View Full Version : HELP! Panny TH-42PD25 image pushed 1/3rd off-screen!

Hi,

I just noticed that the analog inputs (e.g. Antenna A, Video 1) on my Panasonic TH-42PD25 are pushed off to the left so you only see the right 2/3rd of the picture. Even if I bring up the on-screen menu, it's pushed way to the left. The image is cut off and flush with the left-edge of the screen and the right 1/3 of the screen is black.

This only seems to happen on non-digital signals. For example, when using Antenna A, analog stations are pushed to the left and the left 1/3rd of the picture gets cut off. But if I switch over to a digital channel, the picture is fine and takes up the full screen.

I also tried playing a DVD. I've got my DVD player hooked up to both Video 1 and Component 1. On Video 1, the image is pushed off-screen. On Component 1, it's fine.

This problem is happening in modes Full, Just, and Zoom. In 4:3 mode, I can see the whole picture, but it is still pushed to the left.

99% of the time I am either watching my HD TiVo on the HDMI input or a DVD on the Component input, so I never noticed the problem. I know the problem wasn't there a few months ago. I just got the TV in October.

I have never messed with the service menus, so I don't think I've manually pushed the image off-center. I've tried unpluging the unit for 10 minutes but that didn't help.

Does anyone know what could cause this or how I can fix it?

Thanks,
Jay

This sounds like the DG circuit board failure.

I read that thead. Thanks Bruzzi. In that instance, it wasnt the board, but a software issue.

Thanks BruZZi,

Well one way or the other (DG board or software problem), it sounds like I need to get a tech out here. I can understand a piece of hardware going bad, but wouldn't it be odd for the software to work fine for a while and then give out? It's not like I've got the TV hooked up to "Windows Update" :)

I'm going to call Panasonic tomorrow and I'll let you know what they have to say. If anyone thinks this is something other than a software problem or the DG board, please let me know.

Thanks,

Seem's a problem with the 480i input, you could go in the service menu and move it back, but that would be defeating the problem.

Hmmm. High-def channels coming over the Antenna A input work just fine, so does that still make sense? For example, channel 4 is pushed off to the right, but if I click up to channel 4-1, everything is fine.

Service will take care of it. Forget trying to adjust it away; others have reported that isn't successful.

I just wanted to give everyone an update on this problem. I called Panasonic and they had me try to reset the TV (hold down OK and Power on the unit, wait for message and then unplug). As I expected, that didn't fix the problem. So they set up a service call.

When the service company called, they wanted to come and pick up the TV and take it for up to TWO MONTHS!!! There's no way I'm giving up the TV for two months. Maybe I'm crazy, but I thought I heard there was some sort of in-home warranty service with Panasonics. Does that exist?

Does anyone know of a company that does quicker warranty work in the Northern Virginia area?

Thanks,
Jay

I know it sounds funny, but that's exactly what happenned to my TH42PD25UP. I had the exact same symptoms as you do, a tech just reset the software and it's working fine. I bought mine locally at Tweeter so I called and they took care of the problem.

Wow, that's great for you. I really wanted to buy mine at Tweeter since their service is better than Best Buy, but they didn't have it in stock, so I got it from Best Buy.

Does anyone else know of someone in the D.C. area that does in-house warranty service? It sounds like this is an easy problem to fix.

Thanks

Well, I had the same problem twice. The Tv was about two months old whenThe first time they took my Tv to the shop and I had to wait for a month for the DG Board.

Called Panny about three times until I got a manager and the board came in two day later.

They replaced the board. About 2 months later it happened again.

I told them to order the board and bring it out to install it in my house. No way were they going to take the Tv for a month again. HD worked

If it happens again...They can replace the whole Tv with a new model

Wow, seems like this has happened to a lot of people. But some people say it's a software problem and some people say it's a DG board problem. Interesting.

I guess I'll call Panasonic again on Monday to see if anyone can come out and reset the software. If that doesn't work, then I guess it will need a new DG board.

I'm almost willing to just do nothing about it. Since I never use the analog inputs, it doesn't really affect me. The HDMI and component inputs are just fine.

I feel bad for y'all that have to put up with this. Up to two months of repair time is very unreasonable, especially for such an expensive purchase. I would surely raise a stink about it and be persistant as h*ll.

Sounds like you are already doing what you should do.

Unfortunately, consumer issues are separated from the broadcast service areas and need to be handled by their own service network.

The broadcast units do not have built in tuners so there is no service history for this problem.

If need be, call 1-800-211-PANA (7262) and ask to speak to a manager.

I assume that resetting the software involves more than just resetting the TV to its factory defaults by holding down the Power and OK buttons. Is this correct? Is it possible for me to reset the software or do you need a technician?

Here's an update: I called Panasonic again and they confirmed that warranty service should be performed on-site for TVs my size (I have a 42" plasma). They gave me the number for a different service center and this one said they would do the service at my house.

I mentioned that some people have had the DG board replaced and others have had the software reset. He seemed to think it was a software problem.

They are coming out next Wednesday. I'll post back to let you know what happens.

Don't have experience with Sears (Especially about Warranty) but you should definitively try to return it. I would go even further and ask for a newer Model like the TH-42PD50U (If that's not an issue for you) and explain that since you are far from an authorized Dealer, you don't want to take a chance again since It's a commun problem with this Model and that could happen again and blah, blah, blah !!! ;) :D

You can add me to the growing list of people who have 1/3rd of their screen shifted to the left on all standard definition feeds (tivo, vcr, ant A SD channels), but looks great on all HD feeds (dvd component, ant A HD channels).

Unfortunately, I am one of the few that had this happen to them on month 15, just after the warranty has expired. And no, I do not have an extended warranty.

I have accessed the service menu, and tried adjusting things there (before finding this thread), and that didn't work.

I have downloaded the firmware and updated my Panasonic (TH-37PD25U/P) from 5.0.2 to 6.8.4 and that didn't work.

I have reset it with the Power - OK buttons held down simultaneously on the front panel. That didn't work.

I don't know exactly what everyone means when they say that the serviceman updated the software, but I was guessing it was the firmware. If you have had this done, did the serviceman unplug the machine, and put an SD card inside your unit in the back next to the cablecard slot? Turn it on, and take about 5 minutes while it updates?

If not, I'd really like to know how he did it.

As for the DG Board (part # TNPA3177 ), they cost currently $617 from Panasonic, but they will not sell me one because I need an authorization code. I can't get an authorization code unless I'm an authorized service center. So, I called the service center that Panny told me to call, and they said they do not like to work on plasmas.

Either way, $617 + tax + serviceman is awfully close to the $1250 current price for a new display, so I might not go that route.

The other choice that may work is to purchase one of these:

HDTV UpConverter (HDUP1500) by ADS Tech

I can find them for under $300, so that might work.

The only other thing that may worker is feeding my tivo into a computer with Dscaler, and outputting it via DVI to HDMI and seeing if that works.

Any comments?

Thanks in advance...

crabbon , unfortunately I don't know which type of firmware Panasonic uses. And I wouldn't waist the money buying the DG Board as in most cases only the software update can fix the problem.

The only advice I can give you is to try finding another Service Center on your area or perhaps ask members that had the problem (like jnelaine) to provide you the name of the Service Center they used so you can contact them and try to get more info about software version and how it can be done. Yes, I know it'll be somewhat dificult to get this kind of information but it doesn't hurt to try.

Bruzzi,

Thanks for putting up that excellent website with the screenshot of the Panny with the image shifted.

I am getting the feeling that some service centers paid for the DG board, replaced it, and it probably didn't fix it (reading between the lines) and then they did the software update. Maybe Panasonic is getting wise and starting to recommend the software update first.

Any idea how much it'll be to have a service center come out and do the "software update". I'm guessing it shouldn't take more than an hour (probably 30 minutes max, if they know what they are doing).

I'll try to get the number of a service center that has done this work. That would help a lot.

I've tried calling Panasonic, but because it's 3 months out of warranty, they wanted me to call the local service center. So much for customer support.

If you've had this problem, and got it fixed, can you tell me what firmware you are using currently?

Actually, does anybody know how to get the firmware version? I know how to do it using the SD Card, but can not seem to find the version number in any of the service menus or ...

wait, I just tried the "hold down OK on plasma, and press power for 3 seconds" That seems to give you the firmware version number. It's in red in the bottom right corner. Mine is 06.08.04. The number above it in red is 01.00.16 (anybody know what this is?).

Anyway, if anybody can verify a firmware version on a "fixed unit", that would greatly aid me in fixing mine.

So far, I still haven't found out how one does a software reset on this plasma. Nor if a firmware update is the same thing.

I'm hoping to call Panasonic, and hopefully get someone willing to help me out a little bit.

The local repair shops (only 2 within 100 miles) are rarely open (4 days a week) or have little experience with plasma's.

I almost purchased the ADS Tech upconverter thing, knowing that will somewhat fix the problem, but I didn't after reading about how several people got this fixed by just having a tech do a software reset.

The problem is fixed!

I visited a local electronics store, with a printout of the problem (picture of screen). One person in the shop had seen the problem prior, and told me that I needed a certain part that would be used to fix the problem. He even had one there, but didn't know if it was still good, and said that I should call up Panasonic to see if they would extend the warranty to cover this repair.

So, I called up Panasonic, and after several hoops, they said they would cover it, if I paid to have an evaluation done. I thought about it a lot, and didn't want to spend money on the evaluation when the part to fix my plasma would be less than $40 (probably less than an evaluation).

Instead of doing the eval, I ordered the part, and sure enough, it worked. Following is what you need to do if you have this problem:

Order Panasonic Part # TNPX25JIG
Cost should be between 20 and 40 bucks.
When you get the part, instructions will be included with it on how to fix it.

To make sum up the instructions:

1) Remove one screw in the back of the plasma in the top left to access connector PA23.
2) Plug in the EEPROM (the part # above), and turn on the unit.
3) Go to serviceman mode
4) Go to EEP "AREA" and press "OK"
5) Press > cursor button twice to slect "15 9C FIX", press "OK"
6) Select EEP "EX > IN" and "15 9E _____" will begin flashing yellow/purple once data transfer starts. (about 30 seconds)
7) When EEPROM data update is done, the unit will turn off and back on.
Wait for it to power itself back on. (about 30 seconds)
8) Do some self checks if you like
9) Disconnect AC cord, remove JIG, and turn it on.
10) Enjoy, your plasma is fixed!!!

Hope this helps somebody...

crabbon (and anyone else),

I searched ALL over the Internet for this part (TNPX25JIG) and, after finding two websites who sold it, they were both out of stock and no longer available. Evidently, this is just a "Test Tool". Would you be willing to allow me to "borrow" this part for a nominal fee (I'd even pay the $$ that you paid for it; $25 or so?)? This would be great as, like I said in my previous post, I am outside of my warranty w/ Panasonic and can't justify paying $1200+ to get a new DG Board.

Thanks for your help!

I just wanted to let everyone know that the user Crabbon in this forum was an absolute Godsend!! He has been very helpful to the point of discussing this Panasonic plasma issue with the 1/3 offset monitor on his own dime. He was absolutely correct as to how to fix the problem & I did it for less than $40.00.
I bought the TNPXJIG (test Jig) from Panasonic which now stocks this part that at one time was discontinued (I wonder why they decided to restock?? RIGHT!!). I received the part with no instructions at all but, thanks to Bruzzi's fantastic website and Crabbon's instructions I made it through the ordeal. However, I made one mistake of powering off the TV with the remote at the end of the programing instead of the power button on the tv and it locked me in the service mode without letting me have the option to set the sleep timer. Without being able to set the sleep timer I was not able to get in or out of the mode so I reset the TV by holding down the power button and the ok and it reset me back to normal.
At this point my PLasma is back in action and working great. Thanks to all the great people on this forum who have helped. It's because of you guys that people like me have the opportunity to keep from making a big costly mistake in service & parts.
One other thing, SHAME on PANASONIC for not openly coming forth on this issue which, after loosing my temper with the tech guy he finally admitted to me that there is an issue. They should fix this problem by issuing a recall notice! This is a freak problem not caused by the consumer. Just think how many people have probably paid the $600.00+ for the dg board and a service guy to come out to do the repair. Thats not right, especially after paying $2000.00 for their product.
I'm quoting Crabbon's work of instructions to hopefully continue to help others out there with this issue. DO NOT PAY FOR A DG BOARD! IF YOUR TV IS SKEWED IN 480I MODE ITS MOST LIKELY THE SOFTWARE UPDATE ISSUE. YOU CAN DO THIS UPDATE ITS VERY EASY!! CRABBON INSTRUCTIONS BELOW:
Thanks Everyone!!
Mike

1) Remove one screw in the back of the plasma in the top left to access connector PA23.
2) Plug in the EEPROM (the part # above), and turn on the unit.
3) Go to serviceman mode (BRUZZI'S WEBSITE HAS INSTRUCTIONS if the part does not have them as to HOW TO GET INTO SERVICEMAN MODE
4) Go to EEP "AREA" and press "OK"
5) Press > cursor button twice to select "15 9C FIX", press "OK"
6) Select EEP "EX > IN" and "15 9E _____" will begin flashing yellow/purple once data transfer starts. (about 30 seconds)
7) When EEPROM data update is done, the unit will turn off and back on.
Wait for it to power itself back on. (about 30 seconds)
8) Do some self checks if you like
9) Make sure to power off the TV with the button on the plasma! Not the remote
10) Disconnect AC cord, remove JIG, and turn it on.
10) Enjoy, your plasma is fixed!!!

This really works!!

I have also suffered from the image being pushed 1/3 of screen. I ordered part number TNPX25JIG from Panasonic. I did not get any instructions with the part so I followed the instructions posted by "crabbon" and "knackll". However, the TV never automatically turns off and back on. It appears the loading of the software never finishes. I manually shutdown the TV and completed per the instructions.

However, now I only have 1/2 of the picture (right half) displaying when a 1080i with a DVI cord. I cannot get 480p at all. 480i is fine (and actually is much improved).

Anyone have any suggestions? I tried several times repeating all the steps but with the same result each time.

Thanks for all the great information. I have been member of this site for several years but this is my first post.

Just a reminder if you havent solved the issue yet, Make sure you proceed correctly in the serviceman mode per Bruzzi's instructions. In my situation I followed all the steps as listed by Crabbon and the TV shut down just as suggested. I made one misake by turning it back off again w/remote rather than on the unit but was able to correct the problem by hitting the reset mode on the Plasma. You may want to try to the reset. If that does not work something may have changed in serviceman mode by accident. If you can not figure it out you may want to try Panasonic service tech to run through the settings to verified nothing has changed. They were somewhat easy to get a hold of and should help considering this issue should be a full warranty recall.
I wish you luck.

If this is a Motorola cable box over HDMI when tuned to an HD channel, it's a known issue in the cable box that has never been fixed.

Yup...it is a Motorala box with a DVI out going to the HDMI. Somtimes it looks like the pic is wrapping around or there is a black gap between the 2/3 and 1/3. Am I making sense lol.

So it is the box not the tv? I ask because it is a new tv. It wont damage the pic? I purchased it at Best Buy...they will swap it out..........should I cancel them?

I'm not sure if I have the same problem (an extreme case of shifted 1/3) or a different one. Any help is appreciated.

TV:
TH-50PX25U

Symptom:
Entirely black screen on all composite & component inputs.
Sound is fine for all inputs.
PC and HDMI inputs work fine.

Warranty Expired 16 months ago. No problem, I'm willing to pay for repairs. Not happy, but resigned to it. If only someone would take my money (and repair my TV).

Calls to Panny: 7
Clueless Agents: 6
Returned Calls Promised: 5
Returned Calls Made: 0
Number of Service Centers within 50 miles: 6
Service Certers willing to drive to my house: 0

One Panny Agent said, "oh, yeah, I know about that problem. Your picture has just shifted off the screen. I'll call around in your area and get a Local Service center to come out to your house. I'll call you back later today."
It's been a month.
I guess he's not going to call.

This is my first Panisonic TV.
And likely my last.

I too want to thank everyone on this thread for their help. I had the shifted screen problem on my TH-42PD25 TV. I ordered the TNPXJIG part which is a little circuit board connected to a set of wires with a plug on the end that plugs in as described in Knackll and crabbon's posts. I got mine from an electronics part warehouse and found it doing a simple search on the web. The part was $21 and change with $10 shipping. The shipping was steep, but I figured the overall cost was way cheaper than a service visit. I performed the procedures and whamo! everything was back to normal. My family thinks I'm a genius. Why doesn't Panasonic acknowledge this problem?

Has anybody had this problem return after performing the procedure?

Glad to hear that the instructions for the jig is working for most of you.

I know my wife was happy (and so was I) when the tv was fixed with the JIG.

I'm amazed that Panasonic has not put out a service bulletin or something about it, as it seems to be happening to a lot of people.

Too bad there's not a place to buy these TV's that have this problem for dirt cheap :)

For everyone's information, this is how I ordered the test part from Panasonic (as of Nov 2006):

1. Called Panny at 800-211-PANA

2. At the voice prompts said the following:

"Customer Support" then "Parts and Accessories" then "Plasma TV" then "Buy Direct"

3. Got support person on the phone, asked for part # TNPX25JIG

4. Paid $28.12 (inc. S&H and tax) and gave my credit card and shipping info

5. Expect to get it in 7-10 days.

That's it.

And it worked like a dream. Only issue that I noticed was that all of my TV settings were reset to factory (or they weren't what they were before I fixed my set), so if you haven't written down your settings prior to fixing your TV, make sure you do so.

Thanks to Crabbon for doing the legwork.

I am so grateful for this board. I have used it many times.

On Monday, I turned my PANA 42PX25 on only to have the "1/3 screen loss" problem.

Thank you to all for this thread and for BuuZZi's forum. It has provided a lot of 411.

I just ordered the:

Since I fixed the 1/3 screen shift problem with the Panny jig I intermittently lose audio on all over the air channels through the TV speakers. I have to do a factory reset to get it back. Audio through the optical output to my surround sound system continues to work fine when speakers aren't. Additionally, and unrelated to the audio issue, over the air channels will drop off and just go to black with "channel not available". If I change channel up or down one and go back to the original channel everything is fine again. Signal strength on these channels is >80 These are two separate problems so please don't combine the symptoms. Has anyone else seen this since using the Panny jig?

Add me to the list of people who've successfully made this work on a th42pd25. The only trouble I had was the sequence of buttons to enter service mode but once I'd figured that out it was a cinch.

The same thing happened to me last year. I was 2 months out of warranty and Panasonic want to take it to a service center. I bought a HD upgrader from Ebay.
But I would like to get this 3k investment fixed right. This thread gave me some insight and I am trying to buy that EEPROM jig. Panasonic says they do not stock them anymore and I cannot fix TV cheap. No body got it online. I would be grateful If anyone can lease me a jig for few bucks. I will never buy a Panasonic in my life. TV and service sucks.

Thanks,
Jay

Thanks for this wonderful writing. My TH-42PD25U/P moved 1/3rd screen in 2005 after 14 months of purchase. I bought a HD up converter and was able to watch VCR. But now I know this happened to many people like me. I ordered the jig online and company says no stock. But when I called them ,they agreed to send one by mail. I will get that by this weekend. But I am confused about the location of this PA23 connector. Can you post a picture of the location of this connector. Mine got a service port like an SD card slot on the backside. Will the TV goes automatically to service mode when you connect this JIG and turn on?
Any help from anyone with similar experience is appreciated. Thanks

I got the test jig. I cannot find this PA23 connection port. Can anyone guide me to identify this on a TH42PD25U/P. Thanks in advance.

Glad to see so many people have been helped by such a small device (jig). Unfortunately, I see some are having problems ordering it. If, by chance, you have exhausted your resources and have tried all of the above suggestions, I still have my original JIG. Just send me a PM, and I'll get back to you, and we'll see if we can work something out. I would like it back when you are done, just in case.

And several have asked if anybody has experienced any problems with their tv since doing this fix. It's been several months for me, and I have yet to have another problem. Everything is working well.

Hi. It seems that I've got the same problem with the picture shifted left. I've got the Pany TH-42PX25 model.

So does anyone out there have a TNPX25JIG EPROM fix device out there? From the messages above, it's looking like you can't get it anymore from Panasonic parts. If someone bought one, I'd be more than happy to pay for it, or pay for round-trip shipping and return it back to you when I'm finished.

FYI - just got this info from Panasonic - hope this helps you all. Have the same issue on my 37" Plasma where I can only get a 3" horizontal strip of picture in all aspect modes except ZOOM on all analog input signals - HD is just fine. A little ticked that a service tech is charging me 85.00 for the test jig when he returns in 2 weeks to fix. He had better leave it with me so I can loan it to others who may have the same issue and wish to address it on their own.

Mike: sorry tnpx25jig eeprom test tool

Jonathan: Will research the corrected part number.

Jonathan: Yes, the Panasonic National Parts Center located in Kent, WA reflects that the EEPROM jig is available. However, the parts department is closed and web orders are not processed on the weekend. Would you like the phone number to the Parts Department so that you may call on Monday? Also, this part is only available to Authorized Panasonic Service Centers.

Mike: yes, thank you

Jonathan: You may contact the Parts Center at 1-800-332-5368 between the hours of 9 AM and 8 PM EST, Monday - Friday.

Hi folks,

And let me first thank all those on this discussion forum for the help. I'm back in business!

Since it was a weekend and the Panasonic parts phone number was a recording, I went to the Panasonic parts website and entered the jig part number. But it responded that there was a newer part number: TXNPX25JIGS (Now has an 'S' at the end)

I ordered it... $25.44 plus S & H brought it to $34.01. No questions about being an authorized service center.

Was on backorder (hmm... lot's of people looking for these things??) but came in about 6 days.

My biggest problem was getting my TV into the Service Mode. I got the link to BruZZi's site with the Panasonic service codes but I didn't realize that there were multiple techniques to try. I kept trying the first method with the "Recall" button, but for my 42" Plasma model, it was the method with the Sleep timer and channel 124 and so on.

Anyway, once in the Service Mode, I just carefully followed the directions above in this thread to apply the "FIX". [Note that in my case, the EPROM load only took a couple seconds and the yellow/blue flashing only happened once.]

But when I powered the set back on, voila! Everything back to normal.

Thanks to crabbon's info i've managed to fix my 3 years old 37PD25U, after almost writing it off... Wanted to say thanks to this site and Crabbon for providing the info to fix my tv! Also wanted to provide a little more info that may help others as my procedure did not go exactly as the instructions indicated.

The tv I have is the Panasonic TH-42PX25 42" plasma.

To get into the service mode I had to do the following:

Panasonic television service codes
PA25UP / PD25UP / PX25UP :

• * Using the remote control:
• * Press the {MENU} button.
• * Set "Antenna A" to "Cable".
• * Select "Timer" menu and set sleep timer to 30 min.
• * Press {Exit} twice to exit menus.
• * Tune to channel 124.
• * Press and hold {VOL -} button ON THE PLASMA TV. "CHK" appears in on top-left corner followed by 5 letter/numbers (which are the cumulative hours in hex numbers)
• * While the "CHK" is displayed, press the {OK} and {VOL+} buttons ON THE TV simultaneously to toggle between Modes: — Red "CHK" for Serviceman — Yellow "CHK" for Aging —

You want to leave it with the Red "CHK" on the screen.

• * Press the {POWER} button on the remote to select one of the six Serviceman Adjustments Modes.

A. MTS ADJUSTMENT
B. CLOCK ADJUSTMENT
C. VIDEO ADJUSTMENT
D. HDEF ADJUSTMENT
E. VDEF ADJUSTMENT
F. DAF ADJUSTMENT
G. OTHER ADJUSTMENT

(You will also see an AREA selection at the bottom of the screen which you will use when you go to fix the 1/3 screen problem)

• * Press {CH+} {CH -} on the remote to select the settings on each of Service Adjustment Modes. If you make any adjustments to other areas write down the original values before modifying anything. It's easy to erroneously adjust the wrong item.
• * Press {VOL+} {VOL -} on the remote to change values.
• * Press the {POWER} button on the TV to exit the service menu.

Once I was in the service mode I followed Crabbon's instructions (listed below) with the changes I've indicated in all -UPPERCASE-:

1) Remove one screw in the back of the plasma in the top left to access connector PA23.
2) Plug in the EEPROM (the part # above), and turn on the unit.
3) Go to serviceman mode
4) Go to EEP "AREA" and press "OK"
5) Press > cursor button twice to slect "15 9C FIX", press "OK"
6) Select EEP "EX > IN" and "15 9E _____" will begin flashing yellow/purple once data transfer starts. (about 30 seconds) -

-THIS FLASHED FOR ONLY A FEW SECONDS AND THEN REMAINED PURPLE-

7) When EEPROM data update is done, the unit will turn off and back on.
Wait for it to power itself back on. (about 30 seconds)

-THE TV DID NOT TURN ITSELF OFF SO I TURNED IT OFF MANUALLY BY PRESSING THE POWER BUTTON ON THE FRONT OF THE TV, AND THEN PRESS IT AGAIN TO TURN IT BACK ON AND THE TV WAS FIXED!-

8) Do some self checks if you like
9) Disconnect AC cord, remove JIG, and turn it on.
10) Enjoy, your plasma is fixed!!!

- I PURCHASED THE JIG (PART NUMBER TXNPX25JIGS) DIRECTLY FROM PANASONIC BY ORDERING IT ONLINE FROM PANASONICS WEB SITE. IT COST $60 INCLUDING SHIPPING ON 6.18.07.

HOPE THAT HELPS.

Hello, Im amazed at how many happy people fixed their plasmas, I too just got this problem, I can only see full screen with my xbox360 using composite cables, the tv and all AV slots pull image to left. I had my tv taken to a service shop and they called me today saying it was the Dg Board. After wiping my tears "$944.29 incl Labor" I found this site. I will get my tv back ASAP and give this a try, I guess I have nothing to lose huh? I called Panasonic and they said the price is $50.00 and shipping to Puerto Rico will be an extra $10.00. This bites big time, any suggestions? Anyone selling theirs or know of another place? I'd greatly appreciate it, I would like to be among this group of happy couch potatoes..haha.

Yes Panasonic raised the price but $60 will be a lot less than $944! It's definitely worth a shot.

Bruzzi's address is: bruzziforum

This site has a spam control that won't let a person post web addresses until he or she has posted a certain number of messages. The rest of the address is "com".

In most cases the problem can be fixed by using the TXNPX25JIGS.

Hopefully that will be the case for your Plasma. :)

I too have ordered and received the TXNPX25JIGS from Panasonic months ago but I got an interesting letter from them yesterday in the mail. The letter was requesting me to return my TXNPX25JIGS to Panasonic for updating. It specifically stated to NOT use this part on the TV. It also was inquiring as to why I wanted this part. The letter came with a DHS return label. The funny thing is I already used it with success.

Did anyone else get this letter? And any ideas what Panasonic is saying NOT to use it?
Or maybe the price increase is related to an updated JIG with the same part number?

On another note:

I think the issues of the purple flashing must be with the new JIG. I had the same issue where the TV did not reboot itself but after waiting about 30 mins (I was a little hesitant to reboot b/c i didn't know how long the software update took) I turned the unit off and back on and it was fixed! Greatly appreciate the folks in the thread for coming up with the solution.

mpr131,

I received a phone call from a lady at Panasonic stating the same thing and question you listed in your letter that you received. They also asked me if I was a service provider? When I said "no", they asked why I thought the part I had ordered would solve my problem. I explained my problem of the 1/3 screen issue and that I had found a forum on the internet with many other panasonic owners who had the same problem and that the JIG had fixed it.

She then asked why I wouldn't call a Panasonic service technician and I told her that they were too expensive ($75 just to look at the problem). I was confident that this part would work from what I had read, and if not, I was still out less then the service call would cost.

I explained that it wasn't rocket science to connect the JIG and she said "maybe not to you but it is to me." and kind of chuckled.

When I asked why they wanted the part returned, she said there was a programming error in the JIG and that they would reprogram it and send me a replacement. She said they would send me a pre paid shipping label, which they did.

However, in the interim, I used the JIG anyway and it did fix the 1/3 screen problem.

I have noticed afterward, on just a few non digital channels (mostly channels my kids watch so I'm not real concerned :-) the picture does not seem to be as sharp as it was before and there are occasional arifacts that show up. This may be the problem with the JIG she was referring to. Or maybe I just never noticed it before, or maybe I'm having a cable reception problem. Don't really know. It's pretty minor and not really a big deal but thought I'd mention it.

I did notice on the label I was sent that there was a note to "Danny, return part to customer" in the return area. I also called Panasonic to confirm that I would be getting a replacement part and the guy on the other end asked for my order number, etc. and I could hear him typing away, and then he said "yeah, it says here return to customer, so you will be getting another one" So it seems legit at least for their reason for wanting it back.

I sent it back today so I guess time will tell.

After sending in my JIG as requested by Panasonic that I noted above. I did in fact receive a replacement JIG about 3 weeks later so Panasonic was not fibbing when they said they would return it. :-)

I installed the software as I did before, which seemed to update much quicker than previously. After the tv restarted I noticed the "artifacts" that were slightly noticable on non digital channels after my previous update were now gone and the picture overall appeared to be sharper.

So the artifacts and lack of sharpness must have been what Panasonic was referring to as their "programming error".

Everything looks great now.

Hi guys,

Got a th-37pd25 ; no image on the screen - (pdp lights up, black) ; and no sound either. Just happened out of the blue the other day, no pop or anything. Do you think the eprom might help, or am I shooting in the dark since I can't even get sound out of this set. ? Any help would be great.

Capthook hope it's not too late, but try unplugging the power cord from the back of the tv for about 2 seconds and then plug back in. This has worked for me when I have had the same type of problems, especially the lack of sound issues that occur sometimes but only on digital channels. I have also had the no image problem though less frequently. Unplugging the power and replugging it resets the tuner and seems to work.

Thanks to all who've contributed in this forum. I have a TH-42PX25 and the screen shifts to the left with all video and antenna inputs. Anyway to make the story short, Panasonic wants to charge $90 + shipping for the upgraded jig which is now part number TXNPX25JIGS. I called Panasonic to complain why this is totally ridiculous because it is just a software upgrade and that they should cover this. After speaking to the manager-Alex, they would only offer to pay 1/2 the repair, but I would have to pay to get a licensed service technician to come and evaluate the tv and fax the evaluation with a copy of my receipt to Panasonic. That ends up costing me more for the technician to come out. I figure I might as well bite the bullet and attempt to do the fix myself. Does anyone know where I can get the jig cheaper? Thanks in advance.

Just noticed this problem with my TV before trying to sell over Craigslist to upgrade to a 1080p model. Thank God for this thread as I almost called a service tech. Pushed image on 480i sources only. I have been running cable over HDMI and DVD at 480p for quite some time so I never noticed the problem.

Anyone willing to let me borrow the JIG? I will cover the shipping both ways and throw a $20 on the return for the good gesture. If not, where can I find this part? I have searched all over the internet with no luck.

:Thanks to everyone for their input and instructions on fixing this problem. However, for the amateur like myself, I'm not sure to follow panasonic's included directions or DOUG8867's and Crabbon's. I already have the jig ordered from Panasonic for $63 incl. shipping but want to make sure and not screw things up. I already know I have to remove the cover and connect the jig, but from there on, not sure what I have to do next. Do I go to the servicemode by following DOUG8867's instructions and complete his detailed instructions, use Panasonic's included instructions, or do both. Here is Panasonic's included instructions:

Procedure to copy data:
1-Enter to service mode and display service menu.
2-Select "AREA" dac and then press ACTION button on remote to enter. Press VOL right/left to select one of the following options then press ACTION:
*Select ALL to copy all main EEPROM data.
*Select ADJ to copy only adjustment data.
*Select FIX to copy only fix data.
3-To copy data from main EEPROM to JIG, select "IN->EX" DAC and press ACTION button on remote.
4-To copy data from JIG to main EEPROM, select "EX->IN" DAC and press ACTION button on remote.

Please I NEED help. Not sure what to do and my kids wants to be able to watch their dvds in full screen. Thanks in advance.

I have helped people out with a JIG in the past, but only as a last resort. Basically, a good size deposit is sent to me via PayPal, and when I get the JIG back, I PayPal them back all but a certain amount (which is usually close to what a fair priced JIG should cost). Hence, I recommend just buying your own. But, if for some reason one can NOT locate a place to buy... and being that you only need to use it once... one could send me a private IM, and you can basically rent the JIG for about the price of a JIG (about $35). I'm not sure why someone on here said Panasonic wanted $90 for the JIG. That's way more than what the original price was.

I'm not trying to make money on this, but rather something to cover shipping and handling, and my gas and time to drive to the post office box, etc.

Also, I provide a copy of the instructions (which is similar to what I've posted here in the past), but I do not provide phone support. So far, everyone who's gotten the JIG from me, it has worked. But, I do not guarantee that it'll work for you.

Best regards.

Just a little FYI, looks like HunterH and johnnieO both have their plasmas in working condition again. The JIG fixed both.

I really think this should be something that Panasonic should fix outside of warranty, being that the issue is a buggy firmware. But, apparantly johnnieO called them and they told them it was not in their knowledgebase. I doubt that, based on my experience.

Sand1man: Did you end up with a tech visit? Based on your description, I do not know if the JIG will work for your situation. So far, all of the people that the JIG has worked for has had the exact same problem: Image shifted to right/left on low-def inputs. I'd be interested to see what happens.

QUick update, as confirmed by Panasonic today. I just ordered the Test Jig from them, $50 + shipping/tax, came out to $63 and change.

The NEW part number is TNPEEPJIGS, this was confirmed by the rep on the phone, i gave him the old number (TNPX25JIGS) and he informed me that the current number is TNPEEPJIGS. Strangely it does NOT come up on the Panasonic Parts website either via part # search or parts for the specific model TV.

Now we'll see if i can fix the TH37PX25.

Hi all, i just fixed this and all the analog inputs work just fine. Now the problem is that somehow the new firmware let the cable box know that the HDMI port was not HDCP compliant, and now we have to run th e cable box through the component outputs. Anyone know any way around this? I think its stupid not to be able to use the HDMI port that was working FINE before the "fix".

12-26-07, 02:47 PM
Sorry to hear about the HDMI port problems.

I have a Tivo S3 setup with HDMI to my plasma, and didn't have the problem you mentioned.

That's right, you used the new TNPEEPJIGS instead of the TNPX25JIGS. Maybe that firmware update caused what you see.

Something to think about, and I don't know if you could back rev it to the one in the TNPX25JIGS. My guess is that you can, as firmware doesn't know that one is newer or not when you're updating. Just a guess though.

Either way, because of your post, I'm not going to update mine to the newer version, being that mine works just fine as is.

Thanks for the info.

Hi, all

Just found out this forum today and spent a few hours to read all. Wow! I was not the only one....

Thank all of you for all the information. Glad to know there is a way to fix.

Papercutninja, have you fixed your HDMI port problem yet? I did find one online store ("partstore" 866-925-PART) who sells TNPEEPJIGS. It is $71.43 pls shipping (free shipping over $75).

Like everyone, I tried to find TNPX25JIGS online, but no success. I will call Panasonic tomorrow and see what happens....

Just so you know, I've had great success "lending" out the JIG that I originally used.

Basically, the format goes something like this:

You contact me via PM (Private Message) on this board.

I confirm your issues is one that I believe the JIG will fix.

We agree upon the terms, I send you the JIG, and you return it when done.

Again, this is only if you can't find the JIG and wish to use me as a last resort.

I called Panasonic this morning and was told they no longer have TXNPX25JIGS as Papercutninja said. So I went ahead and ordered TNPEEPJIGS for $50 (+shipping, total $63.74) before crabbon's message was posted. As soon as I saw it, I called Panasonic back and try to cancel my order..... no luck. They didn't let me get out of it.

Thanks crabbon for offering me to borrow yours.... I should have waited a little longer to place an order.... :(

Well I will let everyone know how it goes with this new jigs and crabbon, I may have to borrow yours if this does not fix the problem. I just wonder if there is any way not to update HDMI port but all the other.... Any ideas?????

As it turns out, the cable box got screwed up somehow. The HDCP "handshake" got all screwy after the firmware was updated. I ended up having to switch out the cable box. I wouldn't worry too much about the firmware fix, as the PX25 series IS HDCP compatible.

First let me say thank you to all of you that have posted to this forum. I am the least technical person there is, so the information that you have given has been extremely helpful!

I just recently began having this problem although, I am not sure if mine is exactly the same or not. I have a Panasonic TH-42PX25 42" plasma that experiences the screen shift only when I choose Photo Viewer from the menu options, or when I view DVDs or try to use our Wii. I unplugged all video/audio as well as HDMI connections and performed the manual re-set only to still have the problem.

I was planning on using the TNPEEPJIGS fix like Papercutninja but am concerned about the whole HDCP handshake problem with the cable box. Papercutninja are you using a cable box or a Direct TV or Dish receiver? Do you think that I will experience the same problem as you if I use the fix?

Thanks!

Sorry to hijack this thread but nobody answered my original post:
My 3 year old Panny 42PD25 OTA ATSC tuner stopped working a few days ago. I know it is not my antenna since I also have that connected to my E* 622 which tunes in my local channels just fine. When I try to tune the local digital channels on the TV I get nothing, just the number of the channel and a black screen. There is no weak signal message. The NTSC tuner still works.
I do have a 4 year extended warranty from BB so I guess I will have to put it to the test.
Any suggestions? I did do a search for this problem but all I got were QAM tuner problems posts, not OTA tuner.
I have a BB tech coming out Thurs 1/10. If he is clueless would appreciate suggestions.

The Best Buy "technician" came today to fix my nonworking ATSC tuner on my Panny EDTV. Ha, what a joke - the guy was an idiot. He didn't understand what the ATSC tuner was and kept telling me to take my problem up with Dish because I have a 622. Only he kept calling it the cable box. A total moron. Didn't understand that the ATSC tuner on the TV for OTA signals has nothing whatever to do with the fact I also have a Dish dvr. Also he could hardly speak English (he was Asian).

Thanks,

I too have the problematic TH-42PD25. Purchased new in Dec 2004 for $2900 I was not anxious to settle for a crippled tv or lay out over $600 dollars to repair a tv that can be replaced for $1100. My symptoms mirror the ones mentioned above. I did not notice them before because 99% of our viewing are through the HDMI output of a Panasonic VHS/DVD/DVR. The video, component and SD card reader all move the displayed image to the left about 2.5 inches. HDMI displays correctly. I tried the firmware upgrade, service menu adjustment and the hard reset. Nothing worked. I called 800-211-PANA this morning and ordered the TNPEEPJIGS for $50 plus S&H. The operator asked me how I got the part number. I replied "online". Hopefully I will have good news in 7 - 10 days.

Elmo2008, I was asked how I got the part number when I called Panasonic too. Some said on this forum that they don't sell that part to consumers. As I promised, I am posting how I fixed mine.

First of all, I followed instruction esoh has posted on 11/28/06 (thread# 61) to order a jig. Here is how.

1. Called 800-211-PANA (7262)

2. At the voice prompts said the following:

"Customer Support" then "Parts and Accessories" then "Plasma TV" then "Buy Direct"

3. Got support person on the phone, asked for TNPEEPJIGS (updated version of TXNPX25JIGS)

4. Paid $50 plus s/h, total of $63.74 by credit card.

5. Ordered on 12/27/07, received on 1/4/08

To fix my TV, I followed instruction crabbon has posted on 3/8/06 (thread# 38) and doug8867 posted on 6/27/07 (thread# 95) also went to BruZZi's website to go into service mode.

Trick was to go into the service mode, and after you get in there, it is really easy. Here is what I did.

1. Unplug everything from TV except for power cord.

2. Plug a coaxial cable from cable box to "Antenna-A Cable In" behind TV (my cable box was hooked up to HDMI input and it does not work when fixing this problem. Only things need to be hooked up to your TV is the power cable and coaxial cable to antenna-A)

3. Remove ONE screw in the back of the plasma in the TOP LEFT to access connector PA23.

4. Plug in the TNPEEPJIGS, and turn on the unit.

5. Using the remote control, press the {MENU} button, {Set Up} then {Program CH}

6. From "{nput Set Up}, change {Antenna A} to {Cable-Only} and "OK." TV will ask you to search all channels. Press "OK" and let it do the work. It may take for 5 minutes to scan all the channels, but without going through this step, I could not get into service mode.

7. After all the channels are scanned, go back to {menu} and select {Timer} and set sleep timer to 30 min. Still don't know why we have to do this but I guess this is the trick to get into the service mode that Panasonic set up, so us consumers have no way to get in.

8. Press {Exit} twice to exit menus.

9. Tune to channel 124. No picture comes on the screen but it is okay. Mine said no channel available after a few seconds. Why 124? I don't know, but I guess this is another trick to get into service mode.

10. Press and hold {VOL -} button ON THE PLASMA TV. "CHK" appears in on top-left corner followed by 5 letter/numbers (which are the cumulative hours in hex numbers)

11. Press the {POWER} button ON THE REMOTE. Screen will change and serviceman adjustments modes comes on as below.

MODE...
MTS...
CLOCK...
VIDEO...
HDEF...
VDEF...
DAF...
OTHER...

EEP (this is what you use to fix the 1/3 screen problem)

12. Press {CH+} {CH -} ON THE REMOTE to select EEP.

13. Select {AREA} and press "OK"

14. Press > cursor button twice to select "15 9C FIX", then press "OK"

15. Select EEP "EX > IN" and letters on the screen highlighted purple flashes to yellow then the data transfer starts.

16. About 30 seconds later, TV will shut itself off and comes back on.

17. Turn your TV off and remove the TNPEEPJIGS, screw back the service panel cover.

18. Turn you TV on and enjoy your TV! I also had a problem with component inputs (using these terminals, pictures were terrible...black & white with a lot of snow on top of 1/3 screen problem) but this was also fixed at the same time. Now I enjoy digital picture with my DVD.

If it wasn't this forum, I had no way to fix my TV. I just want to give all of you a big thank you :):):):):) and I also made me decide to take time to post this to help others who still have the same problem. Hope this helps;););););)

UPS delivered the TNPEEPJIGS eeprom service jig this afternoon and after following Goodlife's instructions I corrected my plasma tv's screen shift quickly. Wouldn't you think Panasonic would notify their customers of this issue and let them know there is an inexpensive fix? Thanks for the help.

I noticed the shifted picture issue with my TV about a year ago. I looked online and at the time the only info I could find was I need a firmware upgrade.

I called Panasonic and got the whole story about the need to call a service tech. On top of that the local service tech didn't make house calls and wanted 100 bucks just to come and pick up the TV. So I forgot about the issue.

For some reason I searched the net again last week - and thankfully found this forum. I immediately called Panasonic and ordered the JIG. I got the part today.

Thanks to the step-by-step instructions I was back to normal in lest than 20 minutes.

The only thing I can add is I had my TV speakers turned off since I'm hooked up to a home theater system. And when getting into Service Mode the speakers have to be turned on (or else you'll be holding down the <Volume button on the TV for nothing). Thanks again to everyone on this post whose collective knowledge helped me save a lot of money and hassle.

My TH-42PD25 image is 1/3 left, but then the left 1/3 wraps to the right side of the screen. Thus, the righ 1/3 isn't blank, it displays 1/3 of the left video. Is this the same issue that can be fixed by the JIG, or only if the right 1/3 is blank?

I have the same problem with a TH37PD25UP. I just got off the phone with Panasonic, so hopefully my jig will arrive soon. I had a precursor to the problem, the CINEMA preset was causing all sorts of image problems on 480i inputs. It made the picture look over driven and there was something similar to snow or a bad acid trip going on. The other picture presets worked fine. Yesterday the image shift happened. I initially thought it was the horrible Comcast DVR, but once I found out it was also happening on the integrated tuner I knew it was the TV. For people with a Motorola HD box, you can change the box to "stretch" SD content which actually upconverts it to 1080i. The only problem is there are bad artifacts as the box does a bad job in scaling and a color push. At least I can watch my SD channels and see the whole picture until my jig arrives. It's a shame I found this thread, I really would like the new 46" 1080P Panny. :) I'm a little nervous about the HDCP issue, I hope that it is not a problem.

Hello all...I got it to work!! I followed the directions on Bruzzi's site to the letter and the service man mode popped up!!

I loaded the patch and all is well....

Is there any reason I should hang onto the JIG?...or should I sell/rent it to the next guy with this problem??

Goodlife, thanks for posting a great detail of how you fixed your plasma tv.

Bruzzi gave me the boost I needed to get mine fixed, and as a result I posted the detailed instructions needed at the time to fix my tv.

Now, several others have come along, fixed their system, and made comments. But, your instructions were very detailed, and I'm sure that others will be able to use them to get the job done.

Again, I'm surprised that Panny hasn't made this fix available as it's clearly a firmware problem, and clearly easy to fix.

As for the last person who asked if they should keep their jig, I'd say you don't have too. I've never had to use mine again, though I have "lent" it out to people who couldn't get one.

And someone said they had something like 94 of these panny's at a stadium. I'd be interested in how many have they had to do this on, or did they just go and do all of them as a preventive measure.

I think it's awesome that this forum exists and that we've helped so many get their tv's fixed. Just think of how many have not ended up in the junk yard or demoted to a bedroom rarely used.

This is such a great post. I recently ran into this problem with my newly purchased Wii that comes with composite cables. The screen is shifted to the right. I also noticed that my 480i OTA has pink and purple snowy images that are also shifted.

Please PM me if you have a TNPEEPJIGS laying around. I will purchase it to give this fix a shot. thanks in advance, michael

I've checked this forum for a while after I posted last time, and seemed to be no one was posting anything on this issue anymore, I thought problem was all solved. Just until now, I didn't realize there were new people accessing to this site for the same problem. I apologize to the ones sent me PM....

crabbon, I totally agree with you. Panny should have announced this to the customers long time ago. If it wasn't this forum, I would never have been able to fix mine. This is such a great site. Thanks to you and all the others who posted instructions here.

If someone is still having a problem and there is something I can help, please let me know.

will try to call them again in a few days to see if another person can understand what I mean.
if not, does anyone have that jig ?? and is willing to loan, or sell it to me if possible ? I would greatly appreciate that.

Why continue paying Panasonic multiple times for a KNOWN issue that should be fixed with a service bulliten? Does any member have a jig that they are finished with and willing to pass-on as adampava is doing? I'd be happy to pay a discount, and then pass it forward as well when I'm finished.

Please PM if you have a jig you've finished with. Thanks to all the good posters here!!

Hello all, I have a 2004 TH-50PX25 that did the infamous 1/3 shift a year or so ago, HDTV is fine just the SD side etc... But mine only did the 1/3 shift for a couple of days then it went black. The OSD and sound still works in SD but no picture. I ordered the TNPEEPJIGS from panasonic today for $60. Hopefully this will fix my problem I will keep everyone updated. And thanks to all for this great info I thought my TV was hopeless until I found this thread.

The jig can be used as often as you want... it's simply an EPROM with factory data loaded. You could, conceivably, erase the contents by mistake.

I received the fixit kit from Panny today... following all the good directions listed here I fixed my TV in minutes. THANK YOU to all of those who came before.

Ordering from Panasonic was simple, and I paid the extra 10 bucks for 2-day delivery.

I now have the kit available to pass forward. Anyone who needs this can PM me and for $50 I'll ship it to you DHL 2nd day.

Well unfortunately this did not fix my problem. I received the kit and did the flash, but my TV is still black in SD. Does anyone have any ideas? I know my CURRENT problem is not the 1/3rd shifted screen, but thats what WAS wrong with it a year or so ago, then it just went black. Sound still is perfect and HD programming is still fine. But if i hook up any SD source TV, VCR, etc all I get is a black screen with OSD and sound.

I turned it off from the front power button then back on and tuned to a local tv station and the whole image is still shifted. Any Ideas?

Hello,

I'm glad I came across this Forum...it appears that all that have used the jig have been successful in getting their video back...

I was wondering if the Jig was still available for sale from Panasonic and if not, if there was a kind soul that would either let me borrow or rent their jig from them...

Right now:

Have Video/Audio in:
1. HDMI cable using HD Cable Box
2. Composite cable using HD Cable Box

Have Video:
1. Using RGB input...my computer image looks fine.

No Video/Have Audio:
1. RCA inputs
2. Composite cable using XBOX
3. S-Video Inputs

Please PM if you can help.

Thank you,

Brent

Would anyone have any idea why my Panasonic TH-42PX25 would diaplay the image using a composite cable + HD Cablebox but not using a composite calbe + HD DVD player?

I've really confused...I don't think there is anything physically wrong with my plasma...but I do not know what to do.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Brent, if you are unplugging the composite from the tv and plugging in your hd dvd player and you get no picture, then your hd dvd play is not outputting a signal. Either go into your menu on your hd dvd player and change the output display, or make sure the resolution is 480i if you are indeed using composite. Why are you using composite (yellow) cable anyways? Use component (Red Green Blue)cables and take advantage of the HD!

Hi there,

I've been lucky up till recently when my TV( Pana 42PD25) ran into the same prolem. I wonder if you still offer loaning out the device/jig- I'm in San Diego, by the way. I'll be more than happy to compensate for your trouble , .... but just don't want to give Panasonic any more money.

HELP!

I just went and purchased a Panasonic Viera th-42pd25 from a guy on craigslist....When I saw it at his house, the picture was fine. But when I brought it home and set it up, I can only see about 6'' on the left side of the screen of any channel. The setup screen displays fine, but all channels and dvd movies show only the 6''. I have read multiple posts so far tonight, (the last 45 mins!) and I think I am having the same problem, where the part TXNPX25JIGS could fix...I don't know much about television, and would appreciate any help that is offered...Am I right with thinking this part would help? Am I missing some steps in setting up my television? Please help me if you can...

I have had the same problem as everyone else except mine was at 1/3 screen for analog signals for months with HDMI working fine. Now I get no screen on analog and HDMI works fine. I was able to get ahold of a JIG and i go through all the steps.

At the very end where it flashes to yellow and purple and restarts itself, mine does not do this. Once mine flashes to yellow after selecting and then to purple it gets stuck on purple and the TV does not reset itself. Ive left it there for twenty minutes and it just sits on the purple screen. I tried just restarting it manually but then it gets stuck in service mode. Ive tried at least a dozen times with no luck. Any help you guys can give would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hey everyone. I was at a friend's house who told me when he watches DVDs on his Sony DVD player (using composite connection) that his color is incorrect and the picture is shifted to the left by about 1/6 (several inches to left). The colors seem to be mismatched: blues = pinks, reds = greens. He has a VIP722 DISH receiver using Component cables on Comp2 and the DISH picture looks great, no color or alignment issues. When I disconnected the component cables from the DISH receiver and plugged them into the DVD player, the color and left-shift issues remained. I tried another DVD player from my house with same result. It makes no sense especially because I'm using a component connection on the TV which works fine on one device (DISH receiver) but gives the color issues/left shift issues on 2 separate DVD players.

At this point, I think its a software issue and certainly would like to try that because it seems to be the cheapest route. Has anyone else on this thread experienced the weird color issues described above?

I have not tried to purchase the JIG but figure by July 2009, they probably don't make it anymore and its not on eBay, etc. For those seasoned veteran users of the "JIG", do you think I should give it a shot? Does the JIG simply make changes or can I update the firmware in the process--I'm sure my friend's TV does not have the latest firmware if he purchased it new in November 2004. I would be more than happy to give a deposit in exchange for renting the tool from one of you folks if my symptoms warrant. Thanks for your help!

So I called Panny, they didn't have much for me, got me some numbers to some repair shops. I called them and they haven't even heard of this JIG and didn't know how to help me either. I think what separates my issue from most of you is that when the satellite receiver is hooked up via Component, it works FINE. When I use the SAME cable on (2) different DVD players, the colors are off and the picture is shifted as you describe.

I wonder if this intermittent problem would be resolved by the tool?
