Thanks to SWithey I have downloaded all the ISO files. If anyone has a slow connection or problems with download, I would be willing to make copies. Just need to PM and send me postage paid envelopes with dvd-rs. I will make the discs as quickly as I can and send them back.

Thanks again to all involved. It's a great project and I'm happy to be able to help.

M

I'd like to put forth the same offer, I've grabbed the first 5 and would be more then happy to burn and send out to anyone who can't do it themself... I'm in Burlington, Ontario, Canada, so if someone wants them locally drop me a pm and I can meet you and swap my burnt discs for your blank ones!

Thanks swithey for the ftp site!

Probably not the right place to ask, but I am looking for the right software to rip chapters from a DVD (the Live 8 DVD which I own) then put the chapters back onto a DVD with the same high quality in the order I prefer. The Live 8 concert is 4 discs and it is awesome, but I would like to have my favorites from the set on one DVD.

Any suggestions? Preferrably free software. :)

does dvdshrink degrade the video/audio at all? Shrink to me implies compression and that means a lesser quality. I want this live concert to be the same as the original just in the order I prefer.

Anytime you copy or rip from something original you degrade the video and audio to some extent. You can minimize the compression by minizimizing the numbers of tracks to rip onto one dvd but unless you've tried it and seen it firsthand there's no way to tell yourself whether you think it will work or not for your needs.

Personally, I'm not that big into video quality as much as others and even when I burned down to 65% or so compression its still more than watchable on my 100" screen. YMMV

DVDShrink provides the option of "No Compression" and is perfect for what you want to do. When I created Demo #5 I used DVDShrink for all of the ripping (no compression), and DVDLab Pro for the compilation, but I believe DVDShrink will also do a simple compilation.

Good luck, and let us know how it turns out.

You guys rock! I just used DVD Shrink and it did exactly what I wanted. It even does the burning, and it's full quality. I am going to make a separate DVD with just the Pink Floyd stuff.

Thanks again!

ahh the never ending question regarding the anime demo. Once my friends are done- which is still taking forever (one of them is his teenage son  )

I'll compile and send it to swithey once ready.

As to covers- anyone with photoshop skills and mastery over disc covers want to chime in?

Hey everyone I figured since I currently have a website for a personal project that I am not using yet so I figured I would lend to everyone here. By that I mean I uploaded a THX Demo DVD, nothing copyrighted, just a DVD with some good surround clips and tons of the 'test' introductions - ie - the famous piano cords DTS intro, tons of Dolby Digital intros and THX intros. There is also a really cool clip that loads when you first insert that dvd that has clips of Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Willow.

Anyways, its packed in a .zip file so you'll need winrar. You'll obviously need a DVD burner and a DVD burning program. The files are straight from the Video TS folder so you don't have to do any converting. I think it was about 1.8 gigs, so it'll take some time to download. Enjoy.

Here is the link: http://www.morlioth.com/thx.html

Also, if anyone wants to help me diagnose my TV problem I posted in another thread I'd appreciate it, heres the link:

Guys,

I have it downloaded and I'll try to get it up on my FTP server tomorrow afternoon. Mine seemed to unzip fine -- however, I'll test it tomorrow. I'll also make it an ISO file.

The message I got is that it was incomplete. And that it might be only one part, of a multi part zip file.

I just tried it again with the newest ver10 of winzip, I was using ver9 before. And this is the message.

"End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not a Zip file, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part Zip file."

Build menu? What do you mean? This isn't a burning ROM, its just a straight drag n drop these files onto your DVD in a Video TS folder. You can literally unzip, drag the folder to your blank DVD, close it and your set.

I finally got it after the 8th try. Don't ask me what it was, but in the other 7 trys the zip file was always ending up being only somewhere around 138.736kb or so in size. And on the 8th try it was 1,707.593kb. Big difference! I guess that explains why some of the earlier D/L attempts did not take very long, when considering it was supposed to be something the size of a DVD even though it was zipped.

The NEW demo DVD is up on the FTP site. I called it D19-Trailer-Demo2.ISO. The contents of this DVD are very similar to D3-Trailer-Demo.ISO -- so I paired them together.

This disc has a bunch of DD, THX and DTS surround intros as well as the WOW Featurette and the Star Wars Pod Race in DD and DTS.

PM me if you need access to the FTP site to download this along with 18 other beauties.

yep. no probs. anyway i can help out the better for all ;) if anybody knows how to set up a seed, let me know and i will make your acct and uploader acct.

also, i have the tracker updating info rather slow so it can monitor other items faster, so don't be too worried if ratios and all that don't come up right away.

if you do decide to seed, please make the commitment to seed until at least a couple people have it, so it can continue :)

also, if a disc i already up there, please don't re-sead the same disc.

the more people that use it the better it will be for everyone ;)

It might be because we've used BTs before (see earlier in this thread). It took 24 to 30 hours, or longer, to download a demo DVD. With Swithey's FTP site it takes about 8. :)

It might also be that many of the posters here already have the first group of demoes.

it is a bit torrent tracker. it allows people to see what dvds are on it, who is seeding, who is leeching, etc. it is another form of peer-to-peer networking. currently i have discs 1 & 2 up, was hoping to get those seeded and d/l with a couple more seeders then i was going to put up other discs.

i would agree that switheys ftp is fast and that does make sense. with ********** the more seeders/leechers the better for all. but i can definately understand the reasoning ;)

I hate to be what may be the very unpopular voice of reason here, but I would not be posting pictures like that for that set of movies. Because George Lucas is pretty protective of his entire Star Wars franchise.

Yeah, you're probably right on that. Well, it looks like I'll probably just make it for my kids.

I'm sure my saying it was not very popular. But lets face it, all these demo DVDs are walking a very fine line, and they are probably all somewhat of a risk to be making and distributing in any form at all, as far as the movie studios go with copying anything. But it's pretty well known that getting on the wrong side of George Lucas, would not be something that anyone would want to have to deal with.

i was really hoping that the people that d/l would also seed at at a pretty good rate, but that is not happending. i have personally uploaded 17GB for the 4 demo dvds, a couple people have a ratio of 1:1 or higher but that does not seem to be the norm. this tracker may be a bust... :(

i might just start kicking and banning those with a 0 upload amount....

for the best speed, swithey is the place to go :)

Any update on those new DVD covers??

Thanks to everyone for all the great work!!

Hi guys,

Does anyone have access to the source file for the DVD cover? I am looking for the Photoshop or similar file so that I can create the cover for Demo 15 and beyond.

Thanks,

Actually, I started making some based upon the existing layout.

I wanted covers and labels for my own discs, and being a graphic designer...

I will be out of town this weekend, but should be all done with the layouts for discs 15-19 by next weekend. The first set will be for the slim covers and labels only. Regualr covers should follow shortly after. I'm even making the cover/label of disc 17 kid-freindly to match it's content.

This will be my way of saying thank you to all those that made these discs.

I will bump this thread when I have uploaded the zip to the FTP.

thanks kweezer, i will need to look into those programs.

on a side note, i will be not running the tracker much longer. swither has an excellent upload setup and the amount i am personally uploading, although i am sure very small to swither is going to get my isps attention (~20GB in 5 days...). i was hoping more people would join in and share the bandwidth, but thats cool, sorry it didn't work out as planned.

if anybody wants to upload via the tracker let me know as hosting it is not a problem since the machine it is on is on 24/7/365 anyway, but the bandwidth of seeding is going to get me noticed... :(

PM Swithey for access to his FTP Server.
While you at it, get his Paypal id and donate some.
His Server has been doing overtime, the Bandwith is outstanding.
Use a good FTP-client.
Cheers!

Did that a few days ago, still no answers. :(
Maybe I'll try the tracker tomorrow when I have time.
Will it still be online tomorrow (sat)?
thanks.

if anybody wants to use the tracker and upload from their end let me know the name you register under and i will give you uploading ability. the only reason for the registration is to monitor the amount people are sharing - ie - you don't get an email or anything so it is not you like you need to put in your real email info...

Yes. Or go and say high to the graphics guy/gal at work and ask them to print it on a colour laser.

I am having a problem playing disc 6, the dts disc. It stops playing in the middle of certain clips, the first being the dts intro. The second problem is that it won't play certain clips at all.

This happens on both the dvd player and my computer.

Any ideas?

I've used the same media as I do at work and those work fine.

I downloaded the latest firmware, but no luck.

It gives the exact same problem while playing it on the VCL player. So I thought it might be the iso itself, but if no one else has had a similar problem, I'm guessing my download got corrupt.

Will d/l again.

Try using this program for printing them, they have both a free version and a pay version.
I use the free version with no problems.

Here is some other free ones. But I have not tried either on of them, so I can't say how they work.

The covers or the labels?

You'll need something other then MS paint... On Windows XP, preview's default print assistant does an excellent job.

The covers should be printed as is then simply cut along the outer edge. They fit on a standard letter size (8.5x11") paper. An A4 sheet is too narrow, so you'll have to use a larger paper.

For the labels, use the free software that comes with the pack you purchased and align them properly on the circles, then print, peel and stick.

Many/most of the demo tracks listed are already encased within the 19 demo dvds available.

Your best bet- if you have all 19 discs- is take the tracks listed and extract them from the discs via dvd shrink and burn a new demo disc. You might have to rejig them however if they exhibit skip-itis when you play them.

Looks like it is a bit upset today. It's been flakey the past few weeks so I'm planing to reload it. I should have it back up later today.
Server has been restored. Please resume your downloads.

im confused, are all the dts demos available somewhere

im willing to trade someone all of my 118 trailers , form hd source , in exchange for any dts demos, other than 8 9 and 10 , cause i already have those , then you guys can do what you want with them, much easier this way for me as it takes forever for me to download anything ,

jesse has the #2 and 7 i think he said

Had a few pm's about these. I can post them on bob's torrent tracker if you guys use that.

I have DTS 2,7,8 and would like 9 and 10 and maybe some of those custom trailer disks that kirtis has made. Also have the THX WoW disc, not sure if you guys have mentioned that or not.

i could make you the trailer discs and the 9 and 10 dts , if you will send me the dts 2 and dts 7 ,

then you guys will have the trailers and I will have the

Dts 2,3,4,6,8,9,10

then i only like 1 and 5

they are clips.

as far as speed, it all depends on what others are uploading at and how many their are.

also, utorrent likes to have a port on your router opened up for it.

i have hit well over 500KB/s d/ling using utorrent, but there were over 100 seeders. this is where the problem with the tracker has been - too little seeders that only leech and keep their upload down, it stiffles the rest of the community. out of the ~65 people that have signed up, only about 1/3 is over .5:1 ratio and and even smaller amount that is above 1:1.

I made a torrent file for DTS disc 2, just waiting for bob to give me upload access or an email to send it to.

***WARNING***

DTS mastered this disc strangely and on some players it just outputs undecoded noise. I'll rip out the DTS logo trailer and post that by itself so people can test that first. I think the problem is that they put the audio on as PCM like a DTS-CD, rather than as a DVD DTS track. So some players get confused and don't decode it.

The tracklist-

1. Titanic Trailer
2. DTS Logo
3. Contact
4. Dragonheart
5. Daylight
6. The Mask
7. The Relic
8. Eagles - NY Minute
9. Fleetwood Mac - Silver Springs
10. Mahler - 2nd Symphony

Confirmed. The audio is encoded on the disc as LPCM, which is very unusual for DTS. I ripped out the dts trailer and it's only 34mb so people can grab that first and see if it works in their setup.

IMO the torrent client is more for visual appeal and customization. The true speed of any torrent is dependent upon the seeders upload rates. Personally I use Azureas, but have no doubt Bitlord or utorrent would give the exact same speeds. I'm just used to it and enjoy the simple interface.

Just a massive thank you from me! Missed this post a couple pages back and am downloading at a sustained 850kb/sec!! I got kicked off once at about 55% completed but a second try got me the whole file.

Yes I waited to post this thank you until after I completed the download..... :o I know, I'm horrible.

I watched it last night, very cool. Just make sure you are selecting DTS if you have a capable reciever. I watched the first set in DD accidentially until I realized you had to click to the right or left to get the DTS version.

And that compilation titled "WoW" must have taken an ungodly amount of time to put together! :)

Nope. :)

And I had to give up on Bob's tracker. I had one night of downloading with 2 seeders for 2 separate files and was able to get about 15-20% completed on each, but the next day when I started up the tracker I've been throttled back to around 3kb/sec which is not satisfactory (same seeders).

The problem was the night I started to dl the files there were NO other peers, so obviously my upload/download ratio was 0.00. I can't help it if there is no one to upload to!

Swithey's ftp is doing excellent! I'll be done the LFE #2 disk within the hour (at work now, so hopefully my queued file will start next).

Sweet, just called home and the wife informed me that the LFE #2 has completed and is now onto the "kid friendly" animated disk. My cousins will get a kick outta that one.

Oh and just wanted to make sure that this animated disk does not contain any inappropriate footage correct? I seem to remember reading through this LONG thread about a still shot of a "phallus" :) between clips. I'm thinking that was from another demo disk, but want to be sure if I don't preview this one before showing. That would be horrifyingly embarrasing...

So I downloaded the disc and it looks good. Somewhat similar of kweezr's menu structure (and I believe some/most of the tracks were on one of his discs). Encoded on the disc is the Lucasfilm WOW! demo in DD. What I'm curious about is the dts tracks for Phantom Menace. Was that track available on a dts sampler disc?

No it doesn't get recognized by my computer. I've burned other dvds with hte same exact disks and they have worked fine. Is it possible that the file is bad because dvd decrypter couldnt open it? Also when I open up the iso using isobuster it says "during mounting of the disk only a track layout could be found. No files or folders could be found."

What are people using for paper/labels when printing for standard DVD cases (like these linked here (http://www.meritline.com/dvdcasblac25.html) )? Ideas would be greatly appreciated!! :)

Do they print the right size, or do you need to resize?

I know for the actual DVD labels, Avery makes some nice label paper.

Also, which files here do you use? http://blaze.gotdns.com/demos/

I guess the standard is for the 14mm cases and slim is for the 7mm cases?

Also, I see in the standard case directory DVD case labels, that 15-19 are listed as the slim version? Is this just listed wrong, or are there no regular 15-19 labels?

Appreciate the help and all the time anyone has involved in this has spent!!

PS: I knew there was a good reason for buying this awesome color laser Xerox printer!! :D :D

The cases print perfectly! I use standard photocopy paper and used the standard-size DVD cases. No problem at all. For what it's worth, I burned every disc to a Lightscribe DVD and laser'd all the DVD labels onto them. Although it's only mono, it still looks kick-a$$. I hate labels as they can make funny drive noises if they are too unbalanced.

You are correct, 15-19 are in fact slim. I simply stretched the black bar to cover.

It's on the one that was first originally posted for D/L by masterrh as a zipped file on his web site. And that is now also available on switheys ftp, as a ISO image file under the name of "D19-Trailer-Demo2.ISO".

Is this still on the FTP site or is it gone now?

I see a file named D19-AllTrailers.iso, but not a D19-Trailer-Demo2.ISO.

Also, the label cover for D19 doesn't sound like what "masterrh" was referring to about his disc.

I've got 1-3, and 6 downloaded. Got #6 burned and watched it. This is great work guys! I got to run to Staples or somewhere today to get DVD labels and some DVD cases!!

How long does it take for you guys to burn discs? I got #6 done in 9min, didn't think that was bad at all!

Thanks!!

PS: When I get done downloading them all, I'd be glad to burn discs for others as long as you send me media with prepaid postage back to yourself. PM me for details.

I made and posted covers for 'regular' cases for discs 15-19 a few weeks ago.

I know swithey updated the ftp, last we spoke he had not updated the website with the regular covers.

Regular 15-19 cases (Right-Click, save as): http://www.pinstripecommunications.ca/various/DVD_demo/Covers_15_19.zip
Sorry guys -- I dropped the ball on that one. I have updated both the FTP and WWW sites with the new covers.

Unfortunately, I had to remove the original D19 because it was a commercial THX demo DVD. These "home made" Demo DVDs are in the gray area already and I really want to keep things as "legit" as possible so the site does not get shut down. Maybe someone will be kind enough to put it on a Torrent.

No biggie. Totally understand and agree. No biggie. I actually already had downloaded it from HIS site, just wondered what was up and difference. Didn't want to waste the time if they were the same.....

Unfortunately for the other discs it is a gray area, but we aren't doing this for profit or to steal from the major movie making companies. This is all in good fun and faith. A 3-4min clip here and there isn't going to kill them. If anything, people seeing these small clips in the DEMO discs that don't already own the movie probably will cause them to consider purchasing it! But, sometimes the "powers that be" don't care, either way.

Thanks for the FTP site again swithey, it's been pretty fast (200kb/s) and pretty stable the past few days while I've been grabbing them!

LOL Ya right! Who's kidding who... they'll just download it.

In all seriousness, publishing those DVD's is truly a testament to the creators of those movies (and all the techies behind them). We're showcasing them because they stand out among all the other Hollywood crap. I believe there is some leniency with regard to the practice of manipulating the movies for trailers. If we were selling it, well that would be a different story.

I have had a lot of fun with the stuff posted on swithey's site and would support him come hell or high water. I'll start by saying, please don't download movies illegally, rather take the cuts you need to showcase your system and be happy with it.

Those DTS demos among others are pretty cheap. In fact, if you buy a Belkin PureAV product they give you them for free.

There's a second ftp site available now too, albeit not all ISO's there _yet_

Swithey has the details if anyone wants to know the alternate site, so hopefully that'll make it easier/quicker to grab those demo's.

Thanks to everyone for the demo disks. One question I have is why most of the disks are either ALL DD or mostly DD? I thought a lot of us liked DTS if not more than at least as much as DD. Of course I am referring to original DVD's that have both a DD and DTS track.

Well I seeded #2 several times over and nobody bothered posting 9 and 10 as promised. So now I'm fairly uninterested in seeding it further or posting #7.

It is probably because most of us use DVDLab Pro to make the demo disks and it doesn't handle DTS very well.

The problem with reauthoring dts is the time code, no program I can find in our price range
can put time code back in sync after demuxing. All tracks have 1-10sec delay in audio. For
dts discs I use dvdshrink, but there's no menus.

It wasn't directly at you. At least 2 other people have 9 and/or 10 and neither of them posted it to Bob's tracker. I'll get around to posting #7 when I have spare time.

Thanks guys, as long as there is a good reason :)

Also, I downloaded one of the demo disks, it is the one titled something along the lines of 'a little of everything', but it had absolutely NO audio files saved. When I checked the files the 'audio' folder was empty, the size of the file was correct so I am unsure if there was a problem on my side. Did anyone else have any problems like this?

That is how the file structure is set up on DVDs, unless it's a DVD-A (if memory serves me correctly). There shouldn't be any issues with the download. Once you burn the files to DVD, it should play fine.

Nope, no problem. As bugman72 points out, the audio folder on a typical DVD is empty.

It looks like you downloaded demo #5, the one I created. I hope you enjoy it. If you have any issues with it or questions about it feel free PM me.

i believe that on my dvd player it automatically selects the wrong audio track, so i just hit the audio button until i get sound, it is weird, but there is audio on the dvd.

and yes, bugman is correct, all the files should be in the video folder, audio is empty, at least on video dvds.

in fact i had put this info on the tracker:
*** Just and FYI - For some reason, my dvd player automatically selects the wrong audio track on this dvd, so I have to go in and change it manually.

I don't know why mine does this but I just wanted to let you know in case when you first put it in there appears to be no audio, I can assure you it is in there. ***

If I take these disks and use DVDshrink to re-author them individually, I get files in both the video and audio folders, except for Disk 5.

Bclews, I will double check it tonight and PM you what I find, but when I tried to use DVDshrink on your disk, I had no luck, no problems on any of the other disks. though.

Dave and Ben,

To get all of the discs the quickest and easiest (assuming you have hi-speed internet), pm swithey and request his instructions to download the discs. It should take you at least 4-6 hrs per disc but at least you won't have to pay for postage or wait endlessly for someone to respond.

Dont mind paying for postage and a FEE for their effort. While I have high speed internet. By your standards in the USA, it would be faster by a carrier pigeon  Besides that I dont have a dvd burner.

Just want to make sure they all work.

Question
Is there any delay between the scenes like the slight audio drop out from break in digital signal assuming it is 5.1?

Thanks
I will even throw a shrimp on the barbie :p

yes the audio does stop between scenes and i can hear my receiver switch to a different source, but i have mine set to auto.

It's difficult to stitch together scenes without pops. I noticed on my Anthem the pops were subtle and the mode changes quite quick, whereas my Pioneer was more pronounced and slow to change modes. I think part of it has to do with how good your processor is at recognizing changes and how quick it can handle it.

The DTS discs as an example are pretty seemless, but I believe they normalize all the scenes. I think that sucks because some movies are deliberately mixed with different sonic characteristics. When you normalize it for the sake of a clean DVD something gets lost. I like the collection on swithey's site. Cut right from the source and largely unaltered.

It took some time, but I will be able to contribute also. I will have an FTP site available for use this coming Monday. I only have Disks 1,2,3,5 and 8. If someone can upload the rest for everone else, please let me know. I will create a seperate account for that. Due to bandwidth constraints, I have to impose some speed limits.

200kb/s from 9pm to 6am
50kb/s from 6am to 9pm

Max of 2 different IP connections at a time. Only one connection from the same IP address will be accepted.

Hope this helps out. Its my turn to give back to the AVS forum.

Has anyone had any problems with any of the demo discs on either of the Toshiba HD-DVD players? I tested the most recent 5 discs and they all experience a slight 1/2 second pause every 10-15 seconds or so when playing back. The same discs play just fine without any hiccups on my Oppo dvd player. So far, this is the only problem I have had with the XA-1 HD-DVD player.

Anyone else experience similar occurances?

Thanks,
Tom
I have only tried D2 and D20. D2 plays flawlessly on my toshiba HD-A1. D20 has a slight pause as you mentioned ever 10 seconds or so. I played both on my Denon DVD player and both D2 and D20 play fine, no hiccups. Anyone know why this is? I used the same media for both D2 and D20 and burned the exact same way using Nero.
