Doc, scorp, soccer, and Mark check your inbox. To those downloading, are you guys getting a good connection to the peers. The first one I dled was a green connection (AZ) and I was getting about 2.3 MB/s down. The last two I queued up I was only getting yellow and about 130KB/s down. All three were with about 2 seeds. Thanks.

And the more people that leave their torrent client running after they have finished getting the disks, the quicker it will be for others....more people seeding the less individuals will be uploading. :)

I'm an old skool torrent user with some really decent bandwidth.

If someone could PM or E-mail me the info/torrents, I'd be happy to download and co-host the torrents for a few weeks.

Funny, I came to the forums today to see if anyone had a guide as to how to make a good demo disc. It looks like everyones already done it! LOL

Well I downloaded the torrent file for D27 but it looks like there are no seeders out there. I downloaded and enjoyed many of these demos back in "the old days" of the original FTP site, but now it appears a bit harder.

Yeah, I'm struggling for D23 through D27 with Torrents. I'm all about sharing these, and I've been seeding for over a week now as promised...but these last few are just dead.

Seed 'em if you've got 'em!

EDIT: D26 is dead, and D27 is at 6.5k

I'm going to try CuteFTP and if they come down faster, I'll dump them in my Seed folder and hopefully that will help ya'll out.

I was seeding D27 but after almost 2 days I only had 70% of it. I didn't have much traffic on my PC. I think the population of people just won't meet critical mass for torrents to be very successful. I have VOIP phone service and when I'm seeding my phone quality sucks. So to seed a lot of these full time is not practical, especially for those with up link limitations.

Hey Victor, you out-did yourself on D27. Great job! A ton of clips (almost 40) and great sound tracks. Well authored too with even a little bonus section. The THX intro shakes the house!

I tried a brief attempt to author a disc and gave up, I know this takes a lot of effort and skill to do it this well. Thanks Victor!

I'm curious, I noticed most of the sound tracks were DD 48k, is this a choice to fit more on the disc?

Thanks for the kind words. To be honest, I think that 38-40 tracks is pretty much the max I would do for a demo disc. I don't know how it ended up at 48k (I'll simply guess that fewer tracks will result in a higher bitrate or the dvd-lab pro defaults to 48k)

Either way, I'm glad you enjoyed as much as I authored it.Took long enough, too:D

Hey downloaders!

Enjoy while you can. An impending chapter 11 filing may knock out my ftp service. I'm going to keep things going until then but if it goes down, it could be a week or two minimum before things come back up.

SEED YOUR ISO files

Now I know that some of you have said you don't want to take a hit on the bandwidth.

GUESS WHAT? YOU DON'T HAVE TO!

Set your maximum upload in your torrent client to 32kb or 48kb or 64kb. You don't need to give a lot. A little goes a long way BUT WE NEED MORE SEEDERS!!!

If you can give a half a day at a time or even just 4 hours a day at a LOW SPEED, that's better than none. I know guys who run folding@home on their machines 24/7 just for virtual points. I have over a million myself. Get those seeds going!

I have all the ISOs on an external drive so if the ftp goes down, I will seed ALL the ISOs until another FTP can be setup.

Here's an idea: Get yourself a cheap bare hard disk and mail it to me. I will copy all the ISOs you want onto it and mail it back.

I can even mail a drive out with all the ISOs to the first person who will be willing to then mail it to another person who is also willing to do the same.

A community survives by everyone in it kicking in what they can where they can.

What's the total GB for all the ISOs? Would one (or two) big USB flash disks be big enough to hold them all?

I turn on my seeder at nights but I am not hosting all ISOs.

A 120GB drive will hold all the ISOs if you drop a couple of the trailer disks.

Even if you just seed D27, that would help.

Do what YOU can, that's all anyone can ask! :)

I've been advised by my co-lo provider that they have to throttle my connection to that machine which has the iso's on it, which means it'll be much slower than ever now.

This means you guys had better get those iso's seeding as much as you can in order to spread the load..... actually, there isn't much load at all if we get more people doing it.

Edit: They've advised me that I'm using in excess of 80% of their total bandwidth with that server !

I noticed that. I was trying to download couple of ISOs yesterday and noticed that it was really slow.

We need to get a core group together who would turn on the seeds every night or whenever they get a chance. Count me in for nightly seed.

Getting some consistent seed times may help with the downloading.

If we get sufficient people seeding these disks, and people stop downloading the iso's via ftp, but get them by torrents instead, then they should start flying around the place. :)

So it's really up to everyone in here to contribute, and clearly we're starting to see that this is starting to happen already, but we still need more people to be seeding. :)

If I can ask those that are ftp'ing the iso's from my server, to please try and just grab the torrent files instead, as that'll free up bandwidth for those trying to seed the torrents. :)

I'm on the dl torrent-wise. A lot are missing! If anyone can seed at least to 100% or pm/post times when you can I'm willing to just keep these seeding 24/7 with a cap and uncap at the times I specified.

I didn't realize how little seeds there were!

Anyone post these on demonoid or other private torrent sites? Anyone against that? If only posting them onto a private site we would get a better response seeding-wise.

I have an Idea, not sure if this was already brought up or not. What if, instead of having 30+ different disks we had one dual layer disk, with material that was voted on. Then we could have different editions, like AVS Demo Edition 1. Make it a dual layer so you have 8 gb's of room, and put out a new one or revised one when needed or on some type of annual basis? That was there is only one (slightly larger) file to track and seed.

I have all the torrents active right now so any bit I download can be leeched. Bandwidth with all of them active has never hit more than 250 kB/s up and down (combined) so I will continue to just leave it on 24/7 until it picks up, then I may have to limit it a bit, but I'll still have times where I'll uncap it.

bpratt2

Yep, that's me.

Not only is slow downloading them across the Pacific, my co-lo provider has decided since I'm using in excess of 80% of their bandwidth, they are now throttling my connection. :(

All the more reason for people to only grab the torrents.zip file, then use a torrent client to grab them that way, as it will make it quicker to download the .iso's.
:)

I'm assuming that you are using the .torrent files obtained from either my site or reconlabtech's site ?

If so, then hopefully people will stop downloading the .iso files directly from my site, and then start grabbing them with a torrent client instead. Because if people are using up all my now restricted bandwidth ftp'ing the disks, it takes bandwidth away from the torrent tracker.

Anyway, let's hope we can get people across to the torrents, as it will make it quicker for everyone to grab the disks in the end. :)

Still 0 for 0 peers and yes, I know other torrents are working fine.

I grabbed the torrent files from both bpratt and recon so I would think the trackers are accurate. Anyone have any ideas? Is it just that no one is seeding what I'm looking for?

Still 0 for 0 peers and yes, I know other torrents are working fine.

I grabbed the torrent files from both bpratt and recon so I would think the trackers are accurate. Anyone have any ideas? Is it just that no one is seeding what I'm looking for?

Currently looking for D21 and D23.

Thanks!

I'm not sure what your torrent client problem is, I have been seeding nearly all the demo disks since about 7pm EDT today.

So now I'm seeding AND providing ftp...

You should see one or two seeds for every single one as those are the main hosts. Some people turn on seeds only at night. But most everything is REALLY slow these days.

Which one are you looking for?
Mainly the DTS and LFE ones. Thank you for any help.

Hey all. I haven't come back to this forum in a while, but I saw all the traffic and decided to read up on what's going on.

I have a few of the DVDs still on my HDD, so I'll start seeding them tonight if I can remember. I can seed from about 11pm to 5pm EDT during the week and 11pm to 9am EDT on weekends.

I guess I only have 1 ISO, so I'm seeding it - D2-LFE; and DLing and seeding the other three D2-LFE, D24-Demo, D27-Demo.

I'll add whatever is most popular.

As I am trying to download all of them, I left all on. Came home from work just now and D27 was taking up about 200 kB/s by itself on upload! Sorry had to cut you off, but I want to use my interwebz for a bit, ha ha. Will start all once again as soon as I go to bed.

D27 is the only one I am 100% at so that one is now just seeding. D13-15 have all gotten to 33% and a few other around 10%.

Keep them coming!

(And yes I am using the torrent files provided on the FTP :D)

I have 13 of these and I'll try to download the rest from Reconlabtech before his site goes down. But I can only seed at a low bandwidth because it really impacts my VOIP when I have a high uplink. I can probably seed at higher rates over night and during work hours during work days.

It would be nice if we could get enough seeders but honestly these files are so large that even a few seeders will take days to get one file.

I'm also not sure if I have a monthly uplink or downlink limit. I guess I'm going to find out!

Okay dumb question.... if I get the torrent files from bpratt or from reconlabtech, does it make a difference as far as me seeding the iso files? Are they the same torrent files? Or can I just make torrent files myself that will somehow link into the other torrent files. I'm not a very experienced torrent user.

The torrent files from my site or from reconlabtech's site are the same files that I initially created.

In order for torrents to work, they must be the same torrent files everywhere, as they point to the same torrent tracker and file crc's.

I have seen quite a few seeders at night these days. Some people do seed during the day as well. Remember that even if you have an ISO that is not complete, you can still seed it. I seed all of them at night PT. A few are complete and rest are not.

Hate to be a bother, but I cant figure this one out. I have found 7 of the disc that I want(using vuse) and they are on my HD as rar archives. Properties says that the files are all there by size, but when I try to open them I get this message: Can not open file 'C:\Documents and Settings blah blah blah \D25-GuyPlex.iso as archive.
Ive tried several different rar programs including 7-zip and get the same message.
Any ideas? I'm just about ready to give up on this. LOL

Why are you trying to use rar on them. They are not rar archives.

These are image files (ISO). Just use a program to burn them on DVD as an image. Or use VLC media player or any other ISO player if you want to watch them on computer and see what is in there.

I fully realize they "should" play, but when I try to open them with KMPlayer they freeze it up or with VLC it plays 20 seconds of nothing without even bringing up a video window. I'm flummoxed.

The latest verison of winrar should have no problem extracting an .ISO image file. If you are having trouble extracting them perhaps the are buried too deep in your directory structure (i.e. C\Documents & Settings/DennyH/My Stuff/My home Theatre/DVD/Demo Dics/AVS Demo Demo Discs)
Winrar will not extract them if they filenames or path name is too long.
If this is the case simply move the .ISO files directly to the root of your C:\ drive and extact them from there.
Hope this helps!

Speedracer, the difference between the 2 is that when I originally uploaded Guyplex to swithey's server, someone pointed out that the Jurassic Park clip's audio was 2 ch, not Dolby 5.1 as it was supposed to be.
So I reauthored that one clip to the correct audio and uploaded it as Guyplex51 (ie, 5.1). Other than that, they are identical. I thought that Swithey was going to delete the original, however, as you know, it's still there. I'd create the torrent for you if I knew what was used to make it.

Ok... sorry for the dumb questions... but I've have all the "D" series .iso images (yes that is 30 iso's including the one "C" demo) and I have all the torrent files from bpratt. Tonight I tried to start seeding D27 as a test file. But I must be doing something wrong. I don't know how to modify bpratt's torrent to make it seed instead of download. So I made a new torrent file to seed the file and pasted in the tracker from bpratt's torrent file. I'm using uTorrent 1.8.2. I set the options to "Start Seeding" and "Private Torrent" but when it tries to contact the tracker it gives me a "No connections could be made because the tracker refuses.." error message.

If I have the .iso how do I set up a seeding only torrent? The help files are not much help. Should I not have made it a Private Torrent? I thought that was the way these were being done.

Thanks.

Is the .iso in the same folder as the torrent file? If I remember correctly, if they are in the same folder and you add the torrent file to utorrent, it will first do a checksum or something on the file which will take forever (ok, 15 minutes) and then start seeding (no download).

That did it! I figured it was something obvious like that. Thanks Reconlabtech. I began seeding D27 and it checked the file (which takes awhile) and eventually began seeding to one peer. I'm loading up a few .iso's at a time and see how many I can seed at once.

Is there a torrent client that can run as a background application? I think whenever I log out of the server it shuts down uTorrent.

Okay... after 2 weeks of downloading and figuring out uTorrent I am finally seeding ALL the "D" series .iso's and the one "C" demo. That is 29 files and about 126 GB of .iso's. The hard drive on the computer seeding is only 75 GB so I had to load them up on an external hard drive. But... there is a catch... I limited the upload speed to 40kb/s on weekends and evenings when we're home because the uplink makes our VOIP phone quality unacceptable. But during the weekdays from late evening to 5pm central US time I'm seeding at unlimited uplink. So if you leave your torrents running during the day US time at least I will be seeding you are a higher rate.

As you can see there are several people getting files. Some have a week long wait... sorry. The more people seed the quicker others can download. But I realize it is not practical to think people will seed their received files for the next year or two. Eventually I may have to stop this if it becomes a problem. It is a bit of a pain to keep this running and someday I'm sure I'll stop but I'll do my part for now.

Four of the .iso's I have are bad. GuyPlex, D24, C1, and D19 All Trailers. I tried to download them again but I think they may be bad on Reconlabtech's server.

@bpratt
It's not a "new version", it was a replacement/corrected version. Soon after I uploaded the original Guyplex to swithey's ftp back in August 2007, a user caught the fact that the Jurassic Park clip was in 2 ch, not DD 5.1 as it was supposed to be (all the other clips in the iso were 5.1).

I reauthored the iso so that it was correct, renamed it w/the "51" extension and reupped to swithey's site. For some reason the original was never deleted and then both were passed on.

If you pm me the login for uploads, I'd be glad to send it. Or, if Speedracer would rather do it, that's fine too. Just let me know.

Now seeding the D's completely. Also seeding whatever I have of the T's.

Usually 24/7 though during the day it's capped at 5 kb/s each sadly :(

New schedule for when I uncap it.

Going to be seeding uncapped from 11:00ish @ night to 7:00 a.m. Monday-Friday. Otherwise it'll be 5 kb/s though if someone needs something specifically I may be able to uncap specific torrents for requests during the day.

I seeded the entire D series (well a few were currupt) for several weeks but had spotty activity. The last week I had zero activity and I had to reboot my server and never re-started the seeding. As I said earlier there is really not a critical mass of people to keep the bit torrent going properly. FTP is the only practical way. Even when I was seeding it would take most of a week to transfer one 4.x GB file. Even FTP takes hours at 500kbs.

I've been trying to connect to the tracker for a few days now, but I've never been able to connect. My client also tried to find peers via DHT, but was never able to find any that way either. Are other people successfully connected to the tracker? I can see that the tracker IP is alive and I can connect on port 80, just not on 6969, which is the port advertised in the torrent files. Is anyone announcing via DHT?

For now I've given up on the torrent and I'm just FTPing directly from reconlabtech.

I decided to add another demo dvd to the collection. I uploaded it via reconlabtech's FTP. Nothing fancy, just the usual explosions, LFE and surround. This one has more of the recently released movies, some old ones and a few music video clips. Here is the summary:

Summary: DD Demo
Author: flsun
Filename: demo1.iso
Size: 4.42GB

-Body of Lies
-Bolt
-Live Free..Die Hard
-Dragon Tiger Gate
-Forbidden Kingdom
-Kung Fu Hustle
-Hitman
-Dark Knight
-Hot Fuzz
-Max Payne
-Punisher: War Zone (2 clips)
-Quantum of Solace
-Smokin' Aces
-Transformers (2 clips)
-Valkyrie
-Phil Collins: Finally..Farewell Tour
-Justin Timberlake: Future Sex Loveshow
-Mariah Carey: Live8

to those interested, the file is at reconlabtech's ftp, in the "other" folder (for now until recon will update the files). All the clips are in DD 5.1 as TMPGenc doesnt do DTS tracks. I tried using DVD Lab but its just not user friendly as TMPG. I am also thinking of doing an all music video demo dvd very soon if I can figure out dvdlab for the dts tracks. For now, hope you all enjoy.

I would also like to see a hi def demo disc.

But there are couple of problems with distribution of hi def disc. The ISO image will be much larger as compared to a DVD's ISO image. So it will take way longer for the download.

Second, not many people have a blu ray burner. Someone who has a burner will have to burn the BD and mail it. This will involve media expenses and that person's time.

You may not have understood my post. An AVCHD disc is burned to a standard dvd5 or dvd9 disc.
No BD burner or media required.

A full hour, on a dvd5, of HD demo clips is more than sufficient, IMO, to show off your HT.
Same size as all the other demo discs. I have about 20 of these on both single and dual layer discs.

1280*720 resolution, with an averahe bitrate ~8500 mps. Very nice quality.

Correct, Victor. Here's a tutorial >Click (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=134348)< on how to do it along with info on the free software needed. In the instructions, just substitue "*.m2ts " for "MKV".

Yes, the 2.0 processor is not going to hack it. To re encode, to a avchd, takes me about 10hrs, using a 2.44ghz Core 2 Duo with 3 gig of ram. The 2 processor cores run @100% when doing this.

Your are right. I never thought of burning AVCHD on a standard DVD disc. A question though ...... If this can be done for 1280*720, can it be done for 1920*1080 as well? I wonder how many minutes will that hold.

The AVCHD specs calls for standard dvd's, not BD discs.

It can be done for 1920*1080 but, interestingly, the PQ is not as good.
I also found, when I tried it, the picture "stuttered" every few seconds.

Ok folks, flsun's Demo DVD has been moved out to the disk folder and renamed D28-Demo.iso - Download by ftp as no torrent file has been generated for it.

Get it while the getting is good - as I indicated awhile back, the end is near for my current service and I fear it may be this Sunday...

When the ftp site goes offline, I will take steps to bring something back up soon. All you torrent holders will need to share a little bit of bandwidth. Not a lot, just a little from as many as possible will help.

Put the iso files in the folder your torrent client would download them to and your client will validate the files and then seed them. Be sure to load the torrent files just like you were going to download them. They will find the iso already downloaded and begin seeding.

I would improve the menuing to start with. I would group the clips much like on the Demo 5 disc to help provide an idea just what kind of demo you are providing. Your discs are always the best in the bunch as far as I'm concerned.

These discs have been more about the sound than the video but I think that a careful selection of video can be made to show off the visual capabilities of your theater as well as the muscle and finesse in your sound system.

Maybe those who are more concerned about improving the video on these discs are not getting their butts kicked by a quality sub hard enough. :D

Thank you for the positive comments about my demoes. I've always used bclews demo disk as a template for my own work but mixed in kweezr's "as many good scenes as possible" so the video quality (and probably the audio as well) tends to suffer when one exceeds 20-25 tracks on one dvd-r.

I am actually working on one more using the latest stuff but as you can see if I pursue this course of action this demo won't see light of day until early next year.

I offered to host the files in 1080p streaming HD and 5.1 channel surround and I had no takers. I guess no one cares about these demo discs anymore?

And if you can't use the streaming HD ones then I could just as easily make a superbit DTS version sourced from the HD version. That would be as close to Blu-ray as you could get on a standard DVD.

I find that statement to be very interesting. The difference between DD and DTS is real. However, it is nowhere near the difference between 480p and 1080p. If you have a computer then you have a use for the streaming version.

Whatever, floats your boat though. What movies and scenes would you like to see?

Where can I get the torrents? I don't have the fastest upload speed but my fileserver is on 24/7 :)
I had many of the dvds some years ago, but I lost them :(

Or would it be better to download them over the FTP? Then I need the FTP access ;)
PM would be nice
