Hi Steve,
Downloaded Disc 5 (version 1) from you, 4.125 GB in about 4 hrs and 45 minutes if i recall correctly.
ZIP-file opened just fine (Windows XP internal ZIP manager). Burned files to DVD, played perfectly with my Pioneer DVD player.
handcuff 11-06-05, 11:52 AM Everyone,
Just wondering how the FTP site is working for people that have already downloaded? Looks like everyone is getting some good download speed (T1 speeds or greater) -- that's great! I want to be sure they all play properly.
Looks like if you try to unzip D5-DemoV2.zip with WinRar it fails. However, if you unzip with WinZip (or Ultimate Zip), it expands without fail.
Also, if anyone wants to upload Disc 4 and/or 6, please PM me. Else, mail me the DVD and I'll put it up on the site for everyone to enjoy :)
Thanks,
Steve
Heya Steve,
Thanks for hosting. I am currently DL'ing, and getting good speeds. I can't speak to the Demo5 v2, but it looks like someone else already got it from you and said it worked great.
Thanks again,
-Scott
Hey swithey,
I'll give uploading a shot, send me the info
I'd like to get in on the action as well. I'd be willing to host some on high speed connection and also provide burns to those that need it.
Thanks,
ricwilli 11-06-05, 10:14 PM The new D5 (D5-DemoV2.zip) is up there and ready for download. I have someone downloading and testing it out. We'll know if it's OKAY in a few hours.
There was one user that was about 20% completed on the OLD D5 and I stopped the download. I apologize but did not want you to waste your time downloading a possible corrupt file. Please restart your download with the new version :)
Steve
Hey Steve, that was probably me. I was doing the downloads from my job as they have a T1 line. Unfortunately I won't be able to check on it until I go to work tomorrow.

ricwilli,
The new version has been confirmed to be okay. You just need to unzip it with anything other than WinRar. Disc 5 is very well done. You will enjoy it :)

All I use is winrar. I guess I'll have to download winzip this one time :( .

Tomorrow when I get into work, I;ll re-zip with the "real" WinZip (or possibly WinRar ;)). I had used ultimate zip to make this one. It must not be as compatible with everything.

I have a dvd burner, but haven't used it yet, and will struggle through learning how to use it for this purpose.
Thanks to all here.

You might want to recheck who you sent it to. I got one from you with all of your info, but I don't have the discs yet...
swithey 11-07-05, 04:27 PM Everyone,
Thanks for the kind words about your download experience. Glad it's all working out :)
One quick update. I replaced D5-Demo-V2.zip with D5-Demo.zip. "D5-Demo-Zip" will unzip with WinRar. Guess I need to stay with good 'ole WinZip vs. UltimateZip. WinRar woud not ZIP it (RAR would have worked) because the file size was too large. WinZip did not care.
Both version are still on the server. There is one user still downloading the old V2 version. Once he/she is done, I'll delete it from the server.
In the meantime, feel free to download the latest D5-Demo.zip.
Steve
smiledr 11-07-05, 09:26 PM Ok, I have all the requests already. Originally it was for the first 5 but got 7 request and will send out to all who I PM to. Please do the same when you get it and pay forward so that others may have it.

I sent swithey a copy to be available for downloading soon, also I'll start a vine.

ricwilli 11-08-05, 09:28 AM This is getting to confusing..... I am on two list right now (jvinsepa and kweezr). Originally I got on jvinsepa list cause he has disks 1-5. I also got on kweezr cause he has Disk # 6.
jvinsepa, I know I sent you a pm stating to send me Disks 1-5. Please "DO NOT" send them. I will get all the disks from kweezr. It does not make sense for kweezr to send me only one disk.
kweezr, I pm you for only disk # 6. Please send me all the disk # 1-6.
jvinsepa and kweezr I will pm you again. Sorry for the confusion.
swithey 11-08-05, 09:52 AM Everyone,
Well, the FTP server has been maxed out for the past day and a half. That's great -- glad you guys are getting value. I have good news, I have an faster CPU I can install in the box to possibly squeeze in a few more users to download. Bandwidth is not an issue, it's the PC that does not have enough horsepower.
However, to do this, I need to bring down the server. It should only be down for about 15 minutes but it will interrupt the current downloads. Assuming you are using a full featured FTP client, once you reconnect, you will resume your download where you left off. If I could ask everyone that is NOT currently downloading to let the current users reconnect (once the server is restored) to finish their downloads.
I plan on bring it down at 9:30AM CT today (11/8). I am sorry for the disconnect but I want to make sure I can share it with the most people possible.
NOTE -- don't forget to share your downloaded DVDs with others or this whole concept will never work :)

ricwilli 11-08-05, 09:58 AM How hard is it to build an FTP Server???????????????
swithey 11-08-05, 11:03 AM How hard is it to build an FTP Server???????????????
Ricwilli,
I'm going to take that as a jab in the side with a nudge after that :D
The CPU upgrade did not work. I'll see if I can scrounge up another PC to use. Remember everyone, this is old spare box that I'm using. Let me see if I have anything else I could use and we'll go from there.
In the meantime, looks like the original users are starting to reconnect. Wow, technology works!
Steve
Big Worms 11-08-05, 11:10 AM Thanks swithey for all your effort! The connection speed is awesome!
Any ideas when you will have the new Demo Disc 6? :)

Kweezer has one on the way to me. Once I get it and view it personally ;), I'll put it up on the server for download.

HEY!!!!!!! I didn't mean it like that at all.........If it is easy to build one, I would like to try. That way the avs members can also download from it.

FTP servers are a pretty easy setup. The problem lies with internet bandwidth. While my internet cable access is 5 Mbps download it is only 256 kbps up. The key is to have lots of outgoing bandwidth so guys like me can leech stuff off your server as fast as we can get it.

Yes, very easy to build one. And if you want to do it -- GO FOR IT. The more we get, the better :)
All you need is any PC (Pentium 3 or faster) and an FTP server package. I recommend a stronger FTP server package so you can see who's connected, control bandwidth and limit the number of concurrent users. If you cannot limit the connections, everyone suffers because the PC becomes too overloaded and no one can download anything.
But, the most importantly is your UPSTREAM bandwidth. The greater the bandwidth, the more people can download at the same time. For example, my Comcast account at home is 10Meg down but only 768k up. 768k could support maybe (2) people. Okay, it could support more, but when downloading a 4Gig file, you want higher bandwidth or it will take weeks to download a disc.
This is the Windows based FTP software package I'm using. They have a FREE (2) user version, $$ for more concurrent users:

aragamiz 11-08-05, 02:03 PM Why not go with ********** or ed2k? With BT, files will spread much faster and you dont have to upload so much like ftp and ftp it's one person's work. I'll use BT when I get the demo discs to help others who dont have them and want them.
Thanks!

Rheal_Dubreuil 11-08-05, 08:19 PM I have downloaded D2 and D5. I have only tried D2 and it works well. D5 is downloaded and burned to disc but just have not tried it out yet.
I have created 2 demo's a while back and I am currently uploading them to Swithey. They will be D7 and D8 once he has checked them out and makes them available. I have sent him a list of what is on each disk and he will post them all when ready and has it available on his FTP server.
Thanks this is a great idea.... glad I could give something back. I have also passed the two disc's that I downloaded on to two people.
Have fun and enjoy,

swithey 11-09-05, 04:37 PM I have a few updates for you:
1) I found out the bottleneck was not my PC but the old Linksys Router I was using. I have replaced it with a newer DLink that handles twice the bandwidth of the Linksys. I'm still capping total number of concurrent connections at (8) but you should get a bit more download speed (since most of you have T1 or faster connections). Max download speed (assuming 4 or fewer users) is 2.5Meg/per user :) Side Note -- during the router upgrade, the network connection was interrupted. I apologize for that.
2) We have a new FTP site available from another AVSer (pandasys/Eric). Check out his post HERE (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=6503611&&#post6503611) here
3) Disc 6 should be arriving soon (courtesy of kweezr -- thanks!). Once I have it, I'll upload it to the site.
4) New Disc 7 and 8 are now available. These were created by Rheal_Dubreuil. They are full of some really good stuff.
5) Now, that we have SO many DVDs to pick from, I put a doc up on the FTP site that details every Disc. Please let me know if I have any errors or additions. I have included the name of the author for each disc but I am missing names for D2, D3 and D4. If you are the author or know who the author is, please let me know. I've also attached the .DOC file to this post.
Lastly, enjoy the demos. I'm currently in the middle of my HT construction and can't wait to show it off with these Discs. PM me if you need access to the site.

emmanuel_ramos 11-10-05, 07:32 AM I downloaded demo 5 fom the FTP site and used winzip to unzip the file. Once unzip it contained a number of files with BUP, IFO, VDO extensions.

I am going to assume Demo 3 is also like this.

Thanks I downloaded it last night. Question, who do you use WinRar to put it back together? Just unzip it to one folder or is there another way.
To use winrar just double click on the 1st rar file and select extract all

Well CuteFTP has started working and I've managed to download most of disc 1. In the meantime, if anyone with a paypal account is prepared to spend a little bit extra at the post office on my behalf to get any other discs to the UK then I'd be delighted to reimburse them electronically for their time and trouble.
emmanuel_ramos 11-10-05, 06:02 PM Thank to everyone for helping me figure out how to burn these files!!!

lukescerri 11-10-05, 06:05 PM Hi all... Who do I need to speak to get hold of disc 6.... I'm in Australia.
I see that some people are sending the Disc's around via mail.. probably not the best option.. I can use FTP, I'm also willing to distibute it via FTP once I have downloaded it. Also willing to chip in via pay pal if need be.
swithey 11-10-05, 06:10 PM Everyone,
I received D6 from kweezr today (thanks kweezr). But, unfortunately, the disc was damaged. I've managed to copy everything from it except for these (4) large files:
VTS_04_1.VOB --- 210,478kb
VTS_10_1.VOB --- 403,200kb
VTS_12_1.VOB --- 288,410kb
VTS_40_1.VOB --- 345,522kb
If anyone has D6, I would love if you could upload those (4) files to my server. Once I get those files uploaded, I will put D6 out there for everyone to download.
Please PM me if you are interested. You'll need a special login to have upload privileges.
Thanks for your help in advance.
Steve
swithey 11-11-05, 12:22 PM Everyone,
Wanted to refresh the FTP server rules. I just want to be sure everyone has a chance to get on and download. Max connections has been the case over the past fews days. Please be considerate of others and download one disc, disconnect, try it out and then reconnect to download the next disc.
1) PM me and I will give you a username and password to gain access to the site
2) Because of CPU overload, I am limiting the number of simultaneous downloads at the same time. Please be considerate of others and download only 1 DVD at a time to keep the slots open for others. Also, please connect with "Passive Mode" turned off. When it is enabled, it uses (2) connections which counts as (2) users.
3) Use a robust FTP client (not IE) that supports auto-resume in case your connection gets cut off for any reason that way the download will pickup where it left off. (i.e. WS_FTP or CuteFTP )
4) PLEASE, PLEASE do not try to download these DVDs over dialup or 128kb ISDN it will take literally weeks to get the image.
5) This is a hobby for all of us, so please bear with me if issues come up. Its an older/spare box I had sitting around.
6) If you try to download and max connections are reached, please try again later.
Ill add Discs 4 and 6 once I get them. If anyone wants to send them to me (or has a fast upstream pipe I can use to download quickly), please PM me.
Enjoy.
Steve
emillika 11-11-05, 01:13 PM Has the login/password changed?
victor-eyd 11-11-05, 01:36 PM tkwok,
All 5 slots are filled for disk 6. Do you still want disc 5 or a copy of disc 6 instead?
Also, I'm in contact with kweezr in also trying to sort out disc 6. Apparently, my copy seems to be damaged as well. It can only play on 1 dvd player, and I keep hitting a redundancy error everytime I either try to decrypt or deshrink the file. Hopefully we'll resolve this issue soon and I'll start sending out the copies.
victor
victor,
just hold off on disc #5 for now then (sorry about the mix up) I think swithey is trying to put disc #6 on his FTP. When he does, i'll just grab it from his FTP instead.
thanks for your patience,
tony
ricwilli 11-11-05, 11:09 PM Does anyone know if there is a known problem veiwing dvd movies on DVD +R? The reason I ask is because I just bought a pack of 100 DVD +R for 24.99. They are on sale and I thought it was a bargain. I'm just waiting for kweezr to send me the demo's. Than I can make copies and distribute. I am not going to burn all 100 dvd's.
The following disks were sent out yesterday by 1st class mail: (or in other words, time for the following people to get bombarded with PM's :D )
I will be sending out the following as soon as copies are completed:
dwien: Disks 4&5
RLM5150: #1-5
starlite: #1-5
dabreeze1970: #1-5
swithey 11-12-05, 07:57 PM The wait is over -- Disc #6 is now up on the FTP site. I viewed it briefly a few minutes ago and it has some spectacular DTS content on it. Since I had my kids watching with me, I was only able to view at 100% the Chicken Run and Apollo 13 clips. However, I stepped through all the rest and they all play perfectly.
Great job on the D6, kweezr. A wonderful addition to the mix!
One NOTE --> There are NO menus on this DVD. Kweezr did not include any since the menus caused the audio to be out of sync.
Bclews/Bud -- What program did you use to keep your DTS chapters in sync? Both Kweezr and I want to know. BTW Bud, thanks for uploading the missing D6 files I needed :)

Switney;
Thanks for all you hard work and effort. I'm sure the board appreciate your time an effort. I wanted to provide some feed back to you on the demo. As I stated in an earlier message, I burned disc five. However, It has some problems. the video is fine, but some of the modules has no sound. For instance,Master and Commander, Flight of the Phoenix, and Open range all have no sound. I'm not sure if anyone else has this problem. Other than that, its a great disc, thanks again. Has anyone else experienced the same problem?
Theendisnye 11-13-05, 01:31 AM I wonder if anyone can help. I have been trying to FTP the demo discs from Swithey site and whilst I appear to be able to connect to the site and end up in the correct directory I can't see any files, Swithey can see me connected.
In the log file I see the LIST command followed by
150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for /bin/ls. but no list of files appears and it says it is 0 object(s) 0 bytes.
steve
You are behind some type of firewall preventing active ftp. The ftp client that you use should have the ability to set passive mode. The NT command line can NOT do ftp, use ncftp for command line, it defaults to passive. You can use IE. Go to Tools>Internet Options>Advanced and look for "Use Passive FTP" and you can just use IE.
The URL would be something like: ftp://usernameyouhave@ftp.site.goes.here
IE will prompt for a password, voila'.
Theendisnye 11-13-05, 02:13 AM Thanks Avdork however I believe the site doesn't support passive mode. I am running two firewalls zonealarm and the standard XP SP2 version. any idea how to set these up for active mode?
Steve
Theendisnye 11-13-05, 02:17 AM Having looked at zonealarm I needed to set the site as a trusted site - voila problem resolved many thanks AvSOrk and Swithey for your help on this.
Steve
Great job on the D6, kweezr. A wonderful addition to the mix!

Thanks swithey! if only I could figure out the menus.
Disc 1&2, maybe 3 have a few DTS tracks. I'd like to know what program was used to create
those menus. Bclews #5 doesn't contain any DTS that I'm aware of.
Great job on the D6, kweezr. A wonderful addition to the mix!
I agree! Great job!
Regarding the DTS tracks. I worked through several programs in an attempt to get DVDLab Pro to sync the DTS audio. I believe it was Rejig that finally fixed the problem and allowed me to import the audio and video separately and in sync (I could be wrong).
However, when looking at the DLPro project several clips SHOW as DTS (Master and Commander, Flight of the Phoenix, Alison Krauss), but when I view them in my theater they PLAY as DD??
Don't know what to tell ya...

I used Rejig also and about 2/3 of the clips were out of sync. Bud did you change any of the settings in ReJig? I just used the default. What settings did you use in DLP?
Let me play around with it again to see if I can re-create what I did.
technimac 11-13-05, 04:01 PM Finally I managed to get #6, 7 & 8 demo disks downloaded from Swithey's server using Cuteftp 7. Thanks Swithey for the easy-to-follow instructions too!
Special thanks to all those who compiled the various disks: Clarence, Bclews, Kweezr, Rheal Dubreuil and ricwilli (for the Nero link which actually loads in about 3 seconds on my computer).
I just bought a Samsung SH-W162C DVD burner that comes with software which automatically updates its firmware, including Nero. So now I have Nero 6.6.0.18 which looks a bit different from Nero 5+ (which the links above refer to).
To burn the saved files using Nero 6, choose Recode DVD-Video or Recode Main Movie to DVD , then choose Import DVD and import your source file as per the previous instructions for Nero 5.
Now it's time to enjoy showing these clips to "unsuspecting guests" who ask for a "demo". ;)

Hey Tony... I downloaded D6 from swithey and it worked fine. unfortunatly you may have a currupt download.
oh crap, i'll restart it again then. :(..thanks for the heads up
swithey 11-14-05, 07:42 AM Hey Tony... I downloaded D6 from swithey and it worked fine. unfortunatly you may have a currupt download.
Luke, I zipped it with Winzip. Try Ultimate zip or Winzip to extract. We've had issues with WinRAR for some reason extracting Ultimate/WinZip ZIPs sometime.
I know it's good because I actually download it (just like everyone else) from my own server, extracted and burned to DVD. One other option is the ZIP was corrupted on download. One problem with (1) large ZIP file :(
Steve
swithey, i sent you a PM about FTP access
the crane 11-14-05, 11:14 AM This is one of the best ideas I have seen in a long time. I would love to be part of this. I have a DVD Burner, but my DSL connection isn't anywhere near fast enough to download these types of files.
Considering I just jumped in, I have none of the demo discs. Would someone be so kind as to PM me for my information and send some of these off?
Thanks
swithey 11-14-05, 11:22 AM swithey, i sent you a PM about FTP access
Got it -- PM'ed back :)

swithey 11-14-05, 01:09 PM Everyone,
I have another Router I want to try. This one will do double the speed of the one I'm using now. You will experience a service interruption sometime today. However, your FTP client "should" auto-reconnect your download and continue where it has left off.
Sorry for the break in connection but if this works, I can pump up the speed a bit (per download) and increase the number of users that can download at a single time.
NOTE -- if you were thinking of starting your download soon, please wait until I get the upgrade done. That way, your download will not be interrupted. The actual upgrade will not take long at all.
Steve
swithey 11-14-05, 02:48 PM All,
The new router is in place and bandwidth capacity has nearly doubled. I am now allowing more users on at the same time and at higher speeds :D
Steve

Mike,
The server only has 5 users on it right now -- which is low. Just for fun, reboot your PC and try again. You might even reboot your router (if you're downloading from home -- don't think it would be too smart to do it a the office ;) )
Let me know how it goes.

Sp00n,
See the link below for a file that outlines all (8) Discs. As far as getting them, I am hosting an FTP site you can download each disc if you wish (PM me for a userID and PW). It takes at least 6 hours per disc to download (but can take longer depending on the speed of your Internet connection).
Disc Summary Link (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=6503983&&#post6503983)
However, if you look at the thread above this one where you can put your name on the list and they will send you out copies of all (8). In return you need to make copies to share with (5) folks.

Rheal_Dubreuil 11-15-05, 01:25 AM Man this thread is HT Demo tree is such a good thing. First the DVD's and now some covers. What more could we ask for. I just got six from the FTP server and unzipped it using winzip and created the ISO and burned and watched it. Works great and good job.
I have passed it on to some friends also. Glad I could donate ( D7 & D8) Can't wait to get the covers.
Just a few left to download when I get a chance. keep up the good work and keep sharing the Demo Disks.

You need to download and install Bit Torrent. Let me know how it works. I have a 10mbps pipe upstream so you should get some good speeds. I'm just trying to ease the bandwith load on swithey.
DVD cover for disc #2 has been uploaded to swithey's FTP. I'll be working on the remaining covers throughout this week and sending them to swithey's FTP.

As kweezr pointed out, the problem isn't just creating a menu (as he did on his excellent demo #4), it's finding an authoring program that creates menues and can handle DTS without syncing issues.
dabreeze1970 11-16-05, 03:39 AM pm me your info.
PM on the way..check your inbox. Thanks!
hey guys,
i'm working on a menu for Disc#6 currently, when I'm done, I will uploaded to swithey's FTP.

What program are you using?
I'm using DVDLab-Pro. That seems to handle DTS audio tracks fine.
tony
I use DVDLab Pro and is doesn't handle DTS properly.
Your audio and video will not be in sync.
Can someone here help me verify which LOTR movie is the clip on Disc#1 from? I'm finishing up on the table of contects for the cover of Disc#1 and I don't have the disc w/ me today.

Skywlkr,
Are you running with "Passive Mode" turned off? I'm not support it because each person burns (2) connections -- one for download and the other just sits idle.
PM me your outside IP address and start download of D3. I'll watch and see if I notice anything strang.
Steve
SKYWLKR 11-16-05, 03:37 PM Passive is off, I am downloading the D3 bit torrent but I will try one of the other Discs.

swithey 11-17-05, 10:28 AM Everyone,
I've had a few people PM about getting timeouts on the FTP site. Some after x megs downloaded and one after less than 30 seconds. I'm trying to figure out if this is a trend or just an anomaly with these folks.
If I could please get some feedback from everyone that has download since I upgraded the router (installed Mon, 11/14). If this new router is causing issues, I may need to switch back to the other one. The new one is a Linksys router I used when I tried out Vonage VOIP (that's a story in itself). Linksys used to make some really great stuff but, lately, it just has not been performing as I would have expected. The original one was a DLink and it was rock solid.
Please let me know!
Steve
lovebohn 11-17-05, 10:49 AM I closed my connection and logged back in and was able to see it now. I'm guessing you have too many people dl now since I was not able to get the covers yet?

Actually, there are very few people online now. Might have just been a hickup

Looks like my ISP might be having some trouble -- speed seems delayed and slow. Other users on my network have told me it's slow. I'll get a call into them to see what's the story.
Steve
alexsquared 11-17-05, 12:08 PM I also got disconnected a couple of times, but it seems like a minor issue since we're being able to download so fast! At first I had a hard time getting it to reconnect, but now it reconnects and resumes the download at the quick speed. Thank you swithey!

Just got off the phone with my ISP (Cogent). They have a fiber cut with no ETA as to when it will be fixed. They said to expect latency and packet loss -- which translates into dropped connections on the FTP server :(
I'll post once I know all has been restored. In the meantime, connect to the FTP server at your own risk

I know that I am jumping in late, but I would love to get a copy of all the disks. I would be happy to pay for any expenses via Paypal and once I get a complete set of the disks I will make copies of all of them and send them out to 5-10 people.
Please send me a PM or an email to jkh4343(at)yahoo(dot)com if you might be able to help me out and I will get you my address.
Thanks,

technimac 11-17-05, 03:27 PM Steve,
I just downoaded the Demo 1 cover and it took less than one minute.
Doing a Google search, I also found reference to DTS demos #7&8 at:
http://dvdstation.com.au/store/simitardvd_freeoffer.php
For 2005, there is a #9 as sold here:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6435693715&category=617#ebayphotohosting
and here:
http://cgi.ebay.ie/DTS-DEMONSTRATION-demo-DVD-SURROUND-9-code-0-DVD-NEW_W0QQitemZ6452582998QQcategoryZ617QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1 QQcmdZViewItem
It is also mentioned on the DTS website, described as:
SURROUND 9
This is the latest in our collectible series of demonstration DVDs. These discs are for professional use only, for demonstrating DTS surround sound. If you would like to order copies for your company or channel partners, please email marketinginfo@dts.com.
Looks like a nice package!
Cheers, Bruce

Bruce,
i have that DTS demo disk, it was distributed at CEDIA this year:)
very good scenes on this disk.
if anyone is interested, i should have all the disks except for #4 by this weekend. this will also be the first time i will be distributing the disks. i'll allow the first 10 disks for request. you'll have to pay for the disk and shipping.
Doc Holiday 11-17-05, 07:50 PM I'm sorry to say but I'm taking the torrent link down. Torrents only work if people seed and so far not one person who has downloaded the files has seeded.
I hope you guys understand and don't get mad at me for doing this.
Sorry.
Doc,
Can I seed if I didn't download from you (is there some hash number that needs to be similar?)? I don't have huge upload bandwidth but don't mind contributing during off-hours (wife needs the bandwidth during the day). Let me know if still an option and I can post.
Swithey, FYI. I was able to d/l tonight without the timeouts for the first time all week so this may have improved as of tonight.

change the print size to 10.5" wide by 7.15" tall in photoshop before you print and it should fit like a glove. Remember not to "resample image".

mwagner9 11-18-05, 08:34 PM I'm getting of to a bad start on the vine. Looks like the first disk is giving me a read error. I'm not sure what else to do other than just pass it along to the next person in the line, there only appears to be one bad file on it, but maybe another persons burner/reader will be able to read the disk.
All the other disks appear to be good!
Just wanted to see what the others on the vine thought about this.

Mike,
Please PM which disk is giving you a problem. I sent an extra disk labeled THX that I had some problems with the original. I did not have problems with the copies I sent you. I can make another copy of either disk that is giving you problems.

Doc Holiday 11-19-05, 08:37 PM Due to demand I've put the torrent links backup. I had to cap my upload band with to 50KBps though. So please seed as soon as you get them downloaded. I'm downloading the other disks right now from the FTP site. As soon as I get them I will put them up.

swithey 11-20-05, 08:57 AM Everyone,
Looks like the "faster" Linksys router might be causing timeouts and disconnects when downloading (even at lower speeds). I'm planing to switch back to the Dlink (which was extremely stable before) and see how it goes.
I will not be making the switch until Monday morning sometime. During the switch, all connectivity will be broken. Feel free to reconnect once you notice the site is back up. Thanks for your patience.
Steve

the crane 11-22-05, 08:25 AM Got the discs yesterday. Simply fantastic. I will be back in the office on Tuesday of next week, I will make copies then and send them out then.
Just FYI disc 3 didn't work. It just kept loading. Is anyone else having audio drop out problems with these discs? I had a bunch last night on all the discs, but not horrible. I am beginning to think my DVD player is crapping out.
And why does everyone praise the U-571 depth charge scene so much? The LFE in that scene is average at best. I will take the Incredibles rocket scene or The Haunting any day. Last night was the first time I saw The Haunting scene and I thought the house was coming down. I was no where near reference level and thought my life was ending.
Fantastic stuff, keep up the good work guys. I will gather a shipping list next week. Thanks again

It's not that U571 scene goes that low, but it's the succession and volumn of 40Hz
depth charges. The Haunting digs down to the the low teens, plus room shaking
into the high 20s. The "cold" scene in the Haunting at reference is breathtaking!
the crane 11-22-05, 08:49 AM Kweezr,
Thanks for the clarification. I have heard so much about that scene I guess I was just expecting more.
Breathtaking is a fantastic way to describe that scene. My wife was in the kitchen which is about 20 feet away from my viewing room and was complaining she could feel her head compress. Simply amazing. I can't wait to watch the rest.

ricwilli 11-22-05, 02:55 PM cndavguy, just wanted to let you know that I sent out the disks to you. The only one you are not getting is disk # 5. I was having problems burning that one. You can probably get it from someone else.

My new house is set to be completed the first week of March. Project "Total Audible Destruction" is set to begin the day after closing.
Get that pig finished the day those chairs arrive!!!

swithey 11-22-05, 04:50 PM Everyone,
I have created single file ISOs for each of the Demo Discs. I've included a a quick "How To" doc on how to burn ISOs to DVDs (just in case you don't know how) using the freeware utility DVD Decrypter.
NOTE: D8 directory is still on the site because there is one user that is finishing up a download. Once he/she is done, that directory will be removed.
Lastly, I've received some positive responses about the router switch. Seems the timeouts have been nearly eliminated. Hopefully, it will stay this way for a while :)
Steve
MikeRich 11-22-05, 05:04 PM I got some the earlier disks and just got 5 and 6.
I would like to get 7 and 8. I also just got access to a multi-dVD burner, so I can make sets again.
I know some people PM'd me a while ago and I could not respond (HDD crashed no backups..long story) but I am back up.
Anyone have 7 and 8?
Also, is there any way to get the covers outside of the FTP? I can't find the post on how to get on the ftp..doh!

ricwilli,
I appreciate your generosity! :)
No worries about Disc 5; I can download it from swithy's site (who also happens to be a generous guy!)
Awesome support on this site I must say.
Once I have them all, I will gladly add to the tree.
SKYWLKR 11-22-05, 08:20 PM The times have extended to about 10 min a pop but it will "finish" a file after about 1 gig... then cant resume becuase no resume data is saved becuase it's "completed"
Maybe I'm going to fast for the router so it's cutting me off?
victor-eyd 11-22-05, 11:24 PM I'm curious..
What is on 7 and 8?

Adam,
Received D4 from David Wien a few daya ago. Unfortunately, one of the files was corrupted. ricwilli has one in the mail to me. Once I get it, I'll put it up on the FTP site. If anyone had D4 and wants to upload VTS_01_2.VOB (just over 1GIG in size) -- that's the only file I'm missing.
PM me and I'll give you an account that allows uploads.
BTW -- David Wien, please PM me when you get a chance. I have something I want to ask you.

through the wringer they ask "where can we get a copy?" After I tell them I made
it, they ask "How much to make us one?" My line is "it's not for sale, but........" ;)
victor-eyd 11-23-05, 05:51 PM BTW kweezr,
Disc 4 is great. Its just too bad the dts sync issue (on #6) wouldn't give you a menu system like the one you developed for #4

From what I've found out so far, Adobe Encore could do the menus but I'm not
shelling out that kinda money on these silly demos :p
victor-eyd 11-23-05, 06:40 PM Why don't you ,ummm, "borrow it" from bit torrent?
Victor

coolhand 11-24-05, 12:11 AM Count me in. How do I get on the tree? I keep buying Demo discs (always disappointed too) and this sounds great. I would love all of them if at all possible. PM me for for e-mail and let me know who I should be sending them off to next. THANKS GUYS! AWESOME IDEA.
jjw350z 11-24-05, 12:53 AM Hi Guys,
Just read through most of this. Wow, you guys really are awesome ... this is a VERY nice service to everyone here. We all get some great demo material and all can share in our addiction.
I would love to get a copy of, well, all of the discs. I have a burner and a spindle of discs ready to pay-it-forward.
Please let me know who to PM to get some copies.
Thanks guys!
Jim
Anyone name a good scene from SWEIII for me to use in a Demo Disc.
jacampbell 11-25-05, 10:45 AM Anyone name a good scene from SWEIII for me to use in a Demo Disc.
The opening scene with Anakin and Obiwan flying in their ships during the attack on the Trade Federation. Lots of flying visuals.
The crash landing of the cruiser is amazing also.
John
Visuals are good there, that's for sure. Not enough BOOM, but that has been reported already. I'd have to watch it again and pay attention, looking for potential demo scenes.

I am very sorry about that. I do not know how that happened. Let me know if you still need them. I will send them out to you on Monday. Or better yet:
jacampbell, have you received the disk I sent you. Since you are in Canada, you can make copies for Toolman.
Toolman if you don't want to wait just let me know and I will send them to you on Monday. I am very sorry. It was an honest mistake. I don't know how I missed your name.
Rheal_Dubreuil 11-25-05, 12:49 PM Just wondering if Disc 4 will be available soon? Also are more covers being made for the other disc's or are you guys done making covers and disc labels?
Thanks,
