View Full Version : Battlestar Galactica on Universal HD - No SciFi Spoilers please.
Normally I would agree with you but in this case any other forum on BSG is filled with spoilers for those of us who waited for the HD version on UHD.
That's a very good point that I didn't think of.
humdinger70 04-23-07, 03:08 AM Can anyone confirm or deny that the S3 episodes now running on UHD have the same footage as shown on Sci-Fi? I'm worried that they're cutting scenes to fit into the one-hour time slot.
I am really interested in what happens (or will happen) when the final episode of S3 shows up on UHD, because it ran a couple of minutes long on Sci-Fi.
GutBomb 04-23-07, 10:10 AM i believe it only ran long because of extra commercials.

I watch them both places and haven't noticed any change in content from one network to the other. If there were any differences, they'd be prominently noted out in the blogosphere.

Same here, probably would have noticed them by now. I don't think the 'bonus scenes' get ported over to UHD, but since I generally set my DVR to follow the guide settings, I can't be positive.

IrmoGamecoq 04-23-07, 11:31 AM Pretty good episode this week.
Not sure where they're going with it, but the protracted Apollo/Starbuck angst is getting a little lame. As if their spouses wouldn't have noticed their anguished stares at each other from across the bar?
Maybe Dualla and Sam just need to get together to even the score?
Also, should I know who "Joe" is? I think that was the name of the bar, and I'm assuming "Joe" was the older guy tending bar. He looked sorta familiar so that's why I ask.
Btw, I was watching TNT-HD's airing of "Walking Tall" and was surprised to see Chief portray a crooked casino dealer. :)
archiguy 04-29-07, 03:10 PM I just happened upon this bottle of "Caprica Cambria Pinot Noir" the other day in the wine store. I do believe this might be the offical wine of BSG!

I think you've been drinking too much wine there Arch... :p
Bill Shakespeare 04-29-07, 03:40 PM It was probably covered in the Sci-Fi thread, but I'm not reading it, did anyone notice that the the Sagitarran refugee housing issue was part of the "previously on BSG" opening? Of course it wasn't previously on BSG, but must have been among deleted scenes in an earlier episode. I'm just glad there was no rat infestation with the refugees. Dr. "Willard" would have known how to handle it however.

Yes, I think we did talk about that, it was as if we missed an episode or something, it was a bit strange.

Wait a minute.. That wine isn’t New Caprica?? Geez, how old is that bottle anyway??
Are they going to have the ghost of Orson Welles pitch it with a slogan like: “We will sell no wine, till its waaaaay past its prime??
Yes, I think we did talk about that, it was as if we missed an episode or something, it was a bit strange.
Apparently this was one of the stand-alone eps that Moore referred to as SciFi’s attempt to lure new viewers to the series.
Maybe it was presented as a ‘previously’, so that virgin viewers wouldn’t realize they were being set up. ;) :D

WilliamR 04-30-07, 08:47 AM How long does it take this channel to air the new episodes of BSG? Do they wait 3 months? I am trying to decide if I want to wait for them to air on here and watch them in HD since SCI-FI is not HD.

just do what i do, pretend sci-fi doesn't exist.

Not counting the TV-movie in the fall, you're going to have to wait until early '08 for the Sci-Fi episodes. If Sci-Fi is not HD by then, it shouldn't be too hard to wait a little longer. Having watched both ways, I'll say that the HD versions are much more fun when I'm not seeing them for the second time.
scolumbo 05-03-07, 09:08 PM I've decided that if I can't get Sci-Fi in HD by the time the new season rolls around in 2008, I won't watch BSG on Sci-Fi any more and I'll just watch it on UHD.
The SD on Sci-Fi is just horrible. In fact, I'm going to boycott all shows on Sci-Fi as long as they're shown in SD and either wait for them to appear in HD or rent the DVDs from Netflix.

Actually, I've got to disagree with that. I was one of those who, rightly, condemmed SciFi for their horrible PQ in the first couple of seasons, but this last season of 'BSG' on SciFi featured much improved PQ, not bad at all. It wasn't widescreen HD of course, but it represented a large improvement over what they had. (I watch both versions, so I feel somewhat qualified to comment on this subject.) I don't know if they were doing something different in the supply chain, perhaps downconverting from the HD version, or if they just improved the delivery method, but I no longer think it's fair to criticize the SciFi channel for horrendous PQ. Disclaimer: I don't watch anything else on the channel; I'm only speaking of 'BSG'. I'm watching on an SA8300 via TWC here in Charlotte. MY display is a Sony 34XBR910, so I get an above-average HD picture as well.
scolumbo 05-04-07, 11:34 AM I'll agree that the PQ on Sci-Fi may be somewhat improved this year. I'm watching on a HP 6580 (65" 1080p DLP) in my theater room. On my 50" Fujitsu plasma, the PQ is better, probably due to the smaller size of the display. However, I still contend Sci-Fi is one of the worst SD channels, and watching BSG in particular is barely tolerable, at least via Comcast in my area.
On the other hand, as an HD channel, UHD looks pretty good. My only complaint with BSG on UHD is some slight pixelation on fast-moving scenes.
Since I first got UHD last year, I've been watching BSG on both Sci-Fi and UHD, but it's just not worth watching a crappy picture when the shows on UHD are not that far behind Sci-Fi. If I'm going to wait at least 8 more months for the new season, I can wait another couple of months for it to appear on UHD.

MeatChicken 05-04-07, 02:31 PM I think that SciFi - NBC/Universal should take the top 3 0r 4 shows from their "non-HD" cable channels, such as BSG, SG-1/Atlantis, 4400 , & either "simulcast them" on UHD or 1 week delay them, as they do with Heros & I believe some Law & order .....
It would be a Good "gesture" until SciFi HD / USA HD goes live ( I read rumors that may happen before the end of the year ....)
It would also be a great way to get cable companies to carry the channels quicker ..
If SciFi HD started transmitting on , say, OCT. 1, Imagine how many calls CableVision, Dish ect would get on SEPT 1, when fans officiually found out these shouws would no longer be simulcast on UHD starting OCT 2...

While I agree with you on principal, the fact is that the cable and satellite providers add newly available HD channels at their own incomprehensible schedules. For example, TimeWarner owns Cinemax, but we TWC customers have yet to see the HD version appear on our schedules (at least not here where I live) even after, what?, three years? I've got no faith that even if SciFi-HD and/or USA-HD existed, they would get picked up any time soon by the providers.
dad1153 05-11-07, 09:12 PM Edward James Olmos (Adama) and Katee Sackhoff (Starbuck) have mentioned at a red carpet interview at the Saturn Awards last Thursday that the upcoming made-for-TV-movie and fourth season of Battlestar Galactica will be the show's last: http://iesb.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2463&Itemid=99. :( :( :(
IrmoGamecoq 05-14-07, 08:58 AM The last 2 Chief-centric episodes were just so-so for me. I'm assuming these were the "filler" type episodes that I've read the producers talk about from time to time.
There was little interaction with the main characters (Lee, Starbuck, Baltar, & the Cylons) other than Adama and Roslyn, so maybe that was the reason I wasn't as entertained as usual.

I'm assuming this line from that "red carpet" interview is a joke:
IESB: They should put it on NBC.
Katee: They should, but then how would I do the Bionic Woman at the same network, to be jumping back and forth, we have to keep it a little separate right now.
archiguy 05-14-07, 11:14 AM I'm assuming this line from that "red carpet" interview is a joke:
Nope. Next year you can kick Katee on not one but two separate shows! ;)
Her role on the new series is reputed to be an "earlier model" of the cyborg title character, so I'm not sure it's designed to be a full-time role. But, as far as I'm concerned, the more Katee on the airwaves, the better. :)

So much "bionic/robotic" joke material there...personality, style of acting, etc...
But, I'll refrain. :D

I think the so-called 'Filler' episodes of BSG are still 10 times better than any episode of CSI, L&O, or 90% of the other crap on TV.
I especially liked the episode that focused so much on the relationship between Adama and Roslyn. Two specatacular actors, doing very subtle and interesting performances. It's a nice change of pace from exploding Vipers. And the less Baltar, the better at this point. He'd become tedius.

By his own admission in interviews, the episodes we tend to refer to as 'fillers' were attempts by RDM to provide 'self-contained' eps at SciFi's request, so potential new viewers wouldn't be alienated by the serialization aspect.
Better than most of the stuff out there? Sure. Good enough to satisfy our weekly BSG jonesing? I'd have to say "no" by a long shot. RDM is the one who raised the bar, and there's no reason he shouldn't be judged against his own standard.

Well, to each their own. I've enjoyed the smaller, (human) character driven episodes as much as the big splashy episodes like "Resurrection Ship". I've grown tired of all the politics between Cylon models, and especially anything to do with Baltar. There are some amazingly talented actors in the cast. It's nice to see them doing something other than chewing up scenery once and a while.
UTV2TiVo 05-16-07, 01:46 PM I'm usually not a fan of the self contained filler episodes but I was pretty impressed by the latest Chief-turning-into-labor-leader episode.
Even the scenes with Baltar weren't too bad, maybe because his interaction with the cylons (in his head only this time) was minimal.
Chief kind of blew it by letting Baltar know that his book was being read by the public though. Anything that feeds his ego should be stopped!
I really liked the Roslyn character in this one. She needs to be tough on dealing with relatively petty squabbles for the survival of the race but at the same time if they lose their humanity along the way all is lost anyway.

Great episode as you suggested, although I was disappointed by the ending. I am not one of those who doesn't like the character.
nikeykid 05-20-07, 12:50 AM wtf did she do that for? "see you on the other side..." she a cylon? or just nuts? her destiny was to explode?
dad1153 05-20-07, 12:53 AM You thought this ending of 'Maelstrom' was odd and surreal wait 'till the season finale in a few weeks. We're talking mind f*** of epic proportions (including the background music)! :)
acksnay 05-21-07, 12:32 AM At this point I don't care where they're taking the show as long as they do it with the kind of story telling on display with Maelstrom.
Watching BSG as first-runs on UHD is a real treat.
OK, I think Starbuck didn't die. She just went through a worm hole or something. "See you on the other side." That is all.
As someone who just got UHD (but already watched all of Season 3 on Sci-Fi) I'm just going to comment on the total dis-service NBCU is doing to BSG by playing it on the Sci-Fi channel...after watching Maelstrom on UHD, I was completely and utterly blown away by the picture and sound. It was like watching a different show. I don't care if Moore doesn't care about HD, this show deserves to be shown in the best quality available, and the sub-par Sci-Fi SD airings are just beneath this show...
I can't wait to see future episodes in HD...absolutely amazing.
Palladin 05-30-07, 12:15 PM I've been mentioning Universal's past saber rattlings about BSG on HD-DVD with no further word, for some time now.
Now it seems that 'word' is coming. Apparently, an announcement is coming shortly that BSG Season 1 in HD will be released around September 18, 2007.
Dammit. Last thing I ever wanted to get stuck with was a dual format player  , so I'd have to pay two sets of royalties for the same PQ upgrade.
But between BSG and Heroes, Blu-Ray isn't making this any easier for me.

mrkrispy 06-04-07, 05:42 PM ummm didn't they have a copy of the paperwork of Baltar signing that Death Warrant on New Caprica? The next episode (part 2 of Baltar's trial) is the season finale.
When SciFi re-aired Crossroads Pt II (the season finale) during their recent marathon, they did cut a few scenes down. I was livid, but they weren't essential moments. The finale ran a few minutes longer than normal. So, it will be interesting to see if the UHD version is cut at all.

Part One of "Crossroads" was missing the usual opening showing that the Cylons have a plan and the introduction with the attack on the colonies followed by the flight to space with the survivor count. Clipping those segments may have allowed for the extra run time.

Dick Diablo 06-06-07, 01:53 PM Does anyone have an idea when the Battlestar Galactica run on UHD will cycle back to the beginning?
I've been hearing the buzz on this show for some time. With the Sopranos, Deadwood, and Rome all ended on HBO, and with Lost not on again until February - I now have the time and DVR space to start watching another show. But I'm willing to wait awhile for UHD to start the show over from the begininning. I'll never watch it on the Sci-Fi channel until they go HD, as I just have the Family package + HD package with D*.
If anyone can estimate how long I will need to wait to jump in from the beginning on UHD, it'll be much apppreciated.

I'd have a hard time settling for the 480p DVD's, knowing this is being broadcast in HD. My DVD buying habits have dropped dramatically over the last few years, ever since I've had an HD-DVR. I'd consider a rental as a last resort, but probably won't ever get around to it - I don't like being on someone elses schedule.
The HD-DVD's are out, I'm not investing in a dying format subsidized by Microsoft.
I don't see why UHD wouldn't sequentially cycle through all episodes repeatedly, considering the dearth of compelling programming on that channel. Where is UHD in the series timeline right now? Would it be possible to interpolate when the series MIGHT start over, based on UHD's current schedule?
Thanks for the replies.

Danger, Will Robinson! Danger!
Lots of threads have been closed due to discussion of Mr. Hunt's biased opinion. Why do people get so worked up over this? I'm format neutral now after picking up a PS3 (mostly for network streaming), but I prefer HD DVD.
Who knows what will happen with reruns of old seasons, since Sci-Fi is supposedly going HD in the fall. It may be weeks, months or years. I'll be picking up the HD DVD set and enjoying it. Looks like you'll have to settle for 480p.
Dick Diablo 06-08-07, 05:39 PM Well, I've waited this long - I don't mind being patient.
I'm sure the show will eventually be re-ran in HD - either on UHD or Sci-FI HD. I'll monitor the thread occasionally to see if an opportunity arises to jump in from the beginning. Thanks for the info.
archiguy 06-09-07, 08:02 AM Season finale tonight for all youse UHD'ers. I'm a little envious of you guys getting to see this one for the first time. If you thought the LOST finale was a mind-frak, well, you ain't seen nuthin' yet! Prepare to be blown away, folks... :D

I agree. That makes two jawdropping season enders from BSG--the one where they reveal Sharon/Boomer is a Cylon was pretty shocking too!
nikeykid 06-09-07, 10:42 PM ok so.. we know four of the final 5... who is the last?
JMartinko 06-09-07, 11:09 PM ok so.. we know four of the final 5... who is the last?
"It's well known to those who know it well."
I actually think all the season finales have been pretty shocking in their own way. No one does finales like BSG.
Don't know who the fifth Cylon is. Starbuck? Roslin? Someone else? I'm betting on someone else. Those two seem too obvious.
nikeykid 06-09-07, 11:38 PM so the switch was "flipped"... but they didn't do anything? what's the point of knowing before you cause mayhem (see Boomer)? this must mean they will try to fight off their cylon tendencies next season. i was a little disappointed, i was half expecting the ship to blow up when the final 5 was revealed, instead they just went back to their stations.

Romo (the lawyer) should be a suspect here. He's a bit young looking to have "known Lee's grandfather" in an academic sense don't ya think?
vfxproducer 06-10-07, 02:10 AM That makes two jawdropping season enders from BSG--the one where they reveal Sharon/Boomer is a Cylon was pretty shocking too!
That wasn't a season finale. That was the last scene of the Mini Series.
AtogMuncher 06-10-07, 02:48 AM I don't see why UHD wouldn't sequentially cycle through all episodes repeatedly, considering the dearth of compelling programming on that channel. Where is UHD in the series timeline right now? Would it be possible to interpolate when the series MIGHT start over, based on UHD's current schedule?
Actually UHD has done a much better job with BSG, in fact they did run the whole thing through recently starting with the mini-series then ran into season 3 which they also ran straight through.
On the other hand other series they haven't done this with at all. For example, ever since I have had UHD (the last winter olympics) they have only shown season 2 episodes of Monk, not season 1 or any following seasons, they just rotate through season 2. Same thing with Law & Order SVU: only season 4 & 5, never any ones earlier or after.
I am sure its because they must have paid for unlimited playback of those episodes and would have to pay more to show other seasons, but the channel would be more interesting if they showed them all.
I know the really short series they show all the episodes (like Firefly, Sons & Daughters), but not sure about the other series they show if they show them all or if its just a limited number of episodes.
cavalierlwt 06-10-07, 02:53 AM That wasn't a season finale. That was the last scene of the Mini Series.
Right you are! Great moment though, really made me look forward to more BSG.
Great to see the season finale in HD, I hope by the time season 4 comes around we'll be able to watch it first run in HD. Also nice to crank up the volume on the sound system especially for the final scene.
Did they cut the finale at all? I know on Sci-Fi it ran over an hour. I tried to pad my recording of the finale so it'd run extra but for some reason only the hour was recorded, and watching it I was worried the end would be cut off. But it was all there. I didn't notice anything missing.
As for who the fifth cylon is, Roslin or Starbuck do seem too obvious, but that's because there have been all these signs pointing at them. There are seven confirmed male models and four female models, I guess in the interest of balance the fifth one should be female, no? :D
One thing I noticed watching it again was Gaeta referring to one of the cylons as a "number 3". I'm guessing that was the Kevin Spacey looking one. And Boomer/Sharon/Athena is the "number 8" model and of course there's "number 6"... have the other cylons been given numbers? (EDIT: Okay, number 3 is the "D'anna Biers" model portrayed by Lucy Lawless... the Kevin Spacey model is number 5... none of the other models have been given numbers on screen) RDM I believe said in an interview that the "other" five cylons are fundamentally different from the seven we had seen previous to this season finale. I wonder if there is going to be anything to the numbering of them or that's just one of the things they didn't plan out in advance. Because if the final five are supposed to be fundamentally different and even the other seven don't know who they are, why would the numbering include a "3" and an "8"? That would mean if the other five have numbers it's not the first five or last five, so at the moment they were given numbers they were "integrated" so to speak.
Okay, maybe I'm thinking about this too much...
mrkrispy 06-10-07, 04:04 PM It seems like the last minute or so of the finale pretty much showed who the last Cylon is, and it isn't Apollo.
Holy cr@p! I knew Starbuck was going to show up again, but Tigh and the Chief are Cylons? Whoooaaa. I have a lot of thinking to do to wrap my head around that one. Are we going to start seeing multiple copies of those guys? Maybe a 2-eyed Tigh again? And I guess the Chief's kid is a half breed just like Hera. And who's the 5th? My 1st thought was President Roz, but who knows? It could even be the Admiral, for God's sake. Whatever happens, this is television at its finest, no doubt. I just hope we have the SciFi channel in HD before next season starts so I don't have to wait for the UHD run to find out.
Holy cr@p! I knew Starbuck was going to show up again...And who's the 5th?The 5th might be Starbuck? Eh? Remember, she knew the symbols from when she was a little girl, dies in a ship explosion and shows up in the same ship again?
I wonder if the fifth is Admiral Cain. After all, they're doing a Pegasus backstory movie to air in November, and it's supposed to have some elements that will tie into Season Four somehow.

IMO, Starbuck being the 5th is just too obvious, simply because of all those things that have been revealed to us. And I think that the explosion that you're referring to was a depiction of her Viper being sucked through a wormhole (whatever that is - I don't know). But hey, I'm just guessing like everyone else. ;)

I like it.
No way its Starbuck....
She is the epitome of the reluctant hero...
Or if she is a Cylon, she would be the "Virus/terminator/failsafe/etc" that man planted in the very first Cylon design....and has been propagated through time...
But I think she is just a "Nero" ism... "The One" if you will...
As to the 5th...I think we shall just need to wait and see...Roslin is my guess 'cause sh is having co-vision with 2 other cylons...
Oh ans with Cheif in mind...is his baby a Half Breed?
I loved the Whole Watchtower... as soon as I heard the lyrics I cracked up...recognized them instantly!
By the way...in case it hasn't said enough...best Sci Fi series...one of best shows on TV period... and I am actually happy that the folks in charge plan to End the series...'nuthin worse than a great series just fadin' away into mediocrity and oblivion...

It ran between 47-48 minutes (edited run time from DVD recording) so I don't think it was cut, there was one really short commercial break (less than 1 minute) so that is probably where they picked up the extra 3-4 minutes of time to make it fit in the hour.
petergaryr 06-11-07, 06:11 AM As long as "you know who" showed up and said "I know the way to you know where"....the whole episode was shown.
I haven't been watching from the beginning, but I've caught up on the mini-series and Season 1 on DVDs.
I saw a few episodes from Season 2 on Sci-Fi a while ago and I've now seen most of Season 3 on UHD.
All I have to say is ... WOW!
Season 3 was a little slow in the middle of the season, but it ended BIG! Someone earlier in the thread said it would be a "mind-frak" and they were right.
Here are some of my comments about the Finale.
1. During Part I and II, I was sure that the people hearing the "music" were cylons. However, when they showed that dream sequence where Six and Baltar look back in the Opera House and see the Final Five up in the balcony, I thought "OMG, the Final Five are the five judges of Baltar's trial!" Then when it was revealed that Tigh, Anders, Tyrol, and Roslyn's assistant are the Cylons, I was floored again. BSG took me for a rollercoaster!
2. It does seem obvious that Roslyn would be the fifth Cylon since she's in that dream with Six and Athena. However, Baltar is in that dream as well, although it isn't shown whether he's really in that dream of if it's just a dream representation of him. My money is on Baltar being the fifth Cylon.
3. It's funny how the 4 new Cylons had their switches "flipped", but they had no real mission ... yet. Maybe their mission is to unify Cylons and Humans in Peace.
4. That final scene was just mindblowing. The music, visuals, content, tension, and drama was just perfect. You could almost feel the confusion and hopelessness of it all. Then Starbuck comes back and we have to wait for Season 4. What a cliffhanger!

RDM has said they are "fundamentally different" from other Cylons. I take that to be something on the order of becoming Cylons later, that they weren't originally created as such and weren't just plopped into the fleet as sleeper-agents like Boomer was. But it will probably be something totally different. ;)

The last 5 minutes, with "Watchtower" pounding in the background as they mobilized to fight off another surprise Cylon attack, was just amazing. This show so deserves to be recognized by the Emmy voters as one of TV's best dramas, yet probably will get passed by once again. :(
Wytchone 06-11-07, 10:35 AM Loved watching the finale again but in HD.
Is it me or is the pq a bit grainy? I always thought so when I watched it on Sci-fi in SD but so much so in HD.
Just wondering.

Patience, grasshopper. All will be revealed to you in the fullness of time. We're all shocked; but we don't know anything about the reveal at this point. Let's just wait and see what Mr. Moore has in mind before we start dissing the storyline. He has a plan, you know. ;)

philw1776 06-11-07, 05:22 PM The only way the final scene was 'mindblowing' is literally. Moore et. al. have frequently admited that they make it up as they go along. Good writing sets up a denoument or revelation well in advance but subtley. These writers live episode to episode and have no consistency or 'plan' as allegedly the Cylons have. Characters suddenly and without reason behave differently.
BSG started out with a great creative premise and a great cast but the writers were unwilling or unable to do the hard work to flesh out the details logically and set us up for future revelations that would make actual sense in retrospect.
Now, I'll only watch it for the Spylon babes.

Nearly every word of your post is wrong. Moore does have a plan, and has said so multiple times. And has been said repeatedly for this show and others including LOST, they cannot possibly plan out every little detail to your satisfaction. They have no idea when the series begins how long they will have to tell their story. They have an outline, a path of where they want to go. This show has a very elaborate "bible", and they know exactly where they want to go with it, whether you believe it or not. Of course, details will be filled in as they go along. I think they've been remarkably consistent with the characters. To diss the writers on this series just shows you really don't understand how long-form television works. But that's okay; you have plenty of company.

Definitely cleaner, like it hadn't seen a lot of action. Think it's the same model though, isn't it?
The Viper also had no callsign on the side. It was definitely a different Viper than the one that we saw explode. But yeah, it looked like the same model - a Mark II.

Nada, Moore has said time and again he has the main story arch that drives the series, then intra-season archs that cross multiple episodes, followed by individual episode archs.
The problem with season three is the suits gave him his long season with the orders to cut down on the intra-seasons archs that made season one and two so good. they wanted new comers to be able to "pick up the story" in season three. with a buncha storys that would hold their own as individual storys.
This really messed up the feel and tempo of this season in my mind, but since next season will be the last, I don't see why he'd cater to this idea next season.
Anyways, anyone think that maybe the "switch" wasn't flipped? I think they, along with a little help, came to the realization themselves. Remember boomer came to the same realization, but her fear and doubt kept her from fully acknowledging it. Maybe this time the 4 were tipped off, much in the same way that laura is having visions, or six and baltar seeing each other. Remember, god has a plan...
Either way it'll be fun to see how they cope, and are tortured by their burden. I'm hoping for a truly unselfish act in the final act of part 4, where they redeem themselves.
Great on starbuck, wonder how they'll explain the maelstrom away... did she see the green light at dawn?
Also can't wait for space battle royal the season permire is shaping up to be.
Just to change the topic here, since we have time to kill until Season 4 ...
They sure do throw around the five letter word a lot. Every other sentence seems to be laced with the 5-letter word.
With that thought, what other 5-letter (or six, seven, eight ...) words could they use to break it up a little. I'll start with the one they use most often.
1. Frack - as in "what the frack!"
2. Crant - as in "you're such a crant!", aka the c-word.
3. Prassy - as in "don't be such a prassy!".
It doesn't have to be limited to the U=RA formula. ;)

Yeah, didn't Saul fight in the first Cylon war?
We know that the final 5 Cylons are different somehow. Maybe the Cylons snatched up 5 humans and made Cylon replicas, while the first 7 were "from scratch".

Not to mention that it appears that the final 5 cylons are somehow related to the lords of kobol that are important in the Temple of Five, on the supernova planet. Diana had her vision of the 5 final cylons in the Temple of Five--certainly this isn't a coincidence.
But the Temple of Five is (was) thousands of years old!

I agree.... we have to wait for that part of the story to unfold, but I'm fairly certain whatever is "fundamentally different" about the final 5 cylons will include an explanation for why they are older than the other humanoid models, why the other models don't know about and are forbidden to talk about them, and what their relationship is to the 5 priests of the temple.
I thought Cylon models don't age, so those who have been seen for many years getting older don't make sense to me. How about Sharon, did anyone know her when she was "younger"?

Actually, we don't really know anything about how, or even whether, they age. That subject has never come up in the show, to my knowledge. But, considering they're built on the human DNA model, you would think that some sort of aging would just come along with the package. On the other hand, maybe they have figured out how to stop cell death or something, so that they really don't age. I must admit, this question is beyond my nerd level. :p
At first I thought that the Cylons must age, otherwise humans would become suspicious if their neighbors never changed or showed signs of aging. Then again, the Cylons probably figured they wouldn't need more than a couple years to take all the humans out, so why bother?
CPanther95 06-12-07, 07:42 PM You'd think they wouldn't age because of the reincarnation process. However, if a unit stayed alive long enough, I guess it's possible - they just wouldn't be able to replace that unit upon its death.

According to "Webster's New Colonial Dictionary", either spelling is acceptable.
Well just watched the finale last night. This show just continues to set the bar higher and higher. Hopefully season 4 can follow through with a great ending to an incredible scifi series. Best IMHO since Babylon 5.
As to ending thoughts:
- If it turns on Starbuck isn't a cylon that 'explosion' where we thought she died was actually her shooting the cylon raider that she was chasing (didn't show on dradis) then she hit the wormhole to earth. She could still be the 5th.
- The final 4(5) cylons. Are they cylons? If they weren't it would be a pretty cheap trick (but were they not all interrogated on new caprica? Could they have implants or something?) If we assume they are cylons I think the aging issue is a big deal. These cylons as we know are different from the other seven. We know at least Tighs been around decades. If they are the ones in the temple they must have been 'thousands' of years old/reincarnated cylons....OR.....
I think we must look back at a reoccuring theme in the series...the idea that 'what happend before will happen again.' An oscillating universe (which scientifically is impossible based on dark matter expansion model of universe etc.)...a 'wheel of time' like cycle (robert jordan series.) Universe has a beginning->middle->ending and repeats. Somehow the final 5 cylons are a 'culmination' of humanity/cylon and at the end of this universe they can affect/seed the next universe with bits and pieces of their knowledge/guidance. Hence the temple with their images. Hence them 'reappearing' in the universe at a specific time. The series finale may see a 'bigbang' of the next universe...

afiggatt 06-16-07, 03:44 PM Any idea how long we are going to have to wait for season 4 to start on UniHD? Is there any chance it will start along side the SciFi channel this fall?
Season 4 of BSG is not due to start on Sci-Fi until early 2008, probably in January? There is to be a Sci-Fi movie this fall featuring a back story on Battlestar Pegasus which will be separate from the regular series.
Sci-Fi is on the list of cable nets that have announced they will provide an HD channel, but I don't believe that they have provided a specific start-up date or month beyond being on the list of HD channels that D* will carry when it is available. Even if Sci-Fi HD is up and running by January, 2008, besides D*, how many other service providers will have it? Hopefully, Verizon Fios. But I can see the same pattern we have now for Comcast and TWC customers, where some franchise areas with more bandwidth available add the channel, but others don't add it for months or until after season 4 of BSG is over. It does not take a genius to predict that we will see a lot of gnashing of teeth over who has had Sci-Fi HD (and the other more popular startup HD cable channels) and who doesn't.
I won't not expect Univ-HD to start showing season 4 until at least several months after it starts up on Sci-Fi. But if Sci-Fi HD is up and running, even if it is not that widely available, would they even show season 4 of BSG on Univ-HD and risk diluting the Sci-Fi HD product? Maybe they wouldn't show season 4 on Univ-HD until after the entire season was done on Sci-Fi?? We will have to wait and see how it plays out.
help-r-monkey 06-16-07, 07:51 PM Well season 3 was only about 6 weeks behind in UHD. I am sure they will re-run the entire series starting in a week or 2 and play all the way through season 4 like they did with season 3. If this is what they would plan then we should see the first UHD version of season 4 in about 55 weeks

Why would you assume that? There have been times I have wondered about whether certain characters in the show would be cylons: Roz, Starbuck, Baltar, probably the most likely suspects, or at least that's probably what RDM wants us to think.
But I think you're reading too much into RDM's statement. If your basis is that we've already met Starbuck, the same will probably hold true for all of the potential Cylons. Seeing as we don't know who the fifth Cylon is presently, we will be meeting the fifth Cylon for the first time, no matter who it turns out to be.
Now for me the best ending would have it turn out to be Adama, but that would really hurt the whole story, and its too soon for someone to pull another Chase.

help-r-monkey 06-16-07, 09:54 PM I think It would be better if the fifth cylon was NOT one the main charactors, but rather a secondary cast member or a new person they develope over the next year. My secondary favorite would be Tom Zarek.
dad1153 06-16-07, 10:48 PM The problem with that theory is that if the show introduces a new character when the season starts (or in the "Pegasus" movie later this year) it will be too obvious he/she is the Cylon. This new character will be like the new bad guys "The Sopranos" kept introducing every new season (Richie Aprile, Ralph, Tony B., etc.) that you knew were just cannon fodder passing time until they were rubbed out. A main character becoming a Cylon though, that would be a mother fracking twister. I can't wait for 2007 to be the frack over and "BG" returns! :)
Wytchone 06-18-07, 08:02 AM Next season should simulcast on SciFi-HD.

IrmoGamecoq 06-25-07, 09:24 AM Hey guys - What happened to my "BSG Question" thread? It's no longer showing up.
Perhaps it was considered redundant with this one and was deleted? Weird. I had just posted in it Friday night after watching the finale.

It was a general banishment for past transgressions. :p
IrmoGamecoq 06-25-07, 02:11 PM Yeah, yeah, yeah...
Anyway, my phantom post was that I was able to watch the finale Friday night on iTunes and it was frakking fantastic.
Still dunno what to think of that last scene though. Was Lee "seeing" things (did she show up on any body else's dreidas?) or was that really Starbuck out there? And, if that was really her, was it really her.
The comments about her Viper markings (or lack thereof) are quite interesting. I wouldn't expect the production crew to screw something like that up.

THANK YOU...just watched it all...I'm still amazed how great the mini-series is...thats was probably my 4th or 5th time watching it and its still incredibly entertaining...and how much it foreshadows the next 4 seasons of the show...I cannot wait for the Season 3 DVDs...
kpepling 07-09-07, 11:25 AM I'm late to the game and just watched the mini-series this weekend. Now I want to watch the other 3 seasons. Anyone heard anything about Universal HD re-airing seasons 1 - 3? I'd like to watch the show in HD but would get the DVDs if I don't have any other option.
I agree that the three hour BSG miniseries, which was made the year before the current series began, is wonderful. Although I have seen every episode of the series, I had not seen the miniseries. It’s well done, with the caveat that the 5.1 soundtrack is extremely poorly balanced. In order to clearly hear the dialog, it was necessary to crank up the volume to levels that caused the bass track to overdrive my system, a situation that I never experience with properly balanced soundtracks. The problem was exacerbated by Universal HD’s continuing failure to make closed captioning available.
I should add that a DVD Verdict review of the film also commented on the difficult to hear dialog caused by the poorly balanced soundtrack, so that part of the problem is probably the filmmaker’s fault and not UHD’s. Still, UHD should be ashamed of themselves for not providing closed captions.

although I am not the programming manager at UHD. They have been showing the entire series from mini series to the last of season 3 in order. Just keep watching, and enjoy. Also that ep was only the first half of the mini series I believe as my DVR still records any BSG show on and I did not see the second half on.

Universal has announced that it will be releasing both BSG Season 1 on HD-DVD, and the unrated director's cut of BSG:Razer as well, on December 4. (Hot damn, always wanted to see Ensign Ro in the raw ;) ). Season 1 will be 6 disk set, including mini-series and an Encyclopedia Galactica (now if only it was on both HD formats). Season 1 - $100.00, Razer - 26.00.

Wytchone 08-16-07, 01:20 PM BSG: Razor (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0991178/) is a A two-hour Battlestar Galactica special that tells the story of the Battlestar Pegasus several months prior to it finding the Galactica.
So is Razor going to be shown on UHD? According to that Wikipedia page it says it's going to be part of S4 and shown on Sci-Fi as a 2parter.
UTV2TiVo 08-16-07, 01:35 PM I hope it makes it to UHD but I don't know if I will have the willpower to wait this time!
For Season 3 I was able to wait for it and I skipped the SciFi airings.
Not sure if I can do that again, unless they start on UHD before season 4 ends on SciFi.
They showed Flash Gordon on UHD only a few days after the pilot aired on SciFi, it woulkd be great if they did something similar with BSG (believe me, I am NOT comparing BSG to Flash...).

'Battlestar Galactica' news: The show will premiere in early April, Ron Moore will direct an episode
By Denise Martin, Los Angeles Times' 'Showtracker' Column - October 25, 2007
Ronald D. Moore, the executive producer who runs "Battlestar Galactica," is gearing up for the long goodbye by taking on a new task. He will step into the director’s chair for the first time next season as his dramatic reinvention of the hokey 1970s’ space opera treks toward the end. The final 20-episode run will kick off in — you read it here first — early April.
Moore’s work on the show as a writer-producer landed "Battlestar" its first Emmy nomination in the drama writing category, where he faced off against the writers of "The Sopranos" and "Lost." A veteran of the "Star Trek" series "The Next Generation," "Deep Space Nine" and "Voyager," Moore is also juggling writing duties for the upcoming feature films "The Thing" and the sequel to "I, Robot."
About his directing debut, Moore said, "It’s the perfect opportunity to try and do it here with my family — the cast and crew of the show — who have been working together for years now.
"For all I know, I’ll hate directing, but right now I’m hungry for it."
seLast season ended with a stunning revelation: Four of the characters aboard Galactica that have been helping lead the resistance discovered themselves to be Cylons, the robotic race apparently set on destroying humans. Moore said he’s directing an episode set deep in the Cylon world, as well as aboard Galactica. “On Galactica, things have really begun to fall apart ... and the relationship between President Laura Roslin [Mary McDonnell] and Adm. William Adama [Edward James Olmos] is going to get pretty interesting.”
Moore’s episode, however, won’t air until after the show takes a midseason break and will kick off the remaining episodes in “Battlestar’s” four-season run. Sci Fi Channel executives have not yet determined whether the final season will all air next year or be spread over 2008 and 2009.
“I’d probably prefer to see the entire thing air next year to maintain the momentum, to build excitement as it pushes to the end,” Moore said, “not to mention it means less chance of spoilers getting out.”
Lucy Lawless will be plugged back in as D’Anna, the rogue Cylon that was deactivated last season. She’ll be back early on for three episodes, which Moore said will serve as a catalyst for the rest of the season.
And as for that fifth “chosen” Cylon? “It’s definitely been decided who that one is,” Moore said, but it won’t be revealed early. “I can’t say when, but we’re certainly not waiting until the last episode to tell you who it is.”
In the meantime, the series’ fans can get their fix from “Razor,” an original two-hour episode that serves as something of a prequel to the existing “Battlestar” mythology. It premieres Nov. 24 on Sci Fi.

humdinger70 10-26-07, 01:30 AM Does that mean 10 episodes this year and 10 episodes next year? Or (please let this be the case) all 20 episodes this year? Has that finally been decided?

As noted in the press release, it hasn't been decided yet
replayrob 10-26-07, 09:48 AM "Battlestar Galactica's" 4th season has been delayed until April of 2008! :(
Crossroads Part 2 originally aired Mar 25th 2007. Hell, why not delay season 4 till March 09 and make it an even 2 year layoff!
If the powers that be think delaying things will build fan anticipation, they may be in for a rude awakening after such long and additional layoffs. They may find that nobody cares any more :(
archiguy 10-26-07, 10:11 AM Considering SciFi is delaying the start until April, it's probably a good bet that they will split the season as speculated with the first half ending up mid-June. Makes sense for them as they can then milk two more years of buzz out of their most (and only) prestigious and celebrated show while only paying for one. Sucks for the fans, but who cares about them?
Yeah, read that last night on AICN - jeez, that really stinks. Hopefully that will give them plenty of time to get S3 out on DVD, and possibly even catch up on HD-DVD releases?
We've trimmed down our shows this season and we're excited about adding BSG back in at the first of the year...
...I guess we'll still have LOST reasonably soon...
Palladin 10-26-07, 11:10 AM "Network Scheduling battle escalates into dick contest!"
''LOST news': ABC counterprograms the return of 'Lost' to stay competitive with all other episodic series.
Ripley's Believe It or Not Column - October 28, 2007
The ABC network announced yesterday that so as not to be outdone by a 'second tier' cable network, It has been determined that the remaining seasons of 'Lost' will again be split, to ensure that somebody will still be watching ABC programming in 2013. Miffed at the concept that a mere cable network like Sci-fi would attempt to lift ABC's 'brilliant' game plan, current ABC programming chief Wile E. Coyote has announced a revamped itinerary guaranteed to now exceed Sci-fi Channels stalling, as well as to broadcast 'Lost' in the exact same time slots as Battlestar Galactica to deprive anyone without a DVR to make the tough (or as Wile E. calls it, 'right') decision in terms of the 'better' episodic series.
In response, the Sci-Fi network has announced it has determined to re-run the upcoming Razor prequel every single weekend for the next 6 years, or for as long as it may draw any type of ratings.
It is anticipated that Fox will be giving similar consideration to it's newly revamped '42' series, and that insiders at NBC have also indicated that a similar announcement regarding their break-out series "The Bionic Woman", may be forthcoming.
OMG, hahahahaha!
+1 for you (even though this system doesn't support rep :) )
AIM'ing this to the wifey...
archiguy 10-26-07, 12:17 PM Ironically, it's the very excellence of 'BSG' that allows SciFi to do crap like split this final season. They know, from looking at the ratings yet listening to the buzz, that most of the peripheral fans and those who just didn't get what the show was really about have drifted away and those that remain (~2.5 million or so I believe) are the hard-core nugget that will follow the show anywhere and wait any amount of time for a new episode. These fans can (and will) be exploited. They wouldn't try a stunt like that with 'Eureka' or any of their other series, that's for sure; nobody would much care and the show would die upon its return.
Paramount/UPN felt the same way about Star Trek fans, and apparently thought that even a steaming pile of poo like 'Enterprise' wouldn't chase them away. They found out differently though, didn't they?
dad1153 10-26-07, 12:32 PM ^^^ How dare you name "Enterprise" in this holliest of sci-fi TV's threads? ;)

Wasn't S4 originally supposed to return early February '08? Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to Razor (despite the fact that we won't know most of the cast), but given my druthers, I'd just as soon have a couple of more months of regular BSG, and save Razor for a later special.

I think the standard latency for UHD replays was like a season (?) I'm not sure how it would work for a movie though.
I re-watched some of the previous season in HD (UHD) while the "current" season was being broadcast in SD (on SciFi) and BSG in HD (lord, this is a lot of acronyms...) is just +amazing+.
I understand the DVD is supposed to drop like a week after the original airing. It would be NICE if the HD-DVD was close behind (then you could at least nab it on HDM, of course assuming you had a player :) )
I've promised myself NOT to buy S3 on standard DVD, but the HD releases are taking a LONG time.

Historically, it's been 3-6 months behind for UHD, I believe. But with this strike and the split season, nobody really knows how NBC/Universal is going to schedule it. Over on the main BSG thread (here) (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=492989&page=129), we're speculating that NBC may be so hard up for new scripted content, they may broadcast it on the flagship channel.
I just got back from seeing my local theater's presentation of Razor and I won't comment on the storyline because it contains a few spoilers (one MAJOR one in particular), but I will comment on the presentation in general: I wasn't impressed- it looked like it was shown from some sort of medium resolution digital source, and to top that there was no surround sound whatsoever! It was very difficult to make out some dialogue, especially when it was ship to ship conversation because it was all coming from the crappy front speaker. Yuck.
And besides, there were plenty of Microsoft commercials (two breaks during the movie!) for the Zune and Mass Effect, including one ludicrous interview with Seth Green pimping his voice over role in the game, which had everyone loudly guffawing at the end of it. Even he couldn't sound convincing. Blech.
As for the story I could tell from the promo commercial at the end for the DVD that there is a lot more extended scenes that weren't included in this version. Don't feel bad you missed it at the movies, the DVD seems to be the way to go.

Interesting, since I had an entirely opposite experience watching it out here...good surround sound, lots of bangs and booms, ship to ship was bouncing around the back speakers, lots of little Cylon fighters swishing back and forth, great detail on the Draedus, et al. The intro they played before the movie (just Battlestar Galactica: Razor stuck on screen, no spoilers in this post!) with the series theme looping over and over was stuck on the main speaker, so I was glad they went 5.1 for the rest.
Agreed on Seth Green and the Microsoft commercial in the middle - there was audible booing as they repeated the pre-movie commercials although at least we only had one break, and the shaky camera effects during his interview in blatant Battlestar homage made me laugh. Be glad you won't have to watch those that way when it's on SciFi. And the Season 4 preview that they encourage you to watch after the movie is the one already available on Youtube - and that one was in medium def, so nice to see it blown up on a theater screen, but not worth sticking around for.
Definitely agree, the DVD is the way to go...there were parts of the story that felt rushed, and I suspect the DVD extras will help. Worth catching in HD if you can find it, though.

Since my local area's tix were gone fast, I screened this at home on my Sammy 50" 1080p HDTV with input from my MacBook Pro (outputting 1080p, but the DiVx video was not encoded 1080p) on SUNDAY night, and it sounds like it was better than the theater showings: No commercials, good sounds, decent PQ (better PQ than Sci-Fi SD, but I bet Sci-Fi HD would have been better). Friends enjoyed this like crazy, and so did I. The movie was well worth the major reveal at the end. Pretty much the entire movie exists only for the reveal though, if you think about it. I won't say anything more.

How did you manage to score a copy for a home screening with the DVD release still weeks away?
Historically, it's been 3-6 months behind for UHD, I believe. But with this strike and the split season, nobody really knows how NBC/Universal is going to schedule it. Over on the main BSG thread (here) (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=492989&page=129), we're speculating that NBC may be so hard up for new scripted content, they may broadcast it on the flagship channel.
Thanks for the link, archiguy. I don't know if I can wait/hope this thing shows up on another HD channel I already get. Going to start looking into other sources... Thanks!
Wytchone 11-13-07, 08:09 AM Umm wont this show on Sci-Fi on Nov 24th? Or are they releasing it to DVD and showing it Sci-Fi the same week?

It will air November 24th on Sci-Fi, and I think the DVD comes out a few weeks later (The version on the DVD is a bit longer too).

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA
COMING BACK IN 2008
One of the most celebrated dramas on television, "Battlestar Galactica" is the classic adventure of a ragtag fleet of humans, the sole survivors of a devastating nuclear attack by the robot cylons. Faced with an un-winnable battle against a deadly enemy, they are forced to flee under the protection of their one remaining warship, the outdated Battlestar Galactica. Pursued by the cylons-some of whom have now taken human form-Commander Adama (Olmos) and President Roslin (McDonnell) lead these last remnants of humanity in search of a new home - a planet called Earth.

But will it actually be shown in HD? Or will they show it in upconverted SD like they are doing on ScFiHD now?

SciFi HD has done both letterbox SD and HD. The Episodes of season 3 i recorded in the build up to and including razor were all HD. The reruns post razor were letterboxed

humdinger70 12-19-07, 06:33 PM Since I don't get SciFi-HD in my area, what's the word on the status of the episodes for the new season being repeated later on Universal HD (which I do get)?
Checked the website for Universal HD and all it says is "Coming back in 2008" for BSG. It only shows the schedule for Dec and it doesn't list any BSG episodes. So all we can do is check back later.
One of the other threads is posting this nugget
"Sci Fi Saturday returns on January 5th with the first episodes of "Battlestar Galactica" (at 8pm and 12am (ET)), "Threshold" (at 9pm and 1am (ET)) and the premiere of "Species II" (at 10pm and 4am (ET))."
but I can't confirm it on the Universal HD website.

Tivo just popped up with "33" showing twice on the 5th, although still not up on UHD or Tivo Central. My season pass is lit!
Actually with this and FNL going from 1-22, I may considering either using an extra 350 GB or buying a 500 GB and adding it as ancillary storage to the 1TB (well, to TTG from the 1TB to an PC with an external HD) so that I can simply have both series in full HD until the things get settled. Can't ask for more save for season 4 in full detail!
So 33 is an episode from 2005, isn't it? How long before they start into season 4?
NetworkTV 12-30-07, 09:43 AM So 33 is an episode from 2005, isn't it? How long before they start into season 4?
Too long...
Amnesia 12-30-07, 10:42 AM So 33 is an episode from 2005, isn't it? How long before they start into season 4?"33" is S01E01.
There were 13 episodes in S1, 20 in S2 and 20 in S3...
So... we need to wait another whole year for them to go through all the previous seasons, before they get to season 4?
old64mb 12-30-07, 11:11 AM The good news is that you'll probably have a chance to save every episode made. Given all the reported problems with the HD-DVD release of S1, the irony is you're almost certainly better off with the UHD version for now. My effort to outlast the format war has been given a major, major boost by this, even if it means I need to buy another drive; damn Tivo again for not including a Firewire port so this could go to DVHS instead, although at current prices the math actually works out for digital storage rather than tape.
The bad is that at one per week, short of a BSG marathon or skipping ahead when we finish a season, S4 looks like a very late 2008 event. Then again, since it very much looks like we're going to have a split season, by the time we get to the last episodes UHD may be in sync again.
Also, keep in mind the rumors about NBC putting S4 on the mother network if the strike lasts long enough. I'm not so sure I buy into them, but if L&O:CI got yanked back, stranger things have happened. The ratings stunk the last time they did this in 2005 with reruns, but if they beat "Armageddon 2: Choirs take on Gladiators in the Lion Cage", you may yet get a chance to see S4 in HD during original airings even if you don't have SciFi's version.
Oh well. At least they're showing a double feature of Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Full Metal Jacket too.
I have the HD-DVD release of S1, and although it is less than I would have hoped, the UHD broadcast (at least on D*) is not as good. Also, I would rather have the media on discs than a hard drive.

This is GREAT news!! I just bought a new HDTV, I just bought a DVR extender (500GB) for my DVR, and I LOVE Battlestar Galactica! I just setup my DVR to record "33". I haven't found anything "official" that says the entire series (Seasons 1-3) will be aired on Universal HD. Is everyone certain they will show all the episodes? If so, do you have a link to the announcement?

UnivHD has been running ads announcing the re-start of BSG on Saturday night at 8 PM ET. It is not shown on the UnivHD website schedule, but their website has never been well maintained. The BSG episode is shown on Titantv.com and the Verizon Fios guide as well as other places.
However, UnivHD has switched to running commercial breaks during the movie and TV shows. Previously they ran ads between the movies, not in the middle. Regardless of who your service provider is, the picture quality on UnivHD, while ok, won't be top notch. UnivHD has always been a low bit rate HD channel from the source. Still this is a low cost way to stock up on the BSG season 1 to 3 episodes on the DVR.

Thanks for the info. It's too bad about the commercials, but I didn't realize they weren't showing commercials during the shows to begin with, so I'll be used to it. (would have been great without them though!) As far as the quality goes, it will be interesting to see. I've seen all of the BSG episodes, but I was thinking about buying the DVDs (standard), and re-watching them on my upconverting DVD player. My DVD player does a great job of upconverting standard DVDs to 1080p, so it will be interesting to see how the broadcast HD of the show compares.
On a side note, does anyone know what the plan is for Season 4 of BSG, considering the strike and all? I know they have a certain number of shows ready to air, but they haven't filmed them all yet. I'm pretty sure they don't have all the scripts written either. Will BSG be delayed until they get the strike settled, or will they go ahead and show the ones that are done? And if so, when?
SciFi has been advertising the beginning of Season 4 for March. So, the assumption now is that they will air the first half of the season, which is what's in the can. Then, the second half will air later. How much later? Depends on the strike and whether or not Skiffy is on its meds. They were already considering splitting Season 4 before the strike even happened.

archiguy 01-05-08, 10:57 AM There's a new publicity photo for S-4 that just popped up in EW. Our boy loco scanned it and posted a link in the main BSG thread here (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=12682125#post12682125).

Yes & No. You've got to start at the beginning; that means the mini. It's 3 hours long and sets everything up. Then you'll be ready for "33", the first episode of S-1 and still one of the show's finest hours.

I'm actually kinda miffed they're advertising 'from the beginning' and showing scenes from the miniseries but starting with '33'. Not that it's all that important to archive an HD version of it given the filmed PQ, but I only have the edited HD version from the NBC airing and wouldn't mind watching the full version again.
But yes, definitely watch the miniseries first. You'll miss a couple of important things and spoil a couple of great plot twists otherwise.
Edit: whoever created that idiot UHD bug deserves a special place in hell. Rotating planet on dark background is insanely distracting.
Caught the end of 33...looks absolutely amazing...I miss this show so much

They are airing all three seasons on UniHD. But at the current schedule of one show each Saturday night, they'll only get through the end of Season 1 before April 4th.
Maybe they will have a marathon or something. I could just start DVRing Season 4 as it airs and wait to watch it (maybe).
TommyV, I'd definitely do that if I were you. It has taken Universal forever to get the Season 3 DVDs out. I wouldn't want to be in the position to have to wait for the Season 4 DVDs.
timick1 02-06-08, 04:29 PM Any word when/if the movie Razor is gonna be shown on Universal HD? I still have the non-HD version on my DVR (unwatched) from the sci-fi channel. I'd rather watch it in HD though.
thanks
I would rent the DVD before you watch the SD version from Sci Fi. I am still on 2.5 but the DVDs look pretty good.
Why did they release Razor before Season 3 anyway?

Mainly to give the fans some new BSG goodness to tide them over until April. Keeps the show out in front in people's minds. Secondly, they expected to make some money on it with commercials and DVD sales.

How about it? Sure, I can rent the DVD, and probably will, but I'd like to see the HD version on UHD or Sci-Fi. (I was out of the country for most of November and could not program the DVR far enough in advance to record the original airing.) I've got down-rezzed DVDs from UHD's three seasons. I'd like to include Razor in my collection. So, when, if ever, will Sci-Fi or UHD schedule Razor again:confused:?

I got tired of waiting. Direct TV gets installed tomarrow. :)
Crapcast is the most incompetent Cable Company on earth. They should have added the capacity 2 years ago to match what Direct TV is doing. I really feel sorry for those that keep waiting. Crapcast just do not get it. Hell, the fact that 2.4 million HDTVs sold during the week leading up to the Super Bowl can't convince them that they need to upgrade there network, than nothing can.

I think most of those people bought the sets to watch the Superbowl, not the SciFi Channel.
JimmyTango 02-10-08, 04:17 PM What happened?
Wasn't UHD doing the entire BSG, from the mini series to where it is currently this year?
It started in early 2008, i have been recording it. Get home this morning, and it did nto record last night? Shows 0 to be recorded in the future.
Did UHD stop playing them or is there a short break? Anyone know?
