What happened?

Wasn't UHD doing the entire BSG, from the mini series to where it is currently this year?

It started in early 2008, i have been recording it. Get home this morning, and it did nto record last night? Shows 0 to be recorded in the future.

Did UHD stop playing them or is there a short break? Anyone know?

Based on the Titantv schedule, it appears that UHD just skipped a week, showing Virus Saturday night in the BSG time slot. The next BSG episode is scheduled for this coming Saturday. Last night, I saw an advertisement on UHD for next Saturday's BSG episode.

Season 3 DVD's out on March 18th I believe. It would be nice if Comcast gets Sci-fiHD before season 4 starts.

When does season 4 start? I checked the scifi website, but all it seems to say is "march 2008". I was hoping for something a little bit more accurate than just which month it starts.

First new episode airs Friday, April 4th at 10:00pm Eastern. There will be a recap March 28th at 10:00.

TommyV,
You don't have to wait, but personally, I think Razor works better after you've seen Season 3. Some may disagree, but I think the reveal at the end of Razor has more meaning when you've seen all the events at the end of Season 3.

I could argue it either way. Razor is more or less just a couple of extra season 2 episodes and I remember thinking that I wish I'd watched the Pegasus episodes before seeing it. It's possible that if you were to watch it fresh off of S2 you might get a little more out of things from the movie proper.

If you did this, however, there are a couple of spoilers (especially if you end up watching the extended release) that will slightly change your view of how the plot progresses in S3. Normally I'd say you shouldn't do so because of this, but it's actually a little tricky: they're not massive spoilers as they don't really tell you where things are going, just that certain things are not quite as simple as they appear.

My suspicion is that if you do watch Razor first you'll just end up paying more attention to some developments as you watch S3, which could actually be a pretty interesting way to take in the season, especially during some of the middle episodes when it starts to drag a bit.

Not to mention that you'd be among the very first to do so, which might be fun in and of itself, and you could come back here afterward and either tell us that it's a great way to watch it or that I was an idiot for suggesting it. :)

Edit: however, if you do take my crazy suggestion, don't watch the S4 previews that come with it. That would be very, very bad, since those do contain major spoilers.

Hmm, I could be adventurous and try your suggested experiment. I will probably just wait until I complete S3 to watch Razor though. I just find odd that they released it on television in one order and on disc in another. Makes me wonder what the intentions are there.

Razor was always intended to be a money maker DVD. The whole idea was to show it once on SciFi and then immediately release it to DVD (with special extra bonus footage!) for fans to buy.

Universal's pattern with BSG has been to release the previous season's DVD set about two or three weeks before the new season starts. And that's what they are doing with the Season 3 set.

I don't think they are trying to send a message about which order people should view them.

I don't think they are trying to send a message about which order people should view them.

Agreed. The only reason that they released Razor before S3 is that they'd planned on DVD sales from it to pay off some of the CGI used for the movie. My suggestion is adventurous but not Ronald D. Moore-approved-by-release-date.

That said, if you decide to do so and like (or hate) the progression, you should drop Mrs. Ron a note on whatever that board that is they frequent (she's his voice to fans.) It'd be unique feedback, and who knows, it might be a factor in how Razor is presented in the supercalifragilisticexpealadocious complete 1080p BSG experience Seasons 1-4 box set in a few years.

Either way, enjoy.

I'd like to know as well as I will be waiting for UHD's airing too.

I watched Razor this past weekend and it was better than expected...for some reason, I had gotten the mistaken impression that it was mostly about non-main characters, but was glad to see the old standbys (for the most part) on screen.

I noticed this as well. I had never watched the show before Universal HD started replaying the first season on Saturday nights. Now that I have gotten hooked on BSG they aren't showing it anymore. What's up with that?

I emailed Universal to complain about them not showing Battlestar Galactica the last couple of Saturdays. I also pointed out to them how they removed Battlestar from their series tab on their website. I voiced my suspicions that they won't be showing the final season at all.:( I got back this lame response:

"Thank you for your email to UniversalHD.com. We greatly appreciate all viewer feedback about our network, our shows and our Web site. Unfortunately, due to the high volume of correspondence we regularly receive, we are unable to provide an individual reply to every email. Therefore, we highly recommend that you visit our FAQ section on the website, where we answer many of the most commonly asked questions from our viewers."

"rant"
I don't understand Universal anymore. For awhile it looked like they were going to show the previous seasons in order, leading up to airing the final season a couple of months after SciFi airs them. They even showed that recap episode and that half hour thing where celebrities comment on Battlestar Galactica's impact on pop culture. Way to get everyone exited and then pull the plug with no explanation Universal!

I have Time Warner and I don't feel like switching to Satelite right now. I guess I'll just hope that Universal will eventually air it. I'm sure that Time Warner will add SciFi-HD to my area as soon as Battlestar Galactica finishes airing it's last season. Oh well, if worst comes to worst, I'll just buy it when it comes out on Blu-ray.:o

Not that I don't share your general frustration, along with keeping an awful lot of my fav S2 and S3 episodes that I'd like to replace with the high def versions.

However, I wonder if they're trying not to cross program against the new episodes. Did they pull it in previous years when SciFi was showing the first runs?

Any news on whether or not UHD is going to continue with this?

Not the best option, but SciFi is starting Season 2 this weekend (runs very early Saturday mornings). At least letter boxed on SciFi HD gets around the horrible SciFi SD resolution issues.

Check the BSG season 4 reruns - when? thread at http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1048940. The schedule at the Univ-HD website shows the BSG 4.01 episode at 8 and 11 PM ET this Saturday. But this is not showing up on other schedules.

Wait a sec. I posted that comment by Aaron Douglas, and he was making it sound like 4.5 wouldn't hit until April - July of 2009, although Skiffy denied it.

Has there been any other announcements since suggesting that it might be even later?

Me too. Nope it was originally supposed to be in January '09. Then Douglas announced at some .con that it wouldn't be until at least April or July of '09, and Skiffy denied this, then hired Mark Wahlberg to terminate Douglass with extreme prejudice.

Btw, the first episode was good but I wish they wouldn't resort to those "daydreaming" sequences like the one where Tigh shoots Adama. That rings a little cheap and is too similar to all the other "it was all a dream" cliches. It also makes me wonder when anything else similarly shocking happens (like the show-ending cliffhanger with Starbuck aiming the pistol at El Presidente).

IrmoGamecoq

Watched the second ep last night and it was typical BSG:

- Ridiculous premise performed extremely well (with one exception -see below)

- Overwrought dramatic scenes (see below)

- More over-acting by Katee Sackhoff

But, for the most part, in a good way! :)

What happened to all my fellow Uni-HD watchers?

I watched Ep3 last night and it was better than the 2nd. I'm kinda digging what's happening among the Cylon Basestar-ships, but I don't really care for the Apollo-as-politician plotline.

At least we got to see someone other than Kara act crazy, even if she bit it in the end (Callie).

I just think fewer people are waiting, like you have (for shame, Irmo). Most of the real fans have already seen 'em. ;) I noticed several previous participants here who were regular contributors in the main thread during the season, especially now that some of 'em are able to see it in HD first run. And besides, even in the absence of SciFi-HD (like me:(), if any show is worth watching sooner in SD rather than later in HD, it's this one, IMHO.

Yeah, that Tory has turned into something special. I never really noticed her that much before, but she's vaulted to the upper echelon of hotties on the show.

And, "Pad her emmy reel?" Don't you have to win one before you can start talking about padding? :)

You really won't have that choice come January (or whenever Skiffy schedules it). Final 10 episodes - no way you'll avoid hearing the final reveals unless you lock yourself in a media-proof bubble. You'll have to be out there in first-run land with the rest of us.

Oh well, guess I'll just have to talk to myself in here...unless some of you non "waiters" can deign to come down from your high-horse to chat. :)

:D You know I'm always here for you, Irmo. How 'bout that Tory, seriously embracing her inner Cylon...?! I don't think it's spoiler territory to say this sudden turn of events won't have a real positive influence on the Chief. ;)

And don't worry; my gal Katee will have a few more opportunities to pad her Emmy reel as the season progresses. :p

Will UHD ever ever ever figure out how to do 5.1 sound consistently? The rerun this week was in 2.0 which translates into stereophonic sound with my receiver. These episodes sounded great when Sci-Fi HD aired them.

Episode 4 was quite excellent, maybe because of the absence of a certain character that I consider weak? :) Well, at least until the end anyway.

This show is really strange in that if you pull back and try to analyze it from the proverbial 15,000 feet perspective, you start pondering flaws in the overall direction, concept, plot, inconsistant character motivations etc...especially from season to season.

But, it has a real knack for absolutely pulling you into a scene and making you forget all of that. There were several scenes in this episode in particular that did that. The scene between Adm Adama and Chief Tyrol at the bar was one (his description of his dead wife's "dull cow eyes" and "stench of cooked cabbage" was extremely compelling). The scenes with Colonel Tigh and 6 were another. Pres Roz's scene with Baltar was another.

That's kind of what I meant with my earlier comment in this thread that the show is performed extremely well.

Season 4 is the final season.

Like season 2, it was split up into two different parts, 4.0 and 4.5.

4.0 will be released on DVD in the US January 6th. And no, no one but the geniuses at NBC-U know why they're releasing it after Christmas.

4.5 starts January 16th on SciFi (I don't think they know exactly how many episodes yet...last I heard it was 11). They're going to air another set of webisodes sometime before as well.

There's also another movie, ala Razor, but I have no idea when that's going to air. Or when the prequel, Caprica, is going to air.

But to answer Bill's question I have seen nothing to indicate that season 4.5 will be shown on Universal HD. Googled it and got nothing.

The DVD version of the Plan is supposed to be quite a bit longer then what will be shown on tv so I would think most BSG fans will bypass the tv version, therefore killing ratings.
