View Full Version : Official Pioneer 4360/5060/Elite Experiences, Set-up, Questions & Pictures Thread!!!
My settings are currently set to D-Nice's post beak-in settings but I'm noticing that television programming tends to be overly dark. Also, the blacks in the scenes have zero detail. Last night I was watching According to Jim and there was a scene where they show a Minister wearing a black vest under a black jacket but on my set the two just blended together as one garment.
Currently, my STB (SA3250) is connected via Component to a VSX-74TXVi which outputs via HDMI to the PRO-1130HD.
What can I do or change to make the picture lighter and give the blacks detail?

NemoZorro 08-16-06, 11:55 AM I noticed a few people chatting about build dates. For mine the panel was June2006, and the MR was May2006.
Cool to get a June/May combo - you may have won the prize for the last 1130 to roll of the line! Enjoy your new toy.
ssmobin 08-16-06, 12:45 PM I think I am going to pull the trigger on the Oppo 970. Is the oppodigital website the only site to order it from? For the price it seems almost too good to be true.
CHolleman 08-16-06, 02:35 PM There is no such thing as post-breakin settings ;) Set them to your liking.
yeah i kinda expected that, but i do remember you providing settings for guys with Denon dvd players i think and moto STB's. i understand it's a personal pref. thing, but what would you consider too high a level of contrast/brightness with regards to avoiding damage to the panel. i'm at 30 cont. +1 bright right now.
ssmobin 08-16-06, 05:38 PM You prefer the 970 over the 971? If so, why?
I am trying to figure out which one of the two to get. From what I've read most people have gone with the 970 over the 971 and I am just trying to understand the differences and why the 971 is $50 more and doesnt have HDMI. Is it because of the Faroudja chipset? Is that a better chipset than the the 'All-in-one video processing chip' thats in the 970?
Sorry if this has arlready been covered guys, but my gf wants to buy me a new birthday present so I need to make a decision quickly, and let her know, before she goes out and buys me bath towels or something stupid like that! :p
Thanks all! :)I would difinitely get the OPPO 970! At 480i HDMI into the Pio 1130, it can't be beat (IMHO).

Well if you have a denon 2910, 3910, Pioneer 79avi, Oppo 971, SA3250 cable box, or SA8300 cable box, I might be able to help you with some settings.

ssmobin 08-16-06, 07:18 PM The settings are very good! It looks delicious on HD material :)
Hey how are the settings going?
TheDeliverator 08-16-06, 11:27 PM Gentlemen, I wanted to say as so many others have previously...
THANK YOU.
I have spent the last 2 weeks scouring this forum for information re: just about everything HDTV related. I have learned much, from mounting (the displays ya pervs), to macro blocking and yet I feel my learning has just begun. My 4360 arrives tomorrow!!!
I have devoted the last four days of my life to reading this thread and am only at page 61. I have created a MS Word doc. (full of the questions and answers all of you have contributed) so that I may reference back to it when I have problems. I was going to wait until I finished reading the thread in its entirety before I posted, but now that my 4360 arrives tomorrow I found I couldn't wait. Woooot!
I purchased the display through Invision (Pioneer Dealer and Forum Sponsor) and couldn't be more pleased with the service and price I received from them. I live in Maryland (current D* subscriber) and will be (hopefully) receiving OTA HD signals 'till Comcast can provide me with an HDTV set up. After research in another thread I realized D* just isn't the HDTV option for me due to compresion, etc... I will be retaining D* for the NFL package only.
I am curious if any one here would mind if I posted a noob guide for 6th Gen Pio owners(the aforementioned word doc.). I am compiling information from this entire thread. I hope to include information based upon the posters opinions on: display settings, input & connections, service providers, firewire recording, mounts, ISF calibration, assembly and manufactured dates, DVD, D-VHS, 4:3 pulldown, 1:1 pixel mapping and on and on.... I am hoping new members to the forum could read and learn about Pio 6th Gen displays without having to trudge through all 159 pages. If y'all ok the idea (and of course if it hasn't been done yet. I am after all only on page 61), I would submit the guide for review in this thread and of course it could be updated as events warrant.
Please post your thoughts.
**EDIT**
I believe that D-Nice and others who have been long time contributors to this thread have the expertise to produce a Noob Guide more quickly and efficiently, but I do have the time so I figured I'd offer.

I don't know about anyone else, but I think it is a FANTASTIC idea! I have a similar Notepad text file that I've been compiling for a year on this stuff that I would be willing to share as well. Let me know if you would like me to send you my file; it's not formatted very well but it has some great info from this and other threads.
There have been some wonderful contributers to this and other threads, especially D-Nice, but many others as well, and they deserve so many kudos for taking the time to help all of us. :):):):):):)
Sounds like a great idea to me! Thanks y'all.
ssmobin 08-17-06, 11:59 AM sounds like a good idea. maybe we can have different sections, or versions, for different panels 4360/5060/Elite?
SrPicman 08-17-06, 04:56 PM May be heresy to ask, but here goes:
Is HDMI worth the "trouble"? I have a SA8300HD running Component to my 1130 and optical audio to my AV receiver. I'm also running Component from my Denon 1720 to the 1130 and optical audio to my AV. Have not tried HDMI, so I don't know what I'm missing. I have probably 300+ panel hours since I got the 1130 in April, have used D-Nice's break-in settings and have fiddled with them since. (Biggest change is going to 30 on Contrast, though I have gone back and forth between Manual (D-Nice) and Low in Color Mgt.) With a good source, PQ is wonderful, e.g., a first-time guest said the picture was 3D. If I do try HDMI, will I have to do any switching as a function of program?
Thanks,
SrPicman
I'm a newbie on this board and will be taking delivery on a Pioneer 4360 next week. This is my first plasma so I want to make sure it's set-up and broken-in properly. If anyone has some instructions/opinions, I'd appreciate hearing from them either on the board or directly via email. Also interested in suggestions on cables, surge/line conditioners, etc. I will be hooking this up to Comcast digital cable and not running any home theater equipment at this point. Cable card versus Cable box? Thanks in advance for any help.................

Intervention1 08-17-06, 09:03 PM To TheDeliverator,
A very fine idea you have. I followed the same process waiting for the time to purchase copying and pasting everything relevent to the 4360. With this many late purchases of the 4360 (me included) and the 4270 available, I wonder what the defining factor was in most decisions?
Speaking for myself it was matter of outward visual appeal, PQ, separate media box, speakers on the side (detachable), 43" glass, etc. Price for the 4270 was nearly the same at the time, what was that about?
I still loved the 4360 better for the reasons mentioned and probably due to reading so much about it on this thread I felt I knew the panel.

I will definitly be sharing my experience concerning "cable card", AV Receiver, speakers, etc. The only thing I purchased (before my panel arrived) was a "surge/ line conditioner and it was "Monster". No complaints other than price, I didnt have the time to research anything else till after the fact then maybe order online, the 4360 was due any day at that time. So I sorta cringed paying that much, but I had much more to protect and didnt want to power up the plasma without one.
Make sure you follow the settings listed on this thread for break-in. Save2 is a big one and will dim right down, the picture is still stunning. You will be most pleased.
motorcitykreig 08-18-06, 10:21 AM My 1130 has an inch-wide blue/green band running from top to bottom just left of center. It appears on any input, at first I thought it was just comcast, but it's there on any source. Anyone seen or heard of this before? Is Pioneer's service any good?
Authorized service came to look at my 1130 issue and thinks a ribbon-type cable from the video board is bad. The cable is on back order until October-November, what can I do? No 1130 until then, no way.
I talked with an electrician friend of mine and he suggested getting a Tripp-Lite LC-1200 line conditioner/surge unit. It is a bit of overkill as it handles up to 1200 watts, but I thought it would be good to have for adding additional home theater, etc. And you actually don't save much by going smaller. I picked one up today at PCNation for $110 with free 3 day delivery. To save some time looking, can anyone let me know the thread that explains the break-in procedure for a 4360? Thanks..............

Jediphish 08-20-06, 08:23 AM Hey all - I finally got my 1130HD installed this week. Our internet didn't get turned on until yesterday (moved into new house), so I had some time to play with it before returning to the forum.
So far I'm loving it, but I have one BIG question - How can I delete unwanted channels after running an auto channel scan. I don't need any of the NTSC channels as I can receive all of their digital ATSC counterparts. There are a few ATSC channels I'd like to delete or hide as well. I don't see this option anywhere. The only work-around I've found so far is to program all of the channels I want into one of the favorites buttons and then use that button to cycle through the "wanted" channels. This doesn't allow you go change channels in reverse however. It is cumbersome to cycle through 10 channels to get back to the one I wanted to watch every time I happen to flip the channels to see what else is on.
Also, the TVGUIDE service is not picking up all of my local ATSC channels, even though the auto channels scan discussed above did. The TVGUIDE picks up all of the local NTSC channels and some from cities 150 miles away??), but not all of the ATSC channels.
Thanks in advance for responses - my main question is how to delete channels from the scan.
pintozack 08-20-06, 11:20 AM I'd like to combine an Oppo 970 or 971 with my 930HD. Since these can send an HDMI signal, I'm wondering about the capabilities of the 930HD - I searched and couldn't find the answer, so sorry if this has been asked. Since the HDMI inputs share with Input1 and Input3, does this mean that you can have both a component input and an HDMI input connected simultaneously and it will automatically detect which one to use? I know that on some inputs you can have, say, s-video and component and it will pick the one it wants in a pecking order of preference, but I didn't know if it does this with the HDMI inputs (especially since they have the whole enabled/disabled thing.) Thank you!
(A little off topic, but since there has been much conversation on the Oppo here... just wondering if anyone has any experience with the quality of the PAL-NTSC conversion of these and if there's any difference between the 970 and 971.)
elvisahmed 08-20-06, 04:00 PM No pintozack the Pio will not automatically detect which one to use for the high def inputs. in fact the HDMI is initially disabled. So yes you can have both component and HDMI hooked up to the same input and manually switch between the two.
a_ok2me 08-20-06, 04:03 PM So far I'm loving it, but I have one BIG question - How can I delete unwanted channels after running an auto channel scan.Someone in prior posts said he called Pioneer and they said you can't delete channels. Unbelievable.
I did exactly as you did with the favorite buttons. But, they're inconvenient because you can't scroll up and down the channels; each press only up-cycles through the list. I've learned to program every station I want to see on my TV Guide. There is one local station that is not listed, so that's a little annoying. I just picked an available station and programed the local station to it. I get the wrong listing, but better than nothing.
I plan on calling Pioneer for myself to see if they have anything different to say.

I called Pioneer with this same question, his answer.....use the "favorites". This is a fine television, connectivity, PQ, etc. But to leave out a simple thing like deleting channels after scanning, a feature found on tv's 15 years older? Why?

Why?...and you can't even add OTA HD (ie, 7.1) stations manually. I'm going to call them anyway just to bother them since the smart guys there did such a great job bothering me with junk for features.
Jediphish 08-20-06, 10:37 PM I got into the service menu to check the hours on my panel, but I couldn't get to the right screen because I don't see a "select" button on my remote. Is "select" the same as the "enter" button in between the up, down, left, and right buttons?
I've notice a "select" as a discreet code on the Harmony remote but for the life of me I don't see it on the Elite PDP remote. Am I about to get bitten by a snake or is there nothing wrong with my vision. Thanks!
gbless77 08-20-06, 11:37 PM Jediphish,
I believe that you use the mute button. Do a search in this thread for panel time, directions have been posted before. BE CAREFUL, don't mess with that stuff if your not a pro.

Yes, I need to use "mute" (which is actually "muting" on my remote), but the instructions also require pressing "select," which I cannot find on my remote. I assume "enter" is the same thing but I was afraid to press anything else. I've been inside the service menu on my Sony many, many times, but I know my way around it, whereas I'm new to the Pioneer menu. Help is appreciated. Here are the instructions I got from way back in this thread that I was following:
Start with the plasma turned OFF.
Press DISPLAY on the remote
(just press, do not hold).
Wait 3 seconds.
Press LEFT, UP, LEFT, RIGHT then POWER (on the remote).
If done correctly, the plasma turns on and the INFORMATION page is
displayed.
Press MUTE (3 times to go to “PANEL FACTS”) and press SELECT.
Press DOWN (1 time) to page through each menu (for instance, to see the multiple pages that make up the INFORMATION section).
“HR-MTR” = the panel time
CAUTION: do not change settings in the service menu if you don't know what you are doing. Everytime I see info about the service menu, there are big warnings that you can totally screw your panel if you change things.

Too bad... but thanks for the answer! Seems there's just a few little details where this TV could have done better. The fact that you have 2 HDMI and 3 component sounds great - until you realize that you can't use them all in the simultaneous way you might expect. Oh well...
Pestana 08-21-06, 08:39 AM D-Nice, could you possibly share this info, I'm having a similar situation with my 4360?
Pestana 08-21-06, 09:14 AM You have mail (Finally)
Aplogies people, my previous question to D-Nice were referencing this post above (post 4751). :o
When sending a 1280x768 signal to the 5060 via VGA, what refresh rate should you specify?
Hi,
Did you ever get a response to this? I've found that I get unacceptable judder at 60hz... 70hz looks better, but for some reason the panel thinks it's at 1024x<something>

NemoZorro 08-21-06, 06:56 PM Yes indeed, SELECT and ENTER are the same in these instructions.

ssmobin 08-22-06, 11:54 AM Well after callling oppo and asking their recommendation, I ended up picking up a 971 yesterday at their office in Mountain View. I hooked it up and after playing with the settings I am pretty impressed. I tried 720p and 1080i. For the particular dvd I was watching 1080i looked the best. I cant wait to watch a good dvd on this. Poseidon comes out today so I will probably pick that up to see how it looks.
With apologies if this is a repeat, but my searches didn't pick up similar posts. In watching my pioneer 1130, the very top of the picture and the very bottom are cut off. I know that some amount of "lost picture" is normal. However, we can't read, for example, the sports scores on the ESPN ticker. We can't read the program information on the dishnetwork banners that appear at the top of the screen when you change channels. How do you shrink the picture size a bit?
Thanks in advance, Bob

Check your cable box and plasma picture settings as one of the two is set to zoom.
Setting up the Pioneer 4360 this week and will be using the suggested break-in settings. Approx. how many hours should it run on these settings? Any other break-in procedures recommended?
Pestana 08-23-06, 04:32 AM Hi people, I have a 4360 post break-in at 300+ hours. Contrast is set to 30 and Brightness at +4 at the moment for DVD souces.
The display still seems too dark to my eyes, even with no ambient light. I have a mid-range, all-in-one DVD player (Sony SC5) hooked up via component. Dark scenes have very little detail and look very 2D. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong here.
I run mostly PAL DVD's. I can't set the brightness any higher, blacks will start looking very grey...
I also have a digital satellite receiver connected via a single video RCA and it too looks pretty dark.
My query is very similar to the 4751 post on page 159.
Any suggestions?
I still have to test my HTPC via HDMI with some HD material or SD material
Panel was manufactured in January 2006, MR in March 2006.

no, didn't get a response, any advice anyone on the best refresh rate to specify over VGA at 1280x768?
Also, would the picture quality be better if the computer had an HDMI output and this was used instead of the VGA? I am wondering whether the benefits of native rate outweigh the analog connection (vs digital of HDMI).
Thanks, Ben

I'd like to know this as well. I'm definately getting at least a 970, partly because of the HDMI and price, but if the 971 is better, then i may splurge and drop the $50. i AM afraid of the MB issues that the 971 is known for and would like to know if this is a problem with the Pio displays as well. (I've heard MB can be dependant on what display you're feeding with the 971.) so what's the deal Pio owners w/an oppo? i have a 4360 btw.

A quick search of the thread will give you all the break in information you need, but as a summary:
- Use the settings for 200 hours, then adjust contrast and brightness to taste
- During this time, try to stretch all content to fill the screen (no black bars)
- Limit any gaming
- Limit material with static images (like station logos)
Just use common sense and you will have a wonderful toy for years to come.
R Harkness 08-23-06, 12:22 PM Hey folks, I posted this in another Pioneer thread but it was suggested I re-post it here:
I've been helping a friend install his new Pioneer plasma. Unfortunately the model number currently escapes me (and I didn't recognize the model number at the time), but it seems to be a 43" model, monitor-only (no speakers) and the media box.
Two issues we have encountered are:
1. He tried using the HDMI connection from his Scientific Atlanta Hi-Def PVR (DVR) cable box to his media box, but could not get any signal. (I wasn't around when he tried this, but I'm wondering if there is a known "handshake" issue with the Pioneer media box and the Scientific Atlanta box, which is supplied by his cable provider Rogers cable. Unfortunately for him, upon phoning Rogers cable he was told they offer no tech support for HDMI issues :( )
2. Not having set up a Pioneer media box before I was caught off guard by this issue: Given he can't use HDMI at this point to pass both video and sound, we have to use analog component video connections from his cable box and DVD player.
Now, I would have assumed that the media box would offer the type of features like many video switchers and scalers do - that is being able to pass through the digital coax
signals from, say the DVD player, to an AV receiver. So that the media box switches the (5.1 surround) sound along with the picture. But this doesn't seem to be the case.
I can find no digital coax input on the media receiver, to receive the surround sound from the DVD player. Which is puzzling to me given there is provision for sending out digital sound via an optical output (which we've wired to the A/V receiver).
And I presume, had we HDMI connections working, the media box would have sent out
the surround signals to an AV receiver via that optical connection (if a receiver didn't have an HDMI input).
So at this point he has to switch picture via his media box, and separately switch the sound input on his media receiver. This is the sort of thing I would have thought the media box would have simplified, in conjunction with an A/V receiver.
But perhaps I'm just wrong about what the media box is meant to achieve. (Or I've missed an obvious connection).
Any suggestions or help?
Thanks,

(I wasn't around when he tried this, but I'm wondering if there is a known "handshake" issue with the Pioneer media box and the Scientific Atlanta box, which is supplied by his cable provider Rogers cable. Unfortunately for him, upon phoning Rogers cable he was told they offer no tech support for HDMI issues :( )
The HDMI inputs (input 1 and 3) are off by default. To turn HDMI on, select input 1 or 3 and do the following:
Home Menu ==> Options ==> HDMI Input ==> Setting ....switch to "Enable".....make sure the Video and Audio are set to "Auto"
2. Not having set up a Pioneer media box before I was caught off guard by this issue: Given he can't use HDMI at this point to pass both video and sound, we have to use analog component video connections from his cable box and DVD player.
When you enable the HDMI port, he will be able to pass both audio and video for the SA cable box.
The MR is not a switcher. You will not be able to pass 5.1 DD over HDMI to the MR then out thru the digital coax or optical ports. Your can only pass 5.1 DD thru the digital coax or optical port when using a cable card or OTA antenna.
Thanks,
For 5.1 surround to his receiver, you have to connect the DVD player's optical or digital coax directly to his receiver.
R Harkness 08-23-06, 02:58 PM Thanks D-Nice. You rock, Sir!
Since my own set up can not take HDMI I haven't had to deal with these issues - and while I've swapped between HDMI and component cables to evaluate images on store (and friend's) displays, I haven't needed to pay attention to routing the audio features of HDMI to this point. (Excepting one guy's set-up where routing HDMI sound/video worked like a charm to his AV receiver. And HDMI just isn't an issue in the devices I use for my professional work).
So clearly some of my expectations about the media box were mistaken (re switching).
Given his receiver does not have HDMI inputs, it looks like he's stuck running the DVD sound into his A/V receiver via digital coax, as we have it set now. Ok.
A couple questions though:
As I understand it, had all his components HDMI outputs, and his A/V receiver HDMI inputs, he could have passed his 2 HDMI sources into the media box and out to his receiver, using his AV receiver to simultaneously switch picture and DD 5.1 surround via HDMI. Correct (?)
Also, about this:
You will not be able to pass 5.1 DD over HDMI to the MR then out thru the digital coax or optical ports. Your can only pass 5.1 DD thru the digital coax or optical port when using a cable card or OTA antenna.
If I'm reading this correctly, it seems to imply the Pioneer media reciever is extremely "HDMI-centric," in that (failing having a cable card/OTA antenna)...you are screwed for
getting 5.1 HD-Broadcast signals from the MR into your AV reciever, unless your AV reciever has an HDMI input.
I just would have guessed the media receiver would have included the ability to simply take a digital sound output from an HD-Receiver-Box and pass it out to an A/V receiver. I'm having trouble wrapping my pea-brain around why it wouldn't offer such a feature.
(And if that's the case, it looks like even if we get the HDMI up and running, we'll have to actually use the optical/digital coax out of his HD cable box into the A/V receiver, skipping the media box).
Thanks again.

Nope. Welcome to the world of HDCP. There isn't a plasma out there that will allow you to send a HDMI DD 5.1 signal to it and then pass that signal to another device...HDMI, optical, or digital coax. Think of the MR simply as a input device....not a switcher. If he had a HDMI receiver, he would simply connect his DVD player, HD DVD player ;), PS3, etc into the the receiver and connect one HDMI cable to his plasma for video.
The MR is now a relic with the advent of HDMI receivers. This is another reason Pioneer got rid of it.

The Pioneer MR is simply following HDCP guidelines regarding copyrighted material being passed thru multiple digital devices. I really does suck, but thats the world we live in.

I hate to bring you even more bad news, but even if the MR didn't follow the HDCP guidelines, you still would not be able to pass 5.1 DD from the SA cable box thru HDMI as SA cable boxes have HDCP compatibility issues
R Harkness 08-23-06, 03:49 PM Holy F, D-Nice, that is f#ed up!
How depressing. I hadn't realized HDMI was a one-time, one-way-trip for audio.
So to get 5.1 HD broadcast sound the only option, even when you have HDMI equipment, is taking the digital coax/optical output from your HD-receiver box to your AV receiver? You can't even get that via a straight HDMI connection from the cable box?
Holy Crap.
Next you're gonna tell me there's no Santa Clause.

You have an option to return it to Oppo, less shipping, if it doesn't work out. Personally, I like my 971 on my 1130 and amaze the PQ everytime I watch a DVD.

I'd like to know this as well. I'm definately getting at least a 970, partly because of the HDMI and price, but if the 971 is better, then i may splurge and drop the $50. i AM afraid of the MB issues that the 971 is known for and would like to know if this is a problem with the Pio displays as well. (I've heard MB can be dependant on what display you're feeding with the 971.) so what's the deal Pio owners w/an oppo? i have a 4360 btw.

as i understand it, the 971 doesn't output 480i over DVI. is this important? what settings are you using? any problems with MB?

As I've posted previously in this forum, the c3 modes on the 1130 are flawed and cause problems with the TV. Remote control issues are a problem and c3 will randomly disable functions on your Panel. Your ISF calibrator should have noticed this during your calibration. He would have had better control over the picture settings by adjusting through the user menu. The fact that your panel is in c3 mode indicates that you got a half-assed calibration. c3 should be immediately disabled on your 1130 and your ISF Calibrator owes you a re-calibration. One visit to the ISF forums and he would have seen MULTIPLE threads regarding c3 and it's problems in the 1130.
Let us know how your ISF dude responds.
ssmobin 08-24-06, 02:34 PM Agreed. I just picked up a 971 on Monday and so far I am very impressed with it.

Can you explain more about what problems C3 causes with the TV and remote? I'm aware that C3 disables control over the picture settings for the ISF Day and ISF Night picture modes, but that's sort of the point (they are supposed to be fixed so users don't mess them up accidentially). If there are other things that occur besides the pictures settings for only the ISF Day and Night modes being locked, can you explain (especially regarding the "random" disabling of functions). As I understand C3, I will still have full control over all the other picture modes and the ISF Day and Night settings will be independent for each input.
I would appreciate any more information your willing to provide as I'm planning to have my 1130 calibrated by an ISF technician (including C3 calibration) in about 2 weeks.

When I had my 1130 ISF calibrated, the initial plan was to use the c3 settings and to set up the day and night settings. As my calibrator worked on the c3 modes he started noticing strange side effects of c3 being turned on. For example:
1. Picture controls would become less effective. He would set the greyscale and color accuracy within c3 and then save the settings to the TV. Once you would switch the TV back to, say, pure mode and then back to ISF mode all of the ISF settings would have changed. He would then go back into the ISF setup screen and try to re-calibrate the TV and suddenly he would have extremely limited control over the parameters and wouldn't be able to return the settings to the previous calibrated state. This effect repeated itself multiple times until he finally gave up and calibrated from the user menus. c3 proved to be very unstable. We never figured out what was happening and what was causing it, but when he logged onto the ISF forum, he found reports from other calibrators who had experienced the same strange things on other c3 enabled TVs. This isn't specific to the 1130.
2. When c3 was activated, certain remote functions stopped working. Zoom settings would stop working and, strangely, we even had the power button stop working for a while. Again, he found all of these problems documented on the ISF forum and they are not specific to the 1130, yet other 1130s had suffered the same fate as mine.
The bottom line is, if your calibrator can somehow get c3 to work without all these problems, then more power to you. However, Steve Martin (my local ISF guy) is a nationally known ISF pro who has been in the business for over 10 years and was one of the first people in the country to start using the c3 tools. He's a MIT trained software engineer and definitely knows his stuff. He has had repeated problems with the c3 implementation on a wide variety of products. Some have worked well for him, but the 1130 isn't one of them. Chances are, if Steve can't get it to work, your ISF guy can't either. It is also worth noting that even in the few instances where he was able to gain control over the picture settings in c3 and do an actual calibration, it STILL offered less range than what is offered in the user menus. He was able to get my 1130 so close to perfect on the charts from the user menu that one has to wonder what the heck the purpose of c3 is in the first place.
We wasted HOURS trying to get c3 to work properly. Don't waste your time. Stick with the user menu and have your ISF guy calibrate from the PURE setting. You'll be amazed.
By the way, here are links to two posts about my calibration experience. The first talks about the c3 problems and the second has pictures of the process.

Just wondering what the optimal refresh rate to send to the 5060 from a PC via VGA at 1280x768?
Will HDMI from a PC produce better picture quality vs VGA at native rate?
Thanks, Ben
Generally, you want that option but I have no MB issue w/ mine. My 971 connects to 1130 via HDMI-DVI at 720p Res; Video2; TrueLife: On; and Others: Off; Color/Contrast/Brightness: Default.
I was sold when comparing to Charter LocalHD Channel movies. Hardly can tell the diff in Colors & clarity between the 2. For less than $175 on a refurb (tax/ship included) and great cust srve & prod support, it's a no brainer for me. It serves well as a back-up unit while HDDVD Player sorting out their glitches/format & price.

alright, i think i'll try the 971. i've read back through page 130 i think and everyone who says they have the 971 likes it and hasn't commented on any adverse MB. if the 971 is that much better than the 970, then i'm sold. i also liked the explanation (although obviously biased) on oppo's website regarding the 971 and using the Faroudja to scale rather than the TV. DVD specific scaler and a closer marriage to the DVD player than the tv's scaler and a better pic results....most of the time.
ssmobin 08-25-06, 07:58 PM I also went with the 971 and I have the 1130. So far I have been impressed. I havent seen any MB yet and the picture is very clear for a standard DVD. Good luck with your purchase.

platypus 08-27-06, 01:43 PM I can't get my 4360 to power on!
I disconnected my pre-amp to do some upgrades to it on Wednesday. Reconnected everything this morning and the display won't power on. After pressing the POWER button on the display, the STANDBY light illuminates in red. On the MR, the STANDBY light is also illuminated in red, and the REC TIMER light is illuminated in orange. Not sure why as I've never set up anything to record through the TVGOS system. Pushing the POWER button on the MR doesn't have any effect.
Everything else in my system works as normal. I am getting audio from both DVD and cable sources. For whatever reason, I can't get the display to go out of STANDBY mode.
Any suggestions? This is driving me nuts... :(
Hello All,
I have a pioneer 5060 and seem to have a lot of problems with pixellation during fast motion on all HD channels. The source for the HD channels is a motorolla hd-dvr box from Comcast and is connected via component cable. Is this simply a poor hd source problem or are there some settings I can change or connect the box differently to alleviate this? I also have an up-converting DVD player(HDMI) and xbox 360 (Component) connected that have no problems.
I have searched these forums and cannot find the answer, thanks for any advice.
elvisahmed 08-27-06, 04:44 PM Well sounds like your provider is doing simulcast. Meaning they are not giving the full signal strength to teh HD channels you are watching. Not much the trusty Pio can do there. Basically Junk in Junk out.

I called Pioneer service yesterday to see if they could help. The only suggestion they gave that I hadn't already tried was to unplug both the display and MR and leave them unplugged for 30 minutes so they could "reset." The rep told me if that didn't work , then I would need to call an authorized service provider and have them come check it out. The 30-minute unplugging didn't work, so hopefully I can get a service rep out here soon.

Jediphish 08-28-06, 12:22 PM I've had my 1130HD for 10 days and have noticed that when I'm watching HD on the display the Media Reciever gets really HOT after a while. I have it inside a cabinet with about 4 inches room on either side, 6 inches behind and 6-8 inches above. I try to keep the doors open to let it ventilate because it gets so hot, but the entire point of the cabinet was to hide the box. If I'm watching SD material (output at 480i) it doesn't seem to get as hot (I'm guessing the processor is not working as hard).
Anyway, I'm trying to determine if this is just normal or if it is something I needed to be concerned about. It gets really HOT. Could the fans not be working? I don't hear them as others have posted in discussions about fans. Is there a way to check the fans?

There are settings posted by DNice for the Pio's and Elite's(you didn't specify) if you read a few pages back. Most people here agree that you should use Break-In settings for at least 200hrs. Sorry I don't know how to post a link to the settings.
MikeMartell 08-29-06, 10:15 AM Just picked up a Demo 4360 from BB for a little over 2K CDN.
Panel and MR are of September and August 2005 manufacture date respectively.
Very, very slight burn-in (I think?) where the banner cuts through the bottom of the screen from that loop they send to all their televisions, all but un-noticeable except for very bright screens and really only if you're looking for it. Haven't demo'd it with a hockey game yet though :)
Tried unsuccessfully many times to find the panel hours but couldn't enter service mode UNTIL I turned off the TVGOS. Got in first time after.
The panel has about 3500 hours on it (wow, almost 10 months of 12 hour days..), or about 5% of its half-brightness, heavy usage but it appears to be in good shape.
Is this a no-brainer ? Should I return this and look for something else ??

Pestana 08-29-06, 10:16 AM Hi people, I have a 4360 post break-in at 300+ hours.

Not tons of info on the new Elites yet, but it will have more adjustable tweaks than the 5070. Also it will have a 2 year warranty as opposed to a one year. Last year's stand was nicer than the 5060's.
It comes down to money - if you can close the gap between the two, go for the 1140.

See above post about posting prices.
If it were me, I'd return it as I'm sure it wasn't broken in properly. I guess it comes down to whether or not the price difference is worth it to you. If it is just image retention, you might be able to "wash" it away with full screen viewing, but if it is actually burn in, I'd definitely look for a new one.

I also have a 4360 - I am VERY happy with it!
Let us know if the IR fades or if it is infact burn-in - how long do you have until the return period runs out?
I would try to put a couple hundred full screen hours on it to see if the IR fades - if not, you might wanna return it.
I paid almost twice what you did to get a new one from BB in Toronto back in May, but I like the idea of breaking in the unit myself.
Having said that, if yours ends up not having burn-in, it is probably worth keeping it.
According to Pioneer you'll get another 57,000 hours out of it :P

Not tons of info on the new Elites yet, but it will have more adjustable tweaks than the 5070. Also it will have a 2 year warranty as opposed to a one year. Last year's stand was nicer than the 5060's.
It comes down to money - if you can close the gap between the two, go for the 1140.
Also you might check out this thread on the 7g Pios:

The Elite 940/1140 manual is available on Pioneer's website. Additional picture settings aside, the Elites have built in "Media Center Extender"(Home Gallery) capabilities. You can stream video, audio, and pictures over your home network straight into the panel. Home Gallery alone makes the price difference worth it IMO.

WOW - that is really cool. I have to get my 1130 up and running before I can sell it though! ;).
Seriously, we bought the 1130 for the long term. But this is a nice feature that someday we could use no doubt. Are your 1130s on eBay yet? ;)

I remember discussion last year in this thread about folks complaining that the fans were too loud and were running all the time. I wonder if Pioneer turned them down to decrease noise. You should be able to determine if they are running by checking out the MR closely. If they aren't, then yea, I would definitely get it replaced.
At least it's easier than replacing the panel!

No not yet....gotta negotiate "plasma upgades" first ;)

It might not be if there are no MRs available...
Seeing as the MR is a feature that is discontinued, I worry that if any of us have problems down the road we may be forced to have the whole panel replaced, which would suck!

I'm a bit worried about that as well, but worst case you would get a new gen panel without the MR. Usually they will hold back stock for this exact scenario; my guess is they will have MRs available at least a year or two until the 6g warranties expire.

Being in the dark in my current situation is driving me up the wall. I think that I may need a new MR, but the service rep I spoke to yesterday told me that Pio's policy for the xx60 series is that the MRs must be repaired, not replaced. When I described my symptons, he seemed puzzled and said he'd have to get back to me after talking to Pio technical staff. Said he'd never heard of a situation like mine before. Meanwhile, here I sit with a $3K blank screen. :(

Full network connectivity is great feature that I look forward to, but I'm not sure I would want to have it built into my TVs. The wireless networking area is so dynamic and there are so many issues with HDCP that I'm counting on an external box for each of my HDTVs that is purchased specifically for compatibility with a particular Media Center. Is this not the way things are supposed to be headed?

-Biscuit- 08-29-06, 09:33 PM Biscuit,
There are settings posted by DNice for the Pio's and Elite's(you didn't specify) if you read a few pages back. Most people here agree that you should use Break-In settings for at least 200hrs. Sorry I don't know how to post a link to the settings.
Found it. Thanks.
Also got into my menu and noticed that the time meter has 04018H02M
Which doesn't make sense b/c I've only had the TV since Feb. Does the factory put some hours on the TV before it leaves there? I bought it new from an Auth Pioneer dealer called Invision Displays out of Seattle.
Any thoughts on this? I know I havent watched 4000hrs on the TV thus far.
Its been to the service place once and they havent mentioned anything like it was used, etc. Thanks.

I believe you are looking at the main time - this relates to how long the system has been plugged in... not sure what good that info is.
To get the actual "panel on time" do the following once in the service menu:
Press MUTE (3 times to go to “PANEL FACTS”) and press SELECT.
Press DOWN (1 time) to page through each menu (for instance, to see the multiple pages that make up the INFORMATION section).
“HR-MTR” = the panel time

so what is the reason for that? is the signal from the Oppo not aligned propperly?

Correct.... I've never seen a source that didn't require alignment correction.
ssmobin 08-30-06, 12:30 PM can I use those 971 settings on my 1130 or do you recommend different settings?
I just picked up a 971 last week and am very happy with it so far. I havent changed any settings yet, just plugged it in and changed the ouput signal to 1080i on the oppo.

Well, the service rep called me back this morning after speaking to Pio's technical staff. They gave him a suggestion, which he passed on to me, to try and isolate the problem to either the MR or the panel. He said that the system cable (black and white) was ruled out since neither of the lights on my panel or the MR were flashing.
So, he told me to unplug the system cable from either the MR or the panel. If the panel is still good he said the lights on the front should alternate flashing blue and red. Then he told me to use the power button on the remote. The panel should come on (with the relay switch clearly audible), and I should see alternating, flashing blue and red squares on the screen. If all this went as described, then the problem would be isolated to the MR.
When I got home tonight I followed his steps. I was keeping my fingers crossed that it would go as planned and that the panel itself wasn't hosed. Sure enough, the sequencing went exactly as described. I'll need to call the service rep back tomorrow and tell him. He mentioned today that if the problem was indeed the MR, then Pio told him to order up a new main board and replace it. He said it should only take a day or so.
So keep your fingers crossed that I can get out of this one without too much more down time. The missus has been giving me a hard time since she can't record the US Open matches on the DVR. :o
On another note, given the way Pio handles warranty support through these outsourced service providers, I would definitely consider an extended warranty from the dealer if I were to purchase a Pio product again in the future. As pricey as they are, it would save a lot of headache. I'm thinking that a store like BB (where I bought mine from) would have just come in and replaced the whole set with a new one (and in this case, perhaps a 4270).
WilliWu 08-31-06, 12:17 AM It took the Pio tech less than thirty minutes to replace the main board and fans in my MR. Good luck.
NemoZorro 08-31-06, 11:45 AM Thanks for sharing that sequence; I'm gonna copy and paste it into my large and still growing tips and tricks file for these TVs. Hope things work out without too much hassle.
I went back and forth on the extended warranty for the 1130 - eventually we decided against it; hope that wasn't a mistake......:)
ssmobin 08-31-06, 12:41 PM I bought my TV from a stand alone magnolia store (not within BB, it was a separate store before BB bought them and they left this location open) and picked up the 4-year in home warranty with the TV. For the amount of money I spent I wanted to be sure I protected my investment 'just in case'. Hope everything works out for you Platy.
Jediphish 08-31-06, 04:04 PM Okay TheDeliverator, where's the guide you promised you were going to produce? I for one would love to have all of the actual tips from this thread in one file, so if you have completed it, please share. Thanks!!
Gentlemen, I wanted to say as so many others have previously...
**EDIT**
I believe that D-Nice and others who have been long time contributors to this thread have the expertise to produce a Noob Guide more quickly and efficiently, but I do have the time so I figured I'd offer.

bosorio 08-31-06, 08:14 PM Does anyone know what the deal is with the Pro-1140HD?
Its on Pioneers website, but doesnt list a price, and none of the major retailers have it.
I searched for it on google, and a few off-the-wall sounding places popped up that have it listed for $4500. Which seems too cheap for a brand new model Pioneer Elite.
Any info is appreciated.
russwong 09-01-06, 03:18 PM Wohoo, now where do I start?
MSRP is $5500, but I got a great deal.
Any advice on what I should or shouldn't do? I've ready about a million posts on here, so if anyone has good settings that might be a good start.
Looking for D-Nice break in settings, but I think that was for another model.

Where should I post it? I didn't see an owners thread... create a new one or just add on to here?
russwong,
What is your setup? Cable TV/Sat (brand of STB), DVD player? HD DVD player? BD player?
russwong 09-01-06, 04:13 PM russwong,

XBOX360
russwong 09-01-06, 04:15 PM I could have gotten the PRO-FHD1 for $2500 more, knowing that I got the 1140HD for a steal, I almost went for the 1080p, but because the 1140 has the media capabilities, that made me swing over to the 1140... plus I set about 9'-10' feet away....
russwong 09-01-06, 04:31 PM How come on the box it says don't lay the plasma flat, but then in the instructions for the stand, it says, lay the plasma flat to screw the stand on to the plasma....
Maybe it's just during transportation?

russwong 09-01-06, 05:03 PM Pretty cheap looking remote, but what's cool is it has distinct buttons for each input it would seem, so you don't have to keep pressing display to get to an input. Good for discrete codes it would seem.
I'll post pictures eventually....
Is there way to disable the inputs so when you use the 2nd remote you get with the 5071 and hit the input button you do not need to cycle thru all 6 inputs and the Antenna "A" and "B". My old Panne you could select each input and name and change a status to "skip" and the when you cycled thru the inputs the unused ones would be skipped
Thanks

Looking for D-Nice break in settings, but I think that was for another model.I hear distributors in the West are overstocked on the 1130 because people who had deposits on them backed out after waiting forever until they came. I was almost one of them. It probably could be gotten for $4500 if anyone is interested in making a deal with retailers.
Jediphish 09-02-06, 08:23 AM Since I didn't get much in the way of a reply to my question, can the users of the 1130HD here at least do me a favor and feel your MRs after you've been watching and HD channel for a while and tell me whether it gets its hotter than when you're watching and SD channel or DVD (regular DVD)? Any descriptions of how hot it gets would be appreciated. Thanks.
I've had my 1130HD for 10 days and have noticed that when I'm watching HD on the display the Media Reciever gets really HOT after a while.
Does the build date of the box matter? Was there a problem that Pioneer has fixed in more recent boxes?
Thanks in advance.
Last night I was watching tv on my 930HD and on the upper right hand corner of the screen the Input box wouldnt go away. If I switch to a HD channel it will update to 1080 and the word full will go green and the box will disappear. When I go back to a std def channel it will say 480, the word full stays white and the box stays on the screen. I have a S.A 8300HD cable box.
This is all new. I have had the setup since Dec. with no problems
Thanks for any help here.

That might be an exaggeration... ;)
I have the 4360, but the MR is about the same right?
Anyway - mine gets pretty warm, but I wouldn't say "hot".
The fan speed never seems to change. although it is always on, even on standby which bugs the hel out of me.
russwong 09-02-06, 11:41 AM Initial impressions are pretty good so far. The Media capabilites are very easy to setup.
Here is a picture of the box and the menu item...
Apologize for the picture quality, I'll work on getting better pictures...
russwong 09-02-06, 11:42 AM What was kinda cool, was that the pioneer actually did a wake on lan command to turn on my computer remotely when I went into the media menu. Pretty cool!
russwong 09-02-06, 11:43 AM Once again, sorry for the poor picture quality...

Random thoughts in no particular order....
1. Love the media capabilities.
2. Still need to figure out what it can and can't play. Have had some files come back with unable to play content.
3. Remote looks cheap and I don't like the red backlight, but not that important, because I have a pronto.
4. Remote has discrete buttons for each input, which is awesome. You don't have to cycle through each input to get to the one you want.
5. Set up the TV guide thing, seemed pretty simple, haven't used it.
6. Blacks look black.
7. Question about Geometry.... seemed like something that was supposed to be a circle looked like an oval, I'll have to try again with something else. Thoughts?
8. Stand looks kinda cheap, but will eventually wall mount so not a big deal.
9. HD Picture, especially Discovery HD looks awesome!
10. No clues about all these menu setting options, but default setting is Standard and I switched to Pure.
11. Played XBOX360 for about 2 hours and didn't notice any image retention... keeping my fingers crossed. (will get some pictures...)
Speaking of pictures, any recommendations on how the hell to take a decent picture? I thought I knew what to do, but clearly I was wrong... will try some other things. Once I get pictures I'm proud to post, I'll create an owners thread...
russwong 09-02-06, 01:19 PM Any advice on how to take pictures would be great...

That may actually be the case....my new 1130 is being delivered tomorrow in Orange County, CA for $400 less than what you mentioned in your post. The price was out the door and included tax and delivery. I has called many stores before finding this small authorized dealer(per pioneers website) who had extra in their inventory...they didn't hassle me at all and the deal was done in about 15 minutes and they gave me next day delivery. Yippee!
NemoZorro 09-04-06, 12:33 PM russwong, I'm jealous
Me too! russwong - great shots; don't worry about the quality. Much smaller box than the 1130, course it had the MR and speakers in a separate box inside.
Congrats on your new toy, and please keep us informed.

masterstyx 09-05-06, 09:55 AM I've read earlier in the forum that some people use the Service Menu Test Patters to help break-in the set or wash out IR. NemoZorro 09-05-06, 01:07 PM For all those reading here that appreciate the work D-Nice has done in providing some starting settings, I think it would be a good idea to let him know - maybe send him a PM.
Chriscart1 09-05-06, 01:31 PM I bought one of the last 4360's in town at Best Buy back in june with a $200 rebate so it ran me about $2800+ tax.
I love the TV and am glad I went with the 4360 instead of the newer 4270 because:
1. mine is an inch bigger (last of the 43" Pioneers I guess?)
2. comes with the media box (I've got so much crap going into mine- component, HDMI, optical audio, VGA etc. that it would have been an eyesore if they all went to the display)
3. the speakers were removable unlike the 4270 which has them intergrated (I haven't used the speakers on a TV in 8 years or something so I hocked them on ebay for $100!)
4. and finally it was about $700 cheaper!
but there are a few things that aren't perfect about it:
1. ugly ass table top stand. I HATE silver.. cheapens the whole thing but I'm glad it also came with a wall mount incase I want to mount it that way one of these days.
I even called up Pioneer to see if the newer black stands or the black Elite stands would work but I guess they wouldn't fit right. I'm considering just getting a spare one off ebay and getting it painted gloss black.
2. front game A/V inputs on the MR.... really strange why the game inputs have to go into the front... and the inputs on the back DON'T WORK for my Xbox either (I tried)... really strange.
3. Gigantic heavy remote- while the seperate A/V input buttons are great and its also great that it automatically controls my Pioneer audio receiver I'm not a big fan of the remote... you'd think a $3,000 TV would have a little slicker remote but I guess not.
4. No white wash or pixel refresh option- must have saved it for the Elites? I guess I'm just stuck with keeping it on the "Game" setting and "Power Save 1" options when I'm gaming in order to avoid burn-in. periodically I also make a giant white screen in Photoshop via my VGA cable and let that fill the screen for a few minutes to even things out.
but overall I'm pretty happy with it. I liked the look of the older Pio's from 5 years ago or so that just had a thin graphite colored frame around them instead of the thick gloss black "picture frame" around mine but overall I'm pretty happy.
I'm no A/V expert either and this is my first HDTV so I can't comment much on how it looks other than "awesome!".
sabre223 09-05-06, 02:21 PM Hi ,
I have a 4340........after about a week of researching and finding that it would work, I put a PRO 910 Black Piano stand and Pro speakers on without any issues.......I shopped around ebay carefully and did those upgrades for a total of 58.00 that included shipping !!! everything was Brand new in the box.........take your time and shop carefully.
The pro stand is normally around 325.00 and speakers aorund 165.00 if memory srves me correctly.
Mine looks awesome. :D
Hope this helps :)

Hats off to him for all his detailed knowledge and his willingness to share! :)For all those reading here that appreciate the work D-Nice has done in providing some starting settings, I think it would be a good idea to let him know - maybe send him a PM.

I have no idea what stand would actually fit mine.... I assume the stand that comes with the 43" Elite model would but I talked to a tech at Pioneer on the phone and he said otherwise... he said the new ones don't fit and the Elites don't fit either but those guys don't know everything... if anyone has any idea what BLACK table top stand would fit my PDP-4360 that would really help me out a lot.

Absolutely agreed - the 7g thread took a bad turn and I just thought we should share a little love for the man! I hope that in our pettiness we haven't driven him off.

BlondeSicilian 09-05-06, 04:52 PM Hi All,
Newbie here. I have my 1130 scheduled for delivery and installation this Thursday, to be mounted above my fireplace in my new condo.
One thing I am considering is using the speakers in the 1130 as my center channel speaker as opposed to the Polk center channel speaker I was using in my previous 5.1 setup. The reason is twofold: 1. Asthetics - it would look a lot better without a speaker sitting on the mantle and 2. Viewing angle - I the TV would have to be placed higher above the fireplace than I'd want to make room for the center channel.
My question is, has anyone used the speakers on the 1130 as a center channel with success? How is the sound quality? Since I'm in a apartment building, I won't be playing many loud sound tracks so I'm not TOO concerned with power output. I am a little concerned with sound quality and the fact that the center channel would no longer match my other Polk speakers.
Thoughts? Opinions? Suggestions?
Thanks in advance!!

The 1130 speakers are better than most regular tv speakers, but still will fail in comparison to any decent seperates.
I used my 1130 speakers as a center channel while trying to find a deal on an Omni-CC (Mirage Center channel speaker) and it was ok, but after I got used to having 4 Omni 50's for the corners and a Pioneer 74txvi for the receiver, I eventually just when to 4.1 mode until I bought my Omni CC for the center.
Endgame-- it will work, it is just how long you can stand it, and how much adjustability your receiver has to compensate for sounding different from your other speakers. It definitely is not a permanent solution for anyone concerned about quality sound.
russwong 09-05-06, 05:58 PM That may actually be the case....my new 1130 is being delivered tomorrow in Orange County, CA for $400 less than what you mentioned in your post. The price was out the door and included tax and delivery. I has called many stores before finding this small authorized dealer(per pioneers website) who had extra in their inventory...they didn't hassle me at all and the deal was done in about 15 minutes and they gave me next day delivery. Yippee!
That's about the price I got the 1140HD for, so in my mind, it was a no brainer to get the newer panel. Now if you want the media box, the 1130 is the way to go, but for me with the network connectivity and the new panel, makes it feel like it's not outdated the minute I take it out of the box. It should be out dated in about 2 more days..... :)
OK. I'm 2 weeks into life with my first plasma TV, a Pioneer 4360. Thanks go out to all of the folks who have listed their break-in settings and tips. Here are my newbie observations:
I am running through a Comcast Motorola box that was set-up the first week with regular RCA cables. Analog channels were nice, HD channels very nice. This week I changed over to an HDMI cable. To my eye, the analog channels now have a lower resolution. The HD channels however are fantastic! I can really see a difference. Also watched the full frame version of Finding Nemo on CD and was blown away. The color, the clarity are simply outstanding. And this is just on a GoVideo progressive scan machine. I guess my only questions at this point are: Does anyone else notice a difference in analog with RCA vs HDMI cables? Does anyone have both hooked up and switch between the two?
Chriscart1 09-06-06, 12:00 AM bump for my stand question.
thanks guys
Last night I was watching tv on my 930HD and on the upper right hand corner of the screen the Input box wouldnt go away. If I switch to a HD channel it will update to 1080 and the word full will go green and the box will disappear. When I go back to a std def channel it will say 480, the word full stays white and the box stays on the screen. I have a S.A 8300HD cable box.
This is all new. I have had the setup since Dec. with no problems
Thanks for any help here.

The stand you want is the 6th gen Elite stand (model no. PDK-1013). It's the same stand whether it's for a 43" or 50" display. Pay no mind to what the rep at Pio told you. I got mine (NIB) on ebay for $11 plus shipping.
See here for pics of my 4360 with the Elite swivel stand. Looks much better than the silver stand that came with the display. Plus, I take advantage of the swivel feature since I sit at an angle to the display.

So when you do find out, please post back to help out any future owners who run into the same thing.

FloridaTV 09-07-06, 03:27 PM Quick question, the new 1140 has the "Media Center Extender". What would you use this for, getting digital photos from the hard drive on the screen? Can I buy a wireless link, and it will seemlessly integrate in my network?
Thanks.
Jediphish 09-08-06, 07:00 PM I've had my 1130 running for about 3 weeks now. I've taken great care in keeping the settings low during the first 200 hours. Today, when we turned on the set, there is a sold black stripe, about 1-2 inches high, that extends across the horizontal mid-line of the display. It goes all the way from the left bezel to the right bezel. It is there when no matter what input or resolution. If I shift the picture position, the black band/line does not move. Can you get this many dead pixels? I've called Pioneer and they tell me they've never heard of this problem and to schedule a service repair to see if they can fix it, but all the service agents are closed for the weekend.
Has anyone ever seen this occur before? I did a search on this thread but did not get any hits.
Your help in diagnosing this problem is appreciated.

If it is just black, all I can think to do is verify the cables have not come loose at the back of the plasma and MR. Otherwise I think a service appt is required.
You are right, that issue has never come up here before that I am aware of. Sucks that it was on a Friday too.
Let us know how things go.
Jediphish 09-08-06, 07:37 PM I've verified that it's not the cables. I'm using commercial 25 foot DVI-I and Data cables, which are run through the walls. I've disconnected those and connected the cable that is supplied by pioneer (which meant I had to pull the MR out of the cabinet). Same result. So, it's not the cables. Something makes me think its not the Media Receiver Either.
If I get real close to the screen, the pixels are active = they are sort of crawling. When there's no signal being fed, so that the screen is just black, the horizontal stripe appears to be green-black, instead of just black. The crawling is more noticable nearer to the sides than it is in the middle.
This blows.
Who should I look to more - Pioneer, through their service agents, or my dealer? I've had it less than 30 days. They did not delivery and install it, but they know the installer who did very well (he's a reputable installer). The dealer's stock of 1130's was pretty low when I got mine. Should I pressure them to give me a brand new one? This may be a pointless question.
Chriscart1 09-08-06, 07:56 PM have you guys started seeing the new Pioneer TV commercials yet?
I noticed a few of them when I was watching the Steelers game last night.
pretty cool. reminds me of about 5 years ago when they started running those Pure Vision commericals on TV all the time. I haven't seen that logo on TV in forever.
now I actually own one! :D
I've actually got a 4360 but it looks just like the ones on TV (with the exception of the nice black stand the new ones get. oh yeah and the stupid intergrated speakers under the panel ;) ).

Replace your 4360 stand with a black Elite stand as many of us have. It fits, looks great, swivels, and can often be found on ebay for less than $50. The model number for the Elite stand is: PDK-1013.

Get the 1140HD!! It's got a newer panel and has media capabilities that let you hook it to your network and stream video, music, and pictures!
It doesn't have the media receiver though, but it can take a 1080p input!

You can use it to view pictures, play music, or even stream video like HD recordings.
Yes you can do it via wireless, but it depends on the quality of your network and what you stream, as wireless has latency and is slower then wired. I use 10/100 wired to do my connectivity, but I don't see why you couldn't use a good G wireless (might not work for HD streaming).

My dealer gave me a new media receier to try today and, unfortunately, it did not fix the problem. So, its not the cables, it's not the media receiver, which means it can only be the panel. :( Given that they opened another box to give me this media receiver, I'm pretty sure they're going to give me a new panel now, but I'm waiting to hear back from them. At least they are working with me.
I took some pictures and would like to post them, but the last time I tried, it wanted a link or something - not the picture file. Can I not post the actual pictures?
I will update as I know more.
UPDATE: Dealer gave me brand new panel and MR. Downside is that I have to start my break-in all over again. Upside is that I no longer have a 2 inch black strip dividing my screen in two. Overall - considering I just discovered the problem last night and now I have a new set on the wall only 24 hours later, I'm not to upset with the defect. Props to my dealer for doing the right thing.

Well 1130 is a thing of beauty for sure and has been acclaimed universally. Also it comes with added convenience (for some) of an external media receiver (big value for me) and a lot more toggle options like special menu for ISF caliberation, Picture setting etc (didn't mean much as D-Nice settings rule :) ) so I went for teh no elite 4360. But if those features aren't of any value to your setup I would go for a newer set which is the 5070. It can accept 1080P input via HDMI (if that is a value feature that remains to be seen as curret Blu ray line up is nothing to write home about)
Hope this helped.
This is a perfect example why buy at a local authorized dealer. Electronics do break and cust srvs can make a world difference, like what your dealer has done. Enjoy your fine plasma.

Highly recommended 1130 If you currently have less than a 50"-size screen. Price may come down a bit since the new model came out and some dealers may overstock their inventories. 1130 has good PQ right out of the box and with D-Nice's settings, the HD PQ is just mesmerizing.
Cheers,

I'll take that a step further and say that with Pio, the extended warranty would be a good option. I'm over 2 weeks down now and still without resolution. The tech came out on Thursday to swap the main board in the MR. After doing so, he upgraded the software but said that the upgrade process didn't appear to go as planned (not the correct sequence of blinking lights). When we plugged the MR back into the system, the plasma turned on, which was a positive sign because it wouldn't come out of standby before the fix, but the display wouldn't come out of the "plasma warming up" screen. The tech was baffled and ended up taking my MR back to his office for further troubleshooting. I didn't hook up with him on Friday but spoke to someone else at his office who said that another part had been ordered for me. So I continue to sit and wait...
BTW, my unit was purchased from a local dealer (BB), but it was back in June and hence past the 30-day return window. I'm thinking that if I had ponied up the $$ for the EW, BB would have already given me a new unit (perhaps a 4270).

Fantastic news. Sounds like a real nasty problem in the screen.
We had a thin (on or two pixel width) vertical line similar to yours on our 3g panel. Never did get it to go away, although Pio tried several times. We had purchased ours on a non authorized website, and I guess it was before Pio decided not to warranty them. We were probably lucky we got as much service as we did. They offered to replace it, but they would only give us what we paid as credit towards a new one, which at the time was a significant difference.
Anyway, glad all is good and props to your dealer!
I want to use the VGA input to get native rate from my Macbook Pro, but I am overwhelmed by all these adjustments such as overscan/underscan, H-size, V-size, etc.
I would really appreciate it if someone could summarise this for me and tell me if I will get native rate from simply specifying my Macbook Pro to output 1280x768 (and for that matter, what refresh rate should be specified?), or are these resolution adjustments for overscan/underscan (I don't understand what these mean) required?
Thanks, Ben

They sorta touch on differences between the old and the new.

Xbox360 can do it when connecting to a Windows Media Center PC.
Jediphish 09-13-06, 08:18 AM Has anyone been successful in getting the Auto Size (to 4:3) feature to work on the 1130HD on signals coming from a DirecTV HR10-250 (at 480i via HDMI) or an OPPO 970HD (at 480i via HDMI)?
Based on my experience with a 30" Sony HD CRT, I thought that when either the DirecTivo or the Oppo DVD player sent 4:3 material at 480i that the Pioneer PDP would detect it and display it in 4:3 OAR? However, so far, my 1130HD defaults to FULL whenever it receives a 480i signal from either box. There are work-arounds in both of the boxes, but I'd still like to know why this feature on the PDP doesn't work as expected? I don't have an antenna connected to the Media Receiver, but I'm guessing that the feature probably does work on internally tuned signals, but shouldn't it work on any signal?
To be sure, I have turned on the Auto Size feature in the Options menu and have tried Auto and Fixed sidebars. And, I'm positive that I'm sending a 480i signal (as I want the Pioneer to do the processing to 768p). Also, I'm aware that I shouldn't display 4:3 material in its OAR very often during the break-in period. Also, I'm aware of the various screen size options for stretching, so no need to suggest those as alternatives.
Any ideas? If it matters, I'm using the Pure picture mode.

How long do you guys keep your boxes? I bought my 1130HD last October, I think, and of course it has a two-year warrantee. But those boxes are using up a ton of storage in my garage. Do I really need them? I have no intention of selling this thing on e-bay or something like that.
Thanks,
Andy
Delivery guys hauled it away after finished setting up. Just make sure you get everything out, such as 2 adapter cards, before tossing it away.
Cheers,
TP.

Jediphish 09-17-06, 04:49 PM Has anyone been successful in getting the Auto Size (to 4:3) feature to work on the 1130HD on signals coming from a DirecTV HR10-250 (at 480i via HDMI) or an OPPO 970HD (at 480i via HDMI)?
So, has anyone had success using Auto Size? I continue to play with it and get nothing but weird results. If my HDTivo is outputting 1080i (with an actual HD signal) and I switch the PDP to the internal tuner and then back to Input 3 (D* Tivo box connected via HDMI) it changes the aspect to WIDE. This isn't even supposed to be an auto option, as far as I can tell.
I guess I'll just have to turn off the feature and continue to make the adjustments myself. Downside to this is that FULL is a terrible mode for watching anything except 16:9 HD or anamorphic DVDs. Everything else looks horrible in the linear stretch mode. For 4:3 upconverted shows on 720p or 1080i channels, I like to use WIDE (non-linear stretch). For 4:3 on 480i channels I like to use Cinema (or sometiimes WIDE). For 4:3 letterboxed shows (Fine Living, Travel Channel, MTV), I like to use ZOOM. Eventually, after 300 hours I may watch some 4:3 material in 4:3, but looks like I'll have to select it manually, since the auto feature is worthless.
Seems like the TV ought to be able to do at least some of this. :(

pughmat 09-18-06, 06:16 PM About 4 months ago I had a local shop install a home theater for me. I elected to go with the 930HD. They came and did everything, stereo, tv, remote, speakers, etc. I love the set up. However, I'm sure with the media receiver and other functions of the tv, I can do a lot more than watch TV. I was given the cards, but haven't tried to use them yet either. My biggest problem is I don't know what I don't know. Please tell me what I'm missing out on?

They just allow you to view your digital photographs on your panel. Just remove the digital card from your camera and slide it into the appropriate media card that came with the panel. Insert the media card into the slot in the media receiver and enjoy seeing your photos on your pane. You probably want to use the slideshow at 3 sec intervals. I'm sure everyone would caution you not to leave a photo on as a static image.

How do you "fold up" the Styrofoam inserts? ;)
Moving the screen in the box with out those, will simply hide the cracked glass :p
In all seriousness, I didn't bother saving the box, because that would have meant saving the styrofoam, and that crap is very bulky.

In all seriousness, I didn't bother saving the box, because that would have meant saving the styrofoam, and that crap is very bulky.I never mentioned to fold the styrofoam. Besides, it's light enough to hang in the garage.
If you believe that moving the screen without the foam will crack the glass, is it logical to think that moving the screen without the box and foam will not crack the glass?
Let's say you throw away the foam, why couldn't you substitute fabric as insulation? The box will help hold it all together.
I've always kept every box for every major electronics. With the TV, you'll either give it away to a relative, move to a new place or sell it. In any case, it's a certainty it will be moved one day.
Chriscart1 09-20-06, 02:03 PM I only kept the box my 4360 came in and the foam sheets and inserts and stuff.
the bigger exterior box that the MR, stands and speakers came in I threw out but I figured I'd atleast keep the one box the display came in for when it was time to move.
ssmobin 09-20-06, 02:22 PM I wanted to keep the box but I didnt have any room in my apartment, plus the gf hounded me every day for about 3 weeks after I set it up about when I was going to throw the boxes away lol
When I move I will just wrap it carefully in blankets and transport it separately from all the other furniture in my own vehicle.
platypus 09-20-06, 04:18 PM Still no good news regarding my situation yet. My service rep called me Monday and told me that he had good news - the media receiver was finally up and running on their test display after changing the digital tuner board (this was in addition to already replacing the main board.) He came out on Monday evening to fire it up at my house. Dead. Nothing. No picture. Same symptoms as when I started. Neither the display nor the MR would come out of standby.
He took the MR and my black/white system cable back to his shop. Sure enough, the MR fired up and was functioning with both my system cable and their system cable. So now he thinks I may have a problem with the display itself. :(
I'm awaiting a call from him this evening with an update. Apparently, he's been in contact with Pio tech support.

My display4360 doesn't want to start up. It keeps getting worse and worse. The trouble started off at first by turning off all of the sudden. Then when a week later it started acting up when I turned it on. The display stars up by showing "Staring up. Please wait." I will stay like that for a while till I unplug the power cord from back of the MR.
Now when I turn on the TV, same display comes out but the TV turns off after 30 sec or more. I unplug the power from the back and still get the same display.
How can I reset the MR to factory setting/defaults?

Malvoe1 09-21-06, 09:53 AM Last night I was watching tv on my 930HD and on the upper right hand corner of the screen the Input box wouldnt go away. If I switch to a HD channel it will update to 1080 and the word full will go green and the box will disappear. When I go back to a std def channel it will say 480, the word full stays white and the box stays on the screen. I have a S.A 8300HD cable box.
I had the same problem. I am guessing you have your TV on autodetect for aspect ratio. Turn that off and your problem will be fixed. I also have an SA8300 box, and the autodetect used to work perfectly. Then one day I turned it on, the firmware was updated, and I had the blue box that wouldn't go away. Took me forever to figure out the problem. Unfortunately, now when I turn on the TV and it is tuned to ESPN, there are black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. I have to change channels and then turn it back to ESPN to get them to go away. Some upgrade.

jasper1977 09-21-06, 01:45 PM I want to use the VGA input to get native rate from my Macbook Pro, but I am overwhelmed by all these adjustments such as overscan/underscan, H-size, V-size, etc.
Thanks, Ben
I have my iMac G5 connected to my 506XDE via vga and use 1280x720 resolution on the plasma instead of the native 1280x768 of the pioneer. I'm using these settings in SwitchRes (it fills the entire screen without overscan and it is perfect! the desktop, menubar and dock are shown without 1 pixel overscan):

As you can see I pretty much eyeballed it pretty good since I got it on the Contrast, and Brightness. I was shocked at how much I was off on the color, but I guess I'm used to seeing my colors washed out.
Now I need to buy a SPL meter and do the sound portion.
platypus 09-22-06, 12:13 PM I'm glad to report that my display is finally back up and running. The service rep came by last night and brought another customer's media receiver. We hooked it up, and sure enough, the display powered on and he was able to access the service menu. He then did a master reset which affected both the MR and the display. After doing this, we hooked my MR back up, and he was able to get into the service menu and do the reset again on both my MR and display. This solved the problems and got me back up and running. The only thing I had to do was reconfigure my picture and power settings since they had all reverted to the factory defaults.
Part of the problem we were having was that with my MR, he was unable to get the display to turn on and out of standby. Somehow, my MR and display were locked up and frozen. It took the action of using another customer's MR to get us past that hurdle. I did have a faulty board in the MR, but it was the digital tuner board and not the main board.
My display4360 doesn't want to start up. It keeps getting worse and worse. The trouble started off at first by turning off all of the sudden. arcyallen 09-23-06, 03:37 PM Has anyone seen this console? It's awesome. When we got our Samsung 50" plasma, my wife said OK, but she really didn't want to see it. The Samsung didn't let it go all the way down, but when I changed it out for the 5060 (SO much better) it was perfect. It comes with an RF remote, which lets you put it up or down. Many of the front panels are removeable, and come with glass, wood, or speaker grill panels. My center sits below the screen. It was a grand cheaper than the $2500 models I've seen in magazines. It also has a neat little light above the equipment that turns on via touching the right hinge on the main doors. Cool stuff!

All cables which go to attic and speakers are in this outlet. This is why I wanted the 5060 with media receiver where all these connections go to the media rack, not to plasma panel way up on the wall. Notice cat5e cable which will enable GigaBit Ethernet file sharing with my other two PCs. All 3 PCs have DTV tuner cards for HDTV recording and playback.

Lifting the panel into place. I borrowed the electric lift from my company. Notice that I used the bottom box and packing material from the shipping container. The plasma panel was already attached to the mount when this photo was taken. We had people on ladders, holding the panel while the panel was being raised into position.

DonPGood job. But, it's too high for me. For me in the living room, I prefer the set below my eye level. Whenever I have to raise my eyes and head to view for a long time, I get a headache. It's too much strain for the eyes. This is why I lean away from the wall/fireplace type setup. In the bedroom when lying down, the wall type setup actually works, except if you like to game once in awhile (eye strain), which I doubt you are anyways.
Couple questions.
I hooked up my 4360 and I was amazed at the pic quality obvisously. But then I noticed something. Earlier in the thread I saw pics showing the different viewing modes and in those angles being showed, the input display on the screen also indicated what type of resolution was coming through. Mine has been blank...have I hooked up something wrong....have I been getting HD content at all...Yikes
Also...my daughter is now tall enough to touch the screen and has. Any product to purchase or at home that can clean hand smudges and not just dust (like the one that came with the set)
Thanks to all
pattymac88 09-26-06, 10:30 PM I bought a 1130HD within the last month and have found this site/thread very informative - especially the settings provided by members (DNice).
Is anyone using a Denon DVD-2910 with their 1130 that would have some baseline settings they could provide? I had the Denon previously with a Sony CRT, but never realized how 'bad' the colors/picture looks now compared to regular HDTV using the settings provided on this thread. The picture looks washed out & has a greenish cast. I'm playing around with a DVE calibration DVD but was hoping someone may have already dealt with this player's setup.

Proceed with great caution. The panel has an antireflective coating that is easily scratched or damaged with normal household cleaning cloths and solutions. Camera lens cleaning solution or any of the special solutions sold by plasma dealers along with a microfiber cloth is your best bet, but even this can do damage. You'll find a lot of discussion about plasmas and children by searching this forum. I believe that you will also find some guidance in your 4360 users manual.
augmental 09-27-06, 06:36 PM Can you guys tell me the location of the "white wash" test pattern? Pioneer has confirmed over the phone that there is a test pattern to alleviate IR.
I have some IR that is annoying and I have tried several days of constant DVD watching with no avail. I know how to access the SM and I see a function SG Pattern but I am not sure which one it is or if this is what I want. I want a test pattern or cycle that will get rid of the IR. I know that I shouldn't mess with the SM if I do not know all of the functions but a service tech is going to be next to impossible around here and expensive.
Oh and my panel is at 525 hours so I thought that I would be ok to play a game in HD with some static images but the IR has come from a static "EA" logo from a game I played for 2 hours.
Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Chriscart1 09-29-06, 07:39 PM I know for certain that the 4360 has no "white wash" option in any of the basic menus but it might be available in one of the service menus

a_ok2me 09-29-06, 09:01 PM I have an 1130 and a computer connected to it via VGA. I have it on energy save 2 and power management 1. Once during the 300 hours I've used it, the tv turned off as I was watching a show. I had to turn it on and off twice to get the picture and audio back. Maybe the computer went into stand-by mode and it triggered the "no-signal" warning to the tv. However, I was watching a broadcast, so it should not have done this. Once I turned off my computer and the tv turned off a minute later or so. Again, I had to turn it on and off twice to get the picture and audio. I'm guessing it has something to do with the power management. I turned it off for now.
Anyone with similar experiences? My display turned itself off again last night. The computer wasn't on and I'm not using power save anymore. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the TV Guide sending some kind of reset signal to my display. Did this happen to anyone yesterday?
I've tried searching for the answer to this, but no luck.
I have a Pio 5060 never set up the TV Guide feature. Is this something that would be useful for scheduling program recording on a DVR or ?????? Thanks

I will stay like that for a while till I unplug the power cord from back of the MR.
Now when I turn on the TV, same display comes out but the TV turns off after 30 sec or more. I unplug the power from the back and still get the same display.
How can I reset the MR to factory setting/defaults?
I think this is happening because I had a CableCard, then I took it out. Some how Ant/Cable A is till trying to read the card.

Ange Rizzo 10-04-06, 09:21 AM Those of you with an HTPC, could you please tell me what resolution you are sending to your 1130. I set mine to 1280 X 768 but that seems to be too big for the 1130.
Thanks
mine is at 1280x720, but it is slightly too large for the screen so i found a setting that lets me scroll around. if i move my mouse to the border of the display and keep going, it scrolls over to show the rest of the desktop.
it is very little of the desktop that doesn't fit so i have just lived with this. the only thing thats weird is that on occasion, when i "scroll" over to the right, i get vertical bands on the screen, maybe 40 pixels wide that don't scroll. really weird. when that happens i just reboot and its fine.
if anyone else has a better suggestion for display settings please post.
Angel L. 10-04-06, 10:23 AM 6070,
Does any one know if there is a way to use dual screen pip and use the full 1/2 screen?
Also if not, is there any way to remove the gray background on pip?

Sounds like a similar problem to what I had a few weeks ago. I had to have a service tech come out and run a master reset on both the MR and the display to get me back up and running (in addition to replacing a faulty digital tuner board in my MR). The reset was done through accessing the service menu.
mrich30000 10-05-06, 01:52 PM hi this is my first post but i've been browsing this forum for months now for info regarding my set......
back in march i bought the 930hd on the reccomendation of the sales rep at 6ave telling him that i was mainly buying it to play games.......so i bought it......about 3 days later i was hospitalized for 3 months and was mostly blind from a ailment.....so i didn't even use the set for like 3 months.....
now i've broken the set in .....and i've been notice alot of image retention after only a short period of time!!! 40 minutes you start to see it......by a hour and a half its so bad that you actually see color in the image retention!!!!!
this happens when playing any games......i have my 360 hooked up through component.....i've played regular xbox through s-video......and i've played ps2 through regular a/v......same result........i've also tried every mode setting on the tv.......and even lowered the contrast and brightness down to -20 and played for a hour just to see if it still happens and it does!!!
this happens on regular tv also mind you......while watching world series poker the other night for only 40 minutes i changed the channel to see the espn logo in the corner of the screen...........
this image retention mind you doesn't go right away either......it takes like 4 hours view another source to erase it...............
so anyway.........6ave of course wont take it back.....even though i bought the 5 year warrantee.........and even pioneer wont do anything.....telling me its just the nature of the beast..........
so i am just wondering if anyone else has had these same experiences........
because im convinced that this is not typical running problems........
i have the 1130hd and although i have seen some image retention before it is not common. i have my 360 hooked up to it and i have played for a couple hours at a time before and if there is any retention i really have to look for it.
there were only 2 times that it was ever very noticable:
1 was right after i got it and was still in the break in period and it was after watching espnHD for like 30 minutes or so. it was one of the shows that was 4:3 and espn put those weird bars on either side of the image. thos bars were visible for about 30 minutes or so after changing the channel.
the other was after break in my brother in law was over and was playing fifa soccer on 360 - i'm not sure how long but i think it was over 2 hours, and after he was done, the spot where the score displays at the bottom was visible, but that went away after abotu 20 mins of viewing other content. aside from that it is really a rare occasion that i see any image retention.

did you break-in the plasma for 200 hours
(full screen images, low contrast/brightness, save2 mode)?
what are the total hours on it?
you need to give more info if you want help.
I have a 4360 and want to access the service menu to see how many total hours I've racked up. Can someone please relist how to do this? I tried following the AV Forun info I had and couldn't get it to come up. Thanks.................
Chriscart1 10-05-06, 07:57 PM I game on my 4360 about 5 days out of the week and whilst sometimes I get temporary image retention its never permanent and its never anything like burn-in.
maybe you've just got a bad set?
mrich30000 10-05-06, 08:54 PM actually i did break in the set using breakin settings from a early post....and i ran it the full 200 hours......the total time now is near 900 hours........so i believe i just got a bad set.....but neither 6ave or pioneer want anything to do with me...i did run just sd video practicly but always stretched out so it was full screen...

You mostly notice it when you switch modes, such as to/from game to TV. I don't game, but I get IR when I used the TV Guide. After exiting the guide, it's easily noticeable when I watch black and white shows. I can't notice it under shows in color.

I have the 1130. Probably has 200+ hrs. (too chicken to play with the service menu). I always use the break-in settings and I even reduce the contrast/brightness/color a little more just to be safe. I ALWAYS get image retention on static images and if you look careful enough it will be there for days. My wife left the INPUT 3 banner active in the top right for an hour and I could detect it for almost a week on a grey screen. It will look yellow-ish upon careful examination. It has just now disapeared. I would never use this display for games as I'm certain it would behave exactly as yours and probably stay burned. Since this is my first plasma, I've probably been too critical looking for IR or BI.
I checked the manufacturing date and it was August '06 so it is not the batch that is known to have IR/BI issues. Either we both have bad sets (not likely) or it's just the nature of the beast.
Just try to view different material using the break-in settings and I think you'll be OK. Don't sweat it - there are bigger issues in life. :)
Good luck.
cathealer 10-08-06, 11:34 PM Recently, I have returned to my 1130 to turn on the system and have noticed that the power on light (the blue one) is blinking on the media box. Once I press the power on button (either on the media box or with the remote) the panel turns on normally. Powering off results in the proper light illuminating on the media receiver and panel (red light on). Then, occassionally, when returning, usually the next day, I find the blue light blinking on the media box. Any ideas regarding this issue would be appreciated.

You need to contiune running the break-in settings and also make sure that the panel hours you are quoting are the actual hours and not the total amount of time the TV has been plugged in. If you plan on doing a lot of gaming, then you need to keep your contrast low and make sure that you vary your viewing habits. Even from day one with this panel, I never had the kind of IR you are describing. It sounds to me like you don't have all of your inputs properly setup for appropriate contrast and break-in levels.
Mightyburner 10-14-06, 01:59 PM For the past several weeks I have not played DVD's via my HT processor but rather directly to my Pio 930HD. Today I reconnected all of my audio connections via the processor (Anthem AVM 30) and it works fine. However, the DVD picture only comes on briefly and then it flickers between a static and blank screen. I've tried reconnecting the HDMI but the same thing happens. The same thing happens with Input 1 (which I use with no problem with my SA 8300 cable box).
Suggestions? Please!
Karl_in_Chicago 10-16-06, 02:34 PM It's doing it again! Does anyone know how to completly reset the MR?
Just FYI I'm having a similar problem. No cable card here - not even a cable or sat box, just a Ratshack antenna. In almost all respects the TV performs perfectly but if I haven't used it in a day or so sometimes the power light on the MR is flashing and when I turn on the unit I get the "Please wait, powering up" display. It used to then proceed to power up after 10-30 seconds but now it just stays that way. Like you, pulling the plug from the back of the MR seems to be the only way to reset it. After doing that I'll get the same "please wait" display but it then quickly switches into normal picture display. I've never had it turn itself off while watching though.
It's getting pretty annoying.
Chriscart1 10-16-06, 05:03 PM I was watching a little HDTV programming on my radioshack antenna yesteryday and I briefly got a black screen then "waiting to power up" message too... kind of freaked me out. no problems so far tho and thats the only time its happened.
QUICK QUESTION- whats something cool I can use the FireWire/i.link input on the back of the media receiver for? in fact, whats it even for? maybe plugging a camcorder or digital camera in and looking at vids and pics or what? I know on the 4270's they went with USB this year but still its not like the TV has a hardrive or anything so you won't be saving videos or images to it so what the FireWire port for anyways? thanks
elvisahmed 10-20-06, 12:39 PM Firewire on the MR can be used for DVR as far as I know.

Ferd Berfel 10-22-06, 08:32 AM I've been following this thread for several months and am on the verge of buying a TV. I want a 50" plasma and have done a fair amount of research. I have a few general questions:
1. If money is no object, what is the consensus choice for best 50" plasma?
2. If saving money isn't important, but I'm not looking to overpay for bells and whistles, what is the best choice out there?
3. Is 1080p of any practical use yet? If not, will it be in the forseeable future?
4. Someone I spoke to at a private B&M store near me said he thinks prices for 1080p will come down in the spring as more manufacturers roll out their own models. Any truth to that?
Love this thread, and thanks in advance for your help!

The other questions are addressed in many of the other threads on this forum, but I'll address your first question. Be very careful about asking other people what is the best. I have spent the last 3 months doing just that and have upgraded through a number of sets. This has been a costly and time consuming experiment. The issue with asking others or reading reviews is that each plasma manufacturer builds to a different standard which may suit others but not you. A Pioneer picture looks different than a Panasonic or Samsung and you have to decide which looks better to you. In my case, I tried to force myself to like the look of one particular manufacturer and ended up with their plasma. In the end it just wasn't for me. Go to the store and spend a lot of time viewing, then go to 4 other stores. Pick what looks best to you
gbless77 10-23-06, 08:40 AM Ferd-
it came down to the panny and pio(5060) for me when I did my purchase. I could afford either, but convinced myself to buy the Panny because the picture was good and I could live without the bells and whistles. BUT, in the end I actually bought the pio. I feel if you are going to spend that much on a TV get the one you love. The style and ease of use are very important when you consider that you will look at it for 5-8 years.
BTW prices go down every year as the new models come out.
I had an excellent experience with an auth. online Pio dealer. Real good price and service.
BS.. I called it.

scanido 10-27-06, 07:19 PM Hi There,
I was hoping someone that has the older PIO-5060 plasma and an SA8300HD PVR would comment.
When i go and setup the SA8300 i selected these resolutions, 1080i and 720P, and in the plasma i setup AUTO resolution. Is this how this setup should be for the best picture? Should i just keep it on 720P?
I also notice that when going from 1080i to 720P programming or vice versa there is flicker and lag on the plasma. Will this wear down the plasma prematurely?
How is everyone seting up their SA8300HD to either their 5060/5070, resolution wise?
THanks for your advice,
Steve

You should select 480i, 720p, and 1080i. That will make the SA 8300 passthrough all broadcast signals and the Pioneer will do the scaling and deinterlacing.

Ferd Berfel 11-01-06, 12:25 PM How does anyone comparison shop for TV's? The Magnolias in my area have the Pio 1140 on display, but with crappy feeds. Harvey has good feeds but only has the new Pio 1080p monitor hooked up. It feels like the old days of trying to shop for stereo equipment, only more expensive.
Jediphish 11-01-06, 06:06 PM Does the ADV setting under Pure Cinema switch the panel into 72hz mode full time, or just when the processor detects a 24 frame per second film based sequence?
It would seem that the processing would only occur when the processor detects film-based matieral, but the fact that ADV is an option for 720p signals (which should have have 2:3 pulldown performed already), makes me wonder.
For interlaced matieral, whether 480i or 1080i, all three settings are available (off, standard, and ADV).
Since everything is going to get displayed progressively on the panel, with the differences being whether 24p material get's recognized, and then de-interlaced properly, I'm wondering what effect ADV has on 720p material. Does the processor detect that there's a 2:3 sequence in play, figure out which frame is only getting displayed 2 times, add one frame, and then display the next frame 3 times without adding 1 (since it was already in the broadcast stream)?
Also, recognizing that Std is not an option for 720p, what actually happens when that's the setting you've selected and you view a 720p programm? Does it revert to OFF as the default or to ADV as the default?
Hopefully, I'm making sense. Thanks in advance for any thoughful responses.

Ferd,
Just a suggestion, but you could bring a DVD into the store and have them play it direct through a couple diff. panels. If they are going to get 3-4 grand out of you I'm sure they would be willing to help.
When I bought my 5060 I was so scared that regular TV was going to look like crap because of what I saw in the stores. 6 months later I can say that all programing looks great. Ciao.
plasmablondie 11-02-06, 05:24 PM Did you try your local Best Buy, they seem to have the most Pioneer's on displays. Also if you are in the Washington State area we offer a custom home theater showroom that shows the 5070 with a great feed.
