1. You can edit the text from any window. You are simply seeing 3 views of the same thing.

2. Using s in conjunction with x, y, and z should allow you to scale it along any axis and make it fit properly if it is too tall or long. I usually only scale on the x and z axis and leave the y axis alone. If the text would fit but just needs to be moved into position, use g to move it and again use x, y and z to lock the axis of movement.

3. Here's a tip. Try pointing at the window in the upper left. It is probably the easiest to see. Click ctrl-UpArrow. You should now see that window zoomed. On your numpad hit 3 then 5 then 44444 until it is a nice straight on view. That ought to make it easy to modify the text properly.

When you are done, hit ctrl-UpArrow again. Use the middle mouse wheel to zoom in or out until you can see the camera. Select it and hit ctrl-0 (that's zero on the numpad) to switch the view to the camera view. You might wish to change the frame number from 316 to 650 to get to the final frame and see how it looks. Do a test render...

Looks like Fred Cinedome is next on the list. I am not sure that it will look great with just Fred on one line. If you wish to reconsider, let me know. I will probably make your model tonight or at lunch today.

Unfortunately, my wireless router at home is still down making transfers very difficult. So, I will continue to build the list and I hope to catch up eventually. But for right now, I don't plan to do these for a couple more days until I get the router issue sorted out.

Reaper, I've been learning blender and have been able to do a couple of these for friends of mine. I have a question as to the maximum pixel size that can be generated for a still image.

It looks like blender is limiting it to 10,000 by 10,000 pixels. Is this the maximum? Is there any way to do something bigger? I was thinking big, like a large banner printer. At 300 dpi I could only go to about 33" x 19".

Thanks for your input. You are the best.

P.S. You're theater is turning out nice. I hope the chair gets fixed / replaced for you.

Wow, I just found this thread. Unbelievable work reap! Has anyone tried to load the animation files to an SD card? Can video be played on an SD card or only still images? If videos can be played from an SD card, those of you with Panny projectors may be able to present your intros this way then switch the input mode to start the movie. Sorry if this has been discussed in previous posts, I didn't have time to sift through all 27 pages.

i'd imagine the SD can only view jpgs, posiibly animated gif's but not avi's - would be cool if it could though!

reaper
08-25-05, 02:45 PM
Well, one is capabale of getting the avi to a pretty small size with compression. Also, SD cards come in sizes up to a gig or more. So, I would suspect that you could fit a pretty good avi of this intro on there. The bigger questions are:

1. Can your projectore read and play video files such as avi?
2. Can your projector read compressed avi files?
3. How will a compressed file look on your projector?

These are all questions you could answer with some trial and error given the data, an SD card and your proj of course.

From http://dtvexpress.com/projector/Panasonic/PT-L300U/8/

"The PT-L300U offer an SD Memory Card slot for display of JPEG and MPEG-4 images recorded by an SD Memory Card-equipped digital still or digital video camera."

So for you 300u owners, I guess this is possible. I assume that the video can be converted to MPEG-4. Anyone know how to do this?

I would like to thank Reaper for what he started here and the numerous images and help he has given on this project. It was his great idea, and he is now a master at blender (have you seen the 3D theater renderings he has done?).

Hello guys!
thanks for your quick answer.
Sorry to bother you with my problem.
So I hav tried to render the blend file. First, I was surprised because it was very quick (30 or 45mins?) and my computer is not that fast (Athlon 2000)....
I found the avi file which I played and there was a problem with the different lines which were too close to each other (In fact, the 3 lines overlap each other)...
This maybe due to the text size which is too big. My problem is that I do not know how to decrease this size...
I can send you the blend file I have to check if there is something wrong but it will be for later tonight as I am currently at work.
Thanks ;-)

I do not get this result. In my case, the 3 lines overlap each other.
What is the size of the file you got? How long did it take to render the animation?

Sorry to bother you about this and thanks for your help!

reaper
08-31-05, 10:07 AM
Oh wait... not sure what you mean then. I was referring to the size of the .blend. The avi you generate should be hundreds of MB... was it 300 or so? Can anyone confirm?

I am working with the latest version 2.37a

dllewel
08-31-05, 10:44 AM
My animation output file (.avi) was 110 MB, it was rendered to the dimensions of 720 by 480. My .blend file itself is 2.21 MB or 2,266 KB. I'm sure Reaper meant 2266 KB above, not MB :)

I'd be curious to have Fred send the .blend file back to see how it looks, just to make sure it wasn't modified. If not, and he is using ver 2.37a- then ???

Pitbully

Pitbully,

I bet the blender file I gave you is set to render at 1280x720 pixels. This would produce the bigger file. Many with HTPC prefer this size to match their display native resolution. Mine was 110 MB since it is only 720x480.

Does it sasy what Codec it is looking for? Reaper mentioned a codec (I think FFShow) that he had used previously. Otherwise there is a program, I think it is called G-spot, that can tell you what codec the file requires.

Thanks I think the reason some people are getting the avi file at 2231 kb is that you may have left the start and end file for the production avi at 650. Now that I am getting the hang of it, I understand it more. Thanks again and once my theater computer room is up I can help out a bit more. FYI if you are having this problem in Blender under the play button ensure there is a setting sta:1 not sta:650 and beside that End: 650. HTH

I am now using gspot and it claims I have the codec needed for the ac3 audio, but when I check it with render it says that DirectShow failed to render with an unknown error. I have tried ffshow and ac3 decompresser.

I am wondering if it is a problem with the fox.ac3 file I was given? The file size is 1,433,600 bytes. Can anyone verify if this is correct, please?

Thank you.

PS: Sorry my output avi size from blender is 642 MB. The 110 I quoted earlier was a compressed output from Movie Maker. My mistake.

If you change the number that says 650, you can shift the camera to earlier in the animation... maybe 200 or so might line it up properly for you. 2. Is there anyway to turn off the render window?(I am guessing that it would go faster if it did not have to draw the screen)
3. How do I get the audio file that goes along with this?

Thanks,

Mike

Well, I didn't mean to upset ya man... just thought it an odd place to put the question. I think the enhanced version is supposed to be capable of higher bandwidth. So, if you need the extra BW, go with the enhanced. But someone else may have a more precise answer for ya. Sorry to come off gruff before... that was unintentional

reaper

Sure... what would you like it to say exactly?

Is that OK? If not, please modify. Also, if you want the animation, you need to PM me your e-mail address. I will send you the blender model and you will need to render the animation on your own PC and then add the sound.

But if you just want a single still image, no need for an e-mail address.

Well I goofed with Blender and figured a bunch of it out but still having problems with the very top layer, oh well.

If someone could make me a blender file I could render it would be much appreciated.

Edit after looking at some of the examples of ones that have been done. I would like it like this.
1. Welcome to
2. Liptak
3. Cinemas
3. Enjoy the show

I'll PM whoever does it my email address.

Edit Again: I figured it all out and now have rendered two different ones and burned them both to dvd's. For some reason my powerbook seems to be rendering them pretty fast. First 720x480 one in 5 hours and a 1280x720 one in about 8 hours.

Thanks again!

Guys, I rendered video with blender, used VirtualDubMod to add AC3 DD5.1 to video and burned DVD with an XP program. Have following questions:

1. When playing on a HT DVD player using a DD5.1 amp does the sound actually get decoded to dd5.1. Mine was pro-logic.

2. If you guys are actually getting DD5.1 decoding is it a function of the DVD burning software. In other words do you have to select that before burning? I am thinking the software i used was not capable of burning an ac3 file, and defaulted to prologic.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated!!

nithos

Rendered the model and it plays back smoothly on my HTPC. The raw file is a bit jumpy on my laptop, but that's expected.

I then used VirtualDubMod to add an audio segment to the file. When I play it back, the video looks great. The audio jumps, skips, pops, and makes noises that causes the dog to run for cover. I tried a couple different source files for the audio. One was 19 seconds, one was 23 seconds. I tried them both with the "Try to synch audio" option enabled and disabled.

I didn't have any luck demuxing the AC3 from a DVD in my collection. Out of 200+ DVDs, somehow, I only own 2 from FOX. Both of which only have a 7 second fanfare clip.

Given, I only had 30 minutes to mess around with this after lifting last night. But I didn't expect it to give me any issues. Any suggestions from the crowd?

reaper
09-30-05, 12:26 PM
Many people in this thread have mailed out the AC3 file. If you ask, you might receive. I have not had the trouble with the standard setero file you describe. I do believe you want the 23 second file. I linked to a working example at the beginning of this thread.

It's about $90 for a 24" by 120' roll. So it's not very much. I think it's 4 mil's thick.

I found back lite sign frames for $200 to $350 range depending on size. They are about 4" thick.

I think it could really customize someones HT. Hung behind the motorized screen, or outside the theater door.

Hi Reaper,

Do you have any link to explain how to mix this animation with the ac3 file and burn it on a dvd?
I am lloooossssssttttttt! Please help
Fred

This is how I did it using freely available tools:

Install AviSynth (http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/avisynth2/AviSynth_255.exe?download) then create a text file consisting of these two lines-

AviSource("c:\render\intro.avi")
converttoyv12()

putting the location and name of your AVI file in the first line. Name the file anything you like, with a .avs extension (i.e. intro.avs)

Install HC (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Encoders/MPEG2/HC_015A.zip) .
-Run HCGUI_015A.EXE
-Click on Input File Name and open the .avs file you just created
-Set encoding profile to 'best'
-Set the average and maximum bit rates (i used 6000kbps average and 9000kbps max)
-Set VBR bias [0-100] (0 uses fully variable bit rate, 100 forces constant bit rate, I used 0)
-Click encode
This will give you a .m2v file in the same directory as the .avs file. You should play this file and check the quality. You can adjust the bit rates and VBR bias then re-encode to improve quality.

Install IfoEdit (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Vobtools/Ifoedit0971.zip)
-Open IfoEdit
-Click DVD Author
-Click Author New DVD
-Click the . next to video and select the .m2v you just encoded with HC
-Click the . next to audio and select the ac3 file
-Set the destination folder under Output Stream
-Click OK

That's it, the DVD files will be in the destination folder. I just use the .VOB file in my setup, but all the necessary files are there to burn the clip to a DVD.

AviSynth is running anytime the .avs file you created is being used (like by HC when it is converting the AVI to mpeg2). You'll notice that you can play that .avs file in a media player, even though it is just a text file. AviSynth is a frame server that runs in the background, serving the raw frames (+ any processing options you have in the .avs file) to whatever application has opened the .avs file.

I'd be interested in a couple of small signs for my light boxes if the price per was pretty cheap. I guess if enough people were interested the $90 would be easily offset though I don't know what your toner/ink costs would be. I have two small mylar-style light boxes that are about 5" x 11" each.

reaper,
I just found this thread, and WOW! I spend most of my time in the projector forums, and just wandered over here. Out of curiousity, are these able to be rendered in high resolution for High Definition (720p or 1080p) playback on an HTPC? Judging by all the posts I have read, it would take forever, I am sure.

I have four requests for stills and video, and will gladly contribute to your projector fund if you agree to do them. They are as follows:

First: Welcome to the
Middle: Springerhaus
Bottom: Enjoy the Show!

First: Alabama Theatre
Middle: Showplace
Bottom: of the South

First: Crimson Tide
Middle: Home Cinema
Bottom: Enjoy the Show!

Top: Welcome to

I know it's a lot, and I don't want to take advantage of your generosity. What is an appropriate amount to donate? I don't want to insult you, but I am not rich. If you would be more comfortable, you can e-mail your response to hifiguy1@gmail.com. Thank you in advance!

reap,

thanks again, printed out on an 8x11 which works out to be about 6x11, turned out excellent.

Brought the file to Staples, they printed out on an 11x17, looks good but by blowing up the image further there is some stairstepping. Any way to get a higher rez/larger image for a larger printout? Just asking as i would like the image frames just a tad bigger.

Showed the wife the printed one i made, she doesen't approve of the name "Penthouse", she is obviously taking the name in the wrong context and i think i will keep it. The theater is mine so i have all the say:) Of course i share but everything is done to my tastes in the end.

I'm not running a porn shack up there, geez...

10-14-05, 02:23 PM
Sure thing... there is a resolution and aspect ratio adjustment on the right side of the interface when you open the model up. You can set the aspect ratio to whatever you want. I believe the max resolution is 10,000x10,000 or whenever your poor CPU dies in anguish.. whichever comes first. I would recc rendering it higher res for printout.

Most of them are like that. You need to delete the top line, then copy the 2nd line up there. Now you can edit it.
Hope this helps.

I'd be interested in a couple of small signs for my light boxes if the price per was pretty cheap. I guess if enough people were interested the $90 would be easily offset though I don't know what your toner/ink costs would be. I have two small mylar-style light boxes that are about 5" x 11" each.

Hi, Anyone else interested in a back lite sign?

It would depend on size but I could do them for about 30-50 bucks. Reapers is free!

I have searched for the file with google but no luck, can anyone send me the mp3? Would be most appreciated.

I can do max size of 24" by 36" so at this size rage would be 50 bucks.
Yes it's just for the transparency.
I'm not out to make a killing on this, just to make some HT enthusist happy.
Just to be clear you provide the file, I can enlarge it, but quality is based on original.

You can make your own back lite frame or buy one. I've seen them for 200 to 350 bucks.

Thanks for the info, Eddie. I will probably order one soon, maybe not quite that large. I am going to check into lite frames and then I'll contact you. I will also render a higher resolution picture for better quality.

Thanks for posting the images. I do not believe that they have used the blender model to create those pictures. There are many differences in their images and mine. It appears as though they created their own 3d model or drew that single image on their own.

One major difference is the light just to the left of the text. Vastly different from the model in this thread.

And just to remind people, I didn't make this model inthe first place... I have just modified a model I acquired on a blender forum. Credit goes to the original creator at the beginning of this thread...
