I don't believe than any of the Sharp DLPs have shipped yet. The first was suppose to be the 56DR650 in March and I haven't heard about any of them hitting the streets yet. The only place I see it listed on the Internet are stores in which they often sell you the unit well before they're actually released and tell you that they're backordered until they actually get some in. The site you mentioned is one of them. Sharps Press Release http://www.sharpusa.com/about/AboutPressKits/0,1108,477,00.html CCourtney KD123 04-07-05, 02:28 PM Thanks CCourtney, I have been lurking about a year and this is the fisrt time I register and post. I am looking to buy a second HDTV for my movie room. Currently I have the Samsung and love it. It is interesting to see more manufacturers producing the DLP. It should be for the advantage of the consumer. I will have to wait to see what come out. Khanh c1courtney 04-07-05, 03:01 PM Originally posted by AkaStp Which DMD chip will they have? HD2, HD2+, HD3, or ? The indications are that the DR650 series will have HD3s and the DR750s will have a different 720p chip (not specified - TV Authority lists HD4 but there's no official HD4 chip currently announced by TI.) It appears that Sharp wants to play in the lower cost DLP market (at least with their initial sets.) I do have to say I like the styling (nice compact base - no obvious speakers) and it looks like you can use a smaller Stand to put it on. CCourtney TetsujinWave 04-08-05, 02:22 AM Here are some pictures of it from CES. TetsujinWave 04-08-05, 02:23 AM Stat card for the set. TetsujinWave 04-08-05, 02:24 AM Second picture view. TetsujinWave 04-08-05, 02:27 AM Third picture view. irishrulze 04-08-05, 09:31 AM I saw these TV's at the dealer line show, they looked pretty well, sharp! Should be able to get at a reasonable price as well. fudgebrown 04-08-05, 09:31 AM Wow, from those pics it looks to be a very nice set. HD4 chip eh? Superior to HD2+ chip?? c1courtney 04-08-05, 09:54 AM Well the contrast ratio listed on the card is 2000:1 which matches the light engines in the Samsung HLPxx74 and xx77 series DLPs w/ the HD2+ with a 6 segment color wheel. That light engine has been referred to by TI as 4th gen HD light engine so I'd guess that's what it is and the 'HD4 chip' is a marketing mistake by Sharp. TI has never announced an HD4 chip. They always announce chips at shows either before or with sets that they're going into. CCourtney TetsujinWave 04-08-05, 10:55 PM If it was a marketing mistake, then Optoma made the exact same one with their sets. The HD4 is a TI chip, but TI wants to move away from the nomenclature altogether to "avoid customer confusion." That is what the TI representative said at CES, anyway. Apparently Optoma and Sharp didn't get the memo. Fahren 06-14-05, 12:17 PM tvauthority lists it as being in stock. somebody buy it already and write a review. i'm salivating over it. htwaits 06-14-05, 03:05 PM It's been at Fry's Electronics in our area for a while. Fry's is no place to evaluate a DLP set. I didn't care for the case but have no idea what the PQ will be like based on what I saw. kin@tvauthority 06-14-05, 05:25 PM Somebody should buy one so we get a good review on one ;) Seriously though, there is almost no information out there about these sets. All the screen shots I've seen from CES looked great, and it's at a great price, with very attractive specs. I like that V design also. snb3 06-14-05, 11:56 PM Kin, do you have one on display? KD123 06-20-05, 12:15 PM I saw this TV at Fry's in Houston (Southwest) this weekend. It was tucked in a corner that you can not even see it at the store. I know one can not judge the picture at the store. My first impression is that the picture is not that sharp. You can see the pixels (square but rotate 45 degree like a diamond) and the screen door effect. Much more than my Samsung HLP. CorCentral 10-06-05, 10:55 PM Would like some more info on this set. I did a search of 56DR650 but nothing better than this thread. Yes, I read the recent Consumer Reports on the newer sets including this Sharp that ranked 1st. I never go by thier reviews of electronics but still want to know what you guys think of it and would also like to know which set below is the BEST overall for Digital Cable/DVD playback/cable card ? JVC HD-61Z886 OR Sharp 56DR650 waltzonice 10-06-05, 11:51 PM I've also looked into buying this set. Costco is still selling the 56DR650. They were selling the 65DR650 too, but I guess they must have sold out of those. The only user review I've read is from some guy who had a dud set and he posted a negative review on various websites (including CNET). Anyone know when the 750 series is supposed to be released?? CorCentral -- I don't think the 650 series has CableCard. That's coming in the 750 series. install425 10-15-05, 07:39 AM I have a 65dr650 and think it is great. I have had it for about a month now. My only complaint is the codes for the remote, to switch inputs it has 1 button for every 2 inputs. Or 1 button to scroll thru all inputs. Doesn't work well when programming a universal remote. Other than that TV is very good for a good price. docrings 11-14-05, 01:39 PM I have a 65dr650 and think it is great. I have had it for about a month now. Doc Rings PaulGo 11-14-05, 04:43 PM The Sharp 56DR650 was rated number one buy Consumer Reports. However, I don't know how firm Sharp's commitment is to RP DLP sets. They are discontinuing tube based TV sets and seem to be specializing in flat panel LCD technology. DennisJ2tv 12-12-05, 08:18 PM I'm pretty picky - want the best value for the largest size - this seemed like a good pick - and - with Costco offering it at $2399 - and - with my 8 year old Mitsubishi 52" going out - time to upgrade. I chose the Sharp 65DR650 which appears to be the best bang for the buck. I was only able to find two reviews - one (*) and one (*****) - I didn't give much credibility to the (*) review because the dude didn't provide any facts, details or otherwise credible info about the set - just a whiner. The (*****) review I got is from consumer guide which can be found at the following address: <ack, won't let me post the address!! - well, drop me a line if you'd like to see the review...> - sounds like a pretty impressive set for the price. I'll be sure to write back with my own consumer/findings... h00ligan 12-14-05, 12:11 AM findings! DennisJ2tv 12-21-05, 01:38 AM Yippee! Get my new 65" before xmas... I'll post my review of the set in a few days... btw, anyone have any info on the difference between 720p and 1080p? Since my set is 720p - I'm hoping this isn't going to be a major quality difference... leshrac55 12-21-05, 04:36 PM I have one of these coming to me in February, but I will need a DVD Player to go along with it. I noticed that the set included the "Faroudja DCDi" technology. Is this the upconverting technology? If so, does this mean I no longer need an up-converting DVD Player? I was considering the Oppo, but if I don't need it, then does anyone have suggestions on another DVD player? Thanks! mde71 12-23-05, 01:48 PM The 65" can be had for a great price. Looks like only one HDMI input though. :( DennisJ2tv 12-28-05, 06:16 PM As promised - I'm posting the review of the Sharp 65DR650. First of all, wow! This set is absolutely gorgeous... 1. DVD DVD: I have a ton of movies - nearly 1500 - I love movies. The player I have (Sony) was connected to my previous set using S-Video. I was not impressed at first with the picture quality - but - after purchasing a $100 set of composite video cables, the clarity is unbelievable. Plan on spending some money to get the right cables/components in order to take advantage of the set's functionality. 2. Cable/Satellite Analog signal leaves something to be desired. I found that DirecTV with whom I subscribe requires an HD receiver and a new antenna in order to implement a true HD signal. Once again, I was not impressed with the picture quality - but - after spending the $49 to have a new dish and receiver (after mfr's mail-in rebate) installed, wow! The picture quality is absolutely awesome! Analag transmissions still leave something to be desired. ** Quick note: DirecTV is now rolling out 150 channels in HD - in about 30 days, you'll be able to get a "super dish" installed that will support this functionality. 3. General Comments a. TV Sound - very good quality - but, every once in a while I notice that the sound and the picture down align properly - the sound seems to be a few miliseconds ahead of the picture - don't know if this is a problem with lag on the HD signal in general or not and it doesn't happen frequently, but - just an observation. b. The set, even though it has its own built in base, places the picture at about 14" from the ground - not high enough in my opinion. I bought a Tech Craft stand, Model PTV582/PTV583REV.0T which adds 20" of height - perfect match - now, feels like I'm in a theatre...! Cost was about $200 from C.City. c. Be sure to set the TV type to 720i on your HD receiver - seems that the default was 480i. Hm... Summary: Outstanding TV for the price. Brilliant picture - thinking about buying another for upstairs. joe1 01-06-06, 12:46 AM DennisJ2tv - congrats, I recently bought the same TV from Costco and same stand from CC. I do have a question for you - are you able to change Picture settings? I can scroll to the menu and see the various adjustments like Picture, Brightness, Contrast, etc. But, I am not able to change any of the settings. When I try to 'select' or choose 'ok', the screen responds 'Unavailable' and indicates it is 'Dynamically Fixed'. Does your set do the same?? thanks. Oh, 1 additional comment about our stand - I like the height as well, but the 2 glass shelves with the cut-off shape at the rear is really causing me regret. Because of the cut-off shape, I am not able to utilize the full width of the shelf and can house only 2 components, instead of 3 (center the 2, rather than putting a 3rd component). It is causing me grief b/c I have no where to put my CD changer... borrillo 01-27-06, 12:03 AM Dennis - thanks for the review. I've been watching it for months now, of coarse, Costco no longer has it available. Should be picking one up in a couple weeks along w/ new appliances... Thanks Ron jones07 01-31-06, 10:19 AM Dennis - thanks for the review. I've been watching it for months now, of coarse, Costco no longer has it available. Thanks Ron It's Back GoldenUno 02-02-06, 02:57 PM I jumped on it...jeez that price at Costco.com is ridiculous. I'll review it around March 1 when I get it...I was all set on the Sony 60A20, but figured what the hey, its Costco! If the Sharp doesnt work out, then I just go and get the next hot item. Costco is slowly beginning to carry newer generation tvs lately - a great sign. 65 inches just in time for March Madness and all dem conference tourneys - woohoo!!!! jones07 02-02-06, 03:21 PM I jumped on it...jeez that price at Costco.com is ridiculous. I'll review it around March 1 when I get it woohoo!!!! Please do. Now that my 2.5 year old "POS" Gateway DLP is getting more unreliable everyday and repairs is going to cost me $250, just to have the repair guy walk in my door to give me an estimate. I'm really looking for a 60-65" mid-end replacement. And this sharp could be the ticket leshrac55 02-02-06, 09:07 PM I also just got one, but unfortunately have not been able to thoroughly test it yet. I will not get Cable until Saturday and the only DVD player I have right now to test it with is unfortunately an old non-progressive scan PS2 (blech). In any case, even testing with the PS2 (with component cables) I was moderately impressed with it's picture, but there were obvious problems (I'm guessing with the PS2 playback). I'm also considering a stand for it, as it doesn't seem high enough. Dennis, you mentioned the Tech Craft stand. I looked it up and it says it's supposed to be used for up to 58" TVs. Have you noticed any problems? I figured that because the stand isn't as wide as the full TV and since it's a DLP (thus weighing a bit less) that a smaller stand might suffice, but I was scared to get one, put all my equipment on it, and have a TV fall on all of it after just a day or two. I'm also wondering if I need to "enable" DCDi somehow, or if it's only used on certain inputs, or whatever. Again, it was probably the PS2, but the picture didn't really appear to be 720p to me. Also, I posted on another thread, but can anyone recommend a DVD player to me? I was considering the oppo, but I'm getting competing reports on whether or not it's necessary. Some are even mentioning just getting a good 480i player, which is puzzling to me... wouldn't a 480p player be better? leshrac55 02-03-06, 11:00 AM Joe- I managed to change the "Dynamic-Fixed" by hitting "Picture" or something like that on the remote. It cycles through a bunch of options like "Movie", "Game", etc. Once you change it to something else you can adjust the settings. Anyone know anything about the Philips DVP642/37B DVD player? It only makes manufacturing sense to have the same guts other than the screen, mirror, cabinet and maybe a larger wattage lamp (for the largest screen size). So far I've been extremely happy with my 65" version. HD looks fantastic, regular TV actually looks fairly decent as well. DVD Playback is superb with my new Oppo. I actually bought the TV back in November and amazingly was able to get the delivery people to schedule my delivery in Feb (since I was moving) for no extra charge. No guarantees chuckerants, but you may be able to do this as well. Costco will probably tell you this isn't possible, but when the delivery people called I asked them and they were able to schedule it 2 months away. Socarlion 02-18-06, 09:46 PM I noticed some photos in the early stages of this topic that showed the Sharp 56 and 65DR650 (without the cable slot) which is the version that Costco is selling. I also noticed that this model has a SILVER frame around the screen. I also noticed there were photos posted of the Sharp DR750 (with cable slot) model which appears to have a BLACK frame around the screen. This model was supposedly going to be released in the 3rd quarter of 2005. Is this model still available?? I cannot find anyone on the net who carries it other than TVauthority and they say "coming soon" and "call for price". I am assuming the release date has pushed into 2006 or is this model discontinued?? I really like the feedback I am hearing on this DLP and prefer the model with the black frame. I am also highly considering the Hitachi 55VG825 since I love the styling of that product (again the metallic black look) and like the fact that it has 2 HDMI's. The Sharp only has one HDMI but I'm still considering it. Feedback please as this is my first HDTV purchase. Thank You !! Has anyone heard of this problem with the 56DR650 (or for that matter any Sharp TV). Thanks for any help! I've had the 65" version for a few weeks now and I can't say that I've run into this problem. Even when I mute the TV there is absolutely no noise that I could possibly deem a problem, just the standard "pitch" I hear with every TV I've ever turned on (some people cannot even hear this depending on the range of their hearing, I've always heard it). As I stated before, I've been extremely pleased with it. Watching the Olympics in HD has been an absolute pleasure. DVDs also look fantastic on my Oppo (I was shocked actually, since I originally just played one with the PS2's admittedly horrible playback and was not impressed at all), and standard def television actually doesn't look that bad... of course, once you see HD on it you probably won't ever want to watch anything else, but I can honestly say that even standard def is very watchable. I can't speak directly to the 56" version, but if the 65" version is any indication, the 56" is probably excellent as well. borrillo 02-28-06, 10:25 PM I'm working on an overall review w/ pics... The HD newscast for the olympics looked like those lounge chair broadcasts were part of my living room. Talk about 3D affects! It was shockingly increadible. I couldn't imagine how a 1080 broadcast/display could warrent the extra cash in my budget. I need some help though, need to RTFM. :D Right now it won't let me adjust any of the colors and its currently way to red and green... Still looks increadible even so... Hang tight for more details. P.S. - yes, the fan starts up for a minute when it starts. The noise goes away after that. It takes about 30 seconds to 60 seconds when it powers up to reach full brightness... joe1 03-01-06, 02:28 AM I do have to say the fan noise is quite noticeable for me. It is a slight humming noise when I'm on mute or changing channels. I have a built in entertainment nook, so the walls around it probably do not help to absorb the noise... But, other than that I've been extremely pleased. Grandpa2000 - I just looked at my Costco wallet of savings and the 56" is in there for the period of 3/13 to 3/19. borrillo 03-02-06, 11:57 PM I do have a question for you - are you able to change Picture settings? Hey Joe1, I too had the same "Dynamically Fixed" problem and looked into it today. I called Sharp and w/in 2 minutes of IVR call routing, I was speaking to someone who said, "Oh yea, you fix that real easy... Press the "AV Mode" button near the bottom of the remote". :) I also purchased a DVI to HDMI cable for $12 or so... Hooked up my Dell 9300, nVidia GeForce Go 6800 to the TV and WAMMO, instant widescreen laptop monitor. This is good as I don't have a DVD player yet and can use my laptop's. I played a video file move (.mpg and .avi) and it looked AWESOME. I'm now thinking I just might buy the wireless Mouse and Keyboard so I can surf from my couch on the Big Screen!! I'm afraid to show my son Medal of Honor or Halo as I'm afraid I won't be able to get him away from it... I don't want to see it myself at this point or I probably won't stop for too many hours and I'd get yelled at by my wife... what else is new. Does anyone know where the post is that shows how to adjust your TV video settings for color, brightness, contrast, sharpness, etc... it told you to find different types of pictures and then to freeze it while making the specific adjustments for each category. One picture was showing a lot of blackness like in Batman Begins, another w/ colors... etc. I've been searching, can't find it... This is too awesome. Lots more info to come when I get more time. Rov drewh01 03-03-06, 04:07 PM I ordered this unit (65DR650) from Costco online yesterday and I just got my emailed shipping confirmation today.....can't wait! This will be my first entry into the HDTV world and it's been a LONG time coming. The reviews and comments on this unit seem good, and you can't beat the price. I'll comment on my experiences once it gets here. Also, I checked out the 56" version at Untimate Electronics in Scottsdale and they wanted $2350. I believe the 65" version was over 3G's. Ouch. Thanks to this site for all of my lurking research over the last year. It made a HUGE difference. Oh yeah, this will be a upgrade from my trusty 20" TV. (yeah..I know) THANKS! :-) d westa6969 03-04-06, 02:40 PM Just make sure you use an HD Feed from a STB to maximize your enjoyment with component or HDMI Cables. Some folks get the set and then expect a HT experience without feeding the TV HD Cable or Satellite. SD TV analog will lookk much worse on the larger screen but HD in 1080i will knock your socks off. If youk've been viewing a 20" CRT prepare for a new experience in 16:9 with evening broadcasts, sports, Leno PBS HD DiscoverHD and the CSI shows. Enjoy! :) GoldenUno 03-06-06, 11:33 AM OK - been watching my 65 thru DirecTV and and HDMI hookup and the picture that I have seen via HD is Re-DONK-ulous! I have not seen a better picture on any set, anywhere...now the SD picture is honestly so-so, but on a 65 inch TV sitting 17 feet or so back, it does just fine. I can't wait till March Madness kicks in...and the Masters next month - Tiger will be putting in my family room! Haven't had time for DVDs yet, but I will let ya'll know...I do hear the humming sound - barely...once I get the volume to a normal level and then I can't hear it anymore...will post some pics of some hoops action later this week. Maybe I can catch DJ Strawberry dunking on JJ Redick in the ACC tourney for you all to see. RE-DONK-ULOUS!!! Buddy C 03-06-06, 12:15 PM I currently have a 5 year old Mitsubishi 65" rear projection CRT HDTV. Would I be disappointed updating to this 65" DLP set? I am still happy with the Mitsubishi, but it is just now beginning to show the results of un-burnin from some black side-bar viewing over the years. That's my only gripe with it. Un-burnin meaning in bright widescreen images I can see a faint lighter area where the black sidebars reside. I guess this comes from the commercials during local HD viewing over the years as I always view SD content stretched. Strange though, that I see no signs of horizontal unburn from 2.35:1 DVD viewing. Well, my delimma is I'm in the Richmond, Va. area and have found none of these Sharps, 56" nor 65", to see in the flesh. The DLPs I have looked at do not impress me. The pixels seem to have a hard time keeping up with fast changing images. The screen effect I sometimes see is also a turnoff. Viewing would be 9 to 15 feet. I'm also hesitant with only 1 HDMI input. That means I have to decide whether my HDTV or DVD wins the one input offered. Good HDMI switchers are expensive if you can find them, so maybe it is more prudent to opt for a TV with 2 HDMIs built in? I also understand these Sharps utilize wobulation to give HD results, but a review I read said their were no visible signs of wobble. For those who have the 65' model and love it, did you upgrade from a comparable sized rear CRT model? Is this TV really as great as some say? Should I risk the purchase? Thanks! Buddy Buddy - I took a gamble on this set...with it being sold by Costco, I felt comfortable taking the risk...the price was right and the Consumer Reports ranking didnt hurt, although that was not the most important factor...I was about to go with the Sony 60A20 LCD, but decided that I wanted to go for the extra 5 inches - GOOD DECISION!!! At least so far...the first week has been quite nice in HD - I too had a 65 inch Mits and the HD picture on the 65DR650 is noticeably improved in HD. I cant yet speak for the single HMDI output being a problem as I watch much more in the way of sports and HBO than I do DVDs but it was a no-brainer to go with the HDMI for me on the HD box. My viewing distances are about 10 feet and 17 feet and I couldnt be happier with the "gamble". Buddy C 03-06-06, 03:53 PM Thanks GU! Is the screen highly reflective? That would be another issue. I tried putting the highly reflective screen protector on my 65" Mitsubishi CRT and the lighting reflections were highly distracting. Our dining area is directly opposite the TV, behind the straight-on viewer. Needless to say, the screen was immediately removed. Buddy jebb 03-15-06, 11:24 PM I'm about to pull the trigger on the Costco deal for the 56 inch for $1799, but having a little trouble because of the substandard report by some in this forum on SD feed. My dilemma is that I have free cable that is not HD and am dragging my feet to save this $600+ each year by keeping it. Obviously I can get some of the OTA channels via the integrated tuner, but some good input from those of you in the know regarding this dilemma would catalyze my decision. Thanks, Erik cammy 03-16-06, 01:24 AM Wow, it was amazing to see this thread resurface again...has anyone heard about any new Sharp DLP models announced for 2006? Its hard to keep track of every brand every year and even detail on them :) zazonz 03-16-06, 03:04 PM Anyone know if Costco is charging the $200 shipping fee? Cause that makes it less attractive. fireson81 03-16-06, 04:42 PM Anyone know what the viewing angle is on the 56"? borrillo 03-16-06, 10:35 PM No delivery fee from Costco. Just tax. I've been watching moves from my laptop and enjoying just hooking up my DVI to DHMI cable whenever I want to watch. Also have the audio cable already connected so I just plug it into my headphone output on my laptop and enjoy. Still a great steal! If you are budget conscious, this is it. I couldn't image how the 1080 could improve upon the 720 this has. I have the 65 inch and its great. I don't really notice much of a reflection. Certainly much better at night, but overall I a VERY VERY pleased. And I wasn't a Sharp fan before this purchase. Ron drewh01 03-16-06, 11:10 PM Hi, I just received my 65" delivery the other day and was wondering if anyone knew of any good tips/suggestons to make my viewing experience better? I love the picture, except I tend to notice the "rainbow" effect when my eyes scan from one side of the screen to the other during high contrast (night scenes) parts of a movie or when I blink at certian times. It is not too bad (right now), but I would like to know if there is a way to minimize this effect? I'd hate to have to exchange it for something else due to is size...I guess I am one of those sensitive people. I bought the Oppo DVD player and am using the DVI>HDMI cable. All in all its a great system and costco shipping was great. thanks dman78 03-17-06, 09:58 AM No delivery fee from Costco. Just tax. Or were you able to somehow purchase it on costco.com without incurring the $200 shipping and handling charge? zazonz 03-17-06, 01:42 PM I just tried to buy at Costo's website, There was a $200 shipping charge for me, making it about $2200. Little too steep for me. To bad they don't sell these in store. waltzonice 03-17-06, 04:50 PM I just tried to buy at Costo's website, There was a $200 shipping charge for me, making it about $xxxx. Little too steep for me. To bad they don't sell these in store. But there is a $200 discount until Sunday, Mar 19, so the total, with the $200 shipping is $xxxx. So essentially, the discount covers the shipping cost. Back when they were selling the 65" model, the shipping was included. But that one is no longer available on their site. Not sure why shipping was included in the 65" model, but not on their currently available 56" model. zazonz 03-18-06, 01:00 AM I looked at the 65" model. Anyone have any shipping experience they can share with me from Costco? I know they say allow approx. 20 business days, but that may be to stave off bothersome customers. Wishful thinking maybe, I'm pretty excited and anxious... The Sapient 03-20-06, 02:54 PM Flipping through online sellers, it seems that this TV has been discontinued. westa6969 03-20-06, 06:54 PM Wrong. It's always been in limited production and distribution. Sharp will sell > 4 million LCD FP's this year and this is their first venture into DLP and they got top rating from Consumer Reports. If they were to stop production it would be the result of selling them so cheap and making no profits but I'm not aware of SharpUSA announcing any discontinue of DLP ventures. I would expect them to transition to 1080P in the next gen since many of their new LCD FP's will be in the next few months. Let me bug you more on it since you responded. Were you used to HDTV (particularly DLP) before this? I currently have a 36" Sony trinitron tube. Is this thing going to blow me away in comparison? The size comment is interesting, do you know roughly how far your couch is from the screen? I measured mine and it would be about 11 feet. Do you know how they compare to the Sony Wega LCD HDTVs? In my oppinion, the Sony's had the best picture that I saw at each of the 4 stores I checked HDTVs out at. Have you hooked your PC up to the new one yet? How is the viewing angle? Tell me about it :) I hope mine comes as quickly as yours did, though I am in Illinois, so it would probably be a day or two longer at best. john910aol 03-21-06, 11:55 AM Have any one seen this new coming Sharp DLP 65DR560? In reality you will be spending $1000+ for a difference you will not notice for a few years. Steve S 03-21-06, 07:27 PM At a 56" screen size 1080p has almost no real advantage over 720p, which is why I've always thought the 50" SXRD was a waste of money. Was impressed. The sales guys bugged me a little, but I spent some time and played with the remote and set it up the way I thought looked best. I guess just takes a little tweeking, and their satelite feed wasn't the best, but ultimately the picture looked great. Come to me my 56" beauty! This waiting thing is kicking my $@*!%!! Oh yeah, the price at Fry's $1699, WOW, beats even Costco. You cannot beat that price for a TV of this quality. The Sapient 03-25-06, 09:38 PM I wonder why so few retailers carry this TV. Supreme43 04-09-06, 11:27 AM Finally got my TV, and I am extremely pleased with it. The viewing angle is incredible. The picture is sharp and nice and bright at night, during the day, still pretty good. HDTV shows/sports look awesome. Just watched King Kong on it with my folks, they couldn't believe how nice it looked (It's easy to dazzle people with a movie that won an award for Best Cinema :) ). I would recommend this TV to anyone wanting the best TV they could buy for around 2k. Oh and if you see one in the stores, believe me, it looks much better at home. I was dissapointed when I saw it at Fry's, but there must have just been something wrong with it or it was just set wrong. I barely had to adjust this thing out of the box. Summary: This thing rocks! The Sapient 04-09-06, 04:39 PM Has anyone actually seen these at Costco? I know you can get them online, but my local Costco doesn't have any on display. waltzonice 04-10-06, 10:08 AM I'm in Denver and have never seen the Sharp DLP's at the local stores. The Sapient 04-10-06, 09:02 PM Supreme, How's standard definition looking for you? waltzonice 04-11-06, 10:32 AM Guess a lot of people must have jumped on that Sharp DLP 65" offer on costco.com because it's gone again. Supreme43 04-11-06, 11:06 AM I don't mind it (SDTV) not as much as some of the ciritcal views you see. It's basically lower resolution stretched to 56" or 65". What does anyone expect? I have Comcast digital cable with the HD DVR. I can choose to select just the HD channels, and all shows we watch are on the HD channels anyway (NBC, CBS, ABC, ESPN, many others to choose from). I say, if you are a prime-time watching guy, or a sports lover, like me, you PROBABLY won't even tune into Standard Def anymore anyway, my buddy has had an HDTV for a few years, that's what he told me too, I didn't believe him at the time, now I totally understand. DVDs look awesome thru HDMI, HD Digital cable looks great through good component cables (in other words, having only one HDMI port is not an issue, just dedicate that to the DVD player). During the day, in my bright family room, is the only downside I see, but you would get that with any RP. It's just obviously not as bright as my old tube TV. But at night, that's when it shines (literally), it's just an incredible movie experience. All the pre-sets are great, I just had to tune my tint down a little, people's faces had a bit of a green to them. Believe me, I looked for answers everywhere. I was very skeptical of buying a TV I originally did not see on display. And when I saw it on display I was dissapointed, don't trust what you see at electronic stores. Get this TV! You can't ask for much more for 2000 bucks these days. (I'm talking about the 56" mind you). Perfect size for my family room. My screen is about 10 feet from my couch. I watched the Masters this weekend in HD.... You can't believe how beautiful the course looked on this TV unless you were there in person. Supreme, How's standard definition looking for you? The Sapient 04-12-06, 05:56 PM Thanks for the info Supreme. I think I'll be using the HMDI port for Dish's HD DVR and componant for the DVD player, as I watch more TV than movies. There are a few SD shows I can't get by without either, so I am hoping I can deal with the decreased picture quality. Going to order this TV soon. Gyoza 04-27-06, 01:46 PM Anyone know where i can pick up the matching stand for the 56DR650? Thanks jhoweth 04-27-06, 01:58 PM I just went looking at TV's at my local Fry's Electronics yesterday, and no Sharp units to be found yet. Supreme43 04-28-06, 02:29 PM I just went looking at TV's at my local Fry's Electronics yesterday, and no Sharp units to be found yet. Fry's will tell you it has been discontinued. They recently cleared them out of the local Fry's over here, ended up selling the display unit for 1499... The person who bought it may have not realized that there was 4000+ hours of lamp time used. I checked with SharpUSA, who directed me to some discrete supply store that carries this lamp. A new lamp is $325. I would get it new way before spending 1500 for a display model (lord knows who has touched it) with 4000+ hours used. c4vicious 04-28-06, 04:43 PM Hey guys, I'm new here and I'm new to HDTV. I had a different tv before and I found 2 hd signals so I know they are there to be found. Can someone please help? Thanks in advance. Gyoza 05-01-06, 04:46 PM Looks like Costco isn't selling the Sharp DLP anymore... Gyoza 05-12-06, 10:58 AM Took delivery of my 56" Sharp DLP today. They decided they would unpack outside, and then just bring the TV itself into my apartment. BAD IDEA The minute they pick it up and start moving you hear a loud cracking noise. I'm guessing something cracked in the base, but there is no visable damage and the TV stands up fine. Reguardless, I am going to call costco and have them send me another one. Supreme43 05-16-06, 02:23 PM Yeah I went and picked mine up from the local distributor because I would have had to wait a week longer before they were in my area. Realized that the base is a little flimsy but physics would tell you that plastic breaks if not supported properly, they probably held the base wrong and something cracked where you can't see it. May as well replace it if they drop it off and pick up the old one... beat it to death while you have it hehe. (j/k) How do you like it so far? Gyoza 05-16-06, 05:02 PM First off, I called costco that day and reported what happened. They were really cool and told me my options. i told them I haven't had a chance to test the set yet, and would let them know. They said they could have someone pick up the set and then send me another, but that would leave me without a tv for at least 2 weeks. Im still not totally sure what im going to do, i might just wait it out and return it for an upgrade after a few months. I could always just buy another set (the same or different) and just return this one once I recieve the new one. So far its great. I just got finished moving and don't have my HD hooked up yet, but I have been able try out the DVD (via component), SD cable, and PC (via vga). The DVD scared me at first, my DVD player is progressive scan, but its a little old. I watched half of fifth element before I realized it was only playing in 480i and not 480p. After I fixed that it looks much better. If you get too close to the tv the picture quality sucks, but at about 9 feet it looks great. Still not sure if i am going to upgrade to an "up-converting" dvd player or just stick with what i got. The SD channels aren't too impressive, but thats pretty normal, it all comes down to what the HD looks like. Comcast is coming on Saturday, so thats going to be the real test. So far I have been VERY impressed with the PC input. I have it hooked up to my HTPC and it looks awesome. The fonts are very clear and I can surf right from my couch. I download a lot of xvid and divx shows and they look good too. My only complaint so far is that its kinda loud. It must be the fan for the lamp. It doesnt bother me too much though. waltzonice 05-16-06, 07:44 PM costco.com is now offering $300 off the 56" Sharp DLP. Do they still have the 30 day price guarantee? At first view, I was a little disappointed, my good friend has a new 60 inch Sony SXRD and it's been my only real glimpse into this world. Once I realized that he bought his set from Bestbuy for $5K and I bought my 56 inch DLP from Costco for a grand total of $1950 with delivery and tax I realized who the real winner was. My couch is 13 ft from the set; the picture quality at night/in the dark is alot better than day time, I am currently watching Sin City in SD on Starz. The PQ is so much better than I expected, we planned on only watching HD programming as my friend told me that would be the case after our first taste. Truth is I recorded everything possible on Discovery HD today; there were all fanstastic, I was impressed enough to be satisfied but watching Sin City now has cemented the fact that this tv is worth alot more than I paid for it. I am currently watching through my HDMI connection (only 1, it;'s the TV's biggest downfall), I looked at my old DVD player (not even progressive scan) through the component cables that came with my DirecTV box and was thoroughly disappointed. Tomorrow I will definitely buy some Monster cables and possibly a HDMI reciever/DVD home theatre. Overall I am pleased with this television, especially at the price I paid for it but you definitely will need to find another way to connect a second HDMI device (PS3/DVD/XBOX) Supreme43 05-21-06, 09:24 AM Just buy the best component cables you can find... You can easily compare the quality between HDMI and component since you can switch between the two when they are both plugged in. I saw very little difference, my wife still thinks the component looks better in fact (more colorful). Believe me, the one HDMI thing is not a big deal. Dedicate HDMI to DVDs. You lose a little HD signal, therefore some resolution over the cable/satelite anyway. DVDs with HDMI, you know you get the fulll resolution. Gyoza 05-22-06, 09:28 AM I totally agreed about the HDMI vs Component issue. Quality-wise its the old analog vs digital, cds vs records, etc. I prefer component, but i dont think there is a huge difference one way or the other. HDMI is good because it carries audio with the video, but I dont think thats such a great feature since i want my audio going straight to my reciever and the video going to the TV. I have an older progressive scan DVD player that I am pretty happy with. The 480p looks good, but if anyone hooks up an upconverting player, let us know the results. TV-wise, I am liking mine more and more everyday. Like bobdee, it was hard to pull the trigger on this set sight unseen. But I am loving mine. The fan can be a little loud, but its not too bad. I don't notice it unless I am trying to hear it. The HD is great, sopranos last night was awesome. If you have a PC you can hook up (its even worth building one for it) it looks great. I just bought a wireless keyboard and mouse, and i can surf from my couch (clearly) thats 12 feet away! By the way, I used Avia to calibrate the TV, I think the sharpness is set too high on the factory default. ps - Watch out if you buy a a/v reciever with HDMI switching, some units (like the comcast HD-DVR) wont "handshake" with a reciver, they need to be directly hooked up to the tv. I suppose its because HDMI has copy write protection built in. bobdee74 05-26-06, 11:29 PM I went to Costco and purchased the Samsung HT-TQ85 which has both HDMI input and output plus a built in upconverting DVD changer. I have been pleased so far, there are some issues with the Samsung remote. I have to actually get up to go from DVD back to the HDMI input (Directv), I guess I need to find the thread for that device too :-). This setup leaves the component available for gaming or you can run the system through the DVD player. Picture quality from the DVD player is almost as good as the signal from Directv...so far so good. I was going to ask about calibration, does anyone have a view on Avia vs Digital Video Essentials? Gyoza 05-30-06, 01:57 PM I used AVIA on my set. You can tell its pretty old (no 16:9, only full screen) and no mention of DLP, Plasma, LCD, etc. Definately a CRT era disc. The tests are pretty good though. Some stuff doesnt apply, like convergence. But you can improve your pic quality in about 20 minutes. I didn't do the sound calibration, but its on the disc too. I found the sharpness was set way too high from the factory. Overall, I wouldn't buy the disc, but rent it. Check your local video store to see if they have a copy. How is your upconverting DVD player? I am wondering how much better 720p or 1080i is than the 480p that my progressive player currently does... bobdee74 05-30-06, 02:11 PM I am happy with the picture quality through the HDMI input, I can't really speak to the difference of progressive vs. "upconverted 720P" as I did not have a progressive scan DVD player prior to buying this one. The PQ definitely does not compare favorably to Discover HD through my HDMI connection. Thanks for the info on AVIA...I'll look into other calibration discs...thanks. Carioca_FL 06-15-06, 12:53 AM I know I'm asking you all to use your imagination here, but can anyone care to speculate if this set will be available much longer? My current TV (a Sharp 36" CRT) is going to my in-laws by the end of the year (Oct-Dec timeframe) and I just can't justify having two large TVs in the living room -we already have a 32" LCD in the bedroom. Also, re. SD feeds, can anyone comment on the quality of those feeds? We have Comcast (Motorola 6412) and would probably be using component cables and not the HDMI to DVI cable. Finally, has anyone gamed on this set? Either with an Xbox or a Xbox 360? Any signs of ghosting/trailing and/or burn-in? Thanks! /edit: Wow, can't believe it's been almost 3 years since I've registered and I never posted. . Supreme43 06-15-06, 04:47 PM SD feeds are ok. Blurry compared to HD, but expected on a big screen. Nothing you can't live with. It's hard to say how long this TV will be around not being privvy the profit #s. But I do know there is a newer model out for both 56" and 65". (56DR750 and 65DR750) Not sure when these will take over their spot. I game on this with both my PC input, looks great, and my Xbox/Game systems look good too. I don't see any wierd things any different than when I played on my 36" sony tube. Carioca_FL 06-17-06, 12:53 PM Can anyone confirm or deny any lag on this set? Either from gaming or from any STBs using HDMI. bobdee74 06-17-06, 06:22 PM I use the component input for my x-box and I think the PQ is very good even in strecth mode. I haven't noticed any lag at all with my HD Directv through HDMI, my X-box or Playstation. Carioca_FL 06-17-06, 07:28 PM Cool, I just hope Costco continues to carry this model til Q4 '06... hckyplyr 06-23-06, 05:49 PM Just ordered one of these this morning. Costco now has these with a $500 coupon so the price is even better! Looks like they are blowing these out for the new model. :D Carioca_FL 06-23-06, 09:27 PM The price is exactly the same; it was $1699 with free shipping (list price was $1999 with a $300 coupon, so =$1699). The "new" price of $ 1499 doesn't include the $165 shipping, so it's almost the same. Supreme43 06-27-06, 11:01 AM Wow that's an incredible price for this set. I say to all who do not have an HD set yet, get one! That's a steal. I'd get a spare for my bedroom if I had the cash :) So far, I have over-paid by $300 since I bought mine in April, and counting, let's see if they eventually just give this dang thing away! bobdee74 06-27-06, 11:44 PM I paid just under $2k for tax and delivery and I still think it's been a steal. I only worry that I'll want to jump to 1080i/p in the next year or two. For this price you should definitely take advantage of a TV this size. tvjunkie06 06-28-06, 01:18 AM I received my Sharp 56" DLP 56DR650 on Saturday. Since the cable guy was not scheduled to come out until Tuesday, I just connected the coax cable directly from the wall to the TV. I was pretty impressed with the PQ. Well, the cable guy installed my new HDTV cable box today, and while the HD channels look amazing, my standard cable channels are awful. There are quite a few channels that I enjoy watching that are not broadcast in HD, and I practically get a headache trying to view them now, since the image is so blurry. Any ideas on how to improve the SD image?? Since the HDTV box was connected this morning, I cannot change the "view mode" from STRETCH to STANDARD ("stretch" is the only option allowed). This might explain why my SD image is so bad. hckyplyr 06-28-06, 11:43 PM Question for anyone whos bought one of these from costco. I got an email from them that it shipped on Monday, but there is no tracking info. Does anyone know how long it takes for this to get updated? or do they call a shipping company and that company will call me to schedule delivery? I want my HDTV!!! :( tvjunkie06 06-29-06, 10:55 AM It took about 10 days from the time that I got the shipping notice until I got my TV. Costco will never update the shipping information, you just have to wait. The shipping company will call you the day before delivery, but they didn't give me an opportunity to pick a delivery time.....they just said "the delivery company will deliver the TV tomorrow between 8AM and 5PM." One more thing....I ordered my TV a few weeks ago with free shipping. Make sure your delivery company realizes that the shipping includes delivery inside your house. The delivery company that brought my TV tried to leave it at the curb!!! When we read the bill of laiding, it clearly stated "inside delivery", so they brought it inside the house. :p bobdee74 06-30-06, 03:20 AM My delivery took exactly 8 days, which felt like forever but it was worth the wait. The deliver company here in West Los Angeles was great, they called the day before with a short window and showed up early :D Supreme43 06-30-06, 02:19 PM Mine would have taken 3 weeks for delivery! But when the shipping company called me on a Tuesday that it is in their warehouse, and that they won't be out in my area until the following Wednesday, I asked if I could just come pick it up... I know I paid a ton for white-glove delivery, but after already waiting 13 days just to hear about it taking another week, I said screw it and went and picked it up... I live in Illinois, NW Chicago burbs, not sure about how long it takes to deliver to anywhere else in the country. And Costco never updated my info. You can call them eventually and they can tell you the shipping company they are using, then just call that shipper and get the info from them. brahmachari99 07-03-06, 11:54 AM I am also interested in this TV, however there are a couple of things which are making me hesitant: 1. Lamp life is only 6000 hours. This would roughly last about 2 years. I thought the DLP TV's (as opposed to projectors) were made to last about 4-5 years of normal use with a lamp. I may be wrong but this is the only TV that even mentions lamp life. Does any one know what the lamp life is on comparable Samsung, Hitachi, etc? 2. Is this TV QAM capable? The specs don't mention this but one of the reviews said it IS QAM capable. Has anyone actually seen this feature on this TV? lah5135 07-04-06, 07:20 PM I own a Sharp 56 DLP since last year June. I must admit the picture is great! The built in tuner only pulls in over the air signal via an ant. Recently, my lamp when, I just ordered a replacement. IT is costly, my lamp went a little over 2000 hrs. I was supposed to last 6000 hrs. I contacted Sharp, but my TV is out of warranty. I called a Sharp Service place, they said that they would have to come pick up the TV. I dont know, if I should have them come pick it up, or just wait for my replacement. It sucks coming home and my TV does not work. hckyplyr 07-06-06, 10:01 AM Can someone please post the settings they use for their set? I just got my set yesterday (the fan noise bothers me a bit, but ill get used to it or turn the tv louder ;) ) and used VE to calibrate (after the set had been on a couple of hours), but my set still doesnt look exactly right. What temp level do you use? mode? contrast? brightness? color? etc. Thanks! brianblank 08-04-06, 07:14 AM I just came across this TV on the CostCo site. Only recently, I have noticed a humming fan noise, seems to be getting louder. When you turn the TV off it's like shutting down an engine.... Anyone experiencing this? Is there like a fan or something that needs cleaning? Seems to be coming from the rear-left of the TV, by the compartment where the lamp gets installed. The noise is becoming intollerable actually, bothers us while we are watching. When we got it new, I had read about people complaining about the humming, but I had no humming, if there was, I just did not notice it. But now, both my wife and I are displeased with the sound. Let me know if you too have had this issue and if there is anything I can do other than calling Sharp, because if this noise keeps up, I will want to get it fixed or even replaced. Supreme43 10-12-06, 11:47 AM For anyone who cares. Sharp told me that this is an issue with this TV (great), the part I need is on back-order, part they call "Optical Assembly", sounds more serious than just a fan. So now I am left worrying about what happens after the TV is out of warranty, will this dang part go bad every 6 months? Luckily this time, It's covered. Having second thoughts about the quality of Sharp TVs........ Too bad too, I loved this TV, everything else about it is great, but this buzzing noise is incredibly irritating. My experience has been a nightmare. When I first heard the noise at six months, the servicer spent two hours in my home replacing the fan only to find out that wasn't the problem. So I waited a week for a new light engine, but then I started having some color problems. They've since replaced the light engine and some other set internals to where there is nothing original left. It's been about five months since the last light engine was put in, and the color wheel is humming away and getting louder daily. It's a damn shame because whern it's working, it's a beautiful picture. But I want it out of here at this point. My servicer is trying to get me a refund or replacement. I'd prefer the refund if the replacement has to be another on of these sets. Dave Clary Corpus Christi, TX Supreme43 10-20-06, 01:44 PM It appears to me that is EXACTLY what you can expect. I just got off the phone with them and they told me that I have been approved for reimbursement due to unavailability of parts!! I don't know any of the details--someone is supposed to contact me by the end of the week. There is no way I come ahead on this deal--I'm sure I'll end up with an amount far short of what I need to find a suitable replacement. Supreme43 10-26-06, 09:24 PM I returned mine to Costco. They had a 45" Sharp Aquos LCD for 2499.99 just two days ago when I was browsing for what I wanted to exhange it with, today I checked online again, it was just lowered to 1999.99 (model # LC-40C45U). I was thinking about it at 2499, this made it a no brainer. Don't have a review for this one yet really, giving up 11" in TV size is my biggest issue, but my wife is convincing me that it was too large for our family room anyway, and this one is a perfect fit. I'm starting to believe that. Comparably, based off the first day, I'd have to say the picture of the 56" DLP looks overall better, but I much rather prefer the lamp life difference of 10x more viewing hours on the LCD, I was always worried a little too much about that dang 6000 hour lamp life. Also, I don't believe this one will do 1080i, not much of an issue for me yet. This one has 2 HDMI's so now I can run both cable and DVD via HDMI instead of component. There is a much larger range of settings for this one,. Oh and not hearing that annoying buzz is worth it alone. Bye bye DLP technology, hello flat-panel LCD... Hey I may as well call myself Sharp. MOtvGuy 10-27-06, 07:24 AM Just an FYI, Sharp is basically focusing completely on LCD TV's. They're latest line of direct view TV's is their last. They got into the DLP end of the business just to have a foot in that water (this per Sharps lead technical support guy). Needless to say, since their DLP technology isn't that important to them they just aren't going to go the extra mile to make sure their DLP sets have the same quality or support that their Aquos line has. dclaryjr 10-27-06, 08:41 AM I returned mine to Costco. Good move!! :) I've been pondering what to get as a replacement for the last few days--spending a lot of time in the Sony SXRD threads. Then in yesterday's mail was a flyer from the Navy Exchange featuring the JVC HD-55FN97 LCOS set. It's at a good price and they are throwing in a free stand. I'll be there when they open Wednesday morning!!! I checked Best Buy and they have it on sale for $2299. The Navy has a price matching policy but only for brick & mortar competitors. I sure hope BB has them on the floor for that price. Heading that way after work today to check. dclaryjr 10-27-06, 08:43 AM Just an FYI, Sharp is basically focusing completely on LCD TV's. . The size doesn't seem to matter for some reason, it just seems like it fits my room so much better (my couch is 10 feet from the TV). If you have a similar sized room, don't fret the loss in size. I actually believe that there is a size limit in any given room, then it just becomes too much. For the same price as your return (bring it to local Costco, and swap it with what they have instock, and save the 200 bucks shipping that u initially paid), and replace with the Sharp 45" LCD Flat panel they have. You won't be upset :) Here's the LC-40C45U owner's (lovers) thread: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=696784 But get whatever you want ;) Gyoza 11-08-06, 09:41 AM I was upset for like half a day that I traded in 56" for a 45" LCD flat panel. No questions asked or what? Like I said though, my Sharp has been working fine, and I'm coming up on the 6 month mark now. I will keep it until it decides to act up, then its going straight back to costco to be swapped for the latest and the greatest. I'm not even going to attempt to contact Sharp. Good luck guys. One question was asked "What's wrong with it?"... I answered the question and left it with them. Picked up my other one and went home, even got the new purchase put on my Costco executive member card. Good idea, hang onto it until it acts up. By then this LCD may be 1799 or lower, or the 50" will be available. swinnydon 11-08-06, 11:17 AM I left mine on overnight by accident (turned the PC off and forgot about the TV) and when I turned it off this morning, the Lamp LED was flashing. Anybody else have this before and is it an indication that the lamp's about to go?! Gyoza 11-08-06, 01:59 PM I left mine on overnight by accident (turned the PC off and forgot about the TV) and when I turned it off this morning, the Lamp LED was flashing. Anybody else have this before and is it an indication that the lamp's about to go?! hmm, that sounds odd. Does it turn back on? I dont see how leaving the TV on for an extended period would kill the lamp, besides normal wear and tear. Since the lamp is technically just a light bulb, i dont think there is anyway for the TV to know when its "about to go". In those cases where the TV has been operating for an extended period, just make sure to turn it off when your done :-) and let the fan cool the bulb before turning the set back on. swinnydon 11-08-06, 02:04 PM Don't know, I had to leave for work :-( Will find out later this evening I guess! snowave 11-14-06, 02:16 AM Just got this TV last week from Costco.xxx.. after reading reviews here and in other places.. my only big concern was the issue wiht the loud fan/ optical assembly area.. well, sure enough I am one of the lucky ones with a really loud hum. I called Sharp and sure enough, the replacement part has been on backorder for some time, and they can give me no idea when it will be available. I took the risk and lost, but I'm basically only out the hassle taking it back. I'm not comfortabel with the idea that they are abandoning DLP's and that this unit is not in production anymore. it's a shame, because the picture and Set itself is pretty damn nice. So I have decided to take it back. We went to Costco the other day and I got pretty happy with the Mitsubishi 62530 (62" LCD rear projection).. It looked pretty nice in the store and I played with it for a bit. $1799 and it comes with a nice stand. Not many reviews on this since it appears to be new, but any input would be apprecited. I realize it is a little soft on features, but I'm not real picky about all the gadgets that I would likely never use anyway. RascalMJ 11-29-06, 01:21 PM What is you could get this sharp for $999.99 Would it be worth a shot? dclaryjr 11-29-06, 02:55 PM Sharp had my set picked up by a freight company last week--just waiting for the check. Meanwhile I'm really enjoying my JVC 56-inch 1080P HD-ILA. The Navy Exchange matched a BB advertisement for $1999. I'm a happy camper! :) :) Nebulatig 12-01-06, 09:09 PM I have one of these coming to me in February, but I will need a DVD Player to go along with it. I noticed that the set included the "Faroudja DCDi" technology. Is this the upconverting technology? If so, does this mean I no longer need an up-converting DVD Player? I was considering the Oppo, but if I don't need it, then does anyone have suggestions on another DVD player? Thanks! Old Post but I have the same question and didnt see an answer. Anyone? c4vicious 12-04-06, 11:40 AM I've had this tv for awhile now and I'm having trouble displaying 480p from my Nintendo Wii through the component inputs. I called Sharp and was told that the component inputs do accept 480p, but he also said he could be wrong. Has anyone else had any problems with 480p through component? bobdee74 12-04-06, 11:52 AM I have been having problems with my Samsung upconverting DVD and my X-box 360 through my component inputs. Sometimes during a crescendo of sound, the screen goes black and all you can see is the COMP1 or COMP2 red lettering on the screen. The other issue I have noticed is a red dot trail down the middle of the screen during some dark scenes. I am packing her up and taking her back to Costco first thing Saturday morning. I do like the JVC HD-ILA that is available in 56" or 61", the Costco version is $1999 but is missing some features such as center speaker substitute and PC input. The JVC is 1080P and currently both sizes are on sale at BB...it's been real but the problems I am having are impossible to ignore and the jump to 1080P can't be avoided. It's too bad because I have received a ton of compliments on this TV, I think that the design should be complimented but Sharp's future lies outside of the DLP realm. borrillo 12-15-06, 12:23 AM As Kramer said, "I'm Out!!!" Was it ever fixed???? you wrote "I left mine on overnight by accident (turned the PC off and forgot about the TV) and when I turned it off this morning, the Lamp LED was flashing. Anybody else have this before and is it an indication that the lamp's about to go?!" Very similiar issue, same result. I was watching Beerfest from my laptop to the TV/HDMI. Forgot to plug in the laptop. When the battery died while watching it, the TV went black as the laptop powered off. It was late and I just went to bed after unplugging the laptop as the move was pretty bad. Next day, TV dead. I'm going to spend more time on this. As the bulb was already replaced and didn't fix the problem. I bet some input switching dohicky inside the TV thinks its still receiving the laptop signal and won't switch off for some reason. I'm going to try and rehook the laptop and push a signal to it. Maybe it will push the TV lamp back on?? I'll give it a shot. Other than that... goodbye Sharp TV my old 9 month pal... boo hooo sniff sniff... swinnydon 12-15-06, 01:11 AM hey borrillo, Turned out to be a non-issue with mine in end since the tv's been running fine since. The lamp LED does flash whenever I turn off the tv on though and my gf said that it the picture didn't come on yesterday. She power-cycled it at the mains and it recovered. Probably take it back to Costco soon too. Off there tomorrow night to see what deals they have on right now! Christopher borrillo 12-15-06, 08:19 AM Thanks for the quick reply. I tried unplugging it and waiting a couple before plugging back in.... I'll try one more time tonight w/ the laptop, then its onto a new set... Happy Holidays!
