Kevin12586 09-21-06, 07:41 PM Can anyone help me out with this? I would like to get chapter 11 of Mission to Mars, but I would prefer not to rent it if possible. Is there anyone that can rip this section of the movie for me?
If so, please PM me.
Thanks
JimmyJoe 09-21-06, 11:30 PM I have only tried D2 and D20. D2 plays flawlessly on my toshiba HD-A1. D20 has a slight pause as you mentioned ever 10 seconds or so. I played both on my Denon DVD player and both D2 and D20 play fine, no hiccups. Anyone know why this is? I used the same media for both D2 and D20 and burned the exact same way using Nero.
OK, I tried D17 and had the same hiccup problem on my HD-A1. I tried 8X DVD-R and 4X DVD+R. Works great on my denon but hiccups on my HD-A1. What a bummer because these are great discs and I was hoping to not have to try to create my own. Maybe this is just an issue with the HD-A1. I wonder if the 2nd genration Toshiba HD-DVD players are going to have this problem.
hi everyone! I'm new here and would like to know how to PM anyone who has these demos? please any help? thanks
DonnieW 09-23-06, 07:49 AM PM swithey
In fact, look through the thread and get a sense of what they're all about. I think swithey has a public link that allows you to get the list of DVD's and their contents.
BradenNapier 09-23-06, 11:57 AM Hey Guys,
I would like to grab these demo discs if possible.
DonnieW 09-23-06, 08:34 PM Hey Guys,
I would like to grab these demo discs if possible.
Of course it's possible, how else do you think everyone here got them! Better get going, there's 20 discs which add up to a couple weeks worth of downloads!!!
ConradC 09-23-06, 10:36 PM Ok, I'm opening up the FTP site now instead of Monday. I have already PM'd a few people. PM me for access. Here are the rules:
Speed is maxed at 200kb/s from 9pm to 6am Mon-Fri
Speed is maxed at 50kb/s from 6am to 9pm Mon-Fri
Speed is maxed at 200kb/s all day Saturday and Sunday
Only 2 people are allowed to be connected at the same time. Only one IP address is allowed per connection.
Once again, I would like to thank all those who put these together and also for those that are sharing, especially swithey whom which I downloaded from.
PS: I'm still downloading a few disks from swithey so not all disks are available yet. I will put them up as soon as I get them. Enjoy!

lvnloud 09-29-06, 11:53 AM Why do some of the DTS Demo's have the letter "E" behind the numbers? Like DTS Demo 6e? Are they in a format that will play on USA DVD players?
here is a pic of what I'm talking about... (http://www.thx-trailer.com/3/Demo-DVDs/Demo-DVD's/DTS-Demo-DVD-6E-Vorderseite.jpg)
lovebohn 09-29-06, 05:01 PM By looking at the picture i would think that was a special run just for Sears.
lvnloud 09-29-06, 06:32 PM I found a 5 & 5e.. the only difference I see is that 5e doesn't have Gladiator. Strange.

Could someone please PM me the ftp access information? I would love to get my hands on some of these discs. Is Swithey still around?
Yes he probably is, but you should PM him if you want access to his FTP.
Because it's really not right for someone other than him to do that.

ConradC 10-02-06, 07:12 PM I'll add the remaining disks in a day or two. So the site will have all the disks which total 20. (I'm not including the v1.0 disks which would make it 22 disks, I believe)

All thanks go to swithey! I promised him I would help spread the demos if I could get access to the demo disks from his site. Although it took awhile (almost 6 months), I want to keep my promise.
Thanks fishermen for the disks. :) :)
If any members from Australia I have discs 17, 18, 19 ,20. I also have the thx wow disc.
On the topic of this disc. I have noticed that the surround envelopment is almost non existant in the majority of scenes that should have some. Also sub didnt kick in at times when it should. I have the origional wow on laserdisc and although in prologic is more engaging and accurate. I was expecting the 5.1 mix to be a big improvement. Does anyone know the cause of the anomolies on this disc?? Is it worth buying a origional off ebay???? Who knows or call tell if it is a origional either?
Thanks
Ben
I'm also in Australia, I curently have DTS disc 6 downloading.
Quite happy to burn and post to other Aussies, PM me your details if you're interested. I will list more discs a I download them.
Thanks Swithey for hosting these.
Harry.
kirtis_mcleskey 10-05-06, 03:20 PM yea the dts discs are awesome.
I have dts discs 3,4,6,8,9, and 10
Kevin12586 10-06-06, 08:48 AM yea the dts discs are awesome.
I have dts discs 3,4,6,8,9, and 10
How can I download these DTS disks? I only see one DTS disk listed on swithey's site.
I now have disc 17 and 20 as well. One of them is the Star wars disc, the other is LFE demos in dolby digital.
I also have a disc that has all the dolby, dts and THX trailers, it has the SW ep1 pod race in DD and DTS and some other clips. I'm not sure if this is known as the 'WOW' disc or if its something else, I found it on the web ages ago.
Aussies PM me if you want copies.
wow, suprisingly the tracker is still being used :) tracker down
if anybody that has good upload speed has some demo discs that are not on there, let me know and i will give you upload priviledges.
AfRoMaN787 10-12-06, 12:14 PM Kweezer I sent you a pm about creating a DTS disk
AfRoMaN787 10-14-06, 10:31 PM Hey guys I'm looking to make a Dts demo. I was hoping to get some input from you guys as to what scenes you think would make for a good demo (without using the same scenes Kweezer used) using the following dvds:
1. Almost Famous
2. American Beauty
3. Apollo 13
4. The Bone Collector
5. The Butterfly Effect
6. Catch Me if You Can
7. Collateral
8. Crash

53. X2: X-Men United

AfRoMaN787 10-16-06, 07:54 AM No one has any input?
Kevin12586 10-16-06, 08:50 AM Maybe you should narrow your list a little, 54 DVDs are a lot to ask for the best scenes, especially scenes that haven't been used on the other demo disks out there.
victor-eyd 10-16-06, 11:55 AM I used 30-35 tracks (ie 30-35 dvds) per demo dvd I created and it maxed out a single-layer dvd (dual layer's still too expensive right now). And that was with dolby digital. What you're asking for is dts, which uses more storage space. So basically the only way to fit all of your tracks is either to go dual layer or use 2 discs.
And because copying dts tracks tends to result in sync issues, probably your cheapest (and workable) authoring program is dvdshrink.

swithey 10-16-06, 01:00 PM Swithey FTP Site Update
New Movie Trailer DVDs
- Desc: 100% movie trailers – great for use as “Coming Attractions” in your HT
- File Names: T1-MovieTrailers.iso, T2-MovieTrailers.iso, T3-MovieTrailers.iso
- Author: Kirtis_Mcleskey
- NOTE: The Summary doc has not been updated yet. Once I get the breakdown from Kirtis, I'll make the necessary changes
New Covers and Labels
- Pinstripe made covers and labels for all the new Trailer DVDs
- Lightsribe Labels – TJEli (Eli) converted the DVD labels so they would print properly on a Lightscribe DVD burner
D19 Retirement
- D19 has been renamed to T1-MovieTrailers.iso.
- The next Demo DVD will become D19 :)
Please be sure and thank all listed above for their hard work. Well done guys!!
victor-eyd 10-16-06, 04:10 PM YESS! I made the top 19! :-)
Victor
the crane 10-16-06, 07:19 PM I have the original 1-8 discs if anyone needs a copy. I am not sure what Swithey has on the FTP site.
I would be happy to make copies and trade them for the remaining discs I do not have. PM me if anyone is interested in a trade.

I should have phrased the sentence better. I am not necessarily looking to use a track from every movie. I just wanted some input as to what everyone thinks are good scenes to use from that list of movies.
3 DTS Demo discs have been added to the tracker: tracker down
if you haven't yet, sign up and enjoy the power of sharing torrents :) (don't use your real email address - it would never be used)
enjoy and share :)
thetooth 10-17-06, 11:54 PM I am getting from FTP... and then slowly seeding out. Right now I am seeding Disc 16.
Get it while its hot!!! and please keep the seed alive.

the crane 10-20-06, 03:25 PM What is the benefit of using the torrent as opposed to just the FTP download? I have been trying to download disc 20 for about 6 hours now and am half way done.
swithey 10-20-06, 03:43 PM What is the benefit of using the torrent as opposed to just the FTP download? I have been trying to download disc 20 for about 6 hours now and am half way done.
Some people prefer the Torrents but I have found them to be slower than the FTP site. However, there are items on Bob's Torrent site (http://bob4432.sytes.net:6583) that are not available on FTP site. It might be worth a quick look.
VorlonFog 10-20-06, 04:31 PM I have disks 1, 2, and 3 and half of disk 4 ( Thanks, Steve!! :D )
I'm committed to seeding the torrents for them for several weeks, at least.
swithey 10-20-06, 04:53 PM If anyone has the "Official" DTS Discs #1, #5 and/or #7 and wants to contribute them to the torrent (to complete the set of 10 discs), please visit bobs tracker site (http://bob4432.sytes.net:6583/ ) and sign up. You will need to email him to request upload privileges.
I know you are out there. Where's the love? ;)
etcarroll 10-20-06, 05:52 PM Swithey -
Is there a prob. with your site, I can't connect?
Trying to re-download #2 DTS disc as my 1st download was corrupt.
thetooth 10-20-06, 06:33 PM The #2 DTS disc dl'd fine for me, but will not play any audio. Says it is encoded in hz/bits 96/54 or something to that effect. It may be a bad rip.
the crane 10-20-06, 08:54 PM Server seems to be down as I was forcefully terminated from the server. I am only about 2 hours away from completing the download. I have only been trying for the last 3 days now.
The success level of Bob's tracker seems to be on the rise.
Of course, the more who participate the better it gets :)

I thought maybe it was me as I haven't hooked in since I rebuilt my rig, but perhaps something is temporarily wrong with the ftp?
Thanks for all you do, swithey!

Cakehomme 10-22-06, 01:26 PM Can someone pm me the ftp site details?
Thanks
just a quick note to all -
i will be undergoing surgery tomorrow and the doc says i will be in the hospital for ~4-6days (if all goes well) and probably be gone an extra week when i get home. i did connect up my main machine to my ht/40"LCD in the bedroom so i do have a nice recovery suite here at home :D, so once i get my bearings and can type and make sense i will post back.
i understand there are numerous religions on these boards, so if you all could just keep me in your thoughts, however they may be, i would appreciate it. :)
so if anybody pms me and i don't get back to you, that is the reason....uuugghhh
Brad Horstkotte 10-23-06, 12:21 PM Bob, we'll talk to you soon when you're back recovering!

thanks for all the well wishes :)
ended up coming through pretty good. surgery ended up taking 6 1/2 hrs (was scheduled for a 4hr surgery) w/ a 2hr recovery. i was in neuro icu for tuesday after surgery until wed night @ ~6PM and then transferred over to the regular neurology floor. i ended up with a ~5-6" incision on my spine and the doc removed a tumor and something it was attached too - wich they are not too sure what it is yet - have to wait for more pathology, but not cancerous which was relief since it turned out to be the one that could have most likely been cancerous. he is a bit concerned pathology not knowing what it is at the moment so i am definately on a mri every 3mos schedule for probably at least the next year or until it is determined what it is.
finally got released yesterday and just basically slept the remainder as i didn't get much sleep in the hospital and rested for most of today between moving around as tolerated.
all in all i am doing much better than anticipated and seem to be getting better pretty quick. i am on just a bit more meds than i normally take so i am not too drugged up which is nice, they basically left all my meds alone and had me double a couple of the pain meds. in the hospital they had me add-on morphine too basically whenever i wanted which was nice as the pain was 10++. at some times it was to the point that i couldn't move, but that severity is gone at least for now and i am sitting at or around 8-10.
i will add more in tomorrow or the next day, i just wanted to drop by and let you all know i made it through and am not doing too bad :) again thanks for the thoughts :)
bob
VorlonFog 10-31-06, 08:35 AM Bob:
Great news and I'm glad to hear you're recovering quickly.
(Sorry to hear about the 10++ pain, though.)
Best wishes!

My dls using bob4432 tracker have stopped. mazlaz tracker still seems to be functioning.
i had to reboot the machine earlier thanks to updates, but it should all be going now :)
swithey 11-01-06, 10:30 AM Bob,
Glad everything went well! Welcome back :)
ScooterZ 11-01-06, 11:53 AM These Demo disks sound wonderful, but I am a little hesitant to try to the download. Please PM me the instructions, and hopefully it won't be too difficult to figure out how to do it. Thanks in advance for all of your hard work and dedication of time.
Bob,
Glad everything went well! Welcome back :)
thanks, glad to be back and out of bed :)
walking around a bit in the fresh air and taking time to "stop and smell the roses" has been nice.
the couple of days i had to wait on pathology really made me think, and man, what stressful thinking that was, especially in the neuro icu - there were some of the most f*cked up people you could imagine there, one person's door had a sign on it that said something to the effect of "right side, no bones". unfortunately i had to hear those with extreme neurological injuries moan and cry out in despair. i was told these people had such severe injuries they didn't even know they were doing it and were in comas and heavily medicated, but troubling nonetheless. it was the stuff nightmares are made out of...i was put on that floor strictly out of precaution and i really don't think i needed to be there, but man, what an experience, makes you not take whatever you have for granted, regardless of what it is. after those couple days on that floor no matter what i had those people had it worse, even if my tumor came back cancerous i was still better off than those in that icu. quite humbling
ScooterZ - d/l utorrent, read a bit about how to set it up, sign up on the tracker and have your way with it. that is probably the easiest way to start to get them. the tracker is starting to pick up in speed from some extremely generous people :) i am going to be turning my seeding machine back on here and give another 60-70KB/s up :)
has anybody else had any issues with the tracker? i changed the menu stuff around a bit but other than that it should all be the same.
Chris_006 11-01-06, 09:16 PM Quick question.
I have Disc #2 (LFE) and my Jurassic Park demo comes out with terrible syncing problems, almost a full second off.
What # is the Jurassic Park file? Is anyone else experiencing this? I want to try and burn it separately, but without going through 10+ discs guessing, it would be nice to find out for sure.
bbgundrum 11-01-06, 09:25 PM Hey Chris,
I have the same problem with the Jurassic Park scene too, so it must be how the DVD was authored.
Brennan
Chris_006 11-01-06, 09:26 PM It seems to be happening towards the end of the entire disc...
Any ideas?
ScooterZ 11-02-06, 01:41 PM I downloaded utorrent last night and started with DVD 1. It was going between 20 - 30 kb/s and had an ETA of 2 1/2 days. I gave it 8 hours and it only downloaded 15% and the ETA went up to over 3 days so I stopped. Am I doing anything wrong? Can I speed it up somehow? Lastly, this tree thread, whereas someone makes copied and mails them to the next on the list, is it still active since that would work better.

ScooterZ - your d/l is entirely based on who is uploading and at what speed. if dvd1 only has 1 or 2 seeders and they are only going at 4KB/s each, then it will take a long time, but say it had 5-8 seeders each going at 50-200KB/s and you can see how this would benefit you.
personally i make a port available for uTorrent in my router to let it go in and out and have done this for years with no issues.
possibly try the port issue and try a dvd that is showing quite a few people moving data on them from the tracker and you should get some good speed. a couple of days ago i was able to max out my 8Mb/s connection d/ling a couple, but again, there were a lot of people d/l and seeding the dvd i was d/l and seeding myself.
dnddwilson 11-04-06, 05:11 AM Bob and everyone else involved, Thanks for all your hard work keeping this going.
Anyone, is there a way to get these from FTP, or even posting the discs to usenet? For me, newsgroups seem to be the way to go. Or, would we rather not post them for the whole world to download. Any opinions truly welcome :)
spideytech 11-06-06, 12:13 PM Been lurking for a while and have tried to start doing my part by helping seed best I can on the torrents. Thanks to all who have helped with these discs and to those who have created them and especially swithey for the FTP site and Bob for the torrent site. Awesome work and much thanks.
Is there a cover label and DVD label for disc 20 (all Star Wars)?
David Scott 11-06-06, 01:21 PM In the HD-DVD software section there's a thread on HD-DVD authoring to stardard blank dvd's. The process is rather invloved, but works. I see some people posting they've made HD-DVD demo discs. It would be pretty cool to see one put up on the FTP site for those of us who have HD-DVD players to show off...

James Mos 11-06-06, 10:31 PM As I manage to download the demo disks from the Bob's tracker site, I'm leaving them up so that I seed them for others. Soon enough I'll have my dsl as well and I'm going to make that my dedicated net connection for sharing so it'll have a much better upstream than my comcast cable connection. Thanks to everyone who has made these....

Thanks

Yeah.
That it's not a good idea to run the risk of irritating the RIAA, with the way they go after people.

the crane 11-09-06, 01:13 PM Anyone having any issues running these on Tosh HD-DVD Players? My 1-8 disc work flawlessly, but the rest I have downloaded seem to "freeze" every 5-10 seconds. They work fine on my computer, but not on my A1.
Thought I had found this out earlier (wrong), but what software is everyone using to make your own demos? It seems that most programs are no longer available because of copyright laws. I have a lot of concert dvds and just want to make my own demos. Thanks.

I'm getting the same freezes as you. They worked fine on my Pioneer standard def player, but with the Toshiba they sputter every few seconds. My guess is the way they're authored, but who knows?

To rip the clips many of us use DVDShrink (free download). I believe it will also allow you to make a compilation DVD of those clips. But I think the most popular software, here, for making the demoes is DVDLab Pro. It's not free, but I seem to recall that it does have a 30-day trial period.
Gather your clips before you download DVDLab. That will give you a couple of weeks to learn how to use it, and a couple of weeks to make your demo.

how has the tracker been acting - is it processing stuff quick enough for you guys? does it ever get really slow?
this is of course not counting the db errors.
the reason i ask is because i ran a log analyzer and was amazed at the amount of hits going to it and being it is db backed i wasn't sure if i needed to up a couple of hdds in the rig to 10k scsi.
to me it always pops right up, just want to make sure you are getting the same results :)
it appears (knock on wood) that since i have had the defrag program work only every 72hrs instead of all the time, whenever it needed to, the sql errors have stopped.
please give me feedback on your user experience ;)
bob
Brad Horstkotte 11-14-06, 12:55 PM I have had the tracker time out a couple times (from uTorrent, not from a web browser), but mostly seems fine. Oh, except my web browser times out 100% of the time on my inbox (I asked a question a while back about how to add new torrents to your tracker, and you replied, but I've never been able to access your reply).
sparrow_69 11-14-06, 02:17 PM Has anyone created an HD demo disc? Either hd-dvd or wmv9?

nelson4u 11-15-06, 03:58 AM The #2 DTS disc dl'd fine for me, but will not play any audio. Says it is encoded in hz/bits 96/54 or something to that effect. It may be a bad rip.
I have this same problem with the #2 DTS disc. The video is fine but there is no audio. All I get is random "popping" sounds and no Audio.
Has anyone else had any problems with this disc ?
kirtis_mcleskey 11-15-06, 06:51 PM hey just curious , im downloading someting using utorrent, and i have 608 mb of wasted failed hash checks, what does this mean

If it's a local disk, it probably means that your disk is going bad.
The program reads what it wrote to the disk after it gets it and calculates the hash of the the block. If that doesn't match the hash value embedded in the block, it marks it as bad and asks for it again.

I haven't had any problems with disc 2.
fisherman 11-21-06, 11:29 AM Yes, and I manually set my receiver to DTS and it worked.
I haven't had any problems with disc 2.

stidrvr 11-23-06, 03:13 AM Is there a way to change the tracking from a demo that I got to the bobs tracker or will I have to re dload the Bobs version?
VorlonFog 11-23-06, 12:10 PM Doesn't matter whose tracker or whose torrent file, so long as the file(s) being downloaded have the same checksums and content, you'll be okay. If you download a significantly different torrent file for the same ISO image file, your Bit Torrent program should re-scan whatever file fragments you've already downloaded, then continue downloading from there. For example, the Azureus program will allow you to define multiple trackers for a single torrent. :)
James Mos 11-25-06, 04:53 AM Anyone able to seed dts disk 3?
bucky8687 11-25-06, 10:56 AM This feels like a stupid question, but I can't find a clear answer... I've downloaded a couple of these now, and finally bought a DVD burner this weekend - does it matter what type of blank DVD's I use -- DVD-R, DVD+R, RW, etc.?

That depends on the DVD player you'll be using to play them back - most newer ones will read all types, but there are some players that are picky and will have better results with one type (or brand) vs. another - check the manual, and then experiment. I used DVD-R's (because they were cheap at the time), and they worked fine for me.
My pupil :) has very kindly passed a couple of the discs onto me.
I love the idea of duping them for another providing the pyramid
system works.
Would be only too happy to oblige, we seek the early ones.

sparrowho 11-29-06, 12:57 PM This appears to be the latest list I could find in this thread. I have downloaded a few of the discs from swithey (Disc 1, Disc 5, Disc 9v2) and will ship copies of these out but after reading 57 pages in this thread (ok I skimmed a few) I am a bit unclear how this is to be done. Do I PM AVS members from the list or just wait for them to PM me? Hard to believe that we currently only have 59 members involved in this with so many posts on the subject. I will make myself #60 and await clear direction to proceed.

sparrowho 12-01-06, 10:30 AM I was still unclear how to meet my obligation to send out discs so sent PM to everyone on the list that appeared to be still in need today. I will wait a few days for replies, then send out copies of the discs I have, and then update the list (I suspect this is a good idea so we can be clear who is still in need). If I do not get replies to the PM I will assume that the user on the list is no longer in need of discs but do not feel comfortable deleting the name from the list so will only provide a edited version of the list to indicate that I did try. Below is my edited version of the list to indicate who I sent PM to. I will update this with replies after a few days. Hopefully my shotgun approach will flush out someone still in need.
If anyone else cares to contact me to update the status of discs needed I would be happy to include those edits as well.

James Mos 12-01-06, 12:15 PM Thank you whoever is seeding the DTS3 disk....much appreciated
neomits 12-02-06, 07:38 PM Been lurking for a while and have tried to start doing my part by helping seed best I can on the torrents. Thanks to all who have helped with these discs and to those who have created them and especially swithey for the FTP site and Bob for the torrent site. Awesome work and much thanks.
Is there a cover label and DVD label for disc 20 (all Star Wars)?
Anyone have an answer to this? Is there a label and cover for disc 20?
victor-eyd 12-02-06, 08:33 PM I think they went as far as 18, but I could be wrong...

Pinstripe 12-05-06, 05:09 PM Anyone have an answer to this? Is there a label and cover for disc 20?
I made one last week - hey, no one told me a new disc was added! I'll provide a link shortly.
sparrowho 12-06-06, 06:39 AM I never received a pm regarding this list. I've removed myself also.
hdtvluvr is correct. My BAD. I tried to be careful but sent out two identical PMs to one user on the list and none at all to hdtvluvr. Thankfully hdtvluvr read the thread and caught my error.
Today I edited the list again to include the status of the replies I got back so far. It would be appreciated if the members that are satisfied with demos they have, and no longer are in need, if they would also do as hdtvluvr and BP2000 did and remove themselves from the list as well. I will not add or remove anyone from the list as I do not feel comfortable doing so (too much power). I will, however endeavor to edit the list with any more replies I get via PM.
Hofefully my mailers and blank media will arrive within the week and I can begin sending out copies to those that have replied to me via PM that they are still in need.

Pinstripe 12-07-06, 08:53 AM Hehe.
I'll work on the cover/label. Is the content list final?
rajdude 12-07-06, 10:17 AM I am also interested in these demo disks. Is there a qick readme type thing somewhere which is current?
I see two things going on:
1. DVDs being mailed (pyramid style)
2. Downloads via torrents
So what is the latest way to get my hands on these disks?
I do have a DVD burner and willing to post copies to others if required. Also I have a server online all the time, so I could also host these ISOs, if the need be.
There's also an FTP site kindly provided by swithey, and you can PM him for login info.
Pinstripe 12-07-06, 03:17 PM I have uploaded to Swithey ftp the individual covers/labels for disc 20 and the upcoming disc 21 from kweezr.

I came across this thread late in the game as well and attempting to sort out the best method to participate. I looked for a list and then added my name to it but suspect I used the * character incorrectly the more I ponder it. Normally that character is a wild card that includes all matches. Thus far I have downloaded a few demos and through brute force established a list of users that have been in the Q for awhile that were still in need. My plan is to snail mail them copies as soon as my blank covers arrive, which I needed to protect the DVD in shipping. I have also tried to make sense from the list and will post updates to it in this thread based upon the replies I get back from PMs.
Perhaps one of the more sage members will straighten me out on the use of the * character so I follow the correct format. I suspect what caused me to be confused by this is I saw quite a few members on the list that had that * character next to the IN and OUT yet were still on the list. What's the story do we remain on the list forever or should we post a edited list after removing our names when we have completed all our INs and OUTS.
Look back at page 55 of this thread and you will see a copy of the list I found, including my edits. Add your name to the bottom and we will both wait for someone to come forth and tell us the correct way we should have done it. At least then you are in the Q and details can be fixed later. PM me after you have edited the list and it is likely that I will include you in my shipping list. Best choice would be to get access to the FTP site already up and download them from it. It would be good to have another FTP server running for this project so we do not overwhelm the one.

Personally, I think going with #3. Which one of the FTP offerings that you did not mention, is the best way to get them.
BritInVA 12-07-06, 05:42 PM Can I recomend that kweezr updates the very first post of this thread with the details of how to get these Demo DVDs (SMail, Torrent, FTP) on the very first post on this thread - that way we can avoid the regular 'how do I get these' posts.
Mark
I have a compilation I've made from the Platinum Series Lord of the Rings movies. It isn't polished like some of the ones I have downloaded here--no menus or transitions between scenes. I don't even know how to make it possible to skip back to a scene (once you're past it..you're past it..ha). It's all uncompressed of course and in DTS-es. I didn't put the scenes in chronological order, but scenes from the movies are grouped mostly together. The Mount Doom scene isn't in there..just personal a choice I made to leave out such a key component of the plot.
Anyway, I don't know how this formally works, but I would be willing to upload this to Bob's site if someone would PM me with instructions on how. Hopefully some others are interested in my 'Demo of the Rings' :) If some can't download and I need to send out discs, I could do probably do that too if someone tells me how to know where to send them.
victor-eyd 12-11-06, 09:38 PM #21
First of all, the demo clips are awesome- in particular the Take the Lead clip- my sub can't handle it (reason to buy a bigger sub). Great job Keith!
Warning: Numerous scenes are pretty adult in both language and topic- except for the Cars clips, I really cannot recommend viewing this disc unless you are of a mature age (and can handle sex and gore also)

You mean WARNING  ?
Next time, when I see that note on your dvd I'm gonna avoid it! :p
I found one (on the main page), was there a 2nd or 3rd (as the word "tracks" would imply, duh!) :D ?

Kweezr did it again -- and a wonderful job Keith! I will stress that there is a lot of adult (rated R for violence and/or gore) material on this disc -- so be careful NOT to view this the first time with the kids in the room.
Here is a chapter breakdown:
War of the Worlds ch5
Silent Hill
M:I:III
Unleashed
Final Destination 2
Cars
Resident Evil Apocalypse
I, Robot
The Matador
Final Destination 3
The Haunting
Panic Room
Take the Lead
Sky Captain
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
V for Vendetta
Superman Returns
Running Scared
Poseidon
The Island

As always, PM me if you need access to the site.
fisherman 12-14-06, 06:25 PM First thanks for Disc 21 - it's great. Next, I'm having problems with opening labels 15 - 20. All I get is the little red x in a box. Also I get a "block script and active x" message but I get that on all the labels and the others I can open. Anyone know how I can open 15 - 20 labels. Thanks
Fisherman
Pinstripe 12-14-06, 09:28 PM On a PC?
They are simple (high resolution) jpg files. What are you using to open them? I have never heard of an active x error while opening an image file before.
fisherman 12-14-06, 10:26 PM Yes on a desktop PC. The labels, opening and not opening, are being opened by Windows IE7; using Win XPsp2
Pinstripe 12-15-06, 11:23 AM Open them with 'Windows image and fax viewer', not ie.
Right click on the saved jpg, select open with, and choose the above. Now click the always use box. Say ok.

v1rtu0s1ty 12-19-06, 01:02 PM Can anyone point me to a list of verified MD5 hash checksums for the ISO demos? I would like to verify my FTP downloads before burning them. Thanks.
Why do you need to verify the MD5 checksums? Are you worried burning it and hacking your player? From my understanding, it's quite different from downloading operating system such as linux distros/windoze where in a some of the binaries are rootkit'd.
Download, burn and have fun!!!!! :D
EDIT: And if you really want to make sure what you've downloaded, mount the iso file and you can browse it first
Linux:
mount -o loop -t iso9660 /path/demo1-something.iso /mnt/iso
Freebsd:
vnconfig /dev/vn0c /path/demo1-something.iso
mount -t cd9660 /dev/vn0c /cdrom
Windows:

swithey 12-19-06, 04:07 PM Can anyone point me to a list of verified MD5 hash checksums for the ISO demos? I would like to verify my FTP downloads before burning them. Thanks.
The MD5 hashes do not exist but I have an idea for you. You could mount the ISO image using a free tool called DAEMON Tools (http://www2.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/download.php?mode=ViewCategory&catid=5). This fools the PC into thinking the actual DVD is in the drive. You can then use any DVD player to play the disc and test it out (no burning is necessary).
EDIT: Looks like v1rtu0s1ty beat me to the punch!
im using the torrents, since i dont own a dvd burner, so the only way i can pay it forward is by seeding for a looong time, but the problem is i cant even get a full disk. everytime i get about half way done (using torrents) the seeders just dissapear. so for the last few months all i have downloaded is like 3-4 disc but none are complete. Is there anyother way to get some of these demo disk?

i know $30 isnt much to you but im only 17. i worked my a$$ for the past year and a half off doing odd jobs around the neighborhood, just to get my hdtv, and a ps3 for bluray films.
i'm also trying to save as much as possible for college since i graduate this year. i've never been the type of child to ask for anything for my b-day or x-mas, because i've always understood that my family isnt really financially well off, but maybe this year i guess i can ask for a burner.
this might be a stupid question, but a dvd burner can go into any type of pc right? the one im using is a hand me down 1.2 ghz pentium.
thx

It should work fine. Just be sure to put the DVD on the secondary IDE channel. If you put it on the Primary as a slave to your boot Hard Drive, it will slow your HD down considerably.
Here is a How to install a DVD or CD burner (http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-6603_7-5118840-1.html) guide I found that might help.
sparrowho 12-20-06, 03:55 PM To be honest every demo I have downloaded has burned just fine, if the FTP download completes. I wasn't aware that MD5 checksums were only a issue on executables only. I reasoned that if a few bits of the HT demos got corrupted during the download then the demo might still play but have minor problems. If this is not the case then I guess it is a non-issue for me. I hadn't even bothered to check what the MD5 checksums were on my downloads since I had nothing to compare them to. I am still curious about this. Anyone out there want to try and compare MF5 checksums with me? If I get enough matches to conclude there is not a problem then I would be willing to post the values in case someone else asks this question.

Darknyt 12-21-06, 02:18 AM Is anyone able to place the DTS 3 disk on the ftp servers? I've been trying to get the full file via torrent for a while now but no one ever has the full file....
I've had DTS Demo 3 up for quite a while now, on and off again (depending on when my wife pauses all my torrents and forgets to restart them).
hi everyone
well i finally made it through all 57 pages of this thread and downloaded disk 1 off of swithey's ftp site after several days and just finished watching it. I must say thank you to all involved in making these disks and hosting. I am very much hooked now and will be downloading the remaining disks and keeping them as reference for my system.
I have several questions and not sure if i'm rehashing stuff that has been gone over since the beginning of this thread so excuse me and point me to the appropriate previous post if i am.
Are all the demo's ripped bit for bit? no compression of the video or audio? was any normalization applied to the audio portion (if thats possible with dts and dolby)? I know all dvds do not play at the same volume so was wondering how that would affect the sound cuz i was ready with my remote in hand to turn up or down each track but noticed i didnt have to (surprisingly).
With demo 1, what was the emphasis on? music or visuals? i've never been big into surround sound music discs preferring audio cd's in two channel but the u2 and eagles clips where great acoustically. u2 - one is my favorite song by the band so to say i was thrilled by the concert clip is an understatement. the eagles and eric clapton clip is very rich and spatial; the guitars sound so real and striking. I play acoustic guitar so i know what one sounds like. i am assuming this is why they where included in the demo (not for their video)? I'm not an Eagles fan but appreciate their skills. I've noticed in the past years that their dts audio cd alsways tops audiophiles lists of top cds and was wondering how the dvd's audio compares. is it one and the same or was the dvd re-engineered? sorry if i am hijacking this thread but i was very thrilled by the demo and it makes me want to go out and buy the source dvd's (or at least rent them).
Again to all involved, excellent job and am looking forward to the other demos.
fst96se 12-22-06, 01:06 AM Well, I downloaded the Ipswitch program today, and started Downloading DTS Demo 3. I am a total newbie at this stuff, so I have to thank Swithey for his help.
I had a problem though, when I got home from work, it showed the download was complete, but there was an error box up, asking me to skip, retry, or cancel. I think I clicked retry, and lost the download. Is this a common thing? No big deal really, I don't even have a DVD to burn it to yet. Will buy some of those tommorrow. But any direction you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated.
Can you guys explain what ISO mounting is? Is this a way I can view the download on my computer without burning it to DVD? If so, I need to download the program Daemon Tools or something to do that?
Thanks again guys!

I think Ipswitch is the software vendor name. Maybe you meant wsftp.

Most ftp servers are configured to disconnect clients if they have been idle for like 3 minutes. When I said idle, I mean, there was no traffic moving back and forth. TCP SYN, TCP SYN-ACK, TCP ACK or commonly known as tcp 3 way handshake. However, with ftp, it also does ftp data(port 20) and control(port 21). Ooops, that's too much!!! :D
So yeah, it just got disconnected. You will have to redownload again. Your wsftp client software should be able to support resume downloads. Try downloading the same file again! Don't delete the file that got downloaded though.
Can you guys explain what ISO mounting is? Is this a way I can view the download on my computer without burning it to DVD? If so, I need to download the program Daemon Tools or something to do that?
BAM, you hit the nail right on the head!!!
Thanks again guys!
You're welcome!!!

Darknyt 12-25-06, 05:18 PM Interesting to see that the trailer discs have made their way onto EBAY from a seller named jamesonrobin. Item #120068676922 (I guess we can't post links to EBAY from here). You can tell they are the ones from this site especially easy by one of his pictures that has the cover art for the trailer dvds from the ftp.
Not sure who this is offering them, but from the few feedback they've gotten, they pretty much only sell digital copies of stuff.
And it looks like one buyer got burned by him after buying several of the commerical DTS demo's for $45 - I'm guessing that they were probably downloaded off the torrents here and he just packaged them with printed cases.

Lets just hope this is not something that will cause the MPAA to notice them and get upset with these. And also make them decide to shut the creation and distribution of all them down.
Not to mention it really sucks that this guy is selling something that was intended to be free. And is profiting off of the work of the people that actually made them up and intended for them to be free.
BobBart 12-26-06, 05:32 AM Thanks to the generosity of Geordon, I have a copy of Demo #21 that I can send to someone who would like to copy it and send it to someone else who needs it. Just PM me your info.

I'll be setting D9 up on a different server soon.

captainjcook 12-26-06, 04:45 PM So as I asked before --How can I get them
The Ebay item is NOT our discs, they are original DTS discs released by DTS.
You maybe better check again, but this time use item # 120068676922 instead of the number that was given in the post above.
Yes he is selling copies of the original DTS discs in another auction. But in the one listed above he is also selling copies of what looks to be the Demo trailer discs T1, T2, T3, and it also looks like maybe discs T4 and T5 as well.
BobBart 12-27-06, 07:45 AM Member lvbrian has taken me up on my offer to send him disk #21. Anyone looking for that disk should contact him.
Pinstripe 12-27-06, 07:53 AM ^
Whoa, we have a problem, indeed.
The member who made trailer discs 1-3 is the same one who has made 3 more. He asked me to make covers for them, but I have not gotten around to it (holidays and all). I asked if he is the one selling the discs, as no one else would know the contents of the next trailer discs other then him and I.
I am waiting for his response to my PM.
So as I asked before --How can I get them

Since T1, T2, T3, T4, and T5 are available via FTP, therefore would it not be possible for others to know the contents of T4 and T5 as well? I downloaded them from swithey's FTP site but haven't got as far as the cover art process yet so didn't burn them and look at them yet. Thus I can't be certain if the contents are the same as the ones listed on ebay. I would agree that selling these demos on ebay or anywhere else is a vile and objectionable thing to do and hope we locate the id of the ebay seller and blacklist them. I checked the ebay auction in question and the seller jamesonrobin listed the location as marmaduke, AR. Could be a spoof location but perhaps not. I did a Google search and found some additional disturbing information, however will not post it here.
Pinstripe PM me and I will share this research with you.

hey guys i'm new to this forum. I wanted to have the demo disk so that i can test my new system that i bought last week...hope you can help me! thanks
i can probably use the ftp site co'z i got a decent connection.
thanks swithey for the fast response! ur great man.

Swithey, sounds like you're the man for being able to get some demos, could you please let me know how to do so? Thanks!!
thanks tim!
My pleasure. Server is gone now so the ftp no longer works. Hope those of you who needed em had a chance to grab em.
Happy New Year!
Tim
I checked the ebay auction in question and the seller jamesonrobin listed the location as marmaduke, AR. Could be a spoof location but perhaps not.
My skills are a bit rusty, but if you do an "Ask this seller a question", isn't the seller's email listed?
Perhaps the mods could check that email against the registered users here and take whatever action they deem appropriate, if any.
Seems to me that the material on the "un-official" demo disks would be against ebay policy as well.
Tim
auburnu008 01-03-07, 11:04 PM I am interested in all of the demos! I will be happy to send them to whoever once I get them. Please pm me and let me know what I need to do. Thansk guys!
dan webster 01-03-07, 11:30 PM I am also interested in the demos. I am not sure how to get them though.
sparrowho 01-03-07, 11:33 PM Nope, ebay changed all that quite some time back. Now you must send a message through the ebay service, if the auction has not closed and you were not the winning bidder. Even if you had that info you still can't match it to a user id on a forum as, unless a forum member has released their e-mail address into the public, it is also protected. One person can have several different forum ids on different sites and also different e-mail accounts so you can not just assume they are different people. I suspect many members here went with a second choice for a member id as the first choice had already been taken by someone else.
ebay changed the policy to prevent buyers and sellers from putting togther off-site deals on items listed through ebay as well as fix privacy issues.
No reason to involve the mods or discuss this ebay issue any longer as the auction has been removed, problem solved.
My skills are a bit rusty, but if you do an "Ask this seller a question", isn't the seller's email listed?

Darknyt 01-05-07, 01:09 PM Actually the listing of the demo discs was not cancelled by eBay if I am looking at it right, I believe it just ended with no bids.
However it appears he is selling the (likely d/l off the ftp) DTS demo discs again to another unsuspecting buyer.
eBay auction #120071055780.
Not a whole lot can be done about it I suppose though.
EDIT - Looks like the auction was delisted by eBay before it ended.

Those have not been downloaded. They are real DTS discs.
You mean they LOOK real or they ARE real? How can you be sure of that? Note that the one person he's sold these to was FURIOUS afterwards. (I have an email out to this buyer to see exactly what the problem was - I suspect he realized he got a bunch of copies) Also note that a search of that auction number I listed above now turns up NOTHING after I reported it. Appears to me that it was canceled by eBay.
He is selling each DTS disc in an identical keep case when some of them didn't even originally come in those kinds of cases.
DTS 9 came in a slimmer cardboard case and all the original DTS 3, 4, and 6 discs that I've seen came in a CD case.
Happy to be wrong, but it looks like an easy print job to me.

Though I am far from an authoritative voice on this, I will be happy to chime in with my 2 cents.
1. bitorrent is actually less effective than the direct ftp which you can request access to by sending a pm to swithey. As it is his ftp, he should be the one to give it out. I personally enjoy Azureus as a bitorrent client, though others find it a little too bloated.
2. Swithey has made available a collection of summaries and pics of the demo dvd's HERE (http://blaze.gotdns.com/demos/)
3. Assuming you have access to a high speed internet connection you can download these demo discs (approx 3-4.35gb each) for free, though I'm sure swithey would appreciate donations to support his generous donation of bandwidth. Note that while you may paypal money to individuals to pay for the cost of the dvd blanks, mailing, etc., you *should* refrain from actually paying for the content of these dvds as this would likely be leaving the grey area we have all been enjoying (despite the unscrupulous activities of certain eBay sellers).
Hope you can find a way to enjoy these, they are all tremendous and all involved deserve a well-earned Thank You!
Edited to misspell "bitorrent" so the filter would allow it

I'll second the recommendation to go the FTP route. Swithey will give you complete details how to do this when he gives you access.
I downloaded about a half dozen of these via bitorrent using Azureas (I haven't tried any other bitorrent clients), and probably due to low numbers of seeders/peers, they all took many hours to complete (usually at least a couple nights or more worth of downloading for each).
But then I tried the FTP, and was getting download speeds 10 or 20 times faster so I could download a couple of them overnight.

Darknyt has it correct from my point of view. I have subscribed to this thread and noted that the misspell trick didn't make it past the censors in the e-mail notice. Interesting that it it works in the above post.
I will add a fourth option to Darknyt's list above, which is to send money to AVS Science Forum, to support the forum. This forum allowed us to find these great demos in the first place. Note swithey supports this fourth option and has advise me of such.
Darknyt 01-10-07, 01:04 AM EBAY UPDATE:
The DTS discs were, in fact, complete fakes. I received an email reply from the buyer who purchased the DTS discs in question from jamesonrobin:
"the discs are copies, bad copies of the originals. 2 of the discs dont even work...the others are compressed to about 48 percent and thus they look and sound like ****.
I already reported this clown to EBAY and now to the FBI for piracy and using the US mail to commit a felony. He is about to get his ass handed to him by the authorities, I do not recomend buying from this guy...he is a slimy little *******."
I suppose that answers that.
does anybody from here still use the tracker? if not please let me know.
I am going to have the script that runs this site purge users that have not connected for 45 days or longer. This is just to keep the user database up-to-date. Do not take offense if your username gets deleted, just go ahead and re-sign up.

- Author: Cobbpa
- NOTE: There are no menus on this disc because menus always mess with the DTS audio sync. This is a great disc if you are a LOTR fan. Great job Cobbpa!
New Covers and Labels
- The label and cover is up on the site (thanks Pinstripe)
- I also updated the Summary Doc and have changed formatting a little to help make it a little shorter. You will probably need to open this with MS Word to keep all the formatting

Doom scenes aren't there..I like to try to keep key points in the plot hidden, so I left that out. Besides those couple of personal preferences, I hope everyone likes it. Personally, I like the early scenes in the caves / tomb the best. This is my first offering and I would be interested in putting together something else a while down the road (sorry though Dark, I'm not a Harry Potter fan.. ;) ) so anyone willing to post what they did / didn't like or find useful, feel free--criticisms welcome! Enjoy
edit: I just noticed the cover lists Dolby Digital; it's actually all in DTS-es. I don't know how much anyone else cares or how hard it is to change; just noting. If it is going to be changed, it may be worth waiting to have someone verify that the scenes are correctly titled..ifff it's worth changing--it doesn't matter too terribly much to me.
nelsondog 01-12-07, 12:46 PM I'm interested in demo discs 1 through 6 if someone would be kind enough to buzz them off for me. I have a DVD buner and would be happy to burn a few sets for Canadian members.
Thanks!
Ah ha! I figured out how to dl & burn my own using our iMac! Thanks anyway.
Pinstripe 01-13-07, 10:18 AM cobbpa, I'll update the cover/label during the week.
Thanks cobbpa, being a LOTR fan i will enjoy this one. Thanks swithey and Pinstripe for the ftp and the covers. And everyone else who have contributed to these demos they are all awesome.
Darknyt 01-14-07, 12:34 AM Just had to chime in again after watching a few scenes and compliment you on the great job with this LOTR disc.
Video quality is fantastic - this looks as good as DVD gets on my system!
JSwarce 01-15-07, 06:25 PM Pinstripe:
Will you be doing any covers for D19-D21 to fit standard cases? Swithey only has the slim covers on the FTP site. Much appreciated!
John
BrutalBodyShots 01-16-07, 10:59 PM Wow, this is one long thread! I've been reading it for about a half hour now and can't figure out how/where exactly to download these demo DVDs. Could someone be so kind as to PM me and point me in the right direction? Thank you very much.
disbelief 01-16-07, 11:23 PM Late in the game, anyone PM me the links or instructions for all demos to date? Thanks muchos
auburnu008 01-17-07, 03:34 PM Is swithey's ftp down for anyone else? I am having troble connecting.
Darknyt 01-17-07, 03:51 PM See my post #1723 above on this page for information on how to get into the ftp and the summary docs.

Not sure about right this second but I was EXTREMELY impressed with it yesterday and the day before. The speed was phenominal (best I've ever had for files this size) and the ftp was solid as a rock (NEVER disconnected me for no good reason - in fact I assumed it would after a few hours of being idle since I downloaded during the night but it was still running the next day).
MAJOR props for the FTP.
jfwilson 01-17-07, 04:00 PM This is awesome, thanks swithey! I just got a new PJ and need to show this thing off! This is a huge help!
disbelief 01-17-07, 08:13 PM FTP was down for the last 10 hours or so, couldn't connect.
As for the torrent, anyone able to seed the DTS demo discs?
swithey 01-17-07, 09:27 PM FTP was down for the last 10 hours or so, couldn't connect.
Server has been restored. It decided to have a minor hick-up. I quick reboot fixed the issue. Feel free to resume your downloading :D

Awesome! You rock. I really appreciate you allowing everyone to use this. So far I have downloaded 18 of them. I only have a few more to go! Thanks again! :)
matthess 01-18-07, 02:57 PM Quite a bit late to this thread....... in fact, I just made the leap from hovering around the board to actually registering.......
I've got a couple hundred blank dvd's, and can send these out to pretty much anyone who wants any of these. Will only send one at a time though.
I have no printer, or blank cases, so these won't end up looking all pretty and such.
Though I am extremely interested in getting these to look professional - so anyone who could help me out with that, you can get as many disc's as you want from me :)
PM me if you're interested
-Matt
matthess 01-18-07, 02:59 PM Also, I just got the BluRay version of the 2007 DTS Demo disc...... anyone have any ideas on how I could .iso it?

I'll see if I have time to make 'regular' covers.
matthess, I'm sure someone will chime in shortly.
bugman72 01-19-07, 10:30 AM Am I to assume that the LOTR #19 Demo (if you choose the purist route) should replace the previously labeled #19 (which I believe was one of the trailer demo DVDs)? It's not that big of a deal, I just wanted to know whether I should relabel my previous #19 to something else in order to keep the demo sequence correct.
BTW, very nice covers Pinstripe.
***edit***
What is the LOTR #19 label named on Swithey's site? I found the SW label and both covers, but can't find the disc label? The D19 label that is on the site has a Jan 18th date on it, but is the old one. Did the old one accidentally get reloaded instead?
Pinstripe 01-19-07, 10:53 AM Swithey forgot to load the LOTR label on his ftp. I pm'ed him about it.
The labels/covers above are only for those that want a special cover for these two discs. The original covers - the tech theme ones - are still there to keep the consistency between covers.
I'm just giving you guys a choice.
