Drew and Ewong--

It's not that DViCO changed their website. They have both announcements posted--one at each of your links above.

It seems to me that they're not strong on proofreading, as the announcement pasted above for the 2006 CeBIT with the "M-5100U" is listed as a "2005" event. There may, or may not, be a "5100" at CeBIT. ;)

Honestly, I have no idea what the deal is with this supposedly new model, although I have an inquiry into them and expect to get an answer tomorrow night. What I have stated so far was what was said to me directly by DVICO about a week ago.

I don't know what issues others have experienced, but here is some of the problems I have reported to them so far:

1. Low analog audio volume output - apprently fixed but I've not been able to connect to their ftp site in the last few days.

2. .ts file playback performance over LAN, the video is fine but audio is garbled.

3. .ts file playback on segmented files, pauses when files transition.

4. Can't switch from USB to Video playback mode without power down/up.

Admittedly, I don't rip DVDs so I can't tell you about the performance over LAN, I'm more partial to transport stream playback being the top priority and will be leaning on them to fix this as quickly as posssible. Playback from the installed hard disk is perfect with the exception of 3, which may not be a problem that can be fixed. This will force me to record to one large file, which is not a problem as the installed hard drive supports NTFS.

The language issue I mentioned applies to the fact that currently, only Korean and English are the only two options available. Apparently, this is a problem for some users in Europe.

I have all my dvd's on a nas server in the <video_ts> folder format. All I am wanting to do is buy a bunch of devices, one for each room, where they will connect to the nas and allow me to stream my dvd's. Upconversion is also very necessary as all plasmas/projectors in the house are all now hd.

I'm sad to see such a pathetic UI, would def prefer one where I can modify it to my taste (think kaleidescape).

Anyhow, will this unit work correctly for this?

also:
someone said that it wont stream protected dvd's from the nas.
Is this correct?
If so... what's the point to the unit?

Ewong
02-27-06, 10:21 PM
Once you ripped your protected DVD into NAS or M5000 Internal Hard Disk, it will become un-protected. Then, all ripped DVD (<video_ts> or ISO image can be streamed and upconverted by M5000.

To stream DVD flawlessly, it's depend on the Network performance of NAS, SMB Server performance on NAS, Router LAN bandwidth and M5000U SMB Client.

AFAIK, M5000U SMB Client seems unable to support flawless HD Streaming or ISO Image Streaming.

Hi Chaseskip,

Since you have already tried firmware version 1.2.3, I guess there may be something wrong with your unit.

After upgrading new firmware, I seldom encountered problem on 4X FF.

I only tried very few 'rew' but so far so good.

Chaseskip

4X is fine with Xvix, but FF goes up to 32X.....
that is when A/V Sync is screwed up...

Hi valisi,

Netgear Storage Central is not a SMB NAS Device, it requires to install Storage Central Manager Utility, a ZNS SCSI Adapter driver that makes each of the drives you create with the utility look like directly-attached SCSI drives.

M5000 could only work with SMB compliant NAS Device.

Below please find URL of Tvix HD M5000U Beta Firmware :

Tvix HD M5000U Beta Firmware 1.2.3 (http://www.tvix.co.kr/kor/tvix_1.2.3.zip)

Ewong - sorry to take you back. The technical terms fly over my head. My question is will I be able to use the Netgear Storage Central to stream files to the TVIX. If yes please could you advise in simple terms how to do so. I tried to look up most of the terms you used but only got bogged with more techinical words. Many thanks.

Ewong
03-02-06, 02:22 AM
Hi valisi,

You can't use Netgear Storage Central SC101 to stream files to Tvix since SC101 is not SMB Server.

M5000 is a SMB Client when accessing network storage via LAN connection.

Hi Ewong, Kei Clark and all,
This is my first post to avsforum... so bare with me.
I have a 5000U since two months with very little problems. It does what I need it to do wich is playback 20-30Mbps 1080 MPEG2 files from it's internal harddrive.
My major concern is that it has a nasty On-Screen Display that says "Play" and "Subtitle" all the time. This is particularly annoying when you put a file in loop - everytime it starts over you get the nasty messages. The Tvix Standard Def players have an option to disable the OSD. But I have not found it on the 5000U.
Please please Help - if somebody knows how to disable the OSD.

Has anyone tried to play Nero Digital AVC files on their M-5000U? The Tvix site says it supports H264/MPeg4 AVC. Then I read a later post about an M-5100 coming out later that will support H264.

If the M-5000U already plays AVC what is the reason for this post?

Ewong

AFAIK, Tvix website never mentioned that M5000 can support H264/MPEG4 AVC.

Do you have any link about that ?

I paid 349 at digitialconnections and had them put in a 300gig hard drive.
UPS should be ringing my doorbell any min.

I have 4 laptops in the house. They are networked with a dlink router, all wireless.
My plan is to LAN the TVix to the router.
Hopes are to pull video content and watch from the laptop.

Can I add a NAS to the network and access the NAS from the TVix. I would like to point the Tvix to the networked harddrive.

Simpletech has a NAS that lets you daisy chain by USB, I'm wondering if the TVix will read the chained external drive. Even if I don't use the Network part. Not many external drives let you chain by USB.

I will be posting again soon.

With some trepidation I ordered the m5000, but I'm pleased to report I've had no problems. I ordered within the uk from rs100 co uk and free delivery without the hard drive.

I have a 100mb network linked with switches (not hubs) and 'proper' NAS devices, i.e. 2 x hpNAS1000s with RAID 5 array and hardware RAID controller (software RAID introduces a significant performance hit). They are both running Windows 2000 server.

DVD's stream perfectly across the wired LAN, with english subtitles. I also have a wireless network setup. 2 x Dlink DWL 2100-AP802.11g with directional antennas linking my house to my sisters across the road.

DVD's stream perfectly over the wireless link also although slightly less responsive to button presses.

Only tried DVD's so far, will test music and pictures later. I found I could not get a picture from my DVI monitor using the DVI cable I have. I noticed on the m5000 female point on the back of the m5000 has points which my cable does not. I can't afford a HDTV right now so unable to test with this. Worked okay via scart. I'm sure I have an s-video lead somewhere, so I'll dig that out and give it a try.

I can post further details if required.

I'm surprised to hear it can playback 1080i MPEG2 files at 30Mbps. Does it drop frames at that bitrate or is it rock solid?

Playing back HD files from the internal hard drive is what I'm most interested in and if it does this well, I may have to buy one.

Thanks,
Mike

egleye,
No problem playing up to 30Mbps 1080i/25 mpeg2 files. Rock solid is a very strong word - but it does not drop frames. It is hovewer pretty sensitive to how the files are multiplexed. Most HD files are ATSC at max 19Mbps so there is a lot of headroom.

Further to my previous post.

I have begun having problems streaming DVD's in VOB format over the wireless lan, video fine, audio garbled, same problems as reported by other posters.

Stopping the film and then starting it again seems to work at temporarily fixing the audio, but any FF/REW or skipping chapters scrambles the audio again.

I've used the same wireless link with a Liteon 2010 DVD player which uses server side software rather than any built in UI and that works without any audio or visual glitches.

This would seem to point to an issue in the firmware of the TViX rather than any other network problems. As I said before though, it works fine over a wired LAN.

Hi everybody,

I'm evaluating the M-5000U, it would be connected to an LCD screen.
No LAN, external source, external storage etc.

Only question is: my LCD TV screen has only composite, scart and VGA (d-sub 15) port, not DVI or component.

It is possible to use a DVI-VGA adapter?
In other words, the DVI signal coming from the M-5000U is DVI-D (digital only) or DVI-I (digital+analog)?

The manual says nothing.
From the pictures, it seems DVI-I (all the pins have contacts). Anyone has the possibility to try and confirm?

Not that I have found. The Manual screen shots do not match what the device actually does!
I was not happy about this either. The manual also kindly tells you how to open your firewall and update the host systems policy settings to grant guest access with no password.
I have overcome some of these issues by using a Maxtor Network Storage device. This unit allows designated directories to be "public" access. I created a "tvixhd1" folder, made it public and the TViX was able to connect as a guest. Now anyone can get to my video collection, but nothing else.

If you find a better way, please post an update.

How is the handling of JPEG-files with the newer firmware releases ?

- Can i browse quickly through directory structures with pictures ?
- How fast can i change from one picture to the next ?

I ask this expecially, because there are rumors, that a new TVIX-Hardware with JPEG-Hardware-Decoding will be available in summer.

So: is the current hardware fast enough for looking big Picture collections ?

If it is any help. For Rev 1.3.0, the following button press sequence will set english, if you are working blind. I did not have a problem myself. The unit itself still showed english, even when the TV out was Korean.
Here goes:
[SETUP][Down][Right]6 x [Down][Right]
Then select the top one of the two words on the fly-out sub menu. Then [Ok]
On the confirmation pop-up [Ok]
[Left][Down][Ok][Ok]
Then re-start.

Two weeks ago i spoke directly with a TVIX representative.

After referencing to the well-known internet rumours, he acknowledged, that TVIX is working on an improved TVIX 5000 with a newer SigmaDesign-Chip, that is able to hardware-decode H264 and JPEG.

He mentioned "8623", but this version is currently not listed on the SigmaDesign-Web-Site. There is only a 8622 with H264 and Jpeg-Decoding.

Other people from TVIX told me, browsing through big JPEG-directories will be lightning fast !!

Release will be in some months.

And don't forget Sigma also lists the EM8624L, the SMP8630 (which is pin compatible with the EM8620L and EM8622L) and SMP8634 chip-sets.

I very much doubt we'll see any of the SMP chip-sets in products though, as these appear to be for-runners of the EM8622L and EM8624L chip-sets.

Maybe Keith Jack (from Sigma) can clarify....

Just received my M-5000U and updated firmware.

Jpeg slideshow is one of important features for me, but I encountered a problem: pics from my Canon Dig Rebel (EOS 300D) are not displayed if they are shot in portrait, no problem with landscape.

With original firmware I got a "Insufficient memoy or format not supported to open this file" message on tv; with the newer firmware no message is displayed, just an "invalid" message on the unit display.

I've tried different resolutions and compressions on the camera, but it seems that just portrait itself create the problem.
More: just opening with Photoshop the portrait pic and saving it (at any jpeg quality) make the picture OK for the M-5000U.

Thanks for the language help and wow! I want that. Are you sure there is no where u can buy that? Does anyone know when that will be released??

Also, do any of you rip dvds to divx or xvid to play on the M-5000U? If so, which program do you use? And after installing the latest firmware, do you notice that those files no longer plays?

I don't know why this is so, the only difference in my files and the ones I download are they are usually higher resolution, 192kbps and 44khz(cbr)

Can anyone help me out here please???

Much Appreciated.

Hi all,

I just downloaded and installed 1.3.4 and DViCO has finally put an option to disable the OSD! Thanks DViCO!
I have tried to make them listen on the Q&A and I thought like everybody else that because they did not answer they did not care. But I think we are wrong.
DViCO produces new FW with a remarkable speed and the box is getting better all the time.

Hallo,

I found several bugs (Firmware: 1.3.4):

- .wmv / .mpg Files with 1440 vertical lines (e.g. 1440x816) have the wrong aspect ratio on the screen (stretched picture), the 2,35:1 black bars are "missing" (e.g. Ski into the sun WMVHD / HD-1 Euro1080 records).
Ski into the Sun WMVHD (1440 x 816 px) has the aspect ratio of 2,35:1, but when you play it, it looks like 1,78:1 without black bars on top and bottom, everything is stretched

- it isn´t possible to listen to 5.1 WMA Pro Audio over the digital outputs (coaxial/optical). There always is 2 channel PCM sound.

- it isn´t possible to switch audio tracks (.wmv HD files)

- Info button shows incorrect infos from MPEG2 HD files (resolution 0*0, 0 fps, 0 channel audio)

Does anyone of you people who onws one, use it with a stand alone NAS drive, like Maxtor Shared Storage?
How does it work?
Can you stream HDTV TS-files?
DVDs?

How long time does it take for a picture to load? Typically a 800kB 5 Mpixel picture.
Or whatever the "normal size" from a simple camera (no EOS RAW format) is?

Some answers anyone?

It can take up to 5-6 seconds to load a 2500kB picture (EOS 6Mpixel Jpeg), so it will take around 2 seconds if the picture is 800kB (in my experience file size counts more than picture resolution).

It's not too bad (unless you want to browse large directories in search for a particular picture), since previous image stays on till the next is ready to be displayed.

Only problem is that with large portrait-oriented pictures the system can slow down or hang.

I use a Maxtor Shared Storage NAS. I created a share "tvixhd1" and made it a "Public" access folder. All via the NAS Web i/f

Then I mapped the share to my PC on which I have DVD Shrink installed. It is then possible to make iso images of DVDs and save them directly to the NAS.

On the TViX, I configured the network settings to that of my NAS and the iso images can be selected and played direct from the NAS storage.

The playback does become a bit chopped if I am writing new data to the NAS. It looks to me like the TViX could do with buffering the data a little better.

I just went by a store which only had the demos from wmvhd(dot)com to play.

I've gotten fed up with the TViX now, after testing all the firmware upgrades, I bought a Snazzio HD DVD net player and it plays all my HD content perfectly.

The TviX was slow, jerky movements and couldn't read the large files from my server.

FW 1.3.6 do now support å ä ö. (FW 1.3.4 did that as well, using siemen02 info abt setting swedish language)
Still a problem with end time, subtitle lines does not use endtime, cutting the time for how long the subtitle line should be showed.

Anyone else noticed that problem?????

After i update to FW 1.3.6 from 1.3.4 my network cant be connected but if i revert to 1.3.4 network is connectable again (BUG???)

Swedish:

FW 1.3.6 och FW 1.3.4 har support för Å Ä Ö (bara att göra som siemen02 skrev innan om att sätta svensk språk)

Most ppl are watching non-HD content right now until real HD Content is available. It's pointless comparing the TViX (or any other device fitted with Sigma's EM8620L chip-set), to an Xbox, even a modded XboX, because they've been designed to offer different things to different people!

Personally speaking I don't play games. But I do play high-def MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 video. I also want a device fitted with an digital video output (as well as 6Ch analogue audio outputs) and very good quality component video outputs!

I understand that, but come on.... FF & REW are BASIC Functions.
I also run HDTV & network. The networking for the XBox is working much better than the TVix with no "jittery" play, & yes, that is with iso images as well. FF & REW work with it.
I'm not disputing that the TViX, when fixed, is a far supurior device, I just want the basic functions to work....

I also run HDTV & network. The networking for the XBox is working much better than the TVix with no "jittery" play, & yes, that is with iso images as well. FF & REW work with it. What high-def MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 video content do you have? Is it Homemade? You can't get any "Commercial" content such as the latest movies yet....

Unless I'm not looking in the right places. please let me know.

Chaseskip, some people here already have hundreds of movies in HD 1080i or 720P MPEG-2 format on their hard drives. These are not home created, they are the real 1080i broadcast movies.

Anything you can see and watch on HD satellite is recordable. This is where the TVIX, Linkplayer, MyHD, etc, come in as you have a hardware device to play it back on.

I believe people are now recording (http://www.nextcomwireless.com/r5000/home.htm) the new Satellite MPEG-4 HD material as well.

I believe people are now recording (http://www.nextcomwireless.com/r5000/home.htm) the new Satellite MPEG-4 HD material as well. From what I understand, all these MPEG-4 HD sources will be broadcast using MPEG-4 AVC (aka: H.264). Which is not supported by Sigma's EM8620L chip-set.

Therefor playback of such HDTV streams will require "transcoding" by a high-performance PC before being fed into the TViX.... So good luck with that ;)

Hi there, I'm planning to buy this, but I have a question for you.

I plan to connect it to my HD projector via the DVI to watch jpegs in high definition (1280x720 p).

Currently I do that with my DVD player (Momitsu V880 that also has a DVI output), but it does wrong: it first converts it to DVD resolution (720x576) and then upscales it to 1280x720, losing lots of quality!!

Can anybody confirm me please, that the M-5000U respects original resolution: that means if a load a 1280x720 jpeg it does not lose quality.

Thanks

Hi,
Are your TS files one large file or is it broken into seperate sequential files?
Is it still true that sequential TS files have sound/video gaps between files (don't play seamlessly)? Are your files (HD TS 1920x1080 with .srt subtitle) on the local harddrive of the TVIX or on a NAS or a PC?

So at this point, can the M-5000 stream a DVD from a networked PC Drive? More specifically, my video card's DVI/video overlay is a PITA and I want to stream an ISO from my networked virtual drive instead. This way I can still use my frontend's (Xlobby) touchscreen remote to load my ISO's into the irtual drive. Ideally the M-5000 will play whatever file I have on the drive. I'm not sure if playing a ISO file from a folder is harder on the TVIX than playing a mapped drive. Has anyone tried using a mapped network drive? How is the playback quality?

Hi,

I live in the UK (PAL TV) and I am considering buying a TViX HD M-5000U.

My question is regarding attaching the TViX to a SCART socket on my TV.

Can the TViX output RGB to SCART? (Can any HDD media player?)

My TV can accept S-VIDEO through SCART so I assume an S-Video To Scart cable would suffice there?

However, am I correct in thinking that the component output would give a better picture than S-Video (and RGB if the TViX can output it?).

Is there a way to connect the component outputs to a SCART socket?

Any help and advice would be gratefully received as I'm just trying to find out how to get the best picture quality out of the TViX with the TV I have (a JVC AV-32WFT1EK, 32" CRT Widescreen)

thanks

I am also tvix 5000u owner, but not very happy with my new purchase.

When I purchasing tvix 5000 - it was featured what it have UNICODE subtitles support. But really it not support russian subtitles (show just some random characters).

I upgraded to lastest 1.3.8 - but nothing changed. Still no unicode support!!!

I posted question about it at tvix "my Q&A" website section - but still no ANY answer for more than 1 week.

May be somebody here know how to uncrypt tvix firmware - to add russian fonts inside?

PS : Also that "network connection" feature - biggest security hole in your windows!!!

Hello new owner of the 5000 model.
I just plugged it into my D-link router and everything works fine, however when i go to the network symbol and it locates my pc it only shows a blank screen (beside the top menu). I cant see any files or folder. Why is this? I have a folder that is shared on my XP system called tvixhd1 as described with both folder and audio files in it.

If you have a solution for this please share :)

I also have a Apple Powerbook running at home but when i try to connect i get error message saying disc cant be found. (And yes i have changed the IP settings :) )
I dont know what the problem is but i got adress 192.168.0.106/username when i add sharing in the system settings. So i created a account with a user called tvixhd1 to see if that helped but nothing :(

So basically im almost finished with the XP support but no files and i have trouble even getting connected to the OSX system.

Just received my TVIX 5000 from Digital Connection. Thanks Kei! I've updated it to V1.3.8 firmware.

DVD - Playback from .iso image on hard drive within TVIX works well. Playback from USB 2.5" drive plugged into TVIX works well. This includes chapter access, etc. Playback from Network (XP PC share) is average. It will play .iso fine, but zipping around the DVD using chapter access from menu's, etc, locked my TVIX.

TS HD - Playback from local HDD and external USB drives works great. Playback from Network (XP PC) was initially OK, but then started to degrade with some streams playing OK, others stuttering or going in slow motion. Copying those problem problem streams to the TVIX HDD or USB allows perfect playback.

MPEG\SVCD (Tivo sourced, etc) plays back perfectly from internet and external HDDs. Network not tested.

XVID - seems to work fine from internal or external drives. Network not tested.

I found that some of my TS files wouldn't report the correct program run-time in TVIX. This made time seeking impossible as TVIX can't work out where to jump to in the stream. MPEG2Repair fixes this issue completely, so if you have a stream that displays this behaviour, just run it through that to fix it.

External USB2 drive connection seems very good on the TVIX. You can't tell any difference in speed from the internal to external drives.

Networking (on XP) at this point should probably be avoided unless you are prepared to deal with random lockups, stuttering, etc. I have no intention of testing Samba shares at this point.

I am very happy with the TVIX as it does what I purchased it for. Plays HD TS material perfectly as well as DVD .iso archives as well.

Due to the nature of competition, a product isn't really going to stand out until it has:

The tvix supports FAT and NTFS with the internal HD.

It doesn't matter what the filesystem is over the network. You can use any.
Today it can only connect through SAMBA shares. But it will in the future be able to connect to NFS shares.

That's what we all are waiting for since NFS is a lot faster then SAMBA.

Best performance yet. Don't worry about the Korean extension on the file It works just fine in English. This is the first time I've been able to network connect with my Win2K system. The NFS system and the TVIX Netshare work great. I'm streaming ISOs with full FF and REW. Chapter jumps are smooth. I like being able to delete files from the system after I've already watched them.

The menus are just slightly different but nothing big EXCEPT for the addition of the HDTV Icon. If your thinking that your Fusion USB tuner is going to work plugged into one of the USB ports, it doesn't appear to be happening. I assume that the guts of the tuner were used for their tuner attachment shown previously. I don't mind though. I am assuming they'll have a tuner available soon to attach to the bottom.

This device, with the recent update is turning out to be the class leader.

I don't think so, but I'm not a network expert. I didn't have to set ANY parameters in order to share a folder. Just put a couple .ts, iso, mp3 and wmv files in a C:\tvixhd1 folder and everything plays smoothly. TVIX Netshare did the rest. I would stongly suggest using it to Serve the files as I believe that it is the difference between smooth play and choppy performance.

I'm sure that when they Officially release this new and great step forward, that they will package the firmware, the PDF about setting up Netshare, and the Netshare setup.exe all in a nice zip file with a few notes about the changes and some more info about the tuner option.

Mitch--

The answer is "yes", you have to run the DViCo NFS server for this to work. Otherwise, you'll still be stuck with SMB sharing. But the setup is trivial (as long as your "media server" isn't a NAS box).

moreno40--

I'm talking about HDTV TS file play from the internal HDD. Before that works correctly there's no hope for LAN play. :(

Tested the network streaming using DVDISO and it's flawless! No choppy playback.

This is really GOOD NEWS for those who intend to use a NAS with it. :)

Of course there's no choppy playback of DVD ISO--that's only 720x480i--the choppiness is only a problem with HDTV TS at over 5x that bitrate.

i cant think of them all right now...

i havent touched mine in a month :)

i had issues playing ISO files from network share
some avi incompatabilites... dont know what they are exactly
could be mux rate

put it this way my htpc plays everything, the 5000 didnt

ill have to think more about this

and now my media needs are getting past the capabilities of the 5000
i have done some h264 encodes, and really happy with em
so that makes me keep the HTPC vs the 5000

i wanted to compare horizontal pans in movies with the 5000 vs htpc
a htpc on my setup can NEVER do one perfectly, due to pretty much everything
i watch is film based 23.997fps and my tv is locked at 1080i 30hz
and reclock cant help me here, and it has issues of its own...

H2M. It works fine for editing out commercials and playing files on MyHD, FusionHDTV, Media Player Classic, etc. The TVIX needs to have a more robust TS engine before it's ready for prime time.

Hello,

I'm considering purchasing one of these unit, but i need to know, can this unit act as a file server? ie. can i copy files to/from the unit from a remote computer on the same lan network.

if not, how exactly does the lan port work? is there any way of making this device act as a file server? are there any planed firmware updates that will allow the unit to act as a file server?

are there any other media servers out there that can act as a file server, either wirelessly or over a lan?

thanks heaps for your help.

{2} if not, how exactly does the lan port work? is there any way of making this device act as a file server?1. Evidently not. It does not present a list of shares to the LAN. Its LAN connection is for reading and playing other LAN media, not serving it up.

2. Files are copied to/from its HDD via USB. It has a separate USB B socket (Look just above the DVI socket) for this connection and its LAN functions are disabled when that port is active.

Hi!
I'm going to buy a Tvix M-5000U and I will be gratefull if somebody could ask me some questions:
Appart to see DVDs and Dvix films I will use it to see photos. I'd like to use the VGA connector of my projector at 1024x768 (native resolution) and use the DVI connector in the Tvix with a DVI to VGA adaptor. Somebody could tell me if it will work? (in the dvico web FAQ section puts contradictory information: It says that the DVI connector is DVD-D only and on the other hand it is possible to connect a VGA monitor).
How can I select the 1024x768 resolution in the Tvix Setup menu or in the remote?
How many seconds it takes to load a 8 megapixel photo?
It is good the zoom function? How many times enlarge the photo?

Thanks for your help!

if i link my tvix unit up to one of these "Network Storage Links", via usb, i should have full access to my tvix hard drive like a file server.. refer to this link for product description:

Yes, the TViX functions just like any other USB HDD via that USB B port. So it can be attached to any NAS that has the ability to use external USB drives--and it's then only a USB HDD until you detach it again from the USB B port, power cycle it, and hook it back up via its ethernet connection.

What part of "no" don't you understand? :D

Yes, it is "mandatory"--the TViX must be disconnected from the USB B port and power cycled (with the current fw, anyway) to get back to LAN operation.

For problem TS streams, please run them through Mpeg2Repair. I had some issues with a few HD recordings, and Mpeg2Repair simply fixed them all.

TPeterson
06-12-06, 01:26 AM
I'm not talking about "problem TS files"--virtually every H2M-edited TS stalls at an edit point with TViX. I know exactly what the "defect" in the file is, a discontinuity in the PCR timestamps, and TViX needs to handle such events, just as do other TS players, because they can happen in any file. DViCo's own FusionHDTV does an excellent job in handling these and I expect that they'll fix the TViX eventually to do so too.

Fudicator,

Might have to have a little bit of patience re: the HD tuner add on.
From following the bits and pieces on the TVIX Korean website, it only
seems to have gone to the Korean market at the start of June.
It's now added to the Korean website.
The latest firmwares 1.6.1 + have added in some support for the tuner.

You're from Australia like myself, and Lakopacific are distributing the 5000u
here. They have only received supply of the 5000u last week ( 12 units), with only one unit being sent to a Perth retailer. Lako are quite approachable should you have any queries. I haven't enquired about the tuner add-on as yet, but have phoned them a couple of times re: availablility of main unit..
Saving grace is that it is manufactured out of Korea which is where most of Australia's decent STB's seem to be manufactured.

PS: Firmware now also up to 1.6.3

Few questions
1) Will the Tvix see multiple PC's, with mutiple shared HD's?

2) Does the unit play IFO's (have quite the collection) or does all need to be ISO's?

3) Anything else that might make me pick this one over the mediabox want to pull the trigger soon!

To answer your questions:

1. No. Tvix only allows one server. You have to specify either IP address in NFS mode or Samba mode. But I think this maybe easy fix in future firmware to allow more than 1 server.

2. Yes. With NFS mode in 1.6.1, it can play IFO and ISO smoothly unlike mediabox

Fudicator,

They are available in Australia now from importer Lakopacific. They have about a dozen units I believe so far. Call them and they will put you in touch with a supplier. Retail price according to their web site (see press releases) is $ 599 so we should be able to nab one for around $ 550. A hard drive is gonna set you back $ 120 for say 200gig.

Also, could somebody who runs one of these with a front projector, either component or DVI, comment on how the 5000u's picture looks when running an ISO from the hard drive. Say at 720p . Interested to know if the picture looks good or really shite ! I've got an Epson TW600 LCD.

Yes I have successfully connected my M5000u to an LCD monitor with a DVI-VGA cable.
The monitor is 1024X768. I selected 720p on the TViX and works fine.

How many seconds it takes to load a 8 megapixel photo?

Let's say 3-4 secs for a 6megapixel photo.
Notice that it appear as not being able to handle portrait photos at 6mp (probably due to the 3000+ lines horzontal res which may be too much for the internal memory).

Didn't tried latest firmware, so this may be solved now.

It is good the zoom function? How many times enlarge the photo?

As far as I remeber, zoom don't work for jpg.

I to am interested to know if there is a way to share more than one HD at the same time?

Yes there is a workaround in XP.
You can mount your hard drives in empty folders.

Example: Create the folder that you want to share for Tvix (tvixhd1)

In that folder you create a couple of empty folders (Hd1, Hd2, Hd3 etc.)

Open Control Panel/Administrative tools/computer management

Open Disc Management, and select one of the discs that you want to mount.
(don’t worry, a disc can be mounted on several places at the same time)
Right click on the drive and choose “Change Drive Letter and Paths”
Choose “add”, and browse to find your empty folder.

Repeat for all your drives.

You can only do this on NTFS folders; don’t think it works on FAT32.

I did this on my computer, I created a folder to share, and in that one I mounted my network drives.

Ditto here. The KR in the file name was to signify that the release was INTENDED for the KR market. They have not released anything beyond the 1.38 for the US market. This is very disappointing as it shows a complete lack of respect for us early adopters and does not bode well for future support. They have already released the HD tuner in their own market and that's where their efforts are going.

You can get the 1.6.3 Firmware from the TVIX site in Korea. (http://www.tvix.co.kr/KOR/Support/firmware5000.aspx?ct=M5000UFirmware)

The Netshare software for the PC doesn't look like its been published much yet. But you can get it here. (ftp://ftp.dvico.com/Products/TViX/)

There seems to be a manual for Netshare as well in PDF format. (ftp://ftp.dvico.com/Manual/TViX/TViX NetShare_eng.pdf)

If you can read Korean you can look at the PDF manual for the add on HD tuner as well. (ftp://ftp.dvico.com/Manual/TViX/Tuner/TViX HD Tuner_1.0.8.pdf)

I only have one complaint: If I use a dvi cable longer than 6 feet I get the green shimmer! But only in 720p or 1080i, none of the other settings show the shimmer!? I even tried a 12 foot hdmi with dvi convertors(I read in the forums hdmi can run longer without data loss) NO luck, WORSE in fact! Do I need a booster? Any help would be great.

P.S. I also can't get it to read mkv files regardless of format...anyone else?

I'm having some problems with the sync (I think) between PAL and NTSC from my TViX.

I have a brand new Sony 50" HDready backproj TV intended for the European market (i.e PAL or SECAM). It handles naturally NTSC aswell.

I connected my TViX through a DIV to HDMI adaptor and a HDMI-HDMI cable to the TV. I've set the resolution on the TViX to 720p/60 and selected PAL.
Now the screen starts roll upwards! I changed to 720p/50 (50 means 50Hz I presume, which would compensate for the sync problem between diff in power frequency) on the TViX but no change. However, if I change from PAL to NTSC the rolling stops and everything seems OK.
It should work with PAL, right?

Anybody else experiencing this?

BTW. I'm using FW 1.6.3

I'm on the fence as well. I did notice in the pixelmagic forums that some people are experiencing stuttering when accessing their ISOs over the network. Tvix just released net share which seems to help with streaming of ISOs over the network though I haven't heard any reports on this.

Then there's the issue that the PixelMagic box will do 1080p while Tvix is 1080i.

I can't figure out which one to get or if I should look into the Zensonic.
