What do you mean by "extract"? There shouldn't be anything to extract there. Just simply open with Nero (or some other burning utility) and burn onto a DVD.
I got the D21 downloaded, but haven't burned it yet. On the other hand, I burned D2 and only a handful of scenes will play - others just don't play after I click on them in the main menu. Is this a known bug? It may have been described somewhere earlier in the thread.
Pete7874, not everyone burns these images to DVD. I've got a couple of terrabytes of storage on my media server. I extract all the files to a folder using an ISO program so that I can access it whenever I want through Vista MCE. Using those types of programs, an ISO file works a bit like a ZIP file. If you can't extract all the files that way it will be highly unlikely that you will be able to burn it to a DVD successfully.
Use the free Core FTP program I mentioned above!
I had all those same kind of problems you are having with another FTP program that I was also using for years before with no problems either, until I started D/L these demo disks. I don't know what it is, but I had all that stuff happen to me also. Either with files being either too big and yet still trying to D/L even more, or with them saying they were done but they ended up being too small when downloading these demo DVD's, until I switched over to using Core FTP. And yet I can still use my other FTP program at other places with no problems at all... But for the demo disks the only thing that worked for me was using Core FTP. There are probably other FTP programs that work also, but once I hit on the first one that worked for me without problems, I stopped looking for any others.
I'll definitely give that one a try. It seems that alot of FTP programs have issues with large file sizes or perhaps it could be related to the commands it uses to communicate with the server. Thanks for the suggestion.
Mike4AU 06-18-07, 11:02 AM Many thanks to those who have taken the time to make the Demo DVD’s (Clarence, Kweezr, bclews, victor-eyd, et al.). And thanks to Swithey for giving me the download info and having the DVD’s on his FTP site.
I told Swithey that I would “give back” to this community by burning some DVD’s for those who do not have the means to download and burn DVD’s (and I will mail to them). I have burned disks 1, 4, 5, 6, 10v2, 13, 15 and 22.
I will burn and mail up to 2 disks each for the first 7 folks who send me a PM asking for them. The first responder will get up to 3 disks. If interested, send me a PM. I will add that I don’t want anyone’s money for doing this.
BTW, the disks will be burned on DVD +R. I have some burned on DVD -R, but either I got a bad batch of -R’s or my burner doesn’t like that format (I get coasters about 50% of the time).
I will add that I will be terribly busy for the next 2-3 weeks and will not be able to burn the DVD’s quickly. But hang in there with me.
Thanks again for allowing me to download and burn these DVD’s! They are great!
i truly appreciate what time and effort you guys take to make these disc, and so do a number of others here...
been trying to download these files as well, using utorrent... er... im stoopid when it comes to torrents, can anyone help me? pm if possible. i have the details pmed to me thanks to swithey, but dont know entirely how to use that knowledge...
if anyone would be willing to burn me copies please let me know. its impossible to achieve a decent download at 54mbps... =( im using wifi in an apartment, aint the best setup...
thank you in advance.
Pete7874 06-18-07, 03:25 PM its impossible to achieve a decent download at 54mbps... =( im using wifi in an apartment, aint the best setup...
FYI, 54 Mbps is the max speed between your computer and the router/access point. The download speed is the speed between the router and your service provider's POP and is probably much much lower.
thus my dilemna. i was hoping that someone can help me with it. im willing to pay for a decent copy...
im willing to pay for a decent copy...
Big Bucks? :D jk ;)
hahaha! i wish man! well, for the right price right?
so please, if anyones seriously out there who can give a colleague a hand, id be most appreciative of it.
and no, its not a four figure bonus. =)

Is anyone still seeding these as Torrents?
I have the last 5 on my server and would be happy to make them available that way.
Mobius_570 06-20-07, 07:57 AM I have 3 downloaded from Swithey and as soon as I get some more of these I'll add them to one of my servers for others. I would like to get a quarter of them before I start posting them. I'll report back when they are added to my server.
The D21 file is definitely corrupt. Even when using the Core FTP program I get the same result after having downloaded it twice.
Pinstripe 06-21-07, 08:31 PM Plays fine for me.
TREVLAN 06-21-07, 09:23 PM I'm interested.
May I get a PM please
swithey 06-21-07, 09:54 PM The D21 file is definitely corrupt. Even when using the Core FTP program I get the same result after having downloaded it twice.
Can anyone else confirm/deny this? I'll try and download D21 myself and test from my end.
Hi Steve,
I downloaded it last week and have had no problems playing it.
Plays fine for me.
You were able to burn D21 and play every single chapter without fail?? I must have downloaded that file six or seven times using various methods and have yet to achieve a non-corrupt file. I've downloaded several other files which all worked just fine.
Hi Steve,
I downloaded it last week and have had no problems playing it.
Guys, cancel that. I downloaded it again last night, tried to extract the files to a folder and it gave me "Extract failed" half way though. However, this time, when I tried to play the files, they all worked.
I am at a complete loss here. Sorry for the trouble.
Pete7874 06-22-07, 03:51 PM Can anyone else confirm/deny this? I'll try and download D21 myself and test from my end.
Well, I can't say whether it's corrupt because I was able to burn the disc with Nero without any warnings. Downloaded file size seems to be correct. However, when I try to play the disc, half the chapters don't play. I might as well have an issue with my DVD burner. Who knows.
I'm interested.
May I get a PM please
Probably not. You may, however, READ THE THREAD and follow the instructions in it.

LOL. drin, you're a man on a mission ;)
I just get irritated at people who don't even take the time to read a thread and just assume everyone will run to help them out. Last week someone even posted the instructions IN CAPS 10 times in a row. Think the newbie read it? Not a chance...
Yes, my mission is to be a pain in the rear. How'm I doing? <grin>

Is anyone still seeding these as Torrents?
I have the last 5 on my server and would be happy to make them available that way.
Anyone?
I could also make them available by FTP again, but i think swithey's connection is faster (mine is max. 1500KB/s upload). However, since last time i replaced my router so that may make a difference. Anyone willing to try?
oh my fault, I guess I should look through 60 some pages and find it... :(
sorry I'm new here if you didn't know.
Seeing as how it was 5 pages ago, I don't think it's asking too much to read that far back to at least get a feel for what's happening in the thread. If you can't do that much your theater construction won't go very well.
Welcome to the forum, but being new doesn't excuse not taking the time to investigate.

I use WS_FTP, it doesn't seem to be dropping packets and reconnects upon connection loss. What did you use to extract the file? Just burn the iso...
Oh and...
To get these discs, send a private message (also known as a PM) to swithey to get access to the ftp site where the discs are stored.

If any of you use Media Center, there is a program called MagicISO which will allow you to extract the audio_ts and video_ts files and folders from an ISO file into a folder of your choice. This way you can create a media server with all your DVDs without having to swap disks all the time.

However, when I try to play the disc, half the chapters don't play. I might as well have an issue with my DVD burner. Who knows.
Just as an update, I decided to mount the image for disc 21 using a virtual drive (through Daemon Tools) and fired it up in WinDVD. The application crashes when trying to open some of the scenes/chapters, like the "Island" or "Matador". So it's not an issue with my DVD burner. Something's up with the image itself.
tycho55 06-25-07, 01:10 AM Hey folks!
I'm looking for the ever elusive original SDDS trailer that was shown in theaters long, long ago -- the one with the spinning pyramid and "SDDS" in large letters. (Here's a sample: history.sandiego.edu/GEN/recording/pix/sdds3.GIF )
Has anyone seen or have something like that? I've checked out Steve's Disc 3 but the material is different.
Thanks again to Steve and all his hard work! If anyone can help me out I'd be eternally grateful, as I haven't seen this trailer in over a decade. Thank you!
Pinstripe 06-25-07, 08:05 AM Disc 23? When did that happen? Good thing today is a holiday for me.
BobBart 06-25-07, 01:05 PM Mike was kind enough to send me a copy of demo #22 since I only have dialup and I am offering in return to send a few copies to someone else who isn't able to download them. I ask that you be just as kind and offer to send someone else a copy.
Bob

Have you tried kweezr's disc 4? There's one (i believe) is an sdds trailer there. It might be what you're looking for
victor thanks again for the dvds, right now im trying to learn how to make copies for other people as well.
amazing copies mate, and im sure a number of people enjoy these materials.
i will try to find others who may be able to send me copies too, so i can make em.
but first have to learn how to make em... =)

Thanx, Bill
If you are asking the copyrighted DTS demo disks.
Then I don't think you really want to mess around making copies of them and/or offering to be distributing them in any way.
You can always check fleabay for them, it seems there is at times some people that are taking the risk of selling illegal copies of them.
I don't want to copy them, I want to buy them. Where can they be legally purchased?
Bill :) :) :) :) :) :)
mmccking 06-25-07, 07:44 PM victor-eyd,
I love the content on Disc 23, but it plays back in stereo for me. Anybody have this problem?
I have the same issue with some clips playing in Stereo. It's like the coding for the Dolby to THX didn't take. The best clip for true audio and what the clip was originally recorded in is the 2nd clip. The sound on that clip is awesome. Maybe the stereo bit is a copy/audio protection thing?
Bill
victor-eyd,
I love the content on Disc 23, but it plays back in stereo for me. Anybody have this problem?
which parts specifically?
tycho55 06-26-07, 12:35 AM Have you tried kweezr's disc 4? There's one (i believe) is an sdds trailer there. It might be what you're looking forHey Victor,
Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it out and no luck -- still the same intro as on Disc 3.
I guess no one has the SDDS trailer shown in theaters. Too bad, it was uber-cool... :(
bpratt2 06-26-07, 01:25 AM To get these discs, send a private message (also known as a PM) to swithey to get access to the ftp site where the discs are stored.
Or if you're in Australia / New Zealand then PM me, as you might find it quicker from my 'mirror' site. :)
victor-eyd,

Having the same problem. All content shows op in PowerDVD as being DD 2.0, 192 KBps.
Love the content of the disc however... :) Thanks very much victor-eyd!!
mmccking 06-26-07, 02:53 AM which parts specifically?
The whole disk plays back in stereo. I tried it in two different DVD players.
victor-eyd 06-26-07, 11:55 AM Guys, I didn't author #23. Someone named Shaggy did this.
Victor
shaggy29 06-26-07, 02:23 PM OK guys - I am the dipstick that made disk 23. I had tested it and thought it was ok and asked swithey to check it. Guess it was not - sorry for getting hopes up. However - all is not lost. I have all of the tracks and they definitely are not in stereo but I guess somehow I screwed up when I made the final copy. Anyone care to give me a PM that wants to give me some "education" on making a good copy of this? I have been taking for awhile and all I wanted to do was give back!
Thanks,
Shaggy
victor-eyd 06-26-07, 04:04 PM shaggy,
pm me
Victor
shaggy29 06-26-07, 04:54 PM Victor - you have mail!!
I don't want to copy them, I want to buy them. Where can they be legally purchased?
I don't think DTS offers them for sale to the general public. You can't even buy them direct from DTS through their online store, yet if you are someone who is in the industry you can get them sent to you. Most of them that are out there, it seems were/are from being distributed at trade shows and such. So the options appear to be if someone wants them. Go to a bunch of trade shows and hope to get a few for free, buy them off a seller on fleabay or D/L them through torrents.
shaggy29 06-26-07, 06:51 PM Sorry guys but I am temporarily going to pull demo 23. I will get it remastered and reuploaded to the site real soon. Thanks again Victor for all of your help.
Don't worry I have all of the clips in 5.1 and all I have to do is re-do the assembly which Victor is going to help me with. Have some patience and all will be good again LOL
Victor, you're a good man!
Question about the LFE Demo 2 disc.
The scene listings jump up and down a little bit does this happen to anyone else? I am using a DLP if that matters and I know it's not the rainbow effect. The disc plays flawlessly though.
F355FTS 06-28-07, 12:33 PM Can anyone help me get a copy of any of the disc's?
I have zero. Id be more then happy to paypal you a few bucks for your trouble. Or just one i can copy. My connection is slower then a snail to download any large content.

victor-eyd 06-30-07, 08:05 PM Shaggy29 has sent me the demo dvd and the clips needed to rebuild it. One clip I'm tossing out is the 7 seasons as its in 2ch and more eye candy than anything else. I might throw a couple more demo clips to fill out the boxes but here's page 1 for starters

I'm currently downloading and it's only about 1/3 of my speed.. What's dependent on download speeds?
For one thing, it's probably because of whatever his outgoing speed is limited to by his ISP.
Yes a lot of people have fast D/L (incoming) speeds. But often times they are limited by their ISP quite a bit more on the U/L (outgoing) speed, and the U/L speeds are nowhere near as fast as the D/L.
swithey 07-01-07, 10:15 AM I'm currently downloading and it's only about 1/3 of my speed.. What's dependent on download speeds? Is this like a P2P?
The max speed you will get is 2.5meg down (which is still pretty darn fast compared to most torrents). I must limit the speed per connection to allow for more people to download a the same time. Figure a download time of about 6-8 hours per DVD.
Guys, anybody working on another All-DTS Demo disc?

Are you sure you're not limiting to 250 kBps? My downloads always remain steady at that speed and never go any faster. I have a 10MB connection to the Internet and usually download around 1.3Mbps.

caesar1 07-03-07, 12:20 PM General question.
Do all these demo DVDs have the sound as it would originally appear on the DVDs -- or are they compressed in any way?
Just curious as to whether these are exactly what you would hear on the original discs?

The goal for the discs was to keep the audio and video quality untouched from the original DVD. D19 (All LOTR) is the only demo disc mentioned to have some video compression.
victor-eyd 07-03-07, 04:34 PM Not necessarily....
Unfortunately, some of the discs (especially mine) have some compression one way or another. The simple fact is when you try to jam as many clips onto a single dvd, sooner or later on dvdshrink it will show a bit of compression.
Also, there are other demo discs that used a different authoring program which may use more or less compression than the ones blcews, kweezr, or I author with (dvdlab).
Whether you can tell which has more compression on a clip vs its original is something only your ears can tell you.
Victor

General question to the group: How hot are you running your sub setup (SPL)? The bass on my setup is pretty poor when running the movie U-571 - depth charge scene - sub being torpedoed! Other movies I run sound fine (nemo, monsters inc, star wars). Is U-571 a poor bass movie?

There are other sites that have what swithey has on his site, and some might be faster than others.
I've got them available for Australian/New Zealand users, so as to give us over here a possibly faster source for those disks.

I run the sub 5 dBs hotter. So it reads about 79 dBs on the SPL meter (while all other speakers read 75 dBs).
U571 is not a phenomenal bass movie -- but you should feel/hear some shaking in the depth charge scene when you see the explosions coming out of the water.
Right after the germans dump the depth charges into the water. There's about 3 or 4 explosions above the surface.
The torpedo scene you should "feel" the torpedos speed by you. Its the movement of the torpedos there -- more than any explosions.

I tried this link from post 1850-something to get a listing of the DVDs to see which I would like to get. Unfortunately, the link doesn't seem to work for me.
Is there any other place/link that is keeping the 'directory' of all the DVD demos created so far, so someone could look through it and see which we may want to get?
I don't think I want all of them...I have 7 of the first 8, and actually only use 3. My guess is that I may end up having several, but typically only using a couple... I just want to make sure that I am using "the best" couple (i.e. those that have clips which demo my stuff better than others, or movies that I like seeing over and over).
Any help would be appreciated...
Thanks,

handcuff 07-09-07, 11:40 AM Ok. Never mind. I just got access, and a working link was in that for all of the DVDs. Thanks!
-Scott
I tried this link from post 1850-something to get a listing of the DVDs to see which I would like to get. Unfortunately, the link doesn't seem to work for me.
Is there any other place/link that is keeping the 'directory' of all the DVD demos created so far, so someone could look through it and see which we may want to get?

This is slightly different from the Word document on the FTP site. Has disc 23 been changed from the original?
victor-eyd 07-11-07, 11:14 PM Yes.
I added some more tracks and remove one track to fill space evenly on the menu. Also, all of the clips when re-authored initially played back in dolby 2.0. That was fixed in the revision above.
Victor
Great work guys... Thanks!!
shaggy29 07-12-07, 09:36 AM What victor is trying to say is that he fixed my F ups.

Downloaded #23 today and played for wife and I tonite. I must say this demo got the "WAF" (wife approval factor) for my HT. She likes to watch movies but always maintained (like most wives) that a HT in surround sound did not make any difference to her. Thanks guys, this demo changed her mind. :) :) :) :) :) :)

I'll start it off, should be getting the dsics next week. Will send 3 people one copy of each disc, then those 3 send a copy to 3 and so on.
I don't want to get flooded with pm's or emails, so add you name below and I will contact you for your shipping info. 1st come , 1st served!
This process will probably take just as long as downloading :p , but will be much less frustrating. Tried DLing, but it was just toooo slow! I participated in one of these trees a while back on another forum and it worked out quite nicely.
To get these discs, send a private message (also known as a PM) to swithey to get access to the ftp site where the discs are stored.
I am interested in the discs and then I will send them on. I will send you a PM
Thanks
Excellent Job On #23!!! Keep It Up! :)
victor-eyd 07-14-07, 12:26 PM Problem w/#23
I rushed this to swithey without the usual quality controls in place, ie bclews and kweezr, so it sucks to find out that the menu selections are too far left, resulting in some cutoff on the images.
I am fixing this and when finished, swithey will have the updated version.

thetooth 07-14-07, 05:15 PM Hi, let me first say thanks for all of the killer demo discs. I had made one a few years back and it took me a couple weeks to make.(so I know how much work goes into them. I think I spent a total of 60+ hours on it)
I do have a question about the current #23. When put into my DVD player everything works as expected(off to the left a little), but I notice that when I put it into my PC it is showing as 4x3 and not 16x9. I wonder if you could look at the aspect flags when you rework it.
Other than that, Thanks!!! Looks Great.

MrPorterhouse 07-19-07, 12:28 AM Hi, let me first say thanks for all of the killer demo discs.
I read 4x3 on nearly every clip with PowerDVD.
I also played the DVD on my PS3 upconverted, and the clips are 4x3. The actual movie clips are mostly pilarboxed and letterboxed, and that looks pretty bad. Its certainly not up to the standard that has been raised by so many fantastic demo discs. I mostly appreciate the Demo Discs for the audio anyway, so it doesn't bother me all that much, but for a video purist, it would.
victor-eyd 07-19-07, 03:31 AM I am unsure as why all of the tracks selected, when played on a pc, show 4x3. But its more than, it looks like a display that cannot handle anamorphic 4x3, much like feeding HD signal into a sdtv- everything looks squished. I too am using PowerDVD on my pc so its weird that all of the other demo dvds I've created, this is the first that ended up this way.
I'll see if there was an option on dvdlab that wasn't checked.
Victor
victor-eyd 07-19-07, 04:23 AM okay, I just tested another version #23 and these are my findings:
If you are experiencing aspect issues with #23, the problem stems from the fact that this is a "hard" anamorphic encoding. I don't know why but the only way the menu and clips will display properly is if (a) your dvd player is set to 16:9 anamorphic and (b) your display device is a native 16:9. I have to check with newer 4:3 tvs that can process anamorphic (like Hd signals) automatically but if you're device(s) aren't set to one or both of these points, the resulting image will be a squished 4x3 image. Take Dolby "Stomp" for instance- if you watch it on a dvd player and set the player's display device for 4:3 pan and scan or letterbox, the image would come out as full screen. This is incorrect. The correct image is actually a full 16:9 image. The same goes for every other track on #23.
You actually have to treat this demo dvd like a hd signal- if you feed it into anything else but a native 16:9 monitor or a monitor that can process 16:9, the image will be a squished 4x3.
In short, what I'm trying to say is that your dvd player cannot alter the aspect ratio. It will be the display device, ie projector, tv, or monitor that will correctly set it up. And if you are still wondering why it looks funny on a 16:9 tv or projector, its almost likely that the aspect setting on the tv/pj is not correctly set for native 16:9.
I guess this is dvdlab's way of forcing me to upgrade from all of my legacy tv sets LOL.
I still don't know why I was able to get the correct 16:9 display for the menus on powerdvd but all of the clips are in squished 4:3

I can't speak for anyone else, but I use DVD decrypter to rip the disc and then DVDlab Pro to author the scenes into a new dvd...Lossless in the sense that the video and audio isn't being re-encoded...but of course it was lossy to begin with on the original DVD...ie MPEG and AC3/DTS are all lossy formats
mpgxsvcd 08-01-07, 09:29 AM I tried Nero and Video Vegas DVD maker last night. None of them would allow me to cut out a specific scene from a DVD without re-encoding it. Also neither of those programs had an option to do DTS. How do you select just a portion of a DVD without re-encoding it? Is there a program that can losslessly cut .vob files?
Can DVD decrypter rip only a portion or a chapter from a DVD? I haven’t played with that program very much. I really would like to create my own Demo DVD but I am having trouble authoring the DVD losslessly(well at least lossless to what is on the actual DVD).
Use 'DVD Shrink' and set compression to "None".

you can use DVD decrypter to rip the entire disc...then load the files into DVD shrink. From there you choose re-author and select the main movie title along with the audio track you want...then you can portions of the main movie and save that...make sure compression is set to none. do this for all the clips you want. then use something like DVDlabPro etc to author the new dvd.
I've simplified the process a bit, but you should be able to get the general idea.

mpgxsvcd 08-01-07, 04:39 PM Thank you very much kind Sirs. I plan on doing a “best of every one of the Demo discs” I have seen so far and I will include some of my own content that was not originally on DVD.
Would you all rather see more content with the original audio but highly compressed video or less content but the original audio and video? Basically, are you more interested in Audio and more content or both Audio and Video in its original state with less content?
victor-eyd 08-01-07, 05:20 PM Good luck on the best of demo. I considered it myself (since I have every copy) but ultimately there too many new movies that keep coming out that warrant me from taking older stuff and forming a new one. Take this holiday season, for example- transformers, sp3, potc3, shrek3- they and many others will be available along with the stuff that just came out now and voila! a new demo dvd (hint, hint)

kona1611 08-01-07, 05:51 PM Hello all,
Just found this thread today. My oh my! Oh the demos! Oh the humanity! I have access to the ftp site now to download the demo discs..even with a fast cable connection it will take many, many days to downlod all 23 or so discs. So my question is, does anyone have a COMPLETE set of all 23 discs (I guess discs 9 and 10 are on Version 2).. so I dunno if that makes 25 discs.. anyway, would anyone be willing to send me a complete set of all the DVD demo discs? I would gladly pay for the media, trouble-time, and shipping.
Thanks, Chuckie

The entire point of this forum is in search of the ultimate audio/video experience. I don't think anyone here is interested in compression of any kind.

No compression should be there at all. And if you copy from the demo DVDs, some are already compressed (see posts above indicating that from the makers).
A demo disc should be the ultimate quality in all respects -- no corners cut -- even if less content.
MrPorterhouse 08-01-07, 08:47 PM I vote for less content with untouched audio and video.
I agree. I always prefer the absolute best in audio and video. Besides, I typically use demos for a specific purpose for a short time. I'm also a big fan of ripping shorter scenes to demo an effect rather than some of the long scenes that can drag on.
More shorter scenes. Untouched video. Untouched audio.

I received latest rev of disc #23 today (thanks Victor and Shaggy) and plan to have it up on the FTP site by noon on FRIDAY. I'm taking tomorrow off to do some work on the HT :)
mpgxsvcd 08-01-07, 11:03 PM Some people use these discs as audio demo's only so they are not as concerned with the video. However, the consensus on this forum is that everything should be as pristine as possible. That is what I will try to achieve.
I want to string as many short to the point clips together as possible. I will try to include the newer stuff that is not on any of the discs yet.
mpgxsvcd 08-01-07, 11:57 PM Let's say you could pick 25 separate clips to put on a single DVD what DVD's would you choose them from?
Here is my list so far, in order of audio importance, then video quality, and finally sheer entertainment! This is the list I will start with for my DVD and I will go from there unless you can convince me otherwise.
I put the disc number next to the title for the scenes that I do not have original discs for. Do any of these discs (1, 4, 5, or 21) contain compressed tracks?
1. The Incredibles
2. Saving Private Ryan – Disc 5
3. Finding Nemo
4. Master and Commander
5. O Brother, Where Art Thou – Disc 1
6. Flight of the Phoenix
7. Predator
8. Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
9. Star Wars Pod Race – Disc 5
10. Hulk
11. War of the Worlds
12. House of Flying Daggers
13. Cars
14. Blue Crush – Disc 4
15. Take the Lead
16. The Lion King
17. The Fifth Element
18. Black Hawk Down
19. 300
20. Gladiator
21. I Robot
22. Ice Age
23. Freddy vs. Jason – Disc 4
24. Final Destination 2 – Disc 21
25. Final Destination 3 – Disc 21
victor-eyd 08-02-07, 12:49 AM Here's something to help you along:
Take Flags of our Father's clip (which I used in 22 and re-used in 23). That clip lasts about one minute and took about 32mb
Tomorrow Never Dies clip ( from #10) is 4min long and take 152mb
Vendetta take almost 3min and uses about 100mb
So take the average of 1min of demo clip = 35-40mb of space

Well I think part of the fun is not knowing what is on the disc until you pop it in. So I am not going to list exactly what I am going to put in it. However, I will say that I have quite a few documentaries that actually were mastered with DTS sound tracks. The video in them is always stunning and in most cases the audio is as well!
Some of the documentaries are purely for the visual entertainment because the audio is 2.0. However, I think you all will enjoy them since they will be new to you. I guarantee you haven’t seen everyone of the clips I will put on there!
mpgxsvcd 08-03-07, 01:35 AM Once I have all of my lossless rips of the originals, how do I put them together in an iso format? I have Nero and Sony Video Vegas DVD 6. Should I use either of those programs? I want to make sure that everything stays lossless to the original DVD.
mpgxsvcd 08-03-07, 10:03 AM Ok I have almost all of my clips ripped to my hard drive. However, I am having trouble generating the DVD.
It looks like my version of Sony’s video vegas can not handle 2:35 aspect ratio or DTS tracks! It tries to recompress both of those things. Is Nero capable of creating lossless DTS and 2:35 DVDs? Would that be a better choice? Is there any free program I can create this disc with?

Authoring DTS tracks ends up in an audio sync issue. You might ping victor-eyd and/or kweezr as both have done extensive authoring. The tool of choice is DVD Lab Pro (http://www.mediachance.com/dvdlab/). It has a little bit of a learning curve but once you know it, you can design just about anything. They have a un-crippled 30 day trial you can try out for free.
victor-eyd 08-03-07, 11:37 AM You cannot use most/if not all dvd authroing programs for dts without enabling a audio sync problem.
The only successful way that has been found to work is simply using dvdshrink and making a menuless demo where the clips run one after the other. The only way to know what clip is next is to have a handy guide on hand.
As to lossless compression, some authoring programs have more compression issues than others. As stated, dvdlab works great (bclews, kweezr, and I can attest to that) but only if you intend to use dd tracks.

Can you elaborate on this some more? What exactly is the synch issue? Does it only occur if I re-code the DTS track? Does it occur if I mix DD and DTS tracks? Does it matter if the tracks are linked by separate menu pages?
I think I found a way to get Nero to do it. It will allow me to copy the tracks as they were on the original disc. However, its menu functionality is limited. I will mess with it and see what I come up with.
Once I have a fully functional DVD written to my hard drive, how do I turn it into an .iso file?
victor-eyd 08-03-07, 01:35 PM An audio synch issue is simply that- the audio is off a few milliseconds with the video. This seems to occur only on dts tracks. Since I never tried an all dts (or included dts for that matter) I can't see how it occurs, but I only know that it does

Check out the Jurassic Park clip (which happens to be DTS) on Demo Disk #2. You will see about a 1-2 sec audio delay on that one.
The thing I was thinking out was to add some delay to the audio so it would be in sync with the video. I believe DVDLab has that capability. The 25k question is if the delay is consistently the same every time you play the clip.
mpgxsvcd 08-03-07, 03:38 PM I am going to try the mixed disc anyway. I have included both the DD and the DTS tracks for each clip that has DTS. That should allow you to select DD if the DTS track is messed up.
Nero allows me to transfer the vob files to a DVD without re-encoding them. I have extracted the main title from many DTS DVDs and then burned just that main title to a DVD. I have never had any lip synch issues before. Have you tried to do this with Nero?
My biggest question now is how do I produce the .iso file?
mpgxsvcd 08-03-07, 03:47 PM I think I figured it out. I am creating the .iso image now. Can we upload the .iso to the FTP server? I did it without menus for now. I will work on getting the menus in there later.

OK #24 is done as well!
I am just demoing it at volume(I have kids) for the first time. I am actually quite pleased with it myself. It is not exactly your standard Demo Disc. It has a lot of content you have never seen before but I think it is pretty good. Hope you like surfing and loud noises! I will try to mail it out on Monday. I have to burn a few copies first. Do you all want the .iso copy or the regular DVD?
Here is the preliminary list of what is on it. I will note where I have used someone elses rip. Otherwise they were ripped by me in their original format with both DD and DTS when available.
This disc would be Rated “R”
Katherine Mcphee from Fox’s American Idol – She is SMOKIN in this one!
O Brother, Where Art Thou – Ripped from Disc 1 – I just love that track
House of Flying Daggers – It just isn’t a Demo disc without that track
IMAX Coral Reef Intro – Good music, DTS, and large waves!
IMAX Coral Reef Fly By – A nice fly by with lots of surround and super high quality color
Blue Crush – Ripped from Disc 4 – Babes and Waves – What is better than that?
Step Into Liquid – PipeLine
Step Into Liquid – Jaws – Huge Bass and some hard hitting music
Step Into Liquid – Cortez Bank – LARGE WAVES – Big BASS
Billabong Odyssey – Intro – Huge Bass. Even bigger Wave.
Billabong Odyssey – Teahupoo – Also known as Cho-Poo. HEAVY Waves. Big Bass
IMAX – Magic of Flight – Jet assisted C-130! Big sound!
Flight of the Phoenix – Ripped from Disc 2
Hulk – Ripped from Disc 2
Matrix – Fight scene Ripped from Disc 1(I think)
Don’t know the name of the Movie – Buildings implode – Ripped from Disc 2(Underworld Maybe?)
The Incredibles – Running through the forest
300 – Beginning scene with Bass
300 – Elephant falls
Apocalypto – Running away from Arrows
Apocalypto – Waterfall
Lord of the Ring – Return of the King (LOTR ROTK) – Elephants
Predator
Rules of Engagement - This one is disturbing so it is near the end. Good Demo though
King Kong – Running away from Dinosaurs
King Kong – Fighting Planes
Final Destination 2 – Not for the faint of Heart but an awesome Demo - from Disc 21
Final Destination 3 – Even worse and even better than number 2 from Disc 21
War of the Worlds – Heavy Bass
Pulse – Strong pulse scenes from 1:10 – 1:12 in the movie
thetooth 08-04-07, 12:15 PM I have had issues with audio sync before... they suck! I found a tool that fixes that. I am not sure where to get it anymore but it is called: Ac3 Delay Corrector.Exe or ac3d21b1. It is a fantastic program that saved me a ton of headaches.
The one thing to know that in order to use this you will need to rip the part of the movie(shrink)... then demux it. (I am sure some people know what that means, break the audio from the video) then you can use the delay corrector and then join them back together and tadaaa... you're good to go.
It has been a long time, but I remember using a program to demux and it actually gave me the delay in the file name. ie. jurassic_park_dts_400ms_vob.dts or something like that. Then when I opened it up in the corrector it automatically adjusted it 400ms and I saved it.
It was either vobedit or vobrator or dvddecryptor that did the demuxing. I think.....
mpgxsvcd 08-04-07, 01:24 PM I tried the disc and all of the DTS tracks played perfectly. Every clip is in its original format so I didn't really expect it to have delay problems. I wasn't able to put any menus on this disc. It just plays the clips straight through. However, each clip is a separate track so you can skip tracks. Some tracks went across scene lines so some clips have track separators in the middle of them. You can't have everything, right?
Let me practice a little more and I can try to clean up the disc a little bit. I might try to great the menus in one program and then import the files with another program. That might work? Anyway enjoy the disc. Thanks to everyone who has helped me create the disc and everyone who has shared their discs here. This is really a cool idea!

Adding the menus is what introduced the audio delay. Kweezr fought with it on D6 and finally gave up on the menu creation for that disc. I'm sure there is a way around it and "thetooth" may be on the right trail.
victor-eyd 08-04-07, 05:53 PM The only concern i have about thetooth's recommendation is that the program is called ac3xxx, which to me seems to indicate dolby digital only (ac3 is the in-house word for dd) so it may not be able to address dts tracks.
Kweezr and I use rejig, whic not only splits the tracks but audio corrects them when we are using dvdlab. Also, it remove any stuttering effects if one only use shrink to do create the tracks
Victor
mpgxsvcd 08-04-07, 09:51 PM I will try to figure out the menu issues tomorrow. I have found a good way to cut the DTS tracks so that there is no audio delay. The only problem is that I can not create the menus with it. I am going to try to create the menus with one program and then merge those with the tracks in another program. Anyway, even if it doesn't work the disc is playable. I showed it to some friends tonight and they were totally memorized by the surfing clips. You guys are going to like this one!

the "b1" means beta. Beta includes dts.
Here are the release notes:
Version 1.2
- First official release.
Version 1.3
- New optical design.
- Automatic generated target file name improved.
- "cut" is an irregular verb: "cutted" has been cut :-)
- If source file has been generated with DVD2AVI the delay
is automaticaly set.
Version 1.4
- BugFix: Sometimes Calculation of FramesPerSecond was wrong.
Now the displayed filelength (in sec and ms) should be correct.
Version 1.5
- End Delay added
Version 1.6
- MPA is now supported
(only with constant framelength)
Version 1.7
- If frames have to be add the option "Added frames are silent" can be chosen.
This should prevent strange sounds while continuously repeating the
first frame. This option may be faulty so if it won't work for you
switch it off.
Version 1.8
- Bug in MPA-Header evaluation fixed.
Version 1.9
- Commandline is evalated now. Link the program to the "Send To"-folder if you like.
Version 2.0
- Commandline can be used manually
Start: "Ac3 Delay Corrector.Exe" /Source <source-file> /Target <target-file> /Startdelay <delay ms> [/Enddelay <delay ms>] [/Silence] [/Close] [/Hidden]
Version 2.1b1
- dts-support (beta!!!)

What is the better sound track for the home theater experience, THX, DOLBY DIGITAL, or DTS? I notice that when I play DTS and set the reciever for THX, that I get DTS/THX output or DTS/DOLBY DIGITAL.

A THX Disc can be either a Dolby Digital and or a DTS track right? Personally I think the THX “Mode” on the receivers is nothing more than a gimmick. If the system is properly calibrated then it does not need any extra processing. However, that is just my opinion. I have a THX Yamaha receiver but I never use the THX processing.
I prefer DTS over Dolby Digital but I am dying to here the new lossless formats.

When it comes to a 7.1 system, if you want to engage all speakers in your system with a 5.1 track (most DVDs), you need to apply post-processing to the 5.1 track. The best choices in that scenario are either Pro Logic IIx or THX Ultra Cinema 2.
Both sound fantastic for expanding 5.1 tracks to 7.1 and giving a much more immersive environment. It takes information from the side surrounds and derives the rear channels (so it is the 5.1 track with THX or PLIIx layered ON TOP of it).
Now if you have a 5.1 system, I agree, there is little need for THX post-processing.

THX is a process applied to DTS or DD, it's not an audio codec, so yes you are correct. There's more to THX than the "gimmick" mode, but there are plenty of other threads in the amp forum to cover that if you are interested in learning more about it.
swithey 08-06-07, 10:17 AM Just to add a little more clarity to this "off-topic" discussion on audio formats, take a look at the link below. It does a pretty good job describing each format. In the end, it seems like Dolby Pro Logic IIx is the editors choice.
Pro Logic IIx: What it Is, How it Works, and a Comparison with Other Formats (http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volume_11_1/feature-prologic-iix-3-2004.html)

Sorry I should have clarified that I do indeed have a 5.1 system. I can see how it would be good for a 7.1 system though.
PLincoln 08-06-07, 11:48 AM actually a lot of people with untreated rooms find that THX Re-EQ processing is quite beneficial to tame the harshness of many soundtracks...though many other AVR's offer the same thing under different nomenclature...CinemaEQ or something like that. THX goes beyond just processing though...
have a look here for some more info:
http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volume_13_1/feature-article-thx-1-2006-part-1.html
My room is treated and I prefer PLIIx for my 7.1 setup, but there are many AVS members that do indeed use THX and look for it when buying receivers.
bottom line...what works for you may not work for someone else or vice versa...
shadowcaster 08-06-07, 12:02 PM This may have been asked before, but is Disc #23 THX's DD or DTS ?
victor-eyd 08-06-07, 12:07 PM DD, every track
shadowcaster 08-06-07, 12:55 PM Great, thanks ! In the process of downloading now.
mpgxsvcd 08-06-07, 02:48 PM I see what you are saying but I would rather fix the problem(treat the room or change the calibration) than try to cover it up with the THX processing. My room is untreated but my system is calibrated and I can not stand what the THX mode does on my Yamaha receiver. Like I said before I think it is a Gimmick for 5.1 systems. However, that is just my personal opinion.
Thanx for the replies on the sound tracks. This informatin is just what I was looking for.

swithey 08-06-07, 05:40 PM Demo Disc #25 is available for download on the FTP site
This Disc was made by a guy named Phil McKrackin. He authored this a while back and posted it to the Usenet forums. Shadowcaster was gracious enough to upload it to my site so everyone could enjoy the DVD. It has some nice menus, menu sound effects and good content. It includes a few new clips along with others you've seen on the other Demo DVDs. I've added the cover and DVD Label to the site as well. Pinstripe, if you want to make a cover and label to match the other DVDs (hint, hint), please feel free :D
Here is Phil's write-up on his disc:
Behold, The GuyPlex!
Crammed full with lots of beautiful action sequences from Guy Movies we've all
come to know and love, complete with the beautiful fullness of Dolby Digital 5.1
Surround Sound. (Sorry DTS ES fans, I couldn't find a tool to make a DTS ES
disc).
But I couldn't stop there. After all, we guys have two driving needs: 1) To show
off, and 2) To fix things if they are broken. So I put sound in all the menus to
test out the surround sound speakers. Each menu has two sounds, wind and water,
and in each of these menus each sound takes a different path around the home
theater speakers so you can verify they are connected and working properly.
Also, each menu has a "Play All" function, so you can start it up and let it run
all the way through. The "Play All" will even loop through all the scenes
continuously, so it can be used to show off your equipment non-stop (useful at
trade shows or retail showrooms, so long as you can live with that little bit of
harsh dialogue I wasn't able to edit out).
So here it is my NTSC brethren, ready to download and burn. The GuyPlex!
Contains scenes from:
- Behind Enemy Lines
- Black Hawk Down
- Cliffhanger
- Contact
- Fifth Element
- Harry Potter
- Ice Age
- Independence Day
- Jurrasic Park
- Lord of the Rings (has its own submenu)
- Matrix (has its own submenu)
- Ronin
- Star Wars: Episode 1
- Terminator 2
- The Last Samurai
- Tomorrow Never Dies
As always, if you want to download this disc or any of the other demo DVDs, please send me a PM requesting access.

Question on the covers. What do you do with these? If I want to make this fit on a basic DVD sleeve -- what do I do?
mpgxsvcd 08-07-07, 09:40 AM Here is the Final list for DVD #24. I distributed to several people at work so I hope they can confirm that the disc is playable in any DVD player(My car DVD player is the only one that would not play it properly). I have marked 2 of the tracks as (Turn volume DOWN). These tracks are the Magic of Flight, and the PULSE track. These two tracks really push your speakers to the limit. Turn it down the first time you listen to them. Then raise the volume progressively. They are well worth the extra effort but I like to be on the side of caution. All of the tracks up to Incredibles could be rated PG to PG-13 and everything after that is definitely R rated. Otherwise enjoy.
Thanks to everyone who has helped out with this and a special thanks to Swithey and Pinstripe for hosting the Disc and creating the cover art. Those are two things that I definitely could not have done!
This disc would be Rated “R”

My question is what do you do with them? Not how you make them.
I mean, do you print them on something special -- do they have to be re-sized?
What do you do with the link to the .jpg ?
Pinstripe 08-07-07, 07:34 PM Ah!
The previews above is only for eye candy. You need to download the linked files.
Print them at 100%. The covers are high res so they print nice and sharp. You can print them on any 8.5x11/letter paper then cut off the white edges. The label is 'mid' res because the label paper does not 'need' more. Use whatever software came with your labels to align the file.
mpgxsvcd, you obviously have macabre taste, so I hope this label does your dvd and you justice.

Me likey! It would be cool to have a bit of a surfing theme though? Maybe a Silver Surfer meets Rob Zombie type picture. Anyway looks good as it is!
I take it back. I think that cover does suite the Disc pretty well. You would definitely have to have a death wish to do what those surfers do!
As always, Well Done Pinstripe!
caesar1 08-07-07, 10:20 PM Demo Disc #25 is available for download on the FTP site
NOTE: Mpgxsvcd's Demo Disc #24 is on its way to me via US Mail. Hopefully I'll have it on the FTP site by this weekend.
Looks like we have a plethora (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6E682C7Jj4) of Demo DVDs coming out these days. Hopefully I'll get mine finished up soon so I can add it to the mix
I checked this out tonight. Its pretty good. Some of the tracks are not great surround sound-wise -- but they look good or are exciting scenes.
I should also point out that the Jurassic Park tracks on this DVD (there are 2 of them actually) are NOT DD 5.1. They are DD Surround 2.0 (according to my Onkyo 805 display).

aack! I hate it when that happens! I had the same problem too when one of my early ones, I think it was 10, the 1st track was in DD2.0, it was such a pain to redo the whole dvd over again. Hope this won't be the case.

mpgxsvcd 08-08-07, 12:55 AM Ok since my first disc is complete, I decided to start disc number 2! This is going to be an interesting one. It will be all movies "You loved growing up". The goal with this disc is for you to say "my god I can't believe I remember this scene so well"! Now if you did not grow up in the 80's this disc will probably bore you to tears. Otherwise it should be a good flashback.
I don't have a complete list of titles yet but here are some starters.
Rad
North Shore
Transformers the series
Princess Bride
Robin Hood(No not that one, the cartoon!)
American Flyer
Return of the Jedi
Aliens
The program
Lawnmower Man
Stand By Me
Do you think this is a good theme for a disc? Should I continue to put it together? Will this be Disc number 26?

Since a demo disc, by definition, should be primo sound and video quality, I don't think putting older movies on such a disc is a good idea. These clips won't have the surround sound up to snuff.
But that's just my humble opinion.
bpratt2 08-08-07, 08:14 AM Demo cover #23 has been updated (asterisk's removed). Swithey, just grab them from the link on the previous page.
#25 label and covers:
I don't suppose you've done the thicker case cover slips as yet? ... the one I see here appears to be for the slim cases.
Also, any chance of doing the disk labels for the full face ? :)
Oh, and thanks for doing them in the first place, even if you aren't interested in my suggestions.
mpgxsvcd 08-08-07, 09:04 AM what about RED DAWN????
Shhh… That was my sleeper disk! I left off a few titles just to have some surprises. Now that you mention it though. What scene do you remember the most? My personal favorite is the landing of the Russians at the school. That is a little gory though. The Helicopter scene at the end is another good one.
By the way I have widescreen copies of some of the movies that never came out in widescreen. RAD comes to mind!
Not sure why a demo DVD has to have the absolute state of the art sound and visuals though? The point of a Demo DVD is to play something that helps you totally enjoy your home theatre. Yea the great Bass tracks show off your equipment. However, it doesn’t hurt to have some titles that you “really” love and might have a hard time finding otherwise. Just a thought. Let me know what everyone else thinks. I won’t go through the trouble of creating the Disc if no one is interested in it.

About 75% of the movies I listed were re-mastered in recent years. Heck some of them are considered reference material aren’t they? Aliens(Special Edition), Superman(Re-release), Jedi(Re-mastered), Transformers(re-mastered).

True -- but re-mastered (whatever that really means) still never seems to sound as good as the very best modern sound tracks. Unless they did the entire sound over from scratch.
Re-mastered tracks to me always seem to sound a little less realistic. Kind of like faking it.

You're correct, they are DD 2.0. But also keep in mind that this disc was authored in Feb, 2005.
Not bad for the time and it may have been the only track(s) available then, for those 2 clips.
Ok, you might say he could have made a different choice in order to be consisitent.
But, he did make it for his own use, and then decided to post it on usenet, in March of that year.

I just thought it might have been overlooked, because the menu specifies that an ice age trailer is 2.0 (but didn't specify these tracks were 2.0).
I'm just anal about these things. I noticed in demo 6, that the wrong jacket for Lord of the Rings is used before one of the clips (it shows 2 Towers for the DVD jacket just before the clip, but the track is really from Fellowship of the Rings).

I concur. Older tracks, even remastered for 5.1, still just uses the fidelity available at the time. Sure, they might make some stuff more directional, but from what I've seen heard its just not as good as the newer stuff, ie movies made for the Dolby Digital/dts era

Even if they were sourced from clips made in 2005, for me in order to keep the fidelity of the recording as intact as possible, I would at least find the originals as opposed to just copying old tracks. Case in point, some of shaggy's clips on 23 were in DD2.0, so I simply found those movie in my collection, established where the recording points are, are reclipped them for the dvd. Its not that hard. And since its just Jurassic, that copy was readily available to rip.
A demo dvd, regardless of who made it, should showcase your sound system to its very best. If you build yourself a serious 5.1(or better) ht but end up playing 2.0 tracks, you're not truly listening to your system to its potential.
Victor
shadowcaster 08-08-07, 03:13 PM Victor, I also have the Jurassic DVD with DD 5.1. What programs do you like to use for the rip and replacement? I'd like to replace those 2, as well. Thanks

I tend to agree with this as well. The purpose of the Demo DVD (at least for this venue) is to show off the system both visually and audibly. Yea, it is fun to see some old (non 5.1) clips of movies you loved in the past but IMO, do not fit into the type of disc we've created so far.
Now with that said, I have no issue with the creation of any type of demo disc. What might work is to create a new category for this type of material so people know what they are downloading before they download. I have more than enough space on the FTP server, so feel free to author away :)

So I guess you threw out all of your CDs when you upgraded your system to 5.1+ right?
Almost all of the tracks I will put on this disc will be Dolby Digital 5.1. However, they are almost all re-mastered from an original 2.0 sound track. There will be a few tracks that will be in Dolby Digital 2.0 but some of those tracks are not even available to the general public in 16:9 or Dolby Digital 2.0. This will not be a reference disk throughout. However, it will have plenty of good visuals and audio and it has something some of the discs lack(Entertaining content!). Personally, I think a good demo discs needs all 3 of those things. But that is just my opinion.
Some of the previous discs have Music videos that are sourced from video rather than film. I haven’t heard anyone complain about those? Those are certainly not reference quality visuals and the audio is usually suspect as well.
victor-eyd 08-08-07, 06:02 PM So I guess you threw out all of your CDs when you upgraded your system to 5.1+ right?
Not really since I use cds for background music. 5.1 wasn't necessary ;)

True, but still the demo tree m.o. was simply just that, demo material to show off or exploit your home theater's potential. I'm not saying what you choose will be or good or not, but as a contributor to this particular thread, I always tried to find clips which adhere to your 3 principles- entertaining content, inviting visuals, and enveloping 5.1 audio. Did I accomplish them with all of the clips I chose? Definitely not. Some are just total duds! But I tried to adhere to current sources, so that when you or anyone else downloads thems or get them through the mail, many if not most will satisfy their demo needs for the type of ht they have.
Some of the previous discs have Music videos that are sourced from video rather than film. I haven’t heard anyone complain about those? Those are certainly not reference quality visuals and the audio is usually suspect as well.
Music was inserted on some dvds to show off the live aspect of the ht experience. Some tracks are better than others in this regard but again, the overall theme was to source clips that show off your theater. Also, it breaks the monotony of explosions and gunfire :D
But hey, as swithey said, you're free to create and post your demo ht. We all are. Enjoy the creation process. Many others will enjoy it as well. :)

Perhaps call it a "compilation disc" rather than a "demo disc".
MrPorterhouse 08-08-07, 08:53 PM Perhaps call it a "compilation disc" rather than a "demo disc".
Exactly correct. It would definetely be a compilation disc. A DEMO DISC needs to have massive horsepower in every respect, while a compilation disc needs to "hit home" with memories and such.

the tank scenes, where they shoot the traitor who is with them, can't remember the guys name, maybe the area after they get into the truck after the school scene and get out of town - maybe some good special effects in there, early bird gets the worm...off the top of my head

I am not kidding when I say I watched RAD over 100 times as a kid. I would love to have that on DVD!
First let me say thank you to everyone who has worked on these disks!
I have all 23 Demo disks as well as some DTS Demo disks. I believe I have more explosions than Desert Storm. How about coming up with something COMPLETELY different.
1. An all Concert Demo (various musical styles would be preferred).
2. A "Subtle Effects Demo (dripping water, rain, trees rustling, crowd voices, echos, even the rumbling of an earthquake, etc.), all well outside the center forward sound stage.
3. A (primarily) Video Demo (scenery, bright colored clothing, sunsets etc.).
The last 2 are guaranteed to be more impressive to MOST women and would be a nice change for the guys.

There was talk of that but too many legal mumbo jumbo threats and it more or less killed itself.

Start with fight scene in the courtyard between Donnie Yen and Jet Li in Hero
3. A (primarily) Video Demo (scenery, bright colored clothing, sunsets etc.).
Robin Williams' What Dreams May come might work- scene unknown
Finding Nemo- underwater scene with Mr. Ray flyover might also work
i'm sure there are others

shaggy29 08-09-07, 12:01 AM Victor - What do you mean you replaced some of my tracks to make the DVD better - HOW DARE YOU!!! LOL
I am for any of the above...I just enjoy something different. Something to POP into the DVD player to watch for a few minutes. I am the same way listening to my IPOD...I listen to a minute or two of a song then click to the next one.
You guys create away. I am simply trying to help out swithey as best as I can (which ain't much btw). Besides it is not like any of you guys need my help - I am just kinda forcing my way in.
What I would like to see is a simple channel ID disk for 5.1, 6.1, and 7.1. I have 5.1 obviously since it is on the DVD I helped Victor with - do any of you have similar for the other 2?

I noticed that as-well and we thank you for it. You are right not every track on a Demo disk will have you glued to your seet. However, the majority of your discs are stellar and you have made quite a few. Keep up the good work and I am going to generate the “compilation disk”. If anyone has specific requests for certain scenes in certain movies please speak your piece now.

Thanks Swithey! Yep off to the beach right now for a much needed week of vacation. Let me know how the disc plays for you guys and whether you like it or not!
Up next! Compilation Disc 1 is in the mail to swithey!
mpgxsvcd 08-10-07, 12:39 PM Ok I have completed the “Compilation Disc 01” and sent it to swithey! Let me just say if you were born in 1975 or 1976 you are probably going to cry when you watch this DVD! I have watched almost every one of the demo DVDs and none of them brought a bigger smile to my face than this one. If you didn’t grow up in the 80’s then you won’t get this disc at all. If you did then you will probably call up all of your home town buddies and say “come on over I have something to show you”.
The sound quality is not up to today’s standards on every track. However, it is at least as good as the first time you saw the movie and in some cases it is better!
Just think how cool it would be to see these titles that you love on your new home theatre. I bet most of you saw these movies for the first time on a rented Block Buster VHS or maybe even BETA and a 19” tube TV! Yes I still have our BETA VCR that is actually older than I am and weighs almost as much(A little exaggeration there)!
So please enjoy this blast down memory lane on your new home theatre system!
This disc would be Rated “PG to “PG-13”. The Aliens clip and maybe the American Flyers clips are the only things that would make it PG-13.
• RAD!!!!!!!!!!! – “Break the ICE” - Just the intro scene. If you were like me then you probably memorized this routine and spent everyday of your childhood trying to perfect it. Dolby Digital 5.1 but sourced from analog 2.0. This is sourced from video so it is interlaced 29.97 FPS. It has some interlacing artifacts but they are not terribly noticeable. Make sure your DVD player de-interlaces well with this one.
• Canon Ball Run – Intro scene with the Chicks in the Lambo! Dolby Digital 5.1
• Princess Bride – Slow Going? Dolby Digital 5.1
• Princess Bride – Ultimate Sword Fight! Dolby Digital 5.1
• Princess Bride – You Fool! Dolby Digital 5.1
• Princess Bride – “Have fun Storming the Castle” My 4 year old son still says this to everyone as they leave the house! Dolby Digital 5.1
• Princess Bride – Inigo Montoya – “You killed my father prepare to DIE! Dolby Digital 5.1
• North Shore – Final Heat of the surf contest – Laird Hamilton’s greatest acting role!
• American Flyers – “Eddie” Dolby Digital 2.0
• American Flyers – “The Test” Dolby Digital 2.0
• Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 – Vanilla Ice’s break though role! My 4 year son absolutely loves this movie Dolby Digital 5.1
• LawnMower Man – “Access Denied” Dolby Digital 5.1
• Return of the Jedi – Speeder Bikes Dolby Digital 5.1
• Transformers the series – Intro Dolby Digital 5.1
• Transformers the series – Dolby Digital 5.1 - Heavy Metal War, episode 16 from season 1. The smaller truck's name was Huffer and he towed Prime's trailer back to the Ark after Prime was beaten in an unfair Gladiator-like duel with Megatron.
• Disney’s Robin Hood – Classic Cartoon! Dolby Digital 5.1
• Animalolympics – “Babawa Wabawa”! Dolby Digital 2.0
• The Program – Hard hits and Steroids? Dolby Digital 5.1
• The Program – The Realization? Dolby Digital 5.1 If anyone has the “cut” scene where he lays down in-between the cars I would love to have that!

• The Space shuttle blasts off – NOTE: This is not the challenger. I just remember watching the space shuttle take off so many times that I thought it would be a good ending clip.
