i left mine off at night and it appeared in the morning.

I believe after the first download it just stores the previous DAY8 download on each subsequent day. The downloads work like this:
1st Day = DAY1, DAY2, DAY8
2nd Day = DAY1, DAY2, DAY7, and DAY8
3rd Day = DAY1, DAY2, DAY6, DAY7, and DAY8
4th Day = DAY1, DAY2, DAY5, DAY6, DAY7, and DAY8
5th Day = DAY1, DAY2, DAY4, DAY5, DAY6, DAY7, and DAY8
6th Day = DAY1, DAY2, DAY3, DAY4, DAY5, DAY6, DAY7, and DAY8
I received seine 1.6.3 yesterday (It is only appropriate for Toshiba H, HX, HM and HMX 94 models). It loaded with no problems. Interestingly I didn't lose any listings or TV guide patches. It did reset my channel edits to the default setting. Have not noticed any differences in TV behavior yet.
magredc5 03-30-06, 09:30 AM Well, 1.3.1 so far has prevented my TV from getting the clock signal, let alone TVGOS data after more than 24 hours. After the upgrade, the TVGOS setup info was retained, but no data was received and the clock channel/host channel never got set.
Rather than waiting, I performed a full factory reset last night. As of this morning, the clock is still not set, and I noticed my TVGOS patches are gone, so it will need to reload. If there's no clock by the time I get home, I'm calling Toshiba to complain. According to them, 1.3.1 wasn't even applicable to my TV problems (maybe it will address that, but who knows) and when I raised my concerns about the TVGOS problems with 1.3.1 the rep claimed there were no known problems, even though it was posted here that there were and there's supposed to be a new S/W release coming out.

Having similar problems here. Installed 1.3.1 on my 46HM95 last Friday and have yet to get actual TVGOS listings. I've been prompted for which system to download info, but have yet to get the listings. I reset the TVGOS system last night to see if it fixes any of these issues.
I've been sceptical about getting a CableCARD installed on this set, and this is only making me push the idea back more and more.

Let us know if you at least get the clock to set. When TVGOS is reset, the first thing it's supposed to do to find a valid host channel is scan for a clock set channel (both are usually the same channel). If it doesn't find a clock set channel it will never receive TVGOS data.
stoneyb 03-30-06, 11:00 AM I also lost TVGOS on my 72MX195 when I updated to 1.3.1 on Tuesday. Toshiba has been no help in resolving this, and says it'll be two weeks before they get back to me. This makes the AVHD rather useless. Is there anything I can do?
I'm using Comcast in Mass. with a Cablecard.

Magredc5, it is news to me that a new S/W version subsequent to 1.3.1 is supposed to be coming out. That is not what I was told by Toshiba by the general service rep. Hopefully Toshiba's TVGOS specialist will call me next week as they keep indicating. In the meantime, I still do not have any TVGOS channel lineup or listings with 1.3.1 when I show that there is a Cable (hence the cablecard) installed on Ant. 1. My only fear is that if 1.3.1 is eventually upgraded on my set, the cablecard will be unstable again as far as constantly having to reacquire the subscribed channels. (Although, I have no way to know if 1.3.1 was what fixed that problem, since almost simultaneously, Comcast gave me a new cablecard and sent me some signals). If given the choice, I definitely would rather have all stable channels that remain on for more than 1 hour, over a working TVGOS. :-)

Good news here... as of tonight the TV Guide has populated itself! I'm very happy, and I hope it keeps downloading the program data. I didn't go and check days ahead to see how much it downloaded. I'm just happy it did. I'm running 1.3.1 on my 46HM95 on the Cablevision system.
Right now I'm not sure if the data is coming via CV or the OTA Antenna I have. I'll check over the weekend and let ya'll know.

What is the "patch" people have been referring to?
magredc5 03-30-06, 11:28 PM What is the "patch" people have been referring to?
In TVGOS in the SYSTEM INFO screen, you will see the S/W version, something like
08.01.53/00.00.00/.00.00.00/.....
Gemstar will transmit TVGOS updates/patches over the air and eventually your TV will update with it. The display will change to something like
08.01.53/01.30.26/.00.00.00/..... where the first set of 0's are now digits.
These updates are apparently to fix TVGOS application issues, such as fixing bugs in the channel setup screen (i.e., reordering of channels).
magredc5 03-30-06, 11:33 PM Well I called Toshiba tonight since I still had no clock or TVGOS activity.
When I indicated that I was aware of others that had TVGOS issues with 1.3.1, the rep claimed he was not aware of any issues. I informed him about the way users are sharing this information, that the issues were reported initially about a month ago, and if I spoke to Nate or Paul about this they would confirm there are indeed problems being reported. He did admit at that time that they are working with many customers on related issues.
So I am now on the waiting list to speak to Nate or Paul (3-5 days), but I'm really kind of pissed that I was working fine on 1.2.8 and they pushed 1.3.1 on me without any indication that it could resolve the other tuner corruption issue I'm having every 3-5 weeks.
Let's see where this goes.

I upgraded to 1.6.3, courtesy of Jim777. CableCard still working, with channel mappings and OSD channel ID's (like WTXF) surviving the upgrade. I got prompted to select my Comcast TVG listing. Unfortunately no TVG activity (didn't have it before upgrade). Still not finding clock channel ("--:--"). Analog 97 enabled in channel listings (digital simulcast). Tried changing the ZIP code, and as of last night it wasn't even attempting to search for a clock channel (0:0-0). Using only cable on ANT1. Basically very similar to what the HM95 people are seeing with 1.3.1 (or even 1.3.0). Seems like a chicken/egg problem. Once you get it working, you're okay. But it's like there's some sort of bootstrap needed in the beginning.
I have to decide what my next step is. A TVGOS reset, TV hardware reset, or connecting something to ANT2. I'm wondering if I have some bad config data in non-volative memory which needs to be wiped. Do either resets wipe the loaded patches?
Out of curiosity, do we have any idea if there's a functional correlation between the 94 and 95 firmware (1.6.3/1.3.1) as far as TVGOS is concerned? Are the HM95 people with problems on cable systems with digital simulcasts?

If channel 97 doesn't show up in the listing you can edit the digital one and change the channel to 97 and see what happens. Until Comcast updated my guide data that's what I had to do. Another thing you can try is to tune to channel 97 and leave it on that channel when you turn the set off to get data.

Another thing you can try is to tune to channel 97 and leave it on that channel when you turn the set off to get data.
That's part of the catch-22 that has me stumped. I don't show any channel listing in TVG, so I have nothing to edit. If I change to channel 97, the OSD identifies it by its callsign 'WHYY', so I believe it's in the listing, if it ever displays. Judging by the way it behaves, I guess the TVG software doesn't display old channel listing until after it as re-acquired a host channel and verifies it.
Makes me wonder if I have stale data someplace which needs to be purged. I'll try leaving the set on 97 first. Perhaps that will kickstart it. Do you have two entries in your list for both analog and digital? A while back I edited my lineup by redefining the ANT2 "antenna" channel 12 over to ANT1 "cable" (when I had ANT2 active, I don't at present). Maybe that screwed things up and caused my 3 day dump cycle.
Interested to know which Cablevision system you are on. I can only get my data OTA. Last week when I had to disconnect my OTA hook-up for 2 days my downloads stopped. This is even though the clock set chan was shown as (1-13) which is cable WNET. No one has been able to explain this. (Incidentally my host chan is 1-2, cable WCBS, which doesn't broadcast the TV Guide data). It's all very strange. Nevertheless, once my OTA is hooked up I receive my downloads like clockwork. And nothing about this has changed since the 1.6.3 upgrade.
RICKSRIBS 03-31-06, 03:27 PM In TVGOS in the SYSTEM INFO screen, you will see the S/W version, something like
08.01.53/00.00.00/.00.00.00/.....
After endless frustrating days ..TVGOS is slowing again populating.....
My S/W.....08.01.57/00.00.00..A bunch more zero's....ending with /201/0000......
I am using a cablecard w/Adelphia in Los Angeles...My Host Channel is 94...no matter how many times I try to change it ..it always ends up at 94........
QUESTION....Who do you contact to get...updates/patches???.......Adelphia, Philips, TVGOS or Gemstar??

Patches are transmitted by Gemstar over the host channel. You can't do anything to force it to happen, it will download in it's own time.

Following up on my earlier post...patience is the watch word. After my upgrade to 1.6.3, last night I had changed to a neighboring ZIP code, and check back an hour later with no clock set and the clock set channel still on "0:0-0". 24 hours later, the clock time is set correctly and the channel identified as 97 in the clock-2 screen. Host channel is not yet identified, but I expect it will in due time, and also no channel listing yet.
Well I called Toshiba tonight since I still had no clock or TVGOS activity.
Don't know if this will be helpful or not but I had a similar problem last November when I loaded the 1.5.8 software for the 94 models. After factory resetting 3 times I still couldn't get the TV guide data to download properly. TV Guide patches would eventually download after about 3 or 4 days, but I got an incomplete channel line up, no listings and kept losing my clock set. The TV also exhibited quirky behavior by turning itself off or preventing me from turning it on. Most others didn't have any problems leading me to believe that it may have had something to do with my cable service (Cablevision) and/or my Cablecard (NDS) and the interaction with the new software. Toshiba had no clue, nor did Gemstar. I tried to reload the previous software 1.5.1 (which worked fine) unsuccessfully. You can't go back. However, I was able to get Toshiba test software (255.6.1) from Jeff which overrode the 1.5.8. You had to keep the memory card in the TV or it would revert to the 1.5.8. That worked.

Unfortunately Gemstar stopped dealing directly with consumers back in December. Previously, for certain Guide problems Toshiba referred them to Gemstar and one of their Technical Service reps would call to try to resolve. However, they changed this policy as eventually most problems became manufacturer related and Gemstar could not resolve them. They have stayed in touch with with some of us who had previously had problems, however, my contact Josue has since left the company. Kdog is probably the only one who still has a contact there. If you call their number today it will simply tell you to call your manufacturer.
After upgrading to the 1.6.3 from the test software 255.6.1 (prototype of 1.5.8?) 2 minor problems have been resolved that may have been unique to my cablecard (NDS for Cablevision):
1) I can now stop a Symbio recording using the remote. Before I had to go into the Guide menu.
2) I can now turn off blocked channels in the editor. Previously if I tried to turn off a channel I did not subscribe to, the screen locked and I was knocked out of the Guide menu.
I don't think others were reporting these problems, which leads me to believe that part of the upgrade was related to my specific cablecard.
I don't believe it resolved the loss of channel edits problem. I did lose my edits when I exited Symbio via the Guide menu. However, I did not test a power loss which in the past would also cause a channel lineup reset.

I receive the TVGOS data over the Philadelphia FOX Channel 29. This is sent over Analog Cable Channel 5 by my Cable System (RCN). If you don't receive FOX 29 as an analog channel, you should try using a simple UHF antenna to receive FOX 29 over the air.

The TVGOS reset would be the next thing to try with a complete TV reset the last option. I have had to do a complete TV reset (not TVGOS reset) before so that would be a last resort option. Just make sure you copy down all your video settings first as those are wiped out with a complete reset.
Shaner1 04-03-06, 08:19 AM I installed 1.6.3 on Friday and it seems to have solved my biggest problem which was losing the audio on the digital channels while the set was off. I was also having a problem where the cablecard would lose the channel info and I'd get only analog or only digital channels. So far it seems this latest update has fixed all of that.
It does come with a small problem but I can live with it. There are times when I tune to a digital channel and it acts as if the signal isn't strong enough and the channel is coming in and out. If I turn the set off and right back on that seems to solve the problem.
This will be my first week of recordings with the DVR through TVGOS so I'll see how that goes but I'm happy that the audio and channel loss problem seems to have gone away.
Shaner1 04-03-06, 03:00 PM Well, maybe everything isn't so great. I just lost my listings today. I had them this morning and the TV was on the entire time. The only thing I did besides change channels was change inputs to play some Xbox 360.
I'll see how this goes but hopefully I didn't swap one problem for another in regards to recording with TVGOS and the DVR.
Who is legally responsible - is it Toshiba or Gemstar if Toshiba can't fix the TVGuide issues in a reasonable amount of time. My TVGuide has never worked and Toshiba doesn't have a fix even after two months. Everytime I call them, all I get is we are looking into it. I'm totally frustrated and I would like know what my legal options are as a consumer.

Monday 4/3/2006... Again TVGOS dumped all my "todays" program listings...after 6 days of watching it populate in a weird order...I went away for the weekend.....48 hours(8 days Total) ...I came home last night and all my program listings were there (especially Sunday night) line-up....
Then this morning they were gone....If I scroll thru the hours...it starts to pick up program listings for Wed. but not on all the channel listings...
Then if I use the "Search" function---Movies----All...it lists some movies starting on Tuesday.....but not on all the channels....
I dont use/want any kind of recording device.....I just want to know what is on TV on any given day/night...Like using a weekly TV Guide Magazine!!
I check on a regular basis ...TVGOS diagonistic pages.... I get the host channel-- the clock-- Etc, Etc,
I am Stumped!!

I may totally off but the way I see it Toshiba & other manufacturers have partnered with Gemstar to supply us with the TVGOS. Toshiba and the others don't have much to do with it working or not working. The only thing they can do is to put pressure on Gemstar to correct issues or threaten to drop their software in upcoming models.

I would have to say that Gemstar is responsible in the end. Toshiba showed me in my manual where they print that the TVGOS is not guaranteed to work and that Toshiba is not liable for it's functionality. Unfortunately, Toshiba's support personnel are the only one's offering assistance of any kind.

It sounds like your TVGOS is getting confused possibly due to the host channel not being correctly mapped. Don't know if you've already checked this but it may help if you haven't.
From your TVGOS Diagnostics, you know what your Host Channel is, let's say it's 1:0-99 (channel 99). I should be the same for your clock channel, but may not be.
Now tune to that channel (i.e. 99) and verify what the call sign is. Let's say channel 99 is PBS WXYZ.
Now go into TVGOS and go to the channel editor (SETUP -> CHANGE CHANNEL DISPLAY). Look through the Channel Editor list and find the station call sign, i.e. WXYZ. Now look across that entry's row at what channel it is assigned to. Is it correct, i.e. 99? If not, edit the tune-to channel to the correct number.
In my case, it wasn't correctly mapped, i.e. instead of 99 in the tune to, it was 97. My theory is that once TVGOS finds the host channel, it still looks through the lineup and if it knows that WXYZ is supposed to be the correct host channel in your area, it may try to reset it's host channel to what it downloaded, even if it's incorrect.
This is also the case if your cable company recently converted it's analog channels to digital so your host channel WXYZ is mapped to the old analog channel number, but that channel is now digital. The cable company will usually transmit a new analog channel higher up in the channel list, but TVGOS may not have the new channel in it's channel list so WXYZ needs to be remapped.
Hope this helps.
Edit: Just checked your prior posts and it looks like you were going down this path, but not sure if you made the correct changes. Also check your TV's channel map (not TVGOS, but the TV) and verify what analog channels you have, and whether your channel 94 is one of them.

If the disclaimer is already in the manual, I guess, we are SOL.
My cable company is Advanced Broaband (Toll Brothers Cable), Ashburn, VA 20147. The signal is through the onboard ATSC tuner.
TVGuide is one of the features that attracted me to this TV in the first place and it is not working
Shaner1 04-04-06, 11:49 AM My listings are back this morning, it's populated through Friday with a few channels missing info here and there. I went to set the recording for Lost and of course it was one of the channels that wasn't populated yet but I'm sure it will be by tonight or tomorrow.
For some reason my downloads didn't complete Saturday and Sunday night, hence Sunday the 9th and Monday the 10th show no listings. However last night they did complete and Tues the 11th is fully populated. I'm not sure if this is related to the new 1.6.3 software or if Gemstar had a problem uploading their data those two nights. I know that there have been instances in the past where Gemstar was late in uploading its data so the 2:20 am download time was missed. Not sure if this was a similar problem but missed all the times.

This raises an issue I've been curious about, which could explain my continuing problems. Both the digital and analog versions of my PBS channel (12 and 97) display the call sign "WHYY" in the OSD. Is this normal, and if not, will this confuse TVG? It could explain why I was stuck in a 3 day cycle of dumping. When I had ANT2 activated in TVG months ago, I may have redefined the ANT2 listing of WHYY to ANT1 to cause this.
I've noticed since upgrading to 1.6.3 that the clock channel is not always set to 97 (according to the clock-2 screen). It hasn't yet identified a host channel, so I don't have any TVG channel listings to edit. A possible explanation would be that it ping-pongs between using 12 and 97 for VBI info (because both are WHYY), but this is pure speculation at this point.

Do not apply any new Toshiba updates you receive in the mail, unless you can definitively determine your problem is a CableCard issue. Otherwise the software updates will prevent your tv from producing ANY TVGOS.
When I spoke with Nate at Toshiba, he acknowledged that folks are calling back stating that since they applied the new firmware updates, they are worse off than before.
The worst part is you can not go back to the original software, so you will have to live without TVGOS.
I'm in the process of having my tv replaced (under warranty).

Not necessarily... I just updated my TV a couple weeks ago with 1.3.1 (it's a 46HM95). After wrangling with it for a week, it has now begun to update and the program listings have populated.

Well I sure hope you are right.
I waited for 6 weeks for the first upgrade to work to no avail, and I've waited a week so far for this second one. I haven't even gotten a clock yet.
How long did it take before you got a clock?
I'm in the exact same boat, as far as I know they aren't even planning on calling me back, all I get is "We're working on it, sorry."
I'm giving it one last shot. (wait 2 more weeks, says Toshiba). IF nothing, I've got it under warranty and I'll have the store replace it. If for some reason they won't, I'll call AMEX and have them take care of it for me.

It took about 5-6 days. Initially, it picked up the clock and prompted me which system I wanted to download listings for, but nothing happened after that. I finally did a reset of the TVGOS, and went through the setup again. If you'd like to know how to do the tvgos reset, check out this website (http://tvgos.theabsolutenuts.com/)

My digital PBS 12 was before and continued to be unchecked after the 1.6.3. upgrade. I think I'll give it a couple more days, then try a TVGOS reset as Phreshness indicated worked for him. (His situation sounds similar to mine.)

1.4.5
1.5.0

1.5.2
1.5.5
1.5.8
1.6.3
Perhaps the problem is with the 95 series sets and the associated firmware.
Shaner1 04-05-06, 12:50 PM Come on Kdogg, you know you just update for the free SD memory card. Oh wait, that's what I'm doing.... ;) Especially now that the last 2 have been 128megs! They fit nicely into my digital camera. :p
1.6.3 seems to have helped. I'm still having the random problem where I switch from one digital channel to another. It's like the TV is trying to display both channels as the pictures looks as if it's displaying part of both... of cours in small blocks of the picture all jumbled up. The fix is to turn it off then right back on. Or I can go to an analog channel then back to the digital, that usually works and is what I prefer to do.
stoneyb 04-06-06, 12:57 PM On Weds. I tried splitting the cable and feeding it into both ant inputs on my 72MX195. I set up TVGOS with cable on ANT 2. This morning, for the first time since I upgraded to 1.3.1, I had listings! Unfortunately, they were all set so that clicking on one switched to ANT 2, which meant I had no HD channels. However, this is encouraging.
I've re-done the TVGOS setup to tell it that ANT 2 is an antenna. Perhaps now it will let me click on channels and have them come through the cable card. With two inputs labeled "cable", it wasn't possible to tell from a channel in the TVGOS channel setup where it was. Presumably, I can set the ones I care about to "cable".
Has anyone had success with this method? Is there a better way to set it up?

Stoneyb, when you did this each time, did you set anything for Ant. 1?
stoneyb 04-06-06, 02:33 PM Stoneyb, when you did this each time, did you set anything for Ant. 1?
I haven't seen the results of the 2nd try yet, but the first time, the TV itself listed "cable" for both ant 1 and ant 2. I think this made the listings indistinguishable between ant 1 and ant 2, since the field with that info just says "cable". I expect to find the field switching between "cable" and "antenna" when the listings show up again. (Making this last change erased all the listings.)
So, the TV was told that "cable" was on ant 1, and TVGOS was told that "cable" was on ant 2. The TV merged that info to show "cable" on both inputs. Now, the TV thinks that "cable" is on ant 1, and "antenna" is on ant 2. We'll see if that works.
Floundering 04-07-06, 10:12 AM Hi,
I've been having the TOGOS problems everyone is talking about. In my case I do not have the channel lineup. I need to know how to do a cable card reboot.
I have a Toshiba 62HM95 with a cable card from Comcast. Interestingly, I got a channel line up immediately when Comcast came out and replaced the cable card. As soon as I turned the TV off, it disappeared. According to Nate at Toshiba this is expected. I have to tell TVGOS that the PBS channel is 97 (the analog one). But I don't have a channel line up so I can't access the menu to re-tune the channel.
So I'm at the point where I need to get the channel line up back. The last time a Comcast rep was here he had an infrared device that he pointed at the TV and caused a reset. The channel lineup and time appeared immediately. I asked him what he did and he said he made the cable card reboot.
I've tried tons of things, including removing the cable card from the set. I tried rabbit ears for OTA but I'm too far away to get a signal from PBS.
/rant on
I explained all of this to Comcast and asked for the same tech to come back. They replied that they wouldn't guarantee who would come out and I would be charged for the visit since it's a TV issue. The Comcast rep was intransigent and not helpful. I asked her several times to tell me what the tech did when he was here and she said he tightened something in the back of the TV. She said if he had a device it was a TV remote. I also told her that I was missing digital channels and she didn't bother to fix them.
I don't find Toshiba to be any better. I put in a call and it took 2 weeks for Nate to call back. He had me do a TVGOS reset, told me to wait 2 days, and when the channels appeared to do a PBS re-tune. I called back after 2 days and no channel lineup. The new rep wouldn't let me talk to Nate. He asked me if I did the PBS re-tune and I told him that I can't get a channel line up. He told me that Nate would need to continue to research the problem. Whereupon I told him that Toshiba has been experiencing this problem for over a year, there are many customers that have the problem, by this point he should have a laundry list of the length of his arm that should be tried with the customer to get it working. I told him that I expected a call right away, that I would not wait another 2 weeks.
It's been 2 weeks and Nate hasn't bothered to call.

How are you supposed to tell TVGOS that PBS is 97? Using the TVGOS channel editor? That would be a catch-22.
My assumption is that TVGOS scans all the analog channels, looking for the VBI signal, but your message suggests that it looks for a channel with the WGBH designation. Do you know which is correct?
Hi,
I've been having the TOGOS problems everyone is talking about.

My friend I can assure you that you are not alone in this. I'm in the same boat as you are. Trying to fix the friggin TVGOS for the past two months.
They know that they have a major problem on their hands and are simply trying to buy more time by ignoring us and/or wishing that we would get fed up and stop calling them eventually. I wish they were more forthcoming with this issue.
What gets my goat, more than the issue itself, is their total "I-Couldn't-Careless" attitude. They simply don't care to call us back and update us.
We should do something about it we can't simply let them get away with our hard earned money. Any ideas?
Floundering 04-07-06, 11:16 AM stoneyb,
If it scans all of the analog channels it should have found the VBI info a long time ago, correct? There's only 1 analog channel and that's 97. I don't know what it's supposed to be looking for beyond VBI. I didn't mean to imply that it's searching for WGBH. In my area WGBH carries the VBI data and Comcast broadcasts that analog signal on channel 97. Leaving the TV on 97 doesn't help.
Per my experience I think the scan only kicks in when certain conditions arise and the only way I've seen that happen is when Comcast techs come into my home and do something with the cable card. When it scans, it works.
seyak,
The only things I could think to do is to bring a lawsuit or write software to replace TV GOS. It was a federal mandate for cable cards to be created and distributed. I doubt though that TVGOS would be included under it. If we could prove that the cable cards are defective or intentionally troublesome we might stand a chance but the channels come in loud and clear and that's more important than TVGOS.
Writing software is not rocket science. There's a steep learning curve at the beginning. It would be easy to get a computer TV tuner and learn to capture the VBI data. It would be hard to learn about the TV environment such as what BIOS services are available, what language, how to interact with BIOS, how to compile code, how to load software. Once a programmer knows all of that it's simple to decode a little bit of data and display it.
So why haven't they (the experts) fixed it by now? Money? The lack of commitment by companies involved says to me that they have a better solution in the works or expect everyone to move to a different solution (ie Tivo). Will Gemstar be out of this business in 2010?
You're right. Their lack of forthrightness is what is frustrating.
magredc5 04-07-06, 03:59 PM There are some things to consider in this latest issue with 1.3.1. Some people have never been able to get TVGOS to work reliably or at all, and some have not been able to get it to work since 1.3.1 and it was working fine previously.
I'm in the second camp. I was supposed to get a call from Nate in 3-5 business days - it's now been 7. I've been travelling so when I get home on Monday night we'll see if leaving the TV off for several days has done anything. My problem is the clock has not sync'd up so far which is BS. They broke something in 1.3.1. If the clock is at least not updated on Monday, I'm escalating to a manager on Tuesday. I've already starting documenting my calls and at this point will not stop until they fix the problem or take the set back.

Have you tried splitting the cable into both inputs (assuming that you have a cable card)?
My clock is running now. I realized this morning that I'd forgotten to scan for channels when I changed ant 2 to antenna (from cable), so I forgive it for not finding listings, but it found a clock channel, and it had IDs on the channels now, just no listings. I'll know Sat. morning whether scanning the channels has fixed it, but I'm optimistic.
This smells like a problem with the cable card interaction, since that's what the update was supposed to fix.
For those who may not be aware there is some very helpful information on how TVGOS works as well as troubleshooting tips at: http://tvgos.theabsolutenuts.com/

I have the cable split with analog coming in on ANT2, but have not tried setting up TVGOS on ANT2. If I do that to at least get the clock sync'd, would I then be able to reset to ANT1 for listings, since that's the source of my content?
I had a message from Chad today - I'll call him back tomorrow. I was flying home from my trip, and still no clock after TV was off for 4 days straight.
After applying the 1.3.1 update to my Toshiba 42HP95 tv a few weeks ago I've had no problems with the TVGOS.
But a friend of mine recently picked up the new model plasma (42HP66) and gone are the cablecard and firewire ports. Wonder if Toshiba has thrown in the towel with the guide listings with the new models.

Called Toshiba first thing this morning - still waiting for a call back from Chad. The front line Customer Service Rep does not know anything about the issues nor plans for any fixes. I'm really starting to get annoyed with the drawn-out delays in getting support on this. In the 2 weeks since 1.3.1 blew my TVGOS away and prevented the clock from sync'ing, I've tried:
- TVGOS Reset (653214741) several times.
- TVGOS Setup Reset (enter 00000 for zip, then correct zip) several times.
- TV Power Reset (pull the plug).
- Full Factory Reset.
I'm pissed that they forced me to upgrade to 1.3.1 before they would even look into the minor occasional problem I was having, even after I voiced my concerns about 1.3.1 breaking TVGOS.
Don't get me wrong, I really love this TV and Toshiba has provided good service in the past, but the situation they've created needs some focused efforts to satisfy me. Waiting 2+ weeks to even talk to a live support engineer (which I also am) is not helping. :(

Now is this conflicting reports or what? I own a Toshiba 52HMX95 and have had TVGOS issues since day one. I've eagerly awaited each new firmware release hoping for a working TVGOS. I updated my firmware to version 1.3.1 just a few weeks ago and so far all is well. The system has held all of my edits and has quit reaquiring channel info. The only issue I have is my system does not disply prgramming info for my new PBS HD channel. It simply shows no info to display or something to that effect. I've often thought about telling the TVGOS to reset and blah blah blah... but I'm afraid to do so in fear of losing al that is good now.

All I know is my TVGOS was working fine with 1.2.4 and without hiccups after upgrading to 1.2.8. Since upgrading to 1.3.1, no clock hence no TVGOS. This is basic functionality before any TVGOS data can even begin to download.

At this point, I have clock and station IDs, but no listings. I've tried every combination of settings I can think of, but I get listings only when I tell TVGOS that CABLE is on ANT 2. Unfortunately, the listings I get are capable of switching only to the analog channels on ANT 2. I was unable to edit them to make them invoke the "real" cable channels on ANT 1.
I have been running with TVGOS set for CABLE on ANT 1 and ANTENNA on ANT 2 for two days now. I'm going to give it a couple more days before I change something again.

NO. Toshiba is just offering a step before the fully integrated model with the CC slot and TVGOS. 2 separate lines for different consumer needs, both should have the ATSC tuner

Well I've made some progress today. I was able to get TVGOS to breath some life into it AND I spoke to Chad from Toshiba this evening.
I took your advise and ran the setup to use ANT2 (analog cable) instead of ANT1 (Cable Card) with everything else left the same. Within a few hours, I had my clock set AND the channel lineup. The interesting thing is it appears that it downloaded both the Cable Ready AND CableCable channel lineups for my area, but since the input was on ANT2 it only enabled the analog channels.
I went back into setup and re-ran it to use ANT1. The clock has stayed and the channel lineup now mapped to my CC digital channels, but I still need to let it run overnight to see if it properly sets up the downloads on ANT1. At least I have a Clock and it's breathing some life. Also, the TV was off for a few hours tonight and it's already downloaded the TVGOS patch.
I also spoke to Chad later today and he put me at ease. Toshiba is actively looking into the 1.3.1 problems and hope to have a solution soon. Toshiba should let us know as soon as they have an answer.
Overall, an encouraging day.

After 2 frustrating weeks, I've been able to coax my TVGOS to come to life. This may help some of you in the same situation with 1.3.1. As of yesterday, I had a complete channel map and the first day of listings (days 1, 2 and 8). Here's how I was able to get it to work:
- I have CC and cable feed on ANT1.
- Split the cable and feed analog cable into ANT2.
- Go into TV setup menu and make sure ANT2 is set to CABLE, not ANTENNA. In Toshiba, it's in SETUP, INSTALLATION, TERRESTRIAL, INPUT CONFIG.
- Force ANT2 to rescan channels to memorize them. On the Toshiba, you have to do this manually for ANT2. ANT1 with CC gets it automatically from CC. In Toshiba, it's in SETUP, INSTALLATION, TERRESTRIAL, CHANNEL PROGRAM.
- I did a TVGOS reset (653214741) sometime before this last setup, but you may not need to do this.
- Enter TVGOS Setup and select everything you normally do (zip, cable Y, cablebox N, etc.) except instead of ANT1, select ANT2.
- My TV was off for only ~3 hours. When I turned it ON, I already had the TVGOS patch, clock set and a the channel map. Note that the channel map was only for ANT2 Analog Cable, but both the analog and digital cable channels were downloaded into memory - the digital channels were OFF in TVGOS. My CLOCK SET and HOST CHANNEL were both 2:0-2 (ANT2, Channel 2 which is my PBS channel WGBH).
- I entered TVGOS setup and changed only the input from ANT2 back to ANT1.
- Powered TV OFF for a few hours. After I turned it ON, the CLOCK was still set, but the clock source channel was clear and sanity level as 2 - according to Toshiba tech, when you enter TVGOS diags on the main screen, you'll see the date/time in the upper left of the diag screen and a number in brackets which represents the clock sanity. It needs to be 3 for sane. Anything less means it's not receiving cleanly.
- Powered TV OFF overnight. When I turned it on the next day it had populated with correct digital cable channel map and listings (successful download datestamped in VBI diag screen). My clock channel was now correctly set to 1:0-99 (remapped analog WGBH PBS), but my HOST CHANNEL was still 2:0-2 which is fine if it works properly. I would expect at some point that it will flip to 1:0-99 where it's supposed to be.
So it looks like the there is a way to work around the CC/TVGOS issues with 1.3.1 s/w. Hopefully this works for you. I'll still upgrade to 1.3.1+ as soon as it's available.
stoneyb 04-13-06, 10:02 AM - I entered TVGOS setup and changed only the input from ANT2 back to ANT1.
Congratulations!
Can you please clarify what you did in the quoted step? Did you tell TVGOS that cable was on ANT 1 and Antenna was on ANT 2?
In your original setup, to get this working, when you said Cable was on ANT 2, did you say that Antenna or Cable was on ANT 1? I told TVGOS that cable was on both inputs, and wasn't able to distinguish them in the listings. It sounds like you were able to tell which was on ANT 2 and which was on ANT 1.
Progress!

Can you please clarify what you did in the quoted step? Did you tell TVGOS that cable was on ANT 1 and Antenna was on ANT 2?
When I did the 1st TVGOS setup, one of the steps asks me to select which port my cable is connected to (ANT1 or ANT2). I select ANT2. When it asks me if I have an antenna connected, I say NO. I believe I am given both ports as an option for CABLE because they are both configured as CABLE in the TV's setup. When I ran the TVGOS setup the second time, the only thing I changed is when I was asked again if my cable was on ANT1 or ANT2, and I selected ANT1.

In the original TVGOS setup, both inputs ANT1 and ANT2 were CABLE, and I selected ANT2. This is how I configured the ports on the TV before running TVGOS setup:
When you connect straight cable to the ANT2 port of the TV, by default it was set in the TV's Setup Menu as ANTENNA. I then explicitly went into the TV's setup menu as I listed previously and changed the Input Configuration from ANTENNA to CABLE. But you also have to ensure the channel memory gets programmed by entering the TV's Channel Program menu, selecting ANT2 and ENTER (see Chap 6 in the user manual). The TV will start scanning all channels and memorizing the valid ones - it takes a few minutes to complete.
The only way I was able to distinguish whether a channel was on ANT1 or ANT2 in the TVGOS listings was:
A - Only a small number of channels were ON in the TVGOS Channel Setup consistent with my analog cable input. All the ON channels were from ANT2. The digital channels in the channel map (i.e. ESPN-HD) were there, but OFF.
B - If I selected a channel in the TVGOS listings (i.e. NBC 7) and hit enter to tune to it, the channel displayed on my TV was ANT2 - NBC7 (info displayed when you hit the recall button on the remote). I'm pretty sure that's how it worked but didn't spend a lot of time in this mode since I quickly performed the second setup to select ANT1 as the input.
Hope this helps.

You will be given the option to choose ANT 2 regardless of what the TV thinks. It seems that changing something in the TVGOS setup changes what the TV thinks too.

I found that enabling the HD channels didn't make the TV tune to them when they're selected in the TVGOS listing. The TV switched to ANT 1, but stayed on the last-tuned channel. That's why I gave up on that technique. Your idea of simply switching ANT 2 back to Antenna sounds encouraging. I'll know tonight or tomorrow morning if it works. I expect, though, that it won't survive a reset or power cycle.
magredc5 04-13-06, 04:32 PM I'll know tonight or tomorrow morning if it works. I expect, though, that it won't survive a reset or power cycle.
FYI, no reset or power cycle was required or performed when I switched from ANT2 to ANT1 in TVGOS . I was expecting TVGOS to reset everything and go into it's NO DATA screen after I went into Setup to switch the input, but since I didn't touch the zip code (just hit enter with the same data) it didn't reset, it just switched it's channel lineup to the digital one it already had downloaded in it's memory. Immediately I went back into TVGOS and the info was all still there. After turning the TV off overnight and letting it do it's thing, the listings started to populate.
I was happy that I got the clock to set, so the progress I've made is a surprise.
stoneyb 04-14-06, 11:32 AM Success! Thank you magredc5. I've got listings populating, and clicking on one tunes to the correct channel. I can start recording shows again.

Yesterday my channel edits were lost apparently due to another lineup update for my area. Some new channel logos appeared and my non HD network cable channels (CBS, NBC, etc.) where automatically turned off. So it looks like Gemstar will continue to refine the lineups from time to time to make them more accurate. Its unfortunate that this causes the default reset.
I also had a problem with the tuner not tuning in the cable channels in the morning when the TV was first put on. This has happened about three times so far since loading the 1.6.3 upgrade. I wouldn't get audio or video. This would usually correct by turning the set off then back on. The more permanent fix was to remove the cable card and then re-insert it. This reset it and everything works fine.
HarleyMyler 04-16-06, 10:18 PM I would have to say that Gemstar is responsible in the end. Toshiba showed me in my manual where they print that the TVGOS is not guaranteed to work and that Toshiba is not liable for it's functionality. Unfortunately, Toshiba's support personnel are the only one's offering assistance of any kind.
They can put all they want in the manual, but I never saw any sort of disclaimer when I purchased the set. They are ultimately responsible. The bottom line is that the channel edit problem persists and that has nothing to do with TVGOS. I get channel data fine and thousands of other do--but no one has stable channel edits.

I am in the Philly area. Sometime over the weekend the HD network cable channels and 3 of the 4 HD movie channels were turned off by TVGOS. Similar to what you are reporting, but in my case the HD channels were turned off and the SD channels were left on.
Strange that TIVO can provide essentially faultless channel information, but TV Guide is unable to do that!

Yesterday several of my HD channels were also turned OFF in my channel setup and the channels apparently were readded near the end of the channel list, so I had to re-enable them and move them back to my perferred location in the lineup. This is the first time this has happened and my edits remained intact.

I currently have s/w version 1.3.1 and have tried your work around as well as every other work around in the book and still have not even picked up the clock in TVGOS. I have talked to Nate a couple times waiting weeks from one time to the next and currently they are giving me the "We are working on it" line, with no indication of an estimated time. My setup is a Cable Card, my host channel is definitely channel 4, which is analog. Although, when I go into the diag menu, on Clocks page 2, the clock channel always selects channel 96, not sure why. Right now I've got a splitter like you recommended and have tried setting the input to Cable as well as OTA, both to no avail. My host channel is always blank, I have yet to pick up anything there. I'm fresh out of ideas, any help would be great.
Thanks,

The bottom line is that the channel edit problem persists and that has nothing to do with TVGOS. I get channel data fine and thousands of other do--but no one has stable channel edits.
TVGOS is governed by its own proprietary software, independent of the TV's control system. So any glitches or problems with the operation of the TVGOS is due to issues with the software. The disclaimer that you did not see appears in the literature and/or packaging for every single product which uses TVGOS...not just the Toshiba DLPs. I have seen it numerous times for many different products from many different manufacturers. The manufacturers of the hardware have made contractual arrangements to include support for TVGOS in their products, but they have nothing to do with whether or not each and every user will achieve full and consistent functionality. Consumers who are dissatisfied with the performance of products are not under any obligation to keep those products...they can either return them to the place of purchase or sell them.
Not everyone is having problems. My cable system's channel lineup has changed several times since I first purchased my TV, and my channel edits have held through it all....and I'm still using the original firmware for the Toshiba 46HM94.
korbink 04-26-06, 01:30 PM I currently have s/w version 1.3.1 and have tried your work around as well as every other work around in the book and still have not even picked up the clock in TVGOS.
Thanks,
Korbin
Anyone? I tried calling Gemstart directly just as a last ditch effort but only got to voicemail, doubt I'll hear anything back from them. I'm really hoping for some good advice from somebody here.

If you perform the steps I recommended to set-up on ANT2, and still have no clock, then for some reason you are still not able to see the correct data required for TVGOS.
Just to confirm, you should perform the following:
- With analog cable connected to ANT2, go into the TV's setup menu and make sure that ANT2 is defined as CABLE, and that you run the channel memorization as I had outlined to make sure the channel map is complete and accurate.
- Once the TV stuff is done, go into TVGOS and perform a reset (SETUP, highlight CHANGE SYSTEM SETTINGS but do not hit ENTER, and then key in the reset code 653214741). This will exit you out of TVGIS and should clear out everything.
- Now go into the TVGOS Setup, and enter all the info as normal except select ANT2 when asked.
You should see the clock set though a channel on ANT2. If you don't then either you're not receiving data or there is a different problem.
Paul_Seng 04-26-06, 08:47 PM Hey guys, I've glanced over the last few pages of this thread and have yet to read anything that is close to what i'm experiencing. hopefully someone has the same issues.
I bought my 72hm195 last week and it works like a charm....until I activate the TVGOS. After I do and the guide is downloaded I start to lose channels. The TV is only hooked up via OTA for my local HD channels. My wife can't stand it because they are the channels she watches most. I just did a factory reset without activating the guide and now all the channels come in. Before i call toshiba I was just wondering if anybody else has had that problem and if the FW update fixed it. On the software version screen I have :
1.30
FW: 1.69
With something inbetween and sub at the end.
Thanks

When you say that you lost the channels, I assume you mean that you could tune to the appropriate channel, but nothing was there? I have seen this on my Cablecard for 2 HD channels a few times, and a power reset (pull plug) corrected the issue, but I was sure my problem was CC related and you're using OTA.
TVGOS shouldn't change the way the TV works, but then again there are obviously a lot of bugs in it. What I would try if this happens (after you activate TVGOS and start having channel issues) is:
- Go into the TV Setup and then the channel editor for the OTA input and run the channel memory scan to reset the channels. In the manual, it does say something about needing to do this if you change the input to refresh the map.
- Check that the channels are Enabled in the TV's channel list. Even of they aren't that only means that using the channel up/down button will skip them but you should still be able to tune to those channels manually.
- 1.3.0 S/W was a very short term release and apparently had issues and did affect TVGOS. The current S/W is 1.3.1 which actually broke TVGOS for CableCard users like myself, but should not affect you on OTA. I have been able to get my TVGOS to work on 1.3.1 via analog cable on ANT2. Toshiba is working on a new S/W release to fix the CC issues, but you may want to call them to get the 1.3.1 now.

I have tried all those steps, maybe not in that order, I will try that to see if it helps. When you say to make sure the channel map is complete and accurate after the channel memorization, I'm assuming you're meaning in the TV's setup, because obviously TVGOs doesn't even have a channel lineup. My TV has never had a problem finding all the stations on ANT1 or ANT2. But I will try those steps in that order and see what happens.
BTW, you don't happen to have any idea as to when they'll be releasing a s/w update newer than 1.3.1 do you? I'm really skeptical about anthing working until I get off of my current version. Even Nate at Toshiba has seemed to give up on me.
Thanks for the recommendations.
Paul_Seng 04-27-06, 01:28 PM Thanks magredc5, i will call them tonight when I get home from work. Just out of curiosity, from reading the forum, it looks like Toshiba sends a smart card with the FW update right? And afterwards we get to keep the card?
Puchased 46HM95 in Feb. Guide worked great....perfect... until I upgraded to 1.3.1 in mid April to address a possible CC issue. Last week I was told that it could take up to 4 WEEKS for the guide to populate after upgrading to 1.3.1....BS!...I don't even have a clock!...I know it's not going to "populate"! I was also told that the enginiers are working on 1.3.6. I think the "4 week" BS is a stall tactic...waiting for the new s/w. I was also told that I sceduled to recieve a call-back today and that hasn't happened. Nate doesn't work for Toshiba anymore so dont wait for him to call you back.

I spoke to the Toshiba Tech Support rep (Chad) over 2 weeks ago and he told me at that time they were testing new beta S/W to address the 1.3.1 bugs, but would not give me a timeline. That's reasonable since they wanted to make sure they fixed the issues before releasing. I'm supposed to get the new S/W as soon as it's available.
FYI ... the customer support reps don't even know there's a new s/w release in the works, so don't ask them.

That's right, they ship an SD memory card with the new S/W. You just pop it in the card slot on the side of the TV and it loads automatically. You can keep the card.
dc10forlife 04-28-06, 01:00 PM So, I've got a 42HP95. I think all of the CC issues have been worked out now after upgrading.
TV Guide has worked, for the most part, since I bought the TV. I'm on TWC.
However, the following channels are not showing up in my guide: INHD2, ESPNHD and TNTHD. For ESPNHD and TNTHD I've used the analog listing and assigned it to the digital channel since the program information is the same.
I'm still missing INHD2 from the guide. I'd like to record something this tuesday. Is it even worth it to call, or should I just consider myself lucky that it works this much? I gues I can set a manual recording.

This is not a bug or problem. Gemstar, who provides the TVGOS data, cannot support every channel in their program guide so there will be channels that you will not get listings for. I'm on Comcast in New England, and don't get INHD2 or TNT-HD, but I do get ESPNHD and FOX-FD. It apparently depends on your location. For TNT-HD, I did the same as you and mapped my analog TNT channel to tune to the HD channel.
For recording, there should be a way for you to manually program the recording without TVGOS.

Check to see if INHD2 is in your channel edit menu. It may be there later on but turned off with no information. I had this same problem with INHD2. I found the call sign, assigned the correct cable channel and turned it on. I get all the listings now.
dc10forlife 04-28-06, 01:36 PM Wow, thanks for the quick response -- I appreciate the help. I've been debating whether to purchase a symbio. If the CC + TVGOS works for the next few weeks without any glitches, I'll probably purchase one.
magredc5 04-28-06, 02:40 PM Well hopefully it's soon. So how did you get on the list for the update once it's completed? Do you know somebody who knows somebody?
Call Toshiba Cust Service and open a problem ticket. It's that easy.
For the past several days I haven't gotten any updated listings from the TVGOS. Now, everything is blank with no data but I still have my channel lineup.
I saw notices posted saying it was a Gemstar widespread problem, anyone know when/if this will be fixed?
evernight 05-01-06, 02:41 PM Well, I've had my Sony for 3 months now and had the no-channels, no-clock thing for a week. First piece of advice for newbies is, give it 3 days to fix itself before you start messing around.
Now I've got a new problem, seemingly like everybody else here. Several of my HD channels have gone missing. I didn't realize it at first, because I could tune in the stations just fine, but when I tried to record on those stations, the DVR flipped to channel 1023, an empty channel, repeatedly. So now I'm wondering if I can manually program the analog channels to tune to the HD equivalents -- it's FOX, CBS, ABC, and NBC I'm missing.
Anybody have the channel 1023 thing? Are there details on swapping an analog channel to the HD equivalent? I have an idea how that's done, but would gladly take a look at a how-to.
Incidentally, has anyone had any experience contacting the local PBS station or whomever is broadcasting your program data? Is there anything they might be doing that is messing up the listings?

Are you initially telling TVGOS that you have an antenna connected to ANT 1, or not? I've been doing the former, but am having problems with recordings that end up unplayable (maybe 2 out of 3), and sometimes when I switch from live TV to the TVGOS screen, it says that I've been watching "ANT 1". Clearly it's confused.
I didn't get new listings last night either. I'm not sure if this is a temporary effect, but when I got back from vacation late last week, having done this magic setup a few days before I left, I found that I had no listings. I repeated the setup, and they started repopulating that afternoon.

No, I never set up either ANT1 or ANT2 as ANTENNA in TVGOS or even in the TV.
In the past 2 weeks, I've had my workaround hiccup where it would stop downloading listings. Both times, re-ran the TVGOS setup and left everything exactly the same (just hit enter) except for the ANT setting. I flipped it from ANT1 to ANT2 and completed the setup, let it wait overnight to let it resync with the host channel on ANT2, then the next day re-run the TVGOS setup again to flip it back to ANT1. I don't know if it's a weekly thing, but it works without having to do anything else.
One thing I have noticed is when I am back on ANT1 as the TVGOS source and I go into the diagnostics screen, my clock will correctly map to the ANT1 source 1:0-99, but my host channel will remain on ANT2 (2:0-2) and my VBI channel is on ANT1 but never the correct one. Nonetheless I still get my listings downloaded but it could be the reason that after about a week TVGOS starts hiccuping and I need to perform the ANT1/2 switch.
Also, on your comment regarding:
... sometimes when I switch from live TV to the TVGOS screen, it says that I've been watching "ANT 1". Clearly it's confused.
This is how it normally shows up if:
1- You're watching a program were there is no TVGOS channel identified. When you hit the TVGOS button, it will merely be listed as ANT1 since it isn't mapped to anything.
2- If you have TVGOS still looking at ANT2 for it's data, and you're watching TV via ANT1 (since that's where the cablecard is) anytime you hit TVGOS, the same thing will happen and you will only see ANT1 instead of the channel listing. That's because TVGOS thinks it's listings are for ANT2.
stoneyb 05-01-06, 07:54 PM No, I never set up either ANT1 or ANT2 as ANTENNA in TVGOS or even in the TV.Interesting. I initially set ANT 2 as Cable and ANT 1 as Antenna, then swap them after getting lists. Probably doesn't matter. Also, I've done the input setting and swapping in TVGOS setup, not in the TV setup, although I do use the TV setup to rescan whatever input is now Antenna.
I'm seeing similar things in the diagnostics.
I'm not sure that's so. It would explain my non-playable recordings, but many are playable, so it must be switching to the right input then, at least.
BTW, my listings filled up this afternoon. Must have been a temporary glitch. I didn't change anything.
maddogFool 05-03-06, 10:44 AM If any old timers are still monitoring this thread -- have any HM94 users had any CableCard problems after upgrading to Seine 1.6.3? My TVGOS is sort of working (using ANT2 as source for host channel), but I'm afraid a CC problem has been introduced.
My problem occurs when channel surfing. When using the "Channel Return" button to flip between an CC-encrypted HD channel (like ESPN-HD) and an SD channel (which has no encryption), I get macro-blocking/freezing picture when returning to the HD channel. The only solution is to power cycle the TV, but then it does recover. It doesn't happen when switching between network HD (which are unencrypted according to the CC status menu) and a SD channel, so I assume it's an authorization issue. My provider is Comcast, and basic cable lineup is digitally simulcast.
Previously I posed the question whether there is any correlation between HM95 version 1.3.1 (which I believe had CC issues) and what is released for the HM94. This is extremely frustrating, as I didn't expect upgrading firmware for TVG (which is not essential) would break core functionality of my TV. I suppose I could do a factory reset and see if a complete flush solves the problem.
Any other info or suggestions? Anyone know about newer HM94 firmware in the works?

MDF,
After going to 1.6.3 it fixed my cablecard issues of losing audio and digital channels but it did introduce the same type issue that you described. I haven't paid enough attention to it to notice if it's between encrypted or non-encrypted channels. All I can say is that once in a while when switching between channels I'll get the macro-blocking and freezing. I can either shut it off and turn it right back on to fix it, of I can go to an analog channel and then back to digital. Although sometimes going to analog and back doesn't work and I have to shut it off and turn it back on.
I reported this to Toshiba when they called to see how the new version was working for me. I would suggest you do the same as the more reports they get, the more likely they are to fix it.
Even if they don't, I can live with it. I'm just happy to be able to keep TVGOS going and be able to use my DVR.
Cheers,
Shane

Can you reproduce this issue everytime using the channel return as you mentioned, or is it only occasionally?
I have an MX195 set, and have been having what sounds like a similar issue since the beginning, but my issue seems to occur after several weeks - encrypted channels become blocked and smeared across the screen, and other non-encrypted channels start showing random block errors/corruption to a lesser degree. I've never been able to reproduce it at will but it happens roughly every 3-5 weeks and usually twice in a few days at that time, then it's fine for another 3-5 weeks. I also clear the issue with a power reset. I've tried 2 full factory resets in the past few months, but the problem eventually resurfaces. The problem seems to be a corruption in the digital tuner, since if I change my input to ANT2 (analog cable) and tune to a digital channel in the clear, I will find corruption occuring. Toshiba has been no help other than to claim it's a potential CC/TV interop issue that I would have to live with and reset the TV occasionally ( ).
I have a second call into my service tech but have not heard back from them since they are probably not getting much of a response from Toshiba on this issue. My other thoughts are to call Comcast to see if there is a newer CC firmware version which I'm sure there is. My CC is I believe 4.05.
Also, I'm on the latest S/W 1.3.1 for the 195, which breaks TVGOS so I know I'll need to upgrade again soon once they solve this issue.

It's very reproduceable, and consistent. I hadn't used the TV much since I upgraded firmware about a month ago, except to check the TVGOS. But I've been watching the hockey playoffs and baseball, and it always happens when I return to the HD channel.
This is very disappointing, as it makes the TV unusuable for channel surfing. And I never had this problem until upgrading to 1.63--that's over a year of CC stability with 1.50 and 1.58. I haven't yet called Toshiba...I've avoided that in the past, as they seem not set up to be responsive to customer problems, or even believe your problem is real. I take the fact that newer firmware is breaking existing functionality as a sign of serious quality control problems on their end.
I'm relieved other people are seeing a problem...perhaps it will get fixed. In fact, if it's not too dishonest, I would suggest that anyone else calling Toshiba describe the problem as frequent (mine certainly is). Perhaps that will get them to look harder.

My problem is so consistent, it makes it impossible to channel surf with the TV. I haven't called Toshiba recently, so I'm curious exactly how you go about reporting problem. An earlier post mentioned opening a trouble ticket. Do I just call the 800 number and follow the menu to the TV department and give my model/seria numbers and the problem report?
Well good to hear magredc5 that you got TVGOS to work after the 1.3.1 patch. I shoudl have revisited this website before I called them today after waiting the additional 3 weeks they had me wait for it to repopulate.
Well, long story short, they are going to replace my tv with another one. My 2 other friends in the N-MA, S-NH area with the same tv were able to get their tvgos to work from the start. So hopefully the replacement tv will work for me as well.
As for applying any further updates. I won't apply it if it ain't broken.
Regarding Toshiba, well it took me 4 months to get a replacement tv. Still not worth all the headaches.

Just to clarify, 1.3.1 seriously broke TVGOS for me. It worked flawlessly on 1.2.4 and 1.2.8, but they made me upgrade to 1.3.1 for the channel corruption issues.
TVGOS is still broken (when you use a CableCard) but I've been able to work around it. I'm still waiting for the next upgrade they're working on to fix this.
Well I got sick of waiting. Four months is more than enough. After applying 1.3.1, I knew I was in trouble. Waited 2 months and nothing.
I'm glad it's finally being replaced. I hope to have a new tv in a few days. I'll post my results here.

That's exactly what I would do and mention that this problem started with firmware version 1.6.3.
The odd thing for me was that they actually called my house on a Saturday to see how the firmware was working for me, that's when I reported the problem. I had planned on calling them on Monday but ended up not having to, I was impressed that they actually called to see how it was working.

I'm still waiting for the next upgrade they're working on to fix this.I finallly did get on the list for the next software release, who knows how long it will be though. I still have "No Channel Data" displaying. In the diag menu each day the CCorr value has increased, but I'm not sure if that's a promising sign or insignificant,we'll see.
I haven't been able to get my TVGOS to work since last week, it just been saying no listings and not updating at all. I did a factory reset, got the clock back and the channel line-up but it's been days and still no listings.
My TVGOS data settings under Host channel says "0xC - Pwrfail Num"
Anyone knows what that means?
googinb 05-06-06, 03:46 AM I hope someone can help me with this problem. I have a Toshiba XS35 and TVGOS loaded fine withing 24 hours. My problem is with the keyword search not allowing me to access the sub menu to delete the search, select the program to record or modify search. No options are highlighted when the menu is selected and it gets stuck, have to exit the guide and go back in. All of the other menu's seem to work fine. I tried a hard reset and that initially deleted the searches, however after the guide populated again they were back. Tonight I tried to do the intial machine setup and hope this will resolve the problem.
Could the data be corupt and permanently messed up the TVGOS? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A reformat of the HDD fixed this problem for me. Hope this helps someone else!
I had an interesting development today. Went into my channel guide and my edits were there but all the network HD channels, which I had at the top of my guide, were gone.
I replaced them with the SD channel listings but changed the 'tune to' channel to the HD version. I also found that ESPN-HD, which had been in my guide, was now turned off.
Weird.

Similar thing happened to me a few weeks ago where my network HD channels were gone and I found they had been turned off somewhere in the channel list, so I had to find them, turn them on and move them back to the location I usually kept them. Looks like Gemstar who manages the TVGOS data must have reset these channels in the respective channel maps.
magredc5
Thats exactely what happened. After further review I found the channels turned off at the bottom of the list.

darenriley 05-08-06, 05:13 PM Since I updated my Toshiba 42HP95 to software 1.3.1 the TVGOS and channel map stopped working. After 1 week of no progress I manually set the clock last night. This morning, the channel guide is finally loading!
I'm not 100% certain that this fixed it, but manually setting the clock is the only change I made.

Same thing happened to me... I thought maybe I had gotten a bad load or something, tried resetting everything, still didn't see HD channels. I was so sure this was a problem specific to the cable lineup I selected I didn't check here right away. Once I saw these messages, I checked, and sure enough there they were, way down on the bottom, turned off and no tune channel listed. I turned them on and filled in the tune channels last night. Checked this AM, and the listings had filled in :)
It would be nice if TVGOS didn't have as many issues as it does, but I'll tell you... the one reason for my ability to get a lot of good use out of it has been the info on this thread :D I think I would have given up on it by now otherwise!
Shaner1 05-09-06, 11:17 AM I have a similar problem with HD channels.
WB's digital channel wasn't showing up in my TVGOS list so I reset it. The channel started to show up but I lost HBO-HD. All the other digital and HD channels are there, even the one's I don't pay for. For some reason I can't get HBO-HD back in the list. I checked and it isn't listed as turned off.... weird...
Shaner1 05-17-06, 09:15 AM Guys,
I found out today that my cable company, Wide Open West, doesn't send the TVGOS data through when a customer has a cablecard. I asked if they send it with cable going to a cable ready TV, the customer service rep didn't know so she submitted the question to their next level support. It sounds like they only send the data through to customers with a cable box. At this point I don't mind having the box but if I do that then I can't use my DVR, they have the firewire ports disabled on their cable boxes. wtf....

That makes absolutely no sense, and I would bet the person you talked to didn't understand the question and they were referring to their interactive TVG provided on their 2-way STB. So, yes, they don't send the interactive (2-way) TVG data to a 1-way cable card.
However, whether they send the Gemstar data on the analog PBS channel is not dependent on whether the customer has a cablecard or not. They either pass the TVGOS data on the analog PBS VBI channel network-wide or they don't.

Thanks for that bit of info, I'll call them back to make sure they knew I was talking about the Gemstar data.
Plus I should be able to tell by tomorrow if my guide is updating or not with the antenna removed. I did the TVGOS set up again to say that no antenna is connected. I'll also run the diag code to see what the host channel is set to.

I have a Toshiba 56HM195, v.1.3.1 SW, and CableCard, all working together with TVGOS. The CableCard was just installed last Saturday. TVGOS was populated by Monday morning and channel maps / labels are mostly there.
Just wanted to throw out a bit of hope for my fellow Toshiba 1.3.1 w/ CableCard users. I'll knock on wood, though, since it's only my 3rd day of guide data.
Setup:
56HM195 w/1.3.1 (installed prior to CC install).
Cable in Ant 1.
OTA Antenna on ANT2.
CableCard = SA PowerKey CC.
Time Warner Cable - Rochester NY
Host Channel = PBS 11 (cable).

I wouldn't be suprised if the rep was clueless as to the whole concept of TVGOS. Everytime I've called mine (charter in Tri-Cities, WA) they think I'm talking about the guide built in to their boxes, even if I explain it in Laymen's terms. You'd have better luck getting ahold of the the TV manufacturer and then they can contact a higher level engineer w/ your cable company.

Do you actually have an OTA antenna installed or is that just how you have it configured in the TVGOS setup? I have tried that config before and the only difference I can see between my setup and yours is the CC brand, and I have yet to receive jack ****.

You hit the nail on the head. I called back and this rep went off to ask someone, she came back and told me that their system doesn't support this data stream. Her voice was so shakey that I didn't believe a word she said.
I'll call Toshiba to see if they can find out, thanks for the tip.

DarkStar999: the question is whether you're receiving your TVGOS data on ANT1 (cable) or ANT2 (OTA). If it's ANT1, then you're looking good. Who's your provider and brand of CC do you have (Motorola or SA)?
The only way I have been successful at getting my TVGOS data on 1.3.1 is to setup TVGOS to use ANT 2 (straight analog cable), let it download the channel map and initial listings, then flip the TVGOS setup to use ANT1. The data continues to download for about a week before stopping, then I flip it back to ANT2 for a day and back. A new S/W version is supposed to be coming out soon to fix this.

I suppose that it is possible that the TVGOS is populating from the OTA antenna feed, but the 'clk host id' in the TVGOS diagnostics say channel 11 (my cable cos mapping of PBS), where as the OTA PBS station is 21.
CC brand is Scientific Atlanta.
Korbink: I have an actual antenna on the ANT2 input receiving OTA station.
I'll report back next Monday with my guide status to see if it acts like Magredc5's setup.
Shaner1 05-18-06, 06:47 AM My guide is populating without the OTA, I checked the host in the diag screen this morning and it says channel 3 with is analog PBS. Plus I had listings for tomorrow which I didn't have last night.
I was, for the first time, able to edit my channels without losing my digital line up (could tune to them but got a black screen with no audio until I took the card out and put it back in) Hopefully not having the antenna hooked up solves the problem I had with losing my digital channels...
I wish I would have tried this a few software versions back, I've had about 5 or so from Toshiba so far.
I did call Toshiba and they were going to look into this with Wide Open West, I'm curious to hear what they find out since I had no luck with WOW's customer support.
magredc5 05-24-06, 04:30 PM Anybody else notice this? All of a sudden since about the past week 2 of my channels in TVGOS have no listing data - the other 135 channels I have turned ON in the guide are populating fine. I assume it's an issue with the listing data not being sent, but found it odd.
The 2 channels are UPN-HD (WSBK-DT) and WB-HD (WLVI-DT). It's as if they may be planning to remove them as they reshuffle their supported channels.

I just noticed yesterday that several of my TVGOS channels had become disabled. I re-enabled them yesterday, and today, there's still no listings for them. These are HBOHD, Showtime-HD, and Cinemax-HD.
Comcast says there's nothing wrong with their transmission. Other premium channels, such as Starz, are populating fine.

The listings for these two channels is probably not available because of the impending merger of the two services.
