View Full Version : LG LDA511 HDMI DVD player bump909 09-24-06, 07:03 PM yes, it works perfectly! cherry ghost 09-24-06, 08:34 PM yes, it works perfectly! I found the problem. I had the "upconvert" button set to "upconvert" instead of "resolution". gear79 09-28-06, 02:16 PM sorry if this is a hijack, but i think i have a similiar problem. i tried last night to do one the the hacks via the remote and i hit a button that was not in sequence and now it will not pass data through the hdmi outlet, it works fine over component though. any suggestion? good thing this is not my primary player. cherry ghost 09-28-06, 02:39 PM sorry if this is a hijack, but i think i have a similiar problem. i tried last night to do one the the hacks via the remote and i hit a button that was not in sequence and now it will not pass data through the hdmi outlet, it works fine over component though. any suggestion? good thing this is not my primary player. Have you tried the factory reset? http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=6911833&&#post6911833 gear79 09-29-06, 02:27 PM yes, i tried that over component, because as of now, that is the only way i could view a picture. i did not mess with it last night, got a little busy, but i will try it again. i called LG and they gave me a tech support # to call. i'll give it a shot tonight and see what happens. gear79 09-29-06, 11:37 PM ok, i fixed my problem, but i had called LG for a fix. they told me to uplug the player and tv, reverse the HDMI cable and then lower the resolution. once i did that, everything was fixed, and i now had HDMI output. tripp1n 01-04-07, 10:08 PM Rented the movie descent from blockbuster and its not playing on my lg lda-511 can anyone else confirm this, or have any info? rushnar 01-30-07, 11:05 AM Hello, I have an lda-511 hokked up to a sony kd-36xs955 hd tube tv. I have done lots of experimenting with the the set up. Im not sure what I like best , having the dvd upconvert or the tv. Every resolution on the dvd is a little different and does some weird things with the aspect ratio (changes size slightly, cant upconvert 720/1080 a 4:3 disc with out squashing it, colors are different) Having dvd upconvert the pictures blacks look better but are much darker. Having tv up convert by it self the blacks have like splotches or artifacts and if I look close I can see horizontal lines on the screen. Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks greeno 01-30-07, 01:13 PM you might need to re-calibrate for the different scan rates. There's no guarantee that 480i/p will show colors, blacks the same as 720p/1080i. the splotches you see are macroblocking enhancement. Careful calibration can reduce/minimize them, but not fully remove them as they are a feature of the chipset. jeff zrdb 03-26-07, 01:13 PM Here's an interesting bit of information that might be of interest to LDA-511 owners: I noticed that my unit was leaving scuff (or rub) marks on the bottom of discs that I loaded into it and it sounded like it was having trouble loading. I was gonna get another player when I decided to try to repair it myself. Basically-in the loading mechanism (which is pretty robust) there is a rubber roller-and dvds are not perfectly clean-over a period of -say a year- the roller gets oils and other residue on it and starts slipping. What has to be done is to diassemble the unit-take off the cover-unplug the media card reader and the power supply from the main board and remove both of these cause you'll need the room. Now-there are 2 wired connections and 2 ribbon connections to the drive-unplug them-remove the 4 screw holding the drive, pull the front bracket off the drive and the give the drive a pull backwards to disengage it from the front panel. Remove the 4 small screws on the top of the drive cover-take it off-there is one more screw holding the loader in-take the loader out and turn it over-you'll see the roller. Clean it throughly with cotton swabs and a cleaner like alochol. Reassemble. Problem cured-you might have to do this once a year or so depending on how often you use the player. Hope this helps. igsolt 03-26-07, 01:44 PM zrdb, thanks for info When you disassemble the unit, you saw that media card reader, right? What type of connection it have? What do you think is it possible to replace that card reader with some other one. I think there is a problem with built in reader, it can only read cards up to 1GB. All bigger sizes like 2 or 4 GB make it scan forever. zrdb 03-26-07, 02:34 PM It's just a small wired plug in connector-I wouldn't try to change it as it is unique to this player-the only reason that I advise to remove it when you diassemble the unit is so you have enough room to manuver the drive around when you take it out to clean the roller. Thanks Try this. http://www.hqv.com/benchmark.cfm brettwf 07-25-07, 11:15 AM I just bought a 511 thru 2nd Turn electronics (DealTree) for $35 shipped. There are several more selling this wk if anyone is interested but none of the ones that I checked had remotes. The one I bought did. Funny thing is another w/o remote had a higher bid price then what I bought mine for. It definitely pays to read the complete listing description. First thing that I will do is check my firmware. If not the hackable version, I will probably be PM'ing one of the "thread experts" to burn me a copy of the firmware to save me the hassle of trying it on my Mac. I will be more than happy to pay for the cost of CD and shipping. Will a hacked 511 still upconvert over HDMI? I may use the HDMI connection with another HDTV until I find another good deal on upconverting players. I don't want to spend "real" money on this platform as I am waiting out the HD/Blu-Ray format war. Hope my experience will be good with this unit. I have been very happy with my 3510 but the upconverting over component trick does not always work and the family gets perturbed at the delay while I am trying to get the upconvert to work. But going from 1/2 screen (480p) to full-screen (1080i) is worth the trouble IMHO. Brett zrdb 07-25-07, 08:27 PM I've had an LDA511 for 1 1/2 years and it's very easy to hack it so that it upscales to 720P and 1080I through componet. Only problem that I've encountered is that being as it's a slot loader-there's a rubber roller in the loading mechanism that pulls the dvd into and pushes it out of the drive. What happens is that dvds aren't perfectly clean and at some point the roller will start slipping leaving rub marks on the bottom of the disc. All you have to do is take the mechanism apart and clean the roller with 91% isopropyl alcohol, all in all it's a good player. Merlin803 07-28-07, 10:24 AM I am getting ready to sell my LDA-511, it has worked great for me but I am going to a HD-DVD player. Any idea how much I should expect to ask for it? It has been hacked to upconvert through component and will include the remote and component cables. scrapdiggs 11-13-07, 08:04 PM I am getting ready to sell my LDA-511, it has worked great for me but I am going to a HD-DVD player. Still one of the best Upconverting DVD players ive ever owned. Plus it can upconvert over COmponent. Huge bonus. I bought one today open box at Circuit City for under $50. They will be hard to find in a few months and should bring over $100 due to their ability to upconvert over Component. ;) LakeMountD 01-12-08, 02:07 PM If anyone wants this player I have one for sale. I'll give you a really good deal on it, just PM me. I have no use for it anymore because my roommate already has and upconverting dvd player, sound system, the works. No reason for it to sit here. kruuth 01-20-08, 11:43 PM Can someone please tell me how to get this thing in 1080? I have done everything that it says to do on this page but all I get on my LCD tv is the indication that it is in 480 and not 1080. Marco T 01-21-08, 12:12 AM Are you using component or hdmi? No upconversion over component with the latest firmware. my 531 does it, but with a previous firmware only. If you are using hdmi, and are pressing the button on the player (only way to switch rez IIRC), then I'm out of ideas. scrapdiggs 01-21-08, 11:38 AM Can someone please tell me how to get this thing in 1080? I have done everything that it says to do on this page but all I get on my LCD tv is the indication that it is in 480 and not 1080. If your trying to get it to upconvert over component you need to find the hack. You have to push like 10 buttons in succession and it unlocks its ability to upconvert over component. kruuth 01-21-08, 12:03 PM I'm using the latest firmware. I've got component. Is there a way to downgrade the firmware? |
