Do you have HD source? If you do then IMO you should not consider 480p for a new purchase.

But ... The price on the HD70 package seems high. I know you probably need to pay more in Indonesia, but I think the HD70 package should be within $500 of the H27 package.

Another consideration is that the HD70 contains a white segment on the colour wheel to boost its brightness. This makes it harder to dial in the colours accurately. If you are not a hard core purist this is probably not a big deal. On the other hand if you don't have 100% ambient light control in your HT the HD70 might be a better choice.

I have owned a H27 for 18 months mainly for DVD viewing in a bat cave. This thing gives a beautiful picture. I haven't upgraded to one of the budget 720p DLPs yet mainly because of the white segment concern.

In short to make a decision you should consider the following.
- Price
- HD sources
- HT environment
- White segment might be a concern to some but not to others

I alradey came to decision to H27 , even its already discontinued...
in 18 months life-time , did you have any major problem foe your H27.... and how about the lamp replacement ..?

I'm interested in the lamp replacement issue as well. I think H27 is the kind of "picture-thrower" you dig out from your attic in 30 years and hook up to watch something with the family. Then you throw frases around like "what a funny old thing", "still working and it was one of the good small ones back then!", "it's not that bad! Cool!" and "but it makes a hell of a noise! -and we actually thought it was pretty silent back then, how old fashioned.." (that's my hope anyway, I hate all electronic devices that makes any kind of noise).
Ok I'm rambling, but maybe one should buy a pair of extra bulbs now? How long does Optoma keep these in production -I mean do they have a policy in this area?

I have had zero problem with my H27 in 18 months. I bought a spare lamp when the old lamp was at 600 hours. I have been using the new lamp since then. Both lamps are still good. Things I like:
- Beautiful DVD picture. I don't use it much for anything else.
- VERY quiet. (niknik, I can hardly hear the H27 now. In 30 years I am sure I won't be able to hear it.)
- Zero maintenance required. The air flow only goes through the lamp housing. No dust gets into the optical portion of the pj.

One thing to watch for:
- The H27 has very large offset. I started by tilting the pj upward in my basement with low ceiling. (I had to use keystone correction.) This issue was resolved by a DIY screen tilting downward by 10%. I now get a perfectly square image without using keystone correction.

maybe you can share the calibrating or tweaking process to install

that unit is on the way to my location... may be 2 or 3 days will come to ours..

I have a dvd player with hdmi.... and components
which one is better .... to connect with......

10 mtrs HDMI cables is too expensive i think
except from monoprice its only US 7....
but i'm still negotiating abt shipment and payment

I do find DVI a bit cleaner than components, but not by much. I use Avia for simple tweaking. I didn't have to deviate much from the default settings, but every pj and/or environment is different. So get a calibration disk for yourself. It's a good experience - and fun, too.

Can someone explain to me why it'd be beneficial to upconvert the DVDs and then downconvert?

DVDs are natively 480p, as is this projector. So I would think that you would want to keep the DVD at 480p to get the original signal.

If your dvd player is converting up, the projector still has to convert it down, doesn't it?
