cyberbri 03-27-06, 11:34 PM I just joined the thread. I am downloading my first disc right now. It'll take a while to get all of them, it looks like.
Maybe I should put myself on this "vine"? How does that work?

I'm new here. Can I have access to your FTP site? I want to dl these demo dvds. Thanks and appreciate your help and hard work.
Al,
hotwls13 03-28-06, 12:32 PM Just an observation:
I have been downloading these for a couple weeks now off and on. THANKS for the FTP Swithey!!
Anyway, I was going to remove myself from the tree, when I noticed that I'm no longer on the tree. Back on page 32, I added myself at #44, then a couple posts later, someone else added themselves, but cut me off. Not a big deal as I am just downloading them, but I saw at least one other instance of this after me.
We just need to be careful not to cut people off the bottom.
sega_97 03-28-06, 03:29 PM Hi all, I just found about this thread. Can someone please PM with the FTP location and which FTP client I should use to get the files. Thanks,
Deja-vue 03-28-06, 04:39 PM when I noticed that I'm no longer on the tree
it looks like it happened between post #958 and 959.
Anyways,
I got 2 more Sets of the DVDs (1-15 plus one extra) to give away, if you are on the list but cannot for whatever reason download them from the FTP-Server, (dial-up, port-blocking, etc), please PM me with your E-mail address and Mailing address.
;)
Looks like people are truncating the list and adding their name...I PMed two members so far. in post 945 I added my name in number 45 now the new list does not have it...:(

This is the only place I know off that has allowed it flourish
Sound and Vision had one a year or so ago(CDs), one was compilation of pipe
organ music that would give you sub a killer workout....down to 10hz! I'll have
see if I can find it. Distro has been stopped by it's creator.
There was some talk of starting one at Home Theater Spot once, but the owner
quickly shut it down.
Home Theater Forum, threads have been closed

cyberbri 03-29-06, 11:56 PM I have successfully downloaded and burned discs 1, 2, 4 and 6 (with DVD Decrypter). But when I burned discs 7 and 8, the discs wouldn't read in my Panasonic modded region-free player. I tried burning disc 7 again, but it didn't work. Re-inserting them into the computer, DVD Decrypter says their status is "incomplete." I notice both of these discs (7 and 8) are listed as being authored by the same person, Rheal_Dubreuil.
Re-inserting discs 2, 4 and 6 comes up "Complete" in DVD Decrypter (my computer won't read disc 1, though).
Has anyone else had problems with these discs? Anyone have any ideas?

Sounds like you got a bad download. Re-download D7 and see what happens. Make sure of the following:
- You are using a new version of your FTP app
- You are downloading/saving the file to a NTFS formatted drive because FAT32 has a 4GB limit on file size (which will truncate the file if larger when downloaded). A number of the DemoDVDs are over 4GB.
- Burn it onto a DVD-RW so you can test it out before making another coaster.
Good luck.
cyberbri 03-30-06, 11:56 AM Thanks, Steve.
I am using the latest WS_FTP I think. It was just those two downloads that didn't work correctly, the ones before it did. I will try downloading them again. I'll also check my HD format type.
Deja-vue 03-30-06, 12:03 PM Kweezr has Disc #15 in mail to me. I should have it by weekend or early next week. Once it is received, I'll post it on the FTP site.

Where are we at in the list.... who's next to get the disks?
I would like to be next..
cyberbri 04-01-06, 01:55 PM I had trouble burning discs 7 and 8 before, so I dl'ed them again. I just tried to burn them and #5, and they all came out "incomplete" when they finished in DVD Decrypter and wouldn't play on my modded region-free player. That makes 6 coasters so far.
I'm re-downloading them again. But is there something wrong with the files or something? 1, 2, 4, 6 and 9 have all worked fine so far.

I had similar problems, although I don't recall if it was with the same discs as you. I switched to a different FTP client and re-DLed. That fixed the problem on all but one. After two DLs with one FTP client and one on another, I just figured I wasn't supposed to have that disc. ;) Hope this helps.
What FTP client is recommended?
Just got Disc 2. If anyone in oz wants a copy, PM me.
Cheers again Swithey, I'll try to get the rest over the next few months, as they are BIG! :p :D
What FTP client is recommended?
I switched to SmartFTP - Free download. Available here: http://www.download.com/SmartFTP/3000-2160-10028635.html?part=dl-SmartFTP&subj=dl&tag=button
cyberbri 04-02-06, 04:02 AM I'm using WS-FTP, on swithey's recommendation. With this program I have had trouble with 3 of the discs so far (although I'm re-downloading them, this time trying not to interrupt any transfers for any reason).
On the ones that failed, look at the file sizes and see if they are larger or smaller than the ones listed on swithey's ftp site.
I had the same problem when using a FTP program called 3Dftp, and found that it for some reason was D/L the files wrong and was actually making some of them larger than they should be. I even had the 30 day free trial version of WS_FTP Home version do it as well on a few. I finally got the WS_FTP Professional version, and then with that one I no longer had any problems.
Using CoreFTP Lite edition here and it works perfect. Check it out.
cyberbri 04-02-06, 06:08 AM I'll try CoreFTP now.
With the trial version of WS_FTP, I tried some more files. I confirmed that both Disc 10 and 11 had the same number of bytes on my computer as they do on the FTP. Then I tried burning Disc 10, and it ended up "incomplete" and unreadable by my DVD player.
Hopefully it's just the FTP client software...
ginigma 04-02-06, 12:05 PM I'll try CoreFTP now.
That's what I used. I haven't watched all the disc's yet, but so far I haven't seen any problems. No problems burning them either. I used Roxio, not the latest version though.
I was having timeout problems with WSFTP, which has been my ftp client for years. CoreFTP isn't bad though.
neuronbob 04-02-06, 12:32 PM I got behind and haven't updated. I sent discs 1-8 out a while ago...and I also corrected the list by going back a few pages and noting who's added themselves and in what order...

If you need access to the FTP site, please PM me. I'm still awaiting D9 v2, D10 v2 and D16 from victor-eyd. Once they are available, I will let you know. I also updated the "HT Demo Disc Summary Doc" with all the latest titles (check out my sig for the link).

Yes, a few scenes swapped out. And, he fixed the "stuttering" it did when playing some of the movie clips.

technimac 04-04-06, 02:20 AM These are great demo discs. Very much appreciated.
But I'm a bit confused about the (Fly the Friendly Skies) AF1 clip on Victor's DD #10 though. Is it an F-14 that fires a missile at AF1, or is it a MIG-29?
It's too bad that the "Tomorrow Never Dies" clip(s) couldn't be included with V-2 of this Demo Disc. I do have the original #10, and that clip is the one I use to demo my couch-mounted bass-shakers for "unsuspecting guests". During those explosions, they go, "Ohhhh...." and get a look on their faces that is priceless......
Thanks to everyone who took the time to build and share these Demo Discs.
victor-eyd 04-04-06, 02:52 AM It was a mig that fired the missle- and an f-14 shielded it against af1.
To be honest, I liked the TND clip- it's bass heavy for sure- but I just felt it wasn't a clip I really wanted since the friendly skies segment dealt with flying scenes, and only in the last minute did you have actual flying. If you grab v1.0 before swithey removes replaces with v2.0, it (and along with the rest of the scenes that aren't in v2.0) still makes a great demo.
Victor
velvet396 04-04-06, 03:39 AM How are the d/l speeds from the ftp site?
How long is the wait on the waiting list? I see the number of names, but roughly how much time might that mean?
swithey 04-04-06, 09:19 AM How are the d/l speeds from the ftp site?
At max speed, it takes about 6-8 hours to download a single DVD.

The following NEW discs are now available for download on the FTP site
- Disc #9 v2
- Disc #10 v2
- Disc #15
- Disc #16
Everyone please thanks Kweezr and victor-eyd for their contributions.
I went ahead and kept v1 of Discs #9 and #10 just in case anyone wanted the older versions. I've also updated the "HT Demo Summary Doc" to include descriptions for both v1 and v2 of those discs (check out my sig for the link). Victor, we just can't let them die :p
If you need access to the FTP site, please PM me.
Are there going to be new labels and covers for the new discs??
Thanks to everyone for the great work!!
technimac 04-05-06, 02:05 AM Just finished DLing Demo 16 and, yes it's an "edge of the seat" gripper.
On the HT Demo Disc summary, the first two categories listed for Demo 16:
•Starship Battles
oStar Trek: 1st Contact: Enterprise/Starfleet vs. Borg cube
oStarship Troopers: Battle over Planet P
oStar Wars: Revenge of the Sith (Ep 3): Battle over Coruscant
•Fly the Friendly Skies
oTomorrow Never Dies: 007 steals nuclear torpedoes at terrorist market
oAir Force One: F-14 fires missile at AF1
oThe Aviator: Hughes tests/crashes prototype aircraft
actually aren't on the disc. I think that's an innocent typographical error, because they're on the original version of Demo Disc #10.
As I said though, the disc is first rate.
And a special vote of thanks to Swithey for making them available via FTP.

Yep, a small copy/paste error on my part. I have fixed the mistake. Thanks for bringing it to my attention
If anyone is interested, I have a request.. I would love to include a description/chapter name for each title associated within the Demo DVD. For example in Disc #1, when it says "Finding Nemo", what's the chapter name/description is it referring to? Just a request that would help people out when browsing through the "Disc Summary Doc" trying to figure out which one to download.
Hi, I just stumbled on this thread, can someone tell how to receive or where to download the disks.

cyberbri 04-05-06, 01:31 PM I'd be interested in putting together a demo disc of my own to share. Is there a tutorial or guide somewhere that lists the software needed (preferably free or available on a trial basis) to put one together?
And I assume that non-R1 discs can be used as well. I have the R3 DTS versions of HoFD (full bit-rate DTS) and Kung Fu Hustle (I think it's half bit-rate DTS).
I have some good DVD scenes I haven't seen on any of the discs, and I also noticed that the Fight Club plane scene is in 2-channel on a few of the discs (I have the DTS version), among other things.
If I can't do one myself, I could at least come up with a list of cool scenes to put on a demo disc.

Thanks for the demo dvds. They look great. I'm interested on how to create them. Can someone walk me through on how to make these dvds? I'd tried before but I always have the lips synch issue. Here is what I did:
1. rip diff chapters on dvd decrypter
2. authorize those chapters on dvdlab pro
3. burn them in nero
My demo dvd has about .5 or 1 sec delay on the audio. I have tried to use IFOEdit(forgot the exact name, has been about 1 yr) to fix it. It still came out bad. Can someone give me a couple pointers? I really appreciate it.
Thanks and keep up the great work.

Al,
Use DVDshrink (http://www.dvdshrink.info/index.php) to rip scene then run each clip through ReJig (http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_tools/rejig.cfm) before importing into DVDlab. That will eliminate your syncing problem, for dolby digital only, will not help with dts.

Happens to me too. Make sure you have a good FTP client that can resume.
ginigma 04-10-06, 01:41 PM Is anyone else getting disconnected from the ftp server? I get >50% complete and get disconnected and have to start over. Am I doing something wrong?I was having a problem with ws_ftp so I tried CoreFtp. Still had a couple problems (hey, they're big files, ya know!) but at least Core resumed well when I reconnected. Dont remember a link, but search or try download.com.

fisherman 04-10-06, 01:56 PM I would strongly recommend that you do. We know have many disc volumes eg 1-10, 11-14 ,9&10v2 all on the same vine . They are beginning to morph
I can start a new vine in a new thread with Disk #15 v3. Should I also include #16, since I have already downloaded from swithey?
cyberbri 04-10-06, 01:57 PM WS_FTP let me resume, but I had trouble burning many of the completed downloads with it. Core FTP worked great for me as well - no more problems burning the downloaded files.
Now if I could just find a shareware/freeware DVD-creation program to make a demo or two of my own for everyone...
Geordon 04-10-06, 10:20 PM See new thread. Thanks for the new disk, Kweekr. Can't wait to see what you find for the next one.

victor-eyd 04-11-06, 10:33 PM I have two more which are about 90% complete. Swithey tells me that they are still popular but I'd like others to chime in to see whether these demo (1-16) dvds still have some staying power. This will cue me as to whether or not to release them.

#16 is rather over the top, I agree. That's why I created these 2. I chose just about all of the demo clips to be not be so overtly violent in presentation
About the most violent of the animation demo is in the dinosaur clips- some dinos get to eat sheep or other dinos or get trampled on whereas the scifi demo shows mostly spaceships crashing or similar. There is a hidden submenu that might skirt the violence.
Thanks for responding.
Victor
Geordon 04-11-06, 10:56 PM Victor,
There were maybe 2 clips that were excessive. I guess, similar to the Doom clip on Kweezr's #15. Watching by myself, I probably wouldn't have thought much about it, but with my wife, I felt uncomfortable, knowing she doesn't go for it.
On the other hand, that was a great choice from Forrest Gump. I forgot that the movie was about the war. The only thing I ever remember about it is when Forrest is sitting back home on the bench, discussing the "box of chocolates" and Bubba Shrimp.
victor-eyd 04-11-06, 11:03 PM So you didn't play the Robocop clip on #15??
Maybe you shouldn't.....
Geordon 04-11-06, 11:12 PM Okay, you got me. I did see it, but the difference was, I watched #15 by myself, so it didn't bother me. Doom was the example that popped into my mind, as I hadn't seen the movie before -- only played the first couple computer games.
Again, don't let me discourage you from make the disks as you see fit. I am sure there will always be something graphically, verbally, or otherwise on any collection that may be less than appealing to one of the viewers.
fouriron 04-12-06, 01:30 AM Anyone still hosting D2-LFE-Demo.iso?
I'm trying to DL using Shareaza and have been stuck at 91.71% for the last three weeks. Can anyone help me get the last bit of this demo disc? If you can host it for a day or two I should be able to complete this upload and will be willing to host it myself for a while for others to DL as well.
PM me if you know of an easier way to get the remainder of this disc directly, or someone please put it back out there for a bit longer so I can finish the DL. Thanks all, and especially to the genius' that put these together....AWESOME!
fisherman 04-12-06, 11:12 AM Victor,They sound great and would be a well rounded addition to the collection.Steve

I had a chance to review disc#15 yesterday. The navigation is great. One thing I don't like is the text on those movie tittles are too small for my 32" tv. I can't see those words from 12' away. Also on the very first menu screen, I can barely see the option "main menu?" It got cut off on my tv or maybe it's just me. I hope I'm not too picky...
Thanks for the demo. It's great. Keep up the good work. Maybe once I perfected the audio synch problem. I'll be making one as well. Thanks.

Al,
On my 42" plasma at 11ft it's lttle tough to read also, I'll make the text larger next
time. the menu button is a couple of inches from the bottom on my screen, do
you have a 4x3 tv? menus are set up for 16x9.
Can't improve if no one nit picks.
Made a personilized demo for someone and I left off the animated sceenshots
and used larger text so it could be easily read on smalled screen.

You can download individual discs and burn them yourself.
Just PM swithey, get Core FTP Lite and DVD Decrypter, and you're good to go.

If you are viewing this page right now, then you already know how to turn on your computer and launch your web browser and navigate to this thread. Its not anything more involved to use Core FTP to download the demos and DVD Decrypter to burn to DVD-R. Literally, its as easy as using your web browser. It may take some time if your on dial-up to download the files, but on cable its only about 5 hours. Just let your PC run overnight and you'll have it in the morning. Easy as pie.

I am using a Mac so I am a little worried about the software used. Is it using some proprietary file formats or can any good Mac DVD burning program can do. I already have Toast and DVD2oneX2 that can already do this job and I can also get my hands on Popcorn if need be. Would any of those applications do the job ?
Ingeborgdot 04-17-06, 08:42 AM I haven't used these before. I use Edius Pro 3, Pinnacle 10 for editing but have never used these others. I have pm'd swithey but have heard nothing back. He may be too busy. Isn't he supposed to have a web site? So I take it that no one would be willing to make me one for payment? I bought a cd on the coca cola thread for slides for pre movie watching. I paid with paypal. If anyone would care to make a little money if swithey doesn't get back to me let me know. Is this on Swithey's website? Where is it? Thanks.

These are in ISO format, which is a standard disc-image format. No problems on the Mac. Your Toast will handle it, as will other shareware/freeware Mac programs. Lately I've been using Simply Burns (http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/simplyburns.html) which you can download through the Apple website. Just tell your software that you are burning from an image or disk image.
As for the download, it's easy with the latest Mac OS-X. From the Go menu, select Connect to Server. Type in "ftp://[swithey's site goes here] and hit the button. The site will prompt you for the login and password which swithey gave you. Then the site opens up like any other server folder. Cool! To download a file, just click-drag it from the server window to a local folder or desktop and then wait for 8 hours while it downloads. :)

Thanks for the info. By the time I got to read your post, I had already received an answer from Smithey and had started downloading the ISOs.

I took the time to download this software and I'll sure give it a try. I do love Toast by find it slows my iBook quite a bit when I burn something. Maybe Simply Burns is less CPU intensive. At that price, it is worth a try ;)

For some reason, I always forget that option. It's not like I'm using crappy software though. As a matter of fact, Yummy FTP is quite good and does everything I need it to do really well. But sometimes, the easiest things are the hardest to remember. Oh well :o
Now, I just have to wait until these images are downloaded before I can enjoy them.
Keep them coming boys !!!
starlite 04-17-06, 09:46 PM Ingeborgdot,
The dvd images for download are not on a web site. It's an ftp site where you need to use an ftp client to download the files. It's been a rule here that you need to get the ftp site address and login information from swithey through pm, so please understand that I can't post the information. That's a way to control the download speed without overloading the traffic.
By the way, I see that you are in Kansas! Well, I'm in Manhattan, KS, so let me help out a fellow Kansan. ;) PM me with your contact information and which disks you need, and I will make copies for you. No payment is necessary. I'm just glad to find another member in KS.

I apologise that I am unable to sent to those members who are not in my area. Hope you guys understand.
Here I would also like to say thanks to those who made the Demo Discs and especially Swithey who offer the server for us to download. :)

scubasteve2365 04-20-06, 08:19 PM has anyone thought about making a torrent of the demo disk, that way one person doesnt have to HOST/Speed control them?
if we were to bit torrent all the DVDs, then they should stay in availble circulation and have great speed to boot.
I wouldnt mind starting the torrents, but I dont have the best seeder ability (35kb/s up) but I could get us started.
scubasteve2365 04-20-06, 11:28 PM Ok,
I got access to the FTP.
I started with Disc6. I will make a torrent and get it kick started on another AV/HT forum.
Anyone care to comment on which discs they think are the best? I tried looking through the thread but its too long, and it has alot of post about the IN/OUT status.
victor-eyd 04-21-06, 12:04 AM I really liked 9,10,16, 17,18,19 (oohh, that's gonna be a nice one)
But I'm biased..

Don't overlook Disc #5. Its what got me into this mess in the first place. Excellent demo!

media2368 04-21-06, 04:56 AM Hi Guys,
I managed to download 2 demo #15 and #16. I can make 3 copies each and mail out but I am from Singapore so in order to cut down my mailing cost, I hope to mail to those members who are in this Area. If any members here who are from Singapore, you may PM me your Mailing Address.
I apologise that I am unable to sent to those members who are not in my area. Hope you guys understand.
Here I would also like to say thanks to those who made the Demo Discs and especially Swithey who offer the server for us to download. :)
2 set out of 3 reserved by Oliverliim and Jackhard. Left 1 set now. :)
swithey 04-27-06, 10:35 AM The FTP is down for the moment. Looks like either my ISP is having issues or my Router is getting sick.
Let me do some more investigative work and I'll post once it is back up.
EDIT: Just got confirmation that Cogent is having issues nationwide. No ETA on when it will be back up.

FTP Server is back online. Looks like everything is back to normal.
I have two more which are about 90% complete.
Any progress?
Thanks!
victor-eyd 04-28-06, 01:52 PM I'm only waiting for my ST:6 movie to show up and I'll be compiling both so hopefully swithey will have it by next week.
My friend and his son are also busy compiling the all-anime dvd for me to put together so I'm debating whether to send them all at once or two now and #19 later...
I'm also wondering whether the swan song #20 should be a "BEST OF" demo from the previous 19 discs.
Just something to think about
Victor
Any word on new DVD labels and DVD covers for the new discs??
victor-eyd 04-28-06, 03:03 PM Any word on new DVD labels and DVD covers for the new discs??
Tony (tkwok) did the covers from 1-15 but lately I heard nothing new from him regarding the rest.
Its possible he's retired.

We tried this before. The problem was there were way to many leachers, about 10 to 1. I have no problem with a torrent and if somebody want's to setup a tracker I'm more then happy to seed them.

Chris_006 05-05-06, 04:00 AM Any updated information? Looking to get my hands on Disc #1-6... will gladly reproduce and send back out.

I can seed too. I've got the ISOs sitting on my media server (XBMC rocks! No burning DVDs to check out the demo clips), and I'm sure I could throw some BT client on there.

I once asked him if he could send me his backgrounds so I could recreate the covers for double-slim cases. He said he didn't have them anymore but they could easily be found on the web.
They couldn't (not by me anyway). Anyone else know the source of those images?

I'm using hub-printable discs, so I wanted to 'close the hole' a bit on the disc label. I've found most of them (so far) at http://www.spoonloads.com/section.php?what=Wallpapers
BTW, Tony did an excellent job on the labels and covers. I just wanted to say thanks to him and everyone else involved with these demos.
victor-eyd 05-06-06, 01:35 AM The animation dvd is completed. I'm trying to sort out a bug in the menu but otherwise its a truly fun demo disc to add to the collection. Once sorted, I'll send swithey a copy for distro.

Deja-vue 05-06-06, 02:53 PM ok, i mailed out some 140+ DVD's so far to several members in the last few weeks.
I got 2 more Sets (17 DVD's each) ready for immediate shipment.
If you cannot download from the FTP-Site for whatever reason, PM me with your Info.
We'll exchange Addresses, you will then mail me 17 blank DVD's and a stamped Envelope so i can send them back to you.
I always burn 3 DVD's at one time and it's no big deal to me, since i am working on Computers here in my lab anyways, and i got one of my own machines dedicated for burning.
Cheers!

Yes, I used the backs (with the scene listings) for each side of my double-slim case.
What I wanted to do was keep the front and add the second disc's scene list to the back.
I'm using hub-printable discs, so I wanted to 'close the hole' a bit on the disc label. I've found most of them (so far) at http://www.spoonloads.com/section.php?what=Wallpapers
Excellent. Thanks!
edit- Upon furthur review, it looks like Tony did a lot more editing to those images than I thought. It'll be hard to mimic his work.
ICLKennyG 05-06-06, 09:39 PM I am looking to demo some new speakers and possibly some new displays and want to create a demo disc of my own as I have to go to several different stores, and have some specific scenes I would like to demo to keep things challenging(for the equipment, not me) but consistent. I have some great source material DVD's but I don't want to lug a binder into each store and swap 5 discs for each set of equipment. I know how to compress discs to xvid or other formats but I want to just burn them at full DVD quality. What software should I use to unprotect my files and then arrange them on a disc?
Ingeborgdot 05-09-06, 07:58 AM Has anyone made covers and labels for 15&16?
Deja-vue 05-09-06, 09:25 AM Folks, i am getting a lot of requests from Members with zero posts wanting the Demos.
I think it is not fair to those who put themselfes on the List, or am i wrong about this?
I mean, at least add yourself to the List, there is a lot of people waiting right now.
What should i do?
victor-eyd 05-09-06, 11:28 AM Go with the List. Its easier to keep track.
G'day, Deja-vue, I am not sure what list I should be on, but would be willing to go on one, just pm me with the details.

gidday, mate!
check out post # 1053 on page 36.
I'll have some more Sets done any tic of the clock.
(well, next week, i guess.)
PM me with your mailing address, when you're done.

Ok, I thought I saw something in this scene from the demo DVDs. I had the kids in the HT, so didnt rewind it, but later saw a d**k after the last building collapses! Can see it for less than a sec, but its definitely there.
Was this in the film or did somebody get creative with the clip itself?
victor-eyd 05-22-06, 01:23 AM Alright,
I need 3 volunteers willing to spread the good news around...
DVD17 and DVD18 are ready for distribution. I will need 3 candidates to help the demo tree going by making copies and further circulating these two demo dvds.

smitchell24 05-23-06, 08:47 PM Hi, I have received discs 1-16 via B & P & they are awsome!!!!! Anyone willing to do a B & P (blanks & postage) for Discs 17 & 18, for someone who does not have a DVD-burner??
(kid friendly demo discs would be great for 5 year olds at a b-day party in 7.1 surround, wih butt-kickers on a 106 inch projector,!)
PM me if so,
Thanks,
Steve
victor-eyd 05-23-06, 08:52 PM PM me instead

Drhack,
That is part of the movie. Think back to scene where they are in the projection booth...
why not post these on the internet via **********... seems like too much wasted effort burning DVDs and sending them out or using an FTP server.
Let the current technology work for you!
victor-eyd 05-24-06, 10:47 PM ********** sounds like it would work but I've heard too many negative (as in not working out for the person who initiated it) reactions to be sustainable.
Personally, I'm okay with snail mail.
Victor
MrPorterhouse 05-25-06, 12:08 AM why not post these on the internet via **********... seems like too much wasted effort burning DVDs and sending them out or using an FTP server.
Let the current technology work for you!
Using an FTP source is ideal if you've got a generous host, such as Swithey. Its about 3 to 4 times faster than torrenting the demo files. I'd average 2 days on cable to torrent a 3-4 GB demo disc, and I could get the FTP file overnight.
bugman72 05-25-06, 08:52 AM The DVDs were originally placed on Torrent sites for download. The biggest problem with torrents is that you have a lot of "leechers" and very little, if any "seeders". Going the route of the FTP is a better option, as it allows you to control who gets the DVDs (we all like having "exclusive" stuff :) ) and you, as a downloader, are guaranteed a decent transfer rate.
Hello,
I was wondering if I could get FTP access to D/L some of the demo disks?
In return I could host them for others to download on my ftp site.
Thanks,
Luke

Luke,
Send a PM to Swithey for FTP access.
PierceIt 05-27-06, 12:34 PM I would like FTP access to download the HT Demo Discs too - In turn, I can host the files on a webserver and/or FTP server for download and can just post those links and login info o this forum.
What does it mean to "PMSwithey" for access? (sorry, I'm new)
thanks!
PierceIt 05-27-06, 12:40 PM ok, I figured out what "Send a PM to Swithey" for access means, and I just did that. After he replies to me withlogin info and I download the files I'll post on my server too and post links.
thanks

griplimited 06-05-06, 03:30 PM im definitely interested. pls add me to the list
cyberbri 06-05-06, 04:08 PM I downloaded the newest 2 discs off the FTP.
We moved, and now I have a Comcast cable modem, rather than MCI DSL. I noticed that as time goes by on the download, the speed slowly drops from 150-175K to 10% of that if enough time goes by. After a few hours the speed was dropping to half that rate. I would have to close down the FTP program and restart it to get back up to speed.
Is this the FTP server? Or is it something Comcast is doing to combat file sharing or something?

Comcast can be sneaky sometimes. If they notice a large download from a single connection, they might tier it down slowly. If you want the beat "The Man", try this app -- ReGet (http://www.reget.com/). It opens many sessions to the same server and bonds them together for a faster pipe. Also, if the connection is ever lost, it will keep trying until it reconnects.
NOTE: My server limits the number of connections per user to (2) -- so that would max you out at 4meg down (2Meg per connection). That would get you a DVD in about 4.5 hours :D
cyberbri 06-05-06, 05:30 PM That's what I thought.
Thanks.

swithey 06-06-06, 10:13 AM The FTP server decided to get a little upset. I've rectified the problem. If you were downloading, you will probably need to re-start your download. If you were using a good FTP app, it should resume where it left off.
alexsquared 06-06-06, 02:12 PM does anyone have a listing on the actual size of each disc? This would be helpful when downloading. The reason I say this is that on the FTP, it says that D14 is only 5.97 MB. I'm kinda doubting that as I'm currently on about 902 MB on my download. Great job on everything, though!

RaginCajun92 06-07-06, 02:01 PM Has anyone had any problems with any of the demo discs on either of the Toshiba HD-DVD players? I tested the most recent 5 discs and they all experience a slight 1/2 second pause every 10-15 seconds or so when playing back. The same discs play just fine without any hiccups on my Oppo dvd player. So far, this is the only problem I have had with the XA-1 HD-DVD player.
Anyone else experience similar occurances?
Thanks,
Tom

How are you guys/gals getting the commercial discs? Download, backup copy, or purchase? Thanks
Thomas_S 06-07-06, 07:35 PM Like swithey and I talked about in PMs:
I've got D18 downloaded already and have setup a torrent (its the latest demo disk) for anyone interested:
http://www.mlgpwncast.com/avs/D18-SciFiDemo.torrent
Anyhow, I'll keep seeding it for as long as I can. Hopefully a good 2 or 3 people can get it by the night's end. To those that DO complete it - please keep seeding :p.
BTW - its a tracker-less torrent so I don't know if you'll need the latest BT software or not.

http://www.mlgpwncast.com/avs/D18-SciFiDemo.torrent
Anyhow, I'll keep seeding it for as long as I can. Hopefully a good 2 or 3 people can get it by the night's end. To those that DO complete it - please keep seeding :p.
BTW - its a tracker-less torrent so I don't know if you'll need the latest BT software or not.
It seems there are no seeders. I have downloaded 2.4 GB already but now everything has stopped. Could you please seed some more ? Pleaaaaaaase

Thanks ! I'm seeing 1 seeder at this time but at least I'm downloading something. I'm up to 2.52 GB right now. Only 1.5 GB to go !

Just got on from both my work and home PCs. Check your PM.
Typezer0 06-12-06, 11:30 PM I started out popping in all the different dvds I have, to show people some samples on the HT. Then I got some software and started making my own complination disc. Totally unaware of all these demos for download. Mine had some nice stuff on it but it had some edit problems and the menus were very simple.
So I have to thank all you involved in putting the discs together and being nice enough for us to have access to them at your expense, equipment and time.
Excellent job on the set-ups, menus and choices. Thanks Swithey for the FTP set-up. I averaged 175-213KB. About 5-6 hrs for a 4+gig disc. All so far seem to play fine. I'm half way through disc 11.
So far I particually like Diana Krall (disc 6, sounds awesome), Animusic (disc 1 & 11), U571 (water explosions sound excellent).
I still think the best thing so far I've heard is the tomb/vault unlocking in Underworld.
Maybe consider the corn field alien leg scene, and the breaking in the house from Signs and the Balrog from FOTR if anyone is interested in doing another disc.
If there's no audio on a particuallar clip (probably dts), your dvd player might not be set-up to play dts. Go in the menu set-up and turn it on. I had to on one dvd player.
Thanks again.
SbWillie 06-13-06, 09:24 AM maybe I got bumped due to it being full or something...

Nope!
FTP appears to be working properly.
i know.
:)
Swithey, I downloaded 3 disks, 3,6 and 7 from your FTP site. Thanks for providing the download. It took nearly 3 weeks to finish downloading through my cable connection. The connection kept dropping after every 200MB or or so downlaod. Nice collection, superb quality audio and video. Thanks.
---k--- 06-22-06, 04:34 PM It would stop downloading for me too, but it was because my computer was going into sleep mode. Make sure you turn off the power settings.
I'm working on downloading Disk 7. The first six disks downloaded fine. I've burned 1 2 and 3 and they are awsome. They are taking about 8 hours each to download.....no drops. Great work!
