I never got to experience Yes HD last year on D*. I hear it was excellent. Is it looking better this year or is it on par with last season?

Comcast in Northern New Jersey didn't carry the HD broadcast until the middle of the game.Sound was in and out.In the top of the ninth they cut to a movie on INHD2.

What channel is YES HD's coverage of the Yankee games on Directv this year? I know last year was ch 94 but now they only list as ch 95 with "MLB extra innings". I will reluctantly pay if I know I won't be blacked out (I'm in Brookly, NY) but I don't trust asking Directv. Talbain, What channel did you see it?

Its on 95, and theres about 3 or 4 different threads explaining whats been going on with YES HD so far this season.. Search YESHD and youll get alot more info..

In a nutshell, you dont need to worry about YESHD blackouts if your in Brooklyn....

sounds GREAT...(missed it)...is it going to show up if YES is your RSN or was it strictly Extra Innings PPV ??

It is COMPLETELY and UTTERLY mindboggling that aside from no csr knowledge of it's presence, that there is no D* advertising for this of any sort...never mind keeping customers informed, what about for soliciting NEW customers....incredible...surely they must be paying large buckets of cash for it (cuz nothing Yankees related comes cheap)...I can only imagine that it is not a total lock and that they're fearfulof overselling it and then losing the rights if it's an issue under debate for some mysterious reason...anyhow, guess we enjoy em one game at a time !!

no posts in the afternoon yesterday confirming...weird, thought thread was closed for maint or something.

Strangely enough in comaparing ESPNHD on Charter Cable, and YESHD on D*, the YESHD does look as good if not better...

Well, kudos to YESHD, because you can bet your bottom dollar that D* is not responsible....

You'd think with all the money the Yankees have, they'd have that Left Centre field camera in HD. That would make for some outstanding shots.

3 nice looking games in a row. i guess i should congratulate d* for this small victory.

as an aside, who the hell made up the yankee's schedule? open the season on the west coast with 10pm starts, come back to nyc for week 2 and play 3 straight day games? if you actually work for a living you have yet to see the damn team play after 9 games. ridiculous...

I noticed that the baltimore games are not listed on chan 95, only 1 is, same with the games vs the royals, only 2 were shown in HD the last one wasnt on channel 95, i wonder why?

Are all yanks games in HD on 95 or does DTV change the channels every so often?

I'm a little late to this but with the start of tonight's series on the ROAD (including yet another day game) I figure I would check out this thread. The schedule is absurd but I keep reminding myself that we will be rewarded at some point with more than our fair share of consecutive home series.

Last week during the Royals series I could be found in my car listening to the 1st 2-3 innings on WCBS while eating lunch. I was so starved for baseball and this team that I actually sat in my vehicle listening to just a couple innings...sad but true.

I'm having a Yankee fan friend from the midwest at my place on Friday and it is a DAMN shame that he can't watch the team in HD. Instead he'll get treated to some crappy SD baseball in large format.

Weird problem. Today's game (04/19) is available on ESPN SD and YES SD, not on ESPN HD channel. I think blackout is blackout, why do they only blackout HD content?

Interestingly this AM I checked one of my 10-250's and Channel 95 was just "gone" from both the onscreen guide as well as the "channels I receive" listing....just GONE. I KNOW it was "there" last night as I flipped by to see the Yanks-DRays game and noticed in the guide that there are a couple of games coming up over the next few days. It's not even an option to re-add it. And to boot when I flipped on the TV this AM I had a "searching for satellite signal" on screen because the TIVO was tuned to Channel 95. WTF?

I'll have to check my other HD-TIVO when I get home later. This is the first time I've had this happen with the 10-250.

Called the wife and had her check the other HDTIVO and channel 95 is alive and well on that one. So I'll just chalk it up to the TIVO gremlins that seem to be inherent in the 10-250's.

I'll try a reboot later.

Funny Cablevision didn't carry YES at all the first year. So that got me to switch to DirecTV. Last year almost every home game on YES on DirecTV was in HD. This year I think I have seen 2 so far.

I'm sure after the NBA playoffs, they'll be more consistent but it's very frustrating.

Now YES Network has expanded their coverage once again: adding 7 HD road games and 22 ED road games. How many of these are we going to see on D*?

YES expands road HD broadcasts of Yankees

YES Network
April 26, 2006

NEW YORK — The YES Network (www.yesnetwork.com), the most-watched regional sports network in the country, will provide New York Yankees fans with enhanced coverage during the 2006 season through an expanded schedule of high-definition Yankees telecasts.

The network has added seven away telecasts to its existing hi-def schedule, bringing the total number of away Yankees telecasts presented in hi-def to 34. As was the case last season, all 61 YES telecasts of home Yankees games are presented in hi-def this year. In addition, another 22 away telecasts this season will be presented in “enhanced definition”. YES’ “enhanced definition” coverage is a result of the network’s “up-converting” its standard definition productions, thus providing better audio and video quality than traditional standard definition telecasts.

“Our robust Yankees HD schedule, complemented with the enhanced definition telecasts, is consistent with our efforts to bring our viewers the best experience possible,” said Ray Hopkins, COO, YES Network. “These telecasts, coupled with our interactive telecasts premiering in July and the new YESNetwork.com launching in June with video highlights, are examples of our using the latest technology to bring Yankees fans closer than ever to their favorite team.”

(NOTE: All times are Eastern and subject to change. Stay with YESNetwork.com for updated information, including time, and broadcast teams.)

After several emails to D*s customer service, this is what they sent:

"Thanks for writing. I'm sorry, but we don't carry YES, SNY and OLN in HD right now. However, we often add programming based on customer requests, and I have forwarded your request to our programming department.

DIRECTV is committed to providing the best in HDTV programming. To do so, we're in constant discussions with various program providers to increase the number of high definition channels and programs we offer.

Stay tuned to D* for the latest news and announcements as they become available.

Sincerely,
Abby

I suggest that anyone that feels they have been shortchanged by D*, speak up and let them know.

It may be for you, being in Columbus, Ohio, but the previous Yankee games in HD on ESPN have been blacked out for those in the Yankee market. Now, there was a Braves-Mets Monday night game a couple of weeks back that wasn't blacked out so, my fingers are crossed that this game will fall in that category.

I'm in Morris, NJ. Getting it fine. When no game is on, channel 715 actually says "ALL" games will now be on YES-HD. They are referring to the added away games in HD and the added enhanced definition away games. The person you talked to doesn't know what they are talking about.

Looks like tonight's game is not on D* either in HD according to the programming guide. Disappointing.

From what I remember, D* yanked YES-HD on Sundays last fall. I thought that was because NFLST required the bandwith. It is possible that because of the NBA and NHL games, D* has decided to show HD (NBA and/or NHL) playoffs instead of MLB regular season games? I am hoping so. That would mean that come the end of June, there is less of an excuse!

Here in Central NJ on Comcast we did not get the game in HD last night. Normally the INHD2 programming would have been interrupted on ch 207. We were also blacked out on ESPNHD. Lat year we got the away HD games in September and I called Comcast's Marketing Dept and asked them why we are not getting it this year.

seems pretty clear to me that they have room for basically one or 2 HD RSN's at a time and now that they are offering others besides just YES, yes gets an equal chunk of the pie like everyone else.

They are actually going backwards in the largest DMA in regards to HD. Why they dont at least put the Local HD RSN's in MPEG4 I'll never understand. If they are too cheap to spring for another few encoders then sHut off the stupid duplicate big 4 MPEG4 HD feeds in NY and put up the RSN,s PBS, and the other local channels with HD. They have room for 500 LIL and arn't even using a sizable fraction of that space.

They are IDIOTS.

That is because the game is done in HD by YES. It is just that My9 is a crappy station, that does not show HD. I still can't believe that Yankees are associated with worst tv station in New York.

As a matter of fact most Yankees games that are not shown in HD are actually recorded in HD. For example Saturday Fox games are produced by Fox and shown by Fox, but YES is still recording and producing that game as it was broadcasting it.

it has nothing to do with your location to the stadium (that would be the nfl and ticket sales)

it has to do with region - and the broadcast being exclusively available to a local RSN. Its only bad when certain areas, like las vegas for example, has 6 local teams, yet don't get the RSNs for all 6... and any weeknight espn game would be blackouted out if it involves one of those teams... even if they don't get the teams RSN...

and why would they do that? isn't wwor going away very shortly? on a related note, where will the ch 9 yankee games be shown?

no WWOR is not going away, it is and has turned to "MY9"

It was the UPN Programming that merged with WB, which is now, or soon to be CW on WPIX.

the deal with the Yankees are for WWOR, the station not UPN, the programming provider.

At least on Comcast here near Hartford, CT - we're getting the "My 9" HD feed of the make-up game on INHD2 (207). It doesn't seem to be on channel 9 (WCTZ) like it usually is, and it's not on WTXX (the CW) which is showing the Mets game.

Also: it seems to be the backhaul. No commercial breaks.

Got my return call today from Comcast Customer Service. Yes HD will have a dedicated channel this year with the first broadcast scheduled for March 28th.
They will be on channel 212 on Comcast of Ocean County, Toms River, NJ.

The Yankees site schedule shows Houston is the opponent on the 28th at Legends Field but shows no broadcast. The same schedule shows @ Toronto on Yes on the 29th, @ Detroit on ESPN (probably HD), and vs Detroit on Yes on the
31st.

With the dedicated channel, there should be no need for me to call and "wake up the Engineer" (to switch the broadcast ON) as was necessary about 50% of the time in 2006.

Here in Connecticut on Comcast, I assume YES-HD games will be on INHD as we now have a dedicated NESN-HD channel to prevent the sharing from last year. Does anyone have any information on how many Yankees games will be in HD including those on My9? I heard rumors that the pre and post-game coverage will be in HD this year but I have seen nothing confirming anything. Any news on the 2007 season?

It used to be almost all Friday's - but looks like there are a bunch of Tuesdays now (at least 6) that you might not have noticed . Looks like there is also one Thursday. And then quick count of 16 on Fridays.

I seem to recall a blurb someplace that when Steinbrenner created YES network that Bud Selig told him he had to keep at least one game a week on broadcast TV so they could reach the masses and not shut out any fans. 23 games would seem to be just about an average of 1 a week.

I guess it's not OK for the Yankees to exclude any fans but MLB can sign exclusives with Directv if they want.....

Selig loves two things: Money and the Red Sox.
Selig hates three things: Consistency, logic and the Yankees.

Plenty of other RSNs cover EVERY game that is not a national exclusive. Take NESN for example. Besides, come the 2009 shutoff of NTSC broadcast, people in the New York metro area will need to subscribe to a basic cable package to receive My9 and they will also receive YES. I'm curious to see what happens with the My9-HD games here in Connecticut. Our local MyNTV station, MyTV9, re-broadcast the My9 games last year. Currently, Comcast does not carry the MyTV9-HD signal so I wonder if we will see any of these games. The New York area is so difficult to make rules like Selig's broadcast rule because the home broadcast area for the Yankees extends from the New York DMA, into much of the Hartford/New Haven DMA and I believe also into parts of the Philadelphia DMA. That leaves a large chunk of fans who cannot receive the broadcast partner unless their local stations work out some sort of re-transmission agreement.

Great job Bud!
Don't let the door hit you on your way out when you're finally gone in '09.

VT is not part of the Yankees territory, you will not get games from YES. Now if INHD is doing their MLB games again then you might get a game here and there when they broadcast them nationally. What he was talking about is that they don't have a full time YESHD channel so his system pre-empts INHD to show the games.

If you are in the NY dma, then you will get all of the home and some of the away games in hd. YES should be full time hd at the beginning of this season, but you will only get it that way if you are in the NY dma. That may change, and I think it will, when the new sats go up.

pretty sure that will never happen. MLB blocks anything out of market except MLB.TV and MLB EI. Even if they could get YES the games would be blacked out.

If I read correctly- EI is NOT YET exclusive- If I understood correctly MLB gave any cable provider who carried it last year the right to match the deal that Directv made. So before it's too late you should lobby the cable company in Tampa to agree to MLB's terms (I think they gave them all of like 10 days to decide).

The H20 is one of the two receivers that is mpeg4 enabled, but you also need the 5 lnb dish. Do you ever get YES in hd on channel 96? That channel is mpeg4, while 95 is mpeg2. You can do a system check in the menu to see if you have signal strength on the 99 or 103 satellite. Those are the mpeg4 satellites.

[QUOTE=michaelk]I beleive you are screwed. Directv doesn't currently have any realistic way to carry the Ka signals on the systems that are typically installed in MDU's (mutli dwelling units?). The old MPEG2 system is broadcast on Ku band from 3 satellite slots- Directv uses some tricks to stuff get all that to fit on one wire. For the new MPEG4 HD they are using 2 new satellite slots in addtion and it's not possible to get all 5 satellites on one wire with current technology.

This is absolutely not true. The 5 lnb dishes work with one wire. The only time you need more than one is with a dvr that has two tuners.

you MIGHT be in business. 99 and 103 are spot beam sats. So only a few of the transponders will have signal at any given location. So if you got signal on a couple of the 99/103 transponders then you may be set.

make sure you press your case that it will also stop ALL NEW HD channels from Directv. The locals (I think you said you are in Bergen County- so you can get the big4 in MPEG2 HD UNTILL they shut those off)- but more importantluy the "100" HD channels that directv is touting for year end will ONLY be availible with the 5 lnb dish. So it's not just missing the local sports teams in HD but potentially ANYTHING new in HD.

Also you can play up the fact that at some point they will convert ALL the current MPEG2 HD to MPEG4 and so all the Current HD might go away (probably years out but the building manager doesn't need to know that- LOL)

And if I did- dbstalk was the "offical" avs sat forum- so I'd most likely join that one first so as to try and not duplicate any more than I'd have to.

Like I said, 622 will have hd IF you are in the NY dma, that is, if you get your locals from NY. 95 will carry some games, but not necessarily all of them. Last year there were quite a few, but not all. BTW, the hd channel 622 is mpeg4 and you need the 5 lnb dish AND an mpeg4 receiver to get it, either the H20 or HR20.

You can't get YES hd from your area since you are not in the NY dma, except those games that will be on channel 95. Like last year, you will get some, but not all of them.

dont rush to Directv- last I checked they only were providing the HD RSN's to the DMA the team was in- Not the entire team market.

Since you are not in thje NYC DMA- you likely wouldn't get it.

Things might change when the new sats go up and they can put the HD RSN's on national beams- but that isn't going to help you this year for baseball...

D* provides YES to the Pennsylvania DMA, and the HD channel is listed as being provided to Pennylvania, as linked above, and verified by a call to D*. I've had D* before and received YES here as well, so it would seem logical I would receive the HD channel as well.

stop being "logical"- and do some searching- LOL

Before you spend hundreds and commit to 2 years of directv you should get the real facts and not what some idiot ill informed CSR tells you.

Kidding aside-

Seriously- they provide the SD YES all over the yankee's territory.

BUT there is a technical issue with the spaceway Ka sats that they can only send an RSN to ONE DMA. No one really knows why but the FULL TIME KA YES HD feed is only availible to the NYC DMA (unless things have changed in the past few weeks)- the PART TIME MPEG2 feed that has a game or 2 a week on channel 95 IS availible outside the NYC DMA.

If you find a real world post that says otherwise then please share but untill you find someone in Scranton that is actually getting YES HD on Directv then I wouldn't shell out the money and 2 year committment to Directv. You'll be nothing but pissed when you get a whole season of SD from YES untill the new sats go up....

A more saltellite speicifc forum like satelliteguys or dbsforums might be your best source of info.

I will try to find someone in the area that is getting the (now active) YES-HD channel this week.

On another note, some HD is better than not getting HD for any games not on ESPN or Fox, isn't it?

Also, last time I checked, D* doesn't REQUIRE a 2 year contract, and if there's an option to not have a contract, I would opt not to have one.

EDIT: My mistake, it looks like it's E* that offers the option to order without a contract.

Tonight's game @ Toronto starting at 7:00 P.M. will be the first broadcast on the new YESHD dedicated channel 212 on Comcast which launched yesterday.

Tomorrow's game @ Detroit at 1:00 P.M. will be on ESPNHD, channel 202.

Saturday's game hosting Detroit will be on YESHD at 1:00 P. M.

All three games will also be on MLB.TV (MLB.COM) but available only in 350K resolution. There are no black outs in pre-season broadcasts. It appears the 700K resolution broadcasts will start with the regular season and will be subject to black outs within a 150 mile radius of New York. Check with MLB.TV to be sure.

These spring training games are not in HD. They will be on the HD channel because it is a simulcast, but it will not be in HD. The ESPN game will.

make sure you press your case that it will also stop ALL NEW HD channels from Directv.

Response I received:

The system we have in place is the only system that is available for Multi Unit Dwellings, that provides the following utilizing 4 Dishes = 4 LNBs

Directv - 101 Standard Programming - Local Market HD Programming Directv - 110 HD Programming - Local Market HD Programming Directv - 119 HD Programming/Spanish and Chinese Programming - Local Market HD Programming Directv - 95 Ethnic Programming - Italian/Russian/Caribbean/Chinese/Korean/Japanese/Arabic/Filipino/Brazilian/

Greek/Polish/SouthAsian/Vietnamese/Ukranian and International Sports

The 5 LNB Dish provides the following:

Directv - 101 - Standard Programming - Local Market HD Programming Directv - 110 - HD Programming - Local Market HD Programming Directv - 119 - HD/Spanish and Chinese Programming - Local Market HD Programming

As you can see the 5 LNB Dish does not provide International Programming.

There isn't a solution that provides service to MDU type buildings utilizing the 5 LNB setup that your tenants are attempting to set up. They can receive all Directv programming utilizing the 3 LNB setup. The system requires specialized equipment and technical assistance in-order to set up any customer with all 4 satellites. (Keep in mind that there is no setup for 4 LNBs but we are experienced to get it to see 4 satellites.)

I hope this clarifies this 5 LNb issue. Also, we have more than 50 customers at your property that presently have HD programming that we have installed.

Is there anything I can do to get them to upgrade? Also, with my upgraded receiver, yet having the 3 lnb dish, I still have two 622 channels. Is it possible that I could still get YES HD by 4/1?

anyone know what the mailing from DTV that is selling for $39 for the season 2 HD channels , 730-731 for up to ten games a week means. I'm outside the NY area and as an optimist like to think that if their doubling the number of stations that broadcast HD in the baseball package that they'll be more yankee games available. The other more likely scenario is that they won't use 95 any more as they'll want to get the $39 from their customers. that's what having a monopoly on the MLB package will do

When you say NY DMA does that include NJ? I get all the NY local channels. I have the H20 receiver but not sure about the 5lnb dish as I don't know what that looks like. I have a DiecTV HD dish with three heads at the end. I also checked on DirecTV site and under sports I put in my zip code and it said next to YES 622 (HD available). I noticed two 622's yesterday but only one today. Not sure if they are still testing.

You are eligible to get YES in hd, but like I said, you need the 5 lnb dish. There are two styles, the AT9 and AU9. They look like this:

To get the HD feeds of MLB Superfan on 730 and 731, do you definitely need the 5 lnb dish and mpeg 4 receivers? I just ordered the Superfan and was told by the CSR that my 3 lnb dish and mpeg 2 receiver would receive the HD games, upto 10 a week. Was she wrong?

Those channels are mpeg2, so you should be okay with the setup you have. The rsn's in hd require an mpeg4 setup.

Neither of those channels is available right now, so they will not show. When D* activates them, then they will show, likely a few hours before the games go on.

Called in to Directv twice yesterday, got different answers, 1st i was told YES was broadcast 24/7 in HD on channel 622 with new HD ird. then was told , no such thing.I added the Extra package of 730 -733.
I really hate to give up my HD Tivo, how does the Directv HD pvr compare with the HD Tivo?Is it a worth while switch, and, are there any special deals for getting it and the required 5 lnb dish, i've been with DIRECTV for about 8 years now.
Thanks

Call and ask about getting it either free or less than the usual $299. They will include the dish and new multiswitch if you need them. Don't forget it is a lease and you will be committed to an additional two years. If you are in the NY dma, that is if you get the NY local channels, then you will get YES in hd on channel 622. There will be two channel 622's, one in sd and one in hd.

raoul5788, have they gotten all the bugs out of the HR 20, DOES IT OFFER PIP?, sorry for all the questions, but. i remember when it first came out every1 hated it ..
i currently have the 3 lnb dish, will need new dish, but, im thinking of holding on to my Tivo, also have Sony and RCA hd boxes, how many outputs does the multi switch have on the 5 lnb dish? I will need more than 4 HD outputs, can the new 5lnb carry more that 4 feeds? is there a multi switch to add more?

The HR20 is very stable now, although alot of Tivo owners don't like it very much. You will need a new 5 lnb dish. The HR20 has 4 outputs, so you will need a multiswitch that they will provide. The new Zinwell 6x8 or 6x16 is the only ones that work. There is no PIP that I know about.

The YES broadcast isn't in HD over DirecTV today. It is on ESPN, though.

Still, the Toronto/Detroit game looks nice on MLB Extra Innings.
